- 0:14Speaker 2: The World's a Pigeon podcast. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. That's
- 0:24Speaker 2: different than using your hand.
- 0:26Speaker 3: It's the hand that's the striking.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I know that's what it is. But stop Huters has
- 0:30Speaker 2: a system.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I mean, we don't have to go into the minutia
- 0:32Speaker 3: of at all. It's a system, but it's a system
- 0:34Speaker 3: of being a hard owe push.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Ups on the field.
- 0:37Speaker 3: But you know who he reminds us what he's talking.
- 0:39Speaker 2: He reminds me of.
- 0:40Speaker 3: You can say Ted Williams, Do I speak Fred?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Or do I speak Friend?
- 0:43Speaker 3: What was Ted Williams like Fred? You you probably saw him?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, I remember when he was a kid. When
- 0:49Speaker 2: I was young. Was yaz bread. They had like this
- 0:51Speaker 2: really bad white bread that they would sell Rico Petrocelli
- 0:55Speaker 2: and Tony Conigliaro.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You know, great, everyone's mocking you right now, you know that, right,
- 1:00Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I know I'm old. And he also says it's Paul
- 1:04Speaker 2: losing weight. He's looking good.
- 1:07Speaker 4: No.
- 1:07Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Presented by Toyota's official website, for deals buy a Toyota
- 1:13Speaker 5: dot Com.
- 1:16Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:20Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium and we're back in our studio. We
- 1:23Speaker 2: gotta get a sponsor for the studio.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, something especials a name. Absolutely.
- 1:30Speaker 6: I like that little lead, like it was just like
- 1:32Speaker 6: faded in. It was like Fred kersh Like it was
- 1:34Speaker 6: a comforting like there's Fred. There's the leader of Patriots Nation.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Patriots Unfiltered, come join us. Yeah, yeah, wasn't that like?
- 1:44Speaker 2: All right, So it's Deuce, it's Paul, it's me, it's
- 1:47Speaker 2: Matt Nabooth. Will anybody else be by later?
- 1:50Speaker 3: I believe we might want to Yeah, in the second hour.
- 1:52Speaker 7: Okay, we've got offensive coaches with Alex van Pelt going,
- 1:56Speaker 7: So Evan and Tamara and Alex they'll be out there.
- 1:58Speaker 2: You know. What we should have them do is like
- 2:00Speaker 2: when they have because this is going to be an
- 2:02Speaker 2: issue because now practices are a little later than they
- 2:05Speaker 2: have been. So in the past Evan would be here,
- 2:08Speaker 2: but then he would go and then come back from
- 2:10Speaker 2: We're not gonna be able to do that anymore.
- 2:12Speaker 7: Right, It's well, I mean, I don't know how deep
- 2:13Speaker 7: in the weeds you want to get Fred. But I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 7: according to you know, what the schedule might be. I mean,
- 2:17Speaker 7: there's a chance that you know, we might be in
- 2:19Speaker 7: locker room sometimes at the start of when Patriots and
- 2:22Speaker 7: Filter discobed.
- 2:24Speaker 2: But I was thinking that that's okay. But let's have
- 2:28Speaker 2: Evan call in from the practice field and we'll get
- 2:30Speaker 2: a live report from the field onto the show.
- 2:33Speaker 7: Sure, don't even need to look at him. Don't you
- 2:34Speaker 7: need to have them come in, Just call us and
- 2:36Speaker 7: then do your own thing that works, We'll be fine.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, And I'm gonna maybe we'll need a theme
- 2:41Speaker 2: song for that. I was just gonna throw was calling in.
- 2:45Speaker 7: Evan's got a song. We don't need to do that.
- 2:47Speaker 7: I'm just saying, I'm throwing it out there, Jill. It
- 2:49Speaker 7: might be do seven Untime era and now it's coming
- 2:52Speaker 7: back from the locker room. What happened in the locker room?
- 2:54Speaker 7: That kind of song. So I don't know, maybe put
- 2:56Speaker 7: that in the pipeline. I'm just saying, we might come in,
- 2:58Speaker 7: we might be coming in hot in the locker room,
- 3:01Speaker 7: you know, with all kinds of information, So it might
- 3:03Speaker 7: be might kind of it might be you two guys,
- 3:04Speaker 7: you know, starting things off me.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I want to leave you.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Fred Ball has always been by myself, all right, Uh,
- 3:13Speaker 2: just a little sad too while we're talking about people.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Congratulations to Andy Hart pfw alum who now has the
- 3:21Speaker 2: Drive Time Show Afternoon Drivetime Show, and w e e
- 3:25Speaker 2: I that's.
- 3:26Speaker 7: I'm excited about my future Dighton hov right, So.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yeah, will he resign after one day?
- 3:32Speaker 7: Well it's pretty cool because we were all sitting with
- 3:34Speaker 7: Andy on the bleachers yesterday when the news kind of
- 3:36Speaker 7: got announced and you know, got to embarrass him a
- 3:38Speaker 7: little bit and get me around to applause. Probably nice for
- 3:40Speaker 7: your Fred to see one of your another one of
- 3:41Speaker 7: your one of your guys.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm pleased. I'm really pleased. I go. You know, Andy,
- 3:46Speaker 2: you paid, you do is working for you. You know
- 3:49Speaker 2: he can't even like, you know, take a compliment. You
- 3:52Speaker 2: know I didn't.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, he's such a blockhead.
- 3:56Speaker 6: But anyway, so he's gonna be yes, everybody, you can
- 3:59Speaker 6: get it out now.
- 4:00Speaker 2: By the way, he'll be co hosting that with Christian Arkan,
- 4:03Speaker 2: who you know are game for us part time. So
- 4:07Speaker 2: everything that we touch turns the gold for me.
- 4:12Speaker 7: That's the Andy ca Well, I just it's competing with
- 4:14Speaker 7: your show, though, Paul, I mean your your.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Your my show. I think we're gonna have some fun
- 4:19Speaker 2: with Andy the afternoon. Maybe we'll call in.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Roger from Froger Yeah, yeah, no.
- 4:24Speaker 6: But in all seriousness, I am really happy for him. Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 6: he's excited about it, and I'm really happy for him.
- 4:29Speaker 6: And he did pay his due.
- 4:30Speaker 2: He paid his due, he did those weekends and those holidays.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Keep being here five years now, right, so he's been
- 4:35Speaker 3: going five years.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't seem tho.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Well you know, it's because.
- 4:39Speaker 2: He was so pain in. My neck still hurts, so
- 4:42Speaker 2: it doesn't seem that long. Yeah, all right, So that's
- 4:45Speaker 2: that's that we're obviously we want to talk about Drake May.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We've got the game coming up Sunday night.
- 4:51Speaker 8: Uh.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yesterday, in practice, uh, Joe Milton took a lot of
- 4:56Speaker 2: reps and I turned to you, probably is this in
- 4:58Speaker 2: preparation for Sunday Night? I think you think it is.
- 5:01Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 6: I think that Zappie and Milton took more reps yesterday
- 5:04Speaker 6: than they have probably in the last two weeks, which
- 5:07Speaker 6: tells me they're probably going to see significant time, maybe
- 5:10Speaker 6: the whole second half with those guys. I wonder if
- 5:13Speaker 6: maybe it's it's pre set for a quick, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 6: series and maybe a series O two for May.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And then then that's it the rest for these guys.
- 5:21Speaker 6: I'd like to see a little more of May, but
- 5:24Speaker 6: you know, beggars can't be choosers.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yesterday I didn't stay for the whole practice, but from
- 5:29Speaker 2: what I read, May for the first time with under
- 5:33Speaker 2: center with David Andrews. But they were all running plays, right.
- 5:38Speaker 7: I'm going to use my quote that I used on
- 5:40Speaker 7: them this morning, which I thought of last night while
- 5:41Speaker 7: I was at Pink counting some cocktails, was like anytime
- 5:44Speaker 7: Drake May's hands getting near David Andrews, but everybody's like
- 5:46Speaker 7: it's happening, it's happening. We've been talking about it for
- 5:49Speaker 7: two weeks, like every time he takes a snap from
- 5:51Speaker 7: David and perhaps they're setting the stage for Drake, like
- 5:54Speaker 7: until he gets in there, one's offense versus one defense,
- 5:58Speaker 7: live situationally, there's nothing there, like they're scrambling on the
- 6:02Speaker 7: offensive line. They have to take. You know, numerous guys
- 6:06Speaker 7: at center that have been getting even opportunity so you know,
- 6:09Speaker 7: he takes a couple of snaps of David Andrews great,
- 6:11Speaker 7: Like it didn't it didn't really mean anything. It was
- 6:13Speaker 7: not really a competitive practice at all.
- 6:14Speaker 2: But it is something that hasn't happened.
- 6:16Speaker 7: I mean he's taken some snaps from time to I
- 6:18Speaker 7: mean seen him like yeah, like you know, just occasionally,
- 6:21Speaker 7: but it's.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Not at all. He was he was like hot under
- 6:24Speaker 3: the bar.
- 6:25Speaker 7: It was and I just I mean, I think part
- 6:26Speaker 7: of it is that this whole training camp, we've watched
- 6:29Speaker 7: all the practices, I know, everything that I think about
- 6:32Speaker 7: Drake May. And you know, meanwhile, on the outside, there's
- 6:34Speaker 7: just this like narrow roller coaster of a narrative about
- 6:37Speaker 7: who God, he's terrible, Who God, he's amazing, Like, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 7: it's just been kind of even keeled, and like Paul
- 6:42Speaker 7: and I were talking before the show, like certainly got
- 6:45Speaker 7: beat up against the Eagles in the joint practice, but
- 6:47Speaker 7: then in the game showed a little bit like he
- 6:49Speaker 7: had in his good practices where a couple throws downfield
- 6:52Speaker 7: that all right, there's that you know, little athleticism thing,
- 6:54Speaker 7: you know, a little movement in the pocket. Nothing like
- 6:56Speaker 7: overwhelming and oh he just strunk together, you know, thirty amazing,
- 7:00Speaker 7: But it's just I see just kind of a consistent
- 7:03Speaker 7: you know, certainly ups and downs within that period of
- 7:06Speaker 7: that we've watched, but generally we've kind of seen the
- 7:08Speaker 7: same thing from Drake May overall. And it's good that
- 7:11Speaker 7: he's developing, but like I just I can't ride this
- 7:14Speaker 7: roller coaster of oh my god, he's terrible. We made
- 7:16Speaker 7: the wrong decision too. He needs to start next week
- 7:19Speaker 7: or else like that. It's just crazy to me.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I I was going over it, and you know, the
- 7:25Speaker 2: reason is to start him right away, to have him
- 7:27Speaker 2: wait and for how long? And I was thinking, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 2: first of all, I still think you should start week one,
- 7:34Speaker 2: assuming he's ready. But I still think you should start
- 7:37Speaker 2: week one. But even if he doesn't start week one,
- 7:41Speaker 2: the sooner you get him in, the better. And I
- 7:43Speaker 2: was coming I came up with a golf analogy. Are
- 7:45Speaker 2: you listening, hardy? And the analogy is, Drake May is
- 7:51Speaker 2: a good golfer, but he's got no money. So the
- 7:54Speaker 2: first year he's golfing, he's playing with rented clubs or
- 7:57Speaker 2: you know, really crappy club you know, balls he may
- 8:01Speaker 2: have borrowed from the range on these really bad golf courses.
- 8:05Speaker 2: But he's a good player. You know. Second year, the
- 8:09Speaker 2: Patriots get a high draft pick, we load up, we
- 8:13Speaker 2: get a lot of players, blah blah blah, a lot
- 8:14Speaker 2: of tools. So that second year, that same golfer, Now
- 8:18Speaker 2: he's got fitted clubs and real good balls, and he's
- 8:21Speaker 2: playing on pristine things, and as good as he was
- 8:24Speaker 2: the year before. Now he appreciates, he understands the difference,
- 8:28Speaker 2: and he's going to be able to take advantage. So
- 8:30Speaker 2: the bottom line is the more experience he gets playing
- 8:34Speaker 2: with bad things around him, and you know, I mean that,
- 8:38Speaker 2: you know, in a respectful way, but without the best conditions,
- 8:41Speaker 2: the better he's going to be next year, for that
- 8:45Speaker 2: if they do get better tools around him. So you
- 8:48Speaker 2: can't listen. You don't want to get him killed. I
- 8:53Speaker 2: don't think that's going to happen though, But.
- 8:55Speaker 3: You also you can't operate as if well, I can't
- 8:59Speaker 3: put him in because going.
- 9:00Speaker 7: To get killed.
- 9:00Speaker 2: No, you can't play like that.
- 9:02Speaker 1: No.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And and by the way, Jacoby Brissette's lives matter too,
- 9:06Speaker 2: you know, so well, you know, why are we putting
- 9:08Speaker 2: anybody back there if they're going to get killed. I
- 9:11Speaker 2: don't think that's they don't think that's going to happen.
- 9:14Speaker 2: And you know, there was a little development for Darian
- 9:16Speaker 2: Lowe had an upper body something. I think that you know,
- 9:20Speaker 2: Wallace comes in. I think the plan is to have
- 9:24Speaker 2: Wallace in there eventually. And I think this might have
- 9:27Speaker 2: hastened that where right guard, right tackle, right tackle, I
- 9:31Speaker 2: mean right tackle.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Oh, I think you could play right tackle, he has
- 9:34Speaker 6: to play left.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I'm not sure that that's well.
- 9:37Speaker 2: He's he's going to be on the line at some
- 9:39Speaker 2: point as a star.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 9:40Speaker 7: That's the great unknown for me is you don't know.
- 9:43Speaker 7: I mean, I'm not saying that he's going to be great.
- 9:45Speaker 7: You just don't know that he's going to be terrible
- 9:47Speaker 7: or great yet. And some of these guys competent. You
- 9:49Speaker 7: just need competent. But yeah, I like your analogy the
- 9:52Speaker 7: freend and I would kind of along the lines of
- 9:53Speaker 7: what I've been thinking of coming out of this year,
- 9:55Speaker 7: like and I'll use your analogy. I want him to
- 9:58Speaker 7: go through a round at Augusta and know what it's like,
- 10:00Speaker 7: you know, so and I say that as like the
- 10:02Speaker 7: Jets or Buffalo or to get some experience against these
- 10:05Speaker 7: teams that he is going to have to beat to
- 10:07Speaker 7: get to the playoffs. What's it like to play in Buffalo,
- 10:10Speaker 7: what's it like to play down in Miami. I don't know.
- 10:12Speaker 7: He might get his doors blown off, but I think
- 10:14Speaker 7: there's value in that and that especially you got a
- 10:17Speaker 7: young team. Look, guys, we're gonna come in here, We're
- 10:18Speaker 7: gonna these guys kick our butts. Yeah, let's remember this,
- 10:21Speaker 7: and you start to form that you know, baseline of
- 10:23Speaker 7: all right, we've been here, these guys kicked our butts
- 10:25Speaker 7: last time. We're back. Now we're a better team in
- 10:28Speaker 7: twenty twenty five. You know, you start to build that narrative.
- 10:31Speaker 7: I think those are the most important things. I don't
- 10:32Speaker 7: care if he starts the first few weeks. He just
- 10:34Speaker 7: he has to get in there, you know, by like November.
- 10:37Speaker 7: To me or else, that's bad. And I think I've
- 10:39Speaker 7: been consistent with that since they drafted him. I don't
- 10:42Speaker 7: need him to start week one. He's got to play
- 10:44Speaker 7: this year, though, Yeah, I mean.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's up to the coaching to make
- 10:50Speaker 2: sure he doesn't develop bad habits, right, yeah, But beyond that, like, okay,
- 10:55Speaker 2: so this year, I'm throwing the guys who weren't quite
- 10:58Speaker 2: good on their routes. You know, they were learning with
- 11:01Speaker 2: me when I placed.
- 11:03Speaker 7: Them in their hands.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't have quite the time I should have
- 11:06Speaker 2: had on every play, but to have that experience and
- 11:11Speaker 2: then next year, assuming that all those things improve, he's
- 11:15Speaker 2: going to be so much better for that.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, like, I couldn't agree more.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But it's hard to say. But you know, we all
- 11:21Speaker 2: played other sports that required equipment, you know, whether it's
- 11:25Speaker 2: golf or tennis. You start off with playing with crappy stuff,
- 11:29Speaker 2: and then you appreciate when you get the good stuff
- 11:32Speaker 2: even that much more, you know. But if you start
- 11:35Speaker 2: with the good stuff, then sometimes you don't understand the difference.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's the whole thing about we can't put
- 11:40Speaker 6: him out there behind that offensive line, and to that point,
- 11:45Speaker 6: I think there's value to that, Like what you're talking about.
- 11:49Speaker 6: If you maybe they're not the greatest offensive line pass
- 11:51Speaker 6: protection wise, maybe you know, uh, but that that will
- 11:55Speaker 6: force him to make his reads quicker and understand what
- 11:58Speaker 6: he needs to do to operate. And then you know,
- 12:01Speaker 6: I don't know, if you get a left tackle in
- 12:04Speaker 6: the first round next year and you know, Cayden Wallace
- 12:07Speaker 6: in year two is now comfortable as the right tackle.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 12:11Speaker 6: Now we got now we got a pretty good offensive line.
- 12:13Speaker 6: How much easier will that make it for him? If
- 12:16Speaker 6: he's sort of learned, learned to adapt with no time,
- 12:20Speaker 6: But now you have time, right, he's.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Been hitting the balls off crappy lies all year. Now
- 12:24Speaker 2: he gets Christine Fairwell.
- 12:26Speaker 7: I mean you talk about Josh Allen, like, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 7: all of a sudden in digs he gets you know,
- 12:31Speaker 7: the custom driver and it's.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Like, well, whoa, how quickly did that come together immediately?
- 12:36Speaker 7: And I mean I said it kind of under my breath,
- 12:38Speaker 7: but like it's a pain in the butt that people
- 12:41Speaker 7: keep dropping these deep balls from him, and that's like
- 12:43Speaker 7: the element of this offense that they need. And you know,
- 12:45Speaker 7: we probably talk about Taekwon Thornton probably gonna be out
- 12:48Speaker 7: there and get a chance, like is he going to
- 12:50Speaker 7: catch these balls? Because that's really what's just bugging me
- 12:52Speaker 7: is that we finally have a quarterback who it's no
- 12:54Speaker 7: problem to get the ball down there.
- 12:57Speaker 2: They got to catch the ball.
- 12:58Speaker 7: Javon Baker, I mean Douglas you know, yes, which again
- 13:01Speaker 7: not like super competitive period. But still it's just I said,
- 13:05Speaker 7: I mean, I said in the stands, at what point
- 13:07Speaker 7: is he going to stop throwing it up for Javon
- 13:09Speaker 7: Baker because he's had no problem doing that all summer
- 13:12Speaker 7: and he's on a cold, cold, cold streak right now, Baker.
- 13:14Speaker 7: I mean, I think he had one catch yesterday. He
- 13:15Speaker 7: had another bad drop that I remember. He just and
- 13:19Speaker 7: I look at his body language and it seems like
- 13:21Speaker 7: he realizes he's fighting in a little bit, so you
- 13:24Speaker 7: need those guys to catch that ball for him, you know.
- 13:26Speaker 2: That's that that to me, is Thornton still doing okay
- 13:30Speaker 2: and he's okay.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I think he looks good.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I think he's had to find a guy that you know,
- 13:35Speaker 2: could be underneath some of those passes.
- 13:37Speaker 7: Right, And that's that's what I that's what I want
- 13:39Speaker 7: to see. And when we talk about Drake playing with
- 13:40Speaker 7: the ones, and you know I mentioned the throat of
- 13:42Speaker 7: Douglas that they didn't connect on, you know, you haven't
- 13:44Speaker 7: seen a ton of Drake with Douglas and Thornton. I
- 13:47Speaker 7: feel like and Thorton's been okay. I mean I wouldn't say, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 7: he's had a great camp. I think he's just been
- 13:52Speaker 7: fairly consistent. He's been out there and he's got an
- 13:54Speaker 7: element that nobody really else has on the roster with
- 13:56Speaker 7: the speed on the other side.
- 13:57Speaker 2: But this kid that they just picked up, I know,
- 13:59Speaker 2: he the guy off the street, but he's four to three.
- 14:02Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean he's a fast He tested really well
- 14:04Speaker 7: at the combine. I mean he's a height speed guy.
- 14:07Speaker 7: I mean he's you know, kicked around a lot. But
- 14:09Speaker 7: you see what they're kind of looking for. I mean
- 14:11Speaker 7: they understand, like we don't know if Jalen Raager and
- 14:14Speaker 7: Tekwon Thornton are gonna be able to get it done
- 14:15Speaker 7: on the outside this year. I mean, I think those
- 14:17Speaker 7: guys will probably have equal opportunity. For as much as
- 14:19Speaker 7: Thornton's getting all the buzz right now, I think right
- 14:22Speaker 7: now it's kind of you're in this time like that
- 14:24Speaker 7: doesn't seem like, Oh, it's his job and he's been
- 14:26Speaker 7: lighting it up and he's the number one. They're gonna
- 14:28Speaker 7: give him a chance. Hopefully he's able to stay healthy
- 14:31Speaker 7: and you know, string together some consistency.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I was reading something today because after this game on Sunday,
- 14:38Speaker 2: that Tuesday will be the deadline for cutdowns. You know,
- 14:41Speaker 2: sometimes teams don't always wait until the deadline. So you're
- 14:44Speaker 2: going to see a lot of player movement coming up,
- 14:48Speaker 2: you know, because most teams will have their game before Sunday.
- 14:50Speaker 7: I think there's just a trade actually between the Eagles
- 14:52Speaker 7: and the Commanders.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so you're going to see a lot
- 14:57Speaker 2: of things. But there was a new procedure rule change
- 15:00Speaker 2: this year regarding the injury list, you know, designated to return.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Now you don't have to wait for the guy to
- 15:09Speaker 2: be on the fifty three man roster to do that.
- 15:12Speaker 6: Yeah, you have two of them, but you can put
- 15:14Speaker 6: them when you get down to your fifty three on Tuesday.
- 15:17Speaker 3: You can do it. Then you don't have to wait
- 15:19Speaker 3: till Wednesday. Okay, that's the change.
- 15:21Speaker 6: Ok So, like in other words, Jake Andrews got placed
- 15:23Speaker 6: on injury reserve earlier in camp.
- 15:25Speaker 3: He's out for the year.
- 15:26Speaker 6: He can't return, Like you couldn't designate him to return.
- 15:30Speaker 6: But on Tuesday, when you get down to your fifty three,
- 15:34Speaker 6: you can take three guys whatever and say, well, they're
- 15:37Speaker 6: not ready to go, they're going to be They're going
- 15:38Speaker 6: to open the season on injury reserve.
- 15:40Speaker 2: So now you're down to fifty and you can add it,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and you.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Can and you can have three other people on the
- 15:44Speaker 3: roster right right?
- 15:45Speaker 7: And was there any I probably need to drill down
- 15:48Speaker 7: on this rule a little bit. But you have the
- 15:49Speaker 7: PUP guys who have started on POPP and have remained
- 15:52Speaker 7: on POPP and therefore are eligible to stay on PUP
- 15:54Speaker 7: for correct six weeks, seven weeks, four weeks, four weeks,
- 15:57Speaker 7: and IR as a minimum of two four four are
- 16:00Speaker 7: so there's no real is there really a difference then?
- 16:02Speaker 7: I mean, is there any kind of jockeying they have
- 16:04Speaker 7: to think about, like, hey, let's put this guy on
- 16:06Speaker 7: IR and so.
- 16:07Speaker 6: The difference is like Hunter Henry would be a candidate
- 16:10Speaker 6: to start on IR if and this.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Is because he didn't start right.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Because he can't go on PUP. That would be the difference,
- 16:17Speaker 6: my guess. And I think they're both four weeks now.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I think i R designated to return was three. Maybe
- 16:24Speaker 6: I'm confusing that that might still be three, but I
- 16:26Speaker 6: thought they.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Moved it to four.
- 16:27Speaker 2: One of them was six.
- 16:29Speaker 6: P UP definitely used to be six and now it's four, Okay,
- 16:34Speaker 6: So that might be a difference to if it's three
- 16:38Speaker 6: or four whatever.
- 16:39Speaker 7: Like born Cold, strange. A couple of that come to
- 16:43Speaker 7: mind me other but.
- 16:44Speaker 6: I don't think you would be like with with with
- 16:46Speaker 6: born strange in Taki Taki. Those are the three guys
- 16:48Speaker 6: on on pup. You don't want to put them on
- 16:51Speaker 6: IR because that waste. Like, it's not unlimited, right. I
- 16:56Speaker 6: think there's a certain number, yes, of guys that you
- 17:00Speaker 6: can designate to return.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I thought it was two.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I think it's higher than that, is it? Yeah, I
- 17:04Speaker 3: think it's like.
- 17:07Speaker 8: That.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know.
- 17:08Speaker 7: I just change a lot.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I'm terrible. I am terrible with details like that. I
- 17:12Speaker 3: always have to look them up.
- 17:13Speaker 7: Well, that's why it'll be nice. Wednesday was here.
- 17:15Speaker 9: It is.
- 17:15Speaker 2: This is so as important as the game on Sunday.
- 17:18Speaker 2: It's more the roster moves that are going to happen,
- 17:20Speaker 2: the guys that aren't going to make the team, the
- 17:22Speaker 2: guys that do make the team. Who clears waivers to
- 17:25Speaker 2: get onto the practice squad afterwards? You know that whole thing.
- 17:29Speaker 7: I think Bourne is the interesting.
- 17:30Speaker 3: There's definitely four games for I are yeah, I.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Mean, what happens with Bourney's you know, I don't know.
- 17:35Speaker 7: It's hard to tell.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Because you started on pH so he's.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Eligible too, but like he's been around, but he hasn't
- 17:42Speaker 7: really been working out, and like a guy like Taki Taki,
- 17:45Speaker 7: I've seen a little bit more of him.
- 17:46Speaker 2: He's run around the lower spirits as opposed to Barrie Mapu,
- 17:50Speaker 2: who is I call him moping Marty because he just
- 17:53Speaker 2: he feels he seems so sad week to week.
- 17:56Speaker 7: And it is eight players eight players, all right, that's
- 17:59Speaker 7: I mean, it's pretty flexible, yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 6: But you don't want to waste them, like when you
- 18:04Speaker 6: could put a guy like Born on PUP, like Cold
- 18:06Speaker 6: Strange is probably a lock for PUP. So if you
- 18:11Speaker 6: wouldn't want to put him on I R and waste
- 18:13Speaker 6: one of those eight spots when you can just put
- 18:14Speaker 6: him on PUP right, And it's four games minimum either way.
- 18:18Speaker 2: So yeah, So that's it's going to be a busy,
- 18:20Speaker 2: busy weekend. Uh and a couple of days after the game. Now,
- 18:25Speaker 2: have you guys come out with your roster projections or
- 18:28Speaker 2: anything like that?
- 18:30Speaker 7: I mean we did Evan did one a while ago.
- 18:31Speaker 6: I don't know, so I did one heading into camp.
- 18:34Speaker 6: Do you think we should do another one?
- 18:35Speaker 2: Probably?
- 18:36Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, because Evan's been doing them, which, yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 2: But that's Evans.
- 18:41Speaker 3: No, I know, got issues with that one sort of
- 18:43Speaker 3: my role.
- 18:44Speaker 7: I haven't done.
- 18:44Speaker 6: One, all right, maybe all maybe I'll whip one.
- 18:48Speaker 2: You can whip one together and just say where you differ.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I mean, rather, maybe I'll whip one together. I'll tell
- 18:54Speaker 3: you what I why.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Here's where Evan's wrong.
- 18:58Speaker 6: That's a call on colleague crime. One of the things
- 19:02Speaker 6: that I have found kind of difficult is guys like
- 19:07Speaker 6: Taki Taki that you know I had on the roster,
- 19:14Speaker 6: finding where those replacements will be, and like, I think
- 19:18Speaker 6: they're going to end up keeping seven wide receivers to
- 19:20Speaker 6: start plus Born on PUP. Like I wouldn't have said that,
- 19:26Speaker 6: you know, three weeks ago, four weeks ago, because I
- 19:29Speaker 6: didn't know that these guys were going to be on PUP.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And you know, you have to do the projection.
- 19:34Speaker 6: You lose Matthew Judah, you know where you know, do
- 19:38Speaker 6: you take a guy there? Like I think that you
- 19:42Speaker 6: could end up seeing more cornerbacks, Like I could see
- 19:46Speaker 6: a scenario where it's you know, beyond Gonzo and Jonathan Jones,
- 19:51Speaker 6: you know, and Marcus Jones, those are three guys you
- 19:53Speaker 6: feel really good about. I could see Sean Wade, Marco Wilson,
- 19:58Speaker 6: Alex Austin and and Isaiah Bolden all making it or
- 20:02Speaker 6: even Marcella's Dial because right, so you have to figure out,
- 20:09Speaker 6: you know, the fifty three best in your mind as
- 20:12Speaker 6: well as positionally, because I don't know how many is
- 20:17Speaker 6: too many at both corner and wide receiver. But it
- 20:20Speaker 6: doesn't do you any good if they're the best, that
- 20:22Speaker 6: they're among the best fifty three if they're not going
- 20:24Speaker 6: to play right And.
- 20:26Speaker 7: That's hard, hard positions. I think the cornerback position to me,
- 20:29Speaker 7: every time I look at it, and you just rattle
- 20:31Speaker 7: off the names Paul, nobody separated themselves from that lower
- 20:34Speaker 7: below those top three. It's and Mao said it, Austin
- 20:38Speaker 7: Wilson a kind of rotation in there.
- 20:40Speaker 2: How versatile is a guy? How many different cornerback positions?
- 20:45Speaker 2: Can he play? Bold and play special teams? Has some returnability?
- 20:49Speaker 3: How big?
- 20:50Speaker 7: But you have a few low round draft picks that
- 20:53Speaker 7: they've made that you want to see how they feel
- 20:55Speaker 7: about those guys. Do they see a future? You know,
- 20:57Speaker 7: Alex Austin didn't draft here, but you know was still
- 21:00Speaker 7: what second year guy? So him Bold and Dial? I mean,
- 21:03Speaker 7: these are all, you know, young guys that I don't
- 21:05Speaker 7: really have a feel for yet.
- 21:06Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:07Speaker 6: I feel really good about the safeties, but I don't
- 21:10Speaker 6: feel anywhere near as good about the corners.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Now there's numbers in the corner.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, like yeah, but I don't it's quality.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Mike just said it, Like Marco Wilson, Alex Austin, Sean Wade,
- 21:20Speaker 6: I could make an argument any given day, well he
- 21:22Speaker 6: looks really good today, and then the next day you're like, well,
- 21:25Speaker 6: you get up like three passes today, Like they's just
- 21:27Speaker 6: And Gerard Mayo said that about I don't know, four
- 21:31Speaker 6: or five practices ago.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Maybe yep.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Just looking for a guy to establish some consistency among
- 21:36Speaker 6: that group.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 7: I mean one more thing I would say too, Fred
- 21:38Speaker 7: is just without the Chris Boards of the world, without
- 21:41Speaker 7: a lot of the pure special teamers other than maybe Schooler,
- 21:44Speaker 7: maybe there's some you know, just opportunities there as well
- 21:47Speaker 7: that you know, you can keep see somebody who you
- 21:49Speaker 7: might have some potential to play in the roster.
- 21:51Speaker 6: This is interesting too, Like I think they're going to
- 21:54Speaker 6: have just as many of those guys, but I think
- 21:56Speaker 6: that you won't realize it what Mayo is really trying
- 21:59Speaker 6: to do does not make you think that, like he's
- 22:03Speaker 6: given school or a ton of reps at safety, Christian Ellis,
- 22:08Speaker 6: ray Kwan McMillan, those guys, if they're on the roster,
- 22:10Speaker 6: are going to be special teams players, yea.
- 22:13Speaker 2: If in a jam they have to go in. They
- 22:15Speaker 2: had a little experience at it, right, And it's the
- 22:17Speaker 2: old Belichick.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Right, It's just like what Bill used to do. But
- 22:20Speaker 3: like the only one that didn't really fall into that
- 22:23Speaker 3: was like Slater, you know, like.
- 22:26Speaker 2: He didn't even practice with the team, right.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Those other guys, like like ray Kwan McMillan has been
- 22:32Speaker 6: all over the defense. You know, he had a really good,
- 22:34Speaker 6: really strong game against.
- 22:36Speaker 7: The Eagles Thursday's back on the red jersey. You can't
- 22:39Speaker 7: get a break.
- 22:41Speaker 2: So, but I don't identifi in the draft.
- 22:43Speaker 10: But back of the envelope to Miami.
- 22:49Speaker 3: You liked him going to Miami.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Alabama, ray Kwan McMillan when he was coming out of
- 22:54Speaker 2: the draft, he was one of my back of the
- 22:56Speaker 2: envelope guys.
- 22:57Speaker 3: But then Miami took him. I know, but I wanted
- 23:00Speaker 3: Oh okay, I don't know that. Okay, I'm giving your thumbs.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Okay, I found that he found that gem in Alabama.
- 23:05Speaker 3: He's kind of been disappointed, he has been was he
- 23:10Speaker 3: I thought it was Ohio State.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Now I fess up to even the guys at the
- 23:14Speaker 2: CTE he was at Ohio State. I'm pretty sure that
- 23:18Speaker 2: it wasn't. I don't think so, I don't I could
- 23:21Speaker 2: be wrong. I don't know, I don't know. I just
- 23:23Speaker 2: liked him.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I don't know why Ohio State's sticking out.
- 23:24Speaker 2: To me, But a're you thinking of and Kats?
- 23:27Speaker 3: I think the listeners are right. I'm done, Really, you're done?
- 23:32Speaker 3: All right, speaking, It's been a good run. Thanks for
- 23:34Speaker 3: having me.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Speaking of what Gerard said, uh Dan Roach asked him
- 23:38Speaker 2: a question about when he would know or is there
- 23:41Speaker 2: a deadline or I figured the exact wording of the question.
- 23:44Speaker 2: You know when when he there would be a starting quarterback?
- 23:46Speaker 2: And he said, you know, by Monday night, we'll know,
- 23:48Speaker 2: not that i'll know you I actually but we should know.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So is he just kind of like playing koy or
- 23:55Speaker 2: do you think he honestly believes that there could be
- 23:59Speaker 2: a decision to be made on Monday night?
- 24:02Speaker 7: I don't believe it. I mean, I think this. I mean,
- 24:04Speaker 7: I think that it's Jacoby Brissett. They've been kind of
- 24:07Speaker 7: telling us the whole time. My whole thing with all
- 24:09Speaker 7: of this is that this is why Bill never made
- 24:11Speaker 7: declared to statements about players, because I think, as Gerard
- 24:14Speaker 7: is learning in this first month of camp, everybody here
- 24:16Speaker 7: writes down what you say, you're going to throw a
- 24:18Speaker 7: hole in your face if it's not a competition, if
- 24:20Speaker 7: the reps aren't divided up, right, Like so you understand
- 24:23Speaker 7: why Bill said less and didn't get caught in those traps.
- 24:26Speaker 7: And now there's a lot of different things that Jarada
- 24:28Speaker 7: said over these last few weeks that people are like, well,
- 24:31Speaker 7: this doesn't make sense with this, and you know it's
- 24:32Speaker 7: it's not all jiving with.
- 24:34Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, the bottom line,
- 24:36Speaker 2: it's the goal is the same. People don't know what
- 24:38Speaker 2: the answer is.
- 24:40Speaker 3: And I will say this.
- 24:42Speaker 6: In twenty twenty one, Bill said it'll be a competition
- 24:45Speaker 6: between Cam Newton and Mac Jones, and he said Cam
- 24:49Speaker 6: Newton is the starter. He said at some point heading
- 24:54Speaker 6: in so maybe ota.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh, he's definitive about it.
- 24:58Speaker 6: And then when he decided that was it. Now the
- 25:01Speaker 6: only thing that I would say I'm strongly with Mike
- 25:04Speaker 6: here on this is Bill said that in like May
- 25:07Speaker 6: and then never addressing it right until he decided I'm
- 25:10Speaker 6: going to announce that mac Thoms the quarterback, whereas Gerard
- 25:13Speaker 6: is entertaining the questions virtually every Prescott.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah. But the fact that you know, Gerard hasn't announced
- 25:19Speaker 2: who the starter is yet, you know for week one,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I'm with him every other team with a young quarterback.
- 25:25Speaker 7: That's another thing. That's just like I saw the conversation
- 25:27Speaker 7: going on yesterday around the outless and stuff. It's like,
- 25:30Speaker 7: does anyone really think that Drake May is gonna win
- 25:31Speaker 7: the starting job today or tomorrow? And like the last
- 25:34Speaker 7: two practices, like, I think it's already settled. I think
- 25:37Speaker 7: that they're gonna do what they've been telling us all along.
- 25:39Speaker 7: They're gonna start Chakobe Brissett and we'll see May you
- 25:42Speaker 7: know when it's time. But I don't. I don't really
- 25:44Speaker 7: see there a decision to be made.
- 25:46Speaker 2: What if you know, because after Sunday Night's game, there's
- 25:49Speaker 2: there's two weeks before the season opens, just made maybe
- 25:54Speaker 2: do you think he says I'm gonna wait one more
- 25:56Speaker 2: week to make my decision and see how those that.
- 26:00Speaker 6: He might wait one more week to tell us. But
- 26:02Speaker 6: I don't think he's to make it because I just
- 26:05Speaker 6: really feel.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Like it's time to get ready decision. It's time. Well,
- 26:10Speaker 3: so I want to get to that in a second.
- 26:11Speaker 6: That's a great topic one, but I think that he
- 26:15Speaker 6: needs time to get whoever he picks fully on board
- 26:19Speaker 6: with Cincinnati and you know, like that whole first month. Yeah,
- 26:23Speaker 6: you know those game plans. But to your point that
- 26:25Speaker 6: you just brought up Fred on my show yesterday, Felger
- 26:30Speaker 6: was just browbeating me about how much power Girodmeo actually has.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Does he even have a say in this? I was countering, Yes.
- 26:39Speaker 6: He's the head coach, Like if if he decides, Look,
- 26:43Speaker 6: I get what he said, it's a collaborative and I
- 26:45Speaker 6: agree with that.
- 26:46Speaker 3: I believe that.
- 26:46Speaker 6: I think that Gerrod's being forthright, that Elliott's involved, Alex
- 26:50Speaker 6: van Pelts involved in the offensive coaches. Yeah, but I
- 26:55Speaker 6: feel and if you guys disagree, that's fine. Like, let's
- 26:57Speaker 6: face it, no one's been wrong more than me. If
- 27:01Speaker 6: if he decides, if Alex van Pelt just says, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 6: I just don't think this kid's ready yet, and Gerard
- 27:08Speaker 6: is really adamant that he is. You're telling me that
- 27:13Speaker 6: Girod Mayo's not doesn't have the power to start him
- 27:15Speaker 6: and say not duly noted, Alex. I get it, he's
- 27:18Speaker 6: going to start this week. You're telling me you can't
- 27:20Speaker 6: do that. I don't believe that. I believe that Mayo
- 27:23Speaker 6: would have now. More realistically, if they're not all in
- 27:27Speaker 6: the same page like they'll probably he'll probably wait.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Or they'll hammer it out. They'll have it, just like
- 27:34Speaker 2: in other words, I don't think Gerard's waiting for Alex
- 27:38Speaker 2: van Pelt to tell him what to do. Michael. I
- 27:40Speaker 2: think Gerard has his own opinion, and I think if
- 27:43Speaker 2: they are different, I think there'll be a conversation to
- 27:47Speaker 2: be had.
- 27:47Speaker 6: I think so Felger was just adamant that Gerard has
- 27:50Speaker 6: no juice, like Mayo has no power, he has no
- 27:53Speaker 6: control over his I don't believe it. You know, like
- 27:55Speaker 6: when he said yesterday and we should probably talk about
- 27:58Speaker 6: some of the stuff that he said, yes because it
- 28:00Speaker 6: was a kind of interesting press conference with Girodd. But
- 28:03Speaker 6: when he had that comment about you know, i'd like
- 28:05Speaker 6: to think that I have final say over who's on
- 28:09Speaker 6: the field, and he kind of laughed.
- 28:12Speaker 3: You could take that one of two ways.
- 28:14Speaker 9: Now.
- 28:14Speaker 6: Of course, Mike and Tony took it as like he's
- 28:17Speaker 6: like bitching about his lack of power. I took it
- 28:21Speaker 6: as well. He was being sarcastic, like, yes, Elliott Wolfe
- 28:24Speaker 6: has final say over the roster, but I'm the coach.
- 28:28Speaker 6: I decide who plays gamed it right right, you know.
- 28:31Speaker 6: And he was kind of like you, so you agree
- 28:33Speaker 6: with Mike and Tony.
- 28:34Speaker 7: No, No, I'm just I'm just I'm going back to
- 28:36Speaker 7: saying sarcasm don't fly in press conferences. And that's that's
- 28:40Speaker 7: because that's because people that's him. I mean, I was
- 28:43Speaker 7: just going to say that. I think you've heard it
- 28:45Speaker 7: from Elliot wolf You've heard it from Mayo. Like no,
- 28:47Speaker 7: it's like we're all kind of on the same page. Now.
- 28:49Speaker 7: We don't know when we're going to disagree. So I
- 28:51Speaker 7: think so far they're still in the honeymoon phase, at
- 28:53Speaker 7: least as far as the personnel. But no, I I
- 28:56Speaker 7: agree with what you're what you were saying. I mean,
- 28:58Speaker 7: I don't think he's sitting there already saying I got
- 29:00Speaker 7: no power help, you know. I don't.
- 29:02Speaker 6: I didn't take it that way anyway, And we'll see
- 29:05Speaker 6: if he I feel like, if he is adamant the
- 29:09Speaker 6: time is now and someone else disagrees, I don't think
- 29:14Speaker 6: he's going to get overruled. He's the head coach. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 6: it's a hypothetical.
- 29:19Speaker 2: It is a hypothetic. Yeah, you know, like I always said,
- 29:23Speaker 2: it will be apparent that Drake may should be playing.
- 29:27Speaker 6: So what do you but But you've been at the
- 29:29Speaker 6: last several practices, Freddy, because I'm curious, Mike, can I
- 29:32Speaker 6: see you know, we're out there all the time. We
- 29:34Speaker 6: talked after, you know, during after we already know what
- 29:37Speaker 6: we feel like. You've been out there a lot lately, especially,
- 29:41Speaker 6: Does he look like he's ready to play, like.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Starting week one?
- 29:44Speaker 2: I do, But here's the thing. It doesn't look close. Yes,
- 29:47Speaker 2: here's the thing. I don't know. I don't know what
- 29:50Speaker 2: is happening in the classroom. I don't know what's happening
- 29:52Speaker 2: in film study. Maybe he's not doing as well there
- 29:56Speaker 2: and that's why we're not seeing that, you know, passing
- 29:59Speaker 2: of the two. We don't know that stuff. But from
- 30:03Speaker 2: what I've seen in the field, he's ready.
- 30:06Speaker 6: Oh physically, Yeah, Oh, I don't think there's a question. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 6: but that was yeah and misunderstood. Yeah, physically he blows
- 30:13Speaker 6: everybody away.
- 30:13Speaker 2: But I don't know about the other stuff. And that
- 30:15Speaker 2: can be where Jacoby Brissett still is head and shoulders
- 30:18Speaker 2: above him.
- 30:19Speaker 3: But don't That's what it looks like to me.
- 30:21Speaker 6: It looks like it's not like I still see them
- 30:23Speaker 6: breaking the huddle, going back in the huddle. What happens
- 30:25Speaker 6: every day?
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 30:28Speaker 7: I think I've I've kind of come up with a
- 30:30Speaker 7: new angle two that I've been thinking about. It's just
- 30:32Speaker 7: that this is a whole new operation. What do the
- 30:34Speaker 7: coaches even really know about their team? You know, and
- 30:38Speaker 7: goes back to this is a new offense, this is
- 30:40Speaker 7: a whole new coaching staff, Like, is there an argument
- 30:43Speaker 7: to be made that aside from whether or not Drake
- 30:45Speaker 7: is ready? Like they just don't know, like they don't
- 30:47Speaker 7: know what the problems are going to be. Whereas at
- 30:49Speaker 7: least if we go a few games, Look, Ramondre is
- 30:52Speaker 7: off to a great start. We know, we feel really
- 30:53Speaker 7: good about him. Ryan, I'm just you know, we feel
- 30:55Speaker 7: really good about a b is a huge problem though,
- 30:58Speaker 7: and that's what we're gonna have to Protectdrake, you know,
- 31:00Speaker 7: like you kind of know what you're talking a couple
- 31:02Speaker 7: of weeks.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I mean that kind of clicked with me because you know,
- 31:04Speaker 2: I'm a proponent to have him start right away may
- 31:07Speaker 2: but you just something, just a light bulb went off.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Let's see how it looks without him first, and then
- 31:14Speaker 2: know what we're putting him into. And I'm not just
- 31:17Speaker 2: talking about the offensive line. I'm talking about, like you
- 31:19Speaker 2: just said, the offense as a whole. What are we
- 31:21Speaker 2: inserting him into? Because they don't know, this isn't like
- 31:25Speaker 2: an offense that existed last year. So that is a
- 31:29Speaker 2: good case to at least do a game two, maybe
- 31:32Speaker 2: three four. What kind of offense do we have and
- 31:35Speaker 2: what are we putting this kid into? Just from a.
- 31:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean i'd say, I mean, everybody wants to
- 31:40Speaker 7: go to, like, well the offensive line, you know, but
- 31:42Speaker 7: like what if it's a good thing? What if it's
- 31:43Speaker 7: fully crap? Taekwon Thornton has two games and man, he's
- 31:46Speaker 7: really you know, showcasing.
- 31:48Speaker 2: We know what works.
- 31:48Speaker 7: Now we can get drink in there and we're going
- 31:50Speaker 7: to feature that. That's gonna you know, whereas it's kind
- 31:53Speaker 7: of a mixed back going in.
- 31:54Speaker 2: It just kind of clicked for me a little bit
- 31:56Speaker 2: as to a reason why you don't put him in
- 31:59Speaker 2: right away the week they don't know what the offense
- 32:01Speaker 2: is going to look like, you're.
- 32:02Speaker 7: Going to ruin Drake May by not playing them for
- 32:04Speaker 7: the first three weeks of the twenty twenty fourth season
- 32:06Speaker 7: of his rookie year, like before the.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Other side, you're going to ruin him by playing them.
- 32:09Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think.
- 32:10Speaker 3: You're ruining them either way.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Yeah, But and I say, that was the most compelling
- 32:15Speaker 2: thing that I've heard. Let's go to have him wait
- 32:19Speaker 2: a little bit, job a little bit.
- 32:21Speaker 6: Just so he looks like he's like but the development
- 32:24Speaker 6: is there yet? Yeah, And it's just like I don't know,
- 32:29Speaker 6: I don't know what the plays are. I don't pretend to,
- 32:31Speaker 6: but it it just there's still like that indecision, there's
- 32:34Speaker 6: still the double pumping. Now if we're just talking about this,
- 32:38Speaker 6: guys not to get enamorous. This guy throws over here
- 32:40Speaker 6: and that guy throws over there. Drake May is so
- 32:43Speaker 6: light years ahead of your said It's that's the hard
- 32:46Speaker 6: part watch comparison.
- 32:48Speaker 7: Not really dynamic quarterbacks the last couple of years and
- 32:50Speaker 7: now all of a sudden, mentally he might be swimming,
- 32:54Speaker 7: you know, lost. But when you see him make some
- 32:56Speaker 7: of these throws, you see him throwing the move, you
- 32:58Speaker 7: see how he gets out of the pocket, it's like
- 33:00Speaker 7: those things to us who are so conditioned of like
- 33:02Speaker 7: watching quarterbacks who can't throw them with the ball down
- 33:04Speaker 7: the field, who you know, struggle to throw deep outs
- 33:06Speaker 7: that you know can't get out of the side of
- 33:08Speaker 7: the pocket. And so those things are almost like the
- 33:10Speaker 7: shiny new you know, parts of the car that you're like,
- 33:13Speaker 7: look at this, but you know it's like, well the
- 33:14Speaker 7: engine isn't quite ready to go, but you know, the
- 33:17Speaker 7: chassis and then the paint job and now all that
- 33:18Speaker 7: looks beautiful.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Can't really speaking of the engine. So the other part
- 33:22Speaker 2: of the offense that we're kind of not talking about
- 33:25Speaker 2: right now is the running game. Like, if the running
- 33:27Speaker 2: game is good, that's going to take that's going to
- 33:32Speaker 2: go a long way in making.
- 33:33Speaker 7: Either quarter By the way, look that's terrible, but if
- 33:35Speaker 7: it's terrible, they're i mean not scary.
- 33:37Speaker 2: And maybe that's some other reason to like forget about
- 33:39Speaker 2: the line itself and protecting the quarterback, Can we get
- 33:42Speaker 2: a running game going?
- 33:44Speaker 7: Yeah, And they told us a hundred times that's the
- 33:47Speaker 7: basis of their offense. So I think if you want
- 33:50Speaker 7: to talk about, is Drake megan to get in there
- 33:52Speaker 7: and they get out there and they're able to have
- 33:53Speaker 7: a little success running the ball early in the season.
- 33:55Speaker 7: Is probably a good sign that they, you know, will
- 33:57Speaker 7: have at least a functioning kind of offense.
- 34:00Speaker 2: I mean, if every drive is like thirst to eleven,
- 34:03Speaker 2: I mean, no quarterback's gonna look good.
- 34:05Speaker 6: And Mayo said yesterday there's a couple other things that
- 34:08Speaker 6: that we mentioned. One was about the running game. He's
- 34:11Speaker 6: really excited about the running game. He thinks it's been
- 34:13Speaker 6: really good.
- 34:13Speaker 3: And how do you know. I don't. I don't have
- 34:17Speaker 3: seen it.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I don't know. I have no idea.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Like I think, I think the backs themselves have run hard.
- 34:23Speaker 6: I think Stevenson against Philadelphia really picked up a lot
- 34:26Speaker 6: of yards after contact, a couple of third and shorts
- 34:29Speaker 6: that he got all on his own.
- 34:31Speaker 3: But like, sometimes I don't want that right. It's easy
- 34:34Speaker 3: to say.
- 34:35Speaker 6: It's easy to say, well, it's third and one and
- 34:36Speaker 6: they moved the chains. Yeah, obviously that's the bottom line.
- 34:38Speaker 6: That's what we all want in a game. You don't care,
- 34:40Speaker 6: they don't ask you by how much, as long as
- 34:43Speaker 6: you got the first down. But I'd like to not
- 34:45Speaker 6: have him have to break a tackle in the backfield
- 34:48Speaker 6: on third and one, right, and he had to do
- 34:49Speaker 6: it twice. Yeah, in that game they had the very
- 34:53Speaker 6: first play of the preseason against Carolina, Ramandre bounced it outside,
- 34:58Speaker 6: went up the sideline for like eleven yards. I don't
- 35:00Speaker 6: think they've had really any other good runs blocked runs
- 35:05Speaker 6: unless it was like late in the game, like Jennings
- 35:08Speaker 6: had a twenty yard run, but like the best one,
- 35:12Speaker 6: like Harrison and Stevenson have really had to plow their
- 35:16Speaker 6: way to any yards that they've gotten.
- 35:18Speaker 7: I mean, this might be the bigger piece. Everyone wants
- 35:20Speaker 7: to talk about the pass protection and the left tackle,
- 35:22Speaker 7: but like this might be the bigger piece of making
- 35:25Speaker 7: this offense function is having the run game go, which
- 35:27Speaker 7: will then enable the protection to not be quite have
- 35:30Speaker 7: all the pressure on it. Like you said, Fred, where
- 35:32Speaker 7: it's third and long and you're like, all right, here
- 35:34Speaker 7: we go seven step drop, Like you know, that.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Goes back to what you say. So you're after you know,
- 35:39Speaker 2: three games and they can't run. It's like, what are
- 35:42Speaker 2: we putting them in there?
- 35:43Speaker 6: And that's why I want to sort of change, you know,
- 35:46Speaker 6: change the approach. And I know that's not what Alex
- 35:49Speaker 6: Manapelt wants to do. He keeps saying it, we're a
- 35:51Speaker 6: run team. He's probably saying it right now. He's talking
- 35:53Speaker 6: right now.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Twelve thirty six.
- 35:55Speaker 6: It is probably in front of the podium or the backdrop,
- 35:59Speaker 6: whatever they call that.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I would like step and repeat, Paul, Okay.
- 36:05Speaker 6: I would like to see them sort of, you know,
- 36:08Speaker 6: go away from that and do a.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Lot of easy throws.
- 36:10Speaker 2: On first too, you know, like high percentage.
- 36:12Speaker 6: I think, yeah, I think that Drake May has shown
- 36:15Speaker 6: to be really effective with that hard you know, show
- 36:18Speaker 6: the ball, fake, quick turn, dump to the tight end
- 36:21Speaker 6: for like seven. So now it's second and three instead
- 36:24Speaker 6: of second and nine.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Now your whole plates right, Yeah, Now I could do
- 36:28Speaker 2: whatever I last year, they do a sneak and I'd
- 36:30Speaker 2: be so mad. You know, you got second and one.
- 36:33Speaker 3: That's been mad for about fifteen years.
- 36:34Speaker 2: They could do second and one and they do a
- 36:36Speaker 2: quarterback sneak. What are you doing? You're wasting a play?
- 36:40Speaker 2: All right?
- 36:40Speaker 9: Eight?
- 36:40Speaker 2: Five five Pats five hundred is the A ticket hotline.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Web radio at patrios dot com is the email address.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Let's get to some of the phone calls if I
- 36:49Speaker 2: can get my mouse to line up. Yep, there it is.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Let's see Eldred has been holding on. What's up? Eldred?
- 36:59Speaker 2: Hey all doing doing good?
- 37:02Speaker 8: Doing good? Okay, Hawk, love your honest you love your honesty, buddy,
- 37:07Speaker 8: but I gotta I'm not gonna Uh. I'm still from
- 37:11Speaker 8: North Carolina, but even though I'm not in Missouri, you
- 37:15Speaker 8: still gotta show me. And what you said at the
- 37:17Speaker 8: beginning about old and pumping a little bit and to
- 37:19Speaker 8: show flashes, it's all that too. But if the kid
- 37:23Speaker 8: come out and play good, I'm behind him one hundred percent.
- 37:26Speaker 8: But right now you gotta show me. But uh, I
- 37:28Speaker 8: got a game for everybody, Okay, if you don't mind.
- 37:32Speaker 8: It's called Championship Foundation. I got it off of a
- 37:35Speaker 8: buddhistick with Jeremiah and Daniel, Jeremiah and Bucket Brook. You
- 37:40Speaker 8: got one, two, three, four, five categories blue chips.
- 37:44Speaker 11: That's the top.
- 37:45Speaker 8: Player in the five ten of their position. Green is
- 37:50Speaker 8: player dysfunctional and the reliable, and you might might move
- 37:55Speaker 8: them up the blue purple is a rookie unproven, but
- 37:59Speaker 8: a blue chip fat pink. You young player on proven
- 38:05Speaker 8: yellow is coming off injuries or either get a contract
- 38:10Speaker 8: dispute or your older players. Okay, you choose them from
- 38:14Speaker 8: three categories quarterback, wide receiver, running back, offensive off three
- 38:20Speaker 8: office linemens, two pass rushers and playmakers line back in
- 38:25Speaker 8: the corner.
- 38:25Speaker 11: Back two each.
- 38:27Speaker 8: Who is your blue chip on this team right now?
- 38:31Speaker 2: Who would you put?
- 38:32Speaker 9: Why?
- 38:32Speaker 7: You know the answer to the Celtia that this is
- 38:34Speaker 7: a you know the answer forever?
- 38:38Speaker 2: Is there a green?
- 38:39Speaker 7: I don't know, I need.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I was the only green is.
- 38:43Speaker 8: A stable player, functional player that you can rely on.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Okay. Blue chip on the offensive line is David Andrews
- 38:52Speaker 2: right on this team on this.
- 38:55Speaker 6: Are we talking about just by comparison to this team
- 38:58Speaker 6: or like the league?
- 39:00Speaker 3: Oh, David and I don't know.
- 39:01Speaker 7: I don't think we have any I don't There isn't Barb.
- 39:05Speaker 2: War's out he's not playing.
- 39:07Speaker 3: But I think they have a lot of solid players.
- 39:10Speaker 2: This is a very complicated game, Aldred, and not one
- 39:13Speaker 2: that we can do like that.
- 39:14Speaker 3: But it was like Ralph Wilson, it's a complicated proposal.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I didn't complicated.
- 39:18Speaker 7: The answer is they're not there very you have.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Like it's just a simple question where you take it
- 39:22Speaker 2: off the air, sending the key. That's what all right?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Thanks Eldred. Yeah, that's that's like the games last year.
- 39:33Speaker 3: There were a lot of colors.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of colors.
- 39:35Speaker 7: They got some solid players, mister.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Pink, Your guy Peppers is good guy. Yeah, Peppers and Dog.
- 39:41Speaker 2: I think Peppers might be our best defensive player.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Rock solid players.
- 39:44Speaker 6: Peppers and Doug Right, Yeah, I mean I think good,
- 39:47Speaker 6: good solid players. I think TV and Bentley good solid players.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I just don't think they're blue chips, Like if that's
- 39:54Speaker 6: what you're sort of getting at.
- 39:56Speaker 2: They're not superstars in the league. Let's go to uh,
- 40:01Speaker 2: Bobby in Connecticut. What's up, Bobby, Bobby in Connecticut?
- 40:08Speaker 3: Bobby Sandy.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I think he's trying to figure out Aldred's game. I
- 40:13Speaker 2: think that's what's going on. He will Hey, guys, how's
- 40:20Speaker 2: it going today?
- 40:23Speaker 11: Two things I want to touch on today. One of
- 40:26Speaker 11: them is I feel like people are really overreacting to
- 40:28Speaker 11: the jirid male press conferences a lot. I feel like
- 40:31Speaker 11: the big picture has kind of been aligned the whole,
- 40:34Speaker 11: like preseason all along, and I feel like people are
- 40:37Speaker 11: just kind of really trying to make a story out
- 40:40Speaker 11: of the day instead of the bigger picture with them,
- 40:44Speaker 11: I feel like everybody keeps you picking him up. He's
- 40:48Speaker 11: saying a whole bunch of different things but really saying
- 40:52Speaker 11: nothing at all, kind of like Bill Belichick would do.
- 40:54Speaker 11: And also another thing that I wanted to touch on
- 40:58Speaker 11: was I feel like Drake may should be definitely be
- 41:01Speaker 11: the starter coming up, considering Kobe Brissette has been steady
- 41:06Speaker 11: just like he has been for eight years. But you
- 41:08Speaker 11: don't really hear a lot of stuff for progression from men,
- 41:11Speaker 11: whereas you hear a lot of improvement from Drake may
- 41:14Speaker 11: a VP king all last week he was saying well
- 41:16Speaker 11: for a couple of weeks ago so the season ticket holders,
- 41:18Speaker 11: and was saying that his progressions were ahead of schedule.
- 41:22Speaker 11: And I'd just like to see the kid get a
- 41:23Speaker 11: shot over somebody who's kind of been a perennial backup.
- 41:27Speaker 7: But for me on you guys think, yeah, thanks. Well,
- 41:29Speaker 7: I think that's the hard part is that Jacobe Brissett's
- 41:32Speaker 7: has not played well.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Well, He's reached his ceiling.
- 41:34Speaker 12: But.
- 41:36Speaker 7: You know, throwing that pick in that game like, it
- 41:39Speaker 7: hasn't been it hasn't been good in practice, it hasn't
- 41:41Speaker 7: been consistent. And that has been and I don't want
- 41:43Speaker 7: to say that's as much of a factor of what
- 41:45Speaker 7: Drake's rise has been, but he just he's he's been
- 41:48Speaker 7: sloppy with the ball and it's and if he's going
- 41:50Speaker 7: to be throwing interceptions, it's like, I don't know if
- 41:52Speaker 7: we can do this again.
- 41:53Speaker 6: I would totally agree with that assessment of the last week.
- 41:56Speaker 6: But it's impossible for a nine year guy to improve
- 42:00Speaker 6: camp at the rate of a.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Rookie right because there's not as much room for improvement.
- 42:05Speaker 3: He is what he is right now, exactly.
- 42:07Speaker 6: Mike just made a comment that like, you've been a
- 42:09Speaker 6: little you know, disappointed that it hasn't looked any better,
- 42:14Speaker 6: just solid. So it all comes down to what you
- 42:16Speaker 6: actually thought like. And I've said this many times in
- 42:19Speaker 6: the offseason. There's a blanket assumption with the twenty twenty
- 42:23Speaker 6: four Patriots that the offense can't possibly be worse and
- 42:26Speaker 6: the quarterback play can't possibly be worse. And I keep saying,
- 42:30Speaker 6: why do we say those things? I have no idea.
- 42:33Speaker 6: I'm not telling you they will be worse. Oh, they
- 42:35Speaker 6: are worse. But Jacoby Brissett has never proven to be
- 42:38Speaker 6: any more than a backup, right, you know, I think
- 42:42Speaker 6: he's a great backup because I think he has the
- 42:45Speaker 6: perfect mentality and attitude to be an asset to any
- 42:49Speaker 6: team that he's on. I think he's a wonderful teammate
- 42:52Speaker 6: and a respected veteran, and now he has experience. So
- 42:55Speaker 6: if you need to plug him in, I think he's
- 42:58Speaker 6: he's really well suited for that. But when he's had
- 43:01Speaker 6: to play consecutive weeks in games, he's not really had
- 43:05Speaker 6: a lot of success.
- 43:06Speaker 2: In the league.
- 43:07Speaker 6: So I don't know why we're automatically assuming it's going
- 43:10Speaker 6: to be better than it was last year.
- 43:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I back up that point Paul by
- 43:13Speaker 7: saying the last couple of weeks that first team offense
- 43:15Speaker 7: with him, it ain't look much different than what we
- 43:17Speaker 7: watched in training camp.
- 43:18Speaker 6: So the offense in general, no matter who's playing quarterback,
- 43:21Speaker 6: has looked eerily similar. I mean, different plays, different schemes,
- 43:26Speaker 6: but production wise, eerily similar to the last two years.
- 43:30Speaker 2: But all you have to do this year to be
- 43:31Speaker 2: better is score two touchdowns a game.
- 43:34Speaker 6: That's what you why you averaged thirteen points a game
- 43:36Speaker 6: last year, fourteen.
- 43:37Speaker 3: That's like, yeah, like what are you doing?
- 43:41Speaker 6: Like, I know everybody says that, but like, first of all,
- 43:44Speaker 6: I want I need to see it. I'll tell you
- 43:46Speaker 6: what the hope and that this is how I turned
- 43:48Speaker 6: it yesterday when they asked me, like, what are some
- 43:50Speaker 6: of the things, Like the defense.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Has been really good on paper?
- 43:54Speaker 6: Right, last year the numbers said that the defense was
- 43:57Speaker 6: like top ten, but they didn't really force a lot
- 43:59Speaker 6: of turns. Maybe you force a lot of turnovers and
- 44:01Speaker 6: you set up some points like that that could happen. Yeah,
- 44:06Speaker 6: you know, because takeaways kind of ebb and flow. Sometimes
- 44:09Speaker 6: you're really good defensively, but you're not coming up with
- 44:11Speaker 6: a lot of takeaways.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Maybe this year they do.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's a hard way to live.
- 44:15Speaker 6: That's how they like. The two games that they've played
- 44:18Speaker 6: in the preseason, their scoring drives have been like thirty yards,
- 44:22Speaker 6: Like they haven't had these like seventy five yard drops. Right,
- 44:25Speaker 6: they're taking over and plus terror you know, long your
- 44:28Speaker 6: guy David Wallace with a good punt return I think
- 44:31Speaker 6: set up one of the scores in one of the games.
- 44:36Speaker 6: The scoring drives have all been very short. They've had
- 44:39Speaker 6: great field position and still haven't been able to put
- 44:41Speaker 6: any points.
- 44:41Speaker 3: On the board.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Brandon writes in do you feel it's possible Drake May
- 44:47Speaker 2: is getting reps with the ones behind closed doors? After
- 44:50Speaker 2: hearing David andrew yesterday saying he did this during his
- 44:53Speaker 2: first year, it had me curious.
- 44:59Speaker 6: No, not yet that that will be a possibility starting
- 45:03Speaker 6: next week. Right now, we're seeing every practice. They can't
- 45:08Speaker 6: be out there without us being there.
- 45:10Speaker 2: That would be a violation, right, and they can't have
- 45:12Speaker 2: another practice.
- 45:13Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. They can't. The the field time
- 45:16Speaker 6: that they have is they're allotted field time. But next
- 45:19Speaker 6: week we'll be out there for probably ten or fifteen minutes,
- 45:23Speaker 6: and that's absolutely in play. I think the emailers got something,
- 45:28Speaker 6: probably Larry plausible plays.
- 45:30Speaker 7: All that kind of stuff will start.
- 45:31Speaker 6: So just like Drake May with David Andrews in the
- 45:34Speaker 6: first offense, like we're not seeing it, and then all
- 45:37Speaker 6: of a sudden you go into the next week, you know,
- 45:40Speaker 6: with Cincinnati week, and that they know what they've seen.
- 45:43Speaker 7: At least, I did think yesterday's practice was a little interesting,
- 45:46Speaker 7: just for me limited training camps I've covered but it
- 45:49Speaker 7: felt like that's probably what kind of a regular season
- 45:51Speaker 7: practice is like, with going off cards and you know,
- 45:54Speaker 7: you're not really having competitions internally and trying to put
- 45:58Speaker 7: reps together where you know you're trying to figure your
- 46:00Speaker 7: team out. It's more just we're just trying to get
- 46:02Speaker 7: our guys ready to play against what they're going to
- 46:04Speaker 7: play against.
- 46:04Speaker 6: You know, people have asked a lot like have you
- 46:07Speaker 6: seen differences? You know, and that's one difference. Bill did
- 46:10Speaker 6: more the card stuff in preseason even, you know, because
- 46:14Speaker 6: he used to always say you have to put your
- 46:15Speaker 6: guys out there with a chance to succeed. So he
- 46:20Speaker 6: did what what Gira did yesterday, Bill would do for
- 46:23Speaker 6: a practice heading into the first and second preseason game
- 46:26Speaker 6: as well. Now, I haven't seen much, if any card
- 46:29Speaker 6: work until yesterday, did you No. I thought that was
- 46:32Speaker 6: the first that we've really seen. They're running Washington Place right.
- 46:36Speaker 7: You know, maybe a little before the Eagles practice, but
- 46:39Speaker 7: I don't think.
- 46:39Speaker 2: That could be Jane Rhode Island. Max started right away
- 46:42Speaker 2: and he had a fine season. He just sucked. Dre
- 46:45Speaker 2: will be fine starting right away. Experience is the best teacher.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I.
- 46:51Speaker 6: Don't think it's apples to apples, though, That's the only
- 46:53Speaker 6: thing is mac Jones was you know, five years at
- 46:56Speaker 6: at Alabama and came in largely considered a finished product.
- 47:02Speaker 6: Everybody said his ceiling isn't much higher than what it
- 47:04Speaker 6: is now, but he's pro ready. Whereas most people think
- 47:08Speaker 6: that May is only at twenty one years old, didn't
- 47:12Speaker 6: have the same kind of experience you know, in college.
- 47:16Speaker 6: He was only there for three years and has more
- 47:19Speaker 6: growing to do, you know, so I don't really think
- 47:22Speaker 6: it's the same now. He's May blows away Mac Jones
- 47:25Speaker 6: in terms of talent, not even a comparison.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Alisha writes in going into the season, I braced myself
- 47:30Speaker 2: that this is a rebuilding year, knowing that everything that
- 47:35Speaker 2: goes with that. My mindset back in the beginning of
- 47:38Speaker 2: the year was concerned for the offense, but confidence in
- 47:41Speaker 2: our defense. I knew that the season would have ups
- 47:44Speaker 2: and downs with a healthy team. However, I feel like
- 47:48Speaker 2: the team is going through quite a few injuries before
- 47:50Speaker 2: the season even kicks off. Offensive line, tight ends, and
- 47:54Speaker 2: our defense to name the main ones. I do know
- 47:57Speaker 2: that injuries occur to each team every year for some reason,
- 48:01Speaker 2: these injuries seem like they may play more significant role
- 48:04Speaker 2: in the overall outcome of the season. I'm not sure
- 48:07Speaker 2: if my take is negative or ignorant, so please calm
- 48:10Speaker 2: my nerves.
- 48:11Speaker 3: No, I don't think it's I don't think it's either.
- 48:14Speaker 2: I would say that I don't think the injuries are
- 48:16Speaker 2: any more or any more severe than in the past.
- 48:18Speaker 2: But what you worry about more is because we don't
- 48:21Speaker 2: have the depth that these injuries, like, even if they're
- 48:24Speaker 2: the same as past years or during the Brady years,
- 48:27Speaker 2: they affect you more.
- 48:28Speaker 6: They've also hit a couple of important play like Barmore
- 48:31Speaker 6: and and Henry that.
- 48:32Speaker 7: You're without your top four pass rushers right now. Matthew,
- 48:36Speaker 7: Judon gone, Barmore hurt, Uce hurt, Zimmenez hurt. I mean,
- 48:41Speaker 7: that's my way.
- 48:42Speaker 2: When you couple Barmore and Jude On leaving, that's a
- 48:46Speaker 2: big hit.
- 48:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm just talking about injuries. But Barmore and Henry
- 48:51Speaker 6: are significant injuries.
- 48:52Speaker 9: Now.
- 48:52Speaker 6: I don't know how long Henry's going to be out,
- 48:55Speaker 6: so maybe that's not as big a concern as I
- 48:57Speaker 6: might be making out to be right now. But if
- 49:00Speaker 6: you have Henry in Hooper like that's fine. But if
- 49:04Speaker 6: you if you're missing one of those guys, and you're
- 49:06Speaker 6: missing potentially a third guy in Wilcox who was back
- 49:09Speaker 6: out on the field yesterday but not in full pads,
- 49:13Speaker 6: that's an issue. Like the pass rushing thing you traded
- 49:17Speaker 6: Jude on, Like that's gonna that's it for your pass rush. Yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 6: Like I'm you're not going to adequately replace that.
- 49:24Speaker 2: H Jake kind of saying the same thing that Deuce
- 49:28Speaker 2: was saying. Just want to say I look forward to
- 49:29Speaker 2: the Patriots show. Feels like the voice of Reason a
- 49:32Speaker 2: lot of the time. Love the analysis in deep Dives.
- 49:35Speaker 2: I'd love to see May come in for the home
- 49:38Speaker 2: Dolphins game, not because I don't think he could handle
- 49:41Speaker 2: coming in earlier, but I really want to see how
- 49:43Speaker 2: the rest of the team looks under Berset as sort
- 49:46Speaker 2: of a control in the May experiment. That's kind of
- 49:49Speaker 2: what you're saying.
- 49:49Speaker 7: I mean, that's and honestly, that's an angle that I
- 49:51Speaker 7: didn't really think of of just seeing what it's getting
- 49:54Speaker 7: something to compare it to. You know, like if Bank
- 49:56Speaker 7: comes right in the offense, is what the offense is?
- 49:58Speaker 7: You have no idea you know what it might look
- 50:01Speaker 7: like if Jacoby Brissette.
- 50:02Speaker 11: Is it?
- 50:03Speaker 2: Is it May? Or is it the offense? Right? And
- 50:09Speaker 2: so I'm starting to convince myself to wait a.
- 50:11Speaker 7: Few games, did it finally?
- 50:14Speaker 2: Did it? I mean, everybody's writing in about May, who
- 50:21Speaker 2: is this? Does it?
- 50:22Speaker 8: Say?
- 50:23Speaker 9: J H?
- 50:23Speaker 2: Maybe does it make sense for Drake May to take
- 50:26Speaker 2: more playing time against the first string defenses so that
- 50:29Speaker 2: while he's learning, they're getting better at defending against a
- 50:32Speaker 2: more dynamic quarterback. It doesn't sound like Brissette is exactly
- 50:36Speaker 2: lighting it up and making it difficult for them. With
- 50:39Speaker 2: some of the qbs we have to play against. I
- 50:41Speaker 2: think it could help. Also, what's it going to take
- 50:44Speaker 2: to go into Miami and win this year? We've got
- 50:47Speaker 2: to beat the Finns at home? Tua is too comfy
- 50:51Speaker 2: against us.
- 50:52Speaker 7: That is true. I mean, I mean my first thing
- 50:55Speaker 7: I would say is that there's a lot of rotation
- 50:57Speaker 7: on defense, and it's you know, it's kind of rare
- 50:59Speaker 7: when you have that's the starting eleven. I mean, there's
- 51:02Speaker 7: always going to be an Alex Austin out there or
- 51:04Speaker 7: you know, a Josh Bledsoe or but I think May
- 51:07Speaker 7: has had you know, some quality team reps against you know,
- 51:10Speaker 7: majority starter types on defense. I don't think it's quite
- 51:13Speaker 7: as cut and dry where he's always going to let them.
- 51:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I like the email, like, I think there's something
- 51:18Speaker 6: to be said for it, like if you I mean,
- 51:21Speaker 6: I guess the the pluses and minuses. The pluses are
- 51:24Speaker 6: what he's saying, like it gives them a more dynamic
- 51:27Speaker 6: quarterback to go against and maybe you know, offers a
- 51:30Speaker 6: different look. The minuses are if he's mentally not ready
- 51:32Speaker 6: to take advantage of his athleticism against them, and you know,
- 51:37Speaker 6: is it is it worth it? But the one thing
- 51:39Speaker 6: that you get back to is practice. For a guy
- 51:43Speaker 6: like Drake May, I don't think it's necessarily conducive to
- 51:47Speaker 6: his skill set because they don't want him running around
- 51:50Speaker 6: and you can't hit him. It was like one of
- 51:52Speaker 6: the things the Tuesday Joint practice. I think we had
- 51:55Speaker 6: fourteen sacks. I think that was the knobs track pull,
- 51:59Speaker 6: but I think that was the number that most people
- 52:01Speaker 6: were reporting.
- 52:04Speaker 3: How many of those would have actually been sacks.
- 52:06Speaker 6: In a game, same play, same pressure, same play, Like
- 52:10Speaker 6: both guys would have had an opportunity.
- 52:12Speaker 3: To escape, to escape the pocket that you're not.
- 52:15Speaker 6: Afforded in a practice setting, right, And I don't And
- 52:18Speaker 6: the answer might have been fourteen.
- 52:20Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm just throwing it out there.
- 52:22Speaker 2: It could have been fourteen with three strip sacks for only.
- 52:25Speaker 6: Or it could have been you know, eighteen, right like
- 52:28Speaker 6: maybe they would have you know, avoided on a couple
- 52:31Speaker 6: of other times and eventually gotten sacked.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I'd say it was just looked bad that day.
- 52:36Speaker 3: It was bad. Yeah, just one more point.
- 52:38Speaker 7: I don't even necessarily think they'll may going against the
- 52:41Speaker 7: personnel is the thing. It's going against the scheme and
- 52:43Speaker 7: going against how they post snap rotate safeties. I mean,
- 52:47Speaker 7: there's a lot going on. I think that's a lot
- 52:49Speaker 7: of value. It's you know, as much as you'd love
- 52:51Speaker 7: to see him out there going against you know, having
- 52:53Speaker 7: a complete passes against Christian Zalizer, Jonathan Jones, you know,
- 52:56Speaker 7: getting just a feel for the game, and you know,
- 52:59Speaker 7: especially with this defense, which JaMarcus Covington I think is
- 53:02Speaker 7: is making it clear that they are going we're gonna
- 53:04Speaker 7: send and seven, we're gonna send three. I mean, it's
- 53:06Speaker 7: gonna be all over the map like that. And that's
- 53:08Speaker 7: the stuff that he needs to get reps to understand
- 53:11Speaker 7: how different defense is gonna.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Play back on the age ticket hut line. We'll go
- 53:15Speaker 2: to Melvin and tennessee. What's up Melvin? I was going
- 53:18Speaker 2: on this week?
- 53:20Speaker 13: Right, Yeah, I just talked about the defensive line a
- 53:22Speaker 13: little bit. So it's funny that all of them like
- 53:25Speaker 13: never really came together to kind of I wouldn't say
- 53:28Speaker 13: peak all at once, but they've all had like spurts
- 53:31Speaker 13: from why of course Judi and Baltimore they never really
- 53:35Speaker 13: I feel like they never really came together at their peak,
- 53:38Speaker 13: but they have the sense of Batman of that little grup.
- 53:40Speaker 13: O don't with Judie and balmore now. But like of
- 53:44Speaker 13: course we're left with the Robins. And when I saw
- 53:48Speaker 13: Kean White in this last Situes game, I think he's
- 53:51Speaker 13: all right. He just would have been so much it
- 53:54Speaker 13: could be better with Baltimore. I like him rritching more
- 53:56Speaker 13: from the inside opposite, but outside I don't. I just
- 53:59Speaker 13: feel have like a lot of srepardation with him what
- 54:02Speaker 13: he is, but he's not to step up big time
- 54:03Speaker 13: because that bull rush he does. He just doesn't seem
- 54:06Speaker 13: like he's worked too much of developed too much of
- 54:09Speaker 13: outside moves. I just thought that's gonna be a hard
- 54:11Speaker 13: way see him live and we got to depend on that,
- 54:15Speaker 13: which I know that's probably not his idea. Thing is
- 54:18Speaker 13: a past rush from what I remember from the draft.
- 54:20Speaker 13: But I just hope that they can kind of pieces
- 54:23Speaker 13: together and this is your two for him, So maybe
- 54:25Speaker 13: he has that that growth and he can kind of
- 54:28Speaker 13: go to the next level. But just so far from
- 54:31Speaker 13: watching him, I still have just like my thoughts about
- 54:34Speaker 13: him about not necessarily being that next level guy. But
- 54:38Speaker 13: good player is not.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I want come better, I guess.
- 54:41Speaker 13: But that's the only thing I got with him.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Thanks, thanks Melvin. Yeah, I mean we don't a lot
- 54:46Speaker 2: about he came into the league as a tweiner, like
- 54:49Speaker 2: they didn't really know, you know, uh, and he's got strength,
- 54:53Speaker 2: but he doesn't really have a lot of speed. He's onside.
- 54:58Speaker 2: He's got the strength and but not the girth for
- 55:02Speaker 2: the inside, so he's like in between.
- 55:04Speaker 7: I mean, everything that he just said on that call,
- 55:07Speaker 7: ke White told you himself.
- 55:08Speaker 3: He said last week.
- 55:11Speaker 7: And he's got some moves on the inside like he's
- 55:13Speaker 7: you know, but you know, as funny as after the game,
- 55:16Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I'm kind of on a key
- 55:17Speaker 7: on White Island, but you know, I said to Paul,
- 55:20Speaker 7: I was like, I mean his sacks the same thing,
- 55:22Speaker 7: Like he just tries to run straight into the guy
- 55:25Speaker 7: and that time the guy didn't get deep enough and
- 55:27Speaker 7: he got around him. You know, he needs to develop
- 55:29Speaker 7: if he's ever going to be that edge guy. I
- 55:30Speaker 7: think he's like, I don't need to repeat everything he
- 55:33Speaker 7: just said, but inside pass Rusher that like, look, you
- 55:36Speaker 7: got to think about him more as replacing some bar
- 55:38Speaker 7: more snaps than replacing Jude on snaps. I think even
- 55:41Speaker 7: though they'll probably have him on the edge early downs
- 55:43Speaker 7: as a run stopper, him and Anthony Jennings there, you
- 55:45Speaker 7: know'll be pretty stout. But again, how many sacks are
- 55:48Speaker 7: those two guys going to have right now? Because right
- 55:51Speaker 7: now you look at the depth chart, they're the guys.
- 55:53Speaker 7: I mean him and as I know, he's he's heard
- 55:55Speaker 7: he was back yesterday, he was limited. Ouce has had
- 55:58Speaker 7: the weirdest camp. I think I've ever varience, Like I
- 56:00Speaker 7: just I don't get what's going on with josh Ucha
- 56:02Speaker 7: this whole year.
- 56:03Speaker 6: Can we do like a fifteen second aside on uch? Okay,
- 56:06Speaker 6: so Mike's point about it, he's had the Strangers camp.
- 56:10Speaker 6: When camp opened he was out there every day, but
- 56:13Speaker 6: really not doing a whole lot, clearly dealing with something physically,
- 56:16Speaker 6: spent some time in the lower rehab field, didn't really
- 56:19Speaker 6: take part very many eleven on eleven reps right. Then
- 56:23Speaker 6: all of a sudden, the Philadelphia preseason game came and
- 56:25Speaker 6: he got like thirty reps, right, thirty snaps right. Since then,
- 56:29Speaker 6: he's been back to the lower rehab field and not
- 56:31Speaker 6: really taken part for William.
- 56:33Speaker 2: I know Jerrod said it had nothing to do with
- 56:35Speaker 2: the fight.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Well, I don't think it did.
- 56:37Speaker 2: But wasn't he involved in the fight.
- 56:39Speaker 6: He was involved in some pushing and shoving after the
- 56:42Speaker 6: play where the Eagles took exception to the hit on
- 56:47Speaker 6: the McMillan put on the blocker on the kickoff.
- 56:49Speaker 2: But what other explanation is there?
- 56:52Speaker 7: I don't know, And I mean we were even speculating
- 56:54Speaker 7: early on, like I don't care if he took one
- 56:57Speaker 7: snap in the first quarter and then he came out
- 56:59Speaker 7: of the game.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Is he playing in a preseason game if he's not
- 57:01Speaker 3: one hundred percent.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 57:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I think.
- 57:05Speaker 6: With one hundred percent part, like, I don't think it's
- 57:08Speaker 6: right to punish a guy if he's not one hundred percent.
- 57:10Speaker 2: I mean, what if what if it's his role is
- 57:12Speaker 2: so narrow well that we don't need you in practice.
- 57:15Speaker 7: That's just what I was gonna say. And I feel
- 57:17Speaker 7: kind of like this connects to Dietrich Wise too, that
- 57:19Speaker 7: they've kind of like, you're good at this, and you're
- 57:21Speaker 7: gonna do this.
- 57:22Speaker 2: We're not.
- 57:22Speaker 7: We're done. Like with Dietrich Wise, you're a good You're
- 57:25Speaker 7: gonna be a pass rusher now. Yeah, I think that's
- 57:27Speaker 7: kind of a sign of a new coaching staff on
- 57:29Speaker 7: the defensive side of the ball adjusting a little bit
- 57:32Speaker 7: to the roles because I just I don't get it.
- 57:34Speaker 7: I mean, like I was saying, like we were speculating,
- 57:36Speaker 7: is he unhappy with the contract he signed? Like he
- 57:38Speaker 7: just like something has seemed kind of off this whole.
- 57:41Speaker 6: He has mentioned the contract, not to us, but just
- 57:45Speaker 6: something that before camp started some kind of podcast or
- 57:49Speaker 6: something like that, and then he saw everybody sign for
- 57:53Speaker 6: much more, and I think he's probably I think he
- 57:56Speaker 6: I think he left his agency, so I think that's
- 58:00Speaker 6: part of it.
- 58:00Speaker 7: It's just it's gonna be hard for him this year
- 58:02Speaker 7: because they're gonna have to get.
- 58:03Speaker 2: The third and the best thing he could do is
- 58:04Speaker 2: have a good year.
- 58:05Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, they're gonna have to get to third
- 58:07Speaker 7: and long somehow to get him on the field, get
- 58:09Speaker 7: him involved, right, So you're gonna have to be really stout,
- 58:12Speaker 7: really good upfront and early downs and you know you're
- 58:14Speaker 7: gonna need guys like ke On White and or I
- 58:16Speaker 7: should say, you're gonna need guys like Jeremiah Farms and
- 58:20Speaker 7: daniel Lequalae to produce early down pass rush pressure because
- 58:24Speaker 7: you can't just have your front seven build the wall
- 58:27Speaker 7: and nobody's running around making.
- 58:28Speaker 2: That should mention. They released Mike Prissell.
- 58:31Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I wasn't all that surprised. He's just
- 58:33Speaker 7: a body. It seemed like, you know, as a as
- 58:34Speaker 7: a nose tackle they like.
- 58:37Speaker 3: I think Jeremiah Farms has had.
- 58:38Speaker 2: A good team.
- 58:39Speaker 7: You could have he could. He's kind of well rounded.
- 58:41Speaker 7: I mean, I'm curious to see how it translates. There
- 58:43Speaker 7: are certain guys that you get kind of excited about
- 58:45Speaker 7: in camp. You get to the regular season.
- 58:46Speaker 3: They didn't play good point.
- 58:48Speaker 7: I don't know about him road on the line, Nobody
- 58:52Speaker 7: talking about him. Hes gonna play a lot he's gonna
- 58:53Speaker 7: play next to Godschaw. They're gonna be probably the top
- 58:55Speaker 7: two inside.
- 58:57Speaker 2: But you know, of course we were expecting Barmore. So
- 59:04Speaker 2: everything else is talking.
- 59:05Speaker 6: About like in terms of they have guys like we
- 59:10Speaker 6: talk about whys as being sort of one dimensional or
- 59:13Speaker 6: quality kind of is too. He's a sub sub rusher
- 59:16Speaker 6: in the interior. Now, I think you're asking him to
- 59:19Speaker 6: increase his role, and I wonder if he's you know,
- 59:21Speaker 6: he's one of those guys that's not as effective.
- 59:23Speaker 3: The more he plays.
- 59:24Speaker 7: That's totally I mean, unproven commodity. It's like, this is
- 59:27Speaker 7: what you're left with. This is the guy.
- 59:28Speaker 2: I mean, you never know how the season unfolds, but
- 59:32Speaker 2: what if we're looking at a team that can get
- 59:34Speaker 2: pressure but can't stop the run.
- 59:35Speaker 6: You know, so our good buddy Greg Bdard actually run
- 59:40Speaker 6: defense is one of his concerns. Now, I would argue
- 59:43Speaker 6: in this day and age, if that's the if that's
- 59:46Speaker 6: one of the bigger concerns.
- 59:47Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, we're okay.
- 59:49Speaker 6: And I'm not telling you it's great to not be
- 59:50Speaker 6: able to stop the run, but you'll be okay if
- 59:53Speaker 6: you can do the other stuff.
- 59:54Speaker 7: Well, if they can't stop the run. I think their
- 59:56Speaker 7: whole philosophy is broken because you look at these guys.
- 59:59Speaker 7: They're all run stoppers, like Godshaw, Bentley, Tavia, Jennings, key
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: On White. They're all big dudes who can like win
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: physical battles one on one. But I I that would
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: be a terrible sign for this defense that they're gonna
- 1:00:14Speaker 7: you know, if they couldn't stop the run, that's like
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: one thing. I'm like just willing to say that's gonna
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: be okay, I think.
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: But run defense has been really good, and they have
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: a couple of fourth down stops and the Yeah, I mean,
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: I know it's preseason, you know.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I don't know what what do we know and we
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: don't know anything. Let's see Spian Fresno. Don't know if
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: he's ready yet. But as Jerry would say, love the Drake.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: A couple questions. One, if they don't let if they
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: don't start Drake May in week one, would you guess
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: the decision is guided more by the pre existing plan
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: to go with Brissette or more by the staff's genuine
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: sense that May hasn't shown adequate command of the playbook yet.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Both both both okay, completing each other and two all
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: else being equal, would you rather go into the season
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: with present day Mac Jones and the twenty fourteen Patriots
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: defense or present day Drake May with this year's defense.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Maybe the answer changes, macats pair.
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: Give me May. I don't need to watch another Mac Jones.
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: You can put Mac Jones on two thousand and seventeen.
- 1:01:17Speaker 7: Oh yeah, all right, I'm good.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean in today's NFL, you got to have
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: the offense. Yeah, you know, you.
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: Got to have the quarterback. And that was the bottom
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: line when I went on one of Paul's shows this morning,
- 1:01:31Speaker 7: is that I don't know if Drake May is the guy,
- 1:01:34Speaker 7: but he's got the makings of being the guy. And
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: that's the hardest piece to find. And for right now,
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: I get why everybody's focused on him. He's he's he's
- 1:01:41Speaker 7: the whole story.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Right now, I'm just looking to see if there's anything
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: on the Twitter.
- 1:01:48Speaker 7: About assistance things that were said. I think this is
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: a funny show where, you know, I'm so used to
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: off season shows where we have to like nothing happens
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: and we have like six shows and nothings to have,
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: and then this is a show where I feel like
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: I've watched like ten practices and haven't done a PU
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: and you have so much this happened, it's hard to
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: like get everything out that you've been observing.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Tim our friend from Duncan right saying, looking forward to
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: another season, hoping that Drake may well not stepping on
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: his email. I'm hoping that Drake may can somehow get
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: the starting nod in Sincy. I'm flying in for the
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: game and as always want to win, and I believe
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: that Drake gives us the best opportunity to win on
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: a weekly basis. Am I crazy? I understand the developmental
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: process and initially thought sitting him was probably the best plan.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: But the more I see, the more I believe Drake
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: is the best option for both the future and now.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: And he says, by the way, I had a chance
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: to meet Paul, Mike and Evan at the last open practice.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: They are class guys that made me feel welcome and appreciate. Well,
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: now that Andy's going.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: I don't have time for this.
- 1:02:54Speaker 7: Yeah, it's it's a good question.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Yeah, let's get back to the phones. Dominiques in New York.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: What's up, Dominique?
- 1:03:03Speaker 14: Hey y'all, how you doing good?
- 1:03:06Speaker 15: Good?
- 1:03:06Speaker 14: I got like a really kind of news question. So
- 1:03:09Speaker 14: one of the things I've noticed, especially in the NFL,
- 1:03:12Speaker 14: how specific the injury reports are total like a sail injuries,
- 1:03:16Speaker 14: et cetera, et cetera. But I've seen in the NHL
- 1:03:18Speaker 14: they just kind of name them lower body injury or
- 1:03:20Speaker 14: upper body injury. I don't know if you know who
- 1:03:22Speaker 14: the reason as to why that is. I don't know
- 1:03:24Speaker 14: that something NFL players advocate for, like let's disclosure on
- 1:03:27Speaker 14: injury and whatnot. But I've always been curious about it.
- 1:03:30Speaker 14: I appreciate it, but I never knew why. You know,
- 1:03:34Speaker 14: like in some sports they're just a little bit more
- 1:03:36Speaker 14: specific to injuries versus I'll take it up one.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: All right, dominique. I mean, even within the NFL, it's
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: a team by team thing. Some teams are just more
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: specific with the injury than other teams. I think there's
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: a minimum requirement from the league where you have to
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: at least address the area of the body where the
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: injury is. But other teams get more specific and they'll
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: be like, you know, right calf instead.
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: Of Brady was a Brady like right shoulder forever. Yeah,
- 1:04:02Speaker 7: that was one that was always on there.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: At least it was the shoulder and not the whole arm,
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: you know. But but I think in the NFL it's
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: up to the team to at least meet the minimum requirement,
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: but then they can go into more specific if they want.
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: Can I read something to you guys, and I want
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: you to tell me what you think. This is from
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: Ben Vohen, who tweeted out about a half hour ago
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: more missed, miss mixed. Sorry, he said, only stop that
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: again and see if I can do it in English.
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: More mixed messaging from the Patriots. About Week one, QB
- 1:04:33Speaker 6: offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt says Jacoby Brissette is currently
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: the starter, but when asked if it could be Drake
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: may he says, quote, I'm sure there's a chance. Okay,
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: what's the miss mixed message there?
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: So this is a bit, this is a vuln thing,
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: no right as of today, to be honest, this is
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: not a violent thing.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: And this is something that's sort of like been on
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: my mind since postgame Thursday, when Gerard Mayo said, I
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: mean Friday was the day after press conference on Friday.
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: The competition is still open. I believe That's kind of
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: what he said at the start of camp.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: And then yesterday.
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: Again he had to sort of reiterate, no, no, no, Jacoby
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: Brissett is QB one right now. He never said Jacoby
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: Brissett is starting week one, at least to my knowledge.
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: So I don't really know where the miss. Like one
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: of the questions he was asked yesterday is like, what
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: about the changing message? And I really don't think he's
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: changed it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Has anyone asked the direct question is Jacoby Brissett's starting
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: week one?
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: I think people asked him if he's made if you
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: made a decision on the start or week one?
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: I think so.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Unfortunately, most of the stuff that I'm seeing on Twitter
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: with regard to Van Pelt his videos, like this is
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: what he had to say and I, you know, can't
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: do it. Watch a video.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Just a quick one that just popped in my head
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: because you're reading Twitter and I read this on Twitter. Probably, Uh,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: there's been a slight uptick on violent threats to players
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: tied to gambling in other words, people losing money and
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: oh man, you know, uh targeting, you know, violent threats
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: at athletes.
- 1:06:23Speaker 7: Yeah, it's like what it's like, was it Colombian soccer
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: or what's what's shot.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: It was an own goal. That was years That was
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: that was years ago. I didn't even think that had
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: anything to do with gambling. They were just pissed.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: I just lost.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, my food's here. Paul doesn't need anymore,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: but my food's here. So we'll take a break. It's
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: about halfway through. We'll come back. We'll get to more
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: calls and emails. Is Evan. We should text Evan, have
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: them call in or something. Just give us a you know,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: a in progress report.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: I don't think we need that.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: You don't need that.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: We got to yes, come in.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Oh we have a guest coming right, all right, well
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: we'll have a lot of antics happening after the break.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: Butt before we go, I just want to remind people

- 1:09:14Speaker 16: Well excited any chance we get to come out here
- 1:09:17Speaker 16: on the field and compete, you know today, I would
- 1:09:20Speaker 16: say this week is a little hybrid type of week
- 1:09:22Speaker 16: for us as far as preparation, still focusing on an EP,
- 1:09:25Speaker 16: but at the same time trying to make sure our
- 1:09:27Speaker 16: game planning and all.
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: That process, the scout remport process go smoothly. So out here.
- 1:09:32Speaker 16: Today you'll see some overse d Some of that stuff
- 1:09:34Speaker 16: is card it right, It's carded, so it's like Washington
- 1:09:37Speaker 16: plays offensively, defensively, and also special team.
- 1:09:40Speaker 17: So from a reps and depth chart perspective, that's why
- 1:09:45Speaker 17: I said it is the hybrid of training, camp and
- 1:09:47Speaker 17: evaluation and also getting ready for the regular season, So
- 1:09:51Speaker 17: you know, everything's evaluated, even the scout team reps are evaluated.
- 1:09:54Speaker 9: So we want those guys to give a good look.
- 1:09:56Speaker 16: At the same time, we're still evaluating those guys.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: Uh, there's a little work on on Senci.
- 1:10:04Speaker 16: But you know, as I said earlier, it's still training
- 1:10:06Speaker 16: camp for us, and it's about getting us better and
- 1:10:08Speaker 16: us on the same page.
- 1:10:08Speaker 9: We can't you know, we can't win games.
- 1:10:10Speaker 16: Until we figure out what we're doing, and that's the
- 1:10:12Speaker 16: goal that everyone is healthy.
- 1:10:15Speaker 18: Is there any thought process into how much time the
- 1:10:17Speaker 18: quarterbacks will get and you know, similar to will be
- 1:10:20Speaker 18: similar to the game two or a little different.
- 1:10:22Speaker 9: It'll be a little different.
- 1:10:24Speaker 16: I want to keep that close to the vest though,
- 1:10:25Speaker 16: but all the quarterbacks will playing again with.
- 1:10:28Speaker 17: Kendrick, is this situation where you expect them to start
- 1:10:31Speaker 17: the season on the anticipate one of those vocal you.
- 1:10:35Speaker 16: Know, when those guys are ready to come back, they'll
- 1:10:38Speaker 16: be out here practicing and that's the you know, that's
- 1:10:40Speaker 16: the hard part. I don't like to put time limits
- 1:10:42Speaker 16: or deadlines on it. When they're ready to play and
- 1:10:44Speaker 16: we get you know, we get them from the weightlifting
- 1:10:46Speaker 16: staff and also Jim Whale and his staff.
- 1:10:48Speaker 9: Then we'll go with it. It's the same one. It's
- 1:10:54Speaker 9: the same one. I am.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I gonnas.
- 1:10:57Speaker 9: So you guys have been here the whole camp.
- 1:10:59Speaker 16: But you guys, there is everybody.
- 1:11:04Speaker 9: You pause the interview. We got to kill this thing. No,
- 1:11:08Speaker 9: we do not kill bees or anything else.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Had a curious camp worked off to the side. Hasn't
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: been available for some of the days.
- 1:11:18Speaker 19: Is this something from the off season, something happened during
- 1:11:21Speaker 19: the spring or in the summer.
- 1:11:22Speaker 16: Here, Uh, that's something that happened during the summer. It's
- 1:11:24Speaker 16: I mean, I don't think it's major, but you know,
- 1:11:26Speaker 16: put him in the bucket. Once he's ready, he'll go.
- 1:11:28Speaker 16: He is dealing with something though.
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: On the scene lines with Marte Mapu were selling him
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: like first day, I want to say, not much sincere,
- 1:11:36Speaker 7: what can you tell us context wise what his situation?
- 1:11:38Speaker 16: Yeah, you know, he's one of those guys who I mean,
- 1:11:40Speaker 16: I would love to say day to day, but we're
- 1:11:42Speaker 16: probably talking weeks, weeks, week to week. I'm sure no
- 1:11:45Speaker 16: one else ever said that before to you guys, But
- 1:11:48Speaker 16: week to week.
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: Okay, people say this summer that you don't like the
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: term players coach.
- 1:11:55Speaker 16: I just think I'm an I think I'm going to
- 1:11:57Speaker 16: be a great coach. And whether you want to call
- 1:11:59Speaker 16: it whatever you want to label it as, I mean,
- 1:12:02Speaker 16: more power to you. It's the same thing. You know
- 1:12:03Speaker 16: when people say, well it was a black coach. No,
- 1:12:05Speaker 16: I want to be a good coach first. That happens
- 1:12:07Speaker 16: to be black. That's kind of how I see it.
- 1:12:09Speaker 16: I happen to be a player at one point in time.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: How do you think that manifested itself in.
- 1:12:14Speaker 11: The way you can talk to training?
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: Can this summer?
- 1:12:16Speaker 20: I mean as far as this wasn't a team that
- 1:12:19Speaker 20: gave a lot of veteran days off and things like that.
- 1:12:21Speaker 16: Yeah, because we just have to get better. You know,
- 1:12:22Speaker 16: coming off of last year have kept a bad taste
- 1:12:24Speaker 16: in our mouths. We still have a lot of players
- 1:12:26Speaker 16: that returned from then, and I almost I would say,
- 1:12:29Speaker 16: you know, they want to work and that's the most
- 1:12:31Speaker 16: exciting thing for me. They want to be out here
- 1:12:33Speaker 16: in past, they want to do live drills and things
- 1:12:35Speaker 16: like that. So that's our goal is to be better,
- 1:12:38Speaker 16: be a better team this year.
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: Playing with Drake this week to have him run some
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: of some of them, some of.
- 1:12:44Speaker 16: The cards team he can be focused more on now,
- 1:12:47Speaker 16: he'll be focused more on Patriots stuff, and he'll be
- 1:12:49Speaker 16: focused more on Washington stuff.
- 1:12:50Speaker 9: Quite frankly, what.
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: Do you want to see from the quarterbacks Drake and
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: Jacoby and potentilate this week?
- 1:12:55Speaker 9: Yeah? I think it starts with the operation.
- 1:12:57Speaker 16: I always say, you know, good huddle, good break, good play,
- 1:12:59Speaker 16: and so it starts in the huddle, then getting guys
- 1:13:01Speaker 16: lined up and going out there executing the play, you know,
- 1:13:03Speaker 16: making the right reads and moving the offense down the field.
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: When it comes to that prestat operation for Drake May,
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: is he in a place where, if he had to start,
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: you feel like he's ready or do you feel like
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: he's still kind.
- 1:13:12Speaker 16: Of coming along one hundred percent? I think he's ready
- 1:13:14Speaker 16: to run a huddle.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: You were very assessment of the offensive line in the
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: week of the Philadelphia preseason game. How do you feel
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: they've responded over the last couple of days.
- 1:13:22Speaker 9: They've responded well.
- 1:13:23Speaker 16: And I will say, you know, going back and looking
- 1:13:26Speaker 16: at the film the practice, I got that.
- 1:13:27Speaker 9: But if you were to look at the whole body.
- 1:13:29Speaker 16: Of work with our offensive line, they've done a good
- 1:13:31Speaker 16: job and they're getting better going forward.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: Between joint practices, preseason games.
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: How many snaps do you need to see from a
- 1:13:37Speaker 6: guy to say I want him on my team.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Is there a set number in your mind?
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: No, not really in my mind.
- 1:13:41Speaker 16: I think, you know, you just want people that love
- 1:13:43Speaker 16: football and that will do everything as far as preparation
- 1:13:46Speaker 16: in the weight room, in the classroom to get on
- 1:13:47Speaker 16: the field.
- 1:13:48Speaker 9: Those are the guys that I really want.
- 1:13:49Speaker 16: And I'll take a less talented guy that just loves
- 1:13:52Speaker 16: the game of football and you know he's gonna get
- 1:13:54Speaker 16: better with the high ceiling than a.
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: Player who just you know, blessed with a lot of athleticism.
- 1:13:58Speaker 9: But it's lazy. So that's how we've.
- 1:14:00Speaker 19: Talked about the offensive line you just mentioned Lydon Robinson,
- 1:14:03Speaker 19: we've seen work in a little bit more with the
- 1:14:04Speaker 19: I guess the ones in theory hate when you're saying that,
- 1:14:07Speaker 19: you know, that's why I put it in. Is it
- 1:14:11Speaker 19: because of just how he's playing, or is it something
- 1:14:13Speaker 19: that you're seeing from city. It seems that's sort.
- 1:14:15Speaker 9: Of you know, I was, you know, it is a competition.
- 1:14:17Speaker 9: I would say, you know, he's.
- 1:14:18Speaker 16: Strong, you know, a few weeks together here, and that's
- 1:14:21Speaker 16: the thing I told these guys, at the beginning of camp,
- 1:14:23Speaker 16: there are more people in this room than there are jobs,
- 1:14:26Speaker 16: and so either you're gonna.
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: Hold onto your job or someone's gonna take your job.
- 1:14:28Speaker 16: And I would say, all those guys have been battling,
- 1:14:30Speaker 16: so it's gonna be a tough decision.
- 1:14:34Speaker 9: Ladies. First, such a gentleman.
- 1:14:38Speaker 18: I asked Michael Wanner right after the first game that
- 1:14:41Speaker 18: second game if there was any plan to move in
- 1:14:43Speaker 18: the tackle, and he said, he's just been told he's
- 1:14:45Speaker 18: at guard for right now. But then we've just on
- 1:14:47Speaker 18: work at some tackle this week. What's kind of the
- 1:14:50Speaker 18: plan there.
- 1:14:51Speaker 16: I would say, Look, we always as coaches reserve the
- 1:14:53Speaker 16: right to change our mind, and I don't want that
- 1:14:55Speaker 16: to get you know, misconstrued any type of way. But
- 1:14:58Speaker 16: you know that was the plan initially. And then you know,
- 1:15:00Speaker 16: as we continue to build depth amongst the offensive line,
- 1:15:02Speaker 16: we had to move those.
- 1:15:03Speaker 18: Guys around Robinson, as you said, stringing some weeks together.
- 1:15:07Speaker 16: That No, it has everything to do with us just
- 1:15:09Speaker 16: trying to find the right combination.
- 1:15:13Speaker 9: Yeah, I really appreciate you. Such a gentlemen.
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: You brought in several players yesterday, a couple of linebackers,
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: wide receiver.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: What's thought press behind that at this stage of camp.
- 1:15:26Speaker 16: Yeah, there's no better you know, evaluation tool than getting
- 1:15:30Speaker 16: guys out here eleven v eleven and seeing what they
- 1:15:32Speaker 16: can do. You know, we're kind of limited during the
- 1:15:34Speaker 16: season to have you know, guys out there because it's
- 1:15:37Speaker 16: just a workout in the bubble. And so the thought
- 1:15:39Speaker 16: process was look bringing some players that we've identified as
- 1:15:42Speaker 16: being you know, potential candidates to be on our team
- 1:15:44Speaker 16: and see what.
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: They have guys, different guys and figures into it as well.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: But do you anticipate making cuts for the bulk of
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: your cuts on Tuesday?
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: Maybe a little bit.
- 1:15:53Speaker 16: Before with the you know, you know, that's a conversation
- 1:15:57Speaker 16: that Ella and I have had. We've gone back and
- 1:15:59Speaker 16: forth on how to really do that. What I will
- 1:16:01Speaker 16: say is, you know, when you play a Sunday night
- 1:16:02Speaker 16: game compared to a Thursday night game, you kind of
- 1:16:04Speaker 16: get you know, tight on time. So we'll have those
- 1:16:06Speaker 16: discussions here and also on the road before the game with.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: Those cuts looming.
- 1:16:11Speaker 9: Who else the final say to make those cuts? Between
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: you and Elliott?
- 1:16:14Speaker 16: Yeah, I thought it was pretty clear about this is
- 1:16:16Speaker 16: and you know, for me, Elliot and I are on
- 1:16:19Speaker 16: the same page. I hope it's always that way. You've heard,
- 1:16:21Speaker 16: you know, the horror stories around the league. As far
- 1:16:23Speaker 16: as coaching GM relationships are concerned. The final say so
- 1:16:28Speaker 16: is Elliott. We collaborate on everything. I mean we collaborate.
- 1:16:31Speaker 16: He collaborates on a little bit of scheme things. I
- 1:16:33Speaker 16: collaborate with him as far as evaluation. But I lean
- 1:16:36Speaker 16: on the experts in that world, and Elliott is that guy.
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: Do you need to come out of Sunday night with
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: a starting quarterback in your mind and you need to
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: tell them that early or what did your plan for that?
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: I would say by Monday night we should know who
- 1:16:48Speaker 9: the quarterback is.
- 1:16:49Speaker 16: You know, Sunday night game it's always hard to really
- 1:16:51Speaker 16: crank through the film, you know, especially on the road.
- 1:16:53Speaker 16: But I think Monday, Monday, Tuesday, we probably needn't know
- 1:16:56Speaker 16: who it is.
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: Now. That doesn't mean I'll tell you on Monday to day.
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: And that defensive tackle spot where you had Christian Barmore
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: we talked about Farms and the preseason opener have seemed
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: pretty active.
- 1:17:08Speaker 9: God show who else anyone else in there that.
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: Is catching your eye at that defensive tackle spot inside?
- 1:17:14Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean you can you can throw Dan in
- 1:17:16Speaker 16: there as well. He's one of these guys who you know,
- 1:17:18Speaker 16: he's a penetrator. We know exactly what he is and
- 1:17:20Speaker 16: he's a good player for us. And we also have
- 1:17:22Speaker 16: guys on the perimeter on the outside, I would say
- 1:17:24Speaker 16: that can slide inside on Thard down.
- 1:17:27Speaker 9: So those are all things that that we've thought there.
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: When someone accidentally threw the school play costumes, replacements were
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery, everyone
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where now
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: it's next for residential delivery only and now great moments in.
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: History only been on a team like Brandon Cooks. Yeah,
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: change his teams every year. I'm just might not that
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: knowledge of a system forget that's again. I was given
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: direct the props, that's right. I don't understand what his
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: age has to do with anything.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: I think his age has to do with a lot
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: of it's and you're talking trade. I think another team
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: is taking into consideration.
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: The guy's age, right, don't why because he's old, because
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: he doesn't know my system, that's what you said. This
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: is the only thing that I disagree he said is
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: that he's more valuable to the Patriots, because that's right,
- 1:18:23Speaker 6: and that's nothing to do with age.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: But at his age, he has less to contribute to
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: another team, the Patriots.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: That's why I don't think because he's old.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: About two minutes later, who.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: Is more valuable to another team with the Patriots?
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: The Patriots?
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Because he is on the Patriot Get it.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: You can't even answer, you know, forget it. It's it's over.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: It's okay, so ding ding ding, it's over. Let's move on.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: About five minutes later, that's ridiculous. See, this is what happened.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: You can't have it. You can't have any because you can't.
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: Thank you're not allowed to disagree with Fred. Thank you,
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: you're not allowed don't disagree.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Thanks for giving me credit for that.
- 1:19:07Speaker 6: Don't disagree, Fred, I'm sorry, appreciate. I'm sure I hurt
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: your feelings by disagreeing with you.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: I'm I don't think I sound like the one who's
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: upset here.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: No oh no, you very much sound like the one
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: who's upset. That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: We just like that ended at something. I mean, it's
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: like it's like I have to put down a vampire
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: exactly like it keeps coming back exactly.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: Get decided hard, you've decided that it's still.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: If anyone had a floater in their eye. Oh yeah,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: oh yeah, oh yeah, I've never had one until now,
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: freaking annoying. Yeah yeah, no, mine looks like andy right now.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: It's like looking at me.
- 1:19:53Speaker 7: You can't they can't get it out. They can't flush it.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Or no, you can't. No, it's not on your eye.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: It's in your eye of floating one. You can't flush
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: him out. No, this isn't I thought this happened on Monday.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: I thought it was something on my eyes. I'm trying
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: to get it out. So I went to the optometrist
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: and he said, no, this is It either goes away
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: on its own or you just learned to live with it.
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: When I had when I had floaters as a kid,
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: my mom always told me to flush him.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I was that was no, No, that's not a floater though,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: that's something that's like an eyelash or left me behind.
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: You didn't, that was that was comic genius said.
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: When I was and I had a float on, my
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: mom always told me to flush them.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Oh you're talking about something else that you're talking about
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: potty potty talk.
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: You didn't blink.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: I was no, because that's what I was trying to do.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: I was trying to flush my eye out, and it
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: wasn't leaving it, you know, But it's it's annoying. Floaters
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: get flushed, that's yeah. Have you had ever had a floater?
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: I don't think so. No bugging my eye like junking
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: your eyes. No, this is in your eye, it's not
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: on your So just go away. Eventually, sometimes they don't.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: They just he said, you just get used to him,
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: and you never you don't notice him anymore. I don't
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: see how you wouldn't notice. It's your freaking vision.
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: With your buy Knox, watch him from the press box
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: getting the curse words blogout. You're gonna have that floater
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: and anyway something random.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, So to my left is no socks. To talk
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: about him a lot. He does wear socks when he
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: wears sneakers, though, that's the that's the irony of the
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: whole thing. When he wears shoes, no sock. But Matt
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: Smith is here, and the reason why he's here is
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: we're going to introduce him as the new host of
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: the pre and postgame show, So welcome aboard, Matt. Although, Matt,
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: how long have you been.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: With the team?
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: A little over twenty years? A little over twenty years.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: All access the preseason games and a lot of the
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: long form videos that we do, for example, the Brady
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: sit down with his family that we did for the
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: that's all Matt Smith. He does all that stuff behind it.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: But just because he's behind the scenes doesn't mean he
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: doesn't have opinions and he's going to bring them hard.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: I'm the preseason I'm the point for these.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: Two and do not worry everybody.
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: We will still have a period of Jaws talk every week.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: We're getting mad up.
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: He's been brushing out.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: He watched it. Just because you're the host and you know,
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: the point guard doesn't mean I don't want you to
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: have your own opinions, no problem.
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: It's a challenging thing. Fred, and I know you've hosted
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: this for a while, but I you know, when I
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: filled in format for a couple of the pre pregame
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: shows too, you know, cart out some space for yourself
- 1:22:37Speaker 7: to express what you're you know what I mean. It's
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: easy for me. Yeah, yeah, well, you know it's just
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: it's it's I feel like it's an art form that
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: that's on a hard.
- 1:22:44Speaker 6: And I will also say, as we came back from
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: break there and that was a great moment in PU
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: history there. I'm not always as irrationally angry, uh when
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: I'm when I'm talking about things as I wasn't that
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: that we need to get rid of that clip?
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: That might be my all time worst. I was real,
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: I would make me laugh too hard, that I was
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: Fred and I were in circles.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: I was. None of us look good when we get
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: into those things.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: I think we have good arguments sometimes and we just
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: kind of move on. That one was really I was
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: really bad in that one. I was pointless.
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: Was I even on the show at that part?
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: Was just there with yeah, oh yeah, that was a
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: really bad one with Megan or whoever it was, Alex
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: or when Paul and I got going and you guys
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: first started, it was like, oh my god, yeah, the
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: parents are fighting. Yeah, but you don't understand that's what
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: we do.
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: What No, I got it now. I just enjoy it.
- 1:23:35Speaker 9: I mean, I.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: Usually they have a point. I was really bad in
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: that clip.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: You mean, like, do rivers have Tides.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: That was Andy.
- 1:23:41Speaker 7: I know Andy was talking about rivers have ties. He said,
- 1:23:44Speaker 7: people still to this day something they like. Yell at him,
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: you still like tides?
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: Yeah, he'll post something random on Twitter about his son
- 1:23:52Speaker 6: or something like does he believe in tides?
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: So, Matt, what you're following? Uh, Big Shoes hard a
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: lot of people. We've had a lot of hosts for
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: the Postgame Show, but I don't think anyone was it.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Why do you think that what do you think that
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: that is? Is that something about you guys?
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: Because Fread's the kingmaker?
- 1:24:10Speaker 13: No?
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: No, no, so you want to make them the kingmaker?
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: Maybe?
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Do they want to leave on their own? Is there? Well? Yeah,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: they get they get better opportunity. Correct. But Hardy was
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: here for a number of years. I think I don't
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: think of all, I think he was the most universally loved.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Everyone loved, heart and agree more.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: I think Big Shoes never heard anybody say anything really bad.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Yeah that's a rare trait.
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: So, Matt, what are you going to bring to the show?
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: What's your what's your plan? Well?
- 1:24:35Speaker 21: I think the first thing is to try to fit
- 1:24:37Speaker 21: in because there's a successful operation that's going on.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: So it's not about one person.
- 1:24:42Speaker 21: In derailing what obviously has worked for very many years,
- 1:24:46Speaker 21: what you guys have built up. So you're not going
- 1:24:49Speaker 21: to come in guns of blazing right out of the way.
- 1:24:52Speaker 21: But I would hope that as things go on there's
- 1:24:55Speaker 21: a level of analysis that differs from what they do
- 1:25:04Speaker 21: just be you know, Paul hates everything. Mike is certainly
- 1:25:10Speaker 21: more measured, and I would say I'm closer to Mike
- 1:25:14Speaker 21: from a measured standpoint.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Maybe with a little bit more venom. Is that fair?
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: I think it's fair. Yeah, that sounds I mean, So
- 1:25:22Speaker 7: to paint the picture, Matt and Paul sit next to
- 1:25:24Speaker 7: each other and I sit a cross so there's a
- 1:25:26Speaker 7: little little area in between, and I always call it
- 1:25:29Speaker 7: the speed trap because these two are figuring out the
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: problems of the world in that little area and it's
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: easy to just get stuck and talking with them about
- 1:25:38Speaker 7: the troubles of the world. So you guys have a
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: good and like you mentioned, pass from the past. That's
- 1:25:42Speaker 7: a you know, you guys have chemistry as well for
- 1:25:45Speaker 7: a while, and people should know you from that as well.
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: But yeah, it's a no, it's I mean, there's already
- 1:25:51Speaker 7: a little bit of a dynamic. I think that that.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Give us two truths and a lie.
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: He's got some good ones.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: You're gonna have to I apologize, Fred. Is that me?
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: It's truth and a lie?
- 1:26:03Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: About you? About you?
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: Hm?
- 1:26:11Speaker 21: Ask Mike about again, just to give you I'm unprepared
- 1:26:14Speaker 21: for that question.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: You got to give me a second.
- 1:26:15Speaker 21: Two truths and a lie.
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: I can think of some good truths for you, Matt.
- 1:26:18Speaker 7: I don't want to. I don't want to stumble on you.
- 1:26:19Speaker 7: But there's there's a couple of m.
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: It could be simple stuff.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: How about the lie would be to get it?
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: It's like I attended Boston University. I played baseball in college.
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: I was drafted in the fifth round.
- 1:26:39Speaker 21: Yeah, I need to get up to speed on that
- 1:26:41Speaker 21: best two truths and a lie? Yeah right, okay, all right,
- 1:26:45Speaker 21: I okay, give me two seconds.
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: I would say too while you're thinking, Matt. Another interesting
- 1:26:50Speaker 7: thing about Matt is that being where you've been, I
- 1:26:53Speaker 7: feel like you have had a lot of really interesting
- 1:26:56Speaker 7: access over the years of things that you've seen or
- 1:26:59Speaker 7: nobody's here, nobody's I mean, you're you're like, I mean
- 1:27:02Speaker 7: you have ownership, head coaches, I mean, people are just
- 1:27:07Speaker 7: cycling through the studio at all hours of every day,
- 1:27:09Speaker 7: and they're always coming to see you. And you know
- 1:27:12Speaker 7: you you see and hear a lot of things.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: No question.
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: When people here you speak, they should understand.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: Tom Brady Knight, I appreciate that. Hey, Babe, how you doing?
- 1:27:20Speaker 7: You got a babe doing?
- 1:27:20Speaker 9: Babe?
- 1:27:21Speaker 7: Didn't get the kiss?
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: Though only Fred can get the kiss?
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Did you get a kiss? No? Oh you did?
- 1:27:27Speaker 9: Wow?
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: Not that previously?
- 1:27:30Speaker 21: Okay, here we go. I was born in Wyoming. I
- 1:27:34Speaker 21: grew up in New Hampshire, and my first job out
- 1:27:36Speaker 21: of school was selling insurance.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: Uh the insurance.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: Why born in Wyoming?
- 1:27:41Speaker 9: Why?
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: Why born in Wyoming?
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: Why? Okay? But one another thing that people should know
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: about you is you're an Orioles fan. I like the
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: logo Fred like I don't live and die with the team.
- 1:27:52Speaker 21: Although here's why I would be an Orioles fan if
- 1:27:54Speaker 21: somebody's gonna push me into it.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: The first baseball.
- 1:27:57Speaker 21: Game I ever attended with my father was in nineteen
- 1:28:00Speaker 21: seventy one at Fenway Park. And my father ran a
- 1:28:04Speaker 21: hotel in Florida in spring training and he sometimes befriended.
- 1:28:08Speaker 21: It was the Yankees in the day, and he befriended
- 1:28:10Speaker 21: a guy by the name of Billy Hunter.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: Who was the third base coach.
- 1:28:14Speaker 21: So this is not with all kinds of security, everything
- 1:28:17Speaker 21: centuries ago. And he goes up to a security guard
- 1:28:20Speaker 21: and he goes, hey, could you tell Billy Hunter that
- 1:28:22Speaker 21: Bud Smith's here to say hi? And so the security guard, oh,
- 1:28:25Speaker 21: you I've heard that all the time, brings a note
- 1:28:27Speaker 21: and Billy Hunter comes out, Come on in my dad
- 1:28:30Speaker 21: and little Matt Smith, Matt, I want you to meet
- 1:28:33Speaker 21: Jim Palmer. Say hi to Jim Palmer. Hey, Matt, say
- 1:28:36Speaker 21: how to Frank Robinson. Hey, Matt, this is Brooks Robinson.
- 1:28:39Speaker 21: What team do you think i'd move for?
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: Right now? Listen, that is a perfect example of you
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: get him young, right, and you have that in person
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: memory right and they're hooked. Yes, yeah, no question.
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: Yeah me here, I remember that same thing.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:28:54Speaker 7: So yeah, I mean just burn in my brain. The
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: first time I walked up to the entrance of the
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: old stadium and the way that it sat on the
- 1:29:00Speaker 7: top of the hill close to the highway, I just
- 1:29:04Speaker 7: you know, I've been to Fendway, I've been to the
- 1:29:05Speaker 7: Boston Garden, but there's just something about that where it's
- 1:29:07Speaker 7: like a castle hill, so much going on.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: I guarantee you at that joint practice, somebody became an
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: Eagles fan because they got up close and personal with
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, hopefully Patriots.
- 1:29:18Speaker 21: Fans and I would hope the same thing when they
- 1:29:20Speaker 21: got a chance to meet Drake May. Yeah, you know
- 1:29:22Speaker 21: and jump in get in early.
- 1:29:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's that. That's why these memorabilia conventions and
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: you know, you buy cards or you buy autographs, that's
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: not memorabilia. There's no memory at crouched to it, right,
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: No I don't.
- 1:29:36Speaker 7: I don't still have it. But if I did, it
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: was just a white Patriots one of those little inflatable
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: footballs that I got at the game. But it was
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: you know, that was always the trigger. And I mean
- 1:29:47Speaker 7: I still like that's I always just remind myself of
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: like thinking back to that person. Some day you're gonna
- 1:29:52Speaker 7: be a part of all this. That's how cool is that.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: That's kind a similar to My dad had a hardware
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: store in New York and Brooklyn, and when I was
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: a little kid, I go in and work there and
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: make keys for people. And one day I'm in the
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: back and my father calls me up front and he
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: introduces me to Gil Hodges, you know, and Gil signs
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: the thing. We framed it, and it's like, I'm a
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: Mets fan, you know.
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: It's like going Happy Days when Howard Cunningham had the
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: hardware store and Hank Aaron came there.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: You go, It's like the same thing, It's the same
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: must have gotten it from you.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: He probably did, probably did.
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: So everybody's like, you think there was really an episode
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: of Happy Days where Hank Aaron came in the county.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Yes, I didn't just make that up.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: So so congrats, you know, welcome to the thank you
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: and post game. You'll be debuting Sunday night.
- 1:30:40Speaker 20: Yep, so you're right into the fire, right into the
- 1:30:43Speaker 20: fire on Sunday Night. Lake Game pre season week three.
- 1:30:48Speaker 20: I'm gonna tiptoe into this one. Might have a special
- 1:30:51Speaker 20: guest for you on that first pre game. You bring
- 1:30:54Speaker 20: in your own guests.
- 1:30:54Speaker 21: Now we're efforting that, we're efforting that it's trending in
- 1:30:58Speaker 21: the right direction. I know Paul is not a big
- 1:31:00Speaker 21: fan of guest and I understand that, but it.
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: Takes away from his time.
- 1:31:04Speaker 21: This one might be a little bit be a little
- 1:31:06Speaker 21: bit different.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: One might be a little different.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: So I would say I am not a fan of
- 1:31:10Speaker 6: the the player interview.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: I know, and I do like we have a guest.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: The reporters are terrific.
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: We we do have a guest every week. Uh, you
- 1:31:20Speaker 6: know we we used to call it behind enemy Lines.
- 1:31:22Speaker 6: I know that's kind of do still call it that.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: I still think it's it's okay because we're not being literal,
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: We're not talking about actual war, and I think we
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: still play. Yeah, we're all adults. We can understand the
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: difference between you know, what's real and what's you know,
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: funding games and sports. I think that's one of our
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: best segments of the pregame. Bring in the out of
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: town writer. I think I always learn a lot, so
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: I assume that listeners are going to learn something too.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: I think that's a great Dave, great.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Buzzy came in and it's always even.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: He's an Eagles guy for a long time.
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: Philadelphia. He's been around for a long time.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: A little bit better looking.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: Well that goes.
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: Without saying, but they when they when it's a home
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: game and they come down to be in the studio,
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: it's even better, Yes, creed even better Greed.
- 1:32:09Speaker 21: So, Mike, I'm going to ask you a question here.
- 1:32:11Speaker 21: Girod says that the we're gonna we need to play
- 1:32:16Speaker 21: What do you what does it? What does that mean
- 1:32:18Speaker 21: to you? How do you read that for Sunday Night?
- 1:32:20Speaker 7: I read it is Jacoby Rissett is gonna go a
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: couple of series, and May is gonna go, like I say,
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: like a couple series, few series that be Milton time,
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: you know, And I hope that Joe Milton makes it
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: interesting for us. That's what I'm hoping for in the
- 1:32:32Speaker 7: second half that you know. I think he got a
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: lot of buzz after that first appearance and the last
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: appearance not so much. And it's been really quiet for
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: him ever since that hype train kind of left. I'd
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: like to see him progress a little bit, like to
- 1:32:44Speaker 7: see him get out there. And you know, I mean,
- 1:32:45Speaker 7: we got to find something that we got to focus
- 1:32:47Speaker 7: on in the second half.
- 1:32:48Speaker 21: You know, has Evan checked in and taken attendance? What's
- 1:32:52Speaker 21: the deal with the left tech that there's.
- 1:32:54Speaker 7: No tweeting from practice? So I guess we could effort.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: Just give him a text, tell McCall into the show,
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: give him the number.
- 1:33:01Speaker 21: His boy Bart tweets up a storm during practice. Is
- 1:33:03Speaker 21: he does he violated during practice?
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: We're not supposed to do it during practice?
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Now does it all the time? Well, in the past,
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: once the fans left.
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's when you Okay, so it changed.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: Okay, you could do it during regular plenty.
- 1:33:18Speaker 21: If the fans are here, you could do it because
- 1:33:20Speaker 21: there's no way to prohibit Johnny fan from doing Jane.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: So all right, eight five five, pass five hundred.
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: Back to like, I know this is going to give
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: the number no, no, I know, but like I wanted to,
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: you know, touch base on Matt's sort of question about
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: what we're expecting to see.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: I know this is going to be our show Sunday night.
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: Sure, but do you.
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: Think if Brissett goes out there and starts, and you know,
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: they put together a reason, you know, maybe they stack
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: a couple of first downs, he's out right after that?
- 1:33:52Speaker 21: Like I think, I think, I think he gets another series.
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: How about that I think he plays Do you.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: Have you know?
- 1:33:57Speaker 6: Because I always don't be offended by this is always
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: the question I ask Fred no, because sometimes you know,
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: the people that are at a larger state.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: You know, don't they know stuff than us? We don't
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: know stuff. You guys know stuff. Both of you.
- 1:34:11Speaker 6: You have the ability to talk to you. I always
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: ask Fred, is this from some this is not some
- 1:34:15Speaker 6: inside knowledge? Okay, so I'd be surprised. I think that
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: they might both be done by the end of the
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: first quarter.
- 1:34:22Speaker 21: You still get two series in each. If you do
- 1:34:23Speaker 21: that possible well first quarter, that would really worry me.
- 1:34:27Speaker 21: Then I mean, you went three and otight times.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: Maybe and our defense would have had to be real good.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: Yeah, So I think that they they probably want to
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: see a glimmer of production from the question. That's why
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: I say, if they get like two first downs, you know,
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: maybe three, you know, ten plays out, you know, and
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: then may you want to get him, you know, get
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: you got to get him some work just because he
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: needs the work. And then you know, you got to
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: get all the guys out of there. Yeah, you know,
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: it's still a preseason game. You don't want to risk it.
- 1:35:02Speaker 7: Evan. Evan said he can call in, but he wanted
- 1:35:04Speaker 7: to remind us that we are technically not supposed to
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: tweet until after practice.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: I didn't ask him, not the christ tweet.
- 1:35:09Speaker 21: But you know, let's stay stay within the stay within
- 1:35:12Speaker 21: the real there's no need especial.
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: You know, it's all right, Let's leave that one alone, right.
- 1:35:18Speaker 9: All right?
- 1:35:19Speaker 13: Uh?
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: Vincent and North Carolina writes and longtime listener love the show.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Do you have a concern about the scheduling you mentioned earlier?
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: While you, Paul and Mike are essential to the show,
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: the energy Evan brings is crucial regardless of the take.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: A call in from the sideline probably wouldn't have the
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: same effect. Could another high energy football first mine be
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: on the horizon for the show. By the way, Mike
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: des so with a five year jump and probably the
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: best offseason of any Patriot this year. Congratulations Mike, the
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: five year.
- 1:35:54Speaker 7: Jump, five years jump?
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: Fine?
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: Nice? That was Andy? Hardis you jump?
- 1:36:01Speaker 7: I do you think though? That's a funny thing? Like
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: you know, when the cock eyed optimist in me gets
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: like what about this guy? And then like Paul loves overmind,
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: like these guys don't break out in their six years dudes?
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: You know? Like probably right? All right? A five five
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: pats five hundred is the age ticket hout line. Kendall's
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: in North Carolina hate Kendall.
- 1:36:19Speaker 22: Hey, what's going on? Guys?
- 1:36:20Speaker 7: Hey Kennel?
- 1:36:21Speaker 15: Hey, I got a question by that on the FI shows,
- 1:36:25Speaker 15: like what this year, who's gonna be the cast for
- 1:36:28Speaker 15: I'm gonna just I'm living this year. Who's gonna be
- 1:36:30Speaker 15: the cast for the pres in the post game?
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: Well you're looking at three of them right here. So
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: you have Matt Smith, Mike you So, and Paul Parrillo
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: and you know Wrinkling it's maroon.
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: Various roles were figuring that out.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Yep, yep, and for post getting the same same crew. Okay,
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: And I'll be stopping in on the home'll be here
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: for home games and for home games, I'll stop in.
- 1:36:55Speaker 22: Oh okay. And one more question, is there anything that
- 1:36:59Speaker 22: Nate with play like you against? And they played like
- 1:37:06Speaker 22: they could kitchen a couple of balls of a sudden,
- 1:37:07Speaker 22: they watched it, and who do you think they were?
- 1:37:10Speaker 22: Starting with hit Manny?
- 1:37:12Speaker 7: I don't see it.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:37:14Speaker 7: I just I think it's Jacoby Brissett. I'm barring gjury
- 1:37:17Speaker 7: set getting hurt. I just think all this like speculation.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 1:37:22Speaker 7: Nothing's really changed. The reps have basically remained the same,
- 1:37:25Speaker 7: you know. That's and that's what they've been telling us
- 1:37:27Speaker 7: the whole time, that this is why they brought Jacoby
- 1:37:29Speaker 7: Presett in.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: But I think the bigger question that I have, and
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: thanks for the call, Kendill, appreciate it, is why have
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: the reps remained the same? Like why don't we see
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: at least an even split of reps with the with
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: David you know, I say David Andrews because when he's
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: in there, that's the starters.
- 1:37:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's a good question. I mean, I
- 1:37:51Speaker 7: you know, if if it was Bill here, I'd almost
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: feel like he was doing it as a preventative measure,
- 1:37:55Speaker 7: not to allow talking points to emerge from that kind
- 1:37:58Speaker 7: of thing, which seems silly to me. But I don't know,
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: it's a good question. I mean, I think I don't
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: think anyone can argue that this has been a legitimate
- 1:38:06Speaker 7: competition on the field. That was back and forth and
- 1:38:09Speaker 7: you know, but but I don't know. I think back
- 1:38:11Speaker 7: to Mac Jones and and Cam Newton. How did that
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: reveal itself? How were those reps?
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:38:16Speaker 7: And because that wasn't even you than you then you
- 1:38:19Speaker 7: it was weird. It was Cam first and then a
- 1:38:21Speaker 7: bunch of Macs. Strange.
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: The word competition is really not accurate. We are waiting
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: for Drake May to be ready. It's not a competition.
- 1:38:32Speaker 21: In order to do that, he hasn't gotten And in
- 1:38:35Speaker 21: order to do that, don't forget, they still have to
- 1:38:37Speaker 21: get Brissette ready to play like he needs that time
- 1:38:41Speaker 21: so great. We're not talking about a finished product here.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:38:44Speaker 21: He needs as much time to get them ready to
- 1:38:46Speaker 21: be as good as he can.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: Be, you know.
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: And that's what makes it a little bit different. And
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: I've said this a million times, I know, than the
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: Green Bay examples that were always hit over the head
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: with you know, it's easy to give Jordan Love all
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: the reps and pre season never gonna because Aaron Rodgers
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: already knows everything he needs to know. Jacoby Pressett is
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: new to the team. Yes, he has some comfort in
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: this system, but it's been a couple of years and
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: he needs all the work you can get.
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: It's a tough needle to threat.
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: All these all this talk about, well, you know this
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: team did it this way. This Every situation is different,
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: and every quarterback is different. There's no right or wrong way.
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: They're all different because of the person and the situation.
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: Well, the frustrating thing to me, too, is that they
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: thought well, the pack away, and I mean we've talked
- 1:39:31Speaker 7: about this being a pain in the butt, you know that. Well, yeah,
- 1:39:34Speaker 7: the packerway is easy when you have Brett fav and
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: then you have Aaron Rodgers. But I mean, I would
- 1:39:37Speaker 7: say the real packerway, having read the packer Away book,
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: was he knew we wanted Brett far He knew we
- 1:39:42Speaker 7: wanted Brett Farv and that was That was it. That
- 1:39:45Speaker 7: was the packerway. Was I know what quarterback I want.
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: I'm gonna go.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: We tried to do the pack away when we drafted Garoppolo.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: That was the pack away, but Brady outlived it. Yeah,
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: he didn't know along with that. Yeah, So anyways, David
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: Bethlehem writes out, how have offensive coaches done so far?
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: Peters and Kugler or is it Coogler? I'm sorry, sound
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: like they're doing fine. What about McAdoo, Underwood a VP.
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: I mean, I mean, everybody talks to them out today
- 1:40:18Speaker 7: they did offensive coaches. We've only really talked to them,
- 1:40:20Speaker 7: I think once.
- 1:40:20Speaker 21: This is he asked me specifically about Prescott.
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: How do they do?
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: How are they doing as a coach?
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: How they're doing is coach?
- 1:40:27Speaker 21: Because why would we say that the offensive line coaches
- 1:40:29Speaker 21: are doing, Like, what's to tell anybody whether they're doing
- 1:40:33Speaker 21: well or not well?
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: He doesn't know about the strike system. You don't know
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: about the strike.
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: System pulling well, you're absolutely right, Like the offense, I'm
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: not saying they're like really at all.
- 1:40:43Speaker 21: But I don't want to sit there and say they're
- 1:40:44Speaker 21: not doing well. But I just I would have trouble with,
- 1:40:48Speaker 21: you know, just taking this person at his word that
- 1:40:51Speaker 21: they're doing fine.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: I think he doesn't know. I'm a big believer in the.
- 1:40:55Speaker 21: Fact that, look, everybody's interested in the quarterback.
- 1:40:59Speaker 9: I get it.
- 1:40:59Speaker 21: Until they get the offensive line situated, I'm not sure
- 1:41:01Speaker 21: it really is going to matter who's a quarterback, quite honestly,
- 1:41:04Speaker 21: because that's so unsettled, the strike system.
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: There's no way of knowing how those coaches. I mean,
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: I would say, like in two thousand and seven, like
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: I don't know was chattoshade of receivers coach.
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: Nicko Sario might have been. I don't know, Like I
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: don't know, like how did he do that?
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: I don't know?
- 1:41:23Speaker 6: Or is it Randy Moss got twenty three touchdowns and
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: Wes Welcome caught one hundred and twenty passes.
- 1:41:27Speaker 21: Here's here's a patch from the past take by the way,
- 1:41:31Speaker 21: where I think a guy like Peter's.
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: Is going to be in a tough spot.
- 1:41:37Speaker 21: All Patriot fans remember from an offensive line standpoint, is
- 1:41:40Speaker 21: Dante Scarnakia and every offensive line coach is always going
- 1:41:44Speaker 21: to be greater. Well, you know, why don't they just
- 1:41:46Speaker 21: call Dante, Well, Dante's right down the street. Why don't
- 1:41:48Speaker 21: they bring him in a consult and everything like that.
- 1:41:50Speaker 21: It's not fair to whoever the new people are coming
- 1:41:53Speaker 21: in because Dante is so revered and is everybody in
- 1:41:57Speaker 21: the public knows who he is and knows what his
- 1:41:59Speaker 21: track record was.
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I would say, you know, you have
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: to really dig down to But I mean I think
- 1:42:04Speaker 7: Drake May has shown progression. I think that's a positive
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: reflection on the job that they've done. I would say
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: that Jalen Polk has been a productive receiver, and he's
- 1:42:12Speaker 7: coming to camp and looks like he gets it. So,
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: I mean, I think those things reflect positively. I think
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: that Titan Baker, well, I mean I would say that
- 1:42:23Speaker 7: that might be an issue, that that might be an issue.
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: I think Baker, like if you had to say, right now,
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: one of the week one in actives probably is going
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: to be Javon Baker.
- 1:42:34Speaker 21: Yeah, Mike Paul shows like to say how much has
- 1:42:40Speaker 21: Drake may progressed?
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: Though?
- 1:42:42Speaker 21: Is the progression enough as we're getting here to August
- 1:42:46Speaker 21: twenty second, is that enough of a progression for him?
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing we were talking before. We know
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: what we see. We don't see what goes on in
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: the classroom, right and all that stuff, And maybe that's
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: where it's set. Is still clearly ahead of him.
- 1:42:59Speaker 7: I would say I would see this, Matt. I would
- 1:43:01Speaker 7: say I've seen him progress in seven on seven. I've
- 1:43:04Speaker 7: seen him where early on it was a struggle, and
- 1:43:07Speaker 7: I think generally now when he has a seven on
- 1:43:09Speaker 7: seven period, there's gould be more good plays than bad plays.
- 1:43:12Speaker 7: It's consistency for me, that's the biggest element for him.
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: And carry it over into eleven on eleven not as much,
- 1:43:19Speaker 7: not as much. That's that's the next step. That's where
- 1:43:22Speaker 7: I would say, no, it hasn't gone far enough, But
- 1:43:24Speaker 7: I will give him credit in the seven on seven, Pio.
- 1:43:26Speaker 21: Did he turn the corner in that first seven on
- 1:43:27Speaker 21: seven and the joint practices against Philly in your po
- 1:43:31Speaker 21: you think he did so on the seven on seven
- 1:43:33Speaker 21: you should is where you noticed his progression. No, he
- 1:43:36Speaker 21: was pretty good seven on seven in that first joint practice. Yeah,
- 1:43:39Speaker 21: I mean, I would say more check back. He was
- 1:43:42Speaker 21: really upset with himself after that. When he talked to
- 1:43:44Speaker 21: wesn you were in at that meeting on Wednesday, he
- 1:43:47Speaker 21: talked about some of that stuff, like he was too
- 1:43:49Speaker 21: quick to pull the trigger on the shallow stick and
- 1:43:52Speaker 21: didn't wait for it too.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: I remember after that practice, you know, the early reports.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: I watched walk by a TV and McAfee was on it.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: It's like, oh, reports out of the joint practice in
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: Foxborough is that you know, Drake mays nine.
- 1:44:05Speaker 6: For nine because he completed a future is completed a
- 1:44:08Speaker 6: bunch of passing and no one indicated that like forwards
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: to ramondre Stevenson, you know, and and that was like,
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: I'm with I think that the game that's where like
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: and I don't know if that was something mentally to
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: your point, Fred, I don't know what's going on behind
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: the scenes, but he's looked like a different guy from
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: that game.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: The practice is since last Thursday. It's one week from today, Yep.
- 1:44:32Speaker 7: I think it was them look like a different guy game. Thursday,
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: we had a Saturday non padded and then Sunday. I
- 1:44:38Speaker 7: think it's actually Sunday that I think it was that
- 1:44:40Speaker 7: practice where I think it was only like three reps
- 1:44:43Speaker 7: in the red zone of red zone sevens but he
- 1:44:45Speaker 7: hit three touchdowns.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: I think it was Jane Bella and.
- 1:44:49Speaker 7: So like that was where it was like okay, like
- 1:44:52Speaker 7: but again it's red zone seven on seven. That's where
- 1:44:55Speaker 7: I've seen the progress. It's got to carry over and
- 1:44:57Speaker 7: that the name of the game to me with him
- 1:44:59Speaker 7: is consistency ca and he take his good plays and
- 1:45:01Speaker 7: if you look back at a lot of the scouting reports,
- 1:45:03Speaker 7: this was something that going back to there inconsistent has
- 1:45:06Speaker 7: big plays, then it's a couple of bad plays. So
- 1:45:09Speaker 7: I think the results is, you.
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: Know, regarding mey says David and Bethlehem, remember swimming in
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: a cold lake in New Hampshire. Remain would you rather
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: tiptoe in or just dive in?
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: Have some experience in cold lakes in New Hampshire.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: I'm a tiptoe guy.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Tiptoe tiptoe into cold water.
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: I gotta get I gotta get used to it get
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: some on the wrists sposed to just stay above that
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: nether region level.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: Yes, sir, yeah, no, you're a dive in.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: You gotta dive in.
- 1:45:40Speaker 7: You're a sadist.
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how that's how you do it. You rip
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: off that band again.
- 1:45:48Speaker 21: I think every situation individually is there's a it's it's
- 1:45:52Speaker 21: unique for every single one.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: Let's see, this is a kind of an off Patriots question,
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: but still NFL h Nakodi. I think with the NFL
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: adding more games to the regular season, well, they haven't yet,
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: but they will. Do you think there's a likelihood of
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: more teams being added with more games E expansion?
- 1:46:19Speaker 7: Yes, no, thirty two teams, eighteen games, two preseason games
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: and let's just stop. Let's agree right.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: There to Yeah, I don't think you'll see more teams,
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: but they're definitely going to be going to eighteen games
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: at some points.
- 1:46:34Speaker 7: Talent pool too, it's like a certain.
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: How fast like do you guys, how fast do you
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: think that will be?
- 1:46:40Speaker 21: Chance it could be next I think there's a chance
- 1:46:42Speaker 21: it could be next year, could be next year. I
- 1:46:44Speaker 21: think there's a chance it could be I think within
- 1:46:46Speaker 21: two years later.
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: Than continuing to take out bread and butter away. It's
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: awful be down to two off permanently.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but there'll be two special games.
- 1:46:57Speaker 7: Doesn't this special?
- 1:46:58Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:46:58Speaker 21: Is there a threat of anybody? I'm thinking about it?
- 1:47:00Speaker 21: Like Nashville's got a new stadium going up, Buffalo's got
- 1:47:04Speaker 21: a new stadium going up. Looks like Jacksonville has made
- 1:47:06Speaker 21: peace with the town.
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: Is there any town or team holding a town hostage?
- 1:47:11Speaker 21: Am I missing somebody that where there's a chance to move?
- 1:47:14Speaker 21: Kansas City that's never gonna have a I mean probably
- 1:47:17Speaker 21: not gonna in cages, but that'll get done.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Is that it like there's no real time.
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: He's got a new place coming huh yeah.
- 1:47:24Speaker 21: Where there's actually less seats than in the current place,
- 1:47:28Speaker 21: is what I was told.
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: So I think that's a trend.
- 1:47:31Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, how much smaller demand?
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: Maybe ten thousand?
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: I mean, how many seats are they cut out of
- 1:47:39Speaker 7: this place since they opened in two thousand?
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: This is first show and what are we doing five years?
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: Jump off?
- 1:47:49Speaker 9: Now?
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: You made me lose my trying to thought.
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: It's gonna go Robert on the West Wing?
- 1:47:56Speaker 8: It was.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: It was along the lines of the oh so n
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: C double a football they're gonna be adding twelve teams
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: to the playoffs. I think that's gonna be Well, we're
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: gonna have twelve teams, they're gonna have twelve the playoffs.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: It's actually gonna be sixteen.
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: So obviously that's exciting. I think people are jazzed about that.
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: What's the NFL thinking about that? Oh, you're gonna try to, you.
- 1:48:22Speaker 7: Know, take some of our money team money, right, So then.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: I'm thinking, Okay, you know, we have more Saturday games. Now,
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: we have Christmas games, now we have like, is the
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: NFL thinking not so fast in cuble a, We're gonna
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: we're gonna come at you now on Saturdays.
- 1:48:35Speaker 7: Well maybe eighteen games would allow you to push things
- 1:48:38Speaker 7: out a little bit. So literally, the playoff crunch is
- 1:48:42Speaker 7: the second and third week of January, you know, and
- 1:48:44Speaker 7: that's when you're you know, those games are and you
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: just kind of have to share.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: But I just want to how the NFL feels about
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: this n C double A playoff.
- 1:48:53Speaker 10: Yeah yeah, I mean when you focused for World Dominata,
- 1:48:57Speaker 10: I know that's that's the bottom line, right, But you know,
- 1:48:59Speaker 10: in some ways, I guess you could pitch that it's
- 1:49:01Speaker 10: good that it's you know, you're getting to know young
- 1:49:02Speaker 10: players that are going to be coming into the league
- 1:49:04Speaker 10: and it's a showcase.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: Well, historically the league is always given Saturday to college,
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: you know, only until the end of the season, when
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: colleges are done that they start playing on Saturday. But
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: I wonder if they might go back on that now.
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: But it's not like their expanded playoff is intruding on
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: the NFL.
- 1:49:25Speaker 21: Well, I mean they might see it as they might
- 1:49:27Speaker 21: see it as such though yeah, no, And I wonder
- 1:49:29Speaker 21: if some of these newer owners who are coming in
- 1:49:32Speaker 21: where the price tag is so much and they get
- 1:49:34Speaker 21: in and if Brian Rollop says, well, we don't play
- 1:49:36Speaker 21: on Saturdays, or who Dell says we don't play on Saturdays,
- 1:49:39Speaker 21: and that when it goes why don't we play on Saturdays, Well,
- 1:49:42Speaker 21: because we have We've never played on Saturdays.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: That's not a good enoffort because the league is making
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: so much money now on these standalones, these standalone games. Yeah,
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: more of those who have the more money.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: In practice, I'm not dismissing yet. And I know they
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: always claim that they breaking records. I don't buy it
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: most of the time. But my point is like in
- 1:50:02Speaker 6: the the playoffs sysnet they have now the NCAA goes
- 1:50:06Speaker 6: out of their way to not conflict.
- 1:50:10Speaker 9: At the end.
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: They don't want to because they know that they don't
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: also know they'll get buried.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: They'll get buried.
- 1:50:15Speaker 6: Like the Clemson Georgia game is not going to outdo
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: an NFL game if if if it's you know, running
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: running opposite head to head. So you know, they they
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: go on New Year's Eve when there's no NFL games,
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: you know, they go out of their way. It's that
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: that that one that that last the championship is that
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: Monday after the regular season when there's no Monday night game.
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: That's not an accident. And my guess is they'll do
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: the same thing with the early rounds of the playoffs.
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: They'll find, you know, creative ways to avoid.
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: How you're going to watch these games, like are they
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: going to be on streaming services that?
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:50:52Speaker 21: I think those are regular over the year of games
- 1:50:55Speaker 21: right now, but as you know, uh, and maybe it's
- 1:50:58Speaker 21: just for the National Championship game, ESPN they have it.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: They do twelve different broadcasts of that National Championship game.
- 1:51:04Speaker 23: Yeah, let's see will in Lancaster writes in maybe old
- 1:51:09Speaker 23: news but by now, but I'm glad people are calling
- 1:51:13Speaker 23: Elliott wolf out for his press conference.
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: I've been bullish on him and his approach, but his
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: answers reminded me of Bills towards the end, where examples
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: of needs being filled insulted our intelligence do better, Elliott,
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: So what did he say that was so insulting?
- 1:51:31Speaker 7: I think he clap back at Greg Bedard, Which of
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: those hasn't happened?
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: Extra points for me?
- 1:51:38Speaker 7: Yes, I just put it under the same banner as
- 1:51:41Speaker 7: I put mail. These are two young guys in new jobs.
- 1:51:44Speaker 7: I mean, I think Elliott when he got to the
- 1:51:45Speaker 7: podium was like, thanks for having me like you could.
- 1:51:47Speaker 7: They're not comfortable doing this yet, and it's a learning
- 1:51:49Speaker 7: experience and I'm sure good point Stacy's you know, up
- 1:51:52Speaker 7: through his eyeballs, trying to manage and make sure that
- 1:51:54Speaker 7: they understand that you have to choose your words very carefully.
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: And probably both of them would do wealth to be like,
- 1:52:01Speaker 7: let's we'll see right, That's what Bill used to do.
- 1:52:04Speaker 7: We'll see, you know, and you leave it to that.
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: You know, where's trouble really excelled is in those spots
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: where he clearly didn't want to answer a question, he
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: had an unbelievable ability.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: To wait you out.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: Yeah he would.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: He would do that what Mike just said, like we'll
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: see stare at.
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: It right and everybody would just be like waiting for
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: the rest, and he'd I'm perfectly content going fifteen seconds
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: without saying anything.
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't have another question.
- 1:52:35Speaker 7: Well, he already covered that.
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: He's like, you know, a lot of lawyers when they
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: have like their client on the stand, they coached them
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: only answer what you're asked and don't elaborate. Yep, you know.
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: And Bill is almost like you know, somebody on the
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: stand answering questions under oath.
- 1:52:53Speaker 21: He was masterful of just taking the last four or
- 1:52:55Speaker 21: five Like if your question was one of those long
- 1:52:58Speaker 21: thirty second jobs.
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: In the last five seconds, said.
- 1:53:02Speaker 21: Asked him about whether he likes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,
- 1:53:05Speaker 21: he was going to answer about the peanut butter and
- 1:53:06Speaker 21: jelly sandwiches and forget about everything else.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Unless it was Super Bowl, then all of a sudden
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: different Bill would open up Friday Bills. Bill's like a
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: new guy.
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: Here Friday football history questions that's somebody put a whole
- 1:53:18Speaker 7: book together, that's Fridays with Bill, which I just it
- 1:53:20Speaker 7: was just compiling the football in the press conferences. Yeah,
- 1:53:23Speaker 7: it's great, I mean, and it's nothing, you know, just
- 1:53:25Speaker 7: the press conferences of you know, the really in depth
- 1:53:28Speaker 7: football stuff. When he get on a tangent.
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: Someone was at the press conference.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: Because I put it right to sleep.
- 1:53:35Speaker 6: Do you remember that time we got the transcript and
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: there was like one of an answer on like gunners like.
- 1:53:41Speaker 23: This, People are like, oh my god, knowledge.
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: Really, you get a guy who's been a coach in
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: the NFL for fifty years, knows a little something about football, right,
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: he's won you know, six sixth.
- 1:53:55Speaker 21: Title, and and do you think he'd rather give you
- 1:53:59Speaker 21: fourth words on the gunner or four thousand words in
- 1:54:03Speaker 21: the fact that his offense can't get out of its
- 1:54:04Speaker 21: own way.
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: Who's winning the quarterback battle currently?
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: Right? Well, you welcome those questions exactly. And then it's
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: a filibuster, philipbuster. Let's see, this is Nayton Nate. He's
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: in Connecticut. I think the old line will get a
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: lot better a few weeks into the season. I think
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: Wallace and Robinson will move into the starting lineup and
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: drastically improve the old line I also disagree with Evan
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: on the final wide receiver a roster spots. Evan keeps
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: saying he doesn't think Booty will make the team because
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: there are multiple receivers on the team that can do
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: what he does, whereas Thornton is one of the only
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: receivers who can stretch the field. The problem I have
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: with that viewpoint is I would rather have the player
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: who is more productive, even if it offers some skilled
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: redundancy on the field.
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: Well, I think that that would be Thornton based on
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: training camp.
- 1:54:55Speaker 21: I was going to ask you, guys, is he if
- 1:54:58Speaker 21: you've done your projected T three yet?
- 1:55:01Speaker 3: But Fred I told me I need to Maybe.
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: They need to differentiate what Evan's done. You can show so.
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: Much of the same Thornton I would have on you, Mike, yeah, Paul,
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: I mean Fred, No, Booty is my guy out he'd
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: be Fred Yeah, I would.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: I would give Thornton.
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: I think there's a chance that both of them make it.
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: I think that there's a chance that born In because
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: of born On p up and they keep seven. Now,
- 1:55:28Speaker 6: seven to me is an insanely high number, but they don't.
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: Neither those you guys are gonna play specialty?
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: Are you gonna cut born in Thornton so you can
- 1:55:36Speaker 6: keep Christian Ellis or you know.
- 1:55:41Speaker 7: Now too many questions of the position, And I mean
- 1:55:43Speaker 7: our sellas dial. I think what I said to gardis like,
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: if you have seven, you have none. I just I
- 1:55:49Speaker 7: think that you need to have some you know, guys
- 1:55:52Speaker 7: to kind of work through. And like I said at
- 1:55:54Speaker 7: the top of the show, I think like Rager and
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: Thornton will kind of work on the outside. But yeah,
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: I mean other than one in three, that's not a
- 1:56:02Speaker 7: lot that really moves my needle. And I mean, I
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: know we can talk about one. That's probably a debate
- 1:56:06Speaker 7: for another day. But outside of those two guys, I mean,
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: there's nobody that I'm like, there's this is impossible. We
- 1:56:13Speaker 7: couldn't even go into the season without Taekwondon right like
- 1:56:16Speaker 7: one and three. After that, I don't know, it's a
- 1:56:18Speaker 7: whole lot of Yeah, we'll see Jeff and Canada.
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: What's more likely the record is nine and eight or
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: three and fourteen. Three and fourteen more likely than nine
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: and eight. Okay, that's a five, that's a five to
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: six question.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: It's probably a better topic enough.
- 1:56:37Speaker 7: These questions though that people come up with were like,
- 1:56:39Speaker 7: I'm going to trick you into saying the Patriots stink.
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I think the better chances of that.
- 1:56:47Speaker 7: What was it last year?
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: Four?
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: One four? Last year?
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: What's more likely TD passes Brissett with ten plus or
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: May with twenty plus?
- 1:56:57Speaker 7: A ten?
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: I mean, I'm going with with May twenty plus.
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: I'm gonna say resette because I'm not sure how many
- 1:57:06Speaker 6: games May is gonna.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: I couldn't agree with with Paul. What's more likely defense
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: finishes ranked top five or bottom ten?
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: Top five, top five?
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: Everybody see like, well, bottom ten. I don't think the
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: defense will stink.
- 1:57:21Speaker 21: Okay, all right, I could see that defense being I
- 1:57:23Speaker 21: could see that defense being ten.
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: What's more likely most touchdowns by unit ride receivers or
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: tight ends? Tight end? That's a good question.
- 1:57:34Speaker 7: I would say tight ends. Tight ends because I think
- 1:57:36Speaker 7: Austin Hooper is uh. I mean, he's been dinged up,
- 1:57:38Speaker 7: but I think he's I mean, to me, he kind
- 1:57:40Speaker 7: of looks and maybe I'm underselling Hunter Henry, but he
- 1:57:43Speaker 7: looks every bit as effective in this offense as Hunter
- 1:57:45Speaker 7: Henry has been I don't know. Maybe I'm taking the
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: cheese again on that second? Why tight end?
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: But why did you think last year was that? Did
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: you take it on Joey last year?
- 1:57:56Speaker 7: No, I'm taking it more on. I mean, I just
- 1:57:59Speaker 7: knew that was always going to be a tall, skinny
- 1:58:02Speaker 7: inside guy and.
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: Email funny, all right.
- 1:58:07Speaker 7: But Hooper's just he's been one of the more consistent guys.
- 1:58:10Speaker 7: I mean, he was up and down in the joint
- 1:58:11Speaker 7: joint practice, but he just seems to know where to
- 1:58:13Speaker 7: be and he seems to kind of connect with Brissette
- 1:58:15Speaker 7: in a way that I would almost say, I'm not
- 1:58:17Speaker 7: sure Hunter Henry does.
- 1:58:18Speaker 6: I feel like tight ends are generally red zone targets,
- 1:58:21Speaker 6: no question, So I'm.
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: Going to go tight.
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: Cody in Indiana makey making fun of Eldred. Oh yeahs,
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: He says, quick game for all of you. All you
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: have to do is fill in the following players. Green
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: is someone who should be making more money. Indigo is
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: someone born in February. Jar Truce is someone who plays
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: primarily on the defensive line and wears his socks too high.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: Orange is someone whose favorite fruit is orange, and black
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: is someone whose name rhymes with the name of a
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: country in eastern Africa. I'll take it.
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: Offline, Cody.
- 1:59:01Speaker 7: Would Chad single qualify for that one? Huh, it's Chad's
- 1:59:04Speaker 7: a country in Africa's Chad. Chad does rhyme with Chad doesn't.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: That's true? Yeah, but is it interesting? I don't know.
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: Jeff writes in quick Revenue Generating Idea, how about launching
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: a Patriots filtered? Uh? Filtered? He said, I think it's
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: been donefiltered, but podcast subscription. It could be a version
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: that filters out any audio featuring Evan, remove that unmistakable frequency,
- 1:59:30Speaker 2: and preserve the quality content for his fans on Catch
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: twenty two. I'd subscribe on day one. Seriously, take my money. Wow.
- 1:59:38Speaker 7: We all have our fans and our detractors.
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:59:41Speaker 7: We had one guy wrote in that said it has
- 1:59:44Speaker 7: we have to have Evan in here.
- 1:59:45Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:59:45Speaker 7: We have another guy's as you have to be.
- 1:59:46Speaker 3: Someone wrote that in today.
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: Yeah. He said he was worried about the new schedule
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: because we miss his viewpoint. Even if you disagree with it,
- 1:59:54Speaker 2: he thinks it's valuable.
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: And I agree my big call opinions.
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: No, I agree, So I don't know what we're going
- 1:59:59Speaker 2: to do.
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: Yere yes, you will.
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: I think, I think, oh my.
- 2:00:02Speaker 7: God, it's two o'clock.
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: Yeah, oh geez, it is too. Does Matt play you
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: guys off when it? You know, like, shouldn't it be?
- 2:00:10Speaker 7: He's sleeping Usually Friday ends it early because he's got
- 2:00:13Speaker 7: Matt's got a visitor right now, so he's preoccupied.
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: But listen, that's going to be it for this edition

- 2:00:30Speaker 2: hour and a half. Okay, game half hour.
- 2:00:33Speaker 6: We have to go a half an hour ahead of
- 2:00:35Speaker 6: game time during pre season because we have to switch
