- 0:12What's up everybody? It's your lovely host Simone
- 0:16again. And this was or this is Jesus,
- 0:20this is, I was thinking, yay, I'm breaking the wall again.
- 0:25This is back-to-back recording. Yay, we're going to push
- 0:30through. We're going to get through it.
- 0:32And here with me is still the lovely Shay.
- 0:35I'm back, yes, and get rid of me actually never left, right?
- 0:38Never left. But yes, we're actually bringing
- 0:41the album review to the BTS I Dong extravaganza.
- 0:48So let's actually go ahead and deep dive into this album.
- 0:52We'll highlight all the producers and writers credited
- 0:56on it. Talk about, you know, if we had
- 0:59any problems with any of the songs lyrics that we liked.
- 1:02Again, I have Shay here because she's familiar with some names
- 1:06that I might not be familiar with.
- 1:08So like, talk about them and maybe their music journey and
- 1:10how they tie in to working with BTS and yeah, what works for us,
- 1:15what doesn't work for us. Are you excited, Shay?
- 1:18I'm so excited, but more excited to get this over with like that.
- 1:22I'm excited. This is one of my favorite
- 1:24things. Obviously when it comes to any
- 1:26album, it's just deep diving. The first thing, you know, when
- 1:28we, when we got the credit, the song credit, first thing we did,
- 1:32I think in the server Discord server for the but you didn't
- 1:35listen to Part 1. Go back and listen to that.
- 1:38We kind of did a little bit of deep dive on, you know, what
- 1:41these artists are these, you know, writers and producers are
- 1:44and what I and what many of us thought were going to bring to
- 1:47the table based on their, their, you know, their, their
- 1:51trajectory in music. So it's one of my favorite
- 1:54parts. I always check the credits
- 1:55because, you know, songwriters are important.
- 1:57They're very much a necessity and part of the lifeblood of
- 2:00what makes music music. And same with producers.
- 2:03And you know, not to yap too long, but I mean this, this
- 2:06album has been I think one of them.
- 2:08I won't say it's the most controversial, but at least in
- 2:10my Army lifetime, it has been one of the most polarizing
- 2:16albums or projects that they put out probably outside of JK Solo
- 2:20Project, because JK Solo Project was also fully English and very
- 2:24heavily influenced by Western producers and Western writers.
- 2:28And it's just, it's funny the similarities I think that we're
- 2:32seeing with that conversation. But we'll get into that.
- 2:36Not going to jump ahead so. Yeah, so before we talk about
- 2:40each song, I do want to highlight the achievements that
- 2:43this album has made because, you know, we still have to bring
- 2:46light to that. So the lead single that they
- 2:49went with Swim on the 1st week of charting actually went #1 on
- 2:54the Billboard Hot 1 Hundreds in the US.
- 2:56So Congrats to BTS. It's been some time since that.
- 3:01So I think the last time as we're recording this that I saw,
- 3:04it did get bumped down, but to number 2.
- 3:07So it's actually still in the top 10 for the Hot one hundreds.
- 3:11So that's great. This album also made BTS the
- 3:14first group in history to debut a song and album at #1 on the
- 3:19Hot One Hundreds and Billboard 200.
- 3:21And the first time that they achieved that was with the album
- 3:24B that we got during the pandemic and the title track
- 3:28with That Life Goes On. So the whole album itself
- 3:32actually debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.
- 3:35I have the songs and where they placed on the whole Hot 100
- 3:39chart. So of course, like I stated,
- 3:41Swim was #1 #25 was body to body, 35 was hooligan, 36 was
- 3:48fire, 41 was normal, 47 alien, 52 point zero, 52 merry go round
- 3:5653 like animals, 56 they don't know about US. 61 one more
- 4:02night, 63 please, and 68 into the sun apparently #29 was not
- 4:09eligible for the hot one hundreds.
- 4:11We know a place. It should have, but I guess they
- 4:14didn't count it for some odd reason.
- 4:16I don't remember what the reasoning was.
- 4:18And again, since it's been some time I don't know if any of
- 4:21these have gone up down or knocked off the chart
- 4:24completely. But BTS has also become the
- 4:26first artist and history. Not just K pop group, not Asian
- 4:31group or like Asian act, but first artist in history to
- 4:35hockey occupy the entire 10 top 10 on the Billboard global
- 4:40excluding US charts. So in order it was swim body to
- 4:46body hooligan fire, normal aliens like animals, 2 point O
- 4:52merry go round and they don't know about us.
- 4:54So Congrats to them. And also when I first we first
- 5:00tried to record this on April 5th, Adirong by BTS had actually
- 5:04surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
- 5:07So it became the fastest album by any group or Asian act in
- 5:10history to achieve this milestone.
- 5:12I also believe that Adirong date at #1 on the Billboard 200 for
- 5:18two weeks. So it's been #1 two weeks in a
- 5:20row because I do know they blocked Kanye and I think I
- 5:24heard they may be going for a third week.
- 5:27So they may actually, we'll know by the time this recording comes
- 5:30out, but they may actually be in the Billboard 200 for at least
- 5:34three consecutive weeks, which would be the longest in their
- 5:37history as well. Yes, it is.
- 5:40So to talk about the album itself, I'm also going to add in
- 5:43like notes that I took from the studio notes live that they did,
- 5:48just to let you know. I'll be referencing that a lot
- 5:50and like to begin with, I also want to point out it's very
- 5:54interesting. We're like Yungi, I guess,
- 5:56really emphasize how even though you see many names in the
- 5:59production, BTS themselves and all seven members were really
- 6:02the ones that like took lead and part in the process and some
- 6:06way. So just to keep that in mind.
- 6:10But we're going to go ahead and start with the very first song
- 6:13that is on the album titled Body to Body.
- 6:16If you also watch the documentary, this song was
- 6:19talked about a lot because it's the one where they use the
- 6:21actual Adiram sample. So the producers on this track
- 6:27are credited. Oh, I should also do my
- 6:31disclaimer real quick. I am so sorry if I mispronounce
- 6:33any of these names. I'm trying my best.
- 6:36I usually need to hear them phonetically to make sure I'm
- 6:38pronouncing them right. So yeah, I just wanted to just
- 6:41put that out there. If I mispronounce, if any of
- 6:43them for some odd reason decide to listen to this podcast, I am
- 6:47so sorry for mispronouncing your name.
- 6:49If I did Prince, pronounce your name.
- 6:51Well, let's start with the producer credits.
- 6:53So we have the pick card brothers Diplo, Ryan Tedder and
- 6:58P Dog, with the lyrics credited by Ryan Tedder, Maximum pick
- 7:04Card, Thomas Wesley Pence, Akira Evans, Tezo Touchdown, P Dog, RM
- 7:13Sugar, J Hope and Kirsten Alyssa Spencer.
- 7:17Now, I did want to point out real quick that it was
- 7:21interesting as well because if you watch the documentary,
- 7:24Namjoon and Yugi throughout the samples they were using wasn't
- 7:28really feeling it. In this song, they had a lot to
- 7:31say about it. And in the studio notes, Yugi
- 7:33actually says something along the lines of like kind of being
- 7:37against using the sample at first because he's already used
- 7:41so many Korean traditional music and his own solo work before.
- 7:45And then he brought up Hey Gum and Dechi Schwa, just to name
- 7:49the 2. So I do think like, the decision
- 7:52to use the sample was more in the perspective of like, the
- 7:57enjoyment from international fans than their Korean fans
- 8:00because they also talked about the concerns on that.
- 8:02And like, if Koreans maybe thought they turned like, too
- 8:04patriotic, especially after coming directly from the
- 8:07military and like, trying to placate other things like that.
- 8:12And with this song that was mentioned in the studio notes as
- 8:16well as I'm going to be referencing a army who's known
- 8:20on Twitter as Dole said they have their own website who I do
- 8:25have the, you know, link to their blog.
- 8:27Please check it out where they work tirelessly to translate BT
- 8:32s s albums and not only translate the lyrics, but give
- 8:35like a more in depth description of like certain Korean contacts.
- 8:40But both of them, Mungi and this person talked about how they
- 8:44mentioned the song Hand in Hand, which was the official theme
- 8:47song of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
- 8:51And that was kind of like their inspiration for the song body to
- 8:54body. And then on Dole Sets blog on a
- 8:57breakdown, the lyrics they mentioned, the lyrics of Hand in
- 9:00Hand are built on the central themes of unity, harmony, hope,
- 9:04and then dismantling of barriers, which I feel like you
- 9:06can kind of get that hit when you look at the lyrics, when I
- 9:10know some people interpret it, some like, you know, different
- 9:13ways of like I want your body beside me and things like that.
- 9:17Or like one lyric I'm looking at, it's translated from Korean
- 9:21so we can reach the moon over there hand in hand, so.
- 9:25So names of familiar it's just a not to correct, but T's a
- 9:31touchdown is an artist slash songwriter, I'm assuming from
- 9:35what I saw on the further breakdown on Wikipedia, he added
- 9:40a vocals. So I'm sure he does.
- 9:43Yeah, on his own Wikipedia, which I don't knock Wikipedia.
- 9:46I just hate the Wikipedia warriors.
- 9:48It actually tells you all the things that they contribute
- 9:52these people contribute to. So one of the things that he
- 9:56did, from what I understand, from what it says, is that he
- 9:58attributes some of the vocals, which probably was like
- 10:02background vocals, ad libs, things like that.
- 10:04Maybe just some certain sounds. Yeah, not exactly on the
- 10:07opposite one in the studio, but he's an artist.
- 10:10He has put out, I want to say like 3 projects, 3 like studio
- 10:14projects. Very eclectic young man, very
- 10:18eccentric personality. Kind of have that Lil Uzi Vert,
- 10:23but I feel like that he kind of births some of that, you know,
- 10:27influence or whatever with just a very he's just he's he has a
- 10:31very unique style, unique sound. I don't necessarily hear him
- 10:35like in this just based on his music, but I can see why just
- 10:41based on his type of style, why they would have reached out to
- 10:45him for any input or whatever. And of course, you have like
- 10:49Diplo, very notable name. Wasn't too familiar with the
- 10:53Picard brothers when we first got to look them up.
- 10:56I think they are a French duo. I remember that correctly.
- 11:02Name like maximum? That would make sense, and I
- 11:05don't think I spell I'm saying that correctly.
- 11:07Yeah, I could be wrong on where they're from, but they're
- 11:09definitely a like a ADJ set, I believe focusing I think
- 11:15primarily on like EDM and stuff like that.
- 11:17So I think the and then Ryan Tedder, of course, Ryan Tedder,
- 11:20I think from one Republic and has worked side by side with
- 11:25like the likes of Timberland. So I found I found these things
- 11:28kind of interesting, just the the choices that were made and
- 11:31the people who were involved. I think the choice and again,
- 11:34tying it into the documentary and kind of the apprehension to
- 11:38utilize such like on the nose sampling.
- 11:44Like I think there's also a little maybe a little bit of
- 11:46trauma with uni and sampling with, you know, certain things
- 11:49that happened with certain songs and certain samples.
- 11:53You know, I didn't even think about that until you mentioned
- 11:55it. Yeah.
- 11:56But again, I think there's again, going into the
- 11:59conversation of like there's valid criticism, valid, you
- 12:02know, and even from themselves, like these concerns they had
- 12:05were valid to them. Maybe a few.
- 12:09I mean, because I was much like J Hope in the dark.
- 12:12I was feeling it as soon as like, that's my favorite.
- 12:14Part I said that. Too, like the song is good, but
- 12:17my favorite part is when you start hearing the women in the
- 12:20background and they're just it's slowly building.
- 12:23And then you we're still, but it's combined with the vocal
- 12:27stylings of JK and Jimin and Jen and all them and and Tay and
- 12:33we're hearing them like blend it in the way of like again,
- 12:36bringing the old into the new, combining those things, which
- 12:40again, hand in hand, almost kind of like poetic in a way.
- 12:44And then to give them their own space to let that breathe.
- 12:48And including all of this just heavy hitting instrumentation.
- 12:51Again, if you haven't listened to this within in more than one
- 12:54way, if you haven't listened to this in the car, which by now
- 12:56I'm sure everybody has listened to this a myriad of ways.
- 12:58But if you have not done yourself the service to listen
- 13:01to this like on a proper system and find you like just find you
- 13:07the nearest a karaoke spot and just have them play it and, you
- 13:11know, rent it out for an hour and just go listen to this
- 13:13album. That's what I promise is what
- 13:15we're planning on doing. Mostly the reason part of it is
- 13:18just to hear this in a proper speaker system.
- 13:21And obviously, you know, I am under the assumption, even
- 13:25though I do not want spoilers for the other songs, I know that
- 13:28this album is going to be primarily part of the setlist.
- 13:30So it's not not it's not lost on me that this song will obviously
- 13:34be featured on the set list. It'll be very interesting to see
- 13:38us over here. And I'm sure it's been very like
- 13:41interesting to see the Korean concerts sing that part along.
- 13:47It probably feels like a very special moment.
- 13:50And I'm glad that, you know, with the with the documentary,
- 13:53there was a lot of backlash, obviously with, you know, them
- 13:57quote UN quote strongly suggesting to BTS that they use
- 14:03the longer sample. And I hate to be the person
- 14:06that'd be like, well, you know, they were right.
- 14:09Bong PD was correct. And I think the longer sample
- 14:12was the correct choice at when you listen to them side by side,
- 14:15because we were able to in the documentary, be able to listen
- 14:19to the shorter version. How it would have played out in
- 14:21versus I'm, I can't imagine not being able to feel the emotions
- 14:28I feel as a non Korean hearing audio on being sung in the
- 14:32background in this building, like in, in, in this, in this
- 14:36constant, like, like almost like it's almost kind of sounds like
- 14:40a victory lap in a way, which is very motivational and very
- 14:45inspiring and very creative as well.
- 14:47I mean, I think part of the whole reason why a lot of people
- 14:51not to be like negative, we're kind of like pushed behind or
- 14:54like pushed off by all this and we're craving more quote UN
- 14:59quote authentic sound and authentic references to
- 15:02something that's more Korean. Like, I do think that a lot of
- 15:06the fans and a lot of people who were anticipating this album to
- 15:10be quote UN quote more Korean, we're looking at wanting more of
- 15:13this, more of this blending of like the older sad, the older
- 15:18generation songs and instrumentation and references
- 15:23into this new era. But I mean, I be honest, I don't
- 15:27think that an album that is just that would probably get old fast
- 15:32to have a constant like every song has some kind of like
- 15:35reference to something, you know what I mean?
- 15:37Like it's it I think it it that's a strong opening.
- 15:41I I honest, I remember, if I remember this correctly, back
- 15:44when the album came out, it like body to body was in the lead.
- 15:47This this this swim be in the lead single, but body to body
- 15:51was a fan. Is is a fan favorite.
- 15:54I would argue that's probably one of the top three of like
- 15:57everybody's favorites. Just and I think it has a lot to
- 16:01do with the fact that that song swells in the end and feels very
- 16:06it feels very patriotic. I'm I'm sure I don't know that
- 16:09for a fact because I'm not Korean, but I do.
- 16:11It's kind of like similar to that.
- 16:13I don't know if you ever feel this as well when you see Samoan
- 16:18men do is haka hoka. I was going to bring that up
- 16:22because my first experience with the haka, I actually got a
- 16:25chance when I was younger to go to New Zealand.
- 16:28I actually knew nothing about New Zealand at that point, but
- 16:31it was part of a package like traveling thing that someone we
- 16:34knew at the time did. So I was fortunate enough to go
- 16:38there. And I just remember the feeling
- 16:39I had like watching them do that.
- 16:41I just feel like it was so powerful.
- 16:43And like you're saying like, even though I'm not like a part
- 16:45of that culture at all, Like you can just feel it.
- 16:47Like you can feel the ties of the ancestry, like the respect
- 16:51there, which you can feel as well.
- 16:53Like when you're listening to Body Body.
- 16:55I know too, like when we talked about in the other part of like
- 16:59the Korean diaspora, there's been so many when this album
- 17:02first came out and when they were listening to the song, like
- 17:04Koreans of the diaspora, whether they're the younger generation
- 17:08or like they were showing their parents or grandparents.
- 17:10And you would just see them cry because they just reminded them
- 17:14of Korea, like if they were their older ones who used to
- 17:18live there and like Mr. Homeland or like the ones that never got
- 17:22to really like grow up in Korea, like feel connected to the
- 17:25homeland with that. So I do feel like that was very
- 17:29needed despite like the worries of the criticism of Koreans and
- 17:35Korean themselves. But like, I see your point as
- 17:37well. And I feel that way too.
- 17:38Because it's like we get it, Like it comes to a point.
- 17:41It's like, OK, we understand, like you're Korean, this is your
- 17:44roots, this is your culture. But like, what else?
- 17:46I don't know if this is like a Western way of my thinking, but
- 17:50it's like, I want to also know you as an individual.
- 17:53Like I don't, I don't care that you're Korean.
- 17:56I'm happy you're proud of where you are and want to showcase
- 17:59that, but that's not who you are.
- 18:02Like, that's not all you are. And it's like, I feel like,
- 18:05yeah, there comes some points like, OK, like, we get it.
- 18:08But who else are you as a person?
- 18:11Like your whole identity doesn't revolve about around you being
- 18:14Korean, which I think was another reason I was so upset
- 18:17about the controversy of like, is this Korean enough?
- 18:19Because, you know, we're all individual people, so you have
- 18:23your own personality outside of your race and ethnicity.
- 18:26Yeah, Overall, I think when I was cycling through my way of
- 18:30listening to the album, I found myself like, you know, like
- 18:33doubling back. I would get half, I would get
- 18:35almost to the end and I have to come back and start all.
- 18:38Just something about the boards being used, the particular
- 18:42things that are like that stand out as far as again, the
- 18:47instrumentation, especially when it goes into that part where
- 18:50it's homage to like the traditional song.
- 18:54And I feel like it's, it's very relatable to a lot of if you
- 18:58like music, if you're somebody who like grew up with like just
- 19:00different music, but just like for just using black people, you
- 19:04know, And in this example, a lot of not all that's, but a lot of
- 19:07us were raised around kind of our our grandparents and our
- 19:10grandparents listen to a lot of like older, you know, music like
- 19:14Marvin Gaye, Al Green and you know, the list goes on.
- 19:16Lenny Williams just on and on. And then when you hear someone
- 19:19in the new generation make a sample, like I think of Coco
- 19:22Jones when she did what's that song called?
- 19:27Here we go. It's samples.
- 19:28Lenny Williams because I love you, which can be intimidating
- 19:33to it's like one of the quote UN quote greatest love songs of our
- 19:37of that generation. And it can be inseminating.
- 19:40And so I get the apprehension of like using something that's so
- 19:43sacred, I guess, to your culture and to your people.
- 19:48And again, feeling like you're using this to sell a product.
- 19:53I can see why there was apprehension there.
- 19:56But I was also very much in my Hobie bag and jam and I was not
- 20:00concerned about, you know, I was, I felt Hobie so much like
- 20:03when he was just like. I'm fucking with this.
- 20:06And they were looking at him like, we ain't fucking with
- 20:07this. And he's looking around like,
- 20:09yeah, I ain't fucking with this. Like no, we're not fucking with
- 20:10this. And it's it's, and I think
- 20:12that's also just to tie that in. That's such a real moment.
- 20:16Like it's such a like, it just goes to show that they don't
- 20:19agree on everything all the time.
- 20:20Like, I think people have this misconception of like they get
- 20:23in the studio and they and I, I don't think everybody feels this
- 20:27way, but I think there is a part of our fandom that believes that
- 20:29everything BTS puts out it just it's it's, it's a, it's an
- 20:33automatic yes. Like, and even the things that
- 20:36do get put out, there was a struggle there.
- 20:38There wasn't conflict there. I think art itself, whether it's
- 20:43music, the written word, you know, visual art, whatever,
- 20:47whatever is under the category of art, there has to be a little
- 20:50bit of struggle for an art to be good or considered good.
- 20:54You know, there has to be like a back story there.
- 20:56You mean like, I think of like noms and a lot when he goes and
- 20:59sits in a fucking museum every day, all day and just reading
- 21:03and learning and just hearing the stories of different, you
- 21:06know, artists and sculptors and painters and the things that
- 21:09they go through and why they were inspired.
- 21:11And all that is part of the is part of the artistic expression.
- 21:16So even if we're seeing like a bit of, you know, push and pull
- 21:20and, you know, they're obviously like having some differences of
- 21:23opinions. And again, these concerns which
- 21:25are valid are coming up. I think if they just went in
- 21:29with the with the with the mindset like we're just going to
- 21:32put out whatever. I mean, spoiler, I guess maybe
- 21:36I'm not really. I think it's been now said in
- 21:38many interviews, this album, the project had over like 100 songs,
- 21:44potential song, and they narrowed that down to 14.
- 21:48And of those 100 songs, I guarantee you that whole
- 21:52situation that we saw with Body to Body probably happened on
- 21:54every. I don't think there was a song
- 21:56that they all collectively agreed on without a little bit
- 22:00of pushback. No.
- 22:01And we'll, we'll talk about that too with this as well.
- 22:04Because even the songs they did pick, they were like, Nope, I
- 22:07don't want that. And they were very vocal about
- 22:09that, which I'm sure they were afraid to do because like you
- 22:12said, I'm sure there's some subgroup of armies out there.
- 22:15There was like they agree with everything.
- 22:18There is no conflict even among the members themselves of like
- 22:21any type of disagreements which is not.
- 22:23Because they also have different things that they enjoy listening
- 22:26to. We saw that through solo
- 22:28projects, just with their choices.
- 22:30And so part of it isn't just about what the group thinks
- 22:36about a song. It's more or less of what they
- 22:38individually think. And if they're like, Oh, that's
- 22:40like, I can see I'm we didn't see this, but I can envision
- 22:43like JK is very much a type of the type of personality that is
- 22:47kind of up to date with trends and well, it tries to be anyway.
- 22:51I know we just we just talked about how he's late to
- 22:53everything, but like he's also, I think one of the ones that's
- 22:56on between him and J Hope are very like social media aware.
- 23:00And so like, especially with like them both being on TikTok.
- 23:03And I know Tay is also on TikTok now, but Tay is Tay.
- 23:06So like he's kind of he does, he treats TikTok like he treats his
- 23:10lives. He's on there when he is and
- 23:11he's not when he's not. But I think both of them are
- 23:14very conscious about what's popular and in the day.
- 23:17You you want to have a balance between something that people
- 23:21enjoy, but also something that's authentic.
- 23:22And it's hard to find that balance because you know, one of
- 23:25my favorite artists, Black, which is spelled with a six for
- 23:29the B. He talks about this and one of
- 23:31his songs on his debut projects where essentially he's alluding
- 23:35to the fact that he was kind of suggested to go a direction, but
- 23:40he chose his authenticity because if he ended up going the
- 23:44direction that people want him to go, he would be pigeon holed
- 23:46in that and he would have to continue to chase that
- 23:49popularity, like I to stay relevant.
- 23:52And that's not how you build a solid fan base.
- 23:54And I would say that it's probably one of the best like
- 23:56not pieces of advice, but just one of the the best like artists
- 24:00conversations I've ever heard. Like, yeah, you don't really
- 24:03want. That's why you we're going to
- 24:05get back on track. But I just this is how it is.
- 24:09We talk about music. I think when it comes to these
- 24:12popcorn artists, these people that come and you see them and
- 24:14they come with a viral hit and they're gone like these are
- 24:17people that are obviously here for to get a bag.
- 24:20No, no shame in that, but you find you, you you have artists
- 24:24that have been in the game for decades and still relevant.
- 24:28Beyoncé being one of them, like one of my my favorite artists of
- 24:31all time. But even we're even seeing like
- 24:33modern artists right now. Like I think the Tyler, I think
- 24:36Tyler is going to be a household name in a few years, especially
- 24:39because Rihanna is not ever going to give us another album.
- 24:41Anyway. I'm not salty.
- 24:44I promise. It's about BTS.
- 24:45I'm sorry, but this is what I'm saying.
- 24:46This is why I think when we talk about BTS, it's it is outside of
- 24:50K Pop because this is they're they're in a different ear group
- 24:54than K pop itself. And that's not shade because I
- 24:57also am an enjoyer of K Pop. But BTS exists on a plane
- 25:01because of where they're at that they are kind of in a unique
- 25:06position with them being, like you said earlier or in the first
- 25:09part, aged out or perceived to be aged out of what typical
- 25:14what's typically, you know, allowed in K pop.
- 25:16But also just the style of music they do.
- 25:18Again, the reach that they have, all of that plays art.
- 25:22And so they are put in a different bracket.
- 25:24And when I talk about BTSI, actually compare them a lot to
- 25:27artists that are also in those same brackets.
- 25:30So you'll hear just disclaimer throughout this entire
- 25:34second-half of the podcast, I will be talking about other art,
- 25:38so. I feel like it ties into like
- 25:40the musical talk. So that's completely.
- 25:42Fine, yeah, I don't have any notes as far as like my
- 25:45enjoyment. I mean, I again, I this was this
- 25:47was probably when I sat down and ranked them and then rank is
- 25:52very loosely used. I can't really rank this album,
- 25:54but this is definitely my top three favorites off the album.
- 25:58So love this song. I don't think I think the
- 26:00choices that were made the right ones.
- 26:02That's probably, probably I get to say as far as that now if we
- 26:05want to. I don't know if this was one of
- 26:06the ones you had any lyrics and that you wanted to dive into.
- 26:10Yeah, I mean, I was just going to point out again, I guess for
- 26:12me, because I've already watched the concert, like I know the
- 26:15setlist, but I'm not saying anything.
- 26:17But you can tell this was meant to be like not only a way to
- 26:20just like open up the album, but it's it's a party song.
- 26:23Like it's a way to like get people hype.
- 26:25It's a way to like get people excited even within the lyrics.
- 26:28Like I'm looking now like the first thing that Nam June it is
- 26:31after like the whole introduction with like J Hope
- 26:34repeating I need and he like what you need twin.
- 26:36OK, anyway, sorry. When we get to that, his first
- 26:42word is I need the whole stadium to jump.
- 26:43So and then put your phone down. Let's all get all the fun.
- 26:47And that's another thing too, I guess, if we want to talk about
- 26:49music in general, because, you know, we're also addicted to our
- 26:52phones and we're also addicted to recording everything that
- 26:55includes concerts. So like, you can really tell if
- 26:57they're putting put your phone down in a song, they don't want
- 27:01you to be on your phone. They want you to live in the
- 27:03moment to enjoy. And this is definitely one of
- 27:07the songs where I think it will showcase that to just vibe out
- 27:11together, party together. And I feel bad for those of you
- 27:14who have front row because he already said he's watching y'all
- 27:18in the song. Like he literally said I got my.
- 27:20Eyes on the road front. And I would not want to be under
- 27:24the eye of Nam June for any reason at all.
- 27:27I don't want to be no. Not really.
- 27:30I mean, truthfully, I don't have that that sentiment as far as
- 27:33like I, I genuinely think in my right mind, which is most of the
- 27:37time I think that I could sit down and like have like a
- 27:40general conversation. I don't have this like delusion
- 27:43of like I'm going to pass out and seeing them.
- 27:44I don't have like that starstruck Ness about myself.
- 27:47But yeah. But I think there's something,
- 27:50like you said, about putting a spotlight on the culture that
- 27:54isn't now with like concert culture.
- 27:58I don't record shit. If you've ever been to a concert
- 28:00with me, I don't ask me for no video.
- 28:02People be like, make sure I don't see no pictures.
- 28:03But anytime you've been with me, we've been out together.
- 28:05I don't say no pictures, no. We went to a TS together.
- 28:08Yeah, we went to a TS together in fucking hot ass Texas in the
- 28:11middle of fucking what, June or July?
- 28:13Worst thing we ever made. But no, it was a good concert.
- 28:16But anyway, I don't take videos or photos because first of all,
- 28:20I know that in about 15 minutes somebody's going to have it on
- 28:23the Internet. I'm going to enjoy myself and I
- 28:26really wish that they were BTS was able to experience people
- 28:31being like that so they can feel like they're connecting because
- 28:35right now they're just connecting with the back of a
- 28:37phone and they're not seeing you.
- 28:40They want to see you. They want you to react, they
- 28:43want to engage and everybody's like makes it a big deal.
- 28:47And again, not to like trail off the people make it's like, oh,
- 28:50you people just want their wine moment.
- 28:51I would argue that some of these artists really want to engage
- 28:54with you because this is part of not just the job, but this is
- 28:58part of their lovecraft. Like against Segwayne to another
- 29:02artist. When we went to go a few years
- 29:05ago to see Beyoncé in concert for a Renaissance tour, Like
- 29:08when I say motherfuckers was in there like blubbering, crying.
- 29:10And she was like, legit like scoping the crowd to see like,
- 29:14and like pointing people out and like, it's, it's, it's, it's
- 29:18strange because like obviously these artists, these celebrities
- 29:22are so again, out of reach and they're still like this need to
- 29:26want to engage with the people who care, are supposed to care
- 29:29about you the most and who support you the most, which is
- 29:32your fans. And I think if people would just
- 29:35take a second. I'm not saying you don't record
- 29:37the concert. I know there are some instances
- 29:39where people have a heart. I saw this girl talk about it on
- 29:42TikTok, one about how they have a hard time remembering things
- 29:47and so they record to remember. But Alan, I'm not taking that
- 29:50away from you, but maybe take a minute, take us a couple songs
- 29:54just to be engageful, especially if you're in those front rows.
- 29:57Because, yeah, I think they'll, I think it's going to get to the
- 30:00point where they're going to start calling people out for
- 30:02real, like on stage like. And I would not want to be one
- 30:05of those multitude of people getting called out by any
- 30:08member, but especially not nom. He already said he's going to be
- 30:11on to be honest, so good luck to y'all in the front.
- 30:15Yeah, and I even found myself, I'm trying to do a better job of
- 30:19not recording so much because if I'm going to be honest, like I
- 30:21really don't go back after a certain amount of time to watch
- 30:24those videos. So it's like, why am I really
- 30:25recording them? So I should be more in the
- 30:27moment. I know with J Hope, the second
- 30:29day we were a little bit closer, I didn't have my phone out at
- 30:33all. I may have took in some videos
- 30:34with names phone when I was with her and Gina, but I tried to
- 30:38focus more on the concert. Same thing with Jen.
- 30:41And even when I went to go see twice, I would.
- 30:44I like to record like the openings, some introductions and
- 30:47then maybe like talking to the audience a little bit.
- 30:48But like when it comes to them actually performing, I am trying
- 30:51to do better to just like be in the moment so.
- 30:54And when most people doing multiple concerts, like you
- 30:57could literally just like not record everything and record
- 31:00someone day and something like another part another day and
- 31:03like, and then these tickets are not fucking cheap.
- 31:05And you should experience this and not just want something as
- 31:09like a trophy or like a again, I again, not to take away from
- 31:13people who want those reminders, but yeah, I think, I think
- 31:16there's some merit to what they're saying that I think they
- 31:19want people to really engage with them in the way that it's
- 31:25meant to be engaged with. Like this is how we're supposed
- 31:28to connect with BTS. We're supposed to connect with
- 31:30BTS to their music. Can't do that if they all
- 31:33they're seeing is the back of your fucking you know Apple
- 31:35phone or Samsung or whatever they're that they're not seeing
- 31:38you they're not seeing your reactions.
- 31:40I think I remember who was it was it was it J Honey's concert
- 31:47No, never mind it was a different it was 17th concert we
- 31:50were talking about anyway talking about how like they were
- 31:54looking out to the crowd and seeing the reactions of people
- 31:57like they're paying attention. You might not think they can see
- 31:59you or might not think that, you know, they're paying attention.
- 32:02But yeah, if you're having a real reaction and stuff, I think
- 32:05that they remember things like that.
- 32:06Like they're human, they see it. And so we've spent a lot of time
- 32:11on body to body. No, but overall, like I said, I
- 32:15think that, you know, with that the lyrics and that I genuinely
- 32:18do feel for the people in the front row because I, I feel like
- 32:21Nam Jin's petty enough start pointing people out
- 32:23individually. So also just real quick with
- 32:26body to body and then we're going to move on.
- 32:28I saw someone on Twitter mentioned because there's one
- 32:31part where Yungi starts his part where he says BT from everywhere
- 32:35to Korea. And they had pointed out how he
- 32:38didn't say the S because like when you translate BTS, it is
- 32:42bulletproof Boy Scouts. So if you take away the S, which
- 32:45is Sony and Don, it takes away the boys.
- 32:48So it also kind of points out like it's still BTS, but, you
- 32:53know, removing the boys, these are now men and acknowledging
- 32:57that they reach everywhere outside from Korea.
- 32:59So they're bringing all the world together with their music.
- 33:04Also with J Hope, I think that whole I don't think this was the
- 33:08shot by any means, but like I always think something different
- 33:12than probably the intention at the end of his verse on body to
- 33:15body. He was talking about like be
- 33:18about it, be about to be about it.
- 33:19You can you say? You can see about it or read
- 33:22about it. I'm looking at it right now.
- 33:23Yeah, yeah. And it's like terrible
- 33:26remembering there. But I think that part is just
- 33:29like, again, kind of going into people who have something to say
- 33:34always about them and their music.
- 33:37Like, well, you can see about it.
- 33:38You can come see about it or you can read about it, but you're
- 33:40still going to be engaging in it one way or the other.
- 33:43Like you can either be a part of this or you can read about it
- 33:45in, you know, the vlogs or the the reviews or like, I think
- 33:50that was kind of not a again, not a shot, but kind of like,
- 33:53you know, you can either be a part of this thing or you can be
- 33:57you can hate from outside the club, you know, essentially like
- 34:01that was another lyric that I was thinking of sitting here,
- 34:02like just talking about the rap lines.
- 34:05Because again, with the the vocal unit, I think one of the
- 34:08before we move on, one of the more interesting things I found
- 34:11with the first half of this album is like, it's very
- 34:14centered, obviously around like rap line with part of the vocal
- 34:17unit, which for so many in so many ways is kind of how they
- 34:21started. They were a, for lack of better
- 34:24words, not a necessarily a rap focus group, but they were
- 34:27primarily a rap group with vocal backing or vocal support.
- 34:32And I think that kind of is like a nod to that in a way, just
- 34:35with how how forward the first half of this album is to the rap
- 34:41line and just to the hip hop space.
- 34:45So yeah. Yeah, I completely agree.
- 34:47So let's go on to song #2 which is one of my favorites
- 34:52personally. I got it from the first list and
- 34:54I know Shay over there rolling her eyes because there is one
- 34:57part she couldn't mess with at first.
- 35:00Hopefully grew on her. But it is Hooligan, which we
- 35:03actually did later on get a music video for.
- 35:07So it's produced by El Cuccino. You got?
- 35:15It I believe. Is a fake like fake Guido?
- 35:17Is that how you say it? I don't know.
- 35:19OK. And and Jasper Harris lyric
- 35:23credits by Pablo Diaz Reexa, who was actually El Guido's real
- 35:29name. I don't know if this is a typo
- 35:31or not. I don't know if it's Michael or
- 35:34Miguel. Mac Magnet Pablo Martinez,
- 35:38Albert and Marcus Mark Low Lomax.
- 35:43This is what I meant by apologize.
- 35:45You did it. OK, So referencing the studio
- 35:49notes again, J Hope actually gave John Cook pretty much all
- 35:53the credit for the song he remembers in LA.
- 35:56Like John Cook was so excited to, like, show him that he was
- 35:59working on this song. And then JK kind of stated,
- 36:03like, for some reason, the word like hooligan kept coming to his
- 36:05mind. And he didn't know that this
- 36:07would end up being like, the title of the song.
- 36:10And we also learned during the Spotify event in New York that
- 36:13it was John Cook who added in the laugh that rap line does in
- 36:16the song, which I love and I find incredibly sexy.
- 36:21I'm just going to say it, OK? They also really thanked El
- 36:26Pacino in this for helping put the song together.
- 36:30And I didn't know because Namju mentioned this, that he is like
- 36:34basically Rosalia's right hand man and talked about his style
- 36:38of music, which as you can tell, Lala's not here.
- 36:41And I know she stated there was one song she wanted to talk
- 36:46about. I don't know if it was this one,
- 36:48but I also know there's like some controversy with Rosalia
- 36:51with like the Hispanic community because she's like Spanish, but
- 36:56like I guess in the start of her musics, I'm not part of the
- 36:59Hispanic community. But I guess in their way, like
- 37:02think she was kind of in her own way, like cosplaying Hispanic
- 37:08music. So I don't know anything about
- 37:11that, but I just wanted to point that out.
- 37:12I wasn't sure. But then, yeah, I can't really
- 37:16explain the hooligan music video.
- 37:18I like it. They've done 3 music videos that
- 37:21we'll talk about. I'll just say it now, 2.0 swim
- 37:24and hooligan. I will be honest, 2.0 is my
- 37:27favorite for many reasons. We'll talk about when we get
- 37:29into the song, but I did enjoy the hooligan one.
- 37:32They just went very I do think they kind of went back to the
- 37:35roots in this. It was very like dark and then
- 37:37like, I don't know, mysterious. I love the woman with the
- 37:40swords. That was very cool and that and
- 37:42just like I guess Shay has said this one time or she got this
- 37:46from someone, it was just like if BTS had money back then, this
- 37:48type of music video they would make.
- 37:50So yeah. It's it's debut BTS, but this
- 37:53time with money, so yeah. Basically.
- 37:56Which there are there's a whole with the music video, there's a
- 37:59whole like thread, I think of people who have found
- 38:01similarities between hooligan and not today, just a lot of
- 38:05like shots that are very reminiscent of that music video,
- 38:09which again, like once again, going back to the roots, Those
- 38:12are early days, very hip hop forward.
- 38:14Makes a lot of sense. Just to touch on the my issue
- 38:18with the with the album had nothing to do with like, I mean,
- 38:22I will say this and I'll just point it out because I think it
- 38:24need it just deserves to be pointed out.
- 38:26Like I there has been a little bit of controversy with the term
- 38:29hooligan. It is a yes, for lack of better
- 38:33words. It is a derogatory word I
- 38:36believe is what I've I've seen some people say.
- 38:40I think with the Irish, I could be wrong on that.
- 38:44I might be wrong on that, but I think it's the Irish.
- 38:46I don't see a whole lot of people like talking in a way
- 38:50being offended by it. It's just more or less like, why
- 38:53would they? Why would they use this term if
- 38:56it is a specific, like if it if it is a supposed offensive term,
- 39:00which again, once again, like I said, the album's not above
- 39:03critique. I don't know what other word
- 39:06they could have supplemented that would have made sense.
- 39:08So it's one of those things that's just like, I get it, I
- 39:10understand, but there's nothing I don't know.
- 39:13There's I have no further comments on that.
- 39:16I will just say, like I say with everything, she found something
- 39:18offensive. That's a valid emotion.
- 39:21You're a valid and feeling that way.
- 39:23I personally, my personal experience has never, never come
- 39:27across anyone who's ever been offended by that.
- 39:29But again, I'm not ever. I can't do all places of them
- 39:31once. So we'll just leave that there.
- 39:33My issue with the song had nothing to do with anything
- 39:36offensive other than I'm very sensitive ears and like
- 39:41specifically to when like cutlery is being scraped against
- 39:47anything. So like forks scraped on like a
- 39:49glass or like a ceramic plate or people when they eat and they
- 39:54pull the fork or the spoon and they raise their teeth, I can
- 39:57hear it even if we're in a crowded room, hear it and it
- 40:00just. Like that first nice slice, I
- 40:03literally threw my headphones out of my ears and I just
- 40:05stopped because I couldn't go. I was like, there's no way
- 40:08that's going through the entire song.
- 40:10And it was better to the you know, as they as it was very
- 40:14loud, obviously in the beginning and the end, the ending.
- 40:16But throughout the album it had kind of the mixing definitely
- 40:20kind of leveled out. And then also the different I
- 40:23cannot listen to that song with earbuds.
- 40:25I have to listen to that song in a big speaker because it's just
- 40:29just OK enough for me not to like literally almost like
- 40:32convulse. But overall, like the song for
- 40:35me probably isn't in my it's not my top favorite of the I do say
- 40:40that I do literally look at this album in like the halfway on the
- 40:44front half, these are my favorites and on the back half,
- 40:47these are my favorite. So of the of the front half, I
- 40:50would say that this this rate is pretty low to me as a as a song.
- 40:55For me, it's not it wasn't my favorite.
- 40:57It's grown on me though, for sure.
- 41:00With the music video, much like you, I think that for me it goes
- 41:052 point O cool again and Swim for music video.
- 41:10As far as as far as interest, like I think they're I think
- 41:13they're just to segue a little bit.
- 41:14I think that all the music videos are very interesting, but
- 41:18I think that they're interesting for different reasons.
- 41:20And I think as a completed music video and all the things that I
- 41:24like out of the music video, I think 2 point O hits all those
- 41:26marks for me. But I think that hooligan is a
- 41:28is a is a good track. I don't think it's a bad track.
- 41:30I just think it's the weakest of the first half of these songs.
- 41:35I was really I was wrong on this when I were talking about the
- 41:39production. I thought this was going to be
- 41:41more Latin based. I mean, that could also just be
- 41:43ignorance because it's it's definitely very laced with more
- 41:48Latin esque producers and writers and things like that.
- 41:53But I mean, you know, I was pleasantly surprised and, you
- 41:56know, wrong in that aspect, but. There is a line that Yungi says
- 42:01like L. Yeah, that's what's all I want
- 42:04to talk about, I think. OK, because I was seeing people
- 42:07online again, this goes into the whole not every like racer
- 42:12ethnicity is a model list. So I was seeing people
- 42:14especially like I think down in Mexico, I don't know how I ended
- 42:18up in their Twitter space being very happy about that shadow.
- 42:21But I'm sure like you stated, there were some people that did
- 42:24it. And that's why I said when I
- 42:26talked about that guy being Rosalia's right hand man, I
- 42:29figured this was the song she wanted to talk about.
- 42:32So I don't know what that means for me because I don't know who
- 42:36that is as far as the person this Elle or if this is a brand,
- 42:40is this a person, the El? Wincho, Wincho.
- 42:44Is, I say, El quecho? From what I'm looking at here,
- 42:48because I have the Wikipedia open too, this is professional
- 42:52is Pablo Diaz, professionally known as El Buencho, is a
- 42:56Spanish musician, singer and he's a record producer.
- 42:58So he seems to have his hands just in a bunch of different
- 43:02things. I don't know, not really sure
- 43:06what the what the issue is with that.
- 43:08So. Because the word I'm looking at
- 43:09is LCUCUY. That's an actual lyric.
- 43:13I think is a what and I'm probably, I'm not 100% correct,
- 43:18so please forgive me for anybody who's listening to this and feel
- 43:21free to comment and say that I'm a dumb ass.
- 43:23But from what I saw, it is a like a like a what's it called?
- 43:29Like a like almost like a boogeyman that parents used to
- 43:32use for their kids so they wouldn't get out of bed or
- 43:34something like that. Kind of OK, it's kind of a
- 43:37reminisce to that and I, but I think also Yungi has said that
- 43:41it's also a boxer. Like it's a nickname for a
- 43:44boxer, which we found. I don't know anymore because
- 43:46apparently this man's stage name is based off boxing now.
- 43:49Oh my God, I've heard. Three different stories, so I
- 43:52don't know anymore. Yungi, just listen, men lie, OK?
- 43:56Just just more of the. Story All men do is lie.
- 43:59All men do is lie. And whether or not that's true,
- 44:02it's neither here nor there. I'm just going to be like, OK,
- 44:04Yungi, whatever. Yeah, OK, what's the whatever
- 44:07you say? Yeah, sure.
- 44:09I mean, we all have a grandparent had a grandparent
- 44:11that used to lie about everything.
- 44:13So I feel like that's he's grandpa, he's no lie.
- 44:16So yeah, I mean, and listen, I am by by any means.
- 44:21I'm not by like and I, you know, I do, you know, get well, La La.
- 44:25I know you're under the weather. I would love, love to hear, you
- 44:28know, her viewpoint on it. But like for me, I just feel
- 44:32like I am not connected to whatever the controversy is
- 44:36behind these people. So I can't really speak on it.
- 44:39Unfortunately, the only, and again, the only controversy I've
- 44:42seen is more or less of the title of the of the song and
- 44:45that being kind of a quote, UN quote derogatory term.
- 44:48And then the El Cuqui, I probably fucked that up.
- 44:53But again, it's been kind of split down the middle of people
- 44:56being like, Oh my God, how does he know about that?
- 44:57It versus it being used in a derogatory way.
- 45:01And then of course there's the whole possibly as a nickname of
- 45:04a boxer he enjoys so, but I think just the line itself, what
- 45:09is it? What is it translated to in
- 45:11English? Do you have it?
- 45:11Hang on, let me pull it back up. So it's like, how do you
- 45:14pronounce that word El cuchi? I don't want to say I feel like
- 45:18I'm saying cuchi. So that's why I'm like please
- 45:20help me. Yeah, that, yeah.
- 45:24OK, so like this, this thing, it goes without saying.
- 45:29And then it goes into hooligan. Like hooligan, smash up like
- 45:33hooligan. What's the line between that?
- 45:35Get out of the way out. And then I was going to, I mean,
- 45:38I can bring you up now. He says all clear a song MU,
- 45:42which apparently means nothing abnormal.
- 45:44But it's also like in Korean, typically something that's used
- 45:48in like a military setting. So I guess it often serves as
- 45:50the concluding remark of a verbal report.
- 45:53So it's kind of like Yugi's way of like signaling his verse and
- 45:58then like to when we saw because like he did this in the Netflix
- 46:02stage 2, where like when he gets to, I think after the hooligan,
- 46:07like hooligan, he's kind of like talking to one of the dancers,
- 46:10remember, when he's like rapping at them.
- 46:12So yeah. Just for him not to look at them
- 46:15during the video, but it's OK. Listen, that man is working on
- 46:19his icons. I actually is he working on a
- 46:22man has trouble with eye contact.
- 46:24OK, just let him be. I mean, just fine.
- 46:26I understand me too. Yeah, but yeah, I like I said, I
- 46:30have no real, I have no real like dislike of the song.
- 46:33I just add up the songs that we have on the first half.
- 46:36It's wouldn't it wouldn't be the one that I would be like, Oh
- 46:40yeah, this one bangs slap. You know, like that's not
- 46:43personally my it's not my favorite, but it's but that does
- 46:46not mean it's not a good track. I do think it's a very well
- 46:49produced track. I think you know the it's gone
- 46:53very viral there for many reasons.
- 46:54I mean the between Jen and J KS dance and.
- 46:57Yes, I love that part so much. Yeah, people walking around
- 47:01doing it that's and it's so funny that you know, like you
- 47:03just never know what's going to go viral of what part just never
- 47:06know like it. And it's it would be something
- 47:08simple like digging and walking in a certain way that that's
- 47:12what has become the viral part. But I do think this one had the
- 47:16most of the releases of the released ones, it did have the
- 47:20more like viral capabilities. So like I said, overall.
- 47:24And also oh. I was.
- 47:29Going to say do you also want to talk about because I don't know
- 47:31if this was a problem or not but I was seeing people talk about
- 47:35the drop it lower than chopped and screwed if you want.
- 47:37To touch. Base on that too.
- 47:40I mean here, listen, I was actually kind of like, damn,
- 47:42y'all had a missed opportunity. I could have actually done some
- 47:45chopped and screwed music in here, like chopped it down and
- 47:48like, so again, it's one of those things that's like for
- 47:52those who know, we were like for those, OK, because I'm I come
- 47:56from the South and not from Texas, but I'm very close to
- 47:59Texas and a lot of my upbringing was chopped and screwed music
- 48:04Swish a house and you know, like Bun B Pimp C, like all of all of
- 48:09that, like Houston, TX, very reminiscent of of my youth,
- 48:15right. And so for me, hearing BTS
- 48:18saying chop this real life, first of all, who taught you
- 48:19that? And second of all, like it was
- 48:22like a nod to like this particular type of music.
- 48:27And I get why people feel like it felt kind of I don't know
- 48:31what the word would be that just like like it felt kind of maybe
- 48:35unnecessary, but like it were because says, why does bassline
- 48:40slapping so rude? I mean, sometimes when I'm in
- 48:43the car and I got a nice system and a bit like I'd be in the
- 48:46truck right now, listen to shit in the base, I'd be like you
- 48:48make a stank face. That's rude.
- 48:50You know, it make it makes sense.
- 48:52It may not be the most, you know, correct vernacular to say
- 48:55it in that way, but again, it's it's playing upon the next part,
- 48:59which is dropped it lower, Drop it lower than chop and screwed.
- 49:03Technically when you're chopping and screwing music, you aren't
- 49:05lowering or dropping the key most of the time.
- 49:10So it starts off in a certain key.
- 49:12And with shopping screwed music it will drop down to a lower
- 49:15register to get that distorted sound.
- 49:18So it makes fucking sense. Like I I don't.
- 49:21And again, if you don't know something, it's OK not to know
- 49:24something. Which I didn't.
- 49:25Yeah, but to write it off is like, it doesn't make sense.
- 49:28Do you listen to this music? Do you know anything about it?
- 49:31And I'm not trying to sound like I'm just high and mighty, but
- 49:33again, I am. This is my this is what I was,
- 49:36you know, this is what the shit that I listened to growing up.
- 49:39So these things make sense. I don't think that it was.
- 49:42And again, we know who's literally in these credits
- 49:45they've got. I think Jasper Harris is one of
- 49:49the guys. Yeah, I was going to stay before
- 49:52we had moved on. I I realized I didn't write down
- 49:55all the people who were credited in the writing lyrics.
- 49:58So let me do that now, because after Marcus Lomax, there was
- 50:02also explicit John Cook, the Lacy Jasper Harris, who was also
- 50:07in the producer credits RMJ, Hope Sugar, Derek Milano, P Dog
- 50:13and Kirsten Alyssa Spencer. So I forgot to mention that
- 50:17earlier and I want to make sure I mentioned them before we moved
- 50:20on. Yeah, Jasper Lee Harris has
- 50:21worked with Baby Kimi, Kendrick Lamar on Family Tie Delacy has
- 50:29She's a songwriter, so she's worked with a few notable
- 50:33people. I'm just kind of looking through
- 50:35them right now just to kind of give an idea.
- 50:37Yeah. I mean, and like I said, you
- 50:39know how much, you know how much like people like, oh, this is
- 50:42not offense them. You know how many rappers right
- 50:44now who exist in the rap spaces rap about shit they've never
- 50:48done? Like like the amount of rappers
- 50:50that talk about things that they've never drink and lean
- 50:52that they've never drank, don't even know how to mix it.
- 50:54Like, I mean, it's not uncommon for hip hop, especially these
- 50:58new age rappers and some old ones and who have never done
- 51:01half the shit they said or experienced half the shit they
- 51:04talk about. If it rhymes and it works, it
- 51:06works. And not to say, once again, not
- 51:08trying to belittle like the AAD conversation or, or the AAD
- 51:12conversation or anything like that or using certain
- 51:15vernaculars in in a certain way and and making sense.
- 51:17I think sometimes my opinion that we get hung up on it
- 51:23because it's easy. It's a very easy, it's an easy
- 51:26shot. It's low hanging fruit.
- 51:27But personally for me, I didn't see a problem with it.
- 51:30I was actually kind of disappointed in the fact that no
- 51:33one chopped and screwed anything.
- 51:34Like if you're going to say it, then do it like, so I'm actually
- 51:37looking for a good chopped and screwed version.
- 51:39I think it would be interesting for like a DJ to mix that in and
- 51:42like actually do that, you know, I think it would be cool.
- 51:45Hopefully maybe somebody will be on that on, you know, YouTube
- 51:48eventually. So that was pretty much hooligan
- 51:52and again, you know, just talking about they're coming
- 51:55back, acting like fools on this beat, like hooligans.
- 51:59And then you also got like Nam June making clear statements
- 52:03like where is it? Oh, like they're the mess.
- 52:07Get a bigger mop here, but also like this is that K got to get a
- 52:10better pop here, which surprise no one really talks about as
- 52:14much. I feel like that's a very, you
- 52:16know, powerful line, especially relating to them as being like K
- 52:21pop artists. But then like again, the way
- 52:24even fans to talk about like how they're bigger than the K pop
- 52:27genre. So kind of see that reflected in
- 52:30that one line. Yeah, I mean, there's nothing in
- 52:34my opinion. I feel like people, I feel like
- 52:36people feel like speaking upon your accolade that you've
- 52:41earned, whether you feel like they've earned them in the right
- 52:43way or not is irrelevant. But speaking about yourself in a
- 52:47way that is boastful feels arrogant.
- 52:51I don't know. I just feel like not even trying
- 52:52to like give a pass or like I do think that hip hop as a genre is
- 52:57very competitive. It used to be a lot of it is.
- 53:01I mean the whole like reason the like Kendrick Lamar and
- 53:05Drakeship was so jarring for a lot of people that witnessed
- 53:10that in real time is in the beginning of all that Kendrick
- 53:13is essentially saying there can only be 1 great of this of our
- 53:17generation, you know what I mean?
- 53:19And it's me so literally just saying, hey, y'all not seeing
- 53:23me, you know, y'all not seeing me in this rap thing for real.
- 53:26Like I'm the best period, point blank and just say that, you
- 53:29know what I mean? And where you have like J.
- 53:32Cole for instance, who was like love J.
- 53:34Cole, shout him out, you know, was like there's room for
- 53:37everybody. And in a way there is, but
- 53:39there's always going to be somebody who is considered the
- 53:42great of that generation. Now people argue all day long in
- 53:46the past about is it Tupac, Is it Biggie?
- 53:48It's an East Coast, West Coast thing.
- 53:50And the reason I think why rap is so rap and hip hop in general
- 53:55is such a partially competitive genre is because of the
- 54:02inclusion of being able to take those shots.
- 54:05You know, being able to like say that you are the best at this or
- 54:09that the person that you're talking about or the disc that
- 54:11you're sending is it's going to hit in the way it does.
- 54:15And so people think that, you know, if RM I'm not saying
- 54:18anybody said this, but I think the sentiment around why people
- 54:21maybe not talking about it is because there's a bit of
- 54:23arrogance that comes with basically saying what he said as
- 54:26far as like we decay, you will need to need a better pot.
- 54:29Like not for nothing, but a lot of K pop was not that great in
- 54:33their absence. And I'm not even like I'm again,
- 54:35I love certain groups. I think certain groups did very
- 54:38well, but I think K pop as a whole was on a decline when it
- 54:43comes to the sound and the experimentation.
- 54:45And I'm not going to sit here and act like BTS wasn't a part
- 54:48of that because I do think it's a part of that.
- 54:50I think there are certain groups that move the needle and there's
- 54:54certain, and that's that's that way in the West too.
- 54:56There are artists that move needles.
- 54:58Look at Beyoncé, nobody was really not even trying to like
- 55:01give her the full credit, but like Beyoncé dropped Cowboy
- 55:04Carter and we started seeing a lot of people being interested
- 55:07in making country music all of a sudden, you know what I mean?
- 55:10There are some artists that just move the needle and that's OK.
- 55:12That doesn't make, I mean, in my mind, it doesn't make them a
- 55:14great, but there are just some people that push the needle in
- 55:17the direction that where music needs to go.
- 55:19And BTS for K Pop I believe is one of those groups that does
- 55:23that. So he's just speaking what he
- 55:26feels and what he's experienced especially.
- 55:29And even if you don't look at it from the whole K Pop book, just
- 55:31look at it from a hive standpoint, I would not be
- 55:34shocked if in the next quarter or so we're seeing some
- 55:39similarities, maybe not verbatim, but some similarities
- 55:42to what we're what we've seen on Audi Dong in other work.
- 55:48So yeah, that's who we can. Yes, so on to the next song,
- 55:54which listen, I keep saying this, the first half before the
- 55:58bell is my absolute favorite. I'm just going to be honest.
- 56:01So like how there's a point, you know, a side A and a side B, I'm
- 56:04more of a side A. So I'm going to say a majority
- 56:07of of the first half, except for one song, But I I like it now
- 56:11and it's grown on me is my jam. And you know, I still like the
- 56:15second-half though. Like she had mentioned earlier,
- 56:17I listened to this fully. Like I don't skip a song or
- 56:20anything, even if it's like lower on my personal ranking,
- 56:23which says a lot because I'm actually not an animal person.
- 56:26I usually am just a singles girl.
- 56:28So, but yes, we're going to move on to the next track, Aliens.
- 56:34So this one was produced by Mike Will Made it, which is a very
- 56:39well known name in the hip hop community.
- 56:43Is it plus Loose plus? Loose.
- 56:46Probably. Loose OK Doughnut and Khaled
- 56:52Roham, with writing credits by Michael Land Williams.
- 56:56The second, which I found out is actually Michael Made's real
- 56:59name. RM Ashton Terrence O'Neill.
- 57:05Did I forget commas in these or is that one person?
- 57:08Oh no, that's one person. So yes, Ashton, Terrance, O'Neil
- 57:12Hogan, Brandon, Kenneth. Yeah, Brandon Kenneth Bell, who
- 57:17is also Donut, that's his Yeah. Oh, OK, see, that makes sense.
- 57:21Like, like who's this person? But yes.
- 57:23Brandon Kenneth Bell, Khalid Roham, Charles Henshaw, Jean
- 57:30Marcel Day Junior, James Essen, J Hope, John Cook, Sugar, John
- 57:37Mitchell, Derek Milano and P Dog.
- 57:40Yeah. And I mean, I know this song.
- 57:45It basically speaks for itself. It's this is the one where I
- 57:48also talked about in the first part where BTS actually does
- 57:51talk about not really their struggle, but just like kind of
- 57:54mentions being Korean and like other and the music industry,
- 58:00especially the music industry in the West.
- 58:02Literally aliens is a word that is used in the USI don't know
- 58:06about any other country, but like we refer to like
- 58:09foreigners, usually in a derogatory way as illegal
- 58:12aliens. So that's also it too.
- 58:16And apparently this song was almost titled Endless that I
- 58:19learned in the studio notes when the song didn't really have a
- 58:23structure at first, but because that's what they kept calling
- 58:26it, which I find it interesting. For the whole Jimmy Fallon
- 58:29incident, Yugi had mentioned that since so many Korean media
- 58:34had gone international when they're in the military like
- 58:38Squid Games 3 and Shay's favorite movie K Pop Demon
- 58:42Hunters, no one really acts if they're from North or South
- 58:47Korea anymore. And Nam Jun even mentioned that
- 58:50people who still do that now are looked at as weird side eye.
- 58:56And then they started talking about all the years when they
- 58:59had to promote in America and like how Naam June was the only
- 59:02one that could speak English. So they stayed there, trying
- 59:05very hard to study to help them, which you can see a little bit
- 59:09more in these recent interviews, but yeah.
- 59:12Yeah. Because Yungi is a fully
- 59:14functional English speaking person.
- 59:16He's just. As we keep stating, he's very
- 59:19he's quietly, secretly fluent in English.
- 59:22He just don't want to be the one talking.
- 59:24Very much so. I I, I, I I see you though, Sir.
- 59:28Yeah, Aliens is is probably no shock to anybody.
- 59:31My favorite of the top half. Very much a Michael made it
- 59:36early. I feel like now he also produced
- 59:39the another track on this record.
- 59:42Aliens is legit the swaggiest fucking song I think that
- 59:47they've done in a long time. I mean, I listen to this shit.
- 59:50I, I, I think I was stuck here for a minute on like my 5th or
- 59:546th listen. I got stuck on aliens for like a
- 59:58good hour. And so I'm one of those like I'm
- 1:00:00the autistic type that just listen, let's shit repeat over
- 1:00:03and over and never get tired of it.
- 1:00:04I'm one of them aliens. I think outside of just the
- 1:00:08lyricism, I think is probably one of the, again, I.
- 1:00:13Just a little bit of a side note here.
- 1:00:14People got upset throughout this entire project because of so
- 1:00:17many quote UN quote hands in the pot when it comes to like
- 1:00:21producers and stuff. I would argue that if they're if
- 1:00:24this album wasn't good, if it wasn't produced well, then I
- 1:00:28feel like BTS got scammed. So you have people like Michael
- 1:00:32made it like Diplo, like Ryan Tedder, like JPEG mafia.
- 1:00:36You have that's a Diplo, right? I think that's a Diplo, but
- 1:00:39Diplo and you have the man that worked.
- 1:00:41I can't think of his name right now before talk about later, the
- 1:00:43man that worked on Bad Bunny's album.
- 1:00:45You have all these people who are very notably involved in the
- 1:00:49music industry. If if this wasn't done well, I
- 1:00:53think that would be even greater cause for more upset because it
- 1:00:57feels like they got jib. But overall, I think that I've
- 1:01:01said this before that this album as a whole is probably one of
- 1:01:03the better produced albums that they have.
- 1:01:05And I know that comes off very like, Oh my God, how could you
- 1:01:08think that? And you know, BTS is produced,
- 1:01:11yes, and I'm not I'm not saying that that takes away from it,
- 1:01:14but I would be side eyeing this if it wasn't one of their more
- 1:01:18better produced on because of all the hands in the pie and
- 1:01:21because of the names that are connected to this might well
- 1:01:23made. It is very much a very popular.
- 1:01:26I mean, his tag alone will let you know that it's either time
- 1:01:30to twerk like it's some of those masks or time to get lit in
- 1:01:34general. And I think he delivered very
- 1:01:37well on this song. It is my it is my favorite.
- 1:01:40I am biased. Whatever, you know, he's done,
- 1:01:44he's worked on like big, big hits.
- 1:01:47I mean, one of his bigger hits is obviously like Black Beatles
- 1:01:49by Ray Stroman. I always say that wrong.
- 1:01:51I'm pretty sure I said it wrong then, too.
- 1:01:53But that obviously had its own, you know, cult following.
- 1:01:57Hey. Don't also forget the one he did
- 1:01:59with Wiz Khalifa and Miley Cyrus that was part of my generation.
- 1:02:03Of course, cannot forget 23. He's also done.
- 1:02:09High off per my shades on. Yeah, OK.
- 1:02:12Miley was trying to be a rapper. Yeah, you know, that was the,
- 1:02:14you know, that was Bangers Miley.
- 1:02:16We've not seen Bangers Miley in a while.
- 1:02:18No, also done. You know what I mean?
- 1:02:21I'm A2 Chainz girlie, so he's working 2 Chainz a whole lot
- 1:02:25fans and Mega Dance by Juicy J pulled up by Rihanna and again
- 1:02:30he was on the bangers album We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus,
- 1:02:32formation by Beyoncé. I mean his humble by Kendrick
- 1:02:35list goes on. Man is very decorated.
- 1:02:37So him being a part of this project really did something to
- 1:02:40my spirit because I once again, there's a couple of producers
- 1:02:45that I know them by their tag and I know what they bring to a
- 1:02:48project. And he is like, very, I mean, I
- 1:02:51think it's deserving of all of the flowers and accolades on his
- 1:02:55production here. I think it's one of the better
- 1:02:57sounding and the better engineered songs as far as the
- 1:03:02structure of the where everything's placed as far as
- 1:03:06like who's doing what part. And it just feels very much
- 1:03:10like, it doesn't feel like a diss track because I don't think
- 1:03:13it is much of A diss track, but it kind of just is like a
- 1:03:16popular shit track. And yeah, I, I think on the
- 1:03:20production side, it was very nice to get that tag that like
- 1:03:25Will made it tag and like that was, I was like it.
- 1:03:28It felt like I was powering the fuck up when I first heard it
- 1:03:31the first time. So very endless.
- 1:03:33And then obviously this, this song bangs in every aspect.
- 1:03:36What no matter what, what medium you listen to it in.
- 1:03:40So very well produced, very well crafted, very much an ode, I
- 1:03:45think, to some of his earlier work.
- 1:03:47He knows how to make a viral hit.
- 1:03:49But yeah, I'm glad that they were able to do these collabs
- 1:03:52with him. Yeah.
- 1:03:54And as far as the lyrics go, I don't know if you have anything
- 1:03:56written down. Yeah, I have a few.
- 1:03:59So like in J hopes part God, it's too late for me to try to
- 1:04:02talk to Korea, but I guess I will.
- 1:04:05So he says Baksu Cho Hondurao Jung Modi, which means clap your
- 1:04:10hands and shake your body to the Jung Modi rhythm.
- 1:04:14And Jung Modi is actually like a type of I guess it's Chong Dong,
- 1:04:19which is Korean traditional rhythm.
- 1:04:20I've came across a TikTok of a guy like explaining it more.
- 1:04:24If I can find it, I'm a link in the description because I
- 1:04:26thought it was really interesting.
- 1:04:27Like he went through the actual beats that's in a Jung Modi.
- 1:04:32And like talks about like how they're kind of like kind of
- 1:04:34like how BTS talks about especially towards the end, he
- 1:04:37says the rhythm is kind of the same as a Jung Modi.
- 1:04:41Like I guess the production of the song, it's slightly off, but
- 1:04:44it's kind of the same at the same time.
- 1:04:46And it goes to like the beats of like when someone's walking or
- 1:04:49stepping. I'm not sure if he was using
- 1:04:51like royalty sense maybe. I can't remember if he mentioned
- 1:04:54that or not. So I thought that was very
- 1:04:57interesting. But even in Jacob's verse along
- 1:05:00because it's called like aliens, he asks the questions like, Oh
- 1:05:03my God, do I look too funny, like strange and different.
- 1:05:07But like also, what are you going to do about it?
- 1:05:09I know when we get to the chorus, like think John Cook
- 1:05:12starts it off where he says from the Ghana to the Hob, which it's
- 1:05:16like a Korean version from A-Z and their alphabet.
- 1:05:21And then it goes like, watch us and learn.
- 1:05:24Yeah, we're aliens. If you want to hit my house Shin
- 1:05:26bottom boso listen guys, I haven't practiced my career in a
- 1:05:32while. I apologize, but that basically
- 1:05:34means take off your shoes, which as we know, especially at Asian
- 1:05:38cultures like you do not wear your shoes in the house.
- 1:05:41And even in like Asian households, lovely snow and like
- 1:05:43action Asian countries, they have like when you first walk
- 1:05:47into the house, that whole like little sections where you're
- 1:05:50supposed to take off your shoes before you actually walk in
- 1:05:53there. So it's like, if you want us to
- 1:05:55play your games, you can also play our games as well.
- 1:06:01I know we talked about when Nam Jun and Yugi had mentioned no
- 1:06:05one asks them anymore the difference between like South
- 1:06:08and North Korea. Because there's a line where he
- 1:06:10said, let me honey, talk about the business.
- 1:06:13Everybody now know where the K is.
- 1:06:15So like knowing where K pop comes from, where you don't have
- 1:06:18to ask them that question. I'm just going to do all this at
- 1:06:22once. There's also a part where he
- 1:06:25says, pardon Kim Ku song sing name.
- 1:06:28Tell me how you feel, which is Mr. Kim Ku who's actually AI
- 1:06:35found a TikTok. There's this guy I follow and I
- 1:06:36linked two of his videos because he talked about the bell to
- 1:06:39which I'll talk about when we get there.
- 1:06:41His name is Junu park. He's Korean Canadian, but he
- 1:06:44gets a lot of really great Korean facts and he talked about
- 1:06:48how Kim Ku was a Korean independence activists and
- 1:06:51statements and they saw gene news parks TikTok.
- 1:06:56He's talked about how Mr. Kim was a very prominent leader of
- 1:07:01the Korean independence movement who later became a political
- 1:07:05like a politician in the new liberated Korea from Japan until
- 1:07:09he was unfortunately assassinated in 1949.
- 1:07:13But he stated how Kim Ku's wish was for Korea to not be an
- 1:07:18economic or military superpower, but to be a cultural superpower,
- 1:07:22which is very interesting. Yeah, I think just going back
- 1:07:25through some of it, JK. And the if you want to hit my
- 1:07:30house, like take your shoes off 1st.
- 1:07:31It's like almost, you know, people, it's not, it's not
- 1:07:34similar, but it's kind of reminded me of like, you know,
- 1:07:38it's a bad, it's a bad metaphor or like similarity.
- 1:07:41But it's like that whole like sentiment of like where you fuck
- 1:07:46me, could you take me to dinner first?
- 1:07:47Like it's kind of giving me that in my mind, like, you know, and
- 1:07:51I like if you're going to like talk shit, at least take your
- 1:07:54shoes off. You know what I mean?
- 1:07:55Like if you're going to hit my house, if you're going to hit me
- 1:07:57or like, because again, house safe space is a place,
- 1:07:59especially jki think that he goes and and is able to like be
- 1:08:03his most authentic self. If you're going to hit hit my
- 1:08:05house, take your shoes off first.
- 1:08:07Like like that's really a clever in my I mean, is it like the
- 1:08:10most clever? No way.
- 1:08:11I think it's a very clever and very unique to I think him as
- 1:08:14well. Yeah, I think when it comes to I
- 1:08:17mean, like, again, we go back into the conversation of people
- 1:08:20had something to say about the lyricism and like they'd be in
- 1:08:24the old BTSI feel like, yeah, they're they're essentially
- 1:08:27still popping they shit as they should, making the references,
- 1:08:32making the the callbacks to, you know, again, figures in their
- 1:08:36culture. And I think it's this is one of
- 1:08:38those songs where people had a problem with it and the and and
- 1:08:43the song was literally calling these people out of the thing
- 1:08:46that they had a problem about. It's just like like y'all don't
- 1:08:48really listen at all. It seems like you know, but
- 1:08:52can't expect that can't expect that from some people.
- 1:08:55But overall, I think again, this song well, very well done.
- 1:09:00It is a favorite of mine and it's I think it is one of those
- 1:09:05that when it when it does, because I know it's I know it's
- 1:09:07going to be on the set list. I will definitely be losing my
- 1:09:11fucking mind if I'm not going to remember much of it.
- 1:09:13Be honest. Yeah, we're all.
- 1:09:16I'm going to try not to lose my voice when I hear this live at
- 1:09:19the ending of the yeah, we land on it and stand on it.
- 1:09:22I'm going to go absolutely insane.
- 1:09:24I'm. I'm going to be screaming like
- 1:09:26I'm on that stage, OK? I'm just warning people now and
- 1:09:29I. Mean it that's even calling back
- 1:09:31to that, like you know, yeah, we land on it and stand on it, put
- 1:09:35the stamp on it. Like I mean they're standing on
- 1:09:37bit. It's like we're standing on
- 1:09:38business. Like, I think it's more or less
- 1:09:42kind of, I don't think I say this kind of, I guess naively, I
- 1:09:46think there'll always be this like stigma's not the right
- 1:09:50word, but it is for now. There's going to always be this
- 1:09:53thing that follows BTS when it comes to crossing into this
- 1:09:56market where it's like you're always going to be seen as
- 1:09:59other, unfortunately, because of where you're from.
- 1:10:01And I think that with a song like this and with the context
- 1:10:05in this song, it's like they don't really give a shit.
- 1:10:07Like they don't really care. They don't care like they're
- 1:10:10they're they're confident who they are as artists, but also as
- 1:10:13men and men. And they're standing on that.
- 1:10:16And I yeah, I think, I think that is not, we didn't really,
- 1:10:20we got some, we got a little bit of distracted kind of men.
- 1:10:22I think this is one of them. But it isn't like a direct.
- 1:10:25It's just like basically, again, I think they're constantly in a
- 1:10:28perpetual state of talking to the naysayers.
- 1:10:32And I'm not just talking about people that just like, like hate
- 1:10:35them just because of where they are in their career, but people
- 1:10:39just who always seem to have something to say.
- 1:10:41I mean, we talk a lot about, we've talked a lot about like,
- 1:10:43you know, with Namjoos specifically of like there was
- 1:10:46this time where it felt like he was always online apologizing
- 1:10:49for something, or at least alluding to like seeing the
- 1:10:52discourse and stuff around things that he's either done,
- 1:10:54whether he did them on purpose or not.
- 1:10:57And I think in this era of their of their lives and of their
- 1:11:00career, like, I don't think they're going to be apologizing
- 1:11:03for much, which again, can be a little problematic, but more or
- 1:11:06less when it comes to their identity, not necessarily like
- 1:11:09things that they, you know, put themselves in line with, but
- 1:11:12their identity. I think they're solid.
- 1:11:14And then in this whole conversation around them chasing
- 1:11:16quote, UN quote, like Western validity, there's nothing wrong
- 1:11:19with wanting the accolades. There's nothing wrong with
- 1:11:21winning the Grammy. There's nothing wrong with any
- 1:11:22of that. That's part of the whole package
- 1:11:25of being an artist. But I don't think that I don't
- 1:11:27think they've lost their identity at all.
- 1:11:30I think they know exactly who they are.
- 1:11:32They know they're different. They know they're technically,
- 1:11:34quote UN quote aliens when they come over here.
- 1:11:36And it also is like a not just even in a way of just like being
- 1:11:39a foreigner, but also just being different, like being like, you
- 1:11:42know, you're not familiar. You're not a familiar entity.
- 1:11:46What you've done in your career has been, can be seen kind of as
- 1:11:49like otherworldly or like alien, not normal is not the norm.
- 1:11:53So there's a lot of double meetings and a lot of these
- 1:11:56songs the more you sit with it. Yeah, kind of say about that
- 1:12:00one. That's true.
- 1:12:02But yes. So let's go ahead and move on to
- 1:12:05our next song, which is titled Fire.
- 1:12:09I know a lot of us thought it was an acronym for something,
- 1:12:12but no, it's actually it is fire for like fire.
- 1:12:17I will be honest, even though the top half is my preferred,
- 1:12:21this one is on the lower side for me.
- 1:12:24I still very much enjoyed it, but this isn't usually the type
- 1:12:28of song I normally listen to or I do and I get into it for a
- 1:12:31while and then I kind of fall off it.
- 1:12:33But I mean, I still enjoy it. So we have the producers that
- 1:12:38are credited for it. Diplo, is it flume?
- 1:12:41And I hear someone say it's pronounced it's Flume.
- 1:12:45OK, Never mind. Flume and Knitty and written by
- 1:12:49Harley Strenton, Gregory Alde pine JPEG mafia, Thomas Wesley
- 1:13:01pence, Curtis Wells, RM, John cook, Richard cook mirrors the
- 1:13:074th and sugar and in the studio knowns.
- 1:13:11You had actually mentioned this is the last minute addition to
- 1:13:13the album and how he and I think and he said he and Hobie had to
- 1:13:18basically fight for this to be added on.
- 1:13:21And then Namjoon actually stated he was the one to reach out and
- 1:13:24invite JPEG to work on the album and how when he went to work
- 1:13:30with him and Flume, I guess Lee Flume and JPEG have this way of
- 1:13:36talking. Namjoon mentioned where like
- 1:13:37they kept saying around him like that's fire or like that's fire,
- 1:13:41bro, or like when they were working on songs.
- 1:13:43So like that actually kind of inspired the song because they
- 1:13:47kept saying to each other that's fire.
- 1:13:51So yeah. And you can see that too,
- 1:13:52because in the lyrics there's like everything lit is fired,
- 1:13:55everything big is fire. So I I guess he got that
- 1:13:57inspiration from hearing them talk.
- 1:13:58Probably so. I mean, JPEG Mafia I think is
- 1:14:03from New York. Yeah, he's from Brooklyn.
- 1:14:07And so, you know, I think again, going back to like different
- 1:14:12dialects and stuff, I don't think I've ever heard and I
- 1:14:15don't think he's lived in New York this whole time.
- 1:14:17So it's very possible that he. I know he's from Baltimore.
- 1:14:20Oh, OK. Well, that makes even more
- 1:14:22sense. Yeah, that's.
- 1:14:23Yeah. Never mind.
- 1:14:25He. You changed your whole thought.
- 1:14:27I didn't. Realize he was in Baltimore,
- 1:14:29he's lived in Brooklyn most of his life, but OK, yeah, them,
- 1:14:32them, them, them B Moores, man, they, they say all kinds of
- 1:14:37crazy shit. So yeah, he is a very decorated
- 1:14:42rapper. I mean, very known for I think
- 1:14:47his relationship with Kendrick, I'm not mistaken.
- 1:14:55So yeah, he has been living in California.
- 1:14:57OK, yeah, I just wanted to make sure I was right.
- 1:14:59Yeah. So yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:00Anyway, I think he was working or he was up under Kendrick's
- 1:15:05label a little while anyway, why is also the one of the also in
- 1:15:12the beginning probably was one of my least favorite.
- 1:15:15It definitely has grown on me. It's one of the songs that I
- 1:15:17think is definitely better performed than it is listened
- 1:15:19to, but I do think it has its place.
- 1:15:22I've seen a lot of people like very much put this on their gym
- 1:15:25playlist. I can see that being a very good
- 1:15:27like cardio heavy song. I don't know this because I
- 1:15:32haven't seen anything because I'm trying to, but I imagine
- 1:15:35that there will be some kind of link between via and fire
- 1:15:39because why wouldn't there be? I mean, like it's literally it's
- 1:15:41right there. If it's not cool.
- 1:15:44I I think some of the bigger things I've seen on this on this
- 1:15:48particular song was like people were and I hate to keep talking
- 1:15:51about the things that people didn't like.
- 1:15:53It's just kind of easy to like talk about them.
- 1:15:55I think the whole like club go crazy, like Britney baby hit me
- 1:15:59one more time. I think people were upset
- 1:16:00because they were kind of using Britney as a like a punching
- 1:16:06bag, which doesn't make any sense because they also
- 1:16:08referenced Michael Jackson. I thought she had AI.
- 1:16:10Thought she had a song called Crazy though.
- 1:16:12That's what they're referencing because I saw people talking
- 1:16:14about that too. Don't you?
- 1:16:15She has a song called Crazy too. She had the song called Crazy
- 1:16:17and a song called Hit Me Baby one more time like.
- 1:16:20Right, so like I've been talking about both songs you.
- 1:16:23Know how the Internet is I? Know, especially when talking
- 1:16:26about Britney. Free Britney always.
- 1:16:28I mean, she is free now, but you know, it's still very much free,
- 1:16:30Britney, from everything. But even that, like they
- 1:16:35referenced Michael Jackson too, and you know, Oh my God, I don't
- 1:16:37know. I think you were around when I
- 1:16:39got on the Internet and saw somebody ask what that reference
- 1:16:42was for. Oh yeah.
- 1:16:44Or the Britney reference. And I was just like, there's no
- 1:16:46way that I'm living in a world where people don't know who
- 1:16:48Britney Spears is. Like there's a saying that go
- 1:16:51you. Are now Shay.
- 1:16:52You are. I'm not that old bitch, but
- 1:16:56there's a saying that's like the most famous people that's ever
- 1:16:59walked the earth is Jesus Christ, Michael Jackson and
- 1:17:01Britney Spears. If we're losing Brittany, that
- 1:17:03means we're close to losing Michael as far as people knowing
- 1:17:06that I can't have that. So I mean I.
- 1:17:08I think Michael's in a different situation because he's always
- 1:17:11going to be known as the King of Pop and we're still always
- 1:17:14referencing him, especially if you, I feel like Michael will be
- 1:17:18one of those people. People always know whether they
- 1:17:21don't know him like as much. They're always goes, you know?
- 1:17:25Somebody's always passing it down.
- 1:17:27Yes, we're getting the Michael Jackson movie did not already
- 1:17:30come out. Did that come out already?
- 1:17:31No. No, it comes out I think 20th.
- 1:17:35Oh, I thought it came out yesterday for some reason it.
- 1:17:37Might have grown and no, listen up.
- 1:17:39I've been you, you know, I've been out and doing things.
- 1:17:42Oh, you're right, the 24th. Oh, is it?
- 1:17:44Yeah, I was close. Yeah.
- 1:17:45I mean, I think it's a good track to get the the concert
- 1:17:50hype. It's definitely a hype track.
- 1:17:52Again, very much just enthralled with the hip hop cultural
- 1:17:57things. You know, everything's lit.
- 1:17:58Everything lit this far definitely gives me a little bit
- 1:18:01of a charli XDXI thought about that a lot when I first heard
- 1:18:06it. Like it's just it for some
- 1:18:07reason it just was like this felt very brat summer for me.
- 1:18:11Just very intense or high intense track.
- 1:18:14It'll be a good it'll be a good if it's put in the latter half
- 1:18:18of the concert, I think it'll be a good to get it, you know, back
- 1:18:20up because again, this I feel like and I don't know, but I
- 1:18:23feel like the concert is going to go in like wave.
- 1:18:25Just with the amount of if we're if they're doing the basically
- 1:18:28the whole album. If they do, which I hope they
- 1:18:30do, then I feel like it's going to go in waves and it'll be good
- 1:18:34to like bring it the the energy back up in very lot lot of
- 1:18:38potential for transition into some older material.
- 1:18:40I think, Oh, the the biggest like I guess it people had is
- 1:18:46like the whole like what was the lyrics?
- 1:18:48Something something with my slime again, going back to like
- 1:18:51it's low hanging fruit like that is something that is so that
- 1:18:55with my slime, like it's just with my friend or with my boy,
- 1:19:00with my whatever. It's just like, it's something
- 1:19:02that's just so ingrained in like current social media.
- 1:19:05Like shit, it almost kind of reaches outside of quote UN,
- 1:19:09quote AAV. It's just every fucking where.
- 1:19:11I was literally listening. I just blur that out.
- 1:19:14I didn't even know that was a lyric.
- 1:19:16Really. Yeah.
- 1:19:17I must always block it out or something.
- 1:19:19Yeah, I found it. It's in the first course, I
- 1:19:22guess. Yeah.
- 1:19:23Where I I can hear JK saying it now, where he says give me that,
- 1:19:26make me sweat something I can't forget.
- 1:19:28Burn it out with my slime, be in a flame, go wild.
- 1:19:31I mean like. Again, I don't think, I don't
- 1:19:34think every song has to be a lyrical fucking masterpiece.
- 1:19:36It's a hype track. Again, like I'm cool with there
- 1:19:39being I don't I don't if I want to listen to some like super
- 1:19:41lyrical shit, I'll go listen to fucking mono or something.
- 1:19:44You know, some right place, one person you know, everything
- 1:19:46doesn't have to be super deep ass, have a double meaning, but
- 1:19:50that's all. That's it's way.
- 1:19:51That's all it needs to be like it's just lit and that's cool.
- 1:19:53Everything's fire. Everything's lit.
- 1:19:55That's fine. I don't think there's anything
- 1:19:58else on this particular track that I wanted to talk about.
- 1:20:00I don't really think there's anything.
- 1:20:02Really. It's pretty self-explanatory.
- 1:20:05It's just one of those ones that's supposed to make you
- 1:20:06dance go crazy again. Just like we keep repeating
- 1:20:10everything. Everything is fire.
- 1:20:12It's a repetitive track. I think a lot of ending in just
- 1:20:14back in just a little more controversy is like, that's just
- 1:20:16all I'm here for. A lot of people, a lot of people
- 1:20:19were upset, I think with the just repetitive repetitiveness
- 1:20:22of it of some of these tracks, which again, valid critique.
- 1:20:26But once again, I stand on like not everything doesn't have to
- 1:20:29be super deep. It doesn't have to be like super
- 1:20:32lyrical or have all these innuendos.
- 1:20:34Everything doesn't have to be that way.
- 1:20:35Sometimes it's OK to break up that monotony of just this
- 1:20:39again, like there are there are albums for that we have out for
- 1:20:42that. I think it's OK for them just to
- 1:20:44let loose and have fun and have a fun track that's not, you
- 1:20:47know, again, like over like crowded with all this like
- 1:20:51genius moments and stuff. But I think it's a it's going to
- 1:20:54be a fun track to, you know, get lit to especially me about 15
- 1:20:57buzz balls in going into hot ass Vegas stadium.
- 1:21:01So yeah, I look forward to and they also just from the Netflix
- 1:21:05special. Well, a lot of fun performing.
- 1:21:07I mean, Damju was running around on half a foot, but you know.
- 1:21:11And we kept telling the man to sit down.
- 1:21:12Listen girl, you know listen. Nobody for shit.
- 1:21:15I know. But I'll be excited to see them,
- 1:21:17you know, essentially get lit. I'm sure it's sure it's a fun an
- 1:21:20experience y'all have been witnessing that I refuse to
- 1:21:23watch. It's fine.
- 1:21:24And that's why when you keep saying stuff, I'm not saying
- 1:21:26anything. I'm.
- 1:21:26I'm not confirming or denying anything you're saying.
- 1:21:29I want this to be a surprise for you.
- 1:21:30I'll. Come back to this and see if I
- 1:21:31was right. Just by the way, so.
- 1:21:33OK, I'll have you come back on the show as well to talk about
- 1:21:37how much you were right. Yeah, just one whole episode of
- 1:21:39me and how right I am. Sounds like my kind of party.
- 1:21:43It does, but yes, let's go ahead and move on to a song that has
- 1:21:46truly grown on me and now I think is becoming like in my top
- 1:21:50three. I liked it from the first
- 1:21:52listen, but this was also another one.
- 1:21:55Again, we keep talking about the controversies.
- 1:21:56I feel like the her first flip, like half of it was just full of
- 1:22:01controversies, But this song, especially until the switch up
- 1:22:06happened and we got the music video, which is 2 point O.
- 1:22:09So it's produced once again by Mike Wilmade.
- 1:22:12And plus, did we say yes? OK, yes.
- 1:22:17So lyric credits by Michael Len Williams, the second Ashton,
- 1:22:21Terence O'Neill Hogan, Atia Boggs, Charles Henshaw, RMJ Hope
- 1:22:29V, John Cook, John Mitchell, Derek Milano, P Dog and Sugar.
- 1:22:35And funny enough, and another member was actually against this
- 1:22:39song. Do you want to guess which
- 1:22:40member it was? Was it rap line or vocal line?
- 1:22:45Vocal line. Jimin.
- 1:22:47Oh my God, you're correct. It was Jimin actually.
- 1:22:50He was opposed to this song and he stated the reason was is
- 1:22:53because it was difficult for the vocal line since it was such a
- 1:22:56hip hop heavy song. And we kind of see that too in
- 1:22:59the documentary I've mentioned when we talked about the
- 1:23:01documentary, they give us a scene actually of like P Dog
- 1:23:04kind of guiding Jimin when recording the song.
- 1:23:07So I guess that was more struggling for him than I
- 1:23:10realized until I watched this and he said that.
- 1:23:14And so Namduna had also compared this to Hooligan because the
- 1:23:18vocal line really kind of only have like 1 melody.
- 1:23:21They're singing like back-to-back.
- 1:23:22But 2.0 was different in the cadence that they had to sing
- 1:23:25for their line and they get the P in the tone right.
- 1:23:29With the way this song is kind of like formatted compared to
- 1:23:32Hooligan. And on the Jimmy Fallon show as
- 1:23:36well, they was Tayon. I didn't watch their full
- 1:23:39interview yet. I will later.
- 1:23:40It's on my list. Listen guys, I'm a busy adult,
- 1:23:43but I believe it was Teyon who talked about how the song also
- 1:23:45represents BTS is new confidence as they return as a group.
- 1:23:50And they've surprisingly, despite the push, push back the
- 1:23:55controversies have been promoting this a lot more than I
- 1:23:58thought they would. Along with their title track
- 1:24:00Swim. And we did get a music video
- 1:24:03that dropped with it with the aesthetics inspired by a really
- 1:24:06popular old Korean movie called Old Boy directed by Park Chan,
- 1:24:12which I find hilarious because it kind of made it kind of what
- 1:24:15I thought huling it was going to be.
- 1:24:16But this has like a comedian, comedian type to it.
- 1:24:19There's a lot of similarities if you go online to the movie, to
- 1:24:22this music video. Like they made the references to
- 1:24:25a team, which I think also made it really tasteful in a way as
- 1:24:29well. And the comparances of the story
- 1:24:31to Old Boy to this song and the music video and I guess if
- 1:24:36anyone wants to watch the movie if you can spoil not spoiler
- 1:24:39trigger warning because it's very graphic.
- 1:24:41There's a lot of Korean movies I don't think people realize like
- 1:24:45actual Korean movies not K dramas can be very graphic.
- 1:24:50I didn't realize too. I watch one of the directors
- 1:24:53movies the Handmaiden, which listen all I must say is just
- 1:24:58lesbians. It's very graphic when it comes
- 1:25:00to lesbians so the get all lesbian sex so.
- 1:25:04We love the lesbians. We do.
- 1:25:07Yeah, super definitely is my favorite video between the
- 1:25:11three. I think it just encompasses
- 1:25:13outside of just the references it did because I've never seen
- 1:25:15the movie, but I figured it was something before like diving in.
- 1:25:19I figured they were rough because it just very it felt
- 1:25:22very much like an old almost like a an old movie about like a
- 1:25:27retired pop. And that's probably not what the
- 1:25:29movies about, but it just it gave me like there's a storyline
- 1:25:32here and it's like this guy, it's almost like taking a little
- 1:25:36bit where it's like some guys like searching for somebody.
- 1:25:38And I would have had all these pugs and you know, go through
- 1:25:41the motions and all this very actiony type stuff.
- 1:25:45So I figured there was like a reference there.
- 1:25:47I just didn't know what it was at the time.
- 1:25:49But it is my favorite video because I feel like with the
- 1:25:53different things that they do in this video between choreography,
- 1:25:57which is super good, but also the brakes in whether being
- 1:26:02again, funny as fuck or stupid in the face, like like I mean,
- 1:26:07it is, I think it encompasses a lot of why I think a lot of
- 1:26:09people like BTS. They are very talented, but
- 1:26:11they're also very comedic and just just a bunch of stupid men
- 1:26:15essentially. You know, that dudes, you know,
- 1:26:17again, they're very serious most of the time.
- 1:26:21The scene of them in the elevator, like I know a lot of
- 1:26:23people like Oh my God, Jimin's back, but like I couldn't help
- 1:26:26but like Garrett Nam June, like trying to fucking put on clothes
- 1:26:30like a fucking Neanderthal. Like I'm just like they're just
- 1:26:33so they're just so they're just such genuine.
- 1:26:36I think they're just such genuine people and funny for no
- 1:26:39reason. But like, I think we saw a
- 1:26:41little bit of not like August D for sure, but I feel like we
- 1:26:45kind of got a little like he's in there still somewhere, you
- 1:26:48know, like he. He came out a little bit.
- 1:26:50I'm not going to lie. He's.
- 1:26:51In there, Yeah, yeah, he's gone. But he's like he's the remnants
- 1:26:54are still there. They can they can come out
- 1:26:56anytime we don't want them to. Because again, that wasn't a
- 1:26:59very angry time in his life. But I think the essence of
- 1:27:03August, he will always be with Yungi.
- 1:27:05And sometimes he pops out a little bit just depending on
- 1:27:07what he does. And then this video, it
- 1:27:08definitely was giving a little bit of D-Day for me, just the
- 1:27:13vibe and the look. And that's another thing that
- 1:27:14reminded me of us like the Hagam music video a little with just
- 1:27:18like this. There's an obvious like cat and
- 1:27:20mouse theme with that one, and this one felt very similar to
- 1:27:24that. I thought about that for a
- 1:27:25minute. Again, the choreography is
- 1:27:27really good. Am I wrong?
- 1:27:28Were they in the high building going up?
- 1:27:31Was that? But was that the high building
- 1:27:32they were in? I.
- 1:27:33Don't know if they use the high building as a set, but that set
- 1:27:36they're in also is a like reference to this a certain
- 1:27:39scene and old boy too. Yeah, but I don't know if
- 1:27:42they're they filmed it in the high building.
- 1:27:44I wouldn't be shocked it. Looked a lot like the, you know
- 1:27:46how they did, they'll do the challenges and stuff.
- 1:27:49When, when yeah, it looked a little bit like the top 4 or
- 1:27:52whatever. I guess in there I was just like
- 1:27:54I got the high building. Maybe they probably decorated it
- 1:27:56to look like the office scene. That's an old boy that I've been
- 1:27:59seeing clips of so I don't know where they got the water from
- 1:28:03though. How they made that?
- 1:28:05But no, this is my favorite music video for sure.
- 1:28:08I think that this song is another one of those songs
- 1:28:11that's better performed. I think it gives the right
- 1:28:14amount of energy, but it doesn't feel as intense as fire does.
- 1:28:18Like fire makes you want to like go run, even though I don't.
- 1:28:22But it just makes you it makes you feel like you need to go,
- 1:28:24like get the energy out. I think 2 point O is a little
- 1:28:27mosh pit. Yeah, very mosh pit.
- 1:28:28Like I think 2 point O is very it's 2, but against repetitive
- 1:28:34enough to be kind of ear catchy ear worming.
- 1:28:38I've absolutely changed the lyrics from in the the hook
- 1:28:42where it's like we on that brand new.
- 1:28:45Like bitch, I'm brand new. I say that I don't give a fuck
- 1:28:47what they say. Like that's just how I say it.
- 1:28:51I think utilizing again, what I love about this album in
- 1:28:55general. I meant to talk about this a
- 1:28:56little earlier was just the usage of like it feels like
- 1:29:00everybody got like equal parts. I don't feel like anybody was
- 1:29:03left behind, even though in the document we see Jen came in kind
- 1:29:06of later after Get on Be on Tour and that whole debacle.
- 1:29:11But it doesn't feel it feels like everybody was really
- 1:29:13balanced and used well in this album.
- 1:29:17And this is a good example because you have like you have
- 1:29:21like Jimin and JK like balance bouncing off one another and
- 1:29:24then they swap at the end with JK and OK, and it's same with
- 1:29:27Jen and Jimin and, and just, it's just very well done.
- 1:29:30And those are little things that I noticed when it comes to the
- 1:29:34engineering part of it, where then people who do the
- 1:29:36placements and stuff like it's, it's very well crafted.
- 1:29:39And so 2 point O was wasn't an automatic favorite, but it has
- 1:29:43grown on me for sure. I find myself listening to it a
- 1:29:46lot. Yeah, same.
- 1:29:48And then like, I don't know, because you're also a big
- 1:29:50Beyoncé fan, maybe they got this from Beyoncé and we'll talk
- 1:29:53about this in later half. I feel like they utilize like
- 1:29:57the they utilize the vocal line doing harmonies a lot more.
- 1:30:02Yes, yeah. So that's where I feel like it
- 1:30:04also feels like everyone got equal parts instead of just like
- 1:30:07having vocal line do one verse and then the other.
- 1:30:10We have hidden back vocals like you.
- 1:30:12You can clearly hear them harmonizing a lot more and a lot
- 1:30:15of these songs. Very well thought out and they
- 1:30:18were all used I think to the best of their ability.
- 1:30:21I love that Jimin is in his deeper vocal range.
- 1:30:24I know a lot of people really, really wanted him to get them
- 1:30:27high, like and not for nothing, love Jim to death, but sometimes
- 1:30:30I think it's a struggle. It's a struggle for anybody who
- 1:30:33is got a a wider range. Those notes are not very
- 1:30:37sustainable. And yes, you can always do
- 1:30:39things to help sustain those things, but it can wear on your
- 1:30:43vocals. It can and so I love it.
- 1:30:46I love when he does like lower no, and he's like in that again,
- 1:30:50I could just it just seems very like the this song and this one
- 1:30:54and aliens, ironically, both being made by or produced
- 1:30:58primarily by Mike Will made it very swaggy song, very chill,
- 1:31:04but just like impressionable. Like even in the beginning
- 1:31:07Yugi's verse, it was like, I hear it.
- 1:31:12I just, I'm bad with lyrics. It's essentially saying do.
- 1:31:16You want to read them to you. Yeah, read the read the first
- 1:31:19Yungi's Yungi's first verse. OK, I'm not reading it.
- 1:31:22Including. I'm not reading the translation.
- 1:31:24Yes, so sure quote like Bong Tong.
- 1:31:27It's easy to say as if we're a vaulting box.
- 1:31:30They try to jump over us all the time.
- 1:31:32It's funny, but not really. So they don't stand a chance
- 1:31:35against the 10 years we've built.
- 1:31:37Stop Ride like the chorus. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:42Sorry. This is as your blog.
- 1:31:44Knock, knock, knock, knock. Yeah, as a little fun fall.
- 1:31:49You're not going to be 1 and stand next to me during the
- 1:31:51concert, I just say. Well, I'm not going to be.
- 1:31:54Yeah, good luck to whoever standing this amount.
- 1:31:57I think just that in general, like there's always this
- 1:31:59conversation around who's the next BTS.
- 1:32:01And even if it's not something that like bothers BTS, that
- 1:32:06sentiment of just like say the first part again because I want
- 1:32:10to make sure I'm getting correct, this is the first line.
- 1:32:12Sure, like Bong Tong, it's easy to say yeah.
- 1:32:15Like, yeah, it's easy to say that you can create another one
- 1:32:18of us, but Aunt, there won't be another one of us.
- 1:32:21It won't have even if even if you curate group and fashion and
- 1:32:25actress, they don't have our story.
- 1:32:26They don't have our come up. They don't have our longevity.
- 1:32:28They don't have the the the core audience that's been built.
- 1:32:31There's a lot of things that go into BTS that's not just, oh,
- 1:32:34they were just, you know, this group that just happened upon
- 1:32:38this fame and acquired there. There was there's a real like
- 1:32:41connection. One of the reasons why I really
- 1:32:43love BTS is there's a real connection between their come up
- 1:32:47story and to where we are now, how Army plays a part of that
- 1:32:51and how their own stories play a part of that.
- 1:32:54So people can attempt and there's nothing wrong with I
- 1:32:58guess attempting to try to duplicate that.
- 1:33:00But there's something very like authentic about how they came up
- 1:33:05and the things that they went through, the things that they've
- 1:33:07talked about, the things that we've seen and some of the show
- 1:33:10we haven't. Even if you create a group and
- 1:33:13you fabricate a group off of the likeness of BTS, it can't be
- 1:33:17BTS. There's just they don't have
- 1:33:18that same grit. And I think that kind of like
- 1:33:22the Neil Mccoffin with that conversation.
- 1:33:23And I'm glad that you, you said something because it is been
- 1:33:26like, it's, it's always something.
- 1:33:28It's, there's been so many articles written about like not
- 1:33:31any group specifically, but just the idea of like creating the
- 1:33:34next BTS or having another moment.
- 1:33:36Like that doesn't mean that other groups cannot do great
- 1:33:40things that they do. I just don't think we're going
- 1:33:43to have another situation. We have the exact same formula
- 1:33:46with the BTS. I don't.
- 1:33:48And I don't think anybody really really honestly wants that, if
- 1:33:50you really think about it. I'm probably not, but even in
- 1:33:53the Precors too, I mean, they say to themselves before I
- 1:33:56finished it, they said they're coming back for what's there.
- 1:33:59So yeah, I. Mean and that's like I said, the
- 1:34:01song is very self-explanatory. I mean, there's no reason to
- 1:34:04reduce too much deep diving because again, it's just like
- 1:34:07they left people had their fun coming back from what stairs?
- 1:34:10But yet they're on something brand new.
- 1:34:13You know what I mean? Like the other Oh, this was the
- 1:34:15one that there's Oh my God. OK.
- 1:34:18I was just about to ask you before we move on.
- 1:34:20Did you want to bring up your biggest problem?
- 1:34:22Oh my God, I was like, I was going through the song and I was
- 1:34:25like. I was going to bring it up if
- 1:34:28you didn't. Yeah, OK, so one of my biggest
- 1:34:30pet peeves, those of you, if you're still here listening,
- 1:34:32first of all, you're the real one.
- 1:34:34I'm sure someone's going to edit this very nicely.
- 1:34:37As much as you can. Yeah.
- 1:34:39One thing I absolutely want be besides the things that I
- 1:34:43requested in the first half of this hive, you need to hire
- 1:34:46someone that can go through these lyrics and make sure we
- 1:34:49put the right lyrics for hit Spotify or hit Sprint because
- 1:34:54this is now the second fucking time we've had an instance where
- 1:34:57there has been something that has been misinterpreted.
- 1:35:02The first instance was JK's 7, where Lotto is her verse and in
- 1:35:09the printed material and on Spotify and every other, you
- 1:35:13know, whatever other music source you listen to, the lyrics
- 1:35:17read tightly, take control, tightly take his soul.
- 1:35:22Lotto's not saying that Lotto was saying type 2 as an I'm the
- 1:35:25type 2, take control, Type 2, take his soul.
- 1:35:29It's just the way she says it because she's not from Atlanta,
- 1:35:33but she's hailed from Atlanta for long enough to be called,
- 1:35:35you know, from Atlanta. It's her accent.
- 1:35:39And yet again, that's one example.
- 1:35:42So now we have Namju's verse, which again this has become a
- 1:35:46big thing now, but we're sad literally arguing people in
- 1:35:49comment sections about what Namju says when he's like.
- 1:35:53Pop pop, pop pop pop pop pop baby.
- 1:35:56Get too lit raw raw raw raw. Hit him up like pop hit him with
- 1:36:01the truth. Like wrong.
- 1:36:02Pause. OK.
- 1:36:04So so it's not hit him up like pop because it makes no fucking
- 1:36:08sense, but it's hit him up like pop as in Tupac, as in the the
- 1:36:12rapper, because he has a song called Hit Him up.
- 1:36:15That's what it makes sense. It's word play.
- 1:36:17And then the second part of that is hit him with the truth like
- 1:36:20Rob, that's referencing raw digger.
- 1:36:22So if we have one, that's a clear because again, but again,
- 1:36:26in the printed material, it says hit him up like pop as in POP.
- 1:36:30Now I got to argue with fucking people online about what he
- 1:36:34meant. And because they are taking what
- 1:36:37you put in the print as Bible and that's not what it is.
- 1:36:41So hive in 2026 and beyond, Please hire someone to find
- 1:36:45tooth comb these lyrics if you cannot just and you have the
- 1:36:48person there like literally he could.
- 1:36:50I'd really honestly Nam June, please come out and correct
- 1:36:53people so I don't so I can stop arguing people in the comment
- 1:36:56section of people trying to tell me that you said hit him up like
- 1:36:59pop, which makes no fucking sense.
- 1:37:01But POC would make sense because the mixtape he pretends doesn't
- 1:37:05exist. Or maybe he no he pretends
- 1:37:08doesn't exist with the song joke.
- 1:37:10He's mentioned Tupac before. Exactly.
- 1:37:13Again, people don't listen. That's how that's how I know
- 1:37:15people don't really give a fuck about.
- 1:37:17They all work like that. As far as like trying to be like
- 1:37:20I miss Obts, you don't because you didn't listen to it.
- 1:37:22You would have known the reference if you listen to it.
- 1:37:25Yeah, but I was still going to because I apparently other
- 1:37:28people were pointing out the time to pay your debt.
- 1:37:30Fear me or fear me not to Let it be, let it be, let it bleed, hit
- 1:37:34a lick and a split. Apparently those other
- 1:37:36references to other songs. I heard someone point out The
- 1:37:40Beatles but I don't remember for which part.
- 1:37:42Let it be is from The Beatles. Let it be, Let it bleed.
- 1:37:46I think is Rolling Stone. OK.
- 1:37:48So 2 references to you know again some quote UN quote
- 1:37:52greats. And they've been compared to The
- 1:37:54Beatles before, so a lot. And of course, like Rolling
- 1:37:58Stones, it again, they're very voted in their own right and
- 1:38:05that's it. And that's all.
- 1:38:05Yeah, that's my complaint. And I need them to fix that as
- 1:38:09that's one of the reasons why I don't want to buy the album
- 1:38:10because it's wrong, fucking wrong.
- 1:38:12And it bothers me. And I'm and I'm autistic and it
- 1:38:14makes me like literally want to break out.
- 1:38:17Like it just dies. Like it's well, it's just like,
- 1:38:19because again, I got to argue with people who don't know shit.
- 1:38:22And clearly you're not smart enough to just go look this shit
- 1:38:24up. And I had to literally explain
- 1:38:26to this person on the Internet, which I don't even know why I
- 1:38:29bothered, but like, I'm talking to literally nobody most of the
- 1:38:32time of that. This is not the first time that
- 1:38:34Hive has made the mistake of fucking up lyrics in the written
- 1:38:38part of it. But you know, all right, Well, I
- 1:38:42guess that would be a good point to segue into the bell.
- 1:38:47Lovely Bell where it gave us the cleanse and the reset that we
- 1:38:52really needed for the rest of the album.
- 1:38:56So apparently this bell is the recording of the sacred bell of
- 1:39:00Great King Song Dog, or also known as the God Korean.
- 1:39:06It's so late, Emily. Emily Bell.
- 1:39:09I just blanked out for a minute there.
- 1:39:11Emily Bell and it's one of Korea's most iconic bronze
- 1:39:16bells, cast in 771 during the unified Sheila period.
- 1:39:22It is a minute and 37 seconds to match the currency of the bells
- 1:39:27Renaissance. When it struck, I thought I also
- 1:39:29heard it was to match how long it took the king to walk.
- 1:39:33But more articles I found stated that's how long it took for the
- 1:39:38bell to like stop ringing. So it's supposed to emulate
- 1:39:42that. And again, the Tik Toker that I
- 1:39:45talked about earlier, Ginu Park, he talked about how the bell is
- 1:39:49the 29th item of the national treasures designed by the Korean
- 1:39:53government, which is why they named it #29.
- 1:39:57He mentioned how it's also has this really dark myth to it.
- 1:40:02He says don't believe it obviously, but there was a myth
- 1:40:05for this bell of a baby being inside the bell.
- 1:40:10So basically the story goes at the Buddhist monks and Sheila
- 1:40:15collected donations to cast this great bell.
- 1:40:18A poor 1 poor widow could only offer her baby and the monks at
- 1:40:22first, you know, declined. But when the bell could not
- 1:40:26produce a proper sound, it was believed that not all the
- 1:40:29offerings were accepted, prompting the monks to go back,
- 1:40:33collect the child from the widow and sacrifice the baby into the
- 1:40:36molten metal. And the bell was completed and
- 1:40:38said to bring with the haunting and Malay sound like a child's
- 1:40:42cry. So I guess they also compared
- 1:40:44the sound, making it sound like a child's wailing.
- 1:40:47And of course, obviously don't believe it because it's not
- 1:40:50true, especially in a Buddhist, you know, country.
- 1:40:54But. And he talks about the design
- 1:40:56and all that too, which I thought was interesting.
- 1:40:58But I guess the last time the bell was officially rung,
- 1:41:01because they're trying not to really ring it anymore to
- 1:41:03preserve it since it's so old, was back in September of 25,
- 1:41:07which was actually the first time they rung it in 22 years.
- 1:41:11And I also think around that time they rung it due to BTS
- 1:41:16using this in the album. Bong PD had ended up going
- 1:41:20there. I think Nanjing was supposed to
- 1:41:21go as well, but he couldn't because of conflict of like
- 1:41:25schedules. They rung the bell and that's
- 1:41:28where they got the recording of it.
- 1:41:30But yeah. Interesting.
- 1:41:32I mean, I feel like there's nothing to really digest into
- 1:41:35this one because it's I mean, I think it's I think it's iconic
- 1:41:38for them to take something that's such a like a like a
- 1:41:44how's the word like archaic? That sounds wrong.
- 1:41:48No, that's not right. I think it's very feels very
- 1:41:52much like a nom June thing for them to like preserve this piece
- 1:42:00of history and like they can preserve it forever in the form
- 1:42:04of a song that's not really a song.
- 1:42:07It's just the ringing a bell or the bell.
- 1:42:10I think I've been trying to find and I can't because there's no
- 1:42:14other than like me like maybe taking my phone and putting it
- 1:42:18up against to see what it lands on as far as like the hurt, see
- 1:42:22if it lines up with any. Because I used to be into like
- 1:42:25sound bow or like those singing bowls when I was like in my 20s.
- 1:42:28And there are certain sounds and certain wavelengths that trigger
- 1:42:32certain responses and your chakras basically.
- 1:42:35And you know where they were, they sick.
- 1:42:37And I was curious to see if there was like any connection
- 1:42:40with that. I would have not been able to
- 1:42:42find anything on that. So Tom June, if you're
- 1:42:44listening, I'd like to know if you know what the Hertz is for
- 1:42:47the sound so I can know if it's. But I think it's ironic, you
- 1:42:50know too, that a lot of people were like waiting for there to
- 1:42:54be something and it just ended up going into swim.
- 1:42:56So it was almost like we were forced into some type of
- 1:42:59meditation in a way as a halfway point.
- 1:43:02But I think that's, you know, again, I don't I think for them
- 1:43:07to include this. I think it also is kind of this
- 1:43:10not there like, longevity as well, in a way.
- 1:43:14I know it sounds like you're getting all this from a bell.
- 1:43:17Yeah. Because this is a piece of
- 1:43:18history that, again, is now preserved forever in the form of
- 1:43:22their album. And this album, I would say, is
- 1:43:25now like in line with like, again, a piece of their of their
- 1:43:28culture, not only would like idol and the meaning behind all
- 1:43:31that, but just all the other. And again, going back to the
- 1:43:34conversation and then not being Korean enough and yet
- 1:43:36incorporating all of these things that are very much
- 1:43:38significant to their culture. It's just like, again, you just
- 1:43:41you want the the Korean in them to be packaged a certain way.
- 1:43:44You want it to look like a menstrual show.
- 1:43:46And that's, you know, again, we talked about that earlier, but
- 1:43:49I'm not going to dive back into that.
- 1:43:50But I think again, when you talked a little bit about the
- 1:43:54other podcasts that won't be named because no free promo here
- 1:43:57about how what modern Korean looks like and versus like the
- 1:44:01older Korea. I think in my mind, I feel like
- 1:44:06there's probably more of a blend than there is anything else.
- 1:44:08I mean, obviously society grows as in all in every country, as
- 1:44:12society grows, things change and you know, trends and just our
- 1:44:17ways of life will change and adapt.
- 1:44:19So I think that there's but there's there's all when I look
- 1:44:23at like anybody talk about South Korea or anybody that's visited
- 1:44:26South Korea and just this this constant reminder of their
- 1:44:30history. There's a constant like ode and
- 1:44:33a nod to like things that are very culturally significant,
- 1:44:36whether it's the food or the dress or just the education of
- 1:44:40certain things that they talk about or they teach over there.
- 1:44:45I think Korea is very rich in their culture for the most part.
- 1:44:50So it makes sense in my mind for seven Korean men who are very
- 1:44:53much proud to be Korean, to have piece of history kind of forever
- 1:44:59encapsulated in their project. It's kind of genius, if you
- 1:45:01think, if you ask me, I know like, it's just the bell, sure,
- 1:45:04but it's probably a lot deeper than that.
- 1:45:06I think for those of us who, you know, look at these things in a.
- 1:45:10Deeper level, I could see it. So, yeah.
- 1:45:16But yes, I guess you had a lot more to say about the bell than
- 1:45:19you thought.
