- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, hidey-ho and good afternoon. It's a wet one where
- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm at. Ron Ferb from Tiffany Boulevard here in Boardman,
- 0:08Speaker 1: our studios. And it is raining. And we need it.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We absolutely need it. It's been awful dry. So I
- 0:15Speaker 1: had a little bit of rain this morning in my
- 0:18Speaker 1: neck of the woods. Then a delay for a bit.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Things dried out. And then, you know, I'd say around
- 0:25Speaker 1: 1 o'clock, 1.30, it started raining again. And it's still
- 0:28Speaker 1: continuing to rain. Not bellyaching about it by any stretch
- 0:32Speaker 1: of the imagination because, as I say, things were getting
- 0:35Speaker 1: awful dry. And the grass and the shrubs and everything
- 0:39Speaker 1: needs a good dose of water. So it's a good thing.
- 0:42Speaker 1: 307 in the afternoon. Nice to be with you here.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Hope you had a wonderful weekend and Father's Day weekend
- 0:48Speaker 1: as well. My top secret number, 330-729-9977.
- 0:49Speaker 2: 330-729-9977.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So much to discuss with people. As we go along
- 1:02Speaker 1: here this afternoon. So stay tuned. Let me see what
- 1:06Speaker 1: awaits me here. You're on the air. Wait, you're on
- 1:11Speaker 1: the air.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Hi, Ron.
- 1:13Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm well.
- 1:15Speaker 4: I've got some feedback for the show.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Some positive and some negative.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Let's get the negative out of the way first real
- 1:22Speaker 4: quick in case Mayor McKelvey's listening.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:25Speaker 4: He thinks there's too much talk of finance and puts
- 1:28Speaker 4: and calls on the show.
- 1:29Speaker 1: All right. Good.
- 1:30Speaker 4: So I promise, Mayor, I promise, George, this will be
- 1:33Speaker 4: the last day.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Now let me get to the positive. Your show Thursday
- 1:38Speaker 4: night with John Arnold was one of the best I've heard.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I mean, it was– I was listening to that guy,
- 1:44Speaker 4: and I said, oh, my God– I run my own
- 1:47Speaker 4: little mini hedge fund for myself, and everything probably went
- 1:52Speaker 4: over most people's heads, and I don't know if you
- 1:54Speaker 4: caught a lot of gems in there, but there are
- 1:57Speaker 4: people like Mr. Arnold that know what they're doing and
- 2:02Speaker 4: can make money, and what you want to do is outperform,
- 2:06Speaker 4: try to outperform the S & P every year. And
- 2:08Speaker 4: he threw out a figure that I thought was right
- 2:14Speaker 4: on target for a guy that knows what he's doing,
- 2:17Speaker 4: And last year, the S & P for one year
- 2:20Speaker 4: of the spiders was 25%. And last year, I made,
- 2:26Speaker 4: let's see real quick, 40%. Well, there you go. And
- 2:30Speaker 4: that's hedging through options and holding stocks. And he was
- 2:37Speaker 4: throwing gems out right and left that most people wouldn't
- 2:40Speaker 4: have picked up on. Like, for example, he's always thinking.
- 2:43Speaker 4: The mind's always going on what to do. what investments
- 2:46Speaker 4: to make, how to make money. And he talked about
- 2:49Speaker 4: when he was on vacation, he would still think about that. Right.
- 2:53Speaker 4: And that's what I was doing on the holiday. I
- 2:55Speaker 4: was playing golf, and I said, oh, the market's closed today.
- 2:58Speaker 4: What am I going to do on Monday? And he
- 3:02Speaker 4: mentioned my favorite stock. He threw out Micron Technology. I
- 3:05Speaker 4: don't know if you caught that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I know he mentioned a couple of them, yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Micron Technology is an expensive stock. It's over $ 1, 000, but
- 3:18Speaker 4: it's the pulse of AI right now. Word's going.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's $ 1, 192.
- 3:22Speaker 4: And as you know, I'm all in on AI. And
- 3:29Speaker 4: I use, I don't know, do you use AI at all?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Just as far as Google is concerned and that kind
- 3:36Speaker 1: of stuff, yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Don't use Google. Use Croc.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I mean. I mean, just in that sense. Yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 1: just the fringes of it. Let me put it that way.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Just to shoot back at you when you're talking about AI,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it's interesting you should mention it. I was watching– I'm
- 3:53Speaker 1: trying to think of the big guy with– It's not Berman.
- 3:58Speaker 1: There's another guy. He's on CNBC all the time. Starts
- 4:00Speaker 1: with a C. He's an analyst that talks. I was
- 4:03Speaker 1: listening to him over the weekend. He seems to think,
- 4:06Speaker 1: just as a side notice, we talk too much, I guess,
- 4:09Speaker 1: about this kind of stuff. He seems to think that
- 4:13Speaker 1: that whole sector as far as oil and what do
- 4:17Speaker 1: they call it? I guess oil, minerals, and electrodes, if
- 4:22Speaker 1: you will, are basically electricity and all the stuff that
- 4:26Speaker 1: you need to make stuff and oil is the sectors
- 4:30Speaker 1: to be in.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Well, I'm not in the oil sector. I'm in the
- 4:35Speaker 4: basically semiconductor AI trade. And if you look at the
- 4:39Speaker 4: big AI, there's Grok, there's ChatGPT. Grok is Elon Musk.
- 4:44Speaker 4: ChatGPT is Microsoft. Then you have Claude Anthropic, which was
- 4:49Speaker 4: a combination of Amazon, Google, and then you have Google
- 4:54Speaker 4: by itself that has Gemini, and then, of course, you
- 4:57Speaker 4: have Meta AI. Those are the big players. And you
- 5:03Speaker 4: can look at companies like Micron that supply the chip's
- 5:09Speaker 4: memory and storage. I used to play Micron back in
- 5:13Speaker 4: the day when it was $ 40 a share, $ 50. Well,
- 5:14Speaker 4: I hope.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You bought a ton of it if it's $ 1, 000 a
- 5:17Speaker 1: share now.
- 5:21Speaker 4: No, I just sold another cash-secured put this morning. I
- 5:26Speaker 4: made a strike price of $ 9. 90 before earnings, and I
- 5:30Speaker 4: made $ 6, 084 on that one contract. Look at that. I
- 5:35Speaker 4: have four contracts on Micron. I play my options through
- 5:38Speaker 4: cash-secured puts.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You know what's important for people to hear? A lot
- 5:45Speaker 1: of people that are listening don't understand what you're saying.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They genuinely don't understand it. Here's what I say to
- 5:52Speaker 1: all of them. If you don't understand it, and I
- 5:55Speaker 1: don't fully understand it either, but I'm intrigued by guys
- 5:59Speaker 1: like this on the end of my line and these
- 6:01Speaker 1: guys because when they talk about making, of course, there's
- 6:05Speaker 1: still taxes on it, $ 6, 800 in a day.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Actually, I made one other trade this morning, and I
- 6:12Speaker 4: was done by 1046. I sold a covered call on
- 6:16Speaker 4: Coinbase Global, which is I'm also into crypto. With a
- 6:20Speaker 4: 170 strike price, I made $ 1, 000 on that. So I
- 6:23Speaker 4: made like $ 7, 000 this morning.
- 6:27Speaker 1: This is why I say to so many of you listening,
- 6:30Speaker 1: this is something important for people to understand. I wish
- 6:33Speaker 1: I understood it better. I'll just tell you all of that.
- 6:36Speaker 1: When it comes to the stock market, my mentality is
- 6:40Speaker 1: buying and selling traditional stocks. My mentality is so much
- 6:44Speaker 1: different than these guys because these guys are so good
- 6:47Speaker 1: at what they do. I would always remember what Buffett
- 6:49Speaker 1: used to tell his wife. He said, listen, if I die,
- 6:52Speaker 1: just take your money and put it in the S &
- 6:54Speaker 1: P 500 index and forget about it. This is what
- 6:57Speaker 1: Buffett recommended because you got a diversity of stocks. Stocks
- 7:00Speaker 1: would come in and go and And you don't have
- 7:03Speaker 1: to worry about it so much. So I'm more of a,
- 7:06Speaker 1: from the school of Buffett, I'm more a person that
- 7:08Speaker 1: says you buy this. And, and, and what most people
- 7:13Speaker 1: would understand when I'm talking to a guy like this
- 7:15Speaker 1: or others like this, these guys are really smart folks.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That's all I'm trying to say to you. These guys
- 7:19Speaker 1: are really smart. And I sit back and say, what
- 7:23Speaker 1: a great country, you know, for these guys. They make
- 7:24Speaker 1: $ 7, 000 in a day because they understand this and they
- 7:28Speaker 1: know what they're doing. And perhaps everybody should learn it
- 7:33Speaker 1: much better than they do. I mean, we talk about
- 7:35Speaker 1: teaching economics in high school. We should really be teaching
- 7:39Speaker 1: a lot of this stuff as well. Make no mistake,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you can make a lot of money, but you better
- 7:43Speaker 1: know what you're doing because you can also lose a
- 7:44Speaker 1: lot of money, too.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 7:46Speaker 4: That's why you want to be hedged. And that's what's
- 7:49Speaker 4: so fascinating about John Arnold. You know, I hedge. I
- 7:53Speaker 4: have a large portfolio. And I always carry around my
- 7:57Speaker 4: last quarterly statements because people think I'm blowing smoke. And
- 8:01Speaker 4: I always carry around trade confirmations because my old mentor,
- 8:05Speaker 4: Kenny Schaefer, would always say, what did you do today
- 8:08Speaker 4: and show me? I would pull out my paper trades.
- 8:11Speaker 4: This is what I did when I get them in
- 8:13Speaker 4: the mail. But we've had guys in Youngstown, like Tony LaRuscia,
- 8:18Speaker 4: remember him?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:20Speaker 4: The Merrill Lynch stockbroker, financial advisor that was the big philanthropist.
- 8:26Speaker 4: He helped, what did he give, $ 4 million to YSU?
- 8:29Speaker 1: All kinds of money, yes. All kinds of money, yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 4: And he helped a lot of people. He had a
- 8:34Speaker 4: great family. There were a lot of talented people like him.
- 8:38Speaker 4: And I think it's their occupation, and for me personally,
- 8:43Speaker 4: I've been doing it for over 50 years. It's my hobby,
- 8:46Speaker 4: and it's just what I do.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're good at it. You know, I say
- 8:51Speaker 1: it often. You know, John does a show Thursday night.
- 8:54Speaker 1: He always wanted to have his own hedge fund, which
- 8:56Speaker 1: he has. But I say this. You know, John's been
- 8:58Speaker 1: doing a financial show on the station for a lot
- 9:00Speaker 1: of years. And I say this. John's made a lot
- 9:04Speaker 1: of people a hell of a lot of money, just
- 9:06Speaker 1: average people that invested with him. He made them a
- 9:09Speaker 1: lot of money.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I am..
- 9:13Speaker 1: Pleasantly surprised how many people are so grateful to John
- 9:16Speaker 1: Arnold for just enhancing their retirement years tremendously.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Ron, there are a lot of people that there's a
- 9:22Speaker 4: way to hedge and grow their funds. And I say
- 9:25Speaker 4: for the majority of the people, if you're under 50
- 9:28Speaker 4: years old, you have a young family, pay your mortgage off,
- 9:32Speaker 4: take care of your family. Don't worry about trying to gamble.
- 9:35Speaker 1: In the marketplace.
- 9:37Speaker 4: But for the people over 50 and retired that have
- 9:39Speaker 4: a lot of money and you want to grow it
- 9:42Speaker 4: and hedge it and protect it, the number one way
- 9:45Speaker 4: to do it is people like John Arnold. And I'm
- 9:48Speaker 4: not plugging him because.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It's just a fact. But you know he knows what
- 9:52Speaker 1: he's talking about. But I would tell you this much.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I would have total confidence in you as well. Believe
- 9:59Speaker 1: me when I say it. tell you that. I wouldn't
- 10:01Speaker 1: have a problem with you as well. But you've got
- 10:04Speaker 1: to remember, you've got to be able to have enough
- 10:06Speaker 1: money to where if you make it, great. If you
- 10:08Speaker 1: lose it, it's not going to put you under. Let's
- 10:12Speaker 1: put it that way.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:13Speaker 4: That's why the first thing is get a probe, folks.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Don't listen to anybody on the radio. Get a professional.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Unless you really know what you're talking about, you have
- 10:23Speaker 4: the funds and you can show the results. Right.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But I would do this. I'd keep a lot of
- 10:30Speaker 1: the results if I was you to myself, as opposed
- 10:32Speaker 1: to unless you're talking to your family and close friends.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Outside of that, it's really nobody's business.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Most people know me, and I'm a frugal cheapskate.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Right, but I mean..
- 10:42Speaker 4: Believe it or not, all of my capital and money
- 10:47Speaker 4: was Charles Schwab and Fidelity out in California and Texas.
- 10:52Speaker 4: But anyway, getting back to... the ways you can hedge,
- 10:57Speaker 4: and most people think, and John mentioned shorting, but I'm
- 11:00Speaker 4: sure he was talking about shorting through options with the
- 11:03Speaker 4: S & P. You could protect, if you have a
- 11:06Speaker 4: portfolio of a million dollars, you can use the spiders
- 11:10Speaker 4: and buy 13 contracts to hedge, to protect you in
- 11:16Speaker 4: a down market. Now, when I say a down market...
- 11:19Speaker 4: A 1% correction a day or a 5% correction a
- 11:23Speaker 4: week is nothing. I'm talking about 20% to 30%. That's
- 11:27Speaker 4: when protection really kicks in. And you can buy these puts.
- 11:31Speaker 4: You can buy the S & P spider puts to
- 11:34Speaker 4: protect you.
- 11:35Speaker 1: You need somebody that knows what they're doing like you.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And like Arnold has that hedge fund now, but... Yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 1: there's like four requirements. It's not out of the realm
- 11:43Speaker 1: of possibility for a person that has a couple hundred thousand.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You could put a hundred thousand in it if you
- 11:49Speaker 1: have that. There's some criteria to get into it, legally
- 11:52Speaker 1: some criteria to get into it.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it used to be a hedge fund. You'd have
- 11:57Speaker 4: to have over so many million, and it was the
- 11:59Speaker 4: big boy.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Well, he designed this one, and it's all through how
- 12:04Speaker 1: the system is so that it doesn't fall in that category.
- 12:08Speaker 1: If you listen, he really started this hedge fund for
- 12:11Speaker 1: people that aren't multimillionaires. I mean, it's real, and that's
- 12:16Speaker 1: why you can get into it for, what, $ 100, 000 or $ 200, 000.
- 12:19Speaker 1: But there's four criterias. If you meet any one of
- 12:22Speaker 1: the four, you can be one of the 100 investors
- 12:24Speaker 1: in it.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Right. You want to be making a certain income. You
- 12:29Speaker 4: don't want to be in debt. You don't want to
- 12:31Speaker 4: have a huge mortgage. But there's all kinds of ways to..
- 12:37Speaker 1: But I'm sure there's days you lose money, though, too.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Ron, let me tell you, there are days when I've
- 12:43Speaker 4: lost $ 300, 000.
- 12:45Speaker 3: In a day.
- 12:46Speaker 4: And back 20 years ago, I would have lost sleep
- 12:49Speaker 4: over and killed myself. But now it's just part of
- 12:52Speaker 4: doing business. I mean, it's up, it's down. And it's
- 12:56Speaker 4: like today's rotation. It was classic sector rotation. All of
- 13:01Speaker 4: the techs were down like 2% to 4%. And with
- 13:06Speaker 4: the exception of Apple, Apple was up. But everything else,
- 13:10Speaker 4: and the certain chips like Micron was up big because
- 13:15Speaker 4: they're coming out with earnings in two days.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'm sure that's the future. AI is the future, whether
- 13:20Speaker 1: people like it or not. But I also say... I
- 13:24Speaker 1: try to think of that guy's name if I come up.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I'll mention it on the air. He's one of the
- 13:28Speaker 1: big guys I see on CNBC. He seems to think
- 13:31Speaker 1: people should definitely be in the oil and what do
- 13:34Speaker 1: you call it? You know, like the minerals and oil, minerals,
- 13:39Speaker 1: and electrodes, I think is what they say. Basically, electricity
- 13:43Speaker 1: and all the minerals that you need for stuff as
- 13:46Speaker 1: well as oil. He seems that there's such a shortage.
- 13:50Speaker 1: There's a huge shortage and such a huge demand. It's
- 13:53Speaker 1: a sector he thinks is pretty good.
- 13:56Speaker 4: That's because of the data centers. You're going to need
- 13:59Speaker 4: lots and lots, even though Musk is going to put
- 14:01Speaker 4: them in space. I hate to tell it to you, too.
- 14:05Speaker 4: I know he doesn't like data centers, the pollution. They
- 14:08Speaker 4: ruin everything. It's just the fact that they're here and
- 14:11Speaker 4: they're going to expand.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Right, and everybody's going to use it.
- 14:14Speaker 4: They're going to make a lot of noise. They're going
- 14:16Speaker 4: to use a lot of electricity and water, and they're
- 14:19Speaker 4: going to be bad, but they're going to make a
- 14:20Speaker 4: lot of people a lot of money.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:23Speaker 4: And they're also going to help people.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I use AI a lot in financial information. I was
- 14:31Speaker 4: amazed at the information I can get.
- 14:34Speaker 1: That's outstanding.
- 14:35Speaker 4: It's fast. Yes.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Outstanding.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Outstanding. I got a world of respect for you, just
- 14:40Speaker 1: so you know. I really do. You're a smart guy.
- 14:44Speaker 4: If George is listening, no more talk of puts.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Well, all right. Thank you, my friend. Appreciate it.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Back in a minute. youngstown's news weather and talk station
- 14:56Speaker 1: 570 wkbn i tell you you'll i really think that
- 15:01Speaker 1: some of this stuff should be taught better in schools
- 15:04Speaker 1: these days including basic economics for people how to manage
- 15:09Speaker 1: money and this kind of stuff as far as uh
- 15:13Speaker 1: spending it and saving it and uh Really, you shouldn't
- 15:18Speaker 1: be able to get out of high school without understanding
- 15:20Speaker 1: some basic fundamentals, Roth IRAs, and just planning for your retirement.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You get in a guy like that first caller, that
- 15:27Speaker 1: guy's just really, really, really, really smart. And obviously, he
- 15:33Speaker 1: wasn't born that way. He had to learn all of that.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And it certainly has paid off for him in his life.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You're on the air.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Hey, Ron, how you doing?
- 15:43Speaker 1: See, we go from one extreme to the other. We
- 15:45Speaker 1: go from that first caller who's very, very smart and
- 15:48Speaker 1: did a lot with his life. Now we go to
- 15:49Speaker 1: Bubba Ganoush.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Thanks for the compliment.
- 15:53Speaker 1: You're more than welcome. Thank you for calling.
- 15:55Speaker 3: The more I listen to you, the more I want
- 15:56Speaker 3: to commit suicide.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Well, I don't want you to do that.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Well, then don't talk bad about me.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I wasn't talking bad. I was just saying we went
- 16:07Speaker 1: from this caller.
- 16:07Speaker 3: That was stupid.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Did I imply that?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yes, you did.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I said I just went from this really very intelligent caller,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and now we go to you.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, the guy that tells you about things is right.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Like Rush Limbaugh. Like I'm 98% right when I tell
- 16:28Speaker 3: you something's going to happen.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You know, oddly enough, this is maybe your psychic. I
- 16:32Speaker 1: was just so weird just talking. I was just talking
- 16:34Speaker 1: with Chief Engineer John Clark during the end of the
- 16:37Speaker 1: Clay and Buck show. And we were both sitting here
- 16:40Speaker 1: talking about how Rush Limbaugh was really one of a kind.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I really wish Rush was still around. I'd be curious
- 16:45Speaker 1: what he has to say about so much of this stuff.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Well, it's information he got from God, remember?
- 16:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I mean, he was just... Rush was really good at
- 16:54Speaker 1: what he did, and I just can't make the connection
- 16:59Speaker 1: with Clay and Buck. I mean, Clay and Buck certainly
- 17:02Speaker 1: aren't Rush Limbaugh. I mean, Rush Limbaugh is.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Just a— There's no connection at all.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Right, in a league of his own, let me put
- 17:07Speaker 1: it that way. People that have been around a long time,
- 17:10Speaker 1: there'll never be another Paul Harvey. There'll never be another
- 17:13Speaker 1: Rush Limbaugh.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Hey, Ron, if you could ever play that thing you
- 17:17Speaker 3: constantly played on, Paul Harvey, there was a segment on
- 17:21Speaker 3: If I Was the Devil.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:23Speaker 3: If you can play that, I mean, that lines up
- 17:26Speaker 3: everything right now. You know, and he did that, what
- 17:29Speaker 3: was it, back in 1964?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Yeah, pull that out and play it every now and
- 17:34Speaker 3: then if you want to. At least once a show
- 17:36Speaker 3: to let people know that, you know, if I was
- 17:40Speaker 3: the devil, you know, and then he says what he does,
- 17:43Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, my, this is what's happening now.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yep.
- 17:46Speaker 3: You know?
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 17:48Speaker 3: But, yeah, so you had a nice Father's Day?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yes, I did. Yes, I did. So, let's see. Father's
- 17:57Speaker 1: Day was... Actually, kind of Saturday and Sunday. It was
- 18:02Speaker 1: really good. Yes, I got my... I got chicken francais.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You know, I mentioned we get it to go over
- 18:11Speaker 1: to Anton's Kitchen in Boardman. Chicken francais. It's the Saturday
- 18:15Speaker 1: special for $ 13. 99. And it's just delicious. So I got
- 18:20Speaker 1: to enjoy some of that. Stand by. Back with Bubba
- 18:23Speaker 1: Ganoush in a minute. And more of your calls on
- 18:26Speaker 1: NewsRadio 570 WKVN. NewsRadio 570 WKVN.
- 18:27Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:27Speaker 1: 335 here on a Monday afternoon. Okay. Speak your piece, please.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Let me go on a couple things. Number one,
- 18:41Speaker 3: in Arabic, the food that represents mother is leaven, which
- 18:48Speaker 3: is yogurt that you eat as an appetizer. And then
- 18:54Speaker 3: the food that represents father is baba ghanoush. How about that?
- 18:58Speaker 3: So that was kind of ironic.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Very odd.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. So anyhow... On that note, the other thing
- 19:07Speaker 3: I want to mention is the memorandum of understanding. Only
- 19:13Speaker 3: Trump knows what's going on. I can tell you that
- 19:15Speaker 3: right now. So he's not going to screw us. So
- 19:19Speaker 3: everything's going to be okay. Thirdly, the Guardians are playing
- 19:23Speaker 3: in Chicago at 740, which doesn't interrupt your show. And
- 19:28Speaker 3: Williams is pitching against Kaye. And the weather's perfect. You know,
- 19:33Speaker 3: sunny and 60 degrees, 66 degrees out there. So it
- 19:37Speaker 3: should be a good game tonight.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Let's hope for a victory. I'm all for it.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Well, I'm looking for a sweep, okay, because their hitting
- 19:46Speaker 3: is there. They just got to wake it up.
- 19:48Speaker 2: That's all. All right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Thank you, Bubba Ganoush. Appreciate it. You're on the air. Hello. Hello.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yes. Yes, this is Brian Massey with the Committee to
- 20:00Speaker 2: Abolish Ohio Property Taxes.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Hi, Brian Massey. This is the man behind the ground zero.
- 20:07Speaker 1: This is the man behind the constitutional amendment, getting the
- 20:12Speaker 1: signatures for getting it on the ballots next year, right?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Yes, that's the reason for my call, Mr. Verb. I
- 20:22Speaker 2: wanted to make sure that all the patriots in your...
- 20:26Speaker 2: the listening audience have the truth of what's happening. I
- 20:32Speaker 2: did make an announcement that we don't have our 620,000
- 20:38Speaker 2: signatures yet, which was our goal, to get it on
- 20:40Speaker 2: the November 2026 ballot, but all of the signatures are
- 20:45Speaker 2: still good, and then we're going to continue to collect
- 20:48Speaker 2: signatures to get it on the November 2027 ballot. Many
- 20:52Speaker 2: people are thinking just because we didn't get it on
- 20:55Speaker 2: the 26th ballot, that we're just going to fold our
- 21:00Speaker 2: pretend and go home and nothing could be further from
- 21:02Speaker 2: the truth. We've made the promise and the commitment to
- 21:05Speaker 2: the citizens of the state of Ohio, and we're never
- 21:09Speaker 2: going to break a promise. We're going to keep collecting signatures.
- 21:13Speaker 2: We just need their help to sign the petition.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Absolutely. Sign the petition. Now, how many signatures do you have, Brian?
- 21:25Speaker 2: Well, let me address that. I get that all the time.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And here's the reason that I don't give out the
- 21:33Speaker 2: signatures by county.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Not by county, but you had a press conference. The
- 21:39Speaker 1: one you had before this last one.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I gave out a 305,000 number.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And I'm asked that all the time. You know, how
- 21:49Speaker 2: many signatures do we have? And... I gave that number,
- 21:56Speaker 2: but that's the last time I'm going to give a
- 21:58Speaker 2: number because whether people know it or not, we are
- 22:02Speaker 2: at war. We are at war with our legislators, our
- 22:05Speaker 2: executive branch, and our judicial branch, and the state government.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And when you're at war, you never give the enemy
- 22:11Speaker 2: any intel. Now, that may sound harsh, but when I've
- 22:15Speaker 2: got politicians such as senators saying, that are poisoning the well,
- 22:22Speaker 2: telling the citizens and the politicians in Lake County specifically,
- 22:28Speaker 2: don't support this amendment, don't sign the petition, and tell
- 22:31Speaker 2: 100 people that you know not to support this amendment. Unfortunately,
- 22:38Speaker 2: I've come to the conclusion, Mr. Verb, that we're being
- 22:41Speaker 2: run by a bunch of socialists down there in the statehouse,
- 22:44Speaker 2: and I ask the question, two questions I ask. Is
- 22:48Speaker 2: private property ownership important? And the second question I ask,
- 22:54Speaker 2: is our 250-year experiment, is it over? If people do
- 23:02Speaker 2: not see the importance of private property ownership and what
- 23:08Speaker 2: is happening as our government, our state and local governments,
- 23:14Speaker 2: they have grown to the size that the Public sector
- 23:17Speaker 2: has outgrown the private sector's ability to pay for services.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And that was told to me by a former state
- 23:29Speaker 2: rep and Lake County Commissioner, Ron Young, on his last
- 23:32Speaker 2: day of office as commissioner. And he asked me to
- 23:35Speaker 2: record him. And what I heard him say, and I've
- 23:38Speaker 2: got it on video, he said, the two top priorities
- 23:41Speaker 2: of government is to protect itself and to grow. And
- 23:45Speaker 2: that's been in my head ever since he mentioned it
- 23:50Speaker 2: to me. And I'm going to try to develop some
- 23:54Speaker 2: statistics to show people how our government in the state
- 24:01Speaker 2: of Ohio and our local governments continue to grow. And
- 24:05Speaker 2: we can't sustain it. And for politicians to say that
- 24:09Speaker 2: if a senior can't afford their property taxes, they should
- 24:13Speaker 2: sell their home and move into an apartment, and that'll
- 24:16Speaker 2: help with the housing shortage in Ohio. I find that
- 24:19Speaker 2: to be very cold and appalling.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 24:23Speaker 1: I do as well. But, you know, 305 signatures is
- 24:26Speaker 1: a lot of signatures. You want to double that, though.
- 24:29Speaker 1: You would like to get to, what, 600,000 signatures?
- 24:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, 620. But, Mr. Perlman, when you think
- 24:37Speaker 2: about it, When you think what the founders of this nation,
- 24:44Speaker 2: what many of our citizens have given up in the
- 24:47Speaker 2: many wars, the World War II, look what all of
- 24:51Speaker 2: those veterans did to give us this freedom and liberty.
- 24:55Speaker 2: This is more than a dollar and cent issue, Mr. Verb.
- 24:58Speaker 2: This is a freedom and liberty issue, and people must
- 25:01Speaker 2: understand that. So in World War II, look at all
- 25:05Speaker 2: the sacrifices. In Vietnam, in the Korean War, and in
- 25:10Speaker 2: the far too many wars in the Middle East, what
- 25:13Speaker 2: they have given up. And all we're asking people, and
- 25:18Speaker 2: we're saying, well, getting 620,000 signatures, that's really too much.
- 25:23Speaker 2: That's asking way too much. That's nothing compared to what
- 25:28Speaker 2: the people have done over the years. To give us
- 25:32Speaker 2: our freedom and liberty.
- 25:34Speaker 1: All right. Right. Oh, I think it's doable. You're overshooting
- 25:40Speaker 1: a mark on 600-something thousand. You just got a buffer
- 25:42Speaker 1: in there, which is an important thing to have. That
- 25:46Speaker 1: is correct.
- 25:48Speaker 2: We do believe. Now, I know the fear-mongering will continue,
- 25:54Speaker 2: and they'll say, well, we're not going to have police
- 25:56Speaker 2: and fire, and our schools are going to close down,
- 25:58Speaker 2: and Well, we say to our legislators, please follow your
- 26:04Speaker 2: oath of office. And that oath of office, they are
- 26:07Speaker 2: supposed to follow the Ohio Constitution. Article 6, Section 2
- 26:14Speaker 2: of the Ohio Constitution says that it is the state's
- 26:17Speaker 2: responsibility to fund the schools. And what they have done
- 26:21Speaker 2: is they've pushed it off into the local communities. The
- 26:25Speaker 2: other thing that they have done that people are not
- 26:27Speaker 2: aware of is that was in 2011, Governor Kasich, in
- 26:32Speaker 2: order to solve a shortfall in the state budget, they
- 26:37Speaker 2: cut the local government fund, which pays for police, fire,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and roads. And they've never increased those funds. But we
- 26:49Speaker 2: are number one in something in the country, and that
- 26:52Speaker 2: is the funding for public libraries. The state legislators are
- 26:57Speaker 2: spending more money on public libraries than they are local
- 27:00Speaker 2: government funds. So we have to wake the people up
- 27:07Speaker 2: to say, do you want to save freedom and liberty
- 27:11Speaker 2: for future generations? That's really what it's coming down to.
- 27:15Speaker 2: And ask yourself... Why is Ohio, why don't we really
- 27:19Speaker 2: lead the nation? Why are we always following what another
- 27:24Speaker 2: state is going to do? Do we have leaders or
- 27:29Speaker 2: do we have followers?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Listen, you're singing in the choir here because I say
- 27:36Speaker 1: it all the time. We have made it difficult. You
- 27:40Speaker 1: often talk about senior citizens. I'm here to say we've
- 27:43Speaker 1: made it difficult for young people to be able to
- 27:45Speaker 1: buy a home. Because when you take a look at
- 27:50Speaker 1: the inflated price, I'm not even talking about the interest rate.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Because when I was young, if you got a 6.5%
- 27:56Speaker 1: interest rate, you thought you were doing pretty good. I mean,
- 28:00Speaker 1: it wasn't like the negative it is today. So forget
- 28:04Speaker 1: the interest rate. It's just how expensive the inflation on
- 28:07Speaker 1: the home. Now, there's many arguments that I hear. like, oh,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it was so much easier for the boomers and that
- 28:13Speaker 1: kind of stuff. Well, it's all relevant to how much
- 28:16Speaker 1: money you were making a year and what the house cost,
- 28:18Speaker 1: just as it is today. So it probably is more
- 28:22Speaker 1: difficult today based on these inflated prices that we got
- 28:25Speaker 1: going on. But with that being said, we're making it
- 28:28Speaker 1: difficult in large part because a large part of that
- 28:31Speaker 1: monthly payment is property taxes. For young people, Brian. I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 1: if you take a look, they were relatively insignificant for many,
- 28:40Speaker 1: many years. People didn't pay much attention to it. And
- 28:44Speaker 1: now you take a look at it, and all of
- 28:45Speaker 1: a sudden you realize, oh, by the way, if you
- 28:47Speaker 1: buy this house, here's what your payment is for your mortgage,
- 28:51Speaker 1: but also built in to what you've got to give
- 28:54Speaker 1: the bank is through your escrow accounts, maybe $ 300, $ 400
- 28:58Speaker 1: a month in property taxes on top of the payments. Well,
- 29:01Speaker 1: now that can be the game changer in whether people
- 29:05Speaker 1: can afford that particular home because you've still got maintenance
- 29:09Speaker 1: on the home and utilities on the home.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:11Speaker 1: So I agree.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I mean, I've talked to many of the young people
- 29:18Speaker 2: in the under 40 age years of age. And it's
- 29:22Speaker 2: now they're saying to me, well, they just the opportunity
- 29:26Speaker 2: to buy their first house. So, you know, they're they're frustrated.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But why would they why would the younger people why
- 29:33Speaker 2: would they stay in Ohio? If they can't get the
- 29:36Speaker 2: American dream in a while, you know, they're in. be
- 29:40Speaker 2: moving to Tennessee or some of the other states. Right.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Well, a lot of people are moving. Tax-wise, it's better,
- 29:47Speaker 1: many people say, in South Carolina, North Carolina. But let's
- 29:50Speaker 1: be realistic. In Ohio, our property values are still, you
- 29:54Speaker 1: can still afford a home there. Certainly in this community here,
- 29:59Speaker 1: and I'm not talking about in the inner city, I
- 30:01Speaker 1: mean in the suburbs, it's still affordable to be able
- 30:04Speaker 1: to buy a home versus California, versus Vegas, versus some
- 30:09Speaker 1: sections of Florida, where you're looking at even more just
- 30:13Speaker 1: to purchase the home. You follow me? Absolutely. I'll be
- 30:18Speaker 1: the first guy to say Ohio's not a bad place.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Ohio weather is pretty decent weather. I mean, I don't
- 30:25Speaker 1: mind the Ohio weather. I don't mind the change in seasons.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I think Ohio is a nice place to be, and
- 30:31Speaker 1: I think housing is still a realistic thing for most
- 30:35Speaker 1: people to be able to afford a home in Ohio
- 30:38Speaker 1: that has a yard and some area to be in.
- 30:41Speaker 1: So we're not in a bad spot as far as
- 30:44Speaker 1: that's concerned, but we're making it so difficult based on
- 30:49Speaker 1: incomes and how much of your monthly payment is property taxes. So,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just talking about young people being able
- 30:56Speaker 1: to get into a home, just as we talk about
- 30:58Speaker 1: old people being able to stay in their home. This
- 31:01Speaker 1: is not how this should work. This is ridiculous. Government's
- 31:05Speaker 1: gotten too big, Brian. It's doing too much and it's
- 31:07Speaker 1: costing too much money. And frankly, we simply can't afford
- 31:11Speaker 1: to keep putting that burden on all our citizens.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Period. 100%. 100% agree. I asked the question of our
- 31:21Speaker 2: leaders in the state, the income taxes, and I don't
- 31:29Speaker 2: think I've really talked to anybody throughout the state, the
- 31:32Speaker 2: average citizen, where they're saying, well, I want my income
- 31:36Speaker 2: taxes to be gone. uh... so i i i don't
- 31:40Speaker 2: understand and even the income tax is bringing in about
- 31:43Speaker 2: ten point nine billion dollars and uh... i remember when
- 31:47Speaker 2: i have to the of a big rama for me
- 31:49Speaker 2: why he wants to eliminate income tax and how they
- 31:51Speaker 2: going to replace those dollars and that's what i always
- 31:54Speaker 2: get and that's how you can replace the property tax
- 31:58Speaker 2: dollars and his response to me was well we're going
- 32:00Speaker 2: to replace into the same way you can replace the uh...
- 32:03Speaker 2: the property taxes so he didn't have an answer other
- 32:06Speaker 2: than you know, it's the statement of we're going to
- 32:11Speaker 2: eliminate the income tax for the state of Ohio because
- 32:14Speaker 2: other states are doing it. And is that the way
- 32:18Speaker 2: to go? I dare say that I think they should
- 32:23Speaker 2: be focusing on the property taxes, to be sure. And
- 32:27Speaker 2: I think the state legislators need to increase the local
- 32:32Speaker 2: government fund distribution, because there's no problem in generating revenue
- 32:37Speaker 2: in the state. It is a spending problem and a
- 32:41Speaker 2: prioritization of how they're spending the money, in my opinion.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Well, I think you're spot on. I think you're spot on.
- 32:49Speaker 1: And if you can get to, well, as I understand it,
- 32:53Speaker 1: I'll just put it out there, I understand we've met
- 32:56Speaker 1: the requirements of having enough signatures in the 44 counties.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, we blew by that some time ago.
- 33:03Speaker 1: So now it's just a matter if we collect more
- 33:06Speaker 1: signatures in Mahoning and Trumbull and Portage counties and those
- 33:10Speaker 1: kind of areas, it doesn't matter. We don't need to
- 33:13Speaker 1: collect signatures from the other 44 counties or worry about that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Now it's just the quantity of signatures that we need
- 33:20Speaker 1: that can be from one area.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's 100% correct. But I want to say Mahoning, Trumbull,
- 33:28Speaker 2: And thanks to you, and Denise DeFavio, and Mark Grangerstein,
- 33:32Speaker 2: and all of the other patriots, and Madeline, and throughout
- 33:36Speaker 2: the state, that they're great patriots. And they are committed
- 33:44Speaker 2: to getting this across the finish line for the people.
- 33:48Speaker 2: not only of Mahoney and Trumbull, but for all of
- 33:50Speaker 2: the state of Ohio. And that's what we want. We
- 33:52Speaker 2: want freedom and liberty for this and future generations.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Just to give people the opportunity to vote on it.
- 34:01Speaker 1: That's what you're saying. We want to put it on
- 34:03Speaker 1: the ballot, give you the chance to vote on it.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It's as simple as that.
- 34:08Speaker 2: The polls are saying that 60 to 70 percent of
- 34:12Speaker 2: the people at the polls that we have heard, those
- 34:14Speaker 2: are not our polls, that... If 70% of the people
- 34:18Speaker 2: would vote to abolish it, that means people are very,
- 34:21Speaker 2: very serious about this, and they want their freedom and liberty.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Brian, I'll tell you, I don't think government's going to
- 34:27Speaker 1: be happy until they have all of your money.
- 34:30Speaker 2: It's never enough. You're right.
- 34:33Speaker 1: It's just totally and completely out of control. And I
- 34:35Speaker 1: sit back and say, look at the burden it is now.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I can't imagine. Where's it going to be 10 or
- 34:40Speaker 1: 15 years from now for your adult children at that time?
- 34:44Speaker 1: This is ridiculous.
- 34:45Speaker 2: 100%.
- 34:47Speaker 1: 100%.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I thank you so much.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I know. I have a world of respect for you
- 34:53Speaker 1: and what you're doing, admiration for you, and you don't
- 34:57Speaker 1: know how much respect and love I have for you.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You're a great American, and I thank you for your call, Brian.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Appreciate you.
- 35:02Speaker 2: God bless you, and I'll keep you posted as we
- 35:04Speaker 2: move forward.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Please do.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Thank you, Brian.
- 35:05Speaker 1: All right. Brian Massey, truly a guy trying to make
- 35:08Speaker 1: our lives better. We'll be back. All right. You're on
- 35:11Speaker 1: the air. Hello.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Hello. Yes.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Hello.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Ron.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I'll be brief. This it's been a while for me
- 35:28Speaker 2: to get back to you on this. The last election
- 35:30Speaker 2: cycle with Shepard.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Yes. You mean for commissioner?
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:37Speaker 1: OK. Sure.
- 35:38Speaker 2: So. So I agree with a lot of things that
- 35:41Speaker 2: you said.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Do me a favor. Just stand by for one second.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Let me get my news out of the way. I've
- 35:48Speaker 1: got to do that, and then I'll come right back
