- 0:00[rock music] Down and dirty.
- 0:18Hey, everybody. Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show number 150. Woo-hoo! The sesquicentennial. Ses- ses- you, you got it this week. [laughs] I had to say it very deliberately- [laughs] Nice... and slowly,
- 0:35and without liquid, uh- Liquid courage Well, or- No, liquid, liquid intelligence [laughs] Or lack thereof. Exactly.
- 0:43I have no doubt that by the end of this show people will be like, "Don't you think you should've prepared for that show a little better?" Mm. Okay. [laughs] You say it about the end of just about every show? Maybe.
- 0:55I'm not sure. [laughs] Oh, yeah. We missed the snow. We missed the snow event, unfortunately. Big time. Yeah. Apparently, it's hitting down south of us there a little bit.
- 1:08Some races that are, you know, planned for down central Illinois or Iowa or any of those kinda just south of us places, they're probably gonna get a pretty good snow. Bet you they are.
- 1:19Check your local conditions, folks, and see how it's gonna be in your neighborhood. Way down yonder, but not down far. By the Chattahoochee. [laughs] Whoa. [laughs] What? Just a- Wow, you went like Alan Jackson.
- 1:31[laughs] Way down yonder, you know. But not down far, Boog. Yeah. Yep, definitely it w- I didn't quite hit 50 yesterday, but it was pretty dang close. It was nudging. It won. And then now it's not anymore again.
- 1:45Yeah, now it's 18. [laughs] I just, when it gets to be, like today, I didn't think it was as cold as part of yesterday when it started cooling off. I'm like, "It's pretty, pretty cool out here. What's this all about?"
- 1:58I enjoyed the ride. Yeah. You took your, uh, Northpaw home. I did. Was that yesterday? Yeah. Or a couple days ago? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] A couple days ago. That was on Tuesday. Yeah. How do you like those tires?
- 2:10I like those tires. Tony's running those Vee Tire. Don't wanna- Don't, don't... totally bash on tires, but- God... when you're on the s- ice and snow- I'm gonna bash on these tires...
- 2:19they have, they have traction, but on, on the, on the... What do they call it in a rally when you... Or in an enduro, the, the tran- the transit sections or- Yeah... wherever you're not actually racing, so. It's bad.
- 2:30Yeah. I told you. I told... It was like at least two gears different. It... easily. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. What do you got? Do you got something dinging over there? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:40Is that your terabyte SD card- I don't even know... or your micro SD card? That thing's, that's insane. A terabyte. A terabyte. What are you gonna put on there? A whole lot of porn. [laughs] Yeah.
- 2:49Holy [laughs] Maybe a porn server. Yeah. Hey. Like, six of those you'll just carry around your bike as a RAID. Those late-'80s- What can you run off that thing?... early-'90s, the golden age. Right. Yeah.
- 2:58[laughs] Um, you could run, in the class 10 ones, I think you could actually run an OS off of them. Oh, that would be pretty interesting. Yeah. Well, s- things are getting smaller. Yeah, that's true.
- 3:10It's like computers and stuff. Stuff. Santiam Slip A High Rules. I, I did watch a horrible four minute and 30 second video on a $420 electric bike speaking of smaller, and... And it wasn't everything you were hoping for?
- 3:28No, actually it was that Elec- Chic guy that gets paid to do these supposedly, but he, uh, he, he... It... For a... If you lived in a city
- 3:37and you had, like, a commute that was just a couple of miles, for 420 bucks, it's totally worth it. 420. It had a throttle and three pedal assists. He's like, you, you'll... Yeah, it's, it was-
- 3:50You know what else you could get for 429, $420.69? A clunker. A State Bicycles clunker. Well, it wouldn't be electric, but- Right... you're not going that far or that fast anyway. But our, our friend's electric.
- 4:01Right, exactly. Looky, looky. Speaking of electric bikes, the, uh, that- [singing]... the snowstorm and other, uh, related delays- [singing]...
- 4:08plus current health conditions in our fair country, still got no bikes to put no motors on. We got lots of motors down there, though. Mm. They sh- they were supposed to be here today, Wednesday, not Friday.
- 4:21They should've been here yesterday now if it's Friday. [laughs] Yeah. Well, my door didn't get delivered, Greg. Oh, no door. They called and said- No door... they called and said, "The delivery's guy is running late."
- 4:33I'm like, "Okay, that's fine." Then I get an email from Lowes saying, "Delivery is now tomorrow, Thursday." Well, yesterday, Thursday. Then I'm figuring, "Okay, screw it, I'll go get my... Uh, I need a,
- 4:48a notary done, so I'm gonna just go to UPS and have that done." Get upstairs, delivery company calls, says, "Hey, he's running late, but he, he, we still have plans on delivering the door." I'm like,
- 5:01"Get your head out of your ass. Call Lowes." She's like, "All right, I'll call Lowes and call you right back." Still hasn't called me back. Get your head out of your ass. Still ain't got no door. Yeah.
- 5:10Or maybe I will by the time we hear this. You never know- Right... with these delivery guys.
- 5:14It's a very expensive door, and I need it I still don't have a printer that I ordered from the university's IT department in August. [laughs] That sounds bad. Tony. Sounds all right.
- 5:25[laughs] Got, got your supply chain issues there. I think they're calling it supply chain issues. Mm. We got that in the bike industry, too, so- Ah, yeah... I dunno. Kind of affected us, too.
- 5:33I think it was a little of both. I think it was a little like, "Uh, yeah, it's on back order, so we're not gonna put the order in." Yep. Yeah. "We'll get back to it-" When it's- "...
- 5:41but when you remind us that we were-" Yeah... supposed to do it," which I just had to do recently. [laughs] It's like, "How's, uh, how's it going on that, uh, printer order?" Yeah, yeah.
- 5:49I'm like, "Uh, what are you talking ab- uh... Oh, from August? Oh, yeah, like six months ago. Okay." Yeah. "Um, mm, yeah, uh, let me look into that and get right back to you." Yeah. Case of deflections. Yeah.
- 6:0220 years in service. Yeah. That's how you do it. [makes whipping sound] That's right. True, true.... judo So we learned the n- the name of our listener. Yeah. His name is Steve. Steve. Steve. Yeah, apparently.
- 6:15Has he- Bastard... sent me... No, [laughs] just the, our listener. Oh. He's a random Steve from somewhere. Yeah, that's like the, I still have my, my two- Hey, Steve... uh, stuffed animals that are in my den.
- 6:29Steve and Steve? Steve and Steve? Steve and Blue Bear. Oh, nice. One's a blue bear and one is- Blue Bear... a actual teddy bear named Steve. Ah. That's nice. So, Steve, Steve- Steve's calling in from my den. Yeah.
- 6:38[laughs] Yeah, yeah, he is. Oh, he, he, he sent me an email and actually listened to the show and was asking about the cranks we had in stock, so we made a deal on a couple cranks to upgrade his bike and his wife's bike.
- 6:50Fantastic. Thanks, Steve. Yeah, right. Thank you, Steve. Appreciate you listening to the show and spending money at Everyday Cycles. Yeah. We do have a lot of cranks left.
- 6:58I, I'm trying to determine what we actually have completes, 'cause there's, like, tons of arms, some bottom brackets, some chain rings and, but do they all make a complete set? I'm- Right... not 100% sure.
- 7:10Definitely FSA Afterburner is definitely, 'cause I just ordered a couple more bottom brackets for the Race Face stuff that happened to be in stock for a brief period of time. Mm-hmm. So we got some stuff. We got stuff.
- 7:21Let me know. Info@everydaycycles.com. All right. Give us a call. And then- No big deal... not only did Steve buy some stuff, but he also provided some content for the show. Come on. Unbelievably. Hey.
- 7:33I think we may have looked at this thing a while back. It's a, it's a, uh, it's a kind of a, it's not really a groomer, but it certainly could be used as a groomer.
- 7:42It's the deal where you sit in the tub behind this big track in front of you. It's called an MTT 136. And you- This does sound familiar...
- 7:51you sit down in the tub, and then you can control it, and it can go all over the place. I watched the video before the show. Check out that video. That thing is cool.
- 7:58I don't know how much it costs, but it's made in Canada, eh? Eh. Eh. And it, it, it seriously looked like you could go... It pushes logs out of the way. Oh. It kinda mows trees down.
- 8:09I would, I would think if it's made in Canada, it can go through snow. Well, it's, it's like the size of maybe a snowmobile without the fairing and the handlebars on it. It's, you know, not small, but- So it's squat...
- 8:19I think it has a ton of batteries for weight. Okay. And then you sit in what looks like, seriously, a bathtub that's being dragged behind it. Oh? And we'll, we'll watch the video after the show, but definitely check it.
- 8:30Uh-huh. Folks, check that thing out. I don't know if it's 17 grand or more, 'cause that- Right... snowmobile we looked at last week was 17. Whoa. [laughs] I looked at that, too. Yeah. That's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 8:41But it's 17 grand. [laughs] And we don't have any appreciable snow to use it on here- Oh, yeah... in the fair city of Milwaukee. You could build one hell of an electric motorcycle for that.
- 8:49I'm feeling, I'm feeling [laughs] like we, we raced right to the- [bell ringing] Right to the top... top of the hill, mostly because I see my beer sitting there not- Yep... uh- E-assist all the way up there... open.
- 8:59[laughs] E-assist. Oh, yeah, we kinda, we did E-assist the show, right? Push the button. [laughs] Show number 150, folks, you get what you pay for. Which, by the way, I- Sesquicentennial.
- 9:09[laughs] [laughs] I'm just so proud of myself, too. Ses- ses- centennial. [laughs] So, uh, JK brought, brought the show beer today. Yeah. It is City Lights Ski Bum. Yeah, man. I was quite impressed with their write-up.
- 9:24Yeah, there was a lot of... I was like, "Whoa, what the?" I- Oh, you did a copy and paste when I looked at it. [laughs] Yeah. I'm like, "Shit." It's a, it's a West Coast IPA meets hazy IPA. Yeah.
- 9:34Well, whatever, whatever. Yes. My g- the thing I like the most about it is it has an activity pairing section. [laughs] Nice. [laughs] Which oddly enough includes all snow stuff ski bum-wise. Excellent. Oh, yeah.
- 9:46A full- We ought to do an addendum for- Yeah, actually spell that properly. I spelled the- P- Pliss? Yeah, Pliss. Like s- Pliss bikes...
- 9:54really anything involved being a bum and/or snow, which obviously is a- By definition... bike sort of an idea. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. When I, uh, when I first- That's our filing cabinet drawer...
- 10:04went to City Lights, I had this, I felt it was gonna be this r- really pretentious suburb, you know, brewery where people are gonna come from the suburbs and leave.
- 10:15And I was s- really pleasantly surprised that that ended up not being the case. [laughs] We did the, uh, the Alley Cat, the, um, pussycat race there one year. Mm. And I was, I was a checkpoint there. They were fantastic.
- 10:29It's definitely been on the Fat Tire tour a couple- Yeah, a couple times... of times. Yeah. I think it's just because they have such a big space. Mm-hmm. These bigger rides now, you can't just go to George's- Yeah...
- 10:38even though George has dearly departed at this point. Oh, well, that's not a bad beer. Yeah. No. Oh, no. It's kinda- No, no... it's kinda fruity. Yeah. There's the notes.
- 10:48Well, it's a little fruity, but it's- It, man, it's pretty good... it's not very bitter. It's, uh- Yeah... oh, it's got a IBU of 50. 50. And, uh- 6.4... 6.4 on the ABV scale. Yeah.
- 10:58That could get you as slightly dangerous, but not terribly. Not after two of 'em, since we- During-... we don't have a whole cooler full today... during, uh, Oktoberfest, they used to have a fantastic, uh,
- 11:08foot-long hot dog deal. You know, Oktoberfest, of course. At City Lights? Yeah. [laughs] Oh, gotcha. [laughs] It was really like- Did they have the ridiculously large $18 pretzels too?
- 11:18I think they did actually, of course. Man, there is something about Milwaukee and that fucking pretzel. I have yet- And it's, and it's- I, I, I-... an awful lot of money for a piece of bread, if you ask me...
- 11:26I, man, don't fill up on bread. I mean, that's like my mantra about, like, eating out anywhere. Homer Simpson taught me that. Yeah, of course. So you're f- Or actually Marge coaching Homer.
- 11:36You don't wanna eat your bread, so you can drink your bread instead. Mm-hmm. Exactly. Mm-hmm. Exactly. And appetizers, no thank you. Mm-mm. I don't wanna get... I don't want food before my food.
- 11:46I don't wanna get full before I eat, you know, that kinda, I don't know. Salad? Hell no. Barely that sometimes. Oh, man.
- 11:53I was making my- As long as it's, like, you know, just a hair- Since we're talking about food, you gotta go to Tess and start with the rocket salad. It's a great date place. Rocket. Rocket. It's, uh, food is exquisite.
- 12:03To where? Tess, over on just off of- Too many new restaurants reopening- It's been there forever, dude... in this spot over on the pl- whatever. It's our one- [laughs] It's been there forever...
- 12:10that's our one down the block from Champions. Yeah. All right. Across the street from what was Red Dot. Yeah. Is now the- Original The original Too much effort [laughs] The original- It's, it's rail worth it.
- 12:20It's- The, the, the fif- the fifth, the fifth, uh, you know, restaurant- Yeah... to occupy the space is called- It-... The Original. Yeah, figures It's just ha ha ha. I get it.
- 12:29I was on my way here and, uh, saw my first bus on light rail train accident. You saw that? It was on the news. Yeah, was it not a, a- What, the Hop? Wasn't it- They flipped the Hop? Yeah, someone hit the Hop.
- 12:40Well, it, yeah, ran into the Hop. It was a school sm- like a short bus. Short bus, yep. Probably explains the whole situation, but- Yeah...
- 12:48yeah, I don't know I saw on the news they were like, "We still don't know which driver's at fault." I'm like, "Well, one was on a track." And it got hit in the back, like the back of the centipede. [laughs] Yeah. Right?
- 12:58I think we know who- And just, and, like glancing-... was at fault... off the corner too. Yeah. What, what, what time was this? I'm very- Like 5:00-ish- Oh, okay...
- 13:05or something That was, we made, like the 5:00 news No, I had made my way down to The Door today for Hot Dog Day. Nice. Barbecoa. Barbecoa dog. Don't even know what Barbecoa is. Um, like Mexican
- 13:18shredded long, slowly cooked beef with awesome, mm, tasty, yes, very good stuff. It is delicious. With a mandarin orange salsa and Chipotle dust on top of it. It was very delicious. But somebody that was there was
- 13:37gonna take the Hop from somewhere down there up to Y Not Too. Oh. [laughs] I was like, "Well, there's a noble [laughs] use for the Hop" It's good use for the Hop. Yeah, exactly.
- 13:47It i- I, I use it- That's why I was curious. I was like, "Oh, shit." Well, somebody ha- they have like a r- a real time tracker for the Hop. Oh yeah, it's perfect. I use it all the time. I don't ever.
- 13:57When I was- I've never been on the damn thing. [laughs] When I was riding- [laughs] When I would ride to, um- It's this magical unicorn that just goes through downtown...
- 14:03when I'd work at the Digital Bridge, and I'd get done, and it would be like really cold or really crappy, I could ride it to Gold Pick 'n Save. Yeah, yeah. Right. Then it's literally like right down the hill- Oh, shit...
- 14:15over to the Marsupial Bridge, up the hill, and I'm home. Yeah. Yeah. Like, it's awesome. Yeah, it's like a downtown skipper, basically. Yep, and it warms your bike up, it warms your, your ha- your bike up.
- 14:25It's- No, no, no, that's awesome... it's totally worth it, and it's free. I mean, just like, why not take it? We should have light rail all the way to Madison. Come on. Right. Right? Yeah, now it's in, where is it?
- 14:32Hungary? The thing that was supposed to be in Wisconsin. Is that where it ended, or no? It was like Hungary or Budapest or- It's, it's, maybe it's Budapest... yeah... something like that. Yeah, that's good.
- 14:44[laughs] Well, it was supposed to be built in Milwaukee too- Right. Which I don't think they completed all of them here Not even close Yeah. Yeah, there's a lot of, um, Wisconsin getting hosed deals.
- 14:55The big- Hosed deals... deal where Oshkosh, um, the com- Defense... Defense is supposed to make- Defense... 200, 200 plus thousand of the new s- uh, UP- UP, uh, USPS vehicles, the post office actual.
- 15:09They're shipping half of them to- They're gonna build them in-... Post Office... they're gonna build them in, in South Carolina... South Carolina. South Cackalacky. Yeah. Big hose job right there. Yep. Whatever.
- 15:19Like the Fox Con. The thing looks, the thing looks like a very large Johnny cab. Mm-hmm. [laughs] I don't know if you sit in the center of it. How did I get here?
- 15:29But for efficiency, for efficiency's sake, you should sit in the middle, I would think. So you, you're not gonna get out the left door normally in the United States of America, otherwise you get run over- Mm...
- 15:38by whatever's coming by, but- Right... yeah, so no, no- Hopefully it has sliding doors, 'cause that makes it cooler... I saw- [laughs] No, they have to be like those, uh, gull wing- That'd be cool...
- 15:49yeah, that would- Uh, DeLorean style... take out all the maintenance on those... take out the- That would be like a Johnny cab... that's more like the scissor door. Right. Not a gull- Scissor door...
- 15:56not a true gull wing- You got it... like the old Mercedes- Yeah... where it just got in the way, and then it got hit by the car coming by or the bus or whatever. Right. Or the Lamborghini.
- 16:04There was a, one of those car restoration shows on, uh, a- and it had a, uh, Kaiser Darrin, which I'd never seen before. It, what came out the same time as the Corvette in '53 or 4 or somewhere in there.
- 16:16It was fiberglass just like the Corvette, had a f- four cylinder motor with 90 horsepower, not like the Corvette. Not like the Corvette.
- 16:23[laughs] But it did have these really kickass doors that slid forward into the front fenders. Oh. You only had a little opening to get in.
- 16:31It was maybe 18 inches wide, and then you'd slide the door back, and it was, it was pretty, a pretty slick idea. BMW had a r- a car that the doors dropped into the fenders. Oh, there you go. So- There you go...
- 16:42same, it's very same thing You know how you open a door on a normal car? Why you gotta do all that crazy stuff? Yeah, yeah. Crazy stuff. That's right. Boy engineers, you give, give an engineer an inch, he'll take a door.
- 16:51Yep. Or a mile or something. [laughs] He'll make a three-door car. Yeah. Uh, just, just before the show, I, I played JK a little. Call in. We, we don't get call-ins often enough.
- 17:01People should call in and, and wisecrack while we're not doing the show- [laughs]... and then we can add it into the show through the magic technology. But, uh, our, our good buddy Puck, now Professor Puck, by the way,
- 17:13uh, called in and s- you know, he started his job at MATC as a welding instructor. Nice. Right? Good for him. Yeah. I told him that years ago.
- 17:21Yeah, he was shadowing somebody the last few days, and, "You smell like my brother." No, wait, that was a s- d- that was a different time. Anyway, he called in. [laughs] Whoa. He just...
- 17:33So he was the, he was the, the listener of the show 148, although he did say he listened to it twice. Oh. But he, they had a comment about JK, which we'll put in- [laughs]... right here.
- 17:44Just calling in to say I'm drunk, and I listened to episode number 148 again, and Mike Jox is still funny as AF with his pre-gaming. #YeahYouAre, emoji, care. Thank you, good night. Bye bye.
- 18:02Yeah. [laughs] And we're back. [laughs] I don't know, that guy's funny as hell. [hiccups] Excuse me. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was funny. Pre- pre-game Michael.
- 18:12[hiccups] Apparently, apparently you're funny when you're- [laughs]... pre-gaming to some. And also, to be fair- To be fair... he was slightly tuned up his own damn self as he listened to the show again. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 18:24[laughs] I don't even think I li- Gotta listen... I listen to our show- Every wavelength... more than two... Well, basically one time. Oh. Well, like I said. When I, when I do it, and I'm, I gotta tu- Tuesdays at 9:00.
- 18:35Yeah. Right. Tuesdays at 9:00. There you go. Gotta take somebody out of the running for irritating you the most in the day. [laughs] Sometimes I- I was so- Sometimes I forget- Always...
- 18:47and then it's like 10 minutes into it, I'm like, "What am I listening to?" No, no. It's gonna be our new s- Oh, [laughs] It's gonna be our new T-shirt. We're not as annoying as Dr. Sushi.
- 18:54[laughs] Full Spectrum Cycling, we're not as annoying as Dr. Sushi. [laughs] P.S. Go WMSC. [laughs] This is what's going on in my head [laughs] all the time.
- 19:05Well, and again, there are times when I tune into him and I'm like, "Oh, that's pretty..." Once in a very blue moon. It's true. It is true.
- 19:13I mean- But you know you can get that a- anywhere you are, dear listener, wmsd.org, greatest radio station in the world. Yeah. It's also on the interwebs, oddly enough. Yes. And El, uh, Archives.
- 19:25Not a big fan of their app on the phone yet. Eh. It, it needs a little more... It's, it, it needs a little more tu- Well, it's iPhone specific. Yeah.
- 19:31But it needs a little more tuning, a little more, and more access, 'cause it's, like, this week's show maybe. I don't know how far the archives go back. That's why you just go to the damn- Damn website. Yeah.
- 19:40And you got the website capability- Um... on your damn iPhone. But there's more- You just take that away. The apple juice and soak that up. There's more- [laughs] There's more to it than that.
- 19:48You're making it much easier than it should be. Yeah. Exactly. It is. [laughs] You don't have to... [laughs] Exactly. You don't have to... Hey, listen, I work in a damn academia bureaucracy.
- 20:01Well- It doesn't have to, it doesn't have to be that complicated. We- [laughs] On, on a slightly bike related, uh, uh, topic, uh- I rode my bike to work... there is a ride coming up this weekend. Shannon sent it to me.
- 20:14Shannon sent the ride? He sent me the, the poster. The, the slip and ride? Slip and ride, yep. Silver Lake Park. That's a... There's a lot of nice little trails down there. It's got some elevation.
- 20:25It's not, you know, lung-bustingly horrible. But there's a lot of good stuff. I nearly broke my thumb. You broke your thumb there? Damn near it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I know. It's exactly what I thought. "They took my thumbs."
- 20:35[laughs] I yard saled the bottom of the, at the bottom of that hill. Oh, with that little wump down there? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you did miss-time the wump... and then every person that did it is like, "Oh, man.
- 20:44I took a deer at the bottom of that hill." I'm like, "Yep." [laughs] You get airborne. It's icy. Like, it sucked. [laughs] You sh- I, I really wiped out. Probably a recon to go horse that. [laughs] Yeah, I know.
- 20:53And I, to be fair, I drank too much. To be fair. To be fair. I made waffles. It was fun. I brought waffle mix and... Yeah, I remember that race. Yeah. Yeah, it was- It was good... yeah, it was good.
- 21:03That's, it's a fun time down there. They've got a very nice, like, pavilion-y kind of thing- Yep... right on the lake. Yep... that I believe would normally- That's when Gomez lived near it. Back in Cameroon.
- 21:11He does live near it. Pavilion. Well, no, he doesn't live as near it anymore. Right, right. Pavilion, pavilion, pavilion, pavilion. I wouldn't be- Pavilion, pavilion, pavilion...
- 21:16I wouldn't be surprised if there were no mez there, though. That's, that's, right, that's, uh, tomorrow for people that are... It starts at noon by the looks of it, so be there or be a humbus. Ye... So- Be a humbus...
- 21:28on, on, on the note, now that we're on the calendar thing- And talking about bikes. Yeah, and talking about bikes. [laughs] Little things. You know, you really ought to check out that fat-bike.com/calendar. Oh, no.
- 21:40It's event ca- whatever. It's on the show notes. Just go to thing and there's- You're making it too easy. [laughs] There, every, every, every day almost I'm seeing new events being added, 'cause I- Oh...
- 21:49get a notification when they add stuff, so I can say, "No, it's not a fat bike event." No. No. No. But no. That's good. But I have not- [laughs]
- 21:59We, we haven't really put the clamp down on anyone, unless they don't pay their advertising revenue fee. [laughs] By the way, you can do that at fat-bike.com. Fat- You can- Bike... you can pay to play.
- 22:13It's not, not hard at all. It's easy. It's semi. Take credit cards. It takes- Just do it. Semi. It takes- Just do it now... it's not hard. Just- Does, does it take crypto? Wait a second.
- 22:22Why am I pro- Does it take crypto? Uh, you know what? We should make our show take crypto. Uh- Any, any denomination... so, so Kathy Woods at ARK Investment- Yeah...
- 22:33predicts 180K for Ethereum by 2030, and a million for Bitcoin. I'm on that Ethereum train. I like that guy. He's my happy. Keep buying him [laughs] while he's going down and crashing and burning. Yeah, it's been bad.
- 22:49You know what we need? We need to make free money with, with miners. Yeah. Yeah. Whoa. And- Yeah... maybe some NFTs. Really? Yeah. I'm not sure about those yet. Yeah. I told you my idea for that, didn't I?
- 23:01NFTs of my butt. I'm not tell- I'm not gonna tell all these fine listeners my idea- [laughs]... but it's a pretty good idea for an NFT. You'll learn more about it when we do it, I'm sure, on the- That's it...
- 23:09on the Sven NFT channel, which is a completely different- When I'm broadcasting. [laughs] When I'm broadcasting from a beach, earning- Yeah... 20%. Right.
- 23:17We're using- [laughs] You can get- I'm hanging out with Hans Gruber... like Starlink- [laughs]... has, like, a $500 a month plan now that's, like, five gigs up or something.
- 23:26[laughs] It's ridiculously fast if you wanna pay the five hundo. Well, if you're a resort, that's nothing. You're gonna just piggyback everybody on that, don't you?
- 23:34Isn't that a terms of use fucking violation or something? If they know. You have to use it only for crypto mining. That's all. Oh, they do that. [laughs] I don't know. I'm sure happy when this thing turns around again.
- 23:48Eh, that's okay. That's okay. So it's, I'm in it for the long haul. I am, too. I'm gonna do dollar cost averaging on it. I just like waking up in the morning with more money. Right. It's great.
- 23:57And doing nothing to get it. Right. It's like making money when you're sleeping. Mm-hmm. It's the, it, it's my dream. I don't know if it's anybody else's dream. I got a 2% raise.
- 24:04Yeah, Molly too, and then look what- Yeah... this chancellor get, like 28. Of course. [laughs] Percent raise? Yeah, he got a huge raise. He should be a mensch and say, "Yeah, thanks for the thought, but, uh..."
- 24:18It's, it's, like, over 700 grand a year now. That's a lot of moolah. Level left to make a million at Marquette. Wait, that's okay, 'cause Marquette's a, you know, that's a- National level.
- 24:28Well, UWM is doing some stuff, but- Hey... well, well- Some national research And I, I asked him, you know, he was all, I mean, I'm like, "Ooh, Marquette, good work." He's like, "Nah, I moved to LA."
- 24:39And, or he's like, "I moved to New York City and no one knows what Marquette is there." Do they know what UWM is? Well, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, they will. Will they? I think so.
- 24:51That would be like, that's in Oregon. I was just up there. I mean, the, the- University of-... the head of Microsoft went to UW Milwaukee. UW-M. Yeah. Well, no, th- that'd be like saying Ball State, you know?
- 25:01[laughs] First you chuckle and then you go, "I have no idea where that is." [laughs] Where is that? I don't know. It's between your legs. [laughs] What's round on both ends and high in the middle? Ohio. There you go.
- 25:12No, oh, speaking of- While we're in- [laughs]... speaking of Ohio, which is- Wordplay... semi-close to Illinois, there will be no in-person CABDA this year in, in the Illinois, uh- Hmm...
- 25:21at least the Midwest version of the show. No Waffle House. You know, I, I- No Waffle House stop. I like those. We went to the last one. The la- which was, like, three years ago now. Well, af- Just two. 2019.
- 25:33Yeah, but this will be the third one, I think. They, yeah. Oh, yeah, you're right. I think- Whatever it is. Uh, anyway- It was in 2020. It was just the start. I do like- I think it was 2020.
- 25:40I do like trade shows where you can paw at stuff a little bit, but- Yeah... in the end, they're really probably superfluous nowadays, but it, a guy can send you a sample in the mail.
- 25:51You can watch various- Hell, if you order specialized, they'll send you your whole bike in the mail now. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's true. Hell. Yeah. Well- Jesus. Cons- so consumer direct. Hey, Trek is next.
- 26:01Of course they are.
- 26:02Speaking of Trek, and I'm, you know, no bashing of Wheel & Sprocket on this show, 'cause they do such a good bit of stuff for it in the state of Wisconsin cycling-wise, but I just had to, I, I don't know if I have time.
- 26:15We do have time to read the whole thing, so. [laughs] So they have plans for 2022. Always eyes on the fire, this and that. They have 11 locations, Wisconsin and Illinois. Noel Keggle, awesome dude. Mm-hmm.
- 26:27Um, described the long-term plan. 2020 was a year to react, 2021 to stabilize, and 2022 to raise the bar. We've introduced a new universal organizational model to reach our goals.
- 26:38So then they get sent to the marketing speak in here, which I just, I... Orbiting around the sun are planets of such, of support, such as- What?... administration. Oh, wait.
- 26:47It's a hier- They ditched the hierarchical [laughs] organizational chart in favor of a sun and planets analogy in which the customer is the sun. The customer experience is the sun.
- 26:59Orbiting around the sun are planets of support, such as administration, marketing, and operations. Wait, wait. Can I- To- You gotta, can, do, I gotta go get a bucket.
- 27:06But there's, there's an org chart here, though, Kevin. Just telling you.
- 27:08He's treating each manager as a business owner using a pure advisory format where managers form groups to process issues, push each other, and hold each other accountable.
- 27:17Our goal is to really put that customer experience in the absolute center of focus for us as an organization. It gives us all purpose, energy, and life. All right.
- 27:27So I'm not saying that I think that that actually kinda- Yeah... sorta does describe what they do. They really do, in some cases- Mm... make folks happy. That, at least that's their goal.
- 27:38But that thing, I think there's an app on your phone you can actually get that will generate marketing speak, and I think it did that. Mm. Huh. You know, I just like, ugh.
- 27:49Doesn't roll off the- I, I will tell you- Sorry, Noel... that doesn't sound like Noel to me. [laughs] Well, and it, it, it probably isn't. It doesn't roll off the tongue or, or mind.
- 27:54It's probably the marketing clowns they work with. Right. That, that's- Sorry, Amelia. I apologize. We're not making fun of the company. We love you folks.
- 28:02But jeez, with this mar- [laughs] I can't bel- it's just, like, spewing. Uh, really? It, yeah, it's... And who's reading that? What, what is that in?
- 28:10This is in Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, which- Oh, that's going to other guys. That, yeah... more often known as BRAIN, because this is supposed to be the smartest people in the bike biz. Okay.
- 28:19Well, I understand why, but that's totally marketing to them. That makes sense. That's why I've never been in here. [laughs] Um, yeah, I, I, you know. They are the big dogs. It's fine. Well, that's true.
- 28:29They em- they employ a lot of people. And at least- A lot of people in my neighborhood. And at least they're not ERIK'S, which is even better. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, speaking of, of bike- Amen. Oh, by the way- Yeah?...
- 28:38I don't, I didn't look it up, but I noticed it the other day, BikeSmiths moved. Oh, moved. Supposedly. I don't think they're gone. I think they moved. Well- Well, they did move, and they're almost 97.5% online.
- 28:52Well, they were before, and kinda- Well, to be fair. To be fair. They were before- Ah... because you have to have a retail location- Yeah... in order to do some of this stuff. Sure. Sure, sure. Sure.
- 29:02I, no, it, it was just going by it. I was like, "Oh my God." But I didn't look into it, so.
- 29:06When I, when I first started looking at online parts, like on eBay and stuff, I was shocked to see that the three biggest players were all in Milwaukee. Yeah, and the guy that's been doing,
- 29:15uh, BikeSmith stuff, Drew, he's their, like, e-commerce god. He's been doing it for, I don't know, it's, it, it's way more than 10 years. Yeah, like 15 years plus. Yeah.
- 29:25Yeah, 'cause I remember, uh, I was just starting out g- learning HTML and stuff, and he was in there, and they were just like, "Ooh, we need a website and stuff."
- 29:32And then he really got into the e-commerce side, and they're, they're big dogs. Yeah, that's right. I remember getting my Kenda Quick Tracks- But like a lot of big dogs-... a ways from there. Ooh. Ooh...
- 29:41you know, once you get to that point where you have that much, um, traffic and revenue- You go anywhere... you can, you can whore stuff out for really cheap- Yeah...
- 29:48and make a very minimal profit and shaft everybody else on their ability to make money.
- 29:54[coughs] If, you know, I mean, I know there's minimum advertised prices for some stuff, but there's other stuff you can get that you can do at a 5% margin, and you're doing a bunch of it, then you're, you're making money.
- 30:04But it's just like, well, do you wanna be that guy? Well, I also, just having a wrench around, that was one of the three wrenches I would go to. You know, there's- Yeah, that's-... like Truly Spoken,
- 30:17uh, BikeSmiths, Corey's, of c- you know. So they're- Yeah... kinda dropping like flies on my... Well, I mean, not dropping, but moving. Truly's still there. Yeah. That Everyday Cycles joint moved.
- 30:29Exactly Yeah, those, those guys Those guys [laughs] Those guys I wouldn't even go to them They're the best I, I send people away from us all the time.
- 30:36[laughs] That's all I- That's what I'm saying Well, we're doing discreet... that's what I'm saying. I, now I am- We're, we have the other options, right? [laughs] We're a boutique. We're a boutique bike shop.
- 30:42Well, I, I- We're discreet... I would say right now we're, we're a manufacturer because we're back to doing stuff for other companies instead of- Where are you gonna put those 11 bikes, Greg- Gregory?
- 30:50Oh, I got options And we're, and lifestyle influencers. [laughs] The former podcast room which didn't work out would make a very nice storage room Yeah, it would Yeah, it would.
- 30:58That's what that would do You could fit 11 bikes in there You know what I'd like to do, get out, besides other bikes that are in the shop that need to get out, I wanna get rid of this orange Tatanka at some point Tatanka I don't think I've ever actually put it on the site though.
- 31:09It's a large Tatanka, fully built, ready to go. You know, it's got, uh, other brother Darryl's on it, and so it's co- collection of decent parts so it's not stupid expensive.
- 31:19Somebody wants a nice old school, awesome 170, 135 large fat bike that still takes pretty dang good sized tires in there. You know, can't get a Wednesday anymore right now, so. Actually, Shannon just did Got a Wednesday?
- 31:34He found a Wednesday in the... Wait, which bike, which was the prickly pear cactus? Was that a Wednesday? That was an ice cream truck Oh, he got an ice cream truck, sorry. Yep, not a Wednesday Stumbler one Yeah.
- 31:43I'm, I don't know, I'm still a 170 guy for the fat bike thing. Well, I'm a 90 guy I really, I was gonna buy a Wednesday and then I had to get a crown For your face?
- 31:51Yeah Well, now you got an ape so don't worry about it Well, I know, but not yet.
- 31:55[laughs] I don't, I haven't finished paying for it That and, uh, it also needs to get some parts thrown at it so you can actually ride it Yeah, I know Heck, heck and a, heck, heck, heck and a, hey, 150, folks.
- 32:06I guess- Hmm... I guess that's, I don't know, that, [laughs] that's all there is and there ain't no more That's all she damn wrote Well, that's, uh- I forgot something but that's okay...
