Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Baby girl, you're the urban
- 0:11legend now. Welcome to What's Your Least
- 0:14Favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:16the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our
- 0:19favorite and least favorite scary movies.
- 0:20Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:23base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name is Travis. My name is Jesse.
- 0:26And welcome everybody. We are continuing on with our
- 0:30prom month coverage this month. And today we're going to be
- 0:34doing our Patreon voted episode. And we asked you guys and you
- 0:39guys chose Urban Legends 3 Bloody Mary.
- 0:42Unless we understand that we haven't done the second one yet.
- 0:45Final cut. Yeah, but you really don't have
- 0:48to watch these movies in any kind of order.
- 0:50Like there's callbacks to the first one, but not enough that
- 0:54it actually matters. Yeah.
- 0:56And it's just like brief references.
- 0:57There's really not any continuity in this one.
- 1:01There's more so in the second one from the first one.
- 1:04Yeah, but even then it's not a ton.
- 1:06It's not. Yeah, it's.
- 1:07Not enough to make it. One character?
- 1:09Yeah, she's not in this one, so we don't have to worry about it.
- 1:12I wish we had Reese. You know, she could have been
- 1:15here. We could have had her, should
- 1:17have had her even. OK, it sounds like you've got
- 1:19some interesting facts to share with me momentarily.
- 1:21Oh, I got nothing about that. This is just opinion.
- 1:25Because you're like, she could have been, should have been,
- 1:27yeah. No, no, no.
- 1:29There's a couple people that could have showed in this movie
- 1:32that we might talk about. I think Rebecca Gayheart should
- 1:34be in every movie ever. Yeah, she could have, should
- 1:38have. That is one of the things that
- 1:39apparently she was rumored to be the reporter at the end of the
- 1:43movie, but it ended up not actually happening.
- 1:46I think it was like a rumor, like, hey, she's going to have a
- 1:48cameo in the end of the movie before it released, and then it
- 1:50released. Like, oh, that's not Rebecca
- 1:52Gayhart. So I heard this on another
- 1:55podcast that covered the first urban legend movie.
- 1:59Shout out teen creeps. Love that show.
- 2:02What up? They covered this and supposedly
- 2:05Rebecca Gayhart got into a car accident and it ended like with
- 2:09a person in the other car? What?
- 2:11At least I don't know if there were multiple or just one, but a
- 2:14person did die as a result of that and that's a big part of
- 2:17the reason why she like, stopped acting.
- 2:19Oh. She stopped.
- 2:19Acting, yeah. She's from my area, man.
- 2:22She's from Hazard, KY. That's wild.
- 2:24It is weird. Yeah, that's I've heard of that,
- 2:28but I didn't realize that's why she like had stopped acting.
- 2:31Yeah. Yeah, she was kind of like a
- 2:33thing of just like the 2000s and the 90s, it seems.
- 2:36Yeah, so. Well, OK, hey, we're starting
- 2:39off on a bright note here today. So how about we liven it up a
- 2:43little bit and let's do you have announcements?
- 2:47I do have an announcement and it's a very light announcement
- 2:49because the announcement is just crabs.
- 2:51Crabs. Those are to be or not to be.
- 2:56We actually had quite a bit of kind of nuanced discussion about
- 3:00the the line of good taste. Yeah, so.
- 3:04And Tally's barking. Holy shit, let's pause it.
- 3:14We had some really good discussion, both about the
- 3:17silliness of the movie, the practical effects, and then we
- 3:20had some really deep and nuanced discussion about the line of
- 3:23good taste. Yeah.
- 3:25So a lot of interesting things that we'd love to hear people's
- 3:28thoughts and opinions on as well.
- 3:30But mostly we just want everybody to watch Crabs.
- 3:32Yeah, for a movie like Crabs, it's it's surprisingly brought a
- 3:37good discussion. I feel we had a good time.
- 3:39It's a good time. Check that one out if you can.
- 3:42OK, well I have our poll results.
- 3:45Last week we discussed Night of the Creeps and there's a lot of
- 3:49creepy things in that movie. So we wanted to ask which is
- 3:53scarier, alien slugs, zombies, axe murderer or Brad?
- 4:00Well, 20% of you say alien slugs, 20% zombies, 10% axe
- 4:06murderer and 50% Brad. Yeah, correct.
- 4:11Yeah, you all voted right today. Good job.
- 4:13It is a matter of opinion, but the 50% of you, your opinion was
- 4:17correct. Yeah, and then we even get
- 4:19Zombie Brad. Yeah, with Alien Slug shooting
- 4:22out of his head. So.
- 4:23Yeah, he's, he's pretty fucking terrible in that.
- 4:26Yeah, yeah. All right, cool.
- 4:28Thanks everybody for participating often when we have
- 4:30a good old poll. All right, so with that out of
- 4:33the way, how about we start talking about Urban Legends 3?
- 4:36You just sounded like every sports commentator ever.
- 4:39I've been watching a lot of sports.
- 4:40I love it when we have a good old poll.
- 4:43Yeah. Oh man.
- 4:44Hell yeah. Yep, making them sex comments
- 4:48not even realizing them okay all right so urban legends 3 bloody
- 4:52Mary released July 19th 2005 we watched it on our DVD, which is
- 4:58how it released went straight to DVD and.
- 5:01What? Yeah.
- 5:03And if you, you. Whoa, that's just like an
- 5:06accusation. Want to watch it?
- 5:09You can watch it on Pluto TV right now.
- 5:11If you're wanting to stream it, that's the only option.
- 5:13And if you want to rent it, you can do that too.
- 5:15You can do on Amazon, Apple, YouTube, Fandango at home.
- 5:18You know where to go. It's there.
- 5:20Written by This is going to be weird.
- 5:25This is a weird team that we've assembled for this movie, OK?
- 5:29Written by Dan Harris. OK, that's not the weird part.
- 5:33And Michael Doherty from Trick or Treat Krampus, you know, dude
- 5:39who has done some staples in the horror genre, Yes, he wrote
- 5:43Bloody Mary. And yes, it was around the same
- 5:47time before or after Trick or Treat was written.
- 5:50It was in limbo, I think, whenever he was doing this
- 5:53movie. And yeah, this is the same man
- 5:56that brought us Trick or Treat people.
- 5:58OK, interesting. This is a team of people that
- 6:02are probably like, can we not remember this movie?
- 6:04I don't think anybody here wants to remember this movie exists or
- 6:09have it on the resume. Especially because of who the
- 6:11director is. Director Mary Lambert.
- 6:14She's also a prolific director. As I understand, special effects
- 6:19makeup was Mark Vilabos. Mark Villalobos.
- 6:23Villalobos yeah. OK, Music by Scooter Peach and
- 6:26Jeff Roan. That's how you have to say the
- 6:29same. It's good, Peach.
- 6:31I wasn't ready for that. I was drinking water.
- 6:34Yeah, OK. That's who we got.
- 6:36Yeah. All right.
- 6:36So starring Kate Mara as Samantha Owens.
- 6:41Yep. Kate Mara, Very, very big actor.
- 6:44What do you know her from? She is in House of Cards.
- 6:47She's in a lot of movies. She was in like 1 of the
- 6:50Fantastic Four movies too. She's most notably.
- 6:53She's like I don't know if it's nepo baby.
- 6:58Technically, since her family isn't an acting family, she.
- 7:01Related to Rooney, Mario yeah, sister, okay.
- 7:03Yeah, she's the older sister. This is their parents are like
- 7:09the owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers billionaire family.
- 7:12OK, yeah. So.
- 7:13So even if they weren't in in the movie industry, they still
- 7:16had a leg up. They were fine.
- 7:18Yeah. These people can.
- 7:19They're play the the world's their toy box here.
- 7:22She wanted to go into acting, that sort of thing.
- 7:24And she had the means to be able to support herself during the
- 7:27whole thing. So good for her.
- 7:30We're happy for her. Robert Vito as David Owens.
- 7:34Tina Lifford as Grace Taylor. Ed Marinero as Bill Owens.
- 7:38Nancy Everhart as Pam Owens Michael Cole Not Michael Cole.
- 7:43Michael Cole. As no.
- 7:45As Michael Cole as. Buck Jacoby Don Shanks.
- 7:49Yes, Don Shanks, the hero of all of the horror slasher sequels.
- 7:54Directed video If they have to be as coach Jacoby, Audra, Lee
- 8:00Keener as Heather Thompson and Lilith Fields as Young Mary
- 8:04Banner and Bloody Mary. All right, time for our favorite
- 8:08game on the show. Budget or bug Ted?
- 8:11I wanna say bug Ted, but I'm gonna say it's a higher bug Ted
- 8:18than this maybe looks like it had.
- 8:21It did kind of surprise me with the bug Ted it has, but it is
- 8:24Bug Ted. You're correct.
- 8:25It is $3.5 million to make this movie.
- 8:29OK, you know what? I was expecting you to say
- 8:31something like 7 million and I was going to say bitch where?
- 8:33Too much. Yeah.
- 8:35Yeah. Even the three million, I'm
- 8:37like, what? It just, it really feels like
- 8:39one of those that you're going to be pissed off at how much
- 8:41money it had and what it made and should not do with it.
- 8:44Yeah. So I don't have opening box
- 8:46office since it's direct to DVD, but worldwide gross.
- 8:48All I have written is apparently pretty well.
- 8:53We'll get into that here in a little bit, OK.
- 8:55But apparently it did OK. OK IMDb score is 4.1 out of 10
- 9:01not. Really.
- 9:02Yeah, this is almost the same score as Craps.
- 9:05Craps, yeah. Yeah, they're different leagues.
- 9:09They are different leagues, different movies.
- 9:11Yeah, it's not fair to compare the two, I don't think.
- 9:15OK, so I have three other movies I released in 2005 and I have a
- 9:19theme. A theme.
- 9:21Urban legends slash myths. OK, OK, OK #1 boogeyman.
- 9:29OK. Yeah, So Boogeyman, I figured
- 9:31with some of these, I'm like, especially ones I'm not super
- 9:34familiar with, I'm gonna read off a little synopsis of them
- 9:36just so we have an idea of what we're talking about here.
- 9:39So this is a young man tries to deal with a childhood terror
- 9:42that has never stopped haunting him.
- 9:44And I will say my ranking of the boogeyman goes opposite from
- 9:48their release order so I will go through to 1 is how I rank them.
- 9:52Two got Tobin Bell. I know, I know that the second
- 9:54one has Tobin Bell. The third one has gratuitous
- 9:57Tobin Bell photos. Yeah, Yeah, you're right.
- 10:00Yeah, I think we have one of these, I think.
- 10:01We have, we have the no, we have the third one because that's my
- 10:04favorite 1 and I'm always like, it scares me so.
- 10:06Yeah. OK.
- 10:08So Boogeyman released February 4th, 2005, $20 million budget.
- 10:14That one, and I don't know why. I don't know if it's because
- 10:18it's 2005 or because they have like a very like generic looking
- 10:23lead for 2005, but I always convince myself it's JPADS in
- 10:28that movie. Man, you know, I honestly don't
- 10:31remember anything about this movie.
- 10:32I was it really this big? Was it a big movie?
- 10:35Was that like a fucking event? Because it grossed $67,000,000.
- 10:39So apparently people saw this thing.
- 10:40Oh, people were talking. I don't remember.
- 10:43It people. Said it must have.
- 10:44People said yeah, OK, well, I, I was not hearing nor saying any
- 10:50of this shit back in 2005 because I, it just like went
- 10:52under the radar for me, I guess. IMDb 4.2 got a .1 leg up on our
- 10:59movie here this week, Urban Legends.
- 11:02All right, movie #2 Cry wolf. Yeah, that's like a little urban
- 11:06legend myth that they create in the movie there.
- 11:08We've talked about this on the show.
- 11:10That was my birthday maybe a couple years ago.
- 11:12So just like in our past January episodes.
- 11:14Yeah, 8 unsuspecting high school seniors at a posh boarding
- 11:17school who delight themselves on playing games of wise come face
- 11:20to face with terror and learn that nobody believes a liar even
- 11:23when they're telling the truth. So that's also got Mr. Bon Jovi
- 11:28in it. Yeah, I'm not going to tell you
- 11:31how he. Dies exactly how you think you
- 11:33will. You'll have to just watch the
- 11:35movie or listen to his discography to figure that one
- 11:38out. All right, so Cry Cry Wolf
- 11:41released November Fuck Me, release September 16th, 2005 one
- 11:47million. Any chance for you to like try
- 11:50and cut that snooze? Yeah, it can't happen.
- 11:53All right. Budget him $1 million Thirty
- 11:55$2,000,000 gross 5.8 IMDb. Fuck yeah, cry wolf.
- 11:59Pretty awesome. I love Cry wolf and I will
- 12:01recommend it to people. Anybody that'll whistling?
- 12:04That one does have J pads. Yeah, actually again it was 2005
- 12:10J Pads was there he. Was bopping.
- 12:13He's also in House of Wax a year.
- 12:14Yeah, yeah, dude. Dude was getting busy.
- 12:16I don't know what year he was in Gilmore Girl.
- 12:18Well he was in the Dilmar Girls through most of its runs, so
- 12:21probably also 2005. All right, in the final movie,
- 12:25The Call of Cthulhu. OK, Cthulhu is like a classic,
- 12:30well, myth. I didn't realize that that was a
- 12:32movie too. I always just thought it was the
- 12:33game. There is a game and then there's
- 12:37a movie. OK, yeah.
- 12:38And this is like a shorter movie.
- 12:40You said basically the same thing I did.
- 12:42Yeah, pretty much it this one, it showed up on the Wikipedia,
- 12:45but it's like a shortish movie. It's only 47 minutes, OK, But
- 12:49yeah, it's like a it's a tale of Kathu, somebody going out there
- 12:53and be like, that's a big monster.
- 12:55I think that's how the movie goes.
- 12:56I think that's the official synopsis that was written out
- 12:59for that one that released October 7th, 2550.
- 13:03Thousand for the budget, no gross but a 7.1 on IMDb.
- 13:07So it pretty much did good there with the people.
- 13:10People are talking. People were talking about that.
- 13:12They said. OK, so tag lines.
- 13:15I've got two. First tag line Mary's evil is
- 13:19beyond the legend. I don't.
- 13:22I don't like that because the whole point was it was revenge,
- 13:26not that she was just inherently evil.
- 13:28I'm going to say that the football players were the evil
- 13:31ones. Yeah, they were.
- 13:32Yeah, she was really. She was getting revenge on the
- 13:34people that didn't necessarily need revenge it.
- 13:38Was the IT was the Freddy Krueger, Yeah.
- 13:42Freddy Krueger School of Payback.
- 13:44And, you know, just because it was done before doesn't mean
- 13:46that's the way to go. Yeah.
- 13:47You know, you can always do something different.
- 13:49Change the path to going down Mary.
- 13:51All right, the second movie or not the movie, second tagline.
- 13:55Turn off the lights and see what happens.
- 13:57To me, that just sounds like a good time.
- 13:59Yeah, I was going to say that sounds like, I mean, that could
- 14:02go several different ways, Yeah. You know what?
- 14:05Yeah, that one right there could be any kind of movie.
- 14:08All right, so fun facts, this movie hard to find shit on out
- 14:13there. They did have a making of
- 14:15documentary on the DVD which I did watch, but it didn't really
- 14:18give a lot of information to go on.
- 14:20So I'm going to, I'd just give you what all I was able to find
- 14:24Mary Lambert, she saw the script, liked it, liked the fact
- 14:29that the villain was a girl and a ghost, so.
- 14:31She's very own brand for Mary Lambert.
- 14:34The thing that was really weird to me was she's like, yeah, I
- 14:37liked it. She's a ghost.
- 14:38And then she's like, you don't know that, though, until the end
- 14:41of the movie. I'm like Mary or did you watch
- 14:44or have any involvement in the movie that you made was?
- 14:47It were there some like major edits at the?
- 14:50End. Oh, no, but she was like, yeah,
- 14:52you're not yeah, you don't know that.
- 14:53It's all for revenge. She's a she's a ghost.
- 14:55You want you know, and it's not me taking words out of context.
- 14:58This is her like in like a little behind the scenes, like
- 15:01somebody had camera in her face and I'm like, all right, Mary,
- 15:03talk about the movie. She's like, well, OK, you know,
- 15:06she's like very much put on the spot.
- 15:08She also says that she liked it because not enough female
- 15:11villains exist up there, and she thinks that what are women?
- 15:14She said that she's experienced a lot of women not really liking
- 15:17playing villains because she thinks that they believe it
- 15:20messes with their sexiness or their currency as a sympathetic
- 15:23character. So she was really happy to be
- 15:26able to have somebody wanting to be a female villain for once.
- 15:30OK Doherty and Harris, they pitched it as a theatrical
- 15:33release and ended up not being one, which she was very
- 15:37disappointed because she was promised that there was a good
- 15:39chance that it would actually release in theaters.
- 15:41But they pretty much said, Nah, not to that one right there.
- 15:45It's kind of inspired by the J horror trend that was going on
- 15:50at that time. So the early 2000, the 1st
- 15:53movies were slasher inspired because we had like the screams
- 15:55and I know what you did last summers.
- 15:57And then this one played more off of The Grudge and The Ring.
- 16:00I thought that was really heavy at that time.
- 16:02You can see that in the way like Mary was styled especially.
- 16:05Yeah, yeah. And we had a little sit down
- 16:08with supervisor Mark Villalobos. Villalobos.
- 16:12Villalobos. Yeah, he was like doing the
- 16:15makeup on her and apparently it takes like 3 hours to put the
- 16:18makeup on and an hour to get the makeup off.
- 16:20Man, I thought a lot of that was CGI.
- 16:24Would hurt like on her visually. Yeah.
- 16:26No, that was all practical. OK, yeah, it wasn't the best, it
- 16:30wasn't terrible, but you know, this movie is like a blend.
- 16:33It's a weird blend of CGA and Practical.
- 16:35And I think that's the problem is when you use too much CGI,
- 16:38everything you see, you start to be like, Oh well, that must be
- 16:40CGI as well. They did CG some I guess.
- 16:43Like none of her appearance with CGI.
- 16:45Literally that's one of my bats that I have written right here.
- 16:48CGI married. Oh God.
- 16:50No, yeah, that's all her. That was a contact that they put
- 16:52in her and everything. OK, I mean, good on them, I
- 16:55guess. I think that just the whole
- 16:57movie kind of makes his work seem like maybe it wasn't as
- 17:01good then. That's unfortunate.
- 17:03Yeah, yeah, I think they definitely could have.
- 17:05Done. And I'm not to be clear, I'm not
- 17:07holding that against him. It's the rest of the movie is so
- 17:11heavy on CGI that I just assumed.
- 17:13Apparently, like this, I was reading a review and because I
- 17:18was out there just trying to find anything and this was like
- 17:20a little preview that was written up beforehand by Dread
- 17:22Central. And like apparently this movie,
- 17:25they just weren't really acknowledging its existence even
- 17:28before like right leading up to the release, there was no
- 17:31mention of it on Sony's website, who is the distributor, and
- 17:34there is no mention of it on Phoenix's website who is
- 17:37producing it. And there was no IMDb page
- 17:40created at its time either. So they basically were treating
- 17:43this movie like it just did not exist.
- 17:45They were treating this movie like it was Mary Banner.
- 17:48Yeah. And So what happened?
- 17:51Apparently it sold well. Like we said before, they had
- 17:56originally sold the rights to the franchise, but then Urban
- 18:01Legends 3 did so well in DVD cells that they bought the
- 18:06rights back so they could produce a fourth entry, which
- 18:10that was going to be titled Urban Legends Goldfield Murders.
- 18:14But that movie didn't actually come out as an Urban Legends
- 18:18movie. There is a movie like that out
- 18:20that came out in 2007 called Ghosts of Goldfield.
- 18:23So if you want to watch maybe a spiritual successor to Urban
- 18:27Legends, there we go. That's there and that is it for
- 18:31fun facts. OK, that's about all I could
- 18:33find. I was scraping the bottom of the
- 18:35barrel right there. OK.
- 18:37All right, so let's do some good, bad, ugly and absurd talk
- 18:41right here. OK, so kick it off.
- 18:42What did you like about this movie?
- 18:44I like that it was just a good old fashioned revenge plot with
- 18:47Urban Legends, which is the heart of the Urban Legends
- 18:50franchise. And I think that, like, it's not
- 18:56as unhinged as a lot of revenge plots, You know what I mean?
- 18:59Like, she was killed and she's killing.
- 19:02Like, OK. Like, Angry Ghost.
- 19:04I get it. It's straightforward.
- 19:05Yeah. I'm.
- 19:06I'm on it. I I wish they had more urban
- 19:09legends, but I like the ones that they used.
- 19:11And the only scene I really remembered having seen from this
- 19:14movie before we rewatched it on Friday.
- 19:17Thursday was the one where he's in the hotel room with his dog,
- 19:22licking his hand. You did or didn't.
- 19:24Remember, I did remember it, and that's the only one I
- 19:26remembered. Yeah, because that that's an
- 19:28urban legend that's always freaked me the hell out anyway.
- 19:32And also that scene obviously is upsetting.
- 19:35Yeah, that's a that's a bad scene.
- 19:36I mean it's it's fine for the movie, but I don't really like
- 19:40watching it. Yeah, but like we've got that,
- 19:43we've got the spider egg on the face, we've got peeing on the
- 19:46electric fence. Like we've got some really good
- 19:48urban legends thrown in there. So I think that that's all like
- 19:53it's a fun enough story playline on its face.
- 19:56That's the good that I had to. Despite this movie being based
- 19:59off of 1 particular urban legend, I like that they still
- 20:02rolled with like a bunch of them happening throughout.
- 20:05So she's basically getting revenge on them through other
- 20:07urban legends, which, yeah, you know, I think it would have been
- 20:10cool if they like played into like some stories since why
- 20:12they're doing urban legend deaths by another urban legend,
- 20:16but we don't really go that far into it.
- 20:19But the fact that we got him, I'm happy about him, OK?
- 20:22That's about good. The good I could say for this
- 20:24movie right there, OK. Yeah, dude, my bad.
- 20:27Is the CGI like and the CGI we get is so bad that apparently
- 20:30I'm just attributing everything visually to CGI like.
- 20:34Especially egregious is the spiders.
- 20:37And The thing is, they have real spiders there too.
- 20:40They're on the behind the scenes thing.
- 20:41They had a guy in the tech showed up.
- 20:43Spider Wrinkler. Unless that's just his nickname
- 20:46that he calls himself. I mean, it's kind of like,
- 20:49what's his face is the dinosaur supervisor on Jurassic Park,
- 20:52Phil Tippett? Nope.
- 20:55That's the different dude. Well, OK, he did do.
- 20:57Yeah, you're right. No, that isn't.
- 20:58Yeah. Yeah, I think it's somebody
- 20:59else. There's so many special effects
- 21:00people in that. Yeah.
- 21:01Phil Tippett is the guy That is the ring.
- 21:03Where? Yeah, no, I was thinking
- 21:06specifically of the like, there were velociraptors in the
- 21:10kitchen, Phil. Yeah, so many people died, Phil.
- 21:14Yeah, you're right. Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:17They did have real spiders there, but they did have a lot
- 21:20of CG spiders too. Imagine imagine filming with
- 21:24real spiders and having to go through that, and then you see
- 21:27the final product and you've got spiders that are just like using
- 21:30video game logic on your body. Dude, and The thing is, I saw
- 21:35that scene without special effects added in the behind the
- 21:39scenes thing and it looked kind of nice.
- 21:42They had the practical her ripping the face off.
- 21:44That was practical. Man, I like it.
- 21:46Just ruins it. It really did.
- 21:48Yeah, absolutely ruins it. It's so a Top Model did some of
- 21:53this bullshit too around this time where they would put the
- 21:56models in dangerous situations and then they would just like
- 22:00edit the fuck out of the photos and post.
- 22:03So on cycle 6, they had the girls posing with a live bull in
- 22:10an arena and then they used Photoshop at the end to make the
- 22:14bull closer to them. So it's like you didn't have to
- 22:17have the bull in the at all. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:20And same in a cycle 16 shoot where they were posing with bees
- 22:23and they even had like pheromones on the bees to like
- 22:26or on the jewelry to make the bees pose on the jewelry.
- 22:29But then they added like, so many more bees in posts, and
- 22:31it's like, you could have just added all of the bees, yeah.
- 22:35That's just stupid stuff right there.
- 22:37Yeah. Then I don't know, maybe they
- 22:39had the same person that did the effects for this.
- 22:41And I wonder if it's just like a thought of like, we need more on
- 22:44here, but because we have some real stuff, like we don't have
- 22:47to make it look good. But really all that happens.
- 22:49It's like it doesn't elevate the good it, it muddies it up.
- 22:53Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that was one of the things
- 22:56I had to because it was just not exactly a great blend of that
- 22:59stuff. Cuz that could have been like an
- 23:01Alzheimer scene, you know what I mean?
- 23:03I. Mean it's still pretty
- 23:04effective. It could have been, yeah.
- 23:06It could have been great if they let it.
- 23:08I don't know if they did it right.
- 23:10They did not. OK, well, and my bats are the
- 23:15pacing and editing were a little bit all over the place.
- 23:18I don't know, this movie was just weird with how it handled
- 23:23that. It was very much that and then
- 23:25and then this, then this, then this and.
- 23:27Said yeah, so. This happens because of this.
- 23:30So because of that, then this, it was just like, here's a
- 23:33moment, here's a moment, here's a moment.
- 23:35It just like there was nothing really sewing or weaving the
- 23:38whole story together in a cohesive.
- 23:39Way. Yeah, like.
- 23:40And we get it like. So what's her face, Mara?
- 23:45No, not Mara. Mara's sister Kate.
- 23:48Her character is outspoken. Yes.
- 23:51Samantha, thank you. She gets alienated at school
- 23:55because of it, and her friends become alienated.
- 23:57But then why do her friends all of a sudden decide that they
- 23:59hate her? Yeah, I thought that that was
- 24:01strange too. Like they're basically not even
- 24:03involved after that point. Yeah, which you would think with
- 24:06how they are. Also like in on the prank, they
- 24:10got pranked with her. So like why are they not
- 24:12involved in this? Yeah, you'd think they would at
- 24:14least show us something where where the girls are also being
- 24:16accused of being involved in these killings.
- 24:19Or like, you'd think they would show us some reason why her
- 24:22supposed best friend suddenly hate her.
- 24:25Yeah, it it's just so strange. I don't know, they they didn't
- 24:30really handle the character super well enough.
- 24:32And then they like, bring like Grace, but she's OK, but like, I
- 24:36don't know, like just the way that they handle everything.
- 24:38It was just so weird. Yeah.
- 24:40And like the other thing, David, he dies.
- 24:44I thought that he was going to come back, but like, they don't
- 24:48even address it after he goes away.
- 24:50He's. Just dead, he.
- 24:51Just like his dad stepdad kills him and then that's it and she
- 24:56doesn't even mention them anymore.
- 24:58She's. Like, well, you know, it's.
- 24:59She's like, hey, it's OK, I'm a new urban legend.
- 25:02It's OK, I'm OK. Ugly stuff.
- 25:06So obviously the Why is your head tilted like that?
- 25:09I'm trying. To read my.
- 25:10Oh, OK, so obviously the roofies are, you know, a problem.
- 25:15I'm just, you know, regardless of the movie took the approach
- 25:19that they're using the roofies so that way they can just drop
- 25:22these girls off in abandoned places.
- 25:24And I say it all the time that like, you don't have to just
- 25:28throw a salt in as like an extra like sprinkle on a horror movie
- 25:35because just because it is a terrible thing that can happen
- 25:39to people doesn't mean that you have to put it in every horror
- 25:41movie where terrible things are happening to people, I think.
- 25:43There's a way, there's a time or place you can do it, but you got
- 25:46to handle it super delicately. Yeah, but when you like, throw
- 25:50in the roofies and you see them putting the girls in the car,
- 25:52that's obviously where your mind's gonna go.
- 25:54Yeah. And that's gonna lead me to the
- 25:55next point, which is when the sheriff is saying that like,
- 25:58they can tell from testing that nothing happened to the girls.
- 26:02And I just like, from the bottom of my heart with my whole test.
- 26:06I'm begging people to understand that a rape kit cannot
- 26:11definitively tell you if a rape happened or not.
- 26:14Yeah, at most it can tell you if sex, sexual intercourse of some
- 26:18sort happened, but it can't, like, tell you whether it was
- 26:20consensual or not because the human body is meant to be like,
- 26:25physically receptive to those things.
- 26:28So it's not like a person gets raped and like the rape kit is
- 26:31going to be like, yeah, no, she was for sure raped.
- 26:32Like you're collecting evidence that can be used in the, like,
- 26:37prosecution and investigation of the case.
- 26:40And I need people to understand that because, like saying, oh,
- 26:43well, the rape kit didn't show there was evidence of rape.
- 26:45Like that's not, that's not how that it works.
- 26:47Please stop listening to movies and TV when they tell you that's
- 26:51how that works. That's not how that works.
- 26:53Yeah, I think this movie got another thing wrong, which is
- 26:55like when they initially go missing, they're like, well,
- 26:57it's not been 24 hours, so we can't really do anything.
- 27:00It's also a fucking myth. Yeah, it's.
- 27:02Not true. Like you, if somebody's missing,
- 27:03report that shit. Those first 24 hours are
- 27:06actually the most important. Yeah, yeah, it's just this
- 27:09movie. That was my bad thing too, was
- 27:12the handling of the initial disappearance of the girls,
- 27:15because it was just like they didn't really seem interested.
- 27:19They were more interested in closing the case than actually
- 27:23like getting to the bottom of things.
- 27:25And I have one more ugly bucks chin strap beard.
- 27:30Painfully, 2005. It it hurts to look at, yeah.
- 27:35Yeah, that's not a good look, dude.
- 27:38OK, yeah, OK. Absurd stuff.
- 27:41OK, so in the beginning I think her name is Dawn and or is it
- 27:45Grace? Who?
- 27:47Which one? Don no Don, the mean girl at the
- 27:49prom. Yeah, that's Don.
- 27:51OK, in the beginning, because it looks like her date has dumped
- 27:56her for Mary or whatever. Yeah, but actually she's in on
- 28:00the whole, like the prank. Yeah, if you want to call it a
- 28:02prank. Felt like that's too little
- 28:04word. I think that they she to them
- 28:06they. Yeah, but when Mary comes out
- 28:08and realizes what's happening, Don is there and she goes as if
- 28:12he'd want to touch. Yeah, and she sounded like
- 28:15Parker Posey. Oh my gosh, She kind of did.
- 28:17Yeah. That was really jarring whenever
- 28:20that happened because I thought it was really the dudes just
- 28:22like trying to dip off and I didn't think she was going to be
- 28:24involved. But then like, she's just like
- 28:27commenting on the whole situation.
- 28:28There, Yeah. It was really strange.
- 28:30The whole scene was really weird.
- 28:32And then also, so we see in the beginning Mary gets hit and
- 28:37she's got a mark on the side of her head and it appears to be on
- 28:41the right side of her head. But sometimes the ghost has it
- 28:43on the left side and sometimes it's on the right, like it just
- 28:45switches back and forth. Man, no consistency.
- 28:47No consistency. Come on, Veloobos.
- 28:49Yeah, dude. And again, that's I thought it
- 28:53was CGI so. Yeah, I, you know, no defending
- 28:56it. It doesn't.
- 28:57It doesn't hold up. You're right.
- 29:00So my absurds 1969 also an awful lot like 2005, everybody had the
- 29:06fucking 2005 slicked back gel hairdos, not even slicked back,
- 29:10just like spiked up even. And like the part, that's not
- 29:13what people looked like in the 1960s.
- 29:15It's 1969 in Salt Lake City. Yeah.
- 29:18Man also. Yeah, it's just I, I saw that
- 29:22like you made no attempt to make this true to that era.
- 29:26This wasn't like 9 of the creeps where it opens up in the 60s
- 29:29there I believe, where it was like very very authentic I.
- 29:31Think it was the 50s it was like.
- 29:33Yeah, even better, even more classic.
- 29:37And then the other one is we have that scene with Heather.
- 29:40She it's the scene with the spider kill.
- 29:43She wakes up in her underwear and she gets out of bed and
- 29:45she's walking to the bathroom and you can see her mic pack and
- 29:48her underwear. It's like they tried their best
- 29:51to hide it. The fact that you put it in the
- 29:53underwear though one of like the it's a form fitting piece of
- 29:57clothing. Tape it to her belly.
- 30:00Yeah, we. T her front for a reason,
- 30:02because you're not trying to give us the titty shot, but.
- 30:04Yeah. Put it right there, man, it's
- 30:06going to be even better right there, but you put it right on
- 30:09her ass. Also she wasn't even talking,
- 30:13did she need a mic pack? No, she didn't.
- 30:16Maybe she was talking like, yes, we can't.
- 30:18We can't use. This imagine all of this, she
- 30:22does all of this for this scene and that's how her character
- 30:25dies. She doesn't get any words like.
- 30:29No, man, it was a good death, but like God, they just there's
- 30:34a lot of this movie that just. Kind of.
- 30:35They whipped it. They whipped it hard on the
- 30:38spider scene. They did.
- 30:39They did. OK, that's it for all of that.
- 30:41So let's get into our rating. What do you rated?
- 30:45I want to love this movie so much more than I actually do,
- 30:49but it just it. It sounded like they had heart
- 30:55behind the scenes, but none of that comes through and I don't
- 30:58know. It's so weird.
- 31:00I mean, we got a team of like writer and director that's like
- 31:03accomplished. So what?
- 31:05Happened. I don't know what happened.
- 31:07I don't know if it's studio intervention, I don't know.
- 31:10It sounds like the team honestly thought they were making a
- 31:13different movie that went ended up being made.
- 31:15So I'm not gonna hold it against them based on the information we
- 31:21have. But like I'd have to give this
- 31:22maybe a 4.50? That's one I was gonna give it
- 31:25too. Really.
- 31:26Yeah, this movie like, yeah, it has potential to be fun bad.
- 31:33It's it's still OK. I can throw this on and I could
- 31:37like enjoy it, like just to kind of like RIP on it, just like
- 31:40enjoy the cheesiness of it. But like, if I'm going to sit
- 31:43down and pay close attention all the way through, it's it's kind
- 31:46of a rough one. It's yeah.
- 31:48It's not like the second one is very which we will talk about
- 31:52obviously at some point like. I had that plan on Pluto
- 31:55yesterday. Yeah, it it has very, very silly
- 31:58moments in it, but it still delivers on it.
- 32:01You know what I mean? This one, it just is not like it
- 32:05doesn't have the same qualities. So it just, and obviously the
- 32:09first one is like it's a league of its own.
- 32:12Yeah. So yeah, 4.5 starting average.
- 32:18We're not much higher than the IMDb, which is rare for us.
- 32:22Yeah, you know, it's OK though. Like this one's just not like a
- 32:25big one for us. But you know what we're going to
- 32:27talk about and see if we come out the other end feeling any
- 32:30differently. All right, all right, so we
- 32:33start off with Salt Lake City 1969.
- 32:36We got some teens meeting up in the hall somewhere they can go
- 32:38to the prom together. Prom queen Dawn, she's pissed
- 32:43because she was just dumped. But Mary's date, the Don's
- 32:47ex-boyfriend, says it's fine, she'll get over it.
- 32:49Yeah. And then they're over there at
- 32:51the Punch Bowl and they're starting to spack the drinks,
- 32:54putting a little drugs in there, trying to get the girls a little
- 32:57bit more intoxicated. And they're all slim and the
- 33:00drinks back, they're having multiples.
- 33:02Except for Mary, who's just actually enjoying herself.
- 33:05Like, she's dancing, she's feeling good, she's happy.
- 33:09And then the guys take the the drugged girls outside, and
- 33:15Mary's date asks if she wants to go somewhere.
- 33:18And she's like, yeah. And she thinks that this is a
- 33:21nice evening. And she gets out there and she
- 33:23sees the other dates are putting unconscious girls, her friends
- 33:27into the car realize it's a problem and goes running and.
- 33:31These guys, they, they're the original and they, like I quote,
- 33:35say it's just a prank. It's just a prank, bro.
- 33:37Oh my. God, what kind of prank?
- 33:40What? What prank involves drugging
- 33:42somebody? Yeah, if your pranks, if your
- 33:44prank involves you saying, Oh no, Willie, she's still, she's
- 33:48still sober. She can tell on us.
- 33:51That's not a prank. That's not.
- 33:52No, that's that's assault and a legal act It's assault.
- 33:55Yeah, that is bad, Yeah. No, don't.
- 34:00I hope Talia didn't hear you. Out there, Talia, you're you're
- 34:03beautiful and you do no wrong. There we go.
- 34:07We're we're resolving them. So yeah, he chases her and she
- 34:10is hidden in the storage room and she thinks she's going to be
- 34:13able to get away, but he finds her there and.
- 34:17He like punches her and she falls and hits her head on the
- 34:20corner of an object which gives her the gash that moves all over
- 34:24her forehead. Man, I watch these things
- 34:27sometimes and I know all it takes is to fall at the wrong
- 34:31angle, but I'd be hitting my head a lot and I've never busted
- 34:36it open like that. You're out.
- 34:37It's just wild. I am Elton John.
- 34:42Yeah, so she's dead. And he just takes her and puts
- 34:45her body in this chest that's over there.
- 34:48And you know what this is, man? This is kind of like Mary Lou,
- 34:51like locked up in the chest and all.
- 34:53Yeah, God. And her name is Mary.
- 34:56Yeah. So he he puts her in there.
- 34:58You're on to something. I'm on to something.
- 35:01And the other guy's like, yo, where'd she go?
- 35:03He's like, I don't know. And I will say we do have a
- 35:06really cool transition where it cuts out to, like, a sleepover.
- 35:10And one of the girls is telling this as an urban legend.
- 35:13And she's like, yeah, She was like, even though it was more
- 35:15than 30 years ago, they still haven't found her body.
- 35:20And outside, Sam's mom was like, it's like, kind of weird that
- 35:24they're not going to their own homecoming.
- 35:27No. And her husband's like, no, not
- 35:29everybody wants to be prom queen.
- 35:30Like I'm real bummed that this guy ends up being the killer
- 35:35because. Yeah, he's their stepdad.
- 35:38Right. Yeah, which?
- 35:39Makes me wonder, so did they force them to take his last name
- 35:43or did he take their last name Because his last name is Owens.
- 35:46Because he's got the badge on. Like vote for Owens but they're
- 35:48all Owens. On IMDb they're all listed as
- 35:51Owens and they they refuse to call him dad, so that's not a
- 35:56choice that they made because they don't like the guy.
- 35:59I could see it being a thing where like the mom made it
- 36:01happen. I don't know how old they were
- 36:03when the kids, how old the kids were when they got together it.
- 36:06Feels a reason. Yeah, so I don't, I don't know.
- 36:10I mean if you go on Reddit all the time you see like stories of
- 36:13kids being asked to take their step parents last name and.
- 36:18It's weird, Yeah, it's weird. I I, you know, but maybe that's
- 36:21like putting the layers into why they hate this guy.
- 36:24It doesn't seem like Sam hates him.
- 36:27Oh no, I guess no, we don't really get a lot of like them.
- 36:30Talking about David hates him, but like, I don't know, it seems
- 36:34like, you know, he's out here defending the girls and I guess
- 36:38he's doing. Yeah.
- 36:39Like, I, I don't know. I for the most part, I generally
- 36:43like their little blended family dynamic.
- 36:45Granted, I'm always going to be like a proponent of that coming
- 36:50from a very successful blended family myself, but yeah.
- 36:54Well, so they're still telling the urban legends and then
- 36:58David. Comes they kind of speed run
- 36:59through some urban legends and one of them especially is they
- 37:02like getting the hand stuck in the vending machine and it
- 37:05falling and crushing them. Also like how there's one of
- 37:07them that's like calling you. She's like Bloody Mary that's
- 37:10just a RIP off of Candy Man. And then like David comes in and
- 37:13sets the record straight. By the way, Candy Man ripped off
- 37:16Buddy Mary. Which I also think is really
- 37:19funny because even in Canon of this movie, Mary, the Bloody
- 37:25Mary of this movie, would have died before Handyman ever came
- 37:28out. So yeah.
- 37:29Right. Yeah, exactly.
- 37:30Yeah, so of course they do the Bloody Mary and of course
- 37:32nothing happened, so. Well, actually, as soon as she
- 37:35finishes that, we do see Bloody Mary appear outside their house.
- 37:39Yeah, but they don't know that. Yeah, instead they have a moment
- 37:43and then they giggle and have a pillow fight because 13 girls in
- 37:46a 2005 movie and then they go to bed.
- 37:50Roughhouse. But in the middle of the night,
- 37:54we hear some spooky sounds. Spooky sounds.
- 37:56Something at the door. Right outside, because there's a
- 37:58door right next to them. There's something in like the
- 38:00living room. And I mentioned this briefly
- 38:02during the Good Butt Ugly and absurd, but the reason these
- 38:06girls are home instead of at homecoming is essentially
- 38:09because the football team blacklisted them because Sam
- 38:12wrote an article about the football players being given
- 38:15class credit for going to football practice.
- 38:18That's pretty fucking dumb. Yeah, and she posts like, it
- 38:21seems like the type of thing that you would post in a like an
- 38:24op-ed in a school newspaper. But she also put an embarrassing
- 38:27picture of them. Yeah, in it too, so.
- 38:30I'm happy for it, though. That's a good one.
- 38:32Good call out. All right, It's the next
- 38:33morning. David asked for $100.
- 38:36Yeah, him and his mom are joking around.
- 38:37They seem to have a decent relationship between the two of
- 38:40them. And then she's tells them to go
- 38:42wake up the girls. They're all gone and the den
- 38:45door to the outside is open. So they call the cops and the
- 38:49cops really not actually missing for 24 hours.
- 38:51And they're like, no, actually they are missing because they
- 38:54don't do this. This is not the type of of girls
- 38:56they are. And like, yeah, there's just
- 38:59like a little like montage of them or like a time lapse of
- 39:02them waiting it out. And they're like, all right, 24
- 39:04hours later the cops show up and when we get one of the cops, I
- 39:07think he's the sheriff, but he has the vote for Bill Owens
- 39:10badge on. You're like, there might be
- 39:11something weird about this whole Bill Owens type guy.
- 39:14Yeah, so at school on Monday, David is being avoided and kind
- 39:19of stared at and not in like, the usual, like, oh, something
- 39:23bad happened to this person. You're worried.
- 39:25It's like, almost contagious kind of way.
- 39:27But this person that's a social pariah has gone missing, and
- 39:31it's big news. But now it makes his brother,
- 39:34makes the brother seem even a little bit more awfulness.
- 39:38Yeah, and he's also kind of suspicious of of Buck, who is
- 39:43passing notes in class and they're all like sneaking looks
- 39:47at David too. So he thinks that there's
- 39:49something involved with him, especially since of the whole
- 39:51newspaper thing. Yeah, and the notes, like we
- 39:54don't linger on it too much, but like one of the notes says, they
- 39:57should be back by now. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:59So we know immediately that they are in fact involved.
- 40:03That night Stan walks in looks a little worse for wear but
- 40:06generally unharmed. She said she just woke up in the
- 40:09basement of the old mill, doesn't remember anything, but
- 40:13the testing at the hospital did reveal roofies in her blood.
- 40:16I feel like it's weird that she went to the hospital and had all
- 40:19this testing done and her parents were never notified.
- 40:22Right. I think was it the cops who this
- 40:25town is just like it's incompetent.
- 40:27Yeah, so she they say that she was not abused in that way.
- 40:33You don't fucking know from attempts like that, but yeah,
- 40:36OK. So she's starting to have
- 40:38visions of Mary, though something's happening there.
- 40:41So we now go to the next stage. The school gossip is that all of
- 40:46this was a stunt by those three. And then Heather, I don't know
- 40:51if she's like friends with the football players or if she's
- 40:53Buck's girlfriend. It's kind of ambiguous.
- 40:55Girlfriend I I get that implication, but it's never like
- 40:58outright shown. She stands up for the girls as
- 41:03they're being gossiped about, and then after class, she tells
- 41:06Buck that they're back and they were in class.
- 41:10So David and Sam are twins, and they're talking, you know, And
- 41:16she does. She does eventually say, you
- 41:19know, it was Buck, Tom. And who's the third one?
- 41:24Roger. Yeah, she kind of hints that
- 41:26she, like, circled them. She's like, they did it on that
- 41:28newspaper. So David goes and approaches
- 41:32Buck in the locker room shower and they just make short work of
- 41:38him. They just like push him out of
- 41:39there and like the whole team turns on him too.
- 41:41Apparently this guy he like had to do this take like 10 times
- 41:44and by the end of it, he was filling it because they were
- 41:46like really just shoving them all the way out of the the
- 41:50locker room the entire. Time I could see that I would
- 41:52get sore yeah, he's like. If I take 10, I was dead.
- 41:56So yeah, I mean, valiant effort, man.
- 42:00You know, good for you for standing up for your sister, but
- 42:01that was Louis in battle right there.
- 42:03Also, how did you expect that to go?
- 42:05You went into their territory. You have to at best approach
- 42:08them on neutral grounds. Which is what he does here.
- 42:11So he's out in the parking lot stake in the mount, and then he
- 42:14sees Roger Leaf, because Roger's going to go to the tanning band.
- 42:17Yeah, this guy does. He's talking about his tan line,
- 42:19and the ladies love having it. Just be pale down there y'all?
- 42:23This feels very much like almost a direct and I don't know what
- 42:28years they were so maybe. Final destination.
- 42:30Yeah, cuz like, Oh my. God, this, she says in that too,
- 42:33doesn't. She yeah, she says 7 gets off on
- 42:35tan lines. Oh my God I'm looking this up
- 42:37right now. When did final destination 3
- 42:39come out? I think it came out in like
- 42:402003. Destination 3, 2006.
- 42:47It did it first. It did it, but Final Destination
- 42:503 did it better. Final Destination.
- 42:53It punched it up, but it had the benefit of being the second one
- 42:56to do. It they're like, OK, what were
- 42:58what did I wear? Let it be known today that Urban
- 43:01Legends Three had a leg up on Final Destination Three people.
- 43:05OK, it happened, all right? Anyways, so he's there.
- 43:08He's flirting with. Betsy.
- 43:10Betsy, she's there, she's got like her top is basically non
- 43:13existent. Listen, she's now she's covered
- 43:17the bits that need to be covered.
- 43:18Yeah, yeah. She's leaving a lot of stuff
- 43:21there for you to just kind of make your own interpretation.
- 43:24Yeah. And he's over there.
- 43:25He's getting set up. She's more covered than a DCC.
- 43:28That's a DCC. To ask every cheerleader.
- 43:30Yeah, OK. And she is.
- 43:34So he goes, he gets in the tan bed, she sets him up and he is
- 43:38trying to tell her how long he wants to be in there for, but
- 43:40she's distracted because she's on the cell phone again.
- 43:42Final Destination 3. This whole scene is basically
- 43:45straight up from Final Destination.
- 43:47But they do it better. But like you said, they they
- 43:50could watch this, take notes. Yeah, did.
- 43:52It first. So yeah, she gets on the call
- 43:57and like he's like, I will come tell you when I'm done.
- 43:59Like just leave it on the lowest setting and I'll come get you
- 44:02when I'm done. And she's out on the phone and
- 44:04she, she doesn't realize, like she doesn't realize that time is
- 44:06passing. And she also doesn't realize
- 44:08that outside of the room, the temperature is going up and up
- 44:11and up on the bed. And he doesn't hear her hear him
- 44:14shouting for her. And when she's on the phone, she
- 44:16goes, I need to go check on Roger.
- 44:18What time is it? And we don't hear what time it
- 44:21is, but we get the idea that it's been a really long time
- 44:24because she freaks out. So she goes running in there and
- 44:28she busts in and like it's just smoke everywhere.
- 44:30You would think that she would smell it because burning flesh
- 44:33apparently smells terrible. Yeah.
- 44:35But he's burnt to a crisp. He looks like jerky.
- 44:38Yeah. So we cut to the funeral and we
- 44:42see Coach Kobe. Don Shanks.
- 44:45Don Shanks leaving flowers on Merry Banner's grave.
- 44:48Yeah. Yeah, Sam tracked him because he
- 44:51was just kind of walking around all suspicious slack out there.
- 44:54So Heather brings her, brings Sam's history homework to her
- 44:59and says, you know, like, hey, we're just doing payback.
- 45:04Like it was just prank bro. Remember, we used to be best
- 45:08friends. What happened to us?
- 45:09Best of friends, Old friendship. Best friends.
- 45:11Anyway, here's your homework. You want to really pay attention
- 45:13to chapter 2? Yeah, she.
- 45:16Opens it up and there's an envelope.
- 45:17Yeah, she's basically saying, like, this has all happened
- 45:20before, and the envelope has, like, old newspaper clippings in
- 45:22it. So that night she's in her room
- 45:26and she's asleep on her bed and she's got creepy Victorian
- 45:29dolls. She isn't Heather.
- 45:32Yeah, she isn't Heather. Yeah, and we see a spider crawl
- 45:35out of the doll's mouth, which is an urban legend.
- 45:38I'd never heard of that one. Until you told me that.
- 45:40Yeah. And then it leads into an it.
- 45:43That's the setup for like part of the urban legend people have
- 45:45hear. People hear different versions
- 45:46of it, but this is a setup I heard.
- 45:48Is that like it crawls out of a doll like an antique and it lays
- 45:52an egg on on the person's face and they wake up in the morning,
- 45:56see what they think is a zit and in fact, it is millions of
- 46:00spiders, Yeah. Which is exactly what happens.
- 46:03She wants them. She.
- 46:03Is not freaked out enough about how bad the zit looks on her
- 46:07face in the morning. If I woke up with something like
- 46:09that, I'd be like, that's not that.
- 46:12It did not look like a zit. Yeah, you're right.
- 46:14Yeah, it was. It was huge, like something.
- 46:15That it looks like a necrotic wound.
- 46:18Yeah, it's not good. She pops.
- 46:21A bunch of spiders start crawling out.
- 46:23And also like if you go to pop something that that that's that
- 46:26big and it's not hurting more than that.
- 46:29Also not a zit because a zit that big would hurt if you were
- 46:32like. Maybe the spiders numbed it,
- 46:35but. That's what I'm saying.
- 46:37She should have known. Yeah, she should have, but she
- 46:40didn't. She dumb.
- 46:41Sam's outside, she's waiting. David's dropped her off to like,
- 46:45you know, pick her up or whatever.
- 46:47Yeah, she denies a ride to school, so I guess she was going
- 46:50to take her bike, but yeah. Something like that, but she
- 46:52goes and she's like wanting to talk to Heather in the morning
- 46:54and banging on the door. Can't get anybody to answer.
- 46:56Because she hears screaming. Yeah, and Heather is just in
- 46:59there on the ground, ripping her face open, all kinds of spiders
- 47:02just crawling everywhere. I would probably react the same
- 47:05way. Yeah, me too.
- 47:06Honestly. Yeah, fuck that man.
- 47:07That's a nightmare. Yeah, and she can't get in until
- 47:12it's too late, basically. So the school now has security
- 47:17guards out front. Sam's friends aren't sitting
- 47:20with her. Buck and Tom figure that all of
- 47:25the problems are due to David and Sam.
- 47:29Yeah, yeah. He he thinks that they're behind
- 47:32it, so they're going to get their revenge.
- 47:36And that revenge starts by Tom drunk driving.
- 47:40And as he is driving, he sees Bloody Mary in the middle of the
- 47:42road and swerves, and that makes him go off the road.
- 47:46So he decides this is a good time to take a pee break.
- 47:49And he pees on like, I was like, it's going to be an electric
- 47:52fence. And you're like, yeah, I think
- 47:54so. And then it cuts to the sign
- 47:55that says electric. Yep.
- 47:57So he's in there middle of a good stream and then Mary shows
- 48:01up and she just flips the switch and it shocks him.
- 48:05It was flying pee, pee burnt up. And then we cut to the next day.
- 48:09And I like this quote like one of the, I guess it's probably
- 48:11the coroner's like holy shit, this guy's Dick smoking.
- 48:15Like that's inappropriate. Dude that is a high schooler and
- 48:18his Dick is smoking. So don't say that part.
- 48:21Be respectful. They also one of the cops points
- 48:23out that his fingers been cut off and they're like, watch your
- 48:26drinks tonight. That's like that old urban
- 48:27legend of the finger in the bottom of the soda bottle.
- 48:31There's so many, they just like they sneak them in there.
- 48:33They just keep putting these urban.
- 48:35Legends. Yeah, this may be.
- 48:37Honestly, there are certain ways, Like when you're waiting
- 48:40for a death to happen, it's got a sense of final destination to
- 48:44it because it like plays around with it some you don't exactly
- 48:47know how a character's gonna die.
- 48:49You're right, yeah, it like does use like multiple urban legends
- 48:53to try and do that. That's you know, that is an
- 48:54interesting little. Aspect, yeah, I do like that it
- 48:57plays around with it. I just wish it had done it
- 48:59better, yeah. OK, so Sam is now showing David
- 49:03that evidence exists of the same thing happening to other people
- 49:08that happened to her and her friends.
- 49:10So they go to the library. Unfortunately, no microfiche.
- 49:14We're going straight up Internet here.
- 49:16Yeah, which you don't need to go to the library or the school for
- 49:18that, but whatever. But they go there and they're
- 49:21just reviewing old articles and they find one that mentions 3
- 49:25women that were abused the first time.
- 49:28Gina, Mary and Grace. Gina shot herself in 1982.
- 49:33Mary, I thought we would come back to that and find out she
- 49:35hadn't. Yeah, I thought that maybe we
- 49:37would have like, gotten something from that, but really
- 49:40we're just trying to figure out that there's one survivor Mary
- 49:42never found, but Grace still alive.
- 49:44Yes. And they happen to have her
- 49:46address right there too, surprisingly.
- 49:49Yellow Pages, ma'am. Or well I guess it was white
- 49:51pages for individuals so if you weren't and unlusted you could
- 49:54look that up easily. But while that's happening, Don
- 49:57Shanks overhears. And then he goes over there and
- 50:00he wiggles the mouse to get the black screen off there and sees
- 50:03what they were looking up the entire time.
- 50:06I as an adult I have evolved from mouse wiggling to waking up
- 50:10a computer to hitting a space bar.
- 50:12I do that too, yeah. Like it's, it's weird, right?
- 50:15You have to now type in the pin code.
- 50:16Yeah, I think before it stayed like that until you just like
- 50:20wiggle it. Yeah.
- 50:22Yep. So they are now going over to
- 50:25Grace's home and she welcomes them in after a little bit of
- 50:30reluctance. She is incredibly paranoid
- 50:34because she spends 23 hours a day stumped out of her cord.
- 50:37She yeah, she's like high the entire time.
- 50:39Which like probably self medication but also they call
- 50:44they refer to her as the hippie in 1969.
- 50:47So I think she was doing it recreationally beforehand and
- 50:50just kind of upped it with the trauma.
- 50:52I mean her van is that 70s Volkswagen like.
- 50:56Microbus. Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a cool
- 50:59piece right there. So like, Sam is talking to her
- 51:04while David is wandering around and he happens to stumble upon
- 51:07this little art book that she has called Urban Legends.
- 51:10And I think this is cool because it's illustrations of deaths
- 51:13from the past movies and it even has the puffy coat killer.
- 51:16Yeah, she's. And she's a talented artist.
- 51:19Yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 51:20So he's like looking through all that and he's getting freaked
- 51:22out. And Grace is like, oh, yeah, no,
- 51:25the murders are definitely Mary. Her life force was always
- 51:28strong. And Sam's like, what are you
- 51:30talking about? And she goes, no, it's just,
- 51:32it's the laws of the universe. Like energy doesn't disappear.
- 51:37It just changes forms. And this is kind of how I like,
- 51:42you know, I've talked before on the show that I believe in like
- 51:44ghosts and the paranormal and stuff like that.
- 51:46And it's that same concept, like energy just transfers.
- 51:50Yeah. So I get where she's coming
- 51:53from. And I also get why David's
- 51:54doesn't believe this. Yeah, I get it too.
- 51:57You know, I mean, she's also stoned and she's also telling
- 52:00them urban legends. So, you know, like take it for a
- 52:03grain of salt here. And she's saying that she's
- 52:05killing the children of those who stole her youth.
- 52:07So it's meant to be like poetic justice or whatever, I guess.
- 52:10No, they won't escape the sins of their fathers.
- 52:13Is what she says. So Heather's mom was Dawn, the
- 52:18prom queen. So that's why she got killed.
- 52:21She says that she can't remember the names of their dates but
- 52:25knows that they were on the football team.
- 52:26Now, one of the things that they've seen in the newspaper
- 52:28articles was that the girls refused to ever say who did it
- 52:32to them. Yeah.
- 52:33Which is what happened with Sam and her friends, too.
- 52:37So. And Grace is holding.
- 52:38She's holding true to that, just like by process of elimination,
- 52:42they're like, we're just going to assume Buck is next, so let's
- 52:45go look for him so we can try and save him.
- 52:47They find him and he's like, listen, my dad didn't do
- 52:50anything. You know, I just, I, I asked him
- 52:53how to handle the situation and he told me what he would have
- 52:55done, but he never actually did anything to those girls.
- 52:58He was young. Yeah, this like it's so fucking
- 53:03weird, man. And like, he what's he doing?
- 53:04He's like in the parking lot. He's just like sitting in the
- 53:06parking lot with his dog. And he's also going to stay at a
- 53:10hotel. What is happening with him and
- 53:12his family here? Did he get kicked out?
- 53:13I don't know. There's like a story happening
- 53:16here that we are not like Privy. To yeah, What is this?
- 53:19What is this movie? It's from Buck's POV.
- 53:22What did Don Shanks do to Buck? He was Don Shanks.
- 53:28Yeah, good enough said. So David and Sam are talking
- 53:32about all of this at their house and Bill hears them talking and
- 53:37just kind of asks a little bit and they're they don't give full
- 53:40details. Well, Sam doesn't give full
- 53:41details and David's like no, she thinks that it's Merry Banner's
- 53:44ghost. Yeah, Come on, Dave.
- 53:47Come on. We come back to Buck.
- 53:49He's at the hotel room. He's getting drunk with a bottle
- 53:53of bourbon that has a finger at the bottom.
- 53:54Yeah, and he's doing the thing with his dog.
- 53:57He's like, just like letting his dog look at the hands, you know
- 53:59where this is going. Yeah, let the lay your dog on
- 54:02the bed. Yeah, come on, man.
- 54:03It's. Not even your bed.
- 54:05The thing that I was reading about this, so he's watching
- 54:08porn, you're going to see very casually, like he's just like,
- 54:11he's like, yeah. It's like who just watches porn?
- 54:13This man. This man actually does read the
- 54:15articles what's happening here, but what I read apparently this
- 54:21is like flashes of what's on there are from the second Urban
- 54:27Legends movie where there is a dream sequence where 1 character
- 54:30is dreaming of having sex with somebody else.
- 54:33Oh, that's kind of a cool little nod.
- 54:34Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting, but he runs out of
- 54:37chips, so he's going to go to the vending machine to get some
- 54:40more. He's got no money, so I don't
- 54:42know how he thought that was going to happen.
- 54:44He checks the the coin return and finds nothing.
- 54:46And then he's like, I got long arms, I'm a football player.
- 54:52And he reaches in there and this is what I'm talking about.
- 54:54Like the kind of final destination feeling.
- 54:56Yeah, cuz you think it's going to happen like that?
- 54:57Yeah, but he as it falls, his hand comes free, he avoids the
- 55:01machine crushing him, and he gets free chips.
- 55:04Yep. So he just scoops them all up
- 55:05and heads back. What a day to be, Buck.
- 55:07Dude, his tummy's going to hurt. Yeah, that's not going.
- 55:10To be that, I don't even want to think about how nasty and acidic
- 55:16that vomit's going to be. No, it's not going to be good.
- 55:19Well, we go back there. He's passed out from, you know,
- 55:22watching porn. He's tuckered himself out there
- 55:25and he's. Watching it for the putt.
- 55:28Also his dog's super farty. Kind of like Talia here.
- 55:30Talia. 'S yeah.
- 55:31His dog's name is Chewie and he wakes up.
- 55:36The porn is still on, so he hasn't been asleep for too long.
- 55:39He reaches over to let Chewie continue licking his hand and
- 55:42then he hears a dripping sound. So he goes to where the dripping
- 55:44sound is, and he finds. The dog, it's tied up, killed in
- 55:52the closet. I hate this symmetry.
- 55:54And then we see a note that says humans can lick too.
- 55:58God that is a creepy urban legend.
- 56:00I there was like an illustration I saw of that.
- 56:03That's like in my head always when I picture it.
- 56:06It's scary, Yeah. And he he like he starts to
- 56:10stumble back and then he. Marriott banner comes out.
- 56:14Yep, right from under the bed, crawls over there and takes the
- 56:17bottle with the finger in it, because we got that going here
- 56:20too. Yeah, and just smashes it on him
- 56:22and then takes the broken bottle and cuts him up.
- 56:25At school, Sam's friends tell Sam and David that Buck is dead.
- 56:30Coach Jacoby wasn't allowed to take off of work.
- 56:34His son died. I know he wasn't allowed to
- 56:37take. Off over there being comforted
- 56:39by like the students, like Jesus.
- 56:41What kind of like school do you guys run?
- 56:43Maybe he wanted the the sympathy attention.
- 56:46You know, he might have. I mean, he did kick out Bug.
- 56:49Like there's probably a suspicion that he killed Bug
- 56:52again, that story, we don't know what's happened with that.
- 56:54One, he's like, he's like, I'm Don Shanks.
- 56:56I really need to do what I can to get this decision off.
- 56:59Yeah, he's like, I'm going to be seen crying in a public
- 57:01stairway. Like, I was the guy and I always
- 57:03know what you did last summer, and I was the Michael Myers with
- 57:06a fat neck. Like, it's just not looking good
- 57:08for Don Shanks. Here, like I know what I would
- 57:11think if I wasn't me. Like I've got to be seen.
- 57:14Morning. OK, so David goes back to talk
- 57:20to Grace and he finds her door open.
- 57:25And he goes in. He just walks in.
- 57:27And she's about to spray them with bug spray and he's like,
- 57:30ah, it's just me. And she goes, oh, I left the
- 57:31door open for the cats. Plausible.
- 57:34Sure, that's, you know, whatever.
- 57:37It's like way too cold for like your cats just go running around
- 57:39Grace, but whatever, she's high. So he asks once more.
- 57:42He's like, I really need to know the names of the people who did
- 57:44that. And she goes, I didn't tell back
- 57:46then and I haven't told in 36 years.
- 57:49I'm not going to tell you now, but I did always say all it
- 57:53would take was to look at the pics in the archive.
- 57:55Yeah, the yearbook. It's just that easy.
- 57:58Yeah, she literally said like you can find it just from
- 58:00looking at the pictures. It was our dates and it wasn't
- 58:03not documented anywhere. Is that the cops really just
- 58:06gave 0 shits? They really did, man.
- 58:08Yeah. So he's going to the school to
- 58:11go check that out. Meanwhile, Sam is back home, and
- 58:14she's getting visions of Mary because she's looking at a chest
- 58:17in her room. And now she's seeing what
- 58:19happened to Mary. She sees that she's been like,
- 58:22put in the chest. And she wasn't dead when she was
- 58:25locked in there. Yeah, she just died from, you
- 58:27know. Being locked in there, yeah.
- 58:30So that's worse. I'd say that's worse.
- 58:33That is a lot. Worse.
- 58:34That sucks. So she tries to call David and
- 58:38he's not answering his phone because he's deep in the
- 58:40archives and, you know, looking at the pictures and he finds who
- 58:43the 5th person is and he says holy shit.
- 58:48So Sam goes to Grace's house because she thinks that's where
- 58:51David still is. And she, Grace tells her that
- 58:56she also sees Mary. She sees her all the time.
- 58:58And she's was, I know what she needs.
- 59:00And it's that she needs her body to be found and married.
- 59:02And she was like, oh, well, I actually happened to know where
- 59:06she might be because I had a flash.
- 59:09So I need you to drive me to the school.
- 59:12She reluctantly agreed. She's like God damn.
- 59:15It I I love this because this whole third act is her just
- 59:18going oh damn it. Yeah, I know.
- 59:20Yeah. She calls the home because Grace
- 59:25tells Sam that David went to go look in the archives and then
- 59:29was going to go home. So Sam calls the home phone.
- 59:31David can't find it to answer it, so she leaves a message
- 59:34saying like hey meet me at the school, I figured out what we
- 59:37need to do. And then he gets Billy bagged.
- 59:39Oh yeah, yeah, Billy Bagged. I'm glad that you wrote that,
- 59:42because I wrote that too. I knew you would write it, so I
- 59:44wanted to. I wanted to impress you.
- 59:46Thank you. And just so anybody know who
- 59:48isn't aware, Billy bagging is the art of, you know, taking a
- 59:52bag over somebody's face like Billy did in Black Christmas
- 59:55Billy bagging. Billy bagging.
- 59:57I'll get in the dictionary. Weapon is going to pick it up
- 59:59one day. All right, So yeah.
- 1:00:01And that's the last we see of David.
- 1:00:03Like he's just fucking. That's just it.
- 1:00:05Yeah, I. I hate that.
- 1:00:06It's I always picture like when stuff like that happens.
- 1:00:09I always picture the end of the hot tub episode in American Dad
- 1:00:13where Cee Lo Green's like that's it, they're dead.
- 1:00:16I also like vacation where like he's like bullying his little
- 1:00:20younger brother's like bullying him.
- 1:00:22He's like making eye contact with the girl in the back of the
- 1:00:24car. It's so fucking funny.
- 1:00:31Grace takes Sam to the school, but she won't go inside.
- 1:00:35So Sam goes in. She finds the storage room and
- 1:00:37she finds the trunk. And I got so mad because she
- 1:00:41takes a crowbar and instead of using leverage, which is the
- 1:00:45simple machine you want in this case, that lock has to be rested
- 1:00:49as fuck. She's just, like, tab hitting
- 1:00:51it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:52And not even that hard. And I was like, that's not how
- 1:00:55you get a padlock to open, dummy.
- 1:00:58And then it burst open. And you just looked over at me
- 1:01:00like, guess you were proved wrong.
- 1:01:04Yeah, help from Mary there. I think if.
- 1:01:08Mary could have done that. She could have freed herself a
- 1:01:11long time ago. She just needs somebody to,
- 1:01:12like, tap it. She needs somebody to care.
- 1:01:15That's what it was. So it's open and the remains are
- 1:01:19still there. So she takes the little blanket
- 1:01:22of whatever and wraps Mary up in it and starts running off.
- 1:01:25Yeah, except then a mystery man arrives in the storage room.
- 1:01:30But she's tricked him. She manages to get out before
- 1:01:33you can find her, and she locks him in the storage room.
- 1:01:35She starts to run. She trips over the mop bucket
- 1:01:38that the janitor just left out. Just just left it out.
- 1:01:43Dude's gonna have to refill that thing.
- 1:01:45I would hope he would refill it anyway.
- 1:01:46Have you ever mopped with dirty mop water?
- 1:01:48It's disgusting. Yeah.
- 1:01:50She makes it outside and Grace is like passed out on the
- 1:01:53steering wheel and she just gets in there and drives off right as
- 1:01:58the mystery man is. Approaching the van, which we
- 1:02:01know who this is at this point, like I've been saying it since
- 1:02:05halfway, or actually since the beginning.
- 1:02:07I was like, oh, the one guy's name was Willie.
- 1:02:11This guy's name is Bill. Bet he was Willie.
- 1:02:14Definitely. Yep.
- 1:02:15So he calls her on the cell phone while she's driving.
- 1:02:18She's like, hey, like, no, she. Called.
- 1:02:20This is what makes it worse. She calls him because she wants
- 1:02:23his help, because she he is a trusted adult in her life.
- 1:02:27And she's like, Bill, I can't get a hold of anybody else.
- 1:02:30But I found Mary Banner's body. She's like, it's hard to
- 1:02:33explain. He's like, where are you?
- 1:02:34And she's like, I'm going to the cemetery.
- 1:02:36Isn't crazy that the solution is not called the cops?
- 1:02:38I found the remains, but I guess at this point you they've kind
- 1:02:41of made it aware or clear that you don't call the cops because
- 1:02:44the cops do not help. Yes, and also if your dad has an
- 1:02:47in with the cops and he can explain the situation with a
- 1:02:49little bit more finesse and maybe like kind of grease some
- 1:02:52hands. Yeah, true.
- 1:02:54So she arrives at the cemetery and they make it to the
- 1:02:59tombstone and they're starting to dig it up, but the.
- 1:03:01Ground is frozen, so Bill's like, don't worry, I'll take
- 1:03:05care of this. And Sam is just like, she's so
- 1:03:10sincere explaining all of this to him, like, she really
- 1:03:13believes her own bullshit. And she really trusts this man.
- 1:03:17And he's like, I'll take care of this sweetheart.
- 1:03:19And she sits there, her back to him, and he goes, so who else
- 1:03:22did you tell about this? And she was like, just David.
- 1:03:25He was like, your mom doesn't know.
- 1:03:26And she was like, no. And then he just fucking whacks
- 1:03:29her with the shovel. Bonk.
- 1:03:31Yep, right on the head. Knocks her out.
- 1:03:34But here's The thing is that Sam had no reason to suspect him, so
- 1:03:38she wasn't like trying to be sneaky or anything, She just
- 1:03:41legitimately didn't think to mention that Grace was there
- 1:03:44with her. Yeah, which worked out in favor.
- 1:03:47Yeah, she tackles Bill down to the ground.
- 1:03:50Fuck yeah, Grace. If we don't get Reese, at least
- 1:03:53we get Grace. Yeah, it's true.
- 1:03:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:03:55Sam goes running and Bill starts to chase after her.
- 1:04:00They have like a little fight that ensues here.
- 1:04:02She tries to attack him, but he is bigger and older and more
- 1:04:06motivated to not be arrested for murder, so he ends up knocking
- 1:04:10her out and he starts to drag her over to the grave.
- 1:04:13Puts the shovel right up to the jugular about to decapitate.
- 1:04:17But before he does that, he kind of kicks Mary's bones to get
- 1:04:21them out of the way, which puts them in the grave.
- 1:04:25And pisses her off. And she comes up.
- 1:04:27Dude, I like this because the song plays.
- 1:04:30That's the song that they were dancing to at the beginning of
- 1:04:32like the prom when they were leaving and the lights start to
- 1:04:36flicker on the van and everything starts to go on and
- 1:04:39then, yeah, it's like Mary. It's not Bloody Mary, it's Mary.
- 1:04:42And she kisses him. And then she kills him with
- 1:04:45Microsoft Movie Effects. Yeah, bad, bad, bad, not good.
- 1:04:54I think that's a band. No, it's a song by MF Doom.
- 1:04:57I oh, you know, I think you can. I think, I think this is the
- 1:05:01part where Mary Lambert's like, and now they know that's a
- 1:05:03ghost. Yeah.
- 1:05:05See Microsoft Movie. Yeah, we did good.
- 1:05:09I imagine her as like the mouse going.
- 1:05:14Ghost so. Like watched scooby-doo with her
- 1:05:20whole heart when she was younger and she was just like Oh my God,
- 1:05:24old man Jenkins. Oh my gosh, old man Jenkins.
- 1:05:27But why in? Fact.
- 1:05:28We didn't get a mask for Ville. Here.
- 1:05:31Damn shame. In the morning, Sam is just
- 1:05:34still sitting out there in the freezing temperatures, but she's
- 1:05:37had her head wrapped so don't worry, it's fine.
- 1:05:39Her mom is not there because the cops still don't give a damn
- 1:05:41about notifying parents about anything in this town.
- 1:05:44She's dealing with David. OK?
- 1:05:46Like they called her to David's crime scene.
- 1:05:48Yeah. Probably, maybe, maybe.
- 1:05:50Yeah, who knows? That's the other side of the
- 1:05:52story that we're not getting here.
- 1:05:54Yeah, but we learned that Bill is officially being declared as
- 1:05:57having died of a heart attack. And Sam's just like, man, what a
- 1:06:03wild urban legend. And Grace is like, you're the
- 1:06:05urban legend. What kind of urban you?
- 1:06:08So it's like the urban legend of Bloody Mary Part 2, but like,
- 1:06:12what was her urban legend? She's still alive.
- 1:06:15I yeah, I don't know that. Was a dumb line.
- 1:06:17That was a dumb line. Doesn't make any sense.
- 1:06:20Yeah, like girl believes in ghost story was actually her
- 1:06:23dad. Yeah.
- 1:06:25OK dad bonk with shovel. Kill kill brother with bag.
- 1:06:29It just sounds like an episode of Buffy like.
- 1:06:32Dude I think the better urban legend that spawned from this is
- 1:06:36what happened with Don Chinks and Buck.
- 1:06:39What's the urban like? You can do so many things to
- 1:06:42like what happened that led to him being kicked out does.
- 1:06:45Don Shanks actually think he murdered Buck.
- 1:06:50I think he. Did he?
- 1:06:51Did he spike? Did he put the finger in the
- 1:06:53bourbon? He may have.
- 1:06:55I think he blacked out and he doesn't remember what happened.
- 1:06:58She's like. He's like, I probably killed him
- 1:07:00like I've wanted to, yeah. Fucking chin strap, I tried to
- 1:07:03tell him. Like he's like, I really just
- 1:07:07wanted to roofie him so I can shave his face while he's
- 1:07:09asleep. Yeah, then I put a finger in the
- 1:07:12bottle and it just got all jumbled up from there.
- 1:07:14He's just escalating. He got out of hand and I like
- 1:07:18this is the post credits scene where he's like explaining his
- 1:07:21side of events to the cops and then I killed Mary.
- 1:07:23Oops. Damn.
- 1:07:27But I never really do anything because she was a ghost.
- 1:07:29You can't kill a ghost. This is an urban legend, guys.
- 1:07:33And then like it like cuts over. And it was Rebecca Gayhart doing
- 1:07:37the interview the entire time. Do you do you want that to be
- 1:07:40her sequel? Yes.
- 1:07:41Like what it is that right there?
- 1:07:43What happened with Don Shanks in book?
- 1:07:45Yeah, you got a whole other movie is worth of material right
- 1:07:50there. Yeah.
- 1:07:51I wanna see it. OK.
- 1:07:52OK. All right.
- 1:07:54So we've talked about it. Do we feel differently?
- 1:07:57No. OK, listen, there are fun things
- 1:08:01to talk about with this movie, and there's a better movie
- 1:08:03inside of this movie, but unfortunately, we got what we
- 1:08:06got. Yeah, I still believe in the
- 1:08:07Urban Legend franchise and I think if they came out with
- 1:08:10something in 2026, I would be all for it.
- 1:08:12That's that's one that's prime for a reboot.
- 1:08:15I think if they did it now they would focus on creepypastas.
- 1:08:19Yes, absolutely. Like there's always gonna be
- 1:08:21like a wealth of material, you know what I mean?
- 1:08:24So I think we could easily do something with that.
- 1:08:26I'm surprised that hasn't happened already, to be honest.
- 1:08:29But yeah, I'm, I'm down for it. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:08:32I'm not changing my score. It I mean, it is what it is,
- 1:08:34man. Can you imagine like the the
- 1:08:37dancing man creepypasta? Like you just have a puffy.
- 1:08:41You mean the smiling? Man, Yeah, the smiling man.
- 1:08:43Yeah, just have like a puffy coat person with like a mask
- 1:08:46over top and they're just like doing a dance down the sidewalk.
- 1:08:49With somebody that's fucking creepy.
- 1:08:51Yeah. Jeff the killer?
- 1:08:52Yes. Like there's, there's so many
- 1:08:55options with it and I really hope that they will, you know,
- 1:08:58they've had a 20 year break from this and they've maybe learned
- 1:09:01some lessons. Yeah, make this happen.
- 1:09:04We can do. This Maybe they realize that,
- 1:09:07you know, having Bloody Mary be the name of the movie and the
- 1:09:11primary urban legend, and also immediately naming one of the
- 1:09:17dead teens is Mary. And maybe that's not such a hard
- 1:09:23leap for people to take. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:26OK, lessons can be learned here. Well, we know how we feel, but
- 1:09:30how did Talia feel? Are we keeping our scores the
- 1:09:34same? Yeah, I said I did 4.5 too.
- 1:09:37I didn't know if we actually said that out loud.
- 1:09:40All right, so Talia, she was pretty restless during this
- 1:09:42movie. I think it made her nervous
- 1:09:45because she like that's the time when her guard is most down is
- 1:09:48when we're all asleep together, which is not ideal, but she has
- 1:09:51to sleep sometimes and she wants to sleep in the bed with us.
- 1:09:54So unfortunately, that means the house is left to Zoe's
- 1:09:57protection. That's true.
- 1:09:59And their alliance is new, so it's still kind of stressful to
- 1:10:03her. Yeah.
- 1:10:04So I think this movie brought up a lot of fears for her.
- 1:10:07Also the dog licking the hand when she licks my hand all the
- 1:10:10time. Yeah.
- 1:10:11And that, I think, really upset her.
- 1:10:13Yeah, yeah. So I think Talia, and honestly I
- 1:10:18think Talia liked this more than we did.
- 1:10:19I think she would give this A6. I think so too.
- 1:10:22You know, it poised the dogs better yeah than it does humans,
- 1:10:25maybe. Maybe this was meant for dogs?
- 1:10:27Yeah, we just also get to. Enjoy.
- 1:10:29Like Talia didn't realize that Mary Banner was Bloody Mary.
- 1:10:32That was a revelation. Her mind, yeah, she didn't know
- 1:10:35it was like a ghost until the very.
- 1:10:37End Yeah, she's. Like, oh, she's like, oh,
- 1:10:39Scooby-doo. She loves Scooby-doo, so yeah,
- 1:10:42it's all coming together. OK, Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:10:49This is tough. This is tough, I think.
- 1:10:53I'm going to say Grace because she gets high on catnip and
- 1:10:57fucks things up all the time so she also likes the whole getting
- 1:11:02high and fucking shit up. Zoe's the mellow one on catnip.
- 1:11:05Scout's the one that wants to wrestle.
- 1:11:07You're right. Scout gets real wrestly when
- 1:11:09she's high. You're.
- 1:11:09Right, OK, it's not, it's not Grace then.
- 1:11:12OK, maybe Heather, because Heather drops off the history
- 1:11:19book and she's like, here, deal with this.
- 1:11:22Aren't you proud of me? That's kind of how Zoe is when
- 1:11:24she catches things. That's true, yeah.
- 1:11:26And then also like, she catches things in her mouth, which is
- 1:11:30kind of what Heather was doing with the spiders.
- 1:11:34Also, Zoe's more intentional with it.
- 1:11:35Other than me, she's the one that deals with spiders than
- 1:11:39those. Yeah, because she, like, she has
- 1:11:41No Fear of spiders. Yeah, we have to.
- 1:11:43Like, honestly, a lot of times I'm like, I don't know what kind
- 1:11:45of spider that is. Please don't put it in your
- 1:11:47mouth like I love. I have to chase.
- 1:11:49Her. I love that she attacks them.
- 1:11:51Honestly I love that we have a fearless cat that's just like
- 1:11:53you have 8 legs and I don't give a fuck.
- 1:11:58I got 2 Biggins right here. Oh God, the worst time was when
- 1:12:02she chased a millipede. Get them in, I fucking love it.
- 1:12:06Fuck them up. Like I will come in and finish
- 1:12:09the job, but I like that she just like incapacitates them.
- 1:12:11She does that's she's a fucking sadistical cat.
- 1:12:16She'll like RIP all of their legs off.
- 1:12:18She would be, she would be so heartbroken if she heard you
- 1:12:23call her sadistic in that context because she'd be like,
- 1:12:25I'm doing it for the family I love.
- 1:12:28It man, that's a good thing I. Mean she'd be like Sir.
- 1:12:31I stomped them. Is that not sadistic?
- 1:12:34I mean from the from the bugs perspective, yeah.
- 1:12:36Exactly. That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:12:39OK, OK, what do we do now? Yeah, all right, we've done.
- 1:12:45Who did I relate to? Yeah.
- 1:12:47Oh boy. I think I related to Grace.
- 1:12:52I like the idea of like, like getting real high and like
- 1:12:56scaring kids about like urban legends.
- 1:12:59Like you're coming in my home. I'm going to.
- 1:13:02I'm going to make you spooked. I think, I guess I'd probably
- 1:13:07relate to Sam because I would very easily be like, yeah, I
- 1:13:11mean, it probably is a ghost. Like I would.
- 1:13:14I would like, oh, there's a potential that being you guys.
- 1:13:17It's probably Ghost then. Yeah, I could see that.
- 1:13:20Yeah. You're and, you know, I, I would
- 1:13:22also relate to David in that sense where I'm not one to
- 1:13:25really believe the ghostliness of things.
- 1:13:27Oh. My God, David.
- 1:13:30Oh David, should we had one of those in this.
- 1:13:33Way David. Oh OK, reviews.
- 1:13:41Do we have reviews? Yeah, I think it is time for
- 1:13:43reviews. Time reviews.
- 1:13:44Oh wait, tagline. Yeah, we have to do it.
- 1:13:46God, Tubey messes us up. Yeah, it does.
- 1:13:49All right. Tagline Tagline.
- 1:13:54Her revenge is legendary. Her venge is legendary.
- 1:13:59That's basically the first tagline.
- 1:14:01I don't remember what the taglines were.
- 1:14:02I'm going to be really honest with you.
- 1:14:04OK, it was beyond Mary's evil is beyond legend.
- 1:14:09Yeah, but mine's better because it's not about her being evil,
- 1:14:12it's about her having revenge, which is a little bit more
- 1:14:14nervous and complicated, rather than calling a murdered girl
- 1:14:18evil. Yeah, I guess, yeah.
- 1:14:22Same story, new generation. I like, I like that.
- 1:14:29Say it three times for the good times.
- 1:14:32What does that even mean? What do you marry?
- 1:14:35What is for the good times mean? Just good times, man, Having fun
- 1:14:40out there with Buddy Mary. I don't know, because maybe
- 1:14:45Buddy Mary doesn't have to always show up to just like kill
- 1:14:48people. Like maybe she has Buddy Marys.
- 1:14:50She's like, who wants Buddy Marys?
- 1:14:55It could be, you know, like people like got their people
- 1:14:58regularly get the wrong idea about me, but I'm here for a
- 1:15:01good time, not for like, not that kind of blessed.
- 1:15:05Urban Legend 3 Bloody Mary just like brunch.
- 1:15:09I think he. There we go.
- 1:15:11That's. Just like brunch.
- 1:15:13Let's do that. Brunch is so fucking powerful.
- 1:15:19Crunch is so fucking real. So.
- 1:15:21Fucking real, yeah. Thank you.
- 1:15:23I can't remember what adjective he is.
- 1:15:25No, I mean, it's just like, yeah, people get their name
- 1:15:28wrong. They just, they forget that.
- 1:15:29Ease, buddy. Mary Ease.
- 1:15:31Yeah, OK, there we go. Extra Tabasco.
- 1:15:34Please don't mine. All right, cool.
- 1:15:37All right so now we can do reviews.
- 1:15:41OK so this time I decided to go with a non IMDb review.
- 1:15:46OK I went with Dread central again.
- 1:15:50It was the same thing where they were calling out.
- 1:15:51They were like they did a preview but they also did a
- 1:15:53review. OK, so this is.
- 1:15:55A preview review. Yeah, though it still felt a bit
- 1:16:00choppy, in part since I'm pretty sure it wasn't a final edit.
- 1:16:03The flick still moves along at a relatively good pace until the
- 1:16:06kill stop and our main characters learn just what Mary
- 1:16:09is trying to do and try to stop her.
- 1:16:11At that point, the movie slows way down, so much so that it's
- 1:16:14almost enough to negate the fairly interesting, if not
- 1:16:16excessively hokey at some point, story that came before.
- 1:16:20The characters are pretty much your typical mix, with the lead
- 1:16:24girl supposedly some kind of nerd, though her and her
- 1:16:26friends, none of which could get dates to the dance, are
- 1:16:29incredibly cute, at least for high school girls.
- 1:16:32That's a weird comment to add in there.
- 1:16:34Man editors. Please.
- 1:16:36Please review lines like that that's.
- 1:16:38The thing like if I turn that into like my teacher like they
- 1:16:41would like highlight that and I put question marks like 3
- 1:16:44question marks on there like. One in red and then it says see
- 1:16:48me? Yeah.
- 1:16:50This adds a bit of unrealism to the whole jocks versus nerd
- 1:16:53secondary plot, but it's forgivable simply for the fact
- 1:16:56that you've seen it happen a million times before and and
- 1:17:00there's really nothing remarkable about Urban Legends
- 1:17:03Bloody Mary, which is a shame because its premise is 1 ripe
- 1:17:06with possibilities. Essentially, it's a throwback to
- 1:17:09the teen horror films of the Dark Ages we call the 90s, with
- 1:17:11some influence from more recent horror, notably the look of Mary
- 1:17:14herself, which screams out The Ring, but with a more
- 1:17:18intelligent script and more interesting characters.
- 1:17:20The film is due for a direct to DVD release on July 19th, but
- 1:17:23hopefully Sony will be nice enough to at least throw an
- 1:17:26extra or two on it, if nothing else to appease the vengeful
- 1:17:29spirits. I want to see whatever. 2 1/2
- 1:17:32out of five. I want to see whatever cut this
- 1:17:34guy saw. I know I've my theory is it's
- 1:17:38the same. Yeah, I guess the line for
- 1:17:42teenagers is kind of a red flag. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:46All right, you know, 2 1/2 I make some good points like the
- 1:17:49pacing is a little bit weird and that is.
- 1:17:51Strange. But here's The thing is that the
- 1:17:52pacing. I would say it's the opposite.
- 1:17:55The beginning is a little bit slow and weird, and then it
- 1:17:58picks up more towards the end. Yeah, no, I, I think you're
- 1:18:01right actually. Like it's just, I don't know,
- 1:18:05like, I mean, this movie is just very much like it is what it is.
- 1:18:08Deal with it. It's not a great.
- 1:18:10Fuck you. Yeah, but it's fine.
- 1:18:13It's fine for some people. OK, so let's do some listener
- 1:18:18reviews. OK, First off we have cube saves
- 1:18:21I'm. Impressed.
- 1:18:22We have reviews. We got more This movie doesn't
- 1:18:26exist. It's that forgettable.
- 1:18:28I mean, yeah. We forgot about it and we've
- 1:18:31watched it before. Yeah, together.
- 1:18:33Yeah, even. Yeah, and we now own it on DVD,
- 1:18:36which, Yeah, OK. Next up we have Michael E Howard
- 1:18:42who sits Urban Legends. Bloody Mary was OK, the acting
- 1:18:47was decent, the killers were OK, but didn't feel it really
- 1:18:49brought anything new and fun with it.
- 1:18:51I wish it just didn't have the Urban Legends name.
- 1:18:53It seems more of a supernatural revenge movie and just a simple
- 1:18:56old watch. 6 1/2 out of 10. OK, All right.
- 1:19:00Yeah, I can respect that. I mean, I do like that they do
- 1:19:03sneak in a lot of urban legends in there.
- 1:19:05Yeah. But it is kind of weird to have
- 1:19:07an urban legend like based off of like an urban legends movie
- 1:19:10based off of 1 urban legend. Yeah.
- 1:19:12And then it is also weird that it goes from serial killer to
- 1:19:17supernatural and I get why, like they were trying to stick with
- 1:19:20what was popular, but it is a weird shift.
- 1:19:26So I I wonder if we would think of this differently if it
- 1:19:29wasn't. No, I think I'd still call it a
- 1:19:314 1/2 because I haven't even really been mostly comparing it
- 1:19:33to the other ones. I haven't either, no.
- 1:19:35As it stands, I think 4 1/2 is pretty much right.
- 1:19:37But you know, like, I mean, it does have like some good too.
- 1:19:41They're just good to be seen there.
- 1:19:43It's just there's a lot of bad that overshadows it, I feel.
- 1:19:46Yeah. Yeah, but, you know, some people
- 1:19:48enjoy it. Yeah.
- 1:19:50OK. OK.
- 1:19:51All right. And that's it for reviews.
- 1:19:52So thanks, everybody for submitting those.
- 1:19:54Always love it when we get those on here.
- 1:19:56All right, so that's it for this week.
- 1:19:59We're gonna be closing out prom month next week.
- 1:20:04You guys, part of the reason we started doing Texas Chainsaw as
- 1:20:08our next franchise was because Travis did the math and realized
- 1:20:11that we could cover next generation in prom month if we
- 1:20:15started it when we. Did and it is a Texas Chainsaw
- 1:20:18Massacre movie with prom. So it is all right.
- 1:20:21So Texas Chainsaw Massacre Next Generation is currently
- 1:20:25available for rent on YouTube, Google Play, Fandango at Home,
- 1:20:30or Prime. If you've not seen this,
- 1:20:31seriously, spend the $4.00 to watch.
- 1:20:33Hold on, let me check. It was on shutter recently so.
- 1:20:36Let me make sure yeah, Shutter doesn't like to pop up on my.
- 1:20:39OK, it's gone now. It was only there for a month,
- 1:20:41so we missed that. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:20:44Look, man, I'm just going to say it.
- 1:20:47This isn't the best one, but if you're looking for an
- 1:20:49interesting watch, absolutely watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre
- 1:20:53The Next Generation because you might not like it, but you'll
- 1:20:57have an experience to share. Matthew McConaughey.
- 1:21:03Yeah, enough said. Also, Renee Zellweger.
- 1:21:06Renee Zellweger. It's fucking bonkers.
- 1:21:10That's just the tip of the iceberg it gets.
- 1:21:12Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews Band.
- 1:21:17Not really. But no, no, I was doing that
- 1:21:20cadence, so I needed to keep it up.
- 1:21:21Yeah. So yeah, if you can watch it, I
- 1:21:24absolutely recommend it. Be prepared because we're going
- 1:21:27to be talking. About it next week.
- 1:21:28It's a movie that I firmly believe any horror fan should
- 1:21:31watch at least once in their lives.
- 1:21:33Dude, it's the one that got me into, well, maybe not got me
- 1:21:36entirely into, but it was a big part of me being a big fan of
- 1:21:40the franchise as a kid. So.
- 1:21:42Just to say, OK, so there we go. We got this one done.
