- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today I'm sharing one of my favorite tricks with you about
- 0:33keeping yourself on track, and that is talking to yourself.
- 0:37Now I know there's going to be people out there that are
- 0:39already laughing and saying, hey wait a minute, talking to
- 0:42yourself, doesn't that mean you're insane?
- 0:44I'm not talking about the typical walking around your
- 0:46house talking to yourself. What I'm talking about is making
- 0:49little recordings to yourself when you're in a great state
- 0:53that you can play back to yourself when you are not in a
- 0:56great state. So let's say that we take
- 1:00morning, for example. Morning is a really incredibly
- 1:04important time in setting the tone for your day because if
- 1:07your morning is messed up, then everything else tends to be
- 1:12going downhill from there because we stay in that state
- 1:15that we put ourselves in. So if we have an intense morning
- 1:19and that morning is just, you know, you wake up, there's a
- 1:23problem right away, you get an e-mail, that's a problem, you
- 1:26have issues right away. That will be one of those times
- 1:29where you instantaneously take that energy with yourself into
- 1:34the next act, whether it's getting the kids up, whether
- 1:36it's doing something else instantaneously you have that
- 1:40going with you. And oftentimes it's really,
- 1:44really hard to shift it because you're, you're stuck
- 1:48essentially, you're stuck in that moment.
- 1:50You're like frozen, if you will, emotionally because you're not
- 1:56paying attention. That's the very first thing when
- 1:58you wake up. Typically we're just in go mode
- 2:01and we're saying what have I got to get done today?
- 2:03And we've some of us make our to do lists in the morning.
- 2:06Some of us make our to do lists in the after, you know,
- 2:10afternoon, late in the day before.
- 2:13So we have it when we wake up, but most of us tend to wake up
- 2:17and we're only thinking about what we have to do.
- 2:19We're not thinking about any of the other stuff to take care of
- 2:22ourselves. We're just focused on this
- 2:24little tiny piece of, you know, got to get going, got to get
- 2:28going. I got a lot to do today.
- 2:29Can't tell you how many times I myself will say, OK, I got a lot
- 2:32to do today. But the problem is if I'm only
- 2:36focused on what I have to do, I'm not focused on who I'm
- 2:40being. So having these little
- 2:42recordings to myself really help me.
- 2:46So if I have, if you, if you have any sort of phone that's
- 2:52not from, you know, 18 O2, you can open it up and in your
- 2:56utilities, you have a voice text app.
- 3:01And this is exactly how I record the podcast.
- 3:05Believe it or not, I use my voice text so much.
- 3:08I found that it was super easy just to use it for the podcast
- 3:11too. So I come, I have a whole series
- 3:16of little ones that stay in my phone that are just messages to
- 3:20myself that I use. So if I'm off, if I'm off track,
- 3:25if I'm off base, if I'm not tracking in a way that I want
- 3:29to, if my energy is going downhill, if I'm feeling
- 3:32frustrated, if I'm in between sessions, if, if people coach
- 3:36with me, they know I'm, I keep my sessions really tight because
- 3:40I like to stay in flow and in mode.
- 3:43I don't, I don't like to take breaks actually, because it
- 3:45throws me off and then I can't, you know, I'm so in the moment,
- 3:48I can't get back into flow quickly.
- 3:51So I like to keep it pretty tight.
- 3:54But if I've got a couple seconds in between or if I've had a
- 3:56session where it's been very emotional with a client, I have
- 3:59a message in my voice memos where I can listen to myself,
- 4:04talk to myself and give myself a pep talk, if you will, a
- 4:09feedback, something to focus on instead of what I have been
- 4:12focusing on. And I can't begin to tell you
- 4:15the magic it creates because it shifts you right away.
- 4:18Another piece of the puzzle is that your brain is wired to
- 4:22believe your voice to be true. So when you're talking to
- 4:25yourself, whether it's good or bad, whether it's positive or
- 4:29negative, your brain believes you.
- 4:31So when you say, oh God, I'm so frustrated, I'm so stupid.
- 4:34Even if you just say this in your head, your brain believes
- 4:36that to be true. That's why it's so hard to shift
- 4:39out of things. And the beautiful thing is it
- 4:44also believes it in reverse. So if you're able to record
- 4:47messages to yourself when you are feeling good and you know
- 4:53you're in a great state and you talk to yourself, then all of a
- 4:56sudden when you listen to that message and it changes
- 4:59everything. So I'll give you an example.
- 5:01If you're a parent and you're, you get frustrated with your
- 5:04kids and you know that you have certain hot buttons issues like
- 5:09homework, that's always an something in our house that
- 5:14triggers things. You can have a little message
- 5:16that you record to yourself and you can talk about that and say
- 5:19like, let's say your name is Sally.
- 5:21You can say, hey, Sally, listen, homework is going to start in
- 5:25about 30 minutes. You know that this is going to
- 5:28be awesome if you stay calm and focused.
- 5:31So I want you to go in there. I want you to be super centered.
- 5:34I want you to be calm. I want you to have the snacks
- 5:37ready, pencils sharpened, sit down, put on good music for the
- 5:40kids to listen to and get everything in the way that they,
- 5:43you know they can thrive and you can thrive.
- 5:46And remember, take the High Road, stay calm, no yelling.
- 5:50Give yourself this little this little thing and then play it
- 5:54beforehand when you're talking to yourself, you actually
- 5:57listen. I have them for all different
- 5:58things in my phone. I have them for, like I said, in
- 6:00between sessions. I have them for things.
- 6:02If I'm irritated with my husband, I can go and listen to
- 6:05one that I have talking to me about all the things I love
- 6:08about him. And instantaneously it, it
- 6:11reminds me and puts me in a state of letting go of whatever
- 6:15stupid thing happened that we might be arguing about.
- 6:18And then I can easily go right back to feeling great.
- 6:22So today I would like you to make some recordings for
- 6:26yourself that you can listen to. And that morning recording is
- 6:30probably the most important of all of them.
- 6:32So when you get up, you can talk to yourself and say, I'm out
- 6:36here starting my day strong and I'm focused because I listened
- 6:41to my morning recording that told me when I wake up, Hey Kim,
- 6:45you just got out of bed. It's time to get into that right
- 6:47state of mind. Remember, you're focused on
- 6:49effortless abundance. You're focused on being the best
- 6:52person you can be in kindness, happiness, love and joy.
- 6:56That's one of mine, by the way, in case you're interested.
- 6:58So I can listen to that and I can listen to it over and over
- 7:02and over again if I need to. You can make them as short as
- 7:05you want and as long as you want.
- 7:06Just make them. Make them go do it today.
- 7:09Make yourself one. Just try one and see how it
- 7:11works. All right, guys, I hope you have
- 7:12a great day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 7:14Bye.
