- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to Patriot.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's unfiltered. Yeah, I mean, I broke my hand playing football,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and I played ping pong that night. Didn't know I
- 0:18Speaker 1: broke my hand until later, right through a round of
- 0:20Speaker 1: ping pong. No ideas, because it's a man man. I
- 0:23Speaker 1: just had this vision of Brady and you know, the
- 0:25Speaker 1: old Wild West, pulling around that cart with the earl
- 0:27Speaker 1: and magic TP twelve elexers and are focus is going
- 0:31Speaker 1: to cure all your iel. They don't want it, obvious.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's a cover up, Paul, It's a cover up. Putting
- 0:36Speaker 1: one hundred dollars in every game to win one hundred
- 0:39Speaker 1: and ten, win a hundred, that's what you have to do, right,
- 0:41Speaker 1: So you're losing ten, you know, you're only winning ninety. Yeah, No,
- 0:44Speaker 1: you'll win one hundred, you'll lose one hundred and ten. Yeah,
- 0:46Speaker 1: that's how it works. I see the look she just
- 0:49Speaker 1: gave ball. Yeah, because you lost the Jackson right, Yeah,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I had that mark all right, all right too at
- 0:55Speaker 1: four thirty seven enough handle, that's that's straight up against
- 1:00Speaker 1: the Chargers. Are in the oven. I opened the door.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I look in and say, they're not ready. This is
- 1:06Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, it is Tuesday
- 1:13Speaker 1: here and Patriots Unfiltered Welcome to jes one of your
- 1:16Speaker 1: best ones ever. Mat so frustrated. We got a lot
- 1:22Speaker 1: to unpack here, a lot to talk about. A disappointing
- 1:26Speaker 1: end to the season, I would say, regular season. Yeah, um,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I I thought they'd go down there and put up
- 1:32Speaker 1: more of a show than they did, especially early. But
- 1:35Speaker 1: we've got to unpack that. We've got to unpack the
- 1:37Speaker 1: rest of the NFL. We've got to start looking forward
- 1:40Speaker 1: to these wild cut Wildcard game in Buffalo Saturday night.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Lots going on, lots going on there is Yeah, quick
- 1:48Speaker 1: turnaround to Saturday. Yeah, let's go, let's just get to it. Yep.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah like it Saturday night of Buffalo. Sounds it's gonna
- 1:55Speaker 1: be cold again. Yeah old, not windy again, but cold
- 1:59Speaker 1: at the Yeah weather for you, Fred, Yeah, okay, it's
- 2:02Speaker 1: been going around. Sure, the weather's been going around. Yeah
- 2:05Speaker 1: that's what they've been just fifteen and been seeing. Lastly.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It's gonna be cold night, arctic and arctic. What was
- 2:11Speaker 1: that thing help the arc last last? Yeah, anyway, let's
- 2:15Speaker 1: let's uh, let's start with the game. Yeah, not good,
- 2:20Speaker 1: just I mean the twenty twenty one bad Patriots on display.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And that's how I think started the post game show
- 2:27Speaker 1: of I mean, this is who they are now. I
- 2:28Speaker 1: mean it's hard to you know, sit there and tell
- 2:31Speaker 1: you like, oh, they're gonna turn it around and hang
- 2:33Speaker 1: forty and and oh yeah we'll get John dou And
- 2:35Speaker 1: to kill Harry going in Buffalo and that they'll be
- 2:37Speaker 1: fire and all the sudden like that's not gonna happen.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It's you know, the penalties, the slow starts. I mean,
- 2:43Speaker 1: it's just I think it was fifteen plays in, you're
- 2:45Speaker 1: down fourteen nothing, and you know everything they said last week,
- 2:47Speaker 1: mccordy specifically saying, hey, we're we're treating this like a
- 2:50Speaker 1: warm up for the playoff game. We're gonna go down there.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It's gonna be a tough game. We're gonna see, you
- 2:54Speaker 1: know what, what preparations got to be like for when
- 2:56Speaker 1: we get into the postseason. And you know, so all
- 2:58Speaker 1: these words are bringing it's as simple as they're starting
- 3:02Speaker 1: to play tougher teams down the stretch or somewhere along
- 3:06Speaker 1: the line they lost focus. Yeah, I can't answer that one.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I do think it's partly that um, but I also
- 3:13Speaker 1: think that they just don't really look like they've got it, Like,
- 3:16Speaker 1: they don't look like they want they've wanted to be
- 3:18Speaker 1: out there the last you know, three out of the
- 3:20Speaker 1: last four games that they've lost. It just looks like
- 3:22Speaker 1: they don't really have that fire and energy that you
- 3:25Speaker 1: want to have at the end of the season. And
- 3:27Speaker 1: that's you know what's what's depressing. Are they suddenly gonna
- 3:29Speaker 1: find it in Buffalo? I don't. I mean, it's probably
- 3:32Speaker 1: a long shot. I don't rule it out, but I
- 3:34Speaker 1: think we all know right now what the game has
- 3:36Speaker 1: to look like for them to win, and it has
- 3:37Speaker 1: to involve Josh all, I'm not playing great and the
- 3:39Speaker 1: Patriots like taking the ball, maybe scarring a touchdown. But
- 3:49Speaker 1: I don't. But that's I agree with Mike, and I
- 3:52Speaker 1: don't rule it up because I've seen them play clean football.
- 3:56Speaker 1: You know, It's it's pretty much half and half. Now.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You could be a pessimist and say, yeah, well they
- 4:00Speaker 1: play clean football against bad teams, and you wouldn't be wrong. Yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I mean the evidence of the seventeen games Jets is
- 4:08Speaker 1: kind of a split between when they when they take
- 4:12Speaker 1: care of the ball, they generally did it against the
- 4:15Speaker 1: Jets or the Jags, or you know those kinds of teams,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, in teams that were overmatched Carolina, Atlanta, you know, Cleveland.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You know, Cleveland was another one. But I think we've
- 4:29Speaker 1: seen enough evidence that when they're not their own worst enemy,
- 4:34Speaker 1: they can compete with anybody. And even while not playing
- 4:38Speaker 1: perfect games against the likes of Dallas, Tampa, Buffalo, you know,
- 4:46Speaker 1: they've been competitive. Now. I understand that some people might hear, like,
- 4:51Speaker 1: especially me, saying things like that like this is where
- 4:54Speaker 1: we've come where you know, thumbs up, we're competitive. No,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I'm not saying that. I'm saying I think that they
- 5:01Speaker 1: they should know that if they can get out of
- 5:03Speaker 1: their own way, that they'll have a chance to win
- 5:06Speaker 1: on Saturday night, right, And I think they will. I
- 5:09Speaker 1: think they will have a chance to win Saturday Night.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I was listening to one of your shows this morning, Paul,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and they were saying, you know, in order for the
- 5:16Speaker 1: Patriots to win this game, John uh Mac Jones is
- 5:20Speaker 1: gonna have to win it. For him. I disagree. The
- 5:23Speaker 1: defense is going to have to win. Yes, I think
- 5:25Speaker 1: I agree with you. I think Mac Jones just needs
- 5:28Speaker 1: to write, not lose it for him and stay out
- 5:30Speaker 1: of the way. And I mean, I think the formula
- 5:33Speaker 1: is Stevenson and Harris. I mean, those two guys won
- 5:35Speaker 1: two punch, keep Mac and third and manageable and and
- 5:39Speaker 1: just do what they've done when they've won those games
- 5:41Speaker 1: to stay on time. And you know, it's just it's
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's just strange to me because you see Indianapolis loose
- 5:48Speaker 1: to Jacksonville and you know, just as an example, like
- 5:52Speaker 1: the Patriots, why did the Patriots absolutely hammer terrible teams,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but they look this bad against good teams, Like it's
- 6:00Speaker 1: just you know, they don't even really play. I mean
- 6:02Speaker 1: maybe Houston was one game where they played kind of
- 6:05Speaker 1: down to the competitions, you know, so to speak. But
- 6:07Speaker 1: it's just strange they like you see they put fifty
- 6:10Speaker 1: points up how many times, like you know, maybe this
- 6:12Speaker 1: is just like at the end of the game and
- 6:13Speaker 1: they just keep hammering it. But it's just such a
- 6:15Speaker 1: strange thing where you see so many teams that you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: lose to Jacksonville or you know, Buffalo lost to Jackson
- 6:21Speaker 1: have those kind of brain fark games. Patriots didn't really
- 6:23Speaker 1: have one of those brain fark games. But they couldn't
- 6:26Speaker 1: really beat any of the good teams this year either.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know, Thats just it's a strange kind of disparager
- 6:30Speaker 1: where you think, like, well, they'll get they'll beat one,
- 6:32Speaker 1: they'll win one of these good tough games that you
- 6:34Speaker 1: know they'll they'll get Indie on the road, or they'll
- 6:36Speaker 1: get Buffalo second. But they never really got those, and
- 6:38Speaker 1: they just kind of beat who they were supposed to beat,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and they kind of got outplayed by anybody who had
- 6:43Speaker 1: a pull swell. Three and seven against teams with winning records,
- 6:46Speaker 1: you know, I think it's two and is it two
- 6:48Speaker 1: and three against playoff teams? Three and seven against winning records,
- 6:52Speaker 1: because you know, teams that didn't make the playoffs, like
- 6:55Speaker 1: New Orleans, like Miami. You know, the Chargers as a
- 6:59Speaker 1: team that beat right, didn't that was on the edge.
- 7:02Speaker 1: That's so they so Mike's point, they didn't farewell when
- 7:06Speaker 1: the other team had a chance to hit back. Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: And I think it was in Game two where it
- 7:11Speaker 1: was you know, you just didn't see a lot of
- 7:13Speaker 1: resolve of and I think I went through it yesterday.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I mean all seven losses they had a chance at
- 7:18Speaker 1: the end, they were within a score or they took
- 7:20Speaker 1: the lead and the defense couldn't get a stop. I mean,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you just list them right down of all seven games
- 7:25Speaker 1: where you know they have they have chances. And I
- 7:27Speaker 1: think that that, for me is like the headline of it. All.
- 7:30Speaker 1: The offense is what it is. It was new guys,
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's a rookie quarterback, all those things. But I just
- 7:33Speaker 1: think the veteran defense is what really really is most
- 7:36Speaker 1: disappointing to me now is how they faded and they
- 7:39Speaker 1: haven't really been able to give the offense a chance
- 7:41Speaker 1: even really in a lot of these games that they lost.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And I'm not buying the lack of effort thing. I
- 7:46Speaker 1: am so tired of the flat thing. Yeah, they're they're
- 7:49Speaker 1: out there trying. I think they're either lined up wrong
- 7:52Speaker 1: or they're you know, it's executing wrong. But I think
- 7:56Speaker 1: the effort is there. I don't I'm not questioning that
- 7:59Speaker 1: at all at all. No, I have maybe have a
- 8:02Speaker 1: little different perspective on it because I was one of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the few who had them with a losing record. To
- 8:07Speaker 1: go into this season. But to me, no, but to me,
- 8:10Speaker 1: they like, as I look at the schedule, they they
- 8:16Speaker 1: had I had them going seven and ten. They end
- 8:19Speaker 1: up ten and seven. As you predicted correctly, Fred, there
- 8:23Speaker 1: were three games that were different than what I had
- 8:25Speaker 1: originally predicted. That. No, but I did. I did say
- 8:29Speaker 1: ten and seven. He did, he did, he did say
- 8:31Speaker 1: ten and seven. What did I say? Just out of curiosity,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think you said you said eight and nine or
- 8:35Speaker 1: nine and eight. I said nine or ten wins? Yeah? Um,
- 8:38Speaker 1: But there were three games made the difference. Uh, the
- 8:42Speaker 1: Charger game where Herbert threw the interception at the end
- 8:44Speaker 1: when they were winning, totally blew it for them. The
- 8:48Speaker 1: Browns got covid on mass and had no players, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: the and mother nature stepped in the Buffalo game, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: Buffalo still should have won the game. They had the
- 8:57Speaker 1: ball inside the twenty and couldn't convert. Those three games
- 9:00Speaker 1: were the difference. Otherwise, in my eyes, they were the
- 9:05Speaker 1: exact team that I thought they were going to be.
- 9:07Speaker 1: They beat teams they were supposed to beat, and they
- 9:09Speaker 1: lost to all the good teams. Yeah, I mean I
- 9:11Speaker 1: think those three games, I think that's one way to
- 9:14Speaker 1: look at that. You could say that I think that's. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I don't think that's unfair. Now, it's I think it's
- 9:18Speaker 1: an overly pessimistic look at it, which you know, far
- 9:21Speaker 1: be it for me to criticize people for being over
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean you can also go the other way and
- 9:25Speaker 1: say a few things that they could have been twelve
- 9:28Speaker 1: and no. But because I look at, my point is
- 9:31Speaker 1: that good teams do that. But you're right, and that's
- 9:34Speaker 1: you're right, and I think you generally end up around
- 9:36Speaker 1: where you where you probably should. But I think to
- 9:40Speaker 1: Fred's point, like it had nothing to do with Indianapolis,
- 9:45Speaker 1: that Brandon King jumps offside on a missed field goal,
- 9:49Speaker 1: ye like, which is three huge points yep, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: like in that could be the difference of the game. Now,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'm not saying that they should have won the game
- 9:56Speaker 1: and they shouldn't have won that game and all of
- 9:58Speaker 1: these games like, for the most part, I think the
- 10:01Speaker 1: defense I think deserves every bit of scorn that you
- 10:05Speaker 1: should have seen Mike on Sunday. By the way, if
- 10:06Speaker 1: you think he's bad to that, the defense deserves the
- 10:09Speaker 1: criticism I think that it's receiving. I'm just a little
- 10:13Speaker 1: tired of well, Mac never gets a chance because the
- 10:17Speaker 1: defense never gets the ball back forward. The reason the
- 10:20Speaker 1: defense can't allow a first down at the end of
- 10:22Speaker 1: the game has generally been because of Mac earlier in
- 10:24Speaker 1: the game. Yeah, like that's part of why you lose
- 10:28Speaker 1: to good team. It's complimentary losing, Yes, just like when
- 10:31Speaker 1: you you compete in all three phases, all three phases
- 10:34Speaker 1: have let them down in the three out of four,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, losses to end of the year. And the
- 10:39Speaker 1: other thing that I don't want to hear anymore is, well,
- 10:42Speaker 1: the penalties come in the most in opportune times. If
- 10:47Speaker 1: you're always tight and you don't have a market for error,
- 10:50Speaker 1: they're always in our and you need to there's never
- 10:54Speaker 1: a good time, right, and you listen, you're gonna get penalties.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You're gonna hold sometimes you're gonna you're gonna get caught
- 11:00Speaker 1: in bad position and get a pass in affairs or
- 11:02Speaker 1: whatever they hurt. What you can't have is Lawrence guy
- 11:06Speaker 1: lining up over the center on a punt on a
- 11:08Speaker 1: rule that's been in place for about ten years, right, Like,
- 11:11Speaker 1: that can't happen, right, And you know what people people
- 11:16Speaker 1: complain a lot about officiating around here, and no one
- 11:18Speaker 1: does it more than I do. As you know, the
- 11:20Speaker 1: play before that Mike Hardy and I were watching was
- 11:24Speaker 1: a ridiculous gift that the officials gave the Patriots. It
- 11:27Speaker 1: was like a third and three and they ran the
- 11:29Speaker 1: ball and it was right near the line to gain
- 11:32Speaker 1: and Jalen Waddle came in and just pushed I think
- 11:35Speaker 1: it was Duke Johnson over the yellow I mean clearly
- 11:38Speaker 1: had the first down. They spotted them like a half
- 11:40Speaker 1: a yard short. They're deep in their own territory with
- 11:43Speaker 1: a big lead, so Flores didn't go for it and
- 11:46Speaker 1: they punted. So you got the break on a spot
- 11:49Speaker 1: and then you give the break right back by lining
- 11:51Speaker 1: up across from the long snapper, which is illegal, and
- 11:55Speaker 1: you give them a first down like that. That's not
- 11:57Speaker 1: an inopportunity penalty. That's dumb, right, Like that's just dumb. Yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 1: And like you could complain about bad calls. I didn't
- 12:04Speaker 1: think the Bolden play was a penalty. Now you want
- 12:08Speaker 1: to fly across the field, launching yourself helmet first at
- 12:10Speaker 1: a guy he missed, right, That's the only reason why
- 12:13Speaker 1: I didn't think it was a penalty. He missed, but
- 12:15Speaker 1: when it tried to do the referees are thinking, that's
- 12:18Speaker 1: what he tried to do. He tried to hit him
- 12:20Speaker 1: with his head. Yeah, he missed. He wanted to. Yeah,
- 12:22Speaker 1: but you don't penalize unintent. No, that's why I think
- 12:25Speaker 1: they shouldn't have called that penalty, right, But I think
- 12:27Speaker 1: they I think they was terrible all around. It was
- 12:30Speaker 1: all Yeah. I thought the pass interference is on the
- 12:32Speaker 1: Dolphins were terrible, and I thought the pass interference on
- 12:34Speaker 1: the Patriots was terrible. The Jude On one was a
- 12:36Speaker 1: good call. Don't touch the quarterback when he doesn't have
- 12:41Speaker 1: the ball. Just keep your hands off of him, right,
- 12:43Speaker 1: That was just dumb, just keeping your hand yourself in
- 12:45Speaker 1: a position where the guy's gonna take a dive and
- 12:47Speaker 1: you're gonna get the call, right, keep your hands off him. Yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: that's that. We were talking a little about joote On upstairs,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and it seems like things snowball with him a little bit.
- 12:56Speaker 1: You know, it doesn't really he's another one. I mean,
- 12:59Speaker 1: they're gonna eat him this weekend. But that that's the
- 13:02Speaker 1: kind of play where this seems like a frustration penalty
- 13:04Speaker 1: where you know, like you know, you're not getting the sack,
- 13:07Speaker 1: the ball's already out, and yeah, you're frustrated. And I
- 13:10Speaker 1: think there's a lot of that going on. I mean,
- 13:12Speaker 1: he's a huge key, especially if I mean, I'm guessing
- 13:14Speaker 1: we're not I know the news was good on Barmore.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't. I still don't know what's
- 13:18Speaker 1: going on. Then, I don't think. So I bet we
- 13:20Speaker 1: don't see him till July. Yeah, I mean, if you
- 13:23Speaker 1: listen to Adrian Phillips after the game, he was literally
- 13:26Speaker 1: in tears saying it was a gruesome injury and he's
- 13:30Speaker 1: praying for his friend. And so I'm thinking, like, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: freaking uh, can I just ask us something on this
- 13:37Speaker 1: on this Adrian phild because I did not see I
- 13:39Speaker 1: don't see this game, Okay, can I just And I'm
- 13:42Speaker 1: being dead serious, I don't know. Are you sure he
- 13:44Speaker 1: was talking about Barmore and not Quadri Digs from Seattle? Oh?
- 13:47Speaker 1: You know what, I don't know. I don't know. I
- 13:51Speaker 1: assume because I turned around and goes, he's talking about
- 13:53Speaker 1: Barmow right now, said yeah, because you sent you sent
- 13:56Speaker 1: a text about that, and I had because we're doing
- 13:57Speaker 1: the show, so we're not privy to all of the
- 13:59Speaker 1: post audio as had happened, because he did talk about
- 14:03Speaker 1: digs and Quadriy Diggs, by all accounts, suffered in absolutely
- 14:06Speaker 1: horrific like dislocated ankle, broken tibia, kind of maybe a
- 14:10Speaker 1: horrible maybe I got maybe totally you know, And I'm
- 14:13Speaker 1: just I'm not saying that that's what he was talking about,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but maybe he was referring to dig. Yeah. I was
- 14:17Speaker 1: listening on the bus Seattle Safe. I could have been wrong.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I just thought, oh, jeez, you know Barnmore. Oh my god,
- 14:23Speaker 1: definitely possible, as I did see he was, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 1: had been talking about digs. The Barnmore thing is still strange.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I'm just saying that that particular Philip's angle of it.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It reminded me. And we talked about this yesterday of
- 14:36Speaker 1: the Remember the Gronkowski knee injury in Denver when he
- 14:40Speaker 1: was like rolling on the ground. Yeah, yeah, and he
- 14:44Speaker 1: but he didn't get carted off the field. No, Like
- 14:47Speaker 1: that's the thing that I just Yeah, what I say
- 14:50Speaker 1: is he couldn't put any weight on it too. Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: who knows? Who knows that Maybe he was just scared
- 14:54Speaker 1: in the moment. Maybe he thought he had done something
- 14:57Speaker 1: that maybe he got lucky and this it didn't. It
- 14:59Speaker 1: wasn't bad. But I mean, I understand what Mike is saying.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think, you know, you can't really count on him now,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I wouldn't. Okay. So Chris our webmaster, says he was
- 15:09Speaker 1: talking about Quandry Diggs. Okay, okay, good, yeah, good. Did
- 15:14Speaker 1: you just give me a good no, it's been a while.
- 15:17Speaker 1: What he kind of pointed him, He's like, good, No,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I just kind of raised my hand, give me, give
- 15:22Speaker 1: me a little crap. Good. Thanks, pop. Okay, I'm with
- 15:27Speaker 1: you now. Well, so let's hope. I mean, but dude,
- 15:31Speaker 1: you don't think bar has any shot. I don't know.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That's just my and based on what he looked, I
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't know. Maybe. I mean, Bill said like, I don't know,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I don't I don't rule it out. But he already
- 15:41Speaker 1: had a knee. Yeah that he was. What I rule
- 15:43Speaker 1: out is him being like effective yeah right, yeah, that's
- 15:48Speaker 1: and a huge piece of it. I mean, a team
- 15:51Speaker 1: that loves to pass and he's been your best kind
- 15:53Speaker 1: of interior predator, penetrator guy. It's gonna put more pressure
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think on Jude on to you know, be productive,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and you know, just it's so hard playing Josh Allen
- 16:01Speaker 1: keeping him in there, and then he's got to be
- 16:03Speaker 1: better at that. Jud's got to be more disciplined. And
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's just when I watch him now, it's it seems
- 16:09Speaker 1: like he I don't want to say he doesn't like it,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but it just seems like he's one of those guys
- 16:15Speaker 1: sometimes I wonder where he just wants to go get
- 16:17Speaker 1: the quarterback and stop with the holding up the tackle,
- 16:21Speaker 1: not letting him out, you know, playing controlled like the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Patriots so often asked their guys to do. Um. I
- 16:26Speaker 1: don't know, there's just that I don't know. I don't
- 16:27Speaker 1: know what the reason is for the drop off in
- 16:29Speaker 1: production from him, but I think that's been one of
- 16:31Speaker 1: the one of the keys down the end. I mean
- 16:32Speaker 1: a couple plays by him here down the stretcher. It
- 16:35Speaker 1: might have made a difference in a couple of those
- 16:36Speaker 1: games because he gets held every play. Saw I've got
- 16:40Speaker 1: the receipts. You know. The other thing that I noticed
- 16:43Speaker 1: that I felt Whys had a terrible game. I don't
- 16:45Speaker 1: know if you had him on your bad list, but
- 16:47Speaker 1: he couple penalty He's just not you know, not a
- 16:50Speaker 1: factor in the run game. Why has had penalties? Yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: I think he did any penalty? Yeah he was Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: why why has had a bad game? Uh? And then um,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I thought that. You know, Stevenson got hurt and then
- 17:05Speaker 1: he came back and he looks like the better running
- 17:08Speaker 1: than does of the two. I agree, you know, I'm
- 17:10Speaker 1: saying that for weeks. Yeah, the wide zone running off
- 17:13Speaker 1: the side, I thought that was a fiction. The second medal,
- 17:16Speaker 1: he's just when he gets stuffed up the middle, he
- 17:19Speaker 1: has the ability to bounce it that I don't think
- 17:21Speaker 1: Harris does. Yeah, I like them both. I think they've
- 17:23Speaker 1: both been wildly productive. Yep. I think they've both been
- 17:26Speaker 1: really good mets. I mean, let's face it, it's the
- 17:28Speaker 1: entirety of the offense. Yeah, but I like I like
- 17:31Speaker 1: Stevenson a little more. Yeah. And then Mac, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: he's he's playing more like a rookie now than he did.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And maybe it's because there's more on his shoulders now. Um.
- 17:44Speaker 1: But you know a lot of times, like people will say, oh, no,
- 17:47Speaker 1: one's getting open. He's he's not getting rid of the
- 17:51Speaker 1: ball quick enough. Like there was one player I forget
- 17:54Speaker 1: what was going on. It was the middle of the game,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and um, you know it was it turned out to
- 17:59Speaker 1: be an incomplete pass and everybody said nobody was open.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But I look back on it when Henry came out
- 18:05Speaker 1: of his break and I think, I forget who the
- 18:07Speaker 1: other one. When they came out of the break, they
- 18:09Speaker 1: were open. So if the pass comes with the out
- 18:14Speaker 1: on time, he's gonna have open receivers. He can't wait
- 18:17Speaker 1: for them after the break to just be there and
- 18:19Speaker 1: then the ball comes. He's got to pass these guys open.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And you know that comes from confidence. You know, first
- 18:27Speaker 1: it comes from knowing what the routes are, and I'm
- 18:29Speaker 1: I'm assuming he knows what the routes are going to be.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But then it comes from confidence of just throwing it
- 18:35Speaker 1: before they break, so as they break, the ball arrives
- 18:39Speaker 1: and he's just not doing that. Yeah, it's like I
- 18:41Speaker 1: feel like you get in the league. It's almost you
- 18:43Speaker 1: don't know what you don't know. And I think it
- 18:45Speaker 1: was also new to him and he was able to
- 18:47Speaker 1: maybe just had had less on his mind. And I think,
- 18:50Speaker 1: as you said, it just feels like things have built
- 18:52Speaker 1: up on him and it's a lot and he just
- 18:55Speaker 1: on one hand, you want to see him hit the
- 18:57Speaker 1: reset button, which I'm sure he'll do this offseason. But
- 18:59Speaker 1: it is weird. And we were talking to scal yesterday
- 19:01Speaker 1: about it. It was, you know, you expect it to
- 19:03Speaker 1: be and I think we And I was thinking too, Pat.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I wanted to bring this up because I remember you
- 19:08Speaker 1: talking about the feeling after the nineteen ninety three season
- 19:11Speaker 1: Withdrew and you know, so I was just kind of
- 19:14Speaker 1: thinking generally about, you know, how that season went and
- 19:16Speaker 1: how it ended, and right like they at the end
- 19:19Speaker 1: they started won the last four. Yeah, so you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and I think that's like what you think the narrative
- 19:23Speaker 1: usually should be with a rookie quarterback of oh, well,
- 19:25Speaker 1: he's gonna take some lumps, but then by the end
- 19:28Speaker 1: of the season, it's all gonna be starting to click.
- 19:30Speaker 1: We're gonna see it. And that's what's weird about it
- 19:32Speaker 1: is he looked really good and control early and now
- 19:34Speaker 1: it's seeing That's the worry for me is not necessarily
- 19:38Speaker 1: how he's finishing, because I think it's what you said
- 19:41Speaker 1: at the beginning of the show, Fred, I think it
- 19:43Speaker 1: has a lot to do with the way the schedule fell. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like so it's three of the last four, Well, what
- 19:49Speaker 1: was the the one that well, Mac was great? Matt
- 19:52Speaker 1: one like, so it's not just that Mac went down. No,
- 19:56Speaker 1: he had a tough game against India, a tough game
- 19:58Speaker 1: against Buffalo, played Jacksonville. He was same guy we saw
- 20:01Speaker 1: all year. Then it was tough against Miami. Again, Like,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I worry about their ability in general, and this is
- 20:07Speaker 1: not a Mac thing. This is a Patriots thing. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 1: their ability in general to compete on a consistent basis
- 20:13Speaker 1: against teams that are like them or better. Yeah. I
- 20:15Speaker 1: think that's the interesting point of it is in those games,
- 20:18Speaker 1: how much is it putting it on Mac playing bad?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Or was it you know, against Jacksonville they all played great,
- 20:23Speaker 1: The defense played good, the running game played well. They
- 20:26Speaker 1: all together and so he looked good. I think it's
- 20:28Speaker 1: it's you know, next year going forward. It's the kind
- 20:30Speaker 1: of thing of you know, does Mac have the ability
- 20:33Speaker 1: to snap the team into gear? And I don't think
- 20:35Speaker 1: anybody on this snap them into gear? Right. You know.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It's like someone said to me, you know, do you
- 20:40Speaker 1: think if the Patriots played like they did against Miami
- 20:42Speaker 1: against Jacksonville how it would have gone? I said, they
- 20:44Speaker 1: would have won fifty to ten, Like that's what it
- 20:48Speaker 1: requires against Jacksonville. Like, to lose to Jacksonville, you have
- 20:51Speaker 1: to do what the Colts did and like just mess
- 20:54Speaker 1: it all up and turn the ball over and you know,
- 20:57Speaker 1: miss out on all kinds of opportunities. Just played poorly
- 21:01Speaker 1: all around. I don't think that. I don't think that
- 21:03Speaker 1: the Patriots just played poorly all around. Against Miami. They
- 21:06Speaker 1: did some things poorly. There's no doubt. You can't give
- 21:09Speaker 1: him a pick six to start the game like that.
- 21:11Speaker 1: But against Jacksonville, yeah, maybe you allowed Jacksonville. They did.
- 21:17Speaker 1: In a matter of fact, they allowed Jacksonville to put
- 21:19Speaker 1: a drive together right off the I think the second
- 21:20Speaker 1: drive of the game. They went right down the field
- 21:22Speaker 1: and kicked a field goal. But you know, you sort
- 21:25Speaker 1: of get your bearings and it's Jacksonville, so you slow
- 21:27Speaker 1: them down. They never really got their bearings against Miami.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I know there was a lot of talk about, well
- 21:32Speaker 1: they held him to one hundred yards passing because they
- 21:34Speaker 1: did it by design. Yeah, they did RPOs and all
- 21:38Speaker 1: that stuff, and they ran it right down like that.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean they what was what was he like fifty?
- 21:45Speaker 1: He had a good percentage again, Yeah, fifteen for twenty two.
- 21:48Speaker 1: They threw for one hundred and nine yards because that's
- 21:50Speaker 1: all they wanted to throw for, right, it's not because
- 21:53Speaker 1: the Patriots shut him down and didn't let him throw
- 21:55Speaker 1: for any more than a hundred. As a matter of fact,
- 21:57Speaker 1: you know, Miami's like one of the worst running teams
- 22:01Speaker 1: in the league. I think they were thirty first coming
- 22:03Speaker 1: in and they ran for one hundred and sixty seven
- 22:06Speaker 1: yards or something like that. It was three nine five,
- 22:11Speaker 1: four and a half a carry on forty and again,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you know, people will say, well that's effort. It wasn't effort.
- 22:17Speaker 1: It was just your they're getting caught in the wrong alignments,
- 22:21Speaker 1: guessing wrong, you know. Um, yeah, the RPOs looked like
- 22:25Speaker 1: they yeah, took them. They did, and exactly it almost
- 22:28Speaker 1: seemed like, you know, back in Sperano with that wildcat
- 22:31Speaker 1: game where they had no idea what was coming. And
- 22:35Speaker 1: I said, I wrote, I said, the Patriots defense is
- 22:37Speaker 1: on their heels, yeah, you know, and no real long
- 22:40Speaker 1: runs to skew the numbers. Yeah, they had like I
- 22:42Speaker 1: think they had like one twenty something yard run. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: they had. They had a twenty seven from Duke Johnson.
- 22:47Speaker 1: That's kind of what the last run like, that's what
- 22:50Speaker 1: they were consistent success um. But I agree with how
- 22:53Speaker 1: you put it front. I think that's you know, they
- 22:55Speaker 1: just and I wouldn't even say like it was an
- 22:57Speaker 1: indictment on the run defense. It was just an indictment
- 22:59Speaker 1: on the defense overall that they were just didn't know
- 23:02Speaker 1: what was coming. They looked ill prepared for the RPOs
- 23:05Speaker 1: that you knew were coming. And I was borderline stunt
- 23:07Speaker 1: with the first drive because this is the third time
- 23:10Speaker 1: they've now seen this iteration of the Dolphins offense. Yeah,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and it looked exactly like it did in the other
- 23:16Speaker 1: two games, Like two was going to get the ball
- 23:18Speaker 1: on a script. He's going to get the ball out
- 23:20Speaker 1: really quick. He's gonna get the ball in the hands
- 23:22Speaker 1: of you know, Wattle and Parker, and he's gonna mix
- 23:26Speaker 1: in a couple of runs. He's gonna throw it to
- 23:28Speaker 1: Kisiki or someone like that, and that's it. There's like
- 23:31Speaker 1: there was no secrets, and for the third straight time,
- 23:34Speaker 1: it worked and they were able to get the lead
- 23:37Speaker 1: doing exactly what they wanted to do, and they were
- 23:39Speaker 1: able to close it out. Oh yeah, but they wanted
- 23:41Speaker 1: to do too, which was the night the book, the
- 23:44Speaker 1: book end of both that first game of the season,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and then there was a play that was eerily close too,
- 23:50Speaker 1: Like there was a it may have been the three
- 23:53Speaker 1: and out that they caused, or it was one of
- 23:56Speaker 1: the punts that they caused. Started off with a false
- 23:59Speaker 1: start penalt. He's now it's like very similar to that
- 24:01Speaker 1: last drive in the first meeting, right, So it's first
- 24:05Speaker 1: and fifteen. They backed up at like their own ten.
- 24:07Speaker 1: He throws a slant and it was the throw was
- 24:09Speaker 1: slightly low, It's like knee high, and I think it
- 24:12Speaker 1: was waddle. It may not have been waddle, but had
- 24:15Speaker 1: two hands on it and no near him. Yeah, Like
- 24:18Speaker 1: he was right it was gonna go right up to
- 24:21Speaker 1: seem I'm not telling you it was a touchdown, I remember,
- 24:23Speaker 1: but it was going to be game. I said that
- 24:25Speaker 1: if he got that one, he was off to the
- 24:27Speaker 1: races and yah, and there's just nobody there and you're like,
- 24:30Speaker 1: what is going And the throw was a little low
- 24:32Speaker 1: and the guy dropped it right. Um, I remember that,
- 24:35Speaker 1: And all he was thinking of was that slant on
- 24:36Speaker 1: first and fifteen. Here in week one, it was like
- 24:39Speaker 1: the same play, yeah, yea yeah, um so we've we've
- 24:43Speaker 1: got that to talk about. I'm sure everyone wants to
- 24:45Speaker 1: weigh in some other news. Uh, the Broncos have requested
- 24:49Speaker 1: an interview with Gerard Mayo. Correct. Um, So there's the
- 24:54Speaker 1: I mean, we obviously have a lot of important stuff
- 24:56Speaker 1: to worry about Saturday night with a playoff game, but
- 24:58Speaker 1: it's already a fascinating Black Monday. Yeah, with the coaching
- 25:03Speaker 1: stuff and Brian Flores because that one, everyone's just saying,
- 25:07Speaker 1: you know, Miami doesn't know what they're doing, blah blah blah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: and that could be true, but let's wait to see
- 25:12Speaker 1: what happens there, because I think this could be if
- 25:14Speaker 1: they end up getting to Shaun Watson. I think that's
- 25:17Speaker 1: why they get rid of Flores because he didn't want them,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and I think Chris Greer does, and I think it
- 25:22Speaker 1: was I think that makes a lot of sense. But
- 25:24Speaker 1: I just I wonder if Deshaun Watson wants them without
- 25:27Speaker 1: Brian Flores's Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Can I just
- 25:29Speaker 1: say one thing, Let's let's see what happens in Miami
- 25:31Speaker 1: and then we'll figure out because we don't know. Why
- 25:33Speaker 1: would they do that? Yeah, I would not have fired
- 25:37Speaker 1: Byan Flores. I think he is a good coach. I
- 25:39Speaker 1: think he looks like he knows what he's doing. It's
- 25:41Speaker 1: hard to tell, you know, game in, game out, but
- 25:43Speaker 1: I just want to say this from afar. Okay, they
- 25:49Speaker 1: very similar to the Patriots, invested a ton of money
- 25:52Speaker 1: in free agency two years ago after getting the culture
- 25:57Speaker 1: established with a bad year in year one on the Flores,
- 26:00Speaker 1: they invested a lot of money. They won ten games.
- 26:03Speaker 1: They expected to be a playoff team this year. Okay,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and I understand, you know, one and seven, seven and one,
- 26:11Speaker 1: you know and all that stuff. They lost to Jacksonville
- 26:15Speaker 1: and they lost to Atlanta. Yeah, you win one of
- 26:18Speaker 1: those two games and you're in the playoffs. So I
- 26:22Speaker 1: think it's unfair that Brian Flores got got fired. But
- 26:25Speaker 1: I don't think it's this travesty that it was made
- 26:27Speaker 1: out to be yesterday on Twitter. Right, they were supposed
- 26:30Speaker 1: to be better than this. Yeah, they were supposed to
- 26:33Speaker 1: be better. Now. I think that the blame. I think
- 26:36Speaker 1: they missed the guy that they should have fired. I
- 26:38Speaker 1: think Chris Greer should have gone. Yeah, I think they've
- 26:40Speaker 1: had enough missus in the draft. Well that's the thing
- 26:43Speaker 1: hurt Brian Flores, the coach, it doesn't have control. The
- 26:46Speaker 1: one consistent thing in all of this the years that
- 26:49Speaker 1: they haven't been good, has been the GM. He's well,
- 26:53Speaker 1: he's been around for a long time. Not as the GM,
- 26:55Speaker 1: but he's been around that organization since two thousand. Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and you know, we obviously have tie to Chris, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: you know the Greer family a little bit Mike, so
- 27:04Speaker 1: we have some ties there and I think he's a
- 27:07Speaker 1: really good guy. But I mean, just the misses in
- 27:11Speaker 1: the draft. You know, I don't have all the names
- 27:13Speaker 1: in front of me because I don't have it committed
- 27:15Speaker 1: to memory like I would the Patriots draft. But they've
- 27:17Speaker 1: had some disappointments and that team was supposed to be good.
- 27:22Speaker 1: The quarterback is not terrible. He's not the answer. I
- 27:25Speaker 1: don't think he's the answer. He's not terrible, and he
- 27:28Speaker 1: doesn't cost them games. I think there's a lot of
- 27:31Speaker 1: similarities between the two teams, to be honest with you.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And if I'm if I'm Miami and I'm looking at it,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I'm like, we lost to Jacksonville, we lost to Atlanta.
- 27:41Speaker 1: That's why we're not in the playoffs. Like I'm not
- 27:43Speaker 1: looking you didn't have to win the super Bowl this year,
- 27:45Speaker 1: but you couldn't get in the playoffs. Well that Pittsburgh.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Do you think Miami's better than Pittsburgh. I do, I do.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I think they're better than Pittsburgh. I not a way
- 27:55Speaker 1: to get in the playoffs. I never thought of Pittsburgh
- 27:57Speaker 1: as a playoff team all year. They never ever looked
- 28:00Speaker 1: like a play and I understand they got there in
- 28:02Speaker 1: a technicality. I don't care. Yeah, Miami should have gotten
- 28:05Speaker 1: on a technicality too, you know. The technicality should have
- 28:08Speaker 1: been you beat all the teams that you should beat. Yeah,
- 28:10Speaker 1: and they didn't. They lost the two of them. The
- 28:12Speaker 1: Chargers should have been a playoff team too, and they
- 28:14Speaker 1: I agree. Yeah, Well, we'll never get it. But I'd
- 28:17Speaker 1: love to hear what Kyle van Noy's perspective on it was.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Because he was one of the big fans agents they got.
- 28:21Speaker 1: That's another part. Then they turned and got rid of him.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Something was going on there. I don't know, and I'm
- 28:26Speaker 1: not even talking Vannois specifically, but there's some of that
- 28:29Speaker 1: that's gone on in Miami in the last three years. Yeah,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I think is it the GM's fault. I don't know,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I think I kind of think it is. Yeah, but
- 28:35Speaker 1: I just think that you know, whenever something's universal on Twitter,
- 28:39Speaker 1: they generally have it wrong, right, Yeah, when there's no
- 28:42Speaker 1: dissenting opinion, generally that think there's definitely been something else
- 28:46Speaker 1: is going on turmoil. Um, you know in the front
- 28:49Speaker 1: office there between coaching and so, let's see what moves
- 28:54Speaker 1: they make and then we might get a clearer understanding
- 28:56Speaker 1: about why they got rid of Flora's. Yeah, I think
- 28:58Speaker 1: what my perspective a little skewed, just because I think
- 29:00Speaker 1: Patriots fans were overwhelmingly like, thank god, he's beating us.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think everybody has respect for the job
- 29:06Speaker 1: that he's done, at least as far as it goes
- 29:07Speaker 1: competing with the Patriots and sweeping him this year. I
- 29:10Speaker 1: mean that that's probably a little bit. He went four
- 29:13Speaker 1: and two, it's three years against the Patriots. No one
- 29:15Speaker 1: does that. Yeah, crazy? So all right, and then um, yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: then all the other coaching firings Detroit, Chicago to Chicago.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Was that a surprise? Zimmer? You know, here's another one. Okay,
- 29:32Speaker 1: along those lines, it was outrage that the guy who
- 29:35Speaker 1: was I think under five hundred and there's three years
- 29:38Speaker 1: got fired, but the guy who's like fifteen games over
- 29:40Speaker 1: five hundred got fired and no one batter than I. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: that see that was I'll tell you who thinks a
- 29:45Speaker 1: lot of Mike Zimmer as a coach is Bill Belichill.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Bill does. But Zimmer seemed to change a little bit
- 29:51Speaker 1: in the last couple of years his own personality, Like, yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I think I think it was time yeah for that
- 29:56Speaker 1: one again from Afar. Yeah, I think that was just
- 29:59Speaker 1: probably that need to change was eight years, I think
- 30:03Speaker 1: eight or nine. I think he had eight years and
- 30:05Speaker 1: went to the playoffs three times, and he is like
- 30:07Speaker 1: somewhere between ten and fifteen games over five hundred for
- 30:10Speaker 1: his career. Yep, you know. And again whenever everybody that's
- 30:16Speaker 1: a rageous right something, And so it's bit and bears
- 30:21Speaker 1: GM and coach right, Uh, Giants, GM left, Kettleman retired, Uh,
- 30:29Speaker 1: Spielman's gone Zimmer Spilman. So that the NFC North has
- 30:34Speaker 1: the Giants think is interesting to me too, because I
- 30:37Speaker 1: wonder if the GM comes in and says, yeah, we
- 30:39Speaker 1: gotta get rid of that. Yeah. You wonder if if
- 30:41Speaker 1: Mara is gonna let the GM do that, yeah, possibly, yeah, yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 1: And I'll tell you, if I were a Giants fan,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'd be really unsettled with the rationale that's coming out
- 30:51Speaker 1: of there. Like we're on this coaching carousel, like it
- 30:55Speaker 1: was Macadoo for two years, it was Shermour for two years.
- 30:57Speaker 1: We don't want to gas Judge in two years. That's
- 31:00Speaker 1: exactly the wrong reason. If you don't think you got
- 31:02Speaker 1: the guy right, like that's I mean, fail fast, Yes,
- 31:06Speaker 1: fail fast. I mean if you're unsure at all, I
- 31:09Speaker 1: think you're better off making the move. Did you say
- 31:12Speaker 1: Detroit too? We did mention Detroit? What do we what?
- 31:14Speaker 1: What happened to Detroit? But nothing happened there? Right? I
- 31:18Speaker 1: met Minnesota? Oh okay, okay, Minnesota and Chicago. Yeah, I
- 31:22Speaker 1: was gonna say I didn't the fighting Campbell's is still there, Okay,
- 31:28Speaker 1: I will have to say. And I know I wrote
- 31:31Speaker 1: it like three different times in the notes and the
- 31:32Speaker 1: weekly notes, but I just I do applaud how how
- 31:37Speaker 1: hard they played all year? Yeah, I know that should
- 31:39Speaker 1: be nothing that's applauded. Yeah, it's about you feel good?
- 31:42Speaker 1: Story three? What are they? Three? Win and win tie
- 31:45Speaker 1: like and the and the last one they accost themselves
- 31:47Speaker 1: a chance with the number one pick with the last
- 31:49Speaker 1: win Sunday, Right, they could have the number one pick
- 31:52Speaker 1: with Jacksonville winning, Right, We're gonna buy the kneecap off.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I don't think it really matters. I don't think this
- 31:57Speaker 1: draft is one of those that you have to have
- 31:59Speaker 1: the number one pick. It looks like it's one of
- 32:01Speaker 1: those drafts that it's not really not really good at
- 32:04Speaker 1: the top. It might be deep, but not star him.
- 32:07Speaker 1: And then then Georgia beats Alabama, and my takeaway there is, Okay,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you didn't have your tight end to start, and you
- 32:15Speaker 1: lost your number one receiver, but your two receivers, but
- 32:18Speaker 1: be Metchi and Williams. That was different, That's what I mean.
- 32:21Speaker 1: But everybody on that team is a high, highly regarded
- 32:24Speaker 1: recruit or were they not ready to play? Yeah, Like
- 32:27Speaker 1: you saw how many passes they dropped. I know I
- 32:29Speaker 1: felt bad, but so I mean, I was rooting for Georgia,
- 32:32Speaker 1: strongly rooting. I just figured, but I just figured another
- 32:35Speaker 1: kid from Alabama would emerge and they were good. You
- 32:38Speaker 1: can they didn't, but you could see how good they were.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Like the talent that eighty four kids, yeah, would get open.
- 32:43Speaker 1: But he wouldn't catch it, but he caught every other one,
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, and then the eleven guy did the same thing.
- 32:48Speaker 1: The guy was really disappointing, I think for them. Billy
- 32:50Speaker 1: O'Brien looks like he wanted to kill the Billings lead
- 32:53Speaker 1: kids down number nine and Teapot was going on, Oh yeah,
- 32:59Speaker 1: and I guess that guy's been in and out of
- 33:00Speaker 1: Saban's doghouse a lot um. I was watching some of
- 33:03Speaker 1: the pregame stuff on that. It was a really bad game,
- 33:07Speaker 1: quite frankly, until like the last twelve minutes. Then all
- 33:10Speaker 1: of a sudden, Alabama scored to take the lead and
- 33:12Speaker 1: Georgia responded, and then Georgia took over right, but they
- 33:16Speaker 1: really needed team could do anything for the better part
- 33:19Speaker 1: of three quarters. Yep. I was watching the Jimbo Fisher
- 33:22Speaker 1: on ESPN two. They were doing like a film breakdown,
- 33:24Speaker 1: which I don't know what I was expecting, but I
- 33:26Speaker 1: did they need to tell those guys they were on
- 33:28Speaker 1: TV because it was just a lot of murmuring side conversations.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You know, I got there a cover two what was
- 33:34Speaker 1: seven over there? And then backside right? Yeah, what are
- 33:38Speaker 1: they saying? What's going on? I was telling dude, this
- 33:40Speaker 1: is would be right in my element. You know, we
- 33:42Speaker 1: here in the Southeastern Conference feel very strong about our program,
- 33:46Speaker 1: and you know, when and we recruited that young man
- 33:48Speaker 1: and he's a tremendous individual, and you know, we got
- 33:52Speaker 1: a chance to meet his family and and you know,
- 33:54Speaker 1: he's got a nice mom and paw, you know, and uh,
- 33:57Speaker 1: he's gonna do a lot of good things. You know,
- 33:59Speaker 1: I'm really happy for him. Did you guys see Saban
- 34:02Speaker 1: post game with his two guys? Yeah? I saw that.
- 34:04Speaker 1: That was kind of cool. Yeah, yeah, he had a
- 34:07Speaker 1: quarterback and uh the guy that receiver they got hurt?
- 34:11Speaker 1: Oh was it the receiver? Post game? Okay, I think
- 34:13Speaker 1: that's who Wasn't it was Nick Saban sitting between his
- 34:16Speaker 1: quarterback and uh Williams? Was that who it was? Well,
- 34:18Speaker 1: Williams is one of the receiver. Yeah, that's the guy
- 34:21Speaker 1: to go. Yeah, they were up there. They're any update
- 34:22Speaker 1: on that injury, by the way, not that I saw,
- 34:25Speaker 1: but uh, but they they finished the press conference and
- 34:28Speaker 1: the two guys went to get up and Nick like
- 34:30Speaker 1: motioned for them to sit down, and then he just
- 34:33Speaker 1: kind of went into a thing of just thanking them,
- 34:35Speaker 1: and you know, saying how much these two guys meant
- 34:37Speaker 1: to the program, and you know they won't be defined
- 34:39Speaker 1: by this loss. And it was just, you know, kind
- 34:40Speaker 1: of one of those moments where Nick Saban kind of
- 34:43Speaker 1: grabbed the mic and and you know, just acknowledged two
- 34:45Speaker 1: of his players. Yeah, it was it was It was cool.
- 34:47Speaker 1: It was cool. You could see, uh, you know, they
- 34:49Speaker 1: were obviously very very upset after the loss, but that
- 34:51Speaker 1: was a nice moment. Yeah. I like Young. I don't
- 34:53Speaker 1: think he's an NFL talent though. Yeah, he's just Yeah,
- 34:57Speaker 1: he's amazingly accurate. He reminds me of Bree the way
- 35:01Speaker 1: he just throws it in the ball, ends up right
- 35:03Speaker 1: in the right spot. He's really good. You know, he's
- 35:06Speaker 1: he's amazingly accurate. All Right. Eight five five past five
- 35:09Speaker 1: hundred is the Ace ticket hut line. Eight five five
- 35:12Speaker 1: past five hundred, Web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 35:15Speaker 1: the email address. Let's see what everybody else wants to
- 35:18Speaker 1: talk about. We'll start with Chris with a T I
- 35:20Speaker 1: A oh no, it's the other Christian and then La,
- 35:23Speaker 1: what's up Christian? Hey you guys, how are you doing today? Good?
- 35:27Speaker 1: You know, after the disappointing uh uh. You know, around
- 35:31Speaker 1: the football this week, I'm I'm doing okay. So I'm
- 35:35Speaker 1: not gonna lay out the good and bad and everything
- 35:38Speaker 1: that I thought went wrong. I'm gonna say this, we
- 35:41Speaker 1: have an opportunity. It beats the Bills this week. I
- 35:45Speaker 1: know it comes sometimes comes down to play a mistake
- 35:47Speaker 1: free football. My question today for you guys, what more
- 35:52Speaker 1: than mistake free football do we need to beat them
- 35:55Speaker 1: and to stop Josh Allen? Well, I think I think
- 35:58Speaker 1: the old line. It's to me, it always starts with
- 36:00Speaker 1: the old line. They've got to win so that the
- 36:03Speaker 1: running game can get established and and then you go
- 36:06Speaker 1: from there. You know, last week you were missing High Tower,
- 36:10Speaker 1: you're missing Bryant, you're missing Dugger. You know, maybe maybe
- 36:15Speaker 1: that did mean something. You know, hopefully you get them back,
- 36:19Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, It's just it's it's such a simple game.
- 36:22Speaker 1: And I don't know how how do you stop Josh Allen.
- 36:24Speaker 1: It's just it's they didn't really stop him at all
- 36:26Speaker 1: last time they played him. They didn't really stop him
- 36:29Speaker 1: at all last year when they played him in that
- 36:31Speaker 1: second game here. But I think you're right. I mean,
- 36:33Speaker 1: that's the simple that's just like play clean football and
- 36:36Speaker 1: try to figure out a way to at least get
- 36:39Speaker 1: stops on him, just a couple stops. I mean that
- 36:41Speaker 1: might be what's realistic. I think that's the bigger key.
- 36:43Speaker 1: And I know Mike Snike said it about the defense
- 36:45Speaker 1: earlier in the in the show, like, I think you
- 36:48Speaker 1: can run the ball. I think you ran the ball
- 36:49Speaker 1: really well in both games. I mean people only remember
- 36:52Speaker 1: the first one because they didn't throw it at all,
- 36:55Speaker 1: but they ran it, I think better in the second game.
- 36:58Speaker 1: They averaged, you know, over five yards to carry in
- 37:00Speaker 1: the second game. But you need to slow down, Josh Allen.
- 37:04Speaker 1: You can't get in a shootout if you want to
- 37:06Speaker 1: try to run the ball down and score over thirty points.
- 37:10Speaker 1: That's gonna be hard to do. Last night, as as
- 37:14Speaker 1: I do, we play the Bills and mad Men. Campbell
- 37:16Speaker 1: my nine year old, and so we played man. He
- 37:19Speaker 1: just I accidentally played man coverage. Everybody's running down the
- 37:22Speaker 1: field all side. Josh Allen just takes off, you know,
- 37:23Speaker 1: for like thirty yards. It's exactly what he does in
- 37:25Speaker 1: real life. And like Campbell's getting so mad, and I'm
- 37:27Speaker 1: just like, I know, I know that's what he does.
- 37:31Speaker 1: He's good. He's a good player. I hope he's off.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Patty's an agawam, what's up Patty? Good afternoon, gentlemen. Heybat So,
- 37:42Speaker 1: I have a little bit of a different question, and
- 37:44Speaker 1: it's uh got to do with big concern of mine.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I think it should be a big concern of any
- 37:50Speaker 1: any one of US Patriots fans. And I'm not I'm
- 37:53Speaker 1: not like I'm prefacing this by saying I don't think
- 37:56Speaker 1: the season's over. I'm looking forward to watch Saturday's game. Um,
- 38:00Speaker 1: But to me, I think it almost seems like a
- 38:06Speaker 1: foregone conclusion that they they sort of have to franchise J. C.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Jackson at the before the start of next year because
- 38:14Speaker 1: they don't really have any bodies in the secondary aside
- 38:16Speaker 1: from I mean, if they don't, what are they left with.
- 38:19Speaker 1: They're left with Jalen Mills, Juwan Williams, Jonathan Jones, and
- 38:23Speaker 1: Miles Bryant on the roster right and well in Phillips.
- 38:26Speaker 1: But I'm more specifically talking about cornerbacks, and if they
- 38:30Speaker 1: don't franchise them, are they just gonna expect of rookie
- 38:35Speaker 1: to come in and and and the I mean next
- 38:38Speaker 1: one next year could be the defensive teardown. Yeah, you know,
- 38:42Speaker 1: who knows. I don't you know, I don't know what
- 38:44Speaker 1: they're gonna do. You know, it's gonna be interesting. I
- 38:46Speaker 1: would pay the man, I would. I think Patty's right
- 38:49Speaker 1: in that they probably need to franchise them just to
- 38:54Speaker 1: have some sort of consistent playmaker there from time. Yeah. Um,
- 38:59Speaker 1: and maybe you work out a long term deal with
- 39:00Speaker 1: him at some point, but I think he wants to
- 39:04Speaker 1: get as much into free agency as anybody. Um, so
- 39:07Speaker 1: it might be difficult if you do franchise him, whether
- 39:09Speaker 1: or not he agrees to sign it. Maybe he does
- 39:11Speaker 1: just because it's a huge payday guaranteed. But I think
- 39:15Speaker 1: it's gonna be, uh the talked about thing this offseason. Absolutely,
- 39:19Speaker 1: I mean that's huge. The first thing. I just that's
- 39:22Speaker 1: got so many guys up and and how are you
- 39:25Speaker 1: gonna a lot what you have and and distribute it?
- 39:28Speaker 1: And you know, what do you think is the weakness
- 39:30Speaker 1: of the Patriots defense right now? Like I think that's
- 39:32Speaker 1: like where you got to jump off and say, you know,
- 39:34Speaker 1: how do you feel about this defensive front that you
- 39:37Speaker 1: paid a bunch of money last offseason? Four? I know?
- 39:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know, like you know, are you ready
- 39:43Speaker 1: to roll with it with that group again? How do
- 39:45Speaker 1: we feel? Uh, you know, what happens to High Tower,
- 39:48Speaker 1: what happens to mcquarity. I mean, it's just it's well
- 39:50Speaker 1: and then it's a lot of questions the Jackson thing.
- 39:53Speaker 1: And I agree that on the surface, when you look
- 39:55Speaker 1: at it, like you have to have to you have
- 39:56Speaker 1: to retain them, but that doesn't make you any better. Like,
- 40:00Speaker 1: so you retain a guy that's your number one corner, right,
- 40:03Speaker 1: that's good, but you haven't done anything to make yourself
- 40:06Speaker 1: any better. And you've probably invested a lot of money
- 40:09Speaker 1: in it. So I understand there's there's two sides to that. Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 1: and I think you might look at it, Bill might
- 40:14Speaker 1: look at it a little bit differently than we do. Yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 1: I mean, maybe you know, if you have plans to
- 40:17Speaker 1: use that money in a different way. Yeah, okay, but
- 40:22Speaker 1: you know, I you know, I don't know, You're gonna
- 40:23Speaker 1: have to pay somebody somewhere. Yeah, And I think it'll
- 40:25Speaker 1: it'll signal philosophically. How do they feel. Do they still
- 40:28Speaker 1: feel how they felt when they went out and got
- 40:31Speaker 1: to leave and Breevous and Gilmore to a huge car?
- 40:33Speaker 1: Do you feel like that's a you know, a number
- 40:36Speaker 1: one need or do you think that, hey, we can
- 40:38Speaker 1: maybe skimp on the back end, find a mid range
- 40:40Speaker 1: free agent and maybe a high ranking rookie. Let's put
- 40:43Speaker 1: this money toward the front seven and getting you know,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, and I don't know all
- 40:47Speaker 1: the available free agents, but you know what if there
- 40:50Speaker 1: were a Guilmore right and would you feel better about
- 40:54Speaker 1: giving the money to a Gilmore coming into the team
- 40:58Speaker 1: and then Gilmore now or Gilmore back when that don't
- 41:00Speaker 1: mean I mean they went out and made him the
- 41:04Speaker 1: highest shutdown or a guy in his prime like more
- 41:09Speaker 1: of a guy that And I again, I don't know
- 41:11Speaker 1: who the identity Gilmore like when they signed Gilmore because
- 41:15Speaker 1: I think that one of the things that I would
- 41:17Speaker 1: worry about with jac Jackson is the persona, the stuff
- 41:21Speaker 1: that we hear in press conferences. His attitude at times,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I think can sort of wane, and I wonder if
- 41:28Speaker 1: there's a fear of giving him that long term extension
- 41:32Speaker 1: that he's probably playing his butt off for right now. Yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 1: what happens if it changes? Yeah, And I'm not trying
- 41:38Speaker 1: to set up an excuse for them not paying the
- 41:40Speaker 1: money like they have plenty of money. Fred, I'm not
- 41:43Speaker 1: telling you, so don't throw this back. And my well,
- 41:45Speaker 1: Paul wanted to get rid of him because he didn't
- 41:47Speaker 1: think they know. I'm just wondering if that's part of
- 41:49Speaker 1: the equation and if they think that that's worth it
- 41:53Speaker 1: as opposed to just signing somebody else and bringing him
- 41:56Speaker 1: in for you know, a similar kind of big money
- 41:59Speaker 1: contract act and thinking, well, like Gilmore, he can come
- 42:03Speaker 1: in and be the number one corner and we don't
- 42:05Speaker 1: have to and he's gonna be motivated because he's coming
- 42:07Speaker 1: new to the team. I don't know, because well, if
- 42:09Speaker 1: they get rid of a MOBBI, they win. This is
- 42:11Speaker 1: well they didn't want to pay him because well we
- 42:13Speaker 1: know that. But and it certainly seems like when Brady
- 42:15Speaker 1: you know, was here and you felt like you're a
- 42:17Speaker 1: couple of players away each off season from going like
- 42:19Speaker 1: it makes sense to franchise Asante for a year or yeah,
- 42:22Speaker 1: we're gonna trade for to leave for this twenty twelve
- 42:24Speaker 1: playoff run or you know, franchise or a not franchise,
- 42:28Speaker 1: but you know, sign Reeve is just a one year deal,
- 42:29Speaker 1: Like I think they understand that but who are you now?
- 42:32Speaker 1: Are you you know you're gonna franchise jac Jackson for
- 42:35Speaker 1: one year? Does that mean you think like he's going
- 42:37Speaker 1: to get you to the super Bowl this year? Or
- 42:38Speaker 1: you just kind of tread and water. Would that be
- 42:41Speaker 1: smarter to maybe let somebody younger, play, less proven develop.
- 42:46Speaker 1: So you're saying that long term, what they do with J. C.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Jackson will tell us a lot about how close they
- 42:52Speaker 1: feel they are. I mean maybe a little bit, maybe
- 42:54Speaker 1: a little bit. I mean, I think it'll tell you that.
- 42:55Speaker 1: It'll also tell you, like I said earlier, how they
- 42:58Speaker 1: how they feel about defense these days. And I mean
- 43:00Speaker 1: I always came into it before talib arrived, thinking that
- 43:04Speaker 1: they want the front seventh, They want the mcguinnis, the Vrabels,
- 43:07Speaker 1: the you know, all those guys up front, and then
- 43:09Speaker 1: if you have to stick Randall gay and we'll figure
- 43:12Speaker 1: out a way to do it. Now, obviously you want
- 43:14Speaker 1: stars everywhere, but I just always thought that they valued
- 43:17Speaker 1: the front and the shut down corners and the defense
- 43:20Speaker 1: fell apart, and I think they had a change of heart,
- 43:22Speaker 1: you know, And that's and I think the safe because
- 43:24Speaker 1: I think you're right, like two thousand and five, ish.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I think that they probably felt it was much more important,
- 43:29Speaker 1: and probably was at the time, but I think the
- 43:31Speaker 1: game is evolved. And then once they lost thy Law
- 43:34Speaker 1: and then later Asante and they chased that corner from
- 43:37Speaker 1: eight to twelve, right, was a twelve for him, and
- 43:43Speaker 1: then they signed them. That was a black hole on
- 43:46Speaker 1: defense for I mean that eleven defense was wretched. The
- 43:49Speaker 1: fact that Brady dragged that team to the Super Bowl
- 43:51Speaker 1: as a miracle, Um, you know, with how bad they
- 43:54Speaker 1: were in the secondary. Yeah, just clutch plays by Sterling Moore.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Of course, let's go to uh sand deep in Virginia.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Whatever cost me a week in my life. My friends,
- 44:06Speaker 1: guys love your show. Really long time listener, first time caller. UM.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Unlike other or many Patriots since I actually love watching
- 44:15Speaker 1: the Patriots and hate watching other teams. So while the
- 44:18Speaker 1: Patriots lost and I was sad, I was so happy
- 44:20Speaker 1: the Colts loss. You just described Patriots nation. They believe me.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I can, I can, I can show you the mentions.
- 44:28Speaker 1: There was more excitement over the Colt's loss than disappointment
- 44:31Speaker 1: over the Patriots loss. I can guarantee you that UM
- 44:35Speaker 1: and Mike um My condolence is Mike, I know you're sad.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I just could not bear listening to your you know,
- 44:45Speaker 1: sadness on the post post game show. Um, they're going
- 44:48Speaker 1: to be better, don't worry, all right. So I'm I'm
- 44:51Speaker 1: more angry than sad. So I think I've settled into
- 44:53Speaker 1: angry acceptance. I just like it. They're gonna be okay, Okay,
- 44:57Speaker 1: it's okay, okay. And finally, I think I'll be a
- 45:00Speaker 1: day will draft any fast linebackers at least now, now
- 45:05Speaker 1: that we've seen all this for three years? So who
- 45:10Speaker 1: are the slow linebackers that you didn't want to see?
- 45:15Speaker 1: I mean it's it's been like a litany of linebackers
- 45:19Speaker 1: who've been slow, like High Towers. Okay, so High Tower
- 45:23Speaker 1: didn't play on Sunday? How did it look? No, I
- 45:25Speaker 1: mean I'm not just talking about Sunday. I'm just talking
- 45:28Speaker 1: about you know, twenty nineteen on you know we had
- 45:31Speaker 1: no but you had the fast linebackers playing on Sunday.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Huja played on Sunday. Who is fast? That's what he's
- 45:37Speaker 1: known for. What he's well, he's more of an undersized
- 45:40Speaker 1: defensive end and more more than a linebacker. Right. No, No,
- 45:44Speaker 1: he's an outside linebacker. Yeah, he's he's not a high
- 45:47Speaker 1: tower guy. He's more of a Van Noy. He'll line
- 45:50Speaker 1: up at the end, you know, he's but he's an
- 45:55Speaker 1: he's not a defensive end now. I mean, I just
- 45:59Speaker 1: my point is, I think the knee jerk of their
- 46:03Speaker 1: this slow. As a team. They have I think an
- 46:07Speaker 1: alarming lack of team speed. And this is one of
- 46:10Speaker 1: the things that I think really hurts the offense is
- 46:12Speaker 1: they don't really have a lot of avenues to create
- 46:14Speaker 1: chunk plays like to get and they got a bunch
- 46:18Speaker 1: of chunk plays on Sunday. How did they all come about?
- 46:21Speaker 1: Remarkable throws and catches by Myers in Henry, Like they're
- 46:26Speaker 1: diving outstretched catches just to get thirty five yards, whereas
- 46:30Speaker 1: you know, I see these other teams throw like slip
- 46:32Speaker 1: screens to McCole Hardman for fifty yards. Yeah. Yeah, So
- 46:39Speaker 1: they have an alarming lack of team speed. I think
- 46:41Speaker 1: I agree with San Deep about the overall team speed.
- 46:44Speaker 1: I just I was questioning, like the specific linebacker on Sunday,
- 46:47Speaker 1: you got the fast linebackers in there and they got
- 46:50Speaker 1: run all over. Yeah, it would be nice to have
- 46:52Speaker 1: that one dynamic linebacker. Who who's a difference maker out there? Yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 1: a lot of these guys used to be. And Mike
- 46:59Speaker 1: and I, yeah, and I in the draft. We're talking
- 47:02Speaker 1: a lot about these guys, and I'm gonna forget all
- 47:04Speaker 1: the names now, but the Devin Bushes, the Devin Whites,
- 47:07Speaker 1: the Patrick Queens, the Kenneth Murray's, they haven't all been
- 47:11Speaker 1: superstars in the NFL. Some of them have worked out,
- 47:14Speaker 1: some of them have gotten hurt, some of them have
- 47:15Speaker 1: been just okay. But that's the kind of guy I
- 47:19Speaker 1: wanted to see them get. Like this athletic guy. This
- 47:22Speaker 1: kid last night for Georgia was all over the place.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Is Dean Nakobe Dean? I forget which one that's the
- 47:30Speaker 1: like Roquan Smith as another past Georgia guy. It just
- 47:34Speaker 1: reminded me of going back to the previous Alabama Georgia
- 47:37Speaker 1: National championship game. Those guys can play, and you're gonna
- 47:41Speaker 1: get beat in coverage because linebackers against those guys in
- 47:45Speaker 1: space is a mismatch. So even those great ones aren't
- 47:48Speaker 1: going to always make the plays. But they're so fast
- 47:51Speaker 1: they make so many other plays possible. And I just
- 47:55Speaker 1: I think that that might be the next step. It's coming. Yeah,
- 47:58Speaker 1: I think Bill is coming around to it, but I'd
- 48:00Speaker 1: like to see it a little bit more. Uh, Damon
- 48:04Speaker 1: and Maryland. What's up? Damon? Hey guys, how's it going good? Um?
- 48:10Speaker 1: Quick question pertaining to the secondary. I know in the
- 48:13Speaker 1: first game against Buffalo, Miles Bride was the hero in
- 48:17Speaker 1: breaking up that porkdown play UM going for Beasley, But
- 48:20Speaker 1: the second game it seemed like he was the person
- 48:23Speaker 1: a secondary that Josh Allen just targeted. So any thoughts
- 48:26Speaker 1: on how the Patriots can prevent that when Buffalo decides
- 48:29Speaker 1: to go four wide. If I was Buffalo, that's what
- 48:32Speaker 1: I'd do. I'd spread them out and I'd find the matchup.
- 48:35Speaker 1: And I mean, you know, he got four receivers out there,
- 48:40Speaker 1: three quarterbacks, so don't forget. Yeah, they're gonna have Beasley
- 48:42Speaker 1: this time, and that that's a great chance that Isaiah
- 48:48Speaker 1: McKenzie doesn't touch the ball in this right right and
- 48:50Speaker 1: he had eleven for one twenty five and then I
- 48:52Speaker 1: mean going to have to do something different in how
- 48:55Speaker 1: they treat Allan. Yeah, you know that, that to me
- 48:58Speaker 1: would be the big change in terms of coverage. I
- 49:00Speaker 1: don't know what I don't know what else you do,
- 49:01Speaker 1: because Mike is right right, you can't double everybody if
- 49:04Speaker 1: they got four guys out there. And by the way,
- 49:07Speaker 1: another cornerback he doesn't play much, but another cornerback went
- 49:09Speaker 1: on COVID list, Sean Wade. So hopefully Bryant comes off. Yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 1: hopefully Bryant comes off. I mean that's a piece of
- 49:16Speaker 1: it too, if you're hoping for Miles Bryant. He played
- 49:21Speaker 1: last injuring Christian Barmore, probably his most notable player this season. Right, wow,
- 49:29Speaker 1: well you wonder why I put my feet up and
- 49:31Speaker 1: just let him go. On Sunday. Fred Deuce was making
- 49:35Speaker 1: fun of me on Sunday, Right, Yeah, it was like
- 49:38Speaker 1: he was It's like he was smoking a cigarette. That
- 49:40Speaker 1: was just He's just kind of sitting there. I've never
- 49:41Speaker 1: heard Paul say this before coming. He said it multiple
- 49:44Speaker 1: times though, So I'm like apoplectic. I'm going off and
- 49:47Speaker 1: Paul's just sitting there his feet up. It's really hard
- 49:50Speaker 1: to argue with Mike. I had my feet up on
- 49:54Speaker 1: that chair because I don't know why, Like sometimes, like
- 49:56Speaker 1: the foot twenty five games, they just hit different. I
- 49:59Speaker 1: don't know why. It feels like it felt like a
- 50:01Speaker 1: Nike Absolutely, it felt like a prime time game. And
- 50:05Speaker 1: I'm just I was kind of out of gas the
- 50:06Speaker 1: second half of the show, and I was checking a
- 50:09Speaker 1: couple of things with my kids on Twitter, on on text,
- 50:13Speaker 1: and Mike is just like apoplectic, going on rants about
- 50:17Speaker 1: the defense and ripping everything, and I'm just like, I
- 50:21Speaker 1: can't really I look at Hardy, I go, I don't
- 50:23Speaker 1: really have anything to argue with Mike on that. Remember
- 50:25Speaker 1: the remember the X Files. At the end of every
- 50:27Speaker 1: X Files episode, the cigarette smoking man would just show up,
- 50:30Speaker 1: just like Paul, like a guest on The Tonight Show
- 50:33Speaker 1: in the sixties, you know, with a cigarette. Yeah, it's
- 50:36Speaker 1: kind of like the postigte that. Yeah, the timely exhale
- 50:44Speaker 1: is just like, I mean, it's really hard to argue
- 50:47Speaker 1: he's got one of those long, those long uh folders
- 50:51Speaker 1: with a cigarette at the end. Cigarette that at damon. Um. Yeah,
- 50:55Speaker 1: one more thing the Patriots played on my thirtieth birthday,
- 50:59Speaker 1: just that bit. I'm hoping there'll be some birthday magic
- 51:01Speaker 1: to pull this one out. All right now, it's Chris
- 51:08Speaker 1: with a T, I A N. What's up, Christian, Hey, guys.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Um obviously just really bummed out about the way though
- 51:15Speaker 1: the season ended, despite the fact that their playoff team,
- 51:18Speaker 1: And um, what this is really a question for the group,
- 51:23Speaker 1: what do you feel good about right now with this team?
- 51:26Speaker 1: Like like, can you hang your hat on anything that
- 51:30Speaker 1: this team does well that you can say, you know,
- 51:34Speaker 1: they do this, they do this well. And I think
- 51:36Speaker 1: they run the Yeah they yeah, I mean I would say,
- 51:43Speaker 1: and I don't feel as good about this they can.
- 51:48Speaker 1: I think you could also say their past defense is
- 51:50Speaker 1: pretty good. I think it's a little deceptive, but it's
- 51:53Speaker 1: it's not bad. Yeah, not bad. I'm I feel good
- 51:57Speaker 1: about Born, I feel good about Henry. I feel I
- 52:01Speaker 1: feel good in that we've got a quarterback who I
- 52:04Speaker 1: think we can work with and can get better. Um,
- 52:08Speaker 1: you know I I you know, I like Stevenson and
- 52:11Speaker 1: Harris as as you know a duo. But I think
- 52:13Speaker 1: Christian's question is more like what do they really what
- 52:16Speaker 1: can what can you bank on every week that if
- 52:18Speaker 1: they need to do it, they can do this. I mean,
- 52:21Speaker 1: and I think the running game is as close as
- 52:23Speaker 1: you can get, Like you can count on them to
- 52:25Speaker 1: run the ball. I think they run the ball whether
- 52:27Speaker 1: the other team is trying to stop you or not.
- 52:30Speaker 1: I think they're pretty good at running the ball, pass protection. Okay,
- 52:34Speaker 1: I would say it's better, but I would say it's okay,
- 52:37Speaker 1: bank on it. Yeah, there's too many, especially early in games.
- 52:40Speaker 1: It seems like there's some congestion around many. Yeah. Yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 1: and I mean Eric sort of hit it, you know.
- 52:47Speaker 1: I Sunday's game was just like a stark sort of uh,
- 52:52Speaker 1: you know, hit you in the face, Mike. I think
- 52:55Speaker 1: you said it on the on the post game show,
- 52:57Speaker 1: like week one week seventh team here we are. I
- 53:00Speaker 1: felt like they had made no progress. Defense had an
- 53:03Speaker 1: opportunity to get the team off the field. They didn't.
- 53:06Speaker 1: And you know, for me, like I look at you know,
- 53:09Speaker 1: I think Mike you had said And again this was
- 53:10Speaker 1: sort of from the in the emotion I think of
- 53:12Speaker 1: the game. You know what it's like, what are you
- 53:14Speaker 1: been doing for four months? Um? You know, a great
- 53:20Speaker 1: question by Mike right there, I'm telling you, Mike, Mike was.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Mike was on another level on Sunday. Yeah, suddenly Paul
- 53:31Speaker 1: was the second most negative guy in the show. Wow,
- 53:35Speaker 1: he's no more sneaky negative deuce. He's just negative deuce. Yeah,
- 53:39Speaker 1: it was. It was tough. So you know, for me,
- 53:41Speaker 1: I think, listen, obviously, you know you're playing Buffalo, and
- 53:44Speaker 1: you know who you got this game, the third game
- 53:47Speaker 1: against him, and you know, I, like everybody else, I
- 53:50Speaker 1: kind of preferred Cincinnati because of the inexperience of the
- 53:54Speaker 1: coaching um, and you know, I just I think Buffalo
- 53:58Speaker 1: has sort of passed the point where they're going to
- 54:00Speaker 1: screw it up. So let's see. I don't rule it out. No,
- 54:05Speaker 1: I know what you're saying, Christian. I think they feel
- 54:07Speaker 1: it just like they felt it a couple of weeks
- 54:09Speaker 1: ago when they came here, like they knew, they were
- 54:11Speaker 1: confident in who they are and what their game plan is.
- 54:14Speaker 1: They're confident that they can come here and win. And
- 54:17Speaker 1: I think now that they're at home, I think they
- 54:19Speaker 1: feel like they blew that game at home. No pun
- 54:21Speaker 1: intended with the win, but I feel like they threw
- 54:23Speaker 1: that game away and feel like they should be they
- 54:26Speaker 1: should have swept the series. I think that thea of
- 54:28Speaker 1: that game was in reality, exactly the opposite of the
- 54:31Speaker 1: way we all kind of felt it. Right. Yeah, I
- 54:34Speaker 1: think they look at it and say that's the best
- 54:36Speaker 1: they can play, right, and we just beat ourselves right,
- 54:40Speaker 1: and they're at home, and I think that crowd's going
- 54:41Speaker 1: to be a factor. It's gonna be like it's a
- 54:43Speaker 1: night game, so it's gonna be like three degrees. I
- 54:45Speaker 1: just looked at the forecast from cold and what are
- 54:48Speaker 1: you doing it? Damn is you're taking the day off today,
- 54:51Speaker 1: you slacker? Too cold for you? Oh you're working from home?
- 54:56Speaker 1: Checking those water tables from home? Are they all frozen today?
- 55:00Speaker 1: W baby? Nothing like it? Ain't there? All right? Guys?
- 55:05Speaker 1: All right, I'm speaking I um, Adam writes in and
- 55:10Speaker 1: he thinks that mush wait, I can't do it now
- 55:13Speaker 1: because master, I'll wait, I'll wait, I wait on that point. Okay,
- 55:17Speaker 1: um the phone banks, Let's go to Eldred in North Carolina.
- 55:21Speaker 1: What's up, Eldred? Hey, So, how y'all doing? Sorry? Three
- 55:26Speaker 1: people just ran off the road. Sorry? Sorry, that the best? No. No,
- 55:30Speaker 1: They looked at me like why am I'm blowing at him?
- 55:32Speaker 1: But I wait and they keep moving. I'm listening to
- 55:36Speaker 1: a podcast on the phone. But I'm I'm just curious,
- 55:44Speaker 1: you know. Like I said, it's always hard to be
- 55:47Speaker 1: the team. Three times and and uh the defense deuce,
- 55:52Speaker 1: I feel your pain. I thought that's the best thing
- 55:54Speaker 1: we can hang our hat on was this year whoop
- 55:56Speaker 1: be the deepen until the offense come around. But how
- 56:00Speaker 1: your question earlier one of the call of call in
- 56:04Speaker 1: how many games experience that Perkins ain't had none yet? Right,
- 56:09Speaker 1: Perkins has not played in the game. No, okay, So
- 56:14Speaker 1: if they had to start, let's let's say they didn't
- 56:16Speaker 1: bring hot toower Back or or van Noy or or
- 56:22Speaker 1: the other one coin, and they started with them and
- 56:24Speaker 1: they ask him a gaming spirit, do you think they
- 56:26Speaker 1: might be a little bit better or it might be
- 56:28Speaker 1: to say what you see, I kind of agree with you.
- 56:30Speaker 1: This is you know, I don't want to reopen a
- 56:32Speaker 1: wound from a fight with Fred from very early in
- 56:34Speaker 1: the year. I think that had you played some of
- 56:37Speaker 1: these guys earlier in the year, they might be better
- 56:40Speaker 1: suited today to help you. Um, now that that ship
- 56:44Speaker 1: is sailed, like, you can't ask Ronnie Perkins to play now,
- 56:46Speaker 1: right right? You know, save us? You know cha. I
- 56:49Speaker 1: think will be a part of the you know, the
- 56:52Speaker 1: game plan on Saturday. I think that he might be
- 56:55Speaker 1: involved in chasing Josh Allen around a little bit. Sure,
- 56:58Speaker 1: I think he could help. Yeah, I mean, I think
- 57:01Speaker 1: the question is next year, are those are those guys
- 57:03Speaker 1: win of Itch Perkins him? Are they just dead? You
- 57:06Speaker 1: had to say about Perkins right now, what would you think?
- 57:09Speaker 1: I think I can you can you have examples of
- 57:12Speaker 1: guys that just could not even get on in a uniform.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen guys that didn't play much and
- 57:17Speaker 1: we're quiet as rookies, even second year guys, but can't
- 57:20Speaker 1: even get in uniform. No, And I mean it's hard
- 57:23Speaker 1: to believe it's similar to where he was. Yeah, I mean,
- 57:25Speaker 1: and like, do what do you think of ASSISI right, nothing, nothing,
- 57:28Speaker 1: I know and I never even like even in uniform.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Like sometimes you look at a guy and be like, well,
- 57:32Speaker 1: what's the part, Like I just he just looks like
- 57:34Speaker 1: an undersized say, like you know with ASIASI and I
- 57:37Speaker 1: don't know what what's going on. But like we continue
- 57:42Speaker 1: to add like practice squad tight ends. Yeah, right, another
- 57:46Speaker 1: one right, Like you had the comment that they protected
- 57:50Speaker 1: cost Now they added another one the other yesterday, another
- 57:54Speaker 1: tight end to the practice squad. It wouldn't seem to
- 57:57Speaker 1: be a major need unless there's someone that's hurt. Hey,
- 58:02Speaker 1: I know, I know the active roster and it's not
- 58:04Speaker 1: even like they I mean, I think, like we said
- 58:06Speaker 1: last week through you're thinking they're gonna play a bunch
- 58:08Speaker 1: of two tight end. I mean they've been a free
- 58:09Speaker 1: wide receiver offenses year. Yeah. Yeah, well I hope I
- 58:14Speaker 1: hope they do franchise of Jackson because besides him, we
- 58:20Speaker 1: ain't got enough back there. I'm sorry, Yeah, Brian meals,
- 58:25Speaker 1: you know, and they're gonna get their tests this weekend
- 58:27Speaker 1: because definite what I would do to spread them out
- 58:30Speaker 1: and just chunk it. Yeah, definite what I do with him.
- 58:33Speaker 1: But I just hope by defense hold up. Hope that
- 58:36Speaker 1: goes on to still a lot of man but maybe
- 58:38Speaker 1: they might do better that way. But I hope they
- 58:42Speaker 1: were signed on the practice squad. Tell tell Bill get
- 58:46Speaker 1: a during receiver with some speed and some hype. Yeah, alright,
- 58:48Speaker 1: I agree they need some speed. Speed is what we need.
- 58:52Speaker 1: All right, Thanks Aldred a one more call on, will
- 58:57Speaker 1: take a break. Todds to North Carolina. Hey Todd, Hey guys,
- 59:01Speaker 1: I agree with Elderd a lot and with Paul. We
- 59:04Speaker 1: need speed. So that's one thing. And another quick thing.
- 59:08Speaker 1: I met Chris with the TI N virtually the other
- 59:11Speaker 1: day and He's like a taller, happier version of Eric.
- 59:13Speaker 1: They look a lot alike. It's pretty cool. He's my
- 59:15Speaker 1: pies on a little bit. See why, you guys are
- 59:19Speaker 1: like brothers from another mother. You guys, right, you got it. No,
- 59:23Speaker 1: My thing is if you could hit the team with
- 59:26Speaker 1: a speed wand and give one area more speed, what
- 59:29Speaker 1: would you be ride receivers, linebackers, dbs. What where would
- 59:32Speaker 1: you want it? I'll take this question off there. Thanks, Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 59:38Speaker 1: guy on the inside. I mean somebody like that. Yep,
- 59:41Speaker 1: somebody you can make big plays. Get the ball. He's
- 59:44Speaker 1: got a great touchdown celebration. All right, we'll take a break.

- 1:04:42Speaker 1: for Miami Now, the fullback lined up out of the pistols,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the gimpt to Johnson, run out play fake and a
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: gout of the end zone at pot by Wattle in
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: the back left corner. He was wide open off a
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: beautiful fake to Duke Johnson and the golfin strike on
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: the game's first possession. Techn on Miami, Jones looks like
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: the back d just stepted it and running it back
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: left side with a cut past for fifteen tad one
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: in the end zone ex. Shamian Howard. Don't hit six
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: for the dophen. No, he's not there. The ball stone outside.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: It should have been in to the inside up Jakobe Myers,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: he's the inside slot guy to the right. It sold
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: the outside quarter. Since Jos takes him right into the quarter,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: they suck up. Get it. These are two good quarters.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Good luck. Throw the ball off the flatfere. These guys
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: can ball hockey. These guys go hout to play the ball.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: It's a cone take. You can't just getting runs to
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the luck he's got a lot of room. And then
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: he hits the deck with a beach horse slide. But
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: he went down short the first und ladder. And then
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: a flag comes in late, but what a flat came
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: in late? The severe quarterback with brad and bolted. He's
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: not a quarterback, lozy on Valordi and I think the
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: flag was thrown behind an officials unnecessary rud I'm ran
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: and bolding the A picture holes through. The flag is
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: behind the play and he's still on the move boarding
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: get lower of the crown. It was older hole it
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: gettwnt of his helmet, get loaded to help play. There's
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: a barently content, there's a barly content. But by lowering
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: the crown of his helmet, the Dolphins got the call
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: from behind by an official again bomb the move backed down,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: the daring to do it fast changing the play turns
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: and gives bold and runs it up. Fiddle stop carry
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: let half the five houtside of the end zone. Touchdown.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: He speak brave and bolded three by two cents. Hey
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: by low. There's a lot of the end zone left
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: for Hollins. There's contest there with Mills. There's past lands
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: and complete. I'm gonna flag land by ends goe nearby
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: that is he's a low to go for the ball.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: He turns to look for the ball that place of
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: the yard line. The call he see we're at six
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: four out there for the Dolphins. What a chuck chunk call.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Heck of my load. Gives him the handoff. He runs right.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: He's gonna run to the end zone to the right
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: inside the file on let's nott Miami first intent the
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Dolphins twenty two. Jones dropped the staff tries to dive
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: on it. But did he get there and zone Dolphin
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: had a shot at oh Miami's god, oh my god,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: oh my god. Turne beat ninty four for any could
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: you be any more that for the Sunday when you
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: crossed the plus thirty, waiting on a snap, he moved
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: up at Moore, an early movement called on foot in
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: fun headed towards General Scheff, dressed to his life, backed
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: up inside the twenty with the ferry catch. He handled
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: it the dolphins. He moved on the right side. True, William,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: there is a club. I think you have to read
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: you're a special oh man for again about the reeking
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: bold into the right of Jones and takeing stap drop
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: that draws the leper bolt into the screen to the fifteen,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: ran into the ten grand, into the five rand, into
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: the pylon, knock it over, touch down Patriots. Jones turns
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: and gives Harris up the middle. Jones plasing his arm.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: The Efengels do as well, touch down Patriots, bashing the
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: left of tongue Byla. He takes his snap. He dropped
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: that pocket, squeezing down, take a balloon, get He'll try
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: to escape. He runs past the forty five across midfield.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: He's got a first down joe board chango by Loa
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: for the second time. Am able to escape and running,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Jones takes the step quick throw out to the riper
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: je Kobe Myers. He starts to onto the middle of Myers.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: You're gonna weave to the left of the five, tosses
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: a highoneer. It's gonna be picked off and on in
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: the end time the touchdown for the Dolphins. And that's
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: how the regular season comes to it. At the celebration
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: in the end zone for my animals. All right back
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: here on Patriots Unfiltered on a Tuesday, getting ready for
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the Bills Saturday night. So quick turnaround as they say, um,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: what what are we looking at for? One guy, I
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: feel like one of Paul's stations owe me some money.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I guess. Uh. This guy Adam writes in and he
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: says he was listening to ninety eight point five and
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: it was in a nutshell podcast that they do, I guess,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: and they're using my voice. This is me in a nutshell. Yeah.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Now if it may not be, but uh, someone saying okay, uh,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: maybe I don't know. Can you play it sometime? You
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: don't have four hours and that's okay. Now, is that me?
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: It sounds a little bit like you. Yeah, I thought
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: yours was all right? All right, yeah, that's what I do.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: But sometimes you do say okay. So if it's socially
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: in a party, condescendingment, it's okay, Paul, it's okay. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: it's okay. When he's lost an argument, Paul, he wants
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: me to stop, it's okay. If it is me, I
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: demand royalty right now. I mean, you do have a
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: great okay. If they were looking for an okay, I
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: can see why they would have been like, hey, let's
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: get that curses okay, Matt put the all right, and
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: especially especially you know, in a podcast, because if you
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: have a podcast in Boston, you're listening to ours right
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: on how to do it. So I could see where
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: they would be stealing their fair point there. Yes, I
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: mean you make a a lot of great points. Yeah. No,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: it's not me. It's not me, all right, driving it
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: into the ground. I'm going to I can't help it.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: You know what this is. He's trying to deflect attention
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: from the fact that he official. So let's get to
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: some of the emails coming into web radio at Patriots
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: dot Com. We'll start with Ben in Boston, first time,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: long time question about coaching, with the kind of surprising
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: fire of b flow. Would you want to see him back?
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Do you think it's realistic he'd return as a non
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: head coach like Josh McDaniels or Mattie Pe. Personally, he
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: seems like a competent head coach and I'd love to
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: see him back as defensive coordinator. In the air apparent conversation,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I tell you what, I wouldn't rule up that he
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: gets one of these vacant head coaching jobs. He's already's
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: list Hold on, hold please, I have some some odds
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: and stuff. But um, I think there's very little chance
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: of him coming back here for a lot of reasons.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: But don't dismiss the fact that Steve Belichick is the
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: de facto defensive coordinator. Right, you're gonna bring They already
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: brought Patricia back, and I wondered how that would work. Well,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: we found out he's not a coach. That's how it works, right,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: That's how you know. So you're gonna bring another guy
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: back and not be the coach. He's gonna be the
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: assistant head coach, but not like, how's that going to work?
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: One thing I was thinking about, not just for Flores,
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: but for any coach that gets fired, is it is
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: it better to like jump right back in with another
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: team or is it better to take a little time
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: and kind of, you know, refuel a little bit, kind
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: of learned from what happened. And then like Josh, I think,
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: what did Josh do? He came right back? I mean no,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: but joshin right, coach, he kind of he hasn't. He
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: has not gotten a job. He hasn't. But no, That's
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: why I'm saying I'm not taking a shot at Josh.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I'm saying I am when he when he lost the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Denver job, right, I think he was out for the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: rest of that year. But then he joined the Rams
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: as their offensive coordinator first season. The next year, Yeah,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: the next year, Right, So he took a little bit
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: of time, to your point. And then he said he
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: had that big article in the ESPN where he was
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: talking about how he stayed at the facility and Saint
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Saint Louis back then and was thinking about like what
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: he did wrong as a head coach and like put
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: this whole list together of things he was Yeah, so
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: I Bill builded the same thing, but he's after Cleveland.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Did he taken twelve Well, he didn't say the same thing,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: you know, and but he I don't know if he
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: wanted to, but he had to take time off of
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: being a head coach in between Cleveland and here. Now,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I think he would have jumped right back in if
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Robert Craft had hired him right after Parcels, or if
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: somebody else had offered him. This is my point about Josh. Yeah,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: but I'm just wondering if it's you know, the urges.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna get right back and show everybody I'm a
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: good head coach. But hold on, I'm indie did offer
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Josh and he took the job? No, no, no, that's
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: the that's the only job. Like It's not because he
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: decided he didn't take not take that because he wanted
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: to step away, right He got offered one job in
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: the last twelve years. But my question is, I know
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: what you're saying, whether or not you get offered, is
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: it a good idea to take at least a year
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: to just kind of reflect. I think it would defend
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: on the individual and his I mean dependend depend on
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: the individual. Um and because and this is where I
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: don't know, Um, all the parameters of what Flores is
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: going through right now. For all I know, this completely
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: took him. Hit him out of left field. He had
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: no idea, completely floored. If that's the case, I think
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: he might you you would be right to say it
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: might be best served to just sit it out, wait
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: and figure it out in two years. Right. Um, if
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: he kind of had an idea there was some rumblings
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: going on, then he's probably already had in his mind
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: this could happen, and I would jump right in. Yeah,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: and he is on the Bear's list. I got this
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: thing from sports Betting sports book with future props that
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: we get. We get a lot of these. Um do
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: you guys get these same emails? I assume I don't
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: get any of those. Okay, I'm not on those lists,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you know, so you have to go like this to
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: get on this list, Right, I'm touching the side of
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: my nose. The odds for the next Bears head coach
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: bear down Chicago Bears Doug Peterson plus five hundred, Jim
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Harbaugh uh Is plus five fifty, Brian Dable six hundred,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Eric b Enemy seven hundred, Leslie Fraser seven hundred, then
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Brian Flores at a thousand, um, so they certainly have
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: him in the mix for that Bears job. And I
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: did see today that he officially is interviewing with them, right,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I don't see him on all of these other lists
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: and night oh I'm sorry, Vikings coach. He is the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: fourth on the list, behind b Enemy Dabele, Andre Patterson.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with Andre, and then Flores. Um so
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: he is on some of these lists, which I you know.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: And Josh McDaniels, by the way, um, as far as
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I can tell them, is on the Jaguars list way
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: down at plus two thousand. But that's just a tout list.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: That's not like he's on the list to be in
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: nor because he's not on the list. And he's also
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: plus sixteen hundred for the Vikings job, which is last
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: among the you know, fifteen or so coaches they list. Yeah,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: these are betting odds. Did like that? How much does
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: it depend too on what team it is? I don't specifically,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: I don't believe anybody is requested to interview Josh McDaniels.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: That I certainly not. That's been reported, not yet, But
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: they did report Mayo. Yeah, yep, uh so Justin and
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Rhode Island um longtime listeners. Second time emailing email I
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: emailed during the draft complaining about Mac. I'm still not
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: sure if he's the guy. But my question is, why
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: does every bum player have good games against the Patriots
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: And it's been happening for years, or at least it
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: seems like it. But our best can barely do anything.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: I watch other teams with absolute bums for quarterbacks and
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: wide receivers look way more athletic and explosive compared to
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: our offense. Makes me question the play calling, which I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: have been for years, even when Brady was here. Third
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: and twelve, here comes a runner screen. Seems like they
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: lay down and expect not picked up the first down,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: And I get it. The other teams can make some
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: plays but then crap themselves in the same drive. I
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: don't know. It seems like a lot of complaining. Yeah,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: like the bums from other teams, right, Like, how did
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: like Wattle he's a bum? Well, I mean, I assume
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: he's talking about Duke Johnson, but like against Jacksonville, how
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: do a Google Walley guy do? Did you see him
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: make any huge place? Although he might have had to.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Did he catch did he catch the screen pass? Is
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: that the other guy Armstead there that that we were
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: asked about how many catches instantly. There's a lot of
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: games that the stiffs don't do anything that you don't
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: really realize and then an isa and it's notable, you know,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: and it does happen from time to time, and I
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: think when it happens, the reason is, I think the Patriots, um,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: they're so concerned from a game plan perspective of not
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: allowing the other teams stars to beat them. That's generally
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: how they go about it. Um, and they make someone
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: else do the dirty work, you know, they you know
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: the guy they always say that the term they try
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: to make the opponent play left handed, and it's served
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: them really well over the years. The flip side of
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: that is every once in a while, the other team
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: does it. So, Yeah, Buffalo was able to do with
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Isaiah McKenzie. Yeah, and that's why I like this week.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: You think if it goes even according to somewhat the
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: plan and jac Jackson's able to contain digs, it's you know,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Davis and Cole Beasley worry about worry about Yeah, It's like,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you know, you're playing Houston and you know they're gonna
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: make Davis Mills do it, and he kind of almost did. Yeah,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: you know, But but I would say in that in
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: that game, right, Brandon Cooks is probably the guy that
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: they went into that game and say, we're not going
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: to let him ruin the game for us. He didn't, right,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: but everybody else did, right, Bill and DC. Maybe I'm naive,
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: but I just don't understand the constant criticism directed towards
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Mac from certain elements of the media in fan base
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: every time the Patriots lose. Certainly not from the media.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: The kid has certainly had his ups and downs recently,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: and some of the blame definitely lies at his feet.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: But I don't think people understand just how tough it
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: is for a rookie to get his team into the playoffs.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Since twenty thirteen, among rookie quarterbacks would played ten or
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: more games and didn't come in as injury replacements, only
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Dak Prescott got his team into the playoffs in his
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: first season. The bottom line is that what Mac has
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: accomplished the many years, say since thirteen, oh, so we're
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: just going to eliminate the years that had happened. The
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: bottom line is that Mac has accomplished this season is
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: pretty rare. I don't think the Patriots will go far
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: in the playoffs, but that shouldn't diminish what Jones has
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: accomplished as a rookie. You know what's even more rare
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: than what the Patriots have done what criticism of Mac? Yes, yes,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: but the amount of teams that took rookie that started
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: rookie quarterbacks from the start of the season that would
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: fit this parameter, that were in the Patriots position as
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: opposed to like Trevor Lawrence, Like did Trevor Lawrence have
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: any shot whatsoever? Like there's a reason that Russell Wilson
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: was able to take his team to the playoffs. He
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: took over eighteen that was already good. Like there's a
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: reason Dak Prescott was able to have success. Yeah, Dallas
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: was already very talented. In terms of the criticism of Mac, though,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I think pretty people have been pretty fair with Mac.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I think people have realized he is a rookie, and
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: at least around here, I don't see a lot of
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: people being over now people do evaluate his game saying,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: you know, that wasn't a great game for Mac and
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But I always hear it couched with
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: you know, he's a rookie. Yeah, I don't think that's why.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I don't think there's been much criticism of at all. Yeah,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: I think people have been fair about his play. I
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: don't think. I mean, early on, especially national, the talk
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: about he's gonna the next Brady and he's this and
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: ceiling you know, Canton and that was ridiculous Canton. But
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I think I think around here people have pretty even handed. Yeah,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I think so. I mean, but you know, to be fair,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: I think he's played seventeen games, and you know, at
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: some point, yeah, he's still a rookie, but he's got
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: some NFL experience now, and I don't think it's too
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: crazy to, you know, expect some progression. And the way
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: that the games have gone the last few weeks, I think,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: as we said, he's very much part of the team.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I don't think he is in and of himself able
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: to change the dynamic of how a game is unfolding.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: If it's going well, he can keep it going well.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: If it's going bad, I don't think he can necessarily
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: at this point in his career, change it and start
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: making plays that wow, it's just he's got to make
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: a few throws. And I mean, I hate the comparisons
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: to bring up, but you know, watching Justin Herbert in
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: overtime the other night and completing fourth and ten after
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: fourth and ten, and you know, those are the kind
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: of throws that down the road you want to see
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Mac be able to throw up when he's up against
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: it and the team really needs him to make a play.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: He'll have an opportunity here. I'd love to see just
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: a solid game out of him, something to finish that
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: that's strong. But I do think that going into next
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: summer that you know, I have to say if there's
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: questions about whether he's the starter or not, but I
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: think he needs to improve. He needs to, you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: show some some significant strides in some area. Love his brain,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: love his anticipation when he's on. But I think there's
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: definitely areas that he needs to improve if this team
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: is going to take the next step. Absolutely, let's go
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: to the aceticket Hut Lion Shawn's in Vancouver. What's up,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Sean Hey for a couple of things, Paul, Yeah, it
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: was Daria Gumbowali who had that garbage time catch for
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: a touchdown. That screen about that which was it was.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: It was kind of weird because I think that was
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: his only reception they kept. They threw a few to Armstead,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: who is I guess in terms of that caller who
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: wrote in is more of what he'd been considered on
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: that bumb level because he was someone who's just like
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: golf the practice squad. But yeah, it was. I thought
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: it was weird the way they used him. It wasn't
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: seven catches like Mike was joking about, but that was.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: That was one thing. The other thing, I'm kind of
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: concerned about what the Patriots is there the runs, defense
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: and their special teams and um. But this season I
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: didn't expect them to make the playoffs. Here they are,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: they're going to be in Buffalo. So just hoping that
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: they're going to be able to make up for some
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: of the mistakes they did in the last game and
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: the figure that out and we'll see what happens Saturday night.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: All right, Thanks Sean. What do you think if you
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: were an opponent take it on the Patriots and you've
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: got a great running back, You're in a great offense.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: You've got a great passing attack, you've got a great
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: rushing attack. What would you attack the Patriots with? What
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: do you think they're weaker at their run defense or
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: their passing? I would I would just mix it yeah,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I mean right, that's a good question. Though. You could
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: do anything you want if you have a good offense.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: I think yeah. I think when the Patriots looked worse,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: it's when the other team is mixing it up and
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: and and working fast. Yeah you know, are you up? Yeah?
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: No huddle? Uh yeah, because you if you have a
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: good group of wide receivers like the Bills do, you couldn't.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: You could take it manage of this secondary which is
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: very weak. But at the same time, if you have
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: a strong running game like Tennessee Cleveland as we've seen,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: you can run on this team as well. So I
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: think your best bet is to just mix it up,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: like you said, and keep them on their heels and
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: the wrong. Ye. A couple of things that I would
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: do if I were Buffalo is like they threw the
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: ball forty seven times in the game that they won.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I don't think they need to do that. I think
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: that don't waste time trying to establish the run, but
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: don't ignore it either, if that makes any sense. And
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: I know, well that makes a lot of sense, Paul,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: So run it when you get yards, but don't run
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: it if you're not going to get yuarts like if
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: you you know, obviously, but I feel like to just
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: sit there and say we throw the ball better than
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: we run it. We don't run it really well. Is
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: just ignoring what the Patriot's biggest weaknesses on defense, and
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: that has been stopping the run. They need to come
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: into the game saying I know that we're not a
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: big power running team, but we can run it on
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: this team, and we need to do that a little bit,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: so it's not all on Josh Allen. And I also
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: would have I would put it in Josh Allen's mind,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: do not be afraid to use your legs to get yards. Um,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: you know, don't force it somewhere. Take you know, take
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: the five yard run rather than jamming it into a
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: double coverage situation fifteen yards down field. I think they
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: can do offensively. I think Buffalo was really good and
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I think when they when they get rolling, they're hard
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: to stop. I think they should be able to do
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: whatever they want let's go to Jeff in California. Hey, Jeff,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: gentleman of tu Jeff. Yes, So I got a question
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: for you guys, and kind of a game. You guys
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: started to touch on it about Mac, and I'm gonna
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: be full disclosure about it. I was not a Mac
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: fan coming out. I didn't really like him. I thought
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: he was kind of one of these Bama guys that
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: was a little bit limited physically and kind of maybe
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: probably maxed out, didn't have a lot of room for growth,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: you know, one of the low ceiling, high floor kind
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: of players. And I kind of still feel that way,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: But at the same time, I agree one hundred percent
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: like at the time they had to take a quarterback
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: and he was the best one available by the time
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: they picked. I would have preferred if they had found
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: a way to move up and maybe get a guy
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: like Justin Fields, who I feel like probably doesn't have
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: as high as a floor but has a much higher
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: ceiling and can make plays with his legs and moved
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: around in the pocket. And so I'm kind of torn
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: on it. But as like a season in review for
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: the regular season, since it's over now, I wanted to
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: get you guys thoughts. As Paul likes to call it,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: a window into the soul of PU if you guys
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: were the VM, and I'll take it offline after, but
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: I'd like to hear each of you guys what you
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: would each individually do if you were the GM, knowing
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: what you know now, like all the information that's come
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: to you over the course of the season, good, bad, indifferent,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: if you guys could make the selection, now, would you
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: have rathered to be able to find a way to
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: move up in the first round and let's say, get
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Jalen Waddle? Okay, so what would we have done in
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: the first round? Right? Yeah? But also the second round
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: because would you have moved up and taken Jalen Waddle
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: in the first round if possible, and then lived with
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: being able to get like Davis Mills at the back
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: end of the Okay, No, that's a that's a good one. Yeah,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: we were talking about that. We'll do that. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: So I I was just talking about this the other
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: day in Miami with someone. I really you know, we've
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: said this on the show. I really think if Wattle
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: was available at fifteen, they were going to take I
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: think that too, and I think I think with the
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: idea that we'll get our quarterback in the second round,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: whether it's Mac who lasts, or a guy like Davis Mills.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: I think they were perfectly okay with doing that. Okay,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: questioning the back, Yes, yes, so if you trade up
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: to get Jaylen Waddle, which I would not have been
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: in favor of. Right, And I'm saying that after we
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: caught one hundred and whatever many passes, what are you
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: giving up to trade up from fifteen? Are you're gonna
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: lose that second round? Yeah? Right, thank you, Mike Assault. Right,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: so now I don't have a draft pick to get
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: my quarterback. No, I think if you're asking me, would
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I'd be okay if I got Davis Mills and Jalen Waddle. Yeah.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: It's much like my my friendly neighborhood buffoons on the
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: radio last week or telling me, well, you know, like
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: how much worse off would they be if it was
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Davis Mills and Micah Parsons? Not worse off all, except
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: for that Michael Parsons wasn't available at fifteen, Right, So
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: I can just cherry pick the best player who came
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: out of the draft, best defensive player anyway, and say, yeah,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: him and another quarterback. Sure, I'll take that. Right. Wasn't
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: an option, right, and much like Jalen Waddle was not
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: an option for the page right. So at fifteen, who's
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: the guy that they didn't take that you would have
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: rather have had? No and I would have taken. I
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: like the mac pick just because I'm on board with
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: letting Bill and Josh do what they want till the
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: end and giving them a chance to lay the groundwork
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: for whatever they want next. And if they found a
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: guy that could win the job over the summer and
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: step right in and execute the offense fairly competently this
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: year as a rookie, then I think you got to
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: take that guy and let them, you know, work their
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: magic over the course of the season and going into
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: next year, and let them do what they do, because
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: I think, you know, they if it's their guy and
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: he can do what they want them to do, I
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: want to see it. I want to I want to
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: give them that. Ever, and again, don't take this like
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: you know. I was disappointed they took me. I'm perfectly
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: happy with the fact that they have Matt Jones. I
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: love the fact that they have Matt Jones, I think,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: but but there is a false narrative out there that
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: the Patriots played their cards perfectly. You know, they waited
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: and they didn't have to use up any capital, and
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: then they got the guy that they wanted without having
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: to use any draft capital and move up again. I
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: think if a couple guys were available at fifteen, mac
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: Jones would not have been the pit, Like what if
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Pitts was available or Waddle or Chase? You know. So
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: I think they they took the best guy available at fifteen. Yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: you know, but I think that there were other guys
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: that they liked who they were thinking might slip to fifteen. Yeah.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: And and I do think that it was hard because
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: I think in the backup Bills Might he had to know,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: I can't go into another season. He had to take
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: a quarterback with Cam Newton r. That's that's that's the
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: other half of the equation. Yeah, they take Davis Mills.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: Is he you think he's I mean, do you have
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: designs on him starting? And I think Barmore's part of
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: this too, because you're trading up, you're not getting Christian Barmore.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: And I think that was another slam dunction. It worked out,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: It worked out, you know, but like it wasn't like
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: this grand scheme, you know, like and that's what kind
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: of Bill warnts people about all the time, is you know,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: who are you gonna pick in the first round? Who
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: are you gonna pick in the second round? All right,
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: tell me who everybody in front of me he's gonna pick,
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: and who's willing to do trades? And maybe I'll give you.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: But you don't know that until draft day. You really
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: don't tell Eldrid we already know his answer to that question.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: He would take you wantle right. But so you do
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: your best. You prepare for everybody and for any situation.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: You know, that's all you can do. Be flexible, Yes,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: do your mock drafts. Uh, let's go to a shot
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: in Baltimore. What's up for Shot Bateman? What what's up? Um?
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I guess I had a few things first. I wanted
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: to say something about special things. Uh, you guys think
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: we're going to get a new setter teams coach. Uh.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure the coaching, but yeah, cord I wouldn't
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: dismiss it. I think that's a possibility can be. Yeah,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: the illegal formation on the on the stale goal, I
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: don't think I've ever seen I don't think I ever
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: seen a penalty like that before. The all of like
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: three block time is just yeah, that's got to change.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: But when they changed the rule, there was there were
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: quite a few lining up over the center calls, but
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: not later. That goes back. Yeah, seven years, got to
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: be eight, nine, ten years. It's old, right, right. The
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: Patriots made the change that rule because Jamie Collins, no,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: that first time around, that's you can't jump over the line.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: That's a different, yeah different. That was actually the Camp
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Chancellor rule, by the way. Yeah, and I guess I
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: wanted to talk about and you see Saturday. I'm happy
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: that they played that. He don't play at four three.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: I'm happy that we played Saturday nights. And I saw
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: the weather. I guess it looks like it's gonna be
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: cold the first Saturday afternoon. Maybe the Patriots can do
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: I mean, it's not going to be the three pass game,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: but he can pass more. But I'm thinking it's got
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: to be a heavy based running game. You gotta be
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: able to control the clock, run the ball. Sure, it
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: only works if your defense shuts them down. I mean,
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: if that's the best thing you do as a team,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: you better be able to do it. See, I think
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: it's got more to do. On the other side. You
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: can run the ball and control the clock all you want.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: If the other team is scoring, you gotta score, right,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Aldred has a question answered to the question. What was
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: the question? Aldred with me again? It's Jaylen Waddle. Yeah,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: she would take Jaalen Wattle, but he wasn't available. Yeah,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: he said, when we are traded up, No, at eleven
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Parson was there, h the quarterback for Chicago was there,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: justin justin field. So with Matt Dallas called back at you,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: do they want to trade? They didn't. Chicago pulled up
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: and took a field, Okay. And then and then like
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: I said, then then Matt, we don't want to so
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: they grabbed Mac right, So we gave our answers. What's
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: your answer? You would have traded up. We know what happened. Okay,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: you would trade up? Okay, So no Christian Barmore on
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: this team? Well, well maybe not, but I would take that.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Swap a quarterback over a defensive lineman. I would take that.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I would have took that. Yeah, because like I said,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: putting with with mc daniels, and Biel. Maybe maybe there
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: might not be the same. Maybe it might be a
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: couple of rugs or a couple of weirds more because
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: he's mobile and he can throw. You know, he's a
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: little accurate. But chicagoing gotten much to work with. Yeah,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: he's not ready yet either, And I think I think
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Mac was more prepared to play right away than justin fields.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: But I saw a lot of good stuff from fields
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: um in short doses. Now here's the thing about those
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: guys that are But you know, the knock on a
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: lot of those guys is when they run around, they
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: make plays, they get hurt. They get hurt, and fields
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: got hurt. Then you go home. Tony writes in uh,
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: this was a success full year. This is a rebuilding team.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: It's improved. Winning three more games and making the playoffs
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: is evidence. However, the only way to continue this improvement
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: is for the GM to procure playmakers at the wide
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: receiver position. The QB needs at least one, probably two
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: wide receivers. They have one top fifteen tight end I think,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: and nothing else in terms of passing weapons. The best
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: wide receiver wouldn't crack the top three of any playoff team,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: and probably of the top twenty teams. He's a solid
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: fourth option on a contender. Belichick cannot overrule his scouts
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: this time and listen to a college coach's recommendation that
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: ended in disaster With Henry. I think you mean Harry.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: It's all on him now, his young quarterback, his entire
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: team needs this if both are to take the next
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: step and become a true contender next year. Free agency
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: wide receivers free agency. I think I led the show
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: by saying, I'm not sure we don't have any. Yeah,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: we'll get them soon. No, but I would be surprised
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: to see them really go after a high profile yeah,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: free agent wide receiver. I probably would be a little
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: surprised at that too. I would only be surprised because
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: they just invested heavily free agents, right, not because I
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: don't think they would sign a big money wide receiver.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: I think the draft is as I think the draft
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: is a possibility, and that's what I mean. I just
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: think you have to realize what team you are right
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: now with Mac Jones and your year two, what your
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: window quote unquote is going to be, where your defense
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: is at. You know, I think you spent a lot
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: of money last year on free agents in the in
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: their twenties on you know, their second NFL deals. You
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: got guys still in their prime that still have football
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: to play. Add add on the back end, add to
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: the young end of that, get some young linebackers. Get
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: a young cornerback. I want to see a little more
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: of a youth movie. Who can help Matt Moore? A
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: Randy Moss type player or a Wes Welker type player.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: Welcome either one. Um, I'd rather have Moss. Either one
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: would help a lot. Probably I would probably tend toward
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: the slot guy because I don't think Max throwing a
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: lot of bombs, But but his bombs will look better
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: with a guy like Moss. Can I ask for Randy
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Moss and his prime not the Randy Moss the Patriots guys?
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, sure, then I'll take Moss. Yeah, which Wes
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: Welker Again. What I'm saying is West Welker at his
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: best is not taking one of those crossers and going seventy.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Randy Moss has taken a crosser and go And I think,
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: like the Welker of it all, Um, the Welcer that
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: he's a very specific slot receiver. But I think I
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: think there are other kinds of slot receivers, you know,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: like waddle like like you know that that maybe have
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: a little more burst. I mean, welc are such a
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: unique guy. It's it's like they don't those guys don't
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: just keep popping up every year. Cooper Cump. Well, yes,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: that's a slot receivers dynamic as any player in the
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: league right right, some real speed and just the ability
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: to get open quick I think that's the that's the
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: biggest thing. I like Jacobe Myers. I think he wins
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: more with his smarts than he does his physical you know,
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: speed ors quickness. I think they just need a guy
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: who's lightning fast and pop can get open, catch the
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: ball and get up field. And that's what you see
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: at a wattle a lot. Here we go, uh vip
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: stripper says Josh Allen's YPA splits in cold weather five
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: point six versus warm seven point eight have been dramatic
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: in a similar number of attempts, as the Bills are
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: currently built to play best in the Dome. And that's
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: via Yahoo Sports. Yeah, and that's all great if they
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: can hold him under thirty. Yeah, because I don't feel
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: great about the Patriots offensive. They had twenty nine against
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: Atlanta and twenty seven against the Jets, Right, I mean,
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: if they're up there, you're in trouble. And and if
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: his yards per attempt go down, they don't care, right
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: But I'm saying I only care about the amount of
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: points on the board, right, But and his yards per
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: attempt could go down if he's doing what he did
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: a lot in the last game, which is checking down
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: to his running back and getting shorter yardage plays which
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: the ball down the field that you know attempts. But
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: that's another really good point. Yeah, so let's let's just
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: look at that three fourteen. You can look at the
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: numbers all you want. That he averaged six and a
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: half per attempt in the game, that he threw for
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: three hundred yards, three touchdowns, and put thirty three on
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: the board. So that's much lower than his warm weather numbers, right. Yeah.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: I also think we're mixing up wind and cold, and
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: like the wind is is a thing that grounds the
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: passing and the correct it affects everybody kind of like,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: you know, I don't really see this being an advantage
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: if it's the wind allowed him to only throw the
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: ball thirty times as opposed to forty seven. Like I
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: don't care necessarily about the production as much as I
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: do the points. And who's gonna cover these people? Who's
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: gonna cover all these people that the bills like he
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: just heard that from like the coaching room down, and
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: who's gonna cover all these guys? Probably probably gonna cover
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Tim mur Fredfred Duncan writes said, first, I have to
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: give credit to Paul in regards to the rookie Offensive
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Player of the Year. I have thought most of the
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: season that it rightfully belonged to Mac, but the last
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: quarter of the season confirmed that it belongs to Jamar
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: just And if you guys watched them play after missing
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: it the first thirteen and it's not even close onto
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: this week's game. I keep hearing the debate as to
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: whether defer to start the game and kick off or
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: take the ball assuming they win the coin flip. I believe,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: uh this is to take the ball game, it will
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: only get colder and potentially the weather will only get
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: worse as the game goes on. This team has showed
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: that it needs a lead early to build upon. I
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: can hear you saying, well, what if they don't score.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: I say, what if you have a seven minute drive
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: with a touchdown to start the game, The chances of
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: scoring first and getting the lead have to be better
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: if you get to kick off, and by the second
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: half the defense has a better understanding of the game
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: and should be better prepared to handle the extra possession.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: I do feel cautiously optimistic for the game as long
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: as they can keep the mistakes to a minimum while
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: playing aggressively. I like, I might be Team Eric this week.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I mean, there's no chances unless this wind that you
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: want to try to strategically get in the fourth quarter,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: which I don't know that, but you're telling me that
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: the conditions are going to be markedly worse temperature wise
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: at ten o'clock as opposed to eight o'clock. Right, that's
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: not how weather works. I think what you're saying, Deuce
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: is that you don't want them to get in a
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: position where they're down on the scoreboard. Right. Well, I mean,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: I just think it's it's worth saying. How you know,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: the defense kind of goes out there and right down
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: the field, So I mean, how many times you need
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: to see that to think are they going to come
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: out and it's I mean, you know, i'd be a
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: little facetious, but but still, you know, I think it's
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: just something to consider when you think, hey, they used
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: to played pretty good in the third quarters. I don't know.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I mean Miami's scoring drives seventy seven yards, seventy seven yards,
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: forty five yards. Um, the Patriots aren't great in the
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: third quarter. No great. I don't think second and fourth
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: of their quarters one forty three to seventy seven, one
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: sixty five to seventy one, first and third are basically
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: it just blew up. My whole anecdote with facts stopped. Well,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: I just because my mind's because I keep thinking of
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: all these you know, counterpoints to my defer is like
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: you keep thinking, oh, well they had a bad first step,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: but they got the ball coming out, and every time
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: they do they go three high, right, so it doesn't
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: really matter. But I think the Buffalo, I mean that
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: place in the first quarter you get the ball, I mean,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: that's gonna be a raucous atmosphere, hard to go out there.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: I'm not gonna if they decide, if they decide to
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: take the ball, I'm not gonna kill them. It's not
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: it's not gonna be the reason why they win or lose. Right,
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: But I just feel like, just for the off chance
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: for the double, I would I would do it that way,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: but it's not iteent of football. Games are not decided
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: by what a team opted to do after the coin toss, right,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I mean, every once in a while you get the
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: double score and it really swung the momentum. I was
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: joking with Eric fred I don't know if you happen
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: to notice you watch any of the game on Saturday,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: or you just in the the ocean living it up
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: in Miami, floating Kansas City, Kansas City and Denver player,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: watch did you watch it? I was at a Hooters.
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: I watched the whole thing. Okay, so maybe at a
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Hooters you might have had the game, your attention was
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: drawn to other things, especially at Hooters in Miami. The wings. Um.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: I can only imagine what the Hooters in Miami looks like,
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: but probably better than Sauga's, right, maybe, so Tanner Denver
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: won the toss and elected to Recaul was given. So
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: I gave this teric. But here's how here's how said
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: game unfolded. Yeah, Denver went three and out. Kansas took
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: the ball, went down the field, scored, got the ball
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: at the end of the half, went down the field
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: to kick the field goal, got the ball to start
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: the third quarter, win down the field, score a touchdown. Right,
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: you can make is right. You can make an argument
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: that was one of those games, one of those like
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: five percent of NFL games that having the start of
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: the second half, you know, was was the difference in
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: the game? Shrisha in Bangalore, Right soon spent a tumultu
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: was a few weeks for the Patriots. But we're in
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: the playoffs. But before I have the Bill's game related stuff,
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: I just want to say, how the hell does Joe
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: Judge have a job? I'm not want to call for
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: sacking and one, but that man is one heck of
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: a mystery there. Um. Now to the wild card weekend.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I don't think we have much of a chance of
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: winning this weekend. We should not. We could not stop
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: the pass because our secondary stinks, we don't have any
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: good corners to go with JC, and our linebackers are
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: too slow. And now that Barmore is out, I don't
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: think we can stop the run, not like we did
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: a good job when we had him. So I think
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: this will be a short playoff run. Well, we don't
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: know that Barmore's out. Plus he's not on there in
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: early downs anyway. You know, he's usually he's a little bit.
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: He does play a lot, but like if he's off,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: it's first down, you know, early in the game. But
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: I think he see they've been playing him doing everything,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: and he's continued to I'm with you, though, I don't
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: like his chances are playing just because of the way
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: he left the game. But I he certainly hasn't been
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: confirmed that he's out or I just thought of something. Wow,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: you know, you know what I saw yesterday was that
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: you know how Pro Football Focus always puts out like
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the top five performers from the game, and they like
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: who the five guys were? So Davon Godcha like retweeted it.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: He was like number three in that game, really and
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: they had one hundred and ninety five yards. Look, and
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: what did he not play a lot? Was it like
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: one of those snap count things? Oh no, he played
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: forty three plays. Yeah, he played. Sorry, that's another that's
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: another one that cast dispersions on PF. You allowed one
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: hundred and ninety five yards rushing, but yet one of
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: your guys in the front was great. Okay, um um okay.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: I mean maybe he wasn't as bad as the rest,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: but he was one of the best players in the field.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: He's like, they were running away from me all day. Run.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: On the other side, James Pettig grew, the most interesting
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: Patriots fan of the world, says, Buffalo maybe built for
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: a dome. Unfortunately our team is built for a hurricane. Um. Yeah,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: and the whole Like I get, I get why people
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: are not necessarily thrilled this matchup, but there is a
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: lot of uh sort of knowledge here on both sides.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: And you know, Bill knows building. Bill has seen a
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: lot of this stuff. And I got to think to
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: say that they don't have a chance, I think, is oh,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: that's crazy, really crazy, that's that's really out there. I
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: was just I wanted, Bills, I want another shot of
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: these guys. Let's go. I just wanted. I thought you
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: didn't waste your time with that. I don't now we
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: find out that you wanted. I don't do it out
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: of fear. I'm afraid to play about fear. It's about desire. No,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: it's the path of least resistance. That's what it is
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: what you want path of least resistance. I'm not doing that.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: I wanted the Bengals only because I wanted a different opponent,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: something exciting professionally from a professional like for this show. Yeah,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: but that's why not most people. Most people like Who's
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: the East. People wanted Buffalo because they thought they were easy.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: Who's the team that we have the easiest chance to beat?
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: And everybody thought that was Buffalo wish for. But you
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: know that's fine. All the fan holes that these your
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: stations are putting up there, they all said, your competings,
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: I want them just to get another crack at them,
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: because I think it could be I like that, and
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: there's an element that I like to this that it
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: stays in the division. And you know, for me, that's
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: always where I kind of start my focus of the
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: year of getting to the playoffs through the division. You
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: finished three and three, you lost bookend games to the Dolphins,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: you got beat pretty handily by the Bills for the
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: second time in a row at home, and now you
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: get another chance at the Bills. So I think you
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: come out of the season with, you know, a lot
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: of thoughts on the division and how we stack up
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: and we got two shots at or a second shot
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: at Buffalo up there? How does that go? Does that
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: look any different than it looked when it was here
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: in regular conditions? I think that's a lot of what
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: you're pondering in the off season is how do the
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: Patriots stack up in the division. Of course, Flora's leaving
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: I think changes that dynamic a little bit, because I
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: think if he was still there, you probably have an
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: argument of saying they're the third best team in the
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: division even though they finished second. Right now, and how
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: do you get out of that right uh? Prenae writes
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: in from Chicago. My opinion with season in review, with
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: all the information I have now compared to when the
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: season started, I think when Mac was able to get
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: starting the starting quarterback job from Newton, everyone just went
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: back to OH one and compared him to Brady. But
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: my opinion is Newton is such a bad quarterback. Even
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: Sam Darnold was able to take back the job from him,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: even though he's terrible. Point, I think when the season started,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: getting the QB one job as an indication on camp
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: status more than the ability of Mac. Now, I think
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: anyone can get the job from Cam like Paul said
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: a couple of times. So my final opinion is if
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: the team is loaded with weapons, he can definitely take
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: you to the super Bowl like he did with Alabama.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: But I don't know if he is capable of winning
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: games without help like Brady always did. Yeah, well, maybe
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: not yet, but he could be. Nobody's able to do
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: what Brady can do. And I think it too, Like
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: to the guy's point, that's what people were saying. Yeah,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: but I think I think Mac did win the job.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I don't. I mean Cam was bad, but I think
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: we saw enough out of Mac in training camp that
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: it was impressive and that he played well and it
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: wasn't like Man, He's just less of a disaster than
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Cam is. That's kind of how I felt. Yeah, I
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: don't think he lost the job. I think Cam. I
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: mean I think Cam was. I think Cam was. Note
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: the COVID thing was the final nail. I don't think
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Cam from the time we saw him in OTA's all
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: the way through the last day, he was a Patriot.
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: Never looked any different than he did last year. No. Now,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: you you guys all saw how he played last year,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: you might not have seen all the practices the way
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: we did. But you saw how he played last year.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: That's the same as he looked. Ye I don't think.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: I think Mac was on virtually every day. He was
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: better than Cam by a lot. No, but Mac was.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I mean Cam was bad. Yea. I think I kind
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: of think he did lose the job. I don't understand
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: why he was back in the first place. I just
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: know how my feelings barts in Poland. Is it just me?
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: Or is play Buffalo as a number six seed better
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: than playing them as a number five seed. The Chefs
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: are winning against the Steelers, so if we win, we
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: get the Titans. No matter what. Josh Allen actually plays
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: much worse at home. So let's just hope for a
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: weather game, and I can see us easily coming out
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: of Buffalo with a victory. Also, why didn't need to
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: hope for a weather game because it's going to be easy.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: If it's gonna be easy, Why didn't need to hope
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: for a weather game? Oh what the weather it becomes.
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: You should hope that they have a retractable dome if
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: you think it's gonna be Also, what a bummer that
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: it wasn't a tie in Sunday Night football. Now we
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: are going to see the Steelers in the playoffs. Basically
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: a buy for Kansas City. But you're right, you're a
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: larger point, is right. Mike was all over that one
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: during the postgame show. I think, yeah, it lines you
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: up now as the sixth seed. There's very very little
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: chance that you're not gonna If you win, you'll have
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: to play the one because there's very little chance of
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: the seventh seed beating Kansas City. So that I think
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: that's a break may end from Lauterdale right. According to
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: The Finn's beat writer Omar Kelly and now deleted tweet,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: Kavin was released because he called out Flow for bad
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: play calling last year and became unbearable to Flow. He
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: was a leader in the locker room and able to
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: rally guys behind him, and floatedn't like that. So the
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: end of the season came and he was released. Omar
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: deleted his tweet, stating Kaven might see it and he
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: know how he knows how he gets Omar can't confirm.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: Omar also tweeted flo was dismissed because he was disagreeing
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: with Greer a lot, essentially communication issues between the two.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: Omar ended with Flow is an a hole like his
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: former New England boss. Wow, that's this is why I
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: said what I said about whenever it's universal, there's always
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: a side of the story that no one knows right, right,
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: because people aren't that stupid, Like I generally think the
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: worst of a lot of people, But people are not
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: that stupid that every single person who's ever watched then
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: NFL game thinks it was a travesty that that guy
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: lost his job yesterday. There has to be something we
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: don't know, right, And I'm not saying that's it. I'm
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: not I don't know. I'm not vouching for Omar Kelly.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's right. I've heard some things about
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: Van Noy that are a lot worse than that. Juan
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: writes in he's from Stratford, Connecticut. You guys are always
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: a blast to listen to it. I had a quick question.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: I'm wondering if anyone saw on Sunday's game when Mills
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: got called in the PI in the end zone, j
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: C came over to the area the call and started
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: kicking the yellow flag. Yeah, that was should have drawn
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: a flag if he had actually right, it seemed like
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: Jackson was quite displeased with the officials at that point,
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: and after that it seemed like Jackson and Mills got
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: taken off the game, their game. Is it possible this
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: means the defense is lacking maturity or discipline lately. Yes, lacking. Yeah,
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: I mean I think the team itself like it's it's
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: weird because I think they've shown a lot of mental
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: toughness at times during the course of the season, but
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: I think they have shown an alarming lack of maturity
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: and and you know, I'm not sure those two things
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: would necessarily be thought of as different, but I just
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: I think they've had some times where they have looked
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: like they've let the emotions get the better of them.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: And like the the Trent Brown reaction to the have
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: the flag on Josh Allen you know that, you know,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: and to Brown's credit, he took full responsibility for that afterwards,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: unlike some other instances this year where we've continued to
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: bitch about the call and you know, talk about it later.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: I think there have been some examples of that, and
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: I know the play that he's talking about, Yeah, with Jackson,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: I mean, that was a tickie tack call. It was
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: a terrible call. It wasn't a terrible call. It was
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: a terrible call. Here's why I don't think it should
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: have been a penalty, all right, It should have been
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: ruled uncatchable, Okay, because Hollins was looking on the inside
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: and the ball went out side. Yeah, otherwise Mills put
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: two arms or no he didn't. He did, No, he didn't.
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: And it's the same play that I thought was a
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: terrible call. There is where I'm fair on the Dolphins.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: There was a terrible call on the Dolphins that set
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: up the Patriots touchdown on a ball down there. Yeah,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: the one on Hunter Henry was not p I No,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: that was two Yeah, that was a second one. That
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: was one that on a third and ten a failed
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: third and ten earlier, and that wasn't That wasn't interference either, right,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: I agree, I agree um Jacking and Arbor says the
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: Patriots lost to the Dolphins by three points twenty seven,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: twenty four. The last score by Miami doesn't count. Why
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: does the last score by the Patriots. It was just ridiculous. No, No,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: the last score by the Patriots the Miami was ridiculous.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: But why does my Why do the Patriots garbage time
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: points counting on. It wasn't garbage time. It was what
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: are you talking about? They scored to get down by
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: us another score and all the other team I had
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: to do is get it first down and the game
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: was over. The garbage time is not garbage time. The
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: game was still in play play barbage time. Several plays
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: during the game could have changed the outcome. But to
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: stand out, if mccordy had caught the interception and guy
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: had not lined up over the long snapper, the Patriots
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: would have won our Or you could substitute bold and
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: not roughing the sliding passes. The point is that the
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Patriots lost because of unforced errors. What can the Patriots
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: do in preparation from to the bills to eliminate unforced errors? Okay,
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: if we'll let's get rid of the governments time comments
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: so we can talk about this seriously. Not okay, I'm
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: not doing the snarky thing. Do you think Miami changed
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: anything that they did defensively in the fourth quarter? Do
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: I think that they changed anything that they did defensively?
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Um like in other words, like, I don't know why
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: we just focus on us for everything? It was unforced errors.
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: I had nothing to do with Miami took the opening
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: kickoff and jammed it. Write down your throat and put
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: a seven nothing lead on the board, and then three
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: plays later picked off a pass and went up and
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: that that's not forced, that's unforced. I guess that's an
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: unforced error where Mac Jones is completely confused by Xavian
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: Howard falling off his guy, dropping off another guy, and
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: then picking off and running it back. So I was
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: fourteen nothing. How many games do you win when that
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: happen when games start that way? Okay, not many? Yeah, right,
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: But it was all because the Patriots handed the game
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: to Miami. But what he pointed out were unforced errors. No,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: there were things that were unforced in the game. Yes, yeah,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: just like Miami dropping a slant pass that you admitted
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: would have been a big play was an unforced error
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: by Miami. There were things that happened during the course.
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: These teams are not perfect. But when you start off
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: a game zero fourteen, eight minutes in, you're gonna lose.
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: You're gonna lose. Unless you have Brady, You're gonna lose
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: those games more often than not. I don't know. I
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: would I would even call the pass by Mac unforced.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: He wasn't under pressure. It was just a bad pass.
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: He got fooled. Yeah, Howard Howard covering somebody else and
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: reacted to the play. It was you know what it
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: was like Miles Bryant and the last play of the
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: game in Buffalo, Bryant was covering the guy cutting across
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: the field, dropped off of his guy and knocked down
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: the past that was going somewhere else. Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, yeah,
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: I got you. Let me know if you disagree. My
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: this is like holding his tongue over there. He's like
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: he looked. Yeah, no, no, like Miles Bryant. Cheeks aren't.
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Aren't like a symbol of like holding something in But
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: Miles Bryant was covering Beasley coming across the field on
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: that last play. Yeah, Josh now broke off to Gabriel
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: Davis in the back back line of the end zone. Now,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: the throw was bad and short, but Bryant, I thought,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: came off of his guy and was able to knock
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: the past time. Yeah, and Matt telegraphed it and gave
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: the guy that wasn't covering him chance to come over
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: and make the plays. Sure, maybe, I mean, if you
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: want to buoy him it on. Mac you're a little
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: I mean, we all know what you feel about Mac
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: Man mad. I think you have the right. Yeah, I
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: don't think Max's that good. So again, I mean that's
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: with the philosophical differences. Lie h Josh one more email
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: Josh and Hatfield Mass. I think the Patriots got the
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: optimum time for a playoff game masterclass right there. If
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: there's a team you can sacrifice the day to play,
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: it's against division opponent, and if they pull out a win,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: they hopefully get an extra data prepare random thought. I
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: look forward to the show every day. You guys are
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: the best. I would I mean, I don't know what's
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: going to happen, but my assumption would be they would
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: play on Saturday, go to Tennessee. Why would they intentionally
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: give someone a short week, you know, coming back, you know,
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: coming coming around again the next time, whereas the Patriots
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: would be on regular rest on playing Saturday to Satya.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: That would be my guess. But I mean, don't they
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: like to put the number one seeds in those prime times? Laws? Usually? Yeah,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: but then the Titans buy will be one day short,
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: oh yeah, and they can complain about that. Oh my God,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: can you imagine the puddles they'll turn into another by
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: the way, another lack of maturity. Yeah, And I wanted
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: to bring that up at the bye because, you know,
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: and I think that that like little like we're feeling
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: sorry for ourselves and everyone kind of fell over ourselves
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: trying to analyze it. But I mean, I do think
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: that's another example of you come off a big win
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: over Buffalo and everybody's like we're back and Bill genius
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: coaching plan and all that, and I mean, I think
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: that that was a little bit of a moment in
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: there where they maybe bought into the hype a little
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: bit and no doubt, you know, took their foot off
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: the gas. Do salt? All Right, that's gonna be it
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back tomorrow,
