- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. We're going to talk in a little while
- 0:26Speaker 1: about like making dreams come true. Who's making more dreams
- 0:30Speaker 1: come true? anybody else. But first, I noticed something as
- 0:35Speaker 1: we got to the end of the afternoon slate of games.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I honestly don't know how often this happens. This feels
- 0:40Speaker 1: a little bit uncommon, but I'm going to count them
- 0:42Speaker 1: out right now. It is one, two, three, four, five,
- 0:47Speaker 1: six undefeated teams after week three. I want to tell
- 0:53Speaker 1: you something that is interesting. about those six undefeated teams
- 0:56Speaker 1: after week three. But before we do that, just give
- 0:59Speaker 1: me a little tease to hold you on here for
- 1:00Speaker 1: a second. I'm going to tell you the most surprising
- 1:03Speaker 1: thing that I've seen in the NFL. A few years ago,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the Cleveland Browns had a punter named Rodney. I believe
- 1:12Speaker 1: his name was Rodney Hudson. Those of you who have
- 1:14Speaker 1: listened to this show for a while may remember him
- 1:17Speaker 1: by the name that we gave him, the athletic punter. Um,
- 1:21Speaker 1: he's a Rodney that looked like you might imagine a
- 1:23Speaker 1: Rodney to look at. I remember they ran a fake
- 1:25Speaker 1: punt once and that big, he had wheels too. You
- 1:27Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? So like every now and then
- 1:30Speaker 1: we get ourselves a athletic punter. Um, what's the boy's name?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Harvin something junior that went to Georgia tech that wound
- 1:37Speaker 1: up kicking for a while up there with the Steelers.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Rest in peace to the homie, Reggie Roby. You know
- 1:42Speaker 1: what I'm saying? But, Somehow, the Browns have toyed with
- 1:46Speaker 1: my emotions. Somehow, they have a kicker named Andre Smiths. Smiths,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I think is what they said, but when I heard
- 1:55Speaker 1: it on TV, it sounded like his name was Andre Smith.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And then I looked at the picture, and that ain't
- 1:59Speaker 1: no Andre. It's an Andre from around Chicago, and he's
- 2:05Speaker 1: not an athletic kicker. That was the biggest surprise I
- 2:08Speaker 1: ever had in my life. I was like, first it
- 2:10Speaker 1: was like, wait, the kicker's name is Andre? Hold on.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I feel like either I would have got the memo
- 2:15Speaker 1: about that or B, do they still print up Jet magazines?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Because that would have been in there, right? I was
- 2:21Speaker 1: just at my parents' house. I would have thumbed through
- 2:24Speaker 1: and seen it. But it turned out he was a
- 2:25Speaker 1: different Andre. It was a white man named Andre. And
- 2:28Speaker 1: we don't even make black Andres that much anymore, right?
- 2:31Speaker 1: Maybe that's how I should have known he was a
- 2:32Speaker 1: white Andre because it didn't have a prefix like a
- 2:34Speaker 1: D-E or an apostrophe or something that way. Anyway, it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: 3-0 football teams. Here's what I noticed about the 3-0
- 2:41Speaker 1: football team. One of them is the San Francisco 49ers,
- 2:44Speaker 1: who I believe are just kind of sort of treading water.
- 2:48Speaker 1: In fact, Ryan, I think a lot of people are
- 2:49Speaker 1: treading water. Listen to this. The 49ers are 3-0. Their
- 2:52Speaker 1: point differential in three games is 10.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's with two games coming under the helm
- 2:59Speaker 2: by Mac Jones.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That is correct. That is the other Mac Jones, not
- 3:02Speaker 1: the Mac Jones that is the patriarch of this program.
- 3:04Speaker 1: The other Mac Jones. The Buccaneers are 3-0. Ryan, their
- 3:09Speaker 1: margin is plus six. It has come down to the
- 3:12Speaker 1: end on every game for them.
- 3:14Speaker 2: They really tried to give away today's game.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Oh, did they? I mean, they were playing. They were
- 3:18Speaker 1: playing the Jets. Poor Jets. The Jets were up two, right?
- 3:21Speaker 1: And then it marched back down. The Eagles are 3-0.
- 3:23Speaker 1: That's at a plus 14. The Chargers at plus 20.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I feel like that's not bad, but it's not, like, overwhelming.
- 3:30Speaker 1: The two overwhelmers, one of them is the Buffalo Bills,
- 3:33Speaker 1: who I don't know how great they've looked. But, Ryan,
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Colts have a point differential of 47.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Daniel Jones kicking the shit out of people.
- 3:45Speaker 1: So, so, so, so, so, let's talk about this for
- 3:47Speaker 1: a second, right? I said this, we made a social
- 3:50Speaker 1: video out of this. I mean, look, they brought him
- 3:55Speaker 1: in to be the starter. You don't pay people $ 14
- 3:57Speaker 1: million a year to not be the starter, all right?
- 4:00Speaker 1: I don't think it was simply to put a fire
- 4:02Speaker 1: behind Anthony Richardson. My contention was, from what I saw,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I did not think that Daniel Jones did anything in
- 4:09Speaker 1: the preseason to necessitate going to him to do the
- 4:14Speaker 1: job this year. I just did not. It just seemed
- 4:16Speaker 1: to me that they were trying to be done with
- 4:18Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson and go on from there. So, Ryan, he's
- 4:24Speaker 1: looked like Kind of excellent.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You're not going to... I didn't fall for Sam Darnold
- 4:32Speaker 1: last year.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Okay?
- 4:35Speaker 1: It's going to take a lot more than what I've seen.
- 4:38Speaker 1: But what I've seen is a lot more than what
- 4:41Speaker 1: I thought I was going to see.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I have to give the measure of credit on that.
- 4:47Speaker 1: They are cooking, Jack.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Cooking.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But they're the Colts. Dominique said they was going to
- 4:55Speaker 1: be good. And other people said that they were going
- 4:58Speaker 1: to be good. But, okay. They beat the Dolphins. We
- 5:02Speaker 1: agree bad. They beat the Titans. We agree bad with
- 5:06Speaker 1: a terrible coach.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Terrible.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He's so bad.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Like, fans booing during the middle of the game bad.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He's so bad. Oh, that's right. They did that in Nashville.
- 5:21Speaker 1: And they got the one-point win over the Broncos that
- 5:23Speaker 1: came under somewhat questionable circumstances, but it happened. And they
- 5:27Speaker 1: won the game. But they are vindicated in the move
- 5:30Speaker 1: that they made. We will see how good they actually are.
- 5:33Speaker 1: They got to go play against the Rams in LA
- 5:36Speaker 1: next week. We're going to see. But the thing that
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm noticing about all of these teams is we have
- 5:41Speaker 1: a somewhat limited functional lexicon in our league or in
- 5:47Speaker 1: this league. That's why our league, like I play in
- 5:48Speaker 1: the NFL. When we talk about the NFL, we have
- 5:51Speaker 1: a limitation in our diction and the ways that we
- 5:53Speaker 1: speak and the terms that we use, right? And so
- 5:58Speaker 1: we always look at it as if, if you have
- 6:02Speaker 1: a quarterback, we treat that quarterback and we say he
- 6:05Speaker 1: is a franchise quarterback. I'm sure you've heard me talk
- 6:07Speaker 1: about this before, but it's relevant again. A franchise quarterback, right?
- 6:13Speaker 1: But not everybody, just because you got a quarterback doesn't
- 6:16Speaker 1: mean you got a franchise quarterback. You might just have
- 6:19Speaker 1: a starting quarterback. You may even have a very good
- 6:23Speaker 1: starting quarterback. but there aren't that many actual factual franchise quarterbacks.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes is a franchise quarterback. Josh Allen is a
- 6:32Speaker 1: franchise quarterback. Lamar Jackson is a franchise quarterback. Just about
- 6:39Speaker 1: everybody else is a starting quarterback until proven otherwise. And
- 6:45Speaker 1: I'm saying this about Joe Burrow just because it seemed
- 6:47Speaker 1: like he's going to be hurt all the time. So,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you know, we'll put him in franchise quarterback. Justin Herbert, right?
- 6:54Speaker 1: He's living on the fringe. Dak Prescott, great example of
- 6:58Speaker 1: a starting quarterback. Jalen Hurts, great example of a starting quarterback.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, upper echelon starting quarterback. Brock Purdy, starting quarterback, right?
- 7:06Speaker 1: And by the way, starting quarterbacks cost $ 50 million. They're
- 7:09Speaker 1: not very easy to find.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 7:14Speaker 1: We don't give having a starting quarterback nearly enough credit.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Because if you hit all the other stuff that's around you,
- 7:23Speaker 1: a starting quarterback will get the job. You know what?
- 7:28Speaker 1: You know what? This goes, we got another throwback. We
- 7:31Speaker 1: got another throwback. A starting quarterback is the true and
- 7:38Speaker 1: proper definition of what we used to call Mid. Now
- 7:47Speaker 1: do you get the point that we old heads make
- 7:49Speaker 1: when we start talking about mid? You have a good
- 7:51Speaker 1: time with a bag of mid. You have a great
- 7:54Speaker 1: time with a bag of mid. Mid ain't going to
- 7:56Speaker 1: make your head hurt, right? Now, you know, it ain't
- 7:58Speaker 1: going to necessarily be a special day, but if the
- 8:01Speaker 1: music is already jamming and the food is already good,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you got a full on party. And the only thing
- 8:06Speaker 1: you needed to take it over the top was a
- 8:09Speaker 1: bag of mid, right? And, okay, again, this is mid
- 8:13Speaker 1: in the positive sense, not the insulting sense, the way
- 8:16Speaker 1: y'all talk about it right now. If Daniel Jones is
- 8:18Speaker 1: a starting quarterback, hey, man, look, you got to say,
- 8:20Speaker 1: mid used to always not be guaranteed to find. Y'all
- 8:23Speaker 1: be out here getting y'all shit and paying for it
- 8:25Speaker 1: with a debit card or your cash app account. It
- 8:27Speaker 1: wasn't that simple, right? You could get it, but not everywhere. Good,
- 8:34Speaker 1: solid mid. I'm looking at the NFC West, Brian, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: It's four levels of mid, but mid nonetheless. Now, Mack Jones,
- 8:45Speaker 1: that's Reggie. That is Reginald. His middle name is probably Reginald.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, it's a good floral mid. Smells real nice.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Sam Darnold is a semi-dependable mid.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he's just sneaking in there. He's just like, damn,
- 9:02Speaker 1: this ain't what y'all had last week.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Stafford's the mid that's been there a little too long.
- 9:08Speaker 1: He is, he is, but Stafford... I never know. I
- 9:11Speaker 1: still have no idea what to do with Stafford. I've
- 9:13Speaker 1: never seen anybody that had a growth arc that continued
- 9:15Speaker 1: for as long as he did. I also have to
- 9:18Speaker 1: remind you guys. So I've seen people get offended when
- 9:20Speaker 1: I compare three-time pro bowler Carson Palmer to three-time pro
- 9:24Speaker 1: bowler Matthew Stafford. Like, I think the parallels are actually
- 9:28Speaker 1: very clear. Both went to teams that were historically terrible, right?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Both were the best quarterback talent-wise that they'd ever had.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Both were part of getting it together when they had very,
- 9:37Speaker 1: very good receivers. Now, of course, Carson Palmer flat out
- 9:40Speaker 1: quit on the bangles stafford did not quit they made
- 9:43Speaker 1: the trade he wound up in a good situation but
- 9:45Speaker 1: palmer never get mad palmer was runner up to the
- 9:48Speaker 1: mvp again that cam newton year and you could have
- 9:51Speaker 1: made an argument that he could have been the mvp
- 9:53Speaker 1: right It's not an insult to Matthew Stafford to say
- 9:56Speaker 1: that he compares favorably to Carson Palmer. But in this
- 10:01Speaker 1: analogy I have, Ryan, I have no proper comparison to
- 10:06Speaker 1: the bag of mid that'll give the other team a
- 10:09Speaker 1: chance to catch the ball. You know what I mean?
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's a limitation on the analogy you're trying to come
- 10:15Speaker 1: up with.
- 10:15Speaker 2: We're all brainstorming here.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. That's where it spreads a little bit too far.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It's a model where we can only relax so many
- 10:23Speaker 1: of the assumptions.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's where we have. But the teams that have a
- 10:27Speaker 1: guy that can do the job Seem to be doing
- 10:30Speaker 1: all right, you know? Now the thing about Daniel Jones
- 10:33Speaker 1: is though, if you're a coach and he does the
- 10:35Speaker 1: passing job just okay, he can run. And I still
- 10:38Speaker 1: think half the league don't know that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: They're definitely learning this year. They definitely forgot he used
- 10:45Speaker 2: to be able to run.
- 10:46Speaker 1: They always show that clip of him tripping over his
- 10:48Speaker 1: own feet.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But he got a lot of distance before he fell.
- 10:52Speaker 1: He did, he did.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He was the only man in the frame.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But he's already working against the limitations of their imaginations
- 10:59Speaker 1: in the first place with his ability to run.
- 11:01Speaker 2: He didn't go to Duke.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And on top of that, he did go to Duke.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So we know he can take a charge, right? Jordan Love,
- 11:09Speaker 1: he is at our, he's our fringy, starting versus franchise quarterback.
- 11:15Speaker 1: The ones that I think get to be really interesting
- 11:18Speaker 1: are the guys with absolute outright, I think Stafford perhaps
- 11:23Speaker 1: is an example of this. And I think Jordan Love's
- 11:24Speaker 1: in this same category, right? The ceiling is so franchise.
- 11:29Speaker 1: The floor is so yuck.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It is going exactly where he wants it or exactly
- 11:37Speaker 2: to the other team.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That Thursday night game, Jordan Love looked like the future Right? However,
- 11:44Speaker 1: they lost that game when my man Andre made that
- 11:47Speaker 1: field goal and they only scored 10 points. And I
- 11:50Speaker 1: don't think that that was because Justin, like Jordan Love
- 11:53Speaker 1: played a terrible game. They couldn't run the ball for anything.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But still, he ain't the reason they won that game.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Now was he? He was not. Now, let me ask
- 12:03Speaker 1: you this, right? As we talk about these starting quarterback,
- 12:05Speaker 1: you know, who falls under what category? Do we still
- 12:08Speaker 1: think that Tua is a starting quarterback? You know, we
- 12:11Speaker 1: haven't talked since he suffered embarrassment on national television.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Pick your holiday. I don't know if it'll be a
- 12:18Speaker 2: starter by Halloween. Certainly not by Thanksgiving. I mean, they
- 12:21Speaker 2: all might be.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Out of there by then. I mean, it might be dead.
- 12:24Speaker 1: It was still a coach.
- 12:25Speaker 2: For now. For now.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I thought that since they don't have a... Since they
- 12:34Speaker 1: don't have a bye week until 12th, I thought that
- 12:37Speaker 1: they would maybe take the Thursday as the opportunity, right?
- 12:40Speaker 1: Like Steven Ross, I'm surprised that he possesses this measure
- 12:44Speaker 1: of patience. Where are we on C.J. Stroud now to
- 12:47Speaker 1: these Texans? I'm about to say the Texans on the
- 12:49Speaker 1: other side of this, they're 0-3 with a 13-point difference. C.J.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Stroud has thrown 19 touchdowns and 15 picks since he
- 12:58Speaker 2: was trying to be a big brother to Caleb Williams
- 13:01Speaker 2: on week two last year.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Wow, you know what? I thought he was well within
- 13:04Speaker 1: his rights to big brother the guy in that moment.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I felt like that boy needed to hear something. You
- 13:08Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? That happens too.
- 13:12Speaker 2: They're basically the same age.
- 13:13Speaker 1: There's nothing quite overreaching when you believe that you have
- 13:17Speaker 1: a measure of authority that the other person does not
- 13:20Speaker 1: believe that you have.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Now, yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You know, but I feel like he saw something in
- 13:25Speaker 1: the little homie. He saw the little homie was down.
- 13:28Speaker 1: He tried to pick him up. And that's how dedicated
- 13:30Speaker 1: we are to find the things just to get on
- 13:33Speaker 1: people for. He was out here trying to do his
- 13:35Speaker 1: good deed for the day. And we use that as
- 13:38Speaker 1: a line of demarcation to the end of his. You're
- 13:45Speaker 1: so unapologetic about this. All right, guys. I know that
- 13:59Speaker 1: it's really easy to talk bad about the Cowboys, right?
- 14:05Speaker 1: And they've earned a measure of scoring. They're the most
- 14:07Speaker 1: popular team.
- 14:07Speaker 3: In the league.
- 14:08Speaker 1: That means it's going to have more people that dislike them.
- 14:10Speaker 1: All of those things. But I do think from time
- 14:13Speaker 1: to time that we need to acknowledge that there's some
- 14:15Speaker 1: things that are just bigger than the game, just bigger
- 14:19Speaker 1: than wins and losses. And some of those things Those
- 14:22Speaker 1: things is like dreams. You know what I mean? And
- 14:26Speaker 1: I think a lot of us, when we think about
- 14:28Speaker 1: life and the way things go, we have dreams we
- 14:30Speaker 1: want to fulfill. We want things that we want to accomplish.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And look, like some of us, like the homie Joe
- 14:36Speaker 1: from Missouri City, man, fastest 10-year-old in the world. Most
- 14:39Speaker 1: of us don't make our dreams come true that soon.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Like most of us have to grind it out and
- 14:44Speaker 1: go a lot longer before we're going to have such
- 14:46Speaker 1: a worthwhile accomplishment. And when it comes to the Cowboys... Um,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I feel like we need to give the defense a nickname.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And normally when you think of nicknames, you think of
- 15:04Speaker 1: like the steel curtain, um, you know, the, the, the
- 15:09Speaker 1: purple people eaters, you know, gang green, you know, um,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and the Cowboys used to have like the doomsday defense. Right. Um,
- 15:19Speaker 1: And we reserve nicknames for the great defenses. And I
- 15:23Speaker 1: feel like given the contributions that they make into the
- 15:28Speaker 1: world right now, we need to think about the other
- 15:30Speaker 1: side of the coin and start giving nicknames to other defenses.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And so I propose that now we need to call
- 15:39Speaker 1: the Cowboys defense the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Because they out here
- 15:45Speaker 1: making dreams come true. Right? like whatever it is that
- 15:51Speaker 1: you didn't know if you could do it, you get
- 15:53Speaker 1: out there against the Cowboys defense, I assure you, you
- 15:56Speaker 1: will find out that you can in fact do it, right?
- 16:00Speaker 1: Like Russell Wilson, for example. Russell Wilson last week in
- 16:05Speaker 1: week two, he was out there looking like Jack Nicklaus
- 16:09Speaker 1: at the Masters in 1986. You know what I'm saying?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Kayla Williams had four touchdown passes. Right, I'm pretty sure
- 16:20Speaker 1: that's a career high for him.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they're going to be on national television
- 16:26Speaker 2: all year long just getting shredded by these quarterbacks.
- 16:32Speaker 1: And this is what I'm saying. That's bigger than them.
- 16:36Speaker 1: That's about more than them. And it's Caleb Williams' second
- 16:39Speaker 1: four-touchdown game. The last time was against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But to make... The Make-A-Wish Foundation is, you know, you
- 16:46Speaker 1: got to go to put a little bit more into
- 16:48Speaker 1: it yourself. But just like that New York game, it's
- 16:53Speaker 1: just people running by them. It looks like playing Madden
- 16:57Speaker 1: on rookie. Like the safeties, I don't know. What are
- 17:01Speaker 1: they keeping safe?
- 17:04Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Like, what are they? They're like hall monitors. It's like
- 17:08Speaker 1: they're keeping an eye on you, but they're not stopping
- 17:11Speaker 1: you from doing it. Hey, slow down. Stop running. Stop running.
- 17:13Speaker 6: Right?
- 17:14Speaker 1: They ain't doing nothing about it. I couldn't believe it.
- 17:16Speaker 1: They got by that flea figure. Trayvon Diggs. Hey, man,
- 17:19Speaker 1: Trayvon Diggs had that one year where he had like
- 17:21Speaker 1: 15 interceptions. I think it was 11, literally.
- 17:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And I think he made the pro bowl after that.
- 17:25Speaker 1: He's been hurt or whatever, but he's still in his
- 17:28Speaker 1: mind thinking he's that same dude. And he'd be... Blowing
- 17:31Speaker 1: on the dice and just rolling. Just seeing what can happen.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Then next thing you know, they pass him, and the
- 17:37Speaker 1: hall monitor's out here like, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 17:39Speaker 1: where you guys going? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, right?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Are they out there playing football with flashlights on their belts?
- 17:46Speaker 1: Just maybe if I can hit him in the eye,
- 17:48Speaker 1: he won't be able to catch it. Is that what
- 17:49Speaker 1: they're doing? It's just amazing how bad they are. Keep
- 17:53Speaker 1: in mind, that's Ibrafluz coaching that defense. Who was the
- 17:57Speaker 1: coach of the Bears? It's like a revenge game for you.
- 18:00Speaker 3: No, sir.
- 18:00Speaker 1: They ate your ass up. Or maybe Ben Johnson was like,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I ate his ass up last year, and I'm going
- 18:05Speaker 1: to eat his ass up again.
- 18:06Speaker 2: You know what really helps a bad secondary? A good
- 18:10Speaker 2: pass rush.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. That's where the Michael Parsons thing comes
- 18:16Speaker 1: back into play.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They gave Deron Bland all that money. He got hurt,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and he was another trick-or-treat corner. He had all those
- 18:23Speaker 2: pick-sixes a couple years ago, but he's not exactly a
- 18:27Speaker 2: lockdown cover guy. And you see this team, as soon
- 18:30Speaker 2: as C.D. Lamb goes out, they're D.O.A.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Right. But here's my thing, though, about everything you're saying
- 18:37Speaker 1: about the pass rush, the corners is right, but at
- 18:39Speaker 1: the same time, Them safeties are getting run past when
- 18:44Speaker 1: it ain't the quarter's job to stop them from getting there.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like, they're just, they are,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and I don't even know these, I don't even know
- 18:50Speaker 1: these cats' names, to be honest, right? And I should
- 18:54Speaker 1: know their names, because on the video, their names be
- 18:56Speaker 1: in the camera.
- 18:57Speaker 2: You see them on the back of their jerseys.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, you could, I'll tell you this,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I may not know their names, but they know the
- 19:04Speaker 1: names of them receivers. They be looking at them the
- 19:05Speaker 1: whole way. Ah, Mr. Moore, number two. Mr.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Burden, Mr.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Odunze. Yeah, they out here fighting about dudes you may
- 19:13Speaker 1: not even know enough, right? They can, they, Trust me,
- 19:16Speaker 1: they know how to spell Odunze. That's the best way
- 19:19Speaker 1: to put it. How do you spell that one? It'll
- 19:20Speaker 1: pop up in the back of the room. O as
- 19:22Speaker 1: in Oliver, D as in Daniel, U-N-Z-E. I think that's
- 19:28Speaker 1: how you spell that. But anyway, they will be able
- 19:30Speaker 1: to tell you specifically. Now, it's terrible when your own
- 19:37Speaker 1: team has a bad defense. And we have talked on
- 19:41Speaker 1: this show before about what it's like when you have
- 19:44Speaker 1: that one cornerback that just be getting fired up in
- 19:48Speaker 1: the whole city. Don't nobody. hate more, right, than a
- 19:52Speaker 1: city with that one dude who just stay getting lit
- 19:54Speaker 1: on fire. Everybody hate that. Everybody understand that. You get it.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But if the Cowboys are going to be the Cowboys,
- 20:07Speaker 1: which is to say, They're going to be on national
- 20:11Speaker 1: television a lot, okay? Oh, Ryan, I forgot. They got
- 20:19Speaker 1: to play against Micah Parsons next week.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Michael Parsons and, like we were just talking about, Jordan Love.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And look here.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Who has lit them up before.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, who has lit them up. I was about to say,
- 20:29Speaker 1: not only has he lit them up before, as we
- 20:31Speaker 1: saw in that movie, that was the one that broke
- 20:33Speaker 1: Jerry Jones down. But if there's anything you need to
- 20:36Speaker 1: be able to do, if you're going to stop Jordan Love,
- 20:38Speaker 1: it's to stop him from throwing the ball really far.
- 20:40Speaker 1: He's got that shit under control. Right? He's got that
- 20:44Speaker 1: wrapped up. But they got, let me see. Oh, they're
- 20:47Speaker 1: going to play against Washington. That's going to be on
- 20:50Speaker 1: national TV. They're going to go to Denver. That's going
- 20:53Speaker 1: to be on national TV. Oh, we got a Monday
- 20:56Speaker 1: night game. Oh, we got another Monday night game. Oh,
- 21:03Speaker 1: then we have another game of the week. Then we
- 21:08Speaker 1: have Thanksgiving.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Against the Chiefs.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Then we have another Thursday night game. Hold on.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Then we have the Sunday night game. And they play
- 21:20Speaker 1: on Christmas. I just basically went through the whole schedule.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Everything they're going to do for the rest of the
- 21:26Speaker 1: year is on national TV, except for like three games,
- 21:29Speaker 1: it seems like, and running through. What I'm saying is,
- 21:32Speaker 1: if you hate the Cowboys, you might watch them give
- 21:37Speaker 1: up 40 points like six times in the rest of
- 21:41Speaker 1: the year, or like 30 a night at the very least,
- 21:44Speaker 1: unless something very significant changes. And this is without CeeDee Lamb.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Is there a world in which the league ever flexed
- 21:51Speaker 1: the Cowboys out of these slots? No. Because I don't
- 21:54Speaker 1: know if you saw the injury for Lamb, but I
- 21:56Speaker 1: think you and I, we did because we texted about it.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, he's done for the day.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 1: That is the dreaded high ankle sprain. I don't do
- 22:03Speaker 1: a lot of diagnosis from television, but I know what
- 22:05Speaker 1: that one is.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's two to four weeks.
- 22:08Speaker 1: That's two to four weeks to play to get right.
- 22:11Speaker 1: That's not. Yeah. That's not a thing. I wouldn't be
- 22:14Speaker 1: surprised if he's out for four to six.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Like that looked terrible. OK, so they're going to be
- 22:19Speaker 1: down their best offensive player and they won't have C.D.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Lamb.
- 22:23Speaker 1: But every team they play this season is going to
- 22:26Speaker 1: have C.D.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Lamb.
- 22:27Speaker 1: It's not going to be C.D. Lamb, but it's going
- 22:28Speaker 1: to look like he's C.D. Lamb. Every single team going
- 22:32Speaker 1: to have a C.D. Lamb out there. Even the white ones,
- 22:35Speaker 1: they're going to be out there. Lamb, McConkie, you want
- 22:38Speaker 1: to know what it feels like to be us? It's
- 22:40Speaker 1: going to be like that if y'all play against. Oh,
- 22:41Speaker 1: they do play against the Cowboys. My bad, right? They
- 22:45Speaker 1: play against the Cowboys in week 16. They have to
- 22:48Speaker 1: play the Chargers.
- 22:50Speaker 2: But at least they- It's one of their only games
- 22:51Speaker 2: on national TV.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, hey, man. Newcastle. Newcastle better go scout before
- 22:56Speaker 1: Matt Conkey mess around and make a fool out of
- 22:58Speaker 1: one of y'all. Don't get this. Don't, uh... Don't get
- 23:03Speaker 1: this twisted. In no kind of way. But no, they're bad. Like, they...
- 23:07Speaker 1: In fact, the thing is, I don't think the Cowboys
- 23:09Speaker 1: as a team were bad. And I don't think that
- 23:11Speaker 1: we thought that they were just going to be an
- 23:13Speaker 1: abjectly terrible defense.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:16Speaker 2: I mean, they were... I mean, obviously, a lot of
- 23:19Speaker 2: those advanced stats came out when the parser stuff was
- 23:22Speaker 2: going on about how, you know, the EPA when he
- 23:25Speaker 2: was on versus when he was off, which is like
- 23:27Speaker 2: the very popular NFL advanced statistic. But they look... You
- 23:35Speaker 2: see the popular move is to bring in these disgraced
- 23:37Speaker 2: former head coaches as defensive coordinators.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Obviously, in the same game, Dennis Allen was coaching the Bears.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Brandon Staley was with New Orleans. But Eberflus looks lost.
- 23:48Speaker 2: You thought he could maybe patch something together, but it
- 23:52Speaker 2: was open season against a guy he knows pretty well
- 23:56Speaker 2: and should know his players' limitations.
- 23:59Speaker 1: From what I believe I heard Dominique say, Problem is,
- 24:03Speaker 1: Ibraflu's got one of them schemes. And look, you have
- 24:06Speaker 1: a lot of very good schemes like this. Tony Dungy
- 24:08Speaker 1: lives like this. Pete Carroll lived like this. Your scheme
- 24:11Speaker 1: is dependent upon getting pressure with four people. And if
- 24:15Speaker 1: you can't get pressure with four, and that's the only
- 24:17Speaker 1: way that you really got it to get pressure, you're
- 24:20Speaker 1: going to be in bad, bad shape, which I keep
- 24:24Speaker 1: trying to cut them some slack on this. Takes us
- 24:27Speaker 1: right back to where everything seems to go right back to...
- 24:30Speaker 1: Michael Parsons. You guys traded Michael Parsons. Like, look, man,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I don't think it was as bad an idea as
- 24:39Speaker 1: everybody else did. I guess I find myself often being
- 24:42Speaker 1: that person that's like, yo, I wouldn't have made that move,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but hey, maybe you got your reasons. That's kind of
- 24:46Speaker 1: where I was on the Luka Dacis trade, right? However...
- 24:52Speaker 1: This one, a good friend of mine said in Texas,
- 24:54Speaker 1: the Cowboys are going to go down for making the
- 24:55Speaker 1: greatest trade of all time and the worst trade of
- 24:58Speaker 1: all time. I'm not sure the Parsons trade is going
- 25:01Speaker 1: to be the worst of all time, but it definitely
- 25:04Speaker 1: will not be the best. Football is back, and so

- 29:21Speaker 2: All right, Beau, let's get some other stories throughout the weekend.
- 29:31Speaker 2: As very, you know, Across all the headlines, ABC suspended
- 29:36Speaker 2: Jimmy kimball's late night talk show on wednesday after the
- 29:39Speaker 2: network cited his comments on the federal shirling of charlie
- 29:42Speaker 2: kirk had crossed the line the fcc has gotten involved
- 29:46Speaker 2: trump administration has gotten involved all the local next star
- 29:50Speaker 2: and cinquare stations have gotten involved bo what was your
- 29:53Speaker 2: reaction to this news.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Okay um I have not talked about this in any
- 30:00Speaker 1: public place. I haven't said anything about Kirk being shot
- 30:05Speaker 1: or any of the aftermath of it. Just because I remember,
- 30:10Speaker 1: this was a long time ago, when I used to
- 30:13Speaker 1: be on Twitter and I was talking about everything. And
- 30:15Speaker 1: Trey Wingo hit me up one time. And Trey said,
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm just letting you know, you don't have to say
- 30:22Speaker 1: something about everything. And I appreciated what he was saying
- 30:32Speaker 1: at the time, and I didn't have a problem with it, right? Like,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I really knew that he was kind of looking out.
- 30:37Speaker 1: But in some ways, I used to think that I
- 30:40Speaker 1: did need to have, not so much need to have
- 30:41Speaker 1: something to say about everything, but I was the person
- 30:43Speaker 1: who talked about everything, so I would have something to
- 30:45Speaker 1: say about everything. It was just kind of like, hey, okay,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I mean, it's just on Twitter. It's not the biggest
- 30:48Speaker 1: deal in the world. But now, if there's anything that
- 30:52Speaker 1: I would get out here and say to people, it
- 30:54Speaker 1: would absolutely be, you don't have to say something about everything.
- 31:00Speaker 6: Right?
- 31:00Speaker 1: And I do believe, and again, I'm saying this as
- 31:04Speaker 1: somebody who in his own way has fallen victim to
- 31:08Speaker 1: this himself. I do believe that the way social media works,
- 31:12Speaker 1: especially when it becomes a habitual part of your life
- 31:16Speaker 1: and you kind of view yourself as a brand, which
- 31:20Speaker 1: is what I think happens to most people. I think
- 31:22Speaker 1: a lot of people do feel like they have to
- 31:25Speaker 1: have something to say. And I think that existing in
- 31:29Speaker 1: a world where people consume so much of what other
- 31:34Speaker 1: people have to say, it brings you closer and closer
- 31:37Speaker 1: every time to kind of feeling like you got to
- 31:38Speaker 1: have some sort of reaction. And what I figured out
- 31:43Speaker 1: after a point was you don't have to say anything
- 31:49Speaker 1: until you're ready to say it. And a big part
- 31:57Speaker 1: of why I absolutely came to that conclusion was my
- 32:01Speaker 1: ability to recognize that what can get your ass in
- 32:08Speaker 1: a sling is only but so related or dependent on
- 32:14Speaker 1: what you actually said or what your point was. And
- 32:20Speaker 1: I realized that when they came for my friend Jamel
- 32:24Speaker 1: in 2017, when she sent that tweet about Donald Trump
- 32:29Speaker 1: and referred to him as a white supremacist. Now, the
- 32:33Speaker 1: thing that nobody really talks about with that tweet that
- 32:36Speaker 1: I think is interesting is that it was a reply
- 32:38Speaker 1: to somebody. It wasn't something that would necessarily come on
- 32:43Speaker 1: somebody's timeline, like to find it, you were probably going
- 32:46Speaker 1: to need to engage and not the like heavy work,
- 32:49Speaker 1: but a little bit of work. And then it went around.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And I remember that as that was happening, I looked
- 32:53Speaker 1: up and it all felt very orchestrated, right? Like it
- 32:58Speaker 1: didn't feel like there was this real organic ground swell
- 33:03Speaker 1: of anger. I just didn't, I never bought the idea
- 33:07Speaker 1: that that many people were truly that offended. by what
- 33:11Speaker 1: she said at the time. But I could look and
- 33:13Speaker 1: watch and see what was happening online. And that was
- 33:15Speaker 1: when I was becoming more aware of the idea of
- 33:17Speaker 1: how few, like how many people online were not actually people.
- 33:22Speaker 1: And I watched it go and I watched it build
- 33:25Speaker 1: and I watched it where it gets to the point
- 33:26Speaker 1: where somebody's asking a question about it at the White
- 33:29Speaker 1: House press briefings with Sarah Huckabee Sanders and all of
- 33:34Speaker 1: that goes. And I watched everything that happened after the fact.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, okay, this is how some
- 33:44Speaker 1: of this sausage can be made. It's time to lay low, right?
- 33:50Speaker 1: And like for me personally, that's what I resolved. I
- 33:52Speaker 1: would never get in a line to getting out here
- 33:54Speaker 1: and talking about something that mattered or something that that
- 33:56Speaker 1: was important because of how little say so I had
- 34:00Speaker 1: about what happened to the words that you say. Okay.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Now I've always thought about that in artistic sense that
- 34:06Speaker 1: like once you present Once you present what you have
- 34:08Speaker 1: to say to the people, your words no longer belong
- 34:10Speaker 1: to you after you give them to people. They become
- 34:12Speaker 1: what people, how people interpret them, what people want them
- 34:15Speaker 1: to be, but very often what people manipulate your words
- 34:17Speaker 1: into being. That is what happens, okay? So when Kurt
- 34:23Speaker 1: got shot, number one, there's not much to say about
- 34:30Speaker 1: a person being shot. You know what I mean? Like,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of insights that I can
- 34:38Speaker 1: provide to you about somebody being shot. I just don't
- 34:43Speaker 1: have it, right? The one thing that I could say
- 34:46Speaker 1: and recommend to anybody to keep in mind is grave
- 34:50Speaker 1: dancing is generally speaking in poor taste and never received well.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I feel like the tendency to do some of the
- 35:01Speaker 1: grave dancing online is a result of people feeling like
- 35:07Speaker 1: they have to have something to say. Because it is
- 35:10Speaker 1: very easy. I personally never talked about Charlie Kirk when
- 35:15Speaker 1: he was alive. It is very easy for me in
- 35:18Speaker 1: the moment of his death to do the same thing.
- 35:21Speaker 1: There's nothing to say, okay? All right, so people are
- 35:25Speaker 1: gonna say some things that offend you. Some people are
- 35:27Speaker 1: going to express an affection for him that you don't like,
- 35:30Speaker 1: all of these things. I can tell you that you
- 35:33Speaker 1: don't have to say something. You don't, right? But at
- 35:40Speaker 1: the same time, I was floored by how many people
- 35:46Speaker 1: were getting fired for what they said, or in some cases,
- 35:52Speaker 1: kicked out of school for what they said, right? So
- 35:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about this in the context largely of myself.
- 36:04Speaker 1: of being a fairly visible figure and recognizing that it's
- 36:09Speaker 1: people looking for the moment that I slip every day, right?
- 36:12Speaker 1: Like I know the hazards and dangers that I myself
- 36:15Speaker 1: are dealing with. It's kind of wild, the idea that
- 36:21Speaker 1: regular people were kind of being held up to that
- 36:25Speaker 1: same level of scrutiny, right? Now, part of why regular
- 36:29Speaker 1: people were held up to that same level of scrutiny
- 36:32Speaker 1: is that Y'all don't turn social media into the goddamn
- 36:37Speaker 1: Crime Stoppers hotline, even though stuff ain't even necessarily crimes.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Like this has been going on for a long time
- 36:43Speaker 1: that the idea or the recourse to somebody saying something
- 36:47Speaker 1: online or being discovered online, doing something that people don't
- 36:50Speaker 1: like is to go find out where they work and
- 36:53Speaker 1: then to go get them fired. This is an ideologically
- 36:57Speaker 1: in specific pastime that we have seen grow and grow
- 37:02Speaker 1: and grow. And that's the move. You don't like what
- 37:04Speaker 1: somebody did. And I think that people felt like for
- 37:07Speaker 1: whatever reason, no matter what the issue is, you feel
- 37:10Speaker 1: like there's some measure of change that needs to be enacted.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And you know that the thing that makes change more
- 37:15Speaker 1: than anything else or the way to punish somebody is
- 37:18Speaker 1: to hurt their pockets. And so the move then is
- 37:21Speaker 1: to go after their livelihoods. OK, we've seen people operate
- 37:27Speaker 1: like this on a small level. As this has gone on,
- 37:32Speaker 1: when this thing happened with Kurt, that was the first
- 37:36Speaker 1: move so many people went to, except it didn't feel
- 37:42Speaker 1: like it was regular people just behind that. You look
- 37:49Speaker 1: up and it's governors of states encouraging people to get
- 37:55Speaker 1: in on the snitching, to go find out who people
- 37:57Speaker 1: are so that you can kick them out of college.
- 38:02Speaker 1: So you can throw them out of school for behaving
- 38:04Speaker 1: in poor taste. And a lot of the stuff that
- 38:07Speaker 1: people are talking about, I 100% believe is in poor taste.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Right?
- 38:14Speaker 1: The internet is so weird in that on one hand,
- 38:17Speaker 1: people do the stuff because they want to be seen,
- 38:19Speaker 1: but on the other hand, they forget that people can
- 38:21Speaker 1: see them. You know what I mean? But the stuff
- 38:24Speaker 1: is certainly in poor taste, but I've never thought that
- 38:27Speaker 1: poor taste was actionable in the ways of things that
- 38:30Speaker 1: we are discussing. But anyway, I watched all this. And
- 38:34Speaker 1: so like you put all those things together, kind of
- 38:36Speaker 1: like me watching as things has progressed over time. And
- 38:39Speaker 1: I thought about myself. And when I say I thought
- 38:44Speaker 1: about myself, it was like, while on one hand, I'm
- 38:48Speaker 1: not obligated to say something. On the other hand, I
- 38:52Speaker 1: want to talk about this.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I want to talk about it in part because that's
- 38:57Speaker 1: what I do. I want to talk about it in
- 38:58Speaker 1: part because for 25 years, these are the kinds of
- 39:01Speaker 1: things that I've talked about for living in public. And
- 39:03Speaker 1: I have an audience that I think many of whom
- 39:06Speaker 1: would like to know what I think about this and
- 39:08Speaker 1: would appreciate whatever help I can offer them in terms
- 39:11Speaker 1: of contextualizing this.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:16Speaker 1: But what I've always felt about myself is. I know
- 39:21Speaker 1: the terrain. I don't really get into talking about stuff
- 39:23Speaker 1: when I don't know the terrain or I don't know
- 39:25Speaker 1: the rules. For the majority of my career, I've been
- 39:29Speaker 1: doing a very good job of talking about controversial topics
- 39:32Speaker 1: in what I would consider to be non-controversial ways. If
- 39:37Speaker 1: I can stay in spaces of mutually agreed upon fact
- 39:44Speaker 1: or mutually agreed upon ideas that if you're talented enough,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you can figure out how to make your points within
- 39:53Speaker 1: those spaces without putting your ass on the line. That's
- 40:00Speaker 1: how I've always felt. And then if you are putting
- 40:01Speaker 1: your ass on the line, the question always for me became,
- 40:06Speaker 1: is this thing that I am saying worth potentially being
- 40:10Speaker 1: unable to say all the other things that I may
- 40:13Speaker 1: have to say? And very, very, very few things in
- 40:15Speaker 1: my mind have ever been worth that long run. play
- 40:19Speaker 1: right it's about figuring out how to do it that's
- 40:25Speaker 1: always been my thought about going about these things and
- 40:27Speaker 1: if i couldn't figure out how to do it then
- 40:29Speaker 1: maybe i need to leave it alone maybe i maybe
- 40:31Speaker 1: i'm not good enough to talk about what that thing
- 40:34Speaker 1: is if i can't figure out how to do it
- 40:36Speaker 1: but at the same time there's a certain measure or
- 40:39Speaker 1: feeling with some of that that make you ask yourself
- 40:44Speaker 1: if you are engaged in some measure of cowardice right
- 40:48Speaker 1: And so it's the balance of, I ain't no sucker,
- 40:50Speaker 1: but I'm also not no fool. When this came down
- 40:53Speaker 1: for Kimmel to bring this all together, I went and
- 40:57Speaker 1: watched what he said. And if I were doing his
- 41:04Speaker 1: job and the writers and I had come up with
- 41:09Speaker 1: what they did for him to say in that moment
- 41:12Speaker 1: about Charlie Kirk, There's no way in the world that
- 41:17Speaker 1: I would have thought that would have cost me my job.
- 41:20Speaker 1: There's none.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 41:23Speaker 1: And I'm saying this to somebody who has done that
- 41:25Speaker 1: job before.
- 41:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And somebody who engages in figuring out how to say
- 41:28Speaker 1: this stuff. There's no way that I would have thought
- 41:30Speaker 1: that would have been the thing that. And let's be clear,
- 41:33Speaker 1: Jimmy Kimmel's not working another day on that job. There's
- 41:35Speaker 1: no going back for either of those sides. There's no
- 41:37Speaker 1: way in the world that I thought that that would
- 41:40Speaker 1: have been a wrap. I never would have considered that
- 41:43Speaker 1: in that moment. And so it happened, the whole, it
- 41:46Speaker 1: progressed as it did. But I read this article in
- 41:48Speaker 1: the New York Times that was talking about how the
- 41:50Speaker 1: groundswell grew that led to Kimmel's dismissal. And what made
- 41:54Speaker 1: this more terrifying than anything else was, This wasn't like
- 41:58Speaker 1: a social media fire. Like that thing with Jamel at
- 42:00Speaker 1: the very least had the appearance of a social media fire.
- 42:02Speaker 1: That wasn't really what seemed to happen here. And that
- 42:04Speaker 1: wasn't the way the Times described it. Elon Musk got
- 42:07Speaker 1: a hold of it and he's got more followers than
- 42:09Speaker 1: anybody on Twitter. So then he sends it right after
- 42:12Speaker 1: it's a little, you know, a little bubbling with people
- 42:13Speaker 1: with something to say. But people got something to say
- 42:15Speaker 1: that they don't like about everything. Right. The thing that
- 42:18Speaker 1: people focused on was the idea that Kimmel implied that
- 42:21Speaker 1: the shooter was a Republican when he was not a Republican.
- 42:26Speaker 1: um if he got that wrong he got that wrong
- 42:28Speaker 1: but I I would not have thought that that would
- 42:31Speaker 1: have led to this you see what I mean and
- 42:35Speaker 1: so it starts with Elon it goes and then the
- 42:41Speaker 1: FCC director goes on a podcast and then he says
- 42:45Speaker 1: the thing that he says on the podcast and about
- 42:48Speaker 1: how ABC needs to, you know, think about losing licenses
- 42:53Speaker 1: or whatever it is. And then that leads to the
- 42:55Speaker 1: next star people and all these other companies and everything else.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And then it all goes to the move until finally
- 42:59Speaker 1: Bob Iger decides, okay, we're not going to put Kimmel
- 43:04Speaker 1: back on anymore.
- 43:05Speaker 5: Right?
- 43:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure people were that mad. That to me
- 43:12Speaker 1: is maybe the scary part in this. Because look, I've
- 43:15Speaker 1: done this job long enough to understand that you are
- 43:16Speaker 1: at the mercy of the audience. Right. And if you
- 43:18Speaker 1: do get out here and you do make the audience very,
- 43:21Speaker 1: very upset, then you're going to have to deal with
- 43:23Speaker 1: whatever comes with that. Like I've always understood that that's
- 43:28Speaker 1: part of the deal. OK. But the audience isn't even mad.
- 43:36Speaker 1: And what has presented itself just seems to be an
- 43:40Speaker 1: opportunity to do what somebody wanted to do already. That
- 43:45Speaker 1: is terrifying. Like I say that is terrifying for somebody
- 43:51Speaker 1: who does this as a job in terms of a livelihood.
- 43:57Speaker 1: But the same rules are being extended to regular people.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I mean, regular people, for lack of a better term,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I think you understand what I mean by that, right?
- 44:06Speaker 1: That's going all the way down. I have not, I've
- 44:10Speaker 1: really been unsure. Ryan, we can tell the people this,
- 44:14Speaker 1: that last week we had planned to broach this topic.
- 44:17Speaker 1: and began talking about it in the context of what
- 44:19Speaker 1: Dan Lanning said after the Oregon game. And we did it.
- 44:23Speaker 1: And then we got to a point where I was
- 44:25Speaker 1: just like, yep, you know what? Cut the second part.
- 44:28Speaker 1: And then you called me later to say, we're cutting
- 44:31Speaker 1: the first part too.
- 44:32Speaker 3: We're cutting.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Here's the thing. If we're not going to do this well,
- 44:36Speaker 2: like we're doing it right now, it doesn't make any
- 44:37Speaker 2: sense to do it at all.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Right. And it took me two weeks or however long
- 44:42Speaker 1: it's been to get to a place where I felt
- 44:44Speaker 1: like we could halfway do it well. You know, but
- 44:51Speaker 1: I should have to worry about that. Other people I
- 44:54Speaker 1: don't think should have to worry about it in that
- 44:56Speaker 1: same form or fashion or in that same way. Or
- 45:02Speaker 1: to me, the most underrated part of this with Kimmel
- 45:04Speaker 1: is that I assure you that script went through levels
- 45:10Speaker 1: of vetting. Nobody thought it was a problem. Right, it's
- 45:15Speaker 1: not like it went straight from Jimmy Kimmel's mind into
- 45:18Speaker 1: the teleprompter. No, no, no.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Correct, it's not like a weird stand-up moment.
- 45:22Speaker 1: No, right, this is not like.
- 45:24Speaker 2: A hot mic moment or anything like that, right?
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, or like this. The nature of the show
- 45:28Speaker 1: that we're doing right now, our content does not pass
- 45:30Speaker 1: through a bunch of desks and a bunch of hands
- 45:32Speaker 1: or executives.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Or lawyers.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Or a legal desk or anything to do that. That's
- 45:36Speaker 1: not how this works here. I am fairly certain that
- 45:39Speaker 1: what was going on over there went through levels. And
- 45:42Speaker 1: nobody thought that there was a problem Right? What do
- 45:47Speaker 1: you do when you don't know what is a problem?
- 45:51Speaker 2: What the line is. What the rules are.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Right. And the truth is, because there aren't really rules.
- 45:56Speaker 1: If this is a violation of the rules, nobody can
- 45:59Speaker 1: tell you what the rule is. Look, everything involving Kurt
- 46:02Speaker 1: has just been different than anything that I have ever seen.
- 46:07Speaker 1: I've personally never seen a situation where someone is treated
- 46:11Speaker 1: like a hero and The people who find him heroic
- 46:19Speaker 1: do not quote his words. It is the people who
- 46:22Speaker 1: oppose him who quote his words and are then punished
- 46:26Speaker 1: in some cases for quoting the hero. I've never seen
- 46:32Speaker 1: anything like that. I don't know how to answer for
- 46:35Speaker 1: you what that is. What I do know though is
- 46:42Speaker 1: that will not be the last time an example is made.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Perhaps for very similar reasons that seem to have in
- 46:50Speaker 1: large part to do with merger discussions, which get into
- 46:53Speaker 1: a larger discussion of the role of what happens when
- 46:57Speaker 1: you allow monopoly power to be possible, how then susceptible
- 47:07Speaker 1: the potential monopolists are to the pressure of governmental forces.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Because the possibility of something that approaches monopoly is so valuable.
- 47:21Speaker 1: And then if a company has monopoly power over something
- 47:27Speaker 1: like media, then they are always susceptible. And then when
- 47:32Speaker 1: they are susceptible, the monopolistic operator becomes almost inseparable From
- 47:40Speaker 1: the press.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Becomes the judge, the jury, and at this point, almost
- 47:43Speaker 2: the executioner. Right.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Like, there's a lot of real complex things that I
- 47:47Speaker 1: think come together in this that a lot of people
- 47:50Speaker 1: are not able to quite see because we've let the
- 47:55Speaker 1: monopolistic horse so far... That cat's out of the bag. Yeah,
- 47:59Speaker 1: so bad. Like, it's gotten so far and I don't
- 48:01Speaker 1: think we ever recognized that it was a problem. And
- 48:03Speaker 1: we didn't recognize it was a problem because we're so
- 48:05Speaker 1: dedicated to getting this money that we think the idea
- 48:07Speaker 1: of penalizing somebody for getting too much money We don't
- 48:10Speaker 1: understand the mechanics of it. So it just seems like
- 48:12Speaker 1: you being a hater.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 48:15Speaker 1: And, you know, and then it just goes from there.
- 48:17Speaker 1: So I guess I wrap this all up because God knows,
- 48:21Speaker 1: I mean, fuck around and say the wrong thing. I
- 48:25Speaker 1: wrap this all up in saying that I don't know
- 48:29Speaker 1: how any of us who do this can feel comfortable
- 48:36Speaker 1: right now, because for me personally, The most difficult part
- 48:42Speaker 1: about this is there has been no time in the
- 48:52Speaker 1: 25 years that I have worked in media that I
- 48:55Speaker 1: did not trust my own judgment. Now, there have been
- 48:59Speaker 1: times that maybe I trusted it a little too much,
- 49:03Speaker 1: but I have never not trusted my own judgment. I
- 49:06Speaker 1: do not trust my own judgment right now. And that
- 49:09Speaker 1: is the most uncomfortable place I could ever imagine being
- 49:13Speaker 1: as the professional and the man that I would like
- 49:16Speaker 1: to think that I am. however we also can't be
- 49:25Speaker 1: scared right we don't have to be stupid but we
- 49:29Speaker 1: can't be scared I just don't know what smart is
- 49:33Speaker 1: anymore and that's crazy.
- 49:44Speaker 2: All right, Bo, we're switching gears here. A column in
- 49:46Speaker 2: The Athletic written by friend of the show, David Aldridge.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Can Adam Silver find his resolve with the Kawhi Leonard
- 49:51Speaker 2: and the Clippers? NBA season's about a month away. Obviously,
- 49:55Speaker 2: there have been a lot of rumblings and reportings about
- 49:58Speaker 2: Kawhi and Steve Ballmer trying to potentially skirt the rules
- 50:02Speaker 2: of the cap. Adam Silver has had limited public comments
- 50:06Speaker 2: on this. Said about a week ago, I frankly never
- 50:09Speaker 2: heard of the company Aspiration before. And I never heard
- 50:13Speaker 2: a whiff of anything around an endorsement deal with Kawhi
- 50:15Speaker 2: or anything around engagement with the Los Angeles Clippers. So
- 50:18Speaker 2: it was all new to me. Bomani, how do you
- 50:21Speaker 2: think the situation resolves itself?
- 50:23Speaker 1: I don't know. And so my old co-host Pablo Torre
- 50:28Speaker 1: on his podcast came across a trove of documents from
- 50:32Speaker 1: this company called Aspiration that turned out to be A scam.
- 50:37Speaker 1: It looks like the guy that was running the place
- 50:39Speaker 1: is going to wind up doing a lot of time.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Steve Ballmer invested a lot of money into the company.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Kawhi Leonard signed an endorsement deal with the company for
- 50:50Speaker 1: a lot of money. I want to say $ 28 million.
- 50:53Speaker 1: But the thing was, there were provisions in the deal,
- 50:55Speaker 1: a deal that they didn't really tell anybody about. And
- 50:58Speaker 1: there were provisions in the deal that said that Kawhi
- 51:00Speaker 1: didn't actually have to do any work in order to
- 51:04Speaker 1: get the money. So you have Ballmer putting money into
- 51:09Speaker 1: a company that ultimately gives money to Kawhi Leonard where
- 51:14Speaker 1: he doesn't necessarily have to work. Okay. Here's the thing
- 51:21Speaker 1: for me, right? There is something fishy going on, I
- 51:28Speaker 1: think is a fair point to make. Now, Pablo has.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Said that there is not room to question his team's
- 51:43Speaker 1: reporting on the matter. I think the exact words he
- 51:47Speaker 1: used is that if you question the reporting, you're kind
- 51:49Speaker 1: of showing your ass. Okay. I do not, or at
- 51:54Speaker 1: the very least as of now, I'm not inclined to
- 51:56Speaker 1: question the reporting. I don't believe that the documents and
- 52:00Speaker 1: things that they produced are false. I think that those
- 52:03Speaker 1: things are true The question is, is the fishy smell
- 52:14Speaker 1: coming from, like, what kind of fish are we talking
- 52:18Speaker 1: about here? You understand what I mean? I am not
- 52:23Speaker 1: sure as of now that whatever was going on was
- 52:28Speaker 1: for the purpose of circumventing the salary cap. I think
- 52:31Speaker 1: that it is possible, but I don't think that has
- 52:34Speaker 1: not been shown to me definitively. I would never dare
- 52:36Speaker 1: come out here and say, oh no, they definitely weren't
- 52:39Speaker 1: skirting the cap. Maybe they were, but that's not the
- 52:43Speaker 1: conclusion that I have drawn from the information that has
- 52:46Speaker 1: been presented as of now. I'm not quite there yet, right?
- 52:52Speaker 1: Here's the problem for Adam Silver. I'll tell you who
- 52:55Speaker 1: is there. People who cover the NBA Right? Like to me,
- 53:03Speaker 1: this is a very internet story as it stands right now.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I don't have a great handle on how much the
- 53:08Speaker 1: average NBA fan cares about this. Like this feels more
- 53:11Speaker 1: like an old NCAA scandal than it does to a
- 53:14Speaker 1: basketball scandal. If you were to ask.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Yeah, unfortunately we can't do bowl bans and vacate former wins. Right, right.
- 53:20Speaker 1: But I mean, but there are things you could do.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Like the Joe Smith salary cap scandal of 25 years ago,
- 53:25Speaker 1: they took five first round picks away from the Timberwolves, right?
- 53:28Speaker 1: My question is, if you were to ask the average
- 53:31Speaker 1: NBA fan on the street if they know about the
- 53:34Speaker 1: Timberwolves and the Joe Smith Capstar Convention, I don't think
- 53:37Speaker 1: they know about it. You understand what I'm saying? I
- 53:41Speaker 1: don't have a great handle on whether the median NBA
- 53:45Speaker 1: fan cares that much about this story. But I know
- 53:50Speaker 1: that the median NBA reporter absolutely does care about this story.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And many of them believe that there were definitely cap
- 54:01Speaker 1: shenanigans that went on here. So if Silver, who has
- 54:06Speaker 1: now turned this over to the NBA, to a law
- 54:09Speaker 1: firm to do an NBA investigation, right? If that investigation
- 54:14Speaker 1: comes back and they don't believe that Ballmer attempted to
- 54:17Speaker 1: circumvent the cap, are the writers who cover the NBA
- 54:24Speaker 1: going to believe that? Or are they going to believe
- 54:28Speaker 1: that the league is covering for this man? And that's
- 54:31Speaker 1: in part just a reflection of the times, man. I've
- 54:34Speaker 1: talked about this many times on this program. It's a
- 54:36Speaker 1: very important thing, which is in our lives, the declining
- 54:39Speaker 1: faith that we have in institutions. Steve Ballmer is a
- 54:42Speaker 1: man worth $ 150 billion. He's the richest owner in sports
- 54:45Speaker 1: in the world. Does the NBA want to make an
- 54:47Speaker 1: enemy with one of the biggest value adds the league
- 54:51Speaker 1: has ever had? That is the question that I think
- 54:54Speaker 1: that people are going to ask themselves if that investigation
- 54:57Speaker 1: comes back and says that the Clippers were not circumventing
- 55:00Speaker 1: the cap. What happens if that's the case? Now, look,
- 55:05Speaker 1: I will tell you this. If the investigation comes back
- 55:08Speaker 1: and they do think the Clippers circumvented the cap, there's
- 55:10Speaker 1: going to be some consequences and repercussions. Please believe that.
- 55:15Speaker 1: That's going to happen. But I don't think there's really
- 55:19Speaker 1: that much for us to talk about right now. Like,
- 55:22Speaker 1: if you want to talk about it right now, it's
- 55:24Speaker 1: just whether or not, as of this moment, whether you
- 55:27Speaker 1: do or do not believe that the Clippers circumvented the
- 55:31Speaker 1: cap based on the information that Pablo has produced. I
- 55:36Speaker 1: believe the line that people say, though, about journalism is
- 55:38Speaker 1: that it's like the first draft of history or something
- 55:40Speaker 1: like that. That is the catalyzing agent. That reporting is
- 55:44Speaker 1: going to prove to be the catalyzing agent that gets
- 55:47Speaker 1: to the part that actually will matter in application. which
- 55:51Speaker 1: is the investigation that the NBA and this law firm
- 55:55Speaker 1: ultimately do.
- 55:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 55:57Speaker 1: And so if you're silver, there's really not much more
- 55:59Speaker 1: you can do. But wait on that investigation. However long
- 56:02Speaker 1: it happens to take. People talk about they need to
- 56:05Speaker 1: take the All-Star Game away from L.A. What are you, high?
- 56:08Speaker 1: All-Star Game is in February. They ain't doing that. Not
- 56:11Speaker 1: on an allegation.
- 56:13Speaker 6: Right.
- 56:14Speaker 1: They don't have enough to do that. No, no, no.
- 56:17Speaker 1: That part's not going to happen. But when the investigation
- 56:20Speaker 1: is done, we're going to find out. And what I
- 56:23Speaker 1: do think is that the league is going to have
- 56:25Speaker 1: to make the findings public. That I 100% believe. No
- 56:29Speaker 1: matter what happens, they can't get away with not showing
- 56:31Speaker 1: people what they find. Correct.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Because I think there is an important part to this
- 56:37Speaker 2: groundswell around the support for the reporting. And that has
- 56:40Speaker 2: a lot to do with a very popular anti-billionaire sentiment
- 56:45Speaker 2: going on. And it is very easy to make an
- 56:48Speaker 2: enemy of Steve Ballmer unless you are Adam Silver.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Well, I think the other part of this sentiment is
- 56:56Speaker 1: the way people feel generally about Kawhi Leonard and specifically
- 57:01Speaker 1: about the idea of his mysterious Uncle Dennis.
- 57:05Speaker 6: Right.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Which is– talk about– shady family members getting impermissible benefits.
- 57:11Speaker 2: This is, this.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Is, but this is my thing about Dennis though. And
- 57:16Speaker 1: I don't know Dennis. I don't never talk to him.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I don't know how shady he is or is not right.
- 57:21Speaker 1: I do firmly believe that he operates on the premise
- 57:23Speaker 1: that the worst thing that you can do is say no.
- 57:26Speaker 1: So he asked for the world, right? Like I have
- 57:29Speaker 1: not heard of him doing anything underhanded. He's just trying
- 57:33Speaker 1: to get every single dime That is possible. He has audacity.
- 57:41Speaker 1: That is his game is audacity. Because he's like, he's
- 57:45Speaker 1: a serious person. I think that's the part that gets
- 57:48Speaker 1: lost in this. And so there are two kinds of
- 57:49Speaker 1: like these family members that you wind up in the
- 57:52Speaker 1: college sports situation. It's the kind that don't know nothing
- 57:55Speaker 1: about the game. So they just come in, bull in
- 57:57Speaker 1: a china shop, ask you for all the money. And
- 57:59Speaker 1: it's the people who know everything about the game. And
- 58:02Speaker 1: that's why they come in, bull in a china shop,
- 58:04Speaker 1: ask you for all the money. And he appears to
- 58:06Speaker 1: be the latter.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and that has gone consistent with the time with
- 58:10Speaker 2: the Raptors, you know, asking for equity in the team,
- 58:12Speaker 2: asking for.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on. He asked for equity in the
- 58:15Speaker 1: Maple Leafs. He was like, I know y'all can't get
- 58:18Speaker 1: me in this, that's fine, but what about the other one?
- 58:22Speaker 1: How'd that sound?
- 58:24Speaker 2: Speaking of something you have lots of things to say about,
- 58:26Speaker 2: Complex released their top 50 greatest rap songs about sex.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Number five, UGK, Take It Off. Number four, Cardi B
- 58:33Speaker 2: featuring Madigan and Sally in a WAP. Number three... Well, Wayne,
- 58:37Speaker 2: Wally Pop, number two, Ludacris, What's Your Fantasy? And number one, Tupac, Temptations. Bo,
- 58:42Speaker 2: I tried to sound like not the whitest person in
- 58:44Speaker 2: the world while I was reading this list. Bo, your thoughts.
- 58:47Speaker 1: So this is what's interesting about the list is I
- 58:49Speaker 1: immediately looked at who wrote it, and it's obviously people
- 58:51Speaker 1: who are much younger than me. Though, if you look
- 58:54Speaker 1: at the songs that you rattled off there for the
- 58:58Speaker 1: top five. Okay, Rhymes, let me make sure I heard
- 58:59Speaker 1: it straight. You got UGK's Take It Off, WAP. What
- 59:03Speaker 1: was number three?
- 59:04Speaker 2: Wally Pop.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Lollipop, number two.
- 59:06Speaker 2: What's your fantasy?
- 59:07Speaker 1: And then Temptations by Tupac was number one. one. Yeah.
- 59:11Speaker 1: So like three of those songs are 25 years old.
- 59:15Speaker 1: One of them is damn near 20 years old. And
- 59:18Speaker 1: the other one is like five years old. I don't
- 59:21Speaker 1: agree with any of that, just to be clear. But
- 59:24Speaker 1: it's hard for me to like, it's somewhat difficult to
- 59:27Speaker 1: make the all you young people don't know anything argument
- 59:29Speaker 1: because damn, you apparently know a lot more than I
- 59:31Speaker 1: thought you did if you pulled it. Now, I will
- 59:33Speaker 1: give them this. Did you see what number six was?
- 59:36Speaker 2: I did not. I can pull that up, write numbers.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Number six, if I recall, should have been number one
- 59:42Speaker 1: to me. And that was Digital Underground, Freak City Industries.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Like that was, that was the one they had there.
- 59:51Speaker 1: They had a couple that I was surprised. It was
- 59:53Speaker 1: Freaks of the Industry was number six.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Like, for example, I was surprised that Biggie, One More Chance,
- 59:59Speaker 1: the album version was not there. I was really surprised
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: that there was nothing for Big Pun, particularly I'm Not
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: a Player, not the remix, the first one, right?
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: I was surprised we got a single R. Kelly song
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: because I figured it was a biggie joint. Yeah, it's
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: a tough one.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I also don't like that song. Like if you
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: wanted to go with Biggie's sex songs, you could have
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: come up with better ones than that, right? And look, Megan,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: these lists are hard. All of that, I understand it.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: But I will tell you this, as I was going
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: through all those songs about sex, buddy, there's not a
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: dollop of romance to be found anywhere. And the reason
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I'm disappointed that there is no romance on there is
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: because it means that they missed another top five Rap
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: sex song and rap sex songs are all about sex.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: But there was one that has some romance to it
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: and he didn't have it. And I actually think that
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: it should have been number two on this list. And
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: that is 8 Ball and MJG. Space age pimping. I
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: could not believe. And again, we're asking a lot of
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: these people in doing the list, but at least that
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: one got a little bit of romance and actual sexiness
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: to it. What's the ghost phrase? What's the ghost? Is
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: it Wildflower? Where it's just like, yo, yo, brother, chill out, man.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: It doesn't sound like it would be any fun for
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the young lady at all.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: The interesting thing of making a list about songs about
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: sex is everything is kind of about sex.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Correct.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: And so, like, everything is, like, they had to be
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: songs that were all quite literal.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Yes, like Freaky Tales, for example, is on that list.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: They had a couple of NWA, Eazy-E songs, and it's like, ugh,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: this is actually making me a little guilty about some
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: of the things that I've listened to at various points
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: in my life. I was just like, ugh, I don't
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: really know. And by the way, if we are just
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: going to go with our favorite crass rap songs, whatever
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: happened to When I met you last night, baby. Ain't
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: no fun is nowhere to be found. Like, look, again,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: this is a very difficult job, but I feel like
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: y'all missed some staples, right? While somehow missing staples, while
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: coming with some amazingly deep cuts. But ain't no fun
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the homies can't have done. That one is, that's, it's
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: kind of hard not to put that one there.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: All right, Bo, we opened up the voicemail line. Got
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: some good ones always. Let's take a look.
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: Hey, Bo, first-time, long-time listener. Justin is Blue Lakers boy,
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: and Barry Switzer is one of one.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: They don't make him anymore. He understands very.
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: Well how dominant his mid-80s teams were, but only won
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: one title because Jimmy Johnson's Miami team.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: What's your favorite four- to five-year stretch of college football
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: in your lifetime?
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: And also, to.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Close out, Tebow Mania.
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: Phillip Rivers allows Broncos to win the division at 8-8,
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: so he.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Can't be a Hall of Famer later.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: That is an incredibly fair point on Phillip Rivers. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: And in fact, as I recall, the first Tebow Mania
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: game was against the Chargers. The Broncos didn't win, but
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Tebow walked them down, and that was on Phillip Rivers' watch. Okay,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: so Texas was my team, so I would say that
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: the five-year run from 2005 to 2009 was That was,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you know, two national championship games. The Vince Young, the
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: full ascension of Vince Young. Yeah, we had that one.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: But the truth is, man, even if I was just
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: real little when it happened, you had to be here
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: for like 1987 through 1990 water tour to you. It
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: is impossible to believe that that was real. People my
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: age can actually say that things were wilder in our
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: day than they are now. We look back and it's like, man,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: them cats was out there doing it. Just the whole idea,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the idea that the players looked up and realized, no,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: we actually have all the power here. What are you
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: going to do? You want this money. You want these applications.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: We run this. And the school having to kind of
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: be like, all right, all right. All right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: It's just the juxtaposition of Miami, the city, Jimmy Johnson,
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: the person, Mike Lurvin, the person.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: And that just cascades all of it.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Well, yeah, then Jimmy leaves and Dennis Erickson comes in
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: and those dudes immediately recognize, we got this.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: I told you offline that I actually ended up at
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: the Miami football bar here in New York. My wife
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: asked me, why is it like this? I was like,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: I don't have the time. Since we're here with other people,
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I don't have the 90 minutes to explain this to you.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Well, Miami is a... All things Miami are a different world.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: But keep in mind, while that's happening with Miami, Florida
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: State is also happening. So there's like a Miami-like version.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: And if Florida State fans are honest, it was the U. Like,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: y'all were very, very good, but y'all didn't take it
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: as far. Y'all were U-ish, but not quite.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: All the way there.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: All right, Bo, here's our next one.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Bo, okay, I'm going to set the scene because I
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: feel like every man has experienced this.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: And I just want to know.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: If it's happened to you, and if so, what was it?
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: So you're hanging out with your lady, and you show
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: her a movie, a TV show. You put on an album,
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: something that's important to you, some piece of art that's
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: important to you. And it's really obvious that she's just
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: not feeling it. Happened to me a couple weeks ago.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: I'm a particular fan of the band, the Mars Volta.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: If you haven't checked them out, it bangs.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: I promise you. Put it on that fancy stereo system
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: you got. But anyway, she was just not feeling the
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Mars Volta. After 15 minutes, I'm like, okay, let me
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: put on a couple other songs, some of the deep cuts,
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: you know, and she just wasn't feeling it. So I
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: know this has happened to every man. I'm positive. So
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: has it happened to you? What was it? You know,
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: shed a little bit of light on that.
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: Appreciate the show.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: So, Ryan, he's basically asking, like, he was trying to
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: get his woman into it, and it wasn't working. If
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I had any advice, I don't be trying to get
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: people into nothing. I'm going to play it, and if
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: you say it's jamming, I'm going to tell you some more.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: But you're not going to get yourself anywhere by going
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: any farther.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: You can't convince people to like what you like. Either
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: they'll like it or they won't.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Yes, that is it. No, no, no, no, no. Let
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: her have it.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: Let her have it. And once you realize... that it's
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: not working, bail immediately.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: If the first thing you thought of didn't work, I
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: promise you the second and third thing won't either.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no. Generally speaking, you just play it and
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: as long as it don't get on, what is that?
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: You good. Just ride it out.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: All right, Bo, here's our last one.
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: Hey, Bo, my name is Josh calling from Peavey County, Maryland.
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: And I just had a quick question about The Wire
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: because I watched it this summer and it's probably the
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: most amazing thing I've ever seen. But I feel like
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: your hatred towards Schringer Bell should be more aimed at Marlo.
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: Because if I'm correct, you think Schringer Bell is the worst.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: He is the worst.
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: But wasn't Marlo just as bad? So I'm just curious.
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: I just want to know your thoughts.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: Love the show. Have a good one.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: See, there's a difference between me and you. You want
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: a motherfucker to lie to you. That's the only explanation
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: for this. Like, look, here it is. I ain't never
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: say Marlo was no good guy. Marlo was terrible. I
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: hope Marlo caught on fire. But Marlo was what he
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: said he was. My problem with Stringer Bell. My problem
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: with Stringer Bell was Stringer Bell's out there being terrible.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: And I promise you, Ryan, you ain't been around this long.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Maybe you've seen this from the outskirts. But I feel
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: very confident. I turned the tide on the way a
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: lot of people felt about Stringer Bill. Maybe not everybody,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: but I used to be the only person out here.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: You're calling yourself an influencer.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: All I'm saying is this. When it started, I was
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: on an island. I was there by myself talking about
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Stringer Bill. I look up now and it's Tiki Torches.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: It's like a goddamn resort. at this motherfucker. I built
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: a hotel and the people showed up. You know what
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I'm saying? But when this first started, it was all
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: me by myself and a bunch of white people out
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: here talking about, no, he wanted to be more than
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: a drug dealer, but he still wanted to sell drugs.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying? He never wanted to stop
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: selling drugs. He just didn't want to be the one
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: who sold them with his own hands. He always wanted
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: to sell drugs, but he wanted to be a real
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: estate broker. What's the honor in that? What are we
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: talking about? So yeah, it's not just that my anger
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: is not strictly aimed at Stringer Bell. It's aimed at
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: All the people that tried to tell.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Me that he was anything other than what he was.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: I value sincerity. And that man was not sincere. And
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: you from PG County, was it Josh? I think his
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: name was Josh. Josh, Justin, Joey.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Whatever your name was, Jimmy. You need to ask yourself.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: how real you are about the truth. Because from what
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: I've heard right there, brother, sounds like you was engaging
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: in some respectability politics. Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, thanks so
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: much for joining us here on The Right Time. Got
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: me heated. We should have done the sex music thing
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: at the end. I would have left here in a
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: better mood. We do this here three times a week.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Brian Brumley handles everything behind the scenes. Thank you, sir. Remember,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: our voicemail line is at 323- 5, 9, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7.

- 1:10:22Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are

- 1:10:25Speaker 1: couple of days. Take it easy.
