Des Moines Water Works is accelerating phase two of its lead service line replacement program, targeting five new neighborhoods including Drake, Chautauqua Park, and others, as part of a $12.1 million federal and state-funded effort to protect kids from lead exposure. Already, 120 homes have been upgraded—thanks to a surprise discovery that 65% of lines were already replaced.
