Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Today.
- 0:00Speaker 2: This is Dale Tanner from Op and Grove Come and
- 0:03Speaker 2: Cheat live from the Chicago Cub's Home Stadium. We're currently
- 0:08Speaker 2: on tour right now with Dawn Hill in North America
- 0:12Speaker 2: and at the end of that tour coming home back
- 0:15Speaker 2: to Australia and we will be playing.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Four very special shows.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's part of the Odd Label Australia to us and
- 0:24Speaker 2: so we're going to be playing Brisbane, Sydney, Marlmon and
- 0:27Speaker 2: Adelaide and it's.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Going to be two albums in full.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We're playing Black Label in full and we're playing Odd
- 0:33Speaker 2: World in full, some of our oldest material, some of
- 0:37Speaker 2: our newest material all in one and it's going to
- 0:39Speaker 2: be a very special night.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I can't lay fantastic, Dale, thanks for joining us on
- 0:44Speaker 3: what must be a sensational day for you.
- 0:46Speaker 4: May that looks fantastic.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It's mate, Prince. The sun is out today, it is
- 0:52Speaker 2: Golden Hour. We're at the baseball can't complain.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Nice as you say when you finished yet set and
- 0:59Speaker 3: then watching this all around the world. Bro, are you
- 1:01Speaker 3: coming back to Australia to do the Odd Label? Headline
- 1:04Speaker 3: tourist picks off in Brisbane. I made the twenty third
- 1:07Speaker 3: in Sydney and Melbourne. So how's the prep going over there?
- 1:11Speaker 4: Mate?
- 1:11Speaker 3: Like you're obviously playing a big way over there, so
- 1:14Speaker 3: you'd be landing back home fitting ready to go.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We've you know, we actually ah here they come to
- 1:22Speaker 2: watch out.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It was yeah, we've yeah, here we are, Yeah, jump
- 1:27Speaker 1: on in there we go. This is Micah. Who else
- 1:30Speaker 1: you go are?
- 1:30Speaker 2: You're oh you got Benny guys?
- 1:36Speaker 1: All right boys?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, he said, welcome to straight out.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Have a couple of beers for me.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got that all right? Yeah you heard that. Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 2: We've been playing some of the old stuff at soundcheck
- 1:54Speaker 2: and it's really exciting. You know. The boys kind of
- 1:57Speaker 2: got on stage and I get to sort of stand
- 1:59Speaker 2: just on the on the floor and like I'm a
- 2:01Speaker 2: participant in it and and sort of kind of witness
- 2:04Speaker 2: what it's going to be like. And I'm hearing these
- 2:06Speaker 2: songs that we haven't played live in a very long
- 2:08Speaker 2: time once again being performed.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But with this new life and this energy that.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We have now as at the current live band, it's
- 2:15Speaker 2: just these songs will be performed in a way that
- 2:17Speaker 2: they've never been performed before. And there's all six of
- 2:20Speaker 2: us are going to be on stage. You've got Luke
- 2:21Speaker 2: Tuccie Holmes is going to be joining us this too,
- 2:24Speaker 2: as well as Matt Running Touch Hoot. He's going to
- 2:27Speaker 2: be on sort of Z Day some depth guitar vocal,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and Luke's gonna be out there with me on vocals.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And it's going to be really a really special moment
- 2:37Speaker 2: to finally come together in this full circle moment after
- 2:41Speaker 2: all these years, you know, ten years we're on this
- 2:43Speaker 2: tour and there's some people that are coming up to
- 2:44Speaker 2: be at the show and they're like, I've been waiting
- 2:46Speaker 2: since Black Label to see you guys, And I'm like,
- 2:48Speaker 2: that's a ten years, Like that's significant, Like that's an
- 2:53Speaker 2: incredible thing to just to be part of. To think
- 2:56Speaker 2: that someone's been waiting for so long for something that
- 2:58Speaker 2: we're doing. And so I think it's very very special
- 3:01Speaker 2: that Australia is getting these one off fun shows and I,
- 3:05Speaker 2: as I said, I cannot wait.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Straight now.
- 3:10Speaker 3: As you mentioned, you're going to be celebrating the ten
- 3:13Speaker 3: year anniversary of Black Label as well as the most
- 3:15Speaker 3: recent one Odd World. But was it always planned to
- 3:17Speaker 3: play those two releases together or was it more a
- 3:19Speaker 3: case that you work out the running lift of Odd
- 3:22Speaker 3: World and you realize you needed about one more EPs
- 3:24Speaker 3: worth of stuff to Flessy out of the set.
- 3:26Speaker 4: So you were that way.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I think the way the way that it came about
- 3:35Speaker 2: was we we were in a predicament where we had
- 3:39Speaker 2: so much Yeah, it was a good predicament to be
- 3:41Speaker 2: and we had so many two opportunities coming up, and
- 3:44Speaker 2: our year was filling up. Twenty twenty five was filling
- 3:46Speaker 2: up in such a way that there weren't many windows
- 3:49Speaker 2: that we could actually make this work.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And all of a sudden we found ourselves being in
- 3:52Speaker 1: a type.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Position where we didn't know when we were going to
- 3:55Speaker 2: actually be able to do an Australian tour to celebrate
- 3:58Speaker 2: Odd World as an album in tandem with wanting to
- 4:03Speaker 2: celebrate ten years out of ear of Black Label and
- 4:08Speaker 2: so we were like, well, we can't really do both separately.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Why don't we just do them together?
- 4:13Speaker 2: And so that's kind of just how it came about,
- 4:16Speaker 2: was that it was it was like, Okay, well we
- 4:17Speaker 2: want to celebrate Black Labels because that was such a
- 4:19Speaker 2: significant release for us, and we love the idea of
- 4:23Speaker 2: really almost like a live re release of that record
- 4:27Speaker 2: for people to experience that live us for ten years,
- 4:29Speaker 2: you know, or so that we haven't really played a
- 4:30Speaker 2: lot of those songs. It felt like a really cool
- 4:33Speaker 2: thing to do. And then and then yeah, a new album.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I feel like it is that full circle moment where
- 4:38Speaker 2: we've gone back to those roots, those black label rats,
- 4:41Speaker 2: he taste roots and kind of really really push that
- 4:46Speaker 2: into our music now here on onorld.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And so.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It feels like the perfect time to do such a thing.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It seems bold, and I like that because it's how
- 4:58Speaker 2: often do you get to experience a full record from
- 5:01Speaker 2: two full records from artists and ten years apart.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I think it's funny an.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Experience, and so I'm really starting to see how it's,
- 5:07Speaker 2: how it's going to feel, how it's going to go.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We've never played any show like this, so it's a
- 5:10Speaker 2: very special occasion.
- 5:13Speaker 3: There's actually been quite a bit of music great with
- 5:15Speaker 3: the Notion Grove in the ten years separating these two releases.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So was that notice of what of you guys when
- 5:20Speaker 3: you had to go back and land these old songs,
- 5:22Speaker 3: like could you sort of tell how far you've advanced?
- 5:25Speaker 3: And said?
- 5:29Speaker 1: If anything, it was just.
- 5:31Speaker 2: A lovely surprise to know that three years of touring
- 5:36Speaker 2: and the experience that we've been able to gain through
- 5:38Speaker 2: all these years of our career, and you can grow
- 5:41Speaker 2: that now returning to these songs, not only do they
- 5:44Speaker 2: feel fresh again, but we have so many more notes
- 5:48Speaker 2: in our belt and means of vocalists that alone, everyone
- 5:51Speaker 2: else as new musicians have really excelled so so much
- 5:54Speaker 2: in the last few years that I haven't said. I
- 5:56Speaker 2: can stand there and watch these songs being performed and people, Wow,
- 6:00Speaker 2: our bands are really in for a treat, Like, Oh,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever quite heard that these songs
- 6:05Speaker 2: perform like this before, And it gives your chills almost
- 6:08Speaker 2: thinking like maybe this is just like what it was
- 6:10Speaker 2: all meant to be all along, is that we're supposed
- 6:13Speaker 2: to return to this and actually these songs still work
- 6:16Speaker 2: perfectly with what we're doing right now. And isn't that
- 6:18Speaker 2: a beautiful thing that we can hopefully just reintroduce along
- 6:22Speaker 2: the line.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And be able to do these fun things.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And I think that's just what makes it exciting.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and now you're gonna have to be like playing
- 6:30Speaker 3: all the songs in chronological order, or are you going
- 6:32Speaker 3: to mix them up a bit, so people don't know
- 6:34Speaker 3: what's coming.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Now that I'm going to keep an absolute secret, and that's.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Probably if we gather from our response what that means.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I mean, I'd like to see what people would prefer,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and I'm not formally putting out a questionnaire, but I'd
- 6:52Speaker 2: be interested to see who would prefer back to Front
- 6:55Speaker 2: or you know, a set list that's curated in a
- 6:57Speaker 2: way where on what old black label actually works, intendem
- 7:00Speaker 2: and compliment one another throughout the set.
- 7:08Speaker 4: If I was a betting man.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I'd put money on the fact that you get to
- 7:11Speaker 3: chop and change him up a bit, because you guys,
- 7:13Speaker 3: you get us to get too bored if you knew
- 7:15Speaker 3: what was coming night after night the same.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So that my opinion, well, you must go to the
- 7:22Speaker 2: races every now and then.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Then, Chris Cool I'm heading there right after this now.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Actually, now you've already sold out the Brisbane show that
- 7:33Speaker 3: Adelaide venues had to be upgraded. It's still a month
- 7:36Speaker 3: out from the shows, bro, So that's got to be
- 7:38Speaker 3: a good feeling in itself so far out.
- 7:40Speaker 4: That that you've got that support back at home.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, no, definitely, it is. It's really nice.
- 7:47Speaker 2: We've been you know, we've been all across Europe now
- 7:49Speaker 2: all across North America, and we haven't and.
- 7:53Speaker 1: We haven't played an O D show in.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Australia this year, and it's really nice to think, Okay,
- 7:58Speaker 2: the first show sorry, no, correct, I'm wrong saying that
- 8:01Speaker 2: we actually did with the data and then supporting men
- 8:03Speaker 2: in Brisbane.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And that was an excellent show.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And so we get to return to sold out Brisbon
- 8:07Speaker 2: trol of our own and that's a very special theme.
- 8:09Speaker 2: That's the only show you know that we've played. So
- 8:11Speaker 2: it really does feel like the first first shows first
- 8:14Speaker 2: too obvious year, and yeah, Brisbane's always been really great
- 8:18Speaker 2: to us, and that's going to be a ripping show
- 8:20Speaker 2: to kick things off. And then yeah, we make our
- 8:23Speaker 2: way down the coast and kind of do the Jaker
- 8:26Speaker 2: down to Sydney, Melbourne and then Adelaide.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It's going to be it's going to be read.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But yeah, so final final warning on all the tickets,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I think, yeah, a couple of them. As I said,
- 8:36Speaker 2: venue upgrades and sold out, there's only there's only sort
- 8:39Speaker 2: of I think ten tickets remaining.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Nice work, but it's a good time, thank you, right,
- 8:49Speaker 1: So just.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Say, say some blokes can dragged along the shows by
- 8:52Speaker 3: his missus or the other way around, and they don't
- 8:55Speaker 3: know too much about how you grave what two songs
- 8:57Speaker 3: off eature release?
- 8:58Speaker 4: Should they listen to you first?
- 9:00Speaker 2: You know?
- 9:00Speaker 4: So I don't know what to expect.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So they do, or they don't know what to expect.
- 9:08Speaker 3: They do know, Yeah, like they come along, They've got
- 9:10Speaker 3: no idea.
- 9:11Speaker 4: They're just there to make their partner happy. What what
- 9:13Speaker 4: what two songs could they prepare with?
- 9:15Speaker 1: With you having it for great fans too, it is,
- 9:20Speaker 1: but I would say that life Safe bet.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And what we've been selling on this to are in
- 9:29Speaker 2: terms of our vinyl has been Odd.
- 9:33Speaker 1: World and Slip Phone Fantasy.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Now that's in terms of they're coming to a live
- 9:39Speaker 2: show and what to expect. It's at the moment, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 2: a nice marriage.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Of those two albums.
- 9:46Speaker 2: We do still play tracks from other albums and reference
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know. So we've only got thirty minutes you know
- 9:50Speaker 2: on this on this particular run, so we're really trying
- 9:53Speaker 2: to cram in as much as we can each night.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And it seemed to be connecting and a lot of
- 9:56Speaker 2: people coming out and sort of thinking like, oh, like
- 9:58Speaker 2: you know, I was aware of this album, but I wasn't.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I wasn't aware that you were the same band that
- 10:03Speaker 2: did that album, because each album has changed from one
- 10:06Speaker 2: to the next, and so many different stories of where
- 10:10Speaker 2: chronologically people have jumped on. As I said, some waiting
- 10:12Speaker 2: ten years since the Black Label, some that have listened
- 10:15Speaker 2: to us for the first time in the car on
- 10:16Speaker 2: the way to the show, and they're going, wow, fuck,
- 10:20Speaker 2: I love this, like give me a CD, like you've
- 10:22Speaker 2: got CDs like unreal, And so I would say those
- 10:26Speaker 2: two right now anyway, that's all I can go off,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and it's it seems to be connecting with the audience
- 10:31Speaker 2: over here.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And and.
- 10:35Speaker 2: No, no, don't get me wrong, I like an album
- 10:38Speaker 2: like the Rhapsody Shapes is up there for for me
- 10:41Speaker 2: as one of the you know, most most proud things
- 10:43Speaker 2: I have created with friends. And so there's there's lots
- 10:47Speaker 2: of elements, cities, but right now that that would be
- 10:49Speaker 2: my response.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Nice never rutten out of time, bro.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So I get to cut a few questions because I've
- 10:55Speaker 3: got a new segment that I've never done with you before.
- 10:57Speaker 4: It's a new segment. Let's go photo bomb.
- 11:01Speaker 3: So basically before we had a chat. I've gone through
- 11:03Speaker 3: social media. I found a couple of photos I want
- 11:05Speaker 3: to know a little bit more about. So I've got
- 11:08Speaker 3: this one here.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Mate.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You were you're listening to my Twitter last time? I
- 11:11Speaker 1: remember that.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, well I've gone deeper this type.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yea, you got deeper, You've got a level deeper.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 11:19Speaker 1: All right?
- 11:19Speaker 3: So first and first, who the fuck let Melbourne supporter
- 11:23Speaker 3: on stage?
- 11:27Speaker 4: Ah?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Is that? Is that a direct jig? Are you?
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh?
- 11:31Speaker 4: There is?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Sorry, I'm looking at the photo now.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I was like, what are you talking about?
- 11:35Speaker 1: Mate? Rob the great Man? Robbed? You brought that up?
- 11:38Speaker 1: That is iconic, Chris? Yeah? Is he not doing a shoey?
- 11:41Speaker 2: But a had he out of that hat?
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:42Speaker 1: There you go.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Look tweet's foreigner and Rob he got around the deep
- 11:46Speaker 2: and might I say, I am, I'm so happy to
- 11:50Speaker 2: see that best lub in the league. I'm a des fan,
- 11:56Speaker 2: throw on two seam of the Red and Blue and
- 11:58Speaker 2: that is why today I'm like Cubs red and blue?
- 12:02Speaker 1: How could I say no?
- 12:04Speaker 4: And he's doing a hattie? You got a shoey?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely? Yeah? Correct you on that one?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, this is all right, Now.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Life on the raid. Life on the raid can be
- 12:21Speaker 4: pretty hard, mate.
- 12:21Speaker 3: But if you guys ever have to resort to sleeping
- 12:24Speaker 3: like this again, let have you know and we'll sell
- 12:26Speaker 3: off some sign merch to get you somewhere better.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Okay, let's go, let's go. That's yeah, that's not where
- 12:34Speaker 1: we're sleeping. We brilliant.
- 12:38Speaker 2: So we parked up, we pucked up. We're on the
- 12:40Speaker 2: way to We're in Arizona. We're on the way to
- 12:43Speaker 2: uh the Grand Canyon. And we we stopped at this
- 12:47Speaker 2: yes dead or off off the side of the highway,
- 12:50Speaker 2: and the sun was rising, the moon was setting, full
- 12:53Speaker 2: moon was setting, and there was this own part that
- 12:55Speaker 2: looked like it was going into infinity. It was quite mantiful,
- 12:58Speaker 2: and the mountains were pink and perfle in the sky
- 13:00Speaker 2: was orange and tangerine, and it was like, I've just
- 13:04Speaker 2: been working up. I only had thirty minutes sleep in
- 13:06Speaker 2: the first maun of sleep, this whole two of that
- 13:08Speaker 2: I've had and and it was just it was like
- 13:10Speaker 2: a fever dream.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It was fighting tredible.
- 13:12Speaker 2: And all these photos taken in putting this one of
- 13:14Speaker 2: the lad just hanging out in a bit of a Wasteland.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Said, lads, all right, they're back. Yeah, yeah, boys, what
- 13:30Speaker 5: d that's naughty?
- 13:33Speaker 2: I know, Jesus, Jesus, probably for a buddy book.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I got you all right.
- 13:42Speaker 3: All right, well you go back to your game, brother,
- 13:46Speaker 3: but thanks so much for your time mate the tour.
- 13:48Speaker 3: The tour does kick off here on by the twenty
- 13:52Speaker 3: thirty Brisbane. Now am I going to come along and
- 13:54Speaker 3: say today if I can get into the sould house,
