Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:43Speaker 1: about this week's subject of the Disgraceland full episode, Aliyah.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We're also talking about the difference between em and M
- 0:51Speaker 1: Megan the Stallion and Oprah Winfrey, with the MC five,
- 0:55Speaker 1: Paul Newman and Fleetwood Mac and of course we are
- 0:58Speaker 1: diving into your voicemails, text and more and as always,
- 1:01Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. All right, Discos, let's get
- 1:06Speaker 1: into it. R Kelly married Aliyah at fifteen years old.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Seawan Combs, Sean Diddycombs, along with a bunch of other
- 1:26Speaker 1: A list musicians, continued to work with R. Kelly after
- 1:30Speaker 1: this illegal marriage became common knowledge because Shawn Combs like
- 1:35Speaker 1: jay Z, like Lady Gaga, like Mariah Carey, celebrities excuse
- 1:40Speaker 1: me musicians who worked with R. Kelly after nineteen ninety five,
- 1:46Speaker 1: after the news of his marrying a fifteen year old
- 1:50Speaker 1: broke after the open secret went through the music industry,
- 1:55Speaker 1: that the reason that R. Kelly, well you can listen
- 1:57Speaker 1: to the full episode. That the reason that our Kelly
- 2:00Speaker 1: had to marry Aliyah at fifteen was because, well, you
- 2:04Speaker 1: can listen to the full episode if you haven't already. Anyways,
- 2:08Speaker 1: these musicians again Shaw, Colmbs, jay Z, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey,
- 2:12Speaker 1: continued to work with the pedophile R. Kelly because I
- 2:16Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know why greed maybe at a minimum,
- 2:21Speaker 1: very loose sense of right or wrong to put it mildly.
- 2:24Speaker 1: To put it another way, these mainstream A list celebrities
- 2:29Speaker 1: are complete in total frauds. I am shocked at my
- 2:34Speaker 1: ability to continue to be shocked by this celebrity ridiculousness.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Eminem one point eight million dollars, Lizzo three million dollars,
- 2:45Speaker 1: Megan the Stallion five million dollars. Those are the fees
- 2:50Speaker 1: that these artists charged the Kamala Harris team to perform
- 2:52Speaker 1: at campaign events leading up to the election last week.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Not only did these artists perform okay, they lectured all
- 3:01Speaker 1: of us on the imminent collapse of democracy if Kamala
- 3:06Speaker 1: Harris didn't win. I don't know about you, but if
- 3:09Speaker 1: I thought that we were facing an existential threat and
- 3:13Speaker 1: someone asked me to help out the cause, I wouldn't
- 3:17Speaker 1: charge the millions of dollars to do so. I'm laughing now,
- 3:23Speaker 1: but I'm really pissed. Okay, Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire.
- 3:28Speaker 1: A billionaire. Let me restate that Oprah Winfrey is a
- 3:31Speaker 1: billionaire three times over. She's worth three billion dollars. She
- 3:36Speaker 1: is the richest black woman on the planet. She is
- 3:40Speaker 1: the richest black woman in the history of the world.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And wait for it, she charged Kamala Harris a million
- 3:48Speaker 1: dollars to sit down and talk to her for a
- 3:51Speaker 1: televised event. Since this news broke a couple days ago,
- 3:55Speaker 1: when the Harris campaign announced they spent a billion dollars
- 3:58Speaker 1: and they're losing effort and they still ended up twenty
- 4:01Speaker 1: million dollars in debt, I'm wondering where might they could
- 4:05Speaker 1: have saved twenty million dollars. Eminem Meghan the Stallion Lizzo, Oprah,
- 4:10Speaker 1: Katie Perry, Lady Fucking Gaga for Christ six, John bon Jovi.
- 4:14Speaker 1: This is so disgusting. Anyway. Since the campaign spending came
- 4:18Speaker 1: out a couple of days ago, Oprah, in her defense,
- 4:22Speaker 1: has since made a statement saying that she didn't actually
- 4:25Speaker 1: make the million dollars, that it went to her production team,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Harpo Productions, And I don't doubt that. But to which
- 4:31Speaker 1: I say, Oprah, Babe, you insufferable, disingenuous fraud. You are
- 4:36Speaker 1: worth three billion dollars. Take one for the team, for
- 4:40Speaker 1: Christ's sakes, Suck up the million in production costs, which,
- 4:44Speaker 1: by the way, I guarantee you it didn't actually cost
- 4:46Speaker 1: a million dollars. Those people are on staff, Okay, you're
- 4:49Speaker 1: paying them anyways, And yes, you have extra costs for
- 4:52Speaker 1: the production, but it's all production. It's all part of
- 4:55Speaker 1: the gig. It sunk costs. Shell out the million. You
- 4:58Speaker 1: don't even have to. She are going your pocket for it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It's in your business. You're spending the money anyways. Okay,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you have to charge a million dollars. Do you know
- 5:11Speaker 1: how many votes a million dollars can help you generate?
- 5:15Speaker 1: When it comes to phone banks or getting out the vote.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I don't actually know, but I know that it's a lot.
- 5:22Speaker 1: This is historically dumb. Beyonce ten million dollars reportedly, okay,
- 5:28Speaker 1: ten million dollars to show up, not even to perform,
- 5:31Speaker 1: to give a speech, just to show up, just to
- 5:34Speaker 1: show up and talk. Now, I don't know how real
- 5:37Speaker 1: that ten million dollar number is based on the sourcing
- 5:41Speaker 1: that I've seen, but I guarantee you Beyonce did not
- 5:44Speaker 1: do it for free, and I guarantee you that she
- 5:47Speaker 1: didn't come cheap. I said it before, historically stupid. I
- 5:52Speaker 1: can't get over how dumb this is, how dumb it
- 5:55Speaker 1: is for these artists to take money out of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: campaign coffers such a tightly contested race, when every single
- 6:03Speaker 1: penny matters. Now it's not just their fault, it's the
- 6:07Speaker 1: campaign's fault as well, for thinking that celebrity endorsements matter
- 6:10Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, or if they ever mattered, I
- 6:12Speaker 1: don't know. They clearly didn't this year, and I don't
- 6:15Speaker 1: think they're ever going to again. But most of the
- 6:17Speaker 1: blame here should be directed at these artists. What do
- 6:21Speaker 1: you think the MC five got paid for playing the
- 6:23Speaker 1: nineteen sixty eight Democrat National Convention. I know they didn't
- 6:27Speaker 1: play it for the Democrats, but they played it for
- 6:28Speaker 1: a cause. And what do you think they got paid.
- 6:30Speaker 1: What do you think Frank Sinatra charged John F. Kennedy
- 6:33Speaker 1: for recording the nineteen sixty campaign theme song. Was Paul
- 6:36Speaker 1: Newman charging Eugene McCarthy for his stump speeches supporting the
- 6:40Speaker 1: anti Vietnam war candidate in nineteen sixty eight. How much
- 6:43Speaker 1: did Fleetwood back pocket from lending don't stop to the
- 6:46Speaker 1: Clinton Gore campaign so the baby boomers could feel all
- 6:49Speaker 1: gooey about voting George H. W. Bush out of office.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I can tell you they made bub kiss. They did
- 6:55Speaker 1: it because they sincerely believed in the words that were
- 6:59Speaker 1: coming out of their mouthholes. Okay, those artists believed in
- 7:04Speaker 1: their politics, not like today. Our American politics today have
- 7:09Speaker 1: more in common with professional wrestling than they do with
- 7:12Speaker 1: the pre two thousands political fights. And mostly it's all bullshit. Okay,
- 7:18Speaker 1: It's all a bunch of crap, as demonstrated by the
- 7:23Speaker 1: greed of these celebrities. Now listen. Conservative media ran this
- 7:29Speaker 1: story during the campaign about how all the musicians and
- 7:32Speaker 1: celebrities who were endorsing Kamala Harris were celebrities who were
- 7:36Speaker 1: at Ditty's freakofs Cardi b Jennifer Lopez, Usher, and the
- 7:40Speaker 1: insinuation was that these celebrities were being blackmailed into their support. Okay, now,
- 7:47Speaker 1: this is a very fun conspiracy and one that I'd
- 7:50Speaker 1: be interested in if this news didn't break recently in
- 7:54Speaker 1: the last few days about these celebrities fleecing the Harris
- 7:57Speaker 1: Wallas campaign for millions that could have gone to the
- 8:00Speaker 1: candidate's victory, the candidate they supposedly believed in. It wasn't
- 8:04Speaker 1: fear of being outed for embarrassing or bad behavior at
- 8:07Speaker 1: Sean Combs's house, Okay, it was just straight up greed. Now,
- 8:12Speaker 1: I'm disappointed for a lot of reasons, but I'm mainly
- 8:15Speaker 1: disappointed because the reality here is far less interesting from
- 8:19Speaker 1: my standpoint than the conspiracy. I wish these celebrities were
- 8:23Speaker 1: supporting a political candidate because they were being blackmailed, because
- 8:26Speaker 1: that's an incredible story. But again, no, just greed, fucking
- 8:31Speaker 1: boring greed. Greed is less interesting, but it isn't less angering.
- 8:38Speaker 1: The lesson I have to remember here as a middle
- 8:42Speaker 1: aged man. The lesson is a lesson that I learned
- 8:47Speaker 1: when I was a teenager, and it's that establishment mainstream
- 8:53Speaker 1: celebrities are completely full of shit, and they exist only
- 8:58Speaker 1: to keep themselves firmly in sconced in the establishment. Punk
- 9:03Speaker 1: Rock taught me that, and it's a truism that has
- 9:05Speaker 1: never let me down, and I will believe it until
- 9:08Speaker 1: I die. Why anyone on any side of the political
- 9:11Speaker 1: spectrum will put their faith in the celebrity much less
- 9:13Speaker 1: an establishment celebrity is beyond me.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Now.
- 9:17Speaker 1: If you're one of these people, I'm telling you stop.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Here's your proof right here. These people don't care about you.
- 9:24Speaker 1: They are vapid and soulless, and they don't care about us.
- 9:27Speaker 1: They don't care about me, they don't care about you.
- 9:29Speaker 1: They don't care about their country, they don't care about
- 9:31Speaker 1: your favorite politician. Their status is all they care about.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Their status is all that matters, and the money is
- 9:41Speaker 1: part of that status. When they can combine both by
- 9:44Speaker 1: supporting what they believe to be the winning team and
- 9:47Speaker 1: get paid millions of dollars in the process, and they're winning,
- 9:49Speaker 1: coming and going, we're the losers for believing in them,
- 9:53Speaker 1: for believing in these celebrities, because at the end of
- 9:55Speaker 1: the day, they're just as greedy and dishonest as the
- 9:58Speaker 1: politicians that their support. Now onto the Grand Pooba of
- 10:04Speaker 1: celebrity grossness, Shawn Combs. Here's the news from this week.
- 10:09Speaker 1: First on the disgrace Land front. I'm halfway through writing
- 10:12Speaker 1: a new full episode on Shawn Combs and I've never
- 10:14Speaker 1: written an easier episode in my life. Okay, I've also
- 10:18Speaker 1: never been more horrified. Seriously, this episode deals mostly with
- 10:23Speaker 1: Diddy's violent relationship with Cassiventor that we've all seen unfold
- 10:28Speaker 1: on television. We've seen the video, but there is so
- 10:31Speaker 1: much more to it. A lot of the details that
- 10:33Speaker 1: are going to be in this episode they're coming straight
- 10:36Speaker 1: from the indictment. Okay, the first indictment, the Cassi Evendura
- 10:39Speaker 1: indictment that Shawn Combs paid his way out of. It
- 10:42Speaker 1: reads like its own true crime novel. And researching that
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm in the research that I've been doing. I'm also
- 10:49Speaker 1: starting to see how all the events in Shawn Combs's
- 10:53Speaker 1: life line up over multiple episodes, potential disgrace Land episodes,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and I'm stoked to write cord these for you. I'm
- 11:01Speaker 1: going to pepper them in throughout the year. We're not
- 11:03Speaker 1: going to do like ten in a row or anything
- 11:04Speaker 1: like that, but they'll all be of a piece and
- 11:07Speaker 1: you're going to see that the details here though, these
- 11:09Speaker 1: details are all readily available right now on the Internet.
- 11:12Speaker 1: They're so shocking that the media isn't giving them a
- 11:15Speaker 1: lot of light. Okay, So that's what I'm here for,
- 11:17Speaker 1: to bring you the shocking details, to bring them to
- 11:21Speaker 1: the surface, which with as much dramatic audio storytelling possible.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm stoke for you guys to hear this first episode.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It's going to be our first episode of the new year. Actually, okay,
- 11:31Speaker 1: we've got a bunch of great stuff coming before then.
- 11:33Speaker 1: We got a themed episodes coming next week, which I'll
- 11:36Speaker 1: talk about in a bit. We've got we've got some
- 11:38Speaker 1: Thanksgiving themed episodes coming later in the month, and of
- 11:40Speaker 1: course some Christmas stuff coming new and old that I'm
- 11:43Speaker 1: psyched to be bringing you. But the ditty stuff next year,
- 11:47Speaker 1: buckle up, it's going to be incredible. I'm gonna be
- 11:49Speaker 1: giving you some details, some new details actually on ditty
- 11:52Speaker 1: that broke this week this morning actually in the all
- 11:54Speaker 1: access portion of this after party coming up. But first,
- 11:58Speaker 1: just a quick note on next week's episode. Okay, I
- 12:01Speaker 1: just alluded to this. Next week is the third week
- 12:03Speaker 1: of November, a week that looms darkly every year, as
- 12:06Speaker 1: this was the week President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm obsessed, as you guys know, I'm obsessed with this topic.
- 12:15Speaker 1: We're releasing into the feed next week our episode on
- 12:17Speaker 1: Woody Harrelson. Yes true, Detective Woody cheers Woody. White men
- 12:21Speaker 1: can't jump Woody. And in in Woody story, we get
- 12:25Speaker 1: into the story of his father. Okay, for those of
- 12:27Speaker 1: you who don't know, it is, and it has been
- 12:30Speaker 1: suspected for years that Woody's dad was one of the
- 12:33Speaker 1: three gunmen on the Grassy Knoll the day they gunned
- 12:36Speaker 1: down our last disruptive Commander in Chief, John F. Kennedy.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Woody's dad was arrested that day again on the Grassy Knoll,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and there's a lot of validity to the theory involving
- 12:45Speaker 1: his father. So when you're listening to this episode, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: want you guys to be thinking about all you know
- 12:50Speaker 1: about the jfk assassination and I want to hear from
- 12:53Speaker 1: you for next week's Question of the Week. What your
- 12:57Speaker 1: theories are on who killed jf K and why. Now
- 13:02Speaker 1: Trump says he's really going to release the files, the
- 13:05Speaker 1: JFK files this term, so this could be fun. Okay,
- 13:09Speaker 1: we can create a permanent record here of what the
- 13:13Speaker 1: theories are, what you guys think, who you think killed JFK.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And then assuming we actually find out, we can go
- 13:17Speaker 1: back and we can roll the tape and we can
- 13:20Speaker 1: see who was right, who was wrong. We can piece
- 13:22Speaker 1: it all together, and I promise it'll be more interesting
- 13:27Speaker 1: than al Capone's tomb than the revealing of Bob Woodwards
- 13:31Speaker 1: deep throat. I think this is a really fascinating exercise
- 13:36Speaker 1: that we can all sort of be part of in
- 13:39Speaker 1: the real in real time as it pertains to the
- 13:42Speaker 1: historical record. Super interesting to me, and I think you
- 13:45Speaker 1: guys are interested in this as well. So Woody Harrelson
- 13:48Speaker 1: on Tuesday, along with his dad on the Grassy Knoll
- 13:50Speaker 1: your thoughts on who killed JFK. I can't wait to
- 13:53Speaker 1: hear them and talk about them with you next week
- 13:55Speaker 1: in the after party. And we're also gonna have a
- 13:56Speaker 1: JFK related rewind episode next week as well, but that's
- 14:00Speaker 1: next week. Like I said, for now, a quick break
- 14:03Speaker 1: than your voicemails, text and more back in a flash.
- 14:27Speaker 1: All Right, you guys don't want to talk about Allah
- 14:29Speaker 1: and the greatest female R and B singers of all time,
- 14:30Speaker 1: presumably because the answer is Amy Winehouse and it's not
- 14:33Speaker 1: even worth debating. See what I did there, But judging
- 14:35Speaker 1: from your calls and your text, the subject of greatest
- 14:38Speaker 1: sports town and greatest sports movie a question that arose
- 14:42Speaker 1: in last week's after party, those questions are far more
- 14:45Speaker 1: interesting to you, guys, So me, being a man of
- 14:47Speaker 1: the people, without further ado, Here is Beth in the
- 14:50Speaker 1: three one three.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Hey, jankis best from Detroit, Detroit Rocks, Detroit Tigers twenty
- 14:56Speaker 2: twenty four, Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings, the Pistons when
- 15:00Speaker 2: they're on Detroit is an awesome, awesome, awesome sports town.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Best loved Bill Lambier. I can't lie, and I love
- 15:12Speaker 1: Jim Lalan ripping heaters, smoking his butts on the bench,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and I'm kind of pulling for the Detroit Lions to
- 15:18Speaker 1: get a Super Bowl one of these days. So there
- 15:21Speaker 1: you go, Detroit rock City. All right, let's check out
- 15:24Speaker 1: Barry in the nine oh four.
- 15:26Speaker 3: What is up Buried from the nineh four too much
- 15:31Speaker 3: to text. I'll go through this quickly. I hate to
- 15:33Speaker 3: admit it, but LA has to be probably the world's
- 15:35Speaker 3: greatest sports down definitely America, but possibly the worlds. Yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 3: the football, NFL football out there. You have UCLA and USC.
- 15:44Speaker 3: UCLA with their you know, they have a football history,
- 15:47Speaker 3: but also a basketball history of course, USC with their
- 15:51Speaker 3: football history. You have hockey, the LA Kings. You have
- 15:55Speaker 3: two basketball teams, one like a global franchise, the Lakers
- 16:01Speaker 3: and the Clippers and their shit, the Dodgers from the
- 16:05Speaker 3: World Series, the Los Angeles Anaheim Angels of Anaheim of
- 16:11Speaker 3: the World. Well, I miss so you got all the
- 16:15Speaker 3: major sports. You have awesome college sports there, and they
- 16:20Speaker 3: hosted they hosted the Olympics. So yeah, probably one of
- 16:24Speaker 3: the world's greatest sports cities. As much as it pains
- 16:28Speaker 3: me to admit it. That's all for me, Jake, thanks
- 16:31Speaker 3: for the Pulture Guys episode, and thank you so much.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I'm so so waiting to hear about the nineteen eighty
- 16:38Speaker 3: six New York Mets. My sons are Mets fans from Jersey.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I'm a Braves fan from the humble chaln of Albany. Georgia,
- 16:47Speaker 3: but looking forward to it.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Man, thanks day, Barry.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I hear you, I hear you. I don't like it,
- 16:53Speaker 1: but I hear you. Okay, it's hard for me to
- 16:56Speaker 1: get with Los Angeles. It's hard for me to get
- 16:57Speaker 1: with LA. Randy Newman aside, I was of course happy
- 17:01Speaker 1: to see the Dodgers beat the Yankees, and uh. I
- 17:04Speaker 1: was talking to a Yankees fan the other night at
- 17:06Speaker 1: my son's baseball game, and he was telling me that
- 17:08Speaker 1: the Red Sox lent the Dodgers their plane to fly
- 17:13Speaker 1: back with after the championship or something like that. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: thought that was a classy move, another sort of dagger
- 17:19Speaker 1: in the heart of the Yankees. I also regarding LA,
- 17:24Speaker 1: I guess gun to head. I don't know, man, I
- 17:26Speaker 1: love those Lakers uniforms. It's weird. As a Celtics fan,
- 17:30Speaker 1: I don't know. I had those James Worthy sneakers grown up.
- 17:33Speaker 1: That might be part of it. But yeah, it would
- 17:35Speaker 1: be interesting for someone to tally up the LA championships
- 17:39Speaker 1: versus the New York championships. I don't think it comes close,
- 17:44Speaker 1: even if you do include college championships. I could be wrong, though,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know, Barry, if you want to,
- 17:49Speaker 1: if you want to get into that exercise and hit
- 17:51Speaker 1: me back, go for it, all right. Six one seven,
- 17:53Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. That's how you
- 17:55Speaker 1: get in touched. That's how you leave me a voicemail.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know. The question of the week for next week
- 17:59Speaker 1: it's gonna be what are your thoughts on the JFK conspiracy?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Who killed JFK? I want to know, Let's get it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Let's create a record of it here in the after
- 18:07Speaker 1: party in Disgraceland. All right, six one seven, nine oh
- 18:10Speaker 1: six six six three eight. If you're shy, you don't
- 18:12Speaker 1: want to leave a voicemail, just send me a text
- 18:14Speaker 1: like the nine to one six jake. When it comes
- 18:17Speaker 1: to the greatest sports movies of all time, how can
- 18:20Speaker 1: you not mention Major League in the top ten? Like
- 18:24Speaker 1: Caddy Shack. So many one liners from that from that
- 18:27Speaker 1: movie have been embedded into our culture. Just the bit outside.
- 18:31Speaker 1: It's a brilliant underdog story that resonates now more than ever.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Terrible owner tries to tank the team to move into
- 18:38Speaker 1: Miami and build a mega stadium. It's kind of it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: kind of, you know, the same story, A slap shot
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean, not really, but kind of. I mean, they
- 18:47Speaker 1: definitely get in. I could see the writers of Major
- 18:50Speaker 1: League seeing slap Shot and being like, oh shit, I
- 18:52Speaker 1: know what I need to do. Anyhow, Yeah, I didn't
- 18:55Speaker 1: mention Major League. I didn't not mention it on purpose.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I love Major League.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Really.
- 19:00Speaker 1: The Charlie Sheen character in particular is just hysterical, and
- 19:04Speaker 1: Tom Berenger is just one of the great assholes, like
- 19:07Speaker 1: asshole characters in nineteen eighties film. I don't mean he's
- 19:11Speaker 1: an asshole of a guy. I know nothing about Tom Behringer,
- 19:14Speaker 1: but he just reminds me of those like super tough
- 19:17Speaker 1: guys from my small town growing up, who just always
- 19:20Speaker 1: seem to be pissed. They always drove trucks and they
- 19:23Speaker 1: wore their baseball hats in a particular kind of way.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Tom Behringer kind of embodies that for me, and he
- 19:28Speaker 1: really really brings it to the forefront in Major League.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Great movie. All right, this one comes from the nine
- 19:34Speaker 1: to oh nine. Hey, Jake, this is Luke. I've been
- 19:37Speaker 1: sitting on a recommendation for a while. The nineteen nineteen
- 19:41Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox aka the Black Sox is a story
- 19:45Speaker 1: practically made for you. Keep up the great work. Also separately,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I just listened to the segment in the after Party
- 19:50Speaker 1: where you talked about your ten year old's baseball team.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Youth sports, when done right, is one of the best
- 19:56Speaker 1: things we have going in our communities. I hope you
- 19:58Speaker 1: continue to enjoy the hell out of and if you
- 20:01Speaker 1: haven't done it already, consider coaching a team. It's amazing. Luke. Yeah, man,
- 20:06Speaker 1: thanks for the recommendation. This has been on my radar,
- 20:09Speaker 1: but not on my mind. And you know I've I've
- 20:12Speaker 1: seen part of that John Cusack movie on the Black Sox.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I can't remember what it's called. I need to figure
- 20:20Speaker 1: this out, and I need to watch it, and I
- 20:22Speaker 1: need to I need to do an episode. You're right,
- 20:24Speaker 1: do you need to do an episode on the Black Socks?
- 20:25Speaker 1: And maybe I'll do that for Opening Day baseball next year.
- 20:29Speaker 1: That's actually I like that idea. We've already got our
- 20:32Speaker 1: schedule pretty much set for next year, but I think
- 20:35Speaker 1: I can slot that one in. Maybe maybe Matt Bowden
- 20:38Speaker 1: will allow it. Matt, if you're listening, and I know
- 20:41Speaker 1: you are because you're editing this, think about that Matt's
- 20:43Speaker 1: baseball fan. Maybe it'll happen. As for coaching, I coached once.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I coached my oldest son in T ball, and I
- 20:52Speaker 1: found that by not coaching he was learning more. That
- 20:57Speaker 1: was my theory anyways, and that held until this year.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And uh, I've got I've got a new opinion. I
- 21:03Speaker 1: have the opposite opinion actually, so I'm considering it. I'm
- 21:06Speaker 1: considering it for next year. We shall see. Thanks for
- 21:09Speaker 1: the text, Louke, appreciate you five three zero rights and
- 21:12Speaker 1: hey Jake, Zach from the five to three, Oh great
- 21:13Speaker 1: episode on the Mets. An excellent read for the book
- 21:16Speaker 1: club participants in baseball fans is Ron Darling's book one
- 21:20Speaker 1: hundred and eight Stitches, Loose Threads, Ripping Yarns and the
- 21:23Speaker 1: Darnedest characters from my time in the game. Keep on
- 21:26Speaker 1: keeping on. Thanks for the rec Zach on the book club.
- 21:30Speaker 1: We're gonna have more on that in a little bit here.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I think we're going to talk about in the next
- 21:33Speaker 1: segment we've got we've got to narrow down to two books.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And uh, Zach, man, get in here. It's it's all
- 21:42Speaker 1: women in the book club and me I'm the only guy,
- 21:45Speaker 1: so uh yeah, come on, get in I'll have details
- 21:49Speaker 1: in the next segment. All right, book Club's going to
- 21:51Speaker 1: be end of December, middle of December, something like that.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Before the holiday craziness. I got to do one more
- 21:57Speaker 1: text here, this one, and us to put a nail
- 21:58Speaker 1: on the coffin here of the the question of best
- 22:01Speaker 1: sports town, which grew out of that Mets episode there obviously.
- 22:05Speaker 1: This one comes from my beloved six one seven Hey Jake,
- 22:09Speaker 1: Rebecca from the six one seven, now the six five.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Boston is title town. During the eighteen years I lived there,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I saw nine championships in experience, four in person championship
- 22:19Speaker 1: parades in the city Q the duck boats city shuts
- 22:23Speaker 1: down for our championships. Boston is the best and most
- 22:26Speaker 1: hardcore fans of any city, and we like to brag
- 22:29Speaker 1: about it. And you know what, Rebecca, You're not wrong.
- 22:33Speaker 1: It's Boston. It's always been Boston. There you go, six
- 22:36Speaker 1: one seven nine six six six three eight. Couple dms
- 22:41Speaker 1: at Disgrace lamb pod on the old X machine and
- 22:44Speaker 1: Instagram and Facebook so on X last night. This is
- 22:48Speaker 1: unrelated to the question of the week, but I don't care.
- 22:51Speaker 1: For some reason. Mike, my six year old is very
- 22:54Speaker 1: interested in Big Star. And I'm not trying to be like, oh,
- 22:57Speaker 1: my kid's so cool. It has it's just everything to
- 23:00Speaker 1: do with the logo on the first album, The Neon Star.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think he's seen that on the stereo in the car,
- 23:07Speaker 1: you know, when it shows you the sort of image
- 23:08Speaker 1: of whatever the record's playing. So he's become obsessed with it,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and it got me into listening to a bunch of
- 23:14Speaker 1: Big Star. Last night. I was having a good night
- 23:15Speaker 1: chilling out by the pool listen to the Big Star
- 23:18Speaker 1: and I had this post, just a dumb post on TikTok,
- 23:22Speaker 1: nothing groundbreaking at all, and I said, my head quote,
- 23:26Speaker 1: thirteen is Big Star's best song. My heart quote, have
- 23:29Speaker 1: you heard September Girls? I love September Girls? And Jamie
- 23:33Speaker 1: Smith wrote in the Bengals cover of September Girls is
- 23:36Speaker 1: great and I'm reading this because a I had no
- 23:39Speaker 1: idea The Bengals did a cover of Big Star, which
- 23:42Speaker 1: is incredible, and I'm remembering now in reading this text
- 23:46Speaker 1: the Bengals cover of Paul Simon and Arc Carfuncals Hazy
- 23:53Speaker 1: Shade of Winter for the Less Than Zero soundtrack. Excellent soundtrack,
- 23:57Speaker 1: by the way, Bengals slayerblic Enemy, and it's got me thinking,
- 24:03Speaker 1: have I not given enough attention to the Bengals in
- 24:05Speaker 1: my life? You know? Are they like just a band
- 24:08Speaker 1: that I wrote off as just this like girl group
- 24:10Speaker 1: with a couple of singles and not really worthy of
- 24:13Speaker 1: exploring their catalog? And Jamie here on the old X
- 24:17Speaker 1: Machine has got me reconsidering my Bengals take. I might
- 24:20Speaker 1: need to go back. September Girls is an incredible song.
- 24:24Speaker 1: So it was thirteen Big Star My goodness. Also on
- 24:27Speaker 1: X I bring this up because we had a little conversation.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm not going to read the DMS here. We were
- 24:31Speaker 1: talking about this movie that I watched last week called
- 24:35Speaker 1: Out of the Blue. And I got to tell you
- 24:36Speaker 1: guys about this movie because it's one of the best
- 24:38Speaker 1: music movies I've ever seen. It's directed by Dennis Hopper.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Dennis Hopper stars in it. It's a really cool thing
- 24:45Speaker 1: that happened with this movie. Now give you the premise
- 24:47Speaker 1: of this movie. And again, I learned a bunch of
- 24:49Speaker 1: this on X in conversation with some of you, So
- 24:51Speaker 1: if you're listening, thank you. But I want to share
- 24:54Speaker 1: this with the rest of you. This movie. Okay, So
- 24:57Speaker 1: Dennis Hopper was making this movie. Not sure what it
- 25:00Speaker 1: was supposed to be called, but it was supposed to
- 25:01Speaker 1: be about a young girl who's going through a lot
- 25:03Speaker 1: of troubles. She's seeing a therapist and I don't know
- 25:05Speaker 1: what happens, but anyways, they get close to finishing the
- 25:08Speaker 1: movie and the producers scrap it. They see the dailies.
- 25:11Speaker 1: They hate it, they don't want to finish it. And
- 25:13Speaker 1: Dennis Hopper raises his hand and he's like, I'll finish it.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I'll rewrite the whole thing and I'll direct it. And
- 25:19Speaker 1: the reason he did this and there was some insane
- 25:21Speaker 1: time limit, like he wrote the whole thing in a
- 25:22Speaker 1: weekend and then they shot it over the course of
- 25:25Speaker 1: a week or something like that. They had to take
- 25:26Speaker 1: advantage of the production they already had set up. I
- 25:28Speaker 1: think that's what was happening. But the reason Dennis Hopper
- 25:30Speaker 1: does this, I believe this is in like nineteen eighty,
- 25:32Speaker 1: nineteen seventy nine, something like that. The reason that Dennis
- 25:35Speaker 1: Hopper takes on this opportunity that arises for him is
- 25:38Speaker 1: because he couldn't direct a movie to save his life.
- 25:41Speaker 1: No one was going to let him direct a movie
- 25:43Speaker 1: after the debacle of the last movie. If you don't
- 25:46Speaker 1: know that story, it's basically, Dennis Hopper is like the
- 25:48Speaker 1: hottest actor on the planet because the Easy Rider is
- 25:50Speaker 1: huge and it changes Hollywood. And then they back up
- 25:52Speaker 1: a truck full of money and they dump it on
- 25:54Speaker 1: his head and he goes down to South America to
- 25:55Speaker 1: make this movie. He ends up doing a bunch of
- 25:57Speaker 1: cocaine and the movie's fucking awful. So after that, never
- 26:00Speaker 1: gonna let him do a movie again. And then he's
- 26:01Speaker 1: on this indie whatever, and like I said, it goes
- 26:04Speaker 1: into the toilet, and he takes the advantage of the
- 26:07Speaker 1: opportunity to write it and direct it. Okay, now this
- 26:11Speaker 1: movie you can tell it's fascinating to me. Again I said,
- 26:15Speaker 1: it's one of the best music movies I've ever seen,
- 26:17Speaker 1: because Dennis Hopper was clearly influenced by punk rock when
- 26:21Speaker 1: he made this movie, and by Neil Young, and in
- 26:24Speaker 1: particular again this movie is called out of the Blue
- 26:26Speaker 1: in particular the Hey, Hey My My, Out of the
- 26:29Speaker 1: Blue and the Black Johnny Rotten and all this stuff,
- 26:31Speaker 1: in particular Neil Young's take on punk rock. And you
- 26:35Speaker 1: have this confluence of these two things of Neil Young,
- 26:38Speaker 1: who had his soul as punk as fuck, but not
- 26:41Speaker 1: part of that scene in any way. And he's commenting
- 26:44Speaker 1: on the sex pistols, and he's commenting on punk rock
- 26:47Speaker 1: in that tune. And then you have Dennis Hopper's take
- 26:50Speaker 1: on all the punk that's going on in the world
- 26:52Speaker 1: at the time as well. It's all it all infuses
- 26:56Speaker 1: this character. Dennis Hopper acts his ass off in this.
- 27:00Speaker 1: The young woman in the lead role, Linda Manns, is
- 27:03Speaker 1: just incredible. This movie Guys out of the Blue. If
- 27:06Speaker 1: you can find it, I highly recommend it. A quick
- 27:09Speaker 1: note on this this apparently just went out of circulation
- 27:13Speaker 1: and back in like twenty eighteen twenty nineteen. Chloe seventy
- 27:17Speaker 1: and Natasha Leone or Leon excuse me if I'm pronouncing
- 27:21Speaker 1: her name wrong, the great actress from Sums of Beverly
- 27:24Speaker 1: Hills and Orange is the New Black. They put together
- 27:28Speaker 1: a GoFundMe. They crowdsore or something. They crowdsourced the restoration
- 27:33Speaker 1: of this film and they're the reason that we can
- 27:36Speaker 1: now watch it and I understand why. The female character
- 27:40Speaker 1: at the center of this movie is one of the
- 27:42Speaker 1: most badass characters I've ever seen in a movie. I'm
- 27:46Speaker 1: not joking, that's not hyperbole. She is incredible and wow
- 27:51Speaker 1: the ending. So go watch this. It's a tough watch,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but it's an incredible watch. Out of the Blue. Anyways,
- 27:57Speaker 1: this all stemmed from a conversation we were having on
- 27:59Speaker 1: X and I thought I would bring it to the
- 28:01Speaker 1: rest of you here at Disgrace ANDDPOD on X on Instagram,
- 28:04Speaker 1: uh everywhere six one seven, nine oh six six six
- 28:07Speaker 1: three eight. I'll be back in flash with your emails
- 28:10Speaker 1: and some more right after this. All right, guys, we
- 28:26Speaker 1: are back disgracingipod at gmail dot com. You want to
- 28:30Speaker 1: hit me up with anything, We got this email here.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I appreciate this from Joel gershon Wright saying, Hey, love
- 28:34Speaker 1: your podcast, but a couple things in the last episodes.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Regular listener. Here in native New Yorker who grew up
- 28:40Speaker 1: in the seventies and eighties, and I flagged a couple
- 28:42Speaker 1: of things from the Mets. Episode one. You said the
- 28:44Speaker 1: Yanks were from Manhattan, while I'm a Mets fan to
- 28:47Speaker 1: the core and hate the Yanks, who are indeed the
- 28:49Speaker 1: more upscale, high profile team. They are from the Bronx,
- 28:53Speaker 1: not Manhattan. Okay, listen, I did say they're from Manhattan,
- 28:57Speaker 1: and I should have qualified this in a different way.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I don't disagree with the point that the emailer is
- 29:03Speaker 1: making here, but what I meant meant by that is
- 29:06Speaker 1: most Yankees fans are Manhattan fans. There, most Yankees fans,
- 29:11Speaker 1: most Mets fans are Queen's Long Island, et cetera. But
- 29:15Speaker 1: I also say that from the Bronx repeatedly. But still
- 29:18Speaker 1: I confuse the issue in the way that I described
- 29:20Speaker 1: it in the episode, and I deserve to take a
- 29:23Speaker 1: little heat from it here, and I should probably go
- 29:25Speaker 1: back and correct it. Number two caller here, I'm sorry
- 29:29Speaker 1: the emailer here, Joel says too, Donald Maine's last name
- 29:33Speaker 1: was pronounced Manus, not like you said it, which rhymes
- 29:37Speaker 1: with Haynes. Okay, on that one, I am completely at fault.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I guess I'm taking your word for it, Donald Manus Manus. Now,
- 29:45Speaker 1: I'm not going to go back and correct that because
- 29:47Speaker 1: I say is day have like a thousand times, but
- 29:50Speaker 1: I appreciate the correction here. Let's see here. What else
- 29:53Speaker 1: does Joel say on that note? If you if you
- 29:55Speaker 1: have a need for another producer editor, i'd love to
- 29:57Speaker 1: be part of the team because I love what you
- 29:58Speaker 1: do and I'm obsessive compul about this stuff. Appreciate you, Joel.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Perhaps perhaps someday when we're expanding. We're not in an
- 30:05Speaker 1: expansion mode at the moment. Disgrace mpod at gmail dot com.
- 30:09Speaker 1: You guys want to hit me up all right? This
- 30:10Speaker 1: one comes from Lewis Gooding Fair subject to Stranglers. Hey,
- 30:14Speaker 1: Jake love the show. I wondered if you could do
- 30:16Speaker 1: an episode on the Stranglers. Goes on to say JJ
- 30:20Speaker 1: Burnell could be a bit of a menace, and I
- 30:22Speaker 1: know Hugh Kornwall got banged up for a bit. They
- 30:24Speaker 1: did drugs for artistic purposes. To me, at the start,
- 30:27Speaker 1: it sounded like pub rock and nasty psychedelia, which morphed
- 30:31Speaker 1: into punk with keyboards. Any hoodles, keep up the good
- 30:35Speaker 1: work muchos Love Louis Louis Lewis. I believe it's Louis Louis.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I don't know enough about the Stranglers. That's a whole
- 30:43Speaker 1: in my game, and maybe I'll take this recommendation as
- 30:47Speaker 1: a way to solve that problem. Appreciate it, guys. Disgrace
- 30:50Speaker 1: lampod at gmail dot com want to hit me up

- 31:39Speaker 1: podcast is well researched, eloquently, written in Jake's voice Chef's kiss.

- 32:48Speaker 1: We're doing it sometime in December. I'm gonna figure out
- 32:51Speaker 1: all the details. This week, the date, how you can
- 32:54Speaker 1: all join, especially those of you who aren't part of Patreon,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and most important, what book we're going to read. We
- 33:00Speaker 1: got to figure it out because we've got about a
- 33:02Speaker 1: month's time to do so. And right now there are
- 33:04Speaker 1: two main contenders. I'm gonna talk about it here and
- 33:08Speaker 1: then I'm gonna talk about it on social media today
- 33:11Speaker 1: and tomorrow and in Patreon, and then we're gonna come
- 33:13Speaker 1: up with a final, final choice. So the two contenders
- 33:18Speaker 1: that you guys have brought to the table are Perfidia
- 33:22Speaker 1: by James Elroy, which I'm excited to read, and The
- 33:25Speaker 1: Thin Man by Dashl Hammett. What a name, by the way, Dashel.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I really fucked up there. Maybe I'll have another kid
- 33:32Speaker 1: just to name him Dashel. What do you think think
- 33:34Speaker 1: my wife will go for that? I don't think so. Okay,
- 33:37Speaker 1: So those are the two. Those are the two finalists. There.
- 33:40Speaker 1: We wanted to do something that was Christmasy. Doesn't have
- 33:43Speaker 1: to be explicitly holiday themed or Christmas theme, but something
- 33:47Speaker 1: just kind of set in December during the holidays. Okay,
- 33:51Speaker 1: So those are the two. Perfidia by James Elroy and
- 33:53Speaker 1: The Thin Man by Dashal Hammett. Again, we're gonna decide
- 33:56Speaker 1: this week on Patreon on social media and we'll announce
- 33:59Speaker 1: it and then we'll not sign all those places, and
- 34:01Speaker 1: then I'll get an email out next week with all
- 34:03Speaker 1: the official info and we'll talk about it again in
- 34:05Speaker 1: the after party. Okay, so now's your time, guys, hit
- 34:08Speaker 1: me lobby for whichever one you want there Perfidia by
- 34:11Speaker 1: James Elroy or The Thin Man by Dashel Hammett. Okay,
- 34:14Speaker 1: this episode is nearing its end, but the after party continues.
- 34:17Speaker 1: As you know. For all of our all access members
- 34:19Speaker 1: which you can sign up for today go to Disgrace
- 34:21Speaker 1: lampod dot com slash membership. You're gonna get this extra
- 34:26Speaker 1: added piece of the bonus episode. You're gonna get add
- 34:28Speaker 1: free listening, and you're gonna get some community engagement, more
- 34:31Speaker 1: community engagement than I do in other places. You're gonna
- 34:33Speaker 1: get that on Patreon.
- 34:34Speaker 4: All right, back in flash.
- 34:58Speaker 1: All right, we are back at and on this episode, guys,
- 35:01Speaker 1: we talked about R Kelly and of course we have
- 35:03Speaker 1: an R Kelly episode. It's in our archive. You guys
- 35:06Speaker 1: know about the archive. You gotta know about the archive.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Come on, r. Kelly episode one seventy nine, released on
- 35:11Speaker 1: June fourth, twenty twenty four. We also mentioned the MC
- 35:14Speaker 1: five today. Okay, that is episode Our MC five episode
- 35:18Speaker 1: is in the archive, number one twenty five, released on
- 35:21Speaker 1: April eleventh. My grandmother's birthday April eleventh, twenty twenty three.
- 35:27Speaker 1: She was born back in the other twenty So okay.
- 35:29Speaker 1: So we also mentioned Fleetwood Mac two episodes on on
- 35:32Speaker 1: the Mac eighty seven in eighty eight, September fourteenth, twenty
