- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls, It's that time you've been waiting for
- 0:04since last December January sometime. The crazy sheets back twenty twenty Four's here,
- 0:09college football, playoff, new conferences, realignment, the nil. The world's
- 0:13fucking crazy. Let's enjoy it. I'm marking. I'm here in the podcasting
- 0:17studio. Scotty, how the hell are you, brother? It's been a
- 0:19while, man, I'm great excited to talk a little football man and is
- 0:23basically pawn us win to just look into July. I mean it is.
- 0:28I mean it is here. NFL teams were reporting to camps. Man,
- 0:32it's here. It's almost so I'm excited looking forward to it. I don't
- 0:36know why, because I think my bulldogs are gonna suck ass, but I
- 0:39think the Rebels are gonna be really good. So you know, I don't
- 0:43know why I'm all fired up about it, but I'm fired up just the
- 0:45same man, you and I this year. If you're gonna get an objective
- 0:49view of teams around the country this year from Scotty and I think this year
- 0:52is the year to get it because both of our alma maters WOA. We
- 0:56might not have ten wins between the two teams. I think it's entirely possible.
- 1:00I will say that the drop to three and a half on Missipi State's
- 1:03over under win total makes me lean to the over. But and notice I
- 1:08said lean, because I could easily see this team being I mean, black
- 1:12shaven gets hurt. Hell, this team's gonna be lucky to win anything.
- 1:15I mean, I mean, it's just and it's only because our quarterbacks are
- 1:19so the quarterback room is so young, you know, behind him. So
- 1:25the goal for Levy this year is to just literally show something on offense that
- 1:30will excite recruits in the fan base, because candidly, this defense is not
- 1:34going to be very good. He is recruiting significantly better than I thought he
- 1:40would in this first year, especially in life of the success that oldness is
- 1:44having, So please buy that. But Stave, missipis also loaded too,
- 1:49so I mean you ought to be able to get your fair share. So
- 1:52but anyway, that's you're right. We may not win ten games between us,
- 1:56but I do lean at three and a half to over because we do
- 1:57have some we do play some bad teams, and the teams that are closest
- 2:01to State in the in the league, they get a couple of them at
- 2:04home, so that's a good that at least gives you a fighting shot.
- 2:07They'll they'll end by complete drubbing in Oxford, UH to end that year which
- 2:13Lane, And it is very clear Levy is not a Lane fan. No
- 2:16one's told me this. I have actually been privy to a conversation, so
- 2:23I know, but I'm not going to talk about that. But I don't
- 2:28think they like each other very much. And based on media days that we
- 2:30all saw, I think it really pisses him off, all the needling and
- 2:35stuff that he does. I just don't think he thinks Kippen's a good dude
- 2:39at his core. So anyway, there you go. I will say this.
- 2:43You'll get a good laugh out of this, because everybody knows my opinion
- 2:46of Art Briles. I have an open invitation if he would like to go
- 2:50to a ball game, and he's welcome to go with me. I've made
- 2:52this two people in the program as well, and if somebody doesn't like it,
- 2:55they're gonna get told exactly what the hell I think, because, as
- 2:59I've said more couple of times, if you're stupid enough to think the football
- 3:01coach can make great allegations go away, and you're too stupid for me to
- 3:06talk to. So there's our Mississippi State highlight coverage for the entire year.
- 3:09You can shut it down if you're from Stark, Vegas and just be ready
- 3:13to enjoy the season. No, I'm kidding. College football, man,
- 3:15it's so right back on top of it. We've got new coaches, we've
- 3:20got a different lot of things that have moved around. Things are changing.
- 3:23We're gonna do a quick recap. We're gonna go ahead and dive into the
- 3:25monster of the SEC. We'll knock out the Big ten tomorrow. Start putting
- 3:30these things out as fast as we can. The game has changed, man.
- 3:35The video games back out. For those of you that like video games,
- 3:38it's E twenty five or whatever it is. Come. I haven't played
- 3:40that since I was in college. But see, people seem to be excited
- 3:45about it. I talked to a kid last time, so fired up about
- 3:46it. I mean just just absolutely out of control. I mean just absolutely
- 3:53just NonStop. That's all they are is upstairs want to play. I love
- 3:55it. Love bringing the excitement back to the game. There's a lot that's
- 4:00wrong with it, but man, It's always been an imperfect sport that we
- 4:01can get in there, Scotty. First thing I want to talk about with
- 4:04major college coaching changes, major changes coming into this year. Number one,
- 4:10let's talk about the team that won the Natty. Jimmy Khaki Pants did exactly
- 4:13what we thought he would do, which was say, ef it, man,
- 4:15I'm just riding off in the sunset, so I don't care what y'all
- 4:17say at the end of it. And we ring Sharon Moore in to take
- 4:20over the Michigan job. We've talked about this time and time again. Bro,
- 4:25Big jobs need big coaches, and I like Sharon Moore and I think
- 4:28he could do some good things. But this is a hard spot to start
- 4:32as your first coaching gig ever, be taking over Michigan after winning a Natty.
- 4:39I don't know that his pants can he can pull these up tight enough
- 4:42to do the doing well this season. You know what, It's so funny
- 4:46that because I think you and I totally agree on this, I think he
- 4:48absolutely earned the job with everything that went on with hardball. Instead, honestly,
- 4:53Michigan was kind of at a basketball they had to hire it. Yeah,
- 4:56I mean, because he's done such a good job. I think you
- 4:59lose that locker room if you don't pick him. I really believe that.
- 5:03Having said that, man first year coach, first year coaches are going to
- 5:08struggle. We talked about it last year. We hit that over under win
- 5:11total little Mississippi State simply because he was a simply because he was a first
- 5:15year coach, and he lost games he should have won. That's the bottom
- 5:19line, and that is I think exactly what's going to happen this year with
- 5:25trum Moore. Even though I really like him, I don't know how good
- 5:28the idea of ground and pound is gonna be. I know they're gonna have
- 5:30a great defense, but this is not nineteen ninety. It is a different
- 5:34world out there, and there are some teams that can score in this league.
- 5:39So and it has not worked well for James Franklin at Fenn State,
- 5:43so I don't think it's a good idea. So anyway, we'll see about
- 5:46there. I think long term it's a good hire. I think he'll do
- 5:48well, but I do expect them to struggle more than expected this year,
- 5:53even though I think that defense canna be great. Calen de Boor takes over
- 5:57Alabama. I think a lot of people that weren't like total college football nerds
- 6:01like you and I might have been a little surprised about that because they probably
- 6:04didn't know who Kaylen de Boor was until last season when he took Washington into
- 6:10the NATTY. I like the higher I like what he's done with the roster
- 6:13since he's gotten there. I think he's done a really good job in recruiting.
- 6:16I am very interested to see Jalen Milroe this season and see what he's
- 6:20gonna do. Because if Kaylen de Boer can do anything that we've seen,
- 6:25it's he pushes the ball downfield, which Jalen Milroe can do. Uh.
- 6:28And I like, I think we're gonna see a lot of Jalen Milroe legs.
- 6:30I mean, I watched his kid play in high school and and he's
- 6:33he's a powerful man. And I think we're gonna see a little bit more
- 6:36explosive offense out of Alabama this year. I really do. The offensive line
- 6:41is gonna have to gel and get better. Uh. That was a problem
- 6:44last year. Last year it was so overlooked. The center for Alabama last
- 6:48year could not snap the damn ball. And I think that really actually caused
- 6:51him some problems. Yeah and so and so there's a lot going on there.
- 7:00But anyway, I like what de Bor's done. Offensive line has been
- 7:02shuffled, They've moved the center out to guard. I like what you've got
- 7:06on this team. Defensively, I think they're defensively is my biggest question mark
- 7:10with Bama this season. But I think they're gonna put points up in bunches.
- 7:14But I like what Debor's done. I think he stepped in nicely and
- 7:16he's going to keep the Alabama moving in a positive direction. I think Kaylyn
- 7:21de Bor was the best hire Alabama could have made, because at the end
- 7:26of the day, everybody was all they're going after Dan Lanny. First off,
- 7:29I don't believe that. I think Kaitlyn de Bor's who where they were
- 7:30after the whole time. I think that is agent money moving around. Jimmy
- 7:35Sexton, goodness gracious, that guy can move tips on the board. Have
- 7:42a great story about him and the Jeff Levy higher we'll get into later,
- 7:45but it is a I mean, the guy can move chips on the board,
- 7:49and just I think that's who was always going there. He was just
- 7:54getting other guys money. I don't think Dan Lanning is better higher than Kaylyn
- 7:58Bor. I'll tell you, I think the was a better football coach.
- 8:01I think he's I think he's what Bama had to have. They needed somebody
- 8:05who could get an offense roll and get it back Sartwise, Sart was not
- 8:09leaving Texas for Obama. And obviously, you know you're not gonna get You're
- 8:15not going to get some of the guys who've been in that Bama program that
- 8:18are already at big jobs. I mean that I saw people when it first
- 8:20happened that were like, well, what's Georgia gonna do? Man, if
- 8:24you thought that he was leaving Georgia to take Alabama, you are so stupid
- 8:30that I truly can't talk to you. Because Kirby smarts and a lum,
- 8:35I mean, loves that school. I mean, that was just stupid.
- 8:37So I think Debora was a great hire. He's done a much better job
- 8:41recruiting than I think anybody expected, and really has that Alabama fan base excited.
- 8:46Offensively. The dude is a wizard on offense. I mean, look
- 8:52that I loved that Washington team. Everybody knows it. Last year that was
- 8:56not one of the two most talented teams in the country. They were good,
- 9:00but they weren't that good, and we saw it when they started really
- 9:03playing. I mean, man, Michigan just overpowered them, and I think
- 9:07Alabama was gonna do the same thing. Had they played on Candid Lake,
- 9:11Texas probably should have. I think as a failure on Sarch Park. A
- 9:15couple of other hires I thought were great. Jonathan Smith going to Michigan State.
- 9:20I think it's a fantastic higher Oregon State. People don't realize how hard
- 9:24it is to build that program to where it is. I think him at
- 9:26Michigan State is a really good fit. I also think him coming in when
- 9:30Michigan's having to reboot their coaching tree is going to be a big deal.
- 9:33I like him a lot. I don't think they're going to be very good
- 9:37this year. Little teaser, but the under on Houston and if you can
- 9:41get it under four and a half, grab it. I love me some
- 9:43Willie Fritz, but I don't think this team is going to be good at
- 9:45all this season. They weren't good his first year at Tulane and so I
- 9:50think he's gonna get it right. But that roster is a long way away.
- 9:54I like the Elk Fritz and such a difference coach and such a more
- 9:58of a discipline response disability guy coming in after Holderson's just a train wreck as
- 10:03zeroed out. Couldn't agree with a couple other hires. I like the Elko
- 10:07hired A and M. I think it's a we needed a quiet, strong
- 10:11voice for A and M after Jimbo was such a disaster. I mean,
- 10:15it was just and I think Elco's in a good spot. The roster's good.
- 10:18He did a good job of pulling guys back in. He recruited well,
- 10:22so I'm interested to see what Elko's done. A couple others I'm interested
- 10:26in. I thought that John summer All hired at Tulane was great. I
- 10:30know, I know most people don't even know who that guy is, but
- 10:33I think that was a great Tulane is proving to me that they are all
- 10:35in on trying to be a good football team. I mean, with what
- 10:39they've got making that higher. I love Kirk Signetti going to Indiana after being
- 10:43at James Madison. I thought that was a really good move on his part,
- 10:48and I think Indiana could be one of those you're gonna get some big
- 10:50numbers that you could lay into with Indiana in this big ten schedule. I'll
- 10:56be real interested as they want to do. And then my last two are
- 10:58out West Fish going to Washington again. I don't think this team is going
- 11:03to be very good this year, but I really like the hire. And
- 11:05then way down the ladder, let's go all the way to the mountain West
- 11:09where life's too short to huddle. Sean Lewis going to San Diego State.
- 11:13I think this is a great hire after years of defense and just slog it
- 11:18out games, and then you kind of had Barry Hope just trying to do
- 11:22whatever he was going to do to finish his career, and you bring in
- 11:26a high flying offense that's gonna go, go, go, go go.
- 11:30And I think being in southern California and being in a G five level,
- 11:33this is a there's talent out there that you could build this program around.
- 11:37So that's kind of where I am at on the hires. What about you?
- 11:39You got any that you like out there? I love my probably my
- 11:43favorite higher I'll just give you a couple of couple of quick ones. Brennan
- 11:48is probably my favorite hire. I think he's walking into a tremendous situation.
- 11:54I think he's got a great quarterback. He's in Arizona. By the way,
- 11:56if you don't know who that it is, Aridonia. Yeah. I
- 12:00think McMillan is one of the best wide receivers in the country. I think
- 12:03that guy is electric. I think they're gonna do some great, great things
- 12:09at Arizona. Love him going into the conference. I will also stay out
- 12:13west and give you my gonna be a complete and utter disaster, and this
- 12:18program is a train wreck to Shaun Foster in UCLA. I mean, the
- 12:24guy's never been a head coach. It's he's coached running backs, which is
- 12:28not a generally a spot where that's generally a recruiting spot. That's not where
- 12:33you transition into head coaches very often. Look, the guy was a tremendous
- 12:37player, so it's not like he doesn't understand the game. I think this
- 12:41is a gigantic learning curve with them rolling into a conference that there just simply
- 12:46isn't the ability to roll in on a learning curve. I think this is
- 12:48gonna be a complete and uttered disaster, and I think they're changing directions.
- 12:54You talk about schools that are making commitments to be good. In Tulane,
- 12:58this is a school that's making a commitment to suck. I would think.
- 13:03I think his UCLA job is completely overrated. Not hard, because it's a
- 13:07hard job. They play off tampus. Did you see ESPN's ranking of top
- 13:13of top venues. Are we talking about the Rose Bowl? Are we talking
- 13:18about every Saturday when that place is a damn tomb and you Seela's playing out
- 13:22there, because that's different. Yeah, Rose Bowl is awesome. That's one
- 13:26day a year. That place in remotely one of the twenty five best places
- 13:30to play in America. I mean that was laughable. I mean, to
- 13:33me, whoever wrote that, and I don't even I saw the first couple
- 13:37of spots, I just put it down. You got you've got the Rose
- 13:41Bowl ranked over Happy Valley. Really, I mean, that's just stupidity.
- 13:46Whoever wrote that's an idiot and should be banned from sports writing forever. So
- 13:52anyway, I think that UCLA job is a really, really tough job.
- 13:54I think it's gonna be I think that's not gonna end well. So having
- 13:58said that, that's my favorite, and my these favorites, and they're back
- 14:01to back states and out west, and that is probably not what people expected.
- 14:07I do like the Jeff Levy high a Mississippi State. I think if
- 14:09anyone can get Mississippi State turned around, it's gonna take a guy like this
- 14:15who's got a unique offense, who can make some things happen. I thought
- 14:18State's final couple of guys were actually really good. John some rawls on that
- 14:22list. I don't think there was ever really any doubt that he was gonna
- 14:26end up with Levy for a couple of reasons, but you know him being
- 14:31at the new ad Ben an ex Oklahoma guy, and I think that's where
- 14:35Sexton wanted Levy. So I do think Levy is a up and coming guy,
- 14:39which gives me some hope. State is a hard job, and it's
- 14:41getting harder by the day that they simply just have got to figure out how
- 14:48to come up with the money to compete in N I L and they just
- 14:52don't. We just don't have it. I mean, that's the bottom line.
- 14:54We are not on par with everybody else in the Southeastern Conference. So
- 14:58it's a tough job. Last week, I'm gonna point out, how about
- 15:01my man Jerry Kill taking his quarterback and Digo Pavia to go to Vandy to
- 15:07go coach there, and then they bring in Bronco Menden Hall in New Mexico.
- 15:13I mean, if Minden Hall gets them to a bowl game this year,
- 15:18that guy needs I don't know what his overall record's gonna be. You
- 15:20gotta needs a big college football Hall of Fame. Absolutely he does. You
- 15:24have to win over so I think you gotta win sixty six sixty five percent
- 15:28of your games to be in the hall, because you saw what happens when
- 15:33Leaches one game was is total bs. If you give him the ball,
- 15:35win, he wins, he gets in, or you take out the COVID
- 15:39year where where we played ten SEC games and he and he and he gets
- 15:43in. And then too, Mike, if Mike Lea's in the Hall of
- 15:46Famer, you need to do away with the Hall of Fame. That has
- 15:48nothing to do with Mississippi State. That guy changed the game. Oh,
- 15:50I completely A few people change games. That guy change the game. If
- 15:54he's not a Hall of Famer, then it's not really a Hall of fame.
- 15:58I would completely agree with you, and I love the fact that what
- 16:02the average I need to research this what's the average win total for Tech for
- 16:07Mississippi State and Washington State career wise, not including Leech and then with Leech,
- 16:14because I guarantee you it's significantly higher at most schools. I know State's
- 16:18an under five hundred program for its career. So I'm just telling you I
- 16:26think the guy's a Hall of t Yeah. Tech, I'll know when we
- 16:30get to the Big twelve and I'll research that, But I think the Tech
- 16:33was closed because I've researched this. Once Washington State he significantly outperformed, and
- 16:37he outperformed Atssissippi State as well. They were similar if I remember right at
- 16:42Tech, but because I've looked at it, I just can't remember the numbers
- 16:45to lay it out there. But the guy's a Hall of famer. That's
- 16:48the bottom line. Tech has not had a I'll throw you for a good
- 16:53one right here. I don't think Tech has had a without a bowl game.
- 16:59I'm not sure Tech's had a winning record since twenty fifteen. Yeah,
- 17:04twenty fifteen was the last time Matt Wells had one winning record, but he
- 17:08had to win the Liberty Bowl to get there. So Tech since Mike Leach
- 17:12has just is muddled around at best. But no, that's beside the point.
- 17:17We'll talk about all that stuff later. They don't even have to worry
- 17:19about it, Scotty. I want to dive into the SEC, the most
- 17:22interesting conference, the biggest conference. Obviously, unless you're asleep under a rock
- 17:27somewhere, you got to realize that what they're doing in the SEC is going
- 17:32to in turn dictate what we're doing in college football, which is probably how
- 17:36it should be, because this is a conference that is better run, more
- 17:40invested than anybody else in the country in college football. If you haven't paid
- 17:45attention, things are going to change this year. The College Football Playoff is
- 17:48now a twelve team tournament. The top four teams will get buy as that
- 17:52opening weekend, and to get the buye you have to be a conference winner
- 17:56of a power for conference, So SEC, Big twelve, Big ten,
- 18:02ACC is how you get a buy All other buys will be at large.
- 18:07One G five team will get admitted into the College Football Championship. They will
- 18:11decide seeding based on where you're ranked, and that will dictate who gets the
- 18:17home field for the opening games, which I think is a really neat twist
- 18:21on something we haven't seen at the Division IE level of college football. They've
- 18:25been doing this at the lower level forever. Another interesting thing, Most conferences,
- 18:30all but one, have gone away from divisions, and so in a
- 18:33sense, they're going to take the two best teams in that conference to play
- 18:37for a conference championship, which to me doesn't make a ton of sense for
- 18:41a lot of these schools. But we'll figure that out as we go.
- 18:44I do not know what the tiebreaker is in the SEC to determine if it's
- 18:48a if they're tied on what gets Okay, I didn't know. I haven't
- 18:52seen it because every year it's a little bit every conference is a little bit
- 18:56different on how they've decided that they're going to do that. But they still
- 18:59will be in Atlanta. It will be the weekend after the Army Navy game.
- 19:02That'll be standing or excuse me, the weekend before the Army Navy games.
- 19:04All right, No, we get after the Army Episode's right there,
- 19:07standalone championship weekend. Then we'll follow that up the following weekend by diving right
- 19:11into the playoffs, which I like, not taking a month off and starting
- 19:15this again and just keep these teams rolling and keeping some momentum. I think
- 19:18that's a good idea, So SEC laying it out there, Scottie. Obviously,
- 19:23the betting favorite in the SEC is gonna be Georgia. They bring back
- 19:27a lot. I'm gonna suggest we kind of roll through the SEC. We
- 19:30don't have to hit every team. If you want to do a deep dive
- 19:33on some you can. We'll scrape through. But I'm just gonna go alphabetical
- 19:37and looking what we've got here, I'll start with Bama. Uh. You
- 19:41know, when you look at this Bama team, they bring in a new
- 19:42head coach and Kaitlin de Boor. Uh. They bring back a lot of
- 19:45talent around the offensive side. They bring back Proctor and Booker on the offensive
- 19:49line. Outside, there are a lot of new skill position talent. But
- 19:52they bring back ja Jalen Milroe, which I think you're gonna see big things
- 19:56out of him. Uh. And so offensive with this Bama team, I
- 20:00think you're still going to see some explosion. This team went twelve and two
- 20:03last year. They put some points up. I think they could be more
- 20:06dynamic offensively this year than they were last year. Defensively is where I've got
- 20:10some questions, especially on the back end. Malaco Moore is the only returning
- 20:15started that they bring back in that defensive secondary. But I'm even worried about
- 20:18them in the you know, that's where I wonder are they going to struggle?
- 20:22And because there's if this is going to be the best crop of SEC
- 20:26quarterbacks that you and I have seen since we've started doing this. As far
- 20:30as top to bottom goes, this is going to be the most offensive conference
- 20:33we have ever seen the SEC beat this year. This looks very big,
- 20:36twelve ish over the last couple of years. There's a lot of talent here
- 20:38and I'm excited to watch it all. But this Vama team. I'm looking
- 20:41for this Bama team. If Vegas odds nine and a half, we're not
- 20:45used to seeing a nine and a half over under win total Onbama. I
- 20:48mean, this was a team that we've had to bet eleven and a half
- 20:51eleven's if you wanted to get there a couple of times at nine and a
- 20:53half, and they're not the betting favorite to win the championship with Georgia.
- 20:56Being that, I like this Bamba team. I'm very interested what you got.
- 21:00I think you're gonna get some value on betting this Bama team as the
- 21:03season goes on. I'm also looking for a lot of totals because I think
- 21:07this team's gonna hang some numbers. Yeah, I do think they're gonna score,
- 21:11and I do think their defense is not gonna be as good, and
- 21:12I think the SEC is gonna be better. This is the worst schedule draw
- 21:17I think I've ever seen Vama get in the league. They usually get a
- 21:19cupcake, and they did not get a cupcake this year. I mean,
- 21:25they're they're Tennessee at LSU at Oklahoma. I think all three of those games
- 21:29they win. If they're in Tuscaloosa, they can lose a couple of those
- 21:33on the road pretty easy. But they draw Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri,
- 21:37and Auburn on the other side. That's the that's their four home games
- 21:41there. Look, they're not as good as Georgia. I don't think.
- 21:45I don't think they're as good of a football team as Georgia. South Carolina
- 21:48is gonna be a better football team. I believe Missouri is a team on
- 21:52an offense. Especially if you talk about a game, we're gonna be looking
- 21:55at a total number. That could be a really fun game. When that
- 21:59game comes around over twenty six and then I think all I think Auburn's gonna
- 22:03be better, so I think they're getting some improving teams. I think nine
- 22:07and a half's exactly where that number ought to be. I don't see that
- 22:10they can that they will lose. This team's too talented and divorce Stu good
- 22:14of a coach for them to lose under lose more than three games, but
- 22:18I could easily see him doing it, especially if somebody gets banged up and
- 22:22they got to go to backup quarterbacks. Even though unlike Paul Finebaum, I
- 22:26am a fan of their backup quarterback, I think he's gonna be a really
- 22:29I think Simpson's gonna be a really really good player by the time it's all
- 22:32said and done. Uh what you know, where he ends up in the
- 22:36event he doesn't end up being the Bama quarterback will be kind of a sweet
- 22:38stakes. He's a coach's kid, good player. So anyway, I like
- 22:41Bama as well, but I think that over under win totals right about where
- 22:45it should be. No, I agree. I've got interested in the second
- 22:48week of the season when they play South Florida because the South Florida offense was
- 22:52humming last year and game last year they almost almost beat them. I think
- 22:57Bill Rose a better quarterback. I agree with you. I think I think.
- 23:00I think you're going to see him run the ball more. Yeah,
- 23:03that's gonna look as you know, the Borers got the ability to get guys
- 23:08open down the field, and they certainly have no shortage of speed. So
- 23:11in the weirdest move we're going to talk about in the SEC you've got Sam
- 23:15Pittman Uncle Sam, So we're gonna call him off season just uncle Sam.
- 23:18I love Sam. I think Sam is on the hot seat. I think
- 23:22this is Sam's probably last year to coach at Arkansas. Hell did they not
- 23:26fir him last year? And then to do it even stranger, Let's bring
- 23:30back a celebrated disaster that one time coached at Arkansas until he rode himself into
- 23:37a ditch with the ga on the back of his motorcycle and Bobby Petrino to
- 23:41see if he can reboot this offense. kJ Jefferson is gone. He's transferred
- 23:45to U. See f I do like the quarterback that they brought in from
- 23:49Boise State. I think that dude. I watched the spring tape on this
- 23:53and these guys were spinning the bean bro and Arkansas is going to be very
- 23:59fast, needing to be in a sense from a betting standpoint, because they
- 24:02got nothing to lose. Man, they're over under win totals four and a
- 24:04half. You've got a coaching staff that knows if it's either get to a
- 24:08bowl this year or you're all looking for jobs next year. I don't have
- 24:12a total dig on their roster, but I just think it's an interesting Days
- 24:17of our lives story that we may be playing some into their second game of
- 24:22the year when they play at Oklahoma State. Could be fascinating because Oklahoma State,
- 24:26I think, has got a chance to make the playoffs and win the
- 24:29Big Twelve. They've got a lot of returning starters. I mean they returned
- 24:33twenty two, so I think twenty one starters, whereas Nebraska or Arkansas hardly
- 24:36brings back anything. And so I don't know what you're gonna get, but
- 24:38I think it's an interesting story in Woo Pig suey, let's get the five
- 24:42wins. Yeah, A that that's gonna be an interesting time. I agree
- 24:47with you. I think this is Christman's last year. It would. I
- 24:51just don't looking at this schedule, I don't know how in the world they
- 24:55get BAWL eligible because again it's the teams they're the closest to in the conference,
- 25:00Auburn, Mississippi State. They're on the road, you know, and
- 25:06that is tough. I mean, I mean, are they gonna beat Texas
- 25:11Ole, miss LSU and Tennessee at home? Probably not again at neutral like
- 25:17they always do. Just can't see how this team gets over So no,
- 25:19I would agree with that. Let's talk about Auburn year two, Hugh Freese
- 25:25coming in here. This team underperformed last year, which we thought they would.
- 25:29They did get better as the season went on. When Hugh free stepped
- 25:32back in and took over that offense, you could start seeing it improve.
- 25:37Peyton Thorne got more comfortable in it, he got better around it. As
- 25:40we move into this season, this team thin is six and seven last year
- 25:42three and five in the SEC. I see improve it from this team,
- 25:47but I don't know that they have a chance to compete for the SEC championship
- 25:52or to make it into the tournament. But from what I'm seeing and what
- 25:53I'm reading about Auburn, I think they're gonna be all in in twenty twenty
- 25:56five, Hugh Freeze did not go out and spent in money on getting a
- 26:00new quarterback because I don't think he saw anybody that he thought he could bring
- 26:03in that would automatically fix that team. With the roster and the shape it's
- 26:07in, I think it's improved. I think we get more offensive production out
- 26:11of them, But I don't think this team has a chance to win more
- 26:14than eight games and does not make the College Football Playoff? Am I missing
- 26:17anything on the planes? No, I do think they're going to be improved.
- 26:19I think they have a legitimate chance to be that team that's in that
- 26:23mesh of six seven wins that has a chance to step forward simply because of
- 26:29where they play the teams. They get some home games against teams that are
- 26:33maybe slightly better, but because it's at home, they'll have a chance to
- 26:36win it. But I think Freeze is doing it the way he did it
- 26:40in Ix, which is trying to build through the high school ranks into recruiting,
- 26:42not the portal, which is a surprise because they'll miss I mean,
- 26:47Auburn has money to go get it in the portal, but he is trying
- 26:52to build it and bring guys in, and I think a lot of that's
- 26:53got to do with culture and what he's trying to do, so I'll be
- 26:57interesting. I do think next year is the year that Auburn will be what
- 27:02I think people are expecting Auburn football to be. Florida Gators, Baby,
- 27:07Sunbelt Billy. There can't be a team that's more talked about than this team
- 27:11that did not win six games last year. Graham Mertz came in, Sunbelt
- 27:17Billy came in. He's trying to build things long term. He recruited the
- 27:21number one, you know quarterback in the country, or you could argue that
- 27:23you did, but the Gatorade Player of the Year to Kid Lagway in this
- 27:27freshman class. I thought Graham Mertz was better last year. I thought,
- 27:32if you go look at his numbers, he's way better at Florida than he
- 27:34was at Wisconsin, way better. But this team, to me looked a
- 27:40little out of shape, kind of soft at times. I don't know that
- 27:42they've got the physicality that's there. Their schedule this year is brutal. It's
- 27:48gotta be one of the hardest schedules I've ever seen. I know we talk
- 27:51about that. Every single year. They play eight teams that I've got power
- 27:55ranked in the top twenty, and it is gonna be rough from beginning to
- 27:57end. Even playing you is going to be tough for the squad. But
- 28:02I like what I see from Florida. I think this team can get the
- 28:04six wins. They're over under win totals four and a half. I lean
- 28:08to the over, but I look to play Florida quite a bit this season.
- 28:14Who thinks it's a good idea to play Miami, Florida State, and
- 28:18uc F out of conference. I don't know who did this. I don't
- 28:21know if it's got Strickland previous ad, I don't know, but boy,
- 28:23that's a disaster. So Gator's got a tough schedule, a lot of conference.
- 28:29I think that sets them up for some failure. They're also at Texas,
- 28:33at Tennessee, They're at Florida State, They're at Mississippi State, and
- 28:37then they played Georgia and the Cocktail Party. They just got a tough road
- 28:42to hope and I think that is going to that's going to give them some
- 28:45difficulty. I do think Sunbelt Billy's gonna be better. This team's significantly more
- 28:52experienced than last year. That team was young and didn't have a lot of
- 28:55experience. I do think they're gonna be significantly better. But can they get
- 29:00Bowl eligible? I think they're gonna have to earn that. That is that
- 29:03is who in two years of no bowl game, and all of a sudden,
- 29:07they're gonna be thinking man Dan Mullen. Getting us to the group of
- 29:11the UH to the six bowl games, not in the playoffs sure does look
- 29:15like a good deal. I don't think that Billy Napier may be on his
- 29:21last legs in Games one. We'll see, brother, but I'm gonna be
- 29:23playing me in a lot of Florida this year. I think this team is
- 29:26better than people expect. I really do. I'm interested to see their athleticism,
- 29:30but I think this team's gonna be better. I will not be surprised
- 29:33if we don't see some packages that involve the freshman quarterback in DJ Lagway for
- 29:37two reasons. Number one of the kid's dynamic on his legs. Big kid
- 29:41two hundred and twenty pounds, and he can motor. The second thing is
- 29:45if Billy wants to keep that alumni support behind him, it's not a bad
- 29:48idea to roll that freshman out there and get him some pt early so people
- 29:52know that he's got a plan moving forward. So we'll see Lord is going
- 29:56over that four and a half when total. I think so too. I
- 29:57think so too. Let's talk TALKO by Florida's bitter rival, the Georgia Bulldogs.
- 30:03Team within thirteen and one last year, didn't win the conference, didn't
- 30:06make the College Football Playoff. Still probably was the best team in the country,
- 30:10but we don't get to see that because they couldn't get the job done
- 30:12when it counted to it. They roll in here. Carson Beck's leading i
- 30:17think candidate for the Heisman Trophy. They return a shit ton of production off
- 30:21of the squad. Most of the offensive lineman comes back. They bring back
- 30:25all the wide receivers. They do lose mccakey. They do lose a Brock
- 30:29to the NFL. That's a big deal. I think offensively, this team
- 30:33is going to be really explosive. I think they're gonna put up some big
- 30:36numbers. They averaged over thirty four points a game last season. Where I've
- 30:38got a little bit of question on this team is on the defense. You
- 30:41know, the defense last year was not the Georgia defense that we saw all
- 30:45go to the NFL and play for the Philadelphia Eagles and beyond. Defensively,
- 30:49this team took a step back last year, and I think if this team
- 30:52is going to compete for the National Championship on the defensive side of the balls,
- 30:56where they're going to have to step up. Yeah. Agree more.
- 31:00Look, you obviously lose a couple of really really good players and mcconken Bowers,
- 31:06but delp is a really really good tight end slide in, really really
- 31:11good player. Are they gonna lose some productivity? Yes? I think they
- 31:14need to have right. Right Thomas be healthy for the whole season. Uh.
- 31:18He was Mississippi State's leading wide receiver a couple of years ago under Leach.
- 31:22Uh. He was banged up last year. Uh, so I think
- 31:23they need to stay healthy. Uh. The running back room is interesting.
- 31:27They bring in et N from Florida, bring him up. But they've got
- 31:33some really good players. Roderick Roberts Robinson is a good player for Branson.
- 31:37Robinson is a really good player. I mean, these guys were super highly
- 31:41recruited players coming out of high school. So I think you're gonna see I
- 31:45think you're gonna see that running game. I think be a little bit better
- 31:49this year, and I think that's gonna help just Bowers that much. I
- 31:55mean, I'm gonna help Carson back that much more. I think Georgia is
- 32:01going to be great again. I think Herby's just got it rolling. But
- 32:07I don't know. If I don't know, this is the first time I
- 32:10felt like they could lose a couple of games. Their schedules does do I
- 32:14think the playoffs one hundred percent, but I think they've got a chance to
- 32:19lose some games. I mean that Cleanson game. I love that Clemson line
- 32:22starting the first week. I think that game is going to be closer than
- 32:24people expect because I think Clemson's going to be pretty good. You know,
- 32:28they play at Alabama, they play at Texas, and they play at Ole
- 32:31Miss. Yeah. So I'm as much as I like Georgia, I don't
- 32:37want any of that ten and a half win total because I could see them
- 32:39going ten and two as well and be a great football team, maybe be
- 32:43able to win the Navy. I completely agree with you. I was kind
- 32:45of surprised because I've always felt the SEC when they've got a team that they
- 32:50think can win. It kind of coddles the schedule a little bit, and
- 32:52I don't know if adding O, You and Texas into the mix disrupted that
- 32:57because this was not the schedule I expected, or to get the fact that
- 33:00the three best teams that they play in conference on the road. I was
- 33:04really surprised about that. So I would lean under I would lean under ten
- 33:10and a half wins. But I do think this team still has a shot
- 33:13to win the national championship. Scotty Kentucky looking at them, Stoops flirted with
- 33:17going to a and m pulled it back and decided to stay at home in
- 33:21Kentucky, which was a great decision by him. I think this team has
- 33:23lived off of the offensive line production that they've got, kind of ground and
- 33:28pound, played some gritty defense, won some games they maybe shouldn't have,
- 33:31but they have improved. They got to that seven and six number again last
- 33:36season. This season, though, is very interesting to me. They bring
- 33:39in the quarterback transfer that came over from Georgia and brought Vandergriff. Everything I've
- 33:45heard about this kid has been good. I've heard he's pretty dynamic. They
- 33:47do bring back an offensive line that's got a lot of starts behind it,
- 33:51so they should have that. Last year offensive line play was not as strong
- 33:53as it could have been, and their wide receiving corps. To me,
- 33:57Barrion Brown day. If you haven't watched Barriyon Brown played, that guy is
- 34:00fucking awesome. He's special teams, kickoff return, punt return. If you
- 34:05watch him in the bowl game, you would think it's it's his show that
- 34:07he's got there. Dan Key and Jamari McLain are all fantastic. I think
- 34:12this Kentucky team can put some numbers up. Last year, I don't think
- 34:15Devin Learry was healthy and the offensive line wasn't great, and I think that's
- 34:19what brought them back. This is a surprise team to me. This is
- 34:21a team I think you're gonna have to look every single week at what their
- 34:23number is and figure out if there's an angle you can play in there.
- 34:28Yeah. I couldn't couldn't agree more. Look, stupe reminds me of the
- 34:32job that Mullen was doing Assissippi State. They were always undersold. People just
- 34:37kind of looked over him every year, and yet come out and they get
- 34:42it done. They're always Bowl eligible, They're always right in the middle of
- 34:45it. Generally win a game they probably shouldn't win, but you know they're
- 34:51always there. Games are closed. They're a competitive football team. I will
- 34:54say. One of the best names in college football though, along the defensive
- 34:59line for the Kentucky Walcats, Octavius Oxa nine. That's just that's just you
- 35:06gotta love it. I have got to go through and come up with an
- 35:09all named team for the Crazy Sheet this year. I think I may.
- 35:13I may take that on over the next couple of weeks. Do you think
- 35:16you find out plays if he's the eighth kid at his house or if where
- 35:20the October came from? Is all I want to know? I do?
- 35:23There are some good name I always love SEC signing Day because you read these
- 35:29names, it's like, wow, there is two commas to the top and
- 35:31this kid's first name. This is incredible, but it's there's a couple of
- 35:36hyphens in there. My still my favorite was the running back that at Old
- 35:39Miss that changed his name every year, Ben Jarvis green Ellis and he just
- 35:43kept extending it out longer and longer over the years that he played. Who
- 35:45was a transfer from Indiana. I know Scott next two teams I'm gonna give
- 35:50to you the LSU Tigers. Brian Kelly got this team. They're coming back
- 35:54after taking their Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, after losing those wide receivers to the
- 35:59NF and after putting out what was one of the worst defenses we've ever seen
- 36:04LSU put on the field. This year, you think they're gonna do things
- 36:07right? Are they gonna put Harold Perkins in the right position? Because last
- 36:10year I think playing him at that mike was a terrible idea. Kid could
- 36:15not get loose to find the ball. He wasn't explosive. Is Kelly gonna
- 36:20put this team at ten and three? They start the season off in Vegas,
- 36:22they're playing USC WHOA, what are we gonna get from? Go Tigers?
- 36:28You know what? I think this is a fascinating year. I mean,
- 36:30look, I think here that Fyers a good player. I think he's
- 36:34a really good quarterback too. There's no chance they're gonna put up the same
- 36:37numbers that they did last year because I don't think they're gonna have the wide
- 36:42receivers. Let's not forget the two first round wide receivers. I mean,
- 36:45and a Heisman winning quarterback who was electric by the way. I mean to
- 36:52watch that guy live. Man, if you saw him play live, he
- 36:55was a video game. He was lost, and as it turns out you
- 36:59listened to him, he's watching games at three times at fast forward speed on
- 37:07a virtual reality head set to help him. Last year, that guy was
- 37:12just at a different level. He played like it. He worked hard.
- 37:15Kudos for him for getting drafted where he did. But I don't think LSU's
- 37:20gonna be nearly as good on offense as they were. Are they gonna be
- 37:22good enough to get it done? Maybe? Because I do think the defense
- 37:27is gonna be better, But I mean, hell, don't you have a
- 37:29lot of question marks. They took one of the most explosive peers in the
- 37:31country as a true freshman and made him a non factor last year. Hell
- 37:36yeah, I got questions. Is this defense gonna take the next step?
- 37:38So I do I think they're better? Yes? Do I think the defense
- 37:43is gonna be better and able to hold them in games? Maybe so,
- 37:46But this team was scoring forty and losing. I don't think there'll be scoring
- 37:53forty every week this week this year. So yes, I've got questions.
- 37:58This is a big over under number for them as well, I personally like
- 38:02LSU under nine and a half wins because of this schedule again, where they're
- 38:08playing teams. You can't tell me this team can't lose at Florida at A
- 38:13and M. That's some tough games. They're at South Carolina again, games
- 38:16that if they're playing them in Baton Rouge, I think they win. They
- 38:20got a chance to lose a couple of those games. And then of course
- 38:22they get Old Miss at home, which will be a big game. They
- 38:23get Bama at home which will be a big game, and the end the
- 38:27year with Oklahoma at home, but USC mixed in there. I don't think
- 38:30they're gonna win that ball game to start the year. So that's just my
- 38:35personal opinion. Really like, I really like SC that first week, especially
- 38:40with the number that they're getting, But I will sell on nine and a
- 38:46half wins. Could the Tigers take that step forward? Sure? Could they
- 38:51be a playoff team? Absolutely that This does look like a nine and three
- 38:54football team to me. The Mississippi State Bullfrogs as we roll over to the
- 39:00the Magnolia State team was five and seven last year, one and seven in
- 39:02the SEC. Rebooting, the coaching staff they're bringing in Art Brill's son in
- 39:07law, who's been an offensive genius, or he's followed around Brill's and Kendall
- 39:10Browles throughout his career. Previously was in Oklahoma, bringing him in to do
- 39:15what I think a team like Mississippi State needs to do, which is having
- 39:20offense. It's gonna be more dynamic and not laying back on the defense and
- 39:22try to ground and pound. It was just too hard to build that roster
- 39:27to do that and reboot it in one year. Zach Barnett, first year
- 39:30coach, didn't make it. He gowned and now we got another first year
- 39:32head coach in Mississippi State. Is this team with basically an entirely new roster.
- 39:39If you go look at the two deep on this team, there are
- 39:43so many new faces and a lot of players that don't have a lot of
- 39:45snaps under their belt. I'm gonna lead under on this team. I am
- 39:50probably gonna be fading this team. I think they're gonna score, but I'm
- 39:53not sure this team's gonna Their schedule is rough. I'm not sure they're gonna
- 39:57be able to get it done. Oh, I think they're gonna be able
- 40:00to get it done. Now, I do think with that number jumping down
- 40:04to three and a half, I think they are I think they are an
- 40:07over at three and a half. I did not like it at four and
- 40:10a half because that Arizona State game on the road is a big is a
- 40:15big swing game from Missippi State. But they do play Eastern Kentucky, Toledo,
- 40:21Massachusetts, and Arkansas all at home. Every one of those games is
- 40:25winnable, so that gives them a chance that they win at Arizona State.
- 40:29This team got a chance to get the five wins. I don't I think
- 40:34that's gonna be tough because I don't think this team is gonna be very good.
- 40:37I do think they may score some points, and I think that's all
- 40:39Levy's gotta do. I think the defense is gonna be putrid. I just
- 40:45do not think it's gonna be I do not think it's gonna be anywhere near
- 40:49some of the defenses that you've seen from Missippi State or the defenses that you
- 40:52saw last year. But this team was a busmal on offense last night last
- 40:55year. I mean just absolutely atrocious. So could they win a game or
- 41:00two that they shouldn't because they score some points, maybe because this is just
- 41:05college football is turning into an offensive game. But no, I don't think
- 41:07they're going to be very good, but I do like them over three and
- 41:10a half, I think that number is getting too low. Who looking good
- 41:15there. Let's got to old Miss brother man, the hype wagon is parked
- 41:21right up against bought Hemingway Stadium. It as well as it should be.
- 41:25You've got Lane Kiffin, who's the best Twitter handle in the game. Let's
- 41:30say this rip Mighty Kiffin just so. He passed away a couple of weeks
- 41:35ago. Man, what a great football mind that guy was. Younger generation
- 41:39probably didn't understand some of the things he did for the game, but I
- 41:42was sad to see him go. Uh But this Old Miss team, I
- 41:45like what you've got losing here. You know, they lose quish on Judkins'
- 41:49kid transfers to Ohiowa State. They bring in two other running backs that both
- 41:52rush for close to one thousand yards. Are over from other teams that you've
- 41:55got there. You bring back Jackson dark in this offense deively, they're still
- 42:00putting some pieces together. JJ Pegeze feels like he has been on that D
- 42:04line since I was in junior high, and so I don't know what this
- 42:07team is that they're gonna be able to live up to the hype. They
- 42:10went eleven and two last season, but nobody's talking about Old Miss like they're
- 42:15talking about this. This is everybody's hot take. Ole Miss to do this,
- 42:19Ole Miss to do this, And I just feel like so many times
- 42:22these hot take teams in July and August just can't handle the pressure as they
- 42:27move forward. I don't know what we're gonna see here. I think this
- 42:30Old Miss team has a chance to be really good. I bet the yes
- 42:34on them to make the College Football Playoff? But what are you gonna?
- 42:37I mean, this is you, bro, all you on Mississippi. Look,
- 42:40I think Rebels are gonna be good. I think the hype wagons legit.
- 42:45I think their fan base has gone all in on this season with nil
- 42:49and all of those things. The Judkins deal is a big is a big
- 42:52deal. But they did a nice job in the portal and they've already got
- 42:57Bentley who and I like Bentley. I don't think he's in there redown back,
- 43:00so I think they did need to go get someone. Wish I Amos
- 43:04could be that guy, because he might be the guy who can pound it.
- 43:07Because this offense is predicated on running the football. Jackson Dard is not
- 43:10a stand This offense is not a stand back there and make your reads through
- 43:15progressions offense. That's not what it's about. It's keep run, read,
- 43:20throw, that's it. Boom, it's a I mean, it is all
- 43:22based on the run game. If they can't run the football, that's the
- 43:27only way Ole miss doesn't get into the playoffs. Now, I think this
- 43:30offensive line is going to be significantly, significantly better than it was last year.
- 43:37I mean, they have gone out and done a really good job in
- 43:39the portal. I won't bore you with all the transfers, but at the
- 43:43end of the day, out and improved that team significantly upfront as much as
- 43:51probably anybody in the country. And that is where they haven't been able to
- 43:57beat the Georgia's Alabama all of that because they haven't been able to run the
- 44:01football due to the line of scrimmage against those teams. Then flip, they
- 44:06haven't been dominant up front on the defensive line and due they go get Walter
- 44:12Nolan from Texas A and m You're right, Pegeeze has been there forever.
- 44:15It's a transfer from Auburn, but some Mississippi kid and then they go out
- 44:17sign the two best ends in the portal. Yeah. I mean this team
- 44:23has done a lot of good things. If you're not fired up on old
- 44:28Miss, well, then you hadn't been watching them offensively the last couple of
- 44:31years. I ain't this team's gonna be really good. I think they got
- 44:36a chance to win the league. I mean, like the whole kitten kaboodle,
- 44:39which if you're good enough to win the SEC, your ass is good
- 44:44enough to win at all. Yeah, I ain't gonna miss as in that
- 44:46conversation. It pains me to say that, but that's fact. I mean
- 44:52you're not You're not analyzing football and looking at rosters in games if you don't
- 44:55think this is gonna be a really really good football team. Get this schedule,
- 45:00and dude, it sets up freemium for the Revels at Wake Forest,
- 45:06at South Carolina, at LSU, at Arkansas, and at Florida. Boy,
- 45:10if you're gonna play road games, that's about as good as you could
- 45:13hope at LSU games, A barn Burner doesn't matter where they play. Every
- 45:16year was last year gonna be again this year. That's just a big game
- 45:21for both these teams, going all the way back to the sixties as that
- 45:23been a big football game. But buddy, you look at home. They
- 45:28get Oklahoma at home, Kentucky at home, I mean Mississippi State at home,
- 45:32Georgia at home. They can win some of those ball games. I
- 45:37think. I don't think Oklahoma can beat them in Oxford. Oxford's pretty tough
- 45:42place to play when they're good, and they're gonna be good, those people
- 45:45are gonna be zoosed up. I think this is a really, really good
- 45:49football team. I think. Do I think that they're gonna go over the
- 45:53nine and a half wins over Well, yes, I do. I think
- 45:55it's a disappointment even though the question mark surrounds the running game. At the
- 46:02bottom line is I think they brought in enough people to do it. They
- 46:06also brought in a really good transfer from Miami. The LSU running back probably
- 46:10not gonna help him this year. And Diggs because you know, I think
- 46:14he tore the A c L in the bowl game, so I'm not positive
- 46:16he's gonna be able to help him. But I think Parish, Amoson and
- 46:21Bentley are gonna be able to get it done for them on that running behind
- 46:24what I think is going to be a really really good offensive line. So
- 46:28I think the Rebels are legit. I'm gonna give you a name to pay
- 46:30attention to play for a good friend of mine and junior college. Dion Smith
- 46:34started out at LSU originally is a is a juco wide receiver coming in candidly
- 46:39the kids kind of a hot mess, but man is he talented. That
- 46:44kid can absolutely fly, I mean absolutely fly. And you combine him with
- 46:50what they already have, and Antoine Wells, Trey Harris and Caden priestcor on
- 46:54at tight ends. That guy gets open. They do a really really good
- 46:59job of him. Found in the football I ain't. I think Old Miss
- 47:01is legit. I think they're legit. And and Twine Wells being a junior
- 47:07is comical. I watched that kid play for jmu uh the year after they
- 47:13when they played for the Natty. And he's transferred from South Carolina and now
- 47:15here he is an old Miss. He can play. I know he's not
- 47:19a name Melonial paid attention to, but this kid can play. Trust me.
- 47:22I mean they've got there's a lot of NFL talent on this old miss
- 47:25roster. If this team makes up I didn't even mentioned Jordan Watkins ye as
- 47:30a player. I mean that's you know they've got it, bros. Would
- 47:34be fun to watch them practice for sure. Uh looking around, we got
- 47:37Miszoo, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee. I'm not going to talk about
- 47:42Vandy because damn they're gonna be awful. A and M's left. Missoo's an
- 47:45exciting team. A lot of people are high on this team because they bring
- 47:47back Luther Burden, you bring back Brady Cook on the offense. This team
- 47:51went eleven and two last year. Missoo's funny to be man, It's a
- 47:53team in the SEC that has been slept on since they joined the conference,
- 47:58even though the first three years there in the conference, I think they played
- 48:00for the conference championship. But no one really pays attention to what goes on
- 48:04around here. Eli Drinkowitz, we've laughed a little bit about some of these
- 48:07that he's done a fucking great job with this program and this really this Missoo
- 48:12team right their schedule sets up to where I mean, I'm looking into October
- 48:16before they play Texas. A and M. I mean they they could easily
- 48:20be eight and one and looking at the back end of their schedule and you're
- 48:24starting to scratch your head to say, does this team have a chance to
- 48:27get into the playoffs? Yep, to couldn't agree more. I think this
- 48:30is a team that's got a chance to make a playoff. That that really
- 48:35is the deal. Again, a lot of it where they play teams.
- 48:37Getting Oklahoma at home is a big deal. Getting Auburn at home, to
- 48:42me, he's a big deal. At A and M. They're at Bama,
- 48:45at South Carolina and a Mississippi State, So that will you know,
- 48:49that's that's the road games. I would call that manageable. Certainly take out
- 48:52Alabama. You can lose that TUSC so that doesn't hurt your ability. That's
- 48:57like, you're not gonna drop in the rankings very far if that's where you
- 49:00if that's a loss. So I think they have a shot to really kind
- 49:05of spring in there at the end of the season to jump up there.
- 49:08This offense gonna be really good. They've got a gazillion transfers on defense after
- 49:13losing a lot of guys to the NFL, So it all depends on what
- 49:17this team does. On the defensive side. I think they're gonna be very
- 49:22very good on offense. If you're a Sooner fan, enjoy September because after
- 49:25that, this schedule gets really difficult for y'all. Open up with Temple,
- 49:30Houston, and Twulane all at home, and then Tennessee makes their way up
- 49:34there to play all in Norman. This OU roster. As much as I
- 49:37like Venables, this team went ten and three last year. I said this
- 49:40to so many people when they were asking about Texas and Oklahoma coming into the
- 49:45Big Twelve, and I'm like, look, bro, I said, both
- 49:47of these teams are ready to financially to play the game. OU's roster is
- 49:52currently not built to play in the SEC. I'm a mad downgrade on this
- 49:57team. I think offensively, I like Jack and Arnold a lot. The
- 50:00quarterback that played in the Bowl is going to be coming in in this one.
- 50:04He's only a sophomore, but there's not a lot around him. They
- 50:07rebooted the entire offensive line. They had a couple of guys get drafted.
- 50:10They got an undrafted free agent Siey. From that standpoint, for Rooks,
- 50:15the only skill position player that they bring back that's got a lot of snap.
- 50:19Well they bring back schneck or Sawt shuck, it's got a lot of
- 50:22snaps underneath him. So I don't know there. Defensively, they improved last
- 50:27year, but they couldn't have been any worse than they were on venables first
- 50:29year. And so the only thing they get the middle of that defensive line's
- 50:31coming back. That could be okay, But I'm mad downgrade on this team.
- 50:36I think this team is going to struggle weekend week out with this SEC
- 50:39scheduling. As good as they were at Texas home scheduling, they were that
- 50:44bad the Oklahoma on the schedule, I mean at Auburn, at old Is,
- 50:49at Missouri and at LSU. Well, let's just go ahead and play
- 50:52Alabama in Texas and Tennessee while we're in you know, while we're at it.
- 50:57That that's not good. It's a tough schedule, you much like I
- 51:00think MISSOOPI State drawls a brutal schedule as well. They play a lot of
- 51:04teams that are at the very top, and I just don't think Oklahoma's ready
- 51:07to jump into that quite yet. So that game against Texas is a gigantic
- 51:15game for them, and so is that Tennessee game at home. They have
- 51:19got to figure out how to win that. I think that's just the bottom
- 51:22line. Two things about Tennessee that you're gonna want to know. This year,
- 51:24the SEC is ruled that the school that will be called UT will be
- 51:29the University of Tennessee, not Texas. Texas will be denoted as tex on
- 51:34schedules moving forward. Tennessee last year nine and four, but you could almost
- 51:38say it was a letdown because they went four and four in SEC play after
- 51:43that year previous. This year, they bring in one of the highest rated
- 51:45quarterbacks that we've seen this team ever had. Can can you say his last
- 51:50name? Nikos. I'm gonna have to hear somebody say it kids exciting,
- 51:53He's gonna be fun something like that. Amalama Leva will figure it out.
- 52:00But anyway, this team brings in you know, high flying quarterback. Their
- 52:04offense is going to push the ball downfield, Their schedules manageable. Week two,
- 52:07when they play n C State, I think that's going to be a
- 52:09fascinating game because I think n C State's going to be better than a lot
- 52:13of people think they are. But I have question marks around this Tennessee team.
- 52:16I'm looking at this Tennessee team. If this team can get to an
- 52:20eight and four mark this year, I would consider this to be a really
- 52:22good team. But I don't know what are your thoughts here. You know
- 52:27that I think the one thing that's going to help them is scheduling. They
- 52:30get most of their good teams at I mean to get Florida Bama at home.
- 52:35They're at Oklahoma, at Arkansas, at Georgia, and at Vanderbilt.
- 52:38They clearly ought to win two of those on the road, So I mean
- 52:40that starts propelling you to a pretty good record. N C State game is
- 52:46going to be a better game than people think. Grace McCall coming in there
- 52:49for n C State, they got a chance to lose that ball game.
- 52:53So I like Tennessee. I think they're going to have a good season,
- 52:58But I like you, I do not. I don't think this is a
- 53:00playoff type team. I think they're gonna be a good team, not a
- 53:04great team. I think they're a year away with their quarterback play, most
- 53:07likely Texas. This is a team went twelve and two last year. Quinn
- 53:14Yewrs is back. You still got Manning. I'll tell you what we've talked
- 53:16about this for twelve thirteen. I don't even how long we've been doing this
- 53:20podcast now thirteen years. I think we invented podcasting. We just the really
- 53:22ones that didn't make any money off of it. But yeah, anyway,
- 53:29this this roster's good. It's really good. I think this team's got a
- 53:32chance to compete. I like the fact that yours is back again. The
- 53:37fact that they've got arch Manning and he's still there, and that you haven't
- 53:40seen the mad defects off of this shows me one thing, and I started
- 53:45seeing it last year. Sark has fixed the culture issue at Texas. This
- 53:51team played more physical. I think this team was more dynamic offensively when they
- 53:55could stay healthy going into this season. Their schedule it's rough, and I
- 54:01think they could do well, but it's Colorado State Michigan. You chiss a
- 54:07ulm O could great, But then you get into what they've got here.
- 54:09They can get through this schedule. But man, I really think this team
- 54:14has a chance to play for the college football National Championship. I couldn't agree
- 54:17more. This team is going to make the playoff again because of scheduling.
- 54:21If they win at Michigan, which personally, I think they will if they
- 54:25win at Michigan. You're talking October twelfth, before they really play anybody.
- 54:30I mean that game host in Mississippi State September twenty eighth. Then they get
- 54:35a week off before they play Oklahoma on the neutral field and then Georgia at
- 54:38home, and then they're at Bandy Boom another off week again before they play
- 54:43their final four. This team is going to win ten or eleven games,
- 54:47and could they go undefeated one hundred percent? Yeah, I agree. Last
- 54:52one, we'll touch on Scottie the Ages. Mike Elko coming in new coach
- 54:57reboot after the Jimbo disaster, wrote I'm a check for seventy five million dollars
- 55:01to go away. And he's so popular he hadn't even been picked up to
- 55:05play on TV yet Fucking Houston Nutt gets to be on TV, and Jimbo's
- 55:08so polarizing he didn' can't get a job on TV. What a weirdo.
- 55:14You bring back the quarterback and Connor Wegman, You bring back the wide receiving
- 55:16corps. A lot of new players on that offensive line. Defensively, they've
- 55:20rebooted. They hit the portal pretty well and brought in some great talent and
- 55:23what they were gonna need in that spot. I like this A and M
- 55:27team over under win totals at eight and a half. That's kind of where
- 55:30I have them. And man, if they lose to Texas in College Station
- 55:35on November thirtieth, the head explosion that's gonna go on at A and M
- 55:39is going to be huge and I did make it. I mean, but
- 55:44maroon BYU needs to realize they're not that relevant outside of College Station just yet.
- 55:50But we'll see what's gonna happen. Yeah again, I am if if
- 55:53they lose to Notre Dame Early Buddy, that that goes sideways. I look
- 56:00at Elko and I think he is a rock solid guy. I think he
- 56:04is also a very very good fit at Texas A and M, where I
- 56:07think Jimbo was just completely an awkward fit. I mean, just of course
- 56:12that guy would be awkward anywhere. I think he might be awkward at his
- 56:15own house, but the uh, but that guy's just a different cat.
- 56:20I think Elko is a good guy. I think it's also what they needed
- 56:22from a stability and familiar familiarity with the program standpoint. I think he comes
- 56:29in and will do a good job just simply because he's a solid dude,
- 56:32and clearly after the job he did at Duke, he's an underrated football coach
- 56:37too. He's been a great coordinator on the defensive side for a long time.
- 56:42But that head coaching job he did at Duke was very, very good
- 56:45and a very tough situation. But I don't think the Aggies are there.
- 56:49I think they're a seven and five, eight and four, mate. Can
- 56:51they get to nine and three? Probably? Are they talented enough to do
- 56:54that? Sure, but I think a lot of things have got to go
- 56:58their way. I don't hate their schedule, although Texas Notre Dame, you
- 57:05know, those are missoo LSU. Those are games they can lose. But
- 57:08I like where they're playing a lot of these teams. I mean, when
- 57:13you got at Florida, at Mississippi State, at South Carolina, at Auburn,
- 57:15I would tell you this roster is better than all four of those.
- 57:19Do I think they win all four of those? But do I think the
- 57:23roster is better? Sure, there's some other things they play now. They
- 57:28also play a couple of really good teams at home that they could lose.
- 57:30But I do think this is gonna be a good football team. Could they
- 57:34get a break or two and Wegman turned into the player that I think he's
- 57:37got the potential to be and sneak into the playoffs. Yes, I do.
- 57:42I think this or Auburn is that one of these two teams is going
- 57:46to be that team that outperforms what people think. That's my personal opinion.
- 57:51Yeah, I agree with you, Scottie wrapping it up, Bro, we've
- 57:53been doing this for a while. People can pound through this podcast. I
- 57:55hope they've got it on one and a half play time because we've been talking
- 57:59so much. What plays, if any, do you have in the sec
- 58:04to get the season started well? Over unders? I like Florida going over
- 58:08four and a half. I like Missisippi State to go over three and a
- 58:12half. If you have to get it at four and a half, that's
- 58:14the number stop. That fourth fifth win is where you got to get to
- 58:17get Arizona State or Arkansas. And I don't know. I don't know if
- 58:22they're gonna be good enough to get any one of those done. So I
- 58:24like both of those. I like Old miss over nine and a half in
- 58:28the league. I like LSU actually under nine and a half. Starting early
- 58:32on gambling, I like Bama minus nine at Whiskey. We'll talk about that
- 58:37week one. I like Texas at Michigan land three and a half. I
- 58:42like USC plus four against LSU early, and I like Clemson plus thirteen against
- 58:47Georgia. So as we look ahead to some gambling lines for the Southeastern Conference,
- 58:52I think USC is plus six. Are they what I say? Plus
- 58:57four plus six? They are plus? I like that one. I've actually
- 58:59been USC at plus six and a half. I also took the over at
- 59:02sixty two in that game in Week one. That's the standalone Sunday night game
- 59:07that they'll be playing in Las Vegas. I haven't played anything else here.
- 59:12I have played the A and M win total over so many times that I
- 59:15can't do it again. I'm just gonna sit and watch. So that's all
- 59:19I've got loaded up. We'll put those plays in the notes, we'll get
- 59:22things ready, we'll crank out some big ten comment keep these things rolling,
- 59:27Folks, share us on Twitter, Hit us up. It's good to be
- 59:30back. College football is less than five weeks away. You cannot get any
- 59:34more excited than we are. Get it done. Let's have some fun and
- 59:37let's put a few extra ducats in our pocket. Is we're gonna make some
- 59:39more money again this season, Looking forward to it by
