- 0:02Happy Halloween everybody. How come the witch could not get
- 0:11pregnant because her husband had a Halloweenie?
- 0:21It's Halloween everybody. Today's subject is winning.
- 0:30It struck me odd that Tom Brady, one of the greatest football
- 0:37players of all time, was doing TV.
- 0:42It it it's strict. It It strikes me odd that Kevin
- 0:46Harvick is is doing TV. It it strikes me odd that the
- 0:55greatest athletes of all time, they win everything and they go
- 1:00on to do TV or they go on to do do something own, own car
- 1:06dealerships. John John Elway out there in
- 1:10Denver, you know, owns a lot of car dealerships.
- 1:13My brother Rusty, one of the greats of all time, Rusty
- 1:17Wallace, you know, 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup champion, 55 wins.
- 1:27He's got 9 car dealerships, he's building motorcycles.
- 1:31He's, you know, doing good things.
- 1:35So the subject is this there. There was a saying years ago,
- 1:41winning isn't everything. It's the only thing.
- 1:48As the years go by, I realize that's not true.
- 1:53It sounds good when you're young.
- 1:56When you're young, you're like, oh, I gotta win.
- 1:58I'll do anything to win. Winning.
- 2:03It's not everything. It's the only thing as you grow
- 2:09older like me, I'll, I'll never forget.
- 2:13I've sit, I've sit here in Saint Louis and I've gone down the
- 2:16Bush Stadium and I've witnessed the Saint Louis Cardinals win 2
- 2:21World Series championships, 2006, 2011.
- 2:27And you spend all year long fighting the good fight.
- 2:31And then when you win it all, you realize, oh, I still got to
- 2:36go to work. There's no grand explosion.
- 2:42And it, it strikes me odd, that's the, that's the phrase
- 2:46here, that all these great athletes, they do it all.
- 2:49They do it all. And in the end, they just still
- 2:54go find another job and do something.
- 2:57They've got plenty money, but now they're just looking for
- 2:59something to do the the Chicago Cubs, their fans, you know, I
- 3:07got a lot of friends up in Chicago and, and, you know,
- 3:10they're, they are our friendly rivalry.
- 3:14And I sit there and I watch the Yankees have a lot of errors
- 3:20last night. And they they lost the World
- 3:22Series because they weren't good enough.
- 3:26They're a great team. But but they lost and they did
- 3:30not deserve to win because they created too many errors.
- 3:34I'm a baseball guy. I know all about baseball.
- 3:40So I told my friends in Chicago, you know, when they finally won
- 3:44the World Series after 100 years, I think it was 103 years.
- 3:49Respond right here. I think the Cubs, you know, God
- 3:54roughed them up, made them make, made them wait 103 years.
- 3:59So I told some of my friends up there, I said, be careful now.
- 4:04And I, and I'm serious, I said this.
- 4:06If my buddy John said Tony's listening right now, I probably
- 4:10didn't tell John, but but I told some of my friends, I said when
- 4:15the Cubs win the World Series, you're going to realize a day or
- 4:21two later that's all there is to it.
- 4:25You're still going to go to work.
- 4:27They still going to send your bills and it's just something
- 4:30that happens. But there's no grand explosion.
- 4:33There's there's no euphoric situations.
- 4:36It's kind of that it's kind of like 4th of July.
- 4:39You light a bottle rocket up and it goes, fizzles out.
- 4:44So here's the point. The point is this phrase that I
- 4:49learned, be careful, competition will kill you.
- 4:58Be careful, competition will kill you.
- 5:02So the whole time you're competing, you're like, you
- 5:05know, you feel like if if you win that you will be able to
- 5:10solve World Peace. We have fun around town here.
- 5:16You know, us local dirt racers and that's all we are now.
- 5:20We try to make, you know, a mountain out of a molehill.
- 5:25We, we try to think if we win the feature on Saturday night at
- 5:28Pevely that Oh my God, we're millionaires.
- 5:31You know, we go down or we get our $700, get our trophy.
- 5:38And I put those some bitches all around the shop.
- 5:41And the reason I put those trophies are all around the shop
- 5:44is because my, I like a good backdrop for my sponsors.
- 5:50And plus I'm a little bit of a smart ass.
- 5:52You know, people have roughed me up.
- 5:55You know, I, I got, I got some issues I'm working through
- 6:01specifically, I never won a Cup race.
- 6:03Now, I won nine Xfinity races and got some good stats, but I
- 6:08never won a Cup race. And that bothers me.
- 6:10That pisses me off. It's kind of like Mark Martin,
- 6:17never win in a championship. We will get over it.
- 6:20We're fine. We're fine.
- 6:22OK. The reason I got all those
- 6:25trophies on display up there is is so when people go, hey,
- 6:28Wallace, how many dirt races have you won?
- 6:32It's like, I don't know, count all the trophies.
- 6:36The bottom line is competition will kill you.
- 6:38Be careful with competition thinking that it's going to
- 6:41solve your life problems. I've learned that competition is
- 6:46something to do. If you can do it and make a
- 6:50living at it, that's that's awesome.
- 6:53But every one of my friends that have won everything and they've
- 6:58won championships, I've learned so much towards the end of my
- 7:03life here. I have the greatest of all time.
- 7:07Here's key. I have the greatest of all time.
- 7:10They come up to me and they've won championships.
- 7:12They've won multiple championships, 3040 races, but
- 7:18it comes so easy to them. You know what they asked me,
- 7:21Herman, how are you so happy? Why are you so happy?
- 7:27I look at them and I say, you know what?
- 7:30I tell them this. I say I will.
- 7:35I would cut off that bad pinky. They got smashed in a door in
- 7:39Rolla, MO. My brother Rusty and Mike were
- 7:42fighting and one of the doors opened up and I went to go in
- 7:46the house and one of them slammed the other door and it
- 7:49destroyed that pinky. I would cut that mother pinky
- 7:53off if I could have won One Cup race.
- 8:02About 10 years ago, my mom said something to me.
- 8:04She goes Ken Hun, I know it bothers you that you never want
- 8:08a Cup race, but God gave you your due later in life and it is
- 8:13true now I'm OK with it. I truly am.
- 8:16I was kind of acting now what I'd like to won a cup race yes,
- 8:21but I'm using myself in his example.
- 8:26Here's the bottom line, be careful everybody competition
- 8:31will kill you because the best Tom Brady 7 times.
- 8:37Oh, it's great you went on the Super Bowls, but he got a
- 8:40divorce and he's on TV and the beat goes on.
- 8:46So competition will not solve all your problems.
- 8:51It just because you win an old dirt race, pays 50 grand to win
- 8:54while that money's gone, that's gone.
- 8:59I sure like winning. I do win a lot, but later that
- 9:03night it's just over. Do not judge yourself worth
- 9:08through the way that race car runs or your competitors.
- 9:14It's a tough lesson to learn. Respond right here.
