- 0:35Speaker 1: I am so excited that i'm your host, David car Steward,
- 0:37Speaker 1: your business bringing teams together to accomplished great things. We
- 0:40Speaker 1: have Angie here, Gilner. She We're so glad to have
- 0:44Speaker 1: her here. The Familiar Society. We're going to talk a
- 0:48Speaker 1: little bit more about that and what she brings her
- 0:50Speaker 1: unique skill set and where she's helping women entrepreneurs in particular.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm super excited to have her here.
- 0:56Speaker 1: We met through the Success Champion's Network and just amazing
- 1:00Speaker 1: place for business to business professionals, and Angie is just
- 1:03Speaker 1: so much great energy and excitement. So I just on
- 1:06Speaker 1: behalf of all the of our listeners and viewers. Thank
- 1:11Speaker 1: you for joining us, Angie.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, thank you so much time listeners. I
- 1:17Speaker 3: appreciate the opportunity, David.
- 1:19Speaker 1: This is going to be fun, absolutely absolutely, Angie. I mean,
- 1:23Speaker 1: when you know, when you and I were talking, I
- 1:26Speaker 1: had told you, you know, I had worked with a
- 1:28Speaker 1: woman owned small business before I started my own company,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and how important it was to her to have resources
- 1:35Speaker 1: and support. And I think the work that you're doing
- 1:37Speaker 1: is so important out there. A lot of women you know,
- 1:42Speaker 1: it's a challenge. I mean, it's Mitchell Hounds for men
- 1:44Speaker 1: and women, but I think particularly for women.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I think you have.
- 1:48Speaker 1: A background and where you've come in your journey, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: now you're looking at helping women become part of this.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I like you call it the speak easy if you're
- 1:58Speaker 1: creating this space and this environment for them to come
- 2:01Speaker 1: in for real growth. I was looking at your website,
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know, but I like the you know meaning, I
- 2:07Speaker 1: like the fact that you're creating an environment is what
- 2:09Speaker 1: I want to get at in a space where you know,
- 2:13Speaker 1: we can move past some of the struggles that you
- 2:15Speaker 1: know men and women are facing. But kind of talk
- 2:17Speaker 1: about a little bit about your journey. What got you
- 2:19Speaker 1: to create this, you know, this business and where you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: at Angie.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Well, like a lot of women, I created my business
- 2:30Speaker 3: out of a diversity or I should say adversity, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: easy for me to say, but it was an adversity.
- 2:40Speaker 3: And to make a long story short, I had worked
- 2:44Speaker 3: for this organization for ten years. I had built and
- 2:47Speaker 3: developed the program and it was generating heaps of revenue,
- 2:52Speaker 3: like million dollar plus revenue a year, and it was
- 2:56Speaker 3: time to onboard a new hire. We interviewed when multiple
- 3:02Speaker 3: people hired this young man fresh out of college, and
- 3:08Speaker 3: I was fresh out of college two once, so not
- 3:10Speaker 3: a problem there. But what I learned was that the
- 3:13Speaker 3: executive director offered him three thousand dollars a year more
- 3:17Speaker 3: than I was making. I was the supervisor and director
- 3:21Speaker 3: of the program. I had been there for ten years
- 3:24Speaker 3: at that point. I had eighteen years of experience in
- 3:27Speaker 3: the particular profession I was in. And this young man
- 3:32Speaker 3: graduates college and gets offered three thousand dollars a year
- 3:35Speaker 3: more than me. I don't think so. So I would
- 3:39Speaker 3: like to say that I was super professional, and I
- 3:43Speaker 3: went into the office and sat down and had a
- 3:46Speaker 3: rational conversation. Yeah, that's a big old lie. I WT
- 3:52Speaker 3: some F bombs and it was an ugly conversation, walked out,
- 3:57Speaker 3: never to be heard or seen from again. Four days later,
- 4:01Speaker 3: I started my business. I had my LLC, and I
- 4:03Speaker 3: was off the ground and running. Now, to make this
- 4:06Speaker 3: story just a little bit worse, when the executive director
- 4:10Speaker 3: found out I started my business, Paul left me a
- 4:13Speaker 3: voicemail and said, when you fail, I will gladly accept
- 4:18Speaker 3: your resume back. And I was like, oooh, okay, so
- 4:25Speaker 3: that was twelve years ago. I kept that voicemail for
- 4:28Speaker 3: five years and I used it as fuel and said,
- 4:32Speaker 3: you know, never again will anybody ever tell me that's
- 4:37Speaker 3: all your worth, nor will anybody ever put a cap
- 4:42Speaker 3: on the amount of money I can make?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Hmm wow wow.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Well I like that you took that fire and you
- 4:50Speaker 1: you know, you've shifted it. And you know, I think
- 4:55Speaker 1: a lot of women I like this idea, Like you
- 4:57Speaker 1: said that the capital there's there are a lot of
- 4:59Speaker 1: women that maybe any men, but play small. They're like
- 5:03Speaker 1: if they playing not to lose, is staying playing to win?
- 5:06Speaker 1: I feel like you're calling people, you know, women up
- 5:08Speaker 1: in particular, to say, look, learn from your experience and
- 5:12Speaker 1: be inspired.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And why not you right? Why not?
- 5:15Speaker 1: Because otherwise you could just say stay silent and just
- 5:18Speaker 1: you know, right, And how's that going to help you?
- 5:22Speaker 1: How's that going to get you to you know, where
- 5:24Speaker 1: you're at today obviously helping so many, so many women
- 5:29Speaker 1: in their businesses. And if you didn't take this step,
- 5:32Speaker 1: you've been missing out reaching all these all these these women.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I felt like if I didn't do something, a couple
- 5:40Speaker 3: of things would happen. For one that I would that
- 5:42Speaker 3: would be saying that I was okay with it, and
- 5:46Speaker 3: I wasn't. And for two, I felt like that was
- 5:50Speaker 3: just going to be I'm a firm believer, and we
- 5:53Speaker 3: treat people how we teach people how to treat us.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, And if I would have accepted that, I
- 6:03Speaker 3: would have been teaching this executive director that it would
- 6:06Speaker 3: be okay to treat me that way and not no one.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I don't care who you are, no one deserves to
- 6:14Speaker 3: be treated that way.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and I have.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I mean, maybe it's stereotypical to say this, Angie, but
- 6:22Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, sometimes I was just talking
- 6:25Speaker 1: with a client right now, and I think sometimes women
- 6:27Speaker 1: are they're mute themselves instead of like speaking up, and
- 6:31Speaker 1: they and they're not empowered to speak. And I think
- 6:34Speaker 1: when it's maybe a little bit more socially acceptable to
- 6:37Speaker 1: speak up a little bit, and so learning to access
- 6:41Speaker 1: your voice, like you said, Angie, like no, no, your
- 6:44Speaker 1: voice needs to be heard. We need you to speak
- 6:46Speaker 1: up and have the confidence, right.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yep. Well, the safe bet would have been to
- 6:51Speaker 3: stay because what I didn't share is at the time
- 6:56Speaker 3: I was supporting my husband while he was supporting his
- 7:00Speaker 3: stream and going to school full time to be a
- 7:02Speaker 3: school teacher during a midlife career shift. So I was
- 7:07Speaker 3: the sole income, So the same thing would have been
- 7:13Speaker 3: to stay and I was like, no, absolutely not. And
- 7:16Speaker 3: luckily my husband supported me. I mean he still does,
- 7:20Speaker 3: like he just is my biggest cheerleader for everything that
- 7:24Speaker 3: I do, which is great. But he did have a
- 7:26Speaker 3: couple of butt pucker moments because he was like, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 3: we have a mortgage.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Oh goodness, well that that you know, that balances each other.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I'm so glad you have that. It's so important. But
- 7:44Speaker 1: you know, like you said that, the cost of saying
- 7:46Speaker 1: silent would have been much worse. And I think sometimes
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, we're afraid to ask those questions, right, but
- 7:55Speaker 1: look at the shift that when we do ask the
- 7:57Speaker 1: questions and we consider that possibility, right, Angie.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yes, and I think that's so important.
- 8:04Speaker 1: What you're doing, the work that you're doing is helping
- 8:06Speaker 1: create a space, asking the questions, writing an environment for
- 8:10Speaker 1: them to step up and not just anybody. That's why
- 8:13Speaker 1: we have folks like you on the podcast, Angie, because
- 8:15Speaker 1: we want folks to come and listen here. And you've
- 8:18Speaker 1: Graceel has already shared your calendar link, which I'm going
- 8:20Speaker 1: to provide here to the to listeners, but to listen
- 8:23Speaker 1: and take it in and and and see the relationship
- 8:26Speaker 1: with Angie and I have and and with so many others. Uh,
- 8:29Speaker 1: don't go don't go cold, but come in here and
- 8:31Speaker 1: experience that. And we're going to get into a little
- 8:33Speaker 1: bit more about Angie's background and what she's doing and
- 8:36Speaker 1: how she's coaching. But you know, I think there's a
- 8:39Speaker 1: real pressure out there sometimes too. You know, look like
- 8:43Speaker 1: we have it all together and try to hold this image,
- 8:46Speaker 1: right Angie, Like, Okay, we've got it all together, and
- 8:49Speaker 1: what is that? What's the cost of that? Like you said,
- 8:53Speaker 1: when when when we are pretending we're not living in
- 8:55Speaker 1: our authentic self?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Absolutely. Matter of fact, I literally just
- 9:02Speaker 3: had this conversation in my SCN chapter this morning about how,
- 9:08Speaker 3: like right now, I'm kind of sitting in a decision
- 9:11Speaker 3: fatigue moment, and so I kind of put myself in
- 9:15Speaker 3: the hot seat and said, Okay, I need some help
- 9:18Speaker 3: because I'm sitting in some decision fatigue. And the consensus
- 9:22Speaker 3: was was like basically like, oh my gosh, you are normal,
- 9:26Speaker 3: like and almost yes, like I really don't have my
- 9:32Speaker 3: shit together.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Right, Like.
- 9:37Speaker 1: We all have moments like that, absolutely right, And so.
- 9:41Speaker 3: There was like this relief that came across and we
- 9:43Speaker 3: were all laughing, and I was like, I mean, I
- 9:47Speaker 3: appreciate the confidence of me, but yes, there are I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 3: I have my moments. Imposter syndrome creeps in from time
- 9:56Speaker 3: to time. I definitely questions some of the things. I've
- 10:00Speaker 3: been doing this for twelve years and some things come
- 10:03Speaker 3: second nature, but some I'm still like, Okay, I got
- 10:07Speaker 3: to figure it out. What's you know, like, this isn't
- 10:11Speaker 3: my zone of genius or who do I need to
- 10:13Speaker 3: hire to help me with this? And you know, but
- 10:17Speaker 3: it was I was so taken back because I didn't
- 10:20Speaker 3: realize that was the perception. But no, I'm I'm just yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 3: I might be half a step ahead, but.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Uh, I think, well, I love the fact that you
- 10:36Speaker 1: put yourself in a hot seat. At the concept of
- 10:38Speaker 1: a hot seat for those of you that haven't considered it,
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's just putting yourself in front of peer's colleagues that
- 10:43Speaker 1: they're asking you questions, clarifying you know you have a
- 10:48Speaker 1: problem or challenge, and so they're just giving you a
- 10:50Speaker 1: perspective and the fact that Angie, you're leading from what
- 10:53Speaker 1: you're living. That's what I love about, you know, having
- 10:55Speaker 1: folks like yourself on the podcast. It's like, no, no,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm I've been there, I've got Oh. There are times
- 11:00Speaker 1: where you work maybe a few steps ahead of you
- 11:03Speaker 1: and that's sometimes all we need.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But you have.
- 11:05Speaker 1: All of us are maybe a few steps ahead of
- 11:07Speaker 1: somebody and a few steps behind others, right, and we're helping.
- 11:11Speaker 1: We're just helping those people that may be behind us.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Let's move them ahead. And we're looking for people to
- 11:16Speaker 1: help us ahead ourselves.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yes, And I often share the story of my first
- 11:25Speaker 3: year in business. I had two dollars and eighty four
- 11:29Speaker 3: cents in my business bank account.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh that's a great story. I listened to you.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I listened to your your your that's on your website.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You got yeah, right, not so much.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, maybe I need to learn a
- 11:44Speaker 3: few things here. But I did start my business in
- 11:46Speaker 3: four days, and which I don't recommend doing, by the way,
- 11:50Speaker 3: let's just be honest about that. Yeah, but I'm a
- 11:54Speaker 3: little bit more stubborn than most, I will say, but
- 11:59Speaker 3: it determined because I was just like, I, oh, because
- 12:02Speaker 3: I had a lot of fuel in my fire, right, Yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 3: but you know, so I just had to figure it out.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And that's when I learned like as a coach, I
- 12:12Speaker 3: always need a coach, like I always need to be learning,
- 12:15Speaker 3: I always need to be growing. And I've just kept
- 12:19Speaker 3: with that ever since.
- 12:21Speaker 2: That's that.
- 12:22Speaker 1: No, And well, I I with you one hundred percent.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I liked your One of the things, you know, I
- 12:27Speaker 1: was going through your materials. By the way, connect with
- 12:29Speaker 1: Angie's she's on LinkedIn as well, and and and we'll
- 12:32Speaker 1: put her link to the website. Uh, but one of
- 12:36Speaker 1: the things I really liked in your messaging was that
- 12:38Speaker 1: you know, one size doesn't fit all for things, and
- 12:42Speaker 1: and and so you have to you know, understand and
- 12:45Speaker 1: this part that goes to understanding yourself, because if we
- 12:47Speaker 1: don't understand and appreciate ourselves, we kind of take everything
- 12:49Speaker 1: equal and and not everything is equal. And so when
- 12:53Speaker 1: you're looking at a coach or any any anybody you're
- 12:56Speaker 1: hiring or bringing into your world, you'll it may I
- 13:00Speaker 1: mean technically, okay, maybe there's some things, but there's not well,
- 13:04Speaker 1: there's differences in there. And so it's important to understand. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know that, right, Andy, I mean that that's one
- 13:10Speaker 1: thing I really appreciated that that that you're looking at
- 13:12Speaker 1: this you know way, and particularly for women, like, how
- 13:15Speaker 1: do we personalize this for you and your life and
- 13:18Speaker 1: where you're coming?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Right yep?
- 13:20Speaker 3: Right where you're at, not where I think you are,
- 13:24Speaker 3: not where I think you should be. And I don't
- 13:27Speaker 3: even tell you where you're going. That's up for you
- 13:30Speaker 3: to decide, right And I'm here alongside of the journey
- 13:36Speaker 3: with you. But everything is customized. I'm about as anti
- 13:40Speaker 3: cookie cutter as they get, like, because you know, you,
- 13:45Speaker 3: you go out and you look at I call it
- 13:48Speaker 3: the free Coach of Google, and you look at the
- 13:51Speaker 3: free Coach of Google and it says do this and
- 13:54Speaker 3: it'll work, and blah blah blah. And I'm like, okay,
- 13:58Speaker 3: for three percent of the pieceeople, it will work because
- 14:01Speaker 3: that's their style at me somewhere they're at. But what
- 14:04Speaker 3: about the rest of us? Right, Like, and so we
- 14:08Speaker 3: spend all of this time and which equals all of
- 14:11Speaker 3: this money or with spaghetti against the wall, hoping that
- 14:16Speaker 3: it sticks based on something that we read going but
- 14:19Speaker 3: it's they said it would work and it's like, well
- 14:22Speaker 3: you didn't fall into that three percent. Well, I don't
- 14:25Speaker 3: like those odds very much, right, So I want to
- 14:29Speaker 3: customize everything for you, not for the business side of you.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I have women who sit in the exact same space.
- 14:37Speaker 3: They're in sustainable tourism, their businesses are vastly different, and
- 14:43Speaker 3: they both know that I'm coaching each other. And I've
- 14:45Speaker 3: had them say, you know, you're not sharing this with
- 14:47Speaker 3: this one and you're not, And I'm like no, because
- 14:50Speaker 3: your business isn't their business or her business isn't your
- 14:53Speaker 3: business type of thing. She's not where you are. You're
- 14:57Speaker 3: serving different people in different ways. So no, absolutely not,
- 15:01Speaker 3: you know, because I would be doing a disservice to
- 15:06Speaker 3: both of them if I just said, oh, here, here's
- 15:09Speaker 3: the cookie cutter approach, do this right.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I mean that that comes from your years
- 15:15Speaker 1: of experience and understanding and appreciating where they're at on
- 15:18Speaker 1: a whole different levels, because you know different people's you
- 15:22Speaker 1: know capacity they're you know, what's like is that the
- 15:26Speaker 1: business model? Are you going to just be just you?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Are you want to have a team? Do you want
- 15:30Speaker 1: to have independent contractors? What industry you're serving? Is this
- 15:33Speaker 1: product based as a service base. I mean, so to say,
- 15:37Speaker 1: like you said, well it's worked for one person, Well
- 15:41Speaker 1: you know you're not that. You're not a carbon copy
- 15:43Speaker 1: of that other person.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely, no, No, And we all learn differently, we
- 15:49Speaker 3: all execute. Our brands are different, you know. I mean
- 15:53Speaker 3: think about business coaches there. We're a diamond dozen, We're
- 15:56Speaker 3: like Dollar General. We put them up everywhere, right like kids.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but we're all.
- 16:02Speaker 3: So vastly different in our branding and different things, and
- 16:08Speaker 3: so you really do have to connect with the brand
- 16:12Speaker 3: whenever it is that you're hiring any type of coach.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Yep, yeah, I mean, you know, Angie, I've been in
- 16:20Speaker 1: the environmental consulting space for twenty five years. I just
- 16:23Speaker 1: got off a call with one of a client, a
- 16:25Speaker 1: woman owned business in the environmental consulting space. And I
- 16:29Speaker 1: know this space, and I know it's even in the
- 16:31Speaker 1: Western United States, but there's a lot of nuances there. Now,
- 16:34Speaker 1: if you ask me to go do the same thing
- 16:36Speaker 1: with I don't know chiropractor, I could. I mean, I
- 16:41Speaker 1: know some basic things, but that's not my expertise, right,
- 16:44Speaker 1: So it's like understanding these nuances and I agree, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: think and there's a whole there's a great book you
- 16:51Speaker 1: probably write it called e myth, But understanding this idea
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the role of an entrepreneur, the technician, and the manager. Right,
- 16:59Speaker 1: an entrepreneur, I'm sure you're dealing with with the angie, Right,
- 17:02Speaker 1: how do people understand that, especially if they've been an
- 17:05Speaker 1: employee most of their life? Right, can talk a little
- 17:08Speaker 1: bit about that about moving from that employee mindset to
- 17:11Speaker 1: being entrepreneur mindset.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yes, that's actually one of the things that I address
- 17:19Speaker 3: almost immediately is where is their mindset in that? Because
- 17:24Speaker 3: if they're creating a job for themselves, great, I can
- 17:29Speaker 3: coach you through creating a job for yourself, you know,
- 17:32Speaker 3: and so but if you really want to lead or
- 17:37Speaker 3: operate a business of significance, a business that really makes
- 17:42Speaker 3: an influence and an impact on the world, which I
- 17:46Speaker 3: would say one of my clients that's their goal in
- 17:50Speaker 3: some way, and then in return that will increase their income.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And so it's like, okay, then we got to get
- 18:00Speaker 3: you into that CEO mindset and really making that shift.
- 18:07Speaker 3: And once the light bulb moments come on and they're like,
- 18:11Speaker 3: it's so different, it's so different, And so I even
- 18:17Speaker 3: start in the coaching, I even start saying, okay, you know, CEO, David,
- 18:21Speaker 3: you are, and they're like, yes, I'm a CEO now
- 18:24Speaker 3: you know?
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Because it makes such a difference in it in the
- 18:33Speaker 3: way that we make decisions, in the way that we
- 18:35Speaker 3: manage our time, in the way that we operate our
- 18:38Speaker 3: day to day I mean literally everything it impacts and
- 18:42Speaker 3: so really getting that understanding of did you create a
- 18:47Speaker 3: job for yourself? If you did, fine, not a problem.
- 18:51Speaker 3: We just need to be aware of that, or you
- 18:54Speaker 3: want to operate a business of significance.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Mm hmmm why?
- 18:58Speaker 1: And I love that too, because I say, you're kind
- 19:01Speaker 1: of cutting through the coaching, like going without the fluff here.
- 19:05Speaker 1: You're you're you're trying to get to the core of
- 19:07Speaker 1: the issues here. And that's what I love that I
- 19:10Speaker 1: saw on your website, not just you, but Sam and
- 19:12Speaker 1: Seth and this this again container for women to come
- 19:15Speaker 1: in and just acknowledge where they're at.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Okay, if they've created a job.
- 19:18Speaker 1: For themselves, just and be clear with that, because sometimes
- 19:21Speaker 1: I feel like people think that they're truly being entrepreneurial
- 19:25Speaker 1: and building a business. In reality, they're not. They're building
- 19:27Speaker 1: a job for themselves and just be clear on that. Right,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Let's not let's just not you know, because you know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: because you're going to do things differently and you're gonna
- 19:37Speaker 1: be frustrated if you're not getting the results. If you're
- 19:39Speaker 1: really just created yourself, you know, I'm just not working,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm working for myself.
- 19:44Speaker 3: But that's it, right, you know, absolutely absolutely, And the
- 19:49Speaker 3: you know, one of things that I really try to
- 19:54Speaker 3: strive for is at the end of the day, is
- 19:56Speaker 3: what's going to bring you joy, because that's what's going
- 19:59Speaker 3: to sustain That's what's going to fulfill you. And even
- 20:03Speaker 3: if if you are working a regular job, if it
- 20:08Speaker 3: doesn't bring you joy, them why do you drive to
- 20:10Speaker 3: it every day or why do you walk into your
- 20:13Speaker 3: office every day? Right? So your business is no different.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Or if you've created you know, an employment situation for yourself,
- 20:22Speaker 3: I call that survival, you know, And that's okay. If
- 20:25Speaker 3: you're just wanting to create a job to survive, great,
- 20:29Speaker 3: not a problem. But but really, like you said, getting
- 20:33Speaker 3: that clear understanding on that it's super important and then
- 20:37Speaker 3: we can start, you know, meet you right where you're at,
- 20:40Speaker 3: and then we can build from there.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Well, and I think sometimes feel like maybe
- 20:47Speaker 1: it's it's all or nothing proposition what you're saying, Angie,
- 20:52Speaker 1: because you know, we all have to pay the bills.
- 20:54Speaker 2: You know, we all have to you know, there's.
- 20:56Speaker 1: There's certain things that we need to do. I agree
- 20:58Speaker 1: with you, but it should hopefully find joy in most
- 21:01Speaker 1: of it. Hopefully it's not drudgery whatever you're doing, whether
- 21:03Speaker 1: you're the entrepreneur, whether it's going.
- 21:05Speaker 2: To a job every day.
- 21:07Speaker 1: But you know what I found, at least in my
- 21:09Speaker 1: entrepreneurial journey was I felt like it had to be
- 21:11Speaker 1: all or nothing. Where some people that follow your passions
- 21:13Speaker 1: and so it's like, do I just go and leave
- 21:16Speaker 1: my job and do the passions? But could you speak
- 21:18Speaker 1: a little bit about that journey of like, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: if you're working the job, but you have this desire.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe it's making cookies or having a
- 21:25Speaker 1: cake decorating class or whatever the course or whatever that
- 21:28Speaker 1: might be for you, right, paintings or whatever that is.
- 21:32Speaker 1: But they're like, is sometimes there's this all or nothing
- 21:34Speaker 1: mentality Angie.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so it really boils down to your capacity. And
- 21:41Speaker 3: that's something that I really like to dissect, is what is,
- 21:46Speaker 3: and it's not only your time capacity, it's your energy capacity,
- 21:51Speaker 3: it's your mental capacity, it's your focus capacity. And so
- 21:55Speaker 3: what is your capacity for being able to do this?
- 21:59Speaker 3: And let's get real and let's get honest about this. Okay,
- 22:02Speaker 3: you're working a job, not a problem. You want to
- 22:05Speaker 3: have a side hustle, not a problem. But let's really
- 22:09Speaker 3: dissect the capacity that you have because and then we
- 22:13Speaker 3: work from the goals, right, Like, Okay, you tell me
- 22:17Speaker 3: you want to make ten thousand dollars a month on
- 22:19Speaker 3: this side hustle, but you have low capacity. Is that realistic?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:25Speaker 3: Probably not? Probably not right? Unless you have a ten
- 22:29Speaker 3: thousand dollars ticket at item, then you're confident you can
- 22:33Speaker 3: tell one a month.
- 22:34Speaker 2: You know, yeah, yeah right, yeah.
- 22:37Speaker 3: It's like so, but so really being able to just
- 22:43Speaker 3: that's one, you know, meeting people right where they are,
- 22:46Speaker 3: but getting them to see things that are not necessarily
- 22:51Speaker 3: visible to them but visible to us as experts, right,
- 22:56Speaker 3: and so that's all part of coaching is like really
- 23:00Speaker 3: able to view things. And it's like, okay, but have
- 23:03Speaker 3: you thought about let's talk about and they're like oh
- 23:06Speaker 3: oh oh, And I love those moments when those happen. Yes,
- 23:11Speaker 3: and they're like, oh my gosh, I never thought about that. Yes,
- 23:15Speaker 3: thank you, that's why you paid exactly.
- 23:18Speaker 1: No, No, seriously, that's that's Angie, because I feel like
- 23:21Speaker 1: as a coach, right, you're compressing time. You could go
- 23:24Speaker 1: do this and play around for years, right, yes, dibble,
- 23:29Speaker 1: dabble here and here, but then you have you know,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know, coming into a space and an environment with
- 23:35Speaker 1: like something like Angie that knows specifically women entrepreneurs and
- 23:42Speaker 1: has been through the journey go through. I'll just jump
- 23:44Speaker 1: through a lot of hoops you don't have. She's already
- 23:46Speaker 1: gone through this, right Angie, You've and worked with so
- 23:48Speaker 1: many women. It's like, let's avoid those those those pitfalls,
- 23:52Speaker 1: those challenges so we can move you further along your journey.
- 23:56Speaker 1: And I think sometimes there's maybe talk a little about this.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Sometimes I think there's a maybe don't comp the cast.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So all this time is is it? It's it's it's
- 24:07Speaker 2: I would.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Say time is money, but time is your your greatest
- 24:11Speaker 1: currency if you will right that we can invest in
- 24:14Speaker 1: where we can put time in, So why not you know,
- 24:17Speaker 1: spend the quote unquote cash and that money which we
- 24:20Speaker 1: can generate a whole lot more with our time and efforts.
- 24:24Speaker 1: But sometimes there's a there's a roadblock, there's a you know, like,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I don't know if I can do that, but yet
- 24:28Speaker 1: I'll spend hours and tens and lots and lots of
- 24:31Speaker 1: time only to get really not a lot for it. Yeah,
- 24:36Speaker 1: you speak a little bit to that, Angie.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Sure, you have two options. So you either spend money
- 24:44Speaker 3: to save time or you spend time to save money.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Either way you're gonna pay. So I'm gonna say that again.
- 24:54Speaker 3: You either spend money to save time or you spend
- 25:00Speaker 3: time to save money. So how much time do you have.
- 25:07Speaker 2: To waste?
- 25:10Speaker 3: That's the question. Like for me my first year of business,
- 25:13Speaker 3: I don't view it as a waste because I learned
- 25:17Speaker 3: a lot. But I walked away with two dollars and
- 25:20Speaker 3: eighty four cents to show for it. I think that
- 25:25Speaker 3: speaks for itself. I wasn't doing a lot of things right,
- 25:30Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, and so I knew there
- 25:34Speaker 3: had to be a better way so I could continue
- 25:37Speaker 3: down that road. And I can tell you that two
- 25:40Speaker 3: dollars and eighty four cents came at a cost sleepless nights, crying, crying, crying, crying, worry, scarcity, mindset, fear.
- 25:51Speaker 3: So the cost was much more exponential than the two
- 25:56Speaker 3: dollars and eighty four cents I had sitting in my
- 25:58Speaker 3: bank account. So I had to get real. I had
- 26:03Speaker 3: to get honest and say, look, I can keep doing that.
- 26:06Speaker 3: That's a choice I could have, But I chose to
- 26:10Speaker 3: invest in coaching because I didn't. I never wanted to
- 26:14Speaker 3: go back. I never wanted to feel that way again.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I never wanted to have those experiences again. I was
- 26:21Speaker 3: tired of crying myself to sleep and worrying and chasing
- 26:24Speaker 3: a dollar and taking job's just to put money in
- 26:29Speaker 3: my bank account and then being miserable. I'm like, why
- 26:33Speaker 3: did I do this? I hate doing this? Oh wait,
- 26:36Speaker 3: because I need I don't have the Twelve years later,
- 26:41Speaker 3: fast forward, It's been years since I've taken a job
- 26:44Speaker 3: like that. Years. Now I get to do what lights
- 26:49Speaker 3: me up. I get to do what helps me. I
- 26:52Speaker 3: get to do what's making a massive impact on my
- 26:57Speaker 3: clients that's in turn making a massive impact on the
- 27:01Speaker 3: world and hopefully using my influence for good. My little
- 27:07Speaker 3: double horns coming out there. I'm taking over the world.
- 27:12Speaker 2: No, but.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I get to do this each and every day, and
- 27:21Speaker 3: I don't have those days. I don't have the bad days.
- 27:24Speaker 3: I don't cry myself to sleep, I don't have those
- 27:26Speaker 3: nights anymore. And to me, that's priceless, right Like, it's
- 27:31Speaker 3: absolutely priceless.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Oh man, Angie, I know we're getting close to the
- 27:35Speaker 1: end of our episode, but this, I mean this, what
- 27:38Speaker 1: you just shared is really priceless. I want people to
- 27:41Speaker 1: listen what they're you know, hearing hearing from Angie has
- 27:44Speaker 1: done this for twelve plus years, that you don't have
- 27:46Speaker 1: to just trade time for money. There's a better way,
- 27:50Speaker 1: right in. Somebody like Angie is one and just like myself.
- 27:53Speaker 1: That's why I have the Business Around People podcast is
- 27:55Speaker 1: we're sharing our information, encouraging you and you know you're
- 27:58Speaker 1: not alone. And I love Angie that you're you know,
- 28:02Speaker 1: you're being vulnerable. You're showing us how that this isn't
- 28:06Speaker 1: a weakness. You learned a lot from that four cents
- 28:09Speaker 1: in your bank account. You know, yes, it was difficult,
- 28:11Speaker 1: but you've leveraged it. What I say is that you've
- 28:13Speaker 1: leveraged that to you know, take it your business into
- 28:17Speaker 1: your life to a whole nother level.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I I My dad always taught me. You know,
- 28:25Speaker 3: he never cared that I made a mistake as long
- 28:27Speaker 3: as I learned from it. And so that was one
- 28:30Speaker 3: of my little takeaways during that time. Of course, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 3: my dad was would always be talking to me and say, okay,
- 28:36Speaker 3: what are you learning? Obviously you know you're not killing
- 28:40Speaker 3: it with two dollars and eighty four, so right, so
- 28:44Speaker 3: to learn in here and then what else do you
- 28:46Speaker 3: need to learn? And then who has that knowledge because
- 28:49Speaker 3: that's who you need to go after.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, I mean I hope everybody's enjoying this this episode. Uh,

- 29:23Speaker 1: nothing else are listening to this podcast, and they're saying, man,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I listen to Angie today, and if I do this,
- 29:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna be in a better spot.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Yeah. So meg a choice and stick with your choice.
- 29:35Speaker 3: You either spend money to save time or spend time
- 29:40Speaker 3: to save money, And as long as you're okay with
- 29:44Speaker 3: either choice, then that's the right choice for you. But
- 29:47Speaker 3: it's a choice, nonetheless, and so choose wisely.
