- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, happy to be here. Ready to learn some Malay time words? Lucas: Absolutely. Today we're going to talk about two simple but powerful words: 'sekarang' and 'nanti'. Luna: Sekarang and nanti. What do they mean? Lucas: 'Sekarang' means 'now', and 'nanti' means 'later'. Let's start with 'sekarang'. Luna: Sekarang. Now. Lucas: Yes. So if you want to say 'I want to eat now', you can say 'Saya mahu makan sekarang'. Luna: Saya mahu makan sekarang. I want to eat now. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's try 'nanti'. 'Nanti' means 'later'. For example, 'Saya mahu minum nanti' — I want to drink later. Luna: Saya mahu minum nanti. So I want to drink later. Lucas: Exactly. And you can also use 'nanti' in goodbyes. 'Jumpa nanti!' means 'See you later!' Luna: Jumpa nanti! See you later! That's easy. Lucas: Let's practice with a little scene. Imagine we're at a café. I say 'Saya mahu kopi sekarang'. Luna: I want coffee now. So you're thirsty now. Lucas: Right. And you can say 'Saya mahu air nanti' — I want water later. Luna: Saya mahu air nanti. Good. So now and later are opposite. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: sekarang. Luna: Sekarang. Lucas: Nanti. Luna: Nanti. Lucas: Saya mahu makan sekarang. Luna: Saya mahu makan sekarang. Lucas: Saya mahu minum nanti. Luna: Saya mahu minum nanti. Lucas: Jumpa nanti. Luna: Jumpa nanti. Lucas: You got it. Now, a quick honest thing — if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many of these.
