- 0:08Speaker 1: We're bringing in the schools sports talking so.
- 0:14Speaker 3: With Jacob Hester and Terrify Terrible.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Live from the Haunted Studio. Here's Jacob Hester.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Me all right, welcome back in now number three O TV.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Here live from the Raisin Knes Studio. Let's go now
- 0:41Speaker 4: to our guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans Dot Football to
- 0:44Speaker 4: break down the latest New Orleans Saints lost to the
- 0:48Speaker 4: Tampa Bay Bucks.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Nicholas, how we doing this week, sir doing?
- 0:52Speaker 4: How y'all doing a couple of things going on here
- 0:55Speaker 4: here and there in Baton Rouge new cycle a.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Little, a little if you will.
- 1:01Speaker 4: So you know, we haven't had a chance Nick to
- 1:04Speaker 4: really dive into the Saints Bucks game, so certainly glad
- 1:07Speaker 4: to have you on to do just that for our listeners.
- 1:11Speaker 4: And it just from kind of jump street just didn't
- 1:15Speaker 4: go your way to a couple of nice moments, goal
- 1:17Speaker 4: line stands and and such. But uh, you finally, you know,
- 1:21Speaker 4: gave into what the masses wanted and you made a
- 1:23Speaker 4: switch at quarterback in the middle of the game. And
- 1:26Speaker 4: so this game just how you viewed it and how
- 1:29Speaker 4: it all played out.
- 1:30Speaker 2: What were your biggest takeaways?
- 1:33Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I guess we'll start with the quarterback.
- 1:37Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not surprised that they they made a change,
- 1:40Speaker 5: like at some point that we're going to probably make
- 1:41Speaker 5: it a change, like you can't be one to twenty
- 1:44Speaker 5: five on third and long and you know, can't you know,
- 1:46Speaker 5: at some point like they were going to shake it
- 1:48Speaker 5: up and see what the guy they took with fortieth
- 1:51Speaker 5: to do. What shocked me is how they did it,
- 1:54Speaker 5: Like I was not expecting that to be like a
- 1:56Speaker 5: mid game creative spark type thing. Like I think the
- 1:59Speaker 5: biggest thing that's coaching staff is hacked going for it
- 2:02Speaker 5: is that there's kind of this thought that you know,
- 2:04Speaker 5: they're they're well thought out, well planned people, and I
- 2:08Speaker 5: thought that was old thing that the quarterback is that
- 2:10Speaker 5: they had this plan of development, and I thought they'd
- 2:13Speaker 5: be like a detailed rollout and we hear, you know, hey,
- 2:16Speaker 5: look it, they like shuck take ten first team reps
- 2:20Speaker 5: from practice on Wednesday this week, and then next week
- 2:23Speaker 5: it's twenty and then like you see them in the
- 2:25Speaker 5: game or whatever. Like I thought it would be a
- 2:27Speaker 5: build up. I didn't think it'd be a middle of
- 2:29Speaker 5: the third quarter game's not going while possum and they
- 2:31Speaker 5: see what happens kind of thing, because like almost everything
- 2:34Speaker 5: they've done signaling to us is about building and being
- 2:38Speaker 5: patient and quote unquote doing things the right way. Otherwise,
- 2:41Speaker 5: how do you explain like rolling with the kicker who
- 2:44Speaker 5: you were afraid to kick a fifty nine yard or
- 2:46Speaker 5: with inside of a dome and so like, on one hand,
- 2:50Speaker 5: you don't need a spark a kicker, but now you
- 2:51Speaker 5: need to spark a quarterback in the middle of the game.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Those like just kind of kind of the ideals right.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Now, Like I'm having trouble making suns kind of of
- 3:00Speaker 5: what's going on. You know, if it works, it works,
- 3:02Speaker 5: you put him in there. If he plays again this
- 3:04Speaker 5: week and he plays well, fie whatever, Like who cares
- 3:08Speaker 5: how it got started, But like, I'm just really shocked
- 3:10Speaker 5: that that's how it went. I didn't think that this
- 3:13Speaker 5: is what we were watching. I didn't. I wasn't even
- 3:16Speaker 5: under the impression that they were like acting like a
- 3:18Speaker 5: team that felt pressure to win games, because like again,
- 3:21Speaker 5: like the kicker thing, and I'm not trying to kill
- 3:23Speaker 5: like the lake coopie here, but if you have patience
- 3:26Speaker 5: with the kicker, and you're willing to sacrifice three point
- 3:29Speaker 5: six points in a game as you wait for him
- 3:32Speaker 5: to come out of the funk. Like it's just hard
- 3:34Speaker 5: for me to understand why in the middle of a
- 3:36Speaker 5: Bucks game, it's like this is the line of demarcation
- 3:39Speaker 5: and enough is enough and can't do this anymore, and
- 3:42Speaker 5: you got to see what the other guy can do.
- 3:43Speaker 5: He's really surprised how it happened. So yeah, I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 5: you know, I don't know, like we're gonna find out
- 3:49Speaker 5: what they're gonna do this week. Kind of surprised that
- 3:51Speaker 5: it wasn't a Monday. Yeah, we're rolling with shuck thing
- 3:53Speaker 5: like now they're talking about it, Like going back to
- 3:56Speaker 5: Rattlers seems kind of messy and weird, Like you kind
- 3:59Speaker 5: of got an who you're dealing with, so like when
- 4:02Speaker 5: you take him out, I think it kind of has
- 4:04Speaker 5: to be a deliberate thing, like we all know how
- 4:06Speaker 5: he got here. Like I don't know if you need
- 4:09Speaker 5: to tip to or I'm not as a coach, but
- 4:10Speaker 5: I think you should at least be aware of like, hey, look,
- 4:12Speaker 5: this is like the story of his career and this
- 4:15Speaker 5: could mess him up if you want to go back
- 4:16Speaker 5: to him after doing it, and you're already feeling like
- 4:19Speaker 5: he's playing a little bit too tight, So like I
- 4:21Speaker 5: would assume it's all in with shock at this point.
- 4:25Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean, I'm just I was just totally
- 4:26Speaker 5: shocked out how that played out.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it kind of like you explaining that, Like the
- 4:31Speaker 3: confusion of how it happened really tells me that it
- 4:36Speaker 3: was like a true starter in backup mindset with Rattler
- 4:41Speaker 3: and Shuck, because you don't and it wasn't like a
- 4:45Speaker 3: one A one B starter, like we're gonna start this
- 4:48Speaker 3: guy for a little bit, then we're gonna because a
- 4:49Speaker 3: one A one B starter situation like you're talking about,
- 4:52Speaker 3: like eventually it was going to be Shuck, would be
- 4:55Speaker 3: a little bit more planned out in detail, set him
- 4:57Speaker 3: up for success, make sure he's got a weak preparation
- 5:00Speaker 3: belt with taking all the first team reps.
- 5:02Speaker 7: That would be like the one A one B mindset.
- 5:04Speaker 3: The backup situation is game's not going well, like we
- 5:08Speaker 3: need a spark, so let's put the backup in to
- 5:10Speaker 3: try to do this. So I'll be really interested to
- 5:12Speaker 3: see what that decision is. So I guess you kind
- 5:15Speaker 3: of answered it there. But like if you are Kelling Moore,
- 5:18Speaker 3: like what is what would be your decision going forward
- 5:22Speaker 3: as far as a starting quarterback.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Well, if I was calling more like I wouldn't, I
- 5:27Speaker 5: wouldn't have done it like that. I kind of like
- 5:29Speaker 5: my thought process was, Hey, he's got to look good
- 5:31Speaker 5: in one of these next two games against the Bucks
- 5:33Speaker 5: in the Rams and if it doesn't turn around, then
- 5:36Speaker 5: you probably go to Shock in Carolina, maybe get the
- 5:39Speaker 5: first game on their order. You come to them in
- 5:40Speaker 5: the first game out of the bye. But like I thought,
- 5:43Speaker 5: these next two were kind of kind of the thing
- 5:45Speaker 5: that you wanted to see. And again like six turnovers
- 5:47Speaker 5: and six quarters, Like I get it, and there's kind
- 5:49Speaker 5: of a line there, but like I don't think it's
- 5:51Speaker 5: like putting Andy Dalton into the game, like this is
- 5:54Speaker 5: this is the rookie, and like the whole thing is
- 5:57Speaker 5: development and like the narrative, like every single time it
- 5:59Speaker 5: comes up with out like Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones
- 6:02Speaker 5: or whatever, like Kellen Moore's at the podium talking about
- 6:04Speaker 5: how you know other people don't do things the right
- 6:06Speaker 5: way and like you know, it's evidence of how you
- 6:09Speaker 5: got to handle these things, and then it's just like whoop,
- 6:11Speaker 5: Like this is a just a normal situation. You know,
- 6:15Speaker 5: if I were him, what I would do, I don't know.
- 6:18Speaker 6: I mean, look, I.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Think you have to get a look at it. It
- 6:20Speaker 5: shuck at some point, you know. And I think now
- 6:24Speaker 5: that you open the door, I'm just going that direction
- 6:26Speaker 5: because I think I've created a situation where it's weird.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Now if I go back, and then if I flip
- 6:31Speaker 5: flop again, it's just kind of I don't know, does
- 6:35Speaker 5: that start to mess up the locker room? Like You're
- 6:36Speaker 5: already probably gonna have different pockets of people in different
- 6:40Speaker 5: areas sinking. Hey, this is like kind of weird. This
- 6:42Speaker 5: is messed up.
- 6:43Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I thought Spencer playing well, he probably didn't deserve to
- 6:45Speaker 5: catch the blame for this. But thend like, if you
- 6:47Speaker 5: keep going back and forth, back and forth, I think
- 6:49Speaker 5: all of a sudden, like you create maybe a very
- 6:52Speaker 5: very messy situation.
- 6:54Speaker 6: So I feel like you made your decision you were
- 6:56Speaker 6: going to take.
- 6:57Speaker 5: A look at him at some point. I think you
- 6:58Speaker 5: kind of got to lean into it now and just
- 7:00Speaker 5: go with it, because I would say one of the
- 7:03Speaker 5: things that I think they've done best this year is
- 7:05Speaker 5: that they drafted a quarterback at forty and they kind
- 7:08Speaker 5: of really haven't allowed it to become a story. You know.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I felt like until after it was kind of weird.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Actually in the New England game, that was the first
- 7:16Speaker 5: time that we kind of heard some like messaging of
- 7:19Speaker 5: frustration with how maybe plays weren't being made. And I
- 7:22Speaker 5: thought that was the best game that Rattler has played
- 7:25Speaker 5: as an NFL player. But that was the first time
- 7:28Speaker 5: he kind of came out and made a comment where
- 7:30Speaker 5: it was like, yeah, you know, like we're kind of
- 7:32Speaker 5: limited a little bit and some of the stuff we
- 7:33Speaker 5: can do. And then you know, it was the next week,
- 7:35Speaker 5: the third and twenty, you know, the third down play
- 7:39Speaker 5: Alvin throws at the taste and they get the flag.
- 7:42Speaker 5: He goes up there and he says, yeah, we like,
- 7:44Speaker 5: we haven't just been able to do anything on third down,
- 7:46Speaker 5: so I felt like I had to try to create
- 7:48Speaker 5: something to make it happen. Like that was another one.
- 7:50Speaker 5: We're like, ooh, that's kind of crazy. And then you know,
- 7:52Speaker 5: getting asked about, hey, like this the special need to
- 7:55Speaker 5: look over his shoulder and he's like, it's a week
- 7:56Speaker 5: to week thing. Up until that point, it was no,
- 7:59Speaker 5: this is our starter all and with him. So it
- 8:01Speaker 5: feels like there's maybe been like, you know, a slow
- 8:03Speaker 5: build up.
- 8:04Speaker 6: To this, and I think now that you did it,
- 8:06Speaker 6: you just kind of.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Got to stick with it. But again, I'm just I'm just.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Blown away a bout how it happened, because.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Like, why is the pressure suddenly in the second half
- 8:15Speaker 5: of a Bucks game in a one and sixth season.
- 8:20Speaker 5: I just don't I don't know. It's just kind of
- 8:22Speaker 5: all of a sudden, like like just everything I thought
- 8:24Speaker 5: about the season in that decision. It was just kind
- 8:27Speaker 5: of like, wait a minute, like this is not what
- 8:30Speaker 5: has been the whole time, and now all of a sudden,
- 8:32Speaker 5: like this is the stuff that matter. It's just kind
- 8:35Speaker 5: of weird to me, like you're taking your you know,
- 8:38Speaker 5: and again I think you're I think the pet the
- 8:41Speaker 5: Pete Werner extension was probably a mistake, you know, I
- 8:43Speaker 5: think it probably doesn't fit with the team. Like there's
- 8:45Speaker 5: a lot of stuff, but like he is your second
- 8:47Speaker 5: best linebacker, but at linebacker you're fine with like downngrating
- 8:51Speaker 5: that position to get reps for other guys. At cornerback,
- 8:55Speaker 5: I got him, probably is your your next best cornerback.
- 8:58Speaker 5: You're willing to take him off the field developed Quince Ray,
- 9:00Speaker 5: So like all of these things are telling me it's
- 9:02Speaker 5: about development and patience, and then all of a sudden,
- 9:05Speaker 5: like it's just like woof, like up in the air
- 9:07Speaker 5: and this is different over here. I don't but yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 5: the answer the question about ram I would probably I
- 9:12Speaker 5: would probably feel like I have to stick with the
- 9:14Speaker 5: decision I made because I could make it messy by
- 9:17Speaker 5: by kind of flip flopping. And the says any thought
- 9:19Speaker 5: of going back to shock later to look at them
- 9:21Speaker 5: before the draft? You know, I think it's just kind
- 9:24Speaker 5: of you just you just turned it into allowed every week,
- 9:28Speaker 5: you know, who's the quarterback type thing? And I think
- 9:30Speaker 5: that's a terrible thing to this team.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Nick, How surprised are you that the Saints haven't been active,
- 9:38Speaker 4: like on the trade market. At least the rumors have
- 9:41Speaker 4: died down, considering we thought that maybe like a lot
- 9:44Speaker 4: of the veteran players would be traded because you are
- 9:47Speaker 4: in complete rebuild mode because you've won one game.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But now it seems like some of that has gone away.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Is that because your guys came out and said, I
- 9:55Speaker 4: don't want to get traded. I want to finish my
- 9:57Speaker 4: career here. Is it because you didn't like what the
- 9:59Speaker 4: return pack? It just potentially would be like why did
- 10:02Speaker 4: that get so quiet so quickly?
- 10:05Speaker 5: I think there's guys still trade deadlines Tuesday of the
- 10:08Speaker 5: league after after this game. I mean, I think there's
- 10:10Speaker 5: still probably a possibility we see like a wide receiver
- 10:13Speaker 5: go and you know, I would I would assume it's
- 10:16Speaker 5: probably either like your sheet or Cooks that I think
- 10:18Speaker 5: those are probably the guys like your set. Obviously you're
- 10:20Speaker 5: getting more for you know, I think that they're asking
- 10:23Speaker 5: price has been a little bit high on him. I
- 10:25Speaker 5: don't think teams want to give up a third rounder
- 10:28Speaker 5: for him, and you know, it's kind of the feeling
- 10:30Speaker 5: of what they're looking for, you know, cop pick Wise,
- 10:32Speaker 5: if he were to go, you know, wouldn't be the
- 10:35Speaker 5: stext shot at the one after I'm got some contract ballpark,
- 10:39Speaker 5: you'd probably getta get a fourth rounder like that. That's
- 10:41Speaker 5: what you got back for Paulson and de bo I
- 10:43Speaker 5: guess you, I guess you'd probably be in that type
- 10:45Speaker 5: of range. You know, the benefit of trying to do
- 10:47Speaker 5: that is that you know, if you got the fots,
- 10:49Speaker 5: you could lock it in and then you can go
- 10:50Speaker 5: out and spend money and sign other players and you
- 10:52Speaker 5: aren't upsetting it and you don't lose the pick. But
- 10:56Speaker 5: it's it's tough manager that front office, Like just imagine
- 11:00Speaker 5: the optics of it. If you trader, she heads for
- 11:03Speaker 5: a fourth round pick and that's what you gave up
- 11:05Speaker 5: for the bomb Ble plus the seventh. Like, granted there's
- 11:08Speaker 5: time left on the contract with Bile that changes the
- 11:11Speaker 5: value proposition a little bit, but like we're talking a
- 11:14Speaker 5: guy that makes place or is a guy that makes
- 11:16Speaker 5: no plays at the same round cost, Like it's kind
- 11:19Speaker 5: of a nasty. Look, I don't think that's enough to
- 11:21Speaker 5: not do it, but it's just kind of shines of
- 11:24Speaker 5: spotlight on like just man, what like what was like
- 11:27Speaker 5: what was that traite? Like I don't understand it, Like
- 11:30Speaker 5: it's just kind of kind of crazy.
- 11:32Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Look, if I'm a k and they're only.
- 11:33Speaker 8: Giving me six runs in a game, I don't know
- 11:36Speaker 8: if I'm thinking about maybe maybe those pinacle OTAs that
- 11:39Speaker 8: taste okay, and you know, Kansas City or Buffalo, like
- 11:42Speaker 8: I would that would maybe be like you know, look,
- 11:44Speaker 8: it's cool, I want to be here but I also
- 11:45Speaker 8: want to play, Like I don't understand why.
- 11:47Speaker 5: They're not giving him the ball. It's kind of a
- 11:50Speaker 5: lot of weird stuff going on right now, But I
- 11:52Speaker 5: do expect some deals to uh to probably you know,
- 11:55Speaker 5: probably one or one or two. I'd be surprised if
- 11:58Speaker 5: it's just like nothing happens and it just kind of
- 12:01Speaker 5: make you again, like look at the situation, like, shouldn't
- 12:04Speaker 5: you be getting some draft picks, like to rebuild this
- 12:06Speaker 5: roster because like you know, we did a did a
- 12:09Speaker 5: who are you protecting in an expansion draft?
- 12:11Speaker 3: One guy?
- 12:12Speaker 5: And the other guy? Who are you taking around the league?
- 12:13Speaker 5: Another guy? I don't know if the Saints player gets
- 12:16Speaker 5: picked in an expansion draft, like you know, and I
- 12:18Speaker 5: don't know how many guys you'd be fighting to protect
- 12:20Speaker 5: right now. And I think you need like a lot
- 12:22Speaker 5: of people, uh to get this rebuild going right, and
- 12:27Speaker 5: you know, you need draft picks to do it, and
- 12:28Speaker 5: some of these guys are not going to be around
- 12:29Speaker 5: for it. He is a free agent, you know, if
- 12:32Speaker 5: you can get something that would probably do it.
- 12:34Speaker 7: Nih is there anybody safe before the trade deadline?
- 12:39Speaker 5: I don't think there's anyone that that, like you probably
- 12:41Speaker 5: wouldn't trade.
- 12:44Speaker 7: Like that. You would be like, Nope, not trading that guy.
- 12:49Speaker 5: I mean I don't think like you get back what
- 12:51Speaker 5: you put in the banks or fuaga. But I mean,
- 12:53Speaker 5: like if somebody offered me like a premium match up
- 12:56Speaker 5: for one of them, I'd be willing to do it.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Like yeah, there's nobody.
- 12:59Speaker 5: And it's crazy because like you know, eighteen, there's probably
- 13:01Speaker 5: four or five six guys that you're going down the list, like,
- 13:04Speaker 5: no way, I'm not giving that guy up.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Yeah I don't.
- 13:06Speaker 5: I don't. I don't think they're currently in a place
- 13:08Speaker 5: where someone would call you be like yeah, I'm not
- 13:10Speaker 5: I'm not listening to that. Like no, no, I mean
- 13:13Speaker 5: I think you, I think you pick up the phone
- 13:14Speaker 5: on anyone. And I think there's there's a price for
- 13:17Speaker 5: everyone on this team right now, no doubt about it. Yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 5: there's no untouchables right now. And it's hard to get there, man,
- 13:23Speaker 5: It's hard to get to a place where where like
- 13:26Speaker 5: you're you're really at that point where you know, Eric
- 13:29Speaker 5: McCourt's your best player, like he's he's hurt, you know,
- 13:31Speaker 5: he's what twenty twenty games over the last four or
- 13:34Speaker 5: five years, So like he's he's someone that give them
- 13:37Speaker 5: where they're at, I'd take a call on them. Yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 5: there's nobody at all. Right now, you know, your best
- 13:43Speaker 5: players or guys that are are you know, thirty plus.
- 13:47Speaker 5: You know, it's still like the best players are this
- 13:50Speaker 5: this team are the guys that would have been on
- 13:51Speaker 5: the untouchable list in in eighteen. So yeah, no, there's
- 13:55Speaker 5: definitely nobody that's untouchable.
- 13:58Speaker 2: All right, that's wild.
- 14:02Speaker 7: There's always untouchable.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I know. I think he's right, though, I don't think
- 14:06Speaker 2: there is.
- 14:06Speaker 3: There's a lot of people that have played themselves out
- 14:09Speaker 3: of being tradable. I get that portion of the thing.
- 14:11Speaker 3: But yeah, it's just that it kind of speaks to
- 14:15Speaker 3: where you're at. I mean, it's there's no hope in
- 14:19Speaker 3: this season.
- 14:20Speaker 5: It's it's just from rough drafts since you know, seventeen.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I mean that that's just kind of where you end
- 14:25Speaker 5: up at it. You know, if you aren't drafting guys
- 14:27Speaker 5: that that are probo caliber, like, how are you going
- 14:29Speaker 5: to have them? And it's just a lot of misses
- 14:31Speaker 5: in those first rounds over the years, like you know,
- 14:35Speaker 5: and then a lot of is having a weird season.
- 14:37Speaker 5: The injury situation kind of takes him out of that conversation.
- 14:41Speaker 5: He's the only one that probably had the potential since
- 14:43Speaker 5: since seventeen to maybe play himself into that category. But
- 14:47Speaker 5: you know, DA have him for Peyton Turner and Trevor Penning.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Like it's just like it's.
- 14:50Speaker 6: A lot of guys that that you know, haven't haven't hit.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Your second rounders aren't hitting, you know, Chunsey Gardner Johnson
- 14:56Speaker 5: was maybe another guy like talent wise possibly had that
- 15:00Speaker 5: had that Pro Bowl caliber, but then you know the
- 15:02Speaker 5: dot field that has made his career a little bit weird.
- 15:06Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean it's just not not a ton
- 15:08Speaker 5: of McCoy like got closed here center, your team isn't
- 15:11Speaker 5: good enough like that. So you know, it's just it's
- 15:13Speaker 5: just not been good enough, you know, And he's.
- 15:20Speaker 7: Been a bright spot left to get on the field.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Yeah, he looks like he wants to play man. Yeah him, Yeah, yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 5: he might be the brightest spot on this team. And
- 15:30Speaker 5: yeah if you, if you, if he had played the
- 15:32Speaker 5: whole season at this level, I think maybe he'd be
- 15:34Speaker 5: the guy that you look at and say, yeah, I'm
- 15:36Speaker 5: not trading him, Like if you got seven games, eight
- 15:38Speaker 5: games of what we've seen the last couple of weeks. Yeah, absolutely,
- 15:41Speaker 5: he looks amazing. He looks like he's put it together
- 15:43Speaker 5: to get off his is crazy. You know, he's he's beaten,
- 15:48Speaker 5: touted him worse, which.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Isn't you know, an easy an easy.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Thing to do. So yeah, he looks he looks great.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Right now, He's probably your best bet get into that category,
- 15:57Speaker 5: which is you know, kind of surprising, you know, but
- 16:00Speaker 5: but yeah, that could possibly be if he keeps faying
- 16:03Speaker 5: like this, that could be that could be probably like
- 16:05Speaker 5: maybe their best move in the last four or five years.
- 16:07Speaker 5: And again there's not a lot of candidates on that list,
- 16:10Speaker 5: so you know, but yeah, he looks like he has
- 16:13Speaker 5: a chance to actually actually you know, live up to
- 16:15Speaker 5: that contract.
- 16:16Speaker 2: All right, there he is Nick Underhill, New Orleans.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Is that football joined us every single Tuesday here on OTB.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Nick.
- 16:22Speaker 4: We appreciate the time as always, enjoy the rest of
- 16:24Speaker 4: your day, sir, Yeah guy, all.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Right, cool, I feel good about it. I feel great.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Wow, go team.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Brings up an interesting point on the quarterback switch at
- 16:41Speaker 3: that time, right yeah, if it's not going great, if
- 16:44Speaker 3: you're trying to see where he's at, I don't know
- 16:47Speaker 3: if my analogy hit home on like the true mindset
- 16:50Speaker 3: of a starter and backup, yeah, rather than just like
- 16:53Speaker 3: a one A, one B type starter. Right, it really
- 16:57Speaker 3: felt like it feels like it was just needed to spark.
- 16:59Speaker 3: I think it'd be the cleanest to stay on the
- 17:01Speaker 3: plan and then yeah, maybe still could go with shuck,
- 17:04Speaker 3: Like obviously you have to at some point, yeah, right,
- 17:07Speaker 3: but you don't have to.
- 17:08Speaker 7: But you don't have to. But like now it's messy,
- 17:13Speaker 7: it gets even messier, and.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Now it's messier.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Now it's now it's it's the toothpas is out of
- 17:19Speaker 4: the tube and you can't put it back in.
- 17:20Speaker 2: And if I think all the momentum and.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Things that Spencer Rattler had and like I know the record,
- 17:28Speaker 4: but there was things on the field as a young
- 17:31Speaker 4: football player that I think we're going to continue to
- 17:33Speaker 4: develop like that, you get reset.
- 17:35Speaker 7: On all of that.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I mean when you make a move like that the
- 17:39Speaker 2: way they did ye, But.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I mean like if you're not having success, yeah, backups
- 17:44Speaker 3: are going to come in just to see if you
- 17:46Speaker 3: can get something going. Now, this is the this is
- 17:49Speaker 3: a big decision going forward. Who's going to start the
- 17:51Speaker 3: next game? Because if you start shucked. Then you it's
- 17:54Speaker 3: hard to go back. Then it gets super messy. Now,
- 17:57Speaker 3: not as messy as like the jets this past weekend,
- 18:00Speaker 3: but Jay, they came out more OTV when we come
- 18:08Speaker 3: back off the bench.
- 18:10Speaker 4: All right, good, all Star toydef batteruge dot com, buying, new, leasing, renting.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Everything is available to you no matter what you're looking for.

- 18:21Speaker 4: full size SUV. They've got van, they got the trucks.
- 18:24Speaker 4: They got something for every rime. They got multiple trucks,
- 18:28Speaker 4: Tacoma Tundra. They've got them buying new, they've got them leasing,
- 18:31Speaker 4: they've got them renting. So everything is available for you.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Make sure you go check out the full fleet there.

- 18:40Speaker 7: That's right. I gotta tell you.
- 18:42Speaker 3: If you're a you have a child just turned sixteen.
- 18:45Speaker 3: My two older sisters they had toyotas grown up because
- 18:47Speaker 3: my my dad knew that they were safe, they were efficient,
- 18:49Speaker 3: they were great vehicles and he felt safe with them
- 18:52Speaker 3: in it. So if you're looking for a new it's
- 18:53Speaker 3: that time of life to buy someone for a loved
- 18:55Speaker 3: one maybe it's yourself. Maybe you did'n upgrade with it's new,
- 18:58Speaker 3: whether it's used, maybe it's a long term leaset her
- 19:01Speaker 3: day rental doesn't really matter if you are in that market.
- 19:04Speaker 7: It's that time of life.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Make sure you go see them right there in the
- 19:07Speaker 3: airline near Goodwood or go visit them today. I'll start
- 19:09Speaker 3: toota baton Rouge dot com.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven. You're
- 19:18Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Share with the class.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Bud's got some fun comments coming in in the chat
- 20:13Speaker 3: right now. Frank Kelly ate superior chips without dipping them
- 20:18Speaker 3: in sausa. Frank Kelly ordered the hardshell tacos. That's superior.
- 20:26Speaker 9: That's a OTB coded ass joke, though I love OTD
- 20:33Speaker 9: inside jokes for those that don't know. Definitely the room
- 20:38Speaker 9: thinks it's weird that Jake thinks hardshell tacos when we
- 20:41Speaker 9: think tacos or taco cheese or whatever.
- 20:43Speaker 7: K Leane Beck and patted as full belly.
- 20:49Speaker 9: Well, because there's a lot of stories going around on
- 20:52Speaker 9: Twitter right now. That again their story, So who knows
- 20:54Speaker 9: if they're real or not, But did y'all see the one.
- 20:56Speaker 2: About the burnt ends.
- 20:58Speaker 9: No, no, Whenever he was at Notre Dame and he
- 21:02Speaker 9: got the offer to come here at LSU. He was
- 21:04Speaker 9: at a recruits house. This is alleged.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:08Speaker 9: This is a story that I saw on Twitter. Right,
- 21:11Speaker 9: he was at a recruits house, got the call about LSU,
- 21:15Speaker 9: went on about the dinner like nothing happened. I guess
- 21:18Speaker 9: they had made barbecue burn INDs for dinner, and he
- 21:21Speaker 9: like kept getting heapings of burn ins and then just
- 21:23Speaker 9: like quietly left and went to LSU. He was like,
- 21:27Speaker 9: no big deal.
- 21:28Speaker 7: I heard you at the dinner.
- 21:29Speaker 3: One big burn in guy, delicious objectively all right.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So the odds the latest odds that have been released
- 21:40Speaker 4: for LSU's next head football coach, and you can find
- 21:42Speaker 4: those on our website, louisianasports dot net. And these lines
- 21:48Speaker 4: are according to bet online dot ag. LSU Tigers next
- 21:52Speaker 4: head football coach at plus one point fifty is John
- 21:56Speaker 4: Sumral the two lane head coach two to one, Joe
- 21:59Speaker 4: Brady four to one, Lane Kiffin six to one, James
- 22:02Speaker 4: Franklin eight to one, Eli Drinkwitz twelve to one, Jeff
- 22:06Speaker 4: Brohm fourteen to one Brent Key eighteen to one, Jimbo
- 22:10Speaker 4: Fisher twenty to one, Clark Lee, and then he goes,
- 22:14Speaker 4: you know, Marcus Freeman, Urban Meyer, Rhtt Lashley, John Gruden,
- 22:17Speaker 4: Kenny Dillingham, Lincoln Riley, Dabos Sweeney, Dan Mullen, Alex Skulish,
- 22:21Speaker 4: Dan Lanning, Matt Campbell, Nick Saban. But of the you know,
- 22:25Speaker 4: the realistic ones who knows gave you the odds there so.
- 22:30Speaker 7: Would be a dark horse. Some of them that's not
- 22:32Speaker 7: even on the list could be, could be.
- 22:36Speaker 4: So if someone all as the leader in the clubhouse,
- 22:38Speaker 4: I don't believe that to be the case. I think
- 22:41Speaker 4: John summerl is a really good football coach. Don't get
- 22:44Speaker 4: me wrong, I just don't believe that to be the case.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I don't believe Joe Brady would want to be a
- 22:51Speaker 4: head coach in college football, So I don't believe that
- 22:53Speaker 4: to be the case. James Franklin's not going to be
- 22:57Speaker 4: the coach here. I would be would I would be shocked.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I don't want to say he's not gonna be. That's
- 23:02Speaker 4: that's an absolute and we can't do that in college football.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So I retract that.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I don't think he's going to be the head coach
- 23:07Speaker 4: here because you would have what just left. You would
- 23:10Speaker 4: have a lot of wins, no championships, And that's just
- 23:14Speaker 4: like you you got to you gotta go the opposite
- 23:16Speaker 4: of what you just had here. In my opinion, you
- 23:19Speaker 4: got to go go get something different. James Franklin feels
- 23:24Speaker 4: like the same.
- 23:25Speaker 3: James Ring definitely feels like the same. Yeah, I mean,
- 23:28Speaker 3: like this is this is betting odds that we're giving you.
- 23:31Speaker 3: There's there's no leader in the clubhouse right now. We
- 23:36Speaker 3: don't even know Boomer's flying on. Who's even really gonna
- 23:40Speaker 3: make the decision? There's still no there's no president as well,
- 23:43Speaker 3: So like what, there's so much to unpack and do
- 23:47Speaker 3: before you get to that point of like, here's a
- 23:49Speaker 3: leader in the clubhouse, because we don't even know in
- 23:52Speaker 3: which person's brain would make the decision to make it
- 23:55Speaker 3: a leader in the clubhouse. So but I agree with
- 23:59Speaker 3: you one hundred percent. You got to go kind of
- 24:01Speaker 3: opposite of the pick that you just did. The safe
- 24:05Speaker 3: been doing it a long time. Yeah, Hall of fame
- 24:08Speaker 3: blah blah blah, Like you got to go away from
- 24:12Speaker 3: that and find somebody that is going to come in here.
- 24:16Speaker 3: I think we talked about for three hours yesterday that
- 24:18Speaker 3: is going to dedicate every inch, every piece of them,
- 24:22Speaker 3: every moment of time to LSU football and instill that
- 24:26Speaker 3: it has done it in the past, and it doesn't
- 24:28Speaker 3: have to be on the biggest stage. It doesn't have
- 24:29Speaker 3: to be with the big biggest program. It can be.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I know there's a lot of like the sexy picks
- 24:36Speaker 3: out there, like Dan Lanning, like Kiff and everybody's talking
- 24:40Speaker 3: about that. But they got four or five, six, seven,
- 24:47Speaker 3: eight games left to play as well, so nothing's going
- 24:50Speaker 3: to happen fast. I know that at least efficiently things
- 24:55Speaker 3: are you know, obviously things in motion now and you
- 24:58Speaker 3: talk to different people and held Jimmy sex and reps.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Almost everybody was sent there. I mean, just got the
- 25:04Speaker 4: way it is. So obviously those conversations are gonna take place.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I don't know what the pecking order is going to be,
- 25:11Speaker 4: you know. You you hear it's like, well they're gonna
- 25:14Speaker 4: make save and tell them no. Well, it's probably gonna
- 25:16Speaker 4: tell you no, but like I gotta gotta at least try. Okay,
- 25:19Speaker 4: I get that, I understand it, sure, And then it's
- 25:21Speaker 4: like you hear well, then it's gonna be Lane Kiffin.
- 25:24Speaker 4: And then if it's not Lane Kiffin, then there's a
- 25:25Speaker 4: group of Kenny Dillingham and John Sumrall and you know
- 25:29Speaker 4: some younger names names like that, up and coming had
- 25:32Speaker 4: football coaches. I mean, Kenny Dillingham did make a cast
- 25:34Speaker 4: football playoff a year ago.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Hey, you got to make a call and they can
- 25:38Speaker 3: say no. But who's making that call right now? It's
- 25:40Speaker 3: a great point. Who is making that call? Who's making
- 25:43Speaker 3: those decisions to say you got to make them say no?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Besides the fan base.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And the people that like that, I know they're putting
- 25:52Speaker 2: up the dollars.
- 25:53Speaker 7: For sure, I.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Put up the dollars. I'd sure want to have to
- 25:56Speaker 3: say yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 7: Is that right or wrong?
- 25:59Speaker 3: I tell you all, that was the argument I tried
- 26:02Speaker 3: to tell y'all yesterday, Like, I'll do it for free.
- 26:05Speaker 7: Just let me know.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I wanna do it for free. Uh, Josh, you don't
- 26:11Speaker 2: have to use all caps.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I mean, I agree with you. Don't think Stament's coming
- 26:14Speaker 3: back all caps?
- 26:15Speaker 4: Guys, it's all cap Friday, and it's not Friday every day.
- 26:20Speaker 3: People could bring up Matt Patricia's thing. Why would Why the.
- 26:24Speaker 7: Hell would lsu Hire matpatrition. What does that bring is
- 26:30Speaker 7: that Ohio State? Is that right?
- 26:31Speaker 3: He's the your host state d C coordinator. Iron Matt
- 26:35Speaker 3: Patricia has been in o C, a d C in
- 26:37Speaker 3: the NFL. He's been a head coach in the NFL.
- 26:39Speaker 3: He's been a DC. Now that's great. And Mattatricia is
- 26:41Speaker 3: a hell of a football coach. He's not gonna be
- 26:43Speaker 3: the head football coach here. He shouldn't be. That's no
- 26:46Speaker 3: disrespect to him, just facts. Is it should be if
- 26:53Speaker 3: he is the old love him.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I like Matta Patricia interviewed him at the Super Bowl.
- 26:58Speaker 7: He was great.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Just don't think that's going to be you.
- 27:02Speaker 4: When you have a situation like this, you can't hire
- 27:07Speaker 4: anything that remotely looks to be the same of what
- 27:10Speaker 4: you had. You need something different. What you had was
- 27:15Speaker 4: not working, right Oh yeah, well yeah, you proved it. It
- 27:23Speaker 4: wasn't working, proved it all year, and then you proved
- 27:27Speaker 4: it by reaching and paying a buy out that nobody
- 27:32Speaker 4: thought was attainable. Yeah, so it's not working, So yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 4: do not do what you did. And look, I love
- 27:37Speaker 4: Joe Brady as much as anybody like I used to
- 27:40Speaker 4: love sitting down talking offense with Joe all the time.
- 27:43Speaker 4: I don't think Joe wants to one and two, he's
- 27:46Speaker 4: never been a head coach. If he is a head coach,
- 27:49Speaker 4: I think that comes first in the NFL before it
- 27:52Speaker 4: does college football. He's been in the NFL way longer
- 27:58Speaker 4: than he's been in college football. Remember that he came
- 28:00Speaker 4: from the NFL to LSU.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, And just because I mean we've brought it up
- 28:07Speaker 3: before and people kind of understand this, just because you're
- 28:10Speaker 3: a good football coach, just because you're a good coordinator,
- 28:13Speaker 3: doesn't mean you're going to be a new head coach.
- 28:15Speaker 3: I know there's a progression. All head coaches have to
- 28:17Speaker 3: go through it. And you don't know you're good head
- 28:19Speaker 3: coach until you become a head coach, right, But with
- 28:23Speaker 3: a job like LSU, you probably want somebody that is
- 28:27Speaker 3: a proven head coach. And that doesn't really matter at
- 28:30Speaker 3: what level. It doesn't matter that it's been a power
- 28:33Speaker 3: for or you know, you've won a national championship before,
- 28:36Speaker 3: you've been to the playoffs before, It doesn't really matter
- 28:39Speaker 3: if you know how to be a head coach and
- 28:41Speaker 3: to be a leader of a team and a leader
- 28:42Speaker 3: of men and.
- 28:43Speaker 7: Prove like, that's all that really matters.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I would rather do that than hire a really good
- 28:50Speaker 3: coordinator first time head coach. Now it might work out,
- 28:53Speaker 3: because it does work out. Obviously, those guys that become
- 28:57Speaker 3: good head coaches were offensive coordinators, they were deepense to coordinators,
- 29:00Speaker 3: they were quarterback coaches, they were tied end coaches, they
- 29:03Speaker 3: were defensive line coaches. I get that there's a progression there,
- 29:06Speaker 3: but when you are the basically everybody agrees all over
- 29:12Speaker 3: the country in the national media that the LSU is
- 29:14Speaker 3: the premier job.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yes, it's like, I don't care who you are. Like we.
- 29:20Speaker 4: On off campus, it was me, Bobby and EJ. And
- 29:21Speaker 4: I was like, hey, give me your six jobs that
- 29:23Speaker 4: no questions asked. You're out the door. You're gone as
- 29:26Speaker 4: soon as they call. EJ didn't put at LSU in
- 29:29Speaker 4: his top six, and I said, EJ, I'm sorry, I
- 29:33Speaker 4: love you. You're dead wrong, he said, Tennessee before l Sho,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I see, you're dead wrong, said when you look at
- 29:39Speaker 4: the LSU job, put in the top six, Yeah, it's
- 29:44Speaker 4: firmly in the top three. It's like, but when you
- 29:46Speaker 4: look at the LSU job, the advantages that you have,
- 29:50Speaker 4: the proof that's already been there.
- 29:52Speaker 2: And look, we know, we know when you won championships,
- 29:55Speaker 2: we know all that.
- 29:56Speaker 4: But when you look at the resources, when you look
- 29:59Speaker 4: at the desire to be great, when you look at
- 30:02Speaker 4: the ability to play in the greatest stadium in college football,
- 30:05Speaker 4: whenever they have a product that's rocking, the fans will
- 30:08Speaker 4: rock with it. When you look at the recruiting map
- 30:12Speaker 4: that you're able to go into a state where it's
- 30:16Speaker 4: per capita of the most NFL players and you're without
- 30:18Speaker 4: question the top dog in that state. And also you
- 30:21Speaker 4: have a bordering state in Texas that's some of the
- 30:24Speaker 4: best high school football that you've got a strong firm
- 30:28Speaker 4: grasp of how to recruit Houston in Dallas and those areas.
- 30:33Speaker 4: When you look at the people that will give LSU
- 30:40Speaker 4: anything and everything, I mean, the donor base, like everything,
- 30:46Speaker 4: the facilities. If there's a want in college football, LSU
- 30:49Speaker 4: has it. Then you have recruiting advantages. You have all
- 30:51Speaker 4: these things. Right, It's a top three job, without question
- 30:56Speaker 4: it is. And whoever's making the decision, all I ask
- 31:02Speaker 4: is you treated as such. Know that you have a
- 31:05Speaker 4: top three job in America, and know that you're going
- 31:09Speaker 4: to have the ability to hire a hell of a
- 31:10Speaker 4: football coach that fits everything you're trying to do here
- 31:15Speaker 4: at LSU. Have those conversations, interview whoever you have on
- 31:21Speaker 4: that list, but you make sure that they understand too
- 31:25Speaker 4: what's expected of them from it from this job, right, Louisiana,
- 31:30Speaker 4: isn't We're not passive people.
- 31:33Speaker 2: We're not.
- 31:36Speaker 4: We're not somebody that when we go to work, we
- 31:38Speaker 4: just kind of clock in and clock out nine to
- 31:40Speaker 4: five and that's it. We don't think about it again, Right,
- 31:42Speaker 4: it's not how we're made. It's not in our DNA.
- 31:45Speaker 4: We're a little bit different here.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Right. We'll work for what we want.
