- 1:38to be here Heather, thank you so much for joining us and discussing your
- 1:42fascinating new book Star Codes Navigate your Chart with choice based astrology, as well
- 1:49as the Star Codes astro Oracle decks. Before we discuss these, your life
- 1:53path is fascinating, please share with our listeners your early life, including the
- 1:59out of body experiences that opened your awareness and other influences. Gladly, and
- 2:06I want to point out that most everybody's life is fascinating if you can help
- 2:10them sort out what were the turning points in their life. So when I
- 2:15condense my turning points and the moments of revelation, it looks pretty cool.
- 2:20And my life has been on an interesting journey. It's not been that you
- 2:24know, wildly out there in the world, but it's been a really interesting
- 2:28inner journey. And so I just say that before I begin that I want
- 2:32to honor everybody's path. Now, I started out my parents were older.
- 2:38My father was an abstract mathematician. He was a topologist Walter Gottstak, and
- 2:43my mother was a psychiatric nurse. If you put them in a blender,
- 2:46you get an astrologer. As far as I'm concerned, that sense of seeing
- 2:50pattern in the universe. Although I am numerically somewhat dyslexic. You don't want
- 2:54to put me on a cash register or have me balance a bank book.
- 2:58But I can read numbers and circle and I see patterns in a circle very
- 3:01well, so that minor dyslexia has actually been a gift as an astrologer.
- 3:07So my mother was always talking about what was going on in behind people's psyche.
- 3:12It could be a little bit of a pain as a kid when I'm
- 3:15saying, hey, she hit me today in school, and she would sit
- 3:17me down and go, well, that's because her family's doing this, and
- 3:21then going through that, you have to feel for her. I wish she
- 3:23had said stop her and then let's understand her story. But I got to
- 3:29learn patterns in families very early on, to hear the stories and to look
- 3:35for with compassion into people's lives. So I really appreciate that part of the
- 3:38early training from them. And I was born allergic to my own antibodies,
- 3:45and that means that if I started to get a cold, I would come
- 3:50down with croup and really severe croup. The first few years. When I
- 3:55was about five, they started allergy shots, which began to help but it
- 4:01you know that I have been told that I'm not technically allergic to my own
- 4:05end of bodies, but that was a description given to me as a kid
- 4:09for my autoimmune system. But my immune system would either not react or overreact.
- 4:15But I remember them carrying me. I remember seeing watching my father carrying
- 4:21me over his shoulder into the bathroom where they would turn on the steam,
- 4:26turn me upside down, whack my back and get me breathing again. But
- 4:30I'm watching it from a point of view of about twenty feet over our stairs,
- 4:34and that process, and it happened a couple of times, and all
- 4:39of a sudden, I'd wake up, you know, being thwacked in a
- 4:42steamy room upside down and got my breath back. But that place of I
- 4:46became very aware that we are not just our bodies. And I was really
- 4:50surprised when other people thought we were. And but I couldn't, you know,
- 4:56really share that. But I have a very distinct memory of it,
- 5:00and it was even more real in some ways than my waking life. So
- 5:04that was strong. I had sort of a leaky psyche. I think my
- 5:09mother did also. I think I got it from her side of the family.
- 5:12Although I don't think she was all that aware of it. Her mother
- 5:15died in the flu epidemic of the nineteen eighteen flu epidemic at the very end
- 5:23of that, and she was born premature as her mother was dying, and
- 5:28I think to survive that. I think her mother was with us. Her
- 5:32mother's spirit was with us all her life, because I felt her mother's spirit
- 5:35in the room when she died, and she had seen her mother a few
- 5:40times during the process. So I think that leaky psychic is something that runs
- 5:45in that we just kind of pick up things, and it probably came from
- 5:48my great grandmother. But in any case, learning to hold boundaries is one
- 5:53of the things that I find that most people need when I'm teaching intuition development.
- 6:00Most people don't need to get their started, They need to learn to
- 6:03interpret their symbols and to know how to close it down and protect themselves,
- 6:10you know, psychic hygiene one oh one in order to feel comfortable opening it
- 6:14up. You know, I watched that process in those early years, and
- 6:19in your first year of high school you had a synchronistic introduction to astrology.
- 6:25Please tell us about the school's amazing switchboard operators. I will and again,
- 6:30how interesting the universe puts your teachers in your path. I had already when
- 6:34I was eleven, taken you know, they used to be able to make
- 6:39potato stamp stamps out of potato and use those as to make patterns. Well,
- 6:44I had made a calendar of the year with each month with the signs
- 6:48color coded in them, so in a first astrological calendar by sun sign when
- 6:56I was eleven, and I had already started collecting mythologies from around the world
- 7:01and just sort of reading them and you know, collecting those books. So
- 7:05I go to high school and it then back in the day when you had
- 7:10switchboard operators. That's how old I am and how old that school was.
- 7:15And the niece of a Carol Ryder, who was a famous Hollywood astrologer,
- 7:23was the telephone operator there. And I kind of started hanging around her and
- 7:29listening to her, and I noticed that with her books she was a better
- 7:33counselor than our school psychologist. Without her books, she was a nice lady,
- 7:39but she was missing that edge of insightfulness. And so I thought,
- 7:44there's something in those books, in those in those maps that she has that
- 7:47I want to know more. About one day. I was sitting there helping
- 7:50her at the switchboard so she could talk to other people and you know,
- 7:55have a good time. And she was U saw teachers and she had everybody's
- 8:01chart who worked there. She saw an elderly man and a young man who
- 8:05were teaching there, and she said, could you guys be a little careful
- 8:09this weekend? There's some tough aspects and I just just be a little careful,
- 8:13and they all she had, sure, Sure, And one the elderly
- 8:18man was eighty four, which is you know, urinous return, and it
- 8:24was the drama teacher and he died of a heart attack on stage. The
- 8:28other was a young man who fell down some stairs and broke a leg or
- 8:33an arm, I can't remember which limb. And I said, okay,
- 8:37I need to know more. What did you see? Here's some evidence that
- 8:41you're not just imagining. It helped me understand and how else could they have
- 8:45used that besides hurt themselves, because those aspects are not always harmful, but
- 8:52they are sudden changes. How could you use that in a good way?
- 8:56And I started my approach to choice space astrology right there at the get go.
- 9:01She gave me some of the basics of astrological understanding, and she sent
- 9:07me to you know, back in those days, occult bookstores weren't that common.
- 9:11She told me, you know, go to New York, go to
- 9:13this street, go to the second floor. Knock on the door. It
- 9:16won't say occult books on there are just knock on the door, and you've
- 9:20got rooms full of astrology, of all kinds of occult books. So I
- 9:26got my first book there, and I took my ephemeris, which is the
- 9:31a book that says you know where the planets were at any particular day with
- 9:35me when I ran away from home and when I did all kinds of adventures
- 9:39during my adolescence, and I looked up everybody's anybody I met, I said,
- 9:45can I you know when were you born? And let me just write
- 9:48down where your sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, where all
- 9:50the planets were when you were born. And now I can watch you and
- 9:54you can teach me what those mean or what they could meet. And so
- 10:01I started bringing that in. I then worked and the personnel office of you
- 10:07know, a store, and a larger store, and then in a spa
- 10:11later on, and I had everybody's birth information there and so I followed everybody.
- 10:18I used it for counseling or helping mediate, but I mainly got to
- 10:22watch what happened to everybody when certain transits happened, and got to let them
- 10:28tell me again about their what those charts meant. So that was how I
- 10:33started off. And a few years later you were introduced to palmistry by an
- 10:39art history teacher. What was that experience like social murkugee in my That was
- 10:45also back in high school, the third high school I went to. I
- 10:48was not an easy teenager. So the third social Mukerjie was the music history
- 10:54teacher and the music teacher, and he played the tablas, and he was
- 10:58from India. He was hilarious and wonderful, but he also would you know,
- 11:03I saw him teaching the basics of palmistry and I wanted to know more.
- 11:09Again, he said to me about one of my closest friends, keep
- 11:15an eye on her, would you I just just I'm a little worried about
- 11:18her chart keep an eye on her over time, and several years later she
- 11:26was murdered. And I think because she wasn't really playing it safe in her
- 11:30life, and so I think he was right. He was worried, and
- 11:35I could see it in her chart. But with the experience of the palmistry,
- 11:41I saw, you know, he could teach me where the basics where
- 11:45to look for things in the hand. And then when people found out in
- 11:48the high school that I was interested in palmistry, they started giving me a
- 11:52strong palmistry books wherever if they found one at an old bookstore or something.
- 11:56So I started collecting them and I would take home prints using ink and a
- 12:03roller for doing prints, and do palm prints and then watch them. I
- 12:09also got to see them change because adolescents are in such a you know,
- 12:13malleable place that you can see the changes in their hands very quickly. But
- 12:18even in adults, if you take prints of people's hands. Nowadays we can
- 12:24just take photographs on our phone, but take photographs of your the hands and
- 12:28watch them over time when you make a major decision. For instance, if
- 12:33someone started, you know, retired and stop working quite so hard, their
- 12:37lifeline might grow or it might shrink, depending upon how that affected their health.
- 12:41If they started drinking heavily or stopped drinking heavily, you'll see the change
- 12:48and the fine network of lines over their hand so it would show me that
- 12:52we can change our future by changing by making decisions in our present life.
- 13:00I retired March twenty ninth, and my lifeline has extended two and a half
- 13:03inches. I bet, and congratulations, thank you, thank you. A
- 13:11friend's illness brought you to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where you became part
- 13:15of the Santa Fe Professional Astrology Form. Your colleagues described your practice as rounded
- 13:22and pragmatic, which you say in Santa Fe is not an oxymoron. Tell
- 13:26us more about this place. Okay, Back when I was there, Santa
- 13:30Fe was known for its woo woo high woo woo content. And I'll talk
- 13:35about how I got there. But the Santa Fe joke was, you know,
- 13:37why does the Santa Fe across the road, And the answer was because
- 13:41they were channeling the chicken and it was and I saw some really horrible examples
- 13:48of that. But you know, if he was like, oh, I
- 13:50need chocolate, my guides tell me I must have chocolate, and go like,
- 13:52no, honey, it's not your guys. You just want chocolate.
- 13:56It's okay, you can just ask for chocolate. But I would see when
- 13:58I got there, I was driving across country. My kids had come to
- 14:03visit their father who was living outside of Santa Fe, and I my friend
- 14:09was there, so I visited her while I was driving across country and she
- 14:15was sick, so we took her to the hospital and they said she had
- 14:18four months to live. It was progressive inherited bowel cancer. So I figured,
- 14:26if the universe brings your best friend where your children live, and there
- 14:31was far away from where I was living at the time in Rhode Island,
- 14:35that I was being hauled there by spirit, Okay, I'll come. And
- 14:39I agreed to stay there and see my friend through the end and then see
- 14:43how I felt about living around my kids. I got to know Santa Fe,
- 14:48which can be a little touristy if you come in from the outside,
- 14:52from the hospice team, out from real healers that were volunteering with hospice,
- 14:56and I got to see, you know, got to know them. I
- 15:01would spend time in the library. In the library, if you look up,
- 15:05they have pieces of amethyst hanging in the lights, not so that you
- 15:09can see them easily, but to give amethyst energy to the library. That's
- 15:15the kind of place it was. There are more healers than you could shake
- 15:18a stick at, and so many astrologers that have felt like bringing coals to
- 15:22Newcastle. But at the first big astrological forum I went to where there was
- 15:26a panel of astrologers talking and several hundred people in the audience I who were
- 15:33astrologically savvy and asking good questions. I answered something from the floor and they
- 15:39said, come on up here, and I came up and sat with them
- 15:41and we started, you know, we answered more questions and I got to
- 15:46be close friends with them, and I was invited to do talks with them,
- 15:50and it would just hit the ground running. At the time, the
- 15:54local newspaper asked the whole forum who would like to write a regular astrological column
- 15:58for one other astrologer, and I volunteered to do this. The other astrologer
- 16:04was the one who came up with the name. Edith Hathaway, who is
- 16:07a Vedic astrologer, came up with the name star Codes and we wrote it
- 16:12together for a while. Then she decides she didn't really want to write it.
- 16:15I asked her could I keep the name? And I've run with it
- 16:18ever since. She went on to do something else and for over thirty years.
- 16:25I've been writing a column every week looking at the astrological week of the
- 16:30energy of the week ahead, and then watching what happens. So I can't
- 16:34get too specific in the you know, one thousand plus words that I have
- 16:38to work with, but I can talk about the energy patterns that we see
- 16:44manifest. And I've done this. I do a year ahead for wee moon
- 16:48calendar, and I've been writing for the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper and met
- 16:55several websites who published the long form of the column for over thirty years now,
- 17:00and it has been a hell of a discipline. No matter what's going
- 17:06on, who's dying, what's happening. I have gotten that thing out COVID.
- 17:11I got it out and it has been an incredible learning experience to see
- 17:17those articles, to see to write those articles and then see what actually happens,
- 17:22go and correct my understanding. What else did you study in Santa Fe,
- 17:26which you describe as your heart home. Yeah, it's still always that
- 17:30landscape will always be in you. I learned to really in a way that
- 17:37it was hard to do back East, to really draw energy from the land
- 17:41and let the land teach you and feel the divine in every bee and every
- 17:52flower, in every tree, in every rock, and so that really extended
- 17:57this. I also worked with a shamanic study group. There were four of
- 18:03us, all in the various forms of healing fields, I think, three
- 18:07therapists and me and it. We would every other week meet and go on
- 18:14a shamanic journey with the drumming. One of us would drum while the other
- 18:18experienced, share the stories that share what we had seen. Notice what we
- 18:23all had in common and what we didn't. We're using felicitous goodman work.
- 18:29And she had studied how people around the world their shamans, their drawings,
- 18:37and their sculpture of shamans seem to be in certain positions, and that when
- 18:41she put people in those positions to do shamanic work without telling them what they
- 18:45were, they often had common elements to their journey. So we noticed that
- 18:52what we kind of tracked, what our experiences were that shared in the room,
- 18:57what was individual to our life, and what was common to this particular
- 19:03position. And then we'd get back together in a few weeks and say,
- 19:07how did that resonate in you? What change in your life over those two
- 19:11weeks? So we did this version for about four or five years. That
- 19:15was powerful understanding of the kind of shamanic journey work can trance state. I
- 19:22studied hypnotherapy, though I never got certified, but it taught me a lot
- 19:25about how to do ritual, how to do ceremony, how to do even
- 19:30a worship service. When I got to New York and went into the Interface
- 19:33Seminary, that how important it is to involve all of our senses when we
- 19:40want to bring the psyche fully present to this moment and be here and be
- 19:45in the here, in all the dimensions here. So that was really powerful
- 19:51learning. We share being graduates of the New Seminary and ordained as interfaith ministers
- 19:56through the Associated Temple, through our Order nations, we came to serve those
- 20:02traumatized by the events of nine eleven. What was your experience like, Well,
- 20:07you know, I got to New York. My mate we got married
- 20:11in this is how I got to New York is an interesting story too.
- 20:15I heard I kept having dreams in Santa Fe that I would every now and
- 20:22then the dreams would be different, but the phone would ring in the dream
- 20:25and I'd answer it, and I would hear in a deep voice, female
- 20:29voice, I am sending you back to the front lines, and I go,
- 20:33what does that mean? You know, it's like, is it time
- 20:37to leave my wonderful Santa Fe in fairy tale land almost where I've learned so
- 20:41much. And we got married in May of two thousand and one, and
- 20:51on our honeymoon, Wren was offered a job outside of New York City.
- 20:56I go, front lines. Wow, that's pretty heavy, but okay,
- 21:02you know, that's what spirit's been telling me. We moved to New York
- 21:06in August of two thousand and one, and we you know, we were
- 21:11there. I Ben was there. I was back in Santa Fe closing up
- 21:15shop when the nine to eleven happened and we heard the you know, you
- 21:22remember you could smell burning bodies for a good six months. It the power
- 21:30of a whole countryside going through that grief and that shock together was so intense,
- 21:38and it was very hard to break into New York City in the middle
- 21:42of that. But we were all dealing with what's important in the face of
- 21:47life and death. And I had one client that I had had for years
- 21:52as an astrologer back in Santa Fe who lived in New York and was a
- 21:56paramedic and she as a ParaMed They co worked with dogs, and she also
- 22:02spoke French. Father was French, and she was down at ground zero.
- 22:07She was one of the you know down there right away. She was in
- 22:11New York when it happened, so she went straight down and she was one
- 22:15of the group that stabilized, one of the very few people they got out
- 22:18of the rubble alive. She also translated for the French search and rescue team
- 22:25that brought their dogs over and was helping search. So for three months,
- 22:30she was down there every day working in the trenches, and I couldn't do
- 22:34anything else. I didn't know New York well enough to help down there,
- 22:37but I could let her tell me her stories every night because she needed to
- 22:41download, like finding body parts or dealing with people in grief, and so
- 22:48I would just listen to her stories and kind of listen for the universe and
- 22:52listen for the soul. One of my close friends in Santa Fe was followed
- 23:00the Sufi path and she was the emergency counselor on when we brought my friend
- 23:04in and they told her that she had cancer and she was going to be
- 23:07dead. In four months and I said, how do you do this day
- 23:12after day? You're the emergency room counselor what do you do? And she
- 23:17goes, well, in my training, I imagine that I am listening for
- 23:19God. I it's not me. I am imagining a giant heart and my
- 23:23arms are wings, and the wings of God are holding this person and I
- 23:27am just listening. It's going straight through me to spirit. That was a
- 23:33very powerful teaching to me about the role of spiritual counseling. Then I was,
- 23:40you know, I was kind of saying, here I am in New
- 23:41York, Well, like, how do I get more tools to help my
- 23:44people. I've got this great map, but how do I actually connect with
- 23:48people and give them something? And I'd like to do more? And that's
- 23:52when I found, you know, went to the interfaith seminary. I went
- 23:56to an open house and Rabbi Roger, who was one of the two people
- 24:02you know, Reverend deb and Rabbi Roger ran the school then. And Rabbi
- 24:06was talking about being down in the pit uh after nine to eleven with chaplain
- 24:11on his his helmet, and he talked about it and he probably you probably
- 24:17heard this story when you know the everybody was working, and the machinery was
- 24:22there, and there was but there were a lot of construction people down there
- 24:26that had no training and how to handle trauma. You know, the first
- 24:30responders do have some basics. Uh. But so the the you know noon
- 24:34bell, you know, the break bell rang and he saw someone get out
- 24:41of a crane and just start crying. So he walked over and handed the
- 24:45person kleenex. And the guy saw him, saw the chaplain and start talking
- 24:52and telling him all about it. And he just kept handing him kleenex,
- 24:55Niah nodding and listening and listening and listening, and and then the bell rang
- 25:00and the guy said, I got to get back, and they said okay,
- 25:03and and Rabbi just said bless you and went on and he saw him.
- 25:10He saw that man two weeks later in the church they were using as
- 25:14the kind of central area, and the guy said, Rabbi, I want
- 25:18to thank you. What you said make all the difference. But he hadn't
- 25:22said anything, but he had listened with that open heart. That's right.
- 25:27What a wonderful sharing. Thank you, Thank you so much. My guest

- 27:21my first promised friend. I find that there are some wonderful books out there
- 27:26if you really are ready for advanced palmistry. But I had looked read all
- 27:30of them, and I boiled it down to some basic patterns that you can
- 27:34spot pretty easily and are the underpinnings. You can get those underpinnings, then
- 27:40the details can be built up later. You know what's exactly this this whurral
- 27:45versus that world all the some specific details, but most of the people.
- 27:49At the time, I was working part time as the personnel manager for ten
- 27:55thousand Waves, which is a spa in Santa Fe that had one hundred and
- 27:59twenty massage therapist working there twenty on at any one time. And they always
- 28:04look at hands, They're always shaking hands. They're always looking at hands,
- 28:07and they would ask me questions about it. They didn't want details, but
- 28:11they wanted, like, you know what I see? This? What am
- 28:14I seeing? And I noticed that it's something that I used a lot more
- 28:18informally. I read tarot cards. I work with other divination skills. I'm,
- 28:22you know, an astrologer, but you don't have that when you say
- 28:27hello to someone or shake their hands or talk to them or see them waving
- 28:32in public, which you do with a lot of public figures. And I
- 28:34found that palmistry was something that I used a lot, just the basics of
- 28:38it, not going into the details of their history or the future, but
- 28:41to see how to balance it. That's why I call it every day palmistry.
- 28:47It is scient a way that you can see what is the strong strong
- 28:52suit for the person, what's their weakness, and they might want to develop
- 28:56by exercise in life and living so they can round themselves out. I think
- 29:00of life, we all kind of long to be a mandola. We all
- 29:04long to be whole and full, and if we're missing something in our chart
- 29:08or in our hand, we tend to bring it in through experience or the
- 29:12people around us. So or by experiences that express that develop that side of
- 29:18us. So I wanted to look at palmistry as a way of empowering most
- 29:23people to use it not to predict somebody's future, but to understand them with
- 29:29an open heart. So it's designed for people who shake hands, see hands,
- 29:33look at hands. And if you want to learn more advanced palmistry,
- 29:37it's a great beginning because it gives you that gets you a good, strong
- 29:41foundation in the basics moon wisdom. So moon wisdom is talking about people's moon
- 29:49signs. Now, most people know something about their sun's sign and they know
- 29:53like my son is in and that changes once a month. The moon changes
- 29:57sign every two days, two and a half days. And it tells you
- 30:02about someone's inner emotional prime directive, how they operate, what helps them feel
- 30:07at home, and it can feel very different. There's you know, one
- 30:11hundred and forty four accommodations of those two. And if you can get someone's
- 30:15moon sign and understand them, you know how to work with them. You
- 30:19know how to help them feel at home, you know how their emotional patterns
- 30:26might be different than your own. And if you know what sign the moon
- 30:30is in every day and that's easy to find online. You can find it
- 30:33anywhere if you like. What do you do? There's a lot of astrological
- 30:37calendars. Wee Moon Calendar is one of them, but there are many.
- 30:41You can see what's the emotional milieu that you're walking through. I used to
- 30:45notice when I was living in New York that I could tell the moon sign
- 30:51by how people were dressed on the subway. You know, moon goes into
- 30:53Scorpio, you see people looking a little more defensive, that got their hobnailed
- 30:57boots on. They're dressing a little bit more black, they're kind of looking
- 31:00at it edgier. That doesn't mean they're feeling any less deeply. As a
- 31:03matter of fact, they're just armoring up because they're feeling more or the moon
- 31:07goes into Aquarius and people's strangers start walking up and talking to you. That
- 31:11you can find that it gives you a little sense of the vibe of the
- 31:15day. So Moon Wisdom talks about your moon sign, the aspects to your
- 31:21moon, the phase of your moon, and how that can help you understand
- 31:25yourself and the people that you love and work with. It also can tell
- 31:30you how to work with them. What's the moon sign of the day and
- 31:33the aspects to the moon. Well, that can help you navigate your day
- 31:38more comfortably. Your first oracle deck in the series is entitled star Code's Astro
- 31:45Oracle of fifty six card deck and guidebook. How many these be used?
- 31:51Anyway you want? You know if you've worked with oracle decks, they're different
- 31:53from tarot decks and that they're not an organized system. So much pull a
- 32:00card and see what it feels like, or ask a few questions and see
- 32:05where you go with those. What I did with the Astro Oracle deck is
- 32:09you know, I work with astrology. I'm work with I have you know,
- 32:13a collection of tarot decks too, But and I have loved if you've
- 32:17seen them animal medicine cards, that are you pick up an animal and like,
- 32:22how do I handle this situation like a hummingbird? How would I do
- 32:27it like a hummingbird? And you read about the hummingbird's medicine, you take
- 32:30maybe a more gentle approach than you might have in another way. You know,
- 32:36oh, like a wolf, I need to kind of pull back and
- 32:38think about this and take on the medicine of this card. So I liked
- 32:43that idea of how an oracle deck works. It talks to you about the
- 32:46medicine that you need at the moment. It talks to you not so much
- 32:51about what's going to happen, but what are the dynamics of this situation and
- 32:57how might you best handle it? You can pull a few cards go along
- 33:00with that. Congratulations on your just published new book, star Codes. Navigate
- 33:06your chart with choice based Astrology. What inspired that book? Okay, so
- 33:12the book goes along the same pattern as the deck, so that you again.
- 33:17One other piece about the deck was that you could pull a car today
- 33:22and slowly learn all the astrological terms and concepts. So you didn't have to
- 33:27know anything about astrology when you began it, but it began to teach you
- 33:30them because there's such a strong symbol set. And I find that the language
- 33:35of astrology is what makes it hard for people to start it. So I've
- 33:39been working with clients for over forty years, and I find that if people
- 33:45I kept wanting to write a book because I couldn't find quite the beginning astrology
- 33:51through some great beginning astrology books out there, but not ones that I could
- 33:54hand them. My client say, read this. It will invite you in
- 33:58and walk you through your chur and give you a place to go afterwards if
- 34:02you want to study in more in depth. But I really wanted to invite
- 34:07them in not simplistic, but simple and clear and choice centered so they don't
- 34:14feel stuck. I often specialize in what I call bad reading rehab, people
- 34:19who have come to me and been told you know they're going to die,
- 34:22or they're boyfriends of this, or you know, things that are that are
- 34:27limiting in the future, rather than how can you use as time to for
- 34:30your healthiest, best way, What can you make do to make the most
- 34:35of this? Because there is potential in every sign, every symbol, every
- 34:39aspect has a positive side, a practical side, and a challenging side.
- 34:45And how can we use the positive and the practical to redirect the challenging energy.
- 34:52That's what I hope for with the book and with the deck. The
- 34:55natal chart is our birth chart. What are some of the life principles we
- 35:00may learn from it? So when you walk into life when you're born,
- 35:06we take an imprint of the pattern of where the planets were in below the
- 35:10earth and above the earth in the signs, how they're relating to each other
- 35:15and that maps out your you know, you imprint that moment and that maps
- 35:21out I think of that. That's your piano. What the transits are now
- 35:25is what's being played on that piano. So we can talk about how you
- 35:30know how that pattern in it relates. But each of those patterns that you
- 35:34see that you imprint that moment that maybe your soul chose that moment because it
- 35:39fits the patterns that you came here to learn from that you're still working on
- 35:45from other lives or wherever you came from. And it talks about that pattern
- 35:50that you can learn from. Work with your potential, your strengths, not
- 35:54from a way that is easy for other people. It's not about how convenient
- 35:59you are of others, but who, what how you work, and then
- 36:04you can choose to work with that and live its potential as best you can.
- 36:08So it talks about your emotional prime directives, how your mind works,
- 36:13what makes you feel at home, what brings you joy you know, and
- 36:17what are some of the challenging times in your life that you can approach philosophically.
- 36:22How does the natal chart change as we go through life? It doesn't
- 36:28change. What does change is your progressions. So after you're born, you
- 36:34imprint that moment. You may change how you express that chart, but that
- 36:37chart stays the same, but the progressions you Then the planets keep moving after
- 36:44you're born, and as they move, they sketch in the landscape of your
- 36:49life over the next few months, so that throughout your life we find that
- 36:55there is a resonance between the where your first year and your first day,
- 37:02between your tenth year and your tenth day. So the tenth day can give
- 37:07us a map for where what's going on with you, and it doesn't have
- 37:14an infinite way of living out that pattern, but you will tend to live
- 37:17out that pattern. There are times when the progressed moon, which is the
- 37:22fastest moving thing, the moon goes around the zodiac in twenty eight twenty nine
- 37:28days, so it goes around your whole chart in twenty eight or twenty nine
- 37:31years. And watching where your progressed moon, what sign it's in for those
- 37:37two years, what house it's in, whether it's below the chart above the
- 37:43chart can talk about the energy inflow and outflow, the tide in your life.
- 37:49Now, I'm not asking you for a full reading, but I would
- 37:52like to offer my birth signs to you and see if you concur with what
- 37:55I've been told. Okay, my son and Capricorn own in Aquarius and cancer
- 38:02rising. One friend told me that makes me a hot mess. Nah,
- 38:07not at all. So cancer rising the rising sign is that you know,
- 38:12if you could have stood when you're a baby, but you couldn't giuse you're
- 38:15a baby. But if you could have stood and pointed to the eastern horizon,
- 38:17the sign that's there, that's where the sun would be at sunrise,
- 38:22that's your rising sign. That's what's rising as you're born, and that's the
- 38:24interfaith face between you and the world. That and you say you have a
- 38:30cancer rising, the cancer rising, so does Angelina Jolie. The cancer rising
- 38:37will make it look somewhat self protective, that it nurtures that one of your
- 38:42easiest ways. It's your doorway between you and the world, how you see
- 38:45the world and how the world sees you. And in general, a cancer
- 38:51rising can be very open and outgoing when there is a way to care and
- 38:57to show caring and it feels safe. Cancer's the symbol for the cancer is
- 39:01a crab that's soft and squishy on the inside and hard with claws on the
- 39:07outside. Very self protective, but able to go very deep. And it
- 39:10can live on in fresh water and saltwater and on land in the ocean.
- 39:15It's a very versatile sign. It's just very self protective. So if you
- 39:20want, if someone wants to really get to know you, they have to
- 39:23create real safety for you. If but they may see you creating safety for
- 39:29people left and right. Capricorn is one of a powerful sign. The symbol
- 39:34of it is a murgoat, not a goat, not a mermaid, but
- 39:39a murgoat that's got its fishtail and in a mountain goat front. Out here
- 39:47we see mountain goats in Montana, and the mountain goats are brilliant and beautiful
- 39:53going up and down the mountains and silly looking walking on flat terrain. Usually
- 39:59ca corns need a goal. They need like the goal can be let me
- 40:02clean that drawer, or let me finish this book, or let me accomplish
- 40:07this. And if they don't have a goal, they can get depressed,
- 40:10but they feel great going up, you know, let the chunk it down,
- 40:15do one little task before the next one to the next one. I
- 40:19think of Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech as the motto for all
- 40:24capricorn I have a dream. I went down. I use that mermaid tale
- 40:29to go to the bottom of the collective ocean and get a vision. And
- 40:32now I'm using my capricorn to walk. You know, as Martin Luther King
- 40:37did walk across the country to make it happen, that they can put in
- 40:42the effort when they're doing this. A Capricorn with a sense of honor and
- 40:45feeling of purpose is a beautiful thing. A Capricorn who's decided they've lost their
- 40:52sense of honor can be kind of scary, efficient criminal. But so you
- 40:57got that. You know, they need a purpose, they need goals to
- 41:00work towards. And then you said your moon and Aquarius. So the moon
- 41:05in Aquarius talks about how you were mothered and how the world uh and how
- 41:09you what makes you feel at home and that's why you are a good minister
- 41:15and why are you on doing this? You are ministering to your community.
- 41:19Aquarius is the group experience. It's a fixed air sign. It's a group
- 41:22of people talking and working together. And so you know Aquarius. The difficulty
- 41:28with Aquarius moon it can usually be in a family that was aware of their
- 41:32community or their family kind of more like, what what is your role in
- 41:38your world? Not high victor how are you feeling? What do you need?
- 41:43So it may have taken you a while to kind of really get to
- 41:45know your own what you need and what you feel, but you knew what
- 41:49the what the room needed, and what the room fell. You know what
- 41:52the community needed and what the family needed, so that that far sightedness,
- 41:55which is a real gift of Aquarius which you have to watch out for.
- 41:59With Aquarius, Moon is not trying to talk yourself into feelings. That Aquarius
- 42:05gift is to kind of understand the truth and then take it out into a
- 42:08philosophical understanding. The challenge because every sign has a challenge and every sign has
- 42:14a gift. The challenge can be to take a theory this is how the
- 42:17world should be, this is what I should feel, and then try to
- 42:21cram your experience into it. As long as you start off with your own
- 42:24authentic experience and in touch with you, with you feel. That's a real
- 42:30gift that Moon and Aquarius, So I think they all work well together.
- 42:34So I'm not a hot mess. No, No, you are versatile and
- 42:38that's different people who have planets that are a little tricky to put together can
- 42:44be you know, the Aquarius says, go be public, the cancer says,
- 42:47be very private. So as long as you can work that pattern out
- 42:52inside, that actually makes people more interesting and versatile than ones that it's an
- 42:57easy put you know, there's no clash or no nothing that you need to
- 43:01integrate together. I think that's a really good combination. Thank you, my
- 43:06guest, Heather Rowan Robbins. We'll be back with more after these words on

- 46:24We're talking about her new book Star Codes, Navigate Your Chart with Choice Based
- 46:30Astrology. Heather, how do the planets come into play? Well, I
- 46:36think of the planets when you look at a chart, it's like you're looking
- 46:39at family dynamics, and each of the planets plays a part, describes or
- 46:45symbolizes a part of our personality and the mythology around the world on these archetypes
- 46:53have a lot in common. They're easiest to read from Greek mythology and Roman
- 46:58mythology because they're right, they're they're familiar, they're psychological, they're complex.
- 47:02But I think it's really important that we also study these archetypes whether or not
- 47:07they're they're connected to the planets. But we study the archetypes in the mythologies
- 47:14from Africa, from Native America, from China because that it gives us far
- 47:19more breadth than just studying the European approach. But we take each of these
- 47:23planets refers to a part of our personality and we look at how the what
- 47:28sign they're in. And I think of the signs is like the you know
- 47:31when you go on a look at a stage lighting. They have gels that
- 47:36go over the lights. You know, here's the blue light gel, the
- 47:38red light jel, the yellow this is like, here's the you know,
- 47:42the the cancer gel. It's the filter through which the light of that planet
- 47:46is shining. It can be a way of thinking of the signs, and
- 47:52we see the light coming through filtered through that, but each the the energy
- 47:58of that planet is familiar from when we read. It's also not just the
- 48:04mythology of the planet, though that's a really powerful way to look at it.
- 48:07We can look at how the how the planet actually functions symbology in the
- 48:13Solar system, and then think of that symbolically, Mercury goes around the Sun
- 48:19every seventy seven days. It spins very fast. It's the planet closest to
- 48:22it, it's hot, it spins, and we all you know, describe
- 48:28that as the messenger of the gods, who speaks for the for the Sun.
- 48:34And in Greek mythology, mercury. When the mercury was speaking for the
- 48:38gods, Hermes was speaking for the gods, it was divine. But when
- 48:44it was working on its own as a you know, when it was not
- 48:50necessarily working for the gods, it was also the god of thieves, the
- 48:52first thing it did, you know, the the mythology of Hermes describes was
- 48:58stealing Apollo's cattle and hiding it and by putting brushes tied to the tail of
- 49:04the cows so as they moved they wiped out their footprints. And then you
- 49:07becoming ingenious and inventing a liar to give to the Apollo to apologize for it
- 49:13afterwards and get out of trouble. So that's how our minds work. Our
- 49:16minds can when we're working for our divine center, when we're working for the
- 49:22sake of all sension beings, our minds can be holy and special and kind
- 49:27of clear. When we're working just for ourselves, it can be mischievous,
- 49:30God of thieves and talk us into an out of anything. So that again
- 49:36talks about the role of mercury. But mercury is this hot plant. It
- 49:38spins around very fast, and it's when we think of it as so close
- 49:44to the sun that it's hard to tell them apart sometimes, But we see
- 49:47that little difference of how the mind works versus how the soul works, and
- 49:52I think of that as a difference between the sun and mercury. Mercury can
- 49:55only be in the same sign as our sun or the one before or afterwards,
- 49:59because it's so c and we get the word mercurial meaning changing rapidly.
- 50:06And does that come from mercury. It does come from mercury. It comes
- 50:08from the liquid that it pours and from the image of you know, mercury
- 50:15was always considered non gendered. It could be both to any gender. It
- 50:19didn't really have gender mercury, and that it was changeable and that it changed
- 50:23to fit the circumstance. So the aspects to your mercury are very important.
- 50:30And we see that pattern because it helps you define and what changes the way
- 50:36your mind works. You mentioned aspects. We have a few minutes left.
- 50:38What are aspects and what do they mean? Aspects are the geometric patterns that
- 50:44the planets make with each other. If we put ourselves, we know we're
- 50:47not the center, but we're doing it from our perspective here on Earth,
- 50:52and that so they do. It's lines of communication and the ones that are
- 50:57based on the number three, like trying and sex tiles one six of the
- 51:00way around. Our conjunctions tend to be flowing aspects where the planets work together.
- 51:07The planets that are based around number four, Like squares and oppositions,
- 51:13tend to be tense and kind of pushing, but you need a mix of
- 51:16both. The tense aspects are what power us, like a combustion engine.
- 51:22If we can get them working together. The tension between the two different needs
- 51:27of two planets at right angles to each other can be powerful and really get
- 51:31us places that discomfort pushes us to grow and connect. And see, we
- 51:37think of it like a teacher. There are teachers that are nice to us,
- 51:42and they encourage us and they help us grow. That's like the positive
- 51:45aspects. Then there's the teachers that challenge us and ask us to step up
- 51:47to the plate, you know, and can give us a hard time but
- 51:52believe in us. And you can think of that like the harder aspects.
- 51:55That those are ones that you have to meet the challenge to get the power
- 52:00and potential out of them. What are transits and progressions? The transits you
- 52:06know we have we talk about your natal chart. It is where it is.
- 52:08Then the progressions are I mentioned before that process of what your planets look
- 52:15like as they unfold over time, what your chart looks would look like by
- 52:20progression. I usually start off with the natal chart and put the progressions in
- 52:23transits on the outside of that, because you're you always have to come back
- 52:28to the natal chart. But the progressions are what's what's what's unfolding in your
- 52:34life at the moment, and the transits are really what's being played on your
- 52:40piano. That's where the planets are today and how those planets are affecting and
- 52:45speaking to your natal chart. What would you like readers to take away from
- 52:51star codes. I want them to feel empowered to look at their chart as
- 52:57something that opens their options, not closes them down. That encourages them to
- 53:01get to know themselves and to feel the pulse in pattern of the world.
- 53:07Now, one of the gifts of astrology is that if we're being affected by
- 53:10where the planets are and how they're flowing, there's a connection the world.
- 53:17We're feeling that synchronistic not causal, synchronistic connection. I always describe it like
- 53:24if you're walking by a fence and you see horns on top of the fence.
- 53:30You might not want to put your foot underneath the fence. Those horns
- 53:32won't hurt your foot, but they're both being moved by something bigger than you
- 53:37can see at the moment, and they're related, and so the aspects can
- 53:42be like the horns, and the experiences of your life can be like what
- 53:45happens the hoofs and you can see the correlation boat, but they point to
- 53:52something larger behind it. All of these connections and their empowerment, the fact
- 53:55that we can live them out, you know, we have range about how
- 53:59to live these aspects out point to that connection, that oneness, that which
- 54:06we are all a part of. Please tell us about the new Star Codes
- 54:12Astral Pocket Oracle coming out in the fall. Well, these several people have
- 54:16said they like that, they love this deck, but they wish it was
- 54:20they could use it more like just take it with them, put it in
- 54:22their purse, you know, use it to talk to and have a conversation
- 54:27with as they're going through their life. So they're coming out with a much
- 54:30smaller version of this that it's easier to take places and to work with and
- 54:35integrate in your life and keep on your desk. So it's a little more
- 54:38discreet if you're using it out in the public, but it's easier to carry
- 54:43with you. That's so it's the same deck, same book, smaller so
- 54:47that people can use it and that could be pre ordered right now, right
- 54:51wonderful, believe it can. And please share with our listeners where they can
- 54:54get your books and find out more about you and all of your work.
