  Betrayed, but not defeated. Have you ever trusted someone
• 0:14
  deeply, only to feel that trust collapse without warning?

  Maybe a friend shared something you told them in confidence.
• 0:21
  Maybe people you counted on disappeared when things got
• 0:24
  uncomfortable. That kind of hurt cuts deep,
• 0:27
  because betrayal doesn't just wound your heart, it shakes your
• 0:30
  sense of safety and belonging. If you've ever felt abandoned or
• 0:34
  exposed, Matthew chapter 26 reminds you that Jesus knows
• 0:38
  that pain personally. At the table with his closest
• 0:41
  friends, Jesus says the words no one wants to hear.
• 0:45
  Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.
• 0:47
  He knew Judas choice before it happened.
• 0:49
  He wasn't naive. He wasn't caught off guard.
• 0:52
  And still he chose love. Later, standing before religious
• 0:56
  leaders who accused and mocked him, Jesus remained calm when
• 1:00
  pressed to defend himself. He spoke truth with confidence,
• 1:03
  declaring who he really was, the Son of God, seated at the right
• 1:07
  hand of power. Jesus didn't let lies define
• 1:09
  him. He didn't let fear steal his
• 1:11
  identity. And then came the moment that
• 1:14
  hurts to read. Then all the disciples left him
• 1:17
  and fled. Every one of them.
• 1:19
  The friends who promised loyalty, the ones who said
• 1:21
  they'd never leave. In Jesus darkest hour, he stood
• 1:24
  alone. Yet even then he was not
• 1:26
  defeated. Why?
• 1:28
  Because people walking away did not cancel God's purpose.
• 1:32
  That's such a powerful reminder for real life.
• 1:35
  Betrayal can feel like the end of the story, but with God it
• 1:38
  never is. People may fail you.
• 1:41
  Friends may disappoint you. Support may disappear.
• 1:44
  But God's plan doesn't depend on human loyalty.
• 1:47
  Jesus wasn't sustained by applause or abandoned by
• 1:50
  purpose. He knew who he was, and he
• 1:52
  trusted what the Father was doing, even when it hurt.
• 1:55
  When you're betrayed, the temptation is to shut down, lash
• 1:58
  out, or give up. But Jesus shows a different way.

  He stays rooted. He speaks truth.
• 2:04
  He entrusts himself to God, and through what looked like defeat,
• 2:07
  God was actually working redemption for the entire world.
• 2:11
  Your story may include betrayal, but it doesn't end there.
• 2:14
  You are not defined by who left, who failed, or who hurt you.
• 2:18
  You are defined by who God says you are and by the purpose he's
• 2:21
  placed on your life. Even when people walk away, God
• 2:24
  stays. Even when plans fall apart, his
• 2:26
  purpose stands. You may feel shaken, but you are
• 2:29
  not defeated. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that even when
• 2:34
  people betray or abandoned me, You never do.
• 2:37
  Help me stand firm in who You say I am, even when I
• 2:40
  misunderstood or hurt. Heal my heart from
• 2:43
  disappointment and teach me to trust Your purpose when things
• 2:46
  don't make sense. I choose to believe that what
• 2:49
  feels like defeat can still be part of Your greater plan.
• 2:52
  Give me strength, peace and courage to keep following You in
• 2:56
  Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for

  finished all these words, he said to his disciples, You know

  that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man

  will be delivered up to be crucified.

  Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the

  people were gathered together in the court of the high priest,

  who was called Caiaphas. They took counsel together that
• 4:42
  they might take Jesus by deceit and kill him.

  But they said not during the feast, lest a riot occur among
• 4:48
  the people. Now when Jesus was in Bethany,

  in the House of Simon the leper, a woman came to him having an
• 4:55
  alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on

  his head as he sat at the table. But when his disciples saw this,

  they were indignant, saying, Why this waste?

  For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to
• 5:07
  the poor. However, knowing this, Jesus

  said to them, Why do you trouble the woman?

  She has done a good work for me. For you always have the poor

  with you, but you don't always have me.

  For in pouring this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare
• 5:20
  me for burial. Most certainly.

  I tell you, wherever this good news is preached in the whole
• 5:25
  world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a
• 5:28
  memorial of her. Then one of the 12 who was
• 5:31
  called Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests and said, what
• 5:35
  are you willing to give me if I deliver him to you?
• 5:38
  So they wait out for him 30 pieces of silver.
• 5:40
  From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
• 5:44
  Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples
• 5:47
  came to Jesus saying to him, Where do you want us to prepare
• 5:50
  for you to eat the Passover? He said, Go into the city to a
• 5:54
  certain person and tell him, The teacher says, My time is at
• 5:57
  hand. I will keep the Passover at your
• 5:59
  house with my disciples. The disciples did as Jesus
• 6:03
  commanded them, and they prepared the Passover.

  Now when evening had come, he was reclining at the table with
• 6:09
  the 12 disciples. As they were eating, he said,
• 6:12
  most certainly. I tell you that one of you will
• 6:14
  betray me. They were exceedingly sorrowful,
• 6:17
  and each began to ask him. It isn't me, is it, Lord?
• 6:21
  He answered, He who dipped his hand with me in the dish will
• 6:24
  betray me. The Son of Man goes even as it
• 6:26
  is written of him. But woe to that man through whom
• 6:29
  the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man
• 6:32
  if he had not been born. Judas, who betrayed him,
• 6:35
  answered, It isn't me, is it, Rabbi?
• 6:37
  He said to him, You said it as they were eating.
• 6:41
  Jesus took bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it.
• 6:44
  He gave to the disciples and said, Take, eat, this is my
• 6:47
  body. He took the cup, gave thanks and
• 6:49
  gave to them, saying, All of you drink it, for this is my blood
• 6:53
  of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the
• 6:55
  remission of sins. But I tell you that I will not
• 6:58
  drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when
• 7:02
  I drink it anew with you in my Father's Kingdom.
• 7:04
  When they had sung A hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
• 7:08
  Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble
• 7:11
  because of me tonight. For it is written, I will strike
• 7:14
  the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
• 7:17
  But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.
• 7:21
  But Peter answered him, Even if all will be made to stumble
• 7:24
  because of you, I will never be made to stumble.
• 7:27
  Jesus said to him, most certainly.
• 7:29
  I tell you that tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny
• 7:32
  me three times. Peter said to him, Even if I
• 7:35
  must die with you, I will not deny you.
• 7:38
  All of the disciples also said likewise.
• 7:40
  Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and
• 7:44
  said to his disciples, Sit here while I go there and pray.
• 7:48
  He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to
• 7:51
  be sorrowful and severely troubled.
• 7:53
  Then Jesus said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful even to
• 7:57
  death, Stay here and watch with me.

  He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying,
• 8:03
  My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me.
• 8:07
  Nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire.
• 8:10
  He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to
• 8:13
  Peter, What couldn't you watch with me for one hour?
• 8:16
  Watch and pray that you don't enter into temptation.
• 8:19
  The Spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
• 8:22
  Again a second time he went away and prayed, saying, My Father,
• 8:26
  if this cup can't pass away from me unless I drink it, your
• 8:29
  desire be done. He came again and found them
• 8:32
  sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
• 8:34
  He left them again, went away and prayed 1/3 time, saying the
• 8:37
  same words. Then he came to his disciples
• 8:40
  and said to them, Are you still sleeping and resting?
• 8:43
  Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into
• 8:47
  the hands of sinners. Arise, let's be going.
• 8:50
  Behold, he who betrays me is at hand.
• 8:53
  While he was still speaking, behold, Judas one of the 12
• 8:56
  came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs
• 8:59
  from the chief priests and elders of the people.

  Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign saying,
• 9:05
  Whoever I kiss, he is the one sees him.
• 9:07
  Immediately he came to Jesus and said, Greetings Rabbi, and
• 9:11
  kissed him. Jesus said to him, Friend, why
• 9:13
  are you here? Then they came and laid hands on
• 9:16
  Jesus and took him. Behold, one of those who were
• 9:19
  with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and
• 9:22
  struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
• 9:25
  Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back into its place, for
• 9:29
  all those who take the sword will die by the sword.
• 9:32
  Or do you think that I couldn't ask my Father, and he would even
• 9:35
  now send me more than 12 legions of angels?
• 9:38
  How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?
• 9:41
  In that hour? Jesus said to the multitudes,
• 9:44
  Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to
• 9:47
  seize me? I sat daily in the temple
• 9:49
  teaching, and you didn't arrest me.
• 9:52
  But all this has happened, that the scriptures of the prophets
• 9:54
  might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him
• 9:57
  and fled. Those who had taken Jesus led
• 10:00
  him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and
• 10:03
  the elders were gathered together.
• 10:05
  But Peter followed him from a distance to the court of the
• 10:08
  high priest and entered in and sat with the officers to see the
• 10:11
  end. Now the chief priests, the
• 10:14
  elders, and the whole council sought false testimony against
• 10:17
  Jesus, that they might put him to death, and they found none.
• 10:20
  Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none.
• 10:24
  But at last two false witnesses came forward and said, This man
• 10:27
  said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it
• 10:31
  in three days. The high priest stood up and
• 10:34
  said to him, Have you no answer? What is this, that these testify
• 10:37
  against you? But Jesus stayed silent.
• 10:40
  The high priest answered him, I adjure you by the living God,
• 10:43
  that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.
• 10:47
  Jesus said to him, You have said so.
• 10:49
  Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man
• 10:53
  sitting at the right hand of power and coming on the clouds
• 10:56
  of the sky. Then the high priest tore his
• 10:58
  clothing, saying, He has spoken blasphemy.

  Why do we need any more witnesses?
• 11:03
  Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy, What do you think?
• 11:07
  They answered, He is worthy of death.
• 11:09
  Then they spat in his face and beat him with their fists, and
• 11:12
  some slapped him, saying, Prophecy to us, you Christ, who
• 11:15
  hit you. Now Peter was sitting outside in
• 11:17
  the court, and a maid came to him saying You were also with
• 11:21
  Jesus the Galilean. But he denied it before them
• 11:24
  all, saying, I don't know what you were talking about.
• 11:27
  When he had gone out onto the porch, someone else saw him and
• 11:30
  said to those who were there, This man also was with Jesus of
• 11:33
  Nazareth. Again he denied it with an oath.
• 11:37
  I don't know the man. After a little while, those who
• 11:39
  stood by came and said to Peter, surely you are also one of them,
• 11:43
  for your speech makes you known. Then he began to curse and to
• 11:46
  swear. I don't know the man.
• 11:48
  Immediately the rooster crowed. Peter remembered the word which
• 11:52
  Jesus had said to him before. The rooster crows, You will deny
• 11:55
  me three times. Then he went out and wept
• 11:58
