- 0:00Speaker 1: Tampa Bay's best music is Magic 94.9.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And welcome to a new episode of Scotty and Abby Unfiltered.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Gotta give a shout out to the fam because we
- 0:08Speaker 3: were talking about all our travel endeavors that we're gonna
- 0:10Speaker 3: take over the weekend.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Y'all came through with the recommendations in the Instagram.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, what'd you get?
- 0:15Speaker 2: I saw a lot of people telling me great pizza
- 0:16Speaker 2: spots to go to.
- 0:17Speaker 3: A lot of people telling me there's one theme that
- 0:20Speaker 3: continued to come up with everyone I talked to and
- 0:23Speaker 3: it was the one thing I looked at as I
- 0:24Speaker 3: was planning this trip that I was like, there's no
- 0:26Speaker 3: way we're doing this.
- 0:27Speaker 2: And now I regret not doing it. The architecture tour.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Everyone says the architecture tour. I was going to say
- 0:31Speaker 1: the same thing. Even I was going to recommend it
- 0:33Speaker 1: to you, but I didn't say anything because every time
- 0:37Speaker 1: you bring up Chicago, people are like, you have to
- 0:38Speaker 1: do the architecture tour. Then I'm like, somebody's definitely told
- 0:40Speaker 1: them this already.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't understand how good it could be.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I've never done it. Just every time I go to Chicago,
- 0:47Speaker 1: people are like, you have to do the architecture tour.
- 0:49Speaker 1: And to be fair, Chicago is such a beautiful city
- 0:53Speaker 1: that it makes sense. And I'm like, I'm walking around.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I'm looking at the architecture. It looks great.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah. But it's just what's so weird is, you know,
- 0:59Speaker 3: I was looking at it as I was planning the
- 1:01Speaker 3: trip and I even thought to myself, I was like,
- 1:04Speaker 3: I don't want to take 90 minutes to go out
- 1:06Speaker 3: and be on a boat and be stuck when I
- 1:07Speaker 3: could be walking the city. Yeah. And then we saw
- 1:10Speaker 3: friends that were visiting the city at the same time
- 1:12Speaker 3: was the first thing that they said. Everybody that we
- 1:15Speaker 3: interacted with in Chicago was like, oh, you gotta do
- 1:17Speaker 3: the architecture tour. And then every one of your DMs
- 1:19Speaker 3: and the comments are saying doing it. I will say,
- 1:21Speaker 3: we did not do that.
- 1:22Speaker 1: You didn't?
- 1:23Speaker 2: No, we just didn't have time.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And honestly, I'm very grateful that we'll save that.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Because that was one of the things I had to
- 1:28Speaker 2: think of on the trip. I was like, oh, look.
- 1:29Speaker 2: We got 36 hours here. We could always come back.
- 1:33Speaker 3: You know, we don't have to do everything in one
- 1:36Speaker 3: trip because what ends up happening is you get so
- 1:38Speaker 3: burnt out.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You're just walking around exhausted, feet hurt, back hurts. You're like,
- 1:43Speaker 2: great trip.
- 1:44Speaker 3: No, I'd rather us do the couple things, have a
- 1:47Speaker 3: great experience, and... We'll make another trip out of it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: And the next time we go, and I definitely see
- 1:52Speaker 3: all your comments, like we'll go do the architecture tour
- 1:54Speaker 3: because from what you've said, what the comments have said
- 1:57Speaker 3: is it sounds incredible.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I don't put that past you one bit. We just
- 2:00Speaker 2: didn't have enough time for it this time.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And I think it's BYOB. So it's sort of like a,
- 2:04Speaker 1: a cocktail situation too, where you can like maybe go
- 2:07Speaker 1: before dinner. So I still haven't done it. I've been
- 2:09Speaker 1: to Chicago two or three times, I think twice. And
- 2:12Speaker 1: I still, every time I go, I.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Forget to do it.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's the next time. It was a, crazy trip though.
- 2:16Speaker 3: And I will say like, just to kind of just
- 2:18Speaker 3: tease it a little bit is, you know, I should
- 2:21Speaker 3: have been arrested like within the first 30 minutes we
- 2:23Speaker 3: were in Chicago. Like I'll probably be banned from using
- 2:26Speaker 3: a rental car. Look, here's the deal. I tried to
- 2:29Speaker 3: make this trip as flawless as possible. So I booked everything.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I got the hotel, I got a rental car situation.
- 2:35Speaker 3: So we don't have to worry about Ubers. And you know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: I had a nice hotel. I stayed in the nicest
- 2:39Speaker 3: hotel I've ever stayed in. But as I got this
- 2:43Speaker 3: rental car, Usually, it takes you a couple minutes to
- 2:47Speaker 3: get used to the drive. We get in, and we
- 2:49Speaker 3: get in this, like, Chevy... Well, it's like a Chevy Blazer,
- 2:51Speaker 3: so it's like an SUV. But it's newer, and it
- 2:53Speaker 3: has a weird braking system. Like, the brake is just...
- 2:57Speaker 3: It's kind of sensitive. Like, if I lift my foot, like, just, like,
- 3:00Speaker 3: a millimeter, the car moves forward. Which, maybe because I
- 3:03Speaker 3: drive an older car now, that it's not like that. Like,
- 3:06Speaker 3: I could move my foot around, and the car's not
- 3:08Speaker 3: gonna move anywhere.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's locked in there.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not used to these brakes.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well, we get in this car, and... Right away, I
- 3:15Speaker 3: realized that this car is super sensitive. It's all over
- 3:17Speaker 3: the place. And Chicago traffic is nuts.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Why didn't you guys just Uber? Or take the train in?
- 3:23Speaker 2: We could have done the train.
- 3:24Speaker 3: It would have taken, in my head as I was
- 3:26Speaker 3: planning this, I didn't anticipate the Chicago traffic to be
- 3:29Speaker 3: what it was. But I'm also glad I drove because
- 3:32Speaker 3: an Uber probably would have been, I don't know, double
- 3:35Speaker 3: the price. If I would have Ubered there, then Ubered
- 3:37Speaker 3: back that night. So we get this rental car and
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'm driving in the traffic and But I'm also checking
- 3:43Speaker 3: out the car. I'm looking around because I'm in, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 3: in the podcast, I'm looking for new cars now. So
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'm just trying to see the features that I like
- 3:49Speaker 3: and I don't like. Yeah. I'm looking down at the
- 3:52Speaker 3: side of the little door here to see like the
- 3:55Speaker 3: cargo space that they.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Have, the storage. And all of a sudden, Brianna is
- 3:59Speaker 2: doing her makeup as we're about to go meet French.
- 4:00Speaker 2: She's like, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe. I hit the
- 4:04Speaker 2: car in front of me.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I had my foot on the brake, but I guess
- 4:08Speaker 3: as I was looking around. I guess I moved my
- 4:11Speaker 3: foot just slightly. So I was rolling forward in traffic
- 4:14Speaker 3: as we're stopped at a light, like two miles an hour.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And as soon as Brianna was like, babe, stop, I stopped.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And I was like, Oh, I'm good.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I'm good. She's like, you hit the car. I see
- 4:27Speaker 3: the car in front of us going to park. The
- 4:30Speaker 3: door opens up and the guy starts walking at me.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I'm like, Oh my God.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Like we're literally 15 minutes in this trip. And I
- 4:37Speaker 2: get out of the car.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'm like, please, Lord, Don't let there be any damage
- 4:41Speaker 3: because I don't even know how that works when you
- 4:43Speaker 3: get a rental car and you get it in an accident.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you get insurance? No. So.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 1: It wouldn't have been good.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Well, I walked out of the car. We both looked
- 4:51Speaker 3: at it. There's no damage whatsoever.
- 4:54Speaker 2: He looks at me. He's like, you know what? It's fine.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I give him the handshake. And I said, thank you
- 5:00Speaker 3: so much, because that would have ruined the entire trip.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Oh, so where's the arrested part?
- 5:05Speaker 2: He could have easily called the police. He did not.
- 5:07Speaker 1: But that's, you don't get arrested when you hit somebody.
- 5:10Speaker 2: And call your insurance.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It would have been a police ticketing situation. And I
- 5:14Speaker 3: don't know the situation in Chicago, how they handle that.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I know in Florida, it's like a no fault state.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I don't know how that would have unfolded in Chicago.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I don't think I would have been arrested, but police
- 5:21Speaker 3: would have definitely been involved. Like we would have, he
- 5:23Speaker 3: could have done the thing where it's like, all right,
- 5:25Speaker 3: pull over. We're going to call the police. We're going
- 5:26Speaker 3: to report an incident. I'm going to have to call
- 5:28Speaker 3: the rental company. I'm going to have to put it
- 5:29Speaker 3: on my insurance. It would have been a whole mess.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But because it was like, just thankfully like two miles
- 5:34Speaker 3: an hour. And lightly tapped him. I didn't even know
- 5:36Speaker 3: I hit him. Brianna told me I hit him. And
- 5:38Speaker 3: then he got out of the car. I was like,
- 5:40Speaker 3: thank God.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Gave him the handshake. He went on his way.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And for the rest of the trip, I was like
- 5:44Speaker 3: just on the edge of my seat everywhere we went.
- 5:47Speaker 3: But that was honestly the only time I was in
- 5:49Speaker 3: the car. We got into the hotel and then we
- 5:50Speaker 3: just walked the entire city.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I don't understand why you just didn't Uber.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I thought, well, again, planning it, I thought we would have.
- 5:56Speaker 3: drove around Chicago more and it just would have given
- 5:59Speaker 3: us the access to.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah. So that part was like in the back of
- 6:02Speaker 2: my head.
- 6:02Speaker 3: There was just a couple of things I learned, but
- 6:04Speaker 3: with that traffic, it took an hour and a half
- 6:06Speaker 3: to get to downtown Chicago.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I know it's the worst.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Ubering would have cost at least probably 60 to $ 80
- 6:13Speaker 3: just for that one trip.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You got to train, you got to train it next time. Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I don't like, I like being in charge of my
- 6:18Speaker 3: own destiny when I'm not hitting other cars.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 3: But from that moment, then it became one of the
- 6:23Speaker 3: best trips ever. and i have plenty of stories from
- 6:25Speaker 3: that trip but i also want to hear about miami.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Because no i want to hear about chicago.
- 6:29Speaker 2: You think chicago's but not better than miami.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah because i i'm telling you i have like this
- 6:33Speaker 1: miami curse on me every time i go to miami
- 6:35Speaker 1: it's just like the most tame trip of all time
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's like me and bachelorette parties every time i go
- 6:40Speaker 1: on a bachelorette party we're like home by 11. I
- 6:42Speaker 1: think it's because all my friends are in relationships. They're like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: what are we doing now? Let's go home.
- 6:46Speaker 3: We were talking about that a lot this weekend. It's
- 6:48Speaker 3: nice to just hang out with the people that you
- 6:49Speaker 3: actually want to talk to. Oh, yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And be able to hear them. So I could understand that.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, me and my friend, Virginia, I went to go
- 6:55Speaker 1: visit her in Miami. She's a dentist there. And she
- 6:57Speaker 1: got us tickets to some Miami Beach daytime-ish. It was
- 7:01Speaker 1: like a 6 p.m. party. So not quite a danger.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And we were standing around and it's just house music.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's house music and it's a DJ and it's all
- 7:10Speaker 1: these people like half our age. I remember just looking
- 7:13Speaker 1: at her and going, do you want to leave? And
- 7:14Speaker 1: she was like, yeah. And I was like, let's go.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So we left, I mean, an hour and a half,
- 7:18Speaker 1: two hours into the party. And we sat down on
- 7:20Speaker 1: the couch. And I'm like, if we don't get up immediately,
- 7:24Speaker 1: both of us are going to fade. So, I mean,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I've been in Miami for three hours at this point.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'm like, we need to go do something. Like, let's
- 7:30Speaker 1: just go get dinner somewhere. Let's go sit somewhere. And
- 7:33Speaker 1: I mean, maybe the most dramatic thing that happened on
- 7:35Speaker 1: this trip was she had a friend that was considering
- 7:38Speaker 1: meeting us out, which I would have been fine with. Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But this friend lives in Fort Lauderdale, which Fort Lauderdale
- 7:43Speaker 1: is like an hour and a half away from Miami.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And the friend wanted to meet us for dinner at 10.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And I'm looking at the clock. It's like 7 p.m.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'm like, if we don't do something, both of us
- 7:53Speaker 1: are going to be passed out. And so I said,
- 7:55Speaker 1: why don't you just give her a call and just
- 7:57Speaker 1: say we'll catch her for brunch or something. Like, I
- 7:59Speaker 1: don't know what we're going to do for three hours.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So she was like, yeah, let me call her and
- 8:03Speaker 1: let me tell her that we're going to meet her
- 8:05Speaker 1: at another point. Or like, we'll just catch her on
- 8:07Speaker 1: the next one. And she calls her friend. and she goes, hey,
- 8:12Speaker 1: do you want to meet us for dinner at 10?
- 8:13Speaker 1: We've got a reservation at Carbone. I felt like the coach,
- 8:16Speaker 1: and I'm like, that's not what we.
- 8:18Speaker 2: That's not the play we designed.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's not the play we designed, and so I'm looking
- 8:21Speaker 1: at her. I'm like, trying to figure out what her
- 8:22Speaker 1: plan is, and I'm like, no. I'm like, cut the cameras.
- 8:26Speaker 1: What are you doing? And she goes, yeah, I've got
- 8:27Speaker 1: a reservation for four right here for Carbone.
- 8:29Speaker 2: What is happening?
- 8:30Speaker 1: So anyway, she hangs up the phone, and I was like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: what was that? And she goes, she didn't get the hint.
- 8:36Speaker 1: She thinks that we want her to come to dinner.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm like.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Cause you invited her to dinner at 10 PM. And
- 8:42Speaker 1: I said, listen, I'm sure she's a great gal, but
- 8:47Speaker 1: we can't wait until 10. Like we're both going to
- 8:49Speaker 1: be falling. If we're going to go to Carbone, if
- 8:51Speaker 1: you've never heard of Carbone, Carbone is like this really
- 8:55Speaker 1: upscale Italian restaurant in New York. It's now in Miami.
- 8:58Speaker 1: They have one in Dallas and it is impossible to
- 9:01Speaker 1: get a reservation. I have never eaten here because again,
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's impossible to get a reservation and And so I'm like,
- 9:07Speaker 1: I think if we show up early, if it's just
- 9:09Speaker 1: us two, we can probably get in around 8, 830.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And the thought of like having to wait until 10
- 9:15Speaker 1: while we're both kind of drunk from this danger that
- 9:17Speaker 1: was a bust. I've been driving all day. Also, candidly,
- 9:20Speaker 1: like this is my best friend. I haven't seen her
- 9:22Speaker 1: in a while. And so I said, I don't care
- 9:24Speaker 1: if you have to blame me. Call her up. Tell
- 9:25Speaker 1: her like we we we're going we're going to Carbone
- 9:28Speaker 1: right now. And if she wants to meet us there
- 9:30Speaker 1: when we're at Carbone, that's totally fine. But like we
- 9:32Speaker 1: need to go now. We're going to fall asleep on
- 9:34Speaker 1: this couch. Like me and her are both horizontal eating cheese.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's blankets over our head. I'm like, we got to
- 9:38Speaker 1: get up. We're too young for this.
- 9:39Speaker 2: You know yourselves at this point.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So she calls her, and I feel so bad while
- 9:43Speaker 1: she's doing it. I'm like, just say I don't want
- 9:44Speaker 1: to get charged because you have to put a credit
- 9:46Speaker 1: card down for these reservations. And if I have to
- 9:48Speaker 1: cancel this reservation, I'm going to get charged. I'm like,
- 9:49Speaker 1: just tell her I don't want to get charged this
- 9:50Speaker 1: kind of money. So she tells her that, cancels, and
- 9:53Speaker 1: we end up going. Carbone was great, by the way.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Highly recommend. Not overrated. And I felt so bad because
- 9:58Speaker 1: I think her feelings were really, really hurtful. hurt.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Your friends or the other friend?
- 10:02Speaker 1: The other friend. It's one of those things where I
- 10:04Speaker 1: think in your head, you think it's going to be
- 10:06Speaker 1: a bigger deal than it is if you cancel on
- 10:08Speaker 1: this friend. But I'm like, the context is very reasonable.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Like I'm visiting you. I'm here for 24 hours. We're starving.
- 10:16Speaker 1: We're a little drunk from this danger. She's going to
- 10:18Speaker 1: be fine. It's the perfect example of sometimes you just
- 10:20Speaker 1: have to give full context because people are reasonable when
- 10:24Speaker 1: you give context and you explain your position. But if
- 10:27Speaker 1: you like if we're trying to give somebody a hint,
- 10:30Speaker 1: we're just going to create more more conflict than needed.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Like what is it like beating around the bush? Like just.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Be straight up.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Just be direct. Just be like, listen, we've been drinking
- 10:39Speaker 1: all day. We're starving. Can we get brunch tomorrow? And
- 10:41Speaker 1: she would have been fine.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Oh, well.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And now I feel bad. I'm like, not great. Now
- 10:44Speaker 1: I look like this massive bitch who didn't want this
- 10:47Speaker 1: girl to come to dinner. I'm like, no, I was
- 10:49Speaker 1: just starving and wanted spicy rigatoni immediately.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Good on you, though, because then you have to voice
- 10:53Speaker 3: it because then you get put in the position of a, okay,
- 10:56Speaker 3: we have to look at the situation for what it is.
- 10:58Speaker 3: We're going to wait three hours. Even though I'm sure
- 11:01Speaker 3: in your mind, I would have gone back and forth
- 11:03Speaker 3: in my head. I'd have been like, if I make
- 11:05Speaker 3: a fuss about this, I look bad. But I just
- 11:07Speaker 3: know the situation. If we wait three hours, we're not
- 11:09Speaker 3: going to make it. We're going to regret that even more.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I have to say something.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yes, because I'm the trip planner friend. I know how
- 11:14Speaker 1: things are. I feel like I'm a little clairvoyant. I
- 11:17Speaker 1: know how things are going to go. And also, that
- 11:19Speaker 1: wasn't the game plan we agreed on. So now I
- 11:21Speaker 1: feel betrayed. And it's fine. Me and my best friend
- 11:23Speaker 1: talked it out. Me and her have great... great great
- 11:26Speaker 1: conflict management to where she's like yeah I shouldn't have
- 11:28Speaker 1: done that and I was like yeah and then we
- 11:29Speaker 1: went to dinner it was great but there was a
- 11:31Speaker 1: moment where I woke up the next morning after everything
- 11:34Speaker 1: happened and I found out that she was upset I
- 11:36Speaker 1: was like I can't decide if I'm not the I
- 11:43Speaker 1: thought I was being good and being direct but I'm
- 11:45Speaker 1: like would a better person have just caved and waited
- 11:48Speaker 1: the extra couple of hours for her to have dinner
- 11:51Speaker 1: with us like I can't decide whether I'm like not
- 11:55Speaker 1: nice enough of a person to make that leeway. Or
- 11:59Speaker 1: if I was in the right for being direct.
- 12:01Speaker 2: No, I don't think so.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Cause it's, if it was something that was already planned,
- 12:05Speaker 3: if it was like, okay, you're coming into town. Also
- 12:07Speaker 3: got a best friend. We're going to do dinner at 10.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And then you get to that time. You're like, actually,
- 12:11Speaker 3: let's move it up and let's cancel. That's, that's a
- 12:13Speaker 3: dick move.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 2: That would be throwing somebody... But the call just happened.
- 12:17Speaker 1: They were all, like, last... We were, like, maybe going
- 12:19Speaker 1: to meet her for dinner. I don't know what conversations
- 12:21Speaker 1: they were having, so I really don't even know what
- 12:22Speaker 1: the context for their relationship is. All I knew was
- 12:26Speaker 1: we left the danger, and I'm sitting there, and, like,
- 12:29Speaker 1: we got to eat. We got to... I've been here
- 12:31Speaker 1: for two hours. I'm in Miami for a day. Let's
- 12:33Speaker 1: go do something, and if we sit here, I know
- 12:36Speaker 1: I'm going to fall asleep. I know you're going to
- 12:38Speaker 1: fall asleep, and then she's going to drive down, and then, yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 1: It's just not even going to be worth it. Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I think that's just being... It's looking at the situation
- 12:44Speaker 1: and seeing it for what it is.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Like you have to have those realistic glasses on because
- 12:48Speaker 3: we had the same thing in Chicago. We went out
- 12:49Speaker 3: to a concert on Friday and there's an awesome venue
- 12:53Speaker 3: called the Salt Shed, which is so funky.
- 12:55Speaker 2: They have an outdoor venue and an indoor venue.
- 12:58Speaker 3: And we're at this concert and we met up with
- 13:01Speaker 3: Brianna's friends right before that just happened to be in
- 13:03Speaker 3: Chicago at the same time. It was a weird overlap
- 13:06Speaker 3: of the universe. And she hasn't seen this friend in
- 13:08Speaker 3: probably a year and a half, two years. And so
- 13:11Speaker 3: we're doing a quick catch up at the hotel bar.
- 13:13Speaker 3: for maybe 30 minutes. And in that conversation, we're like, look,
- 13:16Speaker 3: like y'all are going to a hockey game. We're going
- 13:17Speaker 3: to a concert. Let's meet up after that. We're both
- 13:21Speaker 3: going to be vibing.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so fun.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Well, we go out to the concert. I mean, again,
- 13:25Speaker 2: we're having some drinks. They're having some drinks.
- 13:27Speaker 3: We get in the Uber and we're automatically like, there
- 13:31Speaker 3: is no way we are going back out. We have
- 13:34Speaker 3: had drinks. It's now 1130. We got to call it
- 13:37Speaker 3: how we see it. And so the friend messaged over.
- 13:39Speaker 3: They're like, hey, like we're over at this Irish bar.
- 13:42Speaker 3: And I give so much credit to Brianna because she
- 13:44Speaker 3: did exactly that. She's like, I can't. I will fall
- 13:47Speaker 3: asleep at the bar. I'm like, well, then that's okay. Like,
- 13:50Speaker 3: I'm right there with you. I love an inside night.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I'm tired.
- 13:53Speaker 3: I want to get in my bed because part of
- 13:54Speaker 3: the vacation, too, is also knowing that it's okay to relax.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And being able to just be like, hey, no hard feelings.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It's just we're not going to make it happen. I
- 14:01Speaker 2: love you. I want to see you. We'll just have
- 14:04Speaker 2: to make it happen another time.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Well, also, were you going to see them the next day?
- 14:07Speaker 3: No, not the next day because they were flying out earlier.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So it would have been a thing of like, should we? Yes.
- 14:13Speaker 2: But in the same thought, no, because it wouldn't have
- 14:15Speaker 2: been as enjoyable as it should have been.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Because like once that alcohol hits and. Oh. The
- 14:21Speaker 1: melatonin starts rushing through your veins. It is torture trying
- 14:25Speaker 1: to stay awake.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Like that. That's why there are some nights where I
- 14:28Speaker 1: know I can't drink wine because I'm like, I know
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm going to be drinking or I'm going to be
- 14:31Speaker 1: up for a while. And I know that if I
- 14:33Speaker 1: have wine, I'm going to be sitting in an Uber
- 14:36Speaker 1: somewhere about to pass out.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Yeah. That's why it's like you got to just know
- 14:39Speaker 3: when to call it. And I love that part about
- 14:40Speaker 3: this age now. Because like, I mean, we still, you know,
- 14:43Speaker 3: go back and forth. We still sometimes think we could
- 14:45Speaker 3: push it too far.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Then that's when the regretful things happen. You're like, all right,
- 14:49Speaker 3: we went too hard. But it's a cool moment when
- 14:51Speaker 3: we looked at each other. We're like, let's just go
- 14:53Speaker 3: back to the hotel. Like, let's just go back and enjoy.
- 14:56Speaker 3: We've got a beautiful bed waiting for us. Like, that's
- 14:58Speaker 3: part of the stay as well. So knowing when to
- 15:00Speaker 3: call it, I give you a lot of kudos for saying,
- 15:02Speaker 3: you know what?
- 15:03Speaker 2: That's too much.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Sometimes you got to know when to call it. And
- 15:05Speaker 1: it was great because my therapist also wanted me to
- 15:07Speaker 1: have these deep conversations with my brother. I mean, this
- 15:10Speaker 1: is the friend I've known and been friends with the longest.
- 15:13Speaker 1: We've been friends for a little over 11 years. I
- 15:15Speaker 1: met her freshman year of college. She was in my sorority.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And we both bonded over the fact that we didn't
- 15:20Speaker 1: get into the same house that we both thought we
- 15:22Speaker 1: wanted to be in.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Which, in hindsight, we would have never fit in in
- 15:25Speaker 1: that house. Or maybe we would have. I don't know.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 15:27Speaker 1: But that's how we met. And my therapist wanted me
- 15:30Speaker 1: to ask her two different questions, which I felt like
- 15:32Speaker 1: were very backhanded. When my therapist asked me to ask
- 15:37Speaker 1: her these questions, I was like, are you trying to communicate?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Are you being passive aggressive with me right now? She
- 15:42Speaker 1: wanted me to ask her, am I easy to be
- 15:44Speaker 1: friends with? And what kind of friend am I?
- 15:46Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:49Speaker 3: The first one's tough because I don't know if that ever,
- 15:51Speaker 3: is there any good answer? No.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Like, am I easy to be friends with? Like, I
- 15:55Speaker 1: don't know. Veronica, like what do you answer to? Like,
- 15:59Speaker 1: it seems like there could have been a better way
- 16:00Speaker 1: to ask that. Like, I think what kind of friend
- 16:04Speaker 1: am I is maybe a, less passive aggressive way to
- 16:07Speaker 1: ask that question.
- 16:07Speaker 2: That's a good one because you can hear about the
- 16:08Speaker 2: qualities but not am i a good i'm not.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Gonna lie i was a little nervous to ask her
- 16:11Speaker 1: i was like i don't know is does veronica think
- 16:13Speaker 1: i'm like hard to be friends with because we were
- 16:15Speaker 1: talking about a lot of my friendship breakups and i've
- 16:18Speaker 1: been through some things where i really feel like i
- 16:20Speaker 1: did my best to save those relationships i'm not saying
- 16:24Speaker 1: i've ever been nobody is perfect like i've not been
- 16:28Speaker 1: um flawless and any conflict or my relationships. But I
- 16:31Speaker 1: think the one thing that I, on a lot of things,
- 16:35Speaker 1: malicious is not one. And, um, I always feel like
- 16:41Speaker 1: I try to go to the max in terms of
- 16:43Speaker 1: making sure that like, I've kept my side of the
- 16:46Speaker 1: street clean. And if there's still bitterness or if there's
- 16:51Speaker 1: if it's not reciprocated, like if I don't feel like
- 16:53Speaker 1: there's mutual respect in a relationship, then I'm like, that's
- 16:55Speaker 1: not a friendship that I'm going to continue. And then
- 16:57Speaker 1: this is just the end.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And so when I, my therapist asked me to ask
- 17:01Speaker 1: her that question, I was like, Veronica, like I really
- 17:04Speaker 1: tried very hard to be an easy friend. Um, and
- 17:07Speaker 1: so I asked my best friend, Virginia, that I was like, okay,
- 17:09Speaker 1: these are the two questions. Like, please be nice about it.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And I said, am I easy to be friends with?
- 17:14Speaker 1: And she immediately goes, oh my God.
- 17:16Speaker 2: The easiest.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, thank you for answering so
- 17:19Speaker 1: quickly because I was worried you were going to hesitate.
- 17:21Speaker 2: So anxious for the answer that's about to be returned.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And she just described exactly like how I explained our relationship.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Like we've been friends for 11 years. There have been
- 17:31Speaker 1: seasons where we don't really talk all the time. And
- 17:33Speaker 1: every now and then we'll be like, oh, my God,
- 17:34Speaker 1: did you see that girl got engaged? And we'll like
- 17:35Speaker 1: talk shit about that. And then we're back. Or, hey,
- 17:37Speaker 1: it's been a year since I've seen you. Can I
- 17:39Speaker 1: come visit? And it's just like we hit the ground running.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Easy to catch up.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And we've been I've seen so many different versions of her.
- 17:45Speaker 1: She's seen so many different versions of me. That we've
- 17:48Speaker 1: been able to sustain this friendship, that I know we
- 17:51Speaker 1: have so much care for each other because no matter
- 17:54Speaker 1: what phase of life we're in, we've always just stuck
- 17:57Speaker 1: by each other. And I just so appreciate that about her,
- 18:01Speaker 1: that we can just have a good time in any scenario.
- 18:03Speaker 1: She's the easiest person to hang out with. And then
- 18:06Speaker 1: I asked her, the other question was, what kind of
- 18:09Speaker 1: friend am I? Which I got nervous about too. I
- 18:10Speaker 1: was like, okay, I'm glad that I'm easy, but then
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm like, I feel like this is a little bit
- 18:13Speaker 1: more descriptive. And the interesting thing that she said about
- 18:17Speaker 1: me as a friend to her. She said, I'm very validating,
- 18:19Speaker 1: which I appreciated because I think that's important. Like with
- 18:22Speaker 1: your friends, a part of being a woman is sometimes
- 18:25Speaker 1: you vocalize things verbally to process them. And sometimes when
- 18:30Speaker 1: you know your friend is capable and you know your
- 18:32Speaker 1: friend is like a, like a good human, you don't
- 18:34Speaker 1: need to fix things for them. Like if she's going
- 18:35Speaker 1: through something, I don't, I can't fix her. Like that's her.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Like she's got to do whatever she can to make
- 18:40Speaker 1: her life the way that she wants it to be.
- 18:41Speaker 1: So sometimes like when people process things verbally with you,
- 18:44Speaker 1: you just have to validate them. And just be like, yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 1: that girl was a bitch. That girl was a bitch.
- 18:49Speaker 1: You did the best that you could.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's one of the hardest lessons, especially as like a
- 18:52Speaker 2: dude to learn.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Because we are so like in the fixing mindset of
- 18:56Speaker 3: you're going to tell me what's going on.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I'm going to fix it. Rah, rah, hoorah.
- 19:00Speaker 3: And to learn to just listen and just hear somebody through.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And you know that at the end of the day,
- 19:04Speaker 3: they're going to do what they want to do.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And being there to validate what they want. go ahead.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I see you. I support you. I'll be here with
- 19:11Speaker 2: you through the entire course of it.
- 19:13Speaker 1: It's your life. You're an autonomous human being. So just like, please,
- 19:17Speaker 1: by all means, shit, talk to me. I want to hear,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I want to hear what's going on. But like I,
- 19:20Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like I can't make
- 19:22Speaker 1: you do anything. Like I can give you my opinion
- 19:24Speaker 1: and I'll be nice about the opinion. Just like with
- 19:26Speaker 1: the weird back and forth we had with the friend
- 19:28Speaker 1: where she was like, I'm anxious about it. I'm like, listen,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I would be so anxious about it too, but I'm
- 19:33Speaker 1: here to tell you as like an outsider, it's going
- 19:35Speaker 1: to be fine. You just have to call her, just
- 19:36Speaker 1: give her a call and just be like, Hey, this
- 19:39Speaker 1: is what happened and it's gonna be fine that's.
- 19:41Speaker 3: A great quality of a friend to just put it
- 19:42Speaker 3: back in the guardrails because I think a lot of
- 19:44Speaker 3: us deal with those thoughts but we don't express it
- 19:46Speaker 3: and then on the other end of it we need
- 19:47Speaker 3: somebody to say wait a second let's from the outside
- 19:50Speaker 3: looking in now you're blowing it up way out of proportion.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Like there's no, I think when, when you get into
- 19:55Speaker 1: an anxious thought spiral too, it's a lot of shame. Like,
- 19:58Speaker 1: Oh my God, there must be something wrong with me
- 20:00Speaker 1: if I made this decision. And it's like, sometimes like, I,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I think from her standpoint, she got really anxious about
- 20:07Speaker 1: how her friend was going to react to us canceling plans.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And so the lens she's viewing life through is if
- 20:13Speaker 1: I don't like, I need her to cancel on me.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I don't look like a bad guy. Whereas sometimes again,
- 20:17Speaker 1: like I said, sometimes when you try and avoid just
- 20:20Speaker 1: being direct, not that you become the bad guy, but
- 20:22Speaker 1: it's very much easier for you to look like, the
- 20:26Speaker 1: bad guy in the end because now what we wanted
- 20:29Speaker 1: to happen didn't happen.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Like people rather you just be honest about it.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And that's where you could call yourself out. Like, I
- 20:33Speaker 3: thought this was a good idea. I didn't think it,
- 20:35Speaker 3: you know, I, I overshot what I thought was going.
- 20:38Speaker 2: To be able to be done. That's on me. And
- 20:40Speaker 2: just being able to call yourself out for it.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I actually really think that's a, a powerful conversation and
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm glad you actually had it because I know we
- 20:47Speaker 3: talked about it last week.
- 20:48Speaker 2: That's a big ask.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I know.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Let's go on.
- 20:50Speaker 3: We have 24 hours, but let's make sure some of
- 20:52Speaker 3: it deals with some deep stuff here.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I got to call my other friend Taylor today and
- 20:56Speaker 1: ask her, too. Because I left her on such a cliffhanger.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I was like, listen, Veronica wants me to ask you
- 20:59Speaker 1: two questions. And she's like, oh, God. So she calls
- 21:01Speaker 1: me as my friend Tori is coming. um, to pick
- 21:04Speaker 1: me up for, we went to sushi on Thursday and
- 21:07Speaker 1: I was like, Oh my God, I'm gonna have to
- 21:08Speaker 1: call you back. And she goes, well, this guy that
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm dating is flying in. So I'm not gonna be
- 21:11Speaker 1: able to talk to you until the end of the weekend.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So she's just on the edge of her seat waiting.
- 21:14Speaker 1: For these questions, which I'm so excited for my friend
- 21:16Speaker 1: Taylor because she's, she's in the same boat as me. We're,
- 21:19Speaker 1: we're both in our late twenties, early thirties. And we're
- 21:21Speaker 1: just like, where the fuck are all the good men?
- 21:24Speaker 1: And I think she's found somebody really great. And I'm
- 21:27Speaker 1: dying to know. I think it's going well. I was
- 21:29Speaker 1: just kind of checking in with her over the weekend.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I was like, I'm on the edge of my seat.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Like what's going on? And he's a former Rays player. Like,
- 21:35Speaker 1: he's like a, I know.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 21:37Speaker 1: He doesn't live where she lives. And they met through
- 21:40Speaker 1: mutual friends. And I think it went really well.
- 21:42Speaker 3: That's awesome. What's just kind of funny about it is
- 21:44Speaker 3: those things do just happen randomly.
- 21:46Speaker 2: You're like, none, none, none, none.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Oh, hey.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And then it's just to the moon.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Love is back, baby.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Love is back. You got to believe in it some way.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Love is back.
- 21:54Speaker 3: So we went over the weekend. So I think I
- 21:57Speaker 3: talked about this on the podcast. But one of the
- 21:58Speaker 3: things that I wanted to do on this experience is
- 22:01Speaker 3: I wanted to go and stay at a really nice hotel.
- 22:03Speaker 3: So we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. I wanted
- 22:06Speaker 3: to be bougie as hell. And for the podcast fam,
- 22:09Speaker 3: this is all help because of a credit card. What
- 22:11Speaker 3: credit card did you get?
- 22:13Speaker 1: Wait, no free ads.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no free ads. But one that gets all
- 22:15Speaker 2: the points.
- 22:17Speaker 3: I've had these points for a while and this started,
- 22:19Speaker 3: maybe we talked about this on the podcast, but I
- 22:21Speaker 3: got this credit card because I wanted to eventually go
- 22:24Speaker 3: first class on an Emirates flight.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I wanted to see what that was like.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I decided over the past couple months, I was like...
- 22:32Speaker 3: I could do something way cooler for longer than go
- 22:36Speaker 3: on a flight for a couple hours.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 3: So let me use these points toward the Chicago trip,
- 22:41Speaker 3: and that's where we did. So we ended up staying
- 22:42Speaker 3: at the Ritz-Carlton. I was blown away from what this
- 22:45Speaker 3: stay was like because.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I know a good hotel.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Which Ritz-Carlton was it? Just Ritz-Carlton, downtown Chicago?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Ritz-Carlton, Chicago.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Downtown Chicago.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And here's what I found so funny is because, like,
- 22:55Speaker 3: I'm not a bougie guy.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I don't do a lot of fancy things. And so
- 22:58Speaker 2: when something goes above and beyond.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Oh, swanky.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Oh, it's swanky. It was nice.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I was blown away from the very beginning that they
- 23:05Speaker 3: just had a doorman. So already we're off to the
- 23:08Speaker 3: ground running because we go in there. They greet us
- 23:12Speaker 3: at the door. They welcome us in. But here's where
- 23:14Speaker 3: I started cracking myself up. If you're like me and
- 23:16Speaker 3: you're just like, I'm not used to the fancy stuff.
- 23:19Speaker 3: That first night I decided to get like room service
- 23:21Speaker 3: because we were getting ready to go to the show.
- 23:22Speaker 3: We didn't have time to go to a dinner and
- 23:25Speaker 3: I ordered room service and I've done this one other
- 23:27Speaker 3: time and I did it on a cruise and they
- 23:29Speaker 3: just bring it to your room. That's fine on a
- 23:31Speaker 3: plate and they just put it on your little bedside
- 23:33Speaker 3: table and they're like, enjoy.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I opened the door.
- 23:37Speaker 3: And they have this whole ass table that they wheel
- 23:39Speaker 3: into the room.
- 23:41Speaker 2: They got the tablecloth.
- 23:42Speaker 3: They got seven different condiments and these mini bottles that
- 23:45Speaker 3: you could use. The guy walks all the way into
- 23:47Speaker 3: the room, uncovers it, lays the napkin over my lap,
- 23:50Speaker 3: pours me a glass of wine, and I'm sitting there.
- 23:53Speaker 3: It looks like I'm at a five-star restaurant in the
- 23:56Speaker 3: middle of my hotel.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Room having this dinner.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Oh, that's so nice.
- 23:59Speaker 3: It was one of the greatest experiences, just that alone.
- 24:02Speaker 3: But then I tried to get something that was reasonably priced.
- 24:05Speaker 3: It was like a grilled chicken sandwich. I kid you not,
- 24:08Speaker 3: probably the greatest grilled chicken sandwich I've ever had.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Oh, heck yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 2: And I don't say that because it was like a
- 24:12Speaker 2: nice hotel. It tasted so good.
- 24:16Speaker 3: It blew me away that I almost didn't want to
- 24:17Speaker 3: go to any other restaurants because I was like, they
- 24:19Speaker 3: have this much good food here and it's right up
- 24:22Speaker 3: the hall.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah. This is incredible.
- 24:24Speaker 3: But that is an experience that I will always see.
- 24:27Speaker 3: This is what happened when I got to do first
- 24:29Speaker 3: class for the first time on a flight. Now I'm
- 24:31Speaker 3: chasing that. Now I'm like, what other places live up
- 24:34Speaker 3: to that and where can I make that happen next?
- 24:36Speaker 3: I don't know when because that was a very, very
- 24:38Speaker 3: pricey trip. But that experience alone was to die for.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was a birthday trip. It was. It's
- 24:44Speaker 1: the thing to do.
- 24:45Speaker 2: It really was. And it was worth every little bit
- 24:47Speaker 2: of it.
- 24:47Speaker 3: But I was cracking up as they wheel in this
- 24:49Speaker 3: whole entire table that I'm like.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Y'all going to leave this in here?
- 24:51Speaker 1: What do I do with this now?
- 24:55Speaker 3: But they come and they get it. I'm like, this
- 24:56Speaker 3: is one of the coolest experiences I have ever had.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Did you eat anywhere cool? Because I know you made
- 25:02Speaker 1: a reservation somewhere. What was the place called?
- 25:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so there's a lot of recommendations, and I love this.
- 25:07Speaker 3: They recommended Pequod's.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Pequod's?
- 25:10Speaker 3: Ah, yes.
- 25:11Speaker 2: My good friend Pequod's. It's P-E-Q-U-O-D-S. I've put it many
- 25:16Speaker 2: times in my Google.
- 25:16Speaker 1: French? I don't know.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Pizza? Pizza? I guess so I had a reservation because
- 25:21Speaker 3: I saw this place online and everyone raved about their
- 25:24Speaker 3: pizza however it's kind of like the boat situation where
- 25:28Speaker 3: I knew the day of I wouldn't have wanted to
- 25:31Speaker 3: rush somewhere so I had a reservation for like four
- 25:34Speaker 3: it was the only time that they had the day
- 25:37Speaker 3: before I cancelled it because I figured that you know
- 25:39Speaker 3: what on Saturday is going to be our day off
- 25:42Speaker 3: to just do anything we want in the city I
- 25:43Speaker 3: don't want there to be any rush Because I know
- 25:46Speaker 3: we might want to stay at a place a little longer.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Or we might want to walk on the river walk
- 25:49Speaker 3: and grab a drink. And so what I did is
- 25:51Speaker 3: I ended up canceling that and I wanted the day
- 25:53Speaker 3: to just be free flow. Where we wanted to go,
- 25:55Speaker 3: we could go right in that moment and we'll find
- 25:56Speaker 3: a way. The one that we did go to that's
- 25:58Speaker 3: very famous and so many celebrities have gone to is
- 26:02Speaker 3: the Billy Goat Tavern.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I've heard a lot about that.
- 26:04Speaker 2: That place was dope.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Really?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 26:07Speaker 1: In what way?
- 26:08Speaker 3: It was just very like... It's a touristy spot, but
- 26:11Speaker 3: it's not. Because you have to go under this bridge
- 26:13Speaker 3: to get in it. And you just feel like you're
- 26:15Speaker 3: taken back in time to like an old school... Imagine
- 26:18Speaker 3: like an old school Five Guys. Where it's like you're sitting,
- 26:22Speaker 3: watching all the people grill up these like just greasy
- 26:24Speaker 3: ass burgers. You go in, they just hand you the
- 26:26Speaker 3: burger on a piece of paper and tell you to
- 26:28Speaker 3: get on your way. But there's so many people in
- 26:30Speaker 3: line because you know it's a Chicago staple. And we
- 26:33Speaker 3: sat there. And the one thing I was disappointed in,
- 26:35Speaker 3: because when I looked online... I wanted us to have
- 26:37Speaker 3: two things. I wanted us to have a Chicago pizza
- 26:39Speaker 3: deep dish. And I wanted us to have a Chicago
- 26:40Speaker 3: hot dog. Well, this place online, the picture said it
- 26:44Speaker 3: had Chicago dogs. So we get up to the front.
- 26:46Speaker 3: I'm like, do you guys have any Chicago? They're like, no.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, okay.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Well, we just waited 15 minutes in line. We're not
- 26:51Speaker 3: turning back. And this is a staple in Chicago. So
- 26:54Speaker 3: I was like, okay, fine. They gave us a dog.
- 26:55Speaker 3: They have all the condiments. We just make our own.
- 26:58Speaker 3: But for some reason, it tasted so good. It was
- 27:01Speaker 3: just a regular. We got a double cheeseburger and a
- 27:04Speaker 3: hot dog, and it was fantastic.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Oh, yum.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Like, the bread was delicious. The burgers were cooked perfectly.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And what was so cool was, like, if you sat
- 27:12Speaker 3: down and you're just looking at these walls of all
- 27:14Speaker 3: these celebrities that have been there. And one of the
- 27:16Speaker 3: names that I saw a ton of was, like, Bill
- 27:17Speaker 3: Murray and, like, the Blues Brothers used to go there
- 27:20Speaker 3: all the time. So a lot of, like, Saturday Night
- 27:22Speaker 3: Live stars were. would just come, and I think they
- 27:25Speaker 3: did a skit once at this Billy Goat Tavern.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't know that about Chicago, that it's a
- 27:30Speaker 1: really big comedy city. Like a lot of the SNL
- 27:32Speaker 1: people go to Chicago to flex their comedy skills, and
- 27:36Speaker 1: then they go to New York.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Uh-huh. It's like back and forth, because I think there's
- 27:40Speaker 3: a couple, my buddy's really into comedies like New York, Chicago,
- 27:43Speaker 3: Austin's another big one, and Texas area, or of course L.A.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But going in there, you're just starstruck, and it's nothing
- 27:50Speaker 3: fancy about it. You're just sitting at a regular place
- 27:52Speaker 3: that has burgers and hot dogs and a bar. But
- 27:55Speaker 3: you're just brought back in time to see a place
- 27:57Speaker 3: that's been around for just decades. And some of the
- 27:59Speaker 3: biggest stars have come through. And truthfully, the food was fantastic. Cheap, fantastic,
- 28:05Speaker 3: hit the spot. But we weren't overly stuffed where we
- 28:07Speaker 3: couldn't do anything else after that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: So the first day you did the concert, what did
- 28:09Speaker 1: you do all day on Saturday? Just bop around?
- 28:11Speaker 3: So Saturday, it's exactly how I anticipated it to be.
- 28:14Speaker 3: That's why I didn't book anything. That's why I didn't
- 28:15Speaker 3: book the you know, Pequod's pizza or the boat tour.
- 28:19Speaker 3: We got up and we just enjoyed waking up because
- 28:22Speaker 3: the view that we had, we looked over at the
- 28:24Speaker 3: water of Lake Michigan through the city. So we got
- 28:27Speaker 3: to see the sunrise through the room. We slowly got
- 28:30Speaker 3: up and we made our way down to go see
- 28:32Speaker 3: the bean. So it was a couple, it was like
- 28:34Speaker 3: a mile down. But the walk to get there was amazing,
- 28:37Speaker 3: and I knew this would happen, because there's a couple
- 28:39Speaker 3: spots along the walk. The first spot, they had this
- 28:42Speaker 3: massive Harry Potter store. I saw it on the map,
- 28:46Speaker 3: but I didn't know it was gonna be this cool.
- 28:47Speaker 3: We walk inside, there's people getting sorted into the right house,
- 28:50Speaker 3: they have an automatic sorter machine. They got every bit
- 28:53Speaker 3: of merchandise that you could imagine in Harry Potter. And
- 28:55Speaker 3: I'm not a massive Potterhead, but I'm a pretty medium Potterhead.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I read all the books. I like that world. So
- 29:01Speaker 3: they had this whole bar set up where you could
- 29:03Speaker 3: get all the Butterbeer drinks, all the Butterbeer cakes, and
- 29:06Speaker 3: the coffees. So we got a nice Butterbeer coffee, and
- 29:09Speaker 3: we started walking down. They have this massive Starbucks roastery.
- 29:12Speaker 3: It's one of the biggest in the world. It's three stories.
- 29:15Speaker 3: We did not go into that. Just looked in the window.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Looked awesome, but the line was probably a mile long.
- 29:20Speaker 3: But then we just decided to go walk to the Bean.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Took probably 3,000 photos of the Bean.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Love it.
- 29:25Speaker 3: And I wanted to go to this place called Wild Berries, like,
- 29:27Speaker 3: I don't know, Pancakes and More, something.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I went there my first time. I went to Chicago,
- 29:31Speaker 3: and I loved it. I don't know how I got
- 29:32Speaker 3: in the one time, but the line was an hour long.
- 29:35Speaker 3: no so we get online really quick And we find
- 29:37Speaker 3: this little tiny like diner, but a locals spot like
- 29:42Speaker 3: nobody else talks about it's called.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Like Pittsfield Pittsfield cafe.
- 29:47Speaker 3: And I love a diner where you sit at the
- 29:49Speaker 3: bar They're just talking back and forth with you feel
- 29:52Speaker 3: up your coffee constantly And it's in the middle of
- 29:54Speaker 3: this apartment building you like just go in it's right
- 29:57Speaker 3: at the lobby and And they got this beautiful outside
- 30:00Speaker 3: of the diner, quiet, easy, romantic. But then there's also
- 30:04Speaker 3: the inside of the diner where it's busy, it's bustling,
- 30:06Speaker 3: it's fun. And a lot of the Chicago natives are
- 30:12Speaker 3: from different parts of the world. So they're all speaking Spanish.
- 30:14Speaker 3: My girlfriend speaks Spanish. They're speaking Spanish together. There's Mexican
- 30:17Speaker 3: music being.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Played in the kitchen.
- 30:18Speaker 3: So it was this fun vibe. So from there, we
- 30:21Speaker 3: just slowly started making our way down to the Riverwalk.
- 30:24Speaker 3: We got a nice little food, and I knew once
- 30:26Speaker 3: we had stuffed up in our bellies all this food
- 30:28Speaker 3: from the diner, we need to walk. And the one
- 30:30Speaker 3: thing we talked about on the podcast, just walk the
- 30:31Speaker 3: Riverwalk and see what happens. Yeah. I rave a lot
- 30:35Speaker 3: about our Riverwalk here in Tampa, and I've fought for
- 30:37Speaker 3: years that we have the best.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I am mistaken.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Chicago really is a beautiful city.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It's gorgeous.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It's such a shame that for, like, Five months out
- 30:47Speaker 1: of the year, it's covered in snow.
- 30:49Speaker 2: That's the only part that's keeping me from, like, I
- 30:51Speaker 2: would go to Chicago.
- 30:52Speaker 3: I would live in Chicago with the vibe that it
- 30:54Speaker 3: had because it has the big city.
- 30:56Speaker 2: It has the energy. And going on the Riverwalk, I mean,
- 30:59Speaker 2: they had bars and restaurants everywhere. and different vibes all
- 31:04Speaker 2: throughout it.
- 31:05Speaker 3: You could go to a quiet little like wine, sit down,
- 31:07Speaker 3: look at the water. And it's just so beautiful that
- 31:10Speaker 3: you're just taken aback. Or we walk, I don't know,
- 31:13Speaker 3: 400 feet up the river walk. And now there's a
- 31:15Speaker 3: fall festival going on. They got a full live band.
- 31:18Speaker 3: They got pumpkins everywhere. People are dancing.
- 31:20Speaker 2: They got pints of beer being passed out. Like this
- 31:22Speaker 2: is the coolest thing ever.
- 31:23Speaker 3: So we walked the entire thing probably like twice and
- 31:26Speaker 3: just sat at different places to enjoy the different energies.
- 31:29Speaker 3: And one of them, they had this like It felt
- 31:31Speaker 3: like a, almost like an Oktoberfest vibe.
- 31:33Speaker 2: It's called like the Northmen.
- 31:35Speaker 3: And you sit there, we got a pint of beer
- 31:37Speaker 3: and we just sat under a tree and just people
- 31:40Speaker 3: watched for probably an hour. And that is the moment
- 31:43Speaker 3: that I wanted, that I knew if I had a
- 31:44Speaker 3: reservation for the other pizza place, we would have had
- 31:46Speaker 3: to rush. And we sat there and just talked and
- 31:49Speaker 3: laughed and laughed at the birds and dog watched. And
- 31:52Speaker 3: we also saw a fight happen because this was crazy.
- 31:56Speaker 3: This was like, honestly, there was a couple moments in
- 31:58Speaker 3: Chicago where, That I was on such high alert that
- 32:01Speaker 3: I was like, I do not want to have to
- 32:02Speaker 3: step in. I do not want to have to break
- 32:04Speaker 3: up a fight. And I also don't want to fight,
- 32:06Speaker 3: but I will if I have to.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 3: So we're sitting there under this tree and it's absolutely beautiful.
- 32:11Speaker 3: But there's some solicitors that walk by. I guess one
- 32:13Speaker 3: of the entertainment things that was happening down the street
- 32:15Speaker 3: is like this basketball team. And so they're walking out
- 32:17Speaker 3: trying to give people tickets. It's one of those things
- 32:19Speaker 3: that's like you're sitting in downtown St.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Peter, Tampa. You just tell them, no, no, thank you.
- 32:23Speaker 2: And they go on their way.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, this guy goes up to this, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 3: probably four old people, older people. And I will say
- 32:30Speaker 3: they were crotchety as hell. But this dude was not
- 32:33Speaker 3: taking their shit. So the guy goes up to the
- 32:36Speaker 3: older gentleman at the table.
- 32:37Speaker 2: And is like, hey, you doing this basketball thing? And
- 32:38Speaker 2: the lady starts going off on him. No, thank you.
- 32:42Speaker 1: No, thank you.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Move on.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Move on.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Makes it so much of a bigger situation that the
- 32:48Speaker 3: guy ends up getting in her face and is like
- 32:51Speaker 3: calling her the B word and like going off on
- 32:53Speaker 3: her and telling the.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Guy that if you don't get your woman, I'm going to.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I'm like this.
- 33:02Speaker 3: It's partly like Brianna and I are kind of laughing
- 33:05Speaker 3: at the situation because we're like, ma'am, you could have
- 33:06Speaker 3: just easily said no, thank you and had them go
- 33:08Speaker 3: on their way.
- 33:09Speaker 2: But you're turning this situation to a point where it's
- 33:11Speaker 2: almost dangerous. Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Like this guy's about to do something that is going
- 33:15Speaker 3: to be very, very bad for everyone in the situation. Luckily,
- 33:18Speaker 3: security gets involved, takes the solicitor out. The old people
- 33:21Speaker 3: end up leaving.
- 33:21Speaker 1: And I'm like.
- 33:23Speaker 3: That's also the part of the city that I have
- 33:24Speaker 3: to recognize because there's so many people, there's higher chances
- 33:27Speaker 3: for something like that to happen.
- 33:28Speaker 2: And that wasn't the only thing that happened.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Like we were at dinner and I remember like, there's
- 33:32Speaker 3: a beautiful Italian restaurant. We're at that night and this
- 33:35Speaker 3: random guy, I don't know, maybe some kind of mental
- 33:37Speaker 3: illness going on. He walks right up to the window
- 33:40Speaker 3: as we're like eating there. And he's like about to
- 33:42Speaker 3: just like smash the window. And I'm like, what is
- 33:45Speaker 3: he about to do? Like, again, in my core, I'm like,
- 33:49Speaker 3: I do not want to have to intervene, but I
- 33:50Speaker 3: will if I have to, especially because Brianna's sitting right
- 33:53Speaker 3: by the window. I'm like, babe, do not look. Because
- 33:56Speaker 3: I don't want anybody to, like, charge up the situation.
- 33:58Speaker 3: If we say something, look at him, he's going to
- 34:00Speaker 3: want to have a reaction, so he's going to do
- 34:02Speaker 3: something drastic. I don't know, get naked, break a window,
- 34:05Speaker 3: start yelling at people.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Luckily, he left.
- 34:07Speaker 3: But those are a couple moments in the city where
- 34:09Speaker 3: I was like, still a big city at the end
- 34:11Speaker 3: of the day.
- 34:11Speaker 2: It's a lot bigger of a city than, like, Tampa.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Like, Tampa's big, it's fun, but ain't nothing like a
- 34:16Speaker 3: Chicago where there's just people everywhere.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Everywhere at all hours of the night.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean when I think of the big three
- 34:22Speaker 1: I do think of Chicago LA in New York like
- 34:24Speaker 1: those three I'm like those are the three big American cities.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Mm-hmm And I did love that charm about it though
- 34:30Speaker 3: like I will say I think Chicago is my favorite
- 34:31Speaker 3: of the big cities because it had all the charm
- 34:34Speaker 3: and it just The people.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Were just easygoing.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I mean it was crowded, but it wasn't overly crowded
- 34:38Speaker 3: It was talkative But it wasn't like overly aggressive or
- 34:40Speaker 3: like get in your face or you have to do
- 34:42Speaker 3: all these things like there's people on the street trying
- 34:43Speaker 3: to sell things and But they're not overly aggressive trying
- 34:46Speaker 3: to sell things, you know?
- 34:47Speaker 2: A good balance of it.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It's a big city for people who are not big
- 34:50Speaker 1: city people.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I love that vibe of it. So that's what we
- 34:53Speaker 3: pretty much did all Saturday. We walked the Riverwalk. We
- 34:55Speaker 3: went out to Billy Goat Tavern, which I loved. And
- 34:58Speaker 3: then we went back to the hotel. And this was
- 35:00Speaker 3: like you said, we were sitting on the couch with
- 35:02Speaker 3: your friend just waiting, seeing like we either got to
- 35:05Speaker 3: get up or just enjoy.
- 35:06Speaker 2: We sat on the couch because I've never been in
- 35:08Speaker 2: a fancy hotel. They give you robes. In slippers?
- 35:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's an experience. It was awesome.
- 35:13Speaker 2: We sat on the couch.
- 35:14Speaker 3: In our robes and just put on game two of
- 35:16Speaker 3: the Rays, which was very exciting in the beginning.
- 35:19Speaker 1: And then it was very unexciting towards the end.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Luckily, we didn't see that part.
- 35:23Speaker 1: We passed out.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Well, we were sitting on the couch and we're like,
- 35:25Speaker 3: let's just enjoy. You know, we don't have to rush
- 35:27Speaker 3: off and do all these things. So we sat and
- 35:29Speaker 3: probably watched about an hour of baseball. And then we
- 35:32Speaker 3: got up and went to the Italian restaurant, which was
- 35:34Speaker 3: like family owned. It was called Eduardo's.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Nice.
- 35:37Speaker 2: In- Incredible.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Walked through the city, got to see all the different
- 35:40Speaker 3: energies that were going on, and then went back to
- 35:42Speaker 3: the hotel because we had an early flight the next morning.
- 35:44Speaker 3: There are a couple places that we wanted to go.
- 35:46Speaker 3: We wanted to go to the Green Mill, which is
- 35:48Speaker 3: very famous, a jazz bar. Decided, put it off for
- 35:50Speaker 3: the next trip. Wanted to go to Picudes or whatever,
- 35:53Speaker 3: the pizza place. Put it off for the next trip.
- 35:55Speaker 3: The riverboat, put it off for the next trip. We
- 35:57Speaker 3: hit the perfect amount of things where we weren't overly exhausted,
- 36:01Speaker 3: but we got to see a big amount of Chicago.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah. So when are you going to go back to Chicago?
- 36:04Speaker 2: Not when it's cold.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You got to wait like another year.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I would like to go in the spring.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Either spring or fall. But I do love that city.
- 36:11Speaker 3: And it's kind of like, you know, taking the trip
- 36:13Speaker 3: to Nashville or taking the trip to Miami.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Where it's like, wait a second. We did that in
- 36:16Speaker 2: 36 hours. We can make that trip happen again.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Oh, for sure. But also in the summer, Chicago is
- 36:22Speaker 1: supposed to be. I mean, the only time I've been
- 36:24Speaker 1: to Chicago is June and it was gorgeous. And then
- 36:27Speaker 1: in October and it was just as nice.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it was the perfect weather where that's the payoff, though.
- 36:33Speaker 3: It's like you go and it's nice for eight months.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Before it's hell.
- 36:37Speaker 3: It's like we have the opposite here. Like we have
- 36:39Speaker 3: four months where it's absolute hell because of heat. And
- 36:42Speaker 3: then the other seven, eight are pretty enjoyable.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's temperate.
- 36:47Speaker 2: For the most part.
- 36:48Speaker 3: But it was just such a fun trip because that
- 36:50Speaker 3: was our first solo trip together. We've gone out and
- 36:53Speaker 3: met friends. We've gone down and met family at these
- 36:56Speaker 3: different places that we've gone together. But we've never had
- 36:59Speaker 3: a solo trip, just us, where we got to decide
- 37:01Speaker 3: what we did.
- 37:02Speaker 1: And it was.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 37:04Speaker 1: So fun. But it went well.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Me too. Me too.
- 37:07Speaker 3: It makes me very excited for what we're going to
- 37:08Speaker 3: travel and do next. I mean, I don't know if
- 37:10Speaker 3: I'm ever going to rent a car again, if that's
- 37:12Speaker 3: ever going to happen.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I don't know if that was the move.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I don't think it was. And I thought that as
- 37:16Speaker 2: I was getting the car. I was like, damn it, Scott.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I think I did too much. And I did. And
- 37:20Speaker 2: that's fine. You know what?
- 37:21Speaker 3: We live and we learn. But I think next time,
- 37:24Speaker 3: just going to trust the Ubers or take the train.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes you got to pay for the expense up
- 37:28Speaker 1: front so you don't have to pay for it on
- 37:29Speaker 1: the back end.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll go through that experience again. But next time,
- 37:32Speaker 3: I believe we're going to the big one that we
- 37:35Speaker 3: got coming up. Now it's fun to kind of look ahead.
- 37:37Speaker 3: You know, we go to a year from now, we
- 37:39Speaker 3: go to Italy for a friend's wedding.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Yay.
- 37:41Speaker 3: So that's one that I might rent a car in
- 37:44Speaker 3: Italy to get all around those little areas.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Nope. Driving in Italy is
- 37:50Speaker 1: a feat. When we were on the Amalfi Coast a
- 37:52Speaker 1: month ago, I was like... I mean, I was panicked
- 37:55Speaker 1: the whole time, because I'm like, one wrong move from anybody,
- 37:58Speaker 1: and we're over the side of this cliff.
- 37:59Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I mean, if you're just driving through, like, Tuscany, I'm
- 38:02Speaker 1: sure it's fine, but still, like, there's rules you don't
- 38:05Speaker 1: know about, and, yeah, sometimes you just gotta, like, hire somebody.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that might be the move, though, too,
- 38:10Speaker 3: because there are areas, and that's why it's like, I'm
- 38:12Speaker 3: gonna go to you as the Italy expert.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think just travel, not expert, but I've
- 38:18Speaker 1: been around the block a few times.
- 38:19Speaker 2: You've seen a couple, like, I've only seen.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Rome and then like way northern Italy but the weddings
- 38:24Speaker 3: in Rome and might as well you're there so might
- 38:27Speaker 3: as well see the other ones like I've heard of
- 38:30Speaker 3: like you gotta see Venice I would like to see
- 38:32Speaker 3: Tuscany like I don't know I don't even know like
- 38:34Speaker 3: what part of the region these things are but to
- 38:36Speaker 3: take the time while we're there to at least go
- 38:38Speaker 3: see them and the only way I thought in my
- 38:39Speaker 3: head I was like well you gotta run a car
- 38:41Speaker 3: but I don't know maybe there's another way.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Well you can also take they have really great public
- 38:44Speaker 1: transportation you could take a train to another city so
- 38:46Speaker 1: you don't have to drive and then you can actually
- 38:48Speaker 1: enjoy the scenery as you're as you're.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Going down That's true, where you don't have to be
- 38:52Speaker 3: worrying about what road rules are about to break.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yeah, although Venice, I think, is like an island, so
- 38:56Speaker 1: you have to fly, I think.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Okay, in that case, we've got a lot of planning
- 38:58Speaker 3: to do. But a beautiful trip. And again, thank you
- 39:00Speaker 3: for all the recommendations. I didn't get to all of it.
- 39:03Speaker 3: It's just impossible to do.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Next trip.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Next trip.
- 39:06Speaker 3: I will make sure to go see the architecture boat
- 39:09Speaker 3: tour and hit up Pecudes Green Mill. Abby, anything else
- 39:13Speaker 3: happening before we rush to this sales meeting?
- 39:16Speaker 1: I don't think so, you guys. Thanks for tuning in.
