- 0:03Speaker 1: Now, uh, I'm not sure what matches were on last night,
- 0:06Speaker 1: but Joakim swears he's on his way right now. I
- 0:09Speaker 1: was just waiting to see if we could still go
- 0:11Speaker 1: on together and say hi to you this Monday morning,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but it's OK. I'll kick things off first. Um, last,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I believe this is the final week of June holidays
- 0:20Speaker 1: for you, right? Not, not to be a Debbie Downer
- 0:21Speaker 1: or anything, but
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, uh, I think this could be the final week
- 0:25Speaker 1: of June holidays. I still believe that we are going
- 0:27Speaker 1: to kick off our school visits very soon, but during
- 0:31Speaker 1: this time of June holidays, different schools have been visiting us,
- 0:35Speaker 1: which has been really cute because it's like their, their
- 0:37Speaker 1: site quest or maybe their CCA or something like that,
- 0:41Speaker 1: or maybe it was just arranged by a parent or
- 0:44Speaker 1: student leader or teacher, right?
- 0:46Speaker 1: So, the holiday season is a time where the students
- 0:48Speaker 1: can come in in the morning. If not, it'll be,
- 0:51Speaker 1: it'll be a little bit difficult, right, to get them
- 0:52Speaker 1: in on a, on a weekday. So, please get your teachers,
- 0:56Speaker 1: get your, I mean, if you're awake right now, get
- 0:58Speaker 1: your teachers, get your parents to write in, let us know,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and Joakim and I would love, love, love, love, love
- 1:04Speaker 1: to be at your school.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Over the weekend though, I did bump into some of you,
- 1:09Speaker 1: even though we haven't been able to speak to many
- 1:11Speaker 1: of you during the June holidays because, yeah, who's who's
- 1:13Speaker 1: awake this early during the holidays, right? Just giving a
- 1:16Speaker 1: big shout out to them. Apparently, they've been active since
- 1:18Speaker 1: 2020 and they're from South Korea.
- 1:21Speaker 1: So they're a band. They're band. Yeah. I know it
- 1:24Speaker 1: sounds like um an individual artist, someone called Stacy with
- 1:28Speaker 1: a very interesting way of stylizing his or her name.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's a girl group. Yeah, it's a girl group. Anyway,
- 1:33Speaker 1: good morning. Welcome to the show. How was your weekend, Joe,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and um
- 1:37Speaker 1: Were there any matches last night you want to tell
- 1:39Speaker 1: us about or I was just laughing about it with
- 1:42Speaker 1: our listeners who were awake at that time. No, no, no,
- 1:45Speaker 1: we had some mouthwatering clashes. I think Netherlands against Sweden,
- 1:50Speaker 1: Netherlands beating them 5-1, and yesterday I was at City
- 1:54Speaker 1: Hall area in the afternoon. It was Tunisia against Japan.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Loads of Japanese people were over, I'm sure.
- 2:02Speaker 1: They were over at Capitol wearing their Japanese jerseys and
- 2:04Speaker 1: they were so happy and well done Japan. Nobody can
- 2:09Speaker 1: call them surprise packages anymore. They played so well and,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and I'm assuming they won by quite a high margin, right?
- 2:16Speaker 1: They beat Tunisia 4-0. Ouch. Yes, I, I actually thought
- 2:21Speaker 1: you said, I mean, not that I know anything about football,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but I thought you said Sweden might beat.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Um, Netherlands Netherlands or something like that. Like you said
- 2:29Speaker 1: something like they're doing really well this season. I don't
- 2:32Speaker 1: don't know what happened to them on Saturday, but all
- 2:35Speaker 1: I know is the game against Japan and Sweden, it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: gonna be mouthwatering. That's happening very soon. Is there another
- 2:41Speaker 1: way to describe a football match other than mouthwatering, or
- 2:44Speaker 1: why do they always say that? Tantalizing dramatic. I just
- 2:48Speaker 1: always wonder why you, or maybe it's just you, do
- 2:50Speaker 1: you always say mouthwatering? It's a mouthwatering clash. Yes, I mean,
- 2:54Speaker 1: what other ways to describe.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's a clash you cannot miss. OK, it's a clash
- 2:59Speaker 1: that's mouthwatering the other way around.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You know, I just get the updates from Joe and
- 3:06Speaker 1: sometimes I look up at the screen here in the
- 3:07Speaker 1: studio and it's there. By the way, it's Cape Verde
- 3:10Speaker 1: one Uruguay nailed currently. Uruguay is supposed to be good. Yes. Oh, OK,
- 3:16Speaker 1: thank you for filling me in.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Over the weekend, I will say it was rather interesting
- 3:21Speaker 1: for me. Did you do anything with your dad for
- 3:23Speaker 1: Father's Day? No, no, he was celebrating with his family. OK,
- 3:26Speaker 1: so you'll meet him soon, I'm assuming I'll take him
- 3:28Speaker 1: out for a meal soon enough. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So
- 3:30Speaker 1: just wanted to say, um, bumped into tons of people
- 3:33Speaker 1: celebrating Father's Day over the weekend. I was at Gardens
- 3:36Speaker 1: by the Bay on, uh, on Saturday, and then I
- 3:38Speaker 1: was in town on Sunday and bumped into a few,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm guessing our listeners who.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Hey, hey, happy Father's Day, and they were also having
- 3:45Speaker 1: their own celebrations, which is really, really sweet to see.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And you know, to all dads, hope you had a
- 3:50Speaker 1: wonderful weekend. Can I ask how's my favorite OG Hong
- 3:53Speaker 1: Kong gangster, he's good. He wore a colorful shirt yesterday,
- 3:59Speaker 1: which is very, which is very rare. Yeah, so it's,
- 4:02Speaker 1: so I was like, hey, nice shirt. You haven't worn
- 4:04Speaker 1: this in a long time. And he was like, yes,
- 4:07Speaker 1: special occasion, Father's Day.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You know, usually he's in black lah. So, so he
- 4:13Speaker 1: wore a pop of color which was very, very different
- 4:15Speaker 1: from his usual clothes. It was like coral. Coral is
- 4:20Speaker 1: like pink and orange combined together. OK, thank you for
- 4:23Speaker 1: the description. I see Joakim's face. I already know he
- 4:25Speaker 1: has no idea what coral is for a while, like
- 4:28Speaker 1: coral pink, you know, orangey pink. Yeah, OK, peach, some
- 4:32Speaker 1: may say it's peach colored. Yeah. Thank you.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'll just call it orange. I knew, I knew you
- 4:37Speaker 1: were gonna say that. But yeah, he had a great time. Uh, we, we,
- 4:40Speaker 1: we had a simple lunch together. Um, I got him a,
- 4:43Speaker 1: a joke gift, like a gag gift. It was, uh,
- 4:47Speaker 1: socks in the shape of hot dogs, so it looks.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It looks like I bought him like a takeaway hot dog.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Why are you torturing the poor man? Funny, funny when,
- 4:57Speaker 1: when I walked into the car, uh, I hitched a
- 4:59Speaker 1: ride from there and got into the car. I gave
- 5:00Speaker 1: it to him. I said, Hey, Dad, I got you
- 5:02Speaker 1: your Father's Day present. He wear hot dog. Then he
- 5:05Speaker 1: looked closely. Oh, its socks. Yes, not sure if he'll
- 5:09Speaker 1: ever wear it, but since he's in his colorful era,
- 5:11Speaker 1: maybe he might. So when we see the.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Do socks in a dump soon. Maybe, maybe you never know.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Let's see if he really wears it. He will. He's
- 5:20Speaker 1: your dad. He's supportive. He'll wear it. Or rather, he
- 5:23Speaker 1: has no choice. It is true. I would not be
- 5:25Speaker 1: surprised that people here in Singapore, they would start wearing
- 5:29Speaker 1: analog watches a little bit more or if your Apple
- 5:33Speaker 1: Watch or Samsung watch is able to have like an
- 5:35Speaker 1: analog face.
- 5:37Speaker 1: They might set it to that. Inspired by our MRT trains,
- 5:43Speaker 1: inspired by our MRT. OK, but FYI, um, the, the,
- 5:47Speaker 1: the funny thing is Joakim and I are very different
- 5:49Speaker 1: in many ways. But, um, when it comes to watches,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I realized that we're also very different. Like I will
- 5:55Speaker 1: always go with the traditional watch and Joakim always has
- 5:59Speaker 1: like a.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Smartwatch. Yes, yes, but I've always just, I don't know why, like,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I mean, I owned a couple of Apple Watches before,
- 6:05Speaker 1: but I always kind of gravitate towards like a regular watch.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I don't know. I just love how it looks like,
- 6:09Speaker 1: you know. I mean, for me, if it's a formal
- 6:11Speaker 1: night or a date night, I'll switch to my other watch.
- 6:16Speaker 1: This is the track my steps, check my circles, check
- 6:19Speaker 1: the calories that I burn every day. It just doesn't
- 6:21Speaker 1: fit my look, you know.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's just aesthetically, not me. We get it. Sports are
- 6:29Speaker 1: not your aesthetic. We get it, get it. I used
- 6:31Speaker 1: to customize my, um, my Apple Watch back then, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: it wasn't the Ultra because Ultra is too big. It's
- 6:37Speaker 1: way too big. It looks like I'm wearing a clock
- 6:39Speaker 1: on my wrist, to be honest, iPad, an iPad on my,
- 6:42Speaker 1: on my wrist, right? And I used to get, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you can replace the straps and stuff, so they've got
- 6:46Speaker 1: other designs for the straps, but somehow it just still
- 6:49Speaker 1: looks massive on my wrist.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So maybe because of MRT trains, analog watches could be
- 6:55Speaker 1: the hit thing again. Oh, interesting. OK, let me know.
- 6:58Speaker 1: If you just joined us earlier, I said analog watches
- 7:01Speaker 1: could be a hit here in Singapore again, or if
- 7:03Speaker 1: you're using the Apple Watch or Samsung watch or what,
- 7:06Speaker 1: if you have those analog watch faces, you might set
- 7:09Speaker 1: it to that. OK. Reason being MRT trains. What's what's
- 7:14Speaker 1: it related to?
- 7:16Speaker 1: Is it related to MRT trains? OK, so very soon,
- 7:19Speaker 1: Prince Edward Road, Keppel, and Kenterman, the stations will be open, OK,
- 7:24Speaker 1: thus completing the circle of the circle line. So it
- 7:28Speaker 1: will be called the clockwise loop and the anti-clockwise loop. OK.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I was at Promenade MRT yesterday. Now that station is
- 7:36Speaker 1: a bit confusing because if you're going to Dhoby Ghaut,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you must change trains. Oh, there's a lot of.
- 7:42Speaker 1: permutations. Yeah, OK, so you got to look at the
- 7:44Speaker 1: signboard very closely. So some of it will say clockwise
- 7:47Speaker 1: or anti-clockwise. Oh, it actually says that. Oh, so I
- 7:52Speaker 1: noticed a couple of people looking at their watches and
- 7:55Speaker 1: like using their fingers. This is clockwise, anti-clockwise. Ah, OK,
- 7:58Speaker 1: then they'll go to the correct train. It's funny that
- 8:00Speaker 1: you mentioned this. I, I know two people who don't
- 8:04Speaker 1: know how to read a watch or a clock, you know.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I actually know two people who don't, and you also
- 8:11Speaker 1: know them. I'll tell you who they are after I
- 8:13Speaker 1: turn my mic off. I don't, did you find out
- 8:17Speaker 1: the reason why they can't? Yeah, they just apparently just
- 8:20Speaker 1: never learned it. I don't know. I thought in school
- 8:22Speaker 1: they were like sort of teach you, right?
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so funny, so funny. That's what that's one of
- 8:28Speaker 1: the first things you learn to know exactly. So let's, I, OK,
- 8:32Speaker 1: if you're tuned in right now and you're familiar with
- 8:35Speaker 1: what's going on in school in P1 now, let us know.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Do they still teach you how to read a watch
- 8:41Speaker 1: or clock I'm sure the syllabus have changed, but some
- 8:44Speaker 1: things are still the same. I think that's like basic knowledge, right?
- 8:47Speaker 1: You got to know how to read a watch or clock,
- 8:49Speaker 1: how to be a spy like that.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Like, you know, when they say things like watch your
- 8:53Speaker 1: 6 or like your 2 o'clock, like how do you know?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Even me, I take some time to like, you know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: because I'm a terrible spy, to be fair, spies of
- 9:01Speaker 1: the of this day and age, I'm pretty sure they
- 9:04Speaker 1: use digital because it's quite accurate down to the second. No,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but you still say you're 2 o'clock.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Or like what's your 3 or your 6, you know
- 9:12Speaker 1: what I mean? Then how, then how you know? Like
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm like, oh wait, let me, let me look at
- 9:15Speaker 1: my watch first. I can imagine telling Sonia 11, she
- 9:19Speaker 1: use her hands to point. No, no, I'll be like,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I'll be like 1234. No, I'm kidding. I know how
- 9:24Speaker 1: to read a clock. You sure? Shut up. I know
- 9:27Speaker 1: 3 o'clock. I know down here.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So apparently this movie still in the news here in Singapore.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Dear you, I mean, last week we were sharing about
- 9:38Speaker 1: how people are saying, hey, how come only so limited
- 9:40Speaker 1: screenings of the Teochew version? I'd rather go to Malaysia
- 9:44Speaker 1: and watch it in full Teochew. But of course, to
- 9:46Speaker 1: be fair to Singapore and the people that make the rules,
- 9:49Speaker 1: it's in line to the government regulations when it comes
- 9:52Speaker 1: to dialects.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And all that being screened. But good news is, hey,
- 9:58Speaker 1: 8 additional screenings of the Teochew version will be made
- 10:02Speaker 1: available June 25th, 29th, and tickets go on sale today
- 10:07Speaker 1: at 3 p.m. I think that was the only way
- 10:10Speaker 1: to go for them, to be honest, like, and this
- 10:12Speaker 1: is a good problem if you look at it that way, right?
- 10:14Speaker 1: Like there's so much interest in a film like.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I, I feel like the film industry and the whole
- 10:21Speaker 1: concept of even going down to a cinema to watch
- 10:23Speaker 1: a film is, it scares me that one day that
- 10:26Speaker 1: may not even be a thing anymore, you know, with
- 10:28Speaker 1: streaming platforms and all that, and we've already seen a
- 10:31Speaker 1: lot of cinemas suffer. But this particular situation has gotten
- 10:35Speaker 1: so much attention that I'm not too sure when is
- 10:38Speaker 1: the next parliamentary sitting, but, uh, I want to give
- 10:41Speaker 1: a shout out to my MP Bishan Toa Payoh.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Member of parliament, Mr. Chai Yun Chou, he's gonna file
- 10:47Speaker 1: a question about this whole dialects and cultural thing. The
- 10:51Speaker 1: full question is available on his Instagram account. You can
- 10:54Speaker 1: go have a read and hopefully Mr. Speaker picks him
- 10:58Speaker 1: to voice his opinions and questions. I mean, if anything,
- 11:02Speaker 1: now more than ever, we need to retain our culture,
- 11:06Speaker 1: you know, and I think.
- 11:07Speaker 1: The the beauty about Singapore is that we have all
- 11:11Speaker 1: these dialects and languages. In fact, when tourists come here,
- 11:14Speaker 1: they visit, you know, and I meet some new people
- 11:16Speaker 1: and that, sometimes they're still quite surprised that we know
- 11:18Speaker 1: how to speak so many different things. So the running
- 11:20Speaker 1: joke for Sonia and I is it could be in Teochew, Kento, Hokkien,
- 11:24Speaker 1: or Mandarin, right? Both of us will still read the subtitles. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I may only understand a select
- 11:31Speaker 1: few words. You know what kind of words they are.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We can't say on radio, by the way.
- 11:37Speaker 1: As it stands, Uruguay 2, Cape Verde 2. I want
- 11:41Speaker 1: to report to our boss. There's a lot of screaming
- 11:43Speaker 1: going on in the studio. Hey, look, we love an
- 11:47Speaker 1: underdog story, OK? Cape Verde, well done. We do, and
- 11:50Speaker 1: you gave me the backstory, and you know, yeah, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: understand now. About 27 more minutes of play. But anyway,
- 11:55Speaker 1: let's go to our very first controversial topic for Monday, Sonia. OK,
- 12:02Speaker 1: give it to us. This one proudly brought to us
- 12:04Speaker 1: by whatever happened over the weekend. What juju is it?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Please help me out. OK, I was there. I was there. OK.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Just to be, just to be clear, it's an art installation.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's an art installation. And there's also this very cute
- 12:17Speaker 1: little plush called Juju and it comes in various different colors,
- 12:22Speaker 1: special for Singapore and the rarest one being yellow, and
- 12:26Speaker 1: it's served in blind boxes. OK, OK. Can I set
- 12:29Speaker 1: the premise here? Yes, go ahead. So we are in
- 12:32Speaker 1: an age where
- 12:34Speaker 1: Students, graduates, designers, animators, they are all booing AI. Like
- 12:42Speaker 1: we have the CEO of Google giving a speech at
- 12:45Speaker 1: the university and they all walked out. Some others are
- 12:48Speaker 1: saying about AI. Immediately the students all boo. So they,
- 12:51Speaker 1: they really am not they're they're not really embracing this
- 12:56Speaker 1: whole AI generation yet.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So the founder of this Juju doll that you have
- 13:01Speaker 1: on your back looks very cute lah. OK. It's cute.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's cute. Uh, the, I'm gonna be very objective here, OK? The, the,
- 13:08Speaker 1: the founder of it, CJ Henry, has said that she
- 13:10Speaker 1: has used AI, she's openly said it to design the
- 13:14Speaker 1: Juju doll, and she also intended for it to be
- 13:17Speaker 1: a bit of a commentary on the whole craze, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 1: So apparent and and of course people aren't happy. Loads
- 13:27Speaker 1: of videos are being made on Instagram and TikTok giving
- 13:31Speaker 1: their own takes and social commentary on it. Just wanna
- 13:34Speaker 1: say for a video done by user named Zelle on Instagram,
- 13:39Speaker 1: it actually attracted CJ Henry's comments, and I'm just paraphrasing here,
- 13:44Speaker 1: a bit snarky lah, the comment. Something about you better
- 13:47Speaker 1: be well wrapped before you fire on your high horse.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Hi, but if someone came at you for your craft,
- 13:54Speaker 1: wouldn't you be defensive also? Defensive, but maybe I would
- 13:58Speaker 1: have used better word choice of words and not the words, right, right.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I mean, OK, um, objectively speaking, once again, as I
- 14:07Speaker 1: paid for my ticket to go, you know, so I
- 14:09Speaker 1: just went there to experience it. Um, and by the way,
- 14:12Speaker 1: she's the same, the same creator of flower Market as
- 14:15Speaker 1: well from the previous weekend where people were like going
- 14:17Speaker 1: crazy trying to snatch up flowers and all that, right? OK.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Um, when I went there, I think the main point
- 14:24Speaker 1: was that it's called Juju World, right, which is an
- 14:27Speaker 1: immersive art installation. So you actually go there, there's like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: it's like a massive slide, it's like a bouncy castle situation.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It's just supposed to bring out, you know, that, that
- 14:36Speaker 1: inner child from you, and it's almost like a therapy
- 14:38Speaker 1: session in a way. It was super fun, like, and
- 14:41Speaker 1: I feel like if we went there,
- 14:43Speaker 1: Just to do something that brings you joy. And a
- 14:47Speaker 1: lot of kids were there too, a lot of families,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and it gave them many things to do over the weekends. Um,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I'd like to see it from that standpoint instead.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Not that I'm defending her at all, but I think
- 14:56Speaker 1: at the end of the day, she wasn't hiding the
- 14:58Speaker 1: fact that she did use AI in this process, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and she is an immersive artist. It's different, right? I
- 15:05Speaker 1: think it's still up for debate. It's definitely up for debate.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But isn't it worse if you use AI and you
- 15:11Speaker 1: don't tell people? Fair enough. You secretly use it, it,
- 15:14Speaker 1: it becomes a hit and a success, and you don't.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You just hide it from the world. But if there's anything, right,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I do find myself agreeing with CJ Henry on this whole,
- 15:25Speaker 1: it being a commentary on the labubu face, yeah, yeah, yeah, because, uh,
- 15:29Speaker 1: she's still making bank. She is, and you know what,
- 15:32Speaker 1: she's not making money from the scalpers, like the scalpers
- 15:34Speaker 1: who are, or the resellers who are buying it and
- 15:37Speaker 1: hoping to get a rare one and then selling it
- 15:39Speaker 1: for like I don't know how many hundreds of thousands
- 15:40Speaker 1: of dollars.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that money doesn't go to the artist. And videos
- 15:44Speaker 1: are showing Singaporeans and people from overseas alike rushing for
- 15:48Speaker 1: the flowers and rushing for the juju dolls. Uh, OK,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'd like to correct you on that. So there was
- 15:52Speaker 1: no rushing for the for Juju world because the way
- 15:56Speaker 1: that they did it, maybe due to the, the installation,
- 16:00Speaker 1: it is a bit different. Like they have to limit
- 16:02Speaker 1: the amount of people that are in there at once.
- 16:04Speaker 1: you're going to get like hundreds of people jumping around.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I think it's a safety issue as well. But people
- 16:09Speaker 1: still bought it. They still bought it, but there was no, um,
- 16:12Speaker 1: because I was there for the flower market one too.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And yes, that one was a lot more crowded because
- 16:16Speaker 1: I think despite being told that no walk-ins are accepted,
- 16:20Speaker 1: people still waited to see if they could get a walk-in,
- 16:23Speaker 1: you know what I mean? But for this one, it's
- 16:24Speaker 1: strictly no, you have to pay for entry as well.
- 16:27Speaker 1: So I think that.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Definitely got people just booking online and then showing up
- 16:31Speaker 1: to your exact slot. So I guess maybe if you're
- 16:34Speaker 1: CJ Henry, you might be thinking, OK, if you don't
- 16:38Speaker 1: like my AI designs, don't buy lah. If you like
- 16:40Speaker 1: them then.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But other artists, of course, are saying, hey, you know,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I painstakingly designed it by hand and all that. You
- 16:48Speaker 1: use AI and you got successful.
- 16:51Speaker 1: This is a very big conversation that we cannot even
- 16:54Speaker 1: begin to unpack. And, and just to clarify, we completely
- 16:58Speaker 1: understand the feelings towards AI because as artists ourselves, not
- 17:03Speaker 1: in that way, but artists in our own craft, you know, hosting,
- 17:06Speaker 1: creating videos, creating content and all that, even with our voices,
- 17:10Speaker 1: there are people out there who can recreate your voice
- 17:13Speaker 1: with AI. I mean, it is scary to us too.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You should read some of my work emails about AI.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Uh, that's a conversation for another day, man. Coming up
- 17:24Speaker 1: in just a little while, um, have you ever ordered something,
- 17:28Speaker 1: let's say in a restaurant or maybe even your, your
- 17:31Speaker 1: food delivery service came, you ordered something and when it arrived,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you were very disappointed with the portion size. Has this,
- 17:38Speaker 1: has this happened to you? Portion size, yes. Yeah, like, huh,
- 17:42Speaker 1: why so small? Why so little? OK, to be honest
- 17:44Speaker 1: with you, whenever I go to festivals and I order food, yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 1: but you can't.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I didn't expect much la. I mean, I just have
- 17:51Speaker 1: zero expectations sometimes. I mean, if you're paying $17 for food,
- 17:56Speaker 1: it better be a good portion, man. Uh, I, yeah, it's,
- 17:59Speaker 1: it's arguable. You never know what you're gonna get sometimes.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Maybe overseas festivals, their portions are bigger. I don't know. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Everything now is a blind box. Coming up in just
- 18:10Speaker 1: a bit, this is related to ice cream, and I
- 18:14Speaker 1: can completely understand the frustration here.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And it happened here in Singapore, by the way. The
- 18:20Speaker 1: question posed to Joakim earlier was, have you ever ordered something,
- 18:22Speaker 1: be it in person or online, or maybe like a
- 18:25Speaker 1: food delivery service order? When they arrived, you were not
- 18:28Speaker 1: so happy with the portion size. Oh, for sure. Well,
- 18:31Speaker 1: give me an example. OK, for example, you are at
- 18:34Speaker 1: a festival and you order a geon. The rice to
- 18:39Speaker 1: meat portion is 3 to 13 rice, 1 meat meat.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean clearing or for your rice. I actually don't
- 18:48Speaker 1: mind because I'm a carbie barbie, you know, as my
- 18:50Speaker 1: friends call me. Yeah, I mean, I, I love it,
- 18:53Speaker 1: and I guess during the festival you need the energy, right?
- 18:55Speaker 1: But I get why you will feel like a bit cheated. Yeah,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and for example, if you're going to a high-end restaurant
- 19:02Speaker 1: and you're paying so much to try their food and
- 19:05Speaker 1: they come in like those.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Very packaging small portions. OK, OK, those like gourmet style meals. Yeah, actually, this,
- 19:15Speaker 1: this just happened to us. Um, I was catching up
- 19:17Speaker 1: with some friends over the weekend and we went to
- 19:20Speaker 1: this place for brunch, really nice place, but I think
- 19:23Speaker 1: the portion.
- 19:23Speaker 1: The size was way too small for what they were
- 19:26Speaker 1: charging for, you know, brunch prices. Delicious, but portion could
- 19:30Speaker 1: be a bit bigger. Um, similar thing happened to this
- 19:33Speaker 1: guy who tried to get some ice cream over at
- 19:35Speaker 1: the fancy looking Fair price at Clark Quay, you know,
- 19:38Speaker 1: have you been there? It's the one opposite.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Capital, right? What used to be Capitol. Yes, Fairprice Finest. Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So if I'm not wrong, it's right opposite this K-star karaoke. Yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 1: if you're talking about the direction opposite. Yeah, I just
- 19:55Speaker 1: went there recently, quite fun. So
- 19:58Speaker 1: So, Fair Price Clark Quay, don't get me wrong, I
- 20:01Speaker 1: love it, you know, it's, it's actually such a great
- 20:03Speaker 1: experience and they have this whole like market hall vibe
- 20:05Speaker 1: as well where you can buy food and sit in
- 20:06Speaker 1: the middle. So you can buy stuff from like anywhere
- 20:09Speaker 1: and all the like food stations and then just eat
- 20:11Speaker 1: in the middle and open a bottle of wine and
- 20:13Speaker 1: stuff as well. It's pretty cool.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Um, but for this particular ice cream stand in Fair
- 20:18Speaker 1: Price Clark Quay, it's a pop-up, OK? So I don't
- 20:20Speaker 1: think this has the responsibility is not on Fair Price
- 20:23Speaker 1: Clark Key, so don't get me wrong on that. We
- 20:25Speaker 1: still love them. Unfortunately for this particular pop-up, um, they
- 20:29Speaker 1: were doing premium coconut ice cream, and a single scoop
- 20:33Speaker 1: is going for 290. They're saying that there's a discount
- 20:36Speaker 1: from 390, so we're doing, doing a discount, and the
- 20:39Speaker 1: other dessert bowls or other dishes, they've got other discounts
- 20:41Speaker 1: as well. So it sounds good, right? Sounds really good.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Unfortunately, this man who purchased a single scoop of the
- 20:48Speaker 1: premium coconut ice cream was very taken aback at the portion.
- 20:52Speaker 1: And when I show you the picture, I think you
- 20:54Speaker 1: will gasp as well. Can you lean over and take
- 20:56Speaker 1: a look right now? OK, this is what, this is
- 20:59Speaker 1: what he got.
- 21:02Speaker 1: That's what, that's what he got, OK, to which he said,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I think he was quite shocked, right? I mean, yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 1: we get that it's a promotional price, but does that
- 21:11Speaker 1: mean there's a discount on the portion also, or what? Like, hey,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I would rage, you know, shrinkflation or something. I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 1: the cup was barely half full, and of course he
- 21:20Speaker 1: was frustrated, took a photo, and I think rightfully so.
- 21:23Speaker 1: This is not, not cool, not cool, you know, and
- 21:26Speaker 1: for someone who has worked in a frozen yogurt shop before.
- 21:30Speaker 1: OK, I'm going to give you a bit of. I'm not,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I may not be, I may, I should not be
- 21:35Speaker 1: saying this, but since, since the company closed down a
- 21:38Speaker 1: long time ago, I'll just say it. Um, I used
- 21:41Speaker 1: to pride myself in the way that I serve the
- 21:44Speaker 1: frozen yogurt, OK. Um, you know, usually when you, when
- 21:48Speaker 1: you
- 21:48Speaker 1: squeeze out the yogurt, right? Sometimes when you order it,
- 21:50Speaker 1: do you realize that there's a hole in the middle,
- 21:52Speaker 1: like when you, when you eat your ice cream or
- 21:54Speaker 1: your frozen yogurt, that soft serve style, it's not like filled.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Like sometimes it's hollow in the middle. So I used
- 22:01Speaker 1: to like do this technique where I fill up the
- 22:03Speaker 1: entire thing in the middle. So it's like it's very
- 22:06Speaker 1: full and you get your money's worth. Actually, I got
- 22:08Speaker 1: scolded by the boss once. Why you give so much
- 22:11Speaker 1: frozen yogurt?
- 22:13Speaker 1: I said because it looks better firstly and then they
- 22:16Speaker 1: get more yogurt. He's like, that's not the point.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And if you see a cute guy, you give more, right?
- 22:24Speaker 1: I like, yeah, no need to say I give. You're that. Yes,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I give extra fruits. Then the guy said, I like
- 22:27Speaker 1: your style. I was like, thank you. I like your face.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Wow, I'm not sure if I said that it was
- 22:35Speaker 1: in my mind. By the way, if you want good
- 22:36Speaker 1: ice cream around the Clark Quay, walk on down to
- 22:40Speaker 1: Southridge Road, Dopa. Oh, nice, nice. OK, so on Saturday,
- 22:45Speaker 1: I was really, really quite disappointed.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Um, you know, I, I'm not by any means, I'm
- 22:50Speaker 1: not a pedal fanatic. I'm really not, OK, but I
- 22:53Speaker 1: do like it as a form of cardio and I
- 22:57Speaker 1: actually got two of my friends, one of my very
- 22:59Speaker 1: close friends and her husband to come give it a try.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Now her husband is quite, um, athletic, like he likes
- 23:05Speaker 1: picking up any sort of sports.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So I'm sure you teach him one time, he'll get
- 23:08Speaker 1: it already, you know, but for her, she's a bit
- 23:11Speaker 1: more like me lah, like no hand-eye coordination, ball sense,
- 23:14Speaker 1: you know, that kind of stuff. I got to really get, get,
- 23:17Speaker 1: have a few lessons or something. Is this legit or
- 23:19Speaker 1: you're bunching up with you? No, uh, no, it's legit. Yeah,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's legit. She, she admitted it herself.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So, they said, OK, we would love to play with
- 23:28Speaker 1: you and Germs, like, let's arrange a date, right? And
- 23:31Speaker 1: also backstory, he just moved, relocated to Singapore for her
- 23:37Speaker 1: quite recently. So I think it's cool to have, you know,
- 23:39Speaker 1: a bit more like friends and support system to, to
- 23:42Speaker 1: welcome him. Exactly. So we decided, OK, we booked um
- 23:47Speaker 1: Saturday morning, we're going to go play paddle together. And
- 23:49Speaker 1: there's some, there are some courts that are indoor and
- 23:52Speaker 1: some that are outdoor.
- 23:54Speaker 1: We booked an outdoor court, OK, because we really like
- 23:56Speaker 1: this particular place. And also due to the fact that
- 24:00Speaker 1: indoor courts are actually quite hard to book, especially at
- 24:02Speaker 1: the last minute. We did not realize that the weather
- 24:05Speaker 1: forecast was going to be so bad over the past
- 24:07Speaker 1: few weeks because we arranged this quite far in advance,
- 24:10Speaker 1: didn't realize it was going to be raining. I think
- 24:12Speaker 1: last week it was what, raining all the time in
- 24:14Speaker 1: the afternoon, right? So we're thinking, oh yeah, morning should
- 24:16Speaker 1: be OK. Morning should be OK, right? Lo and behold,
- 24:20Speaker 1: when we woke up on Saturday morning.
- 24:22Speaker 1: It was still sunny, but in an hour, it shifted.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Like suddenly the skies were gray, looked angry, and
- 24:31Speaker 1: Um, because the court that we booked is in town
- 24:33Speaker 1: as well, so we could roughly estimate, you know, like the,
- 24:37Speaker 1: the weather lah, and, uh, the person in charge actually
- 24:40Speaker 1: texted us saying like, hey guys, you know, in light
- 24:43Speaker 1: of inclement weather, would you like to cancel? If you
- 24:45Speaker 1: do let us know before your game starts, we will
- 24:48Speaker 1: not charge you for the court. OK, we'll refund you
- 24:50Speaker 1: and then you can just come back another time. Yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 1: that's nice of them to offer. So we, I was
- 24:55Speaker 1: like on the fence. I was like, ah, do you
- 24:56Speaker 1: think it will clear up? It looks like a passing cloud,
- 24:57Speaker 1: looks like a passing cloud.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But Germs was like, you know what, I'm gonna call it.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Let's just cancel. And true enough, it started pouring. It
- 25:03Speaker 1: was dumping, like, really dumping down cats and dogs and
- 25:08Speaker 1: uh canceled it. But guess what, man?
- 25:10Speaker 1: In half an hour's time, it stopped.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And it stopped just at the time that we're supposed
- 25:16Speaker 1: to start the game. So then we were just super sien, right?
- 25:19Speaker 1: I texted my friends. I said, How are you all
- 25:21Speaker 1: still want to meet now? They said, Yeah, let's meet for,
- 25:23Speaker 1: let's just meet for coffee or brunch or something. So
- 25:25Speaker 1: we met and it was just bright sunny day for
- 25:28Speaker 1: the rest of Saturday.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And we're just looking at the sky like why lah? Why?
- 25:32Speaker 1: Why you ruined our plans. Every single runner and running
- 25:36Speaker 1: group can relate to your pain. OK, yeah, this has
- 25:40Speaker 1: happened to you many times. So many times. I'm like, OK,
- 25:42Speaker 1: let's go for a run. Rains, and I'm like, OK lah,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I'll just take a rest day. 15 minutes later it
- 25:48Speaker 1: will clear up, but you already took off all your
- 25:50Speaker 1: gear and your your shoes.
- 25:52Speaker 1: So there are days where I'll painfully put it back
- 25:54Speaker 1: on and go and run, but be extra careful because
- 25:57Speaker 1: the ground will be very slippery, especially if you're running
- 26:01Speaker 1: at the Marina Bay area, the Jubilee Bridge. Oh, because
- 26:05Speaker 1: of the, the floor, the tiles, it's very slippery, be
- 26:09Speaker 1: extra careful. Yeah, so I mean the upside is that,
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, we assessed it and they said, OK, but
- 26:14Speaker 1: Because the rain was so heavy, right? Um, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: that the way that the paddle courts or even tennis
- 26:19Speaker 1: courts are like, you can't just like take a mop
- 26:22Speaker 1: and soak up the water. You can't, like you, you
- 26:24Speaker 1: actually need to let it dry up for a bit
- 26:26Speaker 1: and it could be dangerous for you also, like if
- 26:28Speaker 1: you're playing on a very wet court and your ball
- 26:31Speaker 1: is not really going to bounce that well on a
- 26:33Speaker 1: wet court a paddle court, right, is it a hard court?
- 26:37Speaker 1: There's sand. Yeah, there's, it's like sand mixed with, I
- 26:41Speaker 1: don't know what what you would call that, but it
- 26:43Speaker 1: looks like a normal court, but there's some sand packed
- 26:45Speaker 1: into it. I don't really know whether it's the same,
- 26:49Speaker 1: exactly the same as a tennis court. I'm not sure. Um,
- 26:51Speaker 1: but yeah, uh, so we wanted to open up phone lines, 669-11987.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Has it ever rained on your parade before? Like anything,
- 27:01Speaker 1: could be a birthday party, your, your wedding, your, I
- 27:05Speaker 1: don't know, bachelorette, you know, maybe even just as simple
- 27:07Speaker 1: as your intention to go for a run or play
- 27:10Speaker 1: a game. It's interesting you brought up birthdays and waiting
- 27:13Speaker 1: on your parade. I want to throw you back to
- 27:15Speaker 1: National Day Parade 2024. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It
- 27:18Speaker 1: was thundering. It was scary. Me, you, city, and.
- 27:22Speaker 1: We were like, what's gonna happen? And then as the
- 27:25Speaker 1: show went on, the rain stopped. But we did continue
- 27:28Speaker 1: hosting in the rain for quite some time, drizzle. Yes, yes.
- 27:31Speaker 1: But then it was quite crazy because it's all throughout
- 27:35Speaker 1: all the rehearsals, it never rained like that. Then on
- 27:38Speaker 1: the actual day, it's OK. It's always like this. We
- 27:41Speaker 1: still sang Fried Rice Paradise. We still went ahead. By
- 27:44Speaker 1: then it was, it wasn't raining anymore. Yeah. But anyway,
- 27:47Speaker 1: opening up phone lines right now.
- 27:48Speaker 1: 669-11987 or drop us a message 90050987. Has it ever
- 27:55Speaker 1: rained on an occasion of yours before? Could be a birthday,
- 27:57Speaker 1: it could be a party, whatever. It could be as
- 27:59Speaker 1: simple as a jog or a run or a game
- 28:01Speaker 1: that you wanted to go for. If we do like
- 28:04Speaker 1: your answer, what we have for you is a pair
- 28:06Speaker 1: of passes to the Glow Festival weekend. It's worth $199.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I really pray that one no rain.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, OK, over at Palawan Green, we're gonna
- 28:17Speaker 1: catch people like Jason Derulo and Alessia Cara who will
- 28:21Speaker 1: be in town. Alessia Cara doesn't work that way. OK,
- 28:24Speaker 1: never mind. She'll come up with her own jingle next time,
- 28:27Speaker 1: but plenty more to look forward to, of course, with
- 28:30Speaker 1: Glow Festival weekend passes. This is worth almost $200. Give
- 28:34Speaker 1: us a call right now. 669-11987. Has the weather ever
- 28:38Speaker 1: ruined your plans?
- 28:40Speaker 1: just like mine on Saturday. How funny it is that
- 28:43Speaker 1: we're talking about whether it's ever rained on your parade before.
- 28:46Speaker 1: It could be anything. It could be a birthday. It
- 28:48Speaker 1: could be a surprise anniversary dinner that was outdoors, a wedding,
- 28:52Speaker 1: or in my case, a paddle game. I was really
- 28:55Speaker 1: looking forward to because I wanted to introduce my friends
- 28:57Speaker 1: to it. The tragedy. Yeah, on Saturday. No, it's just
- 29:00Speaker 1: that when you have a plan for the day, you're
- 29:04Speaker 1: like just really looking forward to.
- 29:05Speaker 1: To it going the way that you want it to go,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and then they have to cancel it and improvise. I mean,
- 29:10Speaker 1: it was still a fun day. It's just that I
- 29:11Speaker 1: was like, ah, I wanted to get a workout in,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you know. It's been a while since I've been one,
- 29:16Speaker 1: but sometimes, you know, when they have Shakespeare in the
- 29:17Speaker 1: park here in Singapore, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I sometimes wonder what happens if it rains heavily. Well,
- 29:23Speaker 1: there were occasions at some music festivals here in Singapore,
- 29:26Speaker 1: it started raining and pouring like crazy. If they can
- 29:29Speaker 1: still take it or if they can still
- 29:31Speaker 1: Um, verify that it's safe to carry on, they will
- 29:34Speaker 1: still carry on, which can be quite an experience, but
- 29:37Speaker 1: we want to hit the messages first. say good morning
- 29:40Speaker 1: to Afik. Afik says, hey, Sojo, yes, the ruined my
- 29:45Speaker 1: proposal plans at Marina Barrage. No, wait, I've actually seen
- 29:50Speaker 1: a lot of people plan proposals at East Coast Park
- 29:53Speaker 1: and Marina and Marina Barrage. Marina Barrage because if you
- 29:56Speaker 1: get on one knee and
- 29:58Speaker 1: At the correct setting, you have a wonderful Singapore skyline
- 30:02Speaker 1: against the sunrise and the sunset. Yeah, yeah. Um, there was,
- 30:07Speaker 1: there was this one time, not too long ago, I
- 30:08Speaker 1: think it was just a few months back actually, I
- 30:10Speaker 1: was taking a walk at East Coast Park, right? So
- 30:12Speaker 1: I was walking around. I saw some people setting up
- 30:15Speaker 1: what looked to be a proposal, like some of the, the,
- 30:18Speaker 1: the girls, they were setting it up with one dude, right?
- 30:22Speaker 1: And just while they were doing that, it started to
- 30:25Speaker 1: get very overcast. It was gray, the skies were looking
- 30:29Speaker 1: a little bit angry, the wind was whipping around looking
- 30:31Speaker 1: quite strong, so they looked very worried and I, I
- 30:33Speaker 1: always wondered what happened to their proposal. One saying hello
- 30:37Speaker 1: to Sherry as well on WhatsApp saying, hey, Sojo, it's
- 30:40Speaker 1: a first world problem.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Problem, but the rain ruining my flight, flight delay. I
- 30:44Speaker 1: missed my connecting flight back to Singapore from Dubai a
- 30:48Speaker 1: long time ago. Yikes. Uh, yikes is right. Um, one
- 30:52Speaker 1: more message coming through here from Ed. Unfortunately, all the
- 30:55Speaker 1: time during major exercises in army when we're hoping for
- 30:58Speaker 1: one storm, it never happens.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I'm sure you can relate on that. I'm sure you
- 31:04Speaker 1: can relate. Yeah, once in a while we know it's
- 31:06Speaker 1: gonna be a very tough day. We're just hoping rain
- 31:12Speaker 1: or if it's really hot and we're carrying our field
- 31:14Speaker 1: packs and all that, our FBVs, we really hope that
- 31:16Speaker 1: it rains just to cool us down a bit. I
- 31:18Speaker 1: feel like the more you try and manifest that, the
- 31:20Speaker 1: more it's not gonna happen, it doesn't work that way.
- 31:22Speaker 1: 669-11987 or you can keep sending us a message on
- 31:26Speaker 1: WhatsApp 90050987. Has it ever rained on your parade before?
- 31:32Speaker 1: It could be anything, a birthday, a wedding, a surprise,
- 31:36Speaker 1: maybe your workout that you wanted to go so badly
- 31:38Speaker 1: for an outdoor event. Let us know. In exchange, another
- 31:42Speaker 1: outdoor event. We're quite confident should be fine. Glow Festival
- 31:46Speaker 1: returns to Singapore again. Whoever's organizing it better make sure
- 31:49Speaker 1: you plant the chili.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And the onions properly. Get the right person to plant them.
- 31:53Speaker 1: That's what we meant. Going back to our messages before
- 31:55Speaker 1: we head to Diana, who's hanging on the phone lines.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Has it rained on your parade before? Has it ruined
- 32:02Speaker 1: anything all thanks to the weather? Yeah, I mean, it
- 32:04Speaker 1: could be anything at all, a surprise party, your plans,
- 32:07Speaker 1: alfresco dinner, a date, whatever, right? Saying hello to Mark,
- 32:11Speaker 1: who says, morning guys. As a wedding and family photographer,
- 32:15Speaker 1: also one of your wedding photographers in the evening, Sonia.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yes, hi Marklin. Hey Mark, outdoor shoots can be a
- 32:21Speaker 1: headache at times. I've learned the hard way to never
- 32:25Speaker 1: do it again after both my cameras stopped working when
- 32:28Speaker 1: we collectively decided to bite the bullet to continue the
- 32:31Speaker 1: pre-wedding shoot in the rain. The couple was kind enough
- 32:35Speaker 1: to offer 50% of compensation, but of course, I did
- 32:38Speaker 1: not take it. Yeah, but this is so tough and unpredictable, right? And, uh,
- 32:43Speaker 1: unfortunately when it comes to equipment and all that.
- 32:46Speaker 1: People pour a lot of savings into having good equipment,
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, like you can imagine how hard it is, right?
- 32:51Speaker 1: So we've got Diana on the line. What, what happened, Diana?
- 32:54Speaker 2: I
- 32:54Speaker 2: think, uh, we were heading out. I was on a
- 32:56Speaker 2: date with my then boyfriend, now husband, uh, and then
- 32:59Speaker 2: we were on the way there and the clouds were
- 33:01Speaker 2: looking black. I didn't know anything about the surprise party yet.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So when I reached the place, it started like drizzling
- 33:07Speaker 2: a little, little bit. I walked into the hotel, my
- 33:09Speaker 2: boyfriend brought me there, and then, uh, we, we walked
- 33:13Speaker 2: down the stairs because when we reached the ground level,
- 33:15Speaker 2: it was actually a level, level 2 of the hotel.
- 33:17Speaker 2: So when I reached the place, we had to walk
- 33:19Speaker 2: down a spiral staircase and then uh I saw like,
- 33:23Speaker 2: I saw like there were people there and they were
- 33:25Speaker 2: like people chattering, started pouring and then after that I,
- 33:28Speaker 2: I looked at everyone and then I realized it was
- 33:30Speaker 2: my proposal.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it was your proposal like a surprise proposal.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yes, correct, with everyone because I did mention to my
- 33:38Speaker 2: boyfriend before that I would like my, my, my really,
- 33:41Speaker 2: really close friends and my.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Family to be there. So he planned everything and then
- 33:45Speaker 2: uh it was pouring. So I think maybe the sky
- 33:48Speaker 2: was touched by by by this action as well.
- 33:54Speaker 1: This one takes a deeper meaning to the next level. No,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I'm guessing all the photographs and all the pictures were
- 34:00Speaker 1: of dark clouds raining. Were you OK?
- 34:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I was OK. I was. The floor was the
- 34:06Speaker 2: floor was wet because the setting was.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Uh, it was decorated by my friends and all, and then, uh,
- 34:10Speaker 2: it was like an outdoor decoration and then the floor,
- 34:13Speaker 2: the grass, all that were a bit wet. Yeah, but
- 34:17Speaker 2: lucky my friends were all, they didn't mind the whole,
- 34:19Speaker 2: the whole situation.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You know, it's some things just can't be controlled. Like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: look at my own wedding day, for example, if you
- 34:26Speaker 1: remember joking, it was pouring. It was pouring, and I
- 34:29Speaker 1: think one of the things they were concerned about is like, oh,
- 34:31Speaker 1: how are we going to take.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Catch like a GoPro on the car or like take
- 34:34Speaker 1: videos of the car convoy, blah blah blah, but somehow
- 34:37Speaker 1: it worked out and the rain actually added a touch
- 34:40Speaker 1: of something special, you know, so no regrets, no regrets. Diana,
- 34:44Speaker 1: on your actual day of the wedding, everything was OK. Yeah,
- 34:47Speaker 1: the weather was good.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Everything was perfect. Yeah. OK.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing the story with us, Diana.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Thank you. Have a nice day.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Let us know. Is it raining where you are right now?
- 35:02Speaker 1: Is it an exceptionally difficult morning to get up to
- 35:05Speaker 1: and force yourself to go to work or the gym
- 35:07Speaker 1: or I don't know if you have any school activities
- 35:09Speaker 1: at all. Let us know, but we are talking about
- 35:11Speaker 1: how the rain can ruin your plans, just like how
- 35:14Speaker 1: it happened to me on Saturday itself when my paddle
- 35:17Speaker 1: game got rained out on, and we were very disappointed
- 35:19Speaker 1: because my friend and her husband really wanted to learn
- 35:22Speaker 1: how to play. So it kind of like ruined our
- 35:26Speaker 1: Saturday morning.
- 35:27Speaker 1: We had to change plans. So yeah. I want to
- 35:29Speaker 1: say good morning to Siva on WhatsApp 90050987 saying, hey, Sojo,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I was super against having a family barbecue at East
- 35:38Speaker 1: Coast Park. Like recently or ever. I kept saying, what
- 35:44Speaker 1: if it rains? What if it rains? Throwback to two
- 35:48Speaker 1: Saturdays ago. Oh no, it actually rained. We had to
- 35:52Speaker 1: cancel the barbecue, but we cooked the food at home instead.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but the vibe's not there, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 1: it's not, yeah, like the seaside, the breeze, the trees, yeah,
- 36:03Speaker 1: the sand, exactly. Yeah, it's a different, it hits different.
- 36:07Speaker 1: But unfortunately, we live in a tropical country, this could
- 36:10Speaker 1: happen at any time.
- 36:11Speaker 1: But I can understand how painful that is. Like you
- 36:14Speaker 1: got to transport all the food back to your house, yeah.
- 36:17Speaker 1: But what I'm really surprised about is they kept saying, oh,
- 36:20Speaker 1: because El Nino is in action right now, it's gonna
- 36:22Speaker 1: get a lot hotter in Singapore. Thankfully, the rain has
- 36:25Speaker 1: cooled us down a bit, but on Saturday it was scorching.
- 36:29Speaker 1: It was scorching after it rained. Yes, I, yes, OK, can, can.
- 36:35Speaker 1: We still got time for a few more of your messages. 90050987.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Have you ever tried to plan something outdoors and it
- 36:43Speaker 1: just rained out on you? Let us know how that
- 36:46Speaker 1: ruined your plans. 669-11987 or drop us a message, 90050987.
- 36:52Speaker 1: A pair of tickets to Glow Festival for the week.
- 36:55Speaker 1: It's called Glow Festival Weekend Passes. We got one more
- 36:57Speaker 1: coming in from Jolene on WhatsApp. Hello, Jolene.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Morning, Sonia and Joakim heard one message earlier on the
- 37:03Speaker 1: wedding shoot, and I thought it's quite relatable as well
- 37:06Speaker 1: because it rained on my overseas pre-wedding shoot in Kyoto.
- 37:12Speaker 1: In Kyoto. Wow. It started raining before our slot started,
- 37:15Speaker 1: and we still took 30 minutes umbrella walk to our
- 37:18Speaker 1: first location while I was in heels. The window was
- 37:21Speaker 1: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the moment it ended,
- 37:23Speaker 1: the rain stopped. Oh my God. My partner and I
- 37:26Speaker 1: had so much fun though, the photos turned out amazing.
- 37:28Speaker 1: We could see droplets of rain in our photos. The
- 37:31Speaker 1: umbrella was a great prop while the rain was an
- 37:33Speaker 1: unpaid actor. You see, you see, sometimes you just got
- 37:36Speaker 1: to take that attitude. Don't see it as like, oh,
- 37:38Speaker 1: it ruined as long as it didn't storm out, you know,
- 37:42Speaker 1: like to the point where they couldn't take the photos.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And let's just say it's a light drizzle. Yeah, it's
- 37:47Speaker 1: quite charming, I would say. After that, hopefully there could
- 37:51Speaker 1: be a chance of a rainbow, but nowadays AI, the
- 37:54Speaker 1: rainbow Inn also can.
- 37:57Speaker 1: If you wanna, if you want, I'll take it as
- 37:59Speaker 1: a good omen if it really appears. Anyway, what's coming
- 38:02Speaker 1: in the way of the winner, it's a very nice
- 38:05Speaker 1: glow festival experience worth almost $200. That's right. So we'll
- 38:10Speaker 1: reveal who the winner is today in just a couple
- 38:13Speaker 1: of minutes. Only one person can walk away with a
- 38:16Speaker 1: prize here today.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And uh this is gonna be weekend passes to GLOW Festival.
- 38:21Speaker 1: We want you there 17th, 18th, and 19th July, where
- 38:26Speaker 1: people like Jason Derilo, Alessia Cara, Korean indie band Huo,
- 38:30Speaker 1: and if you're into the fitness world, these names would
- 38:34Speaker 1: definitely be celebrities to you, Joe Wicks, Chantelle Duncan, and
- 38:38Speaker 1: Emmy Wong. So it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Fingers crossed, it has great weather during that weekend. Um,
- 38:44Speaker 1: speaking of which, just squeezing in one last one, Seth.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Speaking of today's topic, I'm on a job now and
- 38:49Speaker 1: it's about to rain. Help. OK, good morning, guys. Let
- 38:52Speaker 1: me check my favorite website, weather.gov.sg. Looking at the rain clouds, I,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I cross my fingers for you. Yeah, crossing all fingers
- 39:04Speaker 1: for you. Yeah, the storm clouds are blowing towards central Singapore.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I see that it looks like gonna be a very
- 39:09Speaker 1: gray day, but congratulations in order for Diana. Congratulations, Diana.
- 39:15Speaker 1: You're heading.
- 39:16Speaker 1: It's for Globe Festival and you get a pair of
- 39:18Speaker 1: tickets that are worth almost $200.
- 39:21Speaker 1: OK, that's not. That's not Jason Gruo. OK. The and
- 39:27Speaker 1: Khaled East Side, best side right here on 987.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station. OK. For the whole
- 39:37Speaker 1: period of our friendship, Sonia, that I've known you, I'm
- 39:39Speaker 1: scared to ask, what's the question? For almost 16 years now. OK.
- 39:44Speaker 1: We've partied together many times, right? Yes. And, and you've
- 39:48Speaker 1: always been attached to different people.
- 39:51Speaker 1: OK, hey, don't make me sound like that. No, no,
- 39:53Speaker 1: I say, OK, I've dated different people like back to back. Hello,
- 39:57Speaker 1: 16 years, you better be with someone different before you
- 39:59Speaker 1: marry Jeremy and you realize he's the one for you, right? Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but I'm very happy that this has not happened to
- 40:06Speaker 1: me before.
- 40:07Speaker 1: There are a couple of times where, yes, both of us,
- 40:09Speaker 1: we walked out the club together, a little bit happy,
- 40:12Speaker 1: you know, stumbling here and there, and sometimes I might
- 40:15Speaker 1: leave you in the hands of your boyfriend back then
- 40:17Speaker 1: or whatsoever. I'm very happy that your boyfriend or even
- 40:22Speaker 1: Jeremy Sung did not assault me thinking that I was
- 40:25Speaker 1: hitting on you.
- 40:27Speaker 1: No, but they wouldn't because they already know of our
- 40:29Speaker 1: friendship and our working partnership, so it's different. You're not
- 40:32Speaker 1: a stranger to them. The reason why I say this
- 40:35Speaker 1: is because a Singaporean man broke a stranger's nose, thinking
- 40:40Speaker 1: that he's hitting on the drunk wife. Oh no. Oh no.
- 40:44Speaker 1: He got 8 weeks jail. 8 weeks, yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Was he drunk? But the story is the wife went
- 40:50Speaker 1: partying with some of her girlfriends, right? So one of the,
- 40:54Speaker 1: the victim was the boyfriend of one of the girlfriends
- 40:57Speaker 1: that were there. Oh no, so he didn't know the context.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So the girlfriend said, Hey, uh, my friend who's the wife,
- 41:04Speaker 1: a bit drunk, you said. So the boyfriend was like
- 41:06Speaker 1: lifting her up and walking with her. The husband saw,
- 41:10Speaker 1: not happy, go and break the nose. My gosh, help me.
- 41:14Speaker 1: He didn't know the context.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that that's painful. That must be painful.
- 41:21Speaker 1: So that means the guy pressed charges. Yes, the police
- 41:24Speaker 1: was called after a headbutt that fractured the nose. Lord, OK.
- 41:29Speaker 1: So yes, to all my bros out there, before you
- 41:31Speaker 1: help the lady out, make sure you establish the context first.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Text the husband or boyfriend saying, I am only helping
- 41:37Speaker 1: her out of the club. You come and take her home. Actually,
- 41:40Speaker 1: maybe her friend should have, um, texted us. I don't know.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, look, there have been moments
- 41:45Speaker 1: where my partner has had to help my.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Friends out or something, right? Like I, I do remember
- 41:49Speaker 1: like this, this was back then, uh, I was dating
- 41:52Speaker 1: someone else and one of my friends, she was really, really,
- 41:55Speaker 1: she was really wasted, like in the toilet. I couldn't
- 41:57Speaker 1: get her out of the toilet, it's public toilet, right?
- 42:00Speaker 1: So firstly I asked permission. I said to all the
- 42:02Speaker 1: ladies in this toilet, is it, OK, this guy, like
- 42:04Speaker 1: my boyfriend back then, is gonna come in and help
- 42:07Speaker 1: carry my friend out because I can't do it on
- 42:08Speaker 1: my own. They said, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, of course.
- 42:11Speaker 1: He comes in, he's, he had to like haul her
- 42:13Speaker 1: up on his shoulder to drag her out of the toilet, right?
- 42:17Speaker 1: So in that sense, I mean, you know, we're just
- 42:19Speaker 1: helping each other out, but to an outsider, if you
- 42:22Speaker 1: don't know the context, maybe it might look like, oh,
- 42:24Speaker 1: is he with that girl or like what's going on?
- 42:26Speaker 1: Is he taking advantage of that girl? Like, you know,
- 42:28Speaker 1: many things can be taken out of context. Must call
- 42:30Speaker 1: the police.
- 42:32Speaker 1: That's the thing, right? So, um, I hope that guy's
- 42:35Speaker 1: nose recovers very soon, and at the end, the moral
- 42:38Speaker 1: of the story is maybe we should hold off on
- 42:40Speaker 1: the reaction first. Find out the context of the story first.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It's been a very long time since I heard the phrase, hey,
- 42:46Speaker 1: why you touch my girl?
- 42:49Speaker 1: A common phrase heard at Zuk Jakim or stairs that
- 42:56Speaker 1: I think it's more stairs I've never said that ever. Really? Yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: I'm a really composed classy individual.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Ah jokes. Some live updates as it stands. New Zealand one.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Mo Salah's Egypt Kosong. Oh no, really? Yeah, you sure
- 43:14Speaker 1: it's not Salah.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Mhm
- 43:17Speaker 1: I've been waiting so long to make that joke. But
- 43:20Speaker 1: as it stands, if New Zealand wins, they top the group. Wow, hoo.
- 43:24Speaker 1: I am surprised. I mean, are they not supposed to
- 43:27Speaker 1: be like, are they underdogs? I mean, in a, in
- 43:30Speaker 1: a group with, was it Belgium? Yeah, in a group
- 43:33Speaker 1: with Belgium, you expect Belgium to be topping the group,
- 43:37Speaker 1: but no. Maybe this is the year of underdogs. I mean,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. You could be right. Yeah. Anyway,
- 43:42Speaker 1: coming up in just a bit, some news, but this
- 43:44Speaker 1: is a very interesting discussion online, OK.
- 43:47Speaker 1: That I, I saw quite a number of people that
- 43:49Speaker 1: I follow share reshare on IGS and also just have
- 43:53Speaker 1: their two cents in. You know, ever since Yakub announced
- 43:57Speaker 1: that orange flavor is gonna go away, for the orange flavor.
- 44:01Speaker 1: In fact, you were away when this whole thing blew
- 44:04Speaker 1: up on social media and I brought it in as
- 44:06Speaker 1: a topic as well.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Um, people have started noticing aside from orange yaku, there
- 44:11Speaker 1: were other food items that have slowly disappeared over the
- 44:16Speaker 1: years as well. And when I name some of them,
- 44:18Speaker 1: it will bring back memories for you, OK? So I'll
- 44:20Speaker 1: give you a little list, all thanks to our friends
- 44:22Speaker 1: from CNA and 8 Days of 6 discontinued food or
- 44:26Speaker 1: beverage items, just like how.
- 44:28Speaker 1: We are mourning the loss of orange yakut that have
- 44:30Speaker 1: slowly disappeared in Singapore over the years, and you see
- 44:33Speaker 1: which one you have had an attachment to before. Time
- 44:36Speaker 1: for some food news, but you know, this is more
- 44:38Speaker 1: of like a nostalgic type of food news because on
- 44:42Speaker 1: the back of Yaku discontinuing their orange flavor, which quite
- 44:46Speaker 1: a number of people are like, justice for orange. Come on.
- 44:49Speaker 1: But on the other flip side, some people are like,
- 44:51Speaker 1: ah yeah, we didn't like orange anyway. OK, so like
- 44:54Speaker 1: nostalgic food news nostalgic news. 123, good news, news like that.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I like that, yeah, the good news. The static on
- 45:05Speaker 1: the radio, I can tell. Thank you.
- 45:07Speaker 1: OK, so aside from Yakut Orange, which we are mourning
- 45:10Speaker 1: the loss of, I'm gonna name you a few things
- 45:13Speaker 1: and you see if you recognize them and if you
- 45:15Speaker 1: realize that they got discontinued. OK, let's go. Alright. Firstly,
- 45:19Speaker 1: 7-Eleven's mashed potatoes. Do you remember that?
- 45:23Speaker 1: The mashed potato, the $1 mashed potato and sometimes they
- 45:27Speaker 1: have the $1 deals where they give you the mashed
- 45:29Speaker 1: potato and the big gulp. So I I I think
- 45:33Speaker 1: that was really like the instant mashed potatoes that we
- 45:35Speaker 1: know it's not even real potatoes at this point.
- 45:38Speaker 1: But we still love it. We loved it. Honestly, it
- 45:41Speaker 1: was something that my friends and I always order without fail, 7-Eleven, right?
- 45:44Speaker 1: The gravy was good. Um, how about Mr. Softee ice cream?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Do you still remember that? Yeah. So, uh, they remained
- 45:50Speaker 1: as one of the most missed food items for 7-Eleven specifically,
- 45:54Speaker 1: but such was the demand for Mrs. Softie that 7-Eleven
- 45:57Speaker 1: actually brought it back a few years ago, but only
- 45:59Speaker 1: at selected outlets. So not every outlet will have it.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Just make sure that you try and identify the ones
- 46:04Speaker 1: that have it.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Um, this was something that I didn't really drink because
- 46:09Speaker 1: I don't really like, um, carbonated drinks, although they do
- 46:13Speaker 1: have a non-carbonated version, but do you remember anything and whatever?
- 46:17Speaker 1: Did you ever get into that? I tried, but I'd
- 46:21Speaker 1: rather have my coke or ice lemon tea because knowing
- 46:24Speaker 1: you creature of habit, I'm not sure if you like
- 46:27Speaker 1: surprises when it comes to your drinks and I think
- 46:30Speaker 1: for anything and what.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Anything or whatever. Anything and whatever was the they were
- 46:34Speaker 1: jumping on people saying, yeah, whatever, whatever. I know that
- 46:38Speaker 1: was smart. I thought it was quite cute, but it
- 46:39Speaker 1: was launched in 2007, but discontinued three years later. Um,
- 46:44Speaker 1: it was, I guess, before blind boxes became such a
- 46:47Speaker 1: big thing. This was blind box and a drink, blind drinks, right?
- 46:50Speaker 1: So anything, whatever. So it poked fun at people saying that.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I thought that was quite cute as well. Um, aside
- 46:56Speaker 1: from that, I think this was.
- 46:59Speaker 1: McDonald's milkshakes. Do you remember that? Previously available only outlets
- 47:04Speaker 1: with dessert kiosks. They came in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavors, flavors.
- 47:08Speaker 1: They were removed from the menu in 2024. So that
- 47:12Speaker 1: was quite recent that they removed them. In fact, I
- 47:14Speaker 1: didn't even realize they were gone for real. I thought
- 47:17Speaker 1: it was just like one of those, oh, it's gone
- 47:19Speaker 1: for now, but back next time kind of thing. No, no,
- 47:21Speaker 1: but the milkshakes at McDonald's, at least in the 90s
- 47:24Speaker 1: or the late 80s.
- 47:25Speaker 1: It was the place to go. Yeah, for sure. OK,
- 47:28Speaker 1: last but not least, this one not super familiar with,
- 47:31Speaker 1: but KFC's official burger. Do you remember that? Yeah. So
- 47:35Speaker 1: I think I only tried it a couple of times
- 47:37Speaker 1: because my mom bought it back then, like the official meal, um,
- 47:40Speaker 1: that I think comes with like a mashed potato and
- 47:43Speaker 1: a Pepsi, if I'm not wrong. So it's like $5 meal.
- 47:45Speaker 1: It was removed from KFC's menu less than a decade ago,
- 47:49Speaker 1: but I think it continues to show up in a
- 47:51Speaker 1: lot of like online.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Conversations and discussions, people just reminiscing and saying, please bring
- 47:55Speaker 1: it back. And if I'm not wrong, in 2023, there
- 47:57Speaker 1: was actually a petition online to bring it back. Speaking
- 48:01Speaker 1: of petitions, not that it's not that it's discontinued, but McDonald's,
- 48:05Speaker 1: it's June. Spicy nuggets, please, please. I don't mind. Thank you.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Safe to say I think cinemas were packed out over
- 48:12Speaker 1: the weekend for Toy Story 5. That an obsession as well,
- 48:16Speaker 1: but Toy Story 5 is something I watched over the weekend.
- 48:19Speaker 1: As a story, I stand for it. It shows you
- 48:24Speaker 1: how technology has taken over and kids aren't playing with
- 48:28Speaker 1: toys anymore. It tackles the topic of early friendships in
- 48:32Speaker 1: your life, might bring back some childhood memories for you.
- 48:35Speaker 1: That's all I'm gonna say. But the one thing that I,
- 48:39Speaker 1: as a Toy Story fan, didn't really enjoy, they reduced
- 48:44Speaker 1: Woody to a side character.
- 48:48Speaker 1: So if, if, if you watch Toy Story 4, not
- 48:51Speaker 1: a spoiler, you would know that Woody decides to go
- 48:54Speaker 1: with Bo Peep on an adventure outdoors and all that.
- 48:57Speaker 1: So Jesse becomes the new in charge of the toys.
- 49:01Speaker 1: So the movie is centered around Jessie and her adventure
- 49:04Speaker 1: with Bonnie and all that, and Woody is the side character.
- 49:07Speaker 1: But you know, sometimes it's just like that, right? Like,
- 49:10Speaker 1: for example, even with, let's say the Harry Potter series,
- 49:14Speaker 1: I mean, there will always be a new character or
- 49:16Speaker 1: a new focus on a character in a different movie. Although,
- 49:21Speaker 1: you know, Woody and Harry Potter, they will always be
- 49:23Speaker 1: the center. They will always be an important character, but
- 49:26Speaker 1: some
- 49:27Speaker 1: Um, some editions of the films that you will see
- 49:30Speaker 1: them take a bit of a sidebar. Yeah, but if
- 49:33Speaker 1: you're a Toy Story 12, and 3 purist, yeah, I'm sure,
- 49:36Speaker 1: I'm sure it hits different. You will feel strongly about
- 49:39Speaker 1: Woody and Buzz. Yeah, I know, I've got this nostalgia
- 49:42Speaker 1: because that's what we grew up with, right? And can
- 49:44Speaker 1: you believe it? I was 7 when Toy Story 1
- 49:46Speaker 1: came out. I'm 38 this year. 31 years later, Toy
- 49:51Speaker 1: Story 5. Yeah, still 7 mentally or no.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I mean for the fact that I'm using the woodie
- 49:56Speaker 1: pen you got me, that's true. 1717, some things don't change.
