- 1:06wife, commit myself to His Word and never be LED astray.

- 1:39How you doing? I'm.
- 1:40Blessed my brother. I'm good, man.
- 1:41I'm good. Hey Did.
- 1:42You see the game last night. I was your game.
- 1:44But did you see the shot? I lost money from that.
- 1:47Oh man, that shot was. Old man but it.
- 1:49Was good, yeah. What's the name you really want
- 1:59to know? I do.
- 2:04Exhaustion, muscle spasm, Asthmatic issues, unexpected
- 2:09sickle cell trait Titan. Are.
- 2:11You serious? When I was young I found out I
- 2:14had sickle cell trait. My mom's told me but I didn't
- 2:17have no knowledge of it. But when I got older I had a
- 2:19child and the doctor told me my daughter had sickle cell trait.
- 2:22Do you know the fact that both parents have sickle cell trait?
- 2:24There's a 50% chance the child may have the trait and 25%
- 2:28chance the child may have the disease.
- 2:30And that's what's the count, Do you know that 2.5 million people
- 2:33in the United States have sickle cell trait?
- 2:35300 million people globally. I didn't find out I had sickle
- 2:37cell trait until I was in the Army 10 years.
- 2:40Next thing you know, I had a sickle cell trait, exertion
- 2:42site, April cell. I thought that was a.
- 2:44Black gene or something? Nah man, the black community is
- 2:47number 21 out of 36,000 babies are being born with sickle cell
- 2:51disease. It could be Caucasian,
- 2:52Mediterranean, European. You got to read a bloodline.
- 2:55Man. There is an inherited gene in
- 2:59our community that has been forgotten.
- 3:02The name is Sickle Cell trait. WDCONSCT, also known as What's
- 3:07the Count, is out to bring awareness, education and
- 3:10prevention to people all over the globe.
- 3:12Want more information? Call us now at 323-215-5384 or
- 3:19visit WWW dot WDCON sct.org. Miss, we're talking about Mr.
- 7:01Red, White and Blue. Ladies and gentlemen, how you
- 7:05doing this evening? This is the Frondozy Show on the
- 7:08Military Broadcast Radio Network.
- 7:10I want to thank you for tuning, listening in.
- 7:12As always, we have a very important spectacular show for
- 7:16you here. Thanks for catching the episode.
- 7:20If you want, you can catch me on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM on KCA radio
- 7:25106.5 FM at 10:50 AM over there today.
- 7:29We just going to get right in it.
- 7:30I got some guests here. I got on my Orcas ABA Basketball
- 7:35Jersey. My, my, my personal one.
- 7:37I'm not a player, but I've been blessed to be a owner of a
- 7:41American Basketball Association team and I got two people here.
- 7:471 is the owner for, for I forgot how many 20 plus years I would
- 7:52imagine, I think. And then one gentleman I met
- 7:54actually before I purchased the Ventura County Orcas, I actually
- 7:58called him because he was a guest on my sports show a few
- 8:01years ago. And so I picked his brain to
- 8:04find out, you know, what happened with his team.
- 8:07And so he's here as well. So we're going to get right into
- 8:10it because today we're going to talk basketball right from from
- 8:14what I'm up to in the community today.
- 8:16But also I'm going to go back in time and talk a little bit about
- 8:19my basketball identity and even why I'm even doing what I'm
- 8:23doing around this ABA platform, right?
- 8:26So we're going to get into that a little bit on the second-half,
- 8:28But let me bring up my guests. They they talked, they went off
- 8:33the camera. So you seen the PSA sickle cell
- 8:36trade awareness. So if you have any questions,
- 8:40you can make sure you go there and I can offer, you know, some
- 8:45insights. If you know someone that has
- 8:48sickle cell trade and they need this information.
- 8:51Veterans, you know, athletes, this is, this is a global
- 8:58conversation, is not just African Americans, although we
- 9:02are #1 because sickle cell trait combats polaria and the regions
- 9:07of where my ancestors came from, which is a Nigeria Africa area.
- 9:11So yeah, anybody can have this in heritage gene.
- 9:15Hispanics are #2 but you can be Caucasian, Mediterranean, Asian,
- 9:19Saudi Arabian. Stickle cell trade does not
- 9:23exclude anyone because it's not a it's not a skin color.
- 9:26It is a blood condition right, So make sure you go to that
- 9:31website if you have any questions about the sickle cell
- 9:33trade. I am a speaker travel around the
- 9:36city bringing awareness to that inherit to Jean and also rather
- 9:39milosis and we'll get in touch with some of that discussion as
- 9:42well. All right, so I see Mr. Gerald
- 9:44here is on camera. Let me see what's happening,
- 9:48Sir. How you doing?
- 9:54Oh, I can't hear you. Is it me?
- 9:58I can't hear you, my guy. Is it me?
- 10:00Where's my audio at? I can't hear you.
- 10:05All right, we're going to make sure we get that now.
- 10:09I can't hear. Let's see.
- 10:13Is it me? Are you talking?
- 10:16Try again. No, I can't hear you.
- 10:23I can't hear you. Let's see.
- 10:25We're going to drop him down in a minute.
- 10:31I'm over here plugging in my headphones because I I thought
- 10:33it was me like BBD, but yeah. So I'm going to get these
- 10:37gentlemen situated here. We're going to play a quick PSA.
- 10:41I'm going to check the sound quality because we are live on
- 10:44Roku TV as well. So for those of you who are
- 10:46listening and or watching, we are live.
- 10:50Let me see if he's straight. How about now?
- 10:52There you go. I heard something.
- 10:57There you go. I hear you clicking.
- 11:01Are you clicking something? Yeah.
- 11:03Can you hear me now? I can hear you.
- 11:05Yeah. Your camera.
- 11:07I can hear you. Yeah.
- 11:10Good, good. How you doing?
- 11:12It was just a matter of putting on the right mic.
- 11:15I'm good, feeling groovy like a 10 cent movie.
- 11:20Then thank you for taking time out today to, to be a part of
- 11:24this conversation with me, man. I've, I've, I've again, I've, as
- 11:28I opened up the show meeting you a few years ago on my other
- 11:31sports show and then have an opportunity to talk to you after
- 11:35you had had an ABA basketball team yourself and went through
- 11:40that, that, that experience. So I was like, who can I call to
- 11:42get some? Cause what I learned was before
- 11:44you make a, a decision for, make sure you talk to some people
- 11:48who's already been down that road so you can get some
- 11:51insights on how they handled that.
- 11:52So you was you was my, my, my, my, my, my test to that process.
- 11:58And man, you, you, you came through for me.
- 12:00So I thank you for that. Appreciate it.
- 12:02Appreciate it, but I, I feel, I feel like a proud Papa because
- 12:08you've definitely taken it to a whole nother level.
- 12:10Hey, hey, look, they're the jersey right there we got.
- 12:13Multiple teams. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly that.
- 12:16I'm going to talk about that later as part of my identity
- 12:19crisis and how I got end up with from one to three teams.
- 12:22But do me a favor and introduce yourself to the listeners here.
- 12:26Sure, sure. First of all, thank you so much
- 12:29for having me. It's a plum.
- 12:31Please and pleasure to be here with you guys.
- 12:34My name is Gerald E Jackson. I happen to be the Chairman and
- 12:37President ofregal.tv and that's our global television
- 12:43broadcasting network. We've had that since about 2015.
- 12:48My basic background is that I am a business management consultant
- 12:52and I've had my own firm, GE Jackson and Associates for where
- 12:55I'm at about 40 years now since 1986.
- 12:59So that is kind of my bread and butter, what we do.
- 13:02But again, I've added a few pieces to that, the digital
- 13:06media work that we do. And then here lately I added
- 13:11just another piece of that, which is a project that we call
- 13:17St. Pro Basketball.
- 13:18And that is something that's designed to be a unique entity
- 13:23unto itself. It's a little different in how
- 13:25we roll out the game of basketball in that we we took a
- 13:29look at why people watch the game basketball and why some
- 13:34people kind of stopped watching the game of basketball and the
- 13:38feedback we got was it a lot of people were saying the game is
- 13:40just too long. It's really not enough
- 13:42excitement. Some people said, I don't even
- 13:44watch the first half of an NBA game.
- 13:45I just check in at the second-half or I might watch
- 13:50ESPN and see the highlights. So a buddy of mine by the name
- 13:54of Anthony Bingham, he's the other Co founder Super
- 13:59Basketball ball and myself as a Co founder, we yeah, take a look
- 14:10at we spent the game up a little bit, took a post that we did
- 14:13when we walked in the gym, you know, years ago.
- 14:15I think for the most part it's still I got today.
- 14:17You go to work out, you pick five players and you go first to
- 14:2011:50, go to play that game game and and go, you know, first to
- 14:2611 by ones. So we struck tournaments in the
- 14:29same way. They're 210 minute halves and
- 14:32second-half at the first ball stop pitch under the four minute
- 14:37mark, we implement what's known as an Elam ending, which is
- 14:42whichever team is winning at that point, we add eight points
- 14:52to that the winning the leading team score.
- 14:55So for example, if the in the first box we add eight points to
- 14:5950 which becomes 58 and when the ball gets put back in play the
- 15:04first team. I think, I think your computer
- 15:17is frozen, my guy. Let me see if we can get this
- 15:19situated real quick. This is the front doors that
- 15:21show on the military broadcast radio network.
- 15:23This is what happens when you stream in live, ladies and
- 15:25gentlemen, anything is possible. You have to be ready to handle
- 15:29your business when you are live streamer.
- 15:32So unfortunately we will figure out his signal and we're going
- 15:37to play APSA and come back and let him get that situated.
- 15:40This is the front doors that show on the military Broadcast
- 15:42radio Network. That's right, MB radio dot US
- 15:45shallows out. What's the count?
- 15:47Do you remember studying sickle cell in biology class?
- 15:50What's the count on? Sickle cell Trait Prevention is
- 15:52here to bring you awareness, education and prevention
- 15:55conversations around the risk factors of this inherited gene.

- 18:43I got a echo. OK, let me see.
- 18:49Got some headphones? Headphones.
- 18:51Yeah. So I was going to say maybe
- 18:52these headphones, OK. Cool, cool.
- 18:54Let me see where Gerald is at. Gerald, how you doing?
- 19:01Gerald's still not there. Frozen.
- 19:05Oh, there you go. I'm good, I'm good.

- 19:11OK. We're going to get out.
- 19:15Back on the deck. I got you out.
- 19:18I can hear you. I can hear you.
- 19:20No connected on these headphones.
- 19:24Are you still connecting? All right.
- 19:31Again, this is what happens when you are live, ladies and
- 19:36gentlemen. We're going to get it together.
- 19:41Gerald, are you frozen? Can.
- 19:43You hear me now? No, it's.
- 19:49All right, how about how Now I don't know why.
- 19:53Are you good? Can you hear me?
- 19:54Yeah, I can hear you my. Echo.
- 19:56No, the echo's gone. My voice is gone.
- 20:00OK. All right, Gerald, are you?
- 20:01Are you frozen? Gerald, can you hear us?
- 20:05No. Gerald is still frozen.
- 20:06Let me drop down. Gerald.
- 20:07Let me go. There you go.
- 20:10Gerald. Are you there?
- 20:13Yeah. He's frozen too.
- 20:15All right, man, do me a favor. We're not strangers, man.
- 20:17Do me a favor. Introduce yourself.
- 20:20Let them give them some background of the ABA from your
- 20:22perspective of it, man, and we'll work on getting Gerald on
- 20:26deck. So my name is Al Smith.
- 20:30I am the founder and owner operator of Nova Star
- 20:36Basketball, which has rebranded to Nova Stars of Southern
- 20:40California. I am also the regional chairman
- 20:45for the West Region of the ABA American Basketball Association.
- 20:51I've been a team owner since 2020.
- 20:55I started the Nova Stars in 2004, so that's what, 22 years
- 21:02now and just owning the team. I started coaching in the ABA
- 21:07around 2007 and I became A-Team owner in 2012.
- 21:18So that's a little bit of history of me and my A/B AI
- 21:24guess intro, not the journey, but just the intro how it came
- 21:30about, right? Started the team though from a
- 21:38movie set from the Coach Carter movie set, right?
- 21:44My friend Antoine was filming Coach Carter at the time.
- 21:47We put the team together and he told me that they had a whole
- 21:50crew on set of D1 basketball players that were auditioning
- 21:57for the movie and they were actually running hills in
- 22:00Northridge and having practices running suicides.
- 22:03He said it was legit practice. It wasn't Fugazi just for the
- 22:06movie that these guys could actually play.
- 22:09So we decided to put a tryout together and, and that's how the
- 22:13Nova stars came about. So that's a little bit of
- 22:18background on me. My, my, my career path has been
- 22:22mortgage and real estate. You know, I, I got my license in
- 22:28real estate in 1998. So, and I've been in the
- 22:34mortgage business up until maybe about 3-4 years ago and just
- 22:39decided to take a break from that for personal reasons and,
- 22:43and such. So that's that's a little bit
- 22:46about my background up until now.
- 22:50You know, we got Gerald on the other line here.
- 22:52You know, what do you want to say about his approach to you
- 22:56for the Pro Street Bar? What was that?
- 22:58What was that conversation about?
- 23:00What was that like for you? Gerald approached me with this,
- 23:06with this initiative, and we were just brainstorming because
- 23:09I had a similar initiative that I'm working.
- 23:12It was a little bit different. So we just decided to collab a
- 23:16little bit because we're in the offseason right now.
- 23:18We don't have anything going. Felt it would be a good
- 23:21opportunity to get some exposure for a few of our teams that have
- 23:25been kind of lying around stagnant without doing anything,
- 23:28no action. But I talked to the team owners
- 23:32on a regular basis, so I know that they're moving around in
- 23:36the offseason, they're active, they got players at their
- 23:39fingertips that are available. So I just helped him put a
- 23:44couple of pieces together so that we can do a street ball, a
- 23:49Pro Street ball event to showcase a few professional
- 23:55basketball players that are not getting the same notoriety and
- 24:00exposure as a lot of the other content creators and pro
- 24:04players. But they're still good
- 24:06basketball players that can produce, that can perform, that
- 24:10probably can be scouted as well. They're in different circles and
- 24:16on different platforms and they don't get the same exposure as
- 24:20those other guys that we all see on a regular basis because those
- 24:24guys have a little bit more of an end on how to get their brand
- 24:28out, how to get their faces in front of fans and things like
- 24:32that. So this was something that we
- 24:35both were talking about, and then we're doing it for the guys
- 24:38that don't get that type of exposure and don't get that type
- 24:41of opportunity. You know, so when you first hear
- 24:45about it, you might look at it and say, well, you know, that's
- 24:47not much, it's not a lot there, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:50But you don't know me. You don't know Gerald, and you
- 24:55don't know who we know and the type of people that will, you
- 25:00know, most likely come through and bless this platform.
- 25:03You know, when you're looking back at just the people that
- 25:07I've been in contact with throughout my basketball career,
- 25:11you know, I had guys that I started with before they became
- 25:16famous, you know, Larry Williams, who everybody knows
- 25:21now as Bone Collector, you know, I didn't know him, his bone
- 25:24collected. When he came to me, he was
- 25:26introduced to me as Speedy because that was his nickname
- 25:30around the town around here. He hadn't gotten the name Bone
- 25:33Collector yet, you know, So guys like that, guys that everybody
- 25:39knows, Sick witty. Sick Witty was one of the first
- 25:41guys that I met in the basketball community in Southern
- 25:44California back in 96 or 7 or something like that.
- 25:51So, you know, there's connections to people that have
- 25:54played on those platforms, whether it's been through
- 25:57content creation or whether it's actually been on a professional
- 26:01platform, right? You know, there's other guys
- 26:04that have played for me that have played for NBA teams like
- 26:08Doug Thomas. You know, right now he's
- 26:11coaching big men over in Japan or China.
- 26:15One of them, you know, he's just got that gig and this is 25
- 26:20years later and he's still going at it.
- 26:23So you've got a lot of people that are going to be showcased
- 26:26on this platform just to tell us.
- 26:28We know who I know who Gerald knows.
- 26:32Those are the things that are more important, that brings the
- 26:35validity, that brings the excitement that the things that
- 26:41people want to see on a basketball court together, right
- 26:45When you look around the basketball community right now
- 26:48locally here in Southern California, you've got, you
- 26:51know, the Drew League is active right now, it's summertime.
- 26:55You've got Mecca active right now.
- 26:57They've got a cash prize on their league.
- 26:59You've got VBL active right now. Venice Beach, you know,
- 27:03summertime. Everybody likes going and
- 27:05playing in Beach, so there's a lot of basketball, you know,
- 27:08going on and there's a lot of great players that are in on
- 27:13these platforms being showcased. So, you know, we have a a lane
- 27:19as well that we're trying to showcase and we're trying to
- 27:22bring to the public. And and that's what Pro Street
- 27:25ball is about, you know, the same thing.
- 27:28We've got the same relationships as all those guys that you see
- 27:31at True League and C at Mecca and C at VBL.
- 27:35Those are the guys that we know. They play for us, They play for
- 27:39me most. Almost half the league in the
- 27:41Drew League play for me, OK? I can look around on every
- 27:46basketball team and find one player on that team that have
- 27:49had a uniform on that I own before, OK?
- 27:53So that's how deep our roots are in basketball around Southern
- 27:57California. That's how much familiarization
- 28:01that we have with the top players that are available at
- 28:04this time of year, right? So here's the sweet spot to all
- 28:08this, right? Mecca, Drew League, VBL, You see
- 28:15them on TV. Nope.
- 28:18Over here? Nope.
- 28:20So we got a little bit more of an edge because we have
- 28:24television that we can bring you these guys just like you see the
- 28:28other guys on television that are well known and highly
- 28:32marketed and you hear their names everywhere you go, right?
- 28:36So that's the thing that we have with Pro Street Ball that the
- 28:41other guys don't have with their summer league platforms.
- 28:45They're great platforms, lot of high level players.
- 28:49The gyms are semi, you know, packed, but they have consistent
- 28:53fan bases and traffic throughout the day at those facilities,
- 28:56right, But they only they only bring traffic for the the people
- 29:05that have the bigger names right, that want to be seen.
- 29:10So it's a matter of making time to show up, right?
- 29:14Scheduling your day to go and support these guys to go show
- 29:18up. But with River Eagle TV, you can
- 29:22have access at these guys at your fingertip, OK?
- 29:26So it's not like like making plans and things like that to
- 29:30schedule your day or trying to carve out and cancel on people
- 29:35because you can't be there because you want to come
- 29:37support. Your.
- 29:38Your family or your people that you want to see on the
- 29:40basketball court? No, if you want to see somebody
- 29:43in our section that we are familiar with, just basically
- 29:47all the guys that get the hype all summer, but you don't see
- 29:49about it unless it's a highlight reel, right?
- 29:52But you'll be able to see them on a regular basis just watching
- 29:55the broadcast on River Eagle TV, right?
- 29:59We got this championship game coming up on Saturday.
- 30:02It'll be no stars against Dogs, you know my team.
- 30:07So that'll be a great game to be showcased because your coach,
- 30:12LG, you know, me and him go a long way back.
- 30:16I coached him, played against him in championship games when
- 30:21he was a player, and now we're coaching against each other.
- 30:25So full circle, I know this, I know the fabric of LGI, know
- 30:30he's a high level elite competitor, right?
- 30:33So you got him and me playing in this championship game on
- 30:36Saturday morning. Like Gerald told us earlier with
- 30:40the Elam ending rules in the 10 minute halves, that's going to
- 30:44just generate defense, generate additional activity on the court
- 30:49because it's a fast game, fast pace and it's going to end fast,
- 30:54right? So some of the players are a
- 30:57little, you know, misguided because they don't get a lot of
- 31:01time on the court. They got to wake up early to
- 31:03come play this game. It's probably going to last 30
- 31:06minutes and it'll be over with so.
- 31:09They're a little butthurt. About that.
- 31:10But you know, the game itself and the way it looks and when
- 31:13it's played and the action and excitement in that 15 minute
- 31:18window or wherever it's going to be, it's more action-packed in
- 31:24that moment than you can catch watching a full length NBA game.
- 31:31That's the other side to the trade off for a short compact
- 31:34game versus a long drawn out extended game, right?
- 31:38Sure. You know, so I know I've been
- 31:41talking. Yeah, that's good.
- 31:43No, it's good. This is this is the can you?
- 31:46Guys, can you guys hear me OK? Yeah, go ahead Gerald.
- 31:50Let let let give us some more background of of your platform.
- 31:53Well, Al did an amazing job, an outstanding job kind of painting
- 31:58the picture of of how we do it and what we do with street pro
- 32:01basketball in our tournaments. One thing that I want to
- 32:05emphasize is that in this process of introducing what is
- 32:12essentially a new brand of basketball, what I'm personally
- 32:16finding out and it's OK, it's OK because it's all a part of the
- 32:20process. It's all part of the journey is
- 32:22when you introduce something new, you have to establish and
- 32:25prove that concept. And when you compare that with
- 32:28something that's tried and true, you're going to get serious
- 32:32comparisons. And so you got to kind of pay
- 32:34your dues. You kind of have to show why
- 32:37this makes sense. For example, St. pro basketball,
- 32:40the question is often asked why, why are you doing 10 minute
- 32:44halves? You know, it's not like the
- 32:46traditional game of of what's going on.
- 32:49Well, that's expressly why we created this brand that has
- 32:53unique feel to it. You have to either be first to
- 32:56market or you have to find yourself being best in the
- 33:01market. So even if you're not the first
- 33:02one in the market, if you create something that's the best in the
- 33:04market, a better mousetrap if you will, you're going to
- 33:07attract a fan base and customers.
- 33:09So we're going to have to pay our dues a little bit.
- 33:11Fortunately, I was a former NBA free agent back in the late 80s.
- 33:14So I mean, I know all about it in terms of, you know,
- 33:17preparation, work ethic, conditioning, competitive
- 33:23fierceness on the court. And when you step on the court
- 33:25to win, not just to play, not just to play, but when you talk
- 33:29about champions, champions don't enter the gym to participate.
- 33:34Champions. Walk in the gym to walk out
- 33:37having won, getting the chip, getting the trophy, winning the
- 33:40game, whatever it may be. It's a whole nother mindset as a
- 33:43champion. And so as far as being willing
- 33:47to take on that battle, if you will, of folks saying, well, you
- 33:50know, what's the 10 minute game? It's, you know, yada, yada,
- 33:52yada. Well, here's the thing.
- 33:53What especially, you know, going back to that, attempting to
- 33:56build a better mousetrap. I don't think it would have
- 33:59served us well to come out with a brand that is played the same
- 34:05time length as every other basketball game because we're
- 34:07just a new face in the market, but nothing different.
- 34:11So what does that do? It gives us an opportunity to
- 34:14show another way of doing it and then we have to earn that fan
- 34:18base. If you're going to come with a
- 34:20different flavor, that flavor better have some taste to it and
- 34:23it better have some stick ability.
- 34:25So people want to taste it again and again.
- 34:27So you have to you have to earn that if you will.
- 34:30Like I tell players when I was mentoring different players,
- 34:34when you, when you desire to be a champion and if you're blessed
- 34:38to get into a championship game, my first recommendation is
- 34:43obviously you know, you didn't get there by accident.
- 34:45You went through a lot of teams to get to the championship game
- 34:48#1 so you, you deserve to be there.
- 34:50But here's the thing that usually cuts through, clarifies
- 34:53and defines who's going to win that championship.
- 34:57If you are not already an existing champion, you very well
- 35:01might be playing a team who's won a championship or might be
- 35:04the defending champions. So they haven't decided answers.
- 35:07They've been there and done that and they're expecting to do it
- 35:09again. If you have not won a
- 35:11championship and you're playing against the champion, my advice
- 35:15has always been before you step on that court, you better had a
- 35:18mindset. I came here to win and I'm
- 35:19willing to compete. You got to take the
- 35:21championship. They're not going to give it to
- 35:22you. You got to take it right.
- 35:23So you got to believe you're a champion before you win a
- 35:26championship and how you step into it.
- 35:28So with street pro basketball, I was saying, and I was sure with
- 35:31Anthony, the other Co founder, we got to build that brand.
- 35:34But here's what I believe will happen.
- 35:36We'll we'll develop a following because why are people going to
- 35:39like this? They're going to say, well, and
- 35:41number one, you don't have to stick around all day to see the
- 35:43game because it's about, you know, 30 minutes and from the
- 35:47tip, from the tip to the chip to the to the winners, about
- 35:50roughly 30 minutes, give or take.
- 35:52Then secondly, and I think this is going to work on our favor.
- 35:56It's high octane action. You know, it's literally old
- 35:59school. It's going to the gym.
- 36:00You have no guarantee you walk in that gym, you put five
- 36:03players together and it's, you know, 1st 211 by ones.
- 36:06And so you're scrapping, you're getting it in because what you
- 36:09got you if it's a good gym with good players, you got 40 other
- 36:13players sitting in that gym waiting for they got next down,
- 36:15next down. So the ground is always playing
- 36:17in that environment. You want to walk in and do what
- 36:20we call hold the court down. You want to play 4, maybe five
- 36:24games without losing, so you can come to your and just hold the
- 36:28court down and play till you get tired and then you know, I'll
- 36:32give you my spot. If we I'm going to play so we
- 36:34can win, then I'm done. But once we win our team still
- 36:37on the floor and my man, I'm going to give you my spot.
- 36:39So you can say so you want to hold the court down.
- 36:41So I I think what's going to work to our advantage is that
- 36:44once people see that high octane action and we have the E
- 36:47lamenting at the first ball stoppage at the four minute mark
- 36:51in the second-half, teams will become be competitive right on
- 36:55through because they want to stay close to each other and
- 36:57they want to win, if not pull away.
- 36:58But when the elim ending gets implemented and say, for
- 37:02example, if it's 50 to 46, for example, ball stoppage goes out
- 37:05of bounds or coach calls a time out under 4 minutes in the
- 37:08second-half, then we're going to add eight points to the team
- 37:11that's leading that score. It becomes 58 in that example.
- 37:14So when that ball comes back and play, believe me, it's it's it's
- 37:18champion against champ. The the heart of a champion is
- 37:21going to rise cause king. When they come back on the
- 37:23floor, they know it's no overtime.
- 37:25It's first to 58. So that's why the teams want to
- 37:27stay close during the game. So when we get to the Elam
- 37:30ending it it's just, you know, straight downhill.
- 37:33It's like we got to and and I tell you what else happens.
- 37:35The third thing, which I think we're going to build up a
- 37:38basketball audience. We got to do that first.
- 37:40Excuse me, not a basketball audience, but basketball
- 37:43players, the competitors. We got to do that first.
- 37:45And then secondly, we're going to build the artists.
- 37:47Here's how we're going to, I believe, build, build the buy in
- 37:51from the players. It's because when they
- 37:52understand the competitiveness of it, they're going to say this
- 37:56is what we play for. This is like that, the whole
- 37:58octane where things ramp up even more.
- 38:00Now what happens when that goes down, fellas?
- 38:03Ball comes back and play first team to the target score wins.
- 38:07What happens when that ball comes back and play with
- 38:10championship level players are elite went women and men
- 38:13players. What happens coaches guess what
- 38:18you're going to start hearing hey protect the ball.
- 38:20Make sure that we get some on every trip get back on D you
- 38:24it's no more you don't have any you can't take plays off you
- 38:28can't take trips up the floor. Everybody's there.
- 38:30The highest skill levels are starting to come out.
- 38:33The passes are crisper, the focus, get the shot, follow the
- 38:36shot. Everything amps from a skill
- 38:38level you you it sharpens because you can't afford to have
- 38:41a 2 blank trips because you might just lose the game because
- 38:44you you know, just fall behind. So from a basketball competitive
- 38:48perspective, I think that's why players 25 to 35, men and women
- 38:53around the country, I think that's why they're going to buy
- 38:55into it because it's not just basketball.
- 38:57It's like we get a chance to show our very best skill set.
- 39:00And then at as the Elam ending kicks in, you're going to find
- 39:03out who can handle that pressure best, who still make shots that
- 39:07money shot down the stretch. So I think that's where the
- 39:10competitiveness will kick in from the the buying from the
- 39:13players. And then as those games are
- 39:15played and televised, I think the audience through our social
- 39:18media or our public, our, our, our PR agencies and our
- 39:25television commercials rate, I think the audience will start
- 39:28liking it because they'll like, I, I like seeing these.
- 39:30You don't have to wait all day in, in this case for Southern
- 39:33California, in the exhibition games, we're doing those in the
- 39:35morning. But in the regular tournament
- 39:37games, those will all be played in the afternoon.
- 39:39So players will have a chance to wake up out.
- 39:42They'll get a chance to to wake up.
- 39:44And. Give.
- 39:45The message on the corner at two or three in the afternoon.
- 39:48But I really, I really like the fact that number one, we got to
- 39:51challenge herself as an organization to ask answer the
- 39:54question, is this worth seeing? I think the competitiveness on
- 39:57the court will will answer that question emphatically yes.
- 40:00And I think as far as an audience, I think people will
- 40:03want to. You look at it as must see, must
- 40:05see TV because it's super competitive, but the proof will
- 40:08be in the pudding when you start having NBA players and WNBA
- 40:11players tuning in to watch the game and talking about it on
- 40:14ESPN. When it gets to that level, you
- 40:16know, we made the debt that we want to make, but we got to earn
- 40:19that. We got to earn that.
- 40:21Yeah, thank you for that. And again, I definitely look
- 40:23forward to being there with Coach LG and the IE Dogs
- 40:27competing against the Nova Stars.
- 40:30Give us some more background as far as some of the key reasons
- 40:34on your why you're doing this. I know from my perspective, the
- 40:38sickle cell trade conversation is very, very important to me as
- 40:41far as the sickle cell trade myself being a carrier and the
- 40:44disease community. So you got people can come
- 40:47actually be a part of your program, right, with their
- 40:48causes. And and so talk about that real
- 40:51for a little bit, right? Yeah, that that was all a part
- 40:54of the initial thought process process in terms of to your
- 40:58point, the why. Again, that was, you know, in no
- 41:01small part because of my marketing background.
- 41:03I thought about it. If we're going to bring a
- 41:05basketball tournament to to, you know, the the buying public
- 41:10around the nation, it needs to be more than just basketball
- 41:13because people can TuneIn and watch basketball in a lot of
- 41:16places, NBA games, WNBA, stuff like that.
- 41:19So I wanted to give the people a reason to support what we're
- 41:24doing. So in every tournament, in every
- 41:26city, we're going to give a portion when we do the
- 41:29championship games on Saturday, that's what we call the
- 41:32championship Saturday. In the actual tournament, there
- 41:35are up to 8 teams, 8 women's teams and eight men's teams that
- 41:40compete on Friday in the preliminary rounds.
- 41:43And then when we get to the final four on Friday and the two
- 41:45teams that win, the two women's top, the two top women's teams
- 41:49and the two top men's teams that play on Friday, they will
- 41:52advance to play a single championship game on Saturday,
- 41:56which we call Championship, Championship Saturday.
- 41:58And those games are, are televised on our pay-per-view
- 42:01channel for $9.95. So, so the why became, you know,
- 42:05why would somebody want to pay to watch a basketball game and
- 42:07say they could watch it for free on TNT or, or, or whatnot.
- 42:11Here's here's what we added to give a portion of that $9 away
- 42:15to worthy charities and underserved children's causes
- 42:20and organizations. So in this case with the game
- 42:23that's going to take place on on Saturday, August 8th, a portion
- 42:26of that $9 is going to be donated to the Boys and Girls
- 42:28Club of of Carson. Another portion is going to be
- 42:33donated to the Sickle Cell Disease Research Foundation of
- 42:35Los Angeles. And then we're also going to
- 42:37take, in this case, the exhibition game, 60% of however
- 42:42many tickets we sell, we're going to equally divide that to
- 42:46both teams in the exhibition games.
- 42:48So of that $9, a portion of that is actually going to go to both
- 42:53teams. Now that's the exhibition
- 42:55situation. So when we start traveling
- 42:57around the country, it's going to be reduced to 40%, but that
- 43:01will go to the Champions. So it's going to get to that
- 43:04competitive level you're planning to win.
- 43:05There is going to be a really, really nice in every situation,
- 43:08just like Saturday, there's a really, really nice coaches
- 43:12Championship trophy that we're going to get to the coach of the
- 43:15winning team and then the players get paid.
- 43:18We're also going to appreciate both teams for being in the
- 43:22building because we're going to have a consolation award for the
- 43:26coach that doesn't win. So it'll be a really nice
- 43:28Championship coaches trophy and we're going to have a
- 43:33consolation award for the coach that doesn't win so.
- 43:38How should like that one? Yeah, it will be.
- 43:44I, I, I personally think it's going to be a great game on
- 43:47Saturday between the Dogs and the Nova Stars because both
- 43:50teams are highly skilled and it's a championship game.
- 43:53So a game is a game, but a championship game, it's just
- 43:56another gear, another level that comes out of the players because
- 44:00it just means a bit more when you're playing for a
- 44:02championship, everything is on the line.
- 44:04So I'm, I'm excited to see it, see it play.
- 44:06But to your point, as we go across the country, we're going
- 44:09to move move that around to identify organizations in each
- 44:13city. Like for example, in September,
- 44:17we'll be in Baton Rouge, LA playing the tournament in in
- 44:21October, we'll be in Atlanta, GA playing St. pro basketball
- 44:24tournaments. We'll take a break November,
- 44:27December, not going to try to compete with the holidays.
- 44:29We'll just let that happen. And then in January we'll we'll
- 44:33revived the tournaments will play in Miami in January,
- 44:37February will be in Cleveland, OH, March will be in Chicago,
- 44:40IL, April will be in Dallas, TX, May will be in San Francisco, CA
- 44:47with the tournament. And then in June, June 18th and
- 44:5019th of 2027, all of the different cities, all the
- 44:55Champions, the men's team champion, the women's team
- 44:57champion from all those different cities are going to be
- 45:00brought to Southern California in June of 2027 to play a
- 45:04national championship tournament.
- 45:06So I like to call it, it's like the experience would be like the
- 45:09NCAA tournament on steroids because it won't just be
- 45:11players, it'll be all champions by on Friday for the preliminary
- 45:17rounds and the, and the Champions that rise to
- 45:19championship Saturday, they've all won across the nation.
- 45:22So it'll be all champions in the building.
- 45:25So, and in every city, you know, I'm going to do the research and
- 45:28identify a charity. It could be, you know, we'll
- 45:31just do the work, you know, to find out a deserving charity and
- 45:35and children's organization. So we can donate a portion of
- 45:38those proceeds. So now when people thinking
- 45:40about buying a $9 ticket, it's like not just basketball, but
- 45:44it's for a good cause. So you'll have both energies
- 45:47going. You'll have people that may not
- 45:48be really great basketball fans, but they'll say I like what you
- 45:52guys are doing. I'm a buy a ticket.
- 45:53I may not watch the game, but I like, you know, the 'cause that,
- 45:56you know, my $9 is going to. And you have basketball fans who
- 45:59want to serve a good cause, but they also want to see great
- 46:02basketball. So that that'll be what that's
- 46:04going to. Be yeah, I appreciate that
- 46:07because for me, you know, as as an advocate for health and
- 46:10safety, both of those causes for our children, definitely for the
- 46:15Boys and Girls Club, I mean, providing those resources,
- 46:18providing those skills, but also not just the skills, but the
- 46:21social emotional conversations that that go along with that,
- 46:24right. And then also the health and
- 46:26safety with the sickle cell research that needs to be done.
- 46:29So sure, I appreciate both of those awarenesses that you have
- 46:33for that. So I'll make sure that I share
- 46:35this with my community on both aspects so that they can have a
- 46:39choice to chime in or check it out.
- 46:42Most most definitely on our. On
- 46:45ourwebsite@stprobasketball.net, we actually have a, a, a area on
- 46:50the, on the website where people can make suggestions.
- 46:54So when we're coming into their city, they can say, hey, you
- 46:56know, be, be aware of this organization or that
- 46:58organization. So we want that, we, we want
- 47:02those suggestions. We want that buy in and we're
- 47:04looking for that those leads as we go into the different cities.
- 47:10Big Al you got anything man you want to add to the conversation?
- 47:13Did we miss anything? No, you guys just hitting it,
- 47:17hitting it all, really, to be honest.
- 47:19I mean, it's been good. Like, like Gerald was saying, we
- 47:23have to do something different that is not going to look the
- 47:26same, feel the same and have the same expectations, you know, to
- 47:30get people involved. So they'll realize that there's
- 47:33some new movement going on in the basketball community and
- 47:38people should most likely slow down just a second and pay
- 47:41attention to the new movement, right?
- 47:44Because there's, there's going to be a lot of stuff happening
- 47:47here in the future. If you ask me, basketball is
- 47:49changing. People are getting tired of of
- 47:52the same process that we witnessed year after year
- 47:56watching players get snubbed that they they want to see
- 48:00advance guys that don't get drafted, that, you know, fans
- 48:05and spectators feel like we're better players than some of the
- 48:08guys that did get drafted, right?
- 48:11Where are those guys? We say that they went to the G
- 48:14League, right? OK, well, what are you doing?
- 48:16G League? How come we don't know?
- 48:19How come we don't see? Right?
- 48:22So that's deliberate. Obviously it's there's no need
- 48:26in trying to talk softly around that.
- 48:29The NBA is just hiding those guys because they know if they
- 48:33let them go, there goes another league that they got to compete
- 48:37with, OK? Because those guys can make
- 48:40another league that are in the G League, right?
- 48:44It's just nobody wanted to step out on that ledge when it was
- 48:47talked about because they didn't have the money.
- 48:50They had the money, the NBA had the money, had the money.
- 48:55So that's what turned it into. They are hiding those guys for
- 49:02the most part. Yeah, unfortunate, but
- 49:06something's got to change. People are just getting tired of
- 49:08it. It's getting old, and we don't
- 49:10want to see it no more. You know, the G League is
- 49:13turning into more of a joke than a serious platform for upward
- 49:17mobility, right? Nobody ever comes out of it.
- 49:20It's almost like a a pit of endless failure in that thing
- 49:27because when you go there, you ain't coming out.
- 49:32Get it? And to be honest, the only
- 49:36reason, the only reason you seen Brownie go back and forth so
- 49:40many times, it's because of his daddy and the fact that they're
- 49:43pushing to try to make him a professional basketball player
- 49:47when he's not, he ain't he ain't going to be.
- 49:50I don't care what people talking about trying to support him and
- 49:53talking about, oh, it's he's great because shut up.
- 49:59I know. Basketball, he ain't great.
- 50:01He shouldn't have been in the NBA.
- 50:03It's too many other guys that you screwing over just because
- 50:06he got a a name and a father that's taking care of him.
- 50:11And I don't care how much you think that nepotism is great for
- 50:14this kid. He is screwing over other people
- 50:18and that's what I can't get past when you screwing over other.
- 50:22People, you lost. Me on that forever.
- 50:26OK, so you could preach to me. About how he.
- 50:29He deserves a shot because of blah blah blah, but he needed
- 50:34two more years in school, you know?
- 50:37But back to the story, the reason that you don't see the G
- 50:40League growing and advancing is because they don't want those
- 50:43guys to, you know? Now give me the address so they
- 50:48can find out tomorrow. For.
- 50:52Carson. We're at Carson's.
- 50:55Oh, we're in Carson at veteran Park.
- 50:57I know Veteran park has like 19 locations.
- 51:00So when you put it in your map or your your, your MapQuest,
- 51:04Google whatever you doing, put in the one at Carson.
- 51:08The Carson location for Veterans park.
- 51:10I don't have the street address but it's definitely Veteran's
- 51:14Park in Carson. I believe Gerald has the street
- 51:17address. You have to unmute, mute his
- 51:19mic. He can give you the exact
- 51:22coordinates for that location. I wonder if that's the Sports
- 51:31Complex. Yeah, it's Veterans Sports,
- 51:35Veterans Sports Complex, and it's 22400 Minnetka Avenue,
- 51:41MONETA Ave., Carson, CA 907 45. So it's basically like, for
- 51:50example, if you're on the 110 Freeway heading South, you get
- 51:54off at 223rd, make a left and you'll go about two blocks and
- 51:59you'll be at Minetka Ave. So it's it's literally like 2-2
- 52:03lights east of the 110 freeway, but it's right off of 223rd and
- 52:08Monaca. Soon as you get to 223rd and
- 52:11Monaca Giant Park location, the gym is right there on the
- 52:14corner. So you just pull right in the
- 52:16parking lot and walk in the gym. But we will have it pretty
- 52:20tricked out on August 8th because we're going to have a
- 52:24huge balloon display and an 8 foot by 8 foot banner say
- 52:28welcome to Championship Saturday.
- 52:31Kiss FM will be outside the building.
- 52:34They'll be broadcasting so they'll be doing a prize
- 52:37giveaway. So it's going to be lively and
- 52:39festive outside of the building. Then when you come inside, we
- 52:42got the DJ going on and the teams will be warming up.
- 52:45We're going to do a a video tribute to Ronnie Laws.
- 52:48Ronnie Laws will be present. He and his family will be able
- 52:50to do a halftime video tribute to Ronnie Laws.
- 52:54He'll be in the building with us, so yeah.
- 52:56But the address is 22400 Minetka Ave., Carson, CA 90745.
- 53:05About 70 miles from my house. Road trip but no thank.
- 53:13You both go. Ahead.
- 53:17No, thank you both for for for coming on and and sharing this
- 53:20platform. I prom this basketball.
- 53:23Like I said, I'm, I'm with you because I mean, in my day,
- 53:26that's what 24 hour fitness was, that's what you went to the
- 53:28parks. I went to the park like 3 * a
- 53:31week to play that, you know, first one to 15, first one to
- 53:3411, you win, you stay on. Like, you know, it's like what
- 53:38the first one to 11 by 1. I mean the those we, we know
- 53:41those games, right? Those are exciting, you know, so
- 53:44I like, I like the way you put that together.
- 53:47And I don't, I guess I don't think people will be concerned
- 53:49too much about it's a short time frame because it's basketball,
- 53:53right? It's it's high octane.
- 53:55And it it it addresses a a need that that has got to be
- 53:59addressed because when you have, you know, to AL's point, you,
- 54:03you have like the G leagues kind of hiding people away and stuff
- 54:07like that. But at the same time, when you
- 54:09have players that can play and players that want to play men
- 54:12and women, it doesn't take all day to show what you got.
- 54:15You know, that conversation before you step on the court,
- 54:17people that kind of like to talk game recognized games.
- 54:21So you know, that stuff gets shut down pretty quick.
- 54:23The more cat is talking about what he can do or who he is.
- 54:26Everybody listening to him say, all right, let's put it on the
- 54:29floor. Let's lace them up.
- 54:30Let's see what you got. Enough of that talking.
- 54:32Let's see what you got. So with the with the 210 minute
- 54:36halves, it really gives people the chance to, you know, show
- 54:39what they got and and go move on to the next thing.
- 54:42You don't have to be there all day.
- 54:43And a lot of times players kind of have that, you know, rite of
- 54:46passage where they think, you know, I'm the best.
- 54:48I'll be around. I'm going to, you know, play the
- 54:50regular season till we get to the playoffs.
- 54:52Then I'm a step it out. I don't I don't know as a
- 54:54champion level player, you can turn it on and off like that.
- 54:57I think you got to stay in practice, play your game,
- 55:01highest level all the time. And this version of St. pro
- 55:05basketball, to its credit of the name, it's like what we do
- 55:09first, first to 11 by ones. It gives you that, that
- 55:14commonality to say we're here to to play, to get that work out
- 55:17and move on to the next day. Yeah.
- 55:20Big Al, you got anything mention ABA, anything.
- 55:24Just won't leave it at that at the Pro Street ball.
- 55:28Yeah, Yeah. We'll just leave it there.
- 55:30I mean, it's it, it, it's something that's good.
- 55:33And I think people need to kind of focus there.
- 55:36I, I don't want to dilute that with ABA information on this
- 55:40particular conversation, you know what I'm saying?
- 55:43But I do, I do want to have one other thing for Ron and that's
- 55:47this is important. We talked a little bit about,
- 55:49you know, sharing the wealth on the $9 ticket for championship
- 55:54games, the Shree Pro Basketball Championship, Saturday games.
- 55:58But I, I do want to say this, and this is a credit to both Al
- 56:01and yourself, It does open the door.
- 56:05We have a platform, we have a stage now that opens the door
- 56:10that needs to be open because there are other things that are
- 56:14talked about that I I think are incredibly important,
- 56:18incredibly, incredibly strategic and incredibly necessary.
- 56:22So for example, and we won't, you know, try to cover it right
- 56:26here this red hot minute. But what I'm saying when I use
- 56:28the term other things, Al has shared with me some things that
- 56:31he has been developing, some incredible things, which I'm
- 56:35sure he can expound on at a later point, but some of the
- 56:38things that he has in mind to enhance the game, the the
- 56:41scouting, the different things like that.
- 56:43Now with this television platform we have, we can bring
- 56:46those things to light. And not only will the people
- 56:49involved with street pro basketball benefit, but people
- 56:51around the country and other leagues, even dare I say to the
- 56:54NBA level, they can be made better because of ideas that
- 56:59this man has in his head that he's developed.
- 57:01And we're going to bring those to light and to and to you for
- 57:04Ron, I would say this, the health and Wellness piece, you
- 57:07and I have already talked about that as we move around to
- 57:10different cities, we're going to implement some of those seminars
- 57:13prior to the Friday preliminary rounds getting tipped off.
- 57:17And we have all the players who are still, you know, in the
- 57:20tournament, no games have been played yet.
- 57:22They're all still eligible to work to get to a championship.
- 57:25But prior to tipping it off, prior to getting the basketball,
- 57:28we're going to talk about health and Wellness.
- 57:30How's your health? How's your mental Wellness?
- 57:32We we're going to do those seminars.
- 57:34So it's going to be more than just basketball, but it's a
- 57:36platform where we're, we're not going to block that out.
- 57:41We're going to be inclusive and not exclusive.
- 57:43So I love that about St. pro basketball as well.
- 57:46People are going to learn a lot. They're going to be exposed to
- 57:48some great ideas, great structural strategic plans.
- 57:51And I'm, I'm looking very much forward to supporting that and
- 57:56getting that on the Airways on television for both of you and
- 58:00for the rest. Of the league, Thank you,
- 58:02because there you speaking my language because that health and
- 58:04safety piece, that mental health and mental toughness.
- 58:07We talking about players chasing that hoop dream still and then
- 58:1130s, you know, and 40 year olds, which is not right or wrong,
- 58:13good or bad. But then how can you take your
- 58:16knowledge and information and give that back to that next
- 58:19generation to help them develop, right?
- 58:20Or even your peers that might, you know, be hard, like they
- 58:24want to put the shoes, they want to take the shoes off, but they
- 58:26just don't know how they going to feel after that.
- 58:28You know, that last laces taking that, you know that one shoes
- 58:31taking off office like so we can have those conversations about
- 58:34what's next, but ultimately your health and your safety is is
- 58:38your your body. A lot of us don't pay attention
- 58:40to our body. We push ourselves to the Max and
- 58:43then we think it's just muscle cramps when there could be other
- 58:45stuff going on with your health and and your health is wealth.
- 58:48If you really believe that, because if you don't have your
- 58:50health, you're not going to play well, you know, and so I
- 58:54appreciate you for allowing me to include that part of that
- 58:56aspect to the program. And so I look forward to to
- 58:59being a part of it for sure. Yep.
- 59:02And then just to kind of piggyback on that, since Gerald
- 59:06did bring it up, he he's right. I do have a couple of things
- 59:10that I'm working on that is going to enhance the game.
- 59:14I'm really excited. We're getting close to
- 59:16finalizing it. I was hoping to be done with it
- 59:19by July 15th, but we got to push back and we're looking to try to
- 59:25get this thing done here in the next couple of weeks.
- 59:30Provided that gets done, that means you'll see software that's
- 59:36going to put any sports program in the the sport of basketball
- 59:43on steroids. OK, With all the ups and downs
- 59:48that I've experienced, with all the pain points that I've
- 59:52learned in my 30 years playing this game, I put some things
- 1:00:00together to kind of, you know, eliminate those pain points,
- 1:00:04right? Nobody wants to go through
- 1:00:08trying to get something done and, and run into struggle and
- 1:00:12run into obstacles, right? Especially the the low level
- 1:00:16obstacles like the easy stuff. Nobody wants to have that pull
- 1:00:20you back. So obviously, you know, that's
- 1:00:23where we started with our software.
- 1:00:25We started with making sure that we have.
- 1:00:28Mold over and ran over all of those small obstacles that kind
- 1:00:33of, you know, stunts the growth of a a business, a basketball
- 1:00:37team that's trying to get off the ground.
- 1:00:40And we're talking about, you know, ball clubs and pro teams,
- 1:00:44OK, like the AAU clubs, the the teams that have a purpose, have
- 1:00:50a brand and built their brand. And they need to manage
- 1:00:53structure on the inside from logistics, keeping track of
- 1:00:58things like being able to monitor your players health,
- 1:01:02right? Having your players have tools
- 1:01:06to monitor the health, nutrition and all the things that they're
- 1:01:09going to need in order to become, you know, great at what
- 1:01:13they do. So yeah, it's a lot of stuff
- 1:01:16happening right now. And with all that going on, I'm
- 1:01:21excited, like I said, to just witness it all.
- 1:01:25You know, just being a witness to it has been a different level
- 1:01:31to me, I guess you could say. You've been at it for a while.
- 1:01:35Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And I don't want to discount the
- 1:01:40fact that you gentlemen are veterans.
- 1:01:42So this is a military veteran platform.
- 1:01:44So just want to acknowledge you too as well for paving the way
- 1:01:49for me. You're a little bit older than I
- 1:01:50am, so I want to say thank you for paving the way for myself
- 1:01:52because I had a great career outside of my sickle cell trade
- 1:01:56exertion. But thank you gentlemen, for for
- 1:01:59for that part of your life aspect.
- 1:02:00We didn't touch on that today, but you know, I think I think
- 1:02:04we're good. I want to relate to that
- 1:02:07basketball athlete. If y'all can, you know,
- 1:02:09entertain me for a second with this last piece, that that
- 1:02:12identity, that mental health, that mental toughness coming out
- 1:02:16of that camouflage uniform is no different coming out of that
- 1:02:19Basketball Jersey of them football jersey of them soccer
- 1:02:22cliques, right? So that's the part that for me,
- 1:02:26it gives your, your platform gives that extension to that.
- 1:02:31OK, maybe I don't have to quit. Maybe I could get out there for
- 1:02:3410 minutes. Maybe I could keep my body in
- 1:02:36shape for a, for a 30 minute game instead of trying to run up
- 1:02:39and down the court like myself, who I can only go to 24 hour
- 1:02:42fitness and maybe play half court.
- 1:02:45You know, if I'm feeling good, I might do one full court, but I'm
- 1:02:48not running back and forth. But just the mentality I believe
- 1:02:51is something that's the perfect outlet for the for the mind to
- 1:02:54be able to connect itself to instead of just taking the
- 1:02:57jersey off and sitting at home like back in the days, you know,
- 1:03:02and, and that's difficult for, for for us when you still have
- 1:03:05life left. So anything about that aspect of
- 1:03:08it, you see the transition from camouflage to jerseys and that
- 1:03:13relatedness and that for those athletes, in your own words.
- 1:03:20I would weigh on that for just a moment and say it gives rise to
- 1:03:24the importance of of what I would call having a circumspect
- 1:03:30perspective on not only the game, but on your life.
- 1:03:33And usually, you know, the ambition, for example, to get to
- 1:03:38the NBA is so intense. And when you, when you have the
- 1:03:41talent and the ability to do it, you've watched the other guys
- 1:03:45who did it and you know, there's, there's me go there.
- 1:03:48You feel like, you know, I've seen other guys that aren't as
- 1:03:50good as me that are in the league.
- 1:03:52So I know I need to just keep grinding and I'll, I'll crack
- 1:03:55that code and get in there. And you give it 100% to do that.
- 1:03:59However, you become so sometimes you become so absorbed and doing
- 1:04:04all the stuff you got to do to be your very best that it is
- 1:04:08literally consuming the process. So what happens is other stuff
- 1:04:12suffers. You get so focused and so
- 1:04:15committed to quote UN quote, getting to the league that you
- 1:04:18just get consumed by. So if in fact, you do get to the
- 1:04:21league, now you want to stay there.
- 1:04:23You work so hard to get there. You don't want to think about
- 1:04:25anything else. But how long can I stay?
- 1:04:27How much money can I make? Can I win a championship?
- 1:04:29And everything becomes second to that process.
- 1:04:33So, so I, I think to kind of create more inclusion and not so
- 1:04:39much exclusion the earlier we can start helping young men and
- 1:04:43young women to understand if you're a great basketball player
- 1:04:47or great anything, great baseball player, soccer player,
- 1:04:50football player, tennis player, boxer, so forth and so on.
- 1:04:54That's a beautiful thing. But that's not all there is to
- 1:04:57life. You're a human being who has
- 1:04:59talent athletically, for example, but you want to in
- 1:05:03include more things in that ecosystem so the earlier we can
- 1:05:06start giving people a reason to see, OK, I see when I'm doing my
- 1:05:11workouts, when I'm focused on this particular goal, I can
- 1:05:14spend time to that, but I also need to commit a certain amount
- 1:05:17of time to my health, my Wellness.
- 1:05:18What am I going to do? What do I like doing when I'm
- 1:05:21not playing basketball or my particular sport?
- 1:05:24And that's what I mean. That's what I mean by stuff gets
- 1:05:25lost because people are so consumed trying to do what they
- 1:05:27do. They don't.
- 1:05:29That's the only thing they do. So if you try to talk to them
- 1:05:31about something else, they almost get scared.
- 1:05:33It's like, I've already done this for so long.
- 1:05:35I don't know what else I want to do.
- 1:05:37When you ask them, what are you going to do when you stop
- 1:05:39playing? I don't know.
- 1:05:39I don't even want to think about it.
- 1:05:41See, that's, that's, that's an issue.
- 1:05:43We, we have to get in there before people reach that point.
- 1:05:46So more and more people will start saying when they're asked,
- 1:05:50what do you want to do after this is done?
- 1:05:52Well, I love doing this, I love doing that.
- 1:05:54So I'm looking forward to getting into that more.
- 1:05:56If they had, they're already doing it, not waiting until they
- 1:05:59can't play anymore. But.
- 1:06:00Now it's allowed. Do it before you get to that
- 1:06:03point. So that's we have a, we have a
- 1:06:04stage, we have an opportunity to help them understand.
- 1:06:08And if nothing else, not not trying to throw shade, not
- 1:06:11trying to discourage anybody, but if nothing else to say,
- 1:06:16eventually, if you're grown, you're going to have a family.
- 1:06:18So it behooves you to understand how to blend the process.
- 1:06:21You have kids, you have a wife. If you're a male or if you're a
- 1:06:24female, you got a husband and potentially kids.
- 1:06:26So even if you're great at what you do, you still want to spend
- 1:06:29quality time with your family. And so this is a part of it too,
- 1:06:32just like you spend quality time with your family, spend quality
- 1:06:35time with yourself learning who am I beyond my sport?
- 1:06:38And we have an opportunity to help them, help them understand
- 1:06:41that message. Thank you.
- 1:06:42Thank you. Please jump.
- 1:06:44In real quick, guys, because I got to get off here, I'm about 5
- 1:06:47minutes late for my training that I got with my interns.
- 1:06:50But that's exactly what the software that we created is
- 1:06:54going to do. It's going to keep everybody in
- 1:06:57tune with mental health, physical health, the nutrition
- 1:07:02side of things, the workouts, all that stuff is going to be
- 1:07:08included in the software. So we'll talk about that more.
- 1:07:11Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was. About to bring that up because
- 1:07:13Gerald mentioned it during the podcast section.
- 1:07:16So I wanted to throw that in before we got off, but.
- 1:07:19Thank you for your time, Al. Appreciate you, man.
- 1:07:21Thank you so much for your time. All right, all right.
- 1:07:23Appreciate you guys talk soon. Thank you.
- 1:07:25Yes. Sir, see you Saturday.
- 1:07:28Gerald, man, thank you for your time as well for sharing what
- 1:07:31you're up to. Man, again, you have been a
- 1:07:33huge, a huge encouragement in my life.
- 1:07:36Like I said, this is the team that I purchased the Ventura
- 1:07:38County Orcas and now we got the dogs and now we got the
- 1:07:42Riverside County Mavericks, so. You know.
- 1:07:44That that platform, those platforms for me is what we're
- 1:07:48talking about in this last part of the show these.
- 1:07:51Guys. Are chasing that whole dream,
- 1:07:52which is not right or wrong, good or bad, but what's next?
- 1:07:55And I want to do that space where they can come here, chase
- 1:07:59that. If you want to go overseas, you
- 1:08:00want to get to the G League or wherever you're trying to go to
- 1:08:03stay in shape. But if you really think you're
- 1:08:06done, let's have that conversation and figure out how
- 1:08:09we take your skills. And you're trying to put some
- 1:08:11camps together for the generation behind you.
- 1:08:14Maybe your son is playing ball or whatever that is.
- 1:08:16And now how can we transition? Include that in your life,
- 1:08:19right? Like you said, they for me,
- 1:08:21inclusion, exclusion is not just an activity, but it's the
- 1:08:24emotional experience of being included and excluded and to to
- 1:08:28feel emotionally excluded. Look at our country on another
- 1:08:33level, right? And the emotional exclusions
- 1:08:35that we go through and in this social justice and all these
- 1:08:38conversations of the way the world is pointing to.
- 1:08:41That's just one aspect. But what is that?
- 1:08:45You know, where, where's, where's your mind at as far as
- 1:08:47giving that information back? And we can like basketball ain't
- 1:08:50going nowhere. It's, it's, it's changed.
- 1:08:52The game's changing, You know, we can get back to the
- 1:08:55fundamentals of the game and get back to that.
- 1:08:57And and then maybe even teach these children the next
- 1:09:01generation, hey, you know what, maybe use basketball to get to
- 1:09:05that college, to get that degree to what you care about, right?
- 1:09:08Not just to play ball and chase the A/B ANBA, but or maybe even
- 1:09:14you know what, coach, I don't, I actually, I don't want to play
- 1:09:16ball. Actually you, you've opened my
- 1:09:18eyes that I can actually go over here and do things with the,
- 1:09:23with the mental toughness that I, I got from basketball.
- 1:09:25So because a lot of times athletes are afraid to even quit
- 1:09:28because or, or stop playing because the family dynamic is on
- 1:09:32the pressure of you got to get this.
- 1:09:34You got to go to this college so you can play, but the child
- 1:09:36might not even want to play ball no more.
- 1:09:38Yeah, yeah, That's so true. So.
- 1:09:40Where's that space to to say that, hey, you know what, coach?
- 1:09:42I don't think I really want to do?
- 1:09:44I'm only doing this because my dad or my mom.
- 1:09:47You know. And, and, and walk away with
- 1:09:49confidence, walk away with encouragement and walk away to
- 1:09:52another direction. Like, you know what, I can
- 1:09:54actually be a part of the game and not be the guy on the court
- 1:09:57shooting the jumper. Maybe I can get a job in the
- 1:09:59staff, you know, So there's other ways that I believe that
- 1:10:03basketball like for me as an example, becoming an owner of an
- 1:10:07ABA team and and my identity is is connected to this uniform.
- 1:10:12It's connected to this jersey. So I still get to live out that
- 1:10:14life basketball to be part of the game.
- 1:10:17I can't shoot the three all the time, but you know, maybe I can
- 1:10:20at least I go to the games there, you know, so that that
- 1:10:25identity for me is is still being fulfilled even as a ABA
- 1:10:28team owner. So joining forces with you and
- 1:10:31that street ball and talk about traveling.
- 1:10:33Yeah, good. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:35Bringing some awareness, Yeah. So thank you for your time.
- 1:10:39Any last words you want to say before I let you go?
- 1:10:42Just just want to express an extreme amount of gratitude and
- 1:10:46appreciation for you to show what you're doing, your work,
- 1:10:49your, your passion for what you do and, and your integrity and
- 1:10:53how you go about doing it and the consistency that you employ
- 1:10:58as you do it. So just a, a big giant thank you
- 1:11:01to you, you know, for having me on today.
- 1:11:04I appreciate that, but also a heartfelt word of encouragement
- 1:11:11to say continue in that which you have been assured of, stay
- 1:11:15at your post, keep keep sending the message out.
- 1:11:18Stay on message, stay on point and keep sharing and caring and
- 1:11:23and keep sharing the love that you're loving that you're
- 1:11:26giving, because a lot of people are are daily benefiting from
- 1:11:29it. And and that's a beautiful
- 1:11:31thing. So, you know, thank you for
- 1:11:33having me and also thank you for doing what you're doing and keep
- 1:11:35on doing it. Yeah, to God be the glory man.
- 1:11:37Thank you for that, Gerald. I'll see you in a couple of
- 1:11:39days. Yes Sir.
- 1:11:42Game time championship Saturday. All right, take it.
- 1:11:46Easy. Thank you.
- 1:11:46All right. He's out.
- 1:11:48All right, ladies and gentlemen, I didn't think that was going to
- 1:11:52go, but they worked out and hope you hung in there with the
- 1:11:55technical difficulties. But this is what happens when
- 1:11:58you are live broadcasting. Anything can go.
- 1:12:02You don't panic, you adjust, you make the changes and you pray
- 1:12:06that those who watch this though, who's listen, this is
- 1:12:10real life. You know, this is not edited.
- 1:12:13I'm not going to go back and chop that up and take that out.
- 1:12:15This is what it is. This is real life.
- 1:12:17This is on the court. Live broadcasting as a as a
- 1:12:20retired Army veteran who still has a basketball dream he's
- 1:12:24chasing as part of the ABA process and working with
- 1:12:28children and youth sports, right.
- 1:12:30So I'll play a PSA, come back and talk about my little my I'm
- 1:12:33gonna say my little but talk about a little bit about, you
- 1:12:35know what I'll share with with them at the end of the show
- 1:12:38around the middle toughness aspect of the game.
- 1:12:40So for Andoze shout out, what's the count?
- 1:12:43Do you remember studying sickle cell in biology class?
- 1:12:46What's the count on sickle cell? Trait Prevention is here to
- 1:12:49bring you awareness, education and prevention conversations
- 1:12:52around the risk factors of this inherited gene.
- 1:12:55Visit WDCON sct.org. Hey, man, how you doing?
- 1:13:18Hey did. You see the game last night.
- 1:13:21But did you see the shot? I lost money.
- 1:13:23From that oh. Man, that shot was old man, but
- 1:13:25it was good, yeah. What's the you really want to
- 1:13:35know? I do.
- 1:13:41Exhaustion. Muscle spasm.
- 1:13:43Asthmatic. Issues unexpected sickle cell
- 1:13:46trait trait Damn are you serious?
- 1:13:49When I was young, I. Found out I had.
- 1:13:50Sickle cell trait. My mom's told me but I didn't
- 1:13:53have no knowledge of it. But when I got older I had a
- 1:13:55child and the doctor told me my daughter had sickle cell trait.
- 1:13:58Do you know the fact that both parents have sickle cell trait?
- 1:14:01There's a 50% chance the child may have the trait and 25%
- 1:14:05chance of child may have the disease and that's what's the
- 1:14:07count. Do you know that 2.5 million?
- 1:14:09People in the United States have sickle cell trait. 300 million
- 1:14:12people globally. I didn't find out I had sickle
- 1:14:14cell trait until I was in the army 10 years.
- 1:14:16Next thing you know, I had a sickle cell trait.
- 1:14:18Exertion site, Simple cell. I thought that was a black gene
- 1:14:21or something. Nah, man, the black.
- 1:14:23Community is number. 21. Out of 36,000 babies are being
- 1:14:26born with sickle cell disease. You could be a Caucasian
- 1:14:29Mediterranean European. You got to read a bloodline,
- 1:14:31man. There is an inherited gene in
- 1:14:36our community that has been. Forgotten the name is Sickle
- 1:14:39Cell trait. WDCONSCT, also known as What's
- 1:14:43the Count, is out to bring awareness, education and
- 1:14:46prevention to people all over the globe.

- 1:14:55visit www.wdconsct.org. All right, welcome back to the
- 1:15:13Fronde de Jose show on the military broadcast.
- 1:15:15Radio network. That's right, MB radio.
- 1:15:19So I just want to touch on, you know, why this conversation is
- 1:15:22important to me as as a retired Army veteran, you know, being
- 1:15:28able to transition you. Know for me transition and
- 1:15:33change. Was very difficult.
- 1:15:34It was it was it was it was something else for me.
- 1:15:37If I could say it is a kind way. But I want to talk about my
- 1:15:41basketball identity, how I even got, you know, to to be able to
- 1:15:44put this ABA jersey on it and support these players in the
- 1:15:48conversation that I care about only because, you know, I grew
- 1:15:53up around basketball. My uncle played ball, you know,
- 1:15:57so I, I have that in my family. And one of the big things, you
- 1:16:02know, with, with that was being in the backyard with my Uncle
- 1:16:05Kelly, playing basketball, watching him getting the ball
- 1:16:09out the net for him as he was, you know, practicing in the
- 1:16:12yard. My grandfather put up a
- 1:16:13basketball goal in the backyard. So just being a part of that
- 1:16:18culture, part of that environment with him seeing that
- 1:16:21I, I got a picture of myself, you know, shooting.
- 1:16:25Somebody took a picture of me shooting the basket.
- 1:16:27You know, I was able to play when when because he never
- 1:16:30missed. So I was able to get on the
- 1:16:32court on the on the patio when when he was was done exercising
- 1:16:37to get his shots up. And so there's a couple of
- 1:16:39photos of me, you know, in the backyard shooting.
- 1:16:41But I really didn't have a basketball identity until for me
- 1:16:48was it was transition, it was change.
- 1:16:51It was during the time where back in my day you went to 6th
- 1:16:55grade was elementary school and junior high was 789.
- 1:16:59And so 7th grade I was in a magnet program that that bust us
- 1:17:05in the city of South LA to the Valley.
- 1:17:09So I was able to go to school in this transition into a white
- 1:17:14school per SE in the Valley for, you know, for that culture.
- 1:17:18And so I did a year there in the Valley.
- 1:17:21And then we end up moving like The Jeffersons from from from a
- 1:17:26decent part of LA to a much nicer Hancock Park area of LA
- 1:17:31and end up going to school down the street.
- 1:17:34So imagine, I don't know if you can put your imagination in, in,
- 1:17:38in this conversation, but imagine going from elementary
- 1:17:43school, right, the transition to your high school, which is that
- 1:17:48whole transition and change, and then going to then another
- 1:17:53school the next year and another transition and change.
- 1:17:57And, and for me it was, it was the experience of being the new
- 1:18:01kid on the block, right? And, and I didn't know this at
- 1:18:04the time, but I had already been dealing with at least 2 year
- 1:18:11old, 5 year old, 6 year old, 8 year old, 11 year old.
- 1:18:17I'd already been dealing with those emotional decisions and of
- 1:18:20identity crisis that I've that stories that I made-up already
- 1:18:23the 2 year old, the five year old, the six year old, the 11
- 1:18:31year old, that's four decisions that I already made.
- 1:18:34So by, by junior, by, by by 8th grade, I was already dealing
- 1:18:41with my own emotional issues around just social emotional
- 1:18:47traumas. I'm not good enough, I'm not
- 1:18:48worth it. I feel abandoned.
- 1:18:50My dad doesn't love me. My mom can't trust my mom like,
- 1:18:54you know, my I can't. My peers laughed at me when I
- 1:18:56was reading in the second grade. Now this is all in the back.
- 1:18:59I can't. I didn't know this at 13 years
- 1:19:02old. I didn't know this, but this is
- 1:19:04playing back after I did the healing in these areas of the
- 1:19:07stuff that I discovered that was going on with me at 11, right?
- 1:19:11And then I go to this school, new school in 8th grade and I
- 1:19:15walk on the campus through those gates and I, I don't know
- 1:19:20anybody. I think I was, I think I was
- 1:19:23told that my friend Corey went to that school.
- 1:19:27I think, I think somehow I knew that, but I didn't know where to
- 1:19:30find him. But I think I knew Corey was at
- 1:19:32least there at that school because his mom and my mom, our
- 1:19:36families were friends at that time.
- 1:19:38So I walk on campus and I'm lost.
- 1:19:44I'm looking around. I don't know which way to go.
- 1:19:46And all I see is these this basketball courts over here on
- 1:19:50the yard and guys playing ball, you know, before class.
- 1:19:56And so I walk over to the basketball.
- 1:19:58Court. Put my backpack down and step on
- 1:20:03the court. Missed shot comes, I get the
- 1:20:06ball, I step out. Step back, take me a little
- 1:20:09jumper like I was doing in the backyard of my grandparents
- 1:20:12house and hey, the basketball identity is created, right?
- 1:20:18The basketball identity is created, but from what though to
- 1:20:24to? To get a sense of belonging.
- 1:20:28To get connected to be accepted, right?
- 1:20:33I don't know that at. 14I. Don't know that at 13, All I
- 1:20:36know is that I found, I found my tribe.
- 1:20:40I found some people that I could, I could shoot a little
- 1:20:43bit, you know, So I'm, I'm good. So guess what for?
- 1:20:47Ron is now on the basketball court before school recess,
- 1:20:55lunch and after school 4. I'm on the court four times a
- 1:20:59day before school. Recess.
- 1:21:04Lunch and after school. Now I'm sweating.
- 1:21:08All the way up before. I'm sweating before.
- 1:21:10Period. I'm already sweaty for first
- 1:21:13period but looking. Back at that for myself, I can.
- 1:21:18Point to that. That's where that basketball
- 1:21:21identity got started. But it was not started because I
- 1:21:23wanted to play ball. It was because of my wanting to
- 1:21:27be included emotionally. It was the sense of belonging to
- 1:21:32be accepted by my peers. It was all of these emotional
- 1:21:36things that my identity was able to capture and connect to that I
- 1:21:42could at least walk on the campus.
- 1:21:44And I know that if I don't know anybody, I know the guys that's
- 1:21:48on the court. And when I will walk through the
- 1:21:50class and hallways, guess what they say, hey, for you going to
- 1:21:53be out there at lunch, you going to come out there and recess?
- 1:21:56I'm going to see you after school, right?
- 1:21:58We go play 21. We go play 5 on five, right?
- 1:22:00That was, do you see the emotional state of that?
- 1:22:07I didn't have no I want. To go to the NBAI.
- 1:22:09Didn't have that was. Not that was not in my, in my,
- 1:22:13in my thought process. It was How do I?
- 1:22:18Connect to my peers. And not feel like I'm alone.
- 1:22:22To not feel like I'm on my own, To not feel like there's
- 1:22:25something wrong with me. And basketball became my.
- 1:22:29Space where I felt like. There was nothing.
- 1:22:31I was. I was.
- 1:22:32I was in and and and. So when you look at the
- 1:22:38different. Aspects of why we play sports or
- 1:22:41how we get into these conversations and you peel those
- 1:22:44layers off NBA college might be there, but what's underneath all
- 1:22:49of that? What was the drive to that?
- 1:22:54And so when you look at that for sports and basketball, we'd look
- 1:22:57at the same thing as military soldiers and veterans, a lot of
- 1:23:03us. Put that.
- 1:23:05Camouflage uniform on. That identity at at. 171819
- 1:23:09years old and if you end up doing 19 to to 25 or 19 to me
- 1:23:16like 43 years old from 19 to 43, that's the biggest gap of my
- 1:23:21life. So all I did was go.
- 1:23:24From a basketball identity. To a soldier identity and I
- 1:23:29still play basketball because the basketball now because my
- 1:23:31stress relief, right? Because it's an emotional
- 1:23:34release for me. The basketball is an emotional
- 1:23:38release for me. It's not that I got it.
- 1:23:41I'm playing because I want to play.
- 1:23:43I'm actually playing that because that's where I let my
- 1:23:45stress out. When I'm worried and I got
- 1:23:47stressed, I go and leave it all on the court and imagine that
- 1:23:56you have an. Inherited gene and and and you
- 1:23:58experience this. You experience this condition
- 1:24:00like rhythm myelosis, where you have skeletal muscular damage
- 1:24:04and joint damage, and now you can't play basketball anymore
- 1:24:09and you can't. Exercise like.
- 1:24:12The 19 like the 13. Year old.
- 1:24:15Like the 14, like the 19 year old body.
- 1:24:20And now what do I do? That was my transition, so not
- 1:24:26was only my military. Identity was trapped in that, in
- 1:24:28that. Rank and that camouflage, but
- 1:24:30also my basketball identity was connected in there too because
- 1:24:35now I can't play and all I wanted.
- 1:24:37To do was play. Basketball, that's my stress
- 1:24:41relief and not having that ability to.
- 1:24:45Play and get on the. Court I internalized a lot of
- 1:24:49those things, the pressures, the stressors, the career coming to
- 1:24:54an end like I can articulate it to you today because I've done a
- 1:24:57lot of work around those areas to be in front of this camera
- 1:25:01with you today and so. We can talk about the work, we
- 1:25:07can talk about it. What?
- 1:25:08It looks like but unless you apply those things to your life.
- 1:25:14I use personal development classes.
- 1:25:16I use. Cognitive behavior therapy.
- 1:25:19I use Caldwell's LBI solutions. I use grief counseling and grief
- 1:25:25management and grief support group.
- 1:25:27And ultimately I use the word of God.
- 1:25:30I use the Bible, the Bible principles, the biblical
- 1:25:32principles, and when I got to that point of using.
- 1:25:36The word of God. And all the stuff that the world
- 1:25:39has to say, and filtering those two conversations together,
- 1:25:44guess what? A lot of things didn't
- 1:25:47transition. Over to the word so then.
- 1:25:49If it didn't transition in the word for me, then I had to let
- 1:25:52that go. But I.
- 1:25:55Still use that because God created everything.
- 1:25:58For his good. So even the stuff that's in the
- 1:26:00world that they use, guess where it comes from comes from it
- 1:26:07comes from. Comes from the word.
- 1:26:10We think therapy came from where you think those came.
- 1:26:12Those conversations came from Maslow's hierarchy.
- 1:26:15I use Maslow's hierarchy chart with the Bible to challenge
- 1:26:22Maslow's hierarchy chart and the Bible and my view of life and
- 1:26:30what the world had to say about my.
- 1:26:32View of life. I use the Bible, Maslow's chart,
- 1:26:37My view of life and what the world's view of my life is about
- 1:26:41four areas and I was able to find.
- 1:26:46A level of peace. Because I realized that Maslow's
- 1:26:49chart was about the basic needs of surviving life for human
- 1:26:53beings. But the word of God says.
- 1:26:57Seek ye first the Kingdom of. God, Kingdom of Heaven and all
- 1:27:02this other stuff will be added. So then I had to read that and
- 1:27:05figure out, well what is this other stuff he talking about
- 1:27:07that's going to be added if I seek the Kingdom first?
- 1:27:10Well, guess what? That pointed to all the stuff
- 1:27:13that Maslow was talking about. Food, shelter, clothes, water,
- 1:27:19air, reproduction. It's at least six.
- 1:27:25You might find different categories.
- 1:27:27It's at least six categories that Maslow says that these
- 1:27:30basic needs have to be met for human being to experience.
- 1:27:36To. Experience not to not to do to
- 1:27:40experience safety and security. And if you experience, if you
- 1:27:43get all those complete in your life connected and and all
- 1:27:46worked out, then you can experience being.
- 1:27:50Safety and security. Now, what happens if one of
- 1:27:54those. Is out what?
- 1:27:55Happens when shelter comes out. What happens when water comes
- 1:27:59out? What happens when clothes come
- 1:28:02out? What happens when reproduction
- 1:28:05is not there? What happens when air is not
- 1:28:08there? What happens when food is not
- 1:28:10there? You're not going to experience
- 1:28:12being safety and security in your soul.
- 1:28:21You're not. I mean, you can, but it's going
- 1:28:24to be temporary. So that's what I had to do.
- 1:28:27I had to get to. That work.
- 1:28:28I had to do that work. So that's my basketball identity
- 1:28:32here today after 13 years, about to be retired in the military,
- 1:28:37and I can't play ball like I used to.
- 1:28:39I do my best, my mind says no, my mind says yes, but my body,
- 1:28:45my body's telling me no. But I'm still not afraid to get
- 1:28:49out there if if I really feel comfortable that day, I really
- 1:28:51feel like I've had enough water that day.
- 1:28:53If my back is not hurting too bad or my joints aren't hurting
- 1:28:57too, I'm not inflamed too bad. I would go.
- 1:29:01But to be honest, even if I'm in that state, I'll still go
- 1:29:04because sometimes the trade off of mental freedom, the.
- 1:29:10Trade off. It's actually go play right And
- 1:29:14it shoot around, come home. Now I might be down for a couple
- 1:29:20days physically, but my mind is so free.
- 1:29:25My mind is so free. So sometimes if you see me out
- 1:29:29there, that's the trade off that day that I'm willing to, I'm
- 1:29:33willing to give that I'm willing to give up that pain for some
- 1:29:36level of mental peace. And and I have to choose those
- 1:29:39battles. I don't take on the whole war,
- 1:29:41but I definitely pick my battles every day.
- 1:29:44And some days I don't leave the house if I'm in pain.
- 1:29:48I don't I'm. My body is.
- 1:29:50So yes, I look good. I know I look, I look good.
- 1:29:53But my, my injuries are internal.
- 1:29:55You can't see them. Can't see them.
- 1:29:58It's my. Body.
- 1:29:59Now you might notice. How I walk and even you might
- 1:30:03not, you might hear a. Couple moans and groans.
- 1:30:05Every now and then, because I really protect it.
- 1:30:07I was trained not to show my pain, and that's one thing that.
- 1:30:12Says as veterans, we got to be able to.
- 1:30:14Take that layer off and ask for help, ask for support.
- 1:30:20All right, so I'm going to play another PSA and then I'm going
- 1:30:23to get out of here very, very, very important conversation that
- 1:30:26you've heard today. I hope you heard something for
- 1:30:27yourself today because for our veteran community, very, very
- 1:30:34important for people to understand how mental toughness,
- 1:30:41your body, your health, all of that is important.
- 1:30:47All of that is important. And the mental toughness aspect,
- 1:30:51I'm not, I'm not any of that. I'm just a patient advocate.
- 1:30:57I'm a patient advocate, so I'm going.
- 1:30:58To play this PSA. And then I'm going to come back
- 1:31:00and I'm going to wrap up the show again.
- 1:31:02Thank you for tuning into the Front Door show on the Military
- 1:31:05Broadcast Radio Network Charlotte Southwest Account.
- 1:31:07Do you remember studying sickle cell in biology class?
- 1:31:11What's the count on? Sickle Cell Trait Prevention is
- 1:31:13here to bring you awareness, education and prevention
- 1:31:16conversations around the risk factors of this inherited gene.
- 1:31:19Visit WDCON sct.org. I'm Farron Dossier.
- 1:31:27I'm a retired Army Sergeant. First class, 24 years.
- 1:31:33One day my knees just started hurting and then my shoulders
- 1:31:36started hurting and my hips started hurting and my hands and
- 1:31:39my wrists and then next thing you know my whole body was
- 1:31:42inflamed like I could barely walk.
- 1:31:44We're trained through basic training, suck it up and drive
- 1:31:46on. We don't really complain about
- 1:31:48how we feel as far as pain. My friends and family would see
- 1:31:51me and they would ask me if I'm in pain.
- 1:31:53I'll be like no no, no I'm not I'm fine, I'm fine.
- 1:31:58I end up going to a. Rheumatologist she put some
- 1:32:00fluid out of. My knee and she was like, oh,
- 1:32:02you have arthritis? And then that was it.
- 1:32:04Like what? And so that began the additional
- 1:32:09physical journey of my body and trying to manage it.
- 1:32:13Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I see that 19 year old
- 1:32:17body that joined the military. And then I want this 51 year old
- 1:32:21guy to have that body back. And I have to remember that that
- 1:32:24that body is not here anymore. When I started to talk about
- 1:32:28what I was dealing with in my aches and pains, I've had fellow
- 1:32:31colleagues and other soldiers like, yeah, man, my shoulder, my
- 1:32:34knee. I would say to my my veterans
- 1:32:37who are dealing with something similar, it takes a level of
- 1:32:40courage or confidence to do the research and figure out what
- 1:32:43works best for you. Create a plan with your provider
- 1:32:47and talk to them and maybe try different things to see what
- 1:32:50helps your pain levels. That same courage that you have
- 1:32:54to defend this country that we use, use that same courage to
- 1:32:57take care of your health. Yeah, me.
- 1:33:11That was me. That's something.
- 1:33:15Ain't that something No beard, 51 years old and I manage
- 1:33:21arthritis. Shout out to the Arthritis
- 1:33:23Foundation for allowing me to be a part of that campaign.
- 1:33:26So it's real life. So thank you for tuning,
- 1:33:28listening today. I pray that you've heard
- 1:33:30something for yourself as a as a part of our community.
- 1:33:33I hope you learn something for yourself and hope you.
- 1:33:35I don't, I don't like to say inspired, but you know,
- 1:33:38sometimes you got to be encouraged, right?
- 1:33:40Sometimes inspiration is not enough, sometimes motivation is
- 1:33:43not enough. Sometimes coping skills are not
- 1:33:46enough. Sometimes you just got to go
- 1:33:47figure out what is the root of your issue, What is the root of
- 1:33:51that 'cause, right? And if you willing to do the
- 1:33:53work to get to the root of that, there's freedom on the other
- 1:33:56side, there's transformation on the other side and you get you
- 1:34:00get to live of the day to figure out what's next.
