- 0:01Speaker 1: Ola Adodos MotoGP heads back to Barcelona, a circuit that
- 0:06Speaker 1: holds many fond memories for some of our riders, i e.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Fabriocordorarro in his first Moto GP victory and some not
- 0:14Speaker 1: so happy ones flash back to Alisia Spargaro celebrating the race,
- 0:19Speaker 1: our lap too early, but in the fight for the
- 0:22Speaker 1: very top step? Can anyone stop Mark Marquees on his
- 0:25Speaker 1: home turf. Welcome back to Pittok sponsored by Shannon's Insurance.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm your host, Rinita Vanmullen, and I've bought along my
- 0:32Speaker 1: partner in Chrime. He's got more hot takes than the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Catalan Sun and can drop Moto GP trivia Fassa. Then
- 0:39Speaker 1: Mark Marquees can go through that pack at the moment.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Matt Clayton, Matt, sorry, I had to give you a
- 0:45Speaker 1: really good intro this time to fill in, because I mean,
- 0:48Speaker 1: what are we gonna say? Mark Marquez is gonna win
- 0:50Speaker 1: in Barcelona?
- 0:51Speaker 2: I don't know about that. Reronetta. Look if I just
- 0:53Speaker 2: go the fist pump and just depart this podcast about
- 0:56Speaker 2: five minutes earlier is because I've got a lap too,
- 0:57Speaker 2: so you know I've done an Alisha Spargo. I'll just
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'll just leave you to close it out. But I
- 1:02Speaker 2: always enjoy this round because it's not what it seems
- 1:06Speaker 2: on paper. It's a bit of an odd one because
- 1:09Speaker 2: of the configuration of the track and the track surface
- 1:11Speaker 2: and what have you, which I'm sure we'll get into.
- 1:13Speaker 2: And it's also it's not really a Mark Marquez stronghold,
- 1:18Speaker 2: and given the form that he's been in for the
- 1:20Speaker 2: last seven rounds, we have to take everything we can
- 1:22Speaker 2: get at this point to think there might be someone
- 1:24Speaker 2: else that could win the Grand Prix this weekend. But
- 1:26Speaker 2: thoroughly looking forward to it because it does throw up
- 1:28Speaker 2: interesting races this place, which I'm sure we're going to
- 1:31Speaker 2: get into in the next twenty five minutes or so.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, And I guess that's one thing I wanted
- 1:35Speaker 1: to talk about, and hopefully our listens are interested to
- 1:39Speaker 1: know about the track surface here, because this is one
- 1:42Speaker 1: of the tracks on the calendar that does overlap with
- 1:46Speaker 1: Formula One to start with. But there's obviously a lot
- 1:48Speaker 1: of other racing that happens here, like the European Championships,
- 1:52Speaker 1: the Spanish Championships, all of that, but they do things
- 1:54Speaker 1: like cycle events here and more car races and events
- 1:58Speaker 1: that we don't know about. But the riders often say
- 2:01Speaker 1: about the surface of this track, it is one of
- 2:04Speaker 1: the more difficult parts to it.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of the busiest tracks in Europe because
- 2:08Speaker 2: of where it is. So I mean, obviously you've been there,
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know where this is. But this is one of
- 2:11Speaker 2: the more accessible tracks compared to major cities in Europe.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It's only about thirty k's outside of Barcelona. God knows.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I've miss to turn off at the circuit about three
- 2:19Speaker 2: hundred times when I've gone there off the freeway. But
- 2:21Speaker 2: it's a super busy track because f one goes there,
- 2:24Speaker 2: sports car goes there, there's always track days going on,
- 2:27Speaker 2: a lot of non motorsport related use as well, so
- 2:30Speaker 2: it's a very busy place. And the track surface itself,
- 2:33Speaker 2: it's just this really weird mix. It's billiard table smooth,
- 2:37Speaker 2: which is great because lasting riders want is bumps everywhere.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Hasn't been resurfaced to my memory, I reckon it's twenty eighteen.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Was the last time it was surface. I'd have to
- 2:47Speaker 2: go and dig that out. I reckon it's twenty eighteen.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And there's something about this track when it gets hot
- 2:52Speaker 2: that it doesn't actually grip up. It becomes even more slippery,
- 2:56Speaker 2: to the point where it's always like riding in the
- 2:57Speaker 2: wet to some degree. There's absolutely no rear grip whatsoever.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And you combine it with the configurations of corners here
- 3:05Speaker 2: there's a lot of really long corners, so you end
- 3:08Speaker 2: up with these really strange races a lot of the
- 3:10Speaker 2: time where they build to a boil.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:14Speaker 2: You have these really really slow build ups and it's
- 3:16Speaker 2: all about you know you're going to run out of
- 3:19Speaker 2: tire at some point, but when do you deploy it.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Do you make a bolt at the start and try
- 3:23Speaker 2: and get a lead that you can't relinquish. Do you
- 3:25Speaker 2: push in the middle part of the race? Do you
- 3:27Speaker 2: have anything left in the last five or six laps?
- 3:29Speaker 2: So you end up with these quite interesting sort of
- 3:32Speaker 2: strategic races that perhaps you don't see anywhere else. But
- 3:35Speaker 2: the number one word you're going to hear what it's
- 3:37Speaker 2: two words you'll hear all weekend from Barcelona. You'll just
- 3:39Speaker 2: hear grip or complete lack thereof, and everyone will just
- 3:42Speaker 2: be talking about spinning the entire time because there is
- 3:44Speaker 2: just absolutely no rear grip at this place, so it
- 3:47Speaker 2: throws up interesting races. But something when I was doing
- 3:51Speaker 2: a little research. I actually do some research occasionally for
- 3:53Speaker 2: this podcast. It's really strange, right, So it's September. Last
- 3:57Speaker 2: year we had two races in Barcelona because the season
- 4:00Speaker 2: n AALI was moved there from Valencia when that region
- 4:02Speaker 2: got flooded. So last year we were there in round
- 4:05Speaker 2: six and Round twenty. So we're there in May and November,
- 4:09Speaker 2: and here we are in September. So you can take
- 4:12Speaker 2: a lot of what happened last year and kind of
- 4:15Speaker 2: throw it out because last year when we were there
- 4:17Speaker 2: in May, it was super hot. When we were there
- 4:19Speaker 2: in November, the sun, as you know, sets megafast in
- 4:23Speaker 2: Barcelona and it goes super cold, and like November in
- 4:25Speaker 2: barcelona's like really pushing it as far as you want
- 4:28Speaker 2: to race there. So you've got this different sort of
- 4:30Speaker 2: set of parameters this weekend. So yeah, we do the
- 4:33Speaker 2: end of season tests there. We had to race there
- 4:35Speaker 2: in round twenty. You had to race there in Round six.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I don't know how much relevance that's got for this
- 4:39Speaker 2: weekend because it kind of feels like it's a bit
- 4:41Speaker 2: of a hard reset because we're here in September. It's weird.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm just looking at the weather forecast, so for example,
- 4:46Speaker 1: it's saying, well, the circuit is it's class as Barcelona,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but it's just outside more in Catalan territory.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, moderl dolars.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well mellow. Yeah, So looking at the weather Friday,
- 4:56Speaker 1: it's saying possible rain a top of twenty three, Sunday
- 5:00Speaker 1: a top of twenty five, and then Sunday a top
- 5:02Speaker 1: of twenty seven. But a lot of bit overcast on Sundays. So,
- 5:05Speaker 1: like you said, that does change everything. And if this
- 5:08Speaker 1: track is slippery and everything we're hearing about this script,
- 5:12Speaker 1: what other writers going to go off? They have all
- 5:14Speaker 1: this data, like they say, But I think it's going
- 5:16Speaker 1: to be a case of who can utilize the tires
- 5:19Speaker 1: their best. And we know that a Prilliers are strong here.
- 5:23Speaker 1: We know that that previously they have won Elisa.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So are we going to see more of Marco Batzeki
- 5:31Speaker 1: this weekend like we have been seeing in those last
- 5:33Speaker 1: few Grand Prix? Is he really going to take it
- 5:35Speaker 1: to Mark Marquez this weekend?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah? This has been in a Prillier track, even when
- 5:39Speaker 2: a brilliant work great at other tracks. He said. In
- 5:41Speaker 2: twenty twenty three they won the sprint and the Grand Prix,
- 5:43Speaker 2: won two in the Grand Prix with the Spargo and
- 5:45Speaker 2: Maverick Vignalez. As much as we were laughing about Alaish
- 5:48Speaker 2: losing count of how many laps there were to go
- 5:50Speaker 2: that one year, which frankly, of all the circuits in
- 5:52Speaker 2: the world, he should know how many laps there are
- 5:54Speaker 2: to go. He's probably done fifty million laps around there.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Because you mentioned Granolia's before, which is literally down the
- 5:59Speaker 2: road from this track, That's where Alasian Pole grew up.
- 6:01Speaker 2: So strange that he wouldn't know how many where the
- 6:03Speaker 2: timing towel was to see the laps counting down. But
- 6:06Speaker 2: this was a good Aprillia track even before Aprillia were
- 6:09Speaker 2: quite decent. We know that Aleish won the sprint there
- 6:11Speaker 2: last year, which was a lot of that was just
- 6:13Speaker 2: Peco making a massive mistake on the last lap and
- 6:15Speaker 2: falling off. But this is a good a Prillia track.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Aprilli has been pretty good for well since Silverston. Since
- 6:22Speaker 2: Berzeki won at Silveston, we've seen the Aprilli has been
- 6:25Speaker 2: right up there. He's been on the podium I think
- 6:26Speaker 2: four times in the last five Grand Prix. And then
- 6:29Speaker 2: you've got the Juge Martine factor in that he's still
- 6:31Speaker 2: so underdone and not necessarily ready for Grand Prix racing
- 6:36Speaker 2: and the bike. But what he did in Hungary last
- 6:38Speaker 2: time out, sixteenth on the grid, fourth in the Grand Prix,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, okay, he's coming maybe faster than we thought.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And if there was ever going to be a Sunday
- 6:49Speaker 2: where Mark is vulnerable, I think it could be here
- 6:51Speaker 2: because of the corner configuration of the track. The Aprilli
- 6:54Speaker 2: is generally very good around here. Their bike is clearly
- 6:56Speaker 2: the second best in Motor GP right now. Bazeki's kind
- 7:00Speaker 2: of back in twenty twenty three. Bez form now like
- 7:03Speaker 2: the best we've ever seen of him, and I still
- 7:05Speaker 2: think that Juge Martin's going to win a race before
- 7:08Speaker 2: this seasons. I just have this feeling that there's going
- 7:11Speaker 2: to be a particular set of circumstances. We know that
- 7:13Speaker 2: the championship's been a total disaster, but the abilities there
- 7:16Speaker 2: in the bikes there we might find out where the
- 7:19Speaker 2: bike's ceiling is, because I think he's the guy most
- 7:21Speaker 2: likely to find it, so I'm actually look the sprint.
- 7:24Speaker 2: If Mark stays on board in the sprint, I think
- 7:25Speaker 2: Mark wins, because that's what happens with sprints in twenty
- 7:28Speaker 2: twenty five, as we've seen so far this year. But
- 7:30Speaker 2: over the longer Grand Prix distance, and because of the
- 7:33Speaker 2: super particular way this track needs to be ridden, I
- 7:36Speaker 2: could see it proorlyer really pushing Mark. The flip side
- 7:39Speaker 2: to this, of course, is that I kind of feel
- 7:42Speaker 2: like Mark's been riding with a little bit left in
- 7:45Speaker 2: the tank the last few rounds, particularly hungry. It kind
- 7:47Speaker 2: of felt like he could have pulled the pin whenever
- 7:49Speaker 2: he really wanted to, so we might get The answer
- 7:51Speaker 2: to the question is also how far fast is Mark
- 7:55Speaker 2: really in that if he really has to push, then
- 7:57Speaker 2: we might see how quick he is, because in Hungary
- 7:59Speaker 2: I kind of thought he was just sort of keeping
- 8:00Speaker 2: guests entertained for the first half of that race before
- 8:02Speaker 2: he disappeared. So I like a prilious chances this weekend,
- 8:06Speaker 2: but I don't think it'll be in the sprint. I
- 8:07Speaker 2: think if it happens, it'd be in the longer race
- 8:10Speaker 2: on the Sunday.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you this later, but I'm going
- 8:14Speaker 1: to ask you now, because this is the home grownd
- 8:17Speaker 1: Prix for many a lot of these Spanish and as
- 8:20Speaker 1: Hangen riders have done millions of laps around their circuit.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Could this be the one the Sunday race where we
- 8:27Speaker 1: see Johei Martin finally back on the metorgp podium in
- 8:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty five.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I could see a podium. Yeah, absolutely. I don't think
- 8:34Speaker 2: he's quite ready to win a race yet, but I
- 8:36Speaker 2: think he's absolutely on course, given his adaptation has been
- 8:41Speaker 2: super fasted, like really impressive. I thought that there'd be
- 8:44Speaker 2: a race like he did in Hungary coming up, but
- 8:46Speaker 2: I didn't think it'd be yet. I thought it might
- 8:48Speaker 2: be until we get to the flyways something like that.
- 8:50Speaker 2: So yeah, absolutely, I could see him on the podium.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But you mentioned the fact that there's so many riders
- 8:55Speaker 2: from in and around this area and they've all done
- 8:57Speaker 2: a million laps here. They've generally all done a million
- 8:59Speaker 2: laps yet Anyway, like whenever Jack Miller does any training
- 9:02Speaker 2: on a proper track when he's not going around go
- 9:04Speaker 2: kart tracks, it's not far to get up to Catalonia
- 9:08Speaker 2: from where he is. All of these guys whether they're
- 9:10Speaker 2: Spanish or not, have done ten million laps around this place,
- 9:13Speaker 2: which is kind of fun because it takes just a
- 9:16Speaker 2: variable out of the equation. It's like there's none of
- 9:18Speaker 2: this unfamiliarity stuff you think of last round at Baloton Park,
- 9:21Speaker 2: nobody knew the track. This track's probably the circuit on
- 9:24Speaker 2: the calendar where these riders, all of them. I can't
- 9:27Speaker 2: think of another track where you would do more laps
- 9:28Speaker 2: than this. Maybe Malaysia because you've been there for preseason testing.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Other than that, they're always here. They know this track
- 9:34Speaker 2: so so well. So it becomes who can read the
- 9:38Speaker 2: condition's best, Who thinks on their feet the best, who
- 9:41Speaker 2: adapts the fastest. You mentioned that weather forecast coming in.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I love the fact that no three days are the same, right,
- 9:47Speaker 2: so you're going to have this sort of like moving
- 9:49Speaker 2: ground beneath you the whole time. Who can improvise the best?
- 9:53Speaker 2: And going back to the Juge Martine question, he's a
- 9:56Speaker 2: guy who and I'll say this politely and it's actually
- 9:59Speaker 2: a comp rather than a criticism. I'm not sure there's
- 10:02Speaker 2: a hell of a lot of thought and historical precedents
- 10:05Speaker 2: going into the way Jullgey Martin rides. I think he's
- 10:07Speaker 2: an instinctive writer. This is a weekend where you need
- 10:10Speaker 2: to just adjust to what it is that you've got
- 10:12Speaker 2: underneath you and perhaps not spend the entire weekend concerned
- 10:16Speaker 2: about or lamenting the fact that you don't have something
- 10:19Speaker 2: at Peco Vanya. So that might be one of those
- 10:22Speaker 2: weekends where the less thinking you do, with the more
- 10:24Speaker 2: riding you do, maybe it's better off for you. And
- 10:26Speaker 2: the more intellectually you try to approach this weekend, the
- 10:29Speaker 2: more you might tell yourself. If knots, I.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Think, yeah, Pecovana into a tea at the moment. Right now, man,
- 10:36Speaker 1: let's talk about the other resurgence that I'm really enjoying
- 10:39Speaker 1: at the moment. A prelier to the side, I will
- 10:41Speaker 1: talk about Pedro Acosta because he's leading the charge for
- 10:45Speaker 1: KTM and I feel like this could be this could
- 10:49Speaker 1: be another strong weekend for him. I'm looking at the
- 10:51Speaker 1: data from last year's race, and Pedro Acosta had the
- 10:53Speaker 1: best race lab, you know, and it wasn't that far
- 10:57Speaker 1: off of Alicias Bugger's pole lab to be fair. That's
- 11:00Speaker 1: in in the Moto GP race. So could we see
- 11:03Speaker 1: another strong Pedro a Costa race this weekend.
- 11:07Speaker 2: It's interesting. I kind of feel that Pedro the first
- 11:10Speaker 2: half of this season. I said, the first eight to
- 11:12Speaker 2: ten rounds, there was so much outside noise going on
- 11:16Speaker 2: with him and with KTM. We know they had their
- 11:18Speaker 2: financial problems over the off season. New parts and things
- 11:21Speaker 2: were slow to arrive on the bike. What's the future
- 11:24Speaker 2: of this team? Who's going to own it, who's going
- 11:25Speaker 2: to buy it out? We know they got themselves into
- 11:27Speaker 2: some financial difficulties. We also know that he was having
- 11:30Speaker 2: his head turned. He was getting super restless. You know
- 11:32Speaker 2: there's links with Ducati. Is he possibly going to Honda?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Is he trying to get into onto a VR forty
- 11:36Speaker 2: six D Catty. It felt like the riding part was fine,
- 11:40Speaker 2: but there was just a lot of outside noise coming
- 11:42Speaker 2: from the team and was his head turn and was
- 11:45Speaker 2: he trying to get out of all of that. I
- 11:46Speaker 2: don't think it's any coincidence that as KTM's got itself
- 11:50Speaker 2: sorted financially. We know that there's been some Indian investment
- 11:53Speaker 2: in that company. Things seem a lot more stable now
- 11:55Speaker 2: from a financial platform, and all of the potential avenues
- 11:59Speaker 2: that he could have gone to have dried up for
- 12:00Speaker 2: the time being, and we've seen this week that VR
- 12:03Speaker 2: forty six is going with the same lineup for next
- 12:05Speaker 2: year with Franque Morberdelli being resigned. That was kind of
- 12:07Speaker 2: his only chance really to get on into Catti the
- 12:10Speaker 2: hont The things closed up because we know that's a
- 12:12Speaker 2: done deal now, and then I think if Honda were
- 12:15Speaker 2: going to look elsewhere, I don't think he's top of
- 12:17Speaker 2: that Q necessarily. I think, well, hey, Martin would be.
- 12:19Speaker 2: So things have kind of stabilized in terms of the
- 12:22Speaker 2: team in the manufacturer and also for him. I don't
- 12:24Speaker 2: think it's any great surprise that his form has started
- 12:28Speaker 2: to go up basically since Bruno when he first got
- 12:30Speaker 2: on that podium. The start of the year was super
- 12:33Speaker 2: disappointing because it felt like he was focused on the
- 12:35Speaker 2: wrong stuff, and we know how good the guys he
- 12:38Speaker 2: had one of the better rookie seasons we've seen in
- 12:40Speaker 2: a while. To me, he's now back to where he
- 12:43Speaker 2: probably should have been at the start of the season.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I don't know if he's made some amazing leap or something.
- 12:46Speaker 2: He's just back in the conversation now we know that
- 12:51Speaker 2: circuit to Catalogia has an enormously long front straight where
- 12:55Speaker 2: top speed then breaking down into turn one is a
- 12:57Speaker 2: really really big deal there. That KATM is an absolute
- 13:00Speaker 2: rocket ship in a straight line. It's motor Chip's fastest
- 13:03Speaker 2: bike in a straight line. It's all about for me.
- 13:06Speaker 2: If he can qualify on the first couple of rows,
- 13:09Speaker 2: I think he's going to be a major player on Sunday.
- 13:12Speaker 2: He has this bit of a propensity to mess up
- 13:16Speaker 2: Q three a little bit when he's been a Q
- 13:18Speaker 2: two Rather I'm going forward the right here Q two
- 13:21Speaker 2: when he's had a good weekend. You look at Hungary
- 13:23Speaker 2: last time out. He was fastest on Friday, he was
- 13:25Speaker 2: right up there on Saturday and then chucked it in.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Q two started too far back. He's on the third row.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Never really got a chance to do something in the sprint,
- 13:32Speaker 2: fell off, came through the pack and had a good
- 13:34Speaker 2: Grand Prix and finished second in the end. But I
- 13:37Speaker 2: think his weekend was he put a seiing on himself
- 13:40Speaker 2: because he made the mistake at the important part of
- 13:42Speaker 2: the weekend. If he gets up the front, he's clearly
- 13:44Speaker 2: the best KTM ryder right now because Vignalees is half fit.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Brad Binder he's had not a great year by Brad
- 13:50Speaker 2: Binder standards, fast you need. He's coming on, but he's
- 13:52Speaker 2: coming from a fair way back. So yeah, I wouldn't
- 13:54Speaker 2: be surprised at all to see a Costa right up there.
- 13:57Speaker 2: But you know what's interesting, and I'm sure you're probably
- 13:59Speaker 2: going to bring this up. I wrote earlier in the
- 14:02Speaker 2: week for Fox Sports dot com dot AU that we
- 14:05Speaker 2: talk about the Ducatti Cup at the start of the season,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and if you look at the headline results to Caadi
- 14:10Speaker 2: is still winning everything because I've got Buck Marquez riding
- 14:12Speaker 2: for them. But you look at where the other Ducaties
- 14:15Speaker 2: are relative to where they were at the start of
- 14:17Speaker 2: the season. If you're on a Ducati in the first
- 14:19Speaker 2: five rounds, you're probably finishing in the top five of
- 14:21Speaker 2: the Grand Prix, because they are all finishing in the
- 14:23Speaker 2: top five in the Grand Prix. But we've got fourteen
- 14:26Speaker 2: minutes into this podcast and we've talked about Joge Martin,
- 14:28Speaker 2: We've talked about Marco Batzeki, We've talked about Pedro Acosta.
- 14:31Speaker 2: There's different brands that are getting in the mix. Now,
- 14:35Speaker 2: you quoted that stat the last time we did a
- 14:37Speaker 2: pod where there were four manufacturers in the first five
- 14:39Speaker 2: finishes at a Grand Prix for the first time in
- 14:41Speaker 2: two years when we're in Hungary. Last time. It's still
- 14:44Speaker 2: Marques and a Ducati up front, but the configuration of
- 14:48Speaker 2: what's behind him has really changed from probably Silverston onwards.
- 14:52Speaker 2: That's really exciting as a neutral because quite frankly, you
- 14:55Speaker 2: and I don't care who wins. We just want to
- 14:56Speaker 2: see a good contest. We want to see it be entertaining.
- 15:00Speaker 2: And I like the fact that, yeah, Dcati's still winning
- 15:03Speaker 2: everything because I've got the best rider in motor GP.
- 15:05Speaker 2: But it's not a foregone conclusion anymore as to who's
- 15:08Speaker 2: going to be making up the podium and challenging for polls.
- 15:10Speaker 2: We've seen that, so a cost is part of that mix,
- 15:13Speaker 2: but I think it's a wider mix now where you
- 15:15Speaker 2: can't just turn up at a track and go, oh, yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 2: Decatti's going to lock out the podium here because it's
- 15:19Speaker 2: not happening as often as it was.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I'm literally looking at the championship standings right now as
- 15:24Speaker 1: we speak, and you're smack bang on the points. So yeah, okay,
- 15:27Speaker 1: the first three are do you caddies, and we know
- 15:29Speaker 1: that it's Mark Marquez, obviously Alex Marquez who had that
- 15:32Speaker 1: incredible strong start to the year that surprised us all
- 15:35Speaker 1: and obviously things have changed, and Peco Baannoya because there
- 15:38Speaker 1: was that consistency of him being third overall for that
- 15:42Speaker 1: first half of the year. Right. Then we get to
- 15:45Speaker 1: fourth position, Marco Bezekion Aprilia Pedro Cossa in fifth on
- 15:48Speaker 1: the ktm Okay. Yeah, then a couple more of the
- 15:52Speaker 1: the JU caddies, but Fabio Digi Antonio who's on the
- 15:56Speaker 1: same bike as Mark Marquez, He's currently in seventh. Then
- 15:59Speaker 1: let's go further down. We've got Zako in ninth for Honda,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and rounding out in tent is faber Corduro. So the
- 16:06Speaker 1: top six as we assumed it was going to be
- 16:09Speaker 1: for did you caddy Cup? It's not that You caddy Cup.
- 16:13Speaker 1: There's there's a few little hints and sprinkles of other
- 16:16Speaker 1: manufacturers in there.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely. Since Berzeki won at Silveston, he has scored
- 16:21Speaker 2: the second most points on the grid in that span,
- 16:23Speaker 2: more than Alex Marquez has other than Mark, and over
- 16:26Speaker 2: the last four rounds, I think it's Mark ahead of Berzeki,
- 16:29Speaker 2: ahead of a Costa. So you've only got one to
- 16:31Speaker 2: caddie in the top three since Bruno, So it's definitely changing.
- 16:35Speaker 2: And I think maybe we're not noticing it as much
- 16:37Speaker 2: because we look up and Mark Marquez is on a
- 16:39Speaker 2: fourteenth race winning streak. He this is becoming a lot
- 16:43Speaker 2: more now about I don't know if the bike's making
- 16:46Speaker 2: the difference, the ultimate difference anymore. I think Mark is,
- 16:48Speaker 2: and not necessarily because Mark's level has dropped. He's just
- 16:51Speaker 2: stayed exactly where he's been all year. But look at
- 16:53Speaker 2: where alex is, look at where Peco is. The VR
- 16:56Speaker 2: forty sixty caddies, it always seems like one of them
- 16:58Speaker 2: has a decent weekend, but never both of them at
- 17:01Speaker 2: the same time. I mean, Digia was pretty unlucky and
- 17:03Speaker 2: hungary because he had that electronics glitch on the on
- 17:06Speaker 2: the grid, probably would have fished top four in that race.
- 17:09Speaker 2: But this it doesn't feel like there's that same ever
- 17:12Speaker 2: present du Catti lockout now of these top four or
- 17:15Speaker 2: five positions, and it's what we want to see, and
- 17:18Speaker 2: someone like a resurgent Acosta or Bazeki who's just unlocked
- 17:21Speaker 2: this super consistent run. It just adds to the mix
- 17:25Speaker 2: and yeah, we know who's gonna be world champion. Let's
- 17:27Speaker 2: be honest, there's no intrigue here. But the back end
- 17:29Speaker 2: of the season is going to be interesting to see
- 17:31Speaker 2: how this narrative plays out. Du Cati Cup or not
- 17:34Speaker 2: du Catti Cup. We've got eight rounds to find out.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Can we just talk about the fact of Let's tell
- 17:39Speaker 1: her like the storytelling side of it. Take it away
- 17:41Speaker 1: from the racetrack for a minute of the sprint in
- 17:44Speaker 1: Hungary where it was Mark Marquez and the two VR
- 17:46Speaker 1: forty six's and I don't know if you saw that
- 17:48Speaker 1: clip that Moto GP posted Matt where it was the
- 17:52Speaker 1: you know how they all get in the back of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the car because they take them to the podium, which
- 17:56Speaker 1: is normally where the fan z owners. And there was
- 17:59Speaker 1: Digitia who was talking to Mark, and that was Morbidelli
- 18:02Speaker 1: who was just looking out the window. And you can
- 18:05Speaker 1: definitely tell where Morbidelli's alliance lies within the whole forty
- 18:10Speaker 1: six and then ninety three.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I love those videos. Well, two things to me. Can
- 18:15Speaker 2: we get a bigger car for them to sit into?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Why are there three adults sprammed into the back of
- 18:21Speaker 2: a car like I'm not getting in the back of
- 18:22Speaker 2: a car with two other adults, like what I was
- 18:24Speaker 2: sitting in the front, So one get a bigger car
- 18:26Speaker 2: or a bigger car sponsor. I don't know what that is,
- 18:29Speaker 2: but those videos are so funny, not because of what
- 18:32Speaker 2: is said. It is because of what is not said.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And you need a body language.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Oh I love reading a bit of body language, like
- 18:37Speaker 2: Morbidelli was just looking at the window like he could
- 18:40Speaker 2: wait to get out of the car. And if you've
- 18:42Speaker 2: been around Fabio jan Antonio, he's literally the nicest guy
- 18:45Speaker 2: at motor GP. He will talk to you forever, so
- 18:48Speaker 2: he's happy to start a conversation with anyone, whether it's
- 18:51Speaker 2: Mark or not. And you could kind of tell Mark
- 18:53Speaker 2: was sitting in the middle of these two, but it
- 18:55Speaker 2: was a little bit on the awkward side. It was
- 18:57Speaker 2: so funny to watch because he's not just sitting there
- 18:59Speaker 2: with his brother, sitting there with Pecko looking sad that
- 19:01Speaker 2: he's been beaten again. There's just so much interesting body
- 19:05Speaker 2: language at a ninety second video. I always make a
- 19:07Speaker 2: point of watching them, but I never really necessarily listen
- 19:10Speaker 2: to what's being said. With my not particularly great Spanish
- 19:13Speaker 2: or reading subtitles. I just love watching the body language
- 19:16Speaker 2: between the three of them. That one was super interesting.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I'm glad you picked up on that.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I loved it. And then when obviously I
- 19:22Speaker 1: saw Frankie was resigning R forty six, and I've replayed
- 19:25Speaker 1: that video in my head and I'm like, yep, we
- 19:28Speaker 1: know where his alliance lies on.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Oh yes, oh yes.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But before we round out this weekend, we obviously have
- 19:34Speaker 1: to talk about Jack Miller because we are waiting for
- 19:37Speaker 1: the announcement of whether Jack is resigning with Yamaha for
- 19:40Speaker 1: next year or if he's going to go to well Superbanks. Matt,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you obviously have the inside knowledge within the paddock. Have
- 19:48Speaker 1: you heard any updates? Do you think we'll get an
- 19:49Speaker 1: announcement this weekend?
- 19:51Speaker 2: So let's go behind the curtain here. I sin, I
- 19:55Speaker 2: thought it was gonna happen Tuesday night, so we speaking
- 19:57Speaker 2: Thursday morning. I sent someone who would know a message
- 20:00Speaker 2: and said, just asking for a friend, but do I
- 20:03Speaker 2: need to stay up past midnight tonight to write a
- 20:05Speaker 2: Jack Miller has resigned with Pramak Gamaha story. And the
- 20:09Speaker 2: response I got was tell your friend they could have
- 20:11Speaker 2: it early night it's not happening tonight, so I did
- 20:13Speaker 2: have it early night. It was great. But I think
- 20:17Speaker 2: what this now comes down to, and this is something
- 20:19Speaker 2: that we talked about off air a little while ago,
- 20:21Speaker 2: and I'm not going to reveal any secrets here, but
- 20:23Speaker 2: I think it's going to happen. I think the timing
- 20:26Speaker 2: of this now, because it has been pushed and pushed
- 20:28Speaker 2: and pushed. Would it not make sense that this gets
- 20:31Speaker 2: announced at Massano, given that it's Pramac's home round, It's
- 20:34Speaker 2: the race that they it's the race that they have
- 20:37Speaker 2: the greatest sort of commercial ties to, it's a home
- 20:39Speaker 2: race of paler Cabernati in that team. I don't think
- 20:42Speaker 2: there's any great conjecture as to the fact that it's
- 20:44Speaker 2: going to be Jack because you look at all the
- 20:45Speaker 2: other moves that have happened in the rider market in
- 20:47Speaker 2: the past two weeks on the superbike side and the
- 20:51Speaker 2: Motor GP side. So this week in Motor GP we've
- 20:53Speaker 2: had Jones Ziico signed for twenty six and twenty seven.
- 20:56Speaker 2: That's interesting. We'll get hum back to that. Lukamurini signed
- 20:59Speaker 2: at Honda for next year. Franco Morbidelli confirmed at VR
- 21:01Speaker 2: forty six for next year. But then you look at
- 21:03Speaker 2: the potential avenues where other guys have signed superbikes like
- 21:06Speaker 2: iketh Le q Oona. We know that Johnny Ray's retiring,
- 21:09Speaker 2: Bautista's moving, sam Low's is heading over Sam Low's, Jake
- 21:14Speaker 2: Dixon is heading over. Got my British riders confused. There's
- 21:18Speaker 2: a lot of other dominoes in this that have fallen
- 21:20Speaker 2: where we kind of thought. So now we're just literally
- 21:23Speaker 2: waiting on two announcements that are kind of in the
- 21:26Speaker 2: done deal category, and I don't know which one will
- 21:28Speaker 2: come first, But it looks like the Diogo Morrera thing
- 21:30Speaker 2: to Honda is happening because both Yamaha and Honda wanted Marrera.
- 21:35Speaker 2: It looks like Honda have offered more years and full
- 21:37Speaker 2: factory status, which makes sense. And right now, if you're Marrera,
- 21:41Speaker 2: you're sitting there, you're thinking, I get to choose between
- 21:43Speaker 2: a Honda and a Yamaha. I reckon twelve months ago
- 21:46Speaker 2: that was a bit of a toss of the coin. Now,
- 21:49Speaker 2: I think Honda's shown more progress to me this year
- 21:52Speaker 2: than Yamaha has, and with the uncertainty of this whole
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yamaha V four thing, do you go with Honda, Yeah,
- 21:58Speaker 2: you probably do. That's a that we know is going
- 22:00Speaker 2: to fall. And then I think, I don't think Jack
- 22:03Speaker 2: keeps his seat at Pramac by default, necessarily because I
- 22:08Speaker 2: I've written this in the last couple of weeks. There's
- 22:10Speaker 2: a very sort of specific job requirement that he fills
- 22:14Speaker 2: because they are fast tracking this V four. You look
- 22:17Speaker 2: at the other riders in the Yamaha stable for next year.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Fabio Couaturero has never ridden a V four in his life,
- 22:23Speaker 2: Alex Ridds has done one or half of a season
- 22:26Speaker 2: when he got injured at Honda in twenty twenty three
- 22:28Speaker 2: and then left to go and right at Yamaha, and
- 22:30Speaker 2: Top Brack has never ridden a moor GP bike other
- 22:33Speaker 2: than a test at a race weekend. Yet, so three
- 22:35Speaker 2: quarters of your rider lineup have a grand total of
- 22:38Speaker 2: seven races on a V four between them, and you're
- 22:40Speaker 2: trying to bring this new bike in. Who's Jack Miller
- 22:43Speaker 2: written for? He is written for Honda V four, written
- 22:45Speaker 2: for Dacadi V four, written for KTM V four. Vastly
- 22:49Speaker 2: experienced knows how these engines work. The fact they could
- 22:53Speaker 2: have gone into next year with two rookies at Pramac
- 22:56Speaker 2: Alex Ridds has done half a dozen races on a
- 22:58Speaker 2: V four and Coaturo's ridden one that to me doesn't
- 23:02Speaker 2: align with trying to bring the V four project along
- 23:04Speaker 2: to make it your preferred engine of choice. So it's
- 23:07Speaker 2: a really specific job description if you like, like if
- 23:10Speaker 2: you're applying for a job through some website or what
- 23:12Speaker 2: have you. Jack has more of the boxes ticked on
- 23:15Speaker 2: that job description than a lot of other guys. And
- 23:18Speaker 2: you think, okay, Miguel Olivera's written some V fours as well,
- 23:20Speaker 2: which he has, but then you look at the points
- 23:23Speaker 2: table and it's been absolutely one way traffic this year. Yes,
- 23:25Speaker 2: Olivera's had some injury issues even when he's been fit.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I think he's out qualified Jack once all season. I
- 23:31Speaker 2: think it's fifty two to ten in the points all season.
- 23:34Speaker 2: So it's pretty clear which of those two writers should
- 23:36Speaker 2: be retained. So no, we don't have the announcement yet,
- 23:38Speaker 2: frustratingly because we all want it. I'm sure Jack wants
- 23:41Speaker 2: it as well, but I'll be really keen to see
- 23:44Speaker 2: what he's like in his pre event press availability at
- 23:46Speaker 2: Cassialounia on Thursday night, Australian time, because in Hungary he
- 23:50Speaker 2: was annoyed. He was really angsty about everything. I think
- 23:53Speaker 2: there would have been some conversations behind the scenes there,
- 23:56Speaker 2: just like look, just chill out here, we've got you,
- 23:58Speaker 2: this is fine. I think he's demeanor will be really
- 24:01Speaker 2: interesting in his press debriefs at CATALOONYA. What wouldn't surprise
- 24:04Speaker 2: me at all is if he gets on the front
- 24:06Speaker 2: foot with this this weekend, instead of waiting for the
- 24:09Speaker 2: inevitable question to be asked by one of the press pack,
- 24:12Speaker 2: he'll sit down and he'll go, yeah, look, no news
- 24:15Speaker 2: on the contract yet, but I've been told it's all
- 24:16Speaker 2: heading in the right direction. So when I have some yews,
- 24:19Speaker 2: I'll let you guys know. And they just put that
- 24:21Speaker 2: thing to bed instead of answering four or five questions
- 24:24Speaker 2: about it and getting increasingly agitated like he did in
- 24:27Speaker 2: Hungary last time out. There's an art to winning the
- 24:30Speaker 2: press conference if you like. I reckon that he will
- 24:33Speaker 2: go in there and be quite on the front foot
- 24:35Speaker 2: about this and just put that thing to bed. We
- 24:36Speaker 2: have the race weekend, then maybe we get to Masato
- 24:40Speaker 2: teams home race or sorted and everyone just gets on
- 24:42Speaker 2: with life. But yeah, that's a story. I thought I
- 24:44Speaker 2: would have written this week already, but apparently not.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I saw a video once again that Moto GP posted,
- 24:50Speaker 1: and they asked Jack, oh, is there a question that
- 24:52Speaker 1: you were just over being asked like you just want
- 24:55Speaker 1: to be put to bed? And he goes, what am
- 24:57Speaker 1: I doing next year? I answered that question, and then
- 25:01Speaker 1: they said to him, do you remember that viral video
- 25:03Speaker 1: last year where they found Jack had his blindfold on
- 25:07Speaker 1: and he put his hands in a box and there
- 25:08Speaker 1: was nothing there, and he goes, oh, is this my
- 25:09Speaker 1: contracts for twenty twenty five?
- 25:12Speaker 2: It's so funny. And this is where this is where
- 25:14Speaker 2: we love Jack from a media point of view, in
- 25:16Speaker 2: that he's this whole one year things not unusual to him.
- 25:19Speaker 2: If I'm remembering rightly, I think he only ever had
- 25:21Speaker 2: one multi year contract that was with KATM and one
- 25:25Speaker 2: sees it into that contract he was being asked when
- 25:27Speaker 2: he was getting booted for Pedro Acosta, which we as
- 25:29Speaker 2: we know that ended up happening, So this is not
- 25:31Speaker 2: unfamiliar territory for him. But this is where Jack's such
- 25:34Speaker 2: an asset to Motor GP in that Jack never ducks
- 25:37Speaker 2: a question and sometimes I can imagine if you're working
- 25:40Speaker 2: in the press department for his team, you'd have your
- 25:42Speaker 2: head in your hands. And some of these questions because
- 25:43Speaker 2: Jack only has the truth filter. There's no other filter.
- 25:46Speaker 2: You can't turn it off. And that's one of the
- 25:48Speaker 2: things you love about him. You ask him a direct question,
- 25:50Speaker 2: you get a direct answer, and then we all move on.
- 25:52Speaker 2: So yeah, sometimes the honesty is the best policy for
- 25:56Speaker 2: Jack ninety five percent of the time. But he does
- 25:57Speaker 2: get himself into a little hot water because he doesn't
- 26:00Speaker 2: know how to don't know how to big disorders with
- 26:02Speaker 2: these things.
- 26:03Speaker 1: He doesn't. I love that he finished that video. Often
- 26:05Speaker 1: you guys can see it on the Moto GP socials
- 26:07Speaker 1: that he goes. Yeah, if you just need any viral content,
- 26:10Speaker 1: just put the camera on me. I'll give it to
- 26:12Speaker 1: you as it is.
- 26:13Speaker 2: He's not wrong's wrong, He's not wrong.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Moving on too quickly to our other Aussie sener ags,
- 26:18Speaker 1: he is back this weekend after that massive crash that
- 26:22Speaker 1: we saw in Austria.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Austria.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yes, it feels like we know we're on
- 26:27Speaker 1: race four hundred of this season, so they're all starting
- 26:29Speaker 1: to blend in. But yes, Sena ags is back says
- 26:31Speaker 1: he's ready to go. So that's for Moto two. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: then obviously we have our Aussies in Moto three, jcob
- 26:37Speaker 1: Ralston and Joel Kelso. So once again we mentioned this earlier.
- 26:41Speaker 1: This is a track that the MotoGP writers have done
- 26:43Speaker 1: a lot of laps on, but also our Aussies because
- 26:45Speaker 1: they've been over in the Lower championships as well. It's
- 26:48Speaker 1: close to their home. They ride here a lot. There's
- 26:50Speaker 1: close by is Rocko's Ranch. I don't know mat if
- 26:53Speaker 1: you've ever been there, but it's a it's a flat
- 26:55Speaker 1: track place literally right next to the circuit, which is
- 26:58Speaker 1: really cool. A lot of the MotoGP riders and other
- 27:01Speaker 1: wealthy bike riders and everyone goes there and trains flat tracks.
- 27:04Speaker 1: So the boys are local to this circuit just as
- 27:06Speaker 1: much as they are for Philip Island.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, like all the Aussie guys would have done
- 27:11Speaker 2: more laps around Barcelona than they would have done Philip
- 27:13Speaker 2: Island for sure, and a lot of them when they
- 27:15Speaker 2: moved to When they move to Europe to compete in
- 27:18Speaker 2: the World Championship, they do go and live in Spain,
- 27:20Speaker 2: and it makes sense to go and live close to
- 27:22Speaker 2: this track because you can always get on it, so
- 27:25Speaker 2: they're practically locals, they'll know their way around here. Good
- 27:27Speaker 2: to see center back. That was a pretty scary accident. Yes,
- 27:31Speaker 2: you missed Grand Prix round, but that was one of
- 27:33Speaker 2: those ones when you saw it as it happened. Oh boy,
- 27:36Speaker 2: that's like that had potentially really really bad consequences. So
- 27:39Speaker 2: I'm glad that he's back and Moto three at this
- 27:43Speaker 2: track because of the nature of it is the last
- 27:45Speaker 2: five laps of Moto three, like you'll find yourself just
- 27:47Speaker 2: giggling most of the time because there's absolutely no analysis
- 27:50Speaker 2: being done here. It's like what on earth is going
- 27:52Speaker 2: to go along? So looking forward to that. But before
- 27:55Speaker 2: you get off the ifore we finish this podcast and
- 27:58Speaker 2: get off the Aussie seed, do we need to talk
- 28:00Speaker 2: about marquees matchpoint stats here? Because there is a chance,
- 28:05Speaker 2: and there is a chance that he could set himself
- 28:07Speaker 2: up to win the World Championship at Massano, and wouldn't
- 28:11Speaker 2: that be a story? He can win the world He
- 28:14Speaker 2: could win the World Championship Massado if things go well
- 28:16Speaker 2: this weekends. I've crunched the numbers. I just want to
- 28:19Speaker 2: let you know the numbers because I know you'll be
- 28:20Speaker 2: wondering and our listeners will be wondering too. So he
- 28:24Speaker 2: is one hundred and seventy five points in the league
- 28:26Speaker 2: right now. So to be world champion at Massano, he
- 28:28Speaker 2: needs to lead by two hundred and twenty two points.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Sounds like a lot. So he needs to outscore Alex
- 28:32Speaker 2: Marquez by forty seven points in the next two rounds.
- 28:35Speaker 2: That sounds like a lot. The last two rounds were
- 28:38Speaker 2: Austria and Hungary. Mark has outscored Alex by fifty five
- 28:42Speaker 2: points in the past two rounds, so it's absolutely doable.
- 28:46Speaker 2: At Massano. Mark's been amazing for the last seven rounds.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Alex has gone the other direction. He's had one Grand
- 28:52Speaker 2: Prix podium and two sprint podiums in the last five rounds,
- 28:57Speaker 2: so he's had of a potential ten podiums he had
- 29:00Speaker 2: free and you think at the start of the year
- 29:02Speaker 2: it was Mark Marquez first, Alex Marquez second in just
- 29:04Speaker 2: about every single time we went for a race. So
- 29:07Speaker 2: Mark's in the best four he's been in for eleven
- 29:09Speaker 2: years and Alex has dropped off and that's what's open
- 29:12Speaker 2: this possibility that he could potentially win the World Championship
- 29:16Speaker 2: at Massano, and as much as it would be kind
- 29:20Speaker 2: of cool for him to win the championship in Japan
- 29:22Speaker 2: because he's won championships in Japan in the past, and
- 29:24Speaker 2: it's almost like full circle moment, he decided in Japan
- 29:26Speaker 2: a couple of years ago that was time to leave
- 29:28Speaker 2: Honda after all the success they'd had. Imagine what social
- 29:31Speaker 2: media is going to be like if he wins the
- 29:32Speaker 2: World Championship in Valentino Rossi's backyard in Messado. Oh my god,
- 29:36Speaker 2: Like you may as well just sit back from your
- 29:37Speaker 2: chair right now, because it's going to be nuts in
- 29:39Speaker 2: your world.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I I'm glad you bought it up because I wasn't
- 29:43Speaker 1: sure whether to or not, but I think we need
- 29:45Speaker 1: to talk about it. So obviously I do social media.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And I was listening to an interview with Mark Marquez
- 29:51Speaker 1: and he said, I don't want to win in San Marino.
- 29:55Speaker 1: His words were because that would mean Alex has had
- 29:58Speaker 1: a bad run in bus. What I didn't read here
- 30:03Speaker 1: and what I'm reading through the subtext is I don't
- 30:06Speaker 1: want to win in Italy, literally next door to Valentino's
- 30:10Speaker 1: rossis because I will have to have security guards and
- 30:14Speaker 1: get flown out by the Spanish Army. Can you imagine
- 30:18Speaker 1: that the people probably knocking on his boator home.
- 30:22Speaker 2: And the other part of this, of course, is that
- 30:24Speaker 2: this is something that hasn't been discussed enough. When's the
- 30:26Speaker 2: next in season test. It's the Monday after Massano because
- 30:30Speaker 2: we've been talking about it, because Yamaha's going to run
- 30:32Speaker 2: the V four and Crosserera and probably Jack Miller will
- 30:34Speaker 2: get a run at that. If you're Mark Marquees and
- 30:37Speaker 2: you're going to have the world's greatest party after winning
- 30:39Speaker 2: your seventh World Championship you've been waiting for since twenty nineteen,
- 30:42Speaker 2: do you think you're going to want to go and
- 30:43Speaker 2: test the next morning. I wouldn't have thought so. So Yeah,
- 30:47Speaker 2: there's a number of reasons why he'd probably like it
- 30:49Speaker 2: to be Japan. The security aspect of Massarto might be
- 30:52Speaker 2: one of them. But yeah, I'm not sure I'd be
- 30:54Speaker 2: up for a ten am pit laid open start on
- 30:56Speaker 2: the Monday after winning a World championship. I might call
- 30:58Speaker 2: him sick that day. I think I don't.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Blame you because he did say, you know, I'd rather
- 31:04Speaker 1: win in Japan or Indonesia, and I felt like that
- 31:08Speaker 1: was a very pr thing to say because of his
- 31:10Speaker 1: massive fan base in Asia. We know that, and then
- 31:14Speaker 1: how much the love motorcycles and obviously Mark Marquez. But yeah,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I'm thinking maybe it's just because of the VR forty
- 31:20Speaker 1: six army, because we saw what they did at Magello
- 31:22Speaker 1: and I was there on the ground, and yes, the booing,
- 31:25Speaker 1: the like. Even Mark said, you don't have to hate
- 31:29Speaker 1: my brother. He had nothing to do with it. But
- 31:32Speaker 1: you know, so could you I just keep saying, could
- 31:36Speaker 1: you imagine, just just picture it?
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yes, I can imagine it would be that.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Would make world news for sure.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I can imagine it. And there's there's probably a
- 31:44Speaker 2: part of it, part of it for Mark that he
- 31:45Speaker 2: probably secretly enjoy it as well, if only for the
- 31:48Speaker 2: fact that, you know, the only way he really gets
- 31:50Speaker 2: here is he needs to be excellent and Alex probably
- 31:53Speaker 2: needs to be a bit rubbish, which he's not been
- 31:55Speaker 2: great for the past five rounds. I think we need
- 31:57Speaker 2: to look at Alex Marquez's season and say, well, maybe
- 31:59Speaker 2: the first seven eight rounds were kind of the outlier
- 32:02Speaker 2: because he was so good at the start of the year,
- 32:05Speaker 2: But that's also not really in keeping with how his
- 32:07Speaker 2: career is beg to this point, like he was massively
- 32:09Speaker 2: outperforming his normal expectations. Mark's just doing what Mark does
- 32:13Speaker 2: when he give him the best bike and the gritty
- 32:14Speaker 2: makes everyone look a bit average. So yeah, look, the
- 32:17Speaker 2: main thing for Mark is he'll take a win wherever
- 32:20Speaker 2: because it's been so long since he won one. But yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 2: winning it at Masano with everything you talked about and
- 32:25Speaker 2: then the fact you have to do a test the
- 32:26Speaker 2: next day. Maybe not the greatest idea, maybe not.
- 32:29Speaker 1: But I think that's going to make this weekend even
- 32:31Speaker 1: more exciting because listeners just see what's happening, Watch what
- 32:35Speaker 1: Mark is doing, figure out the tactics he's doing, because yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: like what if we do have a juge Martine, Marco Barzeki,
- 32:40Speaker 1: a stronger prillier weekend and we see Mark maybe not
- 32:43Speaker 1: pushing as hard as he normally does. Like I feel
- 32:46Speaker 1: like all that's going to come into play if he's
- 32:48Speaker 1: really really considering this, not winning at Mazano because he
- 32:52Speaker 1: keeps calling it impossible.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Nothing's impossible. This year for Marcus, we've seen who would
- 32:57Speaker 2: have thought we'd been talking about a guy winning fourteen consecutives. Yeah,
- 33:01Speaker 2: it's been one of those seasons. Anything is possible this season,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and yeah, the next two weekends as a back to
- 33:06Speaker 2: back is going to be super interesting.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Definitely is. But you guys can watch all of the
