- 0:05Speaker 1: Hip Hooks.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome into the Irish Seders podcast as we look back
- 0:10Speaker 2: on Week one of the NFL season. Football is back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I'm unfortunately the Sitters are on one after losing to
- 0:17Speaker 2: the San Francisco forty nine Ers by a scoreline of
- 0:20Speaker 2: thirty to seven in Week one. Before we talk about
- 0:24Speaker 2: the game, I'd like to welcome in my esteemed colleagues
- 0:27Speaker 2: co hosts. First off, Jimmy English, Jimmy House for I
- 0:30Speaker 2: get on.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Oh, Michael, I've I've gotten over the disappointment a little bit.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I've had time to digest and kind of, you know,
- 0:38Speaker 4: think about what happened yesterday.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Actual, Look, it could be worse. You know, we'll get
- 0:43Speaker 3: to that. It's it's not the outcome.
- 0:44Speaker 4: We were hoping for, but look, these things happen that
- 0:47Speaker 4: There's plenty more football ahead.
- 0:49Speaker 3: In the season.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Absolutely, MAT's talking more than we Sack and Dave. Good
- 0:54Speaker 2: to see again. Man, you got the Juju, the old
- 0:56Speaker 2: Juju shirt in the background.
- 0:58Speaker 1: As well, wrapping Juju in the background.
- 1:00Speaker 5: I was always yeah, can we go back to pre
- 1:02Speaker 5: nom I'm joking, I'm joking. Okay, let's just pump the
- 1:05Speaker 5: brakes on us and yeah, look, not the idea to start.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Maybe listening back to last week's podcast, I probably underestimated
- 1:13Speaker 5: the San Francisco forty Niners a little bit, just a
- 1:15Speaker 5: little bit, just to wave it. But look, it's what
- 1:20Speaker 5: can you do. It's just one of those games you
- 1:21Speaker 5: have to burn the tape and we're gonna get onto
- 1:24Speaker 5: the Cleveland now. Obviously they're one of our rivals. So
- 1:27Speaker 5: it's a chance to batch back and hopefully we can
- 1:28Speaker 5: do that next week.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it was Jimmy, I guess I'll start. We used
- 1:32Speaker 2: to like, I mean, look, at the end of the day,
- 1:33Speaker 2: we're a podcast with the team for the Irish market.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think there's Look, there will.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Be times where there's positivity with wins. There's going to
- 1:40Speaker 2: be times where teams lose. You don't go undefeated in
- 1:43Speaker 2: this league, albeit very rarely. So look, this is going
- 1:46Speaker 2: to happen, hopefully not too many times this season, but
- 1:49Speaker 2: you know it'll happen a few times a season. And
- 1:51Speaker 2: look for first off, I had the chance to watch
- 1:55Speaker 2: it like a like a general NFL watch party last night,
- 1:57Speaker 2: and there was a a lot of Steelers fans. There
- 2:01Speaker 2: was chatting to a family from Pittsburgh actually, and this
- 2:03Speaker 2: is Dublin and a lot of Niners fans there, so
- 2:07Speaker 2: it was a good atmosphere for the neutral, I guess,
- 2:08Speaker 2: but look, I felt like, and I'm just pinpointing the momentary,
- 2:15Speaker 2: so you give me your analysis in the second, but
- 2:17Speaker 2: I just felt like, when you go in at the
- 2:20Speaker 2: half and you come back out, I feel if the
- 2:22Speaker 2: defense had found a way to stop McCaffrey from scoring,
- 2:27Speaker 2: albeit the score line or the score on the run
- 2:31Speaker 2: that mccaff for me was top notched by his standards,
- 2:33Speaker 2: if there was a way to stop him and almost
- 2:36Speaker 2: stop the Rod a little bit, I think they could
- 2:37Speaker 2: have turned the game. Like there was moments where you
- 2:40Speaker 2: could see, of course it was frustrated moments, but there
- 2:43Speaker 2: was even that moment was a fourth and four Kenny
- 2:46Speaker 2: was close to the because the end zone, You're like, well, well,
- 2:48Speaker 2: if this could happen, there's a chance. There was so
- 2:51Speaker 2: many question marks, but look, and it just wasn't Pittsburgh's day,
- 2:58Speaker 2: not at all, and they were just beating up by
- 3:00Speaker 2: the night.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, well, yeah, absolutely, Michael.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I think we carried over a lot of hype from
- 3:05Speaker 4: the preseason, and I think it was made very evident
- 3:08Speaker 4: last night that the preseason is just that it doesn't matter,
- 3:11Speaker 4: can you can you can take that up, rip rip
- 3:13Speaker 4: it up before the actual regular season gets started. And
- 3:17Speaker 4: a couple of things went wrong last night. I think
- 3:19Speaker 4: that's been that's been generous. First of all, we couldn't
- 3:23Speaker 4: shoot down McCaffrey. I think he had one hundred and
- 3:25Speaker 4: fifty four yards in the night, and we couldn't cover
- 3:28Speaker 4: a Brandon Ayuk.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I mean they had so many weapons. Okay, we shut down.
- 3:33Speaker 4: George Kittle to a large extent, but then it's it's
- 3:36Speaker 4: like the it's like a Medusa, you.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Know, you could have one head and three more pop
- 3:40Speaker 3: up in its place.
- 3:42Speaker 4: So yeah, I think it was just a culmination of
- 3:45Speaker 4: a lot of things going wrong with last night. We
- 3:47Speaker 4: lost Cam Hayward early on to a growing injury, and
- 3:50Speaker 4: I think that made a massive difference because we couldn't
- 3:52Speaker 4: stop the run and we could really get a huge
- 3:55Speaker 4: amount of pressure on Purdy either apart from obviously you
- 3:59Speaker 4: know JJ Watt. So yeah, I mean definitely a couple
- 4:05Speaker 4: of flashes. I mean Theandy Johnson had a couple of
- 4:07Speaker 4: great catches, but then of course we lost him to
- 4:11Speaker 4: a hamstring injury as well. So just when things were
- 4:14Speaker 4: looking up a little bit. You know, it didn't really
- 4:18Speaker 4: work out, but look, you take it. You take your
- 4:21Speaker 4: lungs in week one, Week one, you carry your learnings
- 4:24Speaker 4: into the week two and hopefully have a better outcome
- 4:26Speaker 4: against the Browns and Monday night football.
- 4:29Speaker 2: This is it in the deal, Like we're the off camera,
- 4:31Speaker 2: we're going to try and do a little a little
- 4:34Speaker 2: preview of that because it's nice for us in the
- 4:36Speaker 2: sense of we have a few days extra to prepare
- 4:38Speaker 2: for this game now and we'll hopefully have one coming
- 4:40Speaker 2: towards a weekend, so so do watch out for that.
- 4:42Speaker 2: We'll touch on a little bit at the end of
- 4:44Speaker 2: this podcast episode. I think back to trying to get
- 4:48Speaker 2: a few posities in this game. I think back to
- 4:51Speaker 2: the touchdown play but the series where Pat far Arm
- 4:54Speaker 2: we've got that touchdown, Like you've seen signs there towards
- 4:57Speaker 2: the end of the first half, and like, look, the
- 5:00Speaker 2: first half was the Niners by a long shot, but
- 5:02Speaker 2: there were certain signs there. But certainly I guess what what,
- 5:05Speaker 2: just what, just what Jimmy said, they have at least
- 5:08Speaker 2: this week one, at least, you know, we know we
- 5:10Speaker 2: now have time to go in and look at how
- 5:14Speaker 2: this team can improve. And I guess that that's the
- 5:16Speaker 2: posit that we can take out of it. But obviously
- 5:18Speaker 2: there's many things that the dealers need to work on.
- 5:21Speaker 2: What was your analysis of the game.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Yeah, just just like Jimmy said, it's it's very much
- 5:26Speaker 5: the same. Obviously, Look it's it's one week. We've still
- 5:30Speaker 5: have sixteen weeks to put it all together, which is great,
- 5:33Speaker 5: but overall, you know, it was it was pretty disappointing.
- 5:35Speaker 5: We have to be honest, you know, I've just sort
- 5:37Speaker 5: of seen on social media everybody seems to be blaming
- 5:40Speaker 5: Matt Canada. I just I don't actually blame the player
- 5:43Speaker 5: call and as much as everybody else, I personally just
- 5:46Speaker 5: thought the execution wasn't there. And Kenny Peckett, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 5: it just with some of his throws just locked off,
- 5:53Speaker 5: you know, but haastlely the touchdown drive which was put
- 5:55Speaker 5: put together great, and he missed a wide open DATAE.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Johnson for a touch down as well as that, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 5: the first interception could have been avoided. But like you said,
- 6:05Speaker 5: there was some flashes there. That touchdown drive I thought
- 6:07Speaker 5: was great, and you know, a few wide out throws
- 6:10Speaker 5: to to the Andy Johnson, which was obviously perfect and
- 6:14Speaker 5: offensively just couldn't run the ball either.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Obviously we had that large sprout with with nausea.
- 6:20Speaker 5: But even coming back to what Jimmy said, I thought
- 6:22Speaker 5: we actually did well on the keep matchups like a
- 6:25Speaker 5: free remember last week where I mentioned George Kiffle, Deebo
- 6:29Speaker 5: Samuel and even McCaffrey despite having a good game on
- 6:32Speaker 5: the on the ground, I thought we dealt with him
- 6:33Speaker 5: pretty well out of the past game. But it was
- 6:35Speaker 5: just one of those where as of like the Medusa
- 6:38Speaker 5: fact that the next guy up was Brandon aug and
- 6:40Speaker 5: he is honestly like he probably under looked on that on.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That offensive side of the ball.
- 6:44Speaker 5: So it just looks like it was one of those
- 6:48Speaker 5: weeks where no matter what we've done, that the foreign
- 6:51Speaker 5: nine ers were always going to get the better of us.
- 6:52Speaker 5: But like Jimmy said, TJ. Watt was a massive positive,
- 6:55Speaker 5: you know, But at the same time it's a common
- 6:57Speaker 5: theme as Steeler fans we've been seeing over the past
- 7:00Speaker 5: couple of years other guys are just maybe not being
- 7:02Speaker 5: able to get to that level. So another's positive as well,
- 7:05Speaker 5: you know, the Bengals and the Chiefs. Everybody saying about
- 7:08Speaker 5: the NBA Super Bowl favorites, there are also one one.
- 7:10Speaker 5: So look, it's the start of a of a of a.
- 7:13Speaker 5: It's a disappointing start the season, but still got sixteen
- 7:15Speaker 5: weeks to work with, so let's just keep the the
- 7:17Speaker 5: positive head going on and we've got the brows and
- 7:20Speaker 5: actually hopefully you can bass back.
- 7:21Speaker 1: With a win.
- 7:22Speaker 4: I agree there, I agree, Dave. I don't blame Matt
- 7:24Speaker 4: Canada at all. Kenny Keny Pickett didn't settle in all night.
- 7:27Speaker 4: He was completely off rhythm.
- 7:29Speaker 3: It didn't help that the so called picket fence it
- 7:32Speaker 3: felt it.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Felt, it felt a part a little bit couldn't establish
- 7:36Speaker 4: the run, which put all the pressure on picket. And
- 7:39Speaker 4: you know, the forty nine ers middle linebackers had an
- 7:42Speaker 4: absolute field day, blowing up the run on several occasions,
- 7:46Speaker 4: and it just it just felt.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Like nothing would go right for the Steeters. Okay, there
- 7:53Speaker 3: was a bright spot.
- 7:53Speaker 4: On that on that touchdown drive to for mil although
- 7:58Speaker 4: we all we almost we went for a fourth and
- 8:00Speaker 4: four and almost true out of Bud and Sandy McFarland.
- 8:04Speaker 3: That made me panic a little bit.
- 8:06Speaker 4: But speaking of McFarland, he almost broke a couple of
- 8:10Speaker 4: a couple of returns. So I mean, if we are
- 8:12Speaker 4: if we are looking for looking for positives, I think
- 8:15Speaker 4: that has to be a positive of this game. Was
- 8:18Speaker 4: Parliament on on kickoff returns, you.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Know, and then going on what sort of going for
- 8:25Speaker 2: what you said there? But can he pick it? I mean,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Jimmy and I guess for you day as a respond
- 8:29Speaker 2: he was under pressure of forty six percent of his
- 8:31Speaker 2: drop boxes today, just did didn't like sort of looked
- 8:34Speaker 2: to be but all didn't look confident. But look, it's
- 8:35Speaker 2: game one. You've got people on social media already knocking
- 8:38Speaker 2: them dying. He'll come back next week.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Yeah, no, that's what I'm saying. We know the sort
- 8:44Speaker 5: of character he is. He's not going to just sit
- 8:46Speaker 5: there and you know, weeping his own sorrow. He's gonna
- 8:48Speaker 5: bounce back. And I personally can't think of a batter
- 8:51Speaker 5: game than Cleveland to prove that, you know, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 5: just that. We'll obviously preview the Browns a bit later,
- 8:56Speaker 5: but I sort of watched back on the Browns game.
- 8:59Speaker 5: They didn't although of course they put a big number
- 9:01Speaker 5: up on on Cincinnati, but I didn't, you know, that
- 9:03Speaker 5: Shaun Watson was okay, I honestly think we could vince
- 9:07Speaker 5: back next week. And and I think Kenny's going to
- 9:09Speaker 5: prove all that as wrong if you just say as
- 9:10Speaker 5: well quickly, we didn't even Mentionine broad Party, either Broad
- 9:14Speaker 5: Party I thought was I'm telling you, I just I
- 9:19Speaker 5: was also critical of them last week. I'll tell you what.
- 9:22Speaker 1: It proved me wrong.
- 9:22Speaker 5: I genuinely think they're they're their targets should always be
- 9:26Speaker 5: obsolutely the super Bowl, but I they're nailed on for
- 9:28Speaker 5: the NFC championship team.
- 9:29Speaker 6: I think they're absolutely I think I think, you know,
- 9:32Speaker 6: giving the performances of who we could consider their closest
- 9:35Speaker 6: competitors in the NFC, I think that the forty nine
- 9:39Speaker 6: ers are head and shoulders at the moment.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Again, let's like you said, Dave, let's pump on the
- 9:44Speaker 4: brakes a little bit here. It's only week one, and
- 9:47Speaker 4: not to massively over react, but they like even even
- 9:51Speaker 4: echoing what Mike Tomans and in his press conference after,
- 9:54Speaker 4: you have to give those guys credit for what they did.
- 9:57Speaker 4: And they came out and looked like a team in
- 9:58Speaker 4: mid season late season four, I mean, they were almost
- 10:01Speaker 4: flawless to be honest with.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You, Rock party for a guy that went dying, and
- 10:06Speaker 2: there was question marked upon his return and want sort
- 10:08Speaker 2: of player what he'd be like when he returned. He
- 10:10Speaker 2: wouldn't have thought he was a lost pick in this raft.
- 10:12Speaker 2: His calmness is composure and it makes you feel like,
- 10:15Speaker 2: well kind of could be like even next season going
- 10:17Speaker 2: forward as well when he's more in the league. So
- 10:19Speaker 2: let's let's hear first off from coach Tomlin after gets
- 10:23Speaker 2: his defeats. Here's what he had to say in the
- 10:25Speaker 2: press conference after, you.
- 10:29Speaker 7: Know, disappointing day for us, not how we wanted to perform,
- 10:34Speaker 7: And while at the same time, you know, you got
- 10:36Speaker 7: to compliment those guys because it unfolded in the manner
- 10:40Speaker 7: in which they desired for it too. And oftentimes in
- 10:43Speaker 7: games like this, man, the teams that win are the
- 10:46Speaker 7: guy the game unfolds more to their personality than the opponent.
- 10:51Speaker 7: And no question, the game unfolded in the manner in
- 10:54Speaker 7: which we talked about the style of play that they
- 10:57Speaker 7: like to play. As far back as I talk to
- 10:59Speaker 7: you guys on on Tuesday, I thought they did a
- 11:03Speaker 7: really good job of staying on schedule on offense, and
- 11:06Speaker 7: being in manageable third downs that allowed them to win
- 11:11Speaker 7: enough of those third downs or to reduce you in
- 11:15Speaker 7: those circumstances where you can't create splash on the other
- 11:19Speaker 7: side of the ball. We didn't win enough possession downs
- 11:22Speaker 7: to be competitive. You can't start games they go zero
- 11:25Speaker 7: and five on third down and think that you're going
- 11:27Speaker 7: to have the type of day that you desire. You
- 11:29Speaker 7: got to win the way the downs. And it's just
- 11:32Speaker 7: more than just a kind of identifying that component. Man,
- 11:36Speaker 7: it was a failure on our part in all areas.
- 11:38Speaker 7: You know, we got to coach better, we got to
- 11:40Speaker 7: play better. We talked about a lot of the things
- 11:44Speaker 7: and worked on a lot of the things that unfolded
- 11:46Speaker 7: in the ways that we didn't want them to. And
- 11:49Speaker 7: so we go back to the drawing board. We accept
- 11:51Speaker 7: responsibility obviously for the outcome. We compliment those guys on
- 11:56Speaker 7: the quality work that they did. We absorbed the negativity
- 11:59Speaker 7: that comes with how we perform today, and we go
- 12:01Speaker 7: back to work. We gotta prepare them better, they gotta
- 12:04Speaker 7: play better. And that's just the reality of it. We
- 12:10Speaker 7: got kicked in the teeth today in a lot of ways,
- 12:15Speaker 7: got some injuries to speak of Cam he's got a
- 12:18Speaker 7: growing leal, he's got a trisap or arm injury being evaluated, moves,
- 12:26Speaker 7: he's got a chest injury. Chooks went down, Ladd probably
- 12:29Speaker 7: in the concussion protocol. Don't have a lot of information there.
- 12:32Speaker 7: And Deata went down with a hamstring. So we we'll
- 12:37Speaker 7: assess those things, particularly as we plan and move into
- 12:40Speaker 7: next week and and.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Get ready to answer for this. Paulson open it up
- 12:45Speaker 1: for questions.
- 12:47Speaker 8: What was some of the inconsistencies or what was going
- 12:50Speaker 8: on offensively?
- 12:51Speaker 1: You couldn't get in and going.
- 12:52Speaker 7: We just we just it's just that you know, you
- 12:56Speaker 7: don't have enough snaps. Man, you're going you know you're
- 12:58Speaker 7: going three and out. You can talk about run game,
- 13:02Speaker 7: but the run game issues were not enough snaps because
- 13:05Speaker 7: we were pre and out. We gotta win the weady downs.
- 13:09Speaker 7: Everyone has to win the weighty downs. That's just that's
- 13:12Speaker 7: the lifeblood of ball possession. And we didn't do a
- 13:15Speaker 7: good enough job today on either side, but particularly how
- 13:19Speaker 7: we started offensively.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Not good.
- 13:25Speaker 8: McCaffrey coming in and I guess he lived up to
- 13:27Speaker 8: your worst fears, Raider.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Your defense didn't do very good against him.
- 13:31Speaker 7: Yeah, when not when we're not possessing the ball, man,
- 13:35Speaker 7: that that's gonna happen. We got to do a better
- 13:40Speaker 7: job on those weighty downs to minimize our exposure to him.
- 13:43Speaker 7: And we got to do a better job on both
- 13:44Speaker 7: sides of the ball on those weighty downs to limit
- 13:47Speaker 7: our exposure to him. We gotta get off on defense,
- 13:50Speaker 7: We gotta convert on offense.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 13:52Speaker 7: Just look at the time of possession. I think last
- 13:54Speaker 7: time I looked up, it was thirty six or something
- 13:56Speaker 7: to twenty two something. The day is going to unfold
- 14:00Speaker 7: the way you desire it when this lops at it
- 14:02Speaker 7: like that and it boils down the possession down play.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And that was Colon after the defeat at Orchestra Stadium
- 14:10Speaker 2: ands Onday, we're gonna hear from Camy Pickett before we
- 14:12Speaker 2: look at a different element of this game.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Kenny, what were they do want to do?
- 14:18Speaker 3: It was community prout, particularly in the first set.
- 14:20Speaker 9: Yeah, we just did an execute. Honestly, I think it
- 14:22Speaker 9: was more us than than them. I felt comfortable with what
- 14:25Speaker 9: I was.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Saying, what they were doing. We just in the next
- 14:26Speaker 1: cue like we needed to. Did you feel like your
- 14:28Speaker 1: timing was off a little bit?
- 14:31Speaker 9: No, I wouldn't say, wouldn't say it was a timing thing,
- 14:33Speaker 9: just you know, need to be better.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It's an execution.
- 14:36Speaker 4: You guys were able to score so often and so
- 14:38Speaker 4: freely in the preseason.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Just what do you attribute to that lack of executions?
- 14:41Speaker 9: I think San France starting defense a little bit better
- 14:43Speaker 9: than you know, some teams in the preseason we played.
- 14:46Speaker 9: They're a good team, but you know we at the
- 14:47Speaker 9: end of the day, we had the next que anywhere
- 14:48Speaker 9: near at the level that we need to that we
- 14:51Speaker 9: want to.
- 14:51Speaker 1: So you know, I have to get a lot better
- 14:54Speaker 1: in the first half.
- 14:55Speaker 5: What do you think change for that drive and why
- 14:57Speaker 5: do you think you were able to sustain that later
- 14:59Speaker 5: on in the second happen?
- 15:00Speaker 9: Well, it's a two minute drill, so it's a little
- 15:02Speaker 9: bit different than you know, normal Nord down football. Good
- 15:06Speaker 9: to go down there and get points, but you know,
- 15:07Speaker 9: we needed to have more balance and felt like just
- 15:10Speaker 9: we were kind of one sided today, couldn't get anything
- 15:12Speaker 9: going really on the ground. I wish we had more balance,
- 15:15Speaker 9: but you know, we need to improve. You know, in
- 15:17Speaker 9: a lot of areas, the applied kind of change how
- 15:20Speaker 9: you were looking at things or stop.
- 15:22Speaker 5: You from maybe do it, we'll executing more of your
- 15:23Speaker 5: progressions that you were looking at today.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think we held up great.
- 15:27Speaker 9: Obviously they're gonna get some pass rush on me here
- 15:29Speaker 9: and there, but I thought, you know, the guys pretended
- 15:32Speaker 9: really well and they're asked to do it a lot,
- 15:33Speaker 9: so you need to help them out.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Get the ball out fast.
- 15:36Speaker 9: Guys need to get over fast, and you know, got
- 15:38Speaker 9: to improve anyway.
- 15:40Speaker 8: You didn't get a first down for like ever and
- 15:41Speaker 8: you're falling behind slowly. How hard is it to play
- 15:44Speaker 8: from behind against that defense?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so you know we wanted to get out fast.
- 15:47Speaker 1: We didn't do that.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Obviously, playing behind against a really good team, you're putting
- 15:51Speaker 9: yourself in a hole that we can't do.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So moving forward, we can't you know, allow that to happen.
- 15:55Speaker 8: Any of the pastor fourth douth past to firements in
- 15:58Speaker 8: the end zone in the second half? Was that did
- 16:01Speaker 8: you have to rush that or was there a breakdown
- 16:03Speaker 8: somewhere else that it was you.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Know, pat solid differently than I saw it.
- 16:08Speaker 9: So it's just you know, us communicating and being able
- 16:10Speaker 9: to you know connect on the more.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Does that when you're trailing and you know you had
- 16:15Speaker 4: talked a lot about coverage kind of dictates where you go,
- 16:17Speaker 4: but it sometimes you need to make a play down
- 16:20Speaker 4: the field.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Do you feel like that was Narry.
- 16:22Speaker 9: Where you Yeah, when you get down behind like that
- 16:23Speaker 9: puts you in situations where you're, you know, forcing things
- 16:26Speaker 9: that you shouldn't be forcing, or you're trying to make
- 16:27Speaker 9: a play you know, down to get us back. You know,
- 16:30Speaker 9: that's why the key is to stay, you know, in
- 16:32Speaker 9: the game and not get down with that where you're
- 16:34Speaker 9: trying to run and gun and score.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Coming off the preseason and everything was disappointing one hundred percent,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you know, no doubt about. It has to be a
- 16:40Speaker 1: lot better.
- 16:41Speaker 9: It needs to be a lot better moving forward.
- 16:47Speaker 2: So you've heard from coach Tomlin, I'm canny.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Detective, folks.
- 16:49Speaker 2: After this, Theaters lose thirty to seven in the first
- 16:53Speaker 2: game of the season. Next up Brian's Monday Night Football,
- 16:58Speaker 2: and like, I think people will be glad to hear
- 17:00Speaker 2: that the Steelers fans and Dublin last night outnumbered the
- 17:03Speaker 2: Browns fans and it was actually a great fun as
- 17:05Speaker 2: well as sort of the banter there. So started thinking
- 17:07Speaker 2: forward to that is it's it's a great game boys
- 17:08Speaker 2: and we will preview it. I feel like we need
- 17:10Speaker 2: the first off, Jimmy, I'll start with you, sir. For
- 17:13Speaker 2: people in Ireland and like I know, we've got a
- 17:15Speaker 2: lot of people as well listening to this in the
- 17:17Speaker 2: UK and Europe. And a massive thanks to everybody listening
- 17:19Speaker 2: and partaking. Please do use the hashtag Steeters Ireland on x,
- 17:23Speaker 2: Instagram and tech talk if you want to get in
- 17:25Speaker 2: touch with US Army and broadcast last night in Ireland
- 17:29Speaker 2: and the UK. Sky Sports were where they were in
- 17:32Speaker 2: Pittsburgh and friend of podcast Bob Schackter was interviewing our
- 17:36Speaker 2: Rooney and it was look, if you're if you're a fan,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you would have seen this. But Jimmy, it was pretty
- 17:42Speaker 2: cool man. Like just I feel like it was a
- 17:45Speaker 2: real push and fair play to the Staeters and and
- 17:48Speaker 2: fair play to the sky Sports for going into detail
- 17:50Speaker 2: a lot of but it shows you the the level
- 17:53Speaker 2: of not interest, but the level of commitment that this
- 17:56Speaker 2: team has to this market. And for me, it head
- 17:58Speaker 2: home to me watching it, Like at the place we
- 18:00Speaker 2: were in, everyone sat in silence watching it. It was
- 18:03Speaker 2: it was pretty cool.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely great to see skuy Sports there, you know,
- 18:08Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh, in the run up to the game, maybe
- 18:11Speaker 4: realize how badly I need to get to it to
- 18:13Speaker 4: a Steelers home game.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I feel slightly ashamed as a such a die hard
- 18:17Speaker 3: fan that I am that I have never set forward
- 18:19Speaker 3: in Pittsburgh, let alone Acroturre Stadium.
- 18:22Speaker 4: So that's definitely on the short term boocket list for
- 18:25Speaker 4: either this season or next season.
- 18:27Speaker 3: But it was fantastic to see Phoebe speaking to Aruni.
- 18:31Speaker 4: And talking about the international markets program with and the investment,
- 18:35Speaker 4: and even they touched on the Irelands Fund and how
- 18:38Speaker 4: this whole, this whole, this whole thing came to life,
- 18:42Speaker 4: and he wasn't shying away from from committing to a
- 18:45Speaker 4: game on home soil here. You know, he wouldn't, he
- 18:49Speaker 4: wouldn't be nailed down on details, but it's it's definitely
- 18:52Speaker 4: gonna happen. But that was great to see and great
- 18:55Speaker 4: to hear from him, but also to hear the atmosphere
- 18:57Speaker 4: in the stadium pregame with Neil and th You mean,
- 19:00Speaker 4: they could barely hear themselves, So that just showed showed
- 19:03Speaker 4: you the atmosphere in the stadium, and the whole thing
- 19:06Speaker 4: was it was fantastic, really fantastic presentation by Sky Sports,
- 19:09Speaker 4: and uh really really enjoyed the coverage of the game.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:13Speaker 2: And in terms of what Rooney said Phoebe on Sky
- 19:15Speaker 2: Sports yesterday on the question of there being a game,
- 19:19Speaker 2: whether it's a preseason game or a regular season game,
- 19:22Speaker 2: he said, we'll get there and it's going to be
- 19:25Speaker 2: exciting when we get there. And when I heard that,
- 19:28Speaker 2: I was like, oh my lord, I give I'll give
- 19:30Speaker 2: a shout out to Tanner Tanner Cordon and is Mickey
- 19:35Speaker 2: Breally Mickey's from Newry who went all the way to
- 19:37Speaker 2: the game? Is seen that yesterday? That was I saw that.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Oh no, it's Antonio Holmes Junior as well. And seeing
- 19:47Speaker 2: Max Stark's talk about, you know, saying it's not far
- 19:49Speaker 2: it's not far fetched to think you can get to
- 19:51Speaker 2: Ireland and let's I mean, do you have not not
- 19:53Speaker 2: to jump to a different subject, feel feel free to
- 19:55Speaker 2: reply to that as well. But the funny thing is
- 19:58Speaker 2: one of the things that we were going to talk
- 19:59Speaker 2: about s was the fact that we have a watch
- 20:01Speaker 2: party in Croker in a few months time in November nineteenth,
- 20:03Speaker 2: that the HQ against the Browns that return game after
- 20:06Speaker 2: week two and we don't even need to talk about
- 20:09Speaker 2: it too much because it's sold out and look, we'll
- 20:11Speaker 2: not say the amount of people that are going to it,
- 20:13Speaker 2: but it's in the it's in the hundreds, and it's
- 20:16Speaker 2: pretty unprecedented, pretty cool times to be a Sailors fan. Dave,
- 20:20Speaker 2: you must be looking back for five years ago and
- 20:22Speaker 2: pencing yourself here at the minute.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Yeah, Like even just as Jimmy said about, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 5: the package Sky Sports put Togeather, it give me proper
- 20:30Speaker 5: goosebumps just even thinking about it again. And you know
- 20:33Speaker 5: what it's it's the pride as well. I was just
- 20:35Speaker 5: sitting back thinking what a great thing to be a
- 20:38Speaker 5: part of. You know, we're here at the very start
- 20:39Speaker 5: of it, and you know it was only a couple
- 20:41Speaker 5: of months agoo that you know it was announced. Obviously
- 20:43Speaker 5: they get the global marketing rights for Ireland and here
- 20:46Speaker 5: we are already we're talking about a game. Art Rinni
- 20:48Speaker 5: himself mentioned it so and the watch party as well,
- 20:52Speaker 5: you know, sold out in less than twenty four hours.
- 20:54Speaker 5: It just shows, you know, the massive demand for Stalor
- 20:56Speaker 5: football in Ireland. But yeah, it's just even speaking about
- 21:01Speaker 5: the parade and stuff we actually have on us, like
- 21:03Speaker 5: it's to be a part of this journey. It's just
- 21:05Speaker 5: it's just incredible. And as just as Jimmy said, you know,
- 21:09Speaker 5: I've never been to a crossure either. I've never even
- 21:11Speaker 5: been to America. So who knows what will happen in
- 21:13Speaker 5: the future. You know, I can get the next flight
- 21:15Speaker 5: out west, see what.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Happens live podcast. I think we're going to have to
- 21:20Speaker 2: have a live podcast off of that Brian's game.
- 21:24Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Like I think, it's just a fantastic opportunity to take.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I mean, all the heart, all the great work that
- 21:31Speaker 4: you know we've been doing here in the podcast the
- 21:33Speaker 4: Steeers have been doing to promote and themselves and and
- 21:37Speaker 4: grow the band base here and and you know, to
- 21:39Speaker 4: get some of the legends that are going to be
- 21:41Speaker 4: at the at the watch party as well, and to
- 21:44Speaker 4: hear their perspective and the growth of the fandom here
- 21:46Speaker 4: is the growth of the Steelers nation and Ireland will
- 21:48Speaker 4: be fantastic. And of course to hear from our fans
- 21:50Speaker 4: you know where we we we definitely have some big,
- 21:53Speaker 4: big Steelers fans in Ireland and that will be in
- 21:56Speaker 4: attendance and it'd be great to hear from them as
- 21:58Speaker 4: well on the night.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm looking forward to that and I think, yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 2: let's see if we can get away thirty forty minutes shot.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Even if it's just us after the game, I'll happily
- 22:08Speaker 2: stay behind and get it. I think it'll be a
- 22:09Speaker 2: great crack. I guess we'll get a few video as
- 22:12Speaker 2: well in November nineteenth. We are not aware of any
- 22:15Speaker 2: other tickets being available, but do check out social channels
- 22:18Speaker 2: for that happening. And look, let's let's come back later
- 22:21Speaker 2: in the week and look at the Browns properly and
- 22:23Speaker 2: we'll get a guess. I think it's too early to
- 22:24Speaker 2: bring will feedback, but we'll get somebody on, maybe a
- 22:28Speaker 2: player who knows any initial thoughts. I guess, Jimmy, I'll
- 22:31Speaker 2: start off with you first off, me like that Brown's
- 22:33Speaker 2: Bengals game was strange on Week one, Joe Burrow didn't
- 22:37Speaker 2: look into it at all. The touchdown run that de
- 22:41Speaker 2: Seaun Watson's where he was under a bit of pressure,
- 22:44Speaker 2: it was impressive enough. He didn't he didn't have a
- 22:47Speaker 2: great game, though. I saided that like you're you're sort
- 22:49Speaker 2: of waiting to see that jump from when he came
- 22:51Speaker 2: back to now, you know, maybe you'll see that next
- 22:54Speaker 2: week and the Seers will have to react to that.
- 22:55Speaker 2: But certainly can't think of a better opportunity for Pittsburgh
- 22:59Speaker 2: than to go in to Cleveland next week and and
- 23:02Speaker 2: honestly just put a beat down and when the game
- 23:05Speaker 2: gets one on one and go from there.
- 23:07Speaker 3: It's definitely an opportunity for redemption.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Mick and I think the Steelers are going to have
- 23:12Speaker 4: to take a massive step if they want to have
- 23:14Speaker 4: any hope of being competitive in that ASC North. There's
- 23:20Speaker 4: a couple of things that stand out to me has
- 23:22Speaker 4: been important. Obviously, you're facing another one of the one
- 23:27Speaker 4: of the other best pass rushers in the league in
- 23:30Speaker 4: Miles Garrett. So I think the online are going to
- 23:33Speaker 4: have their work cut out with them again, and maybe
- 23:35Speaker 4: not to the same extent as they have with Joey Boza. Well,
- 23:39Speaker 4: look what happened there is they double team Bose a
- 23:41Speaker 4: lot of the game and not allowed the likes of
- 23:43Speaker 4: Fred Warner and the other middle linebackers to come out
- 23:45Speaker 4: the middle and stop the run. So that's what you
- 23:48Speaker 4: have to look out for. And of course looking at
- 23:51Speaker 4: Sean Watson as well, it's a very mobile quarnerback perhaps
- 23:54Speaker 4: more than brock Purty. So you have to you have
- 23:57Speaker 4: to you have to allow from that as well, and
- 24:00Speaker 4: it's gonna be interesting. I mean, I think it's it's
- 24:02Speaker 4: a it's a it's a good opportunity for the serious
- 24:05Speaker 4: to bounds back, to make some steps. Hopefully Kenny set
- 24:08Speaker 4: us in earlier on connects with his receivers. Hopefully he
- 24:10Speaker 4: gets George Pickens more involved in the game. I think
- 24:13Speaker 4: George Pickens had two catches and two catches last night,
- 24:17Speaker 4: and of course he almost he almost had a passive
- 24:19Speaker 4: touchdown that was there was out of bounds.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Like got very excited when I saw that. I realized
- 24:24Speaker 3: his speaker miles at a band. So look, I think overall,
- 24:27Speaker 3: we just need a bigger performance.
- 24:29Speaker 4: I go need to fix as many of the areas
- 24:34Speaker 4: that you know that that need to be fixed from
- 24:36Speaker 4: last night.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I think as well, Dave, get a running game going.
- 24:40Speaker 2: You know you've got to see Nauge get over forty
- 24:41Speaker 2: yards Russian. I think to like, come on, gentlemen, like,
- 24:44Speaker 2: let's let's get that going. Let's set him loose that.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Let's not just set nas us but set RB two,
- 24:49Speaker 2: RB three loose looking at this dive not to get
- 24:54Speaker 2: to this point already when you know we're thirty or
- 24:56Speaker 2: forty minutes into a podcast here in a week one
- 24:58Speaker 2: of the season. But the implicye this game, you're going
- 25:01Speaker 2: into a divisional rival, Dave, and you could go one
- 25:04Speaker 2: on one.
- 25:04Speaker 1: You could go on too.
- 25:05Speaker 2: It's a huge game. So we'rely in the season now
- 25:07Speaker 2: to this first game.
- 25:09Speaker 5: It's an absolutely massive game. And although we're only in
- 25:12Speaker 5: the second week, as you said, it's a divisional game.
- 25:14Speaker 5: So the last thing we want to be is own
- 25:16Speaker 5: to and have the branch go to know and obviously
- 25:19Speaker 5: the Ravens are I'm not sure who they're.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Playing, but.
- 25:23Speaker 5: It's it's a I wouldn't want to say it's a
- 25:24Speaker 5: must win game because at the end of the day,
- 25:26Speaker 5: you know, we started pretty sluggously last year and we
- 25:29Speaker 5: still came back to be one on game off the playoffs.
- 25:32Speaker 5: And as Jimmy mentioned there about Ma's Yard, obviously massive player.
- 25:36Speaker 1: We're going to have to you know, be you know,
- 25:37Speaker 1: set our eyes and on early.
- 25:39Speaker 5: But on the on the other side of the ball,
- 25:40Speaker 5: we have we have Nick Chubb.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Uh.
- 25:43Speaker 5: You know, it doesn't get any easier, I think, you know,
- 25:45Speaker 5: Obviously McCaffrey is as good as it comes with Nick
- 25:48Speaker 5: Chubb's another absolute monster, you know as a running back.
- 25:50Speaker 5: So that's another person we're going to have to hang
- 25:52Speaker 5: our hat on. And so let's just let's just see
- 25:55Speaker 5: how it goes. You know, we're we're gonna have to
- 25:58Speaker 5: set our sights on the on the breath is and
- 26:00Speaker 5: not said. You know, they're a team that we we
- 26:01Speaker 5: know very well. We have a good record against them.
- 26:04Speaker 5: But I am so confident that we can bounce back.
- 26:05Speaker 5: You know, it's we shut enough in the second or
- 26:08Speaker 5: at least in the bits in the second quarter of
- 26:09Speaker 5: the show that we have a bit of heart going better.
- 26:11Speaker 5: So let's see what happens and hopefully we'll get back
- 26:14Speaker 5: to tive foundered.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Yes sir, Yes, sir.
- 26:17Speaker 2: We'll be back later on in the week ahead of
- 26:19Speaker 2: the second week of the season going on that Ravens
- 26:22Speaker 2: Bengals game in the AFC NORP week as well. So
- 26:24Speaker 2: it's it's the big weekend in the vision. Look, I
- 26:26Speaker 2: think any football family look forward to any game in
- 26:28Speaker 2: the league, but two big games there obviously for us,
- 26:31Speaker 2: big game Monday night football. We will regroup, we will
- 26:34Speaker 2: come back for a week two and we'll be back
- 26:36Speaker 2: towards the weekend with a nice little bonus episode where
- 26:38Speaker 2: we look ahead to the game. So to go forward
- 26:40Speaker 2: to it, Lads, you have calmed me down a wee
- 26:42Speaker 2: bit broughbably back into this and I definitely appreciate it.
- 26:45Speaker 2: But you know what, like, regardless of the result, great
- 26:48Speaker 2: to see football back yesterday, and yes, and we'll go
- 26:51Speaker 2: from there and we'll we'll just go sixteen and one
- 26:54Speaker 2: that said, you know, until then, here we go. Lots
- 26:58Speaker 2: almost eager and we can folks banks, everybody that has
- 27:01Speaker 2: in has listened interacted, remember hashtag Steeters Ireland at Steters
- 27:05Speaker 2: Ireland on x Instagram and TikTok Katy Sin Jimmy dive
- 27:10Speaker 2: here we got, Here we go
