- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Hello and welcome into the NFL
- 0:18Speaker 1: Network news room. My mom Maurice, and this is NFL
- 0:21Speaker 1: Now Week eight underway with the Ravens big win over
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Buccaneers. Will have much more on that game in
- 0:27Speaker 1: just a little bit. Plus David Long, the Titans star linebacker,
- 0:31Speaker 1: will join us a little bit later this hour. But
- 0:34Speaker 1: of course it is Friday, it is week eight. We
- 0:36Speaker 1: start with the injury news from around the league and
- 0:39Speaker 1: we bring in our Ian Rappaport. It is new right
- 0:42Speaker 1: now into the NFL Network news room. Fallout from last night,
- 0:46Speaker 1: in particular, we saw Shaq Barrett go down in that
- 0:49Speaker 1: game and the Buccaneers lost against the Ravens. What's the
- 0:51Speaker 1: latest on the buccaneer star pass rusher in Yeah, nothing
- 0:55Speaker 1: good here for the tam Baby Buccaneers and their star
- 0:58Speaker 1: pass rusher, Shack Barrett. He is now out for the season,
- 1:01Speaker 1: sources say, and he has torn his achilles, which you
- 1:05Speaker 1: know if you watch the game last night, you watched
- 1:06Speaker 1: the injury, it was apparent that it was something very
- 1:09Speaker 1: serious and very severe and significant. Leaves on a car
- 1:12Speaker 1: he could tell right away that this was not going
- 1:15Speaker 1: to be anything positive, and the fear immediately after the
- 1:17Speaker 1: game was that it was a torn achilles And you
- 1:20Speaker 1: know omar if they feel that based on the initial
- 1:23Speaker 1: examine is an achilles, almost always that is the case.
- 1:26Speaker 1: He had the MR this morning which confirmed Shack Barrett
- 1:29Speaker 1: now turns his attention to the season right so the
- 1:33Speaker 1: news is bad to worse for the Buccaneers on defense. Meanwhile,
- 1:37Speaker 1: another shack who we've hardly seen this year, a defensive
- 1:40Speaker 1: start for the Colts maybe coming back. What's the latest
- 1:43Speaker 1: on Shack Leonard? In shaqu Leonard the former Darius Leonard,
- 1:48Speaker 1: one of the best linebackers in the NFL, who was
- 1:50Speaker 1: battled a back injury, concussion, he broke his nose and
- 1:53Speaker 1: had surgery. A lot going on with Shack Leonard. He
- 1:57Speaker 1: is in fact expected to be back on the field
- 1:59Speaker 1: this Sunday. One of the best defenders, are one of
- 2:02Speaker 1: the best players in the entire organization. Having him on
- 2:05Speaker 1: a pitch account likely, but having him back because a
- 2:07Speaker 1: huge boost there and another one his status. We are
- 2:10Speaker 1: watching t J Watt. Remember he had the torn peck
- 2:14Speaker 1: muscle but not the torn peck tendon, so about a
- 2:17Speaker 1: six week rehab. Also had a niece go somewhere in there,
- 2:21Speaker 1: got an issue done that he had needed to deal with.
- 2:23Speaker 1: There is actually a chance he's back this week and
- 2:26Speaker 1: everyone's expecting him to come back after the body. Sounded
- 2:28Speaker 1: like at practice this week is first back. He felt
- 2:31Speaker 1: pretty good, So I would keep an eye on that one.
- 2:33Speaker 1: For t J. Watt, Yeah, superstar that could be on
- 2:36Speaker 1: his way. Another superstar we're keeping an eye on is
- 2:38Speaker 1: Davante Adams of the Raiders. What's the latest on him?
- 2:43Speaker 1: That faced a huge game this week and Davante Adams
- 2:47Speaker 1: didn't practice it all this week dealing with an illness.
- 2:50Speaker 1: As Josh McDaniels, the head coach explained, really kind of
- 2:52Speaker 1: a bug going through the team. Seems like after Tivon
- 2:55Speaker 1: the injury, poor with that, but back at practice today
- 2:58Speaker 1: that is a very good sign. It sounds like the
- 3:00Speaker 1: belief is that most of the illness is kind of
- 3:03Speaker 1: through the team, which probably not very pleasant on the
- 3:06Speaker 1: front end, But the fact that a lot of these
- 3:07Speaker 1: guys are gonna be available for the game, if not
- 3:10Speaker 1: all of these guys, is a good sign. So we'll
- 3:12Speaker 1: be monitoring these status of Davante Adams, but it does
- 3:15Speaker 1: sound like optimism that they'll be able to play this weekend.
- 3:19Speaker 1: One of the other status is we are watching the
- 3:21Speaker 1: Green Bay Packers and their office Christian Watson. They're young,
- 3:24Speaker 1: really talented receiver miss the last couple of games deal
- 3:27Speaker 1: with the hamstring injury. Mallowford described himself as cautiously optimistic
- 3:32Speaker 1: that he would be able to be out in the field.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That is very good. And you know there's one thing
- 3:36Speaker 1: that Aaron Rodgers needs more weapons. That would be a
- 3:39Speaker 1: good one there. Meanwhile, Alan Wizard, another one of their
- 3:42Speaker 1: standout receivers, dealing with a shoulder injury. Unlikely to play
- 3:45Speaker 1: this week, but it should be a short absence. Expect
- 3:48Speaker 1: him back on the field. I would say after this game,
- 3:50Speaker 1: big showdown on Sunday night football. Ian, what are you
- 3:52Speaker 1: gonna be for Halloween? We have multiple parties in situations.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So I'm gonna be a character Paul Red's character from
- 3:59Speaker 1: Cluis and one. I'm gonna be a character from Varsity
- 4:04Speaker 1: Blues that another I don't want. All right, I will
- 4:09Speaker 1: be me. I would be I would be Billy Bob,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but still be the same movie. Yes, yeah, there you go.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Thank you. Ian rapping port. Can't wait to see those
- 4:16Speaker 1: pictures on Instagram. Meanwhile, last night the Buccaneers and the
- 4:20Speaker 1: Ravens Lamar Jackson, a couple of former m vps going
- 4:23Speaker 1: head to head against Tom Brady. Mark Andrews banged up
- 4:26Speaker 1: in this one, he would leave the game. Note problem
- 4:28Speaker 1: because the rookie Isaiah Likely filling in admirably gets his
- 4:33Speaker 1: feet in bounds and gets the approval from Andrew's on
- 4:36Speaker 1: the sideline. Later in the game, Bucks trying to stay
- 4:39Speaker 1: in at fourth quarter rally fourth and goal from the
- 4:41Speaker 1: three false start, it would kick a field goal and
- 4:44Speaker 1: eventually lose the game, final score of twenty seven to two.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Buccaneers frustrated now at three and five. Meanwhile, the Ravens
- 4:53Speaker 1: five and three and surging in the a f C
- 4:56Speaker 1: North are Sarah Walsh with Lamar Jackson after the game. Lamar,
- 5:01Speaker 1: a very short week, a tough game on the road.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You get your first back to back wins of this season.
- 5:06Speaker 1: What does this mean to this team? When you guys
- 5:08Speaker 1: have talked about wanting consistency, I mean it means a
- 5:10Speaker 1: lot for us um offense on our team. We've been
- 5:14Speaker 1: talking about it a lot. Just going out there, finish
- 5:16Speaker 1: your fourth quarter, finishing in the red zone. We gotta
- 5:18Speaker 1: stopped wanting the red zone, but I feel like we
- 5:20Speaker 1: could have still made something happened. Um, we just gotta
- 5:22Speaker 1: keep stacking because that's how I go to keep stacking
- 5:24Speaker 1: each and every week. Not when one lose one and
- 5:26Speaker 1: we finally got it done, but just keep it going.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I want to ask you about Mark Andrews. You lose
- 5:31Speaker 1: your Pro Bowl tight end and then in steps Isaiah
- 5:34Speaker 1: Likely a rookie comes up with his first NFL touchdown
- 5:37Speaker 1: when you guys need it. What was that play? Like? Man?
- 5:42Speaker 1: He found a way to get open. You know, um
- 5:44Speaker 1: they um we called the man play. You know they
- 5:46Speaker 1: pop zone on us. Um office and I did a
- 5:48Speaker 1: great job. Gave me home the extra time. He find
- 5:51Speaker 1: a way to get open. That's just where it was.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And lastly, talk about what your defense did today coming
- 5:56Speaker 1: into Raymond James shutting down Tom Brady, who you called
- 6:00Speaker 1: the goat this week. They came up with a big step,
- 6:02Speaker 1: not just meet. Everybody called him to go you know, Um,
- 6:04Speaker 1: he just of that name. You know, he got some
- 6:06Speaker 1: super both so that's why we all called him that.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Ever since, how to the kid but our deeper stuffed
- 6:10Speaker 1: up um women need him today did a terrific jaw.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But like I said, I still want to sc more
- 6:14Speaker 1: points with those guys. You know, hass off to the
- 6:16Speaker 1: defense him feel going all right? Thank you, Sarah, thank you.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Lamar back with us now, Judy, Mark and Jim. Lots
- 6:23Speaker 1: of chew on in this game, and I think because
- 6:25Speaker 1: of the nature of the NFC South, both of these
- 6:27Speaker 1: teams will continue to be relevant throughout the season. Judy,
- 6:30Speaker 1: what were your impressions of last night? Well, my biggest
- 6:34Speaker 1: takeaway is that the box offense is broken right now.
- 6:38Speaker 1: We could spend the entire segment just talking about how
- 6:40Speaker 1: they've completely abandoned any attempt to run the ball. They
- 6:43Speaker 1: ran the ball at least three times in the second
- 6:46Speaker 1: half and it worked in the first drive they were running,
- 6:48Speaker 1: they had good balance, and then they went away from
- 6:51Speaker 1: it completely. But it goes beyond that. They are struggling
- 6:54Speaker 1: to maintain drives. They're not converting on third down, lots
- 6:57Speaker 1: of punts. I think it was five drives in a
- 6:59Speaker 1: row that ended with punts, and then they're struggling even
- 7:01Speaker 1: when they do get into the red zone. Three times
- 7:04Speaker 1: last night, they were inside the Ravens fifteen yard line
- 7:07Speaker 1: and had to settle for field goals. And then finally,
- 7:10Speaker 1: even Tom Brady and the receivers are clearly not on
- 7:13Speaker 1: the same page, whether it's miscommunication or in some cases
- 7:17Speaker 1: Brady just missed on throw. Everything looks off about this offense,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and they've got time now until the next game, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: certainly I am looking to see if they do something
- 7:27Speaker 1: dramatic to try to shake things up on this offense. Yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 1: my biggest takeaway there is watch out for the Ravens
- 7:34Speaker 1: the rest of the season, and Judy mentioned the Bucks
- 7:36Speaker 1: are struggling, but the Ravens were impressive on both sides
- 7:39Speaker 1: of the ball and got back to their style of
- 7:41Speaker 1: football wildly inconsistent this year with win one, lose one
- 7:45Speaker 1: and of course the dramatic three losses when they were
- 7:48Speaker 1: leading by ten points in each of those games. But
- 7:51Speaker 1: as Lobar said, when you look at this schedule, the
- 7:54Speaker 1: rest of the way they can stack. They can stack
- 7:56Speaker 1: some win the easiest strengths to schedule the rest of
- 7:59Speaker 1: the way. The only team they have left on their
- 8:01Speaker 1: schedule that has a winning record right now is Cincinnati,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and that's the very last game of the seasons. So
- 8:07Speaker 1: this Baltimore team, who looked like all was lost because
- 8:10Speaker 1: of how bad they looked at times blowing those leaves
- 8:13Speaker 1: are leading the North that they came to up the
- 8:14Speaker 1: North right now. And if they run this string together,
- 8:17Speaker 1: they could get to about thirteen or so wins and
- 8:20Speaker 1: be right up there with Buffalo and k C. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: it looked like all was after Baltimore, but watch out
- 8:25Speaker 1: the rest of the season. These guys could be right
- 8:26Speaker 1: in the mix, and the schedule doing them favors, not
- 8:29Speaker 1: only with the opponent's strength of schedule, but now they
- 8:31Speaker 1: have the mini buy extended because they don't play until
- 8:34Speaker 1: Monday Night Football in week nine. Then they have their
- 8:37Speaker 1: actual buy in week ten. So an opportunity here for
- 8:40Speaker 1: the Ravens to get healthy. Jim, what stood out to
- 8:43Speaker 1: you last night? You know, Omar, the players have a
- 8:46Speaker 1: say as saying, and it's keep the main thing, the
- 8:49Speaker 1: main thing. And for the Ravens, I would say, offensively,
- 8:52Speaker 1: keep the main thing the main thing. That means rely
- 8:54Speaker 1: on your running game. They are not a team or
- 8:56Speaker 1: an offense that is a customer throwing the ball thirty
- 9:00Speaker 1: times in the first half and only rushing it seven
- 9:02Speaker 1: times when they got back to what they do best
- 9:04Speaker 1: in a second half, that's when they were most effective.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So sometimes coaches tend to overthink things and to try
- 9:11Speaker 1: and out scheme others. I would just say to Greg
- 9:13Speaker 1: Roman and to the Ravens, keep the main thing, the
- 9:16Speaker 1: main thing, run the football. And the Buccaneers running the
- 9:19Speaker 1: ball historically bad so far this season. Just forty four
- 9:23Speaker 1: yards last night. Alluding to Judy's point there so offense
- 9:27Speaker 1: not just on Tom Brady. As Mike Evans said a
- 9:30Speaker 1: little earlier in the show, a lot of work to
- 9:31Speaker 1: do to them to remain in the NFC South race. Judy, Mark, Jim,
- 9:35Speaker 1: thank you all very much. Meanwhile, next up on the
- 9:37Speaker 1: week eight docket, we go to London for the Jaguars
- 9:42Speaker 1: and the Broncos. Trevor Lawrence and his young career, already
- 9:46Speaker 1: playing for the second time, of course, had a big
- 9:48Speaker 1: game last year in his rookie season. Let's hear from
- 9:51Speaker 1: Doug Peterson as the Jaguars have made their way to
- 9:54Speaker 1: the UK, and it's really opportunity for a lot of
- 9:56Speaker 1: these players who have never traveled out of the United
- 9:58Speaker 1: States to experience a different culture, a different world, whole
- 10:02Speaker 1: whole different. Um. You know, life s dial and and
- 10:05Speaker 1: and it's positives good, you know, and it's I encourage
- 10:09Speaker 1: them to take advantage even tonight or tomorrow afternoon to
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, experience that. Honestly too as players, we really
- 10:15Speaker 1: enjoy it. You know, the flight isn't always the easiest
- 10:19Speaker 1: over here, with the time change and everything, but besides that,
- 10:22Speaker 1: we really enjoy playing over here. The fans are awesome.
- 10:25Speaker 1: They always they always packed the stadium, UM come out,
- 10:28Speaker 1: supports school seeing and saw the different jerseys all now
- 10:30Speaker 1: a lot of Jags fans over here. Like you said,
- 10:32Speaker 1: we've been playing over here for a while, so you know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I think we really enjoy it. Um. And then obviously
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know last year, I've only played one game here
- 10:39Speaker 1: and one and I want to know, so hopefully go
- 10:41Speaker 1: to and oh this year that's the plan. And uh yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I mean we just we enjoy being over here, Trevor
- 10:46Speaker 1: Lawrence want to know in London, so too is Russell
- 10:49Speaker 1: Wilson had a big game a few years ago when
- 10:52Speaker 1: he and the Seahawks went to London. Now they're as
- 10:54Speaker 1: a member of the Denver Broncos. Are Richard Graves is
- 10:58Speaker 1: in London and caught up with superstar Corner Patrick's or Tan. Okay,
- 11:03Speaker 1: well I've got pass it down from Broncos with me.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You guys got into London on Tuesday morning, you had
- 11:08Speaker 1: a few days to get acclimated. How's preparation gone this week?
- 11:11Speaker 1: Preparations were going great. Um obviously, Um, the time changed
- 11:15Speaker 1: a little bit. We had to get used to that schedule.
- 11:17Speaker 1: But we're preparing very well. Uh, getting prepared um to
- 11:21Speaker 1: the fullers, you know, just ready for Sunday. How great
- 11:24Speaker 1: is the sense of urgency around this team? Because you
- 11:26Speaker 1: came into the season with high expectations. It hasn't gone
- 11:29Speaker 1: according to planners you would like to this point. Um,
- 11:32Speaker 1: you know, the urgency has stepped it up a little bit.
- 11:34Speaker 1: We obviously know what's at stake. Um, we play another
- 11:37Speaker 1: good team in Jacksonville. Um, so the only thing in
- 11:40Speaker 1: our minds is coming out is finding a way to
- 11:43Speaker 1: get get a victory. So you know we're preparing like
- 11:46Speaker 1: it and we focused like it. So and for you personally,
- 11:48Speaker 1: how are you finding the second season in the NFL?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Now you have four interceptions in your Rockie season on
- 11:53Speaker 1: this year. But I heard Doug Peterson asked about you
- 11:55Speaker 1: earlier the week and the question was Pats the town
- 11:58Speaker 1: the top five corner back. He said, no, No, Pats
- 12:00Speaker 1: Tourn's top two. Um, obviously that's great to hear it,
- 12:04Speaker 1: but um, it's so much more I can improve on
- 12:06Speaker 1: generally as a player. Um, you know, little little things
- 12:11Speaker 1: I need to tune up, rEFInd my craft. But when
- 12:14Speaker 1: you um get noticed like that across the league, especially
- 12:17Speaker 1: from coaches, you know, it's a great feeling. As a
- 12:19Speaker 1: defensive unit, second overall in the NFL, third in scoring,
- 12:23Speaker 1: fourth with twenty two sacks coming into this week, do
- 12:25Speaker 1: you take on a great responsibility and this team as
- 12:27Speaker 1: a unit. Yeah, you know, we we always set ourselves
- 12:31Speaker 1: to high standard defensively. We come in with the same
- 12:35Speaker 1: work ethic day in and day out, Um, making sure
- 12:38Speaker 1: that we prepare the right way. So when the Sunday come, um,
- 12:42Speaker 1: you know, we play at a high level, at a
- 12:43Speaker 1: fast level. And so far this season that's what we've
- 12:46Speaker 1: been doing. Um, playing great football around as a unit.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You know. Just the camaraderie um that we have with
- 12:52Speaker 1: one another. I think it's a great thing going on.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And just finally, Russell Wilson was at full going practice today.
- 12:57Speaker 1: How much reduced is that to everyone in this team?
- 12:59Speaker 1: It was great when you have your guy back back
- 13:01Speaker 1: back there, um running the offense. UM. Obviously he's a
- 13:05Speaker 1: tremendous leader. But when you got that energy that he
- 13:07Speaker 1: brings to the team, Um, that's type of poise, that's
- 13:10Speaker 1: type of leadership that he brings around the offense. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 1: it brings great things around the team. So very excited. Okay,
- 13:16Speaker 1: Well Sunday. Thank you Richard, thank you Patrick. They are
- 13:21Speaker 1: ready to roll in London. Russell Wilson versus Trevor Lawrence
- 13:25Speaker 1: six thirty a m That one on ESPN Plus exclusively
- 13:30Speaker 1: figure out how to get that channel and by SEC
- 13:34Speaker 1: Eastern on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, David Long, junior Titans linebacker,
- 13:40Speaker 1: leader in the team and tackles and interceptions. He'll join
- 13:43Speaker 1: us next ahead of their matchup with the Houston Texans.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Could be a scary one against Houston. The way Tennessee
- 13:51Speaker 1: is playing right now, I just want to be a
- 13:56Speaker 1: big scream. The Tennessee Titans putting their four and two
- 14:02Speaker 1: record on the line against the Houston Texans this weekend,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and Mike Vrabel just saying Ryan Tannehill is questionable to
- 14:09Speaker 1: play in Houston this weekend because of that ankle injury
- 14:13Speaker 1: that he suffered on Sunday and that win against the Colts. Again,
- 14:16Speaker 1: Ryan Tannehill questionable to play against Houston this Sunday. According
- 14:20Speaker 1: to Mike Vrabel, it is new right now into NFL Network,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and right now into NFL Network, we are proud to
- 14:26Speaker 1: welcome David Long. There you see some of his highlights
- 14:30Speaker 1: this season. He is leading Tennessee in tackles. He has
- 14:33Speaker 1: a couple of interceptions, leading the team there. Back to
- 14:36Speaker 1: back games with picks David Long. Our guests right now
- 14:40Speaker 1: on NFL Network. Gear number four for David Long. Great
- 14:43Speaker 1: season so far. How's it all come together for you
- 14:46Speaker 1: this year? I mean it's it's coming together like me
- 14:49Speaker 1: and my teammates talked about UM as far as like
- 14:52Speaker 1: us working together, UM, all these sides of the ball
- 14:54Speaker 1: and just playing with energy off each other. My thing
- 14:57Speaker 1: is gonna Well, obviously you've won four straight after that
- 15:00Speaker 1: oh and two star you were hammered against Buffalo, but
- 15:03Speaker 1: obviously you've righted the ship since then. What's changed for you, guys?
- 15:08Speaker 1: I think this our whole mindset and just getting back
- 15:11Speaker 1: to our our core values and effort and finish you
- 15:14Speaker 1: no finished lower than the guy with the ball. All
- 15:17Speaker 1: these stage that we've built into our our culture. You know. Um,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think we've got everybody on the same page now,
- 15:22Speaker 1: even the was that's not out there playing right away. UM,
- 15:24Speaker 1: you know, just being available when your name is called. Um,
- 15:27Speaker 1: you know it's hard to be the team like that. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 1: you guys have obviously shown a lot of toughness. We
- 15:32Speaker 1: saw Danny Hill in that game on Sunday show toughness.
- 15:34Speaker 1: We also saw Ben Jones show toughness order this season.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Mike Able one of the tougher players when he played,
- 15:40Speaker 1: but we saw that moment after the game where he
- 15:43Speaker 1: greeted Ben Jones and went viral on social media where
- 15:46Speaker 1: it was very emotional. What sort of side do you
- 15:49Speaker 1: see from Mike very well behind the scenes and what's
- 15:51Speaker 1: it like to play for a guy like that? Um,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I would say it's easy. It's easy to play for
- 15:56Speaker 1: a guy you know that that shows that he he
- 15:58Speaker 1: cares about his players and also understanding, you know, because
- 16:01Speaker 1: he's been out there, he's played, um, you know this
- 16:04Speaker 1: game as well, so uh, being able to you know,
- 16:07Speaker 1: to playful coach like that. You know that that the
- 16:09Speaker 1: shows that he cares and you know and understand, you
- 16:11Speaker 1: know what his players are going through. You know, it's
- 16:12Speaker 1: easy to go out there and give you all all
- 16:14Speaker 1: even when it doesn't you know, feel like or your
- 16:16Speaker 1: body doesn't feel like. You know, you can keep going. Um,
- 16:19Speaker 1: you can just remember who you're planning for and stuff
- 16:20Speaker 1: like that. You know, it's just easy to keep stepping
- 16:23Speaker 1: up and making plays. And since Mike Vrabel has been
- 16:25Speaker 1: the head coach there, since you've been remember organization, you
- 16:29Speaker 1: guys make contenders. Really every year, David, what's it gonna
- 16:32Speaker 1: take to get over the hump and get to the
- 16:33Speaker 1: Super Bowl? UM? I think just understanding grounded, you know, uh,
- 16:38Speaker 1: not even listening to the outside noise. You know, because
- 16:40Speaker 1: coming into every season, we're not the most talked about
- 16:43Speaker 1: team and stuff like that, but um, it always pans
- 16:46Speaker 1: out good for us at the end of the season.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And it's about you know us, uh, just keeping that
- 16:51Speaker 1: that ball rolling, UM and us standing together as a
- 16:53Speaker 1: team and as a as an organization. Ummu's just to
- 16:56Speaker 1: get over the hump. You know, we I think we
- 16:57Speaker 1: know what type of team we have, know what type
- 17:00Speaker 1: of um coaching we have here, and I think that
- 17:02Speaker 1: would take us a long way. We heard Ryan hannah
- 17:05Speaker 1: Hill become questionable with that ankle injury, like Verabel just
- 17:08Speaker 1: anounced a little bit before. If more pressure has to
- 17:11Speaker 1: fall on you guys defensively, how are you prepared to
- 17:13Speaker 1: handle that? Um? Prepared to handle the wheel? I think
- 17:17Speaker 1: we've been in a couple of situations where back against
- 17:20Speaker 1: the wall, we have to make some plays, you know. Um,
- 17:23Speaker 1: But it's gonna be like that. This is the league. Um,
- 17:25Speaker 1: somebody some days not gonna play the best. We're gonna
- 17:28Speaker 1: have to go out there and get a couple of
- 17:29Speaker 1: stocks in the ris and stuff like that, and then
- 17:32Speaker 1: some some days gonna be not our best. No officers
- 17:34Speaker 1: is gonna have to help us out. You know. It's
- 17:36Speaker 1: just being unselfish, you know, being just a great teammate,
- 17:40Speaker 1: you know, and just being ready to go out there
- 17:41Speaker 1: in a battle for your brothers. Man, Um, that's easy
- 17:43Speaker 1: to do. We've got a team, right, dudes. Yeah, the
- 17:46Speaker 1: Texans have Damian Pierce rookie running back. Should be an
- 17:49Speaker 1: intriguing matchup. You're David Long Jr. Your dad was an
- 17:52Speaker 1: accomplished professional boxer. I know you've trained with him. How
- 17:55Speaker 1: is maybe some of those boxing skills translated to your
- 17:58Speaker 1: football game? UM, I think it translates a lot, as
- 18:01Speaker 1: far as footwork and um, handout coordination. UM, as far
- 18:05Speaker 1: as like the overall toughness you know, just you know,
- 18:07Speaker 1: taking a punch, you know, being able to keep throwing them,
- 18:10Speaker 1: or you know, um, being in the ring You're so tired,
- 18:13Speaker 1: it's hard to keep your hands up, you know, you
- 18:14Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. UM, So just all about that mindset,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know, M that durability and just being being able
- 18:20Speaker 1: you know, to withstand you so much. And folks that
- 18:23Speaker 1: might know your name because David Long Jr. A Rams corner,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you guys came out in the same draft class. Do
- 18:29Speaker 1: you have any interesting stories where some guys might have
- 18:32Speaker 1: thought that it was the other David Long that they
- 18:34Speaker 1: were expecting to meet, any anything like that. Um, yes,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I do. UM. I think I was. I was um
- 18:41Speaker 1: l A for the Super Bowl. You know that's where
- 18:43Speaker 1: the Rams are right and UM, I had a little
- 18:44Speaker 1: autographs signing and it was it was telling me it
- 18:47Speaker 1: was like no, keep going there, going to something like
- 18:50Speaker 1: you got the wrong person. This this is the wrong problem.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I ended up signing the ball. But it's been a
- 18:55Speaker 1: couple of times even on social media where I've gotten
- 18:58Speaker 1: some crazy messages. I'm like, yea'all the wrong pig alone.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But you know, we we came in. We we both
- 19:04Speaker 1: at the Spurs and also that's you guys have both
- 19:08Speaker 1: been playing really well. In fact, had interceptions across the
- 19:10Speaker 1: street last year at SOFI Stadium in the same building.
- 19:14Speaker 1: David Logs, thank you so much for joining us. Good
- 19:16Speaker 1: luck against Houston and have fun this Halloween weekend. Yes,
- 19:21Speaker 1: thank you very much. Alright. Staying in Texas, the Dallas
- 19:26Speaker 1: Cowboys hosting the Chicago Bears. The Bears coming off that
- 19:30Speaker 1: big win against the Patriots on Monday night, looking to
- 19:33Speaker 1: continue their winning ways against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
- 19:38Speaker 1: There you see Justin Fields coming in for much more
- 19:42Speaker 1: on that matchup. We welcome back Jane Later and Mark
- 19:45Speaker 1: Ross and Jane. When you look at Justin Fields, they
- 19:48Speaker 1: had them running the football a lot more on Monday
- 19:51Speaker 1: with design runs and his production obviously followed. How are
- 19:55Speaker 1: the Cowboys preparing to deal with Justin Fields? Well, they
- 20:00Speaker 1: knew the challenge they had in front of them, and
- 20:01Speaker 1: we'll talk about some of the other challenges when you
- 20:03Speaker 1: look at some of the runners on the s actual
- 20:05Speaker 1: at the end of the season. But they went out
- 20:07Speaker 1: and they made a trade. They picked up Jonathan Hankins,
- 20:09Speaker 1: who comes in here, and it was Mike McCarthy who
- 20:12Speaker 1: said this week that he was particularly impressive and Thursday's
- 20:15Speaker 1: first padded practice, so he's expected to play and he's
- 20:17Speaker 1: going to give him a little bit more size in
- 20:20Speaker 1: the middle of that defensive line. But against the run,
- 20:23Speaker 1: the Cowboys of challenge. You know, they have the sixth
- 20:24Speaker 1: best defense in the league, but one of the twenty,
- 20:27Speaker 1: the ranked twenty as it relates to slowing down the run.
- 20:30Speaker 1: We saw what Jalen Hurts did to them when they
- 20:32Speaker 1: played against him. And the Eagles. We can talk about
- 20:35Speaker 1: Daniel jones Um and then this week is not gonna
- 20:38Speaker 1: get an easier justin fields, particularly mobile on his feet,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but it's also a three headed monster when you talk
- 20:42Speaker 1: about the league's number one rushing attack combined with Khalil
- 20:46Speaker 1: Herbert and of course David Montgomery, and I thought it
- 20:48Speaker 1: was interesting this just talks to who Micah Parsons is
- 20:50Speaker 1: as a player. After that Eagles game. He said he
- 20:52Speaker 1: went to Dan Quinn and he said, I need to
- 20:55Speaker 1: make sure this doesn't happen to me again. In other words,
- 20:57Speaker 1: it felt like they were continuously coming at Micah Parsons. Well,
- 21:00Speaker 1: Parsons and Fields are very close friends, their fierce competitors.
- 21:04Speaker 1: He talked about speed on speed. They've rushed in the
- 21:07Speaker 1: forty times multiple times, and he points out that he's
- 21:10Speaker 1: beat them. But this is going to be an intriguing
- 21:12Speaker 1: matchup to watch. The Cowboys, like I said, have got
- 21:14Speaker 1: to start slowing down the run because if you look
- 21:16Speaker 1: ahead of the schedule, they've got Dalvin Cook coming up,
- 21:18Speaker 1: They've got Jonathan Taylor and they've got Derreck Henry and
- 21:21Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts and Daniel Jones again, so this is an
- 21:24Speaker 1: area that they know they have to address and they're
- 21:26Speaker 1: at least trying to do it with that trade. And
- 21:28Speaker 1: I am interesting your thoughts, Mark, as we talk about
- 21:31Speaker 1: this Cowboys run d and the addition of Jonathan Haigkins. Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 1: big Hank, one of my Giants draft picks. They're back
- 21:38Speaker 1: in the day, so happy for him with a fresh
- 21:40Speaker 1: start there with the Cowboys. Yeah, that's the first that's
- 21:43Speaker 1: the first area when you recognize a problem that you
- 21:46Speaker 1: have on your team and then you try to do
- 21:48Speaker 1: something to fix it and not just act like, well,
- 21:50Speaker 1: we'll just scheme it up and we'll work harder during
- 21:52Speaker 1: the week. They actually tried to address that. The good
- 21:55Speaker 1: thing about the Cowboys, as you mentioned about the Chicago
- 22:00Speaker 1: offense and Justin Fields, where they finally designed plays for
- 22:03Speaker 1: Justin Fields a run the ball wasn't just Justin Fields
- 22:06Speaker 1: in panic mode because he's getting rush by the pass
- 22:09Speaker 1: rush and he had to take off. For the Bears
- 22:11Speaker 1: finally designed players for Justin Fields to run well. Now
- 22:14Speaker 1: the Cowboys don't have that that they can game plan
- 22:17Speaker 1: for that because they've seen it on tape and they
- 22:19Speaker 1: know what Justin Fields does well as far as the
- 22:22Speaker 1: design runs. Now, so with the addition of Hankins and
- 22:25Speaker 1: then also, okay, we've got to do better game planning
- 22:28Speaker 1: because we have been beat by athletic quarterbacks in the
- 22:31Speaker 1: run game. As you mention Daniel Jones, well, now that's
- 22:34Speaker 1: on Dan Quinn and that defensive staff to say, okay,
- 22:37Speaker 1: we need to do better game planning during the week
- 22:39Speaker 1: and preparation to stop these runs, particularly those zone retype runs. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: It could be especially critical because Justin Fields leads the
- 22:47Speaker 1: league in sacks taken and the Cowboys lead the league
- 22:51Speaker 1: in sacks on defense, So getting the Bears run game
- 22:53Speaker 1: obviously key to limiting that Dallas front. Jane Mark, thank
- 22:57Speaker 1: you both very much. Meanwhile, Gino Smith continues his former
- 23:02Speaker 1: team tour big win over the Chargers last weekend. One
- 23:04Speaker 1: of his former teams goes up against another one of
- 23:07Speaker 1: his former teams, the New York Giants this weekend in Seattle.
- 23:11Speaker 1: A couple of surprising teams this year, the Seahawks leading
- 23:15Speaker 1: the NFC West and the Giants six and one, just
- 23:19Speaker 1: one game behind the Eagles in the lost column in
- 23:21Speaker 1: the NFC East. For more on this showdown, we welcome
- 23:24Speaker 1: back our Judy Batista. Both these teams have dynamic running games, Judy,
- 23:29Speaker 1: but both with poorest run defenses. What's the plan here
- 23:33Speaker 1: on Sunday, Well, I'm going to keep an eye on
- 23:36Speaker 1: the Seattle run defense because it is among the worst
- 23:40Speaker 1: in the league, and they were eating up a few
- 23:42Speaker 1: weeks ago by the New Orleans Saints two headed running
- 23:45Speaker 1: attack with Alvin Kamara and Tyson Hill. The Giants have
- 23:48Speaker 1: something like that going right now. We know of course
- 23:50Speaker 1: about s Kwon Barkley, but in recent weeks the designed
- 23:53Speaker 1: runs for Daniel Jones have made him a weapon with
- 23:57Speaker 1: his legs, so keep an eye on that. And a
- 23:59Speaker 1: stat from next Gen Stats that I thought was really interesting.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Seattle struggles with the run, whether they put extra men
- 24:05Speaker 1: in the box or not, and they are having a
- 24:08Speaker 1: particular problem with runs outside the tackles. Say, Quon Berkeley
- 24:12Speaker 1: is second in the league runs outside the tackles, so
- 24:15Speaker 1: that is certainly a matchup to watch. And then on
- 24:18Speaker 1: the other side of the ball you mentioned it, Geno
- 24:20Speaker 1: Smith is having an absolute career season. He leads the
- 24:24Speaker 1: league in completion percentage incredibly um He especially thrives when
- 24:30Speaker 1: he is facing man to man coverage. The Giants play
- 24:33Speaker 1: man to man coverage almost fifty percent of the time.
- 24:36Speaker 1: That is among the highest in the league. So we
- 24:38Speaker 1: will see if Gino can carve up the Giants defense
- 24:42Speaker 1: s he had so many defenses season. Yeah, let Gino
- 24:45Speaker 1: keep cooking. The Seahawks roll in their first place in
- 24:48Speaker 1: the NFC West. Juda Bautista, thank you very much. Still
- 24:53Speaker 1: to come, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers trying to get
- 24:56Speaker 1: back on track they're doing in one of the more
- 24:59Speaker 1: hostile environments in the NFL. Sunday Night in Buffalo, Bills
- 25:05Speaker 1: mafia will be going crazy. How do they get things
- 25:08Speaker 1: go on? We'll answer those questions when NFL now continues.
- 25:18Speaker 1: This is one of those I think we all had
- 25:19Speaker 1: circled on our calendar when the NFL schedule came out
- 25:22Speaker 1: blast Spring. The Packers Bills Sunday Night Football, two time
- 25:26Speaker 1: reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers versus a leading candidate to win
- 25:30Speaker 1: this year in Josh Allen. But of course the Packers
- 25:34Speaker 1: have been struggling looking to get things back on track
- 25:36Speaker 1: against Buffalo and at top ranked defense led again by
- 25:40Speaker 1: Leslie Fraser. For more on that Bill's defense, let's welcome
- 25:44Speaker 1: back Mark Ross and Jim Trotter. Jim, what's been the
- 25:48Speaker 1: secret to the Bills success led by Frasier? Well, it
- 25:51Speaker 1: is Leslie Fraser, who is a leader of men and
- 25:54Speaker 1: a tremendous coach. Look when we talk about this defense,
- 25:57Speaker 1: it gets overshadowed at times by Josh Allen in this offense,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but they're not just number one in total defense, their
- 26:03Speaker 1: number one against the rust, their number one an interception rate,
- 26:06Speaker 1: their number one in points against. And remember they've done
- 26:09Speaker 1: this now without their complete secondary Tradevious White has been
- 26:12Speaker 1: out um coming off that injury last season. Micah Hyde
- 26:17Speaker 1: is out for the year now with his injury. So
- 26:19Speaker 1: for Leslie Praiser to keep this together and keep them
- 26:22Speaker 1: playing the way that they are, he deserves a lot
- 26:24Speaker 1: of credit. He should be on the list of people
- 26:27Speaker 1: who will be interviewed for head coaching jobs, and in fact,
- 26:29Speaker 1: in my opinion, he should get a head coaching job
- 26:32Speaker 1: that comes up. So while we're enamored with the quarterbacks,
- 26:35Speaker 1: that's not news focus of one of the elements that
- 26:37Speaker 1: has made Buffalo so successful this season, and that is
- 26:40Speaker 1: that deepense. Omar Yeah, Leslie Fraser certainly a key to
- 26:43Speaker 1: the bills sustained success during the Sean McDermott era and
- 26:47Speaker 1: that five record. They're coming off a bite, so theoretically
- 26:50Speaker 1: they're as healthy as they've been all season long. Certainly
- 26:53Speaker 1: a tough test for the Green Bay Packers. Mark Aaron
- 26:56Speaker 1: Rodgers has certainly been outspoken this past week about everybody's
- 27:00Speaker 1: need to elevate their play. What have you seen from
- 27:03Speaker 1: this Packers offense? Well, that's interesting with Aaron Rodgers, those
- 27:07Speaker 1: comments he talked about everybody else, but didn't look at
- 27:09Speaker 1: itself and say, man, I got to play better. And
- 27:12Speaker 1: that's just kind of been the the issue with the
- 27:14Speaker 1: Packers with me on and off the field. So the
- 27:17Speaker 1: off the field, it's been tons of distractions, much like
- 27:19Speaker 1: what's going on with Tom Brady and Tampa Bay with
- 27:22Speaker 1: a lot of off field distractions that may affect the
- 27:25Speaker 1: preparation and the continuity on the field. I see the
- 27:27Speaker 1: same thing with Green Bay. It's been well chronicled. We
- 27:30Speaker 1: talked about it every day with the distractions with Aaron
- 27:32Speaker 1: Rodgers off the field. Okay, now go get on the
- 27:35Speaker 1: field and get on the same page with everybody. It's
- 27:37Speaker 1: just not that easy for a team. The best teams
- 27:39Speaker 1: I've been on, the winning teams, everybody has been on
- 27:42Speaker 1: the same page. Then you look at on the field
- 27:45Speaker 1: and Aaron Rodgers just isn't the same sort of quarterback
- 27:49Speaker 1: as he once was. Father time gets everybody who talked
- 27:51Speaker 1: about this with Brady, with Matt Ryan, it catches up
- 27:54Speaker 1: to everybody he's not the same. Then you have to
- 27:56Speaker 1: look at the Davante Adams factor, where DeVante is not
- 27:59Speaker 1: there anymore, doesn't have his number one security blanket and
- 28:02Speaker 1: then the guys that replacing him. There really isn't anybody.
- 28:04Speaker 1: You look at that Green Bay offen and say we're
- 28:06Speaker 1: scared of them and the receiving group and Lazard might
- 28:08Speaker 1: be out this weekend. Aaron Jones is their best player,
- 28:10Speaker 1: the running back. They can't get the run game going
- 28:13Speaker 1: because everybody just plans to stop that because there's no
- 28:16Speaker 1: threat in the past games. So a lot of different
- 28:18Speaker 1: issues there with Green Bay's offense. Didn't even get to box.
- 28:20Speaker 1: The r is injury and he's not the same, so
- 28:23Speaker 1: this could get a little bit ugly there in the
- 28:25Speaker 1: Orchard Park this weekend. Omar and Matt Lafleur saying that
- 28:27Speaker 1: the David bo R injury will be something they'll have
- 28:29Speaker 1: to deal with throughout the rest of the season, and
- 28:32Speaker 1: that one of those stats that was rolling on the
- 28:33Speaker 1: bottom of the screen while you were talking Mark really
- 28:35Speaker 1: stood out to me. Aaron Rodgers has yet to have
- 28:38Speaker 1: a three hundred yard passing game or a three touchdown
- 28:42Speaker 1: game so far this season, certainly speaking to those issues
- 28:45Speaker 1: the Packers are having on offense. Mark and Jim thank
- 28:48Speaker 1: you both very much. NFL Now is a production of
