- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Five, six, seven, eight, raincoats, and recipes.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: And recipes.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and recipes.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sorry.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about it.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Hi everybody, welcome back to Gilmore to Consider with Tara and Haley.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Tara.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is Haley.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Haley.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Tara.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: So listen, I know we were supposed to have our episode with you better.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we were supposed to have our episode with John Stevens this week.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we tease at the end of last week's episode.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: But Haley and I both got really sick.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Haley gave me her cold.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's really what it felt like.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because I was sick.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then suddenly Tara was sick with exactly what I had.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then mind just continued on.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so we have a
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it happened Halloween of 20, oh my gosh, so right, we had to cancel our board for the film.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: And we had to do.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I will never forget if you guys go and watch the original.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: The original clue episode of 20, 24.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: I look like I've been pulled from the pits of hell.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what that bad.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think I look pretty tough at least like I can remember how I felt you probably felt that way, but it's not it's not giving that in appearance.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, thank you.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate that.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: I felt that way before I moved out of my old studio before I moved in with Brad and I just will never forget like I could barely talk.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: My energy like my eyes were just like kind of open.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was really trying to be there and we had a lot of fun.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: We had so much fun.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that for how sick of you were, you really showed up.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was a heart.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was brutal.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's a heart attack.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now this is more of like vocally.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is not, maybe the best day for us.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: I did do my steam this morning.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like such a, I feel like such a professional when I do my steamer.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Because like I never thought before, I'm like, what do we do for living?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: We talk.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: We talk, but yeah, I don't treat my vocal cords like I talk.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, you know.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's so funny because I used to be so like, I used to baby my vocal cords so much when I was singing a lot and now that I talk for a living, I never do it.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I was steaming and I was like, you know, just doing my steam.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a speaker might.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like a speaker might help kind of, not really.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's, I feel like it's really helped you a lot.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is the best I've sounded in a week.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: I actually, this is the best I have felt in a week as well.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think I sound worse.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you sound worse, but you definitely sound congested.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I can hear it in your voice.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I am.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: You have like that.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Have you seen that episode of Friends with Phoebe and she's got her cold?
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Masticky, shoot.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: I actually haven't only seen a couple of episodes.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, I love that show so much, but
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: She gets a cold, I think she gives it to Monica and then she wants her cold back because in need her voice sounds so like sexy and raspy with that reminds me of when I was sick once and someone called it, at least sexy voice.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, yeah, with that feedback this time.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, all of this is to say, we, like not only were our voices not, you know, up to speed when we were supposed to record with John yesterday,
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: But on Monday, both of us were just like erupting and it's still happening into these like coughing.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: For a little call.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, that's not how I want to talk to Johnston.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to talk to John on Friday when we're feeling a bit better.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: And that episode will go for a little bit next week.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking to him in a couple of days from where we're recording this and then that episode will go up next week.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so in the meantime, we were like, what can we do?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: How can we service the best days because we're not going to skip an episode for you guys?
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, do we have a dark day?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, is this her first ever dark day?
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Cause I like wanted to have one just for the bit, you know?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that's what we were going to suggest yesterday.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of wanted to, but like, it just felt like a weird time to do it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know why, but this July is not turning out to be like any July we've had for sure.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: July is usually like, I wrote this in our breakdown.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: I always do like a breakdown of what our month to month is going to look like at the end of a year for the following year.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: and in July I had written like break for the girlies prep for fall because that's what we always do time we usually like bulk record we take a week off in July I usually go up and see my mom it's it's one of those things where it's like July is usually so sweet this has been the most chaotic July we've ever had
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: it's also because like there's things that keep getting scheduled and then rescheduled and then move to a different month and then oh it's back on and we're doing this now and then it's not happening.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's kind of like being pulled around which is that sort of very good our personal lives like that are happening, you know.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: So it's
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not very July of us or again.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, like it.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, so things have been a little chaotic, but we wanted to make sure that we didn't do a dark day today.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I can be a dim day.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little bit of a dim day.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I've my shade down right now for those on YouTube.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not as bright as I usually am, you know, and so maybe that's a symbol of the dim day.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Tim Day sounds like for not very smart today.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be still in my day.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be true.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be true.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not true.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: So in asking you guys like what kind of episodes you wanted to hear from us this year when we did our summer check-in last week, a lot of you said that you wanted us to go back into our voicemails and into the archive and it's so funny because we've talked about that a lot about how we have just this bank of voicemails from you guys calling
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: kind of there.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And our voicemail episodes have been about like most of our voicemails that we play, if we play any, have been for the roundup at the end of the month.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: And they they pertain to the episodes that we talked about that month.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: And so this was kind of cool to go back.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: My, my best friend Liz, who's, who's working with us and she does some assistant work for us.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: She kind of like built this voicemails spreadsheet for us so we could go back and kind of mind.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought it was really
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: Dating back to as far as January of 2025 about ring coats and recipes, which isn't episode that we did a scene breakdown for or first scene breakdown for us that in April.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: I gosh, I feel like just yesterday.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Is that true?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's an April.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, April 14th, but he's my dean.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, that's such a fun episode.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I loved that one.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to do more of that
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: me too.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so we had three very interesting voicemails come in that I thought would be fun to do a little more of a deeper dive on rain coats and recipes and posing some questions one of which I do think we talked about but I'd love to explore a little bit more but the other two were just takes that I was like oh I've never thought about this before okay it's a very divisive episode so there's a lot to there's a lot to explore yeah
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: And you guys, if you don't remember raincoat to recipes that I do remember one of like the earliest feedback of like explain what the episode is about, yeah, based on the title.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's season four episode 22.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: It is the finale.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: It is the test run at the end.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone is walking upstairs with their doors.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: And as it turns out, Dean is at Rory's house, Luke and the Orlando in the front porch.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Kirk has the scariest, you know what I mean?
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, night terrors.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's that's that's the episode.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for that synopsis.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was perfect.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I actually encapsulated everything.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, lights.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that happened.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: He has a room.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: He has a room.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: That line kills me every time.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, no, wait, does it?
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: And she knows it.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: She does.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: She knows it.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: She's being a little potster.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But just for the Dean haters out there, which include the two of us, this is going to be like a brilliant, Dean heavy weight.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to tease this episode, you have to listen to the Irishmit episode coming later this month because I was shocked by what he had to say about it.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: What is it going up?
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's going up July 22nd and he had things to say.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: I got warned about this.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: You did get warned about it.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, but.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: I will let him speak for himself.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: I will let him be the one to tell you his feelings undene.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of made me go, he told me about it before we started recording and I wish he had told me when we were recording because I guess.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you could capture the shock and I guess out loud.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just wait.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Just wait.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, very excited for that.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: Everything you shared about recording that episode with him thought was a lot of fun.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: Delightful man, Delightful.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, love.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting takes.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I was trying to figure out how I wanted to present these three voicemails.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that I want to start with this first voicemail because it does include some conversation from ring coats and recipes, but really involves the episode prior, which is last week fights this week.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's the episode where Liz and TJ get married, and Luke and Laura
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: He does do a lot of shouting, interesting that you save that because our bestie McKenna called in, back in January of 2025.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: So it's been like a year and a half.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is really coming from the archives.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: And she had something to a question to pose for us.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: A little what it, if you will.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: So let's film our Bestie McKenna.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_04]: Hi, oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm calling.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_04]: This is a long time listener for a time caller and I wanted to get your guys's perspective on something.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm locking raincoat and recipes currently and Jess just came in and asked Rory to run away with him and she's telling Lane about it and obviously she leads Dean out of the equation because of
- 9:47[SPEAKER_04]: And I was sitting there thinking, do you think that this gain or if Rory and Dean were not in this weird situation ship right before they're about to cheat with each other that maybe Rory would have considered getting back together with Jess or running away with him like convincing him otherwise.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, this is all speculation because it is a TV show, but I just had the ceiling where I was like
- 10:15[SPEAKER_04]: and dress came swooping in.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_04]: Would she has thought to go with him or thought to get back together with him?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_04]: What do you guys think?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_04]: Anyways, oh, and this is my kind of.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't even introduce myself.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_04]: Hi, I'm McKenna.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks so much.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_04]: Bye.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_04]: Hi, McKenna.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_04]: I loved it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, oh my gosh, where's her name?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then she was like, she's like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: I loved this.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Also, you can speculate with us whenever you want to know this is a TV show.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: She was like, this is a TV show.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't know what may do think that you couldn't talk to us about us.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: We've been doing this for quite some time.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: Love that you're a long time listener for some more.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, quite fun.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I love this situation that she has presented to us, because I think that, honestly, Roy's love life with Dean and Jess is like one of the weaker parts of season four, because it doesn't feel like we're building up Roy's emotions towards it enough.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think she would feel similarly to how she does even if she wasn't invested in Dean, because the last time she saw Jess was when he said I love you,
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: any left.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then now this is the next time he's seeing her.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like this is a lot of like whiplash for worry with just Jess.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: But it may me think about what if that I would like to present to you.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what if?
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Rory was with that guy, like the weird guy that her grandma was trying to set her up with and like she ended up leaving and calling Dean and Dean came and got her whatever What if instead of Dean like showing up and her calling him?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: What if somehow in that situation just ends up there?
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like maybe the guy brought her back to her dorm, maybe something like she was trying to get rid of him and just as the one that shows up.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that she would gravitate towards Jess to get away from the sky?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know what the circumstances are.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Jess is actually going to show up at this bar.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, I don't know what the circumstances are of getting out of the situation.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: But it's kind of like choosing the bear or Jess.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, which one are you going with?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: If in some capacity, that episode did not bring Dean into it.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: But Jess was brought into the situation where maybe she has to decide to go with this guy or talk to Jess.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, here's the thing is that I do think that that matters because what I was going to say to McKenna's question is I agree with you, Haley, that I think it's likely that she would have reacted the same way regardless of where she was at with Dean because when we saw her in the middle of the season where he says I love you and he runs away.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: She's mad at him, she's angry.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, I've thought about this a lot, like what I would say to you if I ever saw you again.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: So or like what you would say to me.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think there's a lot of pain, a lot of anger there, but not much that we get from her.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree with you that that, I think was a miss on the writers.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I've always wondered if that's something they would have tried to explore in Windward Circle.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: But removing that element,
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: And removing Dean from the situation altogether, I do think changes things because part of the conversation that McKenna highlights here that Lori has with Lane is her comparing her relationship with Jess to her relationship with Dean and the safety and the security that Dean provided and so it was the reason I found this voice mail so interesting is because it's like if
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: where he didn't have that comparison steering her in the face.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Which I think whether she was on the precipice of cheating with Dean or not, would have existed anyway, because she was always doing that when they were together in season three.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: She was already comparing, which was really so hard not to.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course, but I don't think she ever really truly found a way to do that, because Dean was always going to be this ideal boyfriend in her mind and also
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: that idea was inflated by the town and by her mom.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because Dean was the perfect first boyfriend and you can't use him as a comparison but she always was going to.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't know if I have a firm answer on I don't think she would have gone with him but I do think they have reacted differently.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: She might have been calmer.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if she didn't have Dean to compare Jess to immediately in the moment and so bringing it to your what if I think that if that guy whose name I can't remember it's something like Chase Bradford, you know, it's been for junior absolutely ridiculous.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then Jess comes bursting in.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's not as interesting as the three of them standing the door in Jess.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, which one of these three is going to kiss?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think that Lori would have felt a little bit of relief.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been conflicting.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been conflicting for sure.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Dean makes her feel safe.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jess doesn't really make her feel safe anymore, but did it one point.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: And this other guy doesn't make her feel safe at all.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that when it comes down to it, if it's between CBJ and Jess, I think she still would have been like, oh, okay, thank God, if familiar face, but then immediately realized,
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't trust you anymore.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been a very different conversation.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think just would have come in still with the same like I need to talk to you.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, talk to you.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I need to talk to you is actually run away with me.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: There was any circumstance under which worry would have run away with him.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: But no other thing.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I'm on a, I'm on a tear.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: the other thing that I was thinking about when I first listened to this voice mail earlier today is not only was Roy comparing her relationship with dean and the impending like chemistry that was about to physically was himself and explode.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: but also she had been getting in part of the reason that I think she even agreed to go on this little date with this guy from Emily, because she was kind of strong-armed into it, but everybody kept commenting on the fact that she did not have a boyfriend that year.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know what I mean?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's kind of where we're coming from.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: in last week, fight to speak tights, is that like, Lori is kind of being criticized for not having a significant other, not even being in a drought.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, a drought as as Paris calls it.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't know, like that also has my mind kind of churning on whether or not she would have leaned in it all to Jess, she wouldn't have run away with him, but
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: would she have entertained the idea out of pure, less, less out of having residual feelings, but more out of the pure criticism that she was receiving from her peers about not being in a relationship for the first time, which is something she also probably, I mean, she definitely talked about in season four.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think what's weird about the Rory relationship at the end of season four though is that like that sort of setup of like Rory's in a drought shouldn't have a boyfriend in the season.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Who does she feel safe with where does she see herself going like romantically?
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't really align with Jess like her relationship with Jess at all.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's really just that is the Dean Arc.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: because when it comes back to Jess, Jess doesn't come in and it's like, hey, do you think we could like chat?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: He comes in and he's like, I want to run away with you.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: Your stuff's in boxes.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: We both need to carry it because we're both quite small.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like he's coming in and it's like, let's have a drink.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's chat.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he comes in.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he comes in with a file.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's zero to 60, which is.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even think he started at zero.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he started closer to 55.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: And he did the same thing when he told her he loved her.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was all reckless.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's very reckless.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I know the conversation that he has with Luke is so endearing.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's like, oh my gosh, I want to make this decision.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I'm with Luke so sweet.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: But when he comes and presents it to Roy, you're just like, my dude, no, no.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: I agree even speaks to that in that conversation.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: But Lane and Marine Coates are recipes.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, because Lane does say, like,
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: What did you like how did you feel?
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, listen, Jess is great one minute.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next minute he's nowhere to be found.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that no matter what whether it was Dean and and they had feelings for each other or it was this other guy CBJ or or anybody.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do think that is kind of like, what is his name?
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: I do think at the end of the day, that's how she feels about Jess.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's how he left her feeling at the end of season three.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you're a great one minute and I think I may have loved you, but that's very deep in my energy to feel seen but not feel safe.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like that's really what it is between Dean and Jess is like Dean didn't always see what she wanted But he was going to make her feel safe and like regardless of all of the criticisms that we've had that's kind of his Thing at least by season four.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Jess, I feel like he made her feel seen and I think that
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably receive a lot of flack from the jask early to say that in season 3, he wasn't necessarily making her feel safe in their relationship, but it was exciting, and she felt very seen in the relationship that they had, but she didn't feel safe in the sense that she wasn't always sure what their plans were going to be.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: She wasn't sure if he was going to call.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, he was very unreliable.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: He was very unreliable.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that was where a lot of their friction came from, also from Dean himself.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it was more so that he made her feel really seen which she really appreciated.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that she always kind of thought he was going to.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: leave like that because it was just so just in a way that Dean never would have.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: Dean was like hanging on to this relationship that he knew was over.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and so when she's ended things with both of them in season four, now, say for scene,
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: is a completely different thing because she doesn't care.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm not gonna run away with you just because you feel like you know me.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this guy makes me feel stable in a way that like, your first year of college really kind of rocks you a little bit.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone is telling her that she hasn't been in a relationship.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: And for some reason that's a problem for a 19 year old, which like, in her freshman year of kind of, you know, I felt that pressure too when I was at school.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Who are you dating?
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Are you dating?
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's the first question everyone asks you and you're like, why don't you have a boyfriend?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't know.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: This is not a question you can ask me.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: But I think with Rory it felt like a moral failing.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: She didn't have someone.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: So she was going to take anyone's man.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: Please make her feel safe.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree with you.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd like to flip the question on its ear one more time.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because the question really is, would Rory have run away with Jess if not for Dean being there?
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think the question is, would Roy have jumped into bed with Dean and been pushed towards him if not for the experience with Jess outside of her dorm at Yale?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she would have.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Eventually, but I do think her conversation with Lane about what happens about the justice and being and being so upset that Jess was there, like I think eventually something would have happened, but I think it happened when it did because Rory was like, oh, I have this comparison of the chaos that my relationship was and the relationship I left this guy for.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: In front of me, it's like, it's here, it's personified through Jess, and then there's Dean.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I actually feel like posing the question of like just coming in and hitting her with all of this information, feelings and verbally just being like, cut runaway with me versus Dean, who seems to be the dependable, reliable one.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think that pushed her further towards Dean.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think it pushed her closer.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that it was intact because I think that's what's so weak about Roy's relationship at the end of season four.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Is it the Jess and the Dean's storylines don't feel dependent on each other?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like it feels like they're like loosely driving the other one forward.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: But like if you take one out, it's still like Dean's arc with Roy still.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty strong.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just wish that the Jess and Roy arc would have mingled with that a little bit more.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: to make it more interesting and to make them feel more dependent on each other because if you take Jess out and you take that reflection with Lane because that's all it really feels when you talk to Lane because Lane bad advice.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, you have given the worst sort of advice to the squirrel.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's married.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like we should be we should be a little more detrimental towards your friend.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: This is my advice towards Lane.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that that was more of like the most that we get about worries like kind of like internal monologue, like her interiority, which we don't get a lot of, but I think even without that, we as an audience, it feels more of like the jaws theme song.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: with the shirt of like oh no where are we heading yeah but I think even without it it's still wouldn't it still would have happened the way it was supposed to happen but I think it did push them closer together yeah it forced the issue because the next time that Dean and Maurice each other well it's through the window it looks when she waves at him and he's like three no he's like I'm not um nope nope nope nope because he's mad at her because just showed up and he is nowhere to be mad
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're literally married, my friend.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: You literally have a wife.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Can I tell you, I actually think that just part of it doesn't drive Rory as much as it drives Dean.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's so true.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's really just shows up to push Dean over the edge.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it's doing less for Rory because she's like, um, no.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, thank you.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for asking.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: But not today, my friend.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: I actually think it's serving more for Dean's storyline.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Because when they do have that moment in the Dragonfly, where they almost kiss and Tom will just walks in on them.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Tying!
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: How'd you just turn your head?
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: How'd you just look up from your clipboard?
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna stop all of that.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: You could have pulled right side and been like, hey, hey, you were not building a solid foundation here.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, let him wreck his own building.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to be a part of it.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: I can't.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: But that whole conversation hinges on Dean being angry with her.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: That just showed up.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, Dean did find some things along for both of them in separate ways.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I think Dean more because he was so angry with her.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: But if Jess hadn't shown up, he never would've had that like need to like back off.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: He would've been full, full force.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just think it pushed it harder.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because before Jess comes in, something could have happened between worrying.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: It could have happened right then, and they didn't actually.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she literally had an empty dorm room.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: And no one would've walked in on them.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, McKenna, you have, McKenna, you've opened a kettle for just way too many doors here.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Don't number one, the whole conversation is so late.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: We're seven, seven doors down.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, excellent voicemail.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad we went back into the archives.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not chatting about this one.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: But we're not done yet because there is a lot more to cover.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: So moving through the narrative chronologically, our bestie Hannah called in about the same
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: to ask a question that I think we discussed when we talked about this, but I want to kind of jog our memories and have a little conversation about it.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: So let's hear from our bestie Hannah.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_03]: Hi guys, my name is Hannah.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_03]: I am sitting here in my Dean's Subcheque lecture, and I just watched Greencoats and Rescues and the thought occurred to me, why did Laura and I not invite Dean and Lindsay to the in-opening?
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: Like Dean had been there at home working on the in, she knew him,
- 26:07[SPEAKER_03]: I often think it would have made the whole cheating storyline juice here because like imagine Lindsey's like sitting in this room by herself she's going to know that Gain wasn't working late because she's at the end.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_03]: In the fight that they would have had resulting from that would have been so much better than the fight that they had over her entering his cell phone.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_03]: Anyways, I just thought, why didn't Laura lie and bite them?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like she had some room nine key to some guy named Freddie that we don't know, and then room eight to these two longer hair guys that I've never seen in my life, it just would have been so much more interesting, I think.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my goodness, Hannah.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're so right.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Who's Freddie?
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Who are these two long hair guys I've never seen in my life?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Why not Dean and Lindsay?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's funny because I, I thought we talked about this and he was like a brief kind of off-hand comment.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it was during Gilmore revisited.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it was in the comments of our Instagram posts and people were like, why weren't Dean and Lindsay invited to the actual opening?
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, what I, I think that the obvious answer is,
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: they couldn't be invited because if they were invited, then boy would have known that things were better than they actually then Dean was actually selling them to her.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: I actually think that that would have been really interesting though, is like it doesn't mean that things are okay.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because who did they also invite because things were not okay?
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: was the Gilmore's going to the in opening or the test run does not mean that things are going well in your relationship.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, but he, as we talked about in the Rinkot's and recipes seem right down, she is like, he's told me it was over and her interpretation of that was were done.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's over with Lindsay.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: If it was really over with Lindsay, they're not going to be at a
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: her impression was like, they're getting, I mean, this is what Lorely says her.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're getting divorced.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, called a lawyer.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're, you know, divided them on the front, right?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: Seasoned.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's taken off the ring.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: He took off the ring.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would have, it definitely, to Hannah's point would have made it juicier.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think that it would have been a lot more like one tree hill gossip girl of them to have done that.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think that like it could have served like a purpose of like not everyone in the in at the test run is having a good run of their relationship.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think it could have been an opportunity for maybe worry to see a fight between them and for dean to be like,
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is for show.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: We're not really together.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: We weren't ready to tell people.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there is a way for Dean to explain it away.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been harder to believe, but I think that that would have given an opportunity for Rory to say
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: see some of what he was saying to like make it seem like there was evidence to it.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: I've always appreciated that there wasn't any that it was just Dean talking out of his ass here too.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think the pain of Dean coming home in season five episode one and Lindsay is sitting there at home waiting for him is just like.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Crushing and like the idea though of seeing that scene of Lindsay thinking that they're having like an evening away That she's at the end his phone rings and she's sitting in the business of Boris mom like that that that feel that's so drama
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love it, like I think it's like that's so fun, that's so interesting.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many ways you could explain it into the storyline.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: I like that they weren't there because that is the last England's he deserves.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want that for them or them being her.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't want Rory to feel like justified at all.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, seeing that they're not doing well.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: Seeing that they're fighting.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is like all for show.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: I like that it was just a kind of lying about it.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it's still drama.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: It feels less sinister like if he's there with his wife and then like lying to Rory like in front of his wife being like this is all for show.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're not actually taken like are like Tom seeing them them almost kissing the evil Lindsay's there.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: It feels not that any of it is okay, but it just feels like Dean was an unreliable narrator Rory bought it and therefore she made a mistake and I think that when Lindsay answers the phone Rory washes over Rory that it's like I I fucked up
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think the actual drama, like the worst part of the drama, would have come from the lower ally of it.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like when the lie comes in, and she's like, his wife is at the end.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: In their room.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: That we booked for them.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it just changes the whole context because Laura likes saying to her, like, so he said it's over.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: They have a lawyer because she doesn't know the last thing she saw is that they did get into a huge fight at the end.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: So she's like, so tell me more about this.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's getting divorce.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: It would make it so much messier.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: It would be more, but messier.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: And like, and malicious is the wrong word, but I feel like Dean is kind of like just doing whatever he wants.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I think to bring Lindsay into it by being at the end.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: Makes it a lot like malicious is the wrong word.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to think of like the word.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's already bad.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes it worse.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: If it feels like intentionally mean.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Which like unintentionally being mean to your wife be a cheating on her is already intentional.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, but I thought it was an interesting question to pose.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I would do that.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm interested in the opening.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think to answer the question.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because he was working.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it gets because he was with Tom.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Tom, yeah, he shows up in his and his suit.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he stayed, though.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: See, I do feel like it would be so lore-like to be like, oh, the newlywed couple, let's let them, like, let's have our young couple.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Michelle would want to have like, Lindsey's feedback, like, he was obsessed with it.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: He was obsessed with it.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like there's a world in which it would make sense.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just think it would make things worse.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: But I love that for you, Hannah.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love that you love the drama.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Love that.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: I love that you were watching this and you were like, hmm, how could I make this more dramatic?
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, it's true.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's so awesome.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: Our last voicemail is Rumor Bestie Emma, and it is also from February of 2025, so it's from the archives, and it's stems from raincoat and recipes, but it is about rain Dean's relationship as a whole and curious to hear your thoughts on this.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: So let's hear from our Bestie Emma.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: Good afternoon, ladies.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: My name is Emma.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_04]: One of your best teas has been listening since pretty much the beginning.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I've never called in before, but I'm on episode 20 through a season for raincoat and recipes and Laura Lyon, Rory, just gotten her side about Rory sleeping with Dean.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: And one of my biggest pet teas of this show is how every time somebody brings up Rory and Dean, they always say Rory dumped these.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: which is in the case and it's never been the case.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: Rory and D.A.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: break up three times throughout the episode and he is always the one to do it.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: Now her actions may lead to the breakup or his own insecurity leads to the breakup.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: two of the times, but Rory is never the one to end things with Dean, and I think it's really I'm fair and also sloppy writing that they always say, Rory, you broke up with Dean.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: He got to move on, he got a new person, you chose Jess, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: What in reality, Jess dumped her in the middle of the dance floor at the...
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: Damned Marathon for the real big breakup.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: He's the one who dumped her in the car and he's the one who said, I don't belong here anymore in less in the season five.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: So this is one of my Gilmore girl pet peas.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's not talked about enough, I think.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: And that's all I have to say.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: Have a great day.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: God, am I love a passion?
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: The minute her voice came on the voice when I was like, Emma's girl.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Emma's got something to say.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Actually she's done.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's all she had to say.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: You have a great day to Emma.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm obsessed.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is fantastic.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: You're so right.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: 100% and it wasn't until she brought that up that I was like, they do say that on the show.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: Wait a minute.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: Wait a minute.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: They say that on the show all the time.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like, well, Rory, you dumped Dean.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: You broke up with Dean.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, she didn't.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: But to be fair to Emma's point, like, Rory's actions, specifically when it comes to just her feelings for Jess.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: Dean knowing that like she's never going to pull the trigger on this and he's just like I can't handle this anymore I'm not her boyfriend anymore because like it's fucking obvious not her boys anymore It is really he he's the one who pulls the trigger every single time
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: And is it a little cowardly of worry not to be the one?
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's especially in the dance marathon instance, yes, because in the car, that was Odeen.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: In the party's over when he's standing out the house, outside the house and says, I don't belong here.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's Odeen.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: And like insecurities aside, like that, that was Odeen.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: This dance marathon one was worry not breaking up when she should have.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it was, it was Dean.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: When do you think she should have broken up with Dean the second time?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: After the car, the dress of it all, if you will.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: I actually think that she should have either broken up with him before she went to DC or when she got back.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as she kissed another boy, it should have been this is so this so bad.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know that they're in high school and like you should always be honest if you're kissing other men in your in relation to part of me is like if you know that you're not going to be with this other person and you don't have feelings for them.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying B17 keep it from them, but it's like, what is it going to do to the relationship?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying lie to your significant other.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is more than the context of Jess and Marie Dean.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Dean would freak the fuck out.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: Marie knows she wants to be a dean, be with Dean, and just be with Dean, and stop making
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like when we get back from season two, the break, the summer, and they're at the end of summer madness festival, and we see Shane or Cotton Candy Princess.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's quite hard to stick to your guns, you know, and be like, okay, well, I can't have that.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess I'll have the os, even though I want that, even though I'm pining for that, even though I would like two days shipping on that, you know, this is what I have.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so I guess I will make do with it until
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I do think it's a very 17-year-old girl emotional way of thinking.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it should have been said just was drenched by those sprinklers.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: She should have said, boy friend, who I'm going to page and bring up with them right now.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm gonna pay you to him.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm very curious what you guys, the bestiest thing.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like at what point should she have broken up with Dean.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm on your situation.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I actually feel like part of me is like, okay, sloppy writing, they didn't get it right.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: But the other part of me feels like Laura Lye thinks that Lori should have broken up with Dean sooner and that it was a little bit Lori's fault for being someone
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he dined the breaking up, but Gory was in a relationship 14 minutes after Jess Shane, you know what I mean?
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: Not 14 minutes.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: It like less than.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was her boyfriend the very next day.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like in the loralized feelings and retelling of it, she gets to say you broke up with him.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: You chose Jess.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: Even though technically,
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think if Laura had been there, if she had seen the Ellen that went down, that had gone down, she might have been like, okay, he did break up with you.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that she rewrites the narrative, just a touch because of the circumstances of it.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Though is Emma Wright, Emma is 1000 percent right, and then she never loses.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she said that's all she had to say, but like, Emma, go back in, love to.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: I love feeling like the girlies, like this is the hot line, like you're in the middle of rewatching Gilmore girls.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, I need to tell someone this.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: You need to tell us.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: You need to call us and tell us like you have to tell us right now.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: Please use our voice mode for that more often because that chef's case.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you have any thoughts that you're thinking while you're rewatching Gilmore girls, call us beef us if you want to reach us.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: with the passion of Emma, with the passion of Emma, the back of you.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Emma's kind of the new standard.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Emma's the new bar.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: She, that is the bar we are looking for in our past meals.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: I really appreciate it.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I loved talking a little bit more about ring codes and recipes today.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: The more I talk about it, I mean, not that I didn't have an appreciation for the episode prior to that.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: But between the scene analysis, this episode today and just in general, like,
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: watching the show over and over again together.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: I just have developed such a love for this episode.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's so good.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: It is quite possibly like a long side.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: It can't get started and partings like the strongest.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: And now the other ones.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what?
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: not to mention love days he's in troublemakers uh but we got to talk about those restraints but oh yeah um no it's like it's like it's a house had a home that that Amy Sherman Palette you know she knows how to write a finale I know she knows how to leave us in a spot and this is one of the strongest
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which I think they were about to watch the measles season two finale.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: We are.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I can't wait or was a voicemail that I almost played today, but I wanted to keep it on theme.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: I like I like a theme.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's about Gigi see episodes and it's about measles.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the measle Gilmore girl crossover comparison.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like,
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: do I want to talk about this now?
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: I almost kind of want to wait a little bit and then talk about it because we're of course as soon as the series is done and like you and I've watched through everything next spring.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be a lot of comparisons of the Gilmore Girls characters and the Mazeal characters and I think we could do it now.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're deep enough into the series that I think that we could see it.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: But there's something different about having the whole picture.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: I also haven't even met any of like the Gilmore side characters, you know?
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: Fair.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like side characters meaning like, well, Bootsie aside, our King Jackie.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: I just more so mean like like main Gilmore players being side characters in May's all.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: I have a really, because like francy's shown up, Bootsie's been there, but we haven't seen any of like the main players like Kelly or yeah, Kelly will be on the show.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: Myolo will be on the show, but we have a bit chasing her.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: Jason, Max, Medina.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why I called them by their real names and then Chris, I'm in God Jesus.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yay.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and oh, I forgot Scott Cohen's on their seat.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I want to meet some of the main players who are side characters and also, but always Stan, our King Bootsie, King Castle.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I love how much he's in the show.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's so good.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: I like when he appeared in the pilot, I was like, oh, this is going to be like a couple of one off.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_01]: That means an almost every episode.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one of my favorites.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorites for sure.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: We're having such a blast.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: And we're nearing the end of season two is Haley mentioned.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to do a little season two reflection.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then we do like a go more to consider style episode at the end of every season as well.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: We've only done it for season one.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: So again it once but it's called a smidge more to say which yeah, which I love a smidge one of our best days gave us that Yeah, it's so good, but for real this time next week's episode we will be sitting down with Gilmore Girls writer John Stevens I am so excited to talk to him.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna have more to say on that in the next episode
