- 0:00Speaker 1: Final segment with coach Jim Morire in the Yukon Football
- 0:02Speaker 1: Coaches Show, and then as mentioned, Malachai McClain and Mel Brown,
- 0:06Speaker 1: the two number sevens, will join us as the player interviews. Well,
- 0:09Speaker 1: UMass is the opponent. I believe this is game number
- 0:12Speaker 1: seventy seven with the minute Men, one of the longer
- 0:14Speaker 1: rivals in Yukon's football career. They come in at two
- 0:17Speaker 1: and nine. But as you have said so many times
- 0:19Speaker 1: to Mike and the media, the records don't matter. This
- 0:22Speaker 1: is a team that gave Georgia a pretty good battle
- 0:26Speaker 1: last Saturday down in Athens, and they're respectable offensively, they
- 0:30Speaker 1: can put points on the board.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they're a good football team. I mean they're physical upfront.
- 0:34Speaker 2: They have two quarterbacks that they they're both effective. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: like their receivers. I think they run the ball really
- 0:43Speaker 2: hard with those two backs, and they're a good football team.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You know, we don't look at the records. We just
- 0:49Speaker 2: look at the film and we see on film as impressive.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You know, you certainly take notice, and yeah, it's going
- 0:55Speaker 2: to be a we have to just have a great
- 0:57Speaker 2: week of preparation so that we give ourselves a chance
- 0:59Speaker 2: to go up there and compete to win.
- 1:01Speaker 1: One of those quarterbacks is aj Harriston, young man out
- 1:03Speaker 1: of Florida. He's a freshman. Looks like he has decent size.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's about six two two twenty here I can
- 1:12Speaker 2: take exactly. I mean he's yeah, you know, you watch
- 1:14Speaker 2: him on film and you do notice it. He's got size.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He's uh, he's a good looking kid. He's uh, let
- 1:20Speaker 2: me find it. I can't find it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Not, don't worry about it. I think it's about six
- 1:24Speaker 1: ' three something like that.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a good looking kid. Good looking kid.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Mike uh, Mike Jim Uh. They just recently made a
- 1:32Speaker 1: quarterback change and going to the two younger guys. So
- 1:37Speaker 1: how far back do you look at the at at
- 1:39Speaker 1: UMass game film.
- 1:41Speaker 2: We look at every game they played, so we'll look
- 1:43Speaker 2: at eleven games plus the game against him last year.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I mean, we don't we don't typically leave any stone unturned,
- 1:49Speaker 2: so we are well, look at at everything. We'll go
- 1:52Speaker 2: back and we'll look at the guy that's calling the plays,
- 1:55Speaker 2: whoever that may be. For any game we're playing. We'll
- 1:58Speaker 2: go back and look at if he's coming from an
- 2:00Speaker 2: other school, will go back and look at you know,
- 2:02Speaker 2: games past, seasons past, You're always trying to figure out
- 2:07Speaker 2: how they're going to try to attack you and figure
- 2:09Speaker 2: out the best way to attack them.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Are there running back? The running back duel of Jalen
- 2:14Speaker 1: and Hester, how different? How similar?
- 2:17Speaker 2: They both just run really hard. I mean size wise,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, Jalen John's a little bit bigger, but on film,
- 2:24Speaker 2: they both just look like really powerful, tenacious runners. They
- 2:27Speaker 2: don't go down easy, they keep moving their feet, they
- 2:29Speaker 2: move forward, they fight for yards. I think they're both
- 2:33Speaker 2: really good backs.
- 2:34Speaker 1: What about you mass defensively, Keith Tazinski is the defensive coordinator.
- 2:39Speaker 1: A couple of linebackers, Jalen Stewart no not the basketball
- 2:42Speaker 1: player who plays at Yukon and Jerrell Johnson on their
- 2:45Speaker 1: top two tacklers. And you know, linebackers are usually the
- 2:48Speaker 1: leading tacklers. But what do you see defensively as far
- 2:50Speaker 1: as their scheme goes, Well.
- 2:52Speaker 2: They're doing, you know, some of the things that they
- 2:54Speaker 2: did with coach Brown, and then you know they're moving
- 2:57Speaker 2: into some of the things that you know are different,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and you know Dodzinski, he wants to put his flavor
- 3:05Speaker 2: on things. And you know, they made a statement in
- 3:06Speaker 2: their press conference yesterday that they're they're throwing wrinkles in defensively.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But the one thing you notice is that they they
- 3:12Speaker 2: play hard, They fundamentally sound, they get to the football.
- 3:17Speaker 2: They present a lot of different variations to you in
- 3:19Speaker 2: terms of front and coverage structure. You know, they can
- 3:22Speaker 2: be in a in a four down look, a three
- 3:24Speaker 2: down look, and in you know, down to down. They're
- 3:29Speaker 2: gonna they're gonna change, They're gonna get difficult. They don't
- 3:31Speaker 2: just sit in one thing. And uh, you mentioned their linebackers. Now,
- 3:34Speaker 2: Stewart went out last week with a little lower body injury,
- 3:37Speaker 2: so I'm not sure how he's gonna be on Saturday.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But Darrell Johnson, we think we will think both those
- 3:43Speaker 2: guys are really good players. Durell he's you know, he's healthy,
- 3:46Speaker 2: he's got forty starts. I mean, he's he's a really
- 3:49Speaker 2: good football player. So you have to count for those guys.
- 3:52Speaker 1: A couple more minutes with Jim. We have the Thanksgiving holiday.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's game week, so nothing changes in a way of
- 3:57Speaker 1: game prep. But what do you have playing for the
- 4:00Speaker 1: boys on Thanksgiving? Us for as dinner goes with this
- 4:02Speaker 1: big family of yours.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Well, we'll have our normal meetings in the morning, our
- 4:05Speaker 2: normal practices. Thursday is typically a day that we we
- 4:11Speaker 2: don't meet in the afternoon so that it's just right
- 4:13Speaker 2: for us. For Thanksgiving, we're going to have a Thanksgiving
- 4:16Speaker 2: family feast right here in the Burton Indoor for the
- 4:19Speaker 2: Shankman Indoor, and a lot of the coaches wives are
- 4:24Speaker 2: going to come over and decorate and you know, make
- 4:27Speaker 2: the tables look homey, and we'll have you know, turkey
- 4:30Speaker 2: and all the fixings, and we'll have football games on
- 4:33Speaker 2: and all the families and their kids of the staff
- 4:36Speaker 2: running around. Just try to make it a homelike environment
- 4:39Speaker 2: for the guys that can't be at home. I think
- 4:41Speaker 2: it's really important that we take some time and we
- 4:45Speaker 2: you know, we have that that fellowship that's so necessary.
- 4:48Speaker 1: What's your go to on Thanksgiving as far as food goes.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Massed potatoes? I just yeah, my Grandpa Bob, you made
- 4:57Speaker 2: the best mashed potatoes in the world. And and uh,
- 5:01Speaker 2: I just you know, I we were really tight obviously,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and so my Grandpa Bob's mashed potatoes this week will
- 5:09Speaker 2: be Miss Pam, you know who runs our kitchen. Miss
- 5:12Speaker 2: Pam's mashed potatoes. But it's just mashed potatoes, all right, Well,
- 5:15Speaker 2: mashed potato pretty boring, I know, but grandpa. So there
- 5:20Speaker 2: you go.
- 5:21Speaker 1: There you go, Jim, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Thanks for a few minutes, and we'll talk to you
- 5:25Speaker 1: over the weekend.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Okay, I'll see you Saturday. You take care of right, Yes, sir, Thanksgiving? Yes.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Jim Moore, the head coach of the Football Huski's here
- 5:31Speaker 1: on the Coaches Show. Malachai McLean is next. As we
- 5:34Speaker 1: continue here Onlearfield, stay with us.
