- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to KFI AM 640, the Bill Handel Show
- 0:04Speaker 1: on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Again, the law having a hard time keeping up with
- 0:15Speaker 2: what's happening. In this case, the technology of the computers.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Interesting questions, all of those. And I'm going to pretend
- 0:21Speaker 2: I know the answers. And you're going to say, wow, Bill,
- 0:24Speaker 2: I didn't know that. Good for you. Thanks for telling
- 0:27Speaker 2: me that.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Another day that ends in Y. And now, Handle on
- 0:32Speaker 3: the News.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handle.
- 0:36Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Morning, everybody. Handel here on a Friday morning, August the 28th.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And we start a Friday show. First, a quick hello. Anne,
- 0:50Speaker 2: good morning. You were at SoFi last night. Good morning.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Who won, the Chargers or the Rams? The Chargers. No,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry, the Rams. Oh, yeah. I won the Chargers.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Not that it matters.
- 1:03Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It's all exhibition stuff. Do any of the major players
- 1:07Speaker 2: even go out there? They do, yeah. For the first
- 1:10Speaker 2: couple of downs in the first quarter, Justin Herbert threw
- 1:16Speaker 2: a 65-yard touchdown. Okay. Which is why he's the quarterback
- 1:24Speaker 2: and everybody else is not. True. The lead quarterback. All right.
- 1:29Speaker 2: So much for that. And so Ann is exhausted. She
- 1:31Speaker 2: didn't get home until midnight. Woke up again at three.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And so we were talking about that. It does suck.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It does suck. I mean, when you're in your 20s,
- 1:42Speaker 2: you can pull that off. When you're in your 30s, harder.
- 1:46Speaker 2: By the time you hit your 40s, man, you don't
- 1:49Speaker 2: want to get anywhere near there. Neil, good morning.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Okay, I'm done. That's it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: What did you want me to say? You said good morning.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I said good morning.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, good morning. Will, you're wearing your 49ers, what, T-shirt?
- 2:05Speaker 3: It's a T-shirt. Yep, they beat the Raiders.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Woo-hoo. Woo-hoo. Although I am going to start watching football.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I actually have become a fan. I never was a
- 2:15Speaker 2: fan of football. Oh.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Football or food-ball?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I follow football far more than food-ball.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And usually I go once a year, I go to
- 2:26Speaker 2: a game with my daughter, Barbara, but she's gone. So
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'm not going to do that. Oh, you know what
- 2:33Speaker 2: I should do? You know what we should do? And
- 2:36Speaker 2: maybe auction it off is auction off a football game
- 2:42Speaker 2: with me coming. We, that is, you come with me
- 2:47Speaker 2: to the game at SoFi.
- 2:51Speaker 3: With all of us?
- 2:52Speaker 2: No, no, not with all of you. Not even with me.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So I will be offering a game with me, without me.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And we'll see what kind of money we raise. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 2: that would be great.
- 3:04Speaker 3: You're damn right.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Because I heard, you know, we air the Chargers, so.
- 3:08Speaker 2: That is absolutely true. So we can get tickets. That's true. Okay, Kono. Wow,
- 3:15Speaker 2: short sleeve today.
- 3:16Speaker 3: It's hot. Sun's out, guns out.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Boy, is it hot. Okay. And then we go to
- 3:21Speaker 2: Amy and talk about how hot it is. It's a schvitz. Oh,
- 3:25Speaker 2: it was a schvitz yesterday. Oh, my God. It was
- 3:28Speaker 2: so schvitz-y yesterday. Today, it's going to be a hot
- 3:33Speaker 2: and a schvitz. It's going to be hot and schvitz-y.
- 3:35Speaker 3: We got rain yesterday. A few drops.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Did you get much?
- 3:39Speaker 4: I got a few drops at my house.
- 3:41Speaker 3: They were big alligator teardrops.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Oh, Kono, we haven't done the promos yet or
- 3:48Speaker 2: the drops talking about the weather. And every time that
- 3:54Speaker 2: Amy goes to weather and talks about how hot it
- 3:57Speaker 2: is and whatever the temperature is, today you have to
- 4:00Speaker 2: do that drop. It's hot and it's a schvitz. Huh.
- 4:05Speaker 2: You have that out there.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Just trying to keep it fresh.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Just not trying.
- 4:09Speaker 2: To overuse them. No, there's no reason to keep it
- 4:11Speaker 2: fresh because we don't do it often enough. Every day. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 2: it's Schvitzageddon. It's summer. But it's a Schvitz. Okay, we
- 4:21Speaker 2: don't have to do it's hot, not a Schvitz. I
- 4:23Speaker 2: get that in the summer, but doing is hot and
- 4:26Speaker 2: a Schvitz.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Oh, that one.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Schvitzorama.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Handel's not big on subtleties, Kono. He literally brings old
- 4:37Speaker 5: jokes back to life.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Clear.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Schvitz. No, that's not true. Hey, I just flew in
- 4:44Speaker 2: from Las Vegas and boy, my arms are tired. Yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Wow.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I don't do old jokes, do I? Bad Catskill humor.
- 4:57Speaker 2: All right. So much for that. You know, horse walks
- 5:01Speaker 2: into a bar. Bartender goes, why am I? What a
- 5:05Speaker 2: long face.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Okay.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Enough of that. Um, what else are we talking about
- 5:14Speaker 2: before we're going to, uh, set a load everybody and, uh,
- 5:18Speaker 2: we've got the weather it's going to be, well, how,
- 5:20Speaker 2: how hot is it going to be today, Amy?
- 5:22Speaker 6: Uh, it's going to still be up to, uh, it
- 5:24Speaker 6: could still get up to like one 13 for, uh,
- 5:27Speaker 6: the valleys where Ann lives in Woodland Hills, uh, about
- 5:31Speaker 6: a hundred for the Metro areas.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And then we'll start to cool down a little bit.
- 5:35Speaker 2: It was pretty bad. Hot and a schvitz. Exactly. Hot
- 5:40Speaker 2: and a schvitz. My dogs go out occasionally. They're very
- 5:43Speaker 2: inside dogs. So there's a dog door. So they went out.
- 5:46Speaker 2: They go out there outside and do their thing outside
- 5:49Speaker 2: and come running back in. So they were out literally
- 5:52Speaker 2: for 45 seconds and ran back in. I've never seen
- 5:55Speaker 2: a dog sweat.
- 5:56Speaker 3: In 45 seconds.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Okay, guys, you ready to do it?
- 6:04Speaker 6: Yep.
- 6:05Speaker 2: It is time for Handle on the News on a
- 6:08Speaker 2: Friday morning, August 28th, with Amy, Neil, and me, lead stories. Well,
- 6:16Speaker 2: the mediators are sitting down. Tehran is mediating, theoretically, with
- 6:25Speaker 2: everybody else, particularly Qatar. And they're focusing on reopening the
- 6:31Speaker 2: Strait of Hormuz. But wait a minute. The Strait of
- 6:34Speaker 2: Hormuz is already open, isn't it? I thought the Strait
- 6:38Speaker 2: was open. I thought the U.S. controls the Strait. Okay.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Although more ships are passing through. But the embargo is
- 6:49Speaker 2: still on, I believe, with the U.S. embargoing all the
- 6:52Speaker 2: ports and closing down the Iranian port. So something's going
- 6:56Speaker 2: to have to happen. there's no way. Right now, all
- 7:00Speaker 2: military action is on hold. And so, you know, hopefully
- 7:04Speaker 2: something comes up and out of it. And the closer
- 7:08Speaker 2: we get to the midterms, the more pressure you're going
- 7:11Speaker 2: to see on the Trump administration to get some kind
- 7:14Speaker 2: of a deal going to open up the strait, even
- 7:17Speaker 2: to the exclusion of the nuclear deal and certainly the
- 7:23Speaker 2: disarmament that's never going to happen and.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Aren't we already really close to the midterms?
- 7:30Speaker 2: We're about, what, 90-something days, a little over three months.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I think it's less than that.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's less than that.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's getting– we'll see what happens. And at this point,
- 7:42Speaker 2: the president really isn't– doesn't seem to be caring very much.
- 7:47Speaker 2: He has said, I don't care about the midterms, although
- 7:49Speaker 2: he's starting to go out and he is starting to– well,
- 7:52Speaker 2: at least he did in the primaries– going out there
- 7:55Speaker 2: and pitching for his selected candidates. 67 days. 67 days? Wow.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Nine weeks.
- 8:05Speaker 6: I was just going to say, he's going to care
- 8:08Speaker 6: a lot more when he loses the House and Senate.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah. And the Republicans are not going to be very
- 8:13Speaker 2: happy with him because he's spending a lot of time
- 8:17Speaker 2: on renaming the Kennedy Center. That's, yeah, that's important. All right,
- 8:22Speaker 2: moving on.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Conditions in Nepal, devastating. And there's a lot of people
- 8:30Speaker 6: in the U.S. who are waiting for word of what
- 8:34Speaker 6: happened to their loved ones who were caught in the
- 8:36Speaker 6: deadly flash flooding and mudslide along the Nepal-Tibet border. There's
- 8:41Speaker 6: a couple of sisters in Texas, Shreye and Ashna Ahurja.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Their parents traveled from Texas to Mount Kailash on a
- 8:52Speaker 6: group pilgrimage. And they haven't heard from them since. More
- 8:56Speaker 6: than 1,500 are missing now, including tourists from U.S., Australia, Canada, India,
- 9:03Speaker 6: and the U.K. More than 500 have been confirmed dead now.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's going to go up 1,300. Missing is
- 9:12Speaker 2: not a good sign at all. If you saw the mud, well,
- 9:16Speaker 2: you did see the mud. You saw the video. of
- 9:19Speaker 2: this thing is amazing. So there was a wall of water,
- 9:23Speaker 2: 140 feet high. I mean, that's a movie, end of
- 9:29Speaker 2: the world movie, a post-apocalyptic or apocalyptic movie. And it was,
- 9:36Speaker 2: thank you very much. Hey, it's early, it's early. It was,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'd never heard of a, I have never heard of
- 9:43Speaker 2: a glacier just letting go. And that seems to be
- 9:47Speaker 2: what happened. A glacier just let go and it melted
- 9:53Speaker 2: or started to move down the mountain about, I don't
- 9:57Speaker 2: know what, eight miles away, something like that, before it
- 9:59Speaker 2: hit that village. before it hit that building we saw.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And it was extraordinary.
- 10:05Speaker 6: I saw a video yesterday that was so amazing because,
- 10:07Speaker 6: you know, we saw the video of people running as
- 10:12Speaker 6: this massive wall of mud and debris comes at them.
- 10:15Speaker 4: And you can tell they just get swallowed up in it.
- 10:18Speaker 4: But there was somebody holding a phone. and running away
- 10:22Speaker 4: and they.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Were able to get up to higher ground enough that
- 10:26Speaker 6: they got away from it. And I just like, can't
- 10:28Speaker 6: even imagine how fast they had to go and that
- 10:32Speaker 6: they survived it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah. And who takes out a phone at that point?
- 10:35Speaker 4: That was the other thing I was thinking.
- 10:37Speaker 7: Crazy, crazy. All right, let's do one more before we
- 10:39Speaker 7: take a break. What's in a name? Trump said it again.
- 10:42Speaker 7: He loves naming things and you'll be Peter and Susan. Um,
- 10:47Speaker 7: He said Thursday he's renaming Lake Ontario, as we had
- 10:50Speaker 7: heard before, to be known as Lake America. United States,
- 10:56Speaker 7: you know, going back and forth with the trade wars
- 10:58Speaker 7: with Canada. And the president signed this executive order directing
- 11:02Speaker 7: the Interior Department to update the lake's name in the U.S.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Geographic Naming Service. So, of course, you know, it's not
- 11:10Speaker 7: like you can force Canada.
- 11:12Speaker 2: To follow along. It's going to be Lake Ontario for
- 11:15Speaker 2: everybody else in the world. But it's no small deal
- 11:18Speaker 2: in terms of the cost of these things that all
- 11:20Speaker 2: the maps have to be redrawn. All of the maps
- 11:24Speaker 2: that the government puts out have to be redrawn. And,
- 11:26Speaker 2: of course, the website has to be, and that's not
- 11:29Speaker 2: that hard to make, to redo the website. But Lake Ontario. And,
- 11:33Speaker 2: you know, stuff like this has become literally a joke.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's now Lake America. Okay. Lake Ontario has been known
- 11:41Speaker 2: as Lake Ontario for 400 years. That's all. Just 400 years.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Remember Cape Canaveral became Cape Kennedy? And then they turned
- 11:51Speaker 2: it around because that name had been around for hundreds
- 11:55Speaker 2: of years, way prior to the United States or the
- 11:59Speaker 2: first Americans on the Mayflower coming over Jamestown. And the
- 12:04Speaker 2: authorities figured out, okay, man, we can't do that one.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So it became the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So maybe there'll be some kind of that maybe there'll
- 12:18Speaker 2: be some kind of a compromise. Maybe it'll be the
- 12:22Speaker 2: American bait store at Lake Ontario.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Why didn't he just call it Lake Canada is lame?
- 12:32Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:34Speaker 3: That would hurt. That would hurt a little more.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it does. I mean, it doesn't stop. It does
- 12:39Speaker 2: not stop.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Got some new COVID shots coming. The FDA has greenlit vaccines.
- 12:44Speaker 6: An updated coronavirus vaccine for higher risk Americans, older adults,
- 12:50Speaker 6: and people with at least one underlying health condition. That's
- 12:53Speaker 6: according to the manufacturers, Pfizer, BioNTech, and Moderna. They make
- 12:59Speaker 6: the mRNA vaccine. They have an updated formulation that's supposed
- 13:04Speaker 6: to better target the coronavirus variants that are circulating around
- 13:09Speaker 6: the country. They also cleared an updated vaccine from Sanofi,
- 13:13Speaker 6: which doesn't use mRNA technology. It was originally licensed as Novavax.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Has everybody had it?
- 13:26Speaker 4: COVID or the vaccine?
- 13:28Speaker 3: COVID. Has everybody here had COVID?
- 13:31Speaker 4: I don't know if I officially had it. I think
- 13:32Speaker 4: I had it.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 13:34Speaker 6: But I didn't get it until like two years later.
- 13:36Speaker 6: I never had it during the height of everything.
- 13:38Speaker 5: As far as I know, I've never had it unless
- 13:41Speaker 5: I got it before we knew about it prior to
- 13:44Speaker 5: my 2019 surgery.
- 13:47Speaker 6: My friend got it in January. We went to Reno.
- 13:53Speaker 6: We came back and she was sicker than she's ever been.
- 13:56Speaker 6: And it Sounded like classic, but it was before we
- 13:58Speaker 6: even knew.
- 13:59Speaker 4: There was such a thing, really.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Yeah, but it had to have been here. I mean,
- 14:04Speaker 5: you have time, but yeah, I think that's strange. I
- 14:06Speaker 5: don't think my wife's had it either, but our boys
- 14:08Speaker 5: had it.
- 14:10Speaker 4: No fun.
- 14:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Judge says Trump's name should stay off the Kennedy Center.
- 14:16Speaker 3: So this is going back and forth.
- 14:17Speaker 5: This is an effort to inscribe President Trump's name on
- 14:21Speaker 5: the JFK. Center for the Performing Arts. It's been stalled.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Just yesterday, a federal judge asked officials to delay the
- 14:30Speaker 5: project while he considered a legal objection from a Democratic lawmaker.
- 14:36Speaker 5: So they talked about that inscription, which Handels mentioned, that
- 14:41Speaker 5: it was renovated and restored by President Donald Trump and
- 14:44Speaker 5: all that. And then this hearings, the judge, Judge Cooper,
- 14:49Speaker 5: is telling the Justice Department lawyers that unless they agree
- 14:52Speaker 5: to the delay of the inscription, he might have to
- 14:54Speaker 5: just issue a ruling blocking the center from moving forward
- 14:58Speaker 5: at all.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that great? And the Trump administration also threatened
- 15:03Speaker 2: that if the name is not put on, that Trump
- 15:06Speaker 2: may just tear it down. And here's what's interesting, I find,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and that is we're back to gaslighting. And that is
- 15:13Speaker 2: one of the reasons we want to redo it is
- 15:15Speaker 2: because there are so few people that are now going
- 15:17Speaker 2: to the Kennedy Center And so few acts, performers, they
- 15:22Speaker 2: have all canceled or a lot of them have canceled.
- 15:24Speaker 2: So that's excuse to redo the center. But wait a minute.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Why are they not going there? Well, because of obvious reasons.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So this is an end around. The court said you
- 15:36Speaker 2: cannot name this the Donald J. Trump Center. Because only
- 15:40Speaker 2: Congress can do that. So the president said, OK, so
- 15:43Speaker 2: they're doing an end around, as you said, it is
- 15:46Speaker 2: the restored center or restored by Donald J. Trump with
- 15:51Speaker 2: his name on it. Now, the judge may say no
- 15:57Speaker 2: to that one. So then another end round. So it
- 16:00Speaker 2: would be the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts restored by
- 16:04Speaker 2: Donald J. Trump if the courts allowed my name to
- 16:07Speaker 2: be on there.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Is it taxpayer money restoring it?
- 16:13Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Then why isn't it restored by the taxpayers?
- 16:18Speaker 2: He said it is going to be with private donations.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It is not. He is saying that there is a
- 16:25Speaker 2: fund available. There is an opinion. Like the ballroom.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:30Speaker 2: The ballroom, it looks like, well, they're saying that it
- 16:32Speaker 2: is going to be, the ballroom itself is going to
- 16:36Speaker 2: be built with donations, but it looks like it won't.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It's just the whole thing is insane. It's all insane.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Life is insane. Okay. So much for that.
- 16:50Speaker 4: It's no secret.
- 16:51Speaker 6: These three are in hot water. Three Secret Service agents
- 16:55Speaker 6: have been placed on administrative leave. The three are being
- 17:00Speaker 6: investigated for potential misconduct, according to the agency's public information office.
- 17:06Speaker 6: But they're not saying what that misconduct may have been.
- 17:12Speaker 6: There's been rumors, though, that it was because of leaking.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Well, we know that the journalists of New York Times
- 17:19Speaker 2: were subpoenaed to find out where they got their information
- 17:23Speaker 2: and published it about the Qatari Air Force One, the
- 17:29Speaker 2: gifted Air Force One. And that was– the administration got
- 17:33Speaker 2: really angry with that one because it turned out that
- 17:36Speaker 2: there was a story that was given to us. It
- 17:38Speaker 2: turned out not to be a story. Although, you know,
- 17:41Speaker 2: I've got to tell you, I'm going in favor of
- 17:45Speaker 2: President Trump on this one. The issue was the new
- 17:48Speaker 2: Air Force One, according to the stories, did not have
- 17:51Speaker 2: the security protocol, did not have the defense mechanism the
- 17:55Speaker 2: old Air Force One did. And there was some credible
- 17:57Speaker 2: threats going on that the airplane would be attacked. So
- 18:00Speaker 2: the Secret Service had Trump secretly go on the old.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Air Force One.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Well, not secretly, went on the old Air Force One,
- 18:07Speaker 2: but came up with a reason other than that. other
- 18:10Speaker 2: than security reasons. that he wanted the troops in England
- 18:14Speaker 2: to see the airplane. I mean, as lame as you
- 18:16Speaker 2: can possibly get. But when dealing with threats, I think,
- 18:20Speaker 2: you know, anything to keep a secret, I'm okay with.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and lying and all of that, of course. Yeah, well, no,
- 18:26Speaker 3: you lie.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well, you know what happens is when you are trying,
- 18:30Speaker 2: when you have to lie and you're saying, you know,
- 18:32Speaker 2: look at A when you're really doing B, when it
- 18:34Speaker 2: comes to national security, legitimate national security, like threats against
- 18:39Speaker 2: the president, I'm okay with that.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah, of course. All right.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Another Trump end around. This is an interesting one with
- 18:47Speaker 5: the mail-in ballot executive order. So a judge blocks that.
- 18:53Speaker 5: He's probably going to do a quick appeal and spin
- 18:56Speaker 5: around here. Federal judge just yesterday halted, at least for now,
- 19:00Speaker 5: any attempts to implement President Trump's executive order limiting mail voting,
- 19:07Speaker 5: as you talked about yesterday, Bill. This is more of a, well, yes,
- 19:11Speaker 5: you can't do anything about states and how they go about,
- 19:16Speaker 5: you know, elections. But the government does oversee the, it's
- 19:21Speaker 5: kind of a pseudo governmental agency, isn't it?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a quasi independent agency, which is not funded
- 19:31Speaker 2: by the government. It is funded by stamps, et cetera. However,
- 19:36Speaker 2: it borrows from the government. Whenever it goes into deficit,
- 19:40Speaker 2: which it does, the postmaster general overseeing it is it's
- 19:44Speaker 2: a cabinet post and the postmaster general overseeing it is
- 19:48Speaker 2: nominated by the president. confirmed. But it is it's it's
- 19:52Speaker 2: quasi independent. It's a very strange hybrid.
- 19:56Speaker 5: So they made this rule, you know, that Postal Service
- 19:59Speaker 5: will deliver states that wouldn't that Postal Service wouldn't. deliver
- 20:05Speaker 5: these mail-in ballots unless they could prove that they were
- 20:11Speaker 5: going to legal citizens. And they also had some rule about,
- 20:16Speaker 5: you know, some sort of structural rule.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he wanted, and the president wanted to do away
- 20:20Speaker 2: completely with mail-in ballots. That's a little problematic because your
- 20:25Speaker 2: home state, Amy, of Oregon is, it's about 95% mail-in ballot,
- 20:30Speaker 2: if not 98%. which means that if no mail-in ballots
- 20:36Speaker 2: means there's no vote in Oregon until they straightened it
- 20:39Speaker 2: all out. So it's just weird. All of it's weird.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It's all crazy. Let's go back to the Donald Trump
- 20:47Speaker 2: bait shop on Lake Ontario. Kono, what's the weather like today?
- 20:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:57Speaker 2: That doesn't help. No, no, no. You missed the point here.
- 21:01Speaker 3: But not a schvitz.
- 21:02Speaker 2: It's hot, but not a schvitz. We do the drop, okay?
- 21:06Speaker 2: We do the drop. It's schvitzageddon. Okay, trying to get it. Okay. Kono,
- 21:12Speaker 2: what is the weather today? Hot and a schvitz. There
- 21:15Speaker 2: you go. Schvitzadama, we have all of those, okay? Let's
- 21:20Speaker 2: bring those up because we don't often get that because
- 21:23Speaker 2: we get dry heat here in Southern California.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 2: And have you seen that? Have you seen the video
- 21:28Speaker 2: with the reports of the rest of the country? Man,
- 21:31Speaker 2: it hasn't stopped. Back east, the flash flooding. I mean,
- 21:35Speaker 2: it is crazy going on. And we, on the other hand,
- 21:38Speaker 2: it's hot. It's going to be a schvitz out there.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That is correct. OK, back we go. More handle on
- 21:46Speaker 2: the news. Amy, Neil and me.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Six flag has settled. A family in Garden Grove sued
- 21:54Speaker 6: Six Flags Magic Mountain and a ride manufacturer, the manufacturer
- 21:58Speaker 6: of the X2, after their son died after taking a
- 22:03Speaker 6: ride on the extreme roller coaster. 22-year-old Christopher Hawley and
- 22:09Speaker 6: his brother got on the ride, and near the end
- 22:12Speaker 6: of it, this was in June of 2022, the coaster suddenly, abruptly,
- 22:17Speaker 6: violently jolted to a halt, jarring the 22-year-old and his brother.
- 22:22Speaker 4: And other riders in their seats.
- 22:23Speaker 6: So apparently Christopher got off the ride and was feeling unsteady.
- 22:29Speaker 6: He was walking strangely down the rope ramp. And then
- 22:33Speaker 6: he said that his head hurt. They took him to
- 22:35Speaker 6: the hospital and the following day he died.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, brain bleed. And this is the settlement regarding this
- 22:44Speaker 2: one rider. I mean, it's the worst, obviously, by him dying.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I mean, that's heart-wrenching. But everybody else on that ride
- 22:53Speaker 2: also has a lawsuit because you think there are going
- 22:55Speaker 2: to be a few whiplash injuries that are going to
- 22:58Speaker 2: be reported?
- 22:59Speaker 3: Well, not the first time. Apparently, there's been a bunch
- 23:03Speaker 3: of different problems on there.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 5: With strokes and comas and a.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Lot of question marks. Yeah, it's going to be in
- 23:11Speaker 2: all the pockets. You've got the ride company. There's that
- 23:13Speaker 2: one ride company, what, SNS Worldwide, that provides rides all
- 23:18Speaker 2: over the world, theme parks. I saw a documentary on them.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So Magic Mountain is, I think they're changing the name
- 23:26Speaker 2: to Not So Magic Mountain. Okay.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:30Speaker 2: All right.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Using a public toilet. If you're an ICE officer, check
- 23:34Speaker 5: everything around you. Use a little butt gasket or whatever
- 23:38Speaker 5: you put on the toilet seat.
- 23:39Speaker 3: And don't forget your gun.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Simple.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Well, unfortunately, a flight attendant found an ICE officer's gun
- 23:49Speaker 5: unattended in a public restroom. This was at San Francisco
- 23:52Speaker 5: International Airport last month. But here's the thing. This was
- 23:56Speaker 5: post-security checkpoints. So if anybody picked that gun up, it's
- 24:02Speaker 5: already gone through.
- 24:04Speaker 3: You could take that on a plane.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, you could. But the good news is it
- 24:09Speaker 2: was simply a gun that was left in the restroom
- 24:12Speaker 2: of which this ice officer may have some real problems. Oh,
- 24:17Speaker 2: but there's no at this point. The good news is
- 24:20Speaker 2: nothing came out of it.
- 24:22Speaker 3: No. So the police.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Flight attendant went ahead and called 911. Law enforcement came.
- 24:28Speaker 5: And around that time, I think the ICE officer figured out.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Let's see. Spectacles, testicles, wallet, watch. Oh, my God. My God.
- 24:41Speaker 2: That's not bad. Recreation.
- 24:43Speaker 3: That was just.
- 24:43Speaker 2: No, that was good. That was good. That was a
- 24:46Speaker 2: good visual. Yeah. Pat himself, you know, Pat's back pocket gun.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Pat's his side wallet in the back pocket. That's the
- 24:56Speaker 2: side where it should be a gun. Pat's, you know,
- 24:59Speaker 2: the front to see if he still has his fruit package.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah. And the the gun part was not there.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Well, here's some shocking news.
- 25:09Speaker 2: U.S.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Immigration and Customs Enforcement has granted almost $ 17 million to
- 25:15Speaker 6: buy 6,000 gloves, the electric shock gloves. They're dubbed the glove,
- 25:22Speaker 6: which stands for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter. They'd be
- 25:26Speaker 6: used as a conventional patrol glove until an officer activates it.
- 25:33Speaker 6: And then it goes into electrical mode. And once activated,
- 25:36Speaker 6: it's It makes direct contact with the skin and then
- 25:39Speaker 6: delivers a shock to the person. Ice describes the gloves
- 25:43Speaker 6: as conductive distraction and de-escalation devices.
- 25:48Speaker 2: So, Neil, how big a market if they marketed this
- 25:52Speaker 2: to men for masturbation purposes?
- 25:56Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I think it would be huge. I think I'd buy one.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Yeah, normally when... You show it, other people are shocked.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Oh, okay. Fair enough. That's tiny. Okay. So this is
- 26:15Speaker 2: a small glove. If it don't fit, you must acquit.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I call it the love glove.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Okay, moving on.
- 26:22Speaker 3: All right.
- 26:24Speaker 5: You can augur a show better than any host I've
- 26:26Speaker 5: ever met. California wants to outlaw disposable vapes, especially because
- 26:33Speaker 5: they find them to be toxic substances. trash all over
- 26:36Speaker 5: the beaches and everything. But also the batteries are in
- 26:40Speaker 5: there are garbage and they cause fires. So now you've
- 26:43Speaker 5: got the state assembly approved bill 762. If it's signed
- 26:47Speaker 5: by GovGav, It will make the battery-powered disposable devices illegal
- 26:55Speaker 5: to manufacture, distribute, or sell in the state. These are
- 27:01Speaker 5: for tobacco products. I think cannabis, it looks like cannabis
- 27:06Speaker 5: devices are exempt.
- 27:10Speaker 3: OK, tobacco is dangerous. I don't know.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Well, I think it probably is dangerous, but maybe they
- 27:15Speaker 2: don't sell as many. I don't know why the cannabis
- 27:17Speaker 2: is exempt. It could be the cannabis industry has made
- 27:20Speaker 2: them exempt. Or there's the argument that the kind of
- 27:24Speaker 2: cannabis has some medical that gives us some medical help.
- 27:30Speaker 2: I don't know the answer, but the number of these
- 27:33Speaker 2: that are thrown away, it's almost like plastic bags thrown.
- 27:36Speaker 2: They before they existed. And I remember when there were
- 27:40Speaker 2: no plastic bags, you had paper bags. And you remember
- 27:43Speaker 2: going to school when I was just a little one
- 27:46Speaker 2: and it was wax paper instead of plastic bags. Look
- 27:50Speaker 2: what plastic bags have done to the environment. And now
- 27:52Speaker 2: you're talking about vapes. The story from the L.A. Times
- 27:57Speaker 2: is half a million disposable vapes. are thrown away every
- 28:01Speaker 2: day in the USA.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Plastic bags haven't done anything to the environment. Humans have.
- 28:08Speaker 3: They are recyclable.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Guns don't kill people. People kill people.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I'd rather be in a room with a gun in
- 28:17Speaker 5: the corner than in a room with.
- 28:19Speaker 3: A crazy person in the corner.
- 28:20Speaker 2: In a room with a plastic bag and taking your
- 28:21Speaker 2: sandwich out of a plastic bag. No, I would rather
- 28:24Speaker 2: be shot than taking a plastic bag.
- 28:26Speaker 3: People are lazy and stupid.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Moving on.
- 28:31Speaker 6: Ducking out early turned deadly. Two air traffic controllers at
- 28:37Speaker 6: LaGuardia Airport apparently left work early the night an Air
- 28:42Speaker 6: Canada Express flight crashed into an airport fire truck on
- 28:46Speaker 6: the runway. Two pilots on the Air Canada Express flight
- 28:51Speaker 6: were killed when the jet collided with the fire truck
- 28:55Speaker 6: just after it landed. Again, the fire truck had been
- 28:57Speaker 6: crossing the taxiway.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Did you see the video of that? Because they did
- 29:02Speaker 2: show the video of the plane crashing into the fire truck.
- 29:05Speaker 2: And the entire front of that plane basically disappeared. It
- 29:11Speaker 2: was horrible. It was horrible. So clearly the FAA is
- 29:15Speaker 2: looking into this. Some heads are going to roll.
- 29:18Speaker 3: How do you leave early on a job like that?
- 29:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 29:21Speaker 4: And apparently they didn't leave just a few minutes early.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Yeah, they left early.
- 29:25Speaker 4: They left early, early.
- 29:28Speaker 3: All right.
- 29:28Speaker 5: So if you remember the so-called debate that went on
- 29:35Speaker 5: between Mayor Bass and Nithya Raman, Bass had made a comment.
- 29:41Speaker 5: And she said, just like you shouldn't have encampments in
- 29:45Speaker 5: front of a restaurant or in front of schools, you
- 29:48Speaker 5: should not do that.
- 29:49Speaker 3: She was referring to street vendors, which is Is right.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I mean, why should this- Of course it's right. You shouldn't.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:57Speaker 2: You shouldn't.
- 29:58Speaker 5: A lot of pushback because people don't care about the problem.
- 30:02Speaker 5: They care about who the vendors are. They're brown people.
- 30:05Speaker 5: And so that's where people get upset. And so she's
- 30:10Speaker 5: had to back off that a little bit. And so
- 30:13Speaker 5: now she's coming out and telling LAPD to stop issuing
- 30:16Speaker 5: criminal citation to street vendors.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Oh, they should do. They should simply pick up those carts.
- 30:23Speaker 2: and confiscate them because they are in their direct competition
- 30:29Speaker 2: for the store behind them. And look what it takes
- 30:33Speaker 2: to open up a restaurant, the amount of money that
- 30:35Speaker 2: it takes to set it up, the rent, the insurance.
- 30:38Speaker 3: I believe all of that. However, street vendors are an
- 30:41Speaker 3: important part of the culture of.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Los Angeles as well. Not our team, but have them
- 30:44Speaker 2: go on the corners, not in front of stores.
- 30:47Speaker 5: Well, they used to have places set for them, but
- 30:49Speaker 5: that's never good enough for anybody. Everybody wants rules to
- 30:53Speaker 5: change for others.
- 30:54Speaker 2: All right. We're done, guys. So much for that. Floating
- 30:59Speaker 2: nuclear power plants. Floating ones out in the ocean kind
- 31:03Speaker 2: of nukes. Yeah, it's real. And it makes sense. I'll
- 31:08Speaker 2: explain to you when we come back on that one.
- 31:10Speaker 2: This is KFI AM6.
- 31:12Speaker 3: K-F-I.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch my
- 31:17Speaker 1: show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m.
