- 0:08Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 0:19wonderful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 0:23And as you exhale, give permission to release any
- 0:33emotions, any sensations, any feelings that aren't useful for
- 0:40you right now. Tension isn't needed.
- 0:45Stress isn't needed. So just allow anything unuseful
- 0:51to feel like it's melting away and leaving your body in your
- 0:59outward breath. And when you breathe in, breathe
- 1:05in deeper than you normally would.
- 1:09And as you exhale, just allow that outward breath to elongate,
- 1:20to keep on going and going maybe twice as long as a normal
- 1:26outward breath. And each breath allows you to
- 1:34drift deeper and deeper, and with your eyes closed, notice
- 1:44how much easier it is to focus on the sound of my words, the
- 1:50rhythm of my voice. And I wonder if you can notice
- 1:58how the world outside can simply wait, because this time this
- 2:08space belongs entirely to you. And you might become aware of
- 2:18the weight of your body, the places where you are supported,
- 2:25the chair or surface holding you, doing all the work so you
- 2:33don't have to. And with each breath, without
- 2:41forcing anything, just allowing, you can feel something beginning
- 2:51to settle, like a snow globe that's been shaken and is now
- 2:58settling into stillness. Your unconscious mind is always
- 3:06listening, always learning, and it already knows so much more
- 3:16than your conscious mind gives it credit for.
- 3:20And that's perfectly fine. And I wonder if you can imagine
- 3:30a trail, a road or a pathway, your pathway stretching out
- 3:37before you, perhaps through a forest or nature, with the light
- 3:43filters through the leaves in that particular way that it
- 3:48does, where every step takes you somewhere quieter, somewhere
- 3:56more you. And as you walk, you might
- 4:03notice that the sounds around you have a quality of distance
- 4:09now that the mind's usual chatter becoming like birdsong
- 4:18in the far trees, present but peaceful, requiring your
- 4:26attention at all. Take steps there on the path
- 4:33through the forest, 10 steps deeper. 9 and then eight.
- 4:40Each step double S your relaxation. 765 the ground
- 4:47beneath. Feel solid, real.
- 4:50You are safe, 432 and 1, and maybe there's a clearing in the
- 5:01forest. And here you are in this place
- 5:08of deep knowing where your unconscious mind can receive and
- 5:16where something important is already beginning to shift.
- 5:25And there is a story, a very old story that every human lives out
- 5:36without perhaps realizing it. And your unconscious mind knows
- 5:44this story well. Once there was a person who
- 5:51lived in a world that felt just manageable, A world with edges,
- 6:01edges that felt safe, edges that felt known.
- 6:08And within those edges, life was predictable.
- 6:14It had its rhythms, its routines, its familiar shapes,
- 6:21and sometimes, in certain situations, when the world felt
- 6:27too large or too watchful, A sensation would arrive, a
- 6:34tightening, A quickening, something the mind called
- 6:40danger, even when there was no danger at all.
- 6:49And for a long time the instinct was to step back from that edge,
- 6:56to find safety in the smaller space.
- 7:03The mind learns early that if you avoid the thing that
- 7:09frightens you, that horrible feeling goes away.
- 7:17But here's what your unconscious already suspects, or perhaps
- 7:23already certain of. Avoidance doesn't shrink the
- 7:29fear, it feeds it. It enlarges it.
- 7:36It is a room that grows with the darkness you feed it, and
- 7:42shrinks very naturally when light or action is brought in.
- 7:53And now something has shifted, hasn't it?
- 8:00Because you already know this. At some level, you've already
- 8:05begun to answer a call, a call that comes not from outside, but
- 8:14from somewhere deeper than thought.
- 8:20And that call sounds like this. What if the very thing I've been
- 8:27avoiding is the thing that will set me free?
- 8:34Your body, in its wisdom, has been preparing you all along.
- 8:43That quickening you feel before a challenge, those sensations
- 8:49you once called anxiety, is the body summoning its resources,
- 8:57calling in its reserves, getting ready.
- 9:04An athlete before a race, an actor there on the edge of the
- 9:11stage, the speaker before hundreds of people.
- 9:19They all feel it. That aliveness, that readiness.
- 9:25The body's saying I know this matters.
- 9:30I am here and nothing will deter me.
- 9:34And what if from this moment, you could meet that sensation
- 9:43not with resistance, but with recognition?
- 9:48There you are. I know what you are.
- 9:53You are my preparation. You are the edge of my comfort
- 9:59zone. You are my body getting ready to
- 10:03be brilliant. FEAR, fear.
- 10:14False evidence that appears real.
- 10:20There's something important to understand about this guardian
- 10:24at the gate, this sensation that stands on the border of your
- 10:29edges, of your comfort zone. Imagine for a moment you are
- 10:37walking through a dark room and in the shadows something looms.
- 10:45Something large, something that feels threatening.
- 10:51The minds is danger. The body braces.
- 10:59Then you reach out. You find the light switch and
- 11:05what you thought was a monster or a villain is a coat on a
- 11:10chair. What was scary, enormous,
- 11:14dangerous, is ordinary. What felt real was simply false
- 11:23evidence appearing real FEAR. False evidence appearing real
- 11:36fear is not always a signal of danger, it's a signal of
- 11:43significance. It's the psyche saying this
- 11:49matters. Pay attention, you are about to
- 11:55grow. I want you to picture a child
- 12:02that was so afraid. You helped them cross that
- 12:08threshold of fear into something they could do.
- 12:15What you did for them, you can do for yourself.
- 12:19You already know how because you showed someone else the way.
- 12:29Darkness only needs one thing to dissolve.
- 12:33Light, and action is light. Movement is light.
- 12:41The simple decision to take one step toward The thing is light.
- 12:51In the old stories, the hero is always tested, not once, but
- 12:59repeatedly. And each test is not a
- 13:04punishment, it's a gift in disguise, an opportunity to
- 13:11discover what they truly are made of.
- 13:18And there is a rule, a simple but powerful rule, one that
- 13:26works like a compass in uncertain terrain.
- 13:32When I notice anxiety that serves no useful purpose.
- 13:38When I notice fear that is protecting me from nothing, I
- 13:43move toward it until the feeling subsides.
- 13:50What if that is how you call fear's bluff?
- 13:56You look it in the eye and you say I see you and I'm doing it
- 14:04anyway. The bluff collapses, It always
- 14:12does, because it has no substance, only the appearance
- 14:19of substance. And the moment you step forward,
- 14:25reality reveals itself. And reality is almost always
- 14:35kinder than fear promised it would be.
- 14:41And each time you call the bluff, something happens in the
- 14:46nervous system. A new pathway forms.
- 14:53A new reference point is created.
- 14:58The unconscious mind files it carefully and notes we did that
- 15:08and we are still here and actually we are more than we
- 15:16were before. Feel like this is the next
- 15:21stepping stone after? Let's see.
- 15:27And what if you unleash a desire to call the bluff of fear?
- 15:36To move beyond the edges, expanding the comfort zone?
- 15:42There comes a moment in every hero's journey.
- 15:49The darkest moment, the greatest challenge, the thing that seems
- 15:57too large, the situation that seems designed specifically to
- 16:04undo all progress. In the old stories they call
- 16:12this the Nemesis, the supreme test, the dragon at The Cave
- 16:21entrance, the storm before the harbour.
- 16:28And here is the secret that only those who have crossed this
- 16:32threshold know. The Nemesis is not there to
- 16:38defeat the hero. The Nemesis is there to reveal
- 16:43them. They show the hero what and who
- 16:50they have become. So when the test comes, and it
- 16:57will come as it comes for every person, rather than fear it, you
- 17:04can welcome it, as strange as that sounds.
- 17:09You can say I've been expecting you.
- 17:15This is the thing that proves I have changed.
- 17:21This is the fire that tempers the steel.
- 17:28And every time you face the thing outside your comfort zone,
- 17:34every time you take that step into the daunting space, your
- 17:41whole comfort zone expands. Not just in that area, but
- 17:47everywhere. Because courage is not
- 18:05compartmentalised, it belongs to all of you.
- 18:18Stand up in front of people who might laugh and something
- 18:23happens to your fear of smaller judgments.
- 18:27Volunteer for that difficult thing and the ordinary difficult
- 18:33things become easy. Face the one big fear and the
- 18:41100 small fears. Loosen their grip.
- 18:47And what is the reward for all this?
- 18:51For calling the bluff, For moving toward the shadow?
- 18:56For stepping into the daunting thing, What if it's a life, a
- 19:06future, a self that is more capable, stronger, larger than
- 19:15it was? I want you to imagine a circle
- 19:20drawn in the sand. Everything inside the circle is
- 19:26familiar, safe, known. Everything outside the circle in
- 19:33the sand is unknown, uncertain. This is the comfort zone.
- 19:46And just imagine, every time you step outside the circle, it
- 19:50grows. It expands to include where you
- 19:56went. The circle gets bigger.
- 20:00Your world gets bigger and the person at the centre of that
- 20:06circle gets bigger too. A goldfish in a bowl remains
- 20:13small. A goldfish in a lake becomes
- 20:18large. Those things that once caused
- 20:22dread would then feel manageable.
- 20:28The sleep that was broken by tomorrow's worry now comes
- 20:33naturally because your nervous system has learned through
- 20:39experience, not just through words.
- 20:44That the world on the other side of fear is survivable, is
- 20:51worthwhile, is often wonderful. And just as you have already
- 21:01begun to notice a different quality to the mornings, a
- 21:08different relationship with the sensation in your chest before a
- 21:11challenge, this is only the beginning of how different
- 21:19things will feel in every great story.
- 21:27The hero returns home, but they return changed, carrying
- 21:34something they didn't have when they left.
- 21:39A gift, a wisdom, a medicine that they now offer to others.
- 21:50You are already living this. Every breakthrough, every
- 21:57progress within you is an opportunity to guide someone
- 22:04else. You already know where you are
- 22:13in this story, but I want you to imagine that future where you
- 22:20return the conquering hero in possession of that gift that
- 22:27benefits you, but also that you can give to others.
- 22:33And just as a candle can light other candles, your gift doesn't
- 22:39disappear if you give it to others.
- 22:44The work you do on yourself never stays contained to you.
- 22:51It ripples. It models, it gives permission
- 22:58to those who watch you simply be someone courageous, brave,
- 23:04confident. That shy, timid version of you
- 23:10from the past flourishes, expands, because you are someone
- 23:20who faces the daunting thing, someone undeterred.
- 23:29And your unconscious mind can carry all of this forward, not
- 23:35as an instruction to be remembered, but as a knowing
- 23:40that is already part of you, already woven into how you move
- 23:47through the world and your future.
- 23:54Because from this place of deep knowing, allow these
- 23:59understandings to settle into the places where change lives.
- 24:06Not in the mind that thinks, but in the body that acts, in the
- 24:14nervous system that remembers, in the unconscious that guides.
- 24:24Whenever you notice fear that has no useful purpose, you will
- 24:28know it as false evidence appearing real, and you will
- 24:33choose action. Action calls the bluff of that
- 24:39fear. And every time you step outside
- 24:43your comfort zone, your comfort zone expands and you expand with
- 24:51it. You can always call fear's
- 24:56bluff. You can move toward it until the
- 25:01feeling dissolves and disappears.
- 25:06And the more you do it, the harder fear is defined.
- 25:12Because your hero's journey is already underway and the test
- 25:19you face are not obstacles, they are the very evidence that you
- 25:24are growing, evolving, improving.
- 25:29Because you are becoming someone who acts despite the feeling,
- 25:35and with each action you become more of who you are truly meant
- 25:41to be. Very soon I will count from 1:00
- 25:50to 10:00 to awaken you. You will awaken with a new set
- 25:58of beliefs around fear and anxiety, a desire to do what is
- 26:08beyond the comfort zone, to find it fun to call the bluff of
- 26:16fear. So take a deep breath in through
- 26:20your nose and out through your nose.
- 26:25Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 26:28Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 26:33from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 26:38Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 26:47Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910.
- 26:51Wide awake. Wide awake.
- 26:55Wide awake.
