- 0:04Speaker 1: go from a championship backfield to your morning drive hands.
- 0:08Speaker 2: To hester and hester got it five out of five.
- 0:11Speaker 1: You're locked in to off the bench live from the
- 0:19Speaker 1: raising cane studio here's jacob hester and matt.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Flynn yo and welcome in to otb here on this
- 0:34Speaker 3: monday morning we are live at u club for the
- 0:37Speaker 3: lsu alumni golf tournament jake flynn and moose here we
- 0:42Speaker 3: got alondra and tate back in studio.
- 0:44Speaker 4: In the capital city in downtown baton rouge did you
- 0:49Speaker 4: set this up so you could sleep a little bit
- 0:51Speaker 4: extra I mean, that's seven to eight minutes. Didn't really help.
- 0:56Speaker 4: It did not. It did not help. I don't know,
- 0:59Speaker 4: but that's about a 25 minute difference for you. It is.
- 1:02Speaker 4: It wasn't the worst thing in the morning.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I definitely remembered until Alondra, Texas that we're here today.
- 1:08Speaker 4: A hundred percent. No doubt. She definitely reminded us the
- 1:13Speaker 4: appropriate amount of times for us to remember. That's right.
- 1:16Speaker 4: But we're idiots. Yes. All of that is factual. All
- 1:19Speaker 4: that is real. And, um, Have no rebuttal.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But before, because we had the, I want to say rare,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but it happens far too often.
- 1:33Speaker 4: We had the losing Sundays on OTB.
- 1:36Speaker 2: How many times since we've been doing this show have
- 1:39Speaker 2: the Chargers, the Packers, the Cowboys, and the Saints all lost?
- 1:43Speaker 4: All four teams that we support. It happens a lot.
- 1:46Speaker 4: More often than not. More often than not, sir. All
- 1:50Speaker 4: four teams. I don't think they've ever won in the
- 1:52Speaker 4: same weekend. I don't think they've ever. No. Or like
- 1:56Speaker 4: you had sniffed a 4-0. Not once. Not once. So
- 1:58Speaker 4: we'll get to that. Certainly we'll get to LSU. I
- 2:04Speaker 4: did it. We got a me thinks into the broadcast. Yes.
- 2:07Speaker 4: So I heard via the Twitterverse that you definitely got
- 2:12Speaker 4: the me thinks. And it was early.
- 2:14Speaker 5: It was early.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Was it often? First segment.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Not only got it once, but it was the first
- 2:18Speaker 2: segment that I was on.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I was like, do I do it? Do I do it? Yeah. Yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 4: we're going to do it. Yeah. We're going to do it. Also,
- 2:25Speaker 4: Chris Blair might have gotten into the action a little bit.
- 2:27Speaker 4: We got everybody involved. Okay, good. We got everybody involved. Well,
- 2:31Speaker 4: good work. Congratulations. Because me thinks Sam Levitt was going
- 2:33Speaker 4: to be the starting quarterback. Me thinks Sam Levitt will
- 2:36Speaker 4: start tonight. My lady. You just got to have fun sometimes.
- 2:43Speaker 4: It's about the little things that get you through life.
- 2:46Speaker 4: And if you can make yourself laugh, it doesn't really
- 2:49Speaker 4: matter if you make anybody else laugh as long as
- 2:51Speaker 4: you make yourself laugh. Hobby Lobby says that all the time. Live, laugh, love. Absolutely.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Dance like nobody's watching you. Scottish cow with bangs. That's right.
- 3:01Speaker 4: That is very, very factual. Moose was like, what are
- 3:04Speaker 4: you all talking about? OTB is. No, no, no. Moose
- 3:08Speaker 4: was like, LSU played football.
- 3:10Speaker 2: No, Moose was on OTB for a long time. Moose
- 3:15Speaker 2: gets the vibe of the show. He understands it. Yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 2: LSU did play football.
- 3:20Speaker 4: LSU, you know, won 45-14. They pulled away late.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And as Matt Flynn, and I did throw this out there, too.
- 3:28Speaker 2: How you call those games Purple Jersey games. I said
- 3:30Speaker 2: that on the broadcast. Put your name behind it, though.
- 3:33Speaker 4: They're the absolute worst. That's why I... This weekend was
- 3:37Speaker 4: just another example. We get this example pretty much every
- 3:41Speaker 4: time we do it of the Purple Jersey game. It
- 3:43Speaker 4: has nothing to do with the aesthetic. I get it.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I tweeted it out this weekend. I was like, this
- 3:50Speaker 4: is why I hate it. It was about mid-first quarter,
- 3:52Speaker 4: maybe mid-second quarter. Everybody's like, this is ridiculous. This guy thinks...
- 3:57Speaker 4: you know, they're losing because of their jersey scheme. I'm like, no, no,
- 4:01Speaker 4: it's what it signifies. It signifies that we're playing a
- 4:04Speaker 4: small school from Louisiana, pretty much, or a smaller school,
- 4:09Speaker 4: excuse me. And credit to Louisiana Tech, they played really well,
- 4:14Speaker 4: especially on defense. Like, on defense, they played very, very well.
- 4:19Speaker 4: That linebacker core was flying around, safeties getting in the action,
- 4:22Speaker 4: mixing it up, and making plays that were, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 4: not all, you know, I think LSU fans probably think
- 4:28Speaker 4: a lot of it is just on the offense playing poorly. Well,
- 4:32Speaker 4: I watched what they were doing on defense, and they
- 4:35Speaker 4: made LSU struggle in their mic declarations in that three
- 4:39Speaker 4: down front. They made them struggle in declaring, and a
- 4:43Speaker 4: lot of times when it looked sloppy on LSU's offense,
- 4:46Speaker 4: it was because they were having communication problems on who
- 4:51Speaker 4: to block, and so there was often a free person.
- 4:54Speaker 4: They did a lot of They did a lot of
- 4:56Speaker 4: run blitzes that they executed really well. But there are
- 4:59Speaker 4: some plays from those backers that were like, oh, those
- 5:02Speaker 4: are big-time defensive plays. Like we actually had that play
- 5:05Speaker 4: set up pretty well and blocked decently well. He just
- 5:08Speaker 4: read it and made a play on the ball. So
- 5:10Speaker 4: you've got to give a lot of credit to them.
- 5:11Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, it's all about LSU.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And that's why I hate the purple jersey games. I
- 5:16Speaker 4: do not ever want to see them come out in
- 5:18Speaker 4: a purple jersey again because I don't want to watch
- 5:20Speaker 4: those games anymore. And I say it every year, and
- 5:23Speaker 4: I know I'm going to watch at least two every
- 5:25Speaker 4: single season. I don't want to. And it's going to
- 5:27Speaker 4: look like that pretty much every day. I'm sure you
- 5:29Speaker 4: might have the one-off game where everything just clicks and
- 5:31Speaker 4: goes perfectly, but it doesn't happen very often. I would
- 5:35Speaker 4: say more often than not, the Purple Jersey games, we
- 5:38Speaker 4: all feel like this on the Monday afterwards. It's going
- 5:41Speaker 4: to be in.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Look, LSU won the game 45-14, and certainly they pulled
- 5:45Speaker 2: away in the second half, and Louisiana Tech is better than,
- 5:48Speaker 2: like you said, I mean, you're not playing in FCS school,
- 5:51Speaker 2: so You had an opponent that I think is going
- 5:53Speaker 2: to do fairly well in the Sun Belt, but that's
- 5:57Speaker 2: not really the story.
- 5:58Speaker 4: It's not the narrative that we're going to talk about.
- 5:59Speaker 2: We're going to talk more about LSU than we are
- 6:01Speaker 2: Louisiana Tech. Defensively, what else can we say? I got
- 6:07Speaker 2: some numbers. I was doing it yesterday. breaking it down,
- 6:10Speaker 2: and the first-team defense and.
- 6:11Speaker 4: What they've done.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So we'll get to some of those incredible numbers through
- 6:15Speaker 2: two games. I mean, the starting defense, just relentless effort,
- 6:20Speaker 2: flying around. The strain that you talk about all the time,
- 6:23Speaker 2: that was there yet again. They didn't care what color
- 6:26Speaker 2: jersey they were in.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I can tell you that.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And so the defense will get to the good, but
- 6:31Speaker 2: obviously offensively, the stats, it was just, I mean, Louisiana
- 6:36Speaker 2: Tech didn't have any yards at halftime. And you still
- 6:38Speaker 2: were up 10-7. Zero first down, zero yards. And you
- 6:43Speaker 2: had a lot of yards.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You had a ton of yards. You're moving the football.
- 6:48Speaker 2: You could not finish it with points. And when you
- 6:51Speaker 2: have turnovers, that's going to happen. And Being here today
- 6:56Speaker 2: and not being in studio, we don't have the opportunity
- 6:59Speaker 2: to show you exactly why some of those interceptions happen
- 7:02Speaker 2: and some of the different things.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Don't worry. We'll do it when we get back in
- 7:06Speaker 4: studio tomorrow.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And certainly we have another episode of Eye in the
- 7:09Speaker 2: Sky coming your way, too, where we're going to break
- 7:11Speaker 2: it down for a full hour from the garage.
- 7:14Speaker 4: But you just.
- 7:18Speaker 2: You can't be careless with the football down in the
- 7:21Speaker 2: red area. You have to understand that you have almost
- 7:24Speaker 2: guaranteed points in the red area.
- 7:26Speaker 4: You don't have to force things sometimes.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And so there's a lot of different things that kind
- 7:30Speaker 2: of go into you being successful between the 20s.
- 7:33Speaker 4: That's great. That's fun.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But also, like, it means nothing if you don't finish
- 7:38Speaker 2: it in the end zone or if you finish it
- 7:40Speaker 2: through the uprights and get points.
- 7:42Speaker 4: And because it's such a momentum killer, too.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Offensively and then I can't speak to this you can
- 7:47Speaker 2: only be the one to speak to this like when
- 7:49Speaker 2: you throw that first interception it's like okay well let
- 7:52Speaker 2: me come back but when you throw the second one
- 7:54Speaker 2: I have to imagine that in your thought process you
- 7:57Speaker 2: get a little gun shy you get a little it's
- 7:59Speaker 2: either two things happen I feel I feel like when
- 8:01Speaker 2: that happens it's like you either press too much and
- 8:04Speaker 2: then you force something or something's there but you don't
- 8:08Speaker 2: trust it because you've already thrown two interceptions.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Well, I'd like to sit here in this rocking chair
- 8:12Speaker 4: and tell you, I don't know what it's like to
- 8:14Speaker 4: have to bounce back from that second interception, but clearly, uh, face,
- 8:19Speaker 4: you know, as everybody heard on the broadcast Saturday, um,
- 8:23Speaker 4: I have had to do that because I think you
- 8:25Speaker 4: said that same level as the first quarterback in LSU to, uh,
- 8:30Speaker 4: throw three interceptions in the same quarter, same quarter since
- 8:33Speaker 4: that little fella in 2007 did it. But you know what?
- 8:36Speaker 4: I've been pretty proud of that moment. That was its
- 8:38Speaker 4: second quarter. Um, You know, it was everybody else's fault, obviously.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I told you. I got drafted off one of the interceptions. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 2: so you're welcome for that.
- 8:46Speaker 4: But we won, came back and won. Beat Saban. Anybody
- 8:49Speaker 4: heard of Saban? Yeah, that guy's pretty good. He was
- 8:51Speaker 4: pretty good. On the road. Beat him. So, yeah, so
- 8:53Speaker 4: coming back from that second interception, I think most quarterbacks,
- 8:59Speaker 4: if you're good at this level and beyond, you're pretty hard-headed, right?
- 9:05Speaker 4: And you keep pressing. Um, sure. It can make you
- 9:09Speaker 4: a little bit gun shy, but you don't want to
- 9:11Speaker 4: get into the situation where you're starting to see ghosts.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Like we've heard, Oh shoot. Who was that? Sam Donald.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Sam Donald. There you go. Uh, you start seeing ghosts,
- 9:20Speaker 4: you get the yips a little bit, you start pressing,
- 9:22Speaker 4: you start, uh, trying to aim the ball instead of
- 9:25Speaker 4: throw it. Um, that's never how you want to play
- 9:28Speaker 4: the position. Never how you want to play any at
- 9:30Speaker 4: a high level, any sport. Like we've, You see it
- 9:32Speaker 4: with defense sometimes. They're thinking so much. They want to
- 9:35Speaker 4: be in the right spot. They're not reacting. And you
- 9:37Speaker 4: have to react. And my God, is our defense reacting.
- 9:39Speaker 4: But I didn't see anything really change with Sam after
- 9:44Speaker 4: that second. Like, it's changed in a negative way. Now,
- 9:47Speaker 4: certainly the offense started playing a lot better. But, again,
- 9:50Speaker 4: I do want to say how we talked about the
- 9:54Speaker 4: 3-4 defense last week leading into the game. It created
- 9:58Speaker 4: a lot of challenges for this. LSU.
- 10:01Speaker 2: This is more of a 3-3-5, and so it's not
- 10:06Speaker 2: a defense that you see in the SEC. Mississippi State
- 10:10Speaker 2: with Arnett tried to do it because he came from
- 10:12Speaker 2: San Diego State. He brought it to Mississippi State. That's
- 10:16Speaker 2: the only time that I can remember, but you see
- 10:18Speaker 2: it a little bit in you know, ULL, Louisiana Tech,
- 10:21Speaker 2: San Diego State, a lot of group of six teams
- 10:23Speaker 2: like to use it.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I mean, 3-4, 3-3-5, like, it all looks very similar.
- 10:28Speaker 4: It's just with a nickel.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It's just with a nickel and not a backer. I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 4: who knows? They could call it Shining Star or whatever.
- 10:35Speaker 4: They could call it, like, Rover Star. Who knows what
- 10:38Speaker 4: they call it? They call it Bulldog up there. I
- 10:41Speaker 4: don't know what they call it. I'm looking while you're talking.
- 10:44Speaker 4: But it creates challenges. It's kind of like when coaches
- 10:48Speaker 4: oftentimes don't want to schedule an option team in the
- 10:50Speaker 4: middle of the year because you have to implement all
- 10:53Speaker 4: new rules on defense. Well, with this, you have to
- 10:55Speaker 4: implement a lot of different rules and a lot of
- 10:57Speaker 4: different blocking schemes. And your pre-snap identification, we talk about
- 11:02Speaker 4: all the time how you're identifying whether it's run block,
- 11:04Speaker 4: whether it's pass block. You know, the lineman, when a
- 11:07Speaker 4: regular four down front, you're blocking four down in Mike
- 11:09Speaker 4: or four down in Will, four down in Sam. Like
- 11:11Speaker 4: every play has a different type of scheme to it. Well,
- 11:14Speaker 4: now you're identifying three down plus two more. So, basically,
- 11:19Speaker 4: you have to declare two more people. You have to
- 11:20Speaker 4: declare two backers. You have to declare, or are we
- 11:23Speaker 4: going to more zone protection? Are we going to do
- 11:25Speaker 4: a three-man slide, a four-man slide? Which way are they going?
- 11:28Speaker 4: Who's going to be by himself? And then it just
- 11:31Speaker 4: creates issues with the declaration. And I saw that in
- 11:34Speaker 4: the running game a lot. them not understanding where to squeeze.
- 11:39Speaker 4: And Louisiana Tech, to their credit, like you get on
- 11:41Speaker 4: the goal line, you got on short yardage, and they
- 11:43Speaker 4: were doing things to screw those declarations up. And then
- 11:49Speaker 4: they were shifting their nose tackle and their backers. They
- 11:52Speaker 4: were shifting around after we made declarations, and you saw
- 11:55Speaker 4: some hesitation. And with offensive line, if you just hesitate
- 11:58Speaker 4: for a split second, if you get a little bit
- 12:00Speaker 4: of confusion, then that is the difference between, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 4: making– two three four yards and making no yards and
- 12:09Speaker 4: so it's um one of those things that i saw
- 12:12Speaker 4: a lot of really good teaching tape come from this
- 12:14Speaker 4: game not it doesn't help the fandom like it doesn't
- 12:18Speaker 4: make anybody feel better thinking about the game but there
- 12:21Speaker 4: was a lot of good teaching tape because it wasn't
- 12:23Speaker 4: like lsu was getting manhandled obviously like they weren't getting
- 12:26Speaker 4: just completely physically beat one-on-one it was a situation where
- 12:31Speaker 4: there was a lot of i saw a lot of
- 12:32Speaker 4: uncertainty in the blocking schemes. Yeah. And that was all
- 12:36Speaker 4: brought in credit to Louisiana tech. It's, it's difficult, but
- 12:39Speaker 4: I saw a lot of good things that LSU can
- 12:40Speaker 4: teach from. So hopefully they'll have a little bit of
- 12:43Speaker 4: better understanding. They'll have a little bit more comfortability with it.
- 12:47Speaker 4: If they see that or run into that at different times,
- 12:50Speaker 4: sporadically throughout the season.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I will say like from a running back perspective, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: I've told you this, we've talked about it already. When
- 12:58Speaker 2: you face this kind of defense, too, you can't hop
- 13:02Speaker 2: around and you can't search for it. You can't Le'Veon
- 13:04Speaker 2: Bell it. You can't just wait, wait, wait, and then
- 13:07Speaker 2: hit because you're going to have aggressive linebackers. It's going
- 13:10Speaker 2: to be a little bit more of an aggressive defense,
- 13:12Speaker 2: and I think that's where LSU got into some trouble
- 13:14Speaker 2: in the run game. Again, we're not going to have
- 13:16Speaker 2: the tape here today to kind of break it down
- 13:18Speaker 2: and show you, but we're going to do plenty of
- 13:19Speaker 2: that tomorrow in studio and on Eye in the Sky.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So look forward to that because sometimes– When you face
- 13:28Speaker 2: a defense like this and, you know, you have a
- 13:31Speaker 2: running back and Dylan Jones is more of a Le'Veon Bell.
- 13:34Speaker 2: He's like patient, patient hit. And his best runs came
- 13:37Speaker 2: when it was just like stretch zone. He stretched it,
- 13:40Speaker 2: put one foot into the ground, went north and south.
- 13:42Speaker 2: He had two really good runs with that. Then that's
- 13:44Speaker 2: when you hop around is when you get into the
- 13:46Speaker 2: second level against that defense. But I thought Stacey Gage
- 13:49Speaker 2: had a little bit more success because he was more
- 13:52Speaker 2: interested in the six yard run and not the 60
- 13:55Speaker 2: yard run.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Yeah, so when Dylan Jones is at his best, like
- 14:00Speaker 4: you said, it's when more of the zone where it
- 14:03Speaker 4: is you're reading, you stick your foot in the ground,
- 14:04Speaker 4: get north and south, where he does kind of what
- 14:07Speaker 4: you're talking about. It's a lot more times when he's
- 14:08Speaker 4: following a blocker, when they're either pulling a guard or tackle,
- 14:12Speaker 4: or we saw with Trey Dez pulling into the A
- 14:14Speaker 4: or B gap as well. So I think he's very patient,
- 14:18Speaker 4: and I think there's going to be some There's going
- 14:22Speaker 4: to be some clips this year where we're like, oh,
- 14:23Speaker 4: that was awesome. We'll get the picture from there. He
- 14:25Speaker 4: had some against Clemson. Yeah, but I think when he's following,
- 14:28Speaker 4: he's waiting for those blocks to really present themselves a little,
- 14:32Speaker 4: maybe just a split second too long instead of sticking
- 14:35Speaker 4: that foot in the ground. But again, it's easy for
- 14:37Speaker 4: us to see watching film, but you, I mean.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Because he had an awesome 40-something yard run where it
- 14:43Speaker 2: was just stretch zone, and he stretched it all the way,
- 14:45Speaker 2: foot in the ground, and then as soon as he
- 14:47Speaker 2: got north and south, there was a defender, and he just,
- 14:51Speaker 2: sidestepped him, and then went back north and south, and
- 14:53Speaker 2: then another move, and then back north and south. And
- 14:56Speaker 2: against a defense like that, it's going to be overly aggressive.
- 14:58Speaker 2: That's typically going to be your best recipe for success.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And so I thought that run, and he had two
- 15:03Speaker 2: runs where he kind of got back to the way
- 15:07Speaker 2: you'd like to see him go against a defense like that.
- 15:10Speaker 4: So a ton to get to.
- 15:12Speaker 2: That was just an initial breakdown of a Louisiana Tech game.
- 15:16Speaker 2: The Saints, they lose in heartbreaking fashion, even though they
- 15:19Speaker 2: had A great fight, a great comeback against a really
- 15:23Speaker 2: good team on the road. I like the decision to
- 15:25Speaker 2: go for two. I don't know how everybody feels about that.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Do you want a tie?
- 15:29Speaker 2: The play call probably want that one back a little bit.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Again, wish we could show you.
- 15:35Speaker 2: We'll show you throughout the week on the play call
- 15:37Speaker 2: kind of what we're talking about. But a good fight
- 15:40Speaker 2: by the Saints. I know there's no moral victories. in
- 15:42Speaker 2: the NFL, but you were down three touchdowns on the
- 15:44Speaker 2: road to a team that I think is going to
- 15:46Speaker 2: make the playoffs. And Tyler Shuck and the crew, they
- 15:49Speaker 2: fought back. They had a chance to win the game
- 15:51Speaker 2: at the end of regulation, and they had a chance
- 15:53Speaker 2: to win it at the end of overtime.
- 15:55Speaker 4: So we'll break that down as well.
- 15:56Speaker 2: More OTB coming right back your way here live from
- 15:59Speaker 2: U Club in the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Off the bench.
- 16:06Speaker 2: All right, go to pelicanroof.com, pelicanroof.com, the website for Pelican

- 17:23Speaker 4: Off the bench with Hester and Flynn, presented by Bayou Automotive.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Off the bench with Hester and Flynn, All right, welcome
- 17:43Speaker 5: back in OTB here live on location at U Club
- 17:47Speaker 5: Golf Course for the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Breaking down a little LSU and Louisiana Tech. As I mentioned,
- 17:54Speaker 2: we're going to get to the Saints and Lions here
- 17:56Speaker 2: coming up as well.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Hard fought. No moral victories, but God dog it. Want
- 18:05Speaker 4: them to come back. Yeah, talk about the Saints. We'll
- 18:09Speaker 4: get there. We'll get there. We will. get there. All right.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So most of the talk this week is going to
- 18:15Speaker 2: be moving forward for LSU. It is LSU Ole Miss
- 18:19Speaker 2: this weekend in Oxford, Mississippi. So we'll get to the
- 18:23Speaker 2: point where we're breaking down that game, taking a look
- 18:25Speaker 2: at some of the things that LSU is going to
- 18:28Speaker 2: have to make sure they're on top of, some things
- 18:31Speaker 2: offensively that we'd like to see. The defense in that matchup, though,
- 18:34Speaker 2: is probably the thing that I'm most excited about because,
- 18:38Speaker 2: yet again, this LSU defense, they go out there and
- 18:41Speaker 2: they are absolutely dominant. I mean, the first team defense
- 18:46Speaker 2: has barely given up first downs. They haven't given up
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yards at all.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yards on the ground. Like, good luck. Yeah, yards are
- 18:56Speaker 4: really hard to come by against them. And it's because
- 19:00Speaker 4: of a lot of things. It's the perfect storm. I mean,
- 19:04Speaker 4: so far in the season, it's been the perfect storm
- 19:07Speaker 4: of athleticism, leadership, strength, play calling, play design, and a
- 19:15Speaker 4: buy-in and an understanding from all 11 players. They said
- 19:18Speaker 4: that you've heard this term during your 111th. Everybody is
- 19:23Speaker 4: doing their job and understanding their job. Like I'm not
- 19:27Speaker 4: watching defense and seeing a whole lot of MAs or
- 19:29Speaker 4: missed assignments. I'm seeing a lot of pressure being brought,
- 19:35Speaker 4: but it's a lot of simulated pressure. So they're very still,
- 19:38Speaker 4: they're very sound in coverage. They are just, they're confusing
- 19:44Speaker 4: them pre-snap and then overwhelming them post-snap. It's really fun
- 19:49Speaker 4: to see. There's just not a lot of glaring weaknesses
- 19:54Speaker 4: or holes. You're sitting there watching film and you're watching
- 19:57Speaker 4: these route combinations versus, versus the LSU. And you're just
- 20:04Speaker 4: not seeing a lot of people with a lot of
- 20:05Speaker 4: grass around them. Right. They're just, everybody's covered up or
- 20:08Speaker 4: everybody's got somebody dropping from the box. So dropping from
- 20:12Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage or bluffing in the line of
- 20:14Speaker 4: scrimmage and dropping back into these passing lanes. And yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 4: it takes great coaching to do that, but it's also
- 20:21Speaker 4: takes a great understanding and athleticism from these guys to
- 20:24Speaker 4: be able to do it, understanding where passing lanes are
- 20:27Speaker 4: in different type of formations. So, What I have seen
- 20:30Speaker 4: from the defense, and, of course, it's showing itself and
- 20:32Speaker 4: everybody's talking about it, it's been extremely impressive just from
- 20:37Speaker 4: a skill standpoint, but more so just a football IQ
- 20:40Speaker 4: standpoint from the players. And that trickles down from the
- 20:44Speaker 4: coaching staff. I get it. But Blake Baker and his
- 20:46Speaker 4: staff doing one heck of a job. And, look, I
- 20:49Speaker 4: am fired up now that we've gotten past a bad
- 20:52Speaker 4: Clemson team, now that we've gotten past the Purple Jersey game.
- 20:55Speaker 4: I am so fired up to see this defense– take
- 21:00Speaker 4: on one of the top quarterbacks in the whole country
- 21:02Speaker 4: this weekend. So fired up to see it. I know
- 21:06Speaker 4: they're going to present problems. Certainly Ole Miss is going
- 21:08Speaker 4: to present problems to you that you have not faced.
- 21:11Speaker 4: They got skill sets. They got guys. Do I expect
- 21:13Speaker 4: Ole Miss to not have a first down in the
- 21:15Speaker 4: first half? No, I don't expect that. But I expect
- 21:17Speaker 4: them to create problems, create issues, and be one heck
- 21:21Speaker 4: of a test for Trinidad and that Ole Miss offense.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, just the numbers of LSU's defense, and this isn't
- 21:27Speaker 2: even just talking about the starters. If it was just
- 21:29Speaker 2: the starters, it would be completely different. But they've only
- 21:32Speaker 2: given up 285 total yards, 37 total rushing yards, 11 sacks,
- 21:39Speaker 2: 21 TFLs as well.
- 21:40Speaker 4: I mean, they have been remarkable.
- 21:43Speaker 2: And the thing that I noticed the most about it,
- 21:48Speaker 2: I think, is No matter the situation, no matter what
- 21:51Speaker 2: the score is, no matter how much time is on
- 21:53Speaker 2: the clock, I think it is the relentless effort to
- 21:56Speaker 2: make sure that they make the play and not have
- 21:58Speaker 2: the play made on them. Think about all the moments
- 22:02Speaker 2: in that Louisiana Tech game where the game was decided
- 22:06Speaker 2: at the point in the fourth quarter, and you still
- 22:08Speaker 2: got starters out there that are making plays.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Like, Umami Ellen goes back in there.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Right on like a money down and they were like
- 22:15Speaker 2: hey starters we we ain't giving that up again all
- 22:18Speaker 2: right y'all get back in there and you see all
- 22:20Speaker 2: the starters kind of put their helmets back on they
- 22:22Speaker 2: go out there there's some people that would take that
- 22:24Speaker 2: play and they'd be mad like you know they want
- 22:26Speaker 2: to be like in the preseason in the nfl it's
- 22:28Speaker 2: like as soon as you come out you put a
- 22:30Speaker 2: towel around your neck and a ball cap on because
- 22:31Speaker 2: you want everybody to know hey i'm not playing anymore
- 22:34Speaker 2: i'm out that's the other guys out there on the
- 22:35Speaker 2: field that's not the case for lsu Like, Mamielin puts
- 22:39Speaker 2: his helmet on, goes out there, has a great rush,
- 22:41Speaker 2: and up and under, sack, Tiger's ball.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yep. Like, that's what I'm talking about. He's a game-changing
- 22:46Speaker 4: type of player. And it might not show itself every
- 22:49Speaker 4: single play. And most edge rushers are kind of like this.
- 22:52Speaker 4: It's not going to show up every single play with
- 22:55Speaker 4: him dominating a run block or whatever. But he is
- 22:58Speaker 4: a game-changing talent. Explosive, powerful. When he... We saw last
- 23:06Speaker 4: week we highlighted him going up the field and swimming underneath. Well,
- 23:10Speaker 4: this week you do that a couple times, and then
- 23:13Speaker 4: he can also stick one hand in your chest and
- 23:18Speaker 4: grab your jersey and pull up into your throat a
- 23:20Speaker 4: little bit and bull rush you like that. I saw
- 23:22Speaker 4: that this past weekend. He has got game-changing power from
- 23:27Speaker 4: the edge rusher, and I'll continue to say it. His
- 23:31Speaker 4: presence on the field, is going to make all the difference.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Blake Baker is going to go from great to super
- 23:40Speaker 4: great because of that presence that he has on the field.
- 23:44Speaker 4: And then we're going to say it again. I think
- 23:46Speaker 4: this is going to be a common theme throughout the year,
- 23:49Speaker 4: but the best linebacker tandem that I've seen in the country.
- 23:53Speaker 4: We know what Wood Weeks does. Relentless effort, always in
- 23:57Speaker 4: the right place, going to give up his body, be
- 23:59Speaker 4: a leader. But T.J. Dotter, he can't. like continues to
- 24:04Speaker 4: be that dude. It just wasn't a flash for one week,
- 24:07Speaker 4: like for two straight weeks. My God, that guy flies around.
- 24:12Speaker 4: He is tough to block. His recognition of what the
- 24:15Speaker 4: offense is trying to do and how that fits within
- 24:18Speaker 4: the scheme that he's supposed to be performing is crazy impressive,
- 24:23Speaker 4: the skill set that those two linebackers have for our
- 24:27Speaker 4: LSU Tigers. Yeah, he forced multiple fumbles. in the game.
- 24:32Speaker 2: LSU was able to jump on one of them and
- 24:34Speaker 2: you're right. I mean, it is just sideline to sideline
- 24:36Speaker 2: and it is seeing the play, recognizing the play and
- 24:40Speaker 2: then going downhill and going downhill fast. And when you
- 24:43Speaker 2: have two of those guys next to each other, it
- 24:45Speaker 2: allows Whit Weeks to be the player that he wants
- 24:48Speaker 2: to be as well. He doesn't feel like he has
- 24:49Speaker 2: to be the guy that makes every play or cover
- 24:52Speaker 2: up everything. He can kind of play a little bit
- 24:55Speaker 2: You know, with a little bit more freedom there in
- 24:57Speaker 2: the middle where I think that's like kind of his
- 24:59Speaker 2: best version.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Well, I think like Witt likes to take chances when
- 25:03Speaker 4: he's shooting the gaps, right? He likes to take chances
- 25:05Speaker 4: and fly downhill. And what does that mean, taking chances? Well,
- 25:09Speaker 4: he likes to pick a gap and hit it full speed.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And sometimes when you're a running back, you try to
- 25:14Speaker 4: set linebackers up to do that. But he's got no
- 25:18Speaker 4: hesitation to do that now because he knows he's got
- 25:21Speaker 4: someone behind him. that is also going to be making
- 25:24Speaker 4: up for what he's doing as well. So it just
- 25:28Speaker 4: continues to fly. I'm expecting other people to do it,
- 25:32Speaker 4: other people to do it, but they're not even going
- 25:33Speaker 4: to get a chance because Doddery's there so fast. You
- 25:35Speaker 4: know what I mean? So it's just we got some playmakers,
- 25:38Speaker 4: and that is certainly, that defensive side of the ball
- 25:42Speaker 4: is LSU's identity right now, which is crazy to say
- 25:47Speaker 4: because it's the lane train and that offense is, It's
- 25:53Speaker 4: supposed to be great. Look, we've played two games. These
- 25:59Speaker 4: things take time. The receivers, it takes time. They've got
- 26:01Speaker 4: to get in better shape, I think. It'll come together,
- 26:05Speaker 4: and you will start seeing. You'll have these weeks where
- 26:06Speaker 4: you're like, oh, my God, that offense looks really good.
- 26:09Speaker 4: But then you're going to have some stuff like that
- 26:10Speaker 4: happen this past week where it's like, man, we've got
- 26:11Speaker 4: to work on this. We've got to clean this up.
- 26:13Speaker 4: It's the communication. But as of right now. That's a
- 26:17Speaker 4: defense that is feared, and that is kind of the
- 26:20Speaker 4: identity of this team currently as we speak. And you
- 26:23Speaker 4: know that's going to drive Lane crazy. So hopefully they
- 26:27Speaker 4: start catching up and catching up to the performance the
- 26:29Speaker 4: defense is doing.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Again, before we take a break, my stat of the
- 26:33Speaker 2: day on Saturday night. Last season in 13 games, LSU's
- 26:36Speaker 2: starting edge rushers combined for three sacks. This year through
- 26:41Speaker 2: two games, LSU's starting edge rushers have combined for six
- 26:44Speaker 2: and a half sacks.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Oof.
- 26:46Speaker 4: So pretty good.
- 26:47Speaker 2: A defense's best friend typically is when you can get
- 26:50Speaker 2: home with four.
- 26:51Speaker 4: They could not do that a year.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Ago, so our good friend Blake Baker had to come
- 26:55Speaker 2: up with a lot of different ways to be creative
- 26:57Speaker 2: and bring people. And this year, if he wants to
- 27:00Speaker 2: do it, well, he can do it when he wants to,
- 27:01Speaker 2: not because he has to. And so the edge rushers
- 27:04Speaker 2: certainly have been a big part of the success so
- 27:06Speaker 2: far for LSU's defense. All right, we will step away.
- 27:10Speaker 2: We've got more coming your way when we jump back here. Again,
- 27:13Speaker 2: we are live at the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament here
- 27:15Speaker 2: at UClub.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Off the bench.

- 28:37Speaker 1: All right, welcome.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Back in.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Moving right along here on OTB this morning, live from
- 28:51Speaker 2: U Club again, the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament. It's been
- 28:55Speaker 2: the first couple of segments talking about LSU and Louisiana Tech.
- 28:59Speaker 2: We'll find our way back to the Tigers. We'll continue
- 29:02Speaker 2: to start that preview of LSU and Ole Miss as well,
- 29:06Speaker 2: but Let's go to the national.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Hey, dude.
- 29:08Speaker 4: It's a beautiful day out here, by the way. Look
- 29:10Speaker 4: at this guy. Squirrel. I know. I was just looking
- 29:12Speaker 4: at the dew on the ground out here. This golf
- 29:14Speaker 4: course looking nice. Makes me want to get my clubs. Sorry.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Go ahead. Talk about the Saints. Nobody cares about your
- 29:22Speaker 4: golf game. Bro, we're at a golf course for a
- 29:26Speaker 4: golf tournament. I'm going to talk about the golf course
- 29:28Speaker 4: a little bit. Nobody cares about your golf game. Well, no.
- 29:32Speaker 4: We know. I don't care about it. You got a
- 29:34Speaker 4: championship match Semifinals. Semifinals. Sorry. We got rained out last week.
- 29:39Speaker 4: The cart before the horse. My bad. Just raining champs.
- 29:43Speaker 4: Not a big deal. It's really not.
- 29:52Speaker 2: The New Orleans Saints go down 31 to 30 in
- 29:55Speaker 2: overtime in Detroit. And look, they were down Three touchdowns
- 30:00Speaker 2: to a good football team. A lot of teams would
- 30:02Speaker 2: have folded it in and just gone home and decided that, hey,
- 30:06Speaker 2: we'll give them another try next week.
- 30:09Speaker 4: That is not the case with the Saints.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I mean, Tyler Shuck, who had a bad first half,
- 30:13Speaker 2: he throws multiple interceptions, comes back and ends up throwing
- 30:16Speaker 2: for a career high 410 yards.
- 30:20Speaker 4: He throws for three touchdowns. Chris Alave was awesome, 182
- 30:23Speaker 4: yards receiving, made big play.
- 30:26Speaker 2: After big play, and it really did have a feel of, okay,
- 30:30Speaker 2: the Saints have made this comeback. They've put the ultimate
- 30:33Speaker 2: pressure on Detroit. I actually loved the decision to go
- 30:37Speaker 2: for two. Didn't love the play call. Did love the
- 30:39Speaker 2: decision to go for two, go win the game, get
- 30:42Speaker 2: out of there with a win.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Again, no moral victories in the NFL. I get all
- 30:48Speaker 4: of that.
- 30:49Speaker 2: But if you look at how this game played out,
- 30:51Speaker 2: you look at the ridiculous call of Jared Goff and
- 30:54Speaker 2: fumbling that ending up in the end zone for the
- 30:57Speaker 2: Saints and them saying that it wasn't. And then to
- 31:00Speaker 2: hear them explain that it's like, yeah, his hand initially
- 31:03Speaker 2: started forward. So therefore, no matter where the ball lands,
- 31:06Speaker 2: it's going.
- 31:06Speaker 4: To be a forward pass. Like what?
- 31:09Speaker 2: You know how many times I've seen a quarterback throw
- 31:11Speaker 2: it and it's gone backwards and it's been a fumble
- 31:14Speaker 2: because that's the way that it's supposed to be?
- 31:16Speaker 4: That's the rules? That's the rules. Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 2: And so just because his hand started forward, I don't
- 31:21Speaker 2: care if his hand started forward. If your hand starts
- 31:23Speaker 2: forward and then you all of a sudden see somebody
- 31:26Speaker 2: at the last second.
- 31:27Speaker 4: You try to pitch to them. Yeah. And it goes backwards.
- 31:29Speaker 4: It's a fumble.
- 31:31Speaker 2: So if that is the rule, that's a dumb rule
- 31:34Speaker 2: and needs to change. But that's a fumble every day.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Ends up in the end zone for the Saints. But still,
- 31:39Speaker 2: even that, they don't allow that to be the reason
- 31:41Speaker 2: why they just go away and quit.
- 31:43Speaker 4: They showed fight.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Again, they were one of the biggest dogs in the
- 31:48Speaker 2: weekend in the NFL. The biggest dog actually won the Cardinals,
- 31:50Speaker 2: beat the Chargers. But the Saints had an opportunity two
- 31:54Speaker 2: different times. End of regulation with a 62-yard kick. I'm
- 31:57Speaker 2: not going to hate on it, but they had a chance.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And then in overtime, they go for the win.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Love it. Again, Didn't love the play call, play design.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I understand what you were trying to get done, but
- 32:08Speaker 2: when you do that and you're running kind of that
- 32:10Speaker 2: pick play, if Olave's not open, then you see what
- 32:13Speaker 2: your other option is, which not a whole lot.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Now, you could have thrown it to the running back.
- 32:18Speaker 2: He ran a swing, and nobody went out with him,
- 32:20Speaker 2: but your eyes as a quarterback, you're all on the
- 32:22Speaker 2: right side.
- 32:23Speaker 4: You're not even thinking about the left side. Yeah, are
- 32:25Speaker 4: we talking about the two-point? Yes. Sorry, my internet stopped working.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I got frustrated. Yeah, that was a bad call. I
- 32:33Speaker 4: hate that call. I really do. And, you know, the
- 32:36Speaker 4: only thing they didn't do that would have made it
- 32:39Speaker 4: even worse if it was a sprint out to the right,
- 32:40Speaker 4: and they did it. It's the same play they do.
- 32:42Speaker 4: It's just a snag route. They motion into it to
- 32:44Speaker 4: try to create some confusion on who has who. And
- 32:48Speaker 4: then you're trying to hit the flat route. Then if
- 32:50Speaker 4: you don't have it, you've got a corner over the
- 32:51Speaker 4: top because it's usually going to be man. But most
- 32:53Speaker 4: every defensive back in the world is looking for a
- 32:55Speaker 4: corner route down there in the NFL at least. So
- 33:00Speaker 4: it's a pass route that doesn't give you a ton
- 33:01Speaker 4: of options, and they had so much success driving down
- 33:05Speaker 4: the field in the second half and then towards the
- 33:07Speaker 4: end and in overtime. They had so much success attacking
- 33:10Speaker 4: the middle of the field. I would have liked to
- 33:12Speaker 4: see some sort of double route combination, some sort of
- 33:16Speaker 4: option on either side of you with somebody attacking the
- 33:18Speaker 4: middle of the field, getting a back out. You've got
- 33:21Speaker 4: to be alert for pressure and everything, but they had
- 33:23Speaker 4: done such a nice job. I would have loved to
- 33:26Speaker 4: see what play call– they had the play before that
- 33:30Speaker 4: because Detroit you know predictably they line up and they
- 33:33Speaker 4: show their formation and then Detroit calls a timeout they
- 33:37Speaker 4: come out and they don't trust it they switch it
- 33:39Speaker 4: to something else so you know how a play call
- 33:41Speaker 4: sheet works is you have your two-point plays yeah the
- 33:44Speaker 4: first one listed is the first one you're going to
- 33:46Speaker 4: call and why is it the first one because that
- 33:49Speaker 4: is what the quarterback has said in the offensive quarter
- 33:51Speaker 4: they they said that's the that's our best play that's
- 33:53Speaker 4: our best play yeah as a gotta have it situation
- 33:57Speaker 4: um And so they don't call that one. And you
- 34:00Speaker 4: don't know. Maybe that was the second call on their list.
- 34:02Speaker 4: Maybe they had already burned one on a fourth down
- 34:04Speaker 4: or something at some point during the game. And so
- 34:07Speaker 4: they line up and they say, okay, look, I don't
- 34:09Speaker 4: want Kelvin Shepard to see what we're going to do here.
- 34:11Speaker 4: We'll see what we're lined up. He's going to call
- 34:13Speaker 4: us some sort of defense. So we're going to switch
- 34:15Speaker 4: up the call. And now you've got to go down
- 34:17Speaker 4: to the next one. So let's just say it's the
- 34:19Speaker 4: second on the list. Well, that's the second favorite play
- 34:22Speaker 4: that you have for that situation. Or maybe it was
- 34:25Speaker 4: the third at that time. You don't. You don't really know,
- 34:28Speaker 4: but that's kind of how those play sheets are designed.
- 34:30Speaker 4: The first play you call is higher ranked from the
- 34:32Speaker 4: quarterback standpoint, and there's a bigger emphasis on that play.
- 34:36Speaker 4: So I would have liked to see what that one was, but,
- 34:37Speaker 4: you know, credited Detroit. That's why you call a timeout.
- 34:41Speaker 4: That's why you get that look and you see all
- 34:43Speaker 4: the good teams. They do that. They let them line up,
- 34:45Speaker 4: and they kind of get a glimpse of what the
- 34:49Speaker 4: other team's thinking. So, look, the– Tyler Shug played really bad.
- 34:55Speaker 2: And if you run that play that we're talking about,
- 34:58Speaker 2: and again, we'll show it to you tomorrow when we
- 34:59Speaker 2: get back in the studio, and a lot of emotions,
- 35:02Speaker 2: and then he goes right back out. I always like,
- 35:04Speaker 2: if you're going to run that motion in, at least
- 35:08Speaker 2: show me drag and then kick back out to the
- 35:11Speaker 2: front pylon because you have to have some kind of
- 35:14Speaker 2: momentum going to the left before you come back to
- 35:16Speaker 2: the right. If you don't, then the DB is going
- 35:19Speaker 2: to sit there and wait on you. So I don't mind.
- 35:22Speaker 2: If you want to motion in, you want to run
- 35:23Speaker 2: that play, turn it into a whip route. Now, it
- 35:26Speaker 2: doesn't have to be as long as a normal whip,
- 35:28Speaker 2: but just show me that you're threatening me going on
- 35:31Speaker 2: a drag before you come back out.
- 35:33Speaker 4: So the problem with the way that play is designed,
- 35:35Speaker 4: at least at that level, at the NFL level, is
- 35:38Speaker 4: you are basically putting all your chips in. You're pushing
- 35:43Speaker 4: your chips to the middle of the table and betting–
- 35:46Speaker 4: that you confuse the defense because you're trying to get
- 35:49Speaker 4: that one person open. None of those route concepts are
- 35:52Speaker 4: really anything that you're just going to win a one-on-one
- 35:54Speaker 4: battle on. Like you said, there's a snag route, so
- 35:57Speaker 4: the outside guy comes and he just sits over the ball.
- 35:59Speaker 4: He's not running a whip route, so there's no chance
- 36:01Speaker 4: of you beating him on a route and beating him one-on-one.
- 36:04Speaker 4: The corner, yeah, you could say he could, but down
- 36:06Speaker 4: that tight red zone, two-point conversion– It's hard to beat
- 36:11Speaker 4: a corner route in that look because everybody's– they know
- 36:14Speaker 4: what route combinations are. They know there's going to be
- 36:16Speaker 4: some sort of flat and some sort of back pylon situation.
- 36:20Speaker 4: So you're not setting your team up to where anybody
- 36:22Speaker 4: could win one-on-one. You were basically just betting that you
- 36:25Speaker 4: were going to confuse the defense and get someone scot-free
- 36:28Speaker 4: in the flat. And so, I don't know. But the
- 36:32Speaker 4: turnaround for me was awesome. Tyler Shuck played really bad
- 36:35Speaker 4: in the first half. Like really bad, right? He looked
- 36:37Speaker 4: like a quarterback.
- 36:37Speaker 2: He looked like a quarterback. that had not taken a
- 36:41Speaker 2: snap in the preseason. And he had joint practices, which
- 36:45Speaker 2: I think that helps you out there. But I would
- 36:48Speaker 2: like to see just, hey, even if it's a series,
- 36:52Speaker 2: put your uniform on, go out there with a crowd
- 36:55Speaker 2: and take a snap.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Because across the NFL.
- 36:59Speaker 2: A lot of guys that we expected to have great games,
- 37:02Speaker 2: struggled in the first half, did not play in the
- 37:04Speaker 2: preseason at all.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Yeah, a bit like night and day difference, played like
- 37:08Speaker 4: an all-pro type of player. Yeah. 410 yards. Your guy
- 37:12Speaker 4: that you just paid a lot of money to, to
- 37:13Speaker 4: catch passes, he caught passes. He caught them. 10 for 182,
- 37:15Speaker 4: Chris Alave. I got really nervous, too, in one of
- 37:19Speaker 4: the plays, the one that he kind of got banged
- 37:21Speaker 4: up on. I thought his head snapped back when I
- 37:25Speaker 4: saw it from the first angle. And then they replayed
- 37:27Speaker 4: it from behind, and his head didn't hit the ground.
- 37:29Speaker 4: He's got the guardian helmet on there. He does? He said,
- 37:32Speaker 4: I know I look like a bobblehead, but. Hey, self-awareness. Like,
- 37:35Speaker 4: if you're going to do it, just be self-aware. Yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Pretty good reason, he said. Yeah, he's had multiple concussions.
- 37:40Speaker 4: And he's got children. So, yeah, wear that garden cap.
- 37:43Speaker 4: That's what they make it. But, yeah, awesome second half.
- 37:47Speaker 4: A lot of fight. And probably on the other end,
- 37:49Speaker 4: Detroit's probably coming out and saying, we played really bad
- 37:51Speaker 4: in the second half.
- 37:52Speaker 2: And we still found a way to win. Yeah, I
- 37:53Speaker 2: get all that, but. But it's the Saints, you know.
- 37:58Speaker 4: The entire NFC South lost. Dang. A gift that keeps
- 38:03Speaker 4: on giving. I actually didn't know if Kellen Moore was
- 38:05Speaker 4: going to go for two at the end of the game. Oh,
- 38:06Speaker 4: I felt like I did. I felt like I was like, yeah,
- 38:08Speaker 4: he's going to. I thought I did. But then the
- 38:10Speaker 4: way you were controlling the second half, I get not.
- 38:14Speaker 4: doing it. But in overtime, going for two with a
- 38:17Speaker 4: minute 30, minute 40 left, yeah, go for two every time.
- 38:21Speaker 2: They've got a kicker that can make it from Auburn Hills, Michigan.
- 38:25Speaker 2: They don't have to get far. They move the ball
- 38:28Speaker 2: with ease in their drive during overtime. You didn't really
- 38:33Speaker 2: even slow them down. You see that. You see how
- 38:35Speaker 2: your offense is going. You know they've got a really
- 38:38Speaker 2: good kicker. There was plenty of time For them, even
- 38:42Speaker 2: if you do try to tie it up, for them
- 38:43Speaker 2: to go right down the field and score.
- 38:45Speaker 4: And you went right down the field just as easy
- 38:46Speaker 4: as they did. And the whole second half, you had
- 38:48Speaker 4: them on their heels as well. So you had to
- 38:51Speaker 4: feel good about picking up three yards. But then you
- 38:55Speaker 4: called that play. That was terrible. Pooh-pooh. Just an absolute
- 38:58Speaker 4: poo play. Yeah, I didn't love it.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Watching this offensive line go against Aiden Hutchinson wasn't great.
- 39:05Speaker 2: The right side of the line really struggled. Now, we
- 39:08Speaker 2: expect Cesar to struggle. Fuaga also struggled in this one, too. And, look,
- 39:12Speaker 2: you're going against Aiden Hutchinson.
- 39:14Speaker 4: I get it. One of the best in the league.
- 39:15Speaker 4: But he showed that there's levels to this.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And you did, like, even though, like, you could talk
- 39:21Speaker 2: about how many sacks and whatever, but he affected the
- 39:24Speaker 2: pocket in the first half so many different times. And
- 39:27Speaker 2: Tyler Shuck probably felt that as well. I mean, that's
- 39:29Speaker 2: right there in his head.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Face. Yeah, he bucked. No notes. Can't add to that. Yeah, no.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Let's not even talk about that first half. It's the
- 39:43Speaker 4: second half. Oh, okay. We don't talk about that.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I didn't realize until the show. If you don't get
- 39:47Speaker 2: your big... cankles off that cord.
- 39:49Speaker 4: When are we going wireless? When are we going wireless, Miz?
- 39:53Speaker 4: We need a little thing right here. A little pail pen? Yeah.
- 39:59Speaker 4: I didn't realize he threw for 400. He had a
- 40:03Speaker 4: career high. A lot of them had a career high.
- 40:07Speaker 2: He fell just short there. Defensively, you're going against a
- 40:12Speaker 2: really good offense. I thought there was times that they
- 40:16Speaker 2: did play well. The drive and overtime, like I said,
- 40:19Speaker 2: that was too easy. There was not a lot of strain,
- 40:22Speaker 2: but I thought for the most part, I mean, they
- 40:24Speaker 2: had 369 total yards in a game that got extended.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I get all that, but I thought you did a
- 40:29Speaker 2: pretty nice job. Third down, 5 of 13 for Detroit.
- 40:33Speaker 2: That's a good third down team. Has a lot of
- 40:35Speaker 2: third down weapons with kind of receivers and backs and
- 40:37Speaker 2: tight ends that they have, so I thought the defense
- 40:40Speaker 2: actually held their own at times.
- 40:41Speaker 4: And we'll continue talking about the Saints.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Again, they go down 31-30 on the road in overtime
- 40:47Speaker 2: against the Detroit Lions.
- 40:49Speaker 4: All right, we will step away.
- 40:50Speaker 2: We've got more coming your way when we jump back
- 40:52Speaker 2: here live from U Club.

- 42:12Speaker 4: What's a mob to a king? What's a king to
- 42:15Speaker 4: a guy? What's a guy to.
- 42:18Speaker 5: A non-believer who don't believe in anything?
- 42:26Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in.
- 42:27Speaker 2: OTB here live from the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament at
- 42:31Speaker 2: U Club. Jake Flynn and Moose here. Alonzo Tete back
- 42:36Speaker 2: in studio.
- 42:36Speaker 5: Oh.
- 42:40Speaker 4: How'd the old pontoon parlay go? I don't think it
- 42:43Speaker 4: went great. My Navy got crushed. They got crushed.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Mizzou won. Texas didn't. They won, but they didn't cover,
- 42:54Speaker 2: oddly enough, a one and a half point spread.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Yep.
- 42:56Speaker 2: So Mizzou won. Texas didn't cover. Navy didn't cover. Oklahoma
- 43:01Speaker 2: didn't cover. Mississippi State did.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Mississippi State covered by a lot. Shout out to Dick Dixon.
- 43:04Speaker 2: So Tay-Tay and Dick Dixon.
- 43:07Speaker 4: So we're two for three. An epic... non-shout out to
- 43:12Speaker 4: myself for my oklahoma take we were all there they
- 43:17Speaker 4: weren't very good we were all there with oklahoma yeah
- 43:20Speaker 4: no i know i had them we thought i think
- 43:22Speaker 4: i had them win the natty and mature winner the
- 43:23Speaker 4: heisman i think.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Well more than that we thought michigan stunk they kind
- 43:27Speaker 2: of still do.
- 43:28Speaker 4: But but like not not just for that pick for
- 43:30Speaker 4: the pontoon parlay but just um you know how much
- 43:34Speaker 4: I backed them going into this game because of one
- 43:36Speaker 4: conversation with Jim Nagy. Yeah, he sold us. He sold us.
- 43:40Speaker 4: He sold us a bill of goods. He did. He did.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Apparently not as good as we had hoped or thought. Yeah,
- 43:47Speaker 4: I didn't really hope.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I didn't care, but I definitely thought they were going
- 43:51Speaker 2: to beat Michigan. I mean, Western Michigan is a good
- 43:54Speaker 2: football team.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Seriously, they are. They were last year. They're well coached.
- 43:59Speaker 2: And Michigan did lose that game, but I allowed that
- 44:03Speaker 2: to cloud my judgment as well.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Yeah. I saw a great picture of John Mateer working
- 44:08Speaker 4: out this summer. It was posted. Posted Saturday night. Looking ripped.
- 44:13Speaker 4: The biceps huge. The abs popping. And he was dropping
- 44:17Speaker 4: back to throw. And it just had the caption, hold up,
- 44:21Speaker 4: let me overthrow this intermediate route by 15 yards real quick.
- 44:26Speaker 4: It was great. Yeah, he just couldn't hit it. His
- 44:29Speaker 4: biceps are too big. He worked out too much. And
- 44:31Speaker 4: that's why. I don't work out quite as often. I
- 44:35Speaker 4: want to be accurate. For what? Throwing in the backyard
- 44:38Speaker 4: with your child? Yes, exactly. Just in case, you know. Buddy,
- 44:44Speaker 4: you're not Phillip Rivers. Ain't nobody calling you. Come on.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Why not? Okay? That's not happening. I only played four years.
- 44:53Speaker 4: But you redshirted, so you can't even come back to college.
- 44:55Speaker 4: That's true.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I didn't redshirt. So, do you need me down there
- 45:00Speaker 2: on the kickoff? Would I be the last one down there?
- 45:04Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, yes. You'd beat the kicker because he's playing safety. Yeah, true.
- 45:11Speaker 4: I'd beat the L1 and the R1 because they're playing safety, too.
- 45:14Speaker 4: You know what I mean? I got to run past
- 45:16Speaker 4: them at some point. But, yes, okay, look, patting the
- 45:21Speaker 4: chest on that one. I was wrong. I was wrong
- 45:23Speaker 4: about Oklahoma, and I shouted it from the mountain. It's okay.
- 45:27Speaker 4: It's okay. We'll do.
- 45:28Speaker 2: We can do a little right, wrong, and indifferent a
- 45:30Speaker 2: little bit later on.
- 45:30Speaker 4: There's a lot of stuff I was wrong about. A
- 45:32Speaker 4: lot of stuff we were right about, too. But, oof.
- 45:35Speaker 2: You know this show. Unlike most shows, we like to
- 45:37Speaker 2: admit when we were wrong. We want to get out
- 45:39Speaker 2: in front of it and let you know that, hey,
- 45:41Speaker 2: we have takes, and sometimes our takes aren't right. We
- 45:43Speaker 2: don't champion only for the good ones.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Yep. Can't call us non-football guys because we actually are
- 45:48Speaker 4: champion Oklahoma. I went ahead and seen them play a
- 45:49Speaker 4: snap of football. So, just really a guess. Can't go wrong.
- 45:53Speaker 4: And on that note, we'll be back. More Hour 2
- 45:55Speaker 4: of OTB. off the bench.
