Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for Most Things Kenobi.
- 0:03Shouldn't it be all things Kenobi?
- 0:18Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:22podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:25I'm your host, Leanne. And I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:28Can I just say right off the jump here that this is the most
- 0:32beautiful animated show I have ever seen?
- 0:34Yes, 100% agree. It is.
- 0:39It's breathtaking. It's like a.
- 0:41Painting stunning. Come alive, Come alive.
- 0:45Yes, we're talking about mall episodes 5:00 and 6:00.
- 0:49Yeah. And wow, just wow.
- 0:53Visually, 12 out of 10. Holy cow.
- 0:58Beautiful I I'm honestly loving this show.
- 1:04I was very like, not sure I was. I liked it but now I feel like
- 1:09invested in the characters by now and.
- 1:12Oh yes. I felt a lot of tension like I
- 1:16used to feel watching certain episodes of Clone Wars.
- 1:19Yeah, yes. And the way they're doing the
- 1:23pacing is really working. I feel it's, it's captivating.
- 1:27There's lols where there needs to be.
- 1:30It's not constant, but the the shots that are action are so
- 1:35well done that I don't feel it's like, oh, this should have ended
- 1:383 minutes ago. I haven't felt that.
- 1:41And there are elements of Mall in these episodes that I am,
- 1:46like, salivating over because it's so cool to see Mall in this
- 1:51calm, composed manner of being. I'm here for it.
- 1:57I am too. I'm loving it and he wasn't even
- 1:59in these two episodes too much. It was just a little bit and I I
- 2:05I was thinking how in classic Star Wars post or I guess
- 2:09current Disney era, name something after a person and
- 2:14then barely have that person. But honestly?
- 2:20I get it. It's working really well in
- 2:22these two episodes and I I suspect that maybe as the show
- 2:26goes deeper, we're going to like Slough off some of the extra
- 2:30characters more and more and get down maybe to just Maul and a
- 2:34few characters. I think so.
- 2:37It seems to be going that way anyway.
- 2:39We'll. See whether I I don't want it to
- 2:41go that way, but I feel like you know.
- 2:43I know I there are certain characters I'm like living in
- 2:47fear of watching us get killed right there on screen and like,
- 2:52no, please. I think it's been like the last
- 2:55three episodes, the most recent three episodes, so like 4-5 and
- 2:59six where I literally thought, OK, this is the episode where,
- 3:03yeah, what's his name? Docky.
- 3:05Docky. Dies.
- 3:06He hasn't died yet. Spoiler but like.
- 3:11Well, this time I watched with headphones, and I watched on.
- 3:14My yeah. How was it?
- 3:15Oh my God, there's so much layered sound in this show, it's
- 3:20amazing. Right in the opening you hear
- 3:24Maul do one of his screams, but it's really low, you almost
- 3:29can't hear. And they do it twice.
- 3:31OK, I need to go back and listen.
- 3:34I do need to go back and listen you.
- 3:35Have to like really listen for it, but I was it's it's awesome.
- 3:39It's so good. The fact that they take the time
- 3:43to layer audio that much. Right, Yes, I agree.
- 3:47I agree and they they are taking time to do extras here and there
- 3:53that really do add to this show like it's it's a level above.
- 3:56I feel then like even season 7 of clone wars, which is like
- 4:00that was the that was beautiful, that was poetry, that was art.
- 4:05This, I don't know. It's just the perfect
- 4:07combination of everything that I would want in an animation where
- 4:12I found myself thinking like, I don't know that they could do it
- 4:15this well if it was live action and and I don't feel that this
- 4:19is animation. It's like some weird hybrid in
- 4:22the in the middle. Yeah, because I don't know so
- 4:25much more dynamic than they used to be able to achieve.
- 4:27Totally, yes. And even as good at, I've always
- 4:31felt Rebels was kind of a wonky looking animation style, but
- 4:35Clone Wars just kept pushing the envelope of what was possible
- 4:39and season 7 was just incredible.
- 4:41Bad Batch was also pushing it a little further.
- 4:44And this. Is just like.
- 4:46The dynamics of the action and not just how the characters move
- 4:51physically, but also how the camera angle changes with them.
- 4:56And. Stuff like skin texture exists
- 5:00now. Yes, I noticed that too.
- 5:03And it you, you don't think it matters until it does.
- 5:07Yeah, it's you're so good animation.
- 5:10Everyone's very smooth and like even toned and that Imperial
- 5:14that they bring in his skin his. Freckles and stuff.
- 5:17Yeah, yeah, there was a paleness and a ruddiness like I'm just
- 5:23like this is. So good.
- 5:25Like what the fuck? The level of details, awesome.
- 5:28It's really, it's really fun. And I feel like the action, you
- 5:31know how animated shows are, they have your short little arc,
- 5:36it's 20 minutes, you have some story and then an action
- 5:39sequence and then we close out and sometimes it gets boring.
- 5:42The action part, not in the show.
- 5:45No, that that's why I said I wasn't finding myself saying,
- 5:49OK, we can move on now. But I I haven't said that.
- 5:52Yeah, like, I forget I'm even watching it.
- 5:55That that whole fight scene in episode 6 on that tube on the
- 5:58subway with the line so good going down the side of like the
- 6:04lighting within the tunnel and then the dynamic between
- 6:09everyone fighting. And it wasn't confusing.
- 6:11It wasn't too long, at least in my opinion.
- 6:14I the lighting and the shadowing and the dynamic between.
- 6:20Well, first of all, Mall pulled Evader with his entrance.
- 6:24He has some of the most dramatic entrances in Star Wars.
- 6:29He's coming for you, Vader. He's coming for the Skywalkers,
- 6:33period. He is very dramatic in his own
- 6:37way and I I really like it. He's a level of diva I didn't
- 6:41expect until this show. We knew, we knew, but we never
- 6:46got to see. And now we know and we're
- 6:48seeing. So I'm here for the whole thing.
- 6:50Yeah, but that train, that subway sequence, one of my
- 6:56favorites in Star Wars, I don't even care, honestly.
- 7:00I think this is some of the best Star Wars we've gotten since
- 7:04Clone Wars ended, and it's really high quality production,
- 7:09but also the story is really well paced.
- 7:13It's interesting. The actors are fucking awesome,
- 7:17I agree. And every single person,
- 7:20everyone, every single one. And the thing that I'm really
- 7:23looking that's kind of coming out more in these episodes is a
- 7:27bit of. Humor, right?
- 7:30Yeah. The awkwardness between the
- 7:32captain's son and Devin when they're like, let's let the
- 7:36adults talk, the grown-ups have to talk.
- 7:39That is such a real scene. Like.
- 7:42He's just like, fumbling and being awkward, like, oh, there's
- 7:45a girl in my room and I don't know what to talk about.
- 7:47And she, you know, like. She, you know, her language.
- 7:50She's like, like what? Like sports?
- 7:55Yeah, right. Or I felt that.
- 7:58No, Well, no. I think my my childhood was a
- 8:02lot different than yours. It's like, yeah, yeah.
- 8:06And then there's like a little bit of back and forth between
- 8:09Lawson and Daki when they're kind of catching up with the
- 8:11kids. They're kind of Yep, you know,
- 8:14is that supposed to make me feel better?
- 8:15Yes, it is. Yes, it is.
- 8:18It made me feel like that was a bit of the like Han Solo and
- 8:22Luke Skywalker humor that sometimes missing from Star
- 8:27Wars, like the more current Star Wars.
- 8:30And I it just, I'm really just loving how it's paced.
- 8:35Well, it's well written and I'm excited to see where it goes.
- 8:39I don't really have any story nitpicks at all.
- 8:43I kind of want to talk about when the Empire first arrives.
- 8:46Yeah, yeah, good. Go, go.
- 8:48Because I was thinking we should talk about the Empire.
- 8:51I just love how they portray it as like it just comes and covers
- 8:53everything when the Star Destroyer arrives but the whole
- 8:58interaction between Cleese or Klyce, whatever.
- 9:02Lawson's boss I I I'm not sure how to pronounce her name.
- 9:07They both don't want the Empire there, but I think neither one
- 9:11understood how bad it actually was going to be, I think.
- 9:16That. She probably didn't expect to be
- 9:18tortured immediately. No, I mean, for the people who
- 9:22aren't right there, we'll say in the front lines who see the
- 9:27Empire, they have probably have a perception of what the empire
- 9:30is, oh, just another entity taking over, blah, blah, blah.
- 9:34Until it's in your face and you realize these are really, really
- 9:37bad people and they do not give a fuck and.
- 9:40The minute they saturate the planet like they're never
- 9:44leaving again, and they spread out so fast, so quickly.
- 9:47Yeah, and they don't care about decorum, they don't care about
- 9:52rights, they don't care about privacy.
- 9:55Everyone is suspicious to them. And God, did it really hit home?
- 10:03Yeah, you know what I mean? Do you know what I mean?
- 10:05There were moments where I almost felt choked up a little
- 10:08bit because it's. Bad.
- 10:11Yeah, And like the line where Devin says isolated, none of us
- 10:14stand a chance against them. And her Master is trying to
- 10:18comfort her, saying I have seen tyranny come and go, like, try
- 10:21not to lose hope. It was very interesting.
- 10:24It was so well done. Yeah.
- 10:26I needed that line, I know. I did.
- 10:29I did too. I didn't even know how much I I
- 10:31needed it. It was beautiful.
- 10:33I hate the Empire. I do.
- 10:36I always talk about. I always joke about the Empire.
- 10:40I want to wear their capes and I want to hang out with Chronic
- 10:44One. Just one night.
- 10:45Just one night. Neither of us will remember it
- 10:48when I leave in the morning, but just one night.
- 10:50But like, I really don't like those motherfuckers, you know
- 10:53what I mean? It's fine when it's in a movie,
- 10:55but if you were to think about it like as your actual life,
- 10:58it's a fucking nightmare. This is it's a nightmare.
- 11:02Yeah. And in keeping with that, I
- 11:06thought this was a really, really cool detail that they put
- 11:09in. But also I was just like, that's
- 11:11really horrific. When he sits down at the
- 11:13interrogation table and sees her fingernail marks in the metal.
- 11:18Oh yeah, yeah. Not good, not good.
- 11:22And then when the Inquisitor comes up and puts his hands on
- 11:25Lawson's shoulders, I was like, this is fucking creepy.
- 11:29Very well done, I love it. But also.
- 11:30Very well done. I really did like Malik.
- 11:33Is it Malik? Malik.
- 11:36Merak. Merak.
- 11:38Damn it. OK, Merak.
- 11:39I knew it was. I was close.
- 11:40But I really do like his helmet and his whole like attire.
- 11:45The way he sounds, the way he stands.
- 11:48But I had to look this up. We don't know what Jedi he.
- 11:51Was. No, I don't think so.
- 11:53We just know that he was a Jedi. And he's also called the first
- 11:57brother, right? That's right.
- 11:59Yeah. And he was in Ahsoka.
- 12:02Yeah, Ahsoka ends his ass, so I'm here for all of it.
- 12:06So we know, we know we're going to get ours when he when it
- 12:10comes around for him. So I'm not worried about him.
- 12:13But we also know he's going to live through this though.
- 12:17Correct. He's way scarier in this than he
- 12:20was in Ahsoka, I just have to say.
- 12:22Well does that mean that Ahsoka is scarier or I mean.
- 12:27I just think the way it's portrayed, I mean is like, he's
- 12:31way more frightening in this. I didn't feel afraid of him in
- 12:35Ahsoka. I thought it was more like, who
- 12:36the hell is that guy? Like someone take his mask off
- 12:39so we can see who he is. Someone come get your unk.
- 12:45Whose uncle is this? But yeah, I know.
- 12:49I I think, I think they were a good match.
- 12:52When mall. I mean, let's give Devin some
- 12:54credit here. She's holding her own.
- 12:56Yeah. I have a girl crush on her.
- 12:59I want to be her when I wake up when I wake up.
- 13:04I want to be her when I grow up or wake up one of the two.
- 13:10Every morning I just. I love her so much.
- 13:15I do too. I kind of get every ounce of
- 13:18where she's coming from. I get her frustration, I get her
- 13:23impatience with her master's patience.
- 13:27She's not old enough to appreciate it and understand it.
- 13:31But she's not wrong with trying to reason through like we have
- 13:36to do something. It's the wrong time.
- 13:39It her thinking is correct. It's in the wrong time.
- 13:43Like it's too soon to be doing that.
- 13:45You still got to go into hiding. We don't have a rebellion.
- 13:47We don't even have and or you know, we need that to start
- 13:51first before you can come out of hiding.
- 13:53But right now it's extremely dangerous and I feel bad for her
- 13:57because I know what it's like to want to do good, but you just
- 14:00can't right now. It's too dangerous, you know
- 14:02what I mean? It's just I feel her frustration
- 14:05and the anger that's building. I hate that because it's not a
- 14:11good sign, but you know. Yeah, I thought it was really
- 14:17interesting when Daki was talking to Lawson and he said
- 14:21that like we've experienced what can only be called a purge.
- 14:25Yeah. And Lawson seems surprised by
- 14:28that. He had no idea.
- 14:30You're saying like we don't have any rebellion or anything yet.
- 14:33It's like they like what really happened hasn't even reached the
- 14:37far corners of the Galaxy yet. And then when Lawson said, I
- 14:42heard someone describe whatever this person was as an
- 14:47inquisitor. Daki seems surprised by that.
- 14:50These concepts are very new in the Empire, so there isn't
- 14:55anywhere for like, Devin to turn to like at the Rebellion.
- 14:58It's not an option right now. No, all lines are silent, all if
- 15:03there's anyone surviving they're all laying low.
- 15:06I guess what I'm trying to say is I understand her and the the
- 15:09problem she's in. I like that they're really
- 15:13fleshing it out too, because she's not rushed.
- 15:16Yeah, this quiet moment where he's like, I can tell you're
- 15:20struggling with something. And I like that.
- 15:22Unlike Anakin and Obi one where they just don't.
- 15:24Talk. Yes.
- 15:26Like, they actually talk and she says what she's feeling and the
- 15:29confusion that she says, I'm feeling confused.
- 15:33And it's just really interesting to see that both Mal and Daki
- 15:39are kind of fighting for her soul.
- 15:41And actually, holy shit, this all kind of makes sense.
- 15:44All of a sudden. There's one little second right
- 15:47before when they're fighting on the subway where she cuts the
- 15:52the train car loose and the Inquisitor gets left behind for
- 15:55like, yeah, 3 bars of music, maybe Battle of the Heroes kind
- 16:00of place. Oh.
- 16:01Yes, I heard that. I knew that.
- 16:03Yes, yes, yes. So cool.
- 16:05It's interesting because that's kind of like a flipped concept
- 16:09of Duel of the Fates. Is it Battle of the Heroes or
- 16:13Duel of the Heroes? I can't remember what the one
- 16:15from Revenge of the Sith is what?
- 16:17I know what you're talking about.
- 16:18Yes, yes. Yeah, so it's like they're
- 16:20connecting. These concepts are like a
- 16:23musical motif, and so it'll be really interesting to see what
- 16:27happens with Devin because she's kind of like the Anakin
- 16:32character being pulled in two directions, either by Sidious or
- 16:36Obi Wan. And now she's, you know, her
- 16:39Master or mall. And I'm very excited to see
- 16:42where it goes because Moll makes a lot of sense.
- 16:45He does, He does. There's something very seductive
- 16:48about that tea set, I'm telling you.
- 16:51And. I know, sorry.
- 16:54I'm still thinking about it. It's.
- 16:56Obviously one of our patrons, Moll, can make me tea anytime.
- 17:00Amen. I agree with that statement.
- 17:02I know that statement, yes. So can we talk about Mall and
- 17:07his little practice, his solo practice?
- 17:09Yes, please. How cool was that?
- 17:14So unexpected. I meant to look up and I didn't
- 17:18beforehand if it was mocap because they did use mocap for
- 17:21him in season 7 of Clone Wars. OK it.
- 17:24Looks like Ray Park, but I don't know if they're using him
- 17:28anymore because he's kind of like he's crazy a little bit,
- 17:31but. Yeah, yeah, he's a little out
- 17:33there, yeah. But it has that whole distinct
- 17:36mall way of moving from episode 1, you know, like from he has
- 17:40the handout, yes, yes, the meditative yes, with the like
- 17:46hand in. Yes.
- 17:48We're acting it out for a podcast.
- 17:50No one can see it. We're both doing the motions,
- 17:56not as well as mall either. We just look like we're we're
- 18:00offering a treat to each other. Would you like some tea or tea?
- 18:12Please and thank you. Yeah, I, I just loved it.
- 18:17It was very meditative. It was very centering, grounding
- 18:207 chakras. I was, I'm here for Grounded
- 18:24Mall. It was so cool.
- 18:27It was also neat though because he was injured and they showed
- 18:31us while he was having his leg worked on and he was in pain.
- 18:35Like visibly in pain and I feel like this doing the katas was to
- 18:40reconnect and make sure that his knee wasn't going to
- 18:43incapacitate his ability to fight.
- 18:46That's what I took it as too, but what a great reason to throw
- 18:51something like that in. Yes, because Clone Wars never
- 18:54showed us anyone recovering from an injury and like reconnecting
- 18:58with their power like this. It was so great to see it
- 19:01finally. There was never a solo moment of
- 19:06anyone just kind of like playing with their lightsaber, trying to
- 19:10get reacquainted with their mentals or their physicals of,
- 19:15you know, any reconnect with themselves.
- 19:18We didn't get any of that. Shut up and take my money.
- 19:22If you ever do that with Obi Wan Kenobi, I would die for that.
- 19:26Please don't dangle that carrot. Give us something like this that
- 19:32they just showed of mall. Just like all I need is that you
- 19:35don't have to make a story around it.
- 19:36Nothing. Just give us that Obi.
- 19:39Wan 26.4 seconds of Obi Wan doing what mall's doing.
- 19:46Oh my God. I might.
- 19:50Pass away. I might pass away now just with
- 19:53the thought. It was so cool.
- 19:56I'm here for all of it. I'm here for it.
- 19:59Yeah, it was really cool. I liked seeing too that he's not
- 20:01impervious, that he was actually injured, right?
- 20:04And. We knew what Mother Talzen did
- 20:07to reconnect his like nervous sister, his nerves to the
- 20:12remember those like tentacle. Yeah, they're like connections.
- 20:16They put like wires out of the ship and use them.
- 20:19Yeah. So I thought that the little
- 20:21tiny shock of the electricity went through him and I said that
- 20:25is such a smart it's not just legs, they're prosthetics that
- 20:29are connected. To him, I mean like all the way
- 20:30up to his waist, basically Waist down, he's machine.
- 20:36He's literally more like Vader than ever.
- 20:40Yeah. And I have, we have things to
- 20:42talk about with that, but I don't know if we want to jump to
- 20:45it. Is that or is that the end of
- 20:48Season 6? Yeah, we'll get to it.
- 20:50We'll get to it. We'll get to it.
- 20:51Yeah. I mean, you're going to be on
- 20:53the same page with this one, methinks.
- 20:56Anyway, before we get there, I'd like to talk about Lawson's wife
- 21:01making an appearance. Oh yes, yeah, that was
- 21:04interesting. That was very that was curious.
- 21:09I thought it was a nice touch because she knelt to meet her
- 21:15son at his level. Yeah, that was cool.
- 21:18We haven't seen anyone do anything like that, really.
- 21:20And we? Don't, and I don't know why it
- 21:24stuck out to me, but it was. It was actually very warm.
- 21:28And even though she obviously works in some capacity in the
- 21:33Empire, she got on his level to talk to him like a parent, not
- 21:38as someone from the Empire, you know what I mean?
- 21:41Yeah. Which means she may not have
- 21:44lost herself yet to it, but we don't know what her what her
- 21:48rank is, what her constraints are.
- 21:50We don't know how she's going to factor in more in this story,
- 21:53the sun is kind of a dynamic wild card of like, how is this
- 21:57going to pan out? But I think it the whole thing,
- 21:59the layers of it, is very interesting.
- 22:02It's so interesting, it kind of reminded me a little bit of Tala
- 22:06from the Kenobi series. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:09She said that she volunteered before she realized what was
- 22:13really happening. So there are people in the
- 22:16Galaxy who think, think that the Empire is there, like there, she
- 22:20said to her son. If there's troopers there, it's
- 22:23for your protection. Do what they tell you.
- 22:25And it's so naive. It is, but wouldn't you say that
- 22:29even if you did know that they were terrible?
- 22:32I don't know. But she she probably doesn't
- 22:34know that they're terrible. That's kind of the implication I
- 22:37think for her. It will be interesting to see if
- 22:39they flush it out more. It kind of reminds me of not
- 22:41every German in the German army was a Nazi.
- 22:46Right. You know, there are probably
- 22:49people who work for the Empire, especially at the beginning.
- 22:53I'll say at the beginning, after a while, there's no denying
- 22:57what's going on out there. People just turning a blind eye
- 23:01to it. Yeah, or or they're like Cyril
- 23:05and his mother, where they actually believe in what the
- 23:07Empire is doing. But that's that's.
- 23:10Off the other deep end. She still has.
- 23:13It's still early enough in the Empire that I don't remember
- 23:16what the mother's name is, but that she could possibly change
- 23:20sides again. They haven't said it was an
- 23:23ideological thing that split her and her husband up.
- 23:26Right, that's true. But we know we're we know we're
- 23:30lost in stance. Yeah, because he says you don't
- 23:33know what the empire's like or you, you these aren't the people
- 23:36you think they are, he said. Some version of that.
- 23:40So I think it would be cute, Very, very cool and interesting
- 23:45if Lawson and the wife come to a decision, like the wife has to
- 23:50make a decision. Your family is now being hunted.
- 23:53Are you going to stay with the Empire?
- 23:55Are you going to come help? Them they could go either way.
- 23:58I know, I know, I know. There's no good answer here
- 24:01because then she'll be haunted, but at least she'll be loyal to
- 24:04her fucking family. And her son Riley kept saying,
- 24:08like, what are you doing, dad? That's the Empire is.
- 24:10That his name. Riley yeah, right.
- 24:13And it's because he's still doesn't realize that it's not
- 24:17just the government. It's not just, you know, the
- 24:19police showing up. It's an oppressive system.
- 24:23He thinks, you know, he can still function within it or,
- 24:26like, doesn't realize how bad it is.
- 24:28So he's really surprised when his dad fights back.
- 24:31He doesn't even realize that just being with the Jedi is
- 24:35enough to make him guilty. Right, right.
- 24:39And I felt really bad that they did go to Lawson.
- 24:43They have nowhere else to go and that he really is a good person.
- 24:46And I'm sure that donkey can can feel it, sense it, you know, the
- 24:51fact that he tried to take Maul out, you know, the enemy of my
- 24:55enemy as a friend or whatever the whole thing is if they want
- 24:58to go that route. But like, he's obviously a good
- 25:00person that is fighting on the correct side of a Jedi, you
- 25:04know, for standing for the same things.
- 25:06But man, they everywhere they go, you know, they take more
- 25:11casualties with them because they are the haunted.
- 25:16They are enemy #1 if you will. And that was so interesting
- 25:20about Devin's conflict because she could see like their life is
- 25:26now going to be 1 of begging for scraps and being on the run and
- 25:30being hunted and never feeling safe again.
- 25:34And no wonder she feels like maybe teaming up with Maul would
- 25:39be a better option for them. Like I don't blame her.
- 25:44That sounds like a pretty awful future.
- 25:47If that's as a Jedi, a passive Jedi, if that's all you have to
- 25:51look forward to, that sounds kind of scary.
- 25:53You never feel at peace again. You'll always be sleeping with
- 25:56one eye open. And not only that, they didn't
- 25:59even know there was such a thing as an Inquisitor.
- 26:01Now they know that there's one. At least one, if not more.
- 26:05Well, and it would be worse to be captured by one than to be
- 26:08killed by 1, and they don't know that yet either.
- 26:11Don't forget they're they're going to be put into whatever
- 26:13that goo is at the bottom of the fortress.
- 26:16Yeah, I know. That's what I always think they.
- 26:18Don't know that. You don't know what they'll do
- 26:20to you if they catch you and like, decide to do some sort of
- 26:22weird fucking experiment. There's worse things than dying.
- 26:28Honestly though, honestly this is not a Galaxy I would want to
- 26:31be a part of at the at this moment.
- 26:35Yeah, I mean, it's fun as a movie, but when you think of
- 26:37what the characters are really going through, you'll never be
- 26:40the same again. No, the stakes are way too high
- 26:43and you just went through one of the most traumatic purging of
- 26:47your own kind. Like yeah, I would doubt
- 26:51everything. These kind of stories are
- 26:53they're so fun to watch stories like this, but when you think of
- 26:57them as reality. It's reality, it's bad.
- 27:00Yeah, it's it's not super fun. Well, I really, really liked
- 27:04watching Devin and Moll fight together.
- 27:07She is really a badass. She she even had like a little
- 27:10bit of rage in her when she was on the rooftop.
- 27:15I loved it though I did for the rage.
- 27:18It works for her. She was.
- 27:20Awesome. She was really powerful and when
- 27:24she jumps onto the the airship and like uses the force through
- 27:29the glass on the trooper inside, it's just like, this is amazing.
- 27:34I I honestly thought that was that was really cool for someone
- 27:38her age And I don't like, you know, we're looking at like
- 27:42Ahsoka levels of adapting, if you will, to the the situation
- 27:46as it unfolds. But she didn't have the
- 27:49dysfunctional the the the family of dysfunction ahead of her.
- 27:54Like, yeah, the disaster trio. That was that was what I was
- 27:59looking for. Devin doesn't have that.
- 28:03And she's still badass. So, you know, it seems to me
- 28:07like Donkey makes good decisions.
- 28:09He. Seems like a great master.
- 28:11Yeah, I mean he. And who's his voice actress?
- 28:14We talked about him. I can't remember.
- 28:15I'm terrible with names. The voice.
- 28:17Actress. The voice actor.
- 28:19My gosh. It's Dennis Haysbert.
- 28:22Dennis. That's it, perfect voice.
- 28:25Every time he speaks I'm like, this man is nailing this.
- 28:30I know I was. He's very soothing.
- 28:32He's very reassuring and and. He's a good Jedi.
- 28:35Yeah, and just having his voice, every time he speaks, it's like,
- 28:39oh, that feels like something you can hold on to, which is why
- 28:42I'm afraid he's not going to make it.
- 28:45Listen, we know who's who makes it to the end here, and it's
- 28:49none of these people. I know it's true.
- 28:51It's. All included, I do find it.
- 28:57Speaking of getting to the end, I find it interesting that Mall
- 29:01is doing with Devin what he will try to do with Ezra.
- 29:05Which means. Yeah.
- 29:06Where is Devin? Yeah.
- 29:08I know I've had this thought so many times of like, you're not
- 29:12in Rebel, so are you? OK, we're worried.
- 29:17What happens? I I have theories but it's too
- 29:22soon to even say anything. Yeah, I know.
- 29:25I worry for them all. I know.
- 29:27I do too. I'm emotionally connected to
- 29:29these folks now. I know I like it, though.
- 29:32It's been such a long time since I've really cared.
- 29:35Yeah, and it it feels good to have some.
- 29:38This just feels like Clone Wars quality carrying on and and I'm
- 29:44just as engaged. I liked Rebels, but it didn't
- 29:47engage me as much as Clone Wars did.
- 29:50I think it's really, really telling if you can bring in a
- 29:54whole new cast of brand new characters and 456 episodes into
- 30:00its first season, we give a shit like this.
- 30:02It's a good sign. I'm telling you, I'm here.
- 30:06And I also love that these Jedi, as bad as as they are, all the
- 30:10stuff they're bringing, it does not undermine anything that's
- 30:13come before it. Oh no, that's very true.
- 30:16That's very true. You know, sometimes they'll
- 30:18throw in something weird and new that it's like, well, we want an
- 30:23Anakin or like the most powerful Jedi ever.
- 30:25Why didn't they ever do that? You.
- 30:27Know it's like it's very true. That's a good point.
- 30:29They're not doing that. It's all very consistent and in
- 30:32keeping and I I really feel like Daki especially does feel like
- 30:37there's something like Qui gon esque about him to me that yeah,
- 30:40he's he's. An old school, like he's from
- 30:43the The Republic era of Jedi. And it's familiar to us as the
- 30:49watcher, the the, the viewer, the the long standing, you know,
- 30:53Star Wars fan. It's a familiar kind of comfort
- 30:57blanket, baby blanket. Like I recognize this.
- 31:01This is a Jedi, you know. It's so true.
- 31:06That's exactly how I feel. You feel like hit the nail on.
- 31:10That Well, thanks. It's the, it's the feeling, the
- 31:14emotion, you know, And I don't know how to put it into words.
- 31:16It's just don't die. I know we've been here a long
- 31:20time. Don't take our comfort blanket
- 31:23away from us. But it is Star Wars.
- 31:27Yeah. So it will be painful.
- 31:29It's going. To be without a doubt, and soon
- 31:33without a doubt, it will be very painful.
- 31:34Soon we've got only, what, 4 episodes left and oh.
- 31:39God, how how quickly things pass.
- 31:42The time passes so quickly. Well I am glad that there's a
- 31:46season 2 though because. Yeah, because now we can expand
- 31:51even more if they're doing this right out of the gate.
- 31:53Yeah, I'm excited to see what else they bring because so far
- 31:56I'm I'm invested and like you said, all new characters and
- 32:00like I was worried when it started off as like all crime
- 32:03lordship, but it's definitely. That was just the springboard,
- 32:06after all. We didn't.
- 32:07That was it. Oh, but our little funny guys
- 32:09who's still like nervous and Twittery and like, oh, I don't
- 32:12know what to do. You know that guy?
- 32:14Around. Yeah, that's fine.
- 32:15I'll just chill. Yeah, no problem.
- 32:17I'll be over here. He's nice sewer.
- 32:21I like him, I'm enjoying his character.
- 32:24I hope he has a larger role in the grand scheme of things, like
- 32:28he, like maybe he has a moment, a come, a come to himself moment
- 32:32where he makes a choice and realizes perhaps Moll is not the
- 32:36company he wants to keep. Well, we had a wondered in the
- 32:39last episode if he was kind of faking it when he went to the
- 32:43the Pikes. And it seems like maybe he was
- 32:46faking it like it was all an act because in this episode he says
- 32:49I gave you what you wanted. I played my part so.
- 32:53Let me go. He was very convincing.
- 32:57And what's crazy about Maul is he's like, yeah, you can go not,
- 33:00not, not. Nothing's keeping you here, but
- 33:02it's like. Like about him, though, it's
- 33:04like, if I leave, are you going to stab me in the back, right?
- 33:08It's like you make your own prison, but because you're
- 33:11you're too afraid of what he will do when your back is
- 33:14turned. Because it's better to keep your
- 33:17enemy in your eye shot than it is to turn your back to it and
- 33:20like chance walking away because then you can't see what he's
- 33:24going to do. It's the Godfather.
- 33:26Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
- 33:32Oh God, Can you imagine that dinner table?
- 33:35Is mall Vito Corleone then is that?
- 33:39Well, he talks like I'm almost in some scenes.
- 33:43Should we go to the end? We do.
- 33:45I was just going to say we need to talk about the last scene.
- 33:48Let's go. Merrick goes back to his Star
- 33:51Destroyer and kneels down in front of a hologram and says My
- 33:55Lord, but they don't show who it is.
- 33:58Just a little bit of a little bit of fabric is all we get.
- 34:02Cloak. Maybe a hood, I don't know.
- 34:06Who is it? Someone said it might be the
- 34:10Inquisitor, but I don't think they call the Inquisitor.
- 34:12My Lord Vader is who you call by law.
- 34:16Vader. Yes, Vader's in charge of the
- 34:19Inquisitors. Yeah, it could be Sidious, but
- 34:22why would some? Why would they go right to
- 34:24Sidious when Vader is really their their commander?
- 34:28Well, Sidious, if they're looking for mall, that's
- 34:31Sidious's old Yes, plaything. Yeah, so maybe he wants direct
- 34:37information about it. But at this point, Vader doesn't
- 34:42know where Kenobi is, and mall's a good way to to drag out
- 34:47Kenobi, if you if you will. That is a great point because
- 34:50Vader would know that there was a lot of history between Right
- 34:55Mall and Who. Would know better.
- 34:57Who would know better than the kid who was there at the
- 34:59beginning of it all? And our patron and dear friend
- 35:03Hugh made a very good point. I'm going to give him credit for
- 35:06this. I did not come up with this but
- 35:07when he said I almost lost my shit.
- 35:10Hi, Hugh. Yeah, hi Hugh, he said.
- 35:12Remember on Malachor and Rebels where Moll, quote, nearly shot
- 35:16himself at the approach of Vader?
- 35:18So does this mean that they met before?
- 35:21Meaning, is this going to come to a head right?
- 35:27I would not be upset if Moll and Vader had a showdown.
- 35:31I know some people are like, we don't need Vader in this show.
- 35:33It's like it makes a lot of sense that Vader would be part
- 35:36of this because he's in charge of the Inquisitors.
- 35:40He's in charge of the Inquisitors.
- 35:42He's he's on the brink of right after losing Kenobi and and and
- 35:47Padme and the the whole fucking thing.
- 35:50He's pissed, he's angry. We haven't gotten to the Kenobi
- 35:53series yet. So we know how single minded he
- 35:56is. Yeah.
- 35:57He's doing all this likely without Sidious really knowing,
- 36:02and he has connections to mall, like way back to the backpack.
- 36:09Yeah, and the only other person has who's cut off somebody's
- 36:13legs, Anakin and Yamal have both had their legs cut off by only
- 36:21one, so they have a bonding element.
- 36:24Trauma bonds are real in this part of Star Wars.
- 36:29Anakin wants to talk to a homie and be like hey me too bitch.
- 36:34Look at. What happened, bitch?
- 36:36Support group for. Obi Wan's carnage.
- 36:41If if Vader meets up with mall, he's going to be like, yo,
- 36:45you're never going to believe this.
- 36:47I'm Anakin. Remember, he's not going to do
- 36:52this. But like, you know, he's
- 36:54thinking I could use this motherfucker.
- 36:56Does Mall know because in season 7 remember he's true that Anakin
- 37:03was part of the plan. So does he know that Anakin
- 37:06invader are the same? That will be interesting if they
- 37:09explore that. At this point, at this point,
- 37:12it's Palpatine and Thrawn. Yeah, that's it, Thrawn
- 37:15suspects. Oh yeah, who know?
- 37:18Well then, I guess Riva knows. But she's not in the picture
- 37:22yet. You know, she's still probably a
- 37:25little kid somewhere, recovering from the first time she was
- 37:28stabbed in the abdomen. Correct.
- 37:31So I think Hugh has a point here that because there was fear in
- 37:38Rebels and Mall doesn't really get scared of anything, Yeah,
- 37:43then I think we may get a scene with those two in it.
- 37:47So I think it was Vader at the end.
- 37:49Yeah, I it would make the most sense to me.
- 37:51It could be Palatine, but it really makes more sensitive.
- 37:54It would be Vader. I'm just curious, like how much
- 37:58Vader could come into this story because, because also we know
- 38:03that Merrick, he doesn't die. What would a showdown between
- 38:07him and Maul look like? Because we know neither of them
- 38:10die. So that's less interesting.
- 38:14Then if Vader comes into the picture, that's a way more
- 38:16interesting story. Well, Vader has motivation.
- 38:20Vader has a has a motive in a means, and that's what you need
- 38:24right in a crime. Yes it is and I really would
- 38:30love to see another like another session of just Vader obsessed
- 38:36with finding Kenobi and like not caring about really capturing
- 38:41mall. He wants what Ball knows.
- 38:43But of course we know Mahl doesn't know anything about Obi
- 38:46Wan at this point. Maybe.
- 38:47Is that why this is a huge jumping ahead speculation?
- 38:51Maybe Mahl is hunting Obi Wan down in Rebels because he's
- 38:56trying to find him for Vader instead of for himself.
- 39:00Or he wants to get to Obi Wan before Vader does so he can kill
- 39:04him. Because everybody at the end of
- 39:06the day wants Obi Wan could know me, we should make AT.
- 39:12Shirt that says that at the end of the day everyone wants I'll
- 39:17be 1 kid. Actually, that would be a great
- 39:20I might make that for Star Wars Celebration next year.
- 39:23I might. Make it.
- 39:24That would be so funny. New MTK design exclusive for
- 39:30Star Wars Celebration 2027. Everyone, at the end of the day,
- 39:35everyone just wants Obi Wan Kenobi.
- 39:38That's true. Where's?
- 39:39Where's the lie? We can't blame them, us
- 39:42included. Obsession has a name.
- 39:45It's Obi Wan Kenobi. Guilty.
- 39:49Guilty as well. See, we have more in common with
- 39:53Vader than we ever thought. Yeah, well, I'm very excited to
- 40:00see what comes next. I think the show is fucking
- 40:02great. I'm really enjoying myself.
- 40:05I'm enjoying myself too. I'm here for it.
- 40:06I even if even if our series aren't even close to being
- 40:10correct, I don't care. Surprise us with something,
- 40:13don't bring invader, give us something newer or different or
- 40:18I don't care. Just do it.
- 40:20Right. I really love not being able to
- 40:23predict. That's when I feel like a show
- 40:25is really well written and very true.
- 40:29It's using enough of the cliche and motifs from Star Wars that
- 40:32we like, but they're using it in a way that I, I'm not able to
- 40:37predict what comes next. And I'm loving that I just, it's
- 40:40unfolding and the story is very interesting and I'm, I just
- 40:46appreciate being engaged by the story.
- 40:49Do you find your brain trying to make sense and look ahead and
- 40:53think like, OK, this has to happen because this person was
- 40:57at this point, at this time and then at this point, does your
- 41:00brain do that? Sometimes I have to turn it off
- 41:02when I'm watching because I'm I'm too into the Star Wars and
- 41:05not into the show You. Know yeah I'll be like oh OK, so
- 41:08now those characters are isolated together which means
- 41:11that these two characters I have to work together to find them
- 41:14and I'm like shut up brain, just watch.
- 41:16Yep, yes. Stop planning.
- 41:19I'm not alone. No, you're not.
- 41:22I'm sure there's many others out there who do that.
- 41:24But it's, it's fun. I like it.
- 41:26I'm engaged. I feel the same way you do.
- 41:29I'm looking forward to the next episodes.
- 41:30So many times when we've watched some of the newer stuff, like
- 41:34for me, it's really Mandalorian. I know a lot of people love
- 41:36that, but it's like, I don't care because you tell me I
- 41:39should. Like, I need to actually feel
- 41:41that I care, of course, because the characters engage me.
- 41:45And I know I'm kind of an outlier with that with
- 41:47Mandalorian, but like with this show, I care.
- 41:51They've gotten me engaged and I care about these characters and
- 41:55like I cared about bad bitch. But I felt like part of the
- 41:57story, like the how it tied into the larger Star Wars story, was
- 42:01interesting, but the kind of weekly problem of the month or
- 42:06problem of the week. Yeah.
- 42:09It's OK. It's the same formula with
- 42:11Mandalorian that you don't like. That's the same, yeah.
- 42:14It's the same ingredients. So I get that.
- 42:16Yeah, I get that. Whereas this I feel like they're
- 42:18actually like the story they're telling has got me engaged and I
- 42:22care and I just like, I just want to say thanks, Star Wars.
- 42:25It's nice to feel. That again, it's like visiting
- 42:30an old friend. Not just a Clone Wars friend,
- 42:33but like a Star Wars friend. Thanks for making us, our cold,
- 42:36horrible hearts feel again. No, but for real though, good
- 42:43job. It's very reminiscent.
- 42:45Remember when you first started watching Clone Wars?
- 42:47Did you love Ahsoka right away? Not right away, but I thought
- 42:52she was interesting enough that I was like, I'll give her a
- 42:54chance, just like Devin, Like, OK, I'm curious.
- 42:58Yeah, there are moments where I'm like, Oh my gosh, she's so
- 43:01annoying. And then there's moments where I
- 43:02was like, God, I really like her.
- 43:03And then by Season 2 I was like, I love Ahsoka.
- 43:06She's awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:08She was the perfect peanut butter and Jelly between the two
- 43:12stale pieces of bread. The two heels from a loaf of
- 43:19bread. I say that so lovingly.
- 43:24I love the bread. We love stale bread.
- 43:27On the outside of the peanut butter and Jelly, you know what
- 43:31I mean? So what I'm saying is, I look
- 43:38forward to the next few episodes.
- 43:47OK, our question for you, who do you think it is at the end of
- 43:52the episode, in the dark cloak of the hologram?
- 43:55Please tell us your thoughts. Is it Sidious?
- 43:58Is it Vader? Is it somebody else that we
- 44:00haven't even thought of? Please let us know and we'll
- 44:03read your comment on next week's episode.
- 44:08And our next episode will be us covering mall Shadow Lord
- 44:12episodes 7 and 8 and whatever tricks and and fabulous and any
- 44:20what stunner of an episode will be.
- 44:22What do you got for us in seven and eight?
- 44:23Because they're knocking it out of the park.
- 44:25We're going to talk about it. We hope you'll.
- 44:27Join us and our friend Line 12 has left a comment on Spotify,
- 44:35he says. Does anyone else realize how all
- 44:37the clones were made identical but tried their best to
- 44:40differentiate themselves from each other while all
- 44:43stormtroopers were different but were made to look identical?
- 44:48I think that's a fabulous point. This is a great comment.
- 44:51It's such and it right here, too, in this timeline of Star
- 44:55Wars where the Maul episodes are taking place because they're
- 44:59kind of transitioning from clones into Stormtroopers, which
- 45:03you see in Bad Batch. Yeah.
- 45:05And it is like they they become utterly faceless and devoid of
- 45:10personality to the point where there's like, the stormtrooper
- 45:13voice, you know? Right.
- 45:15Yeah. That's it.
- 45:18Yeah, Let's see. Let's see some scan docs.
- 45:20You know, like the same repetitive kind of 19. 70 or
- 45:24identification. Hey, hey, why didn't you show us
- 45:28your? It's always like the surprise,
- 45:30hey. I know, and it's so funny that D
- 45:34Bradley Baker voices all the clones and somehow makes them
- 45:37each have a unique personality. It's amazing.
- 45:40Yeah, I think it, I think it's a testament to what their autonomy
- 45:44is necessary under the Empire, because they don't give a shit.
- 45:47Yeah. But even though they were clones
- 45:50under the Republic and disregard Palpatine's influence, but they
- 45:54still had a presence and knew who they were fighting for.
- 45:59They were brothers. There was more of a familial
- 46:03sense about them and a loyalty to whoever they were underneath,
- 46:07like like Anakin, Obi Wan, etcetera.
- 46:11And this is everyone's wearing the same jersey.
- 46:13But there's it doesn't matter whose name is on it because you
- 46:17don't matter. The only thing that matters is
- 46:20the Empire, which is that's crazy.
- 46:22And the fact that they could use droids but choose to use humans
- 46:27is a very interesting and like, no longer clones.
- 46:30They're conscripting people. And it's.
- 46:34Yeah, it's a very deliberate choice.
- 46:36It's very interesting. Thank you for that comment.
