- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International. Pomoja means together,
- 0:06and that's exactly what this space is about.
- 0:09Walking together in faith, growing together through
- 0:11the Word, and living the life of Christ in our
- 0:14homes, our marriages, and our daily lives. I'm
- 0:17your host, Barry Mwamba, and in this season premiere,
- 0:21we begin our journey with a theme close to my
- 0:24heart, marriage. I believe marriage is one of
- 0:27life's greatest challenges and one of the covenants
- 0:30the enemy fears the most. Today we begin with
- 0:33part one, the house in the middle of the forest.
- 0:37This is how our marriage began, at least from
- 0:40my side. My wife will share her story in one
- 0:42of the coming episodes, after falling deeply
- 0:45in love with this intelligent, beautiful Christian
- 0:48woman from my church who is now my wife. I went
- 0:51to seek my father's counsel. Rather than asking
- 0:54about her, he looked at me, smiled, and began
- 0:57to share a story. A parable I later titled, The
- 1:01House in the Middle of the Forest. He said, Marriage
- 1:04is like a beautiful house discovered deep within
- 1:08a vast forest. A man walking through the woods
- 1:11stumbles upon this magnificent dwelling. Its
- 1:15beauty draws him in. Peeking through a window,
- 1:18he sees a couple laughing and enjoying each other's
- 1:20company, a scene so captivating that he feels
- 1:24an irresistible urge to join them. He enters
- 1:27with enthusiasm, eager to know their secret,
- 1:31how they managed to be so happy. But once inside,
- 1:34my father continued, he discovers three strange
- 1:38things. First, The door only opens from the outside,
- 1:42meaning he cannot leave on his own terms. Second,
- 1:45the windows are sealed. No escape, no fresh air.
- 1:49And third, the house is warm. Even stuffy, he
- 1:53stands there bewildered, wondering how this couple
- 1:55can be so joyful in such a confined and uncomfortable
- 1:59space. Even though my father explained the story's
- 2:03meaning that day, it took me over 20 years to
- 2:06truly understand it. Discovering God's purpose
- 2:09is a journey that unfolds over time. and the
- 2:13daily process of endurance is the most challenging
- 2:16part. It demands faith, patience, and the guidance
- 2:19of the Holy Spirit, because the outcome is determined
- 2:22by the strength of your foundation. As the psalmist
- 2:25said, unless the Lord builds the house, the builders
- 2:28labor in vain. Without God's blessing and presence,
- 2:32all human effort is wasted. If He didn't initiate
- 2:36the journey with you, it's bound to fail. When
- 2:39your path turns rocky, when fear, pain, or or
- 2:42uncertainty weigh you down. That's when God steps
- 2:45in to carry your burden. Jesus said, come to
- 2:48me all you who are weary and burdened and I will
- 2:51give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
- 2:54from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and
- 2:57you will find rest for your souls. Even in your
- 3:01darkest valley, you are not alone. As Psalm 23
- 3:05declares, even though I walk through the valley
- 3:07of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
- 3:11for you are with me. Your rod and your staff,
- 3:14they comfort me. Keep this truth close. Our plans
- 3:18only succeed when God is the foundation. When
- 3:22He is, He will make sure you reach your destination.
- 3:25Proverbs reminds us, commit your works to the
- 3:28Lord and your plans will be established. And
- 3:31Philippians 1 6 assures us, He who began a good
- 3:34work in you will carry it on to completion. If
- 3:37God began it, He will finish it. That's why I
- 3:40sought God first before I pursued marriage. I
- 3:43prayed, I fasted, and I waited until He opened
- 3:47my eyes, just as Adam recognized Eve as bone
- 3:52of my bones and flesh of my flesh. When He opened
- 3:56His eyes, I recognized my wife, not by sight,
- 4:00but by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit gently convinced
- 4:03my heart that She was the one. Isaiah says, Your
- 4:07ears will hear a word behind you saying, this
- 4:11is the way, walk in it. I believe God is a good
- 4:14father. He gives what is right because He knows
- 4:17us better than we know ourselves. Jesus said,
- 4:20If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts
- 4:23to your children, how much more will your Father
- 4:26in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?
- 4:29Not only did God place her love in my heart,
- 4:31He revealed that she was the best match for me
- 4:34with strengths I didn't even know I would need
- 4:37until the hard times came. My pastor Lawson Whitson
- 4:41often says, We even need the Holy Spirit to go
- 4:44to Walmart. It sounds simple, but it's profound
- 4:48and true. The Holy Spirit is our daily companion.
- 4:52So when I say my wife and I are filled with the
- 4:56Holy Spirit, it isn't a slogan. It's a declaration
- 4:59of dependence, because I started with God, because
- 5:03I built on his foundation, because I followed
- 5:06his direction. When the storms came, when the
- 5:08winds blew, the floods rose, and the rains beat
- 5:11against our marriage, our house did not fall.
- 5:14It stood, because it was built on the rock. Looking
- 5:17back now, years later, I realize my father wasn't
- 5:20just describing marriage. He was describing faith
- 5:23itself. A marriage built by God, not by hands.
- 5:27And I can see it clearly now. It was God all
- 5:30along. I will not leave you as orphans. I will
- 5:38send you another Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
- 5:41And you promised, in the last days I will pour
- 5:44out my Spirit on all flesh. So pour out your
- 5:47spirit on us, Lord. Fill us with your power.
- 5:50Teach us to be guided by the Holy Spirit in every
- 5:53decision we make, because one thing is certain.
- 5:57The blessing of the Lord enriches and adds no
- 6:00painful toil with it. Next time on Pomoja, we'll
- 6:03explore the deeper secrets of the house in the
- 6:05middle of the forest, where sealed windows, locked
- 6:08doors, and warm air reveal the true meaning of
- 6:12covenant and commitment. Thank you for joining
- 6:14Pomoja Podcast, where we live the life of Christ
- 6:18together. Be sure to subscribe, share, and stay
- 6:22connected for more weekly encouragement and stories
- 6:25of faith, family, and purpose. Until next time,
- 6:29walk in grace and live in purpose.
