- 0:01What is the experience of prayer in our being?
- 0:06If it is a form of bargaining with an expectation of a return,
- 0:11then it takes on the colour of a business deal.
- 0:14We give from our side the prayer and the expression of gratitude
- 0:18or adherence, and in return we get something we desire from the
- 0:24Divine. But prayer need not be reduced
- 0:28to some form of a bargaining session.
- 0:31When an individual experiences the spontaneous movement of
- 0:34prayer from whichever aspect of the being it originates, there
- 0:39is a sense of openness, a feeling of devotion, and a
- 0:44process of tuning the being to a vibration that brings with it
- 0:49calm, peace, and assurance. There can be a sense of a flame
- 0:55welling up from the deepest parts of the being.
- 0:59Many people create a ritual of prayer, for instance, prior to
- 1:03sleep, they quietly pray and express their gratitude.
- 1:09If this is a formulaic expression rather than some
- 1:12deeply felt experience, they may simply be calmed and move to a
- 1:17status of peace in preparation for sleep.
- 1:21The practice may, however, have added benefits by creating an
- 1:25auto suggestion that works during sleep and thereby works
- 1:30to carry out the intention behind the prayer.
- 1:34There is a reality and a truth that underlies the formulation
- 1:38of prayer and if done with the correct focus and intensity, it
- 1:43can have real and unpalpable results.
- 1:46Prayer can unite the individual consciousness with the Divine
- 1:50personality, the being in manifestation, and thus bring
- 1:55together our deeper aspiration with the adherents of the
- 2:00external being, the mind, the vital, and the physical.
- 2:05The aspiration of the psychic being can be brought into the
- 2:09external being through the instrumentality of prayer that
- 2:12carries that aspiration into the mind, the vital or the physical
- 2:17as the case may be. A prayer that is filled with the
- 2:21consecrated energy of the psychic aspiration and express
- 2:25verbally or non verbally through these elements of the being can
- 2:31have a palpable impact in the external world.
- 2:35In particular, the verbal expression of a prayer of this
- 2:38type sets up a vibration that impacts matter, life and mind in
- 2:43a very concrete way. The Mother notes quote Certainly
- 2:49one may have an aspiration in all the domains, but the very
- 2:53center of aspiration is in the psychic being.
- 2:57Whilst one may pray in all the domains, and the prayer belongs
- 3:01to the domain in which one prays, one may make purely
- 3:05material physical prayers, vital prayers, mental prayers, psychic
- 3:12prayers, spiritual prayers, and each one has its special
- 3:17character, its special value. There's a kind of prayer at 1,
- 3:22spontaneous and unselfish, which is like a great call, usually
- 3:27not for one's own self personally, but like something
- 3:31that may be called an intercession with the Divine.
- 3:34It is extremely powerful. I have had countless instances
- 3:39of things which have been realized almost instantaneously
- 3:43due to prayers of this kind. It implies a great faith, a
- 3:48great ardour, a great sincerity, and a great simplicity of heart.
- 3:53Also something that does not calculate, does not plan, does
- 3:58not bargain, does not give with the idea of receiving in
- 4:02exchange, for the majority of men give with one hand and hold
- 4:08out the other to get something in exchange.
- 4:11The largest number of prayers are of that sort, but there are
- 4:16others of the kind I have described.
- 4:18Acts of Thanksgiving, a kind of canticle, and these are very
- 4:24good. There you are.
- 4:27I don't know if I've made myself clear, but this is how it is.
