- 0:05Hi. I'm Jay felon, and thank you for
- 0:07listening to the slippery, slope it before I get started.
- 0:10Please like, and share this podcast if you enjoyed, if you
- 0:14listen to it, the really do appreciate it.
- 0:17Now, this next article that I'm going to read to you,
- 0:20unfortunately, we see this type of headline in Australia
- 0:24repeated way too much. And it seems to be just a
- 0:27constant head line coming through.
- 0:30And it's disgusting yet another collapse of a building company
- 0:36here in Australia, this headline here, says that Oracle homes
- 0:39collapse leaves, family homeless, but Master, Builders
- 0:44hopeful Insurance scheme will help hundreds.
- 0:47So this is talking about it or a specific family.
- 0:49But look, I only heard about this company going under, just
- 0:53this morning. This article goes on to say
- 0:56that. A grandmother says her family
- 0:58will be homeless by End of the week because of the collapse of
- 1:02Queensland building company, Oracle homes, liquid itís,
- 1:06estimated 300 homeowners in Queensland and New South Wales
- 1:11have unfurnished poems, but Industry Group Master, Builders
- 1:16say those affected should be covered for up to two hundred
- 1:21thousand dollars from the statutory home warranty
- 1:25Insurance scheme. So Carrie Matthews said her
- 1:29house In the hunter, Valley in New South, Wales was supposed to
- 1:32be finished in July, but it is only half completed despite the
- 1:36family already paying Oracle homes.
- 1:39For 85% of the build. She said she had sold her
- 1:42current home. And we're handing over the keys
- 1:45to the new owner on Monday. My husband myself, and my
- 1:49daughter and my three grandchildren will be homeless
- 1:52on Sunday. Ms Matthews said, listen isn't
- 1:56this, isn't this way more typical of these Darling family
- 2:00than it used to be how it's you know, the grandparents that the
- 2:06the children and the grandchildren all living under
- 2:09the one roof. This story seems to be repeated
- 2:13again and again across Australia families living together, which
- 2:16isn't usually or never used to be the custom in Australia.
- 2:20Anyway, so it goes on to say that I've cried a River of
- 2:23Tears. I'm angry.
- 2:25I can't believe that people can do this to people and get away
- 2:28with it in his mouth. Matthews and her husband, Paul
- 2:31signed a contract with the completion date of July 26.
- 2:35She said the company never gave them a complain.
- 2:37You completion date. Despite the contract, requiring
- 2:41them to provide one within 10 days in the weeks before.
- 2:44It went into liquidation, Oracle homes, would not return the
- 2:48family's calls. According to mrs.
- 2:50Matthews. I thought you mongrels you've
- 2:53known this. She said we've sold a house
- 2:56because Oracle didn't change our date.
- 3:00Couple lived with the adult daughter, Melissa who was a
- 3:02heart condition as well as three grandchildren and we'll need to
- 3:05move in with relatives while they search for a new Builder.
- 3:09My husband can't retire. We thought we were going to own
- 3:13it, we're not going to, it's just wrong.
- 3:16So Oracle building corporation, which trains as Oracle Platinum
- 3:21homes and Oracle Hunter homes went into Liquidation on
- 3:24Wednesday, with 70 staff terminated immediately and no
- 3:28further building works. To be undertaken by the company.
- 3:32So, in a statement, the Liquidator said they understood
- 3:35the total creditor claims may be in the vicinity of 14 million
- 3:39dollars. And about 300, homeowners
- 3:42potentially affected some Master Builders Queensland, chief
- 3:46executive. Paul did well said, homeowners
- 3:49should be covered for up to two hundred thousand dollars by the
- 3:52safety. Net of the statutory home
- 3:54warranty Insurance scheme, mr. Bidwell said it would take
- 3:58longer for house, has to be completely.
- 4:00But this should be should not be any Financial strain.
- 4:04When the contract Parker, I'll just stop there.
- 4:07When he says there should not be any Financial strain.
- 4:10We all know that is not the way this is going to play out for
- 4:13every individual in. There will be Financial strain
- 4:16because they will be other bills coming in and you already down
- 4:20the money and like this family here, you need to find somewhere
- 4:22else to live, you know, if that's not Financial strain.
- 4:26What the heck is anyway, goes on to say, Say when the contract is
- 4:31signed, the insurance premium is paid by the Builder and
- 4:34ultimately by the homeowner. He told ABC radio Brisbane, but
- 4:39that doesn't mean there's going to be any fun for those
- 4:41homeowners during that process in Queensland.
- 4:44I'd say that I'm quite confident that there will be some pain,
- 4:48but ultimately, their houses will be built.
- 4:50I think that's a, that's an understatement of stupid.
- 4:52Well, so he also claims, he says that claims could be made
- 4:58through Queensland building and She commissioned a new Builders
- 5:02would be organized. So further on in the in the
- 5:05article almost two years on from signing a contract with Oracle
- 5:09homes, Grant Beck said construction had barely begun on
- 5:13his and his wife's home in the singing Rim south of Brisbane
- 5:17mr. Beck that said they had received
- 5:19two price variation request to complete their home totaling
- 5:22more than one hundred thousand dollars in additional payments
- 5:26to cover issues including price Rises.
- 5:29And supply chain disruptions. So this is, this is the bigger
- 5:35picture problem. Like I said, we've seen these
- 5:38kinds of headlines again, and again here in Australia and
- 5:40obviously overseas, you know, countries like China.
- 5:43We've seen these major building corporations collapsing, and
- 5:47it's constantly this this claim, it's, it's the supply chain
- 5:51issues. It's, you know, price Rises that
- 5:54are that are way out of these building companies hands.
- 5:56And I do believe that that is the problem.
- 5:59Don't like it when everyone starts blaming like on the news
- 6:02this morning. They start talking about the
- 6:04Ukraine war and how you know what's happening with Russia and
- 6:07Ukraine. Well, this is part of the
- 6:09problem is that the think? Well, this has been going on for
- 6:12a while and also, you know, we can't always just blame Russia
- 6:17our leadership. And I know we've had a change of
- 6:20government, you know, since the Ukraine war has started, but the
- 6:25leadership globally could see these things coming down.
- 6:29Down coming down the line, we've seen for months and months.
- 6:33Actually, I think it's been over a year.
- 6:35Now, we could see supplying Che supply chain disruptions would
- 6:41be affecting the glow and yet. No one has taken any action to
- 6:47try and stifle this problem to try and fix the problem.
- 6:52There's not been one leader stand up and fix the problem.
- 6:55It seems like it almost seems like China is, is The problem
- 7:00was with the supply chain and not allowing ships, not allowing
- 7:07ships to move freely. You know, and things like
- 7:10they're silly. This Italy covid policy where
- 7:14they want some zero infections and they don't allow movement
- 7:17throughout their country in Australia.
- 7:20We've seen these things coming down the line like I said, and
- 7:24yet again we've got another government.
- 7:27That doesn't seem to want to take decisive.
- 7:29Action. This is what happens when you
- 7:33have this Reliance on other countries.
- 7:36And yet, we ourselves could Supply.
- 7:39We could get most things, we could make most things in our
- 7:43country. But no, we decided we wanted to
- 7:45go the cheap route and get products from China and other
- 7:49countries where they make it. You know, with basically slave
- 7:52labor and this is the consequence of those actions.
- 7:57I feel very, very sorry for the for the Murs that are feeling
- 8:02this pain. I actually feel sorry for the
- 8:04building companies as well that are going under because all the
- 8:07families, you know, the people that they support, they employ
- 8:12who get thrown under the bus, however, we could see this
- 8:17coming. When all you want to do is try
- 8:20and save money, could are cheap products, instead of thinking,
- 8:24long-term and making products in Australia in our own nation.
- 8:29And this isn't just the problem of Current governments and
- 8:33governments just one or two, you know, one or two generations
- 8:36ago. This is been a long-term problem
- 8:40brought about by governments decades ago.
- 8:43This is a bit. This has been a problem of our
- 8:45own doing and now people like Carrie Matthews or Grant Beck
- 8:50unfortunately a paying the price.
- 8:53Because we want to send our their work overseas.
- 8:57Basically, for the cheap, we're paying the price of our past
- 9:01sins. Basically, unfortunately, that's
- 9:04my opinion. Please let me know what you
- 9:06think, but that's my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 9:11slippery slope.
