Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, hello, and welcome to another episode of Off
- 0:03Speaker 1: the Air, the weekly podcast from the Lynch & Tacos
- 0:06Speaker 1: show here at 101.1 WJRR in beautiful Orlando, Florida.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Got all the cameras set up.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We're live, dude. We're live and rolling. Paramore looking really good.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Glad to have you back in the fold here, man.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yes, sir. I appreciate y'all for having me here, and
- 0:22Speaker 3: thank you very much.
- 0:23Speaker 4: The reason why I asked about the cameras is because
- 0:25Speaker 4: I see Paramore out of my peripheral vision.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Loaded right up to that camera like this, Pat.
- 0:33Speaker 1: You see anybody in there, Paramore?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Not yet, but you know what I'm saying? Whoever stole
- 0:38Speaker 3: the other camera, I'm still looking for you. Don't let
- 0:40Speaker 3: me find you.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Milk carton material.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Somebody stole our camera. I had the balls to walk
- 0:48Speaker 4: into our studio and steal one of our cameras.
- 0:51Speaker 3: That part.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, high dollar cameras months ago.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Hello.
- 0:55Speaker 2: We got a new system now.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yep, yep, yep.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Oh, little fun fact, fellas, and I'm not going to
- 1:01Speaker 1: jinx anything here because there's nothing brewing. Today, September 10th,
- 1:07Speaker 1: is the peak day of hurricane season. Mm-hmm.
- 1:11Speaker 3: All righty then.
- 1:12Speaker 1: There is nothing brewing out in the Atlantic Basin for
- 1:16Speaker 1: at least the next seven to ten days. Nothing.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And Paramore, he told me this yesterday, so....
- 1:22Speaker 1: Tomorrow, which ironically is September 11th, and more on that,
- 1:27Speaker 1: but Tomorrow will mark the deepest into hurricane season we've
- 1:31Speaker 1: ever made it without a named hurricane in the Atlantic Basin.
- 1:36Speaker 3: That part.
- 1:37Speaker 4: And the life coach yesterday said we should all get
- 1:41Speaker 4: homeowners insurance discounts for that happening.
- 1:45Speaker 1: That seriously would make too much sense. If you go
- 1:48Speaker 1: through a– they get to raise the rates if they
- 1:52Speaker 1: have to do huge payouts, right?
- 1:54Speaker 2: They already did from last year.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Of course.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so– Hey, maybe you can make all of your,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you know.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's not going to happen. Yeah, that's not
- 2:03Speaker 3: going to happen.
- 2:04Speaker 2: No, we know that.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yeah, but anywho.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So, like I said, that doesn't mean, don't let your
- 2:09Speaker 1: guard down. You know there can still be storms any
- 2:11Speaker 1: time between now and even into November sometimes.
- 2:15Speaker 3: That part.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So, have your batteries and your canned soup and beer.
- 2:19Speaker 3: And generators. Put generators outside in the little shed. It'll work.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Don't put the generator inside. No, no, no, no. Put
- 2:26Speaker 3: it out on the outside. Carport, no, no, no, no.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Put it in a little shed. Put it outside so
- 2:31Speaker 3: the rain won't get it.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Why do you keep saying a little shed?
- 2:34Speaker 1: Well, you don't want it to get stormed on.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, not in the doghouse.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Mine's a manly generator.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I just put that sumbitch right where it is in
- 2:42Speaker 4: the backyard with the plug plugged into the house.
- 2:45Speaker 3: See, and once again, that's his neighborhood. Not in my neighborhood.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Put it in the little doghouse, people. Yep, yep, yep.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Oh, I still lock it up if that's what you're
- 2:56Speaker 4: worried about.
- 2:56Speaker 1: He just doesn't want it in your house where it'll
- 2:58Speaker 1: kill you.
- 2:59Speaker 4: No, he's also worried. He's not worried about it getting wet, Pat.
- 3:03Speaker 4: That's just part of the generator. He's worried about getting jacked.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Hell, because you know what I'm saying? Like, you get
- 3:08Speaker 3: a big red or big yellow big old thing outside
- 3:12Speaker 3: your house, and you got lights on a couple of
- 3:14Speaker 3: blocks down. So, fool, he ain't got no lights. And
- 3:17Speaker 3: guess what? Flathead doing.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 2: He's heading your way.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Hello, for a little while.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Is it worth, because again, you really have, as part
- 3:26Speaker 1: of you, you know, being a part of the team here,
- 3:30Speaker 1: we have learned a lot from you.
- 3:31Speaker 3: That part.
- 3:32Speaker 1: On a lot of different levels, stuff that we just
- 3:35Speaker 1: weren't aware of.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Hello, hello, I'm here to help.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You got into thievery there in the hood. Does having
- 3:41Speaker 1: a security system do any good?
- 3:44Speaker 3: No, sir, because eight times out of ten, them suckers
- 3:46Speaker 3: done put the freaking security system together that they're selling
- 3:50Speaker 3: nationwide because they know how to work a freaking machine.
- 3:53Speaker 3: You know, believe it or not, people, black folks are
- 3:56Speaker 3: real smart. You know what I'm saying? I'm dead serious
- 3:58Speaker 3: on that, too. But then again, stop.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I'm telling you, if my alarm goes off, they're calling
- 4:04Speaker 4: me in moments.
- 4:05Speaker 1: No, you don't live in the hood.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm talking about do people in the hood have security systems?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Okay. All right.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You're talking about stuff being pinched.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Hello.
- 4:17Speaker 3: The people in the hood, we don't steal from each other.
- 4:20Speaker 3: We don't steal from each other. Because basically, like, if
- 4:23Speaker 3: we have a house party, we have something over, and
- 4:26Speaker 3: then somebody look at the wall and say, hey, man.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And that's my TV.
- 4:29Speaker 3: And then rolling, moving furniture. You know what I'm saying? But, though,
- 4:33Speaker 3: if you go out there to, like, Winter Park or
- 4:36Speaker 3: used to be Metro West or back out there, sometimes
- 4:40Speaker 3: if you can escape Ocala, yeah, you can get some
- 4:43Speaker 3: pretty good stuff. Okay.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So, anyway, to clarify, Taco has made the right move
- 4:48Speaker 1: having the security system outside of the hood where it
- 4:51Speaker 1: is needed because of what you just said.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. In the hood, I mean, I do–
- 4:56Speaker 3: We had a governor in Washington, D.C. that was caught
- 5:01Speaker 3: on camera doing crack.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Marion Barry.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Boom, y'all.
- 5:06Speaker 1: He's the mayor of D.C., yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And he said that it wasn't him, and he was
- 5:11Speaker 3: found not guilty.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And they reelected him.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Hello.
- 5:13Speaker 2: They did. They truly reelected him.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah. But then again, that does show you how black
- 5:18Speaker 3: technology worked for black people.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you something.
- 5:22Speaker 4: The generator, there are times if you're sitting in a
- 5:26Speaker 4: house for, let's say, six days without a generator, and
- 5:30Speaker 4: you have no power and it's hot as hell, and
- 5:33Speaker 4: you're hearing those generators around in your neighborhood, A, they're
- 5:36Speaker 4: keeping you up because you have no ambient noise going
- 5:39Speaker 4: in your house, and B, you start thinking because you're
- 5:42Speaker 4: delirious from the heat going, you know, I could probably
- 5:46Speaker 4: go get that generator.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Hey, on the subject, let's move on from this. But
- 5:54Speaker 1: keeping with kind of the subject of being hot and overheating,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I've partially heard something you two were talking about a
- 6:02Speaker 1: few minutes ago before we even got into this. I
- 6:05Speaker 1: don't want you to, please do not name any names.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Let's just speak about this in generality.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Hello. Not where it happened or anything.
- 6:14Speaker 1: There was an event several years ago. Yes.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Which, you know.
- 6:20Speaker 1: The station was present at, and somebody at the event
- 6:24Speaker 1: had what, overheated?
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yes, almost a heat stroke, but it just was a
- 6:30Speaker 3: heat compilation of just being, just not eating, just not
- 6:35Speaker 3: taking care of the body. And they almost passed out.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:38Speaker 3: And a lot of people don't know the remedy for
- 6:40Speaker 3: that is to take lukewarm water.
- 6:42Speaker 1: This is the part that I overheard, and I'm like, wait, what?
- 6:44Speaker 3: And you pour it on your private parts. Because that
- 6:48Speaker 3: is the central area of your core.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Nervous system.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yeah, on the core. And a lot of people don't know,
- 6:57Speaker 3: if somebody is overheating, do not give them ice cold water.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Do not get them ice cold water.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It'll shock their system or something, right?
- 7:04Speaker 1: But pour warm water on their junk.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but you pull the pants or the skirt or
- 7:10Speaker 3: the dress, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:12Speaker 1: This is the other part that I overheard about somebody
- 7:15Speaker 1: that we know going up to a stranger and lifting
- 7:18Speaker 1: up the hood, if you will.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Uh-huh. Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And pouring warm water.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Pouring warm water. Now. Now. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:26Speaker 1: Like someone's going to jail here, man.
- 7:29Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no. People ain't going to jail.
- 7:31Speaker 3: You just saved somebody's life. If they are going into,
- 7:35Speaker 3: because heat stroke can lead into a coma. It can
- 7:38Speaker 3: lead to brain damage. It can lead to death.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I think I've had heat stroke before because I got
- 7:45Speaker 4: many of the.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Side effects you just said.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Now, I always heard if you're overheating, to put water
- 7:53Speaker 4: on your wrist right here. Because it's one of your things,
- 7:57Speaker 4: or on the back of your neck, like a rag.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But you're saying it can't be, it shouldn't be cold.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it shouldn't be cold at all. Because, like, believe
- 8:05Speaker 3: it or not, I used to box. And you know
- 8:07Speaker 3: what I'm saying? And one time I was having difficulty
- 8:10Speaker 3: with this guy because he was a softball, and nobody
- 8:13Speaker 3: told me that. So I came back to the corner,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and I was like... And I was frustrated because I
- 8:17Speaker 3: couldn't hit him because he's a freaking softball.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And your corner man poured water on your junk. Cold water.
- 8:22Speaker 1: On your junk?
- 8:23Speaker 3: No, on my back, on the back of my neck.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And guess what he did?
- 8:26Speaker 2: It probably made you piss off enough to knock that
- 8:28Speaker 2: guy out.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah, but that part, it took my breath. It took
- 8:33Speaker 3: my breath. It was like... The coldness of the water.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And stuff like that.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So you were already overheating, working hard, and then that
- 8:40Speaker 1: caused you to labor additionally.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm like, boom.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Have you Googled this whole hot water on the junk?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Hello. Here we go.
- 8:48Speaker 4: And I said, overheating put water on genitals. It says, yes,
- 8:54Speaker 4: applying cool water or ice packs to the groin area
- 8:59Speaker 4: is an effective way to cool down during dangerous overheating.
- 9:03Speaker 3: But not hot water or warm water. It's supposed to
- 9:06Speaker 3: be warm water. Cool water, cold water. I mean, he
- 9:09Speaker 3: said packs. They said ice packs. Them say ice packs.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I didn't say it.
- 9:12Speaker 2: AI did.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Well, okay.
- 9:14Speaker 3: But AI is going to kill us in a couple
- 9:16Speaker 3: of years.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we talked about that earlier. Everything doesn't matter at
- 9:20Speaker 1: this point.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Listen, it says the groin creases.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I guess that's... This part.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 2: The groin creases where.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Your thighs meet your torso contain large superficial blood vessels.
- 9:35Speaker 4: I'm about to throw up because of who it was.
- 9:37Speaker 3: We said no names, dude. Meanwhile, they didn't say shit.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Wow.
- 9:45Speaker 2: All I said was, I'm about to throw up.
- 9:47Speaker 3: No way. Wow. Yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 2: It helps lower your internal core body.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Yes, it does. Uh-huh.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Believe it or not, I was a safety officer for
- 9:56Speaker 3: a couple of people. And I had went through the
- 9:58Speaker 3: courses and stuff. and you know what I'm saying? Like,
- 10:00Speaker 3: I got kind of edumacated.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Does this tie into it all? Because I've always thought
- 10:05Speaker 1: we heard that heat and stuff exits through the top
- 10:08Speaker 1: of your head, your hands, and your feet.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Yes, but see, like, that's an exit strategy. You know
- 10:13Speaker 3: what I'm saying? Like grounding. People take off their shoes
- 10:17Speaker 3: and walk barefoot and stuff like that. When I was
- 10:20Speaker 3: growing up, you know what I'm saying? Like, we went
- 10:22Speaker 3: bat feeding. We all did.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Boom, boom, boom.
- 10:24Speaker 3: But now, this generation now, they have Crocs or whatever
- 10:27Speaker 3: we call them things, rubber artificial soles that your body
- 10:31Speaker 3: can't touch the ground.
- 10:32Speaker 1: They never had the joy of jiffy feet.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 3: And never had the joy of stepping on glass and
- 10:37Speaker 3: cutting your feet open. Never had the stepping on a nail,
- 10:40Speaker 3: rusty nail.
- 10:40Speaker 1: That builds character.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yeah, beat it out.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You didn't.
- 10:45Speaker 4: When you stepped on glass, it didn't cut your feet.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Your feet were tough enough to deal with it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Because we had 7-Eleven feet, jiffy feet, whatever you come
- 10:53Speaker 4: up with.
- 10:53Speaker 3: With that Mountain Dew bottle, yahoo! You know what I'm saying?
- 10:57Speaker 3: That bottle cut deep. You had to pull that glass out.
- 11:00Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:01Speaker 3: You wrap it up with some turpentine. Or some kerosene.
- 11:04Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Like, it didn't go to
- 11:06Speaker 3: the hospital and stuff. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 11:08Speaker 3: you just held it and you dealt with it. Because
- 11:11Speaker 3: that's what you did. And you told your mom about it.
- 11:14Speaker 3: She get mad at you by bleeding. You don't burn
- 11:16Speaker 3: that blood in the kitchen. Boy, look at him.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And she chases you with the switch.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, extension cord, switch, bat, table leg, whatever.
- 11:26Speaker 2: We had a spoon at our house. It was a decoration.
- 11:30Speaker 4: I think we still have it, and part of it's
- 11:32Speaker 4: broken off from hitting the children.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Okay. The spoon is....
- 11:37Speaker 1: From hitting the children.
- 11:40Speaker 4: From here down to my groin where Paramore's later going
- 11:43Speaker 4: to pour warm water.
- 11:45Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. Taco, quick, go run around
- 11:49Speaker 1: the exterior of the building four or five times. Paramore,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you go get the cool water.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Paramore, follow him.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Okay, yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 4: So this spoon that was so big, Paramore, it was
- 12:00Speaker 4: a spoon and a.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Fork, and they hung on the wall for decoration. Man,
- 12:03Speaker 2: my mom grabbed that thing.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Bend over, you and that foul mouth of yours, and
- 12:09Speaker 4: I'd be going, shit, shit, shit.
- 12:13Speaker 2: And she'd just hold back. Bam!
- 12:15Speaker 1: When he'd go into his cussing fits, they do the
- 12:20Speaker 1: old wash your mouth out with soap, and he'd keep
- 12:22Speaker 1: cussing bubbles coming out of his mouth.
- 12:24Speaker 2: See what I'm saying?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Once again, people. In our families, black people, we didn't
- 12:32Speaker 3: do that right there. They sent us out to get
- 12:34Speaker 3: a switch so that they can beat us with the
- 12:38Speaker 3: switch that we got. And we come back with a
- 12:40Speaker 3: little thinning switch? Uh-uh.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 12:43Speaker 3: No, no, no, no. See, I got stinching card marks
- 12:47Speaker 3: on me. I got it on my back and stuff.
- 12:49Speaker 3: But I love my mom, and I did never, ever
- 12:51Speaker 3: call them people on her. Never, ever call them people
- 12:54Speaker 3: on her. Oh, DCF? Yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 1: You know who the enforcer was in my family?
- 12:58Speaker 3: Who?
- 12:58Speaker 1: My grandmother.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 13:00Speaker 1: My grandmother, we saw her all the time, and there was...
- 13:04Speaker 1: I had a brother and two sisters, and we had
- 13:08Speaker 1: cousins that matched up age-wise, so there was eight of us,
- 13:11Speaker 1: and we all lived fairly close proximity, so... All of
- 13:14Speaker 1: us spent a lot of time at my grandmother's house.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And all hell's breaking that loose when you have eight
- 13:20Speaker 1: cousins together just raising hell, drinking Mountain Dew out of
- 13:23Speaker 1: a glass bottle. It tasted so much better when it
- 13:27Speaker 1: had those, right?
- 13:28Speaker 3: Hello. Yes. Yes. No comment. No comment.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So grandma had her house, and then she also had
- 13:36Speaker 1: the shop. She had a beauty salon where all the
- 13:39Speaker 1: ladies would come over and get their hair done.
- 13:42Speaker 2: What was her name again?
- 13:43Speaker 1: Stella.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Stella, that's right.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Stella's Beauty Salon. And her enforcement tool of choice was
- 13:49Speaker 1: the hairbrush. Ooh. Get you whacked with the hairbrush.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Not the plastic one or the wooden one?
- 13:54Speaker 1: Either one, whichever. They get you the hairbrush.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Make a knuckle?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Well, no. She'd get you there. She'd get you on wherever.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Wherever, man.
- 14:05Speaker 3: First contact.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So, you know, a couple of whacks with that thing,
- 14:07Speaker 1: that'll straighten your attitude right up.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Man, dude, dude, uh-uh. You know what I'm saying? Like
- 14:14Speaker 3: my aunties and my grandmamas, you know, they had this rule.
- 14:17Speaker 3: If you didn't work, you didn't eat. So, you know
- 14:20Speaker 3: what I'm saying? Like one time, you know, me being me,
- 14:22Speaker 3: I tried them. And by the time that I got
- 14:24Speaker 3: off the floor and stuff, I found out that I
- 14:26Speaker 3: need to go out there and get them chicken eggs
- 14:28Speaker 3: over there. I need to let them hogs out there.
- 14:30Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? I need to watch Betsy,
- 14:32Speaker 3: the cow, take her little calves and stuff out. You
- 14:34Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? And brushed down the horses. So,
- 14:36Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying? By the time I came
- 14:38Speaker 3: back inside, though, I had a freaking hot, full biscuit. Oh,
- 14:43Speaker 3: my God. Grits and eggs.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And you were dying of hunger, too.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Hello, hello, hello.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Because you worked.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, but I had to chew with one side of
- 14:49Speaker 3: my mouth because the other side was swollen. You know
- 14:52Speaker 3: what I'm saying? But I appreciate you, though.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Well, I was swollen from not doing the work before.
- 14:56Speaker 2: It got a little.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I mean, they never hit us with the fist.
- 15:02Speaker 3: They always hit us with the open hand because I'm...
- 15:04Speaker 3: I'm thinking like if they would hit him with a fist,
- 15:06Speaker 3: half of us wouldn't be here.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, anyone who's watching and is being put off
- 15:13Speaker 1: by this, we're not advocating this. We're just sharing with you.
- 15:18Speaker 2: What it used to be.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Things were looked at a lot differently by most folks.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Hello?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Right across.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I mean, it was a time that yes, sir. No, sir. Yes, ma'am. No, ma'am.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Open the door. when speaking to, I mean, like, that
- 15:37Speaker 3: was the rule. I mean, like, we, you know, grown
- 15:40Speaker 3: folks talking, you just be quiet. You just sit there
- 15:44Speaker 3: and wait until they seen you. You on fire, you
- 15:46Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? Like, they'll smell you after a while.
- 15:48Speaker 3: They'll never turn around and put you out. You know
- 15:50Speaker 3: what I'm saying? But you just didn't jump up and say, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Not like kids now, but paramour.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was even like Pat saying in school I
- 16:01Speaker 4: went to Glenridge junior high and there was a teacher
- 16:04Speaker 4: there that kept an axe Handle, you know the big
- 16:08Speaker 4: axe handle he kept in the classroom and he'd walk
- 16:11Speaker 4: around with it in his hand as like, you know
- 16:14Speaker 4: a brace but also because he was using that axe
- 16:18Speaker 4: hand because if you were sleeping on your desk and
- 16:21Speaker 4: He was hauling off and whabam and hitting the desk.
- 16:25Speaker 4: And it would wake these people like they've never seen
- 16:28Speaker 4: in their life. That all worked until he hit a
- 16:31Speaker 4: kid's elbow by mistake.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Shattered his elbow. I don't even think he got fired
- 16:36Speaker 2: for it.
- 16:37Speaker 4: But shattered his elbow, but he was not allowed to
- 16:40Speaker 4: use the axe handle anymore.
- 16:41Speaker 3: That part. But, you see, like, I got paddles. I mean,
- 16:44Speaker 3: I got, oh, my God. I got tore up.
- 16:47Speaker 1: We all did.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I got to the point to... the principal knew me.
- 16:52Speaker 3: He knew me. He was like, come on. You know
- 16:55Speaker 3: what I'm saying? Like, five paddles, you know? And then
- 16:58Speaker 3: all of a sudden, integration started. You know what I'm saying?
- 17:03Speaker 3: And when integration started, the truth of the matter is, people,
- 17:07Speaker 3: the truth's the truth. You know, they wasn't going to
- 17:09Speaker 3: let a black principal hit a white child. And that
- 17:14Speaker 3: was a big mistake because then all of a sudden,
- 17:16Speaker 3: they started taking prayer out of school. They started taking
- 17:21Speaker 3: the flag out of school. And to this day, I
- 17:25Speaker 3: just don't see why. You know what I'm saying?
- 17:28Speaker 1: You know what? That type of stern punishment and strict
- 17:34Speaker 1: rules accomplished. The true shitheads were sifted out. Because they
- 17:43Speaker 1: didn't learn from any of that punishment. They didn't learn.
- 17:46Speaker 1: They were the ones who then went on and ended
- 17:48Speaker 1: up in juvie and then jail and permanently in jail
- 17:50Speaker 1: or dead.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And they were getting beat like that at home anyway.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Right. But the kids who would just occasionally screw up
- 17:58Speaker 1: and needed to be knocked back and on, one or
- 18:00Speaker 1: two times with that, normally there's no more problems.
- 18:03Speaker 3: There you go. There you go. But now you got
- 18:06Speaker 3: it so that they can use an excuse that, fabricated
- 18:10Speaker 3: and brought up by people that never ever experienced it
- 18:13Speaker 3: by the state, saying that, oh, you can't say this. Oh,
- 18:16Speaker 3: if your kid feel like Dave is a cat or
- 18:19Speaker 3: rat or something, then you have to treat him as such.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Well, we don't want to get in that whole can
- 18:25Speaker 1: of worms, but it's like, the word I think we're all,
- 18:28Speaker 1: it's a little overly sensitive, overly sensitive on a lot
- 18:33Speaker 1: of fronts.
- 18:35Speaker 4: You're over here saying overly sensitive. He's going to shot
- 18:37Speaker 4: in the head.
- 18:40Speaker 3: But anywho, I'm a boomer.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'm a boomer.
- 18:42Speaker 3: But, though, tomorrow is a very, very, very special day
- 18:46Speaker 3: for me because I was working at Winter Park Construction.
- 18:52Speaker 1: With 9-11, the attacks happened.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Yes, 9-11. And I was making a pick for– I
- 19:00Speaker 3: was making a pick for Mills Ave. I was making
- 19:02Speaker 3: a pick for Mills Ave. Getting his people together.
- 19:05Speaker 2: What is making a pick?
- 19:07Speaker 3: I was riding the forklift. Okay, got it. And I
- 19:12Speaker 3: was picking up his guy's tools and stuff, and I
- 19:16Speaker 3: was taking him to the building, Westgate. And Brad Doerr
- 19:21Speaker 3: from Cross and Plumber ran out the trailer, and he said, Oh,
- 19:26Speaker 3: my freaking God, a plane just flew into one of
- 19:30Speaker 3: the buildings. in New York. And I'm like, oh boy,
- 19:34Speaker 3: somebody finna die. You know what I'm saying? I'm saying like,
- 19:37Speaker 3: you know, maybe, you know what I'm saying? And then.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Did you have the... Because we all, who are old
- 19:43Speaker 1: enough to remember that morning, we all have our vivid,
- 19:46Speaker 1: clear memory of how it went down. Did you... Was
- 19:49Speaker 1: your first thought... oh, that had just been a horrible accident,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you know, with all the planes that fly around New
- 19:54Speaker 1: York City? I think most of us are like, oh,
- 19:57Speaker 1: that just... I guess a small private plane must have just,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you know, till the second. And then you found out
- 20:03Speaker 1: that it wasn't a small private plane in the first
- 20:05Speaker 1: one either. And it was like, holy crap.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah. And then... When the second one hit, we all stopped.
- 20:13Speaker 3: We all stopped. And then like about, I'd say about
- 20:16Speaker 3: 15 minutes later, we kept hearing the sound barrier break.
- 20:21Speaker 3: We kept hearing the sound barrier break. And for some
- 20:24Speaker 3: strange reason, I grabbed my thumb cocker. But just in case,
- 20:28Speaker 3: just in case, though, man, them Jets was, I mean,
- 20:31Speaker 3: them Jets was boogieing. I don't know where they was going,
- 20:34Speaker 3: but though you heard the boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 20:38Speaker 3: And they was going, they was going left and right.
- 20:41Speaker 3: And I'm thinking like they was shooting out from Miami
- 20:45Speaker 3: to Jacksonville or shooting out to Tampa. But whatever they
- 20:50Speaker 3: were going, they were going in a hurry.
- 20:52Speaker 1: You're talking about the fighter jets that were put up. Well,
- 20:56Speaker 1: if you recall, the president was in Florida at the time.
- 21:00Speaker 1: So they had to escort. Because no one knew what
- 21:06Speaker 1: the extent of this was. It was so unprecedented and
- 21:10Speaker 1: so flat-out scary once it was apparent that this wasn't
- 21:14Speaker 1: any kind of accident. You had no idea what was
- 21:17Speaker 1: going on. Then they take the unprecedented move of grounding
- 21:22Speaker 1: and landing every plane that's in the air. Yes.
- 21:25Speaker 3: To this day, I'm like, dude, how? I mean, there
- 21:31Speaker 3: was a couple of planes landing on State Road 44.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Like you're going to New Smyrna? Yeah. Yeah, there's a
- 21:38Speaker 3: couple of planes laying down there. They had to clear
- 21:40Speaker 3: out the whole thing.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Oh, smaller?
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It's just... First off, you said it earlier. It's hard
- 21:48Speaker 1: to believe it's been 25 years.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It's mind-numbing.
- 21:50Speaker 3: What?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, tomorrow's 25 years since then.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Weren't we just in Boston before that?
- 21:56Speaker 1: We were. We were. And it's so weird. Looking back...
- 22:05Speaker 1: There was a weird vibe going on with the cabbies,
- 22:09Speaker 1: if you recall.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yes, I do.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Because we realized that after all this stuff went down,
- 22:15Speaker 4: we said, man, I guess we were right about the cabbies.
- 22:20Speaker 1: For whatever reason, when we were in Boston for this
- 22:24Speaker 1: event that we were at just before 9-11– We were
- 22:29Speaker 1: there in August. We were at the end of August.
- 22:32Speaker 2: We were in the airport that they flew out of.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But as we were getting around, we were using cabs.
- 22:38Speaker 1: There was no Uber then. And all the cabbies, most
- 22:41Speaker 1: of them that we ended up with were of Middle
- 22:44Speaker 1: Eastern and did not speak any. But they were all like,
- 22:49Speaker 1: it was like they were all talking to each other
- 22:51Speaker 1: and we're like, something's weird here, but we were partying
- 22:58Speaker 1: the whole time we were there. Didn't think really twice
- 23:00Speaker 1: about it until after the fact, and then we connected.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Boston is like.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Boston is where... How many flew out of Boston? How
- 23:08Speaker 4: many of the terrorists flew.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Out of Boston?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Several.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I think like four of them.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Who knows who knew what and the extent of that.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It was just a... I hope to God... We never, ever,
- 23:23Speaker 1: ever have to go through anything remotely like that again.
- 23:26Speaker 3: You know, but the firefighters, the police officers, and some
- 23:31Speaker 3: civilians running into that freaking smoke.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Saving who they could.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Man, my ass off to you.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Ah, man, that's, yeah. I'm not tearing up, people, but, dude,
- 23:45Speaker 3: I mean, man, like, I had my thumb cocked. I
- 23:47Speaker 3: had my thumb cocked, so, you know. I know everybody
- 23:50Speaker 3: else had theirs, too.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Please define Thumb Cocker for those who.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Okay. A Thumb Cocker is a piece of steel. Oh.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Wholehearted steel that leaves no evidence. That means that the
- 24:02Speaker 3: shell stays in the revolver. It goes round and round
- 24:05Speaker 3: and round. And then you always leave one in the
- 24:08Speaker 3: chamber just in case you got one of them that
- 24:10Speaker 3: you missed. That right there, my friend, is a firearm.
- 24:13Speaker 3: In case you didn't know, Second Amendment. God bless America.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Tell them.
- 24:18Speaker 4: So it's a shell cocker because it's in a thumb
- 24:22Speaker 4: cocker because, sorry, I was thinking.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Because you have to cock it with your thumb before
- 24:26Speaker 3: you pull the trigger.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's what I was doing while you were
- 24:29Speaker 4: describing it to Pat.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and a lot of people are not coordinated enough
- 24:35Speaker 3: to realize that a thumb cocker, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:37Speaker 3: you have to cock it. So a lot of people,
- 24:39Speaker 3: that was like the safety.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Revolver.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Yes, sir. You know, back in the days, they're like gunslingers. Oh, no,
- 24:45Speaker 3: this is a thumb cocker, people.
- 24:48Speaker 4: But it was a real piece of steel instead of
- 24:50Speaker 4: a gun because then there's no serial numbers or anything
- 24:53Speaker 4: like that.
- 24:53Speaker 1: No, no, no. It's a gun. He's just using slang.
- 24:56Speaker 1: It's a gun. Yeah, that's what I said from the get-go.
- 24:59Speaker 3: You made it this big piece of machinery, and I'm
- 25:02Speaker 3: over here going like this.
- 25:03Speaker 2: It's a thumb cocker.
- 25:04Speaker 3: You pull the trigger back, and you shoot. See, people,
- 25:08Speaker 3: this is why he never watched Dirty Harry.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I watched it.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Okay, and how Clint used to talk about it. Do
- 25:15Speaker 3: you feel lucky, punk?
- 25:16Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 25:17Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 25:18Speaker 1: Make mine.
- 25:19Speaker 2: This is a.
- 25:19Speaker 3: 44 Magnum. Most powerful handgun. The most powerful handgun in
- 25:22Speaker 3: the world. Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Blow your head clean off.
- 25:26Speaker 3: You know what I'm talking about? Do you know how? Oh,
- 25:29Speaker 3: my God. Do you know that made it? And it
- 25:32Speaker 3: was a revolver, people. I mean, dude, how many people
- 25:37Speaker 3: went out there and like, the puppies, we call them snub-nosed. 44,
- 25:44Speaker 3: the puppies. You know what I'm saying? Like, they only
- 25:46Speaker 3: got a barrel about that much.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I've seen that.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Saturday Night Special, man.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. But Saturday Night Special was a. 22.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 1: 22. Blow up in your face.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Yeah. No, but a. 22 has killed more people than
- 25:59Speaker 3: any handgun.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Leonard Skinner will tell you that.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Hello.
- 26:02Speaker 1: A whole song about it.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Oh, my God. Yeah, yeah. And then they went back
- 26:06Speaker 3: and said, give me back my bullets. Right. Hello.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Appreciate them. Love them.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so. Oh, speaking of guns and stuff, and I know, God,
- 26:14Speaker 1: we really, anyway, that's what happens with this. We're running
- 26:16Speaker 1: out of time. I watched, I don't know how I
- 26:20Speaker 1: even found this. I saw just a blurb on a
- 26:23Speaker 1: movie called 13, just the number 13. And it listed
- 26:29Speaker 1: a bunch of well-known folks who were in this movie.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It was like an indie film from 2011. I think
- 26:36Speaker 1: Jason Statham. in it. Yeah. But it's, it's not, it's
- 26:41Speaker 1: not like his typical movie that he's in. He was in,
- 26:45Speaker 1: Michael Shannon was in it. Uh, uh, what's his name?
- 26:49Speaker 3: Um, uh, uh, what was it? A bank robbery?
- 26:54Speaker 1: No, no. I get to tell you what this is about.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It's just, it's really, it got horrible, horrible reviews. Um,
- 27:00Speaker 1: Mickey O'Rourke, is that? What was it? Mickey O'Rourke. Mickey
- 27:04Speaker 1: O'Rourke was in it. But anyway, and a lot of
- 27:06Speaker 1: familiar faces. The premise is it was underground Russian roulette games.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Like high stakes. Yes. 50 Cent was in it.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 2: That's what I'm looking at. So it was kind of like.
- 27:23Speaker 1: What year was this?
- 27:25Speaker 2: Almost like Fight Club, but with Russian roulette.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, basically what it was, they got these participants who
- 27:31Speaker 1: were destitute and just desperate to do anything for money,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and those were the participants, okay? And they knew and
- 27:39Speaker 1: agreed to what was going on with this, that if
- 27:42Speaker 1: you ended up surviving, you're going to get a whole
- 27:45Speaker 1: pile of money, like, you know, a lot of money.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And there was always a payout to the last man
- 27:50Speaker 1: standing in this. But and then the rich guys, all
- 27:55Speaker 1: this was their like their their blood sport. They bet
- 27:57Speaker 1: on it hundreds of thousands of dollars on whoever their
- 28:00Speaker 1: contestant was. And it starts off with, you know, they
- 28:03Speaker 1: all get in a circle. They all have a revolver
- 28:05Speaker 1: with one bullet.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 1: One bullet. And they all stand lined up behind each other,
- 28:09Speaker 1: gun to the head of the guy in front of you.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 28:12Speaker 1: And there's this spider web light that signals... Fire. Fire.
- 28:18Speaker 1: And you do that, and each time a few people drop,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and they clear them out. Then the next round, two
- 28:27Speaker 1: bullets in the gun.
- 28:29Speaker 3: No.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Then three bullets in the gun. Then it advances to
- 28:33Speaker 1: the last few for a duel where there's four bullets
- 28:37Speaker 1: in the gun.
- 28:38Speaker 2: May I guess Peter Rourke or whatever.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Mickey.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Mickey Rourke.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Mickey.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Mickey Rourke. He was one of the destitute ones.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:46Speaker 2: He had to be because look at that son of
- 28:48Speaker 2: a bitch. And think of what he looks like now, Pat.
- 28:51Speaker 2: He looked like that then.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 28:55Speaker 2: That is a mongoloid looking.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I mean, the black folks was in there.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Big old fat black guy was one of the ones
- 29:05Speaker 1: who got dropped.
- 29:07Speaker 3: In the first shot.
- 29:07Speaker 1: No, I think he went down the second round.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Wow.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And then they had to put in. It's a really
- 29:13Speaker 1: screwed up movie. It's super morbid.
- 29:18Speaker 3: When you said 13, I was thinking about the Viking picture.
- 29:24Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 29:25Speaker 1: This movie, though, was apparently a remake of some other movie.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I saw that it was available and it got horrible reviews,
- 29:34Speaker 1: but I saw who all was in it and I go,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I'm going to watch this just out of curiosity. It
- 29:37Speaker 1: was train wreck, man. You couldn't turn away from it.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, I could. I could. I could.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I could, too.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Taco, I know you would never watch something like this,
- 29:47Speaker 1: but the whole concept of it, it's just.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I can see now, if you gave them
- 29:54Speaker 3: a gun, and then you put them in the woods
- 29:56Speaker 3: and hunt them, Then, you know what I'm saying?
- 29:59Speaker 1: They've done movies like Hunger Games.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Yeah, uh-huh, yeah. Oh, the Hunger Games. I don't know. But,
- 30:08Speaker 3: you know, once again, Russian roulette is not a sport.
- 30:13Speaker 3: It's not a game. I know.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I know. It's just so disturbing on so many levels.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 30:19Speaker 1: That part. And boy, we went all over the place
- 30:22Speaker 1: this morning.
- 30:23Speaker 3: But we learned a lot though. We learned a lot.
- 30:25Speaker 3: We always try to educate the people.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I learned that my head can spin in a matter
- 30:31Speaker 2: of 30 minutes.
- 30:33Speaker 3: What the devil? No, you learned.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to going home and pouring warm water
- 30:37Speaker 1: on my junk. Yeah.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Can I do it for you?
- 30:40Speaker 3: No!
- 30:41Speaker 1: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think that's as good a place
- 30:43Speaker 1: as any to wrap up this week's Off the Air.
- 30:46Speaker 1: All right.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Now we're going to put the Epsom salt in the freaking, yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 3: I ain't going to say that.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Goodbye, everybody.
