- Mindy: Hey, it's Mindy. After all those years together doing the morning show on the radio station, we're gonna keep the fun going right here. And today we have the Halloween episode. I got my my sister gave me these. These are my bat earrings. let me show you my shirt. Cover ghoul! But we're gonna have today. And we're gonna talk about Halloween candy because in my household, it's always Reese's peanut butter cups. Gotta be chocolate. My husband says we don't do candy, we just do all chocolate, which I agree. So the Halloween debate we're gonna talk about in just a few minutes. Plus, we're gonna be remembering things we did, trick-or-treating that parents would never allow today. And a Halloween morning mind bender. And of course, the big thank you to Brevard County for stepping up and showing up last Saturday for our Making Strides event walk. Which is amazing. So let's jump in. Let's settle this Halloween debate. What's the one Halloween candy you absolutely love? Here it is. And one you wouldn't eat even if it was the last piece in the bowl. Like you just walk away. DoorDash shows Reese's peanut butter cups as the top Halloween candy in 17 states this year. But Candystore.com sales says the most popular Halloween candy in America is M&Ms. Now listen, I love M&Ms, but do love me some peanut butter and chocolate. Sour Patch Kids is at number two nationally. Now, the top three picks for Florida, and this is according for sales, Skittles number one, Reese's Cups at number two, and hot tamales at number three. My sister loves hot tamales. It's always been chocolate in my household. My husband's like, don't give candy. It's all gonna be about chocolate. So what is your favorite Halloween candy? be honest. We want to know in the comments and we want to settle the debate. Is Florida all about Skittles? Or is it Reese's peanut butter cups? Or is it another chocolate? I saw a payday bar with the other day and I was like, mm, that sounds pretty good. Or even the solid Hershey's. The bars? they sound really, really good. Kit Kats, Twix. So much to choose from. But what is your favorite? So that is gonna be the question, and we want the debate to go on right now. What's the one Halloween candy you absolutely love, and the one you wouldn't even eat, even if it was the last piece in the bowl? We want to hear the best and the worst in the comments. So post it now. Ready for the top three things you need to know? Let's kick it off. Triple A says now is the time to start booking your holiday vacation. A new survey found nearly half of Floridians who delayed booking a trip ended up paying more than they would have if they booked it earlier, like right now. The survey found 26% of Floridians begin planning Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's trips right now, so that they can get the good deals in there. and this is sad. I I know the owner, Jim, and his wife, Trisha. They they've been in the community for so long. After 14 years, Grimaldi Candy Company has been sold. Jim and Trisha sold the business to spend more time with their grandkids and do some new adventures. So good for them. I am a huge fan of their chocolate cover potato chips because you can't just eat one. You try to eat one and all of a sudden you're like, let me do a little more, and the box is gone. I always wanna get my a box for my husband and myself and we watch our shows. and they're chocolate covered almonds. To die for. Everything there, everything in the candy shop is so good. So the new ownership plans to keep all the employees, which is good news, and recipes and products. So don't touch the recipes, just leave them alone. If you want to enhance it, that's fine. But it's been such a tradition. So I wish Jim and Trisha good luck and you know enjoying their time with their grandkids. they've been in the community for a long time. They supported a lot of things, including Tuxes and Tales with the Brevard Humane Society. Amazing people. Trick-or-treaters are gonna get more time this Halloween as daylight saving time ends this Sunday. I try to explain it to my mom. Mama, just set your clock. You're gonna fall back so one hour on Saturday before you go to bed. So you're not late. She's like, no, I do a Friday. Mom, you can't do a Friday. It doesn't make sense to do it Friday. Do it Saturday when you go to bed. And she's like, and she's like, no, no, no, I'll do it Friday. All right. Whatever you want to do. But yes, clocks fall back. One hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1st. So this is a big one because it's Halloween time. so the kids are gonna get an extra hour. let's see, experts say heart attacks go up when we spring forward, and heart attacks go down when we fall back. So just remember, before you go to bed on Saturday, to fall back one hour before you go to bed. And that's the top three things you need to know. Coming up, the Morning Mind Bender, the Halloween edition. Last week we talked about Carol Ann. That was the question. Carol Ann interacts with spirits through which household electronic in poltergeist? And the answer was television. Charlie gets a shout out and everyone else that put it in the comments. So appreciate that. The question is in the movie Halloween, Mike Myers' mask is actually a mask of which actor? The rumor is, is that they were trying to find a scary mask and they went to the prop room and they found this mask. And they took it and they painted it white. And it's this famous actor who just came out with a heavy metal album. I think he's what, 94? He's in his 90s. And still around and kicking and singing. So the question again is in the movie Halloween, Mike Myers' mask is actually a mask of which actors? Post it in the comments. Even if someone else posted the right answer, you can still post it so you can get the shout-outs. So post your answer on Instagram @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindylevy or here in the comments on YouTube. Coming up next, it's Mindy's Minute. All the entertainment you need for the week. Prime Video has renewed Carrie for a second season that will take Stephen King's classic horror story beyond the original novel. I'm gonna stop right there. I went into work last week and we're all talking and chatting away about what we were gonna do for the weekend and things like that for Halloween. And someone mentioned, hey, did you see the Carrie series? And I was like, No, there's a series. And they're like, Yeah. And I really it's really, really good. Listen, I'm a traditional girl. I remember the movie Carrie with Sissy Spacek which she was amazing, and a very young John Travolta, who was very mean on that movie and had a really good death scene. And when the blood came down and everyone was running around and she was looking at the doors. I mean, such a good scary movie. And the last, you know, couple seconds of the movie when the hand pops out, everyone jumped in the theaters. Carrie, the original, so good. But everyone keeps telling me we have to watch this one. The series is actually pretty good. So the series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a bullied teenager who discovers that she's got all these powers. So everyone keeps telling me to watch it. So I'll maybe watch it this weekend for Halloween. Disney is bringing back Halloween Town. I love this one. I really do. A fifth installment on the Disney Channel and Disney Plus. I can't believe it's been 20 years. They're saying 20 years after the fourth movie. Detail. Are under wraps, including whether original stars Kimberly Brown or Sarah Paxton will be coming back. All four original Halloween town films. Are gonna be are available now streaming on Disney Plus. That's another one I want to watch. Going back. That gives you ideas to decorate your house, right? The whole town is amazing. My favorite artist, Luke Combs, will return to U.S. Stadiums next spring. He will kick off his My Kinda Saturday night tour on April 3rd in Texas. He'll make a dozen spot stops across the country in Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Denver. And he'll wrap up the tour in San Diego on June 26th. No Florida dates. Come on, Luke. Come on back. I know he loves going to Tampa. I have a couple friends that go every single time he comes, and it's an amazing show. I haven't been there. I'm not a fan of driving that far. Wish he'd come to Orlando. Let's do a private showing here in Brevard. Love that. And that's it for Mindy's Minute. Next, what's trending? Halloween traditions. What's something that we did on Halloween as kids that parents would never allow us to do today? There's a whole list of that. And that's what's trending. But first, we gotta wrap up last week's question, which was scariest movies of all time. Exorcist was on the list, Sinister on the list. So we let you guys decide what you thought was the scariest movie of all time. And someone mentioned the Blair Witch Project. Which back in the day when it first came out, scary. Everyone was screaming in the theaters. Such such a good movie. To this day, I will see a pile of rocks and I will walk away. If I see a bunch of sticks roped together hanging from a tree, or even a bunch of sticks together, I don't care. I'm not going in. Remember the rock scene? It was like, no, no, no. And that that actually lands me into over this past weekend, we did the haunted jail trail with the Brevard Sheriff's office. And they put it on like every year, and I was one of the sk skit actors. I was one of the actors when people were coming in, we were doing it with the sheriff, and I was playing an inmate. So Saturday night was so busy that they were asking, you know, after we were done doing our skit, hey, run out there to the trail. And start scaring people. I am not one to scare someone because when I scare someone, I start laughing. Because I think it's the funniest thing. Just the funniest way. I even go online and watch those videos when people get scared. I just keep laughing. So we go to this one section that had all the dolls. And we're trying to hide in this area, but we look like inmates because we're dressed like inmates. so I'm hiding behind this little area. One of my coworkers sits on the ground and he's trying to distract people as I jump out with this crazy doll. This guy comes around the corner with his wife and the the coworker is distracting him and I grab the doll and I go BAT Just like that. This guy jumped into his wife's arms and he screamed like a woman real high pitch and he looked at me his wife started laughing. He's like, you got me I had to sit down because I couldn't stop laughing. I'm the worst scare actor. Because as soon as I do it, I start cracking up. I could I couldn't stop laughing. It was too funny. It was a great time though. So let's get back to the question as I distracted everybody. What's something that we did on Halloween as kids that parents would never allow us today? First of all, pillowcases. Man, me and my two best friends back in the day, we got the biggest pillowcases we could find in the house. Never told mom and dad. And ran out there because you had to put it over your shoulder with big bags of candy. Because if you get regular bags, they break. And then of course I like the buckets, but it's not big enough. So we would get the pillowcases and run around the streets. We just ran. And then, you know, when it got dark and we got tired and grouchy, we came back, you know, back to the house. But we ran out, you know, with pillowcases. We stayed out half the night. No parents. No supervision that we gotta stay in the neighborhood and just kept going back. There was one house in the neighborhood that gave us full Hershey bars. Full Hershey bars. Now you get nuggets. You're lucky even get one. I try to even get the longer ones, but full Hershey bars. We hit that house so many times with my girlfriends. We're like, let's go back. You know, and then we'd run home and it'd be like late night, and we'd dump all our candy out, all three of us, and then we like trade candy, and of course we start eating it, and then my Parents like, no need it, we're supposed to look at it. Of course, they took ha handfuls trying to eat it too. But my god, that was so fun. So yeah, no supervision, pillowcases, and staying out all we late night night. So that's not what people do now. In my neighborhood, the kits come out in either golf carts, those wagon wheel things that everyone's piled into, and they all come out in groups, which is great because that's what you're supposed to do. Flashlights, reflectors, all the good safety stuff. Back in the day, it was not like that. You just You ran wild back in the day. So that's what we want to know from you. What's something we did on Halloween as kids that parents would never allow today? We want to know your stories. Post it in the comments and then we'll talk about it next week because let me tell ya, it's it was so much fun back in the day. and if you do steal a pillowcase, please tell your parents. Because it might be a really good expensive one. local events. We want to say a big thank you to everyone that came out to the Making Strides walk. And I that's that's a big feature because I really want to say thank you. Ever I mean, Brevard County showed up strong in pink, and we had such a wonderful time with our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk here in Brevard. It happened this past Saturday. I mean the celebration was incredible, the hope, the inspiration. I think there were more people this year than we've ever had. we moved it toward Belks and even the path was better because you got a chance to go to the lake area and walk around. It was just beautiful, it was breezy, amazing. I want to give a shout out to Andrea from the American Cancer Society who put it all together. She did an incredible job. Hunt, who was my right-hand man on stage, he was my stage manager, and he's such an amazing volunteer. He also puts together the Gateway to Space 5K-10K. We're gonna be out there at on the Kennedy Space Center coming up next year, but he was just a Amazing, keeping everyone on track. I know we were just a little bit, we started a little bit late, but it was an incredible walk. The entire strides committee, because I'm on the committee with all these strong, wonderful, beautiful women and getting things done. That's how we do it every single year. Shout out to Freddie from Sophisticated Gents and Space Coast Trimlight. He always has my back, literally. He sets up the sound system, make sure everything's going, no matter how chaotic it is, we are always on point. He is just an incredible man. He really is. And we raised over $166,000 and we're still raising more money for breast cancer research. And it was a sea of pink. So many people inspired. the BCSO team was amazing. sheriff came out, led the walk, and Saint in the back of the side by side. Poor Saint, doesn't even know what's going on. That little dog is amazing. I say little, but he's over a hundred pounds. But we just had such an incredible time. My favorite part of the entire walk is saluting our breast cancer survivors. It's so inspirational. There's not a dry eye in the place. And this was a time where our breast cancer survivors shine. This is a celebration for them. They get their name on stage, you know, how long they've survived breast cancer. And that's their moment. And they deserve a moment. They deserve many moments. But that one they're able to go up and feel free and and and do what they want. And it it was my honor to emcee this. I think I've been doing it for twenty-one years. I think that's how long the walk's been going. And I am truly honored to to be in the company of these beautiful women and men. And then everyone just sharing the love and support that we have for Brevard County. I do want to say thank you to Ellie for the photo because when I'm on stage, I never get a chance to take photos. So Ellie, thank you for the photos. Cindy for the wonderful comments that you have posted. Michelle, thank you for following. J Michelle, love you. Every year she comes to the walk and looks beautiful. Just an amazing time. So thank you, Brevard County, for stepping up. And that's what was happening over the weekend in Brevard. Now let's talk about our feel good story of the day. We're going bananas here in Florida. I have never seen them. The Savannah Bananas. A couple of listeners of mine said they go every time they're in town. You're just like, you gotta go, Mindy. It's the funnest baseball game we ever see. They dance, they sing, they do all this crazy stuff in this baseball game, and it and everyone just has such a great time. And I saw the promos, I saw the videos, and it looks so much fun. So the Savannah Bananas and other banana ball teams will be playing. Several games here in Florida next year. Their championship schedule has just come out from Jacksonville and Tampa to a four-day banana ball open, and that's going to be at the Walt Disney World's ESPN wide world of sports complex in Orlando. So, yes, something that's very close. So it's going to be in Orlando. April 15th through 18th. So if you're a big fan or if you've never heard about them, I was very surprised that Savannah Banana is huge and they're taking the world by storm. So if you want your tickets, get it. And by the way, Savannah Bananas, if you need someone to intro your baseball team, to have fun, maybe a local MC, I'm good at that. I look good in yellow. I'd love to be a part of it. Yeah. Reach out. Love to be a part. I don't know if it's just a guy thing. I gotta find out. But I heard it's so much fun. But that is our feel good story of the day. Our hack of the day, last-minute costumes for moms. Halloween's a few days away. So if you're looking for something, you don't have a budget, you're just running around the house, the kids need to get ready, you're trying to get the house ready, you're doing a party or whatever it is. Simple ways for you moms to dress up your kids. For example, a football player. Just find a jersey. There's a jersey in the house somewhere, and then there you go, football player. Same with a baseball. Baseball jersey, done baseball. Cat ears, whiskers, and maybe a tail. They're a cat. Simple. If you're a Disney fan, this is a good one. Just wear your Mickey Mouse ears or your mini ears. And then put a lanyard on. You should be a Disney fan. And a witch. So easy. Carry a broom and a witch's hat and you're done. And you can find it very inexpensive. So things that you need at the last minute that you probably have around the house that you don't have to pay for anything. You know, because free is for me. I always say that to my nieces and nephews. Songs for Halloween weekend. I'm giving you the top three because that's all you're hearing is the top three. So you're looking at Thriller, Michael Jackson, Monster Mesh, one of my favorites, because that's a goodie, and of course, of course, Ghostbusters, because everybody sings about that, So those are your top three songs for the weekend. And before I go, and the show wraps up, big shout out to Rita, thank you for joining us. Lisa, Tony, Martha, Margie, long time listener. And Alison thank you for joining. Rumors Hair Salon.
