She's so welcome to Conversations with Coffee. Thank you, Liz. I'm so glad you like to talk about our show. Liz: Yes. And we talk about things everything to do with Comic Cons. We love Comic Cons. We think you will love Comic Cons. We just KENT: I don't know about that. Liz: we just yak about all aspects and hope that you will be able to pick up some tips and pointers for enjoying Comic Con to the max. KENT: Yeah, you you said yak and I'm like, I know I talk a lot, so ha Yes, I do. I do. it's just cause Liz: I know he talks a lot also. KENT: I get excited and I love doing this stuff and I love sharing the information. I get excited when I'm talking with fans. Like, all right, so this show is gonna be the Bohemoth, as Liz would say. How do you say that? Liz: Be a moss. KENT: Be beer moth? Liz: Be no beamoth. It's it's a pronunciation No. KENT: You can't even say Bohemoth. How do you say Bohemoth in British? Liz: Be a moth. No, r seriously, it's it is a KENT: Please listeners, do you hear this? It sounds like beer moth. Liz: Yeah, to KENT: my god. Liz: the uneducated whatever. no, it is it is a known pronunciation. I didn't know that you pronounced it behemoth. Sounds weird to me. KENT: Behemoth. Liz: Behemoth. But speaking of beer moths KENT: Yes. Liz: Somebody just came back from the con, the mothership, the original. KENT: Yeah, it was back in the sixties when it started. Did you believe that? Yeah, yeah. What Liz: San Diego Comic Con. I d I didn't know it was the sixties. I just thought early eighties maybe. KENT: Yeah, yeah. A lot of people were asking this week, like, how long have you been doing San Diego Comic Con? You know, speaking of which, while I was at San Diego, I was drinking my coffee. yeah. Well, you know, I had it is a Star Wars. It's the Yeah, it's Liz: were you now? Hang on, is that is that a Star Wars is it like original poster? It's kind of glare. Okay. Lovely. KENT: the camera always takes a second to focus and stuff, but yeah, it's the original poster cup. Liz: Yeah. But that's that's the image of that's the image of pre Mark KENT: Luke and Leia. Liz: Hamill and pre Carrie Fisher, right? It's kind of them but not them. Yeah. KENT: Yeah, you know, all muscle abbot and looking hot, sexy. Before we knew them. Liz: Ha ha. KENT: yeah. So yeah, what are you drinking? Are you drinking your boring PG tips? Liz: Not today. KENT: Uh-oh, what are we at? we've caffeinated with the diet of the cochoth. Liz: PG tips is yes, I it was it was hot and and KENT: It was hot. It was hot. That is one thing, Liz, I can actually do. If it's hot outside, I can still drink a hot coffee. Like people say, why don't you get a nice coffee? Or why don't you drink a frappuccino? And I'm like, mm, I I just like the w I like a hot coffee. I don't know. Is that weird? Liz: No, I'm that way with tea usually, but there was a little teed out today, so KENT: Mm. Liz: just decided to go with the old Diet Cook. KENT: Okay. Diet, Coke, good. Yeah. Healthy ish. Liz: 'Cause you know you know how we always say you need to keep hydrated at cons? This KENT: Right. Liz: is how I keep hydrated, Dyke. KENT: A coke and a smile. Liz: Yeah. KENT: my goodness, Liz: Anyhow. KENT: Liz. I've been on the road for like twenty-one days and ended it with San Diego Comic-Con. Liz: A five day, four and a half day con, right? KENT: Four and a half days. It starts Wednesday at six PM, goes till nine nine PM and then all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Liz: Absolutely insane. I mean, KENT: Yeah. Liz: they they put wraps, right? They wrap trains and hotels with advertisements for various movies and TV shows. KENT: You know what? This year it wasn't as much as before. Liz: Really? KENT: You know how usually they wrap the whole hard rock hotel? Nope. Now they did do this Liz: Really? KENT: the gas lamp sign was part of doomsday and stuff like that. It's all over social media. You can't miss it. Like everybody took pictures of it. I took pictures of it. it was crazy. Yeah. This You and I do Comic Cons all the time, and we're on our feet all the time. And you know, there's just shows that you're like, okay, I'm tired. This show tore me up. Like, Liz: Really? KENT: I I was done mentally, physically, like I was done. But I'll have to tell you who I was working with, and then you'll understand. So yeah. Liz: Okay. Do toe, do too. KENT: I ain't gonna tell right now. I'm I'm just like, my gosh, San Diego Comic Con. If you're one of our listeners and you were at San Diego Comic-Con, put in put below that you attended. And how many years you've been doing it or worked? Like if you were at Liz: Or or worked. Or worked. Yeah. KENT: San Diego and you worked it, attended it, sh just there were people there, there were people there that didn't even have tickets because there were so many pop-up events. Outside of the Comic-Con. one of my friends was saying there was 39 pop-up events Liz: Wow. KENT: at San Diego Comic-Con. So there's 39 events that you didn't have to have a Comic-Con ticket to go do. Liz: Just 'cause it's all right there and happening and yeah. KENT: Yep. Yep. Liz: Now I've been twice, I volunteered twice, KENT: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Liz: I think twenty three and twenty four. KENT: Yep, I was there. Liz: I saw you there. And KENT: You did. You did there. Liz: I I was lucky enough to be chosen to be a volunteer. You actually KENT: Uh-huh. Liz: there's a waiting list of a year just to be a volunteer. And you know you. They absolutely do. And you KENT: Cause they need so many to run that event. It's not even s it's stupid crazy how many people they need to help volunteer for line Liz: Yeah. KENT: control and you know helping people with information and all kinds of stuff. And the funny Liz: Well I was KENT: thing is, Liz, and I don't mean to cut you off, but it's funny because my friend Yes, I do. Liz: you're always cutting me off. carry on, carry on. KENT: One of the funny things is one of my friends was like, it's just interesting that all these volunteers, you ask them where something is and you know what their answer is. I don't know. There are volunteers for San Diego Comic Con, but they don't know where anything is. And it's like, you're a volunteer. Let me can I ask you, where are the bathrooms? I don't know. Where is this panel? I don't know. Liz: Which is which is like the first training you get when you're a volunteer. Don't say I don't know. Say I'll find out. Yeah. KENT: Yeah, yeah. That's a good question. I'll let me find out. Yeah. Yeah. They they were a little frustrated with that. So I was like, that that's funny to share 'cause I don't know. Liz: Well w one of the days I volunteered a few years ago, I was an arrow sign. I was literally no, KENT: You dressed as an arrow? Liz: I literally was holding an arrow that way. KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: Directions, a part of the directions towards a certain event. Yes. Yes. And KENT: So you were a a direction arrow holder to tell people which way to go. Liz: yes. And I wasn't even sure what the event was. I kind of had a vague idea of the name. But I did that for three hours. And because it was rather brainless, of course, KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: and you know me, I start getting into conversations with people. So there was this one cosplayer dressed as Arrow. From DC. And I said, KENT: Yeah, green arrow. Liz: yeah, green arrow. So I said, hey, I'll give you a quarter if you hold this sign for three hours. And he took he took the arrow. He took the arrow sign. And I took pictures. He was very good natured. So arrow KENT: That's funny. Liz: was an arrow. But you know, you you make it fun. But you, you have much to tell, do you not? KENT: my gosh, so so many things. I do. my there's so much there's controversy. The Okay. You tell me what you heard and then I will tell you Liz: I heard I heard some. I heard I heard KENT: what happened. Liz: I heard fisty cuffs were were happening. KENT: Yes, in a panel. Can you my Liz: Yes was it a wrestling panel? KENT: I don't know what panel it was. I h not only heard Liz: I saw footage. KENT: it and but I saw the footage of it. Like two guys full on got in a fight in the front row of a panel. Liz: I think it was a wrestling panel. I think I had heard that. But then the KENT: would not be surprised about that. But yeah, they literally fighting. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Like, and then security had a cuff Yep, yep, Liz: Yeah, pulled apart by security, yeah. KENT: yep. And you know those guys will be kicked out and banned from attending for the rest of their life. But how people's Liz: Yeah. But then I also heard over KENT: tempers were really short this week because again, heat wave everywhere, people. Pushing and shoving, it's elbow to elbow people. Like I saw videos of people trying to get into the exhibit hall and are standing there at that main door, like C D E, and they're yelling at each other. And the guy's like, you know, it's just crazy. There's so many foot. All you have to do is type San Diego Comic Con or SDCC in Instagram or what and you will get Liz: yeah. KENT: so many videos. Funny ones, like but just people's perspectives. Like there's one of, you know, because everybody at San Diego wants to just stop right where they're at. Doesn't matter if people are walking behind you or not, they'll just stop to answer their phone or they'll stop and then turn. And so you're always like smacking into people left and right. And you're like, sorry, sorry, sorry. Like you should just wear a sign that says, Sorry, I bumped into you. It was crazy. Liz: Hey, we saw an we saw a f another funny sign, did we not? KENT: Yes. You wanna you go ahead, tell about that one. I thought that was funny. I was like, my gosh. It makes sense though. It makes sense. Show it to the view. Yeah. Sh all right. Well the YouTubers are gonna get to see it, but you see, she can't even hold her phone right. It basically Liz: Yeah, I it doesn't it doesn't it doesn't come up on let's see. A big handwritten sign. well it's it's kinda hard to to see. no, not that one. I can't, I can't. KENT: the sign basically says what Liz? Liz: It said, there we go. If you KENT: Okay. I will tell you. Liz: if you can if you can afford the con, you can afford deodorant. Ow! KENT: yes. Deodorant. I am telling you that Axe Body Spray should be a sponsor at one of these Comic Cons. There are people that just don't understand that, you know, taking they could. They could Liz: They could sponsor this show, couldn't they? KENT: like seriously, like people take a shower before you go to a Comic Con or put some deodorant on. Like smell clean. Like just don't like, yeah, sorry. I'm not trying to be rude. I'm just given the reality of it because then it just starts smelling Liz: Yeah, and especially KENT: like a footlocker in there. Liz: Especially when there's a heat wave on KENT: Yes, yes. Now San Diego had so many cool things. It was crazy. the a lot of Liz: Are you gonna show us some swag? KENT: yeah, I'm I'm trying to this pen is upside down. this is all right. So my buddy had me stand in the Mondo line because he wanted to get an exclusive He-Man and Claw and stuff like that. So I helped him out and we got that and stuff, but they had like a blind bag for pins, and of course, Doom was the big Liz: Yeah. KENT: thing at San Diego Comic Con, Robert Downey Jr., the Avengers and stuff like that. So I did two blind bags. I got these Doom pins. I'm hoping this will clear. Liz: Ex KENT: Hold on, let me get this. Is it clearing up? Nope. But it's a doom mask, and then the other one is another doom pin. Liz: yeah, I see that. Okay. KENT: Jeez. I hate these cameras. They just don't zoom. Liz: Yeah, it's not super clear, but I get get the idea. KENT: There they're clear right there. There you go. So I got these really cool, they're really bright, colorful doom pins and stuff like that. I did get Paramount, Strange New World, Star Trek 60, Liz: Mm. KENT: Lanyard, that was the Lanyard for this year. 60 years Star Liz: Star Trek sixty nice. KENT: Trek, yep. So Strange New World. And then of course, you know, I was walking by our your favorite booth, their Liz. Liz: wet a workshop KENT: Weta works and guess who was there? Your buddy. Liz: Who? Lawrence? KENT: Nope. Mr. John Reese Davies. And and and Ferris Liz: Wow. Of course, of course. I knew they were gonna be there. Yes. KENT: too. So stopped by, said hi. John wanted to tickle me a little bit. So you know, you do that. You're like, okay, that's cool. And then, of course, you know, I had I have the San Diego Comic Con guide, event guide, the official guide. Liz: And d doesn't does the map in the middle fold out? I feel like it I feel like it does. KENT: let me Liz, I you in in all right, I've been going to San Diego Comic Con since ninety three. Haven't except COVID, haven't missed a year. I've never used the guide. Liz: Ha KENT: look, it does fold out. I didn't know that. You just look how look at the map. If you're watching this on YouTube, Liz: Yes, 'cause 'cause I and this is an example. When I KENT: you you'll see that I have a map literally of how the exhibits are, shows you where Hasbro is. I did not know that the now I know. Sideshow was there this year. Liz: Well and we've we've talked about we've talked about this. The first year I went, I knew I was going, I knew it was a behemoth of a con. KENT: Uh-huh. Liz: So I went, I studied the guide, I mapped out where I KENT: my gosh. Liz: was going, who was there, KENT: Yeah. Liz: and it it helped. I I got the map on my phone, I just yep, I KENT: Yeah, got all the panels. See, that's one thing I don't do, and you probably do, and maybe our listeners do. They probably download the app for the show to help Liz: Hm. KENT: them guide them. Liz: Yes, which is a good idea because KENT: No. Liz: well yeah, you you you're not a panel person. KENT: I'm working. I know. I'm not a panel person. But it tells you who the sele some of the celebrities that are signing up in the sales pavilion and some of the con exclusives. yeah, it's crazy. So here Yeah. Liz: Yeah. So so if you have if you have that, definitely use it as a resource. KENT: Yeah, this thing is awesome. Now before we started this podcast, I was gonna sh I'm showing you this, but look at look at this. This was from 2018. All right. Let me make sure I don't knock. That's the Liz: Is that the the programme? KENT: program. Look how it's a book. Like, look at the difference. 2018 to look how skinny Liz: Wow. KENT: that thing is. Like, this is a book. Like, yeah, it's Liz: Wow. KENT: crazy. Anyone want a 2018 Ten Diego Comic-Con guidebook? Well. Liz: Yeah, it's my birthday. KENT: Really? Is it? Liz: No, no, but you should give it to me. KENT: Wow list, just everything give give Liz: It's it's my birthday, my precious give it to me. KENT: My precious. my gosh. You're funny. So, yeah, so you get the guide. I got the lanyards. I got some pins. And you know, Liz: Did you get it back? KENT: they did have bags. my gosh. All right. So I'm just gonna show you one. I ended up with like five bags. and I like this one. This was my favorite. It is the Percy Jackson and the Olympian bag from Disney. I just like Liz: That's nice one. KENT: the colors of it, it's Right. It's like they actually had a pop-up outside over there by the hard rock for Percy Jackson. So Liz: Really? KENT: there was an experience that you could do with Percy Jackson. yeah, there was so much stuff going on. I couldn't keep track. Kevin Smith and Jay and those guys had comedy shows each night. some of the what's the guys from Big Bang Theory? They had The one guy saves the universe. That's a new movie. Liz: yeah, the comic book store guy. What was his name? KENT: Yeah, yeah. He's Brian Poison Poisson is in it. but they had a pop up of the comic book store and stuff. yeah, it was crazy. Liz: Nice. Yeah. really? that's that's a great idea. KENT: I have so much stuff. It's not even funny. This is a nice clean view. If you saw under my desk Liz: See, my my thing my thing with San Diego was, you know, it's so huge, there's so much going on that I I really have a fear of missing out thing. KENT: That is a lot of people, the fear of missing out and stuff, yeah. Liz: And I feel like I went to see this thing, but because I did, I missed that other thing KENT: Yeah. Liz: that everybody said was so fantastic. You know, I KENT: Well, Raleigh Comic Con was going on the same time as San Diego. I mean, Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: if you can't make San Diego Comic Con 'cause they sell out so quickly, well then go to Raleigh Comic Con and or Raleigh GalaxyCon. Liz: But I mean even within even within San Diego, it's KENT: Yeah, yeah. Liz: like, well, you know, I wanted to go do this meanwhile you are bumping into Keanu Reeves. And I'm across KENT: Yeah, that's what I do. Liz: the hall, but that's because it's you, Kent. KENT: Look at that old button. Liz: that's fun. Twenty eighteen. KENT: See? I got old stuff. Liz: So I actually was finding it a little bit frustrating 'cause KENT: 'Cause you were seeing so much stuff about San Diego and you you felt like you were missing out on it? Liz: Well, it just well no, I felt like I was there and missing out on stuff because I I didn't know I didn't know where KENT: my gosh. Yeah. Ugh. Liz: even even having studied the guide, I didn't know where was the best place to be, where were the fun things. in fact I think the year the last time I went KENT: There was you can't do that show is so big, you can't do everything. You're gonna miss out stuff. Like just just like Hall H. That's just the behemoth panel. And people were camping out Thursday for Saturday's panel. it got bad. It got bad. Yeah. So let me hold on. So Liz: Yeah, I heard two days, but then I heard I heard something bad. I I heard Yeah, you you have the the inner workings. KENT: No, no, no. I'll let you tell what you heard was bad, but so people were camping out Thursday. You had to get wristbands. You had to go behind the bay front Hilton to get wristbands to go stand in line for Hall H for Saturday, which was the Bohemoth day because that's when they were doing all the Marvel stuff. they did the space ball. Kevin Smith had a panel. He actually hosted the Space Ball one, which was awesome. Liz: that's funny. KENT: yeah, yeah, yeah. He did a great job at it too. And all those guys I I'm looking forward to seeing that movie. that that's gonna be awesome. But yeah, people were like doing that there were people doing shifts, they would like sit out in the sun for six hours. And then their friend would come and take their spot and they go sleep or go inside and do a little bit of the Comic Con. But I'm like It's just in my mind, and maybe it's just me. if you're listening right now, tell me what you think. Would you sit two days of your Comic Con experience in a line just to be in the room that they announce Doomsday or Space Balls? Like, I I me personally, I'm more of a I'll watch it on YouTube and get the gist of everything and get a better view. I yeah, yeah, Liz: And get a better view. Cause Hall H is enormous. KENT: yeah. Well, and then there was a lot of sneak things that happened in Hall H that people weren't aware of. I kind of got a tidbit of what somebody walking around in a costume. some I was told about it, so I knew what was happening. He actually He walked past. I was working. didn't have it a time, but yeah, there was a certain person in the costume. You know who it was? Liz: I heard something. KENT: Okay. All right. All right. So let's go back to the issue of Hall H and standing in line for two days and overnight too. Yes. Liz: So two days and it turns out yeah, I had heard I heard from somebody that was a volunteer KENT: Uh-huh. Liz: that some of the wristbands were counterfeit. KENT: Yep. Yep. Liz: Therefore, more wristbands than seats and KENT: Yes. Liz: that things got ugly. KENT: They it did get ugly. Actually, Comic Con had to have a panel after the show to address that. So they are working on fixing that. Somehow it got leaked what the band wristbands look like. People I don't know how it was done. Again, there's always Like I saw a video of a guy that snuck into San Diego Comic Con illegally with no badge, no nothing. He did he used something and walked in. And I'm like, you're a freaking idiot. Because one, you posted it online. Two, he's showing his face and everything. So San Diego is gonna go after him. Because he literally said, We snuck into San Diego Comic Con. Now Maybe he's just doing it to get hype on social media and things like that and had a badge. But when you put up there, we snuck in, this is how we did it, da da da. That's not good. Liz: And it will get you banned. KENT: You know what I mean? And it's illegal. Sandy San Diego will slap a lawsuit on you. They are that big of a company. They will slap a lawsuit on you. just like these wristbands. They're literally having investigators find out who got what, where they got from, but like they're doing the research. Like this is not gonna happen again. Liz: Yeah, 'cause it's such a huge deal. And I mean I heard fighting happened and KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: I'm not in the least surprise. It's KENT: Yeah. And of course then you know there are people that are selling their wristbands so that P you want I have a wristband if you wanna go to Hall H, you know, and and that's how those fake counterfeit ones happen. Liz: Yeah, I mean that's really bad. I've never heard of that happening before. KENT: Well, and they always tell everybody, do not take something from a person if you don't know them. Or buy something off of somebody that you don't know. Cause there are people that make counterfeit badges and try to sell them. Hey, you want a Saturday badge or a Sunday badge? It's only forty dollars. Well, if they make a hundred badges, they just made four thousand dollars. You know what I mean? So, like if you don't know that person, psh please be careful. And again, it's not that hard. I mean, in my brain, once you see what the wristband looks like, you you see them on people's wrists on Thursday. well, I'll go f have somebody make them up Thursday night and then Friday I'm selling them. You know, so that was Liz: Yeah. Yeah. KENT: a big issue. They they addressed it. There was a panel about it. but yeah, a lot of Liz: Well what did they say in the panel? I mean was it? KENT: I didn't I didn't get to listen to the whole thing. I just they Liz: Was it for people that had been cheated out of the seat? Okay. KENT: It was more of a press conference, like there they because the media had blew it up as well. so they needed nip it in the bud and address it. So the the board came out, did a panel, talked with all the press, just are aware of it, they know it, they're getting investigators involved, et cetera, et cetera. So yeah, it I mean, again, this is a bohemuth beer moth convention. Liz: Ha ha ha. KENT: So Yeah. yeah, wristbands, fake trying to get into Hall H. I mean, and again, this is my personal opinion. I am not spending my time, energy, or effort to try to get into Hall H. Unless like I'm in the front row. And again, that was the other thing. Like, so many people there. If you're not in the first, Five, six rows, you're looking up at the TV screen to watch everything, and then everybody jumps up and has have their phone video recording. So you all you got is this sea of arms and video camera telephones in your face. Yeah. Now the cool thing about the Doomsday announcement is that the people that were attending got a mask of Doom and a cape. So they got to dress up as Doom and Liz: that's pretty cool. KENT: stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know. I was like, that's pretty cool. Yep. Yep. They Liz: I mean all of them, all of those thousands of people got that? Nice. KENT: and they handed it out to them. So if you were sitting there, like all the volunteers were handing it out. Usually you don't get a gift unless you leave the venue. So I was like, that's pretty nice. So I mean, and my gosh, did you s did you see online about the doomsday panel? Liz: I heard about these special guests. KENT: Which one? Liz: The one in the red suit? KENT: Well he wasn't in a red suit. It Liz: Wasn't he? KENT: was a jean suit. He was walking around San Diego Comic Con in a Deadpool jean Liz: Okay, so we might be talking KENT: suit. Liz: Okay, ch Okay. I heard Deadpool. I KENT: It wasn't red. Denim. Liz: I assumed it was de it was red, the red costume, but he had a KENT: No, denim. Liz: denim Deadpool. KENT: Like blue jean denim. It was a gray denim deadpool. He was walking around taking pictures with people. it was funny. There's so many videos out there. Liz: But it was it was Ryan Reynolds though. KENT: one hundred percent. Yes, yes, Liz: Okay, see that. KENT: yes. One hundred percent. Yeah. My inside source told Liz: Kind of thing. KENT: me and I knew to look for it and I saw it and I avoided it like the plague. you can and you could tell because I s I I saw his cameraman and and then his handler. So you're like, why is Deadpill got a cameraman and a handler? Yeah, and I was like, it was funny, but it was good. They did a good they did it and people Liz: Well I f I feel like I feel like that KENT: didn't know about it. Even Sergeant Slaughter got caught up in it. Liz: Really? KENT: Yeah, Ryan took a picture with Sergeant Slaughter and and now Liz: that's funny. KENT: There's all this social media battle like I want to rematch and da da da. It's funny. It's just go on Instagram. You'll see them Liz: Well I I feel like KENT: all. Liz: I feel like that kind of fun gift for the fans KENT: Yes. Liz: is one of the reason people like to go to Hall H You know, if you've KENT: Yeah. Liz: I think last year no, two years ago they had a SpongeBob panel and Mark Hamill showed up KENT: Mm-hmm. Tom Kenny, yeah. yeah, yeah. Yeah. Liz: because he was a guest in one of the episodes. And so he shows up and of course the whole place goes bananas. KENT: I was Yeah, yeah. I was right next to Tom Kenny. Liz: I missed that one, said I missed that one. I was right to have a fear of missing out because I missed out. KENT: Yep. Yeah, well, it's Mark Hamill and Tom Kenny and yeah, you know. Which is funny because I was right next to Tom Kenny all weekend. Yeah, he was signed. Yeah. Liz: really? he's man that guy has high energy. He's Yes Yeah, he's he's pretty amazing. I saw his band. He does he has KENT: Uh-huh. Liz: a like a big big band type retro old standards dance band and it's KENT: Yeah, yeah. Liz: lots of fun. He did throw in one or two SpongeBob numbers, but it was mostly just the the KENT: There you go. yeah. Liz: fifties standards. It was so fun. KENT: There was some amazing cosplays this year. my gosh. I Liz: yeah. KENT: can't I I there's so many great cosplays at San Diego Comic Con. Yeah. If you were a photographer, it Liz: Did were there any giants? KENT: was a you would have had a heyday. There was a Tron one that was giant. a tr Liz: Really? KENT: I yeah, I didn't see it, but I saw a video of it because a friend was like, did you see this? And they show me the video. It was really good Tron outfit. Like, And of course, one of the characters was that Bohemoth guy. So I I I I was floored. I was like, my gosh. Liz: What you mean the master control, that one? KENT: Yeah. Liz: Yep. KENT: It was pretty cool. And you know, there's so much stuff like some of the stuff that wasn't there last year, it was back this year, like Sideshow came back and showed all their statues and figures and stuff like that. The one thing I did like that they did different their booth was smaller, but you know, usually their statues or their figurines, they have those glass cases. And this year they didn't do that. They left them open. So if you were doing a video or picture, it would come out clear. I was like, I was impressed. I talked with Tim at Sideshow and I was like, this is this is awesome. There's some I took a picture with Chris Bartlett's C3PO figure and there's a Darth Liz: cool. KENT: Vader. There, yeah, there was so many amazing things. I it was again, San Diego Comic-Con. It is so big, it is Visually stimulating. Do you agree? Liz: Well, how many yeah, I mean, how many blocks long is that convention center? Would you say? Four blocks? KENT: Four. Four at least four. It's gotta be more than that. Liz: And a city block wide at least. And KENT: Yeah, at least. Liz: thousands and thousands of vendors. KENT: Yes. Liz: And then you've got the whole panel area. I mean, how many I mean there's Hall H, but then there's a bunch of others. sales pavilion. KENT: Panel rooms. Yep. And then you have the sales pavilion upstairs where the some of the celebrities go to sign autographs and stuff like that. Got to see some old friends of mine. Janisha Adams Ginyard was up there signing. Isaac Singleton was up there. Isaac's from Pirates. Janisha was from Wakanda. Nicole from my gosh. my gosh. I can't even think of what sh she's been on so many other things. But yeah, there were so many people up there signing autographs and just yeah. Liz: Now you you were with Kevin Smith? KENT: I was not. I was not. Liz: What you with? Go on. KENT: Do you really want me to tell you? 'Cause I know you're gonna get upset. Liz: No, no, 'cause you know, I totally don't care. Really. KENT: Okay, great. so if you're Liz: Ha ha KENT: not if you're not watching our YouTube channel, Liz has literally got her glasses all the way up to the video camera. Liz: Ha ha KENT: So trying to figure out who I was with. So do you know who Andrew Choi is? Liz: No, KENT: And J. Liz: Right. KENT: I don't I can't remember Jay's last name. But do you Liz: Andrew Choi is the singing voice of Genu Saja Yes. KENT: Ginyu. Ginu, yeah. And Jay is Abby. Liz: You were with them. KENT: I was with the K-pop Demon Hunter singers. Yes. Abby and Jen you. Yep. See? And she's getting frustrated. see, now you wanna know why I was burnt out mentally, physically, everything? Cause the lines did not stop. Liz: Did you have screamers? Were they screaming? KENT: Who, the girls or the guys? No. Liz: Yeah. The girls. KENT: now there was a lot of people that were surprised that they were there because they literally flew in from Korea the day before. So they had a lot of jet lag. but yeah. Thursday, Friday, Liz: Hence KENT: Saturday, I was with Christina V for half the day, and Liz: Yes. KENT: then I was with the them the rest of the day. And then Sunday I was with Jay. So yeah, I was with Sasha Boys. Is that what they are Saja Boys? Yeah. With the singers. Liz: Sarger boys, yeah. Yeah, you see my phone? KENT: So Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Liz: That would be them. KENT: Okay. Okay. So now there's two Liz: Okay this on top of BTS in El Paso, I think I hate you. Is that fair? People out there, should I hate Kent? I know and guess whose panel KENT: Yes. I'm sorry. Yes, that's fair. There was a K pop group there. There was another K pop group there too at the San Diego Comic Grand. And Liz: they were on? KENT: who's? Liz: Our good friend Peter Fascinelli. They showed up, speaking of which, because they have KENT: speaking of which. Speaking of which, he was walking through the aisles and he walks up Liz: Yeah. KENT: to me. He goes, Hey. And I go, Hey, Peter. And I was like, we should take a selfie so I can send it to fake British Liz. And he goes, my gosh, British Liz, I love her. And I said, Yeah, but it's fake British Liz. And he goes, Okay, that's between us. Liz: Yes, it sh it well, I thought that was hysterical, but it showed up on my Facebook feed that there was this panel that had Peter and Ashley Green from Twilight KENT: Mm-hmm. Yep. Liz: doing a vampire twilight panel and then An Hyphen KENT: Uh-huh. Yep, yep. And then some K pop people. Liz: and Hyphen from the K pop band came because they have KENT: Yeah, the Korean gr band, yeah. Liz: they have this whole like a presentation where it's all kind of story and supernatural. They're prob they would have probably KENT: Yeah. I think they did a concert. I think you know that pavil that amphitheater and the behind the convention center. They I think they did a concert back there. Yeah, yeah. and then there's a video of them with Liz: Mm. I would not be surprised, yeah. But they they came in KENT: Kr Ryan Reynolds. Liz: As as Deadpool, in the Deadpool thing. KENT: No, they were just hanging out. Like just you know, the celebs get to hang out in certain green room areas and stuff like that. And there's a picture of them or a video of them talking with each other. But yeah, it's great. Again, San Diego Comic Con. The Bohemoth. Like the I saw John Cena walking down the street. Pedro Pascal was walking around. Liz: Well and that's the thing, because we were was he KENT: there there was I mean You just turn around and you bump into a celebrity at that one. And of course, you know, I do. I do. But I Liz: No, you turn around and you bump into a celebrity. KENT: have the eye for it. But yeah, there are people lined up Liz: What? KENT: at the Hard Rock Cafe on the side, you know, where the celebrities come in and out to get into their vehicle to take over to the convention center. So my friends are like, What's that line? Nothing you want to stand into. I do. Liz: Yeah. You see you you bump into people. You are the bumpiest person I've ever met. You just you happen to be s KENT: Yeah, I ask did you ever watch Yo Gabba Gabba? Liz: no. KENT: okay. So Mouno, the red character in Yo Gabba Gabba, I bumped into him. Josh. Liz: Like in the red or the guy. KENT: No, he was no the guy that wears the costume that did it for all these years with DJ Lance. I bumped into him. Yeah, there's all kinds of Liz: Well and Keanu Reeves, you're just standing there minding your own business. He's standing there minding KENT: That was last year. That was last year. That's old school news. Liz: his own business and he becomes part of the Keanu bubble because Keanu comes up, KENT: Yes, yes, yes. Liz: starts playing on this pinball machine. KENT: No, we walked to the pinball machine. I was walking Liz: because you suddenly were part of his entourage. KENT: I was walking in the direction of where he was going. And all of a sudden, I I look over because I felt this security presence walking around me. And I looked around and Keanu was to the right of me. And I was like, hey. He's like, hey. I'm like, you're going to your pinball machine because I had seen the pinball machine. And he's like, Yep. Liz: For John Wet. KENT: Yeah, yeah. It was a John Wick pinball machine. And so I was walking in that direction. So I just walked with him. And some of my friends saw that and took. pictures of me walking next to Kiana. I didn't get Yeah, they're they're floating around Liz: I saw those pictures. You sh you need to send that to me. KENT: somewhere. a couple of my friends have those. But yeah, that's just weird things. That that happened last year. We're talking about this year. And then if my gosh. Liz: Yes. I mean probably each year is a podcast program on it by itself. KENT: Well yeah, we will do another one next year. You know, maybe we'll go live. Maybe we'll do a live podcast. Ooh, there you go. See? Ideas. Ideas. Our subscribers are like, what the heck? Ha ha ha. Liz: There but there was there was one thing I wanted to ask you though. I happened KENT: Sure. Yeah, yeah. Liz: to notice your t shirt. You are wearing a magic castle t shirt. KENT: Yeah, the magic castle late. Isn't that cool? Have you ever been? Liz: I have not well actually my husband says I did, but it was so many decades ago I don't remember. But we were invited there. KENT: Yeah, I this is not Comic Con related, but st Magic Castle is a place up in LA. it's invite only. it's it literally it's where they do magic in this house on on in Hollywood. yeah. Member has to yeah. Liz: And a and a member has to invite you. There's no way to there's no way you can just get in. KENT: Yeah, I actually have a friend who's a magician. And he was on fool us and won. He fooled Penn and Teller. And so they asked him to perform. And so he invited me to go. So I went and did that and stuff like that. Liz: Was that this this year? KENT: No, no, this is like pre-COVID. Yeah, pre-COVID. Yeah. So about five, six years ago, but it was a great experience and stuff like that. And one of my friends, April, Just went recent. Liz: Dear April KENT: Yeah, just went recently. And so she got me a Magic Castle shirt. Thank you, April. Liz: lovely. KENT: I'll throw that out there. Thank you, April. if anybody goes back and wants to get me a magic castle shirt, I'm a size large. but yeah, I I love swag. Swag's shirts, I mean, she's you give me a unique shirt like this. Like I have some Lucasfilm ones and people are always like, Where'd you get that? I'm like, I actually went to George Lucas's house and he has a store there in the vineyard that you can buy stuff like keychains and shirts and ornaments and stuff like that. have me pull out one of those. I have a Lucasfilm ornament hidden somewhere. So that could be an episode right there. Bam. Liz: Yes, swag I picked up at George Lucas' house. Yes. KENT: Yeah, no. But back to San Diego Comic Con. yeah, it was well, one heat advisory everywhere. So er Liz: yeah. KENT: you couldn't walk two blocks without sweating to death. So that's why I was like, that deodorant sign was n very accurate this year because I I myself carry a bottle of axe body stray just in case. And you know, you got your backpack on, you're you're walking four or five blocks, so your back Liz: so your back gets so KENT: is just coated with sweat. Like, You know you're doing a Comic Con if your back is sweating from your backpack. Liz: Yes, yes. And then and then also having like the sweat the salt rings when you've sweated and then it's dried and you have kind of the the the KENT: Yep, yep, yep, yep. Yep, yep. I had friends say they changed their shirts like two, three times. So Liz: Yeah. And you probably just wanna chuck them in the trash. You know. KENT: Well, I mean, hopefully you're in the vicinity of the Comic Con, like you're staying at the Hilton or the Marriott, or you can go back to your room and cool off, change your shirt, clean up a little bit, take a rest, eat a sandwich, whatever, and then come back, you know. I, on the other hand, was Liz: That's true. When I KENT: inside all day with your favorite Liz: Yeah. Well I w I KENT: singers. Liz, I'm sorry. Liz: Ken Ken can I hang out with you? Ken. KENT: You know what was cool though? The Funko was there, obviously. The they had their Funko booth and stuff like that. But they had these things, Funkos that were made by robots. Handmade by robots. Here's a C three PO. I'm kinda gonna sh share share it to you, but these were all handmade by robots, Funkos, Liz: But aren't they they're probably all made automated anyway, are they? That's KENT: I don't know. Liz: I can't imagine little people moulding them and putting them together. Surely it's all a factory anyway. KENT: Yeah, but Funko, you know, just trying to change up their stuff a little bit and Liz: But there seems seems like there's more Yeah. KENT: be different and have this stuff. But yeah, so I got that exclusive. That was pretty cool. Liz: So you said did you did you say Chris was there? Chris Bartlett? KENT: No, Chris Bartlett was at GalaxyCon Raleigh. Liz: he was at R yes, he did tell us that, didn't he? Yes. KENT: Yes. So he was there. They were chatting with me back and forth. Wish you were here. Wish we were there. Kind of thing. So yeah, that that's the thing about these comic cons. You have to pick and choose where you're gonna go. Liz: Because there are so many. I mean, even there, you've got San Diego and Galaxy Con Raleigh same weekend, opposite coasts, but they are both enormous cons. I mean, San Diego's KENT: They are. Liz: off on its own planet, but you know that's a very significant con you've got on the other side of the country. And KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: a dozen cons in between at various places. There's just so many, especially during the summer. You'll have twenty in any given weekend. Just KENT: Yeah. Liz: unbelievable amounts of cons. Which is why we're doing this, because we love all of them and we want you to enjoy them. Which is why we tell our silly stories. KENT: yeah, it was it was a very busy Comic Con. Yeah, I was there all the time. friends were like, can you come hang out with us? I'm like, I gotta get these guys all autographed and yeah, it was crazy. Yeah. They they had lines, Tom Kenny had lines. Greg Baldwin was there, he had lines. Yeah, yeah. He was there. Yeah. I wrote Iroh, Liz: He was there the first year I think I went. Yeah, he's absolutely love Greg. Doubt did he did he have the cosplay on though? Would have been I was gonna say he would have been absolute heat stroke if he wore that. KENT: did not. He did not. But he he's Avatar. He's a voice actor of Avatar. If you're listening and Liz: Yeah, Uncle Iro. KENT: Uncle Iroh. Yeah. Yeah. Liz: And so enormously popular every con. I mean Iroh is a great character, but I'm surprised how busy he is. He always just has a long, long line. KENT: He j well, he talks like Iro and is just really lovely to the fans and just I I always Liz: he is. KENT: love hearing from him. So yeah. yeah, Liz: I'm so glad he was there. KENT: and then while I was there, I had to help a friend with I had a few minutes while Jay and Andrew were getting ready for to come down. One of my friends, Jay McKent, has a booth at the Comic Con. He sells memorabilia and stuff like that. And we went out, I don't know if you remember Prince the Singer. Liz: Yes. KENT: So he was married to Matty Garcia, his wife. and Liz: Prince horse? KENT: Prince was, yep. for like four years we were married. But she came and Liz: Don't think I knew that. KENT: showed up and she was in a lot of his videos and whatnot. And like, my gosh, sh the line for her was crazy. but Liz: Really? KENT: I had to go out with Jay, escort her in, get her all set up at the table, and then I'm like, I gotta go back. I got Go help the K pop team and hunters. So it was it was busy. It was fun. There's so much stuff. You know, the Lego booth, the Marvel booth had all the Doctor Doom stuff. Mattel had K pop stuff and they had my gosh. Liz: Yes, I saw that they've d released a whole line as well. KENT: Yeah, and then that was fun because Andrew and Jay wanted to walk around a little bit. So we walked around and they saw their dolls action figures. We'll call them instead of dolls, we'll call them action figures. And it was funny because Andrew's is really big. He has like a one by twelve, and then Jay's was little tiny. And and Jay was like, why is your action figure bigger than mine? And he's like, I have a bigger role. But those two are funny. They're like best friends. they didn't know each other before the K pop, but they've gotten to know each other. You can they're best friends. They're awesome. That was Jay's first signing, too. Liz: Wow. KENT: He'd never done it. did an amazing job at it, natural at it. you know flew in from Korea first appearance ever so people were super excited to get Abby autographs. and there were a lot of people there was one boy, one guy that was dressed as Abbey, like full on and Liz: I've I've seen I've seen the cosplays where they actually KENT: Yeah. Liz: 'cause part of Abby's thing is abs so KENT: Yeah. Liz: he rips open his shirt and has all these fantastic abs. And I've seen cosplays KENT: Yeah. Yeah, that was how the cosplayer did it. Yeah. Liz: that have the T shirt of abs and the open shirt. I mean it's terribly funny. Yeah. KENT: Yeah. We joke with Jay about that. Like, hey, would you ever cosplay as Abby? And he's like, he's he's he's lean already, so it wouldn't Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: be hard for him. But we're like, Would you dye your hair? And he's like, Yeah. So I was like, well, we can get you like a magenta wig to wear and then a yellow beanie to put on top. So yeah. It's crazy. Yeah. Liz: Yes, well well I'm I'm very excited that you got to meet and hang out with those two. I've met Danny Chung, who's baby Saja, and Alan Lee, KENT: Yeah, yeah. Liz: who was the voice of Mystery Saja. So and Mae Hong, who is the speaking KENT: what didn't you mean Mayho Mei Mehanka is Liz: voice of Ugh Wait, hang on. She yeah, she's one of the hunters. KENT: Yeah, which character? Come on, Kate. She's one of the demon slayers. Liz: my goodness. KENT: Mm-hmm. Yep. See you're brain farting. Liz: No, now I'm really embarrassed. Hang on. 'Cause I haven't that is KENT: Yeah, but you know, while you're thinking about it, like there was there was this wheelchair company that was next to us. and they just well, I'm gonna try to show you. They had a wheelchair. That was made up on Derpy? Is that what's a character? Okay. Yeah, Liz: Derpy. Yeah, that's the name of the blue tiger, yeah. KENT: they had that and they had the this from Star Wars. These are wheelchairs. Yeah, it's like crazy. they even had a one piece. Liz: Where does the person go? KENT: They sit they're behind them, but look at this one piece one that they created. Yeah, they had a ship Liz: a ship? Funny. KENT: and stuff like that. yeah, it was crazy. Eddie McClintock was there. He he had a panel with Chris Katan. Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: so I got to see Eddie. Talk with him for a little bit. I'm just kind of going scrolling through some of my pictures. down. you know, the bay the other big thing was Johnny Depth showed up on Thursday. Liz: Really? KENT: Yeah, they had this set with the snow and everything outside, an another pop-up outside on fifth, right across from the hard rock. You just pop up and stuff like that, and it says Ebenezer Scrooge. On it and stuff like that. Liz: Is he doing a Christmas carol? KENT: He's doing a movie as Ebenezer Liz: Really? KENT: Scrooge. Yeah. Google it. Like, go on Instagram, YouTube, whatever. Just type Johnny Depp, San Diego Comic-Con. There's so many videos. Like, there's one Liz: Wow. KENT: where they found all the different cosplayers that dressed up like Johnny Depp from like Edward Scissorhands or Alice in Wonderland Liz: Really? KENT: or Pirates of the Caribbean. And then he's Ebenezer Scrooge. interacting with him and he's like, What's your name? And the guy's like, check. And he's like, prove it. Like, and he's like, he can't prove it. And he's like, yo, there, you know, Edward Scissorhands, how do you how do you use the bathroom? And he goes frequently, goes, I'm sorry that you hurt yourself, something it was just just Liz: Yeah. KENT: fun fan interaction, which was awesome. just to see that, I could talk about the IGN party. so many people showed up for that. and then of course they let the they somebody leaked the link to IGN party. So there were people lined up blocks trying to get in. Yeah, it was crazy. yeah, see here's An there's me and Andrew. Yeah, Liz: Nice. KENT: and then here's me and Jay. If you're watching the YouTube, you can see it. If you're not on the podcast, I'm just showing her the demon hunter singers. Liz: Okay, you send me those pictures. KENT: I you know I don't take a lot of pictures of cosplayers and stuff because Liz: Yeah. KENT: just they're This was the funniest one ever. two guys dressed up as Will Farrell and who was it? It was Blades of Glory. I wish this picture came in better. Liz: No it's no it I can see it gosh how silly KENT: Yeah, they just as the two guy and the ice skaters blades of glory. And so they're like one, two, three, and they literally jump up and do the posts. It was hilarious. I I literally laughed so I laughed so hard. I'm like, I have to take a picture of this because there's no way anybody's gonna believe it. But yeah. It was crazy. Liz: Amazing. KENT: Star Wars stuff everywhere, labo boo stuff everywhere. Liz: No, no KENT: And again, yeah, me and Peter over here, Mr. Fatsanelle. Liz: Yeah. KENT: Talking to British Liz. Fake British Liz. but yeah, yeah. While I was there, there's Liz: Yes. KENT: again there were so many people there. I met the guitarist of Pearl Jam, Mike. Yeah. he was there. we waited because Andrew Choi is very big about music, obviously. He's writ he's written over 200 songs. Two hundred Liz: No way. Well. KENT: songs. Like he's he's a writer of songs, but Yeah, he really wanted to meet him. So we walked over there and did that and stuff, but there was just my gosh, so much stuff. Like It was fun. It was fun. If you've never been, you have to jump into the lottery system to get tickets to go to to just do it. Liz: And actually now would be the time to be getting yourself on those lists. KENT: Yeah, go to San Diego comic s dcc dot org. Liz: It's Comic Con it's or is it Comic Con International dot org? That's one of those. KENT: Comic Con International. You know, what, you know, that was the other thing that you just brought up is Comic Con International. So what San Diego, you know, has the licensing and stuff like that. And there is the San Diego sign outside, the international one. but there was another one right next to it. This one. It says Malaga. Inter. Liz: Yes, in Spain. KENT: In Spain, and guess who's going in October? Liz: I wonder. Hey, you should go to that one and I'll go on the cruise for you. I think that makes sense. KENT: Okay. There you go. Actually the cruise is two weeks later, so sorry. my gosh. But yeah, it Liz: Hey, I tried. I tried. KENT: yeah, I got to see that. I was like, my goodness, I'm actually going. So I had to take a picture in front of the Malaga Spain Comic Con sign just because Liz: Yeah, you need to get brush up on your high school Spanish, right? KENT: my gosh. And then just there's also many other things to do around there. I did a Korean barbecue while I was there, and just good food, good drinks, just relaxed, had fun, long days. Yeah. Again, San Diego is obeying. That's why it's like this episode is like gonna be an hour long Liz: Yeah, we've just KENT: because Liz: spent an hour talking about one show because there is just so much going on. KENT: Well, and some shows deserve that. Like if I went to New York, I would do an episode just on New York. Or if I went to MegaCon, I would just do an episode on that. Or, you know, one of the episodes we will talk about is Dragon Con. there's so much to talk about those shows that people Liz: There's much, much, much to talk about. KENT: just don't know. now I would tell you, and you were there, Liz, in San Diego with with Liz: Mm-hmm. KENT: the Lodge. Remember Paramount Lodge, Liz: Yeah. KENT: and we got in. Liz: Yes. KENT: And it was fun. It was i very interactive and stuff like that. Still the same, more of a social media take pictures kind of a thing now. They got the bars and the food and stuff like that. Liz: That was the the one that had all the Star Trek stuff, right? KENT: No, that was the the Paramount one that had like the nineteen twenty-three and stuff like that and Liz: yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Mm-hmm. KENT: so well this year it was different. but the line to get into the Paramount Lodge outside, I have a video. No joke. I started videoing it and I walked all from where it is up on up fifth. And I did a video and I walked all the way down past the hard rock to the end of the line and it and I walked fast. It took me two minutes of video to show the Liz: Wow. KENT: line of people standing in line at eight o'clock in the morning just to get into the lodge. Liz: At eight o'clock. When did it open? Ugh It's crazy. KENT: And that line never stopped. The line never stopped. Yes. There were things that people Liz: But if a KENT: stood in line. Again, Hall H two days of your time just to get in Hall H. Would you do that? No. Me personally? No. Other people? Tell me why you would do that. Liz: But it's but it's it's a bucket list. That con is a bucket list for so many people, you know. KENT: Okay. Yeah. And I get it. I mean, sorry, I've been doing it since ninety three, haven't missed Liz: Yeah. KENT: except COVID. So yeah, it to me, I've been in there in the heyday and but yeah, I get it. I get it. People want to have that experience. They want to do that. Liz: Yeah, you I mean you you save you save you arrange it's gonna be the con that you go to. And you know w we see cons every weekend, so it's especially huge, but KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: we see cons all the time. But for some people it's like they're one KENT: Hmm. This is our bucket list. Liz: yeah. They're one thing that before KENT: Yeah. Liz: they die, they want to go to San Diego Comic Con, they wanna be the geek they wanna be, you know. And and it's it it is. KENT: But it's hard to get into San Diego Comic Con because they cap the tickets. And if you don't sign up for the general lottery pick, it's hard to get it. Because again, it I remember when you could buy your ticket at the door and then walk around the booth to the next one and buy next year's ticket. Right on the spot and then be like, great, I got next year's. And then it evolved and changed. Liz: Well for for me yeah. for me I I knew that I would probably never get a ticket, so I went the volunteer route. If you volunteer KENT: Which is a great way to get into San Diego 'cause you know, you're doing what, four sh hour shift? Liz: Three hours at the time. So three hours KENT: Okay, so a three hour shift. Liz: and then you get to enjoy the calm the rest of the day. Absolute bargain. Yeah. KENT: Yeah, so they give you a pass for the day. So say you volunteer for Thursday, you work from like, I don't know, eight o'clock to eleven o'clock. Three hours. Liz: And then you just enjoy the calm the rest of the day, yeah. KENT: And yeah, and then you get the rest of the day. So literally and the doors don't open till ten or nine thirty. So if you do the early shift, like I know you did, you were working what, eight o'clock to eleven o'clock? Liz: Something like I think it varied, but then it KENT: Yeah Liz: was like, Well, I want to attend this thing. KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: So that's in the morning, so I'll do the shift in the afternoon. You know, that kind of yeah. KENT: Right, right. But that was each day, you know, and some people just want to go for a day. They could volunteer for three hours. Just say they did the early shift from eight to eleven. That's three hours, right? Eight, nine, ten, eleven. Yep. Had to do my math there. but you know, and then from eleven to seven o'clock, they have access to the rest of the con. Like, there are ways of attending San Diego Comic-Con without having to go broke. Liz: Yeah. And and like I said, there is the the year long wait list for it. You know, you have to kind of register and then you're not even valid to to volunteer till the following year, at very least. KENT: Well, you you Right, right. But tickets go usually on sale in November. October, November, it depends. They always do Liz: And they're not they're not super expensive, are they? Are they? KENT: If you get all five days, it is well, eighty dollars each Liz: 'Cause I've KENT: day. Liz: well to me that's not huge. I mean KENT: Eighty times four. Liz: yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, yes, it's it's a lot, but KENT: And then sixty for a preview night. Liz: but for but for what you're getting, this giant experience, I would have thought it would be two KENT: Sure. It's massive. Liz: hundred bucks a day. So I think it's reasonable. KENT: Don't give Comic Con San Diego any other ideas or ammunition. Liz. Listeners Liz: Yeah. Okay. KENT: will be upset you. Liz: Yeah, I I feel sure that they're going to listen to me, you know, and raise KENT: Yeah. Liz: their prices because of me. KENT: well, and that's the other thing that was announced is San Diego Comic Con will be around till 2030. They always threaten to leave, but they announced I don't know. I Liz: Yeah, every year they there's rumours they're gonna leave. KENT: don't know. How could you leave San Diego and still be San Diego Comic Con? Like, come on, guys, please. But they announced publicly on everywhere, we're here till 2030. They have a contract for 2030. So Liz: Excellent. KENT: Yeah. They just the con has grown so much that they actually have done two expansions to the convention center because of San Diego Comic Con. Liz: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it put San Diego Convention Center on the map for sure. KENT: it did. It did. But yeah. my gosh. There's so much more I could probably talk about that I'm not thinking of. But yeah, just Instagram, Facebook. You just gotta type San Diego Comic Con and you will see the mass amount of videos. Liz: yeah. KENT: you know, the one I liked was this one guy I walked around and interviewed all the different cosplayers and asked them, What do you do for a living? Which was awesome to see because there were architects, there was a a lady of a CEO. She was a CEO of a big company. There was school teachers, there was nurses and doctors, there were students, there were like the just the list went on. And it's just like, you know, just because they cosplay doesn't mean they're weird or anything. These are very predominant, you know, engineers and Liz: Yeah. KENT: marketing people and salespeople and teachers and nurses and doctors and CEOs of Fortune five hundred companies and stuff like that. You know that attend San Diego Comic Con. Even the the CEO of Disney was walking around. San Liz: Really? KENT: Diego Comic Con. Yep. No, no. That would have been funny if he was dressed up as Mickey or Goofy and golly. Like Liz: In costume Yeah Mickey Mail, so KENT: That would have been funny. But no, no, like there were so many people. It it's a Bohemoth or Beer Moth. Liz: Be a moth. KENT: Beer moth events that people gotta attend just to have fun and enjoy it. you will take lots of pictures. You it is the one place I guarantee you will see a celebrity somewhere, whether you're attending or just outside. You will see somebody. we know so many people. Like I was just walking and people were yelling out my name. Ad Adam MacArthur of the voice asked actor McCl McCluster, McGah, he saw me and I was like, my god from Jiu Jitsu Kaisan. that's why I know him from but I see him everywhere and just know him as Adam and he's like, Hey cat and he's like running into the convention center as I was leaving. So You will see amazing people. You had a great experience the two years you did it. so Liz: Mm-hmm. well I though my feet did not express their happiness to me, they were KENT: Well, like you tell people, bring an extra pair of socks. Liz: Yeah. KENT: you know, have the list of con bag that from Liz that we had in our earlier episodes. Yeah, like listen to that 'cause now we're Liz: It was episode four, I think that was. Yeah, just KENT: counting. Liz: But it yeah, it i I mean everything we've said, you know, take supplies, plan in advance, you know, bring bring cash for autographs, use the guide, use the website. The apps, yeah. KENT: Use the event guide, use the apps. I I usually just don't do the apps at something big like that because the Wi-Fi is so terrible. Terrible. Yeah. Liz: of course it would be. I mean it's always terrible everywhere, but there, squared. KENT: Yep. Yep. my gosh. Liz: Well can't KENT: I'm exhausted. I I know I talked mo majority of this. You were asking lots of questions, but you know, and it's cause I was there. But you've been there and we just wanted Liz: But just yeah, just it KENT: our listeners to to know San Diego. Liz: It's a monster and it is a lot of fun. It can be too much. It I actually felt it was too much for me, which is why I haven't gone back. It was just too much. KENT: Okay. So we have a friend that wants to go. What would you what tip would you give her for attending or wanting to go or do San Diego Comic Con? Liz: I would say, I mean, f it worked for me, KENT: Yeah. Liz: apply to be on on the volunteer list and then apply to be a volunteer and probably won't happen the first year. So if you've got a couple of years to wait, I would do it that way because it is free admission with standing and holding a sign that says this way for three hours. KENT: Yeah, giving directions, being in line control, whatever. You might be ev you might even get picked to give out swag. Liz: I've done that. I've done that too. Stuffing bags and handing them out. you know, and it's KENT: Yeah. Stuff in my see, there you go. See, you forgot. Liz: it's just it's just easy jobs, you know. The again, the worst thing is gonna be on your feet the whole time. KENT: Mm-hmm. Liz: But it's it's fine, and then I was able to enjoy the con for each day I volunteered. That was great. So for me KENT: Okay. Yeah, yeah. Liz: that's what worked. if if you can you know, be on a lottery to to get a ticket, that's great, but it's risky because you just might not be able to. So KENT: And reach out some of the vendors need help too. So if you have a Liz: that's true. Because you've worked KENT: contact with one of the vendors, you could say, Hey, do you need help? I'll I'll work all the sh you know, and you you're gonna work, but they might give you a break so you can walk around a little bit and and do stuff. So yeah. Liz: Yeah. Yeah. 'Cause I mean that's how you started, right? You said you were at the hallmark s desk I mean back back in the day, back in the nineties. KENT: I'd help out with a Hallmark. I dress Yeah, I would dress up as a stormtrooper because the Five O First always volunteered to help out the booths with Star Wars and stuff like that. And then I kept volunteering to help the Hallmark booth and so they kept wanting me to come back each year. So yeah. Liz: Okay. Yeah, it's not it's not quite that casual anymore. It's much more of a giant machine with many moving parts. KENT: It was crazy. Liz: But thank you for sharing all of that. That's I've got so much KENT: Who Liz: to go back and look up online and see videos of. KENT: Yeah, go back, look up online, find some stuff that we didn't talk about, and we can add that into our next episode or whatnot. I know I'm off to do another show this week in Knoxville. So it's a Liz: Another dog's wheel shoe? KENT: creepy con. I don't do horror. So this will be fun. Liz: He neither, but I I have done them. 'Cause it's 'cause it's work, right? KENT: Yeah, I mean I don't I I don't complain 'cause I get to work with some amazing people. This one I'm working with the band GWAR. G W A R GWAR. Liz: I don't know them. KENT: Yeah. Just Google You'll find them out. Listeners, Google Gwar. It they're heavy Liz: More Googling. Okay. KENT: metal, but they cosplay and stuff like that. So the fans love it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. that's crazy. Liz: yes. Well that'll be fun. KENT: So yeah. I'm looking forward to that. That's in Knoxville. How about you? You got any show this week? Liz: not this weekend but the following weekend in August I'm gonna be in Dallas at KENT: Okay. Ooh. Liz: the third Rebel Scum. which is a Star Wars specific con. KENT: Yeah, yeah. Our good friend Chris Bartlett will be there. Liz: Is he there this year? He's he's been he's been the last yeah, he's been the last two years. KENT: I thought it would be. He was there last year. Yeah. Okay. I'd be surprised if he's not. Liz: but they've got see Bryce Dallas Howard is gonna be there. John Boyega. Junus something who plays Junus. He plays Chewbacca now. Eunice, yeah. Do you know him? Yeah. KENT: Yonis Yonis Yonis Yonis I've worked with him. Liz: Okay. So how do you pronounce his last name? KENT: I don't know how to say I just knew his first name was Jonas. Liz: Okay. KENT: 'Cause it's European. It's Dutch. Yeah, something like that. Nice guy. Super tall. Of course, because he's Chewbacca. Yeah, yeah. Liz: Yes, yes, yes. So well yes, because he's Chewbacca. so yeah, got a bunch of actors from The Mandalorian and and also people that have been crew on the Star Wars movies, model makers, toy designers, set designers, KENT: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Liz: and I I need to double check this, but I think One of the peop one of the guests is gonna be the lady that designed hair for the original trilogy. And I think KENT: That's a lot of work. Liz: yes, I I mean cinema buns, right? KENT: Ooh. Yeah, cinnamon buns, yeah. Liz: But I understand that you can book an appointment to get your hair done by her. Is that not the best thing ever? If I had hair, I would be all over it. But I have no hair. KENT: She can put a wig on you. Liz: Why not a wig? I she'd actually do your hair in cinema dance. So very exciting. Yeah, you know, the layer hair. KENT: Cinnamon buns, is that what you said? I know. Liz: Isn't that what it yeah, anyway. So KENT: Yeah, just punch. Liz: so very unusual to have somebody so many artists and craftspeople from the movies KENT: Yeah. Yeah. Liz: and and so it's really, really fan centric. I mean it people go and they really know their stuff. So it's it's an honor to be KENT: There you go. Rebels scum. Liz: yeah, honor to be part of that con since beginning, since third year. And yeah. So that's where I'm gonna be, in Hot Texas. KENT: Awesome. Hot old Texas. Yay. Yeah. Liz: Dallas, yeah. KENT: Well, awesome. Well, when we get back, we will have to talk about those and share it with our subscribers and stuff. Cause you know, they're look I you know, somebody was like, my gosh, you got a Facebook, you got a TikTok, you got a Instagram, we have a YouTube channel. and then of course we got our podcast on different things like Spotify and Apple and Amazon. I think there's another one we're attempting to get onto as well. So Liz: I think art heart iHeart Radio is one of them as well. Yeah. KENT: iHeartRadio, that's right. There we go. See, I can't keep track of it. We're just expanding. We're just trying, we're Liz: How can I? KENT: just doing this because we love it. We we'd love to hear from our subscribers, you know. Liz: for our favourite celebrities and now we're working the cons every other weekend or every weekend and it's just too much fun. Very KENT: Always Liz: fun. KENT: that's why we share this stuff. Cause listen, like I was just telling a friend in San Diego, listen, I created this because we talk all the time and we're sharing our stories back and forth, and we're like, my gosh, so other and one of our friends was like, Other people should hear this stuff because it's funny, and then the stuff that goes on, like that's crazy. So we're like, Okay, conversations with coffee. I'll have to tell you. One of my friends was like, I'm glad it's not cons with coffee. Cause and they're like, It sounds like there's a bunch of jailbirds having coffee, you know. And I was like, Liz: Yeah. KENT: That's why it's conversation, you know, because conversation starts with a comic con, like con. So Liz: But we are also cons with coffee. KENT: well our yes, our tags, our social media is that because I don't want to spell out conversation every single time, so Liz: That would be kind of a drag. KENT: That would be a drag. Well, Liz, I think I I Liz: Always a pleasure, my dear. KENT: always, always I'm gonna go get some more coffee. even though it's like ninety five out. But thank you for letting me share a little bit about San Diego. I know it brings back old memories for you. Liz: Yes, it makes makes me wanna go back and makes me wanna go back and and KENT: Twenty twenty seven. Liz at San Diego Comic Con, Liz: Two KENT: maybe getting a press pass. Liz: We could do that, couldn't we? KENT: And we could do a live show and we could bring some of our celebrity friends or people we know to come and talk live. I'm just given ideas. Fans, I mean Liz: No. KENT: subscribers, if you like that idea, put it in the comments. Tell Liz that's a good idea, kid. Liz: I think it's a good idea. So, KENT: Kent had a good idea. Liz: so everyone, if you agree with Kent's fantastic idea, let's do it. KENT: Yes. But here's the thing. Our subscribers need to tell their friends and their family or their Comic-Con friends to listen to this or watch it on YouTube so that we can get more people watching and listening and laughing. One of my fr I have to share this before we go. One of my friends said they were listening to us and they were drinking coffee or milk and they laughed so hard they almost hit it out on their friend and they're like, my gosh, you guys are hilarious. It's just a what you know, two-person Liz: And we have a KENT: show trying to edit and do all this stuff. So my gosh. We got live, Liz: Yeah. And and we have a a list of guests that we've got lined up. KENT: we got topics. my gosh. Like we just did Liz: Yeah. KENT: an episode. We were talking about doing the top ten movies.
