- 0:00Speaker 1: Marks the MO Show on sevent ten.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Wor Well Roger Friedman, the Great entertainment reporter. His website
- 0:09Speaker 2: is Showbiz for one one dot com. Oh, we're trying
- 0:13Speaker 2: to get all right, he'll turn up. But as for
- 0:18Speaker 2: Showbiz four one one dot com, there's new stories there
- 0:21Speaker 2: all the time. We are looking for him. Uh, and
- 0:24Speaker 2: he'll turn that him there, Yeah, I see him there,
- 0:28Speaker 2: we got him. He'll turn up. It's Showbiz four one
- 0:31Speaker 2: one dot com, the great entertainment site. News stories every day. There,
- 0:36Speaker 2: Roger Friedman, how you doing? Yep, Roger Friedman, are you there?
- 0:43Speaker 2: I am, Oh, there you are. I've just enjoyed the
- 0:47Speaker 2: Grammy nominations. Yeah, so tell us about the Grammy nominations.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Well, uh, it's the all the pop people who you
- 0:57Speaker 1: know on the radio if you're fourteen, Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber,
- 1:03Speaker 1: they're the main names. Lady Gaga got seven nominations for
- 1:07Speaker 1: her Man Eater album and she's going to win. The
- 1:11Speaker 1: others are just superfluous in the traditional pop section, which
- 1:18Speaker 1: is more for you and me.
- 1:19Speaker 2: No, actually, I believe or not. I listened to that stuff.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Okay, I like one hundred Sabrina Carpenter, who I just
- 1:26Speaker 1: saw by the way at the garden and loved her
- 1:29Speaker 1: Manchild album and song got nominated, and that bunny Billie
- 1:39Speaker 1: Eilish got nominated for a song that I thought came
- 1:41Speaker 1: out the year before. But all right, but it's Luther
- 1:46Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar for his song Luther with Sizza. But those
- 1:51Speaker 1: are the ones. But the really the category that you
- 1:54Speaker 1: and I would enjoy the most would be traditional pop,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and that's Barber streisand Jennifer Hudson, Elton John and Brandy Carlisle. Uh,
- 2:09Speaker 1: those are the main names. You know who didn't get
- 2:11Speaker 1: nominated for that category, which I really would have liked
- 2:14Speaker 1: to was Ringo Star. He had this great country album
- 2:17Speaker 1: called look Up, and they didn't do anything for it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: But I really liked that album.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I really liked it. But you know, I would say
- 2:29Speaker 1: that Chapel Rone she's nominated, But it's really the Grammys
- 2:35Speaker 1: are very narrow at this point because they're really just
- 2:39Speaker 1: looking at the top shart stars. They're they're they're looking
- 2:43Speaker 1: for a new TV show, which you can't blame them.
- 2:45Speaker 1: They want ratings, which are necessary to stay alive, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: they're not going into really uh like diverse or interesting
- 2:54Speaker 1: things you know that might surprise you, which they've done
- 2:57Speaker 1: in the past. This is a very straightforward list of
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, top forty hits, commercial hits, that kind of thing.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Well, but that's what we did that in the nineties,
- 3:07Speaker 2: the two thousands, they we did that.
- 3:10Speaker 1: No, yeah, it's been a little better in the past.
- 3:12Speaker 1: But the TV show February first, it'll be a big,
- 3:19Speaker 1: big show. And if they get some of these people,
- 3:22Speaker 1: if they get Loffe, she's do you know who she is? Yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 1: she's a fabulous singer around there. Phil be in good shaped.
- 3:32Speaker 1: They nominated some Layla Biali really but for winter songs,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and we're going to have to look her up and
- 3:42Speaker 1: see who she is best new artist. Those are all good.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And this guy Somber. You know who Somber is? Yeah, Okay,
- 3:51Speaker 1: he's twenty years old. He's from the Lower East Side.
- 3:55Speaker 1: He's about nine feet tall. He's the son of the
- 4:00Speaker 1: guy who does all the booking for like the Elton
- 4:04Speaker 1: Shawn and am Fhar shows and that kind of thing.
- 4:07Speaker 1: He's got a big I never knew his name is
- 4:11Speaker 1: Andy Boose. I never knew that he was a musician himself,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and his son's name is Sean Boose and I guess
- 4:18Speaker 1: the middle initial is M, so it's SMB, and he
- 4:21Speaker 1: calls himself Somber. He's had two massive hits, are three
- 4:25Speaker 1: massive hits on the charts all year, and a big
- 4:28Speaker 1: album into a debut album, and he's going to win
- 4:32Speaker 1: Best New Artist. He is the Best New Artist. So
- 4:35Speaker 1: he's a real New York story. I think he dropped
- 4:38Speaker 1: out of school like seventeen to become a rock star
- 4:41Speaker 1: and became one sort of overnight wow. So that's a
- 4:44Speaker 1: big New York story.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Hey, where are the Grammys being held this year?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Grammys are in Los Angeles February first, from the what
- 4:52Speaker 1: I call the Staples Center, what others called the Crypto
- 4:55Speaker 1: Crypto crypt dot com. And they'll be preceded by two events.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Music Cares Person of the Years of Award on the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Friday of that weekend is going to Mariah Carey and
- 5:09Speaker 1: she'll show up sometime that evening, probably not on time,
- 5:12Speaker 1: but sometime that evening. The next night, Clive Davis throws
- 5:17Speaker 1: his annual pre Grammy dinner. He'll be almost ninety four
- 5:23Speaker 1: years old by then, Please God knock wood. And it's
- 5:26Speaker 1: going to be that'll be an amazing night. So the
- 5:29Speaker 1: Grammy weekend is going to be terrific. And it's the
- 5:31Speaker 1: last Grammys. I believe it's the last Grammys on CBS.
- 5:37Speaker 1: CBS blew their chances to have the Grammys for the
- 5:40Speaker 1: next ten years and after this, January goes to NBC.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Oh all right, Roger Van, tell me, what's the deal
- 5:49Speaker 2: with this Michael Jackson movie?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Good Bad? What is it? Oh? So, the Michael Jackson movie.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. But originally the plan was,
- 5:59Speaker 1: this is crazy. The plan was to have a like
- 6:02Speaker 1: three hour movie where they were going to take you
- 6:04Speaker 1: through the nineties and the two thousands where he gets
- 6:07Speaker 1: arrested and there's like, you know, molestation charges and trials
- 6:12Speaker 1: and all this other stuff. And finally someone came to
- 6:15Speaker 1: their senses and said, nobody wants to see that in
- 6:17Speaker 1: the movie. So they went back. They went back and
- 6:20Speaker 1: made a film that ends, you know, around the time
- 6:24Speaker 1: of nineteen ninety like after Bad and thriller and dangerous
- 6:29Speaker 1: and when he's at the peak of his career before
- 6:31Speaker 1: the bad stuff comes, and that movie will be terrific.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And it's very similar in that way to the MJ
- 6:37Speaker 1: musical playing on Broadway and around the world, which is
- 6:40Speaker 1: a huge hit, by the way, huge and that also
- 6:44Speaker 1: stops at the end of the nineteen eighties when Michael
- 6:48Speaker 1: is at his peak powers and you know, adored by everyone.
- 6:52Speaker 1: The next twenty years are you know, a crazy time.
- 6:55Speaker 1: They see that in a documentary, that's fine, but nobody
- 6:58Speaker 1: wants to see Michael gonga court and just not going
- 7:03Speaker 1: to work. So I Jermaine Jackson's son Ja'far is playing
- 7:08Speaker 1: Michael in the movie, and there's a great cast that
- 7:13Speaker 1: goes with it, and there's going to be Walter Wall music.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And my prediction is it's going to be like Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 7:19Speaker 1: People are going to come out dancing and they're not
- 7:22Speaker 1: going to think about any bad stuff. You know. Despite
- 7:25Speaker 1: the fact that Michael had all that scandal that we
- 7:28Speaker 1: covered extensively and minutely, he is still one of the
- 7:32Speaker 1: top ten recording artists in the world. His estate is
- 7:36Speaker 1: worth a billion dollars. The records sell like crazy. Thriller
- 7:40Speaker 1: has been on the charts for the last month because
- 7:42Speaker 1: of Halloween, so there's no question that the movie will
- 7:47Speaker 1: be a hit. But that's that's what the movie will
- 7:50Speaker 1: be now today I hear they might make a second movie.
- 7:53Speaker 1: My advice is, do not make that second movie. Stop
- 7:57Speaker 1: stop Well things are good. You know, hey, we Aly
- 8:00Speaker 1: got that's We'll get a minute left. Tell me, tell
- 8:03Speaker 1: me about Broadway. What's the hottest thing on Broadway? The
- 8:05Speaker 1: latest newest hottest thing on Broadway, the latest hottest, new
- 8:09Speaker 1: new thing on Broadway.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Tom Hanks?
- 8:13Speaker 1: I know Tom Hanks is off Broadway and he has
- 8:17Speaker 1: a show called This World or Tomorrow. The prices started
- 8:20Speaker 1: out at four hundred dollars a ticket, and nobody bought
- 8:23Speaker 1: the tickets. To tell a couple of last week that
- 8:27Speaker 1: you could buy a ticket on any night in any section,
- 8:30Speaker 1: because no one was going to spend four hundred dollars.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Now they've cut the price by fifty seven percent. The
- 8:36Speaker 1: really good seats are two fifty nine, and decent seats
- 8:39Speaker 1: and very decent seats are one sixty nine. So now
- 8:41Speaker 1: everyone can see this play. Who wants to see a
- 8:43Speaker 1: regular play. I have friends who went in the first
- 8:46Speaker 1: week and said, it's a slight play, but charming and
- 8:49Speaker 1: the cast. It's wonderful to see them all on stage.
- 8:51Speaker 1: It's at the Shed in Hudson Yards. It's a small theater,
- 8:55Speaker 1: so you can see Tom Hanks. You know, you'll be
- 8:57Speaker 1: able to see him, really see him. And you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm probably not going to go, but I think a
- 9:03Speaker 1: lot of people will go. And already several nights are
- 9:06Speaker 1: sold out because at you know, one hundred and sixty
- 9:08Speaker 1: nine dollars a seat, people will go for that. Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Well, good thing about Off Broadway. There's no bad seats
- 9:12Speaker 2: because it's a small theater you're close with.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, there are no bad seats. And then if you're
- 9:16Speaker 1: thirty years old or younger, the tickets are forty five dollars.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Okay, but if you're thirty or younger, you're not going
- 9:23Speaker 2: to know who this guy is, if this Tom Hanks,
- 9:25Speaker 2: that might.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Be a problem. Yeah, but you and I would have
- 9:28Speaker 1: gone at thirty years old because we're old souls.
- 9:31Speaker 2: There you go. Well, great stuff, Roger Freeman. Check out
- 9:34Speaker 2: his website. There's new stories every day there. Showbiz for
- 9:37Speaker 2: one one dot com, Showbiz for one one dot com.
