- 0:30Welcome to watch your Least favorite Scary Movie, The
- 0:31podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly, and the
- 0:34absurd, and all of our favorite. And least favorite.
- 0:36Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:38movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:40Even if we don't always get. It my name is Travis.
- 0:42My name is messy and I'm leaving that entire dumpster fire in for
- 0:46everyone. The people need to know, yeah.
- 0:48Yeah, everybody needs to know that you shimmied a little bit
- 0:50when you're in the opening. Yeah, I can't help it.
- 0:52You know why? Why?
- 0:53Cuz I'm so excited to talk about Spiral.
- 0:56I get some SAW action and I get Sam Jackson.
- 1:00I know this is probably the only time it's going to happen in
- 1:03this podcast. It's it's amazing.
- 1:05I think we have to take a moment to appreciate that and we have
- 1:08both Chris Rock and Sam Jackson in a movie, a horror movie, on
- 1:12this. Live in a world where it is on
- 1:16celluloid, Samuel L Jackson saying, oh, you want to play a
- 1:19game, motherfucker. It's amazing.
- 1:21It's We deserve this. The Saw series deserved this.
- 1:25Yeah, yeah, they earned it. OK, I don't have any
- 1:28announcement. Oh, I do have an announcement.
- 1:32Looking at the schedules through my through mail this Sunday.
- 1:36To be or not to be? Oh yeah, it is.
- 1:38Isn't and it's actually going to be my pick.
- 1:40And we realized that we done goofed up a a Ron because Travis
- 1:45picked two months in a row. So guess what that means?
- 1:47I'm picking this month and I'm picking our Prom movie.
- 1:50Shit, that is going to be a prom one, isn't it?
- 1:52Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:53So be on the lookout for that on Sunday.
- 1:56Yeah. All right.
- 1:58Poll results. All right, Yeah, poll results.
- 2:00So last week we talked about Predator, and I just wanted to
- 2:04know what was the best line from the movie.
- 2:06Only had four options, obviously, since, you know,
- 2:08that's the limit. So it was get to the Choppa.
- 2:13I ain't got time to bleed. You're one ugly motherfucker.
- 2:17And if it bleeds, we can kill it.
- 2:19OK, so over on Twitter, 27% voted for Get to the Choppa.
- 2:2433%. I ain't got time to bleed 20%.
- 2:28You're one ugly motherfucker. 20% If it bleeds, we can kill
- 2:31it. Over on Instagram. 35% get to
- 2:34the chopper. 47% I ain't got time to bleed 12% You're one
- 2:39ugly motherfucker. And 6%?
- 2:41If it bleeds, we can kill it. I kind of agree with the people
- 2:45here. I ain't got time to bleed.
- 2:46It's one of the most badass. Things ever it's.
- 2:49So fucking good. I you know what, you're in that
- 2:52situation, no, you do not have time to.
- 2:53Bleed. I ain't got time to bleed.
- 2:55Do you not have time? But you do have time to duck.
- 2:57Do you you? Did.
- 2:59I think so. OK, cool.
- 3:01So that was her poll. Yeah.
- 3:02Yeah. All right.
- 3:04So now we're going to talk about Spiral from the Book of Saw.
- 3:08Banana, Banana. This released May 14th, 2021
- 3:13wide release. We watched it on our fork and
- 3:16our Blu-ray, because the fork just gave up, died.
- 3:20It's straight up died. We've had issues with it in the
- 3:22past. I remember and it always it
- 3:26craps out at the scene where he's doing the raid and the drug
- 3:29dealers apart. Yeah, yeah, when he's at the
- 3:31meth dealer. It just straighten.
- 3:32The leg it. Cut it just stopped working.
- 3:35I can't even get it to load the disk anymore, so I popped in the
- 3:38Blu-ray and we finished the rest that way.
- 3:40Yeah, but if you don't have an option for a fork or a Blu-ray,
- 3:44currently it's streaming on Hulu.
- 3:47Hulu. Hulu It's streaming on a Hulu
- 3:51Hulu TV. Yeah, I knew what I knew what
- 3:54was. Happening there Sling TV Premium
- 3:57and YouTube TV Premium, it's. Just sufficient so you're just
- 4:00saving time. Everybody knows.
- 4:01Them all at once. You can also rent it from Prime,
- 4:05Google Play, YouTube or Fandango at home.
- 4:09OK. Written by Heroes in Our House,
- 4:13Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.
- 4:14Yes, directed by Darren Lindbausmann.
- 4:17Music by Charlie Klauser. And there were so many people on
- 4:22the special effects team and the makeup artist.
- 4:25I've got Patrick Baxter, Tracy Louder and there's like too many
- 4:31people involved with the prosthetics.
- 4:33But once again we do have returning as the head for the
- 4:35prosthetics. Francois Desjunay.
- 4:38Yeah, they mentioned we were watching a little bit of the
- 4:42behind the scenes stuff there, but some of the people working
- 4:44on this have been working on it as far back as soft too.
- 4:47Yeah. So it's like a very tight knit.
- 4:49Yeah, little. Project here.
- 4:51And there are just, there are so many prosthetics involved and
- 4:53they had a ton of people that were doing the prosthetics,
- 4:55doing the molding. It just, I wouldn't be able to
- 4:57list out all of the names. Yes.
- 4:59All practical too, Yeah. No.
- 5:00CG for this. Yeah, when the tongue trap,
- 5:03actually. Sorry Cutting This was really
- 5:06cool. They made a tongue mold for him
- 5:08and he was biting down on it with his real mouth.
- 5:10There was a lot of cool things with that scene.
- 5:12Yeah, I want to break that down when.
- 5:14We get to that, OK? Starring Chris Rock as Deke
- 5:17Banks, Samuel L Jackson as Marcus Banks, Max Minghella as
- 5:21William Shank and Marisol Nichols is Angie Garza.
- 5:24Nice. Nice.
- 5:24Nice. All right, Travis, time for our
- 5:27favorite game budget or bug Ted. This is definitely gonna be
- 5:34budget because they got like some names behind at this time,
- 5:37so they were probably able to command a little bit more money
- 5:40than a normal Saw movie I would guess.
- 5:42You are in fact correct. This is a $20 million budget.
- 5:45Nice. That's like double the normal
- 5:47saw budget. Yeah well they they rude the day
- 5:51cause the opening box office was 8.7 million and the worldwide
- 5:54gross was 40.6 million. However, I do need to remind
- 5:58everybody. Big fat asterisk there.
- 6:00It released right when theaters were starting to show movies
- 6:04again and people were still nervous.
- 6:06We were still nervous. This was actually our first
- 6:08movie that we saw in theaters after the lockdowns.
- 6:11Yeah, there's a picture of the two of us, plus my mom wearing
- 6:16masks in the movie theater. Like first movie back.
- 6:18Yeah. It was it was a weird time,
- 6:21yeah. It's kind of weird to think,
- 6:22Would you say? Perhaps that the time was
- 6:25unprecedented. Unprecedented times.
- 6:27You know what? That's great.
- 6:29Let's start putting in all of the marketing regarding this
- 6:32weird event that's happening. Yeah.
- 6:35OK, and it has a 5.2 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 6:39Yeah, that's not too bad. I mean, I mean, it could be a
- 6:42lot better. But you still got to remember
- 6:44this is a horror movie. That's true.
- 6:46All right, I pulled 3 movies again.
- 6:50It's not, it's not my most creative theme.
- 6:52There were a lot of movies in 2021 because there were a lot of
- 6:55movies that got pushed back. Yeah, I just I went with sequels
- 7:00slash reboots. I have a film, Howling Kills is
- 7:04gonna be on here isn't? It I thought about it and then I
- 7:07didn't really 'cause we tend to throw that one out for a lot of
- 7:102021, that's true. So I I went a different route.
- 7:13All right. Well, I'm still intrigued.
- 7:14Let's let's hear it. The first one is Don't breathe
- 7:162. I still have not seen that.
- 7:18One haven't seen it, there's no wallows in it so.
- 7:21Is that really the the walls or we walk?
- 7:26Well, you know, after you see the Turkey baster in the first
- 7:29one, it's hard to have any trust in a movie.
- 7:31I mean, it's not just that. It's just like, I didn't really
- 7:33feel like that one needed a sequel.
- 7:36Yeah. And like, I know that I am a
- 7:39sucker for a lot of movies. I don't need sequels.
- 7:41But that one especially, I just just like.
- 7:42I don't know, like it's kind of like a quiet place to like you
- 7:45didn't find the first time just. Yeah yeah, that released August
- 7:5113th, 2021. I couldn't find a budget on it,
- 7:54but it did have a worldwide gross of 53,000,000.
- 7:57OK And it has a six point O out of 10 on IMDb.
- 8:00So people liked it. OK, you know who didn't like
- 8:05this? Next one I'm gonna talk about.
- 8:07Who? Both of us. 2021 that we didn't
- 8:11like. It's a recall.
- 8:14It's a recall fuck I feel like I got.
- 8:22I feel like I should know this. Wrong turn.
- 8:27That was really 2021. Why do I feel like that was a
- 8:30pre COVID movie? I don't know, that's weird.
- 8:34It released February 26th, 2021. Couldn't find a budget on it.
- 8:38It's got a worldwide gross of 4.8 million and an IMDb score of
- 8:425.6 out of 10. Yeah, that's the bizarre part
- 8:46right there, the 5.6 out of 10. Here's the thing.
- 8:50For a movie to qualify as a wrong term movie, it is not
- 8:57necessarily sufficient, but it is necessary for there to be
- 9:01both hooting and hollering. You need both.
- 9:04And it is not present in this one.
- 9:06Yeah, I don't even think bows and arrows are either.
- 9:09Yeah, I don't. Think.
- 9:10It's it's rude. It's very rude.
- 9:12It's disrespectful, Yeah, And I know it's.
- 9:15Disrespectful to such a look. Proud legacy.
- 9:18I I understand. It's the guy that created the
- 9:21original. But still, like, you can still
- 9:23disrespect your own ship. Yeah, don't do that to yourself,
- 9:26dude. Yeah, listen to the way I talk
- 9:28about myself. Yeah.
- 9:31OK. And the third one, NIA Da
- 9:35Costa's Candyman. OK.
- 9:38And I always feel the need to say NIA Da Costa's a lot of
- 9:40people. Don't you mean Jordan Pills
- 9:42Candyman, He totally made that movie.
- 9:45They they just needed to slap his name on there because
- 9:47everybody's like, oh, Jordan Peele.
- 9:48Yeah. Yeah, I get it.
- 9:50It sucks for her to like. Yeah, but that's why I like, I
- 9:54want her name out there. Yeah, for sure.
- 9:56That was released August 27th, 2021.
- 9:59We also saw this one in theaters.
- 10:00I remember budget of 22 million and a worldwide gross of 77
- 10:05million, a 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 10:08That was a good one. I liked it a lot.
- 10:10I remember liking. It it was.
- 10:12It was really good, yeah. So I and I want to talk about
- 10:15those movies in full at some point on the show.
- 10:17I would like to Awesome, yeah. OK.
- 10:21Are you ready to be a little bummed out?
- 10:23Sure. There's only one tagline.
- 10:25There's only one. Only one.
- 10:28Is it from the book of Saw? No.
- 10:31Is that part of the title? I think it's technically part of
- 10:33the title. I don't.
- 10:34Nobody ever says it. It's not listed that way on
- 10:36IMDb. Yeah, discover a new chapter.
- 10:41That's so way, man. Come on.
- 10:43There's like, there's tons of potential here.
- 10:46You could have done something with Sam Jackson.
- 10:49I agree. I agree.
- 10:51OK, so obviously this movie was originally scheduled to premiere
- 10:55in May 2020, so it was always going to be a Mother's Day
- 10:57movie. Weird, but I suppose if you're
- 11:00trying to take the franchise in a new direction.
- 11:03It's Mother's Day itself. So Chris Rock, the way this came
- 11:10about is that Chris Rock was at a friend's wedding in, I want to
- 11:13say it was Brazil. I didn't write it down.
- 11:15And he met a Lionsgate executive named Michael Burns.
- 11:19They started talking. He thought it would be a good
- 11:21idea to take his career, like maybe in a horror direction.
- 11:23He hadn't done that before, wanted to see what that would be
- 11:26about. And he ended up coming up with
- 11:27an idea because he's a big fan of the soft franchise basically
- 11:30since they started. That's.
- 11:31What I remember hearing that back in the time that this was
- 11:34coming out. Yeah, So he he approached
- 11:36Lionsgate. He was like, you know, I want to
- 11:38do this thing. I want to expand the franchise.
- 11:40I want it to go, you know, make it a bigger universe.
- 11:44And they really liked that idea. They struggled to find writers
- 11:48that would make a make the kind of script that they were going
- 11:51for because they really wanted to make sure that they
- 11:53incorporated humor and wit. They wanted it to be different
- 11:56than the other saws while still being faithful to the roots of
- 11:58it. And well, it just so happens
- 12:02that Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger were working mana
- 12:06scripts that focused primarily on John Kramer not really paying
- 12:11attention to his his mentees. And that is an idea that would
- 12:16go on to eventually become 2023's Socks.
- 12:19So they were working on that before.
- 12:22This. Yeah, they've been working on it
- 12:24for a while, but they ended up being approached to work on
- 12:27this. They come up with about 8
- 12:30different versions of a story for it, and they ended up
- 12:33merging one of those ideas with Chris Rock's ideas.
- 12:37And yeah, and that's how they came up with the script.
- 12:40Let's see, They intentionally didn't bring Tobin Bell back,
- 12:44but there was like a lot of discussion the entire time they
- 12:46were filming. Like literally up until the last
- 12:48day of filming. Seriously.
- 12:50Yeah, cuz they were. This is the only movie in the
- 12:52entire franchise as of now that doesn't feature him in anything
- 12:55other than like photographs. Like, we don't even have his
- 12:57voice, which we almost did because they had him record a
- 13:01cover of a Johnny Cash song. Do not know which one.
- 13:04What? Yeah, And they were going to
- 13:06play that over the closing credits.
- 13:08And then Boseman was like, that's too gimmicky.
- 13:11No fucking way. Yeah, I want that.
- 13:14I love the ending song that we have on this, but like a
- 13:17fucking, like, John Cramer cover of Johnny Cash, Yeah.
- 13:22I want it. I want it.
- 13:23I want the tape. Release the mix tape.
- 13:26Yeah, release it. Go on.
- 13:27No. The way he was talking, like
- 13:29there's a lot of shit that could have went into this movie for an
- 13:32unrated cut. Give us, give us the Johnny Cash
- 13:35cut. That's.
- 13:36What we're gonna do? Give us the cash cut?
- 13:38Yeah, that's Wilder than them wanting to mix his blood into
- 13:43the posters. Look, people, we can do this.
- 13:47They did it with the Snyder cut. We can make this.
- 13:49Happen give us the cash cut. They also had considered doing a
- 13:55post credit scene with him mentoring like a child.
- 13:58William. I forget what his like actual
- 14:01last name is, but Shank. Yeah yeah, they had considered
- 14:06like showing them meeting up and him teaching him like starting
- 14:09to take him under his wing, but they ultimately decided against
- 14:11that too because they really wanted this to be an actual
- 14:13copycat. For that same reason, they
- 14:16didn't use Billy the Puppet. Like that.
- 14:18Which was kind of a thing, too for Tobin Bell.
- 14:20He was like, you know, if Billy's there, I kind of really
- 14:22want to be there. Like oh.
- 14:23Did he? Want to?
- 14:24Be part of it. He He actually, I guess was
- 14:26talking about maybe like an origin with where Billy the
- 14:30puppet came about. Oh, really?
- 14:31Yeah. And they, you know, so they
- 14:35replaced him with Mr. Snuggles and that is that is the pig
- 14:38puppet's official name is Mr. Snuggles.
- 14:41Fun fact, that's also the nickname for all of our pets.
- 14:45Yeah, especially Scout. They also wanted to not use his
- 14:51voice because they felt that it was too iconic and all of the
- 14:54tapes. So they struggled really hard to
- 14:56find a voice to do for those tapes.
- 14:59And it was like up until like 2 days before they were done with
- 15:02the sound mixing that they actually found a voice that they
- 15:05were going to use. Isn't that weird?
- 15:06Like, I feel like I made that exact voice whenever I edited
- 15:09yours on the last episode. Well, and that's The thing, is
- 15:12that they ended up just using computer editing.
- 15:15I did it in like 5 seconds. Yeah, like it was easy.
- 15:19Lynn Bozeman swore that he would never direct another soft film
- 15:22After Software, but Chris Rock was adamant that he had to be
- 15:27the one to direct, and Bozeman actually turned down an
- 15:30opportunity to direct a Broadway show to come back for this.
- 15:33I mean, if Chris Rock is like, hey man, you got to direct this
- 15:36movie for me. Like, what are you going to say?
- 15:38I mean, I would say I have 0 experience, but if you want me
- 15:41to, I will Mr. Rock. Yeah, I mean, what, you're going
- 15:45to get the blame because you're the one that asked me, but like,
- 15:47fuck yeah, I'm going to do it. The.
- 15:50Blame would go on me for sure, so.
- 15:52And then finally, the principal photography did take place in
- 15:55Toronto from July 8th, 2019 to August 28th, 2019.
- 16:01OK. So those are generally my fun.
- 16:04Facts. Very cool.
- 16:06There's this is this is an interesting little one.
- 16:08I'm really happy that they went with the direction of doing the
- 16:11copycat. Yes, I think that that was I.
- 16:14So we just we didn't need another one of his like what do
- 16:20we call them. They're not mentees.
- 16:22There's a different term that a lot of apprentice, apprentice.
- 16:25We didn't need another apprentice story like it was
- 16:28getting a little bit like recycle.
- 16:31It's just it'd be funny if they like, they hyped up like the
- 16:34replacement in the last one and then then in the next one
- 16:37they're like and here's another like.
- 16:39Yeah, it's like we just completely ignored that, which I
- 16:44mean, we did anyway, but it would have been weirder if we
- 16:46went straight into another Apprentice story.
- 16:49OK, well, I guess this is a good segue into our good, bad, ugly
- 16:53and absurd. Starting with the.
- 16:55Good. OK.
- 16:56Well, I I mean, yeah, I like the different feel that this one has
- 17:02to. It's kind of a fresh take on the
- 17:04series, which I appreciate. Like this is what movie?
- 17:07What this is 9? Yeah, this is the 9th and saw
- 17:11ninth, yeah. Like, you know, it's nice to
- 17:13shake it up a little bit. Like I've been saying for like
- 17:15the past few movies we've covered, like let's move on from
- 17:18Tofin a little bit. Like, I know he's iconic, but
- 17:20you can't keep going back in time.
- 17:23You just keep finding ways to flashback with him.
- 17:26And that was one of the things that I was reading too, is that
- 17:28they're like, you know, I keep doing flashbacks with him and
- 17:31maybe, you know, especially if we're trying to make it
- 17:34definitively like not a sequel, not a reboot, like, why don't we
- 17:40just, you know, not? It would be great.
- 17:43And like, The thing is, like all of the stuff that happened in
- 17:46those movies is a very tight timeline, and you're jamming all
- 17:50of this shit that he did in such a short amount of time.
- 17:53Like, it's gonna be excessive once you get to a certain point.
- 17:56But then again, it's a fucking movie.
- 17:58You don't have to really take it that seriously.
- 18:00Oh, but people do, but people do.
- 18:03But no, I really enjoyed the take on this.
- 18:05I liked the copycat aspects. I liked that.
- 18:09We went back to it being like a cop type thing, like the
- 18:12original movie. Yeah, I really.
- 18:14I do think it's funny because we were all like, my mom was here
- 18:17watching it with us, and when they're like jigsaws, never
- 18:21targeted cops before. We all went liar.
- 18:24Like that's like, yeah, there's a whole thing with that.
- 18:29I mean, it's like rig, you know what I mean?
- 18:31But then again, you could say that that was Hoffman.
- 18:33So I don't know. Yeah, I mean, they just they
- 18:36cops have been targets of Jigsaw since the he's never exclusively
- 18:41targeted them. But yeah, no, the cops have
- 18:44always been a target. That's another thing that I like
- 18:46about this. I like that they and they
- 18:49applied it to like a one area, so like a corrupt Police
- 18:54Department, rather than just taking like drug addicts and
- 18:57people like down on their luck doing bad shit to get by like
- 19:01this. I'm like, OK, these are like,
- 19:02objectively, like terrible people.
- 19:04People that have made conscious decisions to be horrible to
- 19:08other people. Yeah, when they're like, they're
- 19:12expected to use that power for what should be good.
- 19:16But here's a bunch of people that are just a bunch of like,
- 19:20terrible people. I I just, I don't know.
- 19:23I like that they like actually, like use it towards because I
- 19:25mean, like, that's cool. You know what I mean?
- 19:28Like that's cool that you get somebody like, I mean, it's like
- 19:32it's fucked up that like they're targeting corrupt police.
- 19:35But it's still an interesting take.
- 19:37But also, I think it's kind of really awesome for this movie
- 19:41that they talked about this in such a popular franchise at a
- 19:46time that this was such such a talking point in general for
- 19:52people. I'm not saying that this is the
- 19:54first time police have ever, you know, targeted citizens, but it
- 19:58you know it, it definitely reached ahead right around 2020.
- 20:01It's like really interesting too, that they filmed it in 2019
- 20:03and then the following year that you had like the whole George
- 20:06Floyd thing, and then that was such a huge thing about police
- 20:10brutality and it just kind of came out at the right time.
- 20:13But I mean, that had been happening for years and I don't
- 20:16want to. Make a.
- 20:18Leap in an assumption. I feel like he probably brought
- 20:21the idea of like him being a detective because I feel like
- 20:25just something about me about seeing him just makes me think
- 20:28he probably is like, yeah, I want to be a cop.
- 20:30Like I want to like play a cop on screen because it's just kind
- 20:33of fun. Like he wanted the shades in the
- 20:35cool car and stuff like that, you know what I mean?
- 20:37Yeah, no. Chris Rock definitely strikes me
- 20:39as a nerd. Yeah.
- 20:40Definitely, yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's like my
- 20:44main good stuff there. I mean, there's a lot of good
- 20:46stuff. Like I like the Traps one this
- 20:47one too. But that's kind of like, yeah,
- 20:50most Saw movies. Yeah, I'm going to say for me
- 20:53that I, you know, besides the stuff I was trimming in with
- 20:56you, I I like that they kept the the soap opera Ness.
- 21:04Yeah, that, you know, came to be expected with the later saw
- 21:08entries. I like that.
- 21:08They didn't shy away from that. They kept it as dramatic.
- 21:12I love the odes to the backwards baseball cap with added giant
- 21:17mustache. I know.
- 21:19I feel like they leaned into it with that.
- 21:21And it's great. There's no way that Chris Rock
- 21:24wasn't like, let's put backwards baseball cap on me.
- 21:26He's a fan. An admitted fan of the series,
- 21:29he probably laughed his ass off when he saw that.
- 21:31Oh my God. I want.
- 21:33I want to do a scene where I get one, too, and Sam Jackson's
- 21:36like, give me a mustache, motherfucker.
- 21:42Yeah. So I I I like that you can tell
- 21:45that this was made with an appreciation for the movies and
- 21:47they definitely tried to make it their own.
- 21:50Also, they it looks very intentional that they were going
- 21:53to try and do it differently. So that way it could be its own
- 21:58thing but also be enough of the DNA of the franchise that it
- 22:03firmly belongs unlike say wrong turn.
- 22:07Yeah. Exactly.
- 22:08I'm also in the same tune as that.
- 22:11I like the new puppet because I like that they made a pig.
- 22:15Yeah, and like, it takes that thing, you know, from from the
- 22:20original John Kramer's whole Zodiac year of the pig thing,
- 22:24and it applies it. To the cops, he's like a pig.
- 22:27Yeah, it's so perfect to do it that way.
- 22:30And the way like they do the, the mirror imaging, you know in
- 22:33that one video they got Mr. Snuggles lift up the gun towards
- 22:36the camera. The way they do that with Marcus
- 22:39at the end, it's it's just it's great.
- 22:40It's little touches like that are great.
- 22:42Yeah, for sure. Why?
- 22:43I'm glad they brought Marcus, Marcus, Darren Lynn Bozeman
- 22:46back. Yeah, definitely.
- 22:47Yeah. OK, We done with the goods.
- 22:51I think so. OK, so on to the Bats.
- 22:53Well, I like Chris Rock, but I don't think that his acting
- 22:57suits this type of movies too well.
- 22:59I appreciate him wanting to branch out and do, like a
- 23:01different type of thing. But, like, he just didn't really
- 23:05like, he's trying to do, like, serious wine delivery.
- 23:08And it's hard to take him seriously because he's, you
- 23:10know, like a comedian And a lot of his delivery of wines.
- 23:14Like, I don't know. It's just kind of hard to take
- 23:17certain things seriously. Like whenever he's talking about
- 23:19like, divorce and shit like that, like, I don't know, he's
- 23:22joking around. Like it's hard to tell when he's
- 23:24joking, when he's being serious and when he is acting serious.
- 23:27It's never exactly like it's not like a compelling performance.
- 23:31Yeah, I don't know if it's his performance or if it's those
- 23:34specific lines of dialogue, or if it's every time he's supposed
- 23:38to be looking serious. They do those like shaky Cam
- 23:40cuts, except they kind of stabilize his face almost in the
- 23:43middle of it it. Keep this clear.
- 23:47Yeah. So I I don't know which one of
- 23:49those, but yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 23:51Yeah, I just he's, I appreciate it.
- 23:53I like when people try and go out of, you know, their
- 23:56typecasts and you know, especially like if you if I was
- 24:00able to like get myself into a Saw movie like he did, I would
- 24:04absolutely do it too. Even if I if I had no and I
- 24:07don't have any business being in the Saw movie, but I would still
- 24:10do it. Yeah.
- 24:12If somebody was like, yeah, do you want to be a producer?
- 24:14I'm like, only if I can also be in it.
- 24:16And they're like, well, OK, you're a producer, I guess you
- 24:21have the right to do that. And the only other thing is, I
- 24:25feel like this series is so good with twists, but this one I
- 24:29called it right when we were watching it in the theatre.
- 24:32You're like. Well, 'cause they don't show his
- 24:35trap. Exactly.
- 24:36Like, they skip over his and it's like, yeah, of course he's
- 24:40going to be responsible and he just mysteriously disappears.
- 24:44That doesn't fucking happen. They show it all the time.
- 24:46Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Twist wasn't really that
- 24:49great. Yeah.
- 24:50And he's not exactly like an ideal, you know, copycat guy, I
- 24:58guess. I don't know.
- 24:59I kind of. I loved his, like, unhinged
- 25:01monologue when he was talking about his like taking down the
- 25:04system. We're applying the spiral, the
- 25:05evolution. We're taking it instead of to a
- 25:07person, we're taking it systemically.
- 25:09Like I I love the way he was going.
- 25:10About I really appreciate that. It's like a radicalized like,
- 25:13yeah, like I'm trying to like, he's trying to do something
- 25:15good, but he's doing it in the worst possible way.
- 25:17Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:18Like, it's kind of cool. Like, I like that.
- 25:20But just. I don't know.
- 25:23I think maybe some tweaks. We could have had like a really
- 25:25interesting character here. But he's just kind of like a yes
- 25:27man. And then he's just kind of like
- 25:30gone, you know, like, yeah, I don't know.
- 25:34Yeah, I don't. I think it would have been
- 25:36better if him and Chris Rock had better chemistry when they were
- 25:41together, but you could tell that they like.
- 25:45We don't get that moment of them really, truly starting to bond.
- 25:50It just goes from them hating each other to.
- 25:53Tolerating. Yeah.
- 25:54Well, it's kind of written in a way where it seems like it's
- 25:57supposed to be like they're actually becoming close and
- 26:01respecting each other. But I don't really feel like I
- 26:03truly get that. Yeah.
- 26:05So I don't know. I feel like it would have been
- 26:06cool to, like, have better chemistry or like, you know,
- 26:10show them getting closer a little bit more or something.
- 26:12You know, like, 'cause it would have made the twist a little bit
- 26:14more impactful. OK, I guess this is kind of an
- 26:18extension of some of what you were saying, but I think that
- 26:21the the flashbacks weren't effective because they were just
- 26:26done in such a way. It felt very like ABC Family,
- 26:30teen drama, mystery. Like we're getting this bit of a
- 26:34flashback and the next time we see most of that, but we add 30
- 26:37seconds to it. Like, yeah, I don't.
- 26:41It's like they. Felt it feels like it's spoon
- 26:43feeding us a little bit too much, which is not what we come
- 26:45to the soft franchise for. Like we yeah, we want those
- 26:48hints and bits and pieces, but it's like very like, ha ha,
- 26:51here's the connection. Exactly, yeah.
- 26:53You want to be able to piece it together and be like, oh, it
- 26:56makes sense. Yeah, just they needed to just
- 26:58pull back a little bit. It just felt like they're like,
- 27:00it's a song movie. We got to have at least like 10
- 27:02flashbacks minimum, right? Yeah.
- 27:04So they're like, let's just keep adding on to the same flashback.
- 27:06Yeah, that's that's. The thing is that the flashbacks
- 27:09weren't always adding any everything to the story.
- 27:13So yeah. OK, OK.
- 27:16I mean, I feel like the ugly is pretty obvious in this movie,
- 27:18you know, the police brutality and corruption and shit like
- 27:21that. Yeah, it's it's very like
- 27:25Article 8. Was it?
- 27:26Yeah. Is that was that a real thing?
- 27:28I don't know. I'm.
- 27:29Going to look that. High.
- 27:30Yeah. I really don't know.
- 27:32Yeah, because I'm. I'm curious because, like, it's
- 27:35like the whole reason why every cop is such a bad person in this
- 27:39area apparently. So you can go ahead and go with
- 27:42ears. I'm going to type this up real
- 27:43quick. Yeah, I I think for me that it,
- 27:47you know, on top of, you know, the whole police brutality thing
- 27:51we've got the the way Banks Zeke, Chris Rock's character,
- 27:57the way he generally talks about marriage and women.
- 28:01And like, I get it. He's bitter.
- 28:03But, like, it feels overly generalized.
- 28:07I do like that they also write in Shank being like, well, maybe
- 28:11maybe you're getting divorced because women don't like being
- 28:13called bitches. Like, I do like that line being
- 28:16thrown in. But it is, it's just a lot.
- 28:18And yeah, again, I feel like there's a better way to
- 28:21demonstrate somebody going through some shit besides just
- 28:24being slammed in the face by all of this.
- 28:25You know what I mean? It's.
- 28:26The same thing with, like any gender, like saying like, men or
- 28:29women are terrible just because you've had a bad experience with
- 28:32them. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 28:33Like, nobody likes it. It's kind of, yeah.
- 28:35It's not exactly a good look. Yeah.
- 28:38OK, so apparently, like Archway was like a thing for the movie.
- 28:43I think because I I looked it up and I don't really think that it
- 28:45was a real thing, that it just brought me something about
- 28:49India. And I'm like, that doesn't apply
- 28:51to Sawville. I don't believe, unless Sawville
- 28:53may be in India. I mean, we don't.
- 28:55We we do know, but we don't know.
- 28:58You know what I mean? So yeah, I don't know.
- 29:01OK, OK. Absurd.
- 29:04Let's. See I have.
- 29:07I like at the very beginning we just get Chris Rock doing stand
- 29:12up about Forrest Gump. I feel like this is like a bit
- 29:14from his stand up routine or? Something bit that every like in
- 29:19cell on the Internet has said at one point or the other like it's
- 29:22not I. Think it goes in line with his
- 29:24character. I get that it goes in line with
- 29:26his character, but it's just like, God, I'm so sick of people
- 29:29being like, here's the thing about Forrest Gump, like they're
- 29:33giving some brand new information.
- 29:34I do like his delivery of it. It's funny.
- 29:37Yeah, I'm actually laughing at it.
- 29:38He's a funny guy, that's what I'm saying.
- 29:39Like when he delivers these types of lines, like it just
- 29:41felt like him doing stand up. It does feel like I'm doing
- 29:44stand up. I just, you know, wish he used
- 29:47something newer. You know what I mean?
- 29:50Like something a little bit more creative?
- 29:51The first line we get from him is Tom Hanks is a straight pimp.
- 29:55Like, come on, it's great, but it's absurd at the same time.
- 30:00And we've already talked about it, But the Zeke backwards cap
- 30:04and mustache? They gave him the mustache and
- 30:06the cap. And then Sam Jackson.
- 30:08Oh, he got a goatee. Oh, he got the goatee.
- 30:10Yeah, he got the Kramer goatee and Cap.
- 30:12Yeah, it's it's just so stupid. I love that they embraced it,
- 30:16though, and leaned into it, because you know that they did.
- 30:19Absolutely. My absurd God, you took all of
- 30:27the good absurds. How about the fact that they had
- 30:31a fucking trap in the basement of the Police Department?
- 30:36That's pretty intense. That's how I listen.
- 30:40I'll defend most of these traps. Unless maybe a lot of people
- 30:44hate the finger traps. Like he could just get out of
- 30:46the top. I'm like, did you take a look at
- 30:48the top? He could not.
- 30:49He absolutely could not just stand out of the top.
- 30:52The walls are too high like and. It dragged him like, up into the
- 30:55thing, yeah. Yeah, I I don't get how her
- 31:00severing her spinal cord was going to stop the machine.
- 31:02Like we don't see a button or anything that would like,
- 31:05trigger the thing to stop dripping the wax on her.
- 31:07Yeah, I don't really. Unless it's like the draw some
- 31:12blood and then I'll set you free, Buckethead.
- 31:15Trap. Like, yeah, like watching.
- 31:16Except we know for a fact that he wasn't because he ran out and
- 31:20stabbed at that other cop to distract them.
- 31:22So Angie would be in the trap. That's true.
- 31:25That's true. So we we don't know what's we we
- 31:28don't know what's going on. Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:31So yeah, that's I will have all of the disbelief in the world
- 31:38for these movies, but that one I just, I want.
- 31:40I need a tiny bit more. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:43A little bit more. Yeah.
- 31:45OK. So what are you rating it?
- 31:47Despite most people's opinion on this, I really like this one.
- 31:52I think it's a really good movie.
- 31:54I'm gonna give it an 8. An 8?
- 31:56Yeah. OK, I'm gonna give it a 7 1/2
- 31:59OK, I agree. I don't think that this movie
- 32:02deserves the hate that it gets. It is different.
- 32:05It's meant to be different. And I don't think the traps are
- 32:08as implausible as they're they're not outside of the realm
- 32:12of plausibility compared to other SAW movies.
- 32:14Let's not. Let's not act like that.
- 32:16So it is kind of interesting. Like I I always have to remind
- 32:20myself I have to turn my brain off.
- 32:22But yeah, every single one of these people are just so like
- 32:25genius engineers that can design this shit, you know what I mean?
- 32:28Yeah. Like, it's kind of And this guy
- 32:30was poor, like, you know what I mean?
- 32:32Like his family was not. He wants his dad as a child and
- 32:36they were not living in like a good like a very well.
- 32:40Yeah, Dad was like a janitor maybe.
- 32:42He was. Wearing like a yeah, that type
- 32:44of you. Know, it's like an apartment,
- 32:46you know? And it wasn't like a swanky
- 32:48apartment or anything. So, like, I know he didn't come
- 32:50from money. So, like, I don't know how he
- 32:52was able to get all this shit, but I don't know.
- 32:55Whatever. Yeah, you got to turn off your
- 32:57brain. All right, All right.
- 32:59So we did it. Yeah, 7.7575, yeah.

- 34:28don't see the trimmings around the bathroom nearly as much as I
- 34:32do with your other razors. It's true, it creates less of a
- 34:35mess in general. Also, I feel like, correct me if
- 34:38I'm wrong, I feel like you're shaving more now that it's.
- 34:41I kind of AM. Yeah, like I.

- 34:55I also like to appreciate the compact case that this thing has
- 34:59because we can store it under the sink.
- 35:00Nice and neat. We have a teeny tiny bathroom
- 35:03and it's nice to know that we don't have to worry about the
- 35:06shaver, the charger, and all the accessories that come with it.
- 35:09We don't have to worry about losing those because they come.
- 35:12And the nice little shed, compact case.
- 35:14And even cooler is that the blade guards.
- 35:17If you're trimming your face, you just want to take a little
- 35:20off the top. You've got different options

- 35:26guards. You don't have to, like, stop,
- 35:28turn it off, put the new one on. No, you just slide that bad boy
- 35:31down. Yeah, you're.
- 35:32Good to go. Yeah, you click it up, click it
- 35:34down and it gives you a bunch of different options with a single
- 35:36guard. It's it's really, really
- 35:37convenient. So trust us, this trimmer will

- 36:00How fun, how festive, how scary. Because there's fucking
- 36:04fireworks going on. Don't want any part of that. 4th
- 36:06of July, right? I'm pretty sure it's. 4th of
- 36:09July, Yeah, it's it's definitely July.
- 36:12Or it could be whatever holiday Saville chooses to celebrate,
- 36:15you know, their own independence from the world.
- 36:18Is there Independence from John Kramer?
- 36:21Oh my God, they probably. Would have a whole parade just
- 36:24for that. What if Jeff?
- 36:28If slow ass motherfucking Jeff wasn't dead like they would,
- 36:31he'd be the king of the parade. Which is perfect because parades
- 36:35move so slow. I feel like he would be like
- 36:38even slower for the parade though.
- 36:39Like maybe he like leads and he walks at the front of it, but he
- 36:42like stops and just like check out random shoot.
- 36:46OK, so yeah, we got out of cop. He's walking around, patrolling
- 36:51he's. I mean, he's dressed kind of
- 36:54spiffy and he's in his nice little white Sport coat with a
- 36:57little pork pie hat, like. Is that what those are called?
- 36:59I was going to say he's got one of those nice little hats.
- 37:00Yeah, I don't know if it's a pork pie, if it's a strap.
- 37:02I don't know what exactly what it is, but he's he's feeling
- 37:04himself. Yeah, it's it's like almost a
- 37:06top hat, but not, yeah. I mean, he sees a pickpocket,
- 37:09still a purse from a lady, which is a pretty massive pickpocket.
- 37:13And I You know what though? I like that he chases after
- 37:16because he could have been like, I'm plainclothes, they don't
- 37:19know I'm a cop, yeah. Exactly.
- 37:21And also it's they're all kind of corrupt here.
- 37:26So he could have used me, Just kind of.
- 37:28So he chases this person, and this person is going into the
- 37:30sewer through a main hole. But somebody sets off like, like
- 37:38firecrackers or something at his feet and he turns around and
- 37:41points his gun at the firecrackers.
- 37:42And I'm like, where are you? Are you gonna shoot the
- 37:44fireworkers? That's just fireworkers.
- 37:46Fireworks. It's just like the cop, you
- 37:49know? Like that's the instinct.
- 37:51Just like something happens gun. It just makes me think of the
- 37:55office or and he's like the fire is shooting at us.
- 37:58And he could have thought it was shooting like, I don't know.
- 38:00I've never been in a moment where I've had a gun, and that's
- 38:03happened to me. I don't know how it would react.
- 38:06He gets down into the tunnel. He sees a mannequin, but he
- 38:10doesn't realize it's a mannequin at 1st.
- 38:11And once that realization hits him, we keep a saw.
- 38:16Classic. Yeah, a good old fashioned pig
- 38:19napping. Good.
- 38:20Old cube. A cube.
- 38:21A pig napping. OK, so this is cool.
- 38:27You got some things to talk about this scene because we
- 38:29watched the special features where they, Darren Lynn Bozeman
- 38:32went down on like a deep dive of how this was all.
- 38:35Done. He wanted to film this in an
- 38:37actual subway track. And they were like, no, for
- 38:41about 20 different reasons, too expensive to close down a
- 38:45subway. There's the issue of the third
- 38:49rail. So we don't wanna kill our
- 38:51actors, you know, just we can't. We can't do it.
- 38:55And he was like, it's really important though that we have
- 38:57this as this first scene. This is how the trap has been
- 39:01envisioned. So he convinced them to build a
- 39:04subway station. However, they only built half of
- 39:08it, and honestly, not even really half because a lot of it
- 39:12is Looney Tune style painting on a wall.
- 39:15It was so cool. So like that down stretch
- 39:18through the tunnel where you see the train coming later.
- 39:20That's all of them just painting that there.
- 39:22Yeah, they just use forced perspective to trick your brain
- 39:25into thinking that that's actually a tunnel.
- 39:27Yeah, yeah. And they only did one side of
- 39:29it. So anytime that they had to film
- 39:30this, they would have to flip them back.
- 39:31Whereas that way you could see the back of it.
- 39:33But it's all the same shot that you're seeing the entire time.
- 39:36I can tell you that they're gonna take a million different
- 39:38shots from a million different angles anyway, So it it seems
- 39:42like it's worth it to, you know, save the money and just turn him
- 39:46around. I mean, I would have never known
- 39:48until he mentioned that, that this is what they did.
- 39:50'Cause I feel like subway tunnels look the same
- 39:53throughout, so you wouldn't really know.
- 39:55It was like repeating itself, yeah.
- 39:58And this is all practical too. So he's got like a fake tongue
- 40:02in his mouth there being hung. On has like taste buds and
- 40:05everything. Yeah, he like did a zoom in and
- 40:07just circled it. They the attention to detail is
- 40:10pretty impressive with this stuff right here.
- 40:12The only thing that they really, like, did digitally with this
- 40:15was they had to kind of make his mouth look a little bit smaller
- 40:18because obviously with his actual tongue inside it, it, you
- 40:22know, kind of had some issues. And then they also had to make
- 40:25the fake tongue wiggle in the vice, Yeah.
- 40:28But yeah, the the tongue itself and everything, it's all and it
- 40:31hanging from his mouth. That's all practical.
- 40:33Yeah, it's oh God, I can't imagine this is probably also
- 40:35one of the most snarly traps from this movie.
- 40:38I. This movie kills me because for
- 40:41most of these traps, the people are making the decision to do
- 40:45the, but they do it too late. That's what happens with.
- 40:50Him. Yeah.
- 40:50So because he lies on witness stands and railroads, innocent
- 40:55people, he's got to make the choice to rip out his tongue or
- 40:59be, you know, do nothing and be hit by a subway.
- 41:03So he jumps at the last second, which doesn't really do
- 41:06anything. Besides, we see his tongue being
- 41:09pulled out. Apparently it got cut down.
- 41:12It was going to be even gnarlier than what we saw, which was
- 41:15already pretty gnarly, but they filmed the whole thing when you
- 41:18see like, part of his throat coming out with the tongue too.
- 41:21Apparently the MPA MPAA. Yeah, yeah, they they kind of
- 41:25had their fingerprints all over this movie and he kind of got
- 41:29frustrated watching this stuff, talking about it.
- 41:31Yeah, like one point. Like, yeah, he's like, all
- 41:34right, He just walked off at the end of the special feature.
- 41:37Like like. This is making me sick, he like.
- 41:39Closed his iPad. He's like, bye yeah.
- 41:43OK, so yeah, he bites the tongue off a little bit too late, and
- 41:46then the train has something. He's dead.
- 41:48Yeah, and then we cut to Chris Rock doing the world's oldest
- 41:52stand up bit about Forrest Gump. And then as soon as he's done,
- 41:57they pull on their balaclavas and they go bust into a drug
- 42:00dealer's room. Demand all the drugs.
- 42:02Demand all the money. Go down.
- 42:04Get in there. Getaway car.
- 42:06In a single car. Garage, apparently.
- 42:09I don't know. Hotels had that either.
- 42:12Yeah, but when the door lifts, it's a bunch of cops.
- 42:15And they're like, oh shit. And then one of the cops is like
- 42:17Zeke. Amateur moved from that cop
- 42:20because, you know, he's probably undercover.
- 42:22Or you. I mean you.
- 42:24Maybe you caught him. Well, it's.
- 42:25Something holy over there? The problem is that we cut to
- 42:28Chief Angie Garza, reaming him out because this was not and
- 42:32approved undercover mission. Yeah, that's kind of crazy that
- 42:36he did that, that he's just like, decided one day.
- 42:38He's like, yeah, I'm going to like, go undercover and just
- 42:40join a gang. Yeah.
- 42:42And she's like, it's been 12 years, You need to get over it,
- 42:44OK? So we're going to have this
- 42:46going on a lot throughout the movie.
- 42:48And she's like, you're going to get partnered with a rookie,
- 42:51somebody to hold you accountable.
- 42:53Just because your dad was Chief Marcus fucking Banks doesn't
- 42:57mean that you can do whatever you want.
- 42:59So she kind of, like, yells exposition at him and at us.
- 43:02Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 43:04Yeah, so, like, they just bring it up pretty much that he turned
- 43:07in The Dirty cop and was punished, yeah.
- 43:10So, and people are still mad about it 12 years.
- 43:12Like I feel like everybody needs to move on.
- 43:14She needs to not just tell him to get over it.
- 43:16She's everybody. Everybody still hates him, but
- 43:20he broke the code so that I guess none of them can trust him
- 43:23anymore. The problem is that the cop, The
- 43:26Dirty cop, broke the code first. You know, by just shooting a guy
- 43:29I. I mean that could be part of cop
- 43:32code. Well, yeah, because he was doing
- 43:34it to protect another cop that killed another man.
- 43:37It just it's a it's a cycle of cops killing civilians, killing
- 43:41cops killing civilians. Yeah, it's it's just it's a
- 43:43bunch of dirtiness. Right there.
- 43:44Yeah, you could say it spiraled out of control.
- 43:48You could say that, yes, so. Should we say it?
- 43:54I think we should say it. We should.
- 43:55Say that? Yeah.
- 43:56OK, so they are called into a crime scene.
- 43:59Immediately, well, hold on. He meets his new partner.
- 44:02Yes. William Shank, which means that
- 44:05as a team, they are Shank and Banks.
- 44:09Shank and banks. Yeah, he's apparently a big fan
- 44:14of Marcus Banks. So he says Dad's the whole
- 44:16reason that he's here. Then they get a call for what
- 44:19they suspect is an unhoused person that's been hit by a
- 44:21train. Yeah, but when they get down
- 44:24there, they're like, OK, well, first of all, here's a TV.
- 44:28First of all, here's a wedding ring.
- 44:30First of all, here's a Fitbit. Also, before that, that's when
- 44:33they had the whole talk about, you know, the wife of like, cops
- 44:37and like the cop wife. Yeah, aspect.
- 44:40And we get to see that Zeke Banks don't drive a normal
- 44:44patrol car. He he drives his own ride.
- 44:46And you know what? Respect.
- 44:48They probably took his cop car away.
- 44:50Yeah, like we. Don't need you to, yeah.
- 44:52You're paying for your own mileage, yeah.
- 44:54Fuck you. You cover the gas cost.
- 44:59And he doesn't even have sirens at top.
- 45:01He's just got to get a megaphone and go woo, woo, woo, yeah,
- 45:07okay. So they get back to the.
- 45:09Station and there is a little gift box and it's got a flash
- 45:13drive in it. There is a spiral painted and
- 45:18the voice is like hinting at a jigsaw copycat.
- 45:21I like how he takes it, and then he walks over to Shank's
- 45:24computer and he's like, Shank's like, what are you doing?
- 45:26He's like, I'm not fucking on my computer, 'cause that's being my
- 45:30first slide, too. He's like this has probably got
- 45:31a virus on it. Here's the thing though.
- 45:33It comes across as a Dick move, but honestly it's really
- 45:35pragmatic because he has been a detective there longer and he
- 45:39probably actually has files that he needs, whereas Shank is the.
- 45:42First day? Yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
- 45:44That's a fresh computer. Yeah, exactly.
- 45:46Like, if it's fucked up, it's not going to be that hard for
- 45:48the guys in IT to, like, fix it. Yeah.
- 45:50So, OK, yeah, they played the tape.
- 45:52It's basically they're wanting to reform the department.
- 45:56They recognize that the show was at the courthouse, so they go to
- 46:00the courthouse to check it out. They find the spiral there.
- 46:02Fitch shows up. He is trying to stake his claim
- 46:06on this because it's it's a jigsaw copycat but there is
- 46:09another gift box there and Banks is like well, I'm taking it
- 46:14because it's you know it it I got the first one it was for me
- 46:17so and inside is a tongue clearly had chopped off the
- 46:22other little extra bit and a badge that says 4/5 three which
- 46:27is Boswick's number at the station.
- 46:29They're all talking about the case because it's one of their
- 46:31own. They're trying to figure out
- 46:33what they're going to do. Zeke is mad at Fitch because
- 46:35Fitch already contacted Bosnan's widow and basically Zeke's like,
- 46:42you know, he was my only friend in the department.
- 46:45Like, obviously. Like it would have made more
- 46:49sense for me to be. Able to Yeah, right.
- 46:50And that, yeah, that actually really tracks.
- 46:53I feel like he was definitely doing that to Zeke because he
- 46:56didn't want Zeke to be able to do that.
- 46:57Just like as an extra Fuck you. Yeah, well, 'cause they, you
- 47:00know, he kind of made an allusion to the fact that he
- 47:03only gets, you know, the cases that involve like unhoused
- 47:09persons and you know, like it it he doesn't get these high
- 47:12profile cases. Yeah, so now he's got his
- 47:14chance, Yeah. And then they're trying to,
- 47:16like, steal it from him here. Yeah, they give it that O'Brien
- 47:19given point. So that also pisses seek off
- 47:21even more. Brian O'Brien O'Connor Brian
- 47:23O'Brien. And so he he storms off and
- 47:29Angie follows him and takes him into the men's room, makes a
- 47:32dude leave, She's like, leave. And he goes, Yep, And he stops
- 47:37midstream, which led to a whole debate in our house if that's
- 47:39even possible for men to do, because at 2:00 to 1:00 ratio
- 47:43here, we don't. We don't know.
- 47:45Yeah. So I had to be the person to
- 47:47discuss that. Yeah.
- 47:48And then I was like, oh, he didn't even wash his hands.
- 47:50And then on the screen he goes, damn, you're not even gonna wash
- 47:52your hands. For the record, you can.
- 47:54I don't know. Apparently I didn't realize it
- 47:55was a thing that was like, not really known, but yeah.
- 47:58I hadn't really considered it. I don't know what the male
- 48:01pelvic floor musculature area looks like so.
- 48:05We got muscles. Got all the pee pee muscles?
- 48:09What do you get me started on? Pee.
- 48:10Pee muscles. OK, so he's also now gonna go
- 48:16talk to boss's wife himself. Yeah, well, Angie does agree to
- 48:20make him the point person, since he that should be their protocol
- 48:24because he did get the case first.
- 48:25Yeah. So he goes back in there and he
- 48:27starts trying to give orders and nobody's listening.
- 48:28And she has to step in and be like, yo, listen to him.
- 48:32One of our own has been killed and we need to work together to
- 48:34figure this out, right? So yeah, he makes banks change
- 48:37into a suit so they can go pay respect to the widow, and then
- 48:39he doesn't let banks say a word or come in.
- 48:42Why did he do that? I don't understand.
- 48:45He's just like here to entertain the kids.
- 48:47I don't know. I don't know.
- 48:50So he is there and he's asking Baz's wife if anything happened.
- 48:57Yeah. And she's like, well, you know
- 48:58how it is as a cop. And he goes, I know, but I need
- 49:00you to really think. And she was like, well, there's
- 49:01a black SUV out here about a week ago and just sitting out
- 49:05front and Baz went out and started yelling at him.
- 49:12So he's going to take all of his electronics and see if they can
- 49:16find, and if digital forensics can find anything.
- 49:20When he gets home, he feels like his apartment's been broken
- 49:23into. And in a way it has, because his
- 49:25dad's there and his dad's like, you pulled a gun on me.
- 49:29I could have shot you. And he goes, I'm the one with
- 49:30the gun. And then he pulls up a gun from
- 49:34behind his whiskey glass. And that's just such a baller.
- 49:38There it really is, yeah. And you know, they kind of argue
- 49:41a little bit and he's like, you know how we live in the same
- 49:44building and we haven't even had a meal together in a while.
- 49:46They kind of bicker back and forth, and then this is kind of
- 49:49like a sweet thing. Like dad doesn't want to admit
- 49:52he has feelings, but he is actually paying attention to
- 49:54what his son says. He goes, Listen, we'll talk
- 49:57about the case over some food tomorrow night.
- 49:59I mean, that's why he came down there in the 1st place, because
- 50:01he knew that he was close with Baz, so we wanted to check on
- 50:03him, you know, like, yeah, it was nice of him.
- 50:06It was, I think, I think Zeke is at a place where he's mad at the
- 50:10world and he's not. He's not trying to deal with it,
- 50:13yeah. And we get a flashback as to why
- 50:16he may be mad at the world. So we see Zeke encountering The
- 50:19Dirty cop. We don't know his name yet, but
- 50:21he shot a man because he claims he pulled a gun on him is what
- 50:25this guy? I love this line delivery.
- 50:27Every single time it happens, he goes.
- 50:29The witness pulled a gun on you. You can read it in the cop's
- 50:34face that he's full of shit, you know?
- 50:36Like it's so obvious for the. So at the precinct it's a late
- 50:41night. They're working on their on the
- 50:43case and Shank has to borrow banks his phone because his
- 50:49battery died. And once again, all things come
- 50:53back to Twilight because Zeke says don't drain my battery
- 50:56watching Twilight. Hey.
- 50:58Shut the fuck up, Zeke. Yeah, he can drain it and watch
- 51:01that if that's what he wants to. Do give the movie a chance,
- 51:03Zeke. Maybe you'd be less angry at the
- 51:05world if you just little little Aha.
- 51:07Aha. And.
- 51:10Hey, man, your whole tune changes whenever I show you a
- 51:13truck. Truck.
- 51:14Yeah, come on, man. Just go hang out in a in a
- 51:18lavender field and circle. Absolutely ridiculous right now.
- 51:22We are absolutely ridiculous. I thought that was our whole
- 51:24brand. It.
- 51:25Kind of is, but then just even for us, like, yeah.
- 51:30OK. So yeah, they're like kind of
- 51:33theorizing that there could be a John Kramer connection because
- 51:36this is very John Kramer ish. Yeah, but you know, he's been
- 51:40dead. A whale.
- 51:41Yeah. Finch arrives at the abandoned
- 51:44building. I guess he's got a lead.
- 51:46So Fitch and Krauss, they went to a what is it?
- 51:53They went to a pawn shop that had surveillance cameras facing
- 51:58the general area of the carnivals.
- 51:59So they were trying to get that footage.
- 52:01He was not told to do this, cleared to do this, didn't ask
- 52:04to do this. So he's kind of, they're going
- 52:05rogue. He recognizes the person on
- 52:07camera as one of their, like, snitches, Benny Wright, and he
- 52:12knows where he hangs out. So he's going to go look for
- 52:15him. And then, oh, then we kept back
- 52:19to the precinct. And this is important because
- 52:23Zeke sends Shank home and he calls him William.
- 52:27He's like, go tuck in your kid, William.
- 52:30So that's that's their turning point.
- 52:32Yeah, that's when you know Oh. They're actually becoming nice.
- 52:35Yeah. So yeah, we get to see Finch.
- 52:38He arrives at that abandoned building where he knows that
- 52:40Benny usually hangs out at, and he sees like a mattress there.
- 52:44So he, you know, he thinks it's him just sleeping, goes over
- 52:47there and nudges him. But it's a pig mask.
- 52:49Yep. Which leads to him getting
- 52:51pignapped. Of course.
- 52:52Of course he did try calling Krauss and O'Brien and
- 52:55ironically didn't get the backup that he was requesting.
- 52:57Yeah, if it. Talks, doesn't it, Finch?
- 53:02Seems like you should be able to count on your Co workers in this
- 53:04line of duty. So he wakes up in the tub and
- 53:08the tape starts. But we do not watch this game.
- 53:10This is a little bit different than normal.
- 53:12Normally we go into the full game and I wonder if maybe they
- 53:14were trying not set that precedent.
- 53:17So that way when we don't see Williams game later that it's
- 53:20not supposed to immediately throw us off, but because we
- 53:23never see the game. Yeah, it's like they want you to
- 53:25forget about it. Yeah.
- 53:26And you know what? You could be right.
- 53:28That could be what they were trying.
- 53:29To do that. That's my suspicion.
- 53:31I just thought it was strange. Yeah, 'cause, like, they like,
- 53:34they show the start of it and then they show the crime scene
- 53:36after the fact. I'm like, oh wait, did we not?
- 53:39Yeah, you. Yeah, 'cause I remember you were
- 53:42sitting there. You were like, is this a
- 53:43different version? So William calls Zeke from home
- 53:49and he's like, listen, I know you guys were close and I don't
- 53:51want to be the one to tell you this, but Boss has been accused
- 53:55of lying on the stand more often than any other cop.
- 54:00And you also hear, like, crying in the background and he's
- 54:02saying that he's sleep training Charlie, his son.
- 54:05In hindsight, this is so fucking stupid.
- 54:07Like you don't even need to do that.
- 54:08Like just saying that you have a kid is enough.
- 54:11You don't need to go all the way and be like, oh, but I got the
- 54:13cries. I like it, though.
- 54:15Yeah, it's. I like it.
- 54:17If you're gonna be a John Kramer villain, you've got to be as
- 54:20flamboyant as possible. You know what I mean?
- 54:22Like copycat the right way. What if that would have been
- 54:26Tobin Bell's cameo right there? If him just doing baby cries,
- 54:30you're like an old. Man going.
- 54:35Oh, no, that would. Be great.
- 54:38We have a flashback to Marcus yelling at Zeke for turning in
- 54:41Pete, He's like, you should have come to me first and he was
- 54:43like, I did the right thing. But when he leaves the office,
- 54:47he tells Angie that he's just worried about the the trouble
- 54:50that he's going to get After turning in a fellow cop in
- 54:54present, Zeke goes to his dad's apartment and the delivery guy
- 54:59just hands him the food after he confirms he's not the customer.
- 55:02Yeah, he's like, are you? Are you?
- 55:05Are you Marcus? Spanx.
- 55:06Marcus. Spanx.
- 55:07That's right. Yeah.
- 55:07He's like, I'm his son. He goes cool.
- 55:10It's just like, are you this guy?
- 55:11No. All right, here you go.
- 55:12Was the food prepaid? I don't this must have been.
- 55:16Oh, at the station, another package has been sent, and this
- 55:20time it's a video with a Sparrow on the truck and the Mr. Snuggle
- 55:25says that you need to point your fingers at yourself before
- 55:29pointing them at other people. Or I can't believe that we
- 55:32didn't get the line. Like any time you .1 finger at
- 55:35somebody else, three are pointing back at you.
- 55:38Yeah, that could have been a good one.
- 55:40I'm I'm just honestly kind of surprised that didn't happen.
- 55:44They they know where this location is.
- 55:46It's like a bridge that's two blocks away.
- 55:48So they all get there. The truck is there and inside is
- 55:52a pig and yet another box that has 10 little thingies and A987
- 55:57or A982 badge, which is Fitch's badge.
- 56:01So Bozeman was talking about he had these prop fingers in his
- 56:07suitcase as he was coming back home, and when he got to customs
- 56:11to cross the border from Canada and to the United States, they
- 56:14looked through his shit and they were like, why?
- 56:17Why I always? Love stories like these because,
- 56:22like, you got to explain like, I don't know.
- 56:24I'm like Saw movies. I'm Darren Bozeman.
- 56:26Darren Lynn Bozeman. Come on, man, let me call Tobin.
- 56:31You're like Bozeman. Sounds Canadian, eh?
- 56:34Tobin, Well, no. He like calls Tobin.
- 56:37It's like Coast is a so we finally get the game now, right?
- 56:44Or do we get no we? Get flashback to Zeke requesting
- 56:47backup and Fitch saying fuck him and then he gets shot in the
- 56:52tongue Tom, which could have been really bad and Marcus comes
- 56:55out and he goes, I wanna know why my son was asking for backup
- 57:00for for 8 minutes and not a single person responded and now
- 57:04he's shot. I'm going to figure I'm going to
- 57:07call a dispatch and see who was closest and then I'm going to
- 57:09personally shoot you. And then Fitch was like, it was
- 57:12me. And then he, like, attacks him.
- 57:13I feel like the script probably just said and Sam Jackson does.
- 57:17Sam Jackson, Yeah. Because he just, like, goes in
- 57:20there and delivers some very intimidating lines.
- 57:24Well, and here's the thing too, is that there's a couple of cool
- 57:27little references to Pulp Fiction specifically.
- 57:30Like I think Ezekiel's name is a reference to the Bible quote
- 57:35that he does in Pulp Fiction and then later on down in the cold
- 57:38case storage room it says Vincent Jules.
- 57:42Yeah, that's a really cool time. Yeah.
- 57:44OK, now we actually get the trap that's going on here.
- 57:47So Finch's or Finch? Finch's trap is, you know, like
- 57:52the finger trap stuff. Like the little like finger
- 57:54traps you used to get when you were a kid.
- 57:56What is it? No hard feelings where they get
- 57:58the little. Trap.
- 57:59Yeah, Yeah. So they.
- 58:01He just needed to. He needed to talk about a sweet
- 58:03little baby boy and learn that you push in.
- 58:06But I don't think that's how these actually work.
- 58:07No. So Darren Lynn Bozeman was
- 58:09actually going into detail about how this actually worked.
- 58:12Those were actual functioning finger traps.
- 58:14So like the guy that was playing Fitch was actually like he had
- 58:18his finger stuck in there and he he said that whenever he was
- 58:21pulling his fingers back that it was getting tighter each time
- 58:24that he would do that. So they eventually did replace
- 58:28it with prosthetic hands whenever the chain pulls them
- 58:32all the way up there. This is like a fully functioning
- 58:34machine too. I don't know if how much
- 58:35attention you were paying to. This.
- 58:36Yeah, it was. I was taking up some other notes
- 58:38at the same time. For yeah, everybody else
- 58:41listening benefit, they actually had this design, so they said
- 58:44they had, they had to actually play it safe because they could
- 58:46have actually tore his fingers off.
- 58:47Here. Yeah.
- 58:48So whenever they pull him up with the chains all the way up
- 58:52to the thing, that's where they make the change through
- 58:54prosthetic hands. He's actually got his hands down
- 58:56inside the little thing there and they just kind of painted
- 58:59around it to hide it. That makes sense.
- 59:00Yeah, he was so pissed off about this scene, though, because the
- 59:04MPAA actually butchered this thing.
- 59:06He said he had at least like an hour and a half of footage of
- 59:09this one scene. Dang.
- 59:11Yeah, and apparently he was really pissed at himself because
- 59:15they really needed to convey the importance of this, like with
- 59:19the water levels rising. But they didn't get a lot of
- 59:22footage of the water rising, so they had to keep reusing that
- 59:25shot over and over again and try and tricky into thinking that
- 59:28it's rising up. Well, and here's this, honestly,
- 59:31this just it really kills me when people are like, this would
- 59:33be the easiest trap to beat. And I'm like, I don't think it
- 59:36would. I think people, this is one of
- 59:38those are like, yeah, I could probably outrace this like
- 59:41Olympic athlete. Like it's that kind of like like
- 59:44you truly don't realize what you're saying.
- 59:47And the the tub is high. It is high up and he is pulled
- 59:51up to that thing. There's no way that he could
- 59:53lift himself up. He's locked in, and especially
- 59:56with how high up the copper wire is, it's at the rim of the tub.
- 59:59Yeah. So it's there.
- 1:00:01There's no way. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:00:03And they had footage of every single one of the fingers being
- 1:00:08torn out, but they wouldn't allow it.
- 1:00:12And they said, if you are to show it, 'cause they had like
- 1:00:15muscles and bones and all that shit being displayed like they
- 1:00:18could only, yeah, they could only display 10 frames at a time
- 1:00:22of any of that. So that's why we get like just a
- 1:00:25quick cut, so. That's why it's so choppy, OK?
- 1:00:27Yeah, it just sucks because, like, this is the one that
- 1:00:30pissed him off and he's like, you know what, Fuck this shit.
- 1:00:32He. Just like stop this, I'm done
- 1:00:34talking. About this because he is now.
- 1:00:36Yeah, he like he That was his first time watching.
- 1:00:38It don't get any information about the wax trap.
- 1:00:41I know I was so. Odd about the Fingies.
- 1:00:42Yeah, but yeah, he he was. That was his first time watching
- 1:00:46the footage of that since actually editing the movie.
- 1:00:48He's like, this is fucking pissing me off.
- 1:00:51I felt bad for him. I was like, oh man, he could
- 1:00:53have been awesome. It was already awesome.
- 1:00:55Here's the thing, though, is that he wasn't, like, loud about
- 1:00:58it. Like Travis's editor realizing
- 1:01:00he was more of that quiet, pissed off.
- 1:01:01He's like, pissed. Pissed me off.
- 1:01:02It's just like he was trying to go into detail and every time he
- 1:01:06was starting like a new detail, he's like, no, this is just
- 1:01:07making me mad. Like he would just keep talking
- 1:01:09about how mad he's getting. The more he watched it, it's
- 1:01:12kind of funny. So yeah, I mean, that's what
- 1:01:14happens to him. Like he gets all of his fingers
- 1:01:16ripped off and it's still too late.
- 1:01:18The water rises up high enough and he gets electrocuted.
- 1:01:21Yeah. And basically the reason he was
- 1:01:23in there, we didn't actually talk about this.
- 1:01:25He shot a man at a traffic stop because he insulted him.
- 1:01:29Yeah. So, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:33Talk about a delicate little snowflake, right?
- 1:01:37So Cross tells Banks about the video footage that they went and
- 1:01:41got. And so he's like, he can't be
- 1:01:44too mad, 'cause they're all like, well, you have motive to
- 1:01:46kill fish. And he's like, I'm also lead on
- 1:01:48this case, so yeah, you know. Well, we also had Hoffman, so
- 1:01:52that's also true. Yeah, we have.
- 1:01:54He's the president of that happening here.
- 1:01:57So Banks and Shank go to look for Benny at his meth dealer and
- 1:02:02they basically they try and send up.
- 1:02:05They say they're sending up money to get some meth, but it's
- 1:02:08actually an ink bomb. So they bust in, knock him down
- 1:02:12in a way that manages to break, like cause a compound fracture.
- 1:02:16This dude's got brittle bones. This man needs some vitamin D.
- 1:02:19He got taken through a fucking coffee table, a glass coffee
- 1:02:23table, and that causes Shin to just come out of his leg like, I
- 1:02:26don't understand how. That, yeah.
- 1:02:28Brittle bones, man. You go to your doctor, talk
- 1:02:31about some osteoporosis. We need to, we need to to look
- 1:02:34into your health, Sir. This one of the most
- 1:02:36uncomfortable scenes though, because they use it as an
- 1:02:38interrogation tool. Because anytime that they don't
- 1:02:42get an answer, Zeke just takes a bottle of alcohol, pours it on
- 1:02:46the open bone and hits the bone with the bottle.
- 1:02:50Yeah, it's it's effective. And like, you can tell that
- 1:02:53Williams, like, really uncomfortable with it because
- 1:02:55he's like, this is the type of shit that, like, I'm killing
- 1:02:57people over, Yeah. Watch how Zeke might be killing.
- 1:03:01Me, you're next. But he says that the word on the
- 1:03:04street is that Benny OD, Nobody's seen him in like 2
- 1:03:06days. Yeah, this is.
- 1:03:08Then we cut to them saying that John Kramer didn't target cops.
- 1:03:13Oh, how quickly we forget. I get that it's been maybe a
- 1:03:15decade, but you're wrong. So they are like, OK, Zeke, so
- 1:03:20do you have any enemies? So because they're wondering why
- 1:03:23all these packages are being addressed to him.
- 1:03:25Yeah. And Williams, like, are you
- 1:03:26being targeted because you're the lead of the case or because
- 1:03:29you are you? Yeah.
- 1:03:31He goes and looks for his ex partner, Dunleavy, and he's at a
- 1:03:35a. He's living in the basement of
- 1:03:37the church. We have a flashback to Pete
- 1:03:39confirming with the witness that he can positively identify the
- 1:03:42cop who threw a man off a roof. And this guy was like, yes
- 1:03:46officer, I will come testify in court, I can positively ID him.
- 1:03:51I'm a good citizen and the cop goes bye bang.
- 1:03:54All right. You're dead, motherfucker.
- 1:03:56Yeah, you'd have told me that. Don't talk to cops, people.
- 1:03:59It's don't do it. Am I being detained?
- 1:04:02Yeah. So yeah, we got that there.
- 1:04:07And he's just basically Pete. I guess that's his name too.
- 1:04:13He's just kind of given Zeke shit for turning him in.
- 1:04:16Yeah, he's like, yeah, man, things were wild with Article 8,
- 1:04:19but like, he's got no remorse. I don't think he's doing AA
- 1:04:23correctly. He kind of sounded like those
- 1:04:24were like the good old days, like, man, article eight.
- 1:04:26Wow. Yeah, he's like, remember you?
- 1:04:27Could just kill people. You just, like, shoot a guy
- 1:04:29because he saw you kill a guy. Yeah, it was awesome, man.
- 1:04:33Article 8. But he So Zeke asked him where
- 1:04:38he was the knight of Foz's murder, and he goes, oh God,
- 1:04:41you're here for that. OK, yeah.
- 1:04:43So some guy from A A came in drunk, wanted to fight his
- 1:04:46sponsor, and I broke his nose. I'm still on probation, but
- 1:04:49luckily O'Brien was the one that responded.
- 1:04:51So he let it slide, you know, like you do.
- 1:04:54Again, I don't think that Pete Dunleavy is doing a A correctly.
- 1:04:58Fuck this dude. Yeah, so.
- 1:05:02Dad is still not home. Yep, at 9:00 AM, they're trying.
- 1:05:06He's trying to call Shank. He has not shown up.
- 1:05:09He's gonna wait to work, Yeah. And then another package
- 1:05:12arrives. They they tackle the fucking
- 1:05:13delivery man. Why?
- 1:05:15He was just doing his job. This feels very seven to me when
- 1:05:20John Doe actually finally walks into the precinct.
- 1:05:22So I was like, oh shit, is this? For a second I was like, oh, is
- 1:05:25this going to actually be the new jigsaw?
- 1:05:28Yeah, that would be. Hilarious.
- 1:05:29Yeah, he was just. Like I was just delivering it
- 1:05:32like I was. Told what if it was the delivery
- 1:05:33kid that gave him the food? Oh my God.
- 1:05:36Yeah, it. Could have been perfect.
- 1:05:37Yeah, so O'Brien has a moment where he's like, we need to get
- 1:05:41Bomb Squad here and Zeke is like, Angie, you're the head of
- 1:05:47the department, Yeah, Which is, honestly, it's not helping her
- 1:05:51to, like, call her out to need to use her power.
- 1:05:53That also doesn't make her look powerful.
- 1:05:54So power struggles all around. That's fucking police politics.
- 1:06:00I guess, but it's so funny because he has this whole worry
- 1:06:02about the about it being a bomb and then they moved the package
- 1:06:05anyway. It's like they put it right on
- 1:06:07Shank's desk. Yeah, all right, He's the new
- 1:06:09guy. Let's fuck his stuff up.
- 1:06:10It's mystery Snuggles, except Mr. Snuggles has a new outfit
- 1:06:15much like the Emperor, and it's made of skin.
- 1:06:19And it's don't worry if you thought maybe you know Mr.
- 1:06:22Snuggles was an all neutrals person.
- 1:06:24Mr. Snuggles likes a little branding on his clothing in the
- 1:06:28form of 1 tattooed named Charlie.
- 1:06:31Yeah, and there's also AI think it's like the car that says am I
- 1:06:34getting under your skin? So they check underneath the
- 1:06:37skin and they find that there is Constantine paints found inside
- 1:06:40of it. And that's a clue for Zeke.
- 1:06:43Yes, because he and his dad used to go to Constantine hobby shop
- 1:06:46which is now a butcher shop. And when they go in there, they
- 1:06:49find a skinned body in the back of the butcher shop that this
- 1:06:52fully opened and functioning butcher shop hadn't noticed.
- 1:06:57How do you not notice a fucking body with no skin?
- 1:07:01Can you imagine, like being the teenager or whatever that opened
- 1:07:05the shop that day and was just maybe you're like hungover or
- 1:07:08whatever and you just don't go. You don't do all of your normal
- 1:07:12opening duties. Then that body is found.
- 1:07:14Like, not only is that traumatic, but you're definitely
- 1:07:17getting fired because now the boss knows you're not doing your
- 1:07:20job. Yeah, I mean, that's one of
- 1:07:22those ones where you just pretend like you didn't see.
- 1:07:24You just look at it, stand there for a second and turn around, be
- 1:07:26like, I'm not going in there. I'm going to pretend like I
- 1:07:28never went in there. All day today.
- 1:07:30You can fire me. I don't give a fuck.
- 1:07:31I'm not getting involved in that shit.
- 1:07:33Too much? Yeah.
- 1:07:36OK, so. Garza gets a text from Marcus's
- 1:07:41phone to check the cold case file.
- 1:07:43He's got a hunch about what's going on.
- 1:07:46Meanwhile, Zeke gets a call, but another cop has been stabbed by
- 1:07:49a person in a pig mask, so he gets to check on him.
- 1:07:53The guy is just hurt and also a little upset with the way Zeke
- 1:07:58is coming at him, 'cause he's like, 'cause his arm honestly is
- 1:08:01pretty fucked up, Like those are some deep wounds.
- 1:08:04He's not feeling good. It's not quite as bad as Anton
- 1:08:07Yelich. No, that's not his name.
- 1:08:10No, it is Anton Yelich. OK, yeah, yeah, not quite, I
- 1:08:13thought. I got it mixed up with the
- 1:08:15baseball player. Christian Yelich Yeah, Yeah, it
- 1:08:19kind of. It's a very.
- 1:08:20Quick game. It's not quite as bad as Anton
- 1:08:23Yelich in Green Room, but it's not like a little cut.
- 1:08:27It's not a scream. Misdirection Ghostface.
- 1:08:30Yeah, I guess it's not like a drive by cutting.
- 1:08:32He probably stopped there and just gave him a real good one
- 1:08:35and ran. Off, Yeah, if we have the
- 1:08:36sliding scale, it's right there in the middle.
- 1:08:38I'm just also impressed he was able to get away with this.
- 1:08:42OK, so there was also a message with the package from before
- 1:08:47that says take your head. Yeah, while you're waiting for
- 1:08:50another body to fall, I'll take your head.
- 1:08:52So, and this is when Zeke realizes take your head means
- 1:08:55they're going after Garza. Yeah, she's the head of the
- 1:08:57department. So in the file room, the door
- 1:09:00slams shut and some smoke smoke bombs come out and basically
- 1:09:04Angie gets kidnapped. Oh, she's covered for the
- 1:09:06department, all of their wrongdoings and everything, and
- 1:09:10she has to sever her spinal cord to avoid hot boiling wax pouring
- 1:09:16onto her face. Now if it was going to move her
- 1:09:18face out of the way, I would understand that, but I really
- 1:09:22don't understand how this is meant to work.
- 1:09:24Because you're going to be paralyzed, you won't be able to
- 1:09:26move after the fact. That doesn't free you.
- 1:09:28Yeah I I don't I don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:09:31I. Don't know if they thought this
- 1:09:32through, and I don't know if it's, I don't know.
- 1:09:35Maybe like it's meant to be half assed.
- 1:09:37I don't know. I feel like that could be
- 1:09:38interesting, but I feel like they're still trying to play it
- 1:09:41off as like a competent jigsaw copycat.
- 1:09:44Feel like Josh Solberg is a fan of both House of Wax and Wolf
- 1:09:50Creek and was like but what if both?
- 1:09:52Well, if he were, then why don't we have J pads in this movie?
- 1:09:57Why isn't J Pads in a Saw movie? Right.
- 1:09:59He saw 11 make it happen. Soxy.
- 1:10:04Soxy. Get us, get us some J pads and
- 1:10:07he'd be a great like opening kill oh.
- 1:10:09Dude, Sexy soxy. Sexy Soxy.
- 1:10:11Yeah. Oh my God.
- 1:10:12Let's fucking do it, all right? We're going to get, we're going
- 1:10:16to get the cash cut and the sexy socksy.
- 1:10:19Roll. Yeah, please get these, get
- 1:10:21these hashtags. Tweet it, Josh Stolberg Tweet
- 1:10:24it. Who's doing?
- 1:10:25Is it greater again that's doing?
- 1:10:26Solo. I think so.
- 1:10:27Yeah, just tweet. Tweet at them, tweet at
- 1:10:30Lionsgate, tweet at Twisted Pictures.
- 1:10:32So Angie's like, fuck you like she's trying to get out, but
- 1:10:37she's also not trying to sever her spinal cord.
- 1:10:39Like, she's honestly just really fighting this, and it's cutting
- 1:10:42her neck, but it's not. She's not putting enough
- 1:10:44pressure on it to cut her spinal cord.
- 1:10:46Yeah, I mean, at that point where you already have your face
- 1:10:49like severely burned and you've also like, it's between like
- 1:10:53having a like a burned face like that and just like being
- 1:10:55paralyzed, like I'm just like just fucking let's just do this.
- 1:10:58She's basically being like, waterboarded, 'cause I.
- 1:11:01Have the cloth over her face and that's going to melt to her
- 1:11:04face, yeah. Which we see because Zeke has
- 1:11:07realized what's going on. He comes back in a panic.
- 1:11:09And I was like, no, a cop was stabbed.
- 1:11:10And he goes, no, they're it's a diversion.
- 1:11:12They're coming for Angie. So they end up going down to the
- 1:11:16file room. They have to get the code to get
- 1:11:18in and it's too late. She's already gone.
- 1:11:20He does try to do some CPR, but it's not.
- 1:11:22I can't believe he peeled her face back because it just is
- 1:11:26peeling the skin off of her face.
- 1:11:29J Pads. J Pads.
- 1:11:32Oh yeah, but they thought that he was a wax figure.
- 1:11:34And in this case, it's like, hey, I'm going to save you by.
- 1:11:37Ripping your skin off, guy was like, oh God, let me get this
- 1:11:40off with you. And he's like trying to pull it
- 1:11:41off. And then the one little tear
- 1:11:42comes down his face. That's yes, but he thought it
- 1:11:45was a wax figure. At first initially, yeah.
- 1:11:49Yeah. Chris Rock just went another.
- 1:11:50I'm ripping that shit off. So he locks down the precinct
- 1:11:54and he reviews the footage. 13 minutes are missing, so it's
- 1:11:57between when she goes down there and when Zeke appears, so.
- 1:12:02They also checked the logs and they noticed that Pete is
- 1:12:05somehow logged into the system and was able to do that.
- 1:12:10They're like, he shouldn't still have access and they're like,
- 1:12:13well, your dad also, O'Brien says.
- 1:12:15Your dad still has access too, and he's got motive.
- 1:12:18And Zee goes like I will fuck you up.
- 1:12:21Yeah, they fight. He's like, where's your dad?
- 1:12:23He's like he's, he's turning in tapes.
- 1:12:26I don't. Know and he walks 2 feet away
- 1:12:28and he goes, Dad, answer your fucking phone.
- 1:12:30I can't cover for you anymore. Yeah, it's pretty funny.
- 1:12:33But while he's doing that call, he gets picked up.
- 1:12:36Marcus is in a building. We cut to him.
- 1:12:39It's like an abandoned soap factory.
- 1:12:41I think that's where he is. There's like spirals everywhere.
- 1:12:43Oh, this is a spiral zone. Oh, OK, Because, you know, it's
- 1:12:46just like a zone and it's got spirals all over the place.
- 1:12:48You know what that totally tracks as a naming method.
- 1:12:52Thank you. So he sees written on the wall.
- 1:12:56Do you want to play a game? Detective Binks and.
- 1:12:58He says. Let's play a game, motherfucker.
- 1:13:00He finds like the puppet and then a typewriter and we don't
- 1:13:04see what all is on the typewriter, he just gets
- 1:13:06pignapped. Yeah, I think it was basically
- 1:13:08just, you know, saying like, I know you were responsible for
- 1:13:10Article 8, blah, blah, blah. Zeke wakes up and sees someone
- 1:13:15else's, like chained up and hanging in the middle of the
- 1:13:17room, but he is handcuffed to a pipe and he's got a little
- 1:13:20hacksaw and you know he does the classic this, and I feel like
- 1:13:24Chris Rock was really excited about this moment.
- 1:13:27Yeah, cuz you get to do the thing, yeah?
- 1:13:29They had talked about doing a similar callback to Danny Glover
- 1:13:33in the first one, his yeah, yeah, when he gets attacked.
- 1:13:38But they didn't want to do that, so they did this.
- 1:13:41It's convenient that he doesn't have to either break his wrist
- 1:13:45or chop it off. They gave him a pin.
- 1:13:49There'd be, yeah, there's a Bobby pin right there, which we
- 1:13:52find. It makes sense when we figure it
- 1:13:53out later, but. What kind of?
- 1:13:56Well, I guess it's meant to be a diversion.
- 1:13:58Like, I was just trying to make you think.
- 1:13:59Yeah, it's a version. I guess I should say I don't.
- 1:14:01Know. Yeah.
- 1:14:02So it's actually Pete that's tied up.
- 1:14:06He has no clue what Zeke is talking about because Zeke's
- 1:14:08like, did you kill Boss? Did you take my dad?
- 1:14:11What's going on? Where's your boyfriend at?
- 1:14:13Is he at the concession stand? Is he getting you juju bees?
- 1:14:16Or you like juju bees? Is that the Mad TV guy?
- 1:14:20Yeah. OK, so so this is actually a
- 1:14:23game for Zeke, apparently. It's like, OK, so here's a piece
- 1:14:27of shit that you turned in for doing something.
- 1:14:30And as you know, from talking to him the other day, he has
- 1:14:32learned absolutely nothing from losing his job.
- 1:14:36So we're gonna throw glass shards at him and you can just
- 1:14:39you can leave. Yeah, you can just leave the.
- 1:14:42But he ends up figuring out that there's a key in the trash can,
- 1:14:46and he's trying to help Pete, but it is too late.
- 1:14:49This is gnarly. This is really gross.
- 1:14:53And then I have a problem, because when Zeke walks away, he
- 1:14:57is way too fucking casual about all of the glass in him.
- 1:15:01I I have stepped on glass, unfortunately, numerous times in
- 1:15:06my life. Yeah, even a tiny little piece
- 1:15:08of glass like you feel. It you feel it, but he's also
- 1:15:13got a bunch of adrenaline going through his system and you don't
- 1:15:16realize shit like that. And while you're hopped up on
- 1:15:19adrenaline until after the fact. Well, last time I had a piece of
- 1:15:23glass in my foot, I went at it with too much adrenaline, and I
- 1:15:27actually broke a fingernail trying to pull it out.
- 1:15:29Yeah, you were already in bed. And like, I was coming to bed
- 1:15:32and then all this was happening and I climbed in and you're
- 1:15:36like, goodnight. I was like, I was so grumpy, my
- 1:15:41foot hurt, I broke a nail. And you were just cuddled up in
- 1:15:46the bed with the girls. Just having a good time, feet
- 1:15:50all intact, no blasphemy. Living the life.
- 1:15:56Yeah, man, Yeah. And also Glass makes you bleed
- 1:15:58like a motherfucker. I do appreciate that they gave
- 1:16:02him like some swelling around some of the wounds, but there
- 1:16:04should this should have been. He should have had more of a
- 1:16:07reaction, even with the adrenaline.
- 1:16:09Yeah, like as soon as he walks out of the room trying to play
- 1:16:11it cool, he's just like, but no, instead he just kind of casually
- 1:16:16walks into the next room where Shank is just kind of casually
- 1:16:20waiting for him. Yeah, so his dad, Charlie, was
- 1:16:24the witness that Pete Dunleavy shot.
- 1:16:27He doesn't actually have a wife or a son.
- 1:16:30This isn't his real name, but somehow he managed to go through
- 1:16:33the Academy, get assigned to his precinct and assigned as his
- 1:16:36partner. He killed Benny and used him for
- 1:16:39the fake skinning trap after he, you know, did his whole thing,
- 1:16:42luring boss into the subway system.
- 1:16:44And he tattooed his Charlie on him.
- 1:16:47Yeah, so he also had to learn how to tattoo in the meantime
- 1:16:50with all of this. Oh man, I'm just imagining him
- 1:16:52going through like the whole boot camp for.
- 1:16:55Costume he's. Also an apprentice at a tattoo
- 1:16:57shop. They're like, man, when do you
- 1:16:59sleep And he goes, you know, when you're passionate.
- 1:17:02I'm also sleep training, Charlie.
- 1:17:05Fucking Charlie, just toven. Yeah, OK, so he used when he
- 1:17:13borrowed Zeke's son. He used that to text Marcus and
- 1:17:15then like, blocks them from being able to contact each
- 1:17:17other. He offers to take care of The
- 1:17:20Dirty cops as long as Zeke finds them.
- 1:17:22And he's like, listen, you failed my first Test because you
- 1:17:24tried to help Pete Dunleavy that piece of shit.
- 1:17:27But here's your next chance. And beforehand let me do this.
- 1:17:31So he calls 9/1, he goes shots fired at the old soap factory.
- 1:17:36I need somebody. Here he goes.
- 1:17:37You have 4 minutes complete this.
- 1:17:38Your dad will die in 3 minutes because he is being fully
- 1:17:41exsanguinated. And he also fires off 4 rounds
- 1:17:45with the gun that he has there. So basically, he tells in the
- 1:17:50next room, they lock the door. He's like, you can shoot down
- 1:17:53that target, It'll let your dad free, he'll stop bleeding out
- 1:17:58and his dad's like, no, you need to shoot this motherfucker.
- 1:18:01And then Swat's there. They're trying to come in and so
- 1:18:04it's like this whole clusterfucks.
- 1:18:06So he ends up shooting the target down.
- 1:18:07So that way his dad gets down, but William has been doing
- 1:18:10something on the side with a cable, and then he tries to get
- 1:18:16away in a little crate cart. What are they?
- 1:18:19Crate. Yeah, I don't know what they're
- 1:18:22called the. It's like a service elevator
- 1:18:24type thing, but so Zeke follows him in there, starts fighting.
- 1:18:29Him. Yeah.
- 1:18:30SWAT teams. Buzz saw him through the door
- 1:18:32there. When they hit the wire, the
- 1:18:34cable that William strung up, it causes Marcus to get pulled back
- 1:18:41up. And this is when we see that the
- 1:18:42things on his arms are actually guns, and his arms are getting
- 1:18:46pulled up and start firing, which means that the Swat's
- 1:18:49gonna shoot him. They own.
- 1:18:52Yeah, they, yeah. They got shotguns, they got
- 1:18:54assault rifles, they got handguns, they're just putting
- 1:18:57every single. Bowl again.
- 1:18:58I feel like Josh Silver watched Unfriended Dark Web and was like
- 1:19:02swatting. So we're doing swatting in
- 1:19:04horror movies? Bet.
- 1:19:06It is an actual thing that's been going on here lately.
- 1:19:09Yeah. And so Zeke runs out and he's
- 1:19:13like trying to make them stop, but it's very much too late.
- 1:19:16And then the elevators going down and William just looks at
- 1:19:19him and does a little. How the fuck did nobody notice?
- 1:19:22You know that they would be checking the area in case
- 1:19:25there's anybody else there, right?
- 1:19:27Yeah, but they see this motherfucker just taking an
- 1:19:30elevator, just going. Yeah, they're like, it's fine.
- 1:19:33Yeah, come on, it's just. Yeah, And that's the.
- 1:19:36End. Yeah, that's how it ends.
- 1:19:37And then we get the best fucking song we get.
- 1:19:40Make a spin like a spiral and it's really cool.
- 1:19:42So the it's a it's a it's about a banger, if you will, and we
- 1:19:49listen to it constantly. But 20?
- 1:19:51One savage. 21 Savage Re Listening to it on the close
- 1:19:56credits last night, it's way more orchestral.
- 1:19:58It's like Charlie Klauser, like amped Up, that part of it, and
- 1:20:01it's really cool. Yeah, you get more than bump,
- 1:20:03bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump, bump.
- 1:20:06But the I fucking love that song.
- 1:20:08It's so good I I listen to it casually.
- 1:20:10You've probably heard us, like, casually sing it in older
- 1:20:14episodes. Because what we do drop, it's a.
- 1:20:16Spiral piranha. OK, so that's the end of the
- 1:20:20movie. That's the end.
- 1:20:21You know what? I'm gonna bump it up to an 8.
- 1:20:23OK, cool. You were right the first time.
- 1:20:25I'm keeping it out of name. Yeah.
- 1:20:26I I like this movie a lot. It does some fun new things.
- 1:20:29It does some fun of the familiar things, and it's fresh.
- 1:20:35I like it it it was a good time to go in a newish direction with
- 1:20:41this series I think. Yeah, and it it you can tell it
- 1:20:44was done with like love and respect.
- 1:20:46I'm glad that Chris Rock is a fan of the series, too, because
- 1:20:48that you mean you know, that he's coming at this from, like a
- 1:20:50true perspective. Yes.
- 1:20:52And I feel like I, you know, I spent so much of my life
- 1:20:56watching Chris Rock and various different things, so it was nice
- 1:20:58seeing him. And do something different.
- 1:21:00Yeah, it's really cool. It's so out of the norm.
- 1:21:02But like, yeah, I really, really appreciate it.
- 1:21:04It's also super cool having Sam Jackson.
- 1:21:06Yes, I like we blessed to live in this in this particular
- 1:21:11universe. Oh, we didn't talk about in the
- 1:21:13flashback. Well, I guess we did before
- 1:21:15where you had the backwards cap on, but.
- 1:21:17Oh, no, we talked about that plenty.
- 1:21:18Yeah, yeah, yeah. Discussed the change.
- 1:21:21Oh, OK. We need to.
- 1:21:22We just have something that we would change.
- 1:21:24I would probably do something different with all the flashback
- 1:21:27sequences. I need them to be meaningful
- 1:21:30each time they happen that's true, and not be repetitive.
- 1:21:33I wanted more Mr. Snuggles because Billy is such like a big
- 1:21:38presence in the series and Mr. Snuggles is just there a few
- 1:21:41times. I want something traumatic, A
- 1:21:45traumatic display of Mr. Snuggles.
- 1:21:46Kind of like Billy and Jeff's game and the trike.
- 1:21:50Oh yeah, I want a future movie to like, have both Billy and Mr.
- 1:21:55Snuggles together. My God.
- 1:21:57OK, OK, I want a full moon feature of Billy versus Mr.
- 1:22:05Snuggles. Dude, that would be awesome.
- 1:22:08I would love that. Is that our sequel?
- 1:22:10I know we don't do sequels for this, but this is our.
- 1:22:12Dream. Yeah, let's just do it because
- 1:22:13this is like a spin off from that.
- 1:22:15Let's just do this. Let's do this right here.
- 1:22:16That's a dream sequel for this series right here.
- 1:22:18OK, dude, that would be so cool. Like dueling copycat killers.
- 1:22:22Yeah. No, this is my fucking
- 1:22:23territory. And they try and get each other.
- 1:22:25Oh fuck yeah, that would be awesome.
- 1:22:27OK, OK, so Talia. Talia, she was pretty sleepy
- 1:22:31throughout it. She's very sleepy.
- 1:22:32Yeah. I mean, it's just it was a big
- 1:22:34weekend for her so. She's tired herself out that
- 1:22:36time. But I will tell you that
- 1:22:37generally, she really likes this movie because she's also a huge
- 1:22:40fan of Sam Jackson. We've watched a lot of that
- 1:22:43motherfucker in this house. That's true, yes.
- 1:22:45I'm gonna say yeah, I'm gonna say.
- 1:22:47She gives it a night. She goes right after this.
- 1:22:49You know what she did? She ate.
- 1:22:51She did. You're right, Yeah.
- 1:22:52OK, so we've already decided that for Zoe, we're changing it
- 1:22:56up with her because she's been generally watching the movies
- 1:22:59with us. So who do you think Zoe believes
- 1:23:02is the superior hunter in this movie?
- 1:23:07I think that she believes probably.
- 1:23:17Well, shit, I don't know. It's tough.
- 1:23:19I've got, I've got those. I was gonna say Sam Jackson's
- 1:23:22character, Banks. OK.
- 1:23:24What is your rationale for that? Well, he makes it to the spiral
- 1:23:28zone, OK? He's running around in the dark,
- 1:23:31and Zoe does that a lot whenever she's hunting stuff.
- 1:23:34My thought process is similar that it would be Marcus Banks
- 1:23:37but because he he was shouting the whole time he was hunting.
- 1:23:42And that's what. Zoe does.
- 1:23:44In the dark, Yeah, whatever. Is Zoe's hunting in the dark?
- 1:23:46She screams the entire time she. Goes and then whenever you go
- 1:23:52and say, hey Zoe, she always looks embarrassed.
- 1:23:54She's like, oh, hey, she's. Yeah.
- 1:23:55Oh, you heard. That who's?
- 1:23:57Who's doing that? That's weird, right?
- 1:23:59It's a ghost, maybe. I don't know.
- 1:24:03OK. So which who did you relate to?
- 1:24:09I that's a good question. Part of the show.
- 1:24:19That is part of the show. That's why we did it, 'cause we
- 1:24:22only do good questions on the show.
- 1:24:23Obviously, show man this is, it's kind of a tough one.
- 1:24:30Well, I will relate to Shank because I have also taken like,
- 1:24:36I haven't. I've had an interest in being a
- 1:24:39tattoo artist and I feel like he didn't have to do that.
- 1:24:41But he's like, if I'm going to go there, I'm going to like have
- 1:24:43fun with it. I'm going to like, I'm going to
- 1:24:45go and learn how to tattoo. Also, I feel like he just like
- 1:24:49was looking for an excuse to wear.
- 1:24:51Tattoos like this is like a fun side project.
- 1:24:52For like, why? Why would I ever want a tattoo?
- 1:24:54Well, obviously I have a son and you know, he cries all the time
- 1:24:58and I got to tell people about him so and I got to have a
- 1:25:00tattoo of him because I love that motherfucker.
- 1:25:02Well, it's also his dad's name, so.
- 1:25:04Oh, was it? Yeah.
- 1:25:06Fuck. And also love my dad.
- 1:25:10Either way, I you know, the tattooing thing.
- 1:25:12Yeah, that's funny. OK, I think I relate to the both
- 1:25:22the delivery person with the food and the hungover kid at the
- 1:25:28butcher shop, 'cause like there's some days that you're
- 1:25:31just like, I don't have the I don't have the energy to deal
- 1:25:33with, I don't get paid enough for this shit.
- 1:25:35But you're not the guy. I've been staying here for like
- 1:25:37half an hour, so take it. I don't care who gets at this
- 1:25:39point. OK.
- 1:25:43All right, new tagline. He's turning this around because
- 1:25:50it's like turning around, like what the meaning of the spiral
- 1:25:53is, and it's also turning around like a spiral.
- 1:25:57It's turning around. Yeah, that's pretty deep.
- 1:26:01And then you can also, like, go into some Bonnie Tyler after
- 1:26:03that, if you're feeling Froggy. That's true.
- 1:26:05Yeah, I'm always froggy for Bonnie Tiser except for in Dial
- 1:26:10Code Santa. That's a great scene.
- 1:26:13It's actually a hard scene to watch, but boy, grew up.
- 1:26:19Nobody knows what we're talking about unless you guys have seen
- 1:26:21Deadly Games. We talked.
- 1:26:22About that. Yeah, but who?
- 1:26:24Not everybody's listened to that or seen that movie.
- 1:26:27Yeah. OK.
- 1:26:28All right. OK, so.
- 1:26:32Which trap? Which trap do you think you'd
- 1:26:34survive from this? This is a tough one, man,
- 1:26:36because all the traps suck and they're all really tough to win,
- 1:26:39I think. I think.
- 1:26:42I mean, I'm going to go with. I'm not ripping out my tongue
- 1:26:47and I'm not ripping off my thingies and I'm not.
- 1:26:49I'm not going to be paralyzed. So I guess I'd have to do the
- 1:26:52glass one, which would suck, but you.
- 1:26:58Know The thing is, that's not even anything for you.
- 1:27:00You just have to be like. No, I'm thinking about it from
- 1:27:03from Zeke's perspective. Oh, where?
- 1:27:05You have to go over there and unlock it.
- 1:27:06Yeah, yeah, I think I could do that.
- 1:27:09I think I could do. That it would suck.
- 1:27:10It would suck. But.
- 1:27:12I'm having. I'm trying to rationalize the
- 1:27:14decision here. So, like with the tongue, all
- 1:27:17right, I'd have to learn like, sign language.
- 1:27:19Well, and also like like what they were saying in the special.
- 1:27:22It's not just gonna be your tongue that comes out.
- 1:27:24It's so much more. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:26They mentioned that like. And like, that's also like, it's
- 1:27:29a whole entire, like, torture method, you know?
- 1:27:32Yeah, So I just, I can't do that.
- 1:27:34Fingers like, I don't know, can I get some bionic fingers like
- 1:27:37on my hand? And just not on a cop's salary.
- 1:27:41Does this count as workers comp? Does.
- 1:27:45This If you're a kid, if you're a pig, nap while working the
- 1:27:48case and injured but survive. Is that workers?
- 1:27:52Comp. It's kind of related to work
- 1:27:53because he was targeted because he's a cop.
- 1:27:55Exactly, but he's also investigating the case.
- 1:27:58Yeah, I think. I think it should know whether
- 1:28:01or not they'll allow it. I don't know.
- 1:28:03They're all kind of crooked people over there.
- 1:28:05I think I could like, sign up for some experimental, like give
- 1:28:08me some like, weird fingers or something.
- 1:28:10I don't know, Give me something or I'll just.
- 1:28:13I'll be a Powerpuff Girl. You know.
- 1:28:15What I mean? Just put Your hands are weird.
- 1:28:18Yeah, I just strap some Velcro to like my.
- 1:28:21Yeah, there we go. Yeah, it's gotta be the glass.
- 1:28:24I think it's gotta be the glass. OK.
- 1:28:26OK. All right.
- 1:28:27Now time for Internet review. Jesse, what did you get?
- 1:28:30Well I know that we're both fans of this so I found what is
- 1:28:35technically a four out of 10 on IMDb.
- 1:28:38OK and I thought they brought and and I know we always talking
- 1:28:43about the suspension of disbelief in this but I do think
- 1:28:45these are some interesting points that we didn't discuss
- 1:28:47ourselves. Rock dreadfully miscast plays
- 1:28:51detective Zeke Banks who is the focus of a campaign of terror by
- 1:28:54a serial killer who seems to be emulating the infamous John
- 1:28:56Kramer AKA Jigsaw. Only this time the victims are
- 1:28:59corrupt, corrupt cops. How topical?
- 1:29:02Banks is sent parcels in the post by the new killer, leading
- 1:29:05him from 1 gruesome discovery to another and the opening scene.
- 1:29:08The trap is situated above a subway line.
- 1:29:10The victim given the option of losing his tongue or losing his
- 1:29:12life, did no one making this film question the logic of
- 1:29:14installing a complex mechanical device above an operational
- 1:29:17railway line? How long would the device have
- 1:29:19taken to assemble? Did no trains pass by on those
- 1:29:21days? Was the 3rd rail electrified the
- 1:29:23whole time? Oh my God, she's been dumb.
- 1:29:25You're so right. But not as dumb as the trap that
- 1:29:28the maniac somehow manages to assemble in the police evidence
- 1:29:30room. It pumps boiling wax onto the
- 1:29:32victim's face, thus requiring a power supply and some heavy duty
- 1:29:35equipment, yet is installed without a hitch, no one
- 1:29:38interrupting the presumably noisy work and nobody
- 1:29:40questioning the presence of such a device.
- 1:29:42And I got to love the following scene for the wrong reasons.
- 1:29:44Zeke picks the lock on his handcuffs using a hairpin and
- 1:29:47then protects himself from high velocity shards using a dustbin.
- 1:29:50This person has got to be British dustbin.
- 1:29:52What the? Firstly, picking a lock is not
- 1:29:56that simple. It can be done, but it takes
- 1:29:57practice and time. Secondly, that bin ain't
- 1:30:00protecting it. There's glass flying everywhere,
- 1:30:01but that's okay. What's a few deep flesh wounds
- 1:30:03to a tough guy like Zeke? The I'll considered script also
- 1:30:07holds a few surprises regarding the identity of the killer.
- 1:30:10As soon as Detective William Shank was declared dead without
- 1:30:12showing how he was killed or why he was chosen, I knew I had my
- 1:30:15man. And sure enough, one might say I
- 1:30:18saw that coming. 3 1/2 out of 10, generously rounded up to
- 1:30:23four for the finger trap, which is undeniably nasty.
- 1:30:27I like that review. That was awesome.
- 1:30:28Really well. They had a part about the
- 1:30:30puppet, but I'm not including that because we've already
- 1:30:32discussed the puppet at length, OK?
- 1:30:34Yeah. I mean, yeah, that is some good
- 1:30:37things. I mean, I I agree.
- 1:30:39Like we talked about the basement and like the evidence
- 1:30:42room where they had that one. But I never even thought about
- 1:30:45the subway one because, yeah, like another train would have
- 1:30:49hit that. Yeah, like unless it was like
- 1:30:53how did he hang it up? Like, yeah, I've got a lot of
- 1:30:55questions and I need, I need a making of, but like a
- 1:30:57mockumentary type making of of the traps.
- 1:31:00That's a fun. That's a fun idea, that.
- 1:31:02Is a fun. Idea, fan film idea.
- 1:31:05If anybody wants to work on that, we can do.
- 1:31:08That OK. OK, All right.
- 1:31:11Internet reviews. OK, you mean listener reviews?
- 1:31:15Yes, listener reviews. You just did the Internet
- 1:31:17review. That's right.
- 1:31:17Yep. OK, so we got a couple here.
- 1:31:21I'll start off on Instagram, Cubesafe says.
- 1:31:24Backwards hats always make you look younger.
- 1:31:27Facts. Facts for sure.
- 1:31:29I mean, throw in a mustache or a goatee and you're golden.
- 1:31:32You look like a little baby. That's why Travis looks like
- 1:31:34he's about 18 years old most of the time.
- 1:31:36Backwards, cap and A and a mustache or his or his things.
- 1:31:40People don't know this simple trick.
- 1:31:42It gets you far in the world. Doctors hate this one.
- 1:31:45Simple. Trick, Michael B Howard says.
- 1:31:48Oh, Spiral. I wanted to really love this
- 1:31:50one. I've seen it now four times and
- 1:31:52I'm just not the biggest fan. I feel like this was a great
- 1:31:55detective movie. If we had left it at that, I
- 1:31:57would have enjoyed it much better.
- 1:31:59The traps are not very exciting and the plot is meant.
- 1:32:01The jigsaw voice was very odd. All in all, not a favorite, but
- 1:32:05being a SAW fan, I will bump it a couple of notches.
- 1:32:09I'm going with a solid 6.25 for this.
- 1:32:11I'm hoping that when I listen to the show I may feel different.
- 1:32:14Maybe we've convinced you. Yeah, maybe.
- 1:32:17And you know what? I get it like if you want more
- 1:32:20of an actual, like, real saw film, I get that.
- 1:32:25I now that I've seen it, I always go into it as like, I
- 1:32:29know that it's not SAW. Yeah, but it is.
- 1:32:31But it's not. Adjusted expectations, which I'm
- 1:32:34sure you would have by now since you've watched this like four
- 1:32:36times too, so you know what you're getting, but yeah.
- 1:32:40I definitely see what you're saying, that if like you're in
- 1:32:42the mood for a Saw movie, depending on what you mean by
- 1:32:45that, this isn't gonna be your first one that you go for.
- 1:32:48Yeah, generally whenever I say to you, let's put on a saw, this
- 1:32:51one isn't usually on the table like I'm running one of the
- 1:32:53classics. Like usually when you're like
- 1:32:56when you wanna watch this, you say, let's watch spiral.
- 1:32:58Yeah, exactly. Like for when I'm wanting to
- 1:33:01watch a Saw movie, I'm putting it between like 2 through.
- 1:33:04Six, Yeah. Two through 6 are the ones that
- 1:33:06we tend to rotate through the mouse.
- 1:33:07Yeah, and probably socks when we get that.
- 1:33:12I'm going to be buying that soon.
- 1:33:13That way we have it. Yeah, because we need it for
- 1:33:15next month. We do.
- 1:33:16OK Over on Twitter, Aquile Boob says.
- 1:33:22I was so out of the saw loop when I watched this one.
- 1:33:25I hadn't seen any since 4:00. I think.
- 1:33:27Really enjoyed this one though. That opening seemed brutal.
- 1:33:30The traps are intense. And that reveal, I'll be honest,
- 1:33:32I would have taken Shinx offer dirty cops.
- 1:33:35Got to go. Hey, man, you know what?
- 1:33:38Like, it's a that's chaotic good right there.
- 1:33:40That's the bad good. But he, he's trying to do a good
- 1:33:43thing. It's just very misguided.
- 1:33:45Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:33:47I mean, if it's like a thing where like, they're still
- 1:33:49running on Article 8 and they're killing people at random, like,
- 1:33:52yeah, I guess, like it's time to just, you know, fight back in
- 1:33:55that case. But you know, yeah, in this
- 1:33:59situation, he's just, you know, he's like, yeah, they kind of
- 1:34:01sucked and they killed my dad. So I'm going to kill everybody.
- 1:34:03Yeah, yeah, it's it's a little bit of revenge and that's a
- 1:34:06little bit of cleaning up the system.
- 1:34:08And I I think it's really funny that we've had all of this talk
- 1:34:10about love and the Saw movies and then people coming into this
- 1:34:13and not loving it because it doesn't feel like Saw.
- 1:34:15So I think it's interesting. But if you haven't watched all
- 1:34:18of them and then you watch this being like, Oh yeah, I really
- 1:34:20like this. That is kind of cool because
- 1:34:21it's also like. A different perspective.
- 1:34:24On it. Well then also like, I feel like
- 1:34:26people are probably like, well, I can jump in.
- 1:34:28No, this one, I'm not going to be missing anything.
- 1:34:30Yeah, you know, like then that's true.
- 1:34:31You could watch this one and not watch any of the other Saw
- 1:34:34movies and be totally fine. It's kind of like when we're
- 1:34:36doing The Hunger Games movies, watch through and you're like,
- 1:34:39wouldn't we start with the prequel?
- 1:34:40And I was like, no. Yeah, it makes more sense after
- 1:34:43the fact that you're watching. All the others, yeah, there's
- 1:34:45too much that's in there. But this isn't necessarily like
- 1:34:47that. No, this is a spin off.
- 1:34:48Yeah, this could. You could just watch it on.
- 1:34:50It's on it to be fine. Yeah, OK.
- 1:34:53And final reviews from Tyler. I had the hardest time with this
- 1:34:57entry. Some of the traps were good.
- 1:34:58The broken glass cannon was insane, I didn't like Chris
- 1:35:01Rock's character. The villain reveal was mad at
- 1:35:03me. And how the hell did Sam Jackson
- 1:35:05get here? May require a second watch, but
- 1:35:09I was disappointed. Those are all good questions.
- 1:35:11Yeah, I think it's a movie that's better on the second
- 1:35:13watch because like, you know, you already know that you know
- 1:35:17what's going to happen instead of just being kind of, like
- 1:35:19bummed out that you figure it out or like trying to understand
- 1:35:22the characters. Like you can just turn your
- 1:35:24brain off and go along for the rad.
- 1:35:25Yeah, and I I like the traps in this one.
- 1:35:28I wouldn't necessarily go to this movie if I'm looking for a
- 1:35:30Saw movie with good traps, but I would go to this one if I wanted
- 1:35:34a saw movie that was a little bit more grounded and plot.
- 1:35:39I mean, even though this movie's not very grounded but like it's
- 1:35:42more plot. Driven Yeah.
- 1:35:44There's a lot more plot to this than in a typical song like.
- 1:35:46The other one's like a soap opera, but it's always like
- 1:35:49following them, going through these trap mazes, and then also
- 1:35:53like a little bit of detective stuff on the side.
- 1:35:55This one focuses way more on the detective aspect.
- 1:35:57Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:35:59OK. So that's our reviews there.
- 1:36:01OK. All right, so next week.
- 1:36:05Well this weekend we have a 2 beer not to be brought to you by
- 1:36:08Jesse and this week Scary Movie. Scary movie.
- 1:36:12That was our Patreon vote and I do believe that we are going to
- 1:36:14bring a fellow podcaster and our favorite Canadian, Steve, from
- 1:36:19the decision. Reel this is.
- 1:36:22One of his favourites and we knew whenever the time came to
- 1:36:25cover this that we would need to, we couldn't have anyone
- 1:36:28else. Every movie is always led to a
- 1:36:29discussion about scary movies somehow.
- 1:36:32So yeah, this is like it's all been building up to this right
- 1:36:35here. Right now you can watch Scary
- 1:36:39Movie on Sling TV Max, YouTube Primetime, Hulu Premium, Prime
- 1:36:44Premium, YouTube TV Premium, or you can rent it from Google Play
- 1:36:47or Fandango at home. I also I want to stress this
- 1:36:49wasn't planned because they were booting the series.
- 1:36:52This is just like a happy coincidence.
- 1:36:53Yeah, it just had like we we threw up a couple of horror
- 1:36:56comedies for the vote for our budget patrons and this is the
- 1:37:01one that won. And it just that.
- 1:37:03I think it was like that same day we saw the announcement, but
- 1:37:06they're rebooting it. I just saw it this past week.
- 1:37:09No, I saw it. I saw it like, shortly after.
- 1:37:12Really. The vote was done.
- 1:37:13Yeah. Wow.
- 1:37:14OK, yeah. So yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:37:17It's a really fun movie, so it's gonna be a good time.
- 1:37:19So yeah, watch it if you can and come check back next Thursday
- 1:37:23and. Yeah, and if you haven't watched
- 1:37:25it in a while, I'd honestly recommend watching it again
- 1:37:28because it's one of those that you're like.
- 1:37:29I feel like it's dumb humor that I liked back then, but then you
- 1:37:32watch it and you're like, it is dumb humor that I liked back
- 1:37:35then, but it's actually still pretty fucking.
- 1:37:36Funny that hits. It's the stuff that lasts.
- 1:37:38You know what I mean? That's the shit right there that
- 1:37:40shaped your sense of humor as a kid.
- 1:37:42Yeah, and I mean, the Wayans brothers are just.
- 1:37:44They're so funny. They're so fucking funny.
- 1:37:46So it's it's a good time. We watched the honestly about as
- 1:37:51much as we watch the Saw movies. We'll go through the three, the
- 1:37:55the three, the first three scary movies.
- 1:37:56Yeah. All right.
- 1:37:57Cool. So, yeah, be on the lookout for
- 1:37:59that. Yeah.

- 1:39:47Maybe somebody will be like, Oh my God, I love this movie.

- 1:40:04So I think that's it for Spiral. So we will see you guys with our
- 1:40:08To Be or Not to Be coming out this weekend.
- 1:40:10All right. Until next time.
- 1:40:12Bye. Can tell you enough.
