- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. As we head towards the end of the week,
- 0:10Speaker 1: let's not forget to keep God involved in our lives.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Every weekday morning at this time we stop. We take
- 0:18Speaker 1: some time with God by reading the Bible, listening to Him,
- 0:23Speaker 1: letting Him shape our lives. It really is a relationship
- 0:27Speaker 1: that we have with God.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And all this week we've been looking at a different
- 0:30Speaker 1: psalm from the Bible each day, and King David's relationship
- 0:37Speaker 1: with God expressed in these Psalms. Many of these Psalms
- 0:39Speaker 1: are just prayers, but he talks about his relationship with God,
- 0:43Speaker 1: and we're learning from that today. We're looking at Psalm 71,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and really.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Here's a psalm written in old age, and many of
- 0:54Speaker 1: us are getting older, and here's a psalm that expresses
- 0:59Speaker 1: David's heart to God at this time. He says, In You,
- 1:03Speaker 1: O Lord, do I take refuge. Let me never be
- 1:06Speaker 1: put to shame.
- 1:07Speaker 1: In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me. Incline your
- 1:12Speaker 1: ear to me and save me. Be to me a
- 1:16Speaker 1: rock of refuge to which I may continually come.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You have given the command to save me, for you
- 1:26Speaker 1: are my rock and my fortress. Rescue me, O my God,
- 1:31Speaker 1: from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of
- 1:34Speaker 1: the unjust and cruel man. For You, O Lord, are
- 1:39Speaker 1: my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. All
- 1:44Speaker 1: his life David has been trusting in God.
- 1:49Speaker 1: He says, Upon you I have leaned from before my birth.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You are he who took me from my mother's womb.
- 1:59Speaker 1: My praise is continually about you.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I have been as a portent to many, he says.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Lots of people look at my life and say there's
- 2:09Speaker 1: a lesson of what not to do.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Then he goes on to say, but you are my
- 2:15Speaker 1: strong refuge.
- 2:17Speaker 1: My mouth is filled with your praise and with your
- 2:20Speaker 1: glory all the day. Do not cast me off in
- 2:25Speaker 1: the time of old age.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Forsake me not when my strength is spent.
- 2:33Speaker 1: As your years come late in life.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You can still look at this purpose of God. My
- 2:42Speaker 1: mouth is filled with your praise.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Forsake me not when my strength is spent, and are
- 2:50Speaker 1: you feeling like a lot of your strength isn't there
- 2:53Speaker 1: that used to be there?
- 2:56Speaker 1: That's not a time when God can no longer use you,
- 2:59Speaker 1: no longer meet with you. It's not a time to
- 3:03Speaker 1: despair and say, I'm useless now. No, God will not
- 3:07Speaker 1: forsake you. He still has a purpose through you in
- 3:11Speaker 1: this world.
- 3:13Speaker 1: For my enemies speak concerning me. Those who watch for
- 3:17Speaker 1: my life consult together and say, God has forsaken him.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Pursue and seek Him, for there is none to deliver him.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Oh God, be not far from me. Oh my God,
- 3:30Speaker 1: make haste to help me. May my accusers be put
- 3:34Speaker 1: to shame and consumed with scorn and disgrace. May they
- 3:38Speaker 1: be covered who seek my hurt.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But I will hope continually and will praise you yet
- 3:46Speaker 1: more and more.
- 3:49Speaker 1: What a great statement. In old age. I'm going to
- 3:52Speaker 1: praise you more now than ever before in my life.
- 3:56Speaker 1: My mouth will tell of your righteous acts. When I
- 4:00Speaker 1: talk to my kids, when I talk to my grandkids,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm going to tell them all the ways that you
- 4:06Speaker 1: have been involved in my life, all the ways you've
- 4:09Speaker 1: answered prayer.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Of your deeds and salvation all the day, for their
- 4:16Speaker 1: number is past my knowledge.
- 4:19Speaker 1: With the mighty deeds of the Lord God, I will come.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone, O God,
- 4:28Speaker 1: from my youth you have taught me, and I still
- 4:32Speaker 1: proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and
- 4:36Speaker 1: grey hairs, O God, do not forsake me until I
- 4:40Speaker 1: proclaim your might to another generation, Your power to all
- 4:45Speaker 1: those who come.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who
- 4:50Speaker 1: have done great things, O God, who is like you.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You have made me see many troubles and calamities and
- 5:00Speaker 1: will revive me again from the depths of the earth.
- 5:03Speaker 1: You will bring me up again. You will increase my
- 5:06Speaker 1: greatness and comfort me again.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness,
- 5:13Speaker 1: O my God. I will sing praises to you with
- 5:16Speaker 1: the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips will
- 5:20Speaker 1: shout for joy when I sing praises to you, my
- 5:24Speaker 1: soul also, which you have redeemed, and my tongue will
- 5:28Speaker 1: talk of your righteous help all the day long, for
- 5:31Speaker 1: they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought
- 5:36Speaker 1: to do me hurt.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'm John North.
