- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, look Chuck Berry's pants. It's one more thing. I'm
- 0:04Speaker 1: strong and one more thing. One of the good things
- 0:11Speaker 1: about the Republican Convention in twenty sixteen when we went
- 0:15Speaker 1: and Trump was the guy, and so we got to
- 0:17Speaker 1: go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'd always wanted to go to all my whole life.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I found it underwhelming.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. I wouldn't go again. I wouldn't go
- 0:27Speaker 2: to any trouble to go again. If I was with
- 0:29Speaker 2: somebody wanted to, I'd go with them. But it was
- 0:31Speaker 2: it was fine.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's about Yeah, that's about it. It was fine. It
- 0:36Speaker 1: was better than not doing anything that day.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, for one day, I'm more rock guy than you,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I think.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But I'm not knowing if that had anything to do
- 0:47Speaker 1: with it.
- 0:47Speaker 2: But yeah, my memories of it, there are a few
- 0:50Speaker 2: things that it gave me a bit of a charge.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But again, it was fine. It's a it's a tourist attraction.
- 0:59Speaker 1: To draw tour what what is some of It's kind
- 1:03Speaker 1: of cool? What are we hearing Jelly roll singing here?
- 1:05Speaker 2: What is it?
- 1:06Speaker 1: What is he? He's a guy? Ozzy Osborne's classic Mama,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm Coming Home and Ozzy Osbourne got put into the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, but is unable to sing. Could be
- 1:14Speaker 1: or something, It doesn't matter. Here we go all right
- 1:39Speaker 1: if you like that sort of thing, I guess. And uh,
- 1:41Speaker 1: here's Sharon. Whytt's so hard for her to get She
- 1:44Speaker 1: just got into the rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- 1:46Speaker 1: for some reason?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Here we go away. Sure, how's easier getting divorced from
- 1:50Speaker 2: two men than it was to get into the rock
- 1:54Speaker 2: and roll Hall of Fame? You know?
- 1:55Speaker 1: So I I have just been really lucky and I
- 1:58Speaker 1: have had number one for seven decades, which surprises me.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Because I'm a good singer. You know, I'm a good singer.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I'm not a great singer, but you know what, I'll
- 2:12Speaker 2: take good. That's an old lady rambling about something.
- 2:18Speaker 1: What is the joke it was easier to get divorced
- 2:21Speaker 1: from two men than to get into the rock and
- 2:23Speaker 1: roll Hall of Fame?
- 2:24Speaker 2: It was just a poor attempted humor.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I don't know, you're younger. Does share have any meaning
- 2:30Speaker 1: for you in your life?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Not?
- 2:32Speaker 1: Really?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Look, it's you know, as I said, uh, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 2: tritely and idiotically a moment ago. It's a tourist attraction.
- 2:42Speaker 2: That's trying to attract tourists. They needed more gay guys
- 2:48Speaker 2: in their forties, that's what that's what that is is.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So you get in a share it's a fine song stress,
- 2:55Speaker 2: that's right.
- 2:56Speaker 1: If you got a whole bunch of bands that all
- 2:57Speaker 1: get the same kind of guy, then you're not going
- 3:00Speaker 1: to have any any tourists. But you have gay dudes
- 3:04Speaker 1: who go just to see Shares outfits, They'll probably have
- 3:07Speaker 1: a bunch of Shares outfits that I could see that
- 3:09Speaker 1: being the biggest draw on the tired in the entire
- 3:11Speaker 1: damn place.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah sure, yeah, I've you know, I've hated the Rock
- 3:16Speaker 2: and Roll Hall of Fame. I don't hate it. I
- 3:18Speaker 2: just thought it was stupid for a long time, partly
- 3:21Speaker 2: because of what I said about Taurus and the other thing.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's just Yon winner of the Rolling Stone magazine in
- 3:27Speaker 2: his East Coast mostly music critty critic buddies who just
- 3:32Speaker 2: they have a particular taste and it's just I don't
- 3:35Speaker 2: know they and they didn't let Rush in for like
- 3:37Speaker 2: twenty years, which is idiotic. The greatest band ever existed
- 3:41Speaker 2: because critics hate Rush shaded. He didn't realize that's why
- 3:45Speaker 2: he hates the rock and roll hall, so his favorite
- 3:47Speaker 2: band didn't get in, So that's okay, But it's in
- 3:50Speaker 2: defensively the fourth biggest album act ever. They don't get
- 3:54Speaker 2: in because freaking New York skinny ty wearing chain smoking
- 3:59Speaker 2: a whole, don't like rush F you f you Yes,
- 4:03Speaker 2: stupid twits. Anyway, do you guys want to hear Share sing?
- 4:08Speaker 1: No?
- 4:08Speaker 2: No? No? All right?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Was that a rhetorical question?
- 4:13Speaker 2: I'd rather listen to Joe yell this is great. Go ahead,
- 4:17Speaker 2: play a little Michael. I don't. I don't give a crap.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Solid all right?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I was right the first time.
- 4:32Speaker 1: She is an old woman. Now, yeah she sings like
- 4:34Speaker 1: an old woman.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, good lord. No, wonder if Sonny hit that tree
- 4:40Speaker 2: that was that's distasteful?
- 4:43Speaker 1: You think he Well, they'd been divorced for a long time.
- 4:46Speaker 1: It would have been odd to ski into a tree
- 4:48Speaker 1: on purpose.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Indeed, I don't understand your psychological assessment of the late congressman.
- 4:55Speaker 1: That was the video that she had the assless chaps
- 4:58Speaker 1: on the aircraft carrier.
- 5:00Speaker 2: The cruise ship. Yeah, literally swimming I'm not cruise ship,
- 5:03Speaker 2: troop ship. Literally swimming after troop ships.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And we all learned. Words are like weapons. They wound sometimes,
- 5:09Speaker 1: is what we learned.
- 5:10Speaker 2: All that as well, this neat So the class of
- 5:15Speaker 2: nineteen eighty six was the first R and R. Hof
- 5:19Speaker 2: class included Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Robert
- 5:25Speaker 2: Johnson is an early influenced Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers,
- 5:29Speaker 2: Fats Domino, Sam Cook, Ray, Charles James Brown, Chuck Berry.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Wow. So that's like the first Hall of Fame class
- 5:36Speaker 1: for baseball. That's Ty Cobb, Babe, Ruth, you know that
- 5:39Speaker 1: whole list. I mean, it's just like, yeah, of course
- 5:41Speaker 1: these people have to.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Be in right, the cream of the cream of the crop.
- 5:44Speaker 2: But let's skip ahead. I don't know, chosen at random
- 5:47Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, Carly Simon, Okay, Lionel Ritchie Rocker, Pat
- 5:57Speaker 2: Bennettar and their husband Neil Giralda oh is a big
- 6:00Speaker 2: part of the band.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I don't understand the term rock and roll. I guess
- 6:04Speaker 1: as part of it. What do they just call it?
- 6:06Speaker 1: The Music Hall of Fame.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Well, Dolly Parton, famous rocker, was inducted in twenty twenty
- 6:14Speaker 2: two uh judas Priest Musical Excellence, as opposed to performer.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I don't even know what that is. A bunch of executives.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Alan Grubman got the am Artigon Award. Congratulations, Rhythmics, fine
- 6:39Speaker 2: crafters of fairly original pop. There for a little while,
- 6:43Speaker 2: they had some great songs.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I'm fine with all that. I like Leonel Ritchie, I,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I like a lot of this stuff, But I just
- 6:49Speaker 1: don't understand what rock and roll means. Eminem Duran Squared, Eminem,
- 6:56Speaker 1: Bella Fontine Rocker, Eminem.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I what, ever.
- 7:02Speaker 1: The most interesting thing I've learned about music recently. You
- 7:05Speaker 1: brought to us a couple of weeks ago that when
- 7:06Speaker 1: you hear a song from the fifties and they talk
- 7:09Speaker 1: about dancing, they mean sex. Ever since then, every time
- 7:12Speaker 1: I hear one of these songs like Wow, okay, I
- 7:14Speaker 1: want to dance with you all night long. When I
- 7:16Speaker 1: was a kid, I was like, man, these people like dancing.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean, I don't like dancing that much, and I
- 7:20Speaker 1: don't know anybody who likes that, but these people really
- 7:22Speaker 1: really like dancing.
- 7:24Speaker 2: A large percentage at the time, Yes, they don't mean dancing,
- 7:27Speaker 2: they mean blanking. Now, if they say rock you, that's
- 7:30Speaker 2: one hundred percent means blank you, I.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Want to rock you all night long?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Sure, please? A child like a hurricane. No, no, it's
- 7:42Speaker 2: not getting a baby to sleep. No, indeed, it's it's
- 7:46Speaker 2: just you change a couple of letters and you get
- 7:48Speaker 2: what they're really talking about. And I find it disgusting.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Oh my god, what seems you do you like today, Joe?
- 7:55Speaker 1: But it seems kind of almost nothing. I mean, I'm
- 7:58Speaker 1: not I'm not, you know, a prude who denies the
- 8:02Speaker 1: reality of being a young man. But a song that
- 8:06Speaker 1: basically just says, man, I'd like to have sex with
- 8:08Speaker 1: you is not very artistic, so I'm glad they use
- 8:13Speaker 1: some euphemisms. She's hot, I'd like to have sex with
- 8:16Speaker 1: her is the name of this song. And then I'll
- 8:18Speaker 1: just repeat it over and over again. What is that kidding?
- 8:23Speaker 1: So and all the other guys?
- 8:24Speaker 2: So whatever, Yeah, looking at this year's class whatever that means,
- 8:31Speaker 2: I don't even know.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Wow, this is the title. Just call this one Joe's
- 8:36Speaker 1: Onui will be the name of this podcast.
- 8:39Speaker 2: A tribe called Quest really really interesting musically, just trying
- 8:44Speaker 2: to draw in a different constituency. I get it now,
- 8:47Speaker 2: Like I've been to the country mus school and the gang. Right.
- 8:50Speaker 1: The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville that I've
- 8:52Speaker 1: been to is fantastic. I loved that. I didn't get
- 8:55Speaker 1: much out of the rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- 8:56Speaker 1: for some reason. Songwriters Hall of Fame is very cool.
- 8:59Speaker 1: The museum they've got up in Seattle, the whatever it
- 9:03Speaker 1: is a Purple Experience or whatever they call it, because
- 9:07Speaker 1: that's Jimmy hendricks hometown. But it has really got some
- 9:09Speaker 1: really cool stuff too, not just Hendricks, just all kinds
- 9:12Speaker 1: of different stuff.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Now, what if they call it the Museum of Pop
- 9:17Speaker 2: Culture Now or something? I do not know. Yeah, so, Katie,
- 9:21Speaker 2: the coolest stuff at the Rock and Roll Hall of
- 9:23Speaker 2: Fame and this is Gone now is a special exhibition
- 9:28Speaker 2: was in the style the font of Pink Floyd's The
- 9:32Speaker 2: Wall album. All the cover art was Roger Waters explaining
- 9:36Speaker 2: why he wrote that, and it was about how he'd
- 9:40Speaker 2: become this giant rock star. And at one point there
- 9:44Speaker 2: was like a net separating them from the crowd, like
- 9:48Speaker 2: down below, and a guy was climbing up the net,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and for some reason he spit on the guy and
- 9:54Speaker 2: he had this enormous moment of oh my god, what
- 9:57Speaker 2: have I become? And so he wrote a story about
- 10:01Speaker 2: a guy seduced by fame and fortune in drugs who'd
- 10:04Speaker 2: become this fascist monster that sickened himself. And I thought, wow,
- 10:09Speaker 2: because that's always been one of my favorite albums. And
- 10:11Speaker 2: they liked that.
- 10:12Speaker 1: That's the one cool thing and they took that out.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I think. So I'd love seeing Joe Strummer's telecaster because
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm a huge clash freak. And then the only other
- 10:22Speaker 2: thing that left an impression was some of Keith Richards
- 10:25Speaker 2: and Mick Jagger's stage clothing that they used to swap
- 10:29Speaker 2: clothes with their girlfriends because they all had like twenty
- 10:33Speaker 2: three inch waists. Yeah, they were tiny, skinny little fellas.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Speed and cigarettes will do that, I guess.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah. And pre McDonald's so, why did dude spit on
- 10:45Speaker 1: the guy? Why did he do that?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Because he'd become a monster that he didn't recognize. But well,
- 10:53Speaker 2: I kind of sick with his own power and cynicism.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Wow, it's hard to imagine getting to a point you'd
- 11:02Speaker 1: spit on your fans.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, one of your own fans. Yeah, Well, it's sickened him,
- 11:08Speaker 2: of course. Now he's endorsing Vladimir Putin, so Rogers not
- 11:12Speaker 2: always at the best judgment.
- 11:14Speaker 1: We were in I think we're in Idaho, and we
- 11:18Speaker 1: kept seeing signs for the Onion Hall of Fame, and
- 11:21Speaker 1: I kept threatening the kids that we were going to
- 11:23Speaker 1: go there.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Look, hey, hey, pipe down back there, or I'll take
- 11:29Speaker 2: you to the Onion Hall of Fame.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Look, my job as a dad is to expose you
- 11:32Speaker 1: to a lot of different things. It going to be
- 11:33Speaker 1: a great learning experience. I kept hammering this for a
- 11:36Speaker 1: long time. They talked for sure I was going to
- 11:39Speaker 1: make them go to the Onion Hall of Fame. We
- 11:41Speaker 1: stayed in the night nearby, and so we got to
- 11:42Speaker 1: get up early because the Onion Hall of Fame, I'd
- 11:44Speaker 1: looked it up. It opens at eight, and I want
- 11:46Speaker 1: to get there before it gets crowded. I doubt it
- 11:50Speaker 1: ever gets crowded. Yeah, you gotta go. It opening right
- 11:55Speaker 1: when it opens otherwise. Yeah, it's just you don't have
- 11:58Speaker 1: to wait long for two hours to get it into
- 12:00Speaker 1: the Onion Hall of Fame.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Lessiers Clash includes a pound and a half of Dalia
- 12:05Speaker 2: onion and a red onion that's said to have the
- 12:12Speaker 2: finest flavor profile of the last twenty years.
- 12:15Speaker 1: They wouldn't allow grilled onions in until twenty fifteen, and
- 12:18Speaker 1: that was a huge controversy.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Oh I remember, I remember, well.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Join us next time.
- 12:25Speaker 2: When Joel Air his complains about Chane restaurants of the
- 12:28Speaker 2: nineteen nineties, well I guess that's it.
