- 0:23Speaker 3: Matt flynn.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Yo and welcome in.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It is otb live on location at rouse's burbank and
- 0:39Speaker 3: lee it is the first football friday of the year
- 0:43Speaker 3: that's right we made it we're here no more waiting
- 0:48Speaker 3: no more yearning for football football season is upon us
- 0:52Speaker 3: and if you're Listen or watch the Lane Kiffin show
- 0:55Speaker 3: last night. If you've driven anywhere around Baton Rouge over
- 0:59Speaker 3: the last couple of days, not just today, you are
- 1:03Speaker 3: feeling game day. It is all over campus. It is
- 1:06Speaker 3: all over the city. And we are finally here back
- 1:09Speaker 3: at Rouse's. So to me, that makes it officially official.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It is football at the grocery store, being here at
- 1:17Speaker 3: the grocery store. Makes it official. It is football season because, well,
- 1:22Speaker 3: you know what? This is where we spend every Friday
- 1:24Speaker 3: during the football season. So how could it not feel official, sir?
- 1:27Speaker 4: Amen to that. It is finally upon us. There was
- 1:31Speaker 4: college football last night. So everything kind of felt back
- 1:37Speaker 4: to normal. Everything felt right with the world. I walked
- 1:41Speaker 4: in this morning. Gave a hat tip, nodded to my
- 1:45Speaker 4: guy making the sushi back there. Love that guy. He
- 1:47Speaker 4: is working hard at work. Thank you to Rouse's for
- 1:51Speaker 4: having us every single Friday. All season long. Things haven't
- 1:55Speaker 4: changed much around here. It's still awesome. Walk in, smell
- 1:59Speaker 4: the smells, feel the feels. About 30 people stocking the shelves,
- 2:03Speaker 4: getting everything ready. What?
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's an interesting color wheel you've got there in front
- 2:10Speaker 3: of you of my high.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Well, guess what? It's the only thing left. I think
- 2:16Speaker 4: I'd rather display one or the other. Do you like this? Nope.
- 2:22Speaker 4: That makes it worse. Okay. How about this?
- 2:25Speaker 3: And if you're not, nope. If you're not watching this
- 2:28Speaker 3: on YouTube, because, well, I think the Internet's working today.
- 2:31Speaker 3: He has Florida Gator colored my high in front of him.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Two orange and two blue. That's interesting. That's a choice.
- 2:37Speaker 4: All right. This is not Florida week, pal. It's always
- 2:42Speaker 4: Florida Week. I could have gone with just blue. I
- 2:44Speaker 4: wasn't going to go with just orange because that's Clemson.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Go with the blue.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Okay. Well, we have blue every day. Now we have
- 2:50Speaker 4: the opportunity to go with a different color. I was
- 2:53Speaker 4: going to go with all the colors, but it is
- 2:55Speaker 4: so popular around here. It wasn't on the shelves. Hey, Moose. Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 3: No, Moose, it's fine.
- 3:00Speaker 4: They can see you.
- 3:01Speaker 3: You're not hidden. Moose, this is a different show. We
- 3:04Speaker 3: like to highlight stuff like that. Moose had an army
- 3:07Speaker 3: crawl right there trying to plug something in.
- 3:09Speaker 4: You can see the blue. The ground on the video. Oh, no,
- 3:15Speaker 4: you can't. Oh, look. Well done. Well done, Moose. All right, so.
- 3:25Speaker 4: That's my guy right there. That's my guy making that
- 3:27Speaker 4: sushi back there. At 7.04 a.m. 7.04 a.m. Got to
- 3:31Speaker 4: get it ready. Got to get it tight.
- 3:33Speaker 3: So, obviously, we'll get into what happened in the courtroom yesterday. But,
- 3:37Speaker 3: you know, in OTB fashion, we do like to have
- 3:39Speaker 3: a little fun. Play a little catch up here in
- 3:42Speaker 3: the opening segment. So Matthew in the open there, I
- 3:45Speaker 3: mentioned it does feel like, you know, game time, game week,
- 3:49Speaker 3: whatever game day around town. I don't know.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Do you feel that?
- 3:53Speaker 3: Cause yesterday I was, I was on campus yesterday. So
- 3:57Speaker 3: I did the hay fighting podcast where they got Harrison yesterday.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Harrison play the highlights and it was a zoo. I
- 4:06Speaker 3: mean an absolute zoo. I had a, like a place
- 4:09Speaker 3: to park. I had a place to, you know, a
- 4:11Speaker 3: tag to get into the gate, and it still took
- 4:13Speaker 3: me forever just finding ways to get around all the humans.
- 4:19Speaker 4: On campus? Yes. Wow.
- 4:21Speaker 3: It had like a Friday evening, because you used to
- 4:25Speaker 3: go over there on Friday evening, you get the TV
- 4:27Speaker 3: truck setting up, you got a lot of action going on.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It felt like that yesterday around... It's like 1040. I
- 4:35Speaker 3: went straight from the studio to the podcast.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I love it, and I miss going over there. I
- 4:40Speaker 4: miss getting that feeling because, no, I haven't got that feeling.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I don't feel the football in the air just yet.
- 4:49Speaker 4: It's hard for me to feel football in the air
- 4:50Speaker 4: when it's still hot and humid. It's got to get
- 4:52Speaker 4: a little crispy out there, a little crisp.
- 4:56Speaker 3: That's interesting because most of our time playing football here
- 5:00Speaker 3: was hot. Oh, yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 4: No, I hated it for sure. It doesn't have to
- 5:04Speaker 4: be chilly. I just wanted not to be 98. Okay.
- 5:08Speaker 4: So November. No, no. But, you know, October. Anyway, I digress. No,
- 5:17Speaker 4: I just hadn't been over there. It's been like yesterday
- 5:19Speaker 4: straight from the studio. Had to get straight to the office.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Was really busy at the office. Then I go straight
- 5:24Speaker 4: to the house because. We had an excavator at our
- 5:26Speaker 4: house yesterday, so had to go over there for a
- 5:29Speaker 4: little bit. No, hadn't felt the football feeling just yet
- 5:33Speaker 4: until yesterday evening when I got to watch Colorado-Georgia Tech play,
- 5:40Speaker 4: which objectively was awful football. Yeah. But it was fun
- 5:45Speaker 4: to watch football.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 4: And it was. It came down to the end. Colorado
- 5:48Speaker 4: wins it at the end. They drive. Their young quarterback
- 5:52Speaker 4: does a touchdown pass. But just because, like, a game finishes,
- 5:56Speaker 4: it's a close game, doesn't mean it's a good football.
- 5:59Speaker 4: It was a very poorly played football game from both sides.
- 6:03Speaker 4: It wasn't great.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It was not great. Should I go in Moscona's show
- 6:07Speaker 3: and paste a link to this show again? Yeah. He's
- 6:11Speaker 3: on a show called.
- 6:11Speaker 4: It'll probably last a long time on the chat.
- 6:13Speaker 3: He's on a show called Overtime with Matt Moscona. Should
- 6:16Speaker 3: I go in there and post a link to this
- 6:18Speaker 3: show again? You think he'll delete it again?
- 6:20Speaker 4: In 10 seconds.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Like yesterday.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, what's overtime? I thought it was morning scone. Overtime's
- 6:26Speaker 3: after morning scone?
- 6:28Speaker 4: Well, this one's from 7 to 8.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 6:32Speaker 4: No, it was 8 to 9, probably.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Okay, just a little overtime.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Yeah. All right. Or pregame. I'm just curious. Yesterday I
- 6:39Speaker 4: put the link to this show and it got deleted
- 6:41Speaker 4: real quick. I don't know.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I thought maybe I'd do it again. See if it
- 6:44Speaker 3: was just an accident.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Oh, Joey in the chat said, define football weather. Well,
- 6:50Speaker 4: we got into that pretty... Pretty argumentative last year. Oh,
- 6:54Speaker 4: we did. We did.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Look, you played a different place than I did in
- 6:58Speaker 3: your professional career.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Football weather to you is 105 with a billion percent humidity? No,
- 7:07Speaker 4: it's just hot and humid.
- 7:08Speaker 3: It's where we live. It's what we're forged in. It's
- 7:10Speaker 3: what we're calloused in. It's what I remember the suck being,
- 7:13Speaker 3: having to figure out how to be good at football
- 7:16Speaker 3: in those conditions. Just what you know.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Okay. Hell yeah, brother.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Look, not everybody likes to wear a mock turtleneck, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 3: when they're playing football, okay?
- 7:28Speaker 4: That's what you remember the suck being in. But I
- 7:30Speaker 4: remember just, you know, wanting to have fun playing football.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 4: We got a different view, I guess. Yeah. It's all right.
- 7:37Speaker 4: It's all good. Still like you. Eventually, we'll get LSU's roster.
- 7:44Speaker 4: We hadn't got it yet.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Well, you know, there's a little bit of a deadline
- 7:47Speaker 3: on who's going to be added to that roster.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Well, I thought that was all finalized now.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Well, unless you've been living under a rock, so we
- 7:56Speaker 3: all know what's going on yesterday, might as well go
- 7:58Speaker 3: ahead and get into it a bit here. So after
- 8:03Speaker 3: all the back and forth this week, yesterday we finally
- 8:06Speaker 3: got an actual ruling, and for now, for now, LSU
- 8:11Speaker 3: got the result it wanted. The judge granted a preliminary injunction,
- 8:16Speaker 3: which means the SEC cannot enforce its rule against these
- 8:18Speaker 3: players while the legal fight continues, and that's really the
- 8:22Speaker 3: key here. This wasn't some sweeping final decision on the
- 8:25Speaker 3: future of college athletics. It was a ruling on what
- 8:28Speaker 3: happens right now while the bigger case plays out. So
- 8:31Speaker 3: the conversation this morning isn't really, you know, can NFL
- 8:34Speaker 3: players come back to college now? It's did the SEC
- 8:37Speaker 3: draw a line that actually has the legal authority to draw?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Because yesterday, at least on a temporary basis, a judge said, no.
- 8:44Speaker 4: You don't. Yep, sure did.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Did you expect anything different? different to be the outcome there.
- 8:53Speaker 5: The judge from Baton Rouge yeah no of course not
- 8:58Speaker 5: there was a there now there was a lot of
- 8:59Speaker 5: people nationally that actually did think that it was going
- 9:04Speaker 5: to be a different outcome now.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Yeah they did but then after the fact it was
- 9:09Speaker 4: like most of the national media was like obviously this
- 9:12Speaker 4: is happening because it's 10 minutes from Tiger Stadium that
- 9:17Speaker 4: it's happening and I'm not saying that's the reason it
- 9:19Speaker 4: happened it just You know, it didn't hurt, certainly. But beforehand,
- 9:24Speaker 4: you were right. They thought, there was a lot of
- 9:26Speaker 4: people that thought it would go the other way. Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 4: But then afterwards, it was like the complete, like, heel turn.
- 9:31Speaker 4: They're like, oh, of course it happened. It was in
- 9:33Speaker 4: Baton Rouge. Well, everybody's got to be right. Yeah, obviously.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Just like us on this show.
- 9:38Speaker 3: No, that is definitely not us. And we definitely actually
- 9:41Speaker 3: admit when we were wrong, we raised our hand and
- 9:44Speaker 3: held ourselves accountable for that.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yeah. I think we did that, like, what, back in
- 9:48Speaker 4: January we were wrong once? No, yesterday. We said something
- 9:53Speaker 4: yesterday that was definitely wrong.
- 9:56Speaker 3: So, and now here we are. Okay, what happened?
- 10:00Speaker 4: Matt, what about you? Did it play out any different
- 10:02Speaker 4: than you thought?
- 10:04Speaker 2: No.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I didn't mean.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Got the federal... Again, this... You got the zoo and
- 10:09Speaker 4: LSU federally, and you win the local case.
- 10:12Speaker 3: This does not have, like for me, like looking at
- 10:15Speaker 3: big picture.
- 10:17Speaker 3: When's the last time that the NCAA or any of
- 10:21Speaker 3: its conferences has won a court case against a student athlete?
- 10:27Speaker 4: We can't remember, really. I don't know that guy.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I take it back. That's true.
- 10:35Speaker 4: A plane ticket. $ 300 plane ticket they paid back.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Well, Trinidad Chambliss lost like four times, but he just
- 10:41Speaker 3: kept appealing, and then boom, here he is.
- 10:43Speaker 4: He got him.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Because even like Brendan Soares would be like, man, he
- 10:46Speaker 3: didn't lose in court. the big 12 just kind of
- 10:49Speaker 3: bullied Texas tech into not having him play. So like,
- 10:53Speaker 3: even that wasn't like a loss. He, they just decided
- 10:55Speaker 3: the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. So for like, for
- 10:59Speaker 3: those reasons, who's to say like they're, they're ever going
- 11:03Speaker 3: to win anything again, because you're just going to keep
- 11:04Speaker 3: going to, to different courtrooms. And just like in Ole
- 11:08Speaker 3: Miss and Mississippi's situation with Trinidad Chandler, you know, happens
- 11:13Speaker 3: everywhere across the country.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Yeah. Judge. is going to have a tie to that school. Yep.
- 11:20Speaker 4: And that's the, okay, there's a lot of positive that
- 11:25Speaker 4: I think a lot of LSU fans are taking away
- 11:28Speaker 4: from the ruling yesterday. It's we won, right? It doesn't
- 11:31Speaker 4: matter what it is. As long as LSU wins, we're happy, right? Now,
- 11:37Speaker 4: did the ruling yesterday make LSU instantly become more of
- 11:43Speaker 4: a national championship contender? No, I don't think so. I
- 11:47Speaker 4: don't know, I guess this fight's about a principle situation,
- 11:52Speaker 4: but like what principle are, you know, I guess we,
- 11:57Speaker 4: the more cases that are won and the less power
- 12:01Speaker 4: that the quote unquote power to be.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Has, the.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Line is drawn, the line is more blurrier than ever
- 12:11Speaker 4: always about where the finish is on this thing. Um,
- 12:14Speaker 4: every time, and you might go into this one case
- 12:17Speaker 4: thinking this is the one thing that I'm going to
- 12:19Speaker 4: fight about this one, 2022 class. Um, this is a
- 12:23Speaker 4: one-time deal. This will never happen again. After this, we're
- 12:26Speaker 4: never going to think about NFL players again at all. Um,
- 12:31Speaker 4: but then next year comes around and you're like, Hmm,
- 12:34Speaker 4: my wide receiver room's a little thin. So, and I'm
- 12:37Speaker 4: not talking about this at LSU, but like, this would
- 12:39Speaker 4: be other people or, or This could be other colleges
- 12:42Speaker 4: and other situations that have like a one-off situation and
- 12:45Speaker 4: they decide to, hey, how far does this get pushed
- 12:48Speaker 4: down the road? How far do these rules get stretched
- 12:51Speaker 4: and pushed? Like where is the breaking point to where
- 12:55Speaker 4: we just say, and we've been talking about it a
- 12:59Speaker 4: long time, they just say, all right, NCAA, we're good.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Peace out. Deuces. Like we're going to go start our
- 13:04Speaker 4: own thing. When does that start to become a more
- 13:08Speaker 4: real conversation? And maybe it already is a real conversation.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Just everything like this that happens makes it more and
- 13:14Speaker 4: more real or gets more and more people behind it.
- 13:17Speaker 4: I don't know. I just don't know. Like, LSU won
- 13:21Speaker 4: the battle yesterday. It'll still, we'll still have to figure
- 13:25Speaker 4: out who wins the war. Now, part of this.
- 13:33Speaker 3: And this is for LSU specifically. The important part is
- 13:35Speaker 3: LSU is protected by the injunction because of the named
- 13:38Speaker 3: defendants in the case, including the SEC. So the conference
- 13:42Speaker 3: cannot simply turn around and punish LSU for rostering these
- 13:46Speaker 3: players while this order is in effect. That's significant when
- 13:50Speaker 3: for the players and for LSU in the short term.
- 13:53Speaker 3: But again, this is a preliminary injunction. It's not the
- 13:56Speaker 3: final word on whether former players, professional players can participate
- 14:00Speaker 3: Permanently returned to college athletics. So yesterday answered the immediate question,
- 14:04Speaker 3: can these guys be rostered right now, which is yes.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I guess the bigger question is whether the SEC and
- 14:08Speaker 3: the NCAA ultimately have the authority to stop this. And
- 14:12Speaker 3: that is still very much in the air.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know how federal courts and state
- 14:19Speaker 4: courts operate. Yeah, because you joined the show to talk
- 14:22Speaker 4: about football. Yeah, not like their legality. You know, there's
- 14:27Speaker 4: a lot of opinions out there in all this. I
- 14:29Speaker 4: think the you know, I was, I'm going to give
- 14:33Speaker 4: a lot of credit to Scott Van Pelt last night.
- 14:36Speaker 4: I heard this. I was like, oh, that's a really
- 14:37Speaker 4: good quote. And he quoted the great Jeff Goldblum from
- 14:40Speaker 4: Jurassic Park when he said, yeah, but your scientists were
- 14:44Speaker 4: so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't
- 14:47Speaker 4: stop to think about if they should. And I think
- 14:53Speaker 4: lane and a staff they wanted these players because it
- 14:55Speaker 4: fit a need for them and improve their team even
- 14:58Speaker 4: if it's slightly everybody's looking for that slight that little
- 15:01Speaker 4: edge that could get them over.
- 15:02Speaker 3: The hump they don't call it i mean i'm not
- 15:05Speaker 3: trying to be funny they don't call it a game
- 15:06Speaker 3: of inches for nothing well.
- 15:07Speaker 4: For sure and yeah i think getting an interior defensive
- 15:10Speaker 4: lineman and a second or third tied in that has
- 15:13Speaker 4: experience i think that does improve your team how much
- 15:16Speaker 4: i don't know um And there is something that they
- 15:20Speaker 4: thought that can be exploited within the rules and within
- 15:23Speaker 4: the governing body of college football. And the job here
- 15:28Speaker 4: is to win. And I get that. And I hope
- 15:30Speaker 4: that LSU wins every game by 50. But what kind
- 15:35Speaker 4: of impact this has for the future, I don't know.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Nobody knows. I don't think it can be positive, though.
- 15:43Speaker 4: But it's positive for right now, so go Tigers.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Boop.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I do, like, one of the things that I do
- 15:50Speaker 3: find funny, and this is on both sides, is everyone
- 15:54Speaker 3: now trying to define, like, what a pro player is
- 15:59Speaker 3: and which camp they went to and what contract they
- 16:02Speaker 3: did or did not sign, how much they got in
- 16:05Speaker 3: a signing bonus.
- 16:06Speaker 4: That's so dumb.
- 16:06Speaker 3: And a lot of people, like, you know, Texas has
- 16:08Speaker 3: a player that went to two different minicamps, but then
- 16:11Speaker 3: Steve Sarkeesian is up on there on the podium on
- 16:14Speaker 3: the high horse trying to make, you know, pretty much
- 16:19Speaker 3: calling it despicable.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Yeah i'm reading all these people trying to define all
- 16:23Speaker 4: this stuff and i feel like i'm sitting there taking
- 16:26Speaker 4: crazy pills like are we serious right now it's ridiculous
- 16:31Speaker 4: argument and i hate it and then you know they
- 16:36Speaker 4: who's the what's the guy in alabama betty aka yeah
- 16:39Speaker 4: the basketball player yeah people are like talking about that
- 16:41Speaker 4: and well if they didn't do it that why would
- 16:43Speaker 4: they do it now well because it's basketball no one
- 16:46Speaker 4: cares Like, don't mess with football. Like, that was the
- 16:50Speaker 4: one thing. I think that's why people get up in
- 16:51Speaker 4: arms about it, because it's football. Like, you can do
- 16:53Speaker 4: it in any other sport, get away with it for
- 16:56Speaker 4: a little bit, but they don't like you messing with football. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 4: that is a problem that I have.
- 17:01Speaker 3: There's no uniformity to anything, to anything, to any school,
- 17:05Speaker 3: to any conference, to any, like, everything's different. Nothing plays
- 17:10Speaker 3: out the same. There's a governing body that doesn't govern.
- 17:15Speaker 3: That bothers me too. There's people that make a lot
- 17:17Speaker 3: of money at the NCAA office that they don't do anything.
- 17:22Speaker 4: But in fairness, I feel like they're trying to govern. No, no, no.
- 17:27Speaker 3: They're trying now. They're reacting to what they didn't do
- 17:31Speaker 3: for decades. That's the problem. Now they're trying to react.
- 17:35Speaker 3: They're trying to do everything all at once. It's like, hey,
- 17:37Speaker 3: imagine if you just little by little got to a
- 17:41Speaker 3: point where players were compensated and whatever. But you were
- 17:45Speaker 3: so against everything and the movement of going in a
- 17:49Speaker 3: direction where name, image, and likeness and all those things,
- 17:52Speaker 3: whatever it might be. You were so against all of
- 17:55Speaker 3: that in progressing the game that it all hit you
- 17:59Speaker 3: in the face at once. And then you got knocked out.
- 18:02Speaker 3: And now you're trying to get back off the mat.
- 18:04Speaker 3: It's already too late. Your legs are done. That's the problem.
- 18:08Speaker 3: For so long, they just sat there and they made
- 18:10Speaker 3: millions and millions and millions of dollars.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 3: And then now they're trying to, like, police everything when
- 18:17Speaker 3: they haven't patrolled in a long time.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And some things cannot be undone even though
- 18:25Speaker 4: you try to. And I feel like they are trying
- 18:28Speaker 4: to just, you know, getting their legs cut out from
- 18:30Speaker 4: under them. In the courts, the local courts.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You know when you're in, like, a relationship and in
- 18:37Speaker 3: the moment— you don't do the things that you have
- 18:40Speaker 3: to do yeah to stay in the relationship yep and
- 18:44Speaker 3: then like once you realize the relationship is at a
- 18:47Speaker 3: point of no return and then you try to change
- 18:49Speaker 3: yourself and then you try to do the things that
- 18:51Speaker 3: she asked you to do for years and then she
- 18:54Speaker 3: tells you sorry i wanted you to be this person
- 18:57Speaker 3: the entire time and now it's too late yeah that's
- 18:59Speaker 3: where we're at.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Yeah i think bruno mars had a song like that
- 19:02Speaker 4: should have bought you flowers Is that what that's about? Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 4: it sure is.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I'm not very good at, like, lyrics.
- 19:07Speaker 4: You should have held your hand. Yes.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Okay, there you go.
- 19:09Speaker 4: That's what you should have done. I should have bought
- 19:11Speaker 4: you flowers. But you didn't. Yeah, NCAA, you should have
- 19:13Speaker 4: bought us flowers.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yep.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Or paid us when we were playing. Yeah. A little bit.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Just a little bit more. Just a little bit.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Just a little bit more.
- 19:19Speaker 4: More than that $ 450 per month to pay my rent.
- 19:22Speaker 3: When rent was $ 900 because after Katrina, everybody moved from
- 19:25Speaker 3: New Orleans to Baton Rouge.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Yeah. Rent got high. Any who's we'll continue on with
- 19:30Speaker 4: the football Friday.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I promise today we are going to get into actual football.
- 19:35Speaker 4: First two hours.
- 19:35Speaker 3: We'll start to break that.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Nope.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Not here.
- 19:38Speaker 4: That's on the overtime show in a half hours.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Nope. Just we'll dabble here and there and we'll find
- 19:44Speaker 3: our way back to it. But we'll also find our
- 19:46Speaker 3: way to actual football. It's going to be taking place
- 19:48Speaker 3: in Tiger Stadium coming up here in.
- 19:53Speaker 4: A day. One day. Tomorrow. I was going to say
- 19:58Speaker 4: like 31. Just tomorrow. 32 hours. Don't do math. That's
- 20:00Speaker 4: not you, bud.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I really don't know what official kickoff is. I probably
- 20:04Speaker 3: should because I got to be there to call it.
- 20:05Speaker 3: But we'll find that out too.
- 20:06Speaker 4: All right.
- 20:06Speaker 3: More OTB when we come back.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Off the bench.

- 20:56Speaker 4: a hospital, maybe it's university. It doesn't matter. They got
- 20:58Speaker 4: the paper trail. They got the technology. They got the people.
- 21:01Speaker 4: They got the staff to keep that paper trail, to

- 21:29Speaker 3: A thousand laughs have made me colder, and I don't
- 21:34Speaker 3: think I can look.
- 21:36Speaker 1: At this the same. 2007 champs, purple and gold to
- 21:40Speaker 1: the core. This is Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn,
- 21:44Speaker 1: Baton Rouge's go-to for all things Louisiana sports.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Thank you, Alondra. Not only for.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Playing that certified banger, but for letting it.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Breathe as well.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely.
- 22:16Speaker 3: And there's a lot of kids here without you three
- 22:18Speaker 3: doors down. There's a lot of there's a lot of
- 22:21Speaker 3: children in the car, maybe on the way to school.
- 22:23Speaker 3: They're like, hey, mom and dad, what is this sound
- 22:26Speaker 3: of an angel I hear coming out of my speakers?
- 22:28Speaker 4: That was just three doors down. I've never heard sounds
- 22:30Speaker 4: like this before. Yeah, beautiful. We just hopefully we're introducing
- 22:34Speaker 4: a new generation.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah, children, we used to have a bunch of songs
- 22:37Speaker 3: that sounded like that, and they were burnt on the
- 22:41Speaker 3: same CD. A CD was something that was like a circle, right?
- 22:44Speaker 3: And you put it inside of your radio, and it
- 22:46Speaker 3: played the 17 tracks that you burnt on to said CD.
- 22:50Speaker 3: And so when we bring the burnt CD tour to
- 22:53Speaker 3: Alec Bach Stadium here coming up sometime soon, you'll be
- 22:57Speaker 3: able to hear bands like Three Doors Down, like The Calling.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Headlined by Goo Goo Dolls. Matchbox 20 is going to
- 23:05Speaker 3: make an appearance. And we'll have all that information for you.
- 23:08Speaker 4: And when he says that there was a lot of
- 23:10Speaker 4: songs that sounded like that, he means it. They're eerily
- 23:13Speaker 4: similar to that. I need you to chill out.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Of all the things that you've said that I disagree
- 23:21Speaker 3: with on this show, if you disrespect Three Doors Down
- 23:24Speaker 3: and all of these incredible bands.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I might leave you by yourself on the show. At
- 23:29Speaker 4: what point did I disrespect them? You said they sound alike.
- 23:31Speaker 4: They do sound alike. No. And it sounds awesome. No.
- 23:35Speaker 3: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They got their
- 23:39Speaker 3: own sound.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Very unique. Thank you. I get it. You know?
- 23:44Speaker 3: Tender.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Very assembled. No. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Hinder is not in the category. Look, they got two bangers. Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 4: lips of an angel, brother.
- 23:53Speaker 3: But they're not in the category of the bands we
- 23:54Speaker 3: just talked about. Hinder didn't make the card. Cold by Crossfade?
- 23:57Speaker 3: Are you kidding me? Hinder did not make the card for.
- 24:01Speaker 4: The— Not even an opening act? Nope. Play while people
- 24:04Speaker 4: are getting there? Getting to their seats? No, no. The
- 24:07Speaker 4: Callings already got the opening act.
- 24:08Speaker 3: They've already nailed it down.
- 24:09Speaker 4: That's what I said. I don't know.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Anyways, we're going to have ESPN's Pete Thamel join us
- 24:18Speaker 3: at like 7.35 or so. So it's going to be
- 24:20Speaker 3: a little bit of a quicker segment. And obviously, Pete,
- 24:24Speaker 3: he's on college game day, but he's been down here.
- 24:26Speaker 3: He was outside the courtroom last night working late into
- 24:29Speaker 3: the night.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Working overtime.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I knew Pete was coming on the show, but when
- 24:32Speaker 3: I saw him on ESPN like at 11.30, I'm like, oh, boy.
- 24:37Speaker 3: How's that going to go? So we're going to have
- 24:38Speaker 3: him on to kind of give us all the latest
- 24:40Speaker 3: when it comes to what's happening tonight. It was college sports, athletics, football, basketball,
- 24:47Speaker 3: all the sports and all the things and all the
- 24:49Speaker 3: court cases.
- 24:49Speaker 4: For real, though, I felt like courtrooms shut down about 5.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I thought so, too.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Apparently, they work into the evening. Yeah, so I was
- 24:56Speaker 4: sitting there. I don't know if it's like a special
- 24:57Speaker 4: situation because, you know, there's a game tomorrow or not.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I was sitting there with my father-in-law, and we were
- 25:03Speaker 3: watching the Georgia Tech-Colorado game, and he's like, Hey, Jake,
- 25:07Speaker 3: anything on that court case?
- 25:09Speaker 4: And I looked at my watch.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I was like, No, no, sir. late and he's like
- 25:12Speaker 3: well does that mean they're pushing I go I don't
- 25:14Speaker 3: think they can.
- 25:15Speaker 4: And so then I get on social media and it
- 25:17Speaker 4: was like at that time.
- 25:18Speaker 3: It just broke and in 30 minutes the judge is
- 25:20Speaker 3: going to make an announcement.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Yeah I mean I guess we don't know a whole
- 25:25Speaker 4: lot about how the legal system works but yeah I
- 25:27Speaker 4: felt like that you know once it hits about 4
- 25:29Speaker 4: or 5 in the afternoon they hit a little recess
- 25:32Speaker 4: button and they push it to the next day but
- 25:35Speaker 4: I guess not that was my one takeaway last night
- 25:40Speaker 4: I was like wow they worked late I thought everybody
- 25:43Speaker 4: went home at 5. Nope.
- 25:46Speaker 3: And not in this case, no pun intended.
- 25:49Speaker 4: So Pete Dan was going to join us.
- 25:51Speaker 3: As I said, we'll take a break here coming up,
- 25:53Speaker 3: and then he'll join us at like 735-ish, somewhere around then,
- 25:57Speaker 3: and try to get all the latest that's going on
- 25:59Speaker 3: right now because there is a federal case. There's the
- 26:02Speaker 3: case that was here. And, you know, if you don't
- 26:05Speaker 3: roster these players, you're going to be held in contempt
- 26:08Speaker 3: of court.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Yeah. They have to start. They have to catch at
- 26:14Speaker 4: least five passes tomorrow or you're contempt.
- 26:20Speaker 3: So if Daquan Wright gets added to the roster, which
- 26:24Speaker 3: we all believe he will be, he thinks he's going
- 26:26Speaker 3: to play against Clemson, by the way. I thought he
- 26:28Speaker 3: had to.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I mean, yes.
- 26:30Speaker 3: I'm just saying, I don't want to speak in absolutes here,
- 26:32Speaker 3: but yes. He thinks he can play against Clemson. Because
- 26:37Speaker 3: it is the same offense that he played in, and
- 26:39Speaker 3: he knows the terminology, he knows the verbiage, and he's
- 26:41Speaker 3: been in shape because he's been in camp with the Browns.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Like for Harris, he said he would need a couple
- 26:46Speaker 3: of weeks.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Yep, you heard right. Yeah, put him in. Put him in.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I mean, why wouldn't he? I mean, I would assume
- 27:00Speaker 4: the terminology is the same, but I'm sure there's a
- 27:02Speaker 4: little bit of difference here. You've never run a route
- 27:04Speaker 4: next to the person next to you. I mean, even
- 27:07Speaker 4: in where this is a normal situation where you come
- 27:10Speaker 4: in one week and you play, like even in that case,
- 27:12Speaker 4: like in the NFL, you get traded to a team
- 27:15Speaker 4: or you get cut on a Monday, picked up on
- 27:17Speaker 4: a Tuesday or Wednesday by another team. At least you
- 27:19Speaker 4: have a practice, right? Yeah. At least you have one
- 27:22Speaker 4: or two practices to get timing down. It's just like
- 27:24Speaker 4: if you're, how you run an over route as a
- 27:28Speaker 4: tight end or like if you're running a post corner
- 27:30Speaker 4: with somebody like, You want to at least run it
- 27:32Speaker 4: one time with the guy that's running the post to
- 27:34Speaker 4: see his time and his stride length and your timing
- 27:37Speaker 4: against it. So I have a hard time believing they're
- 27:39Speaker 4: going to play at all. But, of course, if you
- 27:44Speaker 4: have to roster them, then you put them on the roster. Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 4: But I have a hard time believing maybe defense tackle,
- 27:49Speaker 4: you put them in there. I don't know. But, like,
- 27:51Speaker 4: tight end, I have a hard time believing he's going
- 27:53Speaker 4: to play a snap.
- 27:55Speaker 3: This week right yeah even if it's friday even if
- 27:59Speaker 3: he does feel like he's ready to go as far
- 28:01Speaker 3: as being in shape knowing the place to your point
- 28:05Speaker 3: you do want to have that experience knowing what it's
- 28:07Speaker 3: like to run you know two by two route combination
- 28:10Speaker 3: whatever it might be and so and they were sitting in.
- 28:12Speaker 4: The courtroom until all day yesterday into the night like
- 28:15Speaker 4: two days before the game like that there's no way
- 28:18Speaker 4: that they can possibly get their bodies ready yeah I'm.
- 28:22Speaker 3: No I'm with you I mean I think it takes
- 28:24Speaker 3: I think it takes much more to get your body
- 28:25Speaker 3: ready than people realize so much that goes in you
- 28:27Speaker 3: take like three weeks off football activities and you gotta
- 28:30Speaker 3: hit reset almost so and again I don't really feel
- 28:34Speaker 3: like it's you know for this game it's it's for
- 28:37Speaker 3: it's for down the road all right we will step
- 28:41Speaker 3: away here and when we come back we are going
- 28:43Speaker 3: to have ESPN Pete Thamel join us obviously Pete does
- 28:49Speaker 3: A great job for them. He's on college game day
- 28:50Speaker 3: as well. So he's actually in town for the game.
- 28:53Speaker 3: He was in town yesterday for the court case. So
- 28:56Speaker 3: we'll break all those things down with Pete when we
- 28:58Speaker 3: come back here on OTB.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Off the bench.

- 30:37Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU football 24-7. You're listening to Off
- 30:40Speaker 1: the Bench.
- 30:41Speaker 3: To the dark side of the moon.
- 30:42Speaker 4: I feel there's nothing I can do. No, I thought
- 30:45Speaker 4: you were going.
- 30:49Speaker 3: To sing. I thought you were going to keep it going.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 3: No, that was flat.
- 30:54Speaker 4: So flat.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Don't even look good when you sing. $ 2, 500 a month
- 30:57Speaker 3: and this is the crap that you bring to the show?
- 31:01Speaker 3: thank you i appreciate that all right so uh pete
- 31:05Speaker 3: dammel is wrapping up a call as you can imagine
- 31:08Speaker 3: he's probably talking to all the peoples on the phone
- 31:12Speaker 3: so pete's going to call us uh whenever his call
- 31:14Speaker 3: does wrap up that could be at any time hopefully
- 31:16Speaker 3: it's just not like at like you know 755 yeah the.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Old the old heart out should we get it should
- 31:24Speaker 4: we get him to sing.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I don't know. He's up pretty late last night. Not
- 31:32Speaker 3: sure if he's ready to do that.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I was trying to follow as much as I could
- 31:39Speaker 4: yesterday with what was said, what was stated, the testimonies,
- 31:44Speaker 4: and Greg Sankey being there yesterday. It didn't sound like
- 31:50Speaker 4: him being there moved the needle much. I know that,
- 31:53Speaker 4: I guess it's He testified for a long time. All right. Well,
- 31:58Speaker 4: wait a minute. We got a little phone call here.
- 32:00Speaker 3: We do have a little phone call. I'm going to
- 32:01Speaker 3: turn this up. And, Pete, I think you're going to be.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Live on the air with us. Pete Thamel joins us now.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Pete, it is a pleasure to have you on, and
- 32:13Speaker 3: we appreciate your time because we know you've got like
- 32:15Speaker 3: 97 things probably currently going on right now.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I'm actually pulling into our game day office right now,
- 32:23Speaker 2: right near Tiger Stadium.
- 32:24Speaker 6: And it's a good reminder that there.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Is a football game this weekend.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I know. I know.
- 32:31Speaker 6: Which is part of it, which I'm extremely excited for.
- 32:33Speaker 6: But yeah, it is.
- 32:36Speaker 2: It has been a surreal 24 hours in Baton Rouge, guys.
- 32:38Speaker 2: There's just no other way to say it, Jacob.
- 32:41Speaker 6: You know.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I've seen some things 20 plus years covering national college football.
- 32:45Speaker 6: I don't, I never had a day like yesterday.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't, I can't imagine that you have MP.
- 32:50Speaker 4: That's exactly where I was going to start.
- 32:52Speaker 3: I was going to almost like get you to set
- 32:53Speaker 3: the scene of what yesterday looked like, because you have
- 32:56Speaker 3: been doing this for so long on a national scene.
- 32:59Speaker 3: And you're here with college game day to tell a
- 33:02Speaker 3: great story on the broadcast, to preview the game, to
- 33:04Speaker 3: talk about the game, to talk about the matchup and,
- 33:07Speaker 3: all the things that we love about ESPN's college game
- 33:09Speaker 3: day and yesterday you found yourself in front of a
- 33:12Speaker 3: courtroom talking about players that could be eligible could not
- 33:16Speaker 3: be eligible to play that were from the NFL and
- 33:18Speaker 3: you know going to maybe play for LSU and other
- 33:21Speaker 3: places in the SEC like for you yesterday just kind
- 33:24Speaker 3: of walk us through what yesterday looked like Yeah.
- 33:28Speaker 2: So, you know, hopefully a lot of your listeners have
- 33:32Speaker 2: not been inside the downtown Baton Rouge.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 33:35Speaker 2: And I mean, you walk by a courtroom and there's
- 33:41Speaker 2: literally a digital sign that says, do not talk.
- 33:43Speaker 3: To the inmates.
- 33:44Speaker 2: So like that, like I walked by that side like
- 33:46Speaker 2: 15 times. So just like, and there's people who, you know,
- 33:49Speaker 2: appeared to commit crimes going through their daily things. And
- 33:51Speaker 2: then at the end, you.
- 33:53Speaker 6: Have 14 student athletes.
- 33:54Speaker 2: That was a powerful visual in that courtroom yesterday, right?
- 33:58Speaker 6: 14 student athletes.
- 33:59Speaker 2: And you have SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on the stand
- 34:02Speaker 2: for three plus hours. There's so many different facets of
- 34:08Speaker 2: it that were amazing. And while he's on the stand,
- 34:12Speaker 2: it's revealed in the courtroom, it's like a Netflix series
- 34:15Speaker 2: plot twist, that the SEC has filed federally against LSU,
- 34:20Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin, Merge Osbury, that athletic director, and the Board
- 34:23Speaker 2: of Supervisors. And that, nobody in the courtroom knows this
- 34:27Speaker 2: until the lawyer brings it up in the questioning.
- 34:29Speaker 6: Right, thank you.
- 34:29Speaker 2: We can't have electronics there. So it was just a
- 34:32Speaker 2: lightning bolt. that rips through the courtroom. Everyone's like, wait
- 34:36Speaker 2: a minute, what? And people are running outside on their
- 34:38Speaker 2: phones to try to go to Pacer to find the lawsuit.
- 34:41Speaker 2: And the lawsuit was actually filed around midnight.
- 34:44Speaker 6: It just didn't process and pop up in the system.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I think it was 1142, and Sankey picked the standard
- 34:49Speaker 2: around 1145.
- 34:52Speaker 6: I often joke with my colleague Paul.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Feinbaum that the FCC drama feels made up to give
- 34:57Speaker 2: him something to talk about.
- 34:58Speaker 6: And that is a moment that.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Definitely was so surreal, serendipitous, that it felt made up.
- 35:08Speaker 6: So, I mean, just think about this. Greg Sankey.
- 35:13Speaker 2: took the stand for three plus hours he was grilled
- 35:17Speaker 2: by tony clayton a charismatic bombastic local attorney um you
- 35:23Speaker 2: know who at one point said how can you do
- 35:24Speaker 2: this to these children.
- 35:26Speaker 6: And pointed to the you know the 14 uh.
- 35:28Speaker 2: There was about four there were a couple that went
- 35:30Speaker 2: in and out but about 14 some of that games
- 35:32Speaker 2: uh student athletes who all took the stand and told
- 35:35Speaker 2: their uh and told their personal stories uh And this
- 35:39Speaker 2: is– the local audience will understand this better than the
- 35:42Speaker 2: national audience, but there.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Was clearly a.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Petty rivalry between Tony Clayton and Jason Williams. Tony Clayton
- 35:51Speaker 2: is a local district attorney. Williams is from New Orleans.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Yep.
- 35:57Speaker 2: And they were, like, sniping back and forth and talking
- 35:59Speaker 2: trash the whole time.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Wow.
- 36:02Speaker 2: At one point, Tony Clayton said, as my grandma used
- 36:05Speaker 2: to say, it ain't no fun when the rabbit.
- 36:07Speaker 6: Got a gun.
- 36:07Speaker 2: He was on a roll.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Like, we're all, like, gasping in the audience. Like, you
- 36:13Speaker 6: don't want to laugh. It's a, you know, it's a court.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Right.
- 36:16Speaker 2: But you can't help these moments. And Clayton was effective, obviously.
- 36:22Speaker 6: You know, the judge.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Ruled in favor of the athletes, Ryan Dowd and the
- 36:25Speaker 2: other attorneys. found a loophole in the new NCAA handbook,
- 36:30Speaker 2: which essentially didn't specify the time length for the 5-for-5 rule.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And that really stuck with Judge Will Jordan. And it
- 36:39Speaker 2: was Rule 12.6 in the new handbook. And that's emerged
- 36:43Speaker 2: in another one of these lawsuits in the last couple
- 36:45Speaker 2: of days.
- 36:45Speaker 6: And that was a big.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Factor in his ruin.
- 36:53Speaker 6: So, yeah, guys, it's hard to.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Overstate just how entirely bizarre the day was.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Pete, it's fascinating. If this is not made into a
- 37:05Speaker 4: movie within the next 24 months, I would be absolutely shocked. Okay,
- 37:11Speaker 4: so you say the federal case, it was news to
- 37:14Speaker 4: everybody while Sankey was on the stand. Which begs the question,
- 37:18Speaker 4: now that the local courts have ruled, what is next
- 37:21Speaker 4: in this whole saga? Is this something that's going to be,
- 37:25Speaker 4: we might get an answer to from the federal level
- 37:27Speaker 4: within the season? Is this going to drag on? What
- 37:30Speaker 4: could the possible fallout be once this federal court case starts?
- 37:34Speaker 2: So there's an expectation that there'd be an expedited federal ruling.
- 37:37Speaker 2: The timeline on that, I'm not certain of right now.
- 37:42Speaker 2: But in the Big 12's case, the ruling came pretty quick.
- 37:46Speaker 2: It was in a matter of days. But the real
- 37:47Speaker 2: drama today, guys, is does LSU add Daquan Wright and
- 37:52Speaker 2: Davian Harris to the roster? And we don't we don't
- 37:56Speaker 2: know the answer to that. Wade Russ, the president, just
- 37:58Speaker 2: released a statement giving no clarity on whether or not
- 38:01Speaker 2: that's whether or not that's going to that's going to happen.
- 38:06Speaker 2: And here's the double edged sword now. Put them on
- 38:10Speaker 2: the roster. And you risk all those SEC punishments. I'm
- 38:14Speaker 2: sure you guys have had a lot of fodder here lately, too.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Forget Feinbaum, right? You know, the punishments, I'm sure your
- 38:19Speaker 2: listeners are familiar with. Half the season suspension, half the
- 38:22Speaker 2: football budget, voting rights revoked, et cetera, right? Those are real,
- 38:27Speaker 2: you know, those are.
- 38:28Speaker 6: Real stiff punishments.
- 38:29Speaker 2: And Sankey has autonomy to punish further. And remember, you
- 38:33Speaker 2: just dragged this guy to federal court for, I'm sorry,
- 38:36Speaker 2: to state court for three hours.
- 38:38Speaker 6: And his salary is revealed publicly.
- 38:41Speaker 2: He gets basically mocked by Tony Clayton for taking a
- 38:45Speaker 2: private plane.
- 38:45Speaker 3: There, etc.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a– and he ultimately, according to these SEC rules,
- 38:55Speaker 2: has just got half his autonomy.
- 38:57Speaker 6: To punish.
- 38:58Speaker 2: And you also have 15 SEC presidents. The executive committee president,
- 39:03Speaker 2: Donnie Plowman, made very clear in a story on ESPN
- 39:06Speaker 2: the other day that Greg Sankey is in power to
- 39:08Speaker 2: do it. It is 15 to 1 against LSU. And
- 39:12Speaker 2: that's why– and so you have a federal lawsuit. You
- 39:16Speaker 2: have multiple state attorneys generals trying to empower the SEC.
- 39:20Speaker 2: And then obviously you have the 15 other SEC presidents
- 39:24Speaker 2: staunchly against LSU. I mean, and the trick, though, is.
- 39:30Speaker 2: if they're not on the roster now, the lawyers representing
- 39:33Speaker 2: these players have talked about maybe taking legal action against
- 39:35Speaker 2: LSU for leaving them hanging.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:37Speaker 6: So it is a just... Yeah, it's something out of
- 39:42Speaker 6: a John Grisham novel.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Like, you keep the scenario, and there's also, what drives
- 39:48Speaker 2: a great, like, talk radio story, as you guys know,
- 39:50Speaker 2: is ambiguity, right? Like, we don't know with legal certainty
- 39:54Speaker 2: that Lane Kiffin is protected from suspension.
- 39:57Speaker 6: Like, we just don't, like, if the.
- 39:59Speaker 2: we start today, the court order seemingly has everybody protected,
- 40:03Speaker 2: but we start today and then there's this federal, there's
- 40:05Speaker 2: this federal ruling. Like we don't know if SEC can
- 40:08Speaker 2: come back after a federal win and say, you did
- 40:10Speaker 2: what you weren't supposed to do.
- 40:11Speaker 6: We could punish you. Or is he protected? Like nobody
- 40:13Speaker 6: could give you a concrete legal opinion on that.
- 40:16Speaker 2: I'm sure they can get like, no one can say
- 40:18Speaker 2: with a thousand percent certainty, whether they're right or wrong.
- 40:21Speaker 2: And that's just, that's, that's the ambiguity hanging in the
- 40:24Speaker 2: air right now. Um, you know, as we are, uh, what, uh,
- 40:28Speaker 2: 30 hours plus from kickoff, something like that, 32 hours.
- 40:33Speaker 6: 36 hours.
- 40:34Speaker 3: From kickoff of an actual football game, which is just
- 40:37Speaker 3: another wild piece of this story. Catching up with ESPN's
- 40:40Speaker 3: Pete Damel here on OTB. Pete, you mentioned the other
- 40:43Speaker 3: teams in the SEC. We know that LSU right now
- 40:47Speaker 3: is kind of the one out in front of everything
- 40:49Speaker 3: and adding players. But do you expect other teams to
- 40:52Speaker 3: actually say, well, since this is happening already, we're actually
- 40:56Speaker 3: going to add some players, even though they've been, you know,
- 40:58Speaker 3: air quotes, against LSU and with the SEC throughout this
- 41:01Speaker 3: entire process?
- 41:04Speaker 2: I don't think– the way the rest of the league
- 41:07Speaker 2: is gawking at LSU and lining up against them, I
- 41:10Speaker 2: don't really see anybody adding with it.
- 41:12Speaker 6: What Donnie Plowman came up and said.
- 41:13Speaker 2: The other day is players who signed NFL contracts, you
- 41:16Speaker 2: can't unsign.
- 41:18Speaker 6: So she said they are staunchly.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Opposed to this narrow, narrow thing, which obviously Daquan Wright
- 41:23Speaker 2: and Zabin Harris fit in because they signed NFL contracts. So, look,
- 41:28Speaker 2: other people are operating in the gray of some of
- 41:31Speaker 2: this 505 injunction stuff. This is the stand that's been taken.
- 41:35Speaker 2: You could argue whether it's fair or not. That could
- 41:37Speaker 2: fill hours of radio, right? And I'm not here to
- 41:41Speaker 2: judge that, but what's clear to me is The other
- 41:47Speaker 2: 15 SEC schools are united. They're not going to make
- 41:50Speaker 2: their presidents look like hypocrites here. They have singled out
- 41:54Speaker 2: LSU as an outlier, and that's.
- 41:57Speaker 6: The world LSU is operating in right now.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Well, Pete, enjoy the game tomorrow. Have fun. Have fun
- 42:03Speaker 4: on campus.
- 42:04Speaker 3: I know LSU is one of the best places, one
- 42:08Speaker 3: of y'all's favorite places to come to to have college
- 42:10Speaker 3: game day. So hopefully at some point tomorrow, hopefully just
- 42:12Speaker 3: for a little bit even, You get to actually feel
- 42:15Speaker 3: like you're experiencing like an LSU game day with a
- 42:17Speaker 3: big game because we do have that, like you said,
- 42:19Speaker 3: as you're pulling up to the stadium. So hopefully you
- 42:21Speaker 3: get to enjoy that just for a little bit.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I hope we have a great crowd for
- 42:26Speaker 2: college game day. I hope everybody can come down and
- 42:28Speaker 2: see us right here on campus. We will celebrate the
- 42:31Speaker 2: game of football. It's not going to be a.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Three-hour legal show.
- 42:35Speaker 2: But there's going to be a little bit of legal
- 42:37Speaker 2: analysis of where we are in the world.
- 42:40Speaker 3: As you have to. Pete, you're the man. We appreciate
- 42:42Speaker 3: you joining us. We'll catch up with you again soon.
- 42:45Speaker 6: Hey, thanks, Jacob and Matt. Appreciate you guys, man.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Absolutely. There he is, ESPN's Pete Thamel. Good enough to
- 42:49Speaker 3: join us. And again, I got to say, all the calls.
- 42:53Speaker 3: I'm like blown away with just like some of the story.
- 42:56Speaker 3: And there's going to be so many stories that come
- 42:57Speaker 3: out from the courtroom yesterday. It sounds like it's from
- 43:00Speaker 3: like a 90s movie.
- 43:02Speaker 4: It really does. It does.
- 43:03Speaker 3: It feels like a Grisham novel like you both said there.
- 43:07Speaker 4: All right, we'll take a break.
- 43:08Speaker 3: More OTB when we come back here live from Rouse's
- 43:10Speaker 3: on a football Friday.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Off the bench.
- 43:14Speaker 3: All right, go to TrashRangers.com, TrashRangers.com, residential commercial trash pickup service. Remember,
- 43:20Speaker 3: they've also got three different sizes of roll-off dumpsters to
- 43:23Speaker 3: choose from. So you give them a call, hey, here's
- 43:25Speaker 3: what I've got going on on our project, at our home,
- 43:28Speaker 3: at our business, and then make sure you have the
- 43:29Speaker 3: right size dumpster. But it's okay, like, if you undersell
- 43:33Speaker 3: what you have, that's okay as well, because they'll empty
- 43:36Speaker 3: your dumpster, and then they'll bring it right back to you.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I believe, actually, the Flynn's had to go Do something
- 43:40Speaker 3: like that. When you fill it up, they'll empty it
- 43:42Speaker 3: and bring it right back to you. Go to TrashRangers.com.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Got a fresh 30-yarder sitting at the Flint household right now.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Not a huge deal. TrashRangers.com. TrashRangers.com.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Louisiana's most reliable trash removal service and sanitation bar. We
- 43:53Speaker 4: also have a Trash Rangers portable toilet at the house.
- 43:57Speaker 4: So we got that project to happen. If you've got
- 43:59Speaker 4: a project, if you've got a construction company, something happened outside,
- 44:01Speaker 4: maybe an event outside, make sure you're calling Trash Rangers. TrashRangers.com.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Off the Bench, presented by Hood Dental.
- 44:12Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Short segment here. We've been better. We have.
- 44:19Speaker 3: We've been better, but obviously, you know, we're going to
- 44:22Speaker 3: have Pete Thamel on, and Pete was here covering the
- 44:25Speaker 3: case yesterday, and so we pushed it a little bit
- 44:27Speaker 3: for him, and we appreciate his time. Three and a
- 44:31Speaker 3: half hours, Commissioner Greg Sankey up there on the stand.
- 44:35Speaker 4: I was just thinking about that, too. I had not
- 44:36Speaker 4: heard the time yet. Yeah, so the way that Pete
- 44:40Speaker 4: said that as well, I guess everyone, or I just
- 44:43Speaker 4: assume that Sankey chose to be here to fight and
- 44:49Speaker 4: to make an appearance. The way Pete kind of put that,
- 44:52Speaker 4: he said he got drug here to a local court
- 44:55Speaker 4: and put on a stand for over three hours. Yeah.
- 44:58Speaker 2: So.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Did I hear a quote, ain't so fun when the
- 45:02Speaker 3: rabbit's got the gun?
- 45:03Speaker 4: It ain't so fun when the rabbit's got the gun.
- 45:04Speaker 3: That's a quote that I heard.
- 45:05Speaker 4: I mean, my God, that has got to be a
- 45:08Speaker 4: made-for-TV movie. Let's go to theaters. Straight to video.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Streaming.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Straight to DVD. Nah, they don't make those anymore. I
- 45:18Speaker 4: feel like they do. Don't they?
- 45:20Speaker 3: Nah, they make DVDs.
- 45:21Speaker 4: We're going to figure this out. Man.
- 45:25Speaker 3: All right.
- 45:25Speaker 4: We'll get to the bottom of this DVD situation for
- 45:27Speaker 4: you all.
- 45:27Speaker 3: All right, so we will step away, and I do
- 45:31Speaker 3: know there's a lot of layers to this, but also
- 45:33Speaker 3: there is a football game that is taking place, and
- 45:35Speaker 3: by God, do I want the Tigers to go out there,
- 45:37Speaker 3: the real Tigers, and take care of the fake Tigers.
- 45:40Speaker 3: So we'll start breaking that down as well. When we
- 45:42Speaker 3: come back, stay locked in here to OTB. Off the bench.
- 45:47Speaker 4: All right, go to ktozblinds.com, ktozblinds.com.
- 45:50Speaker 3: KTOZ and Tears Now, they've been in the game since 2004.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Have Brandon Barton and the team come out to your space,

- 45:56Speaker 3: a matter of minutes. It's inside, it's outside, it's outside,
- 45:58Speaker 3: it's inside, and sometimes it's a little bit of both
- 46:01Speaker 3: like they've done for me. So, again, have Brandon Barton
- 46:04Speaker 3: come look at your space. They're going to know exactly
- 46:06Speaker 3: what you need before you know what you need. That's
- 46:08Speaker 3: just how long they've been in it. That's just who
