- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I am Lucas, and this is Luna. We are so glad you are here. Luna: Hi everyone! It is Luna. We have been talking about the gym lately, but today we are going somewhere a bit different. Lucas: That is right. No weights today. We are going to the dentist. Or rather, the Zahnarzt in German. Luna: Oh no. I do not love the dentist. But it is important to know what to say if something hurts. Lucas: Exactly. And the first thing you need to know is how to tell them where it hurts. The most common phrase is: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Luna: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Let me try that. Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Lucas: Perfect. That means 'I have toothache.' Notice the compound word: Zähne for teeth, and Schmerz for pain. Together, Zahnschmerzen. Luna: Right. Teeth and pain. Okay. Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. That feels solid. Lucas: It does. So, imagine you walk into the clinic. You need to see someone immediately. You might ask: Haben Sie noch einen Termin? Luna: Haben Sie noch einen Termin? Does that mean 'Do you still have an appointment?' Like, for me? Lucas: Yes. Literally, 'Do you have one more appointment?' It is a polite way to ask for a slot. Let's practice together. Luna: Okay. Haben Sie noch einen Termin?... Haben Sie noch einen Termin? Lucas: Good job. If the receptionist says yes, she might ask you to sit down. She will say: Bitte warten Sie. Luna: Bitte warten Sie. That sounds very formal. Is it always formal? Lucas: In a professional setting like a doctor's office, yes. It means 'Please wait.' It is polite and clear. Say it with me. Luna: Bitte warten Sie. Okay. I can hear her saying it now. Very calm voice. Lucas: And then, when you finally sit in the chair, you need to show them the problem. You point and say: Es tut weh. Luna: Es tut weh. 'It hurts.' Simple. Direct. I like that one. Lucas: It is essential. If you just say 'pain,' it is vague. But 'Es tut weh' tells them exactly what is happening. Let's repeat it. Luna: Es tut weh.... Es tut weh. Oh my gosh, that actually makes sense. Lucas: It really does. Now, let's put it all together in a little scene. You walk in. You say: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Luna: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Right. I am at the front desk. Lucas: You ask: Haben Sie noch einen Termin? And the receptionist replies: Bitte warten Sie. Luna: Bitte warten Sie. Okay, I am sitting in the chair now. I point to my jaw and say: Es tut weh. Lucas: Beautiful. The dentist looks at you and says: Das ist kein Problem. Luna: Das ist kein Problem. 'That is no problem.' Or 'That is not a problem.' That is reassuring to hear. Lucas: It is. It means they can fix it. So our five phrases today are: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen, Haben Sie noch einen Termin, Bitte warten Sie, Es tut weh, and Das ist kein Problem. Luna: Let's run through them one last time to lock them in. Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Lucas: Haben Sie noch einen Termin? Luna: Bitte warten Sie. Lucas: Es tut weh. Luna: Das ist kein Problem. Wow. That was actually quite smooth. Lucas: I know. You did great. These phrases are simple but they cover the whole emergency visit. From the door to the chair. Luna: Yeah. I feel much less anxious just knowing the words. Even if I don't use them often, it is good to be prepared. Lucas: That is the goal. Confidence comes from preparation. And Fexingo helps build that foundation, one small phrase at a time. Luna: Speaking of which, we want to share something real with you. This show is made by a tiny team. There are no ads. No sponsors. Lucas: We rely on listeners who believe in this method. A small group supports us monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: If that resonates with you, checking out that link helps keep the episodes coming. No pressure at all. Just if you can. Lucas: Thank you for listening. Whether you support or not, we are happy you are learning with us. Luna: So, let's recap the dentist scene one last time. You arrive. You say: Ich habe Zahnschmerzen. Lucas: You ask: Haben Sie noch einen Termin? And you wait: Bitte warten Sie. Luna: Then you point and say: Es tut weh. And the dentist smiles and says: Das ist kein Problem. Lucas: Exactly. You handled it perfectly. Practice these until we chat again. Luna: Bye for now! Take care of those teeth! Lucas: See you next time. Auf Wiedersehen.
