- 0:09Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports for a Daily bringing you the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Saturday Sports show. Standing in for Adi Dawks, Who's away
- 0:15Speaker 1: on honeymoon somewhere exotic. I think it was a Dominican Republic.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. I love his theme songs. I
- 0:26Speaker 1: think I might nick it and swap it over with mine.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's really good. It's an old track. This is Booker
- 0:31Speaker 1: t and the MG's time is tight. Well. On today's
- 0:41Speaker 1: show we have a local cricket roundup. We've got news
- 0:44Speaker 1: about my weekend last weekend which included being a quiz
- 0:48Speaker 1: master for Amy Axon. I was the MC on the
- 0:54Speaker 1: mic at the Clifftop Challenge. Then on Sunday I was
- 1:00Speaker 1: on the mic at a race in mid Kent, lovely
- 1:04Speaker 1: rural Kent, Hawkhurst five ten k. Are we telling you
- 1:07Speaker 1: a bit about that? And we've got some news on
- 1:14Speaker 1: our England under twenty one football team who played Germany
- 1:17Speaker 1: in a final tonight England v Germany Final.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And we've had Eastbourne and next up it's Wimbledon. Wimbledon
- 1:34Speaker 1: starts on Monday. Are we telling you a bit about that? Now?
- 1:42Speaker 1: It's Glastonbury time, and believe it or not, all the
- 1:46Speaker 1: pictures I've seen of Glastonbury. It does look dry. I
- 1:50Speaker 1: mean I've never been there. Have you Have you had
- 1:54Speaker 1: a soaking? Have you left your tent behind? Well, Glastonbury
- 1:58Speaker 1: is just amazing festival. As I say, I've never been there,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but it just looks outstanding and this year, because it's
- 2:06Speaker 1: dry and not wet, it looks even better. So we're
- 2:09Speaker 1: going to start the show by playing a song that
- 2:12Speaker 1: will be heard I am sure at Glastonbury. And this
- 2:16Speaker 1: is by the Searchers. Now the Searchers are right. They
- 2:20Speaker 1: only our older listeners will remember the Searchers, but it's
- 2:23Speaker 1: going back to nineteen sixty three because it's the Searchers
- 2:27Speaker 1: farewell tour and it just so reminds me of my youth.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So sit back and enjoy it. Sweet for my sweet sweets, Sweet.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Your person, We kiss the well sweet.
- 2:55Speaker 1: As the Searchers there, they're doing their well tour at
- 3:02Speaker 1: Glastonbury this weekend. You know, we've we've said it before
- 3:06Speaker 1: in the past on this show that you hear a
- 3:08Speaker 1: song and it instantly takes you back to a place
- 3:11Speaker 1: in time. Well, that one took me back to my
- 3:15Speaker 1: youth when that was the first time I've really heard
- 3:18Speaker 1: that song. Was at a fair ground. It was dark,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the lights were shining and sparkling, the bumper cars were
- 3:25Speaker 1: going round and around, and the music was blasting out.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And it's just I was there. I was driving that
- 3:31Speaker 1: bumper car just now. Right, Well, this is the sports show.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So what we're going to do. We're going to start
- 3:37Speaker 1: with some cricket. Now, folks, folks on first eleven, they
- 3:41Speaker 1: traveled away this is last week, traveled away to Broadstairs,
- 3:45Speaker 1: Broadstairs Wonder Toss and decided to bat, making one hundred
- 3:48Speaker 1: and forty two all out. Folks on there made one
- 3:51Speaker 1: hundred and fifty six four eight, winning the game by
- 3:53Speaker 1: two wickets. Now, these two back to back winds have
- 3:56Speaker 1: pushed them up the table from ninth to fifth place.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And today see they welcome the third place, which the
- 4:03Speaker 1: ball to the three hills, and can they push up
- 4:06Speaker 1: even further? That is going to be a tough game
- 4:07Speaker 1: now if they're getting in the top half of the table. Now,
- 4:11Speaker 1: what I did notice looking at the scores, there's a
- 4:14Speaker 1: great website, PlayCricket dot com, and I get all my
- 4:18Speaker 1: information from there, and sometimes I read between the lines.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So who's scored the most runs? But what I never
- 4:25Speaker 1: really paid much attention to before is I look at
- 4:28Speaker 1: the score and just take it for granted. But there's
- 4:31Speaker 1: a lot of extras scored in a game of cricket.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So I decided to study the extras, just how many
- 4:38Speaker 1: teams concede in a game. So after the end of
- 4:42Speaker 1: each report on each club, I'm just going to give
- 4:44Speaker 1: you a little roundup of how many extras were scored
- 4:48Speaker 1: and what difference it might make to the final score.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So anyway, in that game, the extras conceded by Folkston
- 4:56Speaker 1: weren't too bad. They conceded two leg byers and one wide.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That's just three, and broad stairs they conceded twelve. There
- 5:06Speaker 1: was four buyers, seven wides and one no ball. Now,
- 5:10Speaker 1: extras can be made up of four things. There's a
- 5:12Speaker 1: buy where the ball just goes whizzing pass, doesn't touch anybody.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Might wicket keeper might miss it, there might not be
- 5:19Speaker 1: anybody beyond the wicket keeper, and it hits the boundary
- 5:24Speaker 1: four runs the leg buyers. When the ball hits any
- 5:27Speaker 1: part of the body doesn't have to be on the
- 5:28Speaker 1: leg side, any part of the body and goes flying
- 5:31Speaker 1: off somewhere might be just might get a couple of
- 5:33Speaker 1: runs well wide, Well that's self explanatory really down to
- 5:38Speaker 1: the bowl of that one. If the ref if the
- 5:42Speaker 1: umpire gives the arms outstretched wide, that's it another run gone.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And of course there's the no ball, which is where
- 5:49Speaker 1: the foot and the line. The umpires keeping an eye
- 5:52Speaker 1: on exactly where that goes. So but it's amazing. And
- 5:56Speaker 1: how many runs do you think was conceded the most
- 6:00Speaker 1: in these in these local games. It's just have a
- 6:03Speaker 1: little think about it and I'll let it tell you
- 6:05Speaker 1: very shortly. Now moving on to Hawkins where Hawkins lost
- 6:10Speaker 1: the toss at home to Willsborough. So Willsbro batted first,
- 6:13Speaker 1: making an impressive two hundred and six for seven in
- 6:16Speaker 1: their forty overs. Hawkins, however, rose to the challenge made
- 6:20Speaker 1: two hundred and ten for just three wickets. Ashu toss
- 6:23Speaker 1: dezmuk He scored one hundred and fifteen not out, so
- 6:27Speaker 1: they won the game by seven wickets, keeping them top
- 6:30Speaker 1: of Division eight in the Shepherd section. Today's game will
- 6:34Speaker 1: be well worth going to watch as is a local
- 6:36Speaker 1: derby against Hive and it's not only a local derby
- 6:39Speaker 1: but high the second so it should be a close encounter.
- 6:43Speaker 1: In this game, Willsboro conceded just eight extras, one leg
- 6:46Speaker 1: by seven wides, bowlers come on bowler straight line, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: Hawkins they gave away sixteen extras, seven buyers, four leg
- 6:55Speaker 1: buyers and five wides. Now, last week, Hive traveled to
- 7:00Speaker 1: Deal Victoria and Barnes close. They won the toss, elected
- 7:03Speaker 1: to bat and made one hundred and eighty two for six.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Highest scorer was Grant Channon who made seventy nine not out.
- 7:10Speaker 1: The Deal team were then bowled out for one hundred
- 7:12Speaker 1: and fifty four, so I've won the game by twenty
- 7:14Speaker 1: eight runs. During the game, the Deal team gave away
- 7:18Speaker 1: twenty four extras that was five buyers, five leg buys,
- 7:23Speaker 1: twelve wides and two no balls, and Hive gave away
- 7:27Speaker 1: twenty three four buyers, twelve leg buys, three wides and
- 7:34Speaker 1: four no balls. And as we said this week, it's
- 7:37Speaker 1: top of the table clash at the Grove as Hawkins
- 7:40Speaker 1: are the visitors and they start at one o'clock. Hive
- 7:45Speaker 1: Green were at home to Herne Bay. The Bay won
- 7:47Speaker 1: the toss and decided to bat, making two hundred and
- 7:50Speaker 1: thirty for eight. The Green could only manage one hundred
- 7:53Speaker 1: and eighty one for seven, so lost the game by
- 7:55Speaker 1: forty nine runs. The day, hive Green are away to
- 7:59Speaker 1: North Down, which means a trip to Margate and in
- 8:02Speaker 1: that game Iive Green gave away twenty seven extras and
- 8:07Speaker 1: Herne Bay conceded twenty nine. Saltward traveled away to play
- 8:11Speaker 1: Whitstablell thirty eleven. Siltwood won the toss, decided to bat
- 8:15Speaker 1: and made one hundred and ninety two all out. High
- 8:17Speaker 1: scorer was the captain Jack good In with sixty three
- 8:20Speaker 1: runs Whichtaball were then bowled out for one hundred and
- 8:23Speaker 1: fifty three, so sualt Wol won the game by thirty
- 8:26Speaker 1: nine runs. Still would I once to get away as
- 8:29Speaker 1: they traveled to Worth Cricket Club, Worth is Well, just
- 8:32Speaker 1: outside Deal. Actually the extras conceded in this game was
- 8:36Speaker 1: seventeen by Whitstaball and just ten by Saltwood. And finally
- 8:41Speaker 1: Sipton Park were at home to kings Hill, who won
- 8:44Speaker 1: the toss and decided to bat, making one hundred and
- 8:46Speaker 1: sixteen all out. The SIPs then made one hundred and
- 8:49Speaker 1: nineteen for two, winning the game by eight wickets. As
- 8:52Speaker 1: Sipton Park today once again at home, this time against
- 8:56Speaker 1: Tunbridge and this match Siptom Bowlers gave a way thirteen extras.
- 9:02Speaker 1: There wasn't all down to the bowlers to be fair.
- 9:04Speaker 1: There was one buyer, two leg buyers and ten wides.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Was kingzey Hill conceded twenty one extras at five buyers,
- 9:13Speaker 1: one leg buyer, twelve wides and three no balls. So extras,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean that's amazing that. I think that. Looking back,
- 9:21Speaker 1: the highest amount of extra that a team conceded was
- 9:25Speaker 1: Herne Bay and there's twenty nine nearly thirty runs on
- 9:28Speaker 1: top of the opponent's total, so that could well make
- 9:32Speaker 1: a difference in the final score. Well, this weekend the
- 9:36Speaker 1: weather look looks fine. It's rain free, sunny intervals, so
- 9:41Speaker 1: we should get a full set of under uninterrupted games
- 9:44Speaker 1: to play. Now I've been contacting most of the local
- 9:48Speaker 1: cricket clubs. I will try and get round to all
- 9:50Speaker 1: of them. We've had High Cricket Club in. We've got
- 9:53Speaker 1: promises of Sipton Park coming in and hive Green Cricket
- 9:57Speaker 1: Club coming in and we see what developed there and
- 10:00Speaker 1: I will be contacting the others. Oh yeah, Hawkins they
- 10:03Speaker 1: want to come in and so I'm trying to work
- 10:05Speaker 1: my way through all of our local teams so we
- 10:08Speaker 1: can get somebody in from each club before the season's over. Okay,
- 10:12Speaker 1: moving on now, time for some music. Now this is
- 10:14Speaker 1: from Razor Lights in the Morning and from the year
- 10:16Speaker 1: two thousand and six. Razor Lights two thousand and six.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You know you won't remember.
- 10:49Speaker 1: In the morning. You won't remember a thing. Anybody been there,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'll bet we all have. Anyway, we're going to go
- 10:55Speaker 1: straight onto another song now. I know this one is
- 10:57Speaker 1: a little question for you. Who sung the original one
- 11:00Speaker 1: of this song? This is the Pet Shop Boys and
- 11:02Speaker 1: Go West? This is a cover version. Who sung the original?
- 11:38Speaker 1: But that's the Pet Shop Boys version of a song?
- 11:43Speaker 1: They recorded that in nineteen ninety three, but it's called
- 11:46Speaker 1: Go West. So the thing is who recorded the original?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Do you know? Well? It's a classic group. Actually they
- 11:55Speaker 1: only made a few hit songs, but they made a
- 11:56Speaker 1: great impact back in nineteen seventy nine, and that of
- 12:00Speaker 1: course the Village People and always will be remembered for YMCA,
- 12:06Speaker 1: the one song that just gets everybody up on the
- 12:08Speaker 1: dance floor. Okay, so well, I'll tell you about my weekend.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Last weekend was one of the busiest I've had for
- 12:15Speaker 1: a long long time. It started on Friday evening when
- 12:19Speaker 1: I was a quiz master for Amy Akson and her
- 12:22Speaker 1: husband Henry. Now Amy is running the Chicago Marathon on
- 12:26Speaker 1: the twelfth of October and aims to raise two thousand
- 12:29Speaker 1: pound four against Breast Cancer Charity. This charity against Breast
- 12:35Speaker 1: Cancer are working to prevent secondary breast cancer by funding
- 12:39Speaker 1: unique research into the development of treatments. Now she's currently
- 12:44Speaker 1: raised one thousand, seven hundred and ninety pound of the
- 12:47Speaker 1: target of two thousand, and this was helped by whopping
- 12:51Speaker 1: nine hundred pound raised by the quiz on the night.
- 12:55Speaker 1: And as I say, I was a quiz master, and
- 12:57Speaker 1: sometimes a quiz master can be a tough old when
- 13:01Speaker 1: you've got sixty or seventy people all talking to each
- 13:06Speaker 1: other and getting louder and louder. But it was a
- 13:09Speaker 1: really fun evening. The questions were set by her husband
- 13:12Speaker 1: and a judicator, Henry. One or two caused a few issues,
- 13:16Speaker 1: but they always do a quiz, but it was in
- 13:18Speaker 1: good fun for a good cause. Now, as quizzes do,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I had to turn my volume up after the break,
- 13:25Speaker 1: but they were a really good crowd. And I love
- 13:27Speaker 1: the way they supported Amy. Let me just say that
- 13:30Speaker 1: Amy has to fund all her travel expenses herself, and
- 13:35Speaker 1: the money raise go straight to the charity. Now, one
- 13:38Speaker 1: particular table, Gary Brazier's table, and Darren Crewe and the
- 13:43Speaker 1: rest of them there from the folks running athletics club
- 13:46Speaker 1: were really winding me up. I tell you they were
- 13:48Speaker 1: pretending to big death, asking me could you repeat number
- 13:51Speaker 1: four please? Ol keV could you number four?
- 13:53Speaker 3: Please?
- 13:53Speaker 1: Could you repeat number four? I think they all went
- 13:56Speaker 1: deaf on the night, but it was all done in
- 13:59Speaker 1: good form. We will say that Gary and Marie run
- 14:01Speaker 1: their own little fundraiser for Amy. I think they raised
- 14:04Speaker 1: about six hundred pound where they had what they call
- 14:07Speaker 1: a home run. It means that they all gathered around
- 14:10Speaker 1: Gary and Marie's house and they run from the home
- 14:14Speaker 1: There there was forty odds and Marie was cooking bacon
- 14:18Speaker 1: butties and egg sandwiches and making pots of tea all
- 14:21Speaker 1: day long with forty people in her kitchen. So where
- 14:24Speaker 1: done to Gary and Marie once again for supporting Amy. Now,
- 14:29Speaker 1: quiz is a hard work. You know, you've got to
- 14:31Speaker 1: work out the questions, You've got to get the raffle prizes.
- 14:34Speaker 1: You might have to go round to local shops and
- 14:36Speaker 1: big bor and steal. There's loads of paperwork to do,
- 14:40Speaker 1: but it was an excellent venue. It was held at
- 14:42Speaker 1: the Three Hills and I'm sure everybody went home having
- 14:45Speaker 1: had a great fun evening knowing that they'd raised nine
- 14:48Speaker 1: hundred pounds to help Amy's charity against breast cancer. So
- 14:52Speaker 1: that was event number one. I'll be telling you about
- 14:55Speaker 1: event number two after this song from the Kings of
- 14:58Speaker 1: Leon m hm around Kings Leon last Use Somebody. You know.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I didn't know this song was called use Somebody. I
- 15:40Speaker 1: just thought it was called look Somebody. Now it was
- 15:42Speaker 1: written in black and white in front of me and
- 15:44Speaker 1: I hear it. U sort of misread lyrics. Oh dear
- 15:48Speaker 1: right now. Event number two. On my weekend, I was
- 15:52Speaker 1: at the cliff Top Challenge. Now the finish is in
- 15:55Speaker 1: the in Deal by the bandstand. Last year we were
- 15:58Speaker 1: dodging the rain all day, which was nice for the runners,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but this Saturday saw the hottest day of the year,
- 16:04Speaker 1: which was nice for the spectators but definitely not for
- 16:07Speaker 1: the runners. Now this event is the brainchild of Chantel
- 16:10Speaker 1: and Phil Rashbrook. I've said it before several times, but
- 16:14Speaker 1: just to remind you, Chantell is a real hero well
- 16:17Speaker 1: heroin really, isn't she. She race for Life many many
- 16:22Speaker 1: years ago, raising money for a friend of hers who
- 16:26Speaker 1: had breast cancer. She then contacted breast cancer herself was
- 16:32Speaker 1: a survivor. She contracted secondary breast cancer and she pulled
- 16:36Speaker 1: through that. And now she is just so active. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: this event has been put on and Saturday saw its
- 16:43Speaker 1: eleventh birthday. In the last ten years we've raised all
- 16:48Speaker 1: the people of Deal and the surrounding areas have weighed
- 16:51Speaker 1: a whopping two hundred thousand pounds for breast cancer nowt now.
- 16:55Speaker 1: The day itself was a buzzy day with a big
- 16:58Speaker 1: crowd really enjoying themselves in the sun, but we had
- 17:01Speaker 1: to spare a thought for the runners, many of whom
- 17:03Speaker 1: suffered in the heat. Nine runners from the Folkstone Club
- 17:06Speaker 1: took part. Clive Allen, Nikki Goodwin and Hillary Collins around
- 17:09Speaker 1: ten miles, Lisa Smith, Kate Lansfield, Diane Parsons, Simon Coffee
- 17:14Speaker 1: and Tony Scott ran fifteen and the brave Jenny Heathfield.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Now Jenny started at two o'clock in her first attempt
- 17:21Speaker 1: to run the ultra distance of fifty five miles, but
- 17:24Speaker 1: the heat of the day plus the organizer's concern for
- 17:27Speaker 1: Jenny's welfare, meant that the decision was made for Jenny
- 17:30Speaker 1: to step down. But please bear in mind at this
- 17:33Speaker 1: point when she stopped running, she'd run forty miles, so
- 17:38Speaker 1: it's still a fantastic achievement. Now. Was speaking to Jenny
- 17:42Speaker 1: afterwards at the finish, and she was really upset, really
- 17:45Speaker 1: choked up. But I'm sure now in reflection she will
- 17:48Speaker 1: know it was the right thing to do, and she
- 17:50Speaker 1: didn't give herself the credit she deserved, but she said
- 17:53Speaker 1: she's going to give it a go next year. Now.
- 17:56Speaker 1: There was one particular team that had been supporting this
- 17:59Speaker 1: event for many a day, and that's called Team Rembridge.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Lee Rembridge, I believe he lost his wife to breast
- 18:07Speaker 1: cancer many years ago and he has slowly put a
- 18:10Speaker 1: team together to run this event. And some of the
- 18:13Speaker 1: individuals do run some of the further distances, because you
- 18:18Speaker 1: can run fifty five, thirty six, twenty six, fifteen, ten
- 18:24Speaker 1: or five miles, but most of Team Rembridge just choose
- 18:28Speaker 1: the five because they range all ages and all standards.
- 18:34Speaker 1: If you like but what they did. They all got
- 18:38Speaker 1: together just about two hundred yards from the finish and
- 18:42Speaker 1: then they all came in together and it was such
- 18:45Speaker 1: an awesome sight seeing this team for all the kids
- 18:49Speaker 1: were charging in, absolutely loving it. The music was turned up,
- 18:53Speaker 1: the people were standing up clapping them, and this team, Rembridge.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I said to Lee after we were we were on
- 19:00Speaker 1: on the near the band stand on the slope there
- 19:02Speaker 1: having an interview so that all the people could hear him,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and I said to the how many in your team?
- 19:09Speaker 4: Lee?
- 19:09Speaker 1: And he said, well, there should have been one hundred
- 19:13Speaker 1: and seven in the team, but only one hundred could
- 19:16Speaker 1: make it today, So one hundred runners he'd got together.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So a fantastic word down to you team, Rerienbridge. And
- 19:24Speaker 1: so that was the day of the cliff Top Challenge
- 19:28Speaker 1: and looking forward to already, and hats off go to
- 19:32Speaker 1: Phil and Chantelle because they're on holiday at the moment,
- 19:34Speaker 1: having a well deserved break. But as soon as they
- 19:36Speaker 1: get back, I know they will be planning for next year.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And I've just made a little note to myself here
- 19:42Speaker 1: actually staying with running. On Sunday, the thirteenth of July,
- 19:47Speaker 1: it's the Radna Park Junior Park runs first anniversary has
- 19:50Speaker 1: been going a whole year now, So if you get
- 19:53Speaker 1: a minute, get up there and just have a look
- 19:55Speaker 1: at it. If you've never seen it before. It's a
- 19:57Speaker 1: great morning. That's nine o'clock every nin every Sunday at
- 20:01Speaker 1: nine o'clock at Radna Park. Okay, so time ever, a
- 20:04Speaker 1: bit of music and let's have a little bit of a.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Robbie Robbie Williams.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Rocket.
- 20:37Speaker 1: It's rather abruptly though, one doesn't it right. So the
- 20:41Speaker 1: third event for me was on Sunday, and now this
- 20:44Speaker 1: was my first visit to Hawkhurst. There was a five
- 20:47Speaker 1: k in a ten k. Hawkhurst is sort of up
- 20:49Speaker 1: near Goudhurst up that way and the very lovely rural
- 20:53Speaker 1: part of Kent. It attracted two hundred and two runners
- 20:57Speaker 1: in the ten k plus one hundred and one runners
- 20:59Speaker 1: in the five k, along with two well attended children's
- 21:03Speaker 1: races and a great warm up by Gabriella of so
- 21:06Speaker 1: Reader Fitness which most of the runners joined in and
- 21:08Speaker 1: had a great time. Now, this race was perhaps perhaps
- 21:12Speaker 1: a little bit too far away for some of our
- 21:14Speaker 1: local athletes, but I did spot two dover road runners,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Carla and Michael Lander. And I must say, Michael, you're
- 21:21Speaker 1: improving so much every race and it won't be long
- 21:23Speaker 1: before you're catching Carla. And I also called in Anthony
- 21:27Speaker 1: Anseil from a deal tri club. Most of the runners
- 21:30Speaker 1: were kind of from the North Kent clubs, but there's
- 21:34Speaker 1: a good turnout and you know, it was the definite
- 21:37Speaker 1: village feel about this one, with loads of local sponsors.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And I found out a little bit about a group
- 21:42Speaker 1: called the Friends of Hawkhurst. Now they bring together the
- 21:46Speaker 1: Hawkers community with events and projects to help make Hawkcurst
- 21:49Speaker 1: a great priest to live. And for all their efforts
- 21:53Speaker 1: on putting on this race, they must have raised well
- 21:56Speaker 1: we're not quite sure at the moment, but it could
- 21:57Speaker 1: be as much as three thousand pound for the future projects,
- 22:01Speaker 1: which is amazing. Now. The other added benefit was the
- 22:04Speaker 1: Women's Institutes. Yes, they've been around for years and what
- 22:08Speaker 1: a great job they do. They were up all week
- 22:11Speaker 1: baking cakes for the runners, giving cakes away to three
- 22:14Speaker 1: hundred odd runners and volunteers. And even so after they'd
- 22:18Speaker 1: handed all them out and the runners were thin and out,
- 22:21Speaker 1: they still had loads left and came around with big
- 22:23Speaker 1: trays of cakes and sausage rolls just giving them away
- 22:25Speaker 1: because they had to go so world unto the Women's Institute.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Now I managed to a bit of rapport with the
- 22:33Speaker 1: local Hawkhurst Walkers to Runners group who were very enthusiastic
- 22:37Speaker 1: when it came to cheering in their fellow runners home.
- 22:40Speaker 1: This was a lovely friendly event thanks to people like
- 22:43Speaker 1: Rachel fag Is a coach. She's a coach to the
- 22:47Speaker 1: Walkers to Runner and a very enthusiastic member of the committee.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Congratulations also go to Rachel Wood and a nice work
- 22:54Speaker 1: team for all their hard work. And of course we
- 22:57Speaker 1: mustn't forget all the marshals and volunteers for their invaluable help.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Now this is typical of what can I say, a
- 23:05Speaker 1: rural country race. You've got to do everything professionally and
- 23:08Speaker 1: you still got to have there was an adjudicator there,
- 23:11Speaker 1: Eric and so you've still got to tick all the
- 23:13Speaker 1: boxes for the professional side of things like Marshall's signage,
- 23:21Speaker 1: You've got to have first aid cover and things like that.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But you can make it fun like we did with
- 23:26Speaker 1: Gabriella and her warm up, the Women's Institute and their
- 23:29Speaker 1: cakes and what a great cause just giving money back
- 23:32Speaker 1: to the community that was a really wonderful day for me.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I did thoroughly enjoy it and I really hope I
- 23:38Speaker 1: can get back there next year. Okay, moving on. Now,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we've got another little song from coder Line and this
- 23:43Speaker 1: is called Ready.
- 23:51Speaker 3: You tell me that.
- 23:52Speaker 4: You really but you're just a normal minds.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Scene Colder Line and a song called Ready Radio. Now
- 24:15Speaker 1: then footy time. Now did you watch the England versus
- 24:19Speaker 1: Netherlands Under twenty one semi finals in the European Championships.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Wow?
- 24:23Speaker 1: What a pulse haating game that was. Now sometimes I
- 24:25Speaker 1: think it's semi finals are more exciting than the finals.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Have both teams really start to push on. England looked
- 24:33Speaker 1: to the more dangerous on the night and went ahead
- 24:35Speaker 1: with a right foot screamer in the sixty seventh minute
- 24:38Speaker 1: from Liverpool's Harvey Elliott. The lead only lasted nine minutes
- 24:42Speaker 1: as the Dutch pool went back with Well if you
- 24:45Speaker 1: saw it, it was like a fortuitous lucky punk kick
- 24:49Speaker 1: from forty yards but it did catch the keeper a
- 24:53Speaker 1: beadle off his line. There were just five minutes remaining.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Elliott picked the ball up in the box, jink past
- 24:58Speaker 1: the Dutch defender and hit the ball this time with
- 25:01Speaker 1: his left foot to make the final score two to
- 25:03Speaker 1: one and onto the final tonight against old rivals Germany,
- 25:07Speaker 1: who defeated France three nil in the other semi final.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Now the match can be seen live on Channel four,
- 25:14Speaker 1: kickoffs at eight o'clock UK time. So any England versus
- 25:17Speaker 1: Germany football final at any level conjures up memories from
- 25:21Speaker 1: sixty six onwards and any other recent encounters over the year.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Every time England played Germany, they go straight back to
- 25:28Speaker 1: the sixty six World Cup and it starts from there.
- 25:31Speaker 1: And well, unfortunately Germany narrowly beat England to one earlier
- 25:37Speaker 1: on in the competition. But if what I remember of
- 25:39Speaker 1: that game, England were on top. They just couldn't get
- 25:41Speaker 1: the ball in the net. So but they still must
- 25:44Speaker 1: be full of confidence, you know, and raring to go.
- 25:47Speaker 1: And it's just one thing I really hope England versus Germany.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I just hope there's a result. I hope it doesn't
- 25:53Speaker 1: go to penalties. That's every England fans' worst nightmare, isn't
- 25:58Speaker 1: it penalties against Dumany. Well, this competition has played every
- 26:03Speaker 1: two years, and let me remind you that England won
- 26:06Speaker 1: it back in twenty twenty three, so can they make
- 26:08Speaker 1: it back to back victories? Well, tonight, get your England
- 26:12Speaker 1: shirt on and your scarf, find a telly, switch it
- 26:15Speaker 1: on at eight pm and watch it and cheer the
- 26:17Speaker 1: lads on. Now, this song only gets played every now
- 26:20Speaker 1: and then at football tournaments, and I think it's just
- 26:25Speaker 1: just got to sum up tonight, let's hope that the
- 26:28Speaker 1: lads can do it, whether the juniors, under eighteens, under
- 26:32Speaker 1: twenty one's ladies. It is England three Lions, So what
- 26:37Speaker 1: better tune to play than the Deal and Skinner three Lions.
- 26:41Speaker 1: There's a bit of a slow intro on this one.
- 26:43Speaker 3: It is on the roar of the crowd.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Here they come to. Teams are coming out, here they are,
- 26:59Speaker 1: they've kicked off.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Mm hmm, myles, Well, don't forget eight o'clock tonight, get
- 27:41Speaker 2: in front of that telly, gets your English shirt on.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Who knows there's no penalties? Okay, Well, moving on, it's
- 27:53Speaker 1: tennis time. The tennis finished last week at the Queen's Club,
- 27:58Speaker 1: Eastbourne with Alcarez. When the men's singles final. When Eastbourne ends,
- 28:03Speaker 1: it can only mean one thing. At Wimbledom begins. Now
- 28:06Speaker 1: play begins at eleven o'clock on Monday the thirtieth, when
- 28:09Speaker 1: al Kaiz will traditionally start the tournament as defending champion
- 28:13Speaker 1: against the volatile Fabio fog Fabio Fognini from Italy. Now,
- 28:21Speaker 1: the women's singles defending champion, Barbara Kretchikova plays her first
- 28:25Speaker 1: game on Tuesday against Alexander Ila of the Philippines. So
- 28:30Speaker 1: then we nearly have two weeks of until the finals,
- 28:35Speaker 1: with the ladies final on Saturday the twelfth and the
- 28:37Speaker 1: men's final on the Sunday, the thirteenth, both starting at
- 28:40Speaker 1: four o'clock. Now one to watch and follow is London
- 28:44Speaker 1: born English player jack Draper, who seems to be hitting
- 28:47Speaker 1: form at the right time. Jackie is seeded fourth in
- 28:50Speaker 1: the rankings, which ensures he avoids number one seed Yanick
- 28:54Speaker 1: Skinner and Carlos Alcarez until the semi finals should he
- 28:58Speaker 1: progress that far. That is the thing. Wimbledon always turns
- 29:02Speaker 1: up at least one surprise, doesn't it. Now Draper has
- 29:06Speaker 1: binge way against Argentinian Sebastian Bayers.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Well, Wimbledon means that all the local courts will be
- 29:14Speaker 1: busy as people get tennis fever. The parks are filled up,
- 29:19Speaker 1: budd in tennis players come out from all around the
- 29:21Speaker 1: country and it just affects the whole nation, doesn't it.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So if you love your tennis, you've got two weeks
- 29:29Speaker 1: of it starting on Monday. All right, I've got this
- 29:33Speaker 1: song now. It's another sort of Glastonbury type song. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: think it's tomorrow. Rod Stewart is on the Legends stage,
- 29:40Speaker 1: and I mean he's eighteen now. He's not the same
- 29:44Speaker 1: man as he used to be. As we when we
- 29:47Speaker 1: get older, you know what I mean, the voices go.
- 29:50Speaker 1: It's happened to quite a few of them, to be fair,
- 29:53Speaker 1: Paul McCartney, Elton John Dinah Ross. I think the only
- 29:58Speaker 1: one that's really got a good, strong vol perhaps two
- 30:01Speaker 1: is Tom Jones as far as I know. Last time
- 30:04Speaker 1: I heard him singing live, he sounded pretty strong. But
- 30:07Speaker 1: I went to see A Man for a Man back
- 30:10Speaker 1: of the Leecliffe Hall last year. Paul Jones was the
- 30:14Speaker 1: singer and his voice he was live. His voice sounded
- 30:18Speaker 1: just like it did in the sixties. Anyway, this is
- 30:22Speaker 1: a bit another bit of Glastonbury. To have a little
- 30:25Speaker 1: listen to Rod Stewart's on the main stage Legend stage tomorrow.
- 30:29Speaker 1: But for the moment, we're going to turn the clock
- 30:30Speaker 1: back and go back to nineteen seventy two and one
- 30:33Speaker 1: of his all time classics.
- 30:34Speaker 3: You wear it well, what's Stewart there in.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Nineteen seventy two. He's on the Legend stage at Glastonbury tomorrow. Okay,
- 31:22Speaker 1: not long Now's that's it from me today. I'll be
- 31:24Speaker 1: back on Thursday, where my special guest is Paulcartney, who
- 31:28Speaker 1: is chair Paul Carney, No, not Paul McCartney, Paul Karney,
- 31:31Speaker 1: who's chairman of the Sports Trust, and he will be
- 31:34Speaker 1: amongst others telling us about what's going on at the
- 31:37Speaker 1: Folks and Sports Center. As for me, no races to
- 31:40Speaker 1: compare the weekend. It's my birthday tomorrow, so I am
- 31:43Speaker 1: off to London and I'll tell you about that on Thursday.
- 31:46Speaker 1: How it all goes.
- 31:47Speaker 3: So see you on Thursday.
- 31:48Speaker 4: One five point nine, online at Radio Folkston dot com
- 31:54Speaker 4: and on your smart speaker.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Please Radio Focus. This is radio focused
