- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. In
- 0:04Speaker 1: the heart of Milwaukee, hidden inside a nondescript apartment building
- 0:08Speaker 1: that looked like any other, lived a man whose name
- 0:11Speaker 1: would become synonymous with evil, Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. To neighbors,
- 0:16Speaker 1: he was quiet, strange, and the kind of man who
- 0:19Speaker 1: kept to himself. He worked odd jobs, rode the bus,
- 0:22Speaker 1: bought groceries like anyone else, but inside of his apartment,
- 0:26Speaker 1: behind a locked door and blackout curtains, Dahmer created a
- 0:29Speaker 1: world of horror that few could ever imagine. Between 1978
- 0:33Speaker 1: and 1991, he became a hunter. His prey? Young men
- 0:37Speaker 1: and boys, many of them marginalized, overlooked, easy to vanish
- 0:41Speaker 1: without headlines. He would lure them with promises of money, alcohol, photographs,
- 0:47Speaker 1: small things, harmless things. But once they stepped across his threshold,
- 0:52Speaker 1: there was no way out. He drugged them, strangled them,
- 0:55Speaker 1: and turned their bodies into experiments of flesh. Dahmer didn't
- 0:59Speaker 1: just kill. He consumed. He desecrated. He kept souvenirs. Skulls, bones,
- 1:06Speaker 1: severed heads, stored in his refrigerator and freezer. His home
- 1:10Speaker 1: was less an apartment than a tomb, decorated with the
- 1:13Speaker 1: remains of those who would never go home again. For
- 1:16Speaker 1: over a decade, the police missed the signs. Neighbors called
- 1:19Speaker 1: about the smell, about the screams. They complained about foul
- 1:23Speaker 1: odors seeping through the vents. But time and again, the
- 1:26Speaker 1: monsters slipped through the cracks, shielded by his bland exterior
- 1:30Speaker 1: and society's indifferent to the missing. His crimes escalated, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: with each new victim, he slipped deeper into the abyss.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And the end came suddenly, not by design, but by mistake.
- 1:44Speaker 1: In July of 91, one intended victim managed to escape. Shackled, terrified,
- 1:49Speaker 1: he stumbled into the street and waved down officers. What
- 1:53Speaker 1: they discovered when they stepped inside Dahmer's apartment would send
- 1:56Speaker 1: shockwaves through the nation. Photographs documenting every stage of dismemberment,
- 2:01Speaker 1: body parts preserved in jars and freezers, a sickening museum
- 2:05Speaker 1: of death. Jeffrey Dahmer was no longer an anonymous neighbor
- 2:09Speaker 1: or a forgettable face on the bus. Instead, he was
- 2:12Speaker 1: revealed as one of the most prolific and sadistic killers
- 2:15Speaker 1: in American history. A man who blurred the line between
- 2:19Speaker 1: predator and the ghoul. A man whose very existence forced
- 2:23Speaker 1: us to ask how evil this profound can go unnoticed
- 2:26Speaker 1: for so long. And then, came his voice. For the
- 2:30Speaker 1: first time, the world would hear, not just about Jeffrey Dahmer,
- 2:33Speaker 1: but from Jeffrey Dahmer. His confessions would spill out in
- 2:37Speaker 1: chilling detail, every crime, every compulsion, every nightmare dragged into
- 2:41Speaker 1: the light. In this episode, we step into the mind
- 2:45Speaker 1: of the man who admitted everything. This is Jeffrey Dahmer,
- 2:49Speaker 1: in his own words, via the police reports. On Tuesday,
- 2:54Speaker 1: July 23rd, 1991, I, Detective Kennedy on Squad 126, along
- 3:00Speaker 1: with Detective Michael Dubas, responded to 924 North 25th Street
- 3:07Speaker 1: at Apartment 213 to investigate. Upon our arrival, we were
- 3:11Speaker 1: met by Guards 31PO Ralph and Mueller, who state that
- 3:15Speaker 1: at approximately 1125 PM, they were flagged down by an
- 3:20Speaker 1: individual who had a handcuff on and stated that a
- 3:23Speaker 1: man had threatened them with a knife in Apartment 213,
- 3:26Speaker 1: at the apartment building, 924 North 25th Street. They stayed
- 3:31Speaker 1: at this time. They proceeded to that apartment, and upon
- 3:35Speaker 1: knocking on the door, they were allowed to enter the
- 3:37Speaker 1: suspect's dwelling and began to question him. During questioning, they
- 3:41Speaker 1: state they observed several Polaroid photographs, which showed mutilation of
- 3:45Speaker 1: human bodies and human heads. They state at this time
- 3:49Speaker 1: they placed the individual under arrest for the attempted homicide
- 3:52Speaker 1: regarding the individual, Tracy Edwards, who flagged them down previously
- 3:57Speaker 1: and called for the CIB. At this time, I rode
- 4:00Speaker 1: along with suspect Jeffrey L. Dahmer in Squad 93 down
- 4:04Speaker 1: to the CIB. Once at the CIB, I advised Dahmer
- 4:08Speaker 1: of his constitutional rights and he stated that he fully
- 4:10Speaker 1: understood them and that he wished to freely make a
- 4:13Speaker 1: statement regarding the incident. At this time, Mr. Dahmer states
- 4:17Speaker 1: that he is 31 years of age, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- 4:21Speaker 1: He states he moved to Richfield, Ohio when he was
- 4:24Speaker 1: about six years old, and he was raised there and
- 4:27Speaker 1: attended and graduated from Revere High School. He states he
- 4:31Speaker 1: spent three years in the Army after graduation and moved
- 4:34Speaker 1: back to Milwaukee when he was approximately 23 years old
- 4:37Speaker 1: or so. The subject states he has a father who
- 4:41Speaker 1: lives in Pennsylvania and a mother who lives in California.
- 4:44Speaker 1: She states he has one brother, 26, living in Cincinnati
- 4:48Speaker 1: and his grandmother on his father's side lives in Milwaukee.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Subject states he was raised in the Protestant faith as
- 4:55Speaker 1: he was growing up but he now considers himself to
- 4:58Speaker 1: be an atheist. He admitted that he had been arrested
- 5:02Speaker 1: in the past and he states he is currently on
- 5:04Speaker 1: probation for taking Polaroid pictures of a minor. Subject states
- 5:08Speaker 1: that when he was 18 years of age and living
- 5:11Speaker 1: in Richfield, Ohio he picked up a hitchhiker whom he
- 5:14Speaker 1: described as a white male about 19 years of age.
- 5:18Speaker 1: He states that he took him home and had homosexual
- 5:21Speaker 1: sex with him and states they were drinking beer and
- 5:24Speaker 1: became intoxicated. He states they got into a physical fight
- 5:28Speaker 1: because the 19-year-old individual tried to leave and that during
- 5:31Speaker 1: the fight, he states that he struck the hitchhiker with
- 5:34Speaker 1: a barbell. He states that the blow of the barbell
- 5:37Speaker 1: caused the death of the hitchhiker, and at this time,
- 5:40Speaker 1: he took the body out into the wooded area by
- 5:43Speaker 1: his house and left it there to decompose for about
- 5:45Speaker 1: two weeks. He states he returned with a sledgehammer at
- 5:49Speaker 1: this time and used it to break the bones and
- 5:52Speaker 1: then scatter them about the woods. The subject states he
- 5:55Speaker 1: moved to Milwaukee after a three-year tour in the Army
- 5:58Speaker 1: and a one-year stay in Miami, Florida, where according to
- 6:01Speaker 1: the subject, nothing of this nature ever happened. Subject states
- 6:05Speaker 1: that he moved in with his grandmother when he returned
- 6:08Speaker 1: to Milwaukee and he states that he was there about
- 6:12Speaker 1: he was about 25 years of age and living in
- 6:14Speaker 1: Milwaukee when he picked up a white male approximately 25
- 6:18Speaker 1: years of age at the 219 Tavern. He states they
- 6:22Speaker 1: got a room at the Ambassador Hotel and got very
- 6:26Speaker 1: drunk and passed out. Subject states that when he woke
- 6:29Speaker 1: up the guy was dead and had blood coming from
- 6:31Speaker 1: his mouth. He states he went to the mall and
- 6:34Speaker 1: bought a large suitcase and stuck the dead body into it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: He states he called a cab and placed the suitcase
- 6:39Speaker 1: in it and went back to his grandma's house. He
- 6:43Speaker 1: states that he took the dead body down to his
- 6:45Speaker 1: basement near a floor drain and used a knife to
- 6:48Speaker 1: cut the flesh off the body and dismembered the body.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Placed the various parts into plastic bags and then threw
- 6:54Speaker 1: them into the trash. The subject feels this occurred in
- 6:57Speaker 1: 1984 during the summer. He indicates that there had been
- 7:01Speaker 1: many times that he had sex with men where no
- 7:03Speaker 1: violence was involved and states about two months after this
- 7:07Speaker 1: incident he met a Hispanic male about 18 years of
- 7:10Speaker 1: age also at the 219 Tavern at about 1 o'clock a.m.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They went back to his grandmother's place and had sex
- 7:17Speaker 1: with him and put sleeping pills in his drink. He
- 7:20Speaker 1: states when the guy fell asleep he strangled him with
- 7:24Speaker 1: his hands, and took the body down to the basement
- 7:26Speaker 1: by the drain and used a knife to dismember him
- 7:29Speaker 1: and a sledgehammer to break up the bones, and then
- 7:32Speaker 1: placed them into plastic bags and threw them into the trash.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He goes on to state about a month later he
- 7:38Speaker 1: met a black and white mixed male, about 20 years
- 7:41Speaker 1: of age, in the La Cage tavern on National Avenue
- 7:45Speaker 1: and took him back to his grandmother's house where he
- 7:48Speaker 1: had sex and used sleeping pills with him. He states
- 7:51Speaker 1: that when he was asleep, he strangled him and then
- 7:54Speaker 1: dismembered his body and disposed of him in the same
- 7:56Speaker 1: manner as before. The subject states a year went by
- 8:01Speaker 1: and he met a Hispanic male about 19 years of
- 8:04Speaker 1: age at the 219 Club and returned with him to
- 8:07Speaker 1: his grandmother's house where he again had sex, used sleeping pills,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and strangled him and again dismembered and disposed of the
- 8:14Speaker 1: body in the same way. Subject states he moved to
- 8:18Speaker 1: 808 North 24th Street, and lived there for a year,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and was arrested one time for taking pictures of a minor.
- 8:26Speaker 1: After one year of work release from the House of Correction,
- 8:29Speaker 1: he moved back to his grandmother's house and lived there
- 8:32Speaker 1: for approximately six months. At this time, he moved to
- 8:35Speaker 1: 924 North Street, 25th Street, Apartment 213. Subject states, in
- 8:41Speaker 1: the winter of 1989, he met a black male, about
- 8:45Speaker 1: 24 years of age, in front of the bookstore on
- 8:48Speaker 1: 27th Street, and took him to his apartment, where he
- 8:51Speaker 1: took pictures of him in various sexual poses, and had
- 8:54Speaker 1: sex with him, and put sleeping pills in his coffee
- 8:56Speaker 1: and rum drink, which he gave to the black male.
- 9:00Speaker 1: When the black male fell asleep, he stabbed him with
- 9:02Speaker 1: a large hunting knife, which he describes as having a
- 9:05Speaker 1: six-inch blade, and a black handle. He stabbed him in
- 9:08Speaker 1: the neck. After the guy was dead, he put the
- 9:10Speaker 1: body in the bathtub and dismembered him. He states he
- 9:13Speaker 1: used the knife to dismember him. The subject states he
- 9:16Speaker 1: used a plastic trash container or garbage can to put
- 9:19Speaker 1: the bones in with hydraulic acid and let them sit
- 9:22Speaker 1: in it for about three days until they turn into
- 9:25Speaker 1: a mushy substance, and then he flushed them down the toilet.
- 9:31Speaker 1: The flesh that he filleted from the body, he put
- 9:34Speaker 1: into trash bags and threw them out. The subject states,
- 9:37Speaker 1: he also started with the third victim, boiled the heads
- 9:40Speaker 1: in a cleaning solution, and kept the skulls. He kept
- 9:45Speaker 1: the skulls in the closet, All identification and jewelry of
- 9:48Speaker 1: the victims, he states, he cut up and threw out
- 9:50Speaker 1: in the garbage. The subject states about two months later,
- 9:54Speaker 1: he met a black male about 20 years of age
- 9:56Speaker 1: around Wisconsin and water and walked home with him. and
- 10:00Speaker 1: again had sex, used sleeping pills which was placed in
- 10:03Speaker 1: a coffee mixture and strangled him. He then dismembered the
- 10:07Speaker 1: body and disposed of him in the same manner as before.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Subject states he began getting quicker at cutting up the bodies.
- 10:15Speaker 1: The subject states about one month later He met a
- 10:18Speaker 1: tall black male, about 26 years of age, at Cessla V,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and they took a taxi home to his apartment, and
- 10:25Speaker 1: he repeated the same scenario with him. But he did
- 10:27Speaker 1: not boil and keep his head. The subject states this
- 10:31Speaker 1: was due to time constraints. Subject states about six months later,
- 10:34Speaker 1: he met a black male, about 20 years of age,
- 10:37Speaker 1: while in Chicago, and rode back to Milwaukee by Greyhound bus.
- 10:42Speaker 1: He states before this he met a Chinese male about
- 10:45Speaker 1: 15 years of age at the Grand Avenue Mall. This
- 10:48Speaker 1: was around May or early June. He states that he
- 10:51Speaker 1: took the bus back to his apartment. It was during
- 10:54Speaker 1: the day or the afternoon. He states that the Chinese
- 10:57Speaker 1: posed for a Polaroid photo and then he gave him
- 11:00Speaker 1: sleeping pills and the coffee rum drink. After he passed out,
- 11:04Speaker 1: he strangled him and dismembered and disposed of the body
- 11:06Speaker 1: parts in the same way as before. The subject states
- 11:10Speaker 1: that the body parts gave off an awful smell in
- 11:12Speaker 1: the trash, but never did anything, so he just kept
- 11:15Speaker 1: following his usual procedure of disposal. Regarding the black male
- 11:20Speaker 1: from Chicago, he states that he repeated his usual actions
- 11:24Speaker 1: with him. Regarding the head in the refrigerator, he states
- 11:27Speaker 1: he met him, a black male, about 25 years of age,
- 11:31Speaker 1: at 27th and Wisconsin, and took him home and repeated
- 11:34Speaker 1: the same actions with him. He states about a month
- 11:37Speaker 1: ago he bought a 57-gallon industrial drum and began placing
- 11:41Speaker 1: body parts in it. Subject states that on about 7-19-91,
- 11:46Speaker 1: he met a white male, about 25 years of age,
- 11:49Speaker 1: near Marquette University, and took him home, had sex with him,
- 11:52Speaker 1: gave him sleeping pills in the coffee rum drink, strangled him,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and filleted him in the bathtub, dismembered him, and placed
- 11:59Speaker 1: the body parts in the industrial drum. Regarding the Chinese male...
- 12:03Speaker 1: The subject states that after giving him sleeping pills, he
- 12:06Speaker 1: fell asleep and he, the subject, went to the bar
- 12:09Speaker 1: on 27th Street. He states that as he left the bar,
- 12:13Speaker 1: he saw the Chinese guy running down the street naked
- 12:15Speaker 1: and police saw him and stopped him. And he was
- 12:18Speaker 1: not speaking any English, so he talked with police and
- 12:21Speaker 1: said that he was a friend that was out and
- 12:23Speaker 1: that he was staying with him. At this time, he
- 12:27Speaker 1: took the Chinese guy back to his apartment and and
- 12:29Speaker 1: gave him some more coffee and rum solution with the
- 12:31Speaker 1: sleeping pills in it, and after he fell asleep again,
- 12:34Speaker 1: he strangled him, dismembered him, and disposed of him in
- 12:37Speaker 1: the usual way. He then boiled his head. He states
- 12:42Speaker 1: it takes about an hour to boil a head. Regardless
- 12:45Speaker 1: his last victim, he states that his ID can be
- 12:48Speaker 1: found in the bedroom of his apartment. Regarding 72391, the
- 12:53Speaker 1: subject states he met a black male about 25 years
- 12:55Speaker 1: of age at the mall on Wisconsin Avenue. He states
- 12:59Speaker 1: he offered him $ 20 in cash to let him take
- 13:01Speaker 1: some nude pictures of him. Once at his apartment, they
- 13:04Speaker 1: drank rum and tea. The subject got intoxicated. Subject states
- 13:09Speaker 1: that he tried to put handcuffs on the victim and
- 13:11Speaker 1: the victim ran out and got the police. Subject states
- 13:15Speaker 1: that he's not sure what happened next because he was drunk.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Regarding the handcuffs, he would ask his victims if they
- 13:21Speaker 1: would allow him to take a bondage picture with the
- 13:23Speaker 1: handcuffs on and that's how he would get them handcuffed.
- 13:27Speaker 1: The subject states there's an ID from the mail he
- 13:30Speaker 1: met on 27th and Wisconsin in his wallet. The subject
- 13:34Speaker 1: states that all of his victims knew that homosexual activity
- 13:37Speaker 1: was the idea and possibly pictures. At this time, after
- 13:42Speaker 1: the subject gave me this statement verbally, I advised him
- 13:45Speaker 1: that I would like to write down verbatim on paper. However,
- 13:48Speaker 1: before I did so, that he would have to let
- 13:50Speaker 1: me know if he wanted to cooperate. And at this time,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I went and got Dr. Dennis's who entered the room
- 13:56Speaker 1: and together we reiterated his constitutional rights, which he understood,
- 14:01Speaker 1: and that he wished to waive them in order to
- 14:02Speaker 1: help us with this investigation. It was during this time
- 14:06Speaker 1: that a four-page confession was written out by Detective Kennedy
- 14:09Speaker 1: and read back to the subject who also read it
- 14:12Speaker 1: and then stated that it was true and it was
- 14:15Speaker 1: accurate and then signed it Jeffrey Dahmer. He also initialed
- 14:18Speaker 1: each page. It should be noted that during the entire
- 14:22Speaker 1: time that I spoke with the subject, Jeffrey Dahmer, he
- 14:25Speaker 1: was given numerous cigarettes, 4-5 cups of coffee, 2 glasses
- 14:28Speaker 1: of water, and 2 cans of Coca-Cola pop. He was
- 14:32Speaker 1: also allowed to use the bathroom upon request. This entire
- 14:36Speaker 1: interview and confession started at approximately 1.30am and finished at
- 14:40Speaker 1: approximately 7.15am. After the confession was completely written out, read
- 14:45Speaker 1: over and signed by the subject, he was asked if
- 14:48Speaker 1: there was anything he would like to do or that
- 14:51Speaker 1: if he was hungry. He stated that he was not
- 14:53Speaker 1: hungry and probably will not be hungry for a long time. However,
- 14:57Speaker 1: he would like to just sit and talk about the
- 14:59Speaker 1: offenses a little bit more. The conversation which followed at
- 15:03Speaker 1: this time has been recorded by Detective Dennis Murphy and
- 15:07Speaker 1: he will file a detailed supplementary regarding what was said
- 15:11Speaker 1: during this interview. Alright folks, we're going to wrap up
- 15:14Speaker 1: part one right here give you some time to go
- 15:16Speaker 1: and get that barf bag, and in the next episode
- 15:18Speaker 1: dealing with the topic, we'll pick up where we left off.
- 15:22Speaker 1: All of the information that goes with this episode can
- 15:25Speaker 1: be found in the description box. What's up everyone and
- 15:28Speaker 1: welcome back to the program. In this episode, we're going
- 15:31Speaker 1: to pick up where we left off with the Jeffrey
- 15:33Speaker 1: Dahmer confession files. On Tuesday, 7-23-91, after obtaining the signed
- 15:40Speaker 1: confession from the suspect Jeffrey L. Dahmer, He requested that
- 15:44Speaker 1: we just sit in the interview room and talk with
- 15:46Speaker 1: him so he can have a couple of cigarettes, some coffee,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and think as to what had occurred. We, Detective Dennis
- 15:52Speaker 1: Murphy and Patrick Kennedy, then talked with Jeffrey Dahmer regarding
- 15:55Speaker 1: his family, and he stated his mother and father are divorced.
- 15:59Speaker 1: His mother, Joyce Flint, is presently living in Northern California somewhere,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and his father, Lionel Dahmer, is presently living in Pennsylvania
- 16:07Speaker 1: and works for the Pittsburgh Paint and Glass Company. A
- 16:10Speaker 1: further check, and that phone number, redacted, Jeffrey stated that
- 16:15Speaker 1: he has not seen either parent for quite some time
- 16:17Speaker 1: and he believes that the last time he saw his
- 16:19Speaker 1: father was 1979. He also stated that he has a
- 16:23Speaker 1: brother in Cincinnati but he has not seen him for
- 16:25Speaker 1: quite a while. We then questioned him regarding his address
- 16:29Speaker 1: at the time that these homicides first occurred when he
- 16:32Speaker 1: was 18 years old and stated that his hometown was Bath,
- 16:36Speaker 1: Ohio and while he was there he picked up a
- 16:38Speaker 1: hitchhiker in Bath, Ohio across from the firehouse and took
- 16:42Speaker 1: him to his house at 4480 West Bath Road, in Bath, Ohio.
- 16:47Speaker 1: He stated they had sex, got into an argument, and
- 16:50Speaker 1: he killed this individual by hitting him in the head
- 16:52Speaker 1: with a barbell. He stated after this occurred, he cut
- 16:55Speaker 1: him up, put him in the garbage bags, and threw
- 16:57Speaker 1: the bags in the woods behind his house to the west,
- 17:00Speaker 1: and left him there for about two weeks. He stated
- 17:03Speaker 1: after the two weeks, he went to the woods with
- 17:06Speaker 1: a sledgehammer and broke the bones up into little pieces
- 17:09Speaker 1: and scattered them about the woods. He stated that after
- 17:12Speaker 1: he joined the Army in 1979, he was subsequently discharged
- 17:16Speaker 1: in March of 1981. He stated that after he was discharged,
- 17:20Speaker 1: he lived in Miami, Florida for approximately one year. He
- 17:24Speaker 1: then moved back to Bath, Ohio for four months. Then,
- 17:27Speaker 1: in or about June or July of 1982, he moved
- 17:31Speaker 1: in with his grandmother at 2357 South 57th Street. He
- 17:36Speaker 1: stated that from the first homicide through all this time,
- 17:38Speaker 1: he was not involved in any other homicides. Regarding any
- 17:42Speaker 1: activity as to why he had kept some body parts
- 17:44Speaker 1: of the victims or whether or not he had consumed
- 17:47Speaker 1: any of the body parts, he stated the only time
- 17:50Speaker 1: he ever did consume any body parts was one time
- 17:53Speaker 1: and it was the bicep. He pointed to his right
- 17:55Speaker 1: bicep of the black male whom he'd met on 27th
- 17:59Speaker 1: and Wisconsin. He stated that the reason he consumed this
- 18:03Speaker 1: bicep was because it was big and he wanted to
- 18:06Speaker 1: try it. He then stated he didn't want to talk
- 18:09Speaker 1: about it anymore. He also stated he would masturbate in
- 18:12Speaker 1: front of the body parts and skulls he collected because
- 18:15Speaker 1: it brought back memories of the victims. He stated that
- 18:18Speaker 1: he would put these body parts in formaldehyde and he
- 18:21Speaker 1: would boil the skulls to get rid of the skin.
- 18:24Speaker 1: He stated that he also spray painted several of the skulls.
- 18:27Speaker 1: This will be reflected in a separate supplementary report. He
- 18:32Speaker 1: stated that all of his victims he killed, which he
- 18:34Speaker 1: believed to be in the vicinity of possibly 15, he
- 18:38Speaker 1: did keep three skulls. He stated that one of the
- 18:41Speaker 1: skulls was from the victim in Ohio and then there
- 18:44Speaker 1: were two others of black males. He stated that he
- 18:47Speaker 1: put these two skulls in acid and got rid of
- 18:49Speaker 1: them that way. He stated that the total length of
- 18:52Speaker 1: time that this occurred was about six years he believed.
- 18:56Speaker 1: He stated the type of pills he used to put
- 18:58Speaker 1: the victims to sleep prior to him strangling them were
- 19:01Speaker 1: sleeping pills with which he had obtained from Dr. Hong.
- 19:05Speaker 1: He stated the reason that he killed these homosexuals and
- 19:08Speaker 1: he stated they were all homosexuals because he wanted to
- 19:11Speaker 1: be with them. He stated that he kept the skulls
- 19:14Speaker 1: of the good-looking ones because he didn't want to lose them.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He also stated that he felt he could hang on
- 19:19Speaker 1: to them if he would in fact kill them and
- 19:21Speaker 1: keep their skulls. He stated the last three skulls were
- 19:25Speaker 1: in the refrigerator and not boiled, belonged to his last
- 19:28Speaker 1: three victims. At this time, Mr. Dahmer said he was
- 19:32Speaker 1: tired and wished to get some rest. He was then
- 19:34Speaker 1: taken to city jail. On Tuesday, 7-23-91, I, Detective Kennedy
- 19:40Speaker 1: of Squad 126, while investigating the above incident and filing
- 19:44Speaker 1: reports down on the fourth floor of the CIB, was
- 19:48Speaker 1: given a message by the head jailer. in LUCAD that
- 19:52Speaker 1: the suspect in this offense, one Jeffrey Dahmer, had requested
- 19:56Speaker 1: to speak with me again. At this time, I proceeded
- 19:59Speaker 1: to the fifth floor lockup where I went to the
- 20:01Speaker 1: cell where Dahmer, the suspect, was sitting. At this time,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I asked if he had in fact requested to see
- 20:06Speaker 1: me again and he stated, yes, I did. At this time,
- 20:12Speaker 1: myself and Detective Dennis Murphy escorted Dahmer back down to
- 20:15Speaker 1: the fourth floor CIB to an interview room where we
- 20:18Speaker 1: conducted the following investigation. At this time, Dahmer stated that
- 20:23Speaker 1: his wish to talk to us about an additional two
- 20:25Speaker 1: homicides that he forgot to mention in the original interview.
- 20:29Speaker 1: This information was given to Detective Murphy and he will
- 20:32Speaker 1: file a separate detailed supplement regarding this. Also during this interview,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I asked Dahmer, What substance was sprayed on some of
- 20:39Speaker 1: the skulls, which were found in his apartment? As the
- 20:42Speaker 1: medical examiner stated, there appeared to be paint-like substance on
- 20:45Speaker 1: three of the skulls. To this, Dahmer stated that he
- 20:49Speaker 1: had gone to the pallet shop, which is an art
- 20:51Speaker 1: store located on South Water Street. He states at the
- 20:55Speaker 1: store he purchased some enamel spray paint, type of color
- 20:58Speaker 1: being fake granite. When asked why he used this spray
- 21:01Speaker 1: paint on the skulls, he stated he sprayed them in
- 21:04Speaker 1: order to give them an artificial look. In case someone
- 21:06Speaker 1: would see them, they would feel they were not real.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Upon asking which skulls he did spray, he stated the
- 21:12Speaker 1: black male which he met on 27th Street was one
- 21:15Speaker 1: of the skulls, the mixed mulatto male which he met
- 21:18Speaker 1: at La Cage on West National, and the second skull
- 21:21Speaker 1: sprayed and a black male prostitute which he picked up
- 21:25Speaker 1: in front of 219 S 2nd Street was the second
- 21:29Speaker 1: skull that he sprayed. At this time, I also questioned
- 21:32Speaker 1: Dahmer regarding the numerous boxes of Soilex, which is a
- 21:35Speaker 1: cleansing powder that was found in his apartment. To this,
- 21:38Speaker 1: he stated that he used the Soilex along with the
- 21:41Speaker 1: water solution to boil the heads, which he had decapitated
- 21:44Speaker 1: from his victims. He stated that the Soilex would effectively
- 21:48Speaker 1: boil off the skin and hair from the skulls in
- 21:51Speaker 1: about an hour's time. He also stated one of the
- 21:54Speaker 1: torsos that he had taken from a victim, he had
- 21:57Speaker 1: also boiled in a large kettle, which he kept in Soilex.
- 22:01Speaker 1: At this time, I also questioned Dahmer regarding homicide investigation
- 22:05Speaker 1: of Dean Vaughn, who also resided at 924th North 25th
- 22:09Speaker 1: Street on the third floor. To this, Dahmer stated he
- 22:14Speaker 1: recalled several months ago a detective coming to his apartment
- 22:17Speaker 1: to question him regarding the Dean Vaughn homicide. He states
- 22:21Speaker 1: he in no way had anything to do with this.
- 22:23Speaker 1: He states when the detective came to his door, he
- 22:25Speaker 1: felt that he was sure he was going to be
- 22:27Speaker 1: apprehended for the numerous homicides which he has already admitted to. However,
- 22:33Speaker 1: when the detective began speaking of a black male by
- 22:35Speaker 1: the name of Dean Vaughn, he was relieved. As he
- 22:38Speaker 1: knew he had nothing to do with that, and he
- 22:40Speaker 1: told the detective so. He states he had nothing to
- 22:43Speaker 1: do with Vaughn's homicide, and since he has already admitted
- 22:46Speaker 1: to several other homicides, he would not be afraid to
- 22:49Speaker 1: admit it if he had participated in that offense. At
- 22:52Speaker 1: this time, there was one question which I asked Dahmer,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and that was pertaining to the fact that numerous types
- 22:59Speaker 1: of ether were found in his apartment. And to this,
- 23:02Speaker 1: he stated that he brought the ether in an attempt
- 23:05Speaker 1: to use it on some of his victims after he
- 23:07Speaker 1: drugged them to attempt to keep them in a sleep-like
- 23:10Speaker 1: state longer. However, he stated that the ether did not
- 23:13Speaker 1: work very well and only made them slightly intoxicated or
- 23:16Speaker 1: high and didn't put them to sleep. At this time,
- 23:19Speaker 1: my part in the interview of Dahmer was terminated. Report
- 23:22Speaker 1: dictated by Detective Patrick Kennedy. On Tuesday, 7-23-91, we, Detective
- 23:29Speaker 1: Dennis Murphy and Patrick Kennedy were requested by the suspect
- 23:33Speaker 1: to come to the jail so he could give us
- 23:35Speaker 1: additional information regarding our investigation. We proceeded to the location
- 23:40Speaker 1: where Mr. Jeffrey Dahmer was taken from the jail to
- 23:43Speaker 1: the interview room at the CIB where he stated that
- 23:46Speaker 1: he had more information regarding other homicides. We advised Mr.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Dahmer of his Miranda rights, and he said he understood,
- 23:54Speaker 1: and he stated, I've told you everything already. I have
- 23:57Speaker 1: nothing to hide, so I might as well tell you
- 23:59Speaker 1: about these ones I forgot. He stated that there was
- 24:02Speaker 1: one more Hispanic male that he met in Chicago about
- 24:05Speaker 1: two weeks ago, just after July 4th, and he stated
- 24:08Speaker 1: this Hispanic male was about 25 years old, and he
- 24:11Speaker 1: met him at Carol's, a gay bar, on Wells Street.
- 24:14Speaker 1: He stated he and this Hispanic male then took the
- 24:17Speaker 1: Greyhound back to Milwaukee and and the Hispanic male stayed
- 24:20Speaker 1: two days. He stated he does not recall his name.
- 24:23Speaker 1: It may have been Tony, but he's not sure. He
- 24:26Speaker 1: stated that after the first day they had oral sex
- 24:29Speaker 1: with each other and got along together. On the second day,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the Hispanic male stated he was going to be leaving,
- 24:35Speaker 1: at which time the defendant, Jeffrey, stated he didn't want
- 24:38Speaker 1: him to leave, so he gave him sleeping pills and
- 24:40Speaker 1: the coffee in order to keep him there. He stated
- 24:44Speaker 1: that after he passed out, He then strangled the Hispanic
- 24:47Speaker 1: male and dismembered him and put his head in the refrigerator.
- 24:51Speaker 1: He stated he did not boil the head and when
- 24:53Speaker 1: he would boil the heads, he would use soy lex
- 24:56Speaker 1: to boil the heads. He stated he also purchased a
- 24:59Speaker 1: 57-gallon drum in which he put the torsos of three
- 25:03Speaker 1: of his victims. He stated he then sprayed some of
- 25:06Speaker 1: the skulls with spray paint so they looked artificial. Mr.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Dahmer stated he purchased the spray paint from the art
- 25:12Speaker 1: shop on Water Street. I then questioned him regarding the
- 25:16Speaker 1: torsos in the 57-gallon tank and he stated one was
- 25:20Speaker 1: that of the Hispanic male from Carol's Bar, one was
- 25:23Speaker 1: that of the black male on 27th Street, and the
- 25:26Speaker 1: third one was from a black male he met at
- 25:28Speaker 1: the bus station in Chicago. I informed him there was
- 25:32Speaker 1: a skeleton recovered in his apartment and he stated that
- 25:34Speaker 1: was from the black male he met in front of
- 25:36Speaker 1: the bookstore approximately one year ago. Mr. Dahmer further stated
- 25:41Speaker 1: he would cut off the penis and body parts and
- 25:43Speaker 1: put them in formaldehyde to preserve them and then look
- 25:46Speaker 1: at them and masturbate for gratification. He further stated he
- 25:51Speaker 1: had experimented with ether to put people to sleep, but
- 25:55Speaker 1: it didn't work. Regarding the other six torsos that apparently
- 25:59Speaker 1: are missing and that cannot be accounted for by the
- 26:01Speaker 1: amount of heads that were discovered in the apartment... He
- 26:04Speaker 1: stated that these torsos had been placed in acid and
- 26:08Speaker 1: were eaten away and then flushed down the toilet when
- 26:11Speaker 1: they became sludgy. Mr. Dahmer then stated he remembers another victim,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and this homicide occurred about five months ago, and this
- 26:20Speaker 1: was a black male about 20 years of age who
- 26:22Speaker 1: he met at 27th and Wisconsin. He stated he got
- 26:25Speaker 1: this individual to pose for him, gave him a drink,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and then cut off his skin. He eventually put the
- 26:31Speaker 1: skin in acid. He stated he skinned the entire body
- 26:35Speaker 1: and then boiled the skull of this individual and subsequently
- 26:38Speaker 1: disposed of the body in plastic bags after dismembering him.
- 26:42Speaker 1: He stated that when he would strangle his victim, he
- 26:46Speaker 1: used his hands and about four times he used a
- 26:48Speaker 1: black strap, leather type, that he had bought for that
- 26:51Speaker 1: specific purpose. Regarding his activities upon joining the army, he
- 26:56Speaker 1: stated he joined in 79 and was discharged in March
- 27:00Speaker 1: of 81, stationed in in Braunholz, Germany. He stated after
- 27:05Speaker 1: that he went to Florida for a year, returned to Bath,
- 27:07Speaker 1: Ohio in March of 82, and stayed for four months.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He then returned to the residence of his grandmother. He
- 27:14Speaker 1: stated he had originally said the killings started in 84,
- 27:18Speaker 1: but to the best of his recollection, he believes these
- 27:20Speaker 1: killings started in 87. Mr. Dahmer stated this was all
- 27:24Speaker 1: he could remember at this time, and he does not
- 27:26Speaker 1: recall any further information. he will contact myself or Detective Kennedy.
- 27:32Speaker 1: He stated these are the only homicides he can recall
- 27:35Speaker 1: being involved in at this time. While questioning Mr. Dahmer
- 27:39Speaker 1: regarding the sledgehammer, he used to break the bones of
- 27:41Speaker 1: his victims while he was living at his grandmother's house.
- 27:44Speaker 1: He stated the sledgehammer was kept in the garage and
- 27:47Speaker 1: had a gray handle. I was subsequently informed by Detective
- 27:51Speaker 1: Farmer that they had recovered a sledgehammer in the garage,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and upon Detective Farmer returning to the CIB with the sledgehammer,
- 27:57Speaker 1: It was shown to the defendant and upon viewing it,
- 28:01Speaker 1: stated this is the sledgehammer he used to break up
- 28:03Speaker 1: the bones of the victims at 2357 South 57th Street.
- 28:09Speaker 1: This sledgehammer will be placed in inventory by Detective Farmer.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Alright folks, that's going to wrap up part two. And
- 28:16Speaker 1: in the next episode dealing with the topic, we're going
- 28:18Speaker 1: to pick up where we left off. All of the
- 28:21Speaker 1: information that goes with this episode can be found on
- 28:24Speaker 1: In the description box. What's up everyone and welcome back
- 28:27Speaker 1: to the program. In this episode, we're going to get
- 28:30Speaker 1: right back to the Jeffrey Dahmer confessions. On Wednesday, July 24th, 1991, I,
- 28:38Speaker 1: Detective Kennedy, Squad 126, along with Detective Dennis Murphy, were
- 28:43Speaker 1: requested at approximately 8.30 a.m. by the suspect in this offense,
- 28:48Speaker 1: Jeffrey Dahmer, to speak with him. At this time, I
- 28:51Speaker 1: proceeded to the fifth floor, Lucad, where I in fact
- 28:54Speaker 1: asked the suspect, Jeffrey Dahmer, if he had requested to
- 28:57Speaker 1: speak with me, at which time he stated he did.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I took him with me from the fifth floor down
- 29:03Speaker 1: to an interview room at the CIB, where we again
- 29:06Speaker 1: began to speak of the offense. During this time, Jeffrey
- 29:11Speaker 1: Dahmer stated that he wished to speak slightly regarding earlier
- 29:14Speaker 1: years of his life in Ohio. At this time, he
- 29:18Speaker 1: states that he remembers his early family life as being
- 29:21Speaker 1: one of the extreme tension. He states that the tension
- 29:24Speaker 1: came from the relationship that existed at the time between
- 29:27Speaker 1: his mother and his father. He stated although he was
- 29:31Speaker 1: not physically or sexually abused and he did not witness
- 29:34Speaker 1: any physical abuse from his parents, he stated that they
- 29:37Speaker 1: were constantly at each other's throats and arguing. He states
- 29:41Speaker 1: that his mother appeared to have some psychiatric problems and
- 29:44Speaker 1: had in fact suffered a nervous breakdown at one time
- 29:47Speaker 1: during his early childhood. He states that he was on
- 29:50Speaker 1: medication and had been seeing a doctor much of the time.
- 29:55Speaker 1: He states that he was advised by relatives that his
- 29:57Speaker 1: mother suffered severe postpartum depression after he was born, and
- 30:02Speaker 1: he took that as an indication that he was at
- 30:04Speaker 1: least partially the problem for his parents' bad marital state.
- 30:08Speaker 1: He states that he believes his mother became depressed after
- 30:11Speaker 1: his birth and never quite fully recovered, and thereby he
- 30:15Speaker 1: states he felt a certain amount of guilt in regard
- 30:18Speaker 1: to the bad marriage of his parents. He states that
- 30:21Speaker 1: when he was approximately 18 years old is when a
- 30:24Speaker 1: divorce occurred between his mother and his father and at
- 30:27Speaker 1: this time his mother moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and
- 30:31Speaker 1: his father had been court ordered to stay out of
- 30:33Speaker 1: the house and had moved to a motel which was
- 30:36Speaker 1: several miles from the house. He states at this time
- 30:40Speaker 1: his mother took his younger brother who was approximately six
- 30:43Speaker 1: years younger than him when she moved out and that
- 30:46Speaker 1: he was left all alone in the house in Richfield, Ohio.
- 30:51Speaker 1: He states that it was at this time he started
- 30:53Speaker 1: to have strong feelings of being left all alone and
- 30:56Speaker 1: that it was at this time that he remembers having
- 30:58Speaker 1: strong desires of not wanting people to leave him. He
- 31:02Speaker 1: stated it was also at this time that he began
- 31:05Speaker 1: hating to sleep alone at night. He further indicates that
- 31:08Speaker 1: it was around this time in his life that he
- 31:11Speaker 1: became familiar with alcohol and that he immediately became a
- 31:14Speaker 1: heavy drinker and abused alcohol on a regular basis. When
- 31:19Speaker 1: he went into the army, he indicates that his alcohol
- 31:22Speaker 1: intake increased and that he was actually released six months
- 31:25Speaker 1: early from the army because of abuses of alcohol. He
- 31:29Speaker 1: states that he was a field medic while he was
- 31:31Speaker 1: serving in the armed forces. The suspect, Jeffrey Dahmer, states
- 31:35Speaker 1: that he began having fantasies of killing people at the
- 31:38Speaker 1: early age of 17 or 18. He states that although
- 31:42Speaker 1: these fantasies were fleeting, he feels that he had these
- 31:46Speaker 1: fantasies to overcome the feelings he had of frustration and emptiness,
- 31:50Speaker 1: which he felt, were in his life. He states that
- 31:53Speaker 1: after he moved to Milwaukee in 81, the fantasies of
- 31:56Speaker 1: killing people began to excite him and became more frequent.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Regarding his victims, he states that he received physical pleasure
- 32:03Speaker 1: from being with victims when they were alive, and he
- 32:06Speaker 1: would have preferred that the victims remained alive. However, he
- 32:10Speaker 1: states that it was better to have them with him
- 32:13Speaker 1: dead than to have them leave. He states that when
- 32:16Speaker 1: he felt when they were to leave, that is when
- 32:19Speaker 1: he would decide to kill them. Regarding the fact that
- 32:22Speaker 1: he stated that he had in fact eaten parts of
- 32:25Speaker 1: one of his victims, he states that he feels that
- 32:27Speaker 1: by eating parts of the victim, this was his way
- 32:30Speaker 1: of keeping them with him even longer and making his
- 32:33Speaker 1: victims part of himself. At this time, Jeffrey Dahmer answered
- 32:38Speaker 1: other questions put to him by Detective Murphy, and he
- 32:41Speaker 1: will file a detailed supplementary regarding that part of his interview.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Report per Detective Patrick Kennedy On Wednesday, 7-24-91, at approximately
- 32:53Speaker 1: 8-30 a.m., I, along with Detective Patrick Kennedy, were notified
- 32:57Speaker 1: by the jail that the suspect in this offense, Jeffrey Dahmer,
- 33:01Speaker 1: requested to speak to us regarding this investigation. We proceeded
- 33:06Speaker 1: to the county jail, where he was taken from the
- 33:08Speaker 1: cell and conveyed to room 407 at the CIB, where
- 33:12Speaker 1: he was re-interviewed by us. We informed Mr. Dahmer of
- 33:15Speaker 1: his Miranda rights, and he stated he knows his rights,
- 33:18Speaker 1: but he just wants to talk to us regarding this investigation.
- 33:22Speaker 1: We then talked to him regarding his childhood and family status,
- 33:26Speaker 1: and a supplementary report will be called in reflecting his
- 33:29Speaker 1: statements to those questions. We asked Jeffrey some additional questions
- 33:33Speaker 1: regarding the first homicide that occurred in Bath, Ohio, and
- 33:36Speaker 1: he stated that prior to that he had just started
- 33:39Speaker 1: drinking when he was 17 years old. He states his
- 33:43Speaker 1: friends were straight that he knew of. He states he
- 33:45Speaker 1: had a friend named Jeff Six, and they all smoked
- 33:48Speaker 1: marijuana in high school. He states that he did not
- 33:51Speaker 1: know of any friends being gay, but that he himself
- 33:54Speaker 1: had homosexual tendencies and had never gone out with a
- 33:57Speaker 1: girl or had sex with any females. He states his
- 34:01Speaker 1: first homicide, which occurred, he believes, around October of 78,
- 34:05Speaker 1: was of a white male hitchhiker whom he describes as
- 34:08Speaker 1: 18 years old, 5'10 tall, skinny build, maybe 150 pounds,
- 34:13Speaker 1: having straight brown collar length hair, not wearing glasses, clean shaven,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and he believes he was not a homosexual. He states
- 34:21Speaker 1: he didn't have sex with this individual, he just invited
- 34:24Speaker 1: him for a drink, and when the individual wanted to leave,
- 34:27Speaker 1: that's when he hit him with a barbell and subsequently
- 34:29Speaker 1: disposed of the body behind his residence. He states he
- 34:34Speaker 1: did burn his clothes and identification. He again went through
- 34:38Speaker 1: the various places that he lived, and after joining the
- 34:41Speaker 1: Army in 79 and being discharged in March of 81,
- 34:45Speaker 1: where he was a field medic in the Army, he
- 34:47Speaker 1: moved to Miami and left about October of 1981. He
- 34:52Speaker 1: states that he then went to Bath, Ohio and lived
- 34:55Speaker 1: there until around December of 1981 or January of 1982.
- 35:01Speaker 1: He states he then moved to Milwaukee with his grandmother
- 35:05Speaker 1: from about December of 81 to to January 82, or
- 35:09Speaker 1: until 88, when he moved to 808 North 24th Street.
- 35:15Speaker 1: He states that he remained there six months to a year,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and then moved to his present address of 924th North
- 35:21Speaker 1: 25th Street. He again states that there was no homicides
- 35:25Speaker 1: occurring until the one at the Ambassador Hotel, he believes
- 35:28Speaker 1: in 84, where the individual died, and he subsequently took
- 35:32Speaker 1: him to his grandmother's residence in and there dismembered the
- 35:35Speaker 1: body and disposed of the body parts. He goes on
- 35:39Speaker 1: to relate that there were three other homicides at his
- 35:41Speaker 1: grandmother's location, and the rest were at his parents' address.
- 35:45Speaker 1: He states the reason there were no homicides from 78
- 35:48Speaker 1: to 84 was because he was busy with what he
- 35:50Speaker 1: was doing. He said he was busy in the army,
- 35:54Speaker 1: and after work he'd go out drinking with the guys
- 35:57Speaker 1: and then go to bed and get up and go
- 35:59Speaker 1: to work. He states when he went to Florida he
- 36:02Speaker 1: was too busy and when he arrived in Milwaukee he
- 36:04Speaker 1: was too busy until he discovered the gay bars. He
- 36:08Speaker 1: further states that he did not have a homosexual relationship
- 36:11Speaker 1: while he was in the army or in Florida. He
- 36:14Speaker 1: states the first experience started after arriving in Milwaukee and
- 36:18Speaker 1: going to the gay bars. He states that he would
- 36:21Speaker 1: not maintain a relationship with the individuals whom he had
- 36:24Speaker 1: sex with and most of them were one night stands.
- 36:28Speaker 1: He states he enjoyed the company of these individuals, but
- 36:31Speaker 1: did not like to see them go. After the murder started,
- 36:35Speaker 1: he states that being with these other homosexuals gave him
- 36:38Speaker 1: pleasure and he preferred them alive. But if they wanted
- 36:41Speaker 1: to leave and he couldn't have them alive, then he
- 36:45Speaker 1: would have them dead and that's why he would dismember
- 36:47Speaker 1: them and save either their skulls or other body parts.
- 36:51Speaker 1: He states that the victims whose right bicep he had
- 36:54Speaker 1: eaten was one of that he cared for and the
- 36:57Speaker 1: individual had big biceps. He stated that he put Crisco
- 37:01Speaker 1: on the bicep, softened it up with a meat tenderizer,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and then fried it in a skillet. He states he
- 37:08Speaker 1: also saved this individual's heart in the freezer and a
- 37:11Speaker 1: portion of an arm from the blackmail that he had
- 37:14Speaker 1: met at a bookstore about one year ago. He states
- 37:17Speaker 1: he did intend to consume these parts. He also states
- 37:20Speaker 1: that he had killed the individuals he had anal or
- 37:24Speaker 1: oral sex with, the victims after death, but not all
- 37:27Speaker 1: of them. He states that when he was in high school,
- 37:30Speaker 1: he had fantasized about killing someone, but it did not
- 37:32Speaker 1: take effect until 78 the first time and then later
- 37:36Speaker 1: in 1984 in Milwaukee. We asked him why he didn't
- 37:41Speaker 1: just have oral or anal sex with the individuals while
- 37:44Speaker 1: they were alive and let them go. And he stated
- 37:47Speaker 1: because he didn't want to lose them and that the
- 37:49Speaker 1: death and dismemberment led to the excitement and gratification. We
- 37:54Speaker 1: then asked him if he ever talked to a psychiatrist
- 37:56Speaker 1: and he stated that he talked to a Dr. Crowley
- 37:59Speaker 1: who works for the social services a couple of times,
- 38:02Speaker 1: possibly two or three times in the past month or so.
- 38:05Speaker 1: He states that Dr. Crowley had prescribed medication for him,
- 38:08Speaker 1: but he states he didn't get any because he felt
- 38:11Speaker 1: he didn't need it. He also states that he was
- 38:14Speaker 1: fired from his job on July 17th, 1991. and had
- 38:17Speaker 1: he known the week prior that he was going to
- 38:19Speaker 1: get fired, and he feels this is the reason why
- 38:22Speaker 1: the killings escalated, because he was alone at night and
- 38:25Speaker 1: did not want to be alone. He had no company
- 38:29Speaker 1: and felt that these individuals would keep him company. We
- 38:31Speaker 1: were then informed by Detective Lieutenant David Kane that his attorney,
- 38:36Speaker 1: Wendy Patrickus, had arrived with a psychiatrist by the name
- 38:40Speaker 1: of Dr. Smell. Dr. Smell did in fact interview the suspect,
- 38:44Speaker 1: and when he finished the interview, He informed us that
- 38:46Speaker 1: the suspect wanted to talk to detectives and get cigarettes
- 38:50Speaker 1: and coffee. We then asked Mr. Dahmer if he would
- 38:53Speaker 1: be willing to view the photos that he had taken,
- 38:56Speaker 1: namely the Polaroids that were recovered in his apartment, and
- 39:00Speaker 1: try to identify the victims for us, and he stated
- 39:02Speaker 1: that he would. And he would look at any other
- 39:05Speaker 1: photos we had available of any of the alleged victims
- 39:09Speaker 1: and try to make identification for us. He also stated
- 39:12Speaker 1: that he will try to remember any physical descriptions of
- 39:15Speaker 1: the victims to help us discover their identity. We then
- 39:19Speaker 1: informed Mr. Dahmer of the probable cause hearing which would
- 39:22Speaker 1: be taking effect this afternoon and he stated that he
- 39:25Speaker 1: would like to talk to us after that hearing. This
- 39:29Speaker 1: report was done. by Dennis Murphy. Alright folks, we're going
- 39:32Speaker 1: to wrap up right here and in the next episode
- 39:34Speaker 1: dealing with the topic, we'll pick up where we left off.
- 39:38Speaker 1: All of the information that goes with this episode can
- 39:40Speaker 1: be found in the description box. What's up everyone and
- 39:44Speaker 1: welcome back to the program. In this episode, we're getting
- 39:47Speaker 1: right back to the Jeffrey Dahmer Confession. On Wednesday, 7-24-91,
- 39:53Speaker 1: we took the suspect Jeffrey Dahmer from his cell and
- 39:56Speaker 1: conveyed him to the CIB where he met with his attorney,
- 39:58Speaker 1: Gerald Boyle, and his assistant, Wendy Patrikis. At that time,
- 40:03Speaker 1: he signed a consent form to talk with us regarding
- 40:05Speaker 1: this investigation on anything related to the Wisconsin homicides. At
- 40:10Speaker 1: approximately 4-20 p.m., we sat with Jeffrey in room 407
- 40:15Speaker 1: of the detective bureau and gave him cigarettes, coffee, and
- 40:18Speaker 1: soda and questioned him regarding the Polaroid photos that he
- 40:22Speaker 1: had taken of the homicide victims in an attempt to
- 40:24Speaker 1: make identification of these individuals and to establish an order
- 40:28Speaker 1: of the homicides and what had actually occurred. Mr. Dahmer
- 40:33Speaker 1: stated that he would be glad to cooperate with us
- 40:35Speaker 1: in any way. We started with the first homicide committed
- 40:39Speaker 1: in Milwaukee and he stated that it occurred in either
- 40:42Speaker 1: November of 84 or November of 1985. To the best
- 40:46Speaker 1: of his recollection, he stated that he met his victim
- 40:49Speaker 1: and they went to the Ambassador Hotel. He described this
- 40:53Speaker 1: individual as a white male, 25 years old, 5'6, 130 pounds,
- 40:58Speaker 1: slim build, blonde hair, shoulder length straight, maybe parted in
- 41:01Speaker 1: the middle, and clean shaven. He stated that he was
- 41:06Speaker 1: a fair complected and smooth skin and was possibly wearing jeans.
- 41:11Speaker 1: He indicated that he went to the hotel with the individual.
- 41:15Speaker 1: They were drinking, and he gave them a drink which
- 41:18Speaker 1: contained sleeping pills. When he awoke, the subject was dead
- 41:22Speaker 1: next to him and blood was coming from his mouth.
- 41:25Speaker 1: He stated that he then put the subject in a
- 41:27Speaker 1: suitcase and took a cab to his grandmother's house at
- 41:32Speaker 1: 2357 South 57th Street where he drained the blood, cut
- 41:35Speaker 1: the body up, and used a sledgehammer to break the bones.
- 41:39Speaker 1: He stated that he then disposed of the body in
- 41:42Speaker 1: a plastic garbage bag. He indicated that in January of
- 41:46Speaker 1: 85 or 86, he met victim number two in front
- 41:49Speaker 1: of the 219 club on 2nd Street. He stated that
- 41:53Speaker 1: the victim was waiting for a bus, which was heading
- 41:56Speaker 1: towards the south side. He described this individual as a
- 41:59Speaker 1: Hispanic male, 16 to 18, 6 foot, 150 pounds, slim build,
- 42:03Speaker 1: dark straight, short hair, clean shaven, possibly wearing a shirt
- 42:07Speaker 1: and tennis shoes. He stated that when he met this
- 42:11Speaker 1: individual and all of the victims, he would approach them
- 42:14Speaker 1: and asked if they would like to make money by
- 42:16Speaker 1: posing for him in the nude, viewing videos and coming
- 42:20Speaker 1: for a drink at his residence. He related that he
- 42:23Speaker 1: would offer various amounts of money to these individuals. He
- 42:27Speaker 1: stated that each individual accepted his offer and would go
- 42:30Speaker 1: with him to the residence. He indicated that the second
- 42:34Speaker 1: victim went to his grandmother's house with him taking the
- 42:37Speaker 1: potion killed by him. strangulation, and then smashed the bones
- 42:41Speaker 1: with a sledgehammer and disposed of the bones. He stated
- 42:45Speaker 1: that he did not keep anything from this individual, nor
- 42:48Speaker 1: did he keep anything from the first victim. The third
- 42:50Speaker 1: victim he met about two months later, probably March of
- 42:54Speaker 1: 1985 or 86. He stated that he met another Hispanic
- 42:58Speaker 1: male in the Phoenix Bar located on 2nd Street near
- 43:01Speaker 1: the 219 Club. He related that this individual was a
- 43:05Speaker 1: Hispanic male, 19 to 21 years old, 5'8, 130, slim build,
- 43:10Speaker 1: light brown complexion, having straight, short black hair, clean shaven,
- 43:15Speaker 1: and smooth skin. He was wearing a long knee-length brownish
- 43:19Speaker 1: vinyl coat. He stated he asked this individual to come
- 43:23Speaker 1: to his residence to look at videos, take photos, or
- 43:26Speaker 1: engage in sex. He stated that this victim did accompany
- 43:30Speaker 1: him to his grandmother's house where he had oral sex
- 43:32Speaker 1: with him. He then proceeded to drug this individual so
- 43:35Speaker 1: he slept. He subsequently killed him, dismembered the body, and
- 43:39Speaker 1: disposed of it. He related that he did not keep
- 43:42Speaker 1: any body parts from this victim. The fourth victim, whom
- 43:46Speaker 1: he stated he met sometime in 87, but is not
- 43:50Speaker 1: sure because it could have been when he was at
- 43:52Speaker 1: his grandmother's house the second time in 89. He was
- 43:55Speaker 1: not sure of his dates, but he stated that he
- 43:58Speaker 1: did meet this individual at La Cage at closing time
- 44:01Speaker 1: upon viewing a photo of Anthony Sears, date of birth 12865,
- 44:07Speaker 1: He stated that this is the individual that he believes
- 44:10Speaker 1: he met at La Cage. He described his victim as
- 44:13Speaker 1: a black male, 21-22 years old, 5'9, 150 pounds, slim
- 44:19Speaker 1: to medium build, light complexion, having short curly hair, a
- 44:23Speaker 1: small ponytail and back with a rubber band. He stated
- 44:27Speaker 1: that he was wearing jeans. He stated that this individual,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and he identified as Anthony Sears through a photo of
- 44:34Speaker 1: Anthony Sears, got into his friend's auto, and his friend
- 44:37Speaker 1: drove him to his grandmother's house. He described the auto
- 44:41Speaker 1: as a large, beat-up, older model, dark blue. He indicated
- 44:45Speaker 1: that after arriving at the residence, he used the same
- 44:48Speaker 1: ploy to get the individual to come with him. He
- 44:51Speaker 1: related that when they got there, they engaged in sex,
- 44:54Speaker 1: he gave them a drink, and subsequently killed them and
- 44:58Speaker 1: dismembered the body. He indicated that this is the first
- 45:01Speaker 1: one where he kept anything of the individual. He stated
- 45:04Speaker 1: that he kept the victim's skull which he boiled to
- 45:07Speaker 1: remove all the skin. He kept the scalp with the
- 45:10Speaker 1: small ponytail because he liked it and he kept the
- 45:13Speaker 1: genitals of this person. He stated at the time of
- 45:17Speaker 1: this arrest it was the black metal cabinet. He also
- 45:20Speaker 1: stated to preserve the skull and genitals he had called
- 45:23Speaker 1: the hardware store and asked what would dry out rabbit skin.
- 45:27Speaker 1: and they recommended acetone, which he used to dry out
- 45:30Speaker 1: the scalp and genital area. He stated the reason he
- 45:34Speaker 1: kept the scalp was because he liked it. He also
- 45:37Speaker 1: stated that the skull he kept, he painted. The fifth
- 45:41Speaker 1: victim was two months after he moved into the apartment
- 45:44Speaker 1: at 924 North 25th Street, which he figures was in 1990.
- 45:49Speaker 1: He stated that this individual was the first one he
- 45:52Speaker 1: also took photos of. We showed him a photo album
- 45:55Speaker 1: which contained 15 photos of a black male in various
- 45:58Speaker 1: positions and he identified this individual as the person he
- 46:02Speaker 1: met in the 219 club area and offered him the
- 46:05Speaker 1: same line as to come to be photographed to have
- 46:08Speaker 1: a drink and look at dirty videos. He indicated that
- 46:12Speaker 1: this victim agreed and took him to 924 North and
- 46:16Speaker 1: there he drugged him and subsequently killed him by strangulation.
- 46:21Speaker 1: After removing his clothes, he saw the tattoo Cash D
- 46:24Speaker 1: on his chest with a pitchfork going up above the
- 46:26Speaker 1: name Cash. The photograph in the album depicts this openly.
- 46:31Speaker 1: He described this individual as a black male, 22 years,
- 46:34Speaker 1: 5'8 to 5'9, 140 pounds, curly black hair with a
- 46:38Speaker 1: slight mustache. The photo also depicts this. He stated that
- 46:43Speaker 1: after Cash D had died, he had oral sex on him.
- 46:47Speaker 1: The next individual, Victim 6, was met at the Phoenix
- 46:51Speaker 1: on 2nd Street, and he again approached this individual with
- 46:54Speaker 1: the same line as to having to pose for photos
- 46:57Speaker 1: and having to view videos and drink. He describes this
- 47:00Speaker 1: individual as a black male, about 24, 6'2, 170 pounds,
- 47:05Speaker 1: medium build, dark skin, prematurely bald, close cut hair, clean shaven,
- 47:10Speaker 1: and he said, he used to be with the Milwaukee Ballet.
- 47:14Speaker 1: He states that he had oral sex with this individual
- 47:17Speaker 1: and then killed him by the same procedure, drugging him
- 47:19Speaker 1: until he slept, strangled him, then dismembering him. He states
- 47:24Speaker 1: he did not keep anything from this individual. Upon viewing
- 47:27Speaker 1: a photograph of a missing person, he identified victim number
- 47:30Speaker 1: six being Smith Edward Warren. He states that this photo
- 47:36Speaker 1: does look like the individual picked up and states he
- 47:39Speaker 1: did not keep any body parts. Regarding victim number five,
- 47:42Speaker 1: Cash D., He states he did keep this individual's skull
- 47:46Speaker 1: and painted it after it had dried out. He then
- 47:49Speaker 1: continued on with victim number seven, who he stated he
- 47:52Speaker 1: met in front of the bookstore in the 800 block
- 47:56Speaker 1: of 27th Street. He states this occurred in the summer
- 47:59Speaker 1: of 1990 and he describes them as a blackmail. 24,
- 48:02Speaker 1: 6 foot, 160 pounds, medium build, medium complexion, chin whiskers,
- 48:09Speaker 1: short black hair, and states he approached him with the
- 48:11Speaker 1: same line, had sex, and then drugged him and killed
- 48:14Speaker 1: him by cutting his throat. He states that after taking
- 48:19Speaker 1: photos of this individual, he dismembered him, disposed of the
- 48:22Speaker 1: body parts, except for his bicep, which he kept in
- 48:25Speaker 1: the freezer, and his skull, which he painted after the
- 48:28Speaker 1: skin was removed and it had dried. He states he
- 48:32Speaker 1: met victim number eight at the second and Wisconsin by
- 48:35Speaker 1: the bank about two months after victim number seven. He
- 48:38Speaker 1: states that this individual was a black male, about 25
- 48:41Speaker 1: foot nine, 150 pounds, slim build, medium to dark complexion,
- 48:46Speaker 1: short black hair. And they walked to his residence up
- 48:49Speaker 1: Wisconsin Avenue. He states he approached them with the same line.
- 48:55Speaker 1: And when they got into his apartment, they drank and talked,
- 48:58Speaker 1: but didn't have any sex because he wasn't his type.
- 49:01Speaker 1: He states that he killed him because he had already
- 49:03Speaker 1: given this individual the potion and after doing that he
- 49:06Speaker 1: did not want to have sex with him and he
- 49:08Speaker 1: thought this individual would wake up and be pissed off
- 49:11Speaker 1: so he killed him. He states he did not keep
- 49:14Speaker 1: anything from this individual after he dismembered him because the
- 49:17Speaker 1: man wasn't his type. He continues on that he met
- 49:22Speaker 1: victim number nine in February of 91, and the subject
- 49:25Speaker 1: was waiting for a bus by Marquette. He states this
- 49:28Speaker 1: occurred about four months after meeting victim number eight. He
- 49:32Speaker 1: describes this individual as a black male, 18, six foot,
- 49:35Speaker 1: 140 pounds, slim build, medium complexion, with a 3-inch perm
- 49:40Speaker 1: and a thin mustache. He states that he approached him
- 49:44Speaker 1: with the same offer, and when the guy agreed to
- 49:46Speaker 1: accompany him to his apartment, subsequently gave him the drink,
- 49:50Speaker 1: had oral sex, and then killed him by strangulation. He
- 49:54Speaker 1: stated that he used the strap to strangle him, this time,
- 49:58Speaker 1: and that the subject was wearing an earring. He states
- 50:01Speaker 1: that he kept the skull of this individual, the hands,
- 50:03Speaker 1: and the genitals. Upon viewing a family photograph, which was
- 50:08Speaker 1: submitted by one of the relatives, this individual was identified
- 50:11Speaker 1: as being Curtis Staudter, date of birth 4-16-73. He continued
- 50:18Speaker 1: that he met the victim number 10 in March of
- 50:21Speaker 1: 91 on the corner of 27th and Kilbourne. He described
- 50:25Speaker 1: him as a black male, 25, 5'9-5'10, 150 pounds, short
- 50:27Speaker 1: black hair, medium build, and a medium complexion. He stated
- 50:34Speaker 1: that he went through the same procedure in meeting this
- 50:36Speaker 1: individual and the same offers, and upon getting him to
- 50:39Speaker 1: his residence, he subsequently drank the potion where he strangled
- 50:43Speaker 1: him and had oral sex with the victim after his death. Mr.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Dahmer viewed the photo of Errol Lindsay and states he
- 50:52Speaker 1: believes it's the same individual whom he identified as victim
- 50:55Speaker 1: number 10. He states he also saved this individual's skull.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Alright folks, we're going to wrap up right here. And
- 51:01Speaker 1: in the next episode dealing with the topic we're going
- 51:03Speaker 1: to pick up where we left off. All of the
- 51:06Speaker 1: information that goes with this episode can be found in
- 51:09Speaker 1: the description box. What's up everyone and welcome back to
- 51:12Speaker 1: the program. In this episode we're going to pick up
- 51:15Speaker 1: where we left off with the Jeffrey Dahmer confession. He
- 51:20Speaker 1: continued on that he met victim number 10 in March
- 51:23Speaker 1: of 1991 on the corner of 27th and Kilbourne. He
- 51:28Speaker 1: described him as a black male, 25, 5'9 to 5'10,
- 51:33Speaker 1: 150 pounds, short black hair, medium build, and medium complexion.
- 51:37Speaker 1: He stated that he went through the same procedure in
- 51:40Speaker 1: meeting this individual and the same offers and upon getting
- 51:44Speaker 1: him to his residence he subsequently drank the potion where
- 51:47Speaker 1: he strangled him and had oral sex with the victim
- 51:50Speaker 1: after his death. Mr. Dahmer viewed the B of I
- 51:54Speaker 1: photo of Errol Lindsay and states he believes it's the
- 51:58Speaker 1: same individual whom he identified as victim number 10. He
- 52:02Speaker 1: states that he also saved this individual's skull. He then
- 52:05Speaker 1: continued and stated that he met victim 11 in front
- 52:08Speaker 1: of the 219 bar on 2nd Street around May of 91,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and this individual was deaf and dumb. He states that
- 52:16Speaker 1: this individual's friends drove him to 23rd and Wells and
- 52:20Speaker 1: they were a white female and a heavyset white male,
- 52:23Speaker 1: and they were also deaf mutes. He states that he
- 52:26Speaker 1: communicated with this individual by writing, and that he felt
- 52:29Speaker 1: this individual could read lips partially. He states he offered
- 52:33Speaker 1: this individual 50 bucks to come over and take photos,
- 52:36Speaker 1: to view videos, but it was not known if he
- 52:39Speaker 1: had sex. He states that he gave this individual the
- 52:43Speaker 1: drinking potion, passed out, and when he woke up, he
- 52:46Speaker 1: was dead. He states he continued through the same procedure
- 52:50Speaker 1: as to drain the body of blood, dismembered it, and
- 52:53Speaker 1: disposed of it, and what he did keep this individual's skull.
- 52:57Speaker 1: He then viewed a Wisconsin driver's license with a photo
- 53:01Speaker 1: of Tony Hughes, date of birth 8-26-59, described as 6 foot,
- 53:06Speaker 1: 150 pounds, and lives at Kobe Street in Madison, Wisconsin.
- 53:11Speaker 1: And upon viewing this photo, he states that is the
- 53:15Speaker 1: deaf mute that he had met at the bar and
- 53:17Speaker 1: took to his house and subsequently killed. He identified him
- 53:21Speaker 1: as victim number 11. He stated he then met victim
- 53:27Speaker 1: number 12 in late May in front of Grand Avenue Mall.
- 53:30Speaker 1: He states that he went through the same procedure of
- 53:33Speaker 1: offering money to have photos taken and he describes this
- 53:36Speaker 1: individual as being an oriental male, about 14, but whom
- 53:41Speaker 1: he thought at first was 17 or 18. 5'5, 120 pounds,
- 53:45Speaker 1: slim build, and having dark hair. He states that him
- 53:49Speaker 1: and this male took the bus to his residence and
- 53:52Speaker 1: this individual posed for two photos while he was alive
- 53:56Speaker 1: and then he gave him the drink mixture which contained
- 53:58Speaker 1: a sleeping potion. He states they were watching videos and
- 54:02Speaker 1: this individual passed out. He states that they then had
- 54:06Speaker 1: oral sex with him and then went to the bar
- 54:08Speaker 1: to get some beer because he ran out of beer.
- 54:11Speaker 1: He states that when he was walking back from the bar,
- 54:13Speaker 1: which was located just north of Kilbourne called the Gare
- 54:17Speaker 1: Bay Bar. He saw the oriental mail staggering down the street.
- 54:22Speaker 1: He states he went up to him and the police
- 54:24Speaker 1: stopped him. He states that he told the police that
- 54:26Speaker 1: he was a friend of this individual and he had
- 54:28Speaker 1: gotten drunk and done it before. The police escorted them
- 54:32Speaker 1: back to his apartment and he stated he would take
- 54:35Speaker 1: care of him because he is his friend. He states
- 54:38Speaker 1: he then went into the apartment and subsequently killed this
- 54:41Speaker 1: individual in the same way as he killed the others
- 54:45Speaker 1: by strangulation and after this he had oral sex on
- 54:48Speaker 1: the victim. He states he then took more photographs and
- 54:52Speaker 1: dismembered the body keeping the skull. He also states that
- 54:55Speaker 1: he had anal sex with the victim after death. After
- 54:59Speaker 1: viewing the photographs of the victim that he took, this
- 55:02Speaker 1: was the same individual that had run down the street
- 55:05Speaker 1: and was stopped by the police. A check of records
- 55:08Speaker 1: revealed that this individual had been identified. I can't pronounce
- 55:12Speaker 1: his name, so I'll try my best, but... He had
- 55:18Speaker 1: been missing since May 26, 1991. The next individual he
- 55:23Speaker 1: met at a Chicago bus station after the Gay Pride

- 55:45Speaker 1: for nudes and view videos. He states this individual and
- 55:49Speaker 1: himself took a Greyhound back to the city and then

- 55:55Speaker 1: he usually does use city vet cab. He states that
- 55:59Speaker 1: they were playing with each other, but they had no sex.
- 56:02Speaker 1: He states that he gave him the drink and when
- 56:04Speaker 1: he subsequently passed out, He then used the strap to
- 56:07Speaker 1: kill him. He states that he did not have sex
- 56:10Speaker 1: with this individual, but he did dismember him, kept his head,

- 56:46Speaker 1: he stated it looks like the guy but he cannot
- 56:48Speaker 1: be sure because the photo is old. Upon viewing this
- 56:52Speaker 1: photo it appears that the nose and lips and eyes
- 56:55Speaker 1: are this individual and it is in fact the individual
- 56:59Speaker 1: Donald Montrell. We then continued on with the photographs he
- 57:03Speaker 1: had taken and the 14th victim. He states he almost
- 57:07Speaker 1: met in Chicago at Carol's Gay Bar after the 4th

- 57:14Speaker 1: states he stayed at the bar until about 4.30 a.m.
- 57:17Speaker 1: and then left with this individual because he made the
- 57:20Speaker 1: same deal with them to come to Milwaukee to view

- 58:03Speaker 1: fell asleep and states he killed him the same way
- 58:06Speaker 1: he did the others, took the photos of him, dismembered him,
- 58:09Speaker 1: took more photos, and then kept the head in the freezer.
- 58:13Speaker 1: We had obtained a name as possibly being Jeremiah Weinberger
- 58:17Speaker 1: due to the fact that there was a missing report
- 58:19Speaker 1: from Chicago and a photo was brought to Milwaukee by
- 58:22Speaker 1: Chicago detectives, and upon viewing this photo, he identified it
- 58:27Speaker 1: as victim number 14. The photo is that of Jeremiah Weinberger,

- 59:31Speaker 1: when he asked where he was going, and this individual
- 59:33Speaker 1: stated that he was going to his cousin's house. He
- 59:37Speaker 1: then went through the same procedure as to invite him
- 59:40Speaker 1: over to his residence to pose for photos, and he
- 59:43Speaker 1: stated that this guy was a bodybuilder and a model,
- 59:46Speaker 1: and he agreed to come along. He states he was

- 1:00:18Speaker 1: subsequently fried on the skillet and ate part of it.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: He stated it tasted like beef. He stated the reasons
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: he kept this individual's identification, because he wanted more pictures
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: than he had taken of him in the various positions

- 1:00:35Speaker 1: he stated was his last victim, was identified by the

- 1:01:20Speaker 1: in the same blue 57-gallon barrel in his residence. He
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: states that these are the only homicides he has committed
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and that the only other one was the one we
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: knew about in 78, which was the one in Bath, Ohio. Mr.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Dahmer states that he is still willing to cooperate with
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: us if we have any more photos or people that
