- 0:13OK, another police officer charged with drink driving.
- 0:20There's been, as I've spoken about before, has been quite a
- 0:23few this year. There's a spate of them very
- 0:27early on in the year. It seemed like before I go any
- 0:33further, I will. I'll tell you that I think I've
- 0:37actually met this guy before. Sounds name.
- 0:40His face looks very familiar. Name sounds very familiar.
- 0:45But yeah, so I think I have met him before.
- 0:48But, and anyway, let's have a look at what's been going on.
- 0:56Okay. So this.
- 0:58This headline here, this came out a few days ago.
- 1:00Actually had to buy the paper because it was all the story.
- 1:06Didn't get a lot of a lot of coverage, a lot of media
- 1:09coverage at all. But yeah, it was hidden, hidden
- 1:13in one of those pay-per-view things.
- 1:15Anyway headline officer on drink drive Sergeant drove police car
- 1:20well four times over limit four times.
- 1:22That is huge Queensland cop. Has been suspended from duty
- 1:29after allegedly driving a police car drunk while on shift.
- 1:34It's not in his own time on shift Towns.
- 1:39Sergeant David Lynch was stood down on Monday and has since
- 1:43been charged with driving under the influence, speeding and
- 1:46driving dangerously. Police Will Allegedge Sergeant
- 1:50Lynch was 56, was on duty. When he drove a police car while
- 1:56almost four times over the limit.
- 1:59Four times that is huge. So police will allege Sergeant
- 2:06Lynch drove dangerously and was caught speeding.
- 2:09Towns of Bulletin understands Sergeant Lynch was driving to
- 2:14conduct a precious a wide load escort when the incident
- 2:18happened earlier this year. It's understood he was taken to
- 2:22hospital on arrival at the job OK.
- 2:26The officer returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.199%
- 2:32wow, almost four times over the legal driving standard.
- 2:36The Ethical Standards Command investigated the incident and
- 2:40revealed on Monday Sergeant Lynch had been suspended from
- 2:43duty and charged over the incident.
- 2:50Now he is facing charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle
- 2:53or adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, a
- 2:59driving was it driving under the influence of liquor and
- 3:04disobeying the speed limit. Sergeant Links primarily worked
- 3:07at Townsville station and in the police Communication center.
- 3:11He also occasionally relieved as district duty officer during the
- 3:17later years of his career. The Ethical Standards Command
- 3:21were contacted but said it was unable to comment as the matter
- 3:25was before before the courts. In keeping with our commitment
- 3:30to high standards of behavior, transparency and accountability,
- 3:33we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the
- 3:37service faces serious allegations of misconduct, A
- 3:41spokesman said. Sergeant Lynch will face court
- 3:43on April 20. Sorry, August 22nd look.
- 3:48As usual, a little disappointing, very
- 3:50disappointing. I hesitated on looking on,
- 3:54actually talking about the story because I would.
- 3:58I'll bet you Sergeant Lynch, not to.
- 4:03Not to make excuses for the guy, but someone with his experience,
- 4:07I would bet you he is probably suffering from some PTSD issues.
- 4:12Like I I did an episode talking about my own issues with PDSD
- 4:16that I had that came from being on the job.
- 4:19And once it all, once I realized what it was talking to the
- 4:23psychologist and you know, they give you the diagnosis and
- 4:26explain what it is. I'm sitting there thinking, wow,
- 4:30so many of the guys I know sitting thinking of all the the
- 4:33things that tell you this is what this is what happens with
- 4:36PDSD. And I I kind of realized.
- 4:39So many of the people I've worked with over the years, I'm
- 4:42looking back thinking, high probability, they're got a few
- 4:46issues with PDSD, someone with Sergeant Lynch's experience.
- 4:55You're out there on duty, you know, and you're going to a job,
- 5:00and yet you still take this kind of reckless, reckless behavior.
- 5:07Not to make excuses for him, but.
- 5:10Lynchy, you need to seek some help mate.
- 5:12I would bet bet you that you're suffering.
- 5:16I bet you've got some issues. OK, like I said, not to try and
- 5:20make excuses for him, but I'd bet you've got some issues.
- 5:25What I found is we try and not that I did this kind of stuff on
- 5:29duty or that, but I did in my life.
- 5:32Try and try and cover up or try and drown out.
- 5:37The things that were bothering me, the things that were keeping
- 5:38me awake at night, Things that kept waking me up at 2:30 nearly
- 5:43every day for like years anyway. A couple of years.
- 5:49The things that brought on the claustrophobia, the constant
- 5:53memories. I would bet you he is trying to
- 5:59drown out some of the memories, some of the things that have
- 6:02been haunting him that he's seen on the job.
- 6:06Get some help bro. That's all I can say.
- 6:10And hopefully, I mean hopefully, Qps are actually supporting,
- 6:17like I said, not to try and brush it under the carpet,
- 6:21ridiculous thing to do, absolutely ridiculous.
- 6:25But to me it's an obvious. It's just seems like a massive
- 6:27cry for help and hopefully Qps are not going to let you down.
- 6:32And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be disciplined.
- 6:36I'm not saying you shouldn't go through the the core process or
- 6:39anything like that. You shouldn't answer for what
- 6:41you've done. But hopefully Qps are helping
- 6:45helping you get the proper support that you need.
- 6:48You've just got to realize that you need help.
- 6:51I'm betting it's PDSD, but anyway, that's my opinion.
- 6:54Let me know what you think. Thanks for listening to the
- 6:58slippery slope.
