- 0:11Hello and welcome. You're listening to Galaxy
- 0:14Crashes, the Busted and McFly podcast.
- 0:17The only podcast for the 2 worlds of Busted and McFly
- 0:20Collide. Hosted by us 2 mums who just
- 0:23bloody love McFly and Busted. I'm Sham.
- 0:27And I'm Tay and coming up today, we're talking teenage crushes
- 0:30and approval from family members because it's Mcfly's down by the
- 0:34lake. So how has your week been?
- 0:37I've heard it's been eventful so please share.
- 0:40Yeah, it's been OK to be honest. It's been fine.
- 0:43Nothing really to report back about.
- 0:46I've had it's my solo week of parenting this week.
- 0:49So we've had like lots of park visits, lots of movie nights,
- 0:54lots of crafting. We actually, we built this pink
- 0:58fairy castle thing out of toilet rolls.
- 1:02Oh, it was pretty cool. So.
- 1:03Sweet. Yeah, we got like a a set from
- 1:07the works and we just like expanded on it with toilet
- 1:10rolls. It was really.
- 1:10Cool, I bet they absolutely love that.
- 1:13Yeah, we love. We love a good craft.
- 1:15We love the works we do. We love a good.
- 1:17Craft. It's one of my.
- 1:18Favourite shops? Yeah, I know.
- 1:20Tell me about it. It's brilliant.
- 1:22And they're just like ready for hours.
- 1:24So yeah, it was lovely. Not not much else really.
- 1:28Lots of my week has literally been sponsored by Disney Plus
- 1:31and Netflix. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:34I am really disappointed in myself though because I
- 1:36completely binge watched Bridgeton in two evenings.
- 1:39Oh my, finished it. Yeah, goodness.
- 1:42How could you? To be fair, I'm so bad at
- 1:44bingeing, but because I obviously have to share the TV
- 1:47with Jack, I can only watch Bridgeton when he's not here and
- 1:50I'm on my own, and that doesn't happen very often.
- 1:52So I really can't. I can't binge there.
- 1:54Yeah, that's what I mean. It's been my solo week so I've
- 1:57Oh my. Gosh, fair play to you.
- 1:59I didn't even. Know.
- 2:01I didn't know that the second series, I didn't know when the
- 2:04second series, second part of the series was coming out.
- 2:08So it's been a nice surprise knowing that I've got it to
- 2:10watch. So I'm very excited about that.
- 2:13Well, I didn't watch the first part.
- 2:14I saved it all until the second part came out because I did not
- 2:18like, I didn't want to wait. So I saved it all and I was
- 2:22like, oh, I'll watch one episode a night and it'll be lovely.
- 2:24So much such thank you. Oh well, I was going to say you
- 2:27have so much self-control for waiting to watch the first part,
- 2:30but then you watched it all in two.
- 2:32Even so, maybe not. Well, I think it's 'cause
- 2:34there's been such a big gap in between last season and this
- 2:36season that like waiting a little bit longer, didn't feel
- 2:40too much. Too bad.
- 2:41But then once I start, it's like opening a bag tube of Pringles.
- 2:46I just. Couldn't stop, I just could not
- 2:48stop. And I feel like every time
- 2:50there's a new season comes out and like the basic season on a
- 2:54new main character, don't they? And I just feel like I like
- 2:57attach myself to that character straight away.
- 3:00I just absolutely love Benedict. I think he's, I think the series
- 3:04is good. It's very like old school
- 3:09Cinderella story vibes, you know, like the masks and like
- 3:12all of that. I love that so much.
- 3:14But I am and always will be a Jonathan Bailey Stan.
- 3:18Season 2 and three, Well, my absolute favourites I think.
- 3:23There wasn't enough of him this season.
- 3:24No Oh my God and I love season 3 as well because I love Penelope.
- 3:28I think her character it's insane but I definitely will
- 3:34never ever forget Anthony and Kate.
- 3:37They were definitely my favourite season.
- 3:40I, I really loved Penelope as well.
- 3:43She's that's my favourite season, but there's something
- 3:46about this season I've seen a lot of negativity about it
- 3:48online saying it just doesn't hit the way Bridgeton should and
- 3:52I think it's completely uncalled for.
- 3:54Oh. My God, yeah.
- 3:55I know it like it does follow that like Cinderelli,
- 3:59Cinderellary esque kind of thing.
- 4:02But I just think it's brilliant and I love Benedict.
- 4:06I think he's so kind. He's such a sweetheart.
- 4:08He's just like he's he's the guy that you want your daughter to
- 4:14be with. Do you know what I mean?
- 4:16Absolutely. Not his like, not his like F boy
- 4:20like past like. He's got a very sketchy past for
- 4:24the the tonne would not approve of his past.
- 4:28But to the woman he loves, he is the most wonderful man.
- 4:33Oh, he's so I just think he's lovely, yeah.
- 4:36It's nice seeing him to get him get a chance now as well at Love
- 4:39'cause he's obviously been in the background for for all of
- 4:41the seasons, hasn't he? So it's nice to see, yeah, that
- 4:44it's his turn. Anyway, I suppose we should stop
- 4:46talking about Bridgeton because this is a Busted a McFly podcast
- 4:49and not a Bridgeton. Very true.
- 4:51I mean, I mean, you know, it could be.
- 4:54It could be. Anyway, how's your week been?
- 4:58Yeah, it's been OK. I'm looking forward to this
- 5:00weekend because I'm going to binge the whole of frigiton so
- 5:02I'm very. Excited.
- 5:04There we go. Jack's away this weekend, so
- 5:06I'll be on my own in the evenings watching what I want to
- 5:10watch on the telly, which is quite nice because he hates all
- 5:12the things that I want to watch. Like we we watch this like he
- 5:15picks good things for us to watch.
- 5:16But I love a chick flick and I love something girly and I love
- 5:20like all of that sort of stuff and he hates all of that.
- 5:22So obviously it's not his thing. But this week gone, I on
- 5:27Saturday went to no Sunday. I went to market just as a
- 5:30buyer, which was really nice because they never do that.
- 5:34I always, I'm always the person selling.
- 5:37So it's really nice to go as a buyer with my friend Sophie who
- 5:41has her own little crystal jewellery business as well.
- 5:44So we went on the hunt for some bargains.
- 5:46We found a few as well, which was nice and met a really lovely
- 5:50lady who was like selling off the last of her crystal stock.
- 5:53She's closing her shop down, so yeah, I've got some new stock,
- 5:57which is good. And yeah, just been working just
- 5:59back to school and back on supply.
- 6:01I went back to my old school where I used to work today, so
- 6:04that was nice. I go back every now and again
- 6:07when they need someone, I'm like, Oh yeah, go and then I'll
- 6:09do it. So I was in two different
- 6:10classes today as ATA, so it's quite nice.
- 6:12Yeah, I enjoyed it. It's been a good week.
- 6:14I love that one. And Saturday was actually sunny
- 6:17for the first time in like, ages.
- 6:19And I remember you saying, Annie, you were like, oh, you
- 6:21said it's raining and I'm going for a run in the sun.
- 6:23I was just like, I hate. You Yeah.
- 6:26So, so listen, Saturday was so Saturday was so up here.
- 6:31It was lovely. So me and my friend Danny
- 6:32planned to go for a run yesterday in Sidmouth along the
- 6:36beach. The beach, the loop of the sea
- 6:41front is like 1K. And we were like, let's just
- 6:44keep going until we've run out of steam.
- 6:48The wind. We did 1K.
- 6:51That's all we did because we were like, but we just gave up.
- 6:55We were like, this is not the one.
- 6:56The wind, the rain, the the amount I'm a mouth breather.
- 7:00When I ran, the amount of salt in my mouth, in my mouth, I was
- 7:05literally running like this because I was trying to get out
- 7:09the way of all the waves hitting me in the face and I wasn't on
- 7:12the beach. So yeah, it was awful.
- 7:15And then today it was sunny again.
- 7:17I was like, oh, of course, of course it's sunny.
- 7:19It was sunny on Saturday morning and Marley and I went to a
- 7:23birthday party in a soft play. So we spent all morning until
- 7:27half 12 in a soft play and then by the afternoon it just clouded
- 7:30over. So I was like ohh.
- 7:33The only piece of sun in the last what, 50 something days?
- 7:36I know it was really lovely though, and actually it was a
- 7:38soft play I didn't know existed, so now I know that there's a
- 7:40soft play not. Oh, there we go.
- 7:42It's only literally like 10 minutes.
- 7:43Great. Education for a parent.
- 7:45There you go. So yeah, it was quite good.
- 7:47I'll I'll definitely remember that for future future visits
- 7:50when we've got nothing else to do and it's pissing down with
- 7:52rain. So yeah, overall, not a bad
- 7:55week. It's time for this, all that.
- 8:00Indeed, this is a segment that we do every single week because
- 8:03we love it so much and we never run out of ideas.
- 8:05So it's a pretty good one. This week we've gone for
- 8:08nostalgia because we keep trying to decide whether we do like
- 8:12McFly versus Busted or McFly songs versus McFly songs or
- 8:16members versus members or. But we thought we'd go a little
- 8:20bit different this week and we have got a very interesting new
- 8:23news segment coming later on that it goes well with.
- 8:26So this is our naughties nostalgia.
- 8:29This or that I will. Should I do mine for you first?
- 8:32Yeah, you do yours. OK, OK, I'm so ready for these
- 8:36OK Cinderella story or Lizzie McGuire movie.
- 8:44So hard. What?
- 8:46How can you do that to me? Sing to me, Paulo.
- 8:52Oh, Isabella, I think I would choose a Cinderella story.
- 8:59But oh wait, no, I really love the Liz McGuire movie, but I
- 9:07think I quote the Cinderella story at least once a week since
- 9:10it came out. Waiting for you.
- 9:14It's like waiting for rain in this drought.
- 9:18Useless, useless. Disappointing.
- 9:21Yeah. I think I'd choose your
- 9:23Cinderella story also because like, it ignited this thing in
- 9:28me where for like 5 whole years of my life I wanted to be a
- 9:32roller skating waitress. Oh my God, the dream.
- 9:36The Dream. Also also, it made me appreciate
- 9:39Stiffler's mum in a whole different light.
- 9:43Yeah, I think actually she wins it, however.
- 9:46Such a good actress I love. Her.
- 9:48I think she's crazy. McGuire Movie is so good you've
- 9:51you've stumped me. Mrs Mrs Ungermeyer.
- 9:56Ungermeyer, Gordo Gordo I had a fat crush on Gordo growing up.
- 10:03I feel he wasn't even attractive.
- 10:05No, he was like the dorky, like best friend who was obviously
- 10:08totally in love with her. And he was.
- 10:09She was just, yeah. Oh, so good.
- 10:13Yeah, I think I'm going to Cinderella Story.
- 10:14I'm going to. I'm going to lock it in and
- 10:16probably change it in the next half an hour.
- 10:18Yeah, you'll decide later, though you've chosen the.
- 10:20I would agree, though I think the Cinderella story is just one
- 10:24of those. It's Chad Michael Murray, mate.
- 10:26Oh my God, It just doesn't change.
- 10:28It just doesn't. It's like a freaky Friday.
- 10:31Like, you know, like those like old school.
- 10:33I mean, he's in that as well. Maybe it's just a Chad Michael
- 10:36Murray thing. Chad Michael Murray Chad Michael
- 10:38Murray. The next one probably shouldn't
- 10:41go into too much detail about this because occasionally my mum
- 10:43cheques in on this podcast, but in the naughties and early 10s
- 10:46so I used to spend a lot of time with my friends on Omegle and
- 10:49Chat roulette. So here your this or that is
- 10:52Omegle or Chat roulette. Are you having flashbacks of
- 10:58memory so bad? Do you?
- 11:01Remember when we went on Omegle and we found like other
- 11:05flatmates? Like they were like other people
- 11:08on our course, also on Omegle. God knows.
- 11:11And you were doing, we were doing the fringe.
- 11:14We were like. Oh, that's the knives Fringe.
- 11:17You. Know, it's really funny.
- 11:18I found my old Flickr account. So because I'm a teacher,
- 11:22obviously I have to, like, I have to make sure that the
- 11:24things that go up online about me aren't like bad because I'm a
- 11:27teacher. And like, not that I've got a
- 11:29lot of things that are bad, but when I was younger, I did
- 11:31photography and I took some photos.
- 11:34Why I did fashion photography. So I was really interested in
- 11:36fashion. I did a lingerie photo shoot of
- 11:39a load of models in the forest, right?
- 11:42So on my Flickr account, when you type my name into Google and
- 11:45my old name, Taylor J Blake, it comes up with all of my old
- 11:49Flickr photos. There's a load of people in the
- 11:51forest in their underwear. So I had to e-mail Flickr to ask
- 11:57them to try to delete my account because I can't log in.
- 12:00I've had a bit of a nightmare with that, but it it definitely
- 12:04took me back because one of the girls, bless her name best bless
- 12:07her heart, her name's Jess. She's so lovely.
- 12:10She she was absolutely beautiful.
- 12:12She had a proper full for it, like a size fringe.
- 12:17And in the photo, it literally starts like over here.
- 12:20And I looked at it and I just just remembered us just taking
- 12:23the piss out of that fringe that we used to do all the.
- 12:25Time, my idol it was. So good.
- 12:28It was so funny, but it was we just did it.
- 12:31Why did we do it? What was what was about?
- 12:33I don't know what it. Was I used to have a proper for
- 12:35like it would curl along my eyebrows and sometimes I would
- 12:41like clip it there with like a bow.
- 12:43I can remember the photos of. Cine green.
- 12:46Cine green. OK, go then, Omegle.
- 12:50Omegle because I'm going to say Omegle because I've probably
- 12:53because I've seen less penises on Omegle than I have on track.
- 12:55Roulette. Really.
- 12:58Are you sure it's? Every other on chat real it's
- 13:02really not OK do you know what we.
- 13:05Used to go and. Then skip anyway, so it was
- 13:08never like it was just awful like and it wasn't until you
- 13:11found somebody that was like fun.
- 13:13Actually, you would have a laugh, wouldn't you, with some
- 13:15every now and again you'd meet like a group of people that your
- 13:18own age and you were like then you'd be like laughing and
- 13:21joking and it would actually be quite funny.
- 13:22But the Oh my God, so many penis. 90% of the time penis.
- 13:29OK, final, final. This will happen today,
- 13:34Christina or Brittany. So this is an easy one for me.
- 13:41Battle of the NE Queens. This is a really easy one for me
- 13:45because I liked Christina Aguilera, I liked Jean in a
- 13:49Bottle. I like What a Girl Wants.
- 13:51That's like anthem. That should be in our new
- 13:53segment, That Song, But I was Britney bitch till I die.
- 14:00Oh yeah. I was so Britney.
- 14:02I was the girl that was on my bed pretending I was in the
- 14:05lucky video. I I was born to make that song
- 14:09born to make you happy. That song so good.
- 14:13Born to make you happy will be at my funeral like I was Britney
- 14:19hard that was born to make you so good.
- 14:26I love it. Easy one for me, Lush.
- 14:28OK, I think I agree. What's your choice of that one?
- 14:31Yeah, I think I agree. I think I I equally loved
- 14:33Christina, but I do feel like Christina Aguilera had a bit of
- 14:36an air about her that I sort of felt like she thought she was
- 14:39just so much better than everyone at everything.
- 14:41Yeah, she was a bit snobby, wasn't she?
- 14:43And I think like. Yeah, I was.
- 14:45I didn't see her dirty Christina Aguilera.
- 14:47I was into like, what a girl wants Christina.
- 14:50Every, not every time. What was the Oh hurt, do you
- 14:53remember that one that she did in the the circus theme 1 I
- 14:57loved. That one.
- 14:58And I am am beautiful. I am beautiful.
- 15:02Mean Girls, yes, but I do feel like she had that energy.
- 15:07I felt like she was like the mean girl, kind of like.
- 15:10Like I wouldn't. Have got so she wouldn't have
- 15:11been my friend, you know what I mean?
- 15:13Not if she wasn't famous, she would not have been my friend as
- 15:15I feel like Brittany was a bit more like sweethearty and like,
- 15:18you know, she was just sweet, wasn't she?
- 15:20And then she was then life. Life ruined her after that.
- 15:23Bless her all. Free Britney, She's back.
- 15:25The Free Britney movement. She's back.
- 15:28It's all good. Yeah.
- 15:28Go on then. I'll let you you do yours.
- 15:30I'm very excited. OK, so mine for you.
- 15:33First one. First out of the three.
- 15:36It's a very serious one in my eyes.
- 15:37Very serious. OK, Chad Michael Murray or Jesse
- 15:42McCartney. Oh my God.
- 15:46Brilliant. I chose Cinderella Story and you
- 15:48chose Chad. Yeah.
- 15:50I was thinking about him, Michael.
- 15:51Murray I'm always thinking about Chad Michael Murray.
- 15:54Oh, so an easy one. Because as much as I love Jesse
- 15:57McCartney, no way is he going to beat Chad Michael Murray in any
- 16:00way. Because I was.
- 16:01Saying no. Beautiful.
- 16:02Soul. Oh my God, I was obsessed with
- 16:06him. One tree here Are you are you
- 16:08joking me? I lived for that.
- 16:11Show me and. My.
- 16:12Old Lucas, Lucas Scott, me and my old best friend Holly.
- 16:15We used to literally binge Wandry Hill at our house.
- 16:17Like if I went over for a sleepover it was just on
- 16:19constantly. Like that's so funny because I
- 16:22didn't know if you'd so my original 1 was not Chad Michael
- 16:25Roy versus Chess McCartney. I didn't know if you'd seen
- 16:28Wandry Hill because my question originally was Lucas versus
- 16:31Nathan. Oh, easy answer.
- 16:35Are you Lucas? Oh, always.
- 16:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nathan.
- 16:38I don't like Nathan. He was a Dick in the end.
- 16:40He turned into a Dick. I was just like, well, not in
- 16:42the end, but like halfway through.
- 16:44He turned a bit dickish, didn't he?
- 16:48I was always a Peyton girl and Holly was always a Brook girl.
- 16:53And we were like, so Peyton I. Loved Peyton I I met a girl met
- 16:59a girl at school called Peyton. Peyton Peyton.
- 17:02One of the girls in the class I was in today was called Peyton
- 17:04and I was like great name. Do you have a 30 year old
- 17:08mother? Yeah, she probably does, not
- 17:10going to lie, because she's like 7, so she probably don't go.
- 17:14Yeah, exactly. That's probably where it came
- 17:16from. Great question.
- 17:17Yeah. Love Jesse McCartney, but no way
- 17:19has he ever been Chad Michael Murray.
- 17:21Sorry. Not at all.
- 17:22OK so my first one, my second one is so MSN personal message
- 17:29area filled with like song lyrics and cryptic messages
- 17:33about your crush or your BIBO top 16 and like your
- 17:39personalised skins. Oh.
- 17:41That's really hard because I definitely had both and I was
- 17:45like, I used to do all the little emojis in your MSN name
- 17:48and like BFF and then their initials and like LOML.
- 17:56All right, Taylor Swift. Still repping her 30 years
- 18:01later. I I think it probably would go
- 18:06BIBO because I did love MSN and I was so much about MSN in the
- 18:10evening when I got home from school.
- 18:11Like I stray on MSN, talk to my friends.
- 18:13I feel like it was more about the conversations on MSN whereas
- 18:16with BIBO I wanted my BIBO to look nice.
- 18:19Yeah, you wanted people to write on your wall so everyone else
- 18:22could see it. I.
- 18:23Wanted people to send me their love, OK?
- 18:27I want another half. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:31My other half on the boat was two people, not at the same time
- 18:36obviously, but the first one was a very emo guy called Sam, well
- 18:40SJ. His name was SJ and he was from
- 18:44Cornwall but lived in Scotland and he was a friend of mine, one
- 18:46of my best friends at the time and I never actually met him but
- 18:50he was like my online boyfriend. I feel like we all had one of
- 18:55those. We used to face like like video
- 18:57call all the time. And he had when that all came
- 19:00out, he had like the sweepiest like dark black hair that was
- 19:06like always like across his face and like dark eyeliner.
- 19:09And he used to wear like chains and like sweatpants.
- 19:13I love that I had one really cool 14 Glen.
- 19:16Oh, love that Glen. Glen.
- 19:20And I had the. My second one was Taylor
- 19:24Naughtner. Oh yeah, the real one.
- 19:27Yeah, yeah, yeah. I swear down, I swear down and
- 19:31people are going to listen to this and be like, Taylor, are
- 19:33you OK? I genuinely believed that I was
- 19:38speaking to Taylor Nortner for quite a long time.
- 19:41Wow, wow. To the point.
- 19:43I mean, if he married you, he'd still be in the same situation,
- 19:46Taylor. In my head I was like, well, he
- 19:48loved me and I'm Taylor. He loved Taylor Swift and she's
- 19:51Taylor, and now his new wife's called Taylor, so it might have
- 19:53been him. He's got a type.
- 19:58I could remember him giving me a the phone number of his best
- 20:04friend who was a girl who was an American girl, and she used to
- 20:09ring me. After school we used to chat.
- 20:13I wonder. I wonder whose account it was?
- 20:18Chatting to this random girl about Taylor Lautner like
- 20:21thinking that he. Was five years later you would
- 20:23have been on an episode of Catfish Mate.
- 20:26It was that bad? Like what is wrong with me?
- 20:29Why did I think I was? Speaking that is bad.
- 20:32I mean, I was 14, so, you know, anything could happen at 14.
- 20:35Well, there we go. And this is back before, like,
- 20:39verification and stuff. Do you know what I mean?
- 20:40Like, there was no like, yeah, ticks back then.
- 20:43We didn't. Oh.
- 20:43Yeah, I used to talk to, I used to talk to Lil Chris all the
- 20:47time. Don't worry about it.
- 20:48Oh, Lil Chris. Oh.
- 20:50Yeah, Lil Chris. Well, my answer to that would
- 20:54have been, I mean, I think it would be Bebo, but MSN, do you
- 20:59know, I loved MSN so much that I didn't doubt my computer was
- 21:03really old because it was like the family computer and I
- 21:07couldn't download colour. MSN, you know, when you've got
- 21:10like colour in your like description.
- 21:13So I googled the code to put in my to put in my.
- 21:21Dedication. So that people thought it was
- 21:24colour. And I would.
- 21:25Come across colour on their computer, but on mine black and
- 21:29white it was. Just a load of words it was.
- 21:31Like it was like 83379 dot dot hash.
- 21:38Hashtag F6. Some kind of my chemical.
- 21:41I'm on till I die. Love her, Josh.
- 21:44Love her. Oh my.
- 21:46God, I had a a blog play a blog page.
- 21:51What was the old blog site called?
- 21:53Can you remember? Can you remember where we used
- 21:57to like blog stuff? Oh.
- 22:02No, I'm. Going to have to find out what
- 22:04it was called but my blog site name like username was the My
- 22:08Chemical Romance lyric. I'm here for that.
- 22:11I live for that. It was the one about what?
- 22:16About the girl, was it so long and goodnight?
- 22:19No, it was the the gun. It has something about a gun.
- 22:25I can't remember, but I'll, I'll remember it later and I'll tell
- 22:27you because it was like Blogspot or something like Blogspot.
- 22:32Oh. No, that doesn't.
- 22:34Feel that rings a bell, but it just was like a.
- 22:37Blog where we would just like all go and like just write
- 22:40absolute crap about our days and stories and stuff, you know,
- 22:43like, you know, like where you would go to read like fan
- 22:46fiction now. It was a bit like that.
- 22:48I was just about to say, was it what pad?
- 22:51No. Is that when you used to do a
- 22:53blog, didn't you? My blog wasn't on what pad?
- 22:56What pads? Like fanfic?
- 22:58What was your I? Used to write on WordPress.
- 23:02No, it wasn't WordPress. It said something like blog in
- 23:04it. I'm sure it did.
- 23:06I can't remember, but I used to love that place.
- 23:09I love that. OK, you got one more for me.
- 23:12OK, yeah, my last one for you is photo booth strips.
- 23:17You know, like the strips that you get or webcam selfies.
- 23:23Oh God, that's an easy one for me because I'm not a webcam
- 23:25selfie kind of girl. I'm so awkward even just doing
- 23:29this because you know me. We're just audio and this is
- 23:33weird, very uncomfortable. I don't know where to look.
- 23:37Do I look at myself? Do I look at you?
- 23:38Do I look at this? Like the screen?
- 23:40What do I do? Do I look at the camera?
- 23:42Hello everyone. It's weird.
- 23:43Do you know what I mean? It's definitely a photo booth.
- 23:46I love a photo booth strip. I've still got a photo booth
- 23:49strip of me, you and Autumn upstairs and.
- 23:52Autumn was my living. Room Autumn was so small and
- 23:54I've got, I think it's in a book, I think I've put it in a
- 23:56like in one of my journals and every time I like come across
- 23:59it, I'm like, oh so cute. We need to do a new one with all
- 24:02three of us, or I mean all three of the kids.
- 24:04Yeah, all three of the kids and us.
- 24:06Yeah, definitely. That would be so cute.
- 24:08Love that. What about you?
- 24:08Are you a webcam selfie kind of girl like?
- 24:14Well, now I would like a cool kid.
- 24:21This is what the kids do now, isn't it?
- 24:22They do like. Yeah, it is great.
- 24:26Now, I would say 100% photo booth, right?
- 24:30Because I think they just look really like, I don't know, I
- 24:32just love them and they, you can't take them at home, can
- 24:36you? You, you take them when you're
- 24:38doing something nice and you walk past a photo booth and
- 24:40you're like, oh, let's go. Do you know what I mean?
- 24:41It's memory with every phobic picture, but when I was of the
- 24:45era of these, this or that, I was full on fringe head down.
- 24:55Serious face, I'm picturing it. Your photo really high.
- 25:02A lot of your photos on like Facebook and stuff were like
- 25:04like when we first met and I like to scroll back.
- 25:06We were 18 when we first met. So obviously we were like out of
- 25:09the like emo phase, but like still like had photos of.
- 25:13That not a phase mom. I can remember, I can remember a
- 25:17photo and all you can see is like your eye.
- 25:20Yeah. It's just your hair.
- 25:22And then you're like doing, you're doing like.
- 25:25This. Yeah, yeah, just like that part.
- 25:29Yeah, I always used to cut an eye off.
- 25:30I don't know why it's. Just the eye.
- 25:33Just the eye. Just cut the eye off.
- 25:35I mean, we've all been there. Let's face it, we were all
- 25:37teenagers once and we all made some very interesting choices.
- 25:40So it's fine. It's all good.
- 25:42We're living. We're living through.
- 25:43We were living through the naughties together.
- 25:45That's what counted together. It's time for McFly says the
- 25:52Game, where we read out a quote from each band member and the
- 25:55other person has to match them up.
- 25:57So this week, Shannon, I have 5 quotes for you.
- 26:01I know there's only four band members, but I thought I found
- 26:04five and I thought, oh, I might keep that one because maybe then
- 26:07you'll just have to work out who is it that I've chosen to put on
- 26:10twice? OK.
- 26:12Does that make sense? Yes, OK I'm so bad at these and
- 26:15now you're giving me an extra 1. Yeah, but I I don't know, I
- 26:19think you might be OK with this. There's a couple that I think
- 26:21make a bit more sense than others.
- 26:25OK, we'll just give it a go. We'll see how it goes.
- 26:27Are you ready? So this first, this first quote
- 26:31was discussing the film. Just my luck.
- 26:34The band member says we were sporting one of our least
- 26:38desirable looks in that film. He laughs.
- 26:41There we were with a platform to be a really big band in America,
- 26:45but we looked horrific. We had mullets and an
- 26:49exclamation point. Oh, is that a?
- 26:53Is that a hint? A Rooney.
- 26:55No, that was just a quote. Oh, OK.
- 26:59I'm not giving you any hints, I'm going to read them all.
- 27:03Definitely did have a mullet. You'll go through them all, and
- 27:06then you can go back and choose which one you want to do.
- 27:08Do it that way. Yeah.
- 27:10OK. Second one.
- 27:11So this was talking about their hiatus and their comeback.
- 27:14And it was talked about in an interview and about how, like,
- 27:18the rest brought a fresh energy back to them all.
- 27:21So this quote is, we are better than ever now.
- 27:25Things need to stop for it to repair.
- 27:27And then you bring your best. Then you bring your best to what
- 27:30your band is. OK.
- 27:34OK, next one. I mean, I'm nearly 38 now and
- 27:39forevermore I don't see us as a boy band.
- 27:42And that was them talking about their musical evolution from
- 27:45being boy band to pop rock band. OK, next one.
- 27:54All these layers build up. It's men not talking really.
- 27:58And this was them talking about group therapy and communication
- 28:02challenges during hard periods for them.
- 28:04Oh, interesting. OK.
- 28:07And then finally, the last 1234. Yeah, there is five.
- 28:12Sorry, just double checking. Last one is an interview quote
- 28:16from Digital Spy. I should have been sorry.
- 28:20I should have a novelty best man, like somebody I don't
- 28:23really know. Just so nobody gets offended.
- 28:25I think I'll go out into the street blindfolded and the first
- 28:28guy I touch can be my best man. I feel like I've read that quote
- 28:32somewhere, but I don't know which one.
- 28:40I am flabbergasted. I have no clue.
- 28:46Difficult. It is difficult.
- 28:51I think I'm going to say all these layers could be Danny.
- 29:00He spoke a lot about mental health after he came out of the
- 29:04jungle because he spoke a lot about it then, so I'm probably
- 29:09going to put him down for that. OK.
- 29:13Who is nearly 38? I mean, this could have been
- 29:17from years ago, so it could be any of them.
- 29:21I don't know when this quote got on.
- 29:22This quote was. It's not like A and brand new
- 29:25quote. I'm going to say that's Dougie.
- 29:29I feel like I'm nearly. 38 now and forever more.
- 29:34I don't see us as a boy band. Yeah, I feel like Dougie of all
- 29:41of them probably doesn't want to be called a boy band.
- 29:44OK. Maybe I'm I'm awful at this.
- 29:51Any more ideas? What about the first one?
- 30:02Well, I want to say Harry because he actually had a
- 30:06mullet. He.
- 30:08Definitely did. I'm thinking did Tom, what did
- 30:12he just? I don't.
- 30:13Know whether I, I don't know whether I would class Tom's hair
- 30:16as a mullet. I mean, I know Dougie had sort
- 30:18of like a log in the back, party in the back, business in the
- 30:21front kind of hairstyle, which I suppose could have been classes.
- 30:24And Tom's hair was kind of mullity, but I wouldn't say it
- 30:27was the same as Harry's. I'm going to say Harry.
- 30:31I'm probably completely wrong. I feel like he had a lot of
- 30:34press about just my luck because of the him and Lindsay Lohan
- 30:37situation. Yes, indeed, you are right about
- 30:42that situation. Yes, things need to stop for it
- 30:45to repair. And then you bring your best to
- 30:47what the band is. I've got no clue, Tom.
- 30:53OK. And then I'm going to say, I'm
- 30:56going to say Dougie for the last one again, I've.
- 31:00Got everyone Dougie. Dougie Yeah.
- 31:06Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:07OK, OK. Are you ready for your answers?
- 31:15Number one was Harry. Well done, Harry Judge.
- 31:21Yay. I did.
- 31:22I kept the the mullet line in because I thought it might give
- 31:26you a little bit of leniency because I thought if I stopped
- 31:28it because I was going to stop it.
- 31:29We looked at horrific and then I was like is the mullet line
- 31:32going to give it away? Then I was like, I'll give it to
- 31:34her because if she gets 0 again, she might quit the job that
- 31:37we're doing right now and I. Probably would, so that's fine.
- 31:40You've saved me. OK #2 we're better than ever
- 31:43right now. Things need to stop for it to
- 31:44repair and then you bring back your best to what your band is.
- 31:49So this was actually Danny. Oh my goodness.
- 31:56OK. Yeah, that's fair.
- 31:58I thought was quite nice. Yeah, I like that.
- 32:02That's fair. Yeah, yeah, but you went for
- 32:04Tom. So unfortunately that one was
- 32:06not correct. I mean, I'm nearly 38 now and
- 32:11forevermore I don't see as a boy band.
- 32:14This was Tom I think you when you were saying like you don't
- 32:18think dog Dougie would like to. Why do I keep trying to call him
- 32:21doggy? I keep saying doggy when you
- 32:25were saying about how you think he would not want them to be in
- 32:28a boy band. I think that I think that was so
- 32:30Tom as well, like Tom really. And I remember reading a lot
- 32:33about Tom, like, not like right now, but I like over the years
- 32:38of how he wanted to get away from like the pop side of it and
- 32:41like the West Line and the boy zone and like all of that.
- 32:45So I thought that was a little bit more obvious, but obviously
- 32:47not. So nothing for that one.
- 32:51But you're right, you've still got one out of three so far.
- 32:53OK, I got the mullet. It's fine.
- 32:55Yeah, all these layers build up. It's men not talking, really.
- 33:00This was actually Harry, so I. Was choosing between Harry?
- 33:08Yeah. Oh, in my head I was thinking
- 33:12it's either Harry or Danny, because I know Danny spoke a lot
- 33:15about mental health, but also Harry did that whole book called
- 33:19was it? The book was literally called
- 33:20Happy, right? Yeah.
- 33:22Yeah, I think or something like that.
- 33:23And he spoke about the love of mental health around that as
- 33:26well. So yeah, yeah, I was in between
- 33:292:00. Nothing for that one, I'm
- 33:30afraid. And finally, I should have a
- 33:32novelty best man like somebody I don't really know.
- 33:34Just so nobody gets offended. It was Dougie.
- 33:36Well done. So you got two out of five.
- 33:40I'm not sure you can say smashed it, but you did OK.
- 33:42As if I'm saying smashed it out for two out of five, but I'll
- 33:46take it. A win's a win.
- 33:47It's confident even though. Confident majority is lost.
- 33:52It's all good. So, yeah.
- 33:54And I thought they were quite interesting quotes, really.
- 33:55So, yeah, hope you enjoyed those.
- 33:57Yeah. They were, they were good ones.
- 33:58They weren't like silly ones, They were good ones.
- 34:00Well, sometimes it's nice to have funny and sometimes it's
- 34:03nice to actually talk about them in a deeper way because they are
- 34:06human beings and not just eye candy and great voices at the
- 34:09end of the day. So it's nice to talk about them
- 34:11as human beings and the thought of things that they they talk
- 34:13about in their interviews I think can be quite interesting
- 34:16and deep. So we're sharing that with all
- 34:17of you as well. It's time for Song of the Week.
- 34:25Right, I'm really excited for this one, so let's get into it.
- 34:28This week's Song of the Week is Down by the Lake By the Fly.
- 34:42It is. I'm not going to give away my
- 34:44rating, but I feel like the enthusiasm I have for this song
- 34:48has been probably the most enthusiasm I've had in this
- 34:50whole podcast. So unmatched.
- 34:53Unmatched. What's your rating?
- 34:56So I love this song. I think it's full of energy.
- 35:00I really like that it, it makes me feel like I'm back at school
- 35:03and like, you know, they talk about like sneaking around and
- 35:06like, you know, when you wouldn't like tell your parents
- 35:08everything because you know, you're dating something that
- 35:11maybe they wouldn't approve of or something like that.
- 35:13I just really. Like with a star on his foot.
- 35:16Yeah, well, yeah, in my in mine, it was someone with a Citroen
- 35:19Saxo that was four years older than me.
- 35:20But you know, it's fine, it's all good.
- 35:24Same thing. So yeah, I really quite like it.
- 35:27I I'm going to give it a 7.5, A 7.5.
- 35:32It's not like my favourite McFly song.
- 35:34I think this album is a good album, but I have better albums
- 35:38and but it is a good one on this album definitely, for sure.
- 35:41So yeah, 7.5 from me. What about you, 10?
- 35:44Out of 10 mate. 10 out of 10. 10 out of 10 finally happens.
- 35:51Finally happened. We got a 10 out of 10 for a
- 35:54recorded version, not a live version from Shannon.
- 35:57Yeah, in the end, babes, go on then tell us I love about.
- 36:00There in the end, I just think it's it has Esri, Esri, every
- 36:05aspect that I look for in a McFly song.
- 36:09It's got the storytelling, it's got the fun, it's got some of
- 36:12the vocals, it's got the harmonies.
- 36:14Even that, even though it's fun, it's so well sung, harmonised,
- 36:20told like I can see myself, I this is the one song on the
- 36:25album I wish had a music video because I can see.
- 36:28Sad it would be so. I can see it in like I can see
- 36:33it in American Pie. Do you know what I mean?
- 36:35Like I can see it in like a really like a comedy based.
- 36:39Teeny movie. 90s teen movie yeah I.
- 36:43Think coming of age. There are no I have no slates to
- 36:48any of the lyrics. Absolutely.
- 36:49No notes. Absolutely no.
- 36:50Notes. Like literally no notes.
- 36:52Yeah, they are good. It's just, I'm like reading
- 36:54through the lyrics now because I've got them in front of me and
- 36:56I just think it's just so good. It's just.
- 37:00I like the I like the bridge where they're talking about the
- 37:04bridge recently and. I like the guitar solo.
- 37:07Yeah, definitely so. Good.
- 37:09Told him once I liked him but I lied.
- 37:11Yes, that bit. That's it.
- 37:13Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I love it.
- 37:14And I think it's so like, I think we've probably all dated
- 37:18somebody that our parents don't approve of at some point.
- 37:21You know, like they the parents, parents, they, you know, they,
- 37:23they, they love us for who we are and they want the best for
- 37:26us, obviously, but we don't always choose the best, so.
- 37:29You know, sometimes we. Like to make bad choices.
- 37:32But you know what? I just love, you know how I was
- 37:34saying a couple of weeks ago about how like, how dare James
- 37:38Bond look the way he did and say things like, how can you leave
- 37:41me here unseen to. I love the fact that Tom
- 37:45Fletcher has written this song being Tom Fletcher, and he's
- 37:49like saw the star on my foot and the way I behaved like my friend
- 37:55you, you are a Gold Star student.
- 37:58Grade A handing your homework in on time, keeping up with the
- 38:03after school clubs for extra credit.
- 38:05Like, yeah, right. Like he said I looked pretty.
- 38:10He said I looked pretty cute, but I don't got the grades.
- 38:13I've seen the star on my foot and the way I behaved, and we're
- 38:16better off when daddy's out of town.
- 38:18Are you? I'm sorry, you are the model
- 38:21like. Model student.
- 38:23But then we say that. Do you think he do you think he
- 38:26was? Do you think he like when we
- 38:27because we don't actually know. I feel like we have these like
- 38:31ideas of of what they were like when they were really young.
- 38:33Because obviously when we like they came out, they were in at
- 38:3617. Obviously they'd already done
- 38:37school and stuff like we were at school, weren't we?
- 38:40We you know, we're like 5-6 years younger than so we were
- 38:42the ones that were like at school and going through all of
- 38:44that. Actually, do you think because
- 38:46they went to Sylvia Young, Tom went to Sylvia Young as well,
- 38:49didn't he? With Jay?
- 38:51He was, he was like a proper, they were McFly were like busted
- 38:57with the alcohol, McFly with the weed.
- 39:00Yeah, very true. I heard that in an interview.
- 39:02I think it was. Yeah, I think it was an on the
- 39:05mend. On the mend, Yeah.
- 39:07Oh, it was with it. Was Dougie's Dougie's episode
- 39:10with Matt on On the Mend? The first ever On the Mend
- 39:12episode was with Dougie and they.
- 39:13Were when he spoke about the police coming over.
- 39:15Yeah, yeah, yeah. And how they found a flesh stuck
- 39:17to the ceiling. Yeah.
- 39:21But still, I think even if he had that, I think even if Tom
- 39:26had that kind of personality with his, with the lads, I don't
- 39:29think he genuinely don't think he'd be like that in front of
- 39:31the girl he likes or the girl he likes.
- 39:33Dad. I just think it's so funny.
- 39:35But yeah, I think, and also I've seen this band upwards of 30
- 39:40times live. I've never seen the song live.
- 39:43Yeah, I know I've I've been I've seen them half the amount of
- 39:45times of you and I definitely haven't.
- 39:47So it's it would be so good to hear some of these old school,
- 39:52you know, ones that just but I think the problem is people
- 39:54don't know it. Like I think unless you are like
- 39:57a bit more of a dedicated fan, it's this one wasn't overplayed
- 40:01on the radio. It wasn't something that you
- 40:03would hear, you know, them seeing live very often.
- 40:05So unless you were a stand for the album, it really isn't
- 40:08something that that people would know, if that makes sense.
- 40:12In my opinion, this song brings the album up.
- 40:15So I think this is one of my This isn't like a top album for
- 40:19me, but overall it is a high rated album.
- 40:22Even though the songs individually I I don't rate very
- 40:26highly as a whole, I think the album is so nostalgic for me
- 40:31that I I can't rate it low and it's 4 songs like this.
- 40:34I've got 100% properly, like, oh, surfer babes not alone.
- 40:39Yeah, like we can't. Yeah, Yeah, exactly.
- 40:42And in general, the album is very good.
- 40:44Yeah, I think. I think, like I said, it's about
- 40:48the ones that were overplayed, I think are the ones that are the
- 40:50skip songs. It's the same you think about
- 40:53like Taylor Swift and stuff like actually, songs like Shake It
- 40:56Off and like Cruel Summer and You know, are great, are good
- 40:59songs in their own right. But I don't listen to them in
- 41:01the car. I skip them because I hit.
- 41:03I've heard them so many times that I'm like, I don't want to
- 41:06listen. To them, I'm 100% with you.
- 41:08Yeah, so when I This is why I don't listen to the radio,
- 41:11because I listen to Archie. I'll let you in on a secret.
- 41:13I listen to magic musicals in the car.
- 41:17So so I've got Arya my 4 year old saying Alexa play magic
- 41:23because I either listen to Magic where it's 90% Ronan Keating
- 41:27when you say nothing at all, or Magic musicals.
- 41:32Magic Musicals is my favourite. I love it so much because like
- 41:35that is, that is how songs die a death.
- 41:37I think they get overplayed. And I say this to Jack all the
- 41:39time. Like he's got some great music
- 41:41taste. He listens to some loads of
- 41:43diverse songs, but he's very much into like his country kind
- 41:46of style at the moment. He listens to like I did listen
- 41:48to like Noah Khan and like Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, like
- 41:52those sort of Zach Bryan, like those sort of people and I
- 41:55really appreciate them. I really like that music.
- 41:57I love to listen to him in the car.
- 41:59My problem is he plays the same song over and over.
- 42:05Jack is your version of Radio 1. Every time I get in the car, I
- 42:08could tell you now what he's going to put on straight away.
- 42:10It's Zach Bryan featuring some woman, and it's called Madeline
- 42:12and he's going to play it on the way up and on the way back from
- 42:15wherever we're going. Not, not the Lily.
- 42:19Allen, Madeleine. No, not that one.
- 42:21Madeleine. Who the fuck is Madeleine?
- 42:23No, definitely not that one. And you know what?
- 42:25It's a really nice song, but I've heard it so many times that
- 42:28now when it comes. Along I'm like overplayed.
- 42:31Yeah, is. Your Radio 1 Jack is your Radio
- 42:331. Exactly.
- 42:34I think that's what it is. I think radio does sort of dumb
- 42:37things down a bit, which is why I think I've got appreciation
- 42:39for songs like this. I also feel like there's a bit
- 42:41of a parallel between this and Saturday Night.
- 42:43Do you feel like it's got a little bit of the same vibes?
- 42:45Yeah, 100%. Yeah.
- 42:46I think I read that quite highly as well.
- 42:48But also, I want to pull you up on this, Taylor, OK?
- 42:51Because you're, you're telling me one thing, but we all know
- 42:58your number one song. Well, maybe not number one.
- 43:01Star Girl is the most overplayed song I've ever had in my entire
- 43:03life. Shannon I cannot I there is
- 43:06nothing in my physical body, mentally, spiritually that I
- 43:12could say bad about. Star Girl.
- 43:13I fucking love that song. Well, I said everything wrong
- 43:18about it without saying the word Star Girl.
- 43:20It's overplayed. Yes, it's yes, it's overplayed.
- 43:23It is overplayed. That is the only thing.
- 43:24It's overplayed. But it's a storytelling.
- 43:27Soul is when I'm. Upbeat.
- 43:29It's amazing live, like there's everything about it is just
- 43:34amazing. I love that song so much, the
- 43:35music, the instrumental bit, like how can that not make you
- 43:41happy? Do you know what I mean?
- 43:42The best thing about Star Girl is when I'm walking around Asda
- 43:45and it suddenly comes on, then I am doing the Star Girl kicks
- 43:48down the aisle. Up and down.
- 43:49The aisle, I'm not, I'm not, I don't put it on.
- 43:53And it's for the exact reasons you just said it's because it's
- 43:56overplayed. It's it's like I am such a album
- 44:01track girl. No, I am, but I, I Star Girl is
- 44:05not. It will always be #1 for me.
- 44:07Do you know what it is? Album shows to people that I'm
- 44:09an album track girl because I've rate yeah so low, but it's
- 44:13because. It's.
- 44:13Because most of this album was released as singles.
- 44:17Well, the first half of the album was released as singles
- 44:20because it was their first album.
- 44:22Yeah, exactly. I think for, for me, star girl,
- 44:25I have like like vivid memories of, of Starker or when I was
- 44:29younger, but I also used to listen to it when I got to like
- 44:31my mid 20s. They used to play it every
- 44:34Friday, maybe early 20s used to play it every Friday on the on
- 44:37Radio 1 and it was like the going home songs.
- 44:40Yeah, on Friday and like. Friday.
- 44:43I used to wait for Friday and I could not wait to put bloody
- 44:46Radio One on on the way home from work because it was just
- 44:49the best thing ever. Chris Moyles was the breakfast
- 44:52show. So on a Friday morning Chris
- 44:55Moyles. Chris Moyles would put it on a
- 44:57Friday morning on the breakfast. Maybe it was a morning, it might
- 45:00have been on the way to work, I can't remember that was on the
- 45:02way or on the way home, but I just remember being on route
- 45:06from or to work in the car and every time, every Friday coming
- 45:09on and it was just the best thing ever.
- 45:11I used to love it. Yeah, I used to listen to it on
- 45:13the bus. So I used to get a double Decker
- 45:15to college and I would sit on the top of the double Decker and
- 45:19I would listen to it. Me and my friend Lisa would
- 45:21share headphones, and they were wired ones back then because I'm
- 45:24old. And we would share them on the
- 45:28back seat of the double Decker. And we would listen to Chris
- 45:32Moyles's McFly Friday every single Friday, even though we
- 45:35had an iPod shuffle, so we could have just put Sagal on it
- 45:39anytime. Anyway, I love that so much, the
- 45:43things we do for McFly, hey. Exactly.
- 45:48New segment alert. Oh yeah, the lost songs of the
- 45:54naughties. This is where we revive the
- 45:56absolute bangers that deserve their flowers.
- 46:00Do you know what right this this idea came to me today because I
- 46:04got in the car today and I was looking for like a new playlist,
- 46:09something just, you know, a bit different.
- 46:11And I've obviously been looking at naughties and 10s sort of
- 46:14style music for a while. We've been talking about them
- 46:17and stuff. And I found a naughties playlist
- 46:20and I clicked on it and Oh my God, it was the best 20 minutes
- 46:22of my life in that car. I didn't want it to end.
- 46:25I did not want it to end. It did the songs that were
- 46:28coming out. I was like, this is phenomenal.
- 46:31So I was immediately like, right, that's it.
- 46:33New segment on the podcast. Every week we're doing lost
- 46:36songs and the noise because there's so many songs.
- 46:38And yeah, it's just going to be a quick 5 minutes at the end of
- 46:40the podcast because this is a McFly and Busted podcast.
- 46:43But we know that majority of people that appreciate McFly and
- 46:47Busted are our age, born in 90s, grew up in the noughties and
- 46:51know that they like the same sort of music as us.
- 46:54So we think you will appreciate this.
- 46:56So this week. 100%. Because of everything that's
- 46:59going on online and the tour that this notorious Queen is
- 47:03doing at the moment, we've decided to talk about the Queen
- 47:06of lost songs herself, Miss Hilary Duff.
- 47:09I don't want to talk about this tour.
- 47:11Thank you. I'm so sad because I genuinely
- 47:13really want to. I looked and I looked and I
- 47:17looked and I every single day. Taylor is on a fucking school
- 47:22day. Weekday.
- 47:23Yeah, I know. And this is exactly what I
- 47:25asked. That I can get to.
- 47:27I asked Tasha if she wanted to go as well because she was like,
- 47:29should we go and see Hilary Duff?
- 47:30And I was like, it's all in the week.
- 47:31Like how are we supposed to do it?
- 47:33Like with work, Like we can't, you know, and it's limited.
- 47:36Obviously she's not. She's only in certain places and
- 47:39it's big cities as well. So it's far for us to travel,
- 47:42but because we can't go to tour, we're going to do a little
- 47:45segment about her instead. So we've been today when I was
- 47:50in the car, the song that came on that that literally it came
- 47:55on on shuffle and I just lost my shit was fly.
- 48:00Now I can remember. Oh my God, I think it was on one
- 48:04of her movies. I can't remember which one it
- 48:06was on, but it was in the background of one of her movies.
- 48:10And I remember learning this song when I was younger, like to
- 48:13sing. And I remember being in my
- 48:16sister's bedroom in Bristol. And it was like in the summer
- 48:19holidays because I would spend half the summer with my mum in
- 48:21Cornwall and half the summer with my dad in Bristol.
- 48:23And I was, I would play this off my sister's little stereo in the
- 48:27in her bedroom and just stand in the mirror and like, sing it.
- 48:30I love that that's just. Like vivid memory of me singing
- 48:34this song, Oh my God, it's so good and the lyrics were so
- 48:38beautiful. I can just remember the
- 48:40beginning. She says in a moment, everything
- 48:43can change and like, and she talks about how like you, you
- 48:50need to be able to express yourself and spread your wings
- 48:53and be who you want to be because life can change so
- 48:56quickly and like, you need to be able to open up and fly and
- 48:59spread your wings. And I just think, Oh my God, it
- 49:01was such a beautiful song and so well written.
- 49:05And actually her voice isn't like the most phenomenal voice
- 49:09out there. You know, we can't compare her
- 49:11to, well, you know, you can't compare her to the the big like
- 49:15Beyoncé and you know, that sort of stuff.
- 49:17But I mean, I don't listen to Beyoncé.
- 49:18So you know, there's that. And I think Taylor Swift, Taylor
- 49:21Swift is very similar. She's not like the best vocalist
- 49:24of all time, but she's a performer and she's a writer.
- 49:28And I think the same for Hilary Duff.
- 49:29I think she just sings with a lot of emotion and I really, I
- 49:32just love her her the song she's written up.
- 49:35I think it's very. Soft and it's very like.
- 49:37Beautiful. Very soft.
- 49:38It's very like pop Princess. It's very.
- 49:44Emotional pop Princess though, you know, it's very emotional
- 49:48pop Princess. It's not.
- 49:49This is where dreams are made of.
- 49:51Do you know what I mean? We all love that.
- 49:53And it's not even like wake up is very wake up.
- 49:56Wake up. Like fly is so different.
- 49:59Fly is so emotional. I feel like it was on.
- 50:02It was probably on like Raise Your Voice or something that had
- 50:06a bit of a sad. Oh, what a movie.
- 50:09Oh my. Gosh, that film, Oh my God, I
- 50:11used to cry so much of that film because it was just so sad.
- 50:15So, so good and like relatable, I think for a lot of people that
- 50:19were trying to make it or trying to get into like music or
- 50:23theatre or that sort of stuff. But like the whole thing with
- 50:25her brother and Oh my God, it was just like so heartbreaking.
- 50:28But the songs in that show, Oh my God, because the last song,
- 50:33obviously that she sings in that film is Someone's Watching Over
- 50:36Me, which is another absolute emotional roller coaster.
- 50:41Roller coaster, Yeah. Literally.
- 50:44But then you go to songs like anywhere but here.
- 50:47Why not wake up? Like all of these songs are so
- 50:51like you said, they're very like pop Princess but like in a
- 50:53really cool like like almost like Oh yeah style.
- 50:57Do you know what I mean? Like in your like late 20s and
- 51:00it's OK to appreciate. Wake Up was like Wake Up was my
- 51:02jam. I was saying to Taylor early
- 51:05when we decided to to listen to when we decided to talk about
- 51:08Hilary Duff. I was saying that the album that
- 51:11Wake Up was on, I used to listen to the whole album was the
- 51:14length of my auntie's house all the way to my then boyfriend's
- 51:18house. So I would listen to the whole
- 51:20album all the way there and I would stop outside her front
- 51:22door. I'd lock the door behind me and
- 51:24then I would get my iPod or whatever it was out, press play,
- 51:29and I'd wait until she started talking and then I would walk.
- 51:32That song was so that that song, I don't know what it is about.
- 51:37It's not even that great, but it's.
- 51:39Just it's just catchy. Cat.
- 51:42Yeah, it is. That's exactly it.
- 51:43It's catchy. It's an ear worm.
- 51:45It is is exactly everything that era of music represented.
- 51:50Yeah, exactly, 100%. It's very naughty, isn't it?
- 51:53Like, and, and I actually looking through the playlist
- 51:56that I was playing earlier, there's a running theme with
- 51:59actually the lyrics of a lot of the songs that were playing
- 52:02weren't that great, but they were really good songs.
- 52:05They were just really catchy. And the ones that did tell a
- 52:07story were good, like in the way that they like, like, do you
- 52:12remember? I don't want to bring them up
- 52:14because I know we really want to talk about them, but there were
- 52:16so many songs that I like, I would like.
- 52:18Do you remember Disturbia by Rihanna?
- 52:21Yes, I did. Oh my God.
- 52:25Oh my God, that you've just like ignited a memory in my brain.
- 52:29I for in performing arts when I was in college.
- 52:33Stop challenge, stop it. Didn't we do the same thing
- 52:36before we even met each other? Because I also used it in a
- 52:39performance. No, no, no.
- 52:41So it wasn't me. Our class did a mash up for
- 52:45Halloween. We did a what's it called when
- 52:49they're supposed when like people jump out the crowd Flash
- 52:53mob. We did a flash mob in the middle
- 52:54of our in the middle of our. College.
- 52:57I love that. Thriller and Disturbia mashed up
- 53:01together. Amazing, I did.
- 53:03Well, video of that somewhere. I you need to find that so I can
- 53:06see it, please. I for my drama GCSE we did a
- 53:11performance about being by a some a bipolar person.
- 53:15No, it wasn't bipolar. It was a schizophrenic or
- 53:19something like that. Someone with like mental health,
- 53:21like like split personality kind of thing.
- 53:24And it was really dramatic. And we used Disturbia because in
- 53:29the show I was like the, the inner voice of the person.
- 53:34So I played like the, the sort of devil on your shoulder kind
- 53:37of character. And the Disturbia scene was like
- 53:41a, it was like a dance like, but it was like a scene but like
- 53:47through the music, if that made sense.
- 53:48And I just remember like moving the main character was a guy
- 53:52called Ryan. I remember moving him round like
- 53:54a puppet and like doing a lot of like the dance moves.
- 53:57And it was like quite scary. We had like flashing stroke
- 53:59lights and like corners where there were shadows and like, it
- 54:02was really cool. I bet you any money if I watched
- 54:05it back now I'd be like, what on earth is this?
- 54:08What am I doing? But it was really good.
- 54:11But yeah, that, I mean, what a banger, Disturbia, what a tune
- 54:15like. But we're still talking,
- 54:17obviously, about Hilary Duff. And one thing I want to bring up
- 54:19before we close off for the evening is her new songs,
- 54:23because there's been a lot out and about about her new songs.
- 54:26I know you said earlier you haven't had a lot of time to,
- 54:29like, listen to any of her new stuff.
- 54:31Have you heard any of the stuff online or seen any of the bits
- 54:33online? I've listened to the first like
- 54:364 maybe tracks on the album and I've got very strong opinions
- 54:41about what's being talked about online.
- 54:43I'm not going. To go good.
- 54:44I'm glad because I have to. Shall we talk about it?
- 54:46Yeah, well, I feel, I just feel like when she was younger, she
- 54:50was like sexualized a bit because she was a very pretty
- 54:53young lady on Nicola or Disney Channel, sorry.
- 54:56And now she sings about sex and suddenly she's not allowed to.
- 55:00And I. Just Oh my God.
- 55:01Also because she's like 40 and they're like 04 year olds aren't
- 55:05allowed to sing about sex. What?
- 55:07What? How the fuck do you think she
- 55:08had kids? Like, yeah, are you, are you OK?
- 55:12She's she's you sexualized her when she's a child, then that's
- 55:16fine. But now she speaks about like,
- 55:20she doesn't even go into that much detail.
- 55:22There's like, it's literally. So mine, it's so minor.
- 55:26It's so minor. It's in roommates, isn't it?
- 55:29And there's another song called Mature that's also got something
- 55:32a little bit like the risque in it.
- 55:34I mean, Christ, for some of the songs that we hear on the radio
- 55:38that that are like just blanked out, I mean, there's some.
- 55:41Warehouse pussy. I was just about to say, can you
- 55:44remember WAP? Because the majority of that
- 55:47song was silence. Because they couldn't say any of
- 55:49the words. Yeah, but and that was.
- 55:52On the radio. The word head.
- 55:53And you're like, Oh my God, I generally heard that song.
- 55:57I heard the controversy before I heard the song.
- 55:59And my initial thought when I heard the song was, oh, it just
- 56:04sounds like she's trying to find a word to get to the next, like
- 56:07to get the rhyme. Do you know what I mean?
- 56:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's getting to the point, like
- 56:12she's got the point there, but she's trying to get the rhyme
- 56:14and it just fit really well. I didn't find it any like.
- 56:18I think it was a really good I think I think it was a really
- 56:22good song. And I think that if you actually
- 56:24think about what she's saying in that song, it is relatable to so
- 56:28many people. Do you know what I mean?
- 56:30Especially when you are a bit older and you have been married
- 56:33for a long time and you have got kids and like, everybody gets to
- 56:36that stage where, you know, maybe things aren't quite the
- 56:39way they were before. And that's not.
- 56:40I don't think that should be a bad thing to talk about.
- 56:43I think it's really. Sad the whole song.
- 56:45The whole song isn't about like, sex at all really.
- 56:49At all. It's about her relationship.
- 56:51It's called roommates. It's about becoming roommates
- 56:54with the person you love like. Love.
- 56:56Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 56:57Somebody that you absolutely adore, that you just end up like
- 57:00the things that you would do with somebody coexisting with.
- 57:02Yeah, exactly. The things you do with somebody
- 57:04you love compared to things you do with a roommate is very
- 57:06different, and I think that's the point that she's making.
- 57:09I think the line as well, she says.
- 57:12Did she say something like this is the bit that she was, that
- 57:17she was, that that was everywhere?
- 57:20Because she says touching myself by the front door, but you don't
- 57:23even look my way no more. And I think so many people
- 57:27focused on the first part of that line that they didn't hear
- 57:30the second part. A. 100%.
- 57:32I got goosebumps when I had that line.
- 57:35I like felt really emotional, but everybody was like
- 57:38disgusting. Why would you think are you
- 57:40taking the piss? That is so?
- 57:43What a fucking heart wrenching lyric.
- 57:45Like the lyricist says. She's begging for his attention.
- 57:48He doesn't care. He's.
- 57:49Not giving it to her. Oh my God, It's not about sex.
- 57:52It's about her, how she's feeling.
- 57:54She's feeling that she's not appreciated.
- 57:55She's feeling like she's standing right in front of him
- 57:58screaming that she loves him and she wants him and she wants all
- 58:00these things and she's not getting any of it.
- 58:02I mean, that's brutal. That's not the song isn't about
- 58:06that part of the line. It's about the message that
- 58:08she's trying to give and I'm so glad.
- 58:10That she's a woman, so she's not actually.
- 58:12Exactly, exactly. Say it louder for the people
- 58:16that can't hear you because I'm fucking absolutely advocate for
- 58:20this sort of stuff. It really winds me up.
- 58:22I think we're OK to to let our kids listen to listen to songs
- 58:26like WAP, but this is not OK. Really.
- 58:30Yeah. And also really it's because I
- 58:32think genuinely as well, it's because it's not a TikTok song
- 58:35because. And I know that's a little bit
- 58:37like, you know, everyone's trying to make music for TikTok
- 58:40these days. But for example, Pink Pony Club,
- 58:42which my 7 year old and four year old love, is about a
- 58:46stripper A. Stripper.
- 58:47Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 58:48Yeah. Can you remember Anaconda?
- 58:52Yeah. My Anaconda don't want some, my
- 58:55Anaconda don't want none. Unless you've got sponsors.
- 59:01Literally like these, like all these songs have been around for
- 59:04such a long time nobody makes a fuss about any of them.
- 59:07But one woman in her 40s says that she's just having a bit of
- 59:11a frig by the back door because she's a bit lonely.
- 59:14It's the end of the bloody world, do.
- 59:16You know what I mean? What's that?
- 59:18What's that lyric that we said about the other day that, like,
- 59:20fully freaked me out when I probably heard it?
- 59:22Something about erupting like a volcano.
- 59:24Oh. That was the.
- 59:25That's fine. Because Jason.
- 59:26Derulo, Jason Derülo. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah is.
- 59:29That oh, no, no, it wasn't Jason Derülo.
- 59:31It was the other one. The other. 10 Neat, not Neo.
- 59:35Makes very similar music. Yeah.
- 59:36Neo, Neo. Yeah, very similar music.
- 59:39Yeah, exactly. A dancy rappy R&B guy.
- 59:43Disgusting. I'm not okay with it.
- 59:45I think this world really needs to be shaken because they don't
- 59:49think about what music is actually about.
- 59:52They just want quick fixes and things that are catchy and not
- 59:55actually thinking about what is being written.
- 59:57That's the whole point of. Bradley says this to me.
- 1:00:00Bradley says this to me all the time.
- 1:00:01He says. I've got tip tock brain.
- 1:00:03Because I need things quick. I need things now.
- 1:00:06I need I like, I don't have any patience.
- 1:00:08I've got a tick tock brain because everything's short form
- 1:00:10content. But it's so true.
- 1:00:12And if I have that as a 32 year old, I cannot imagine how my
- 1:00:17child is going to be when she's my age.
- 1:00:19Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 1:00:21It's scary to think about, isn't it?
- 1:00:22Oh dear. Well, other than that, Hilary
- 1:00:28Duff. Hilary Duff, we love you.
- 1:00:30Keep going gal. And can you please attempt so
- 1:00:33yesterday? Exactly.
- 1:00:35And you can you please attempt to put some tour dates on a
- 1:00:37weekend so that us teachers and TAS can come, please?
- 1:00:39Because we'd really like to go and like.
- 1:00:41Relive our youth and be there with you.
- 1:00:43Yeah, I I am the girl. I'm, I'm the girl at the front
- 1:00:48row singing every lyric. I promise you.
- 1:00:50I just have a really adult job. Just have to be responsible in
- 1:00:55the weekday. I just I'm not allowed a day
- 1:00:58off. Do it in the half term holidays.
- 1:01:01That's great, that works. Yeah, that's fine.
- 1:01:02Why not in the half term holidays?
- 1:01:04Why not? Yes, I love it.
