- 0:11Hello friends, it's shown here and it is the 16th of August.
- 0:16It's a Friday and you have made it to the end of another week.
- 0:20Good on you. So good to have your company.
- 0:23And I don't just say it's so good to have your company
- 0:26because I don't know what else to say, but it really is
- 0:29wonderful. Do you know this little
- 0:31community of us who gather around the wireless?
- 0:35Well, that's old language, but gather around God's Word each
- 0:39day. There are many of us.
- 0:42Do you know There are individuals, there are families,
- 0:45there are couples who are right now sitting in bed with a cup of
- 0:48tea listening to God's Word. I know some of you are on your
- 0:51way to work, Others of you are around the breakfast table.
- 0:54Some of you are tucked in at night at the end of your day.
- 0:58For those of you friends who have emailed me in the last
- 1:01couple of weeks, Gee, that's wonderful.
- 1:03I really appreciate you reaching out to, to let me know how this
- 1:06fits into the rhythm of your day.
- 1:08And for those of you who catch up with me and let me know that
- 1:12this is a part of your routine, Gee, it is such a blessing to
- 1:16me. And it is a blessing to all of
- 1:18us because, well, we continue these psalms that that are not
- 1:23just regular psalms, but they are these songs for pilgrims
- 1:27ascending to Jerusalem. And that is us.
- 1:30We are a group of pilgrims ascending to that holy city
- 1:34together where our God will welcome us.
- 1:38And we don't do it alone. So take heart, take courage that
- 1:42that you are part of a large group, an enormous group that
- 1:46stretches across the globe, and that together today we are all
- 1:50going to hear these words from our God to us.
- 1:54And that today, as you go about your day, know that you and
- 1:57hundreds of others have got these words ringing in their
- 2:01ears as we go about this Christian life in community, not
- 2:05by ourselves. And that is inspiring to me and
- 2:09I hope that's encouraging to you.
- 2:11So thank you. Thank you for being a part of
- 2:13what we do You ready? You're ready to get on with it
- 2:17and get over sent sentimental, Sean.
- 2:19Yeah, me too. Alright, let us do it.
- 2:21Let us sing a song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem, a Psalm
- 2:25of Solomon, Psalm 127. Unless the Lord builds a house,
- 2:41the work of the builders is wasted.
- 2:45Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with centuries will
- 2:49do no good. It is useless for you to work so
- 2:53hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working
- 2:58for food to eat, for God gives rest to His loved ones.
- 3:05Children are a gift from the Lord.
- 3:07They are a reward from Him. Children born to a young man are
- 3:13like arrows in a warrior's hands.
- 3:16How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them?
- 3:20He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the
- 3:24city gates. Lord, You certainly are in
- 3:37control as we, your pilgrims, continue to ascend this mountain
- 3:44toward you on Your holy hill. Our Lord, help us continually
- 3:50know that it is not by our own efforts that we achieve
- 3:54anything, but it is Your gift to us.
- 3:59And yes, You want us to be diligent with the gifts You give
- 4:01us. But our Lord, I thank you.
- 4:04I thank you for the rest that you give us.
- 4:08I thank you for the food on our tables and in our bellies.
- 4:12I thank you for our families and, if we're lucky enough to
- 4:16have children, for those arrows in our quiver who make us proud.
- 4:23I thank you, Lord, for the 1000 gifts that you bless us with
- 4:29each day, and many of them that we won't even ever know about.
- 4:34But those gifts that you orchestrate behind the scenes to
- 4:38support and encourage and equip us, You are a merciful and
- 4:44generous God, and we thank you and we praise you.
- 4:49And it's in your name, Jesus, that we pray all of this.
- 4:53Amen.
