- Lucas: Hey, Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Today, we're going to talk about something we've all been noticing lately – the weather. Luna: Oh, definitely. It's been so changeable. One minute it's sunny, the next it's raining. I need some Spanish words for this weather chaos. Lucas: Well, you're in luck. But before we dive in, let's take a second to mention that Fexingo is listener-supported. A few of you chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's what keeps this ad-free and going. We appreciate every one of you who does. Luna: Yeah, it truly helps us keep making these episodes. And hey, no pressure, but if you've been learning with us, it's a nice way to give back. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's get into today's topic. We're going to learn six phrases to describe the weather, perfect for spring days that can't make up their mind. Luna: Great. I've been wanting to say 'it's sunny' in Spanish. How do we do that? Lucas: You say 'Hace sol.' Try it slowly: Hace sol. It literally means 'it makes sun,' but it's how you say 'it's sunny.' Luna: Hace sol. Hace sol. That's pretty simple. So I can say 'Hoy hace sol' for 'today it's sunny'? Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's try another one. For 'it's windy,' we say 'Hace viento.' Like, 'hace' again, but then 'viento' for wind. Luna: Hace viento. I like that. So 'hace' is used for sun and wind. Is it only for those? Lucas: Good question. We also use 'hace' for temperature, like 'hace frío' for 'it's cold' and 'hace buen tiempo' for 'it's nice weather.' So that's two more phrases for you. Luna: Oh, so 'hace frío' and 'hace buen tiempo.' Let me try them: hace frío, hace buen tiempo. They're not too bad. Lucas: You're a natural. But for rain, we use a different verb. Instead of 'hace,' we say 'está lloviendo' – it's raining. Luna: Está lloviendo. That's a bit longer. Can I break it down? 'Está' and 'lloviendo.' Está lloviendo. Okay, I think I got it. Lucas: And for cloudy, we say 'está nublado.' Try that one. Luna: Está nublado. I can see that used a lot in spring. So we have six phrases now: hace sol, hace viento, hace frío, hace buen tiempo, está lloviendo, está nublado. Lucas: You've got them all. Let's put them in a little scene to make it stick. Imagine you're at a park, and the weather changes. You might say, 'Hace sol,' then later, 'Está nublado,' and then, 'Está lloviendo.' Luna: That's perfect. I can imagine that. And if it's really cold, I'd say 'Hace frío.' So all together: hace sol, está nublado, está lloviendo, hace frío. And if it's nice, 'hace buen tiempo.' Lucas: You just used all six in one breath. Great job. Let's practice them once more together. Repeat after me: hace sol. Luna: Hace sol. Lucas: Hace viento. Luna: Hace viento. Lucas: Hace frío. Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: Hace buen tiempo. Luna: Hace buen tiempo. Lucas: Está lloviendo. Luna: Está lloviendo. Lucas: Está nublado. Luna: Está nublado. Lucas: Now, let's do a quick check. Luna, if you look outside and see clouds, what do you say? Luna: I'd say 'Está nublado.' Lucas: And if it's sunny and warm? Luna: That would be 'Hace sol' or 'Hace buen tiempo.' Lucas: Perfect. And if rain is falling? Luna: Está lloviendo. Lucas: You've got it. These phrases are super useful for daily conversations. So next time you're chatting with a Spanish speaker about the weather, you'll know exactly what to say. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel more confident now. I'll definitely use these when I check the weather app in Spanish. Lucas: That's a great idea. Practice them until we meet again. Keep up the great work, and see you next time on Learn Spanish with Fexingo.
