Scientists just unveiled a jaw-dropping discovery: a brand new monkey species, the Colobus congoensis, or “Likweli,” found deep in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With striking black fur and vivid orange facial markings, this rare primate was first spotted in 2008 but only confirmed after a decade of research. Weighing about 15 pounds and thriving in the treetops of Lomami National Park, it’s one of just five new monkey species found in Africa in the last 75 years.
