- 0:00What's up y'all? You're listening to the Extra
- 0:02Point College Football Podcast. I'm your host Jacob Carr and
- 0:05joined as always by my Co host Daniel Hammock.
- 0:08On today's episode we're talking NFL draft, the one crossover
- 0:14event between the NFL and college football.
- 0:17We will do a live mock draft alternating picks.
- 0:21We will mention any players that didn't get picked for days two
- 0:24and three. We will talk about who are some
- 0:26late bloomers versus who heeked in college football.
- 0:30We'll talk that at the end as well.
- 0:32Daniel, how you doing? You're ready to dive out?
- 0:34No, this is this is your wheelhouse.
- 0:36This is probably one of your favorite episodes that we we get
- 0:38to do. Yeah, I love I love this one.
- 0:40Like you said, it's the crossover between college
- 0:42football and the NFL. It's kind of fun because you get
- 0:45to, you know, obviously see all the NFL draft coverage, but one
- 0:49of the best parts of the coverage is that they're showing
- 0:51highlights of college football. So it's great, you know, love
- 0:55affair between the two. And it's it's really where I
- 0:58first understood that like what you may think about a player
- 1:01from college may not be what these NFL guys are thinking.
- 1:04And so it's it's always been fascinating.
- 1:06So excited to do our annual mock draft.
- 1:09I have a question, Daniel. What What channel?
- 1:13When we when the draft comes on Thursday night, what channel are
- 1:16you going to have the TV on while you're watching the draft?
- 1:19This is very tough. I will tell you the coverage I
- 1:22like the most is NFL Network. Daniel Jeremiah is the best in
- 1:25the business, bar none. I think Rich Eisen is going to
- 1:28be the guy throwing it around again.
- 1:30One of the greats, one of the classics.
- 1:32Would love to just listen to them the whole time.
- 1:34I don't know if they own the rights to the chime.
- 1:37The chime is important to me of the NFL draft chimes for the
- 1:40selection. For some reason.
- 1:42I think that last year when I was listening to it, they did
- 1:44not do the chime. Meanwhile ESPN does the chime.
- 1:49So I I will watch usually ESPN they have 3 broadcasts of or not
- 1:54yet they're 30 total broadcast. Get NFL Network, you got regular
- 1:58ESPN with Mel Kiper and then you got the Channel 2 like the ABC
- 2:03one, which is like the college game day crew.
- 2:05If I'm forced to listen to the ESPN one, I'll listen to the
- 2:08college game day crew because they're going to talk more about
- 2:10the college player, which I appreciate.
- 2:12I don't have to listen to Mel Kiper crash out, but once it
- 2:16gets to like late, late in the draft, it doesn't matter because
- 2:20they're going to put everybody on the same stage.
- 2:22Daniel Jeremiah is the best one to listen to though my personal.
- 2:25Opinion. I agree.
- 2:26OK, I don't. Is Rich Eisen going to be on
- 2:29ESPN now since his show is like or is he saw on NFL Network?
- 2:33NFL Network was purchased by ESPN, so there's a lot.
- 2:36Of that's right. That's right.
- 2:38But I don't know. Maybe they'll have the chime
- 2:40this. Year over last, That's what I'm
- 2:42hoping. Last year they did not have the
- 2:44official rights yet. If they are officially on, if
- 2:49they've got the chime that's I'm going to be wall to walls
- 2:53watching the NFL Network the whole time, that's easy because
- 2:56Rich Eisen is my favorite as far as that goes and Daniel Jeremiah
- 2:59is my favorite actual analyst, so.
- 3:02Same. You and I are on the same page.
- 3:04Yeah. NFL Network, I had to ask you
- 3:06that. This was an important question.
- 3:07For me, this isn't ESPN hate. You know, there's times where I
- 3:11do hate ESPN, but it's more just like I just prefer the best
- 3:15coverage. And then yeah, like the whole
- 3:17Shadur crash out that Mel Mel had last year was kind of off
- 3:21putting to a lot of people so. Well, unfortunately it's not his
- 3:24only bad take. So you know, I'm very whatever,
- 3:27like I'll take Desmond Howard over milk hyper.
- 3:29You know what I mean? Like that's that's saying
- 3:31something for what it's worth by saying that's saying something
- 3:35hand up. Like it stinks when you're like
- 3:37this is the only I'm not going to crap on milk hyper anyway.
- 3:40I'm sure he's a nice guy, but will not be choosing him for my
- 3:44viewing interview. I miss Todd Mcshay.
- 3:46For what it's worth. The ESPN coverage was better
- 3:49with Todd Mcshay. He's no.
- 3:50Longer there, so you. Like the new guys, Jordan Reed.
- 3:54And what's the other guy, draft expert Miller, whatever his name
- 3:58is, and Miller, Matt Miller. I like Matt Miller and I like
- 4:01Jordan Reed, but they're not going to get any play until like
- 4:05day three, maybe a little bit of day 2.
- 4:09You're going to get Lewis Riddick.
- 4:10You're going to get Mel Kiper. I do like.
- 4:13Gates I like Lewis. Riddick I like Phil Gates.
- 4:16I wish Phil Gates would get his haircut back again.
- 4:20That would be great. And then, yeah.
- 4:23Talking talking haircuts here on the.
- 4:25Yeah, it's important, you know you're in the uniforms.
- 4:28I'm into the haircut when he I'm working on.
- 4:31It is important. He, you know, at that point I
- 4:34was like, all right, I'm going to take a step back and listen
- 4:37to you a little bit so. It's hilarious.
- 4:40All right, Daniel, we've got we've got I've got our, our, our
- 4:44mock draft here pulled up. I'll give you your pick.
- 4:47Would you like? I know what you're going to say.
- 4:49I think you want odd or even numbers.
- 4:53You think I'm going to say that one?
- 4:54Odd. So don't have to pick for the
- 4:56Saints. What's funny is I thought you
- 4:58were going to say Even so that you could pick for the Saints,
- 5:00make a bad pick. That's actually what I want to
- 5:03do. You do know me, Jacob.
- 5:05No, I just want to ensure that the Saints don't draft a Georgia
- 5:07player so that I can, you know, live with myself.
- 5:10Yeah. I'll take the evens.
- 5:11If that's if I'm if I've got the option, I'll take the evens.
- 5:15You will always get the option for our NFL draft episode.
- 5:18This is I'm like this, this is your baby.
- 5:20So yes, all right, so first pick, look, we're not going to
- 5:23go hot take. Let me set this up a little bit.
- 5:27This is some college experts take on the NFL draft of we we
- 5:31got to watch these players for the last three to eight years in
- 5:35college. And so therefore we are going to
- 5:38you know, this is what we would do based on the team needs.
- 5:42So, for example, we might think more highly of a linebacker.
- 5:48You know, that might be, according to draft experts, 6th
- 5:51on the board. But we're like, hey, don't
- 5:53overthink this. They played linebacker for
- 5:55Alabama. We might have them second on the
- 5:57board. Exactly.
- 6:00So that that's kind of the we're we're we're not trying to do hot
- 6:02take. Like I mean, for example, I'm
- 6:04I'm taking Mendoza number one overall, like because we're also
- 6:06going to try to be accurate here of like that that's going to
- 6:09happen. So I'm not going to have some
- 6:10hot take of well, here's this should do.
- 6:12They're taking Mendoza. That's we're going to start
- 6:14there. But these are two college
- 6:16experts take on the NFL draft. So like, if we know The Jets are
- 6:21targeting, you know, a wide receiver, then we might go and
- 6:25say, OK, well, who do we think is the best wide receiver?
- 6:27So this shouldn't be too different, but has tended to
- 6:31have happened while we do. This is like, for example, we
- 6:34were never taking Jack Wilson number two overall.
- 6:36We thought that was insane. Like.
- 6:38Exactly. Or like turn on the tape and
- 6:41look for The Jets, you know? Because of it, they did it and
- 6:44look where they are. Come on.
- 6:47I mean, this is the whole Mitch Trubisky over to Shawn Watson
- 6:49pre legal issues. Yeah, which what you know, it's
- 6:53like, hey, watch the shot would look what he did anyway.
- 6:58Sometimes we we talk about this countless times.
- 7:00Sometimes NFLGMS overthink the room to try to look like they
- 7:04know what they're doing and look fancy and like 9 times out of 10
- 7:07it bites him in the butt. So we're not going to overthink
- 7:10the room on this percent. OK, number one overall Raiders,
- 7:15they're drafting a quarterback even though they've got all who
- 7:19did his trade for. Kirk O'chain.
- 7:22Kirk. OK, I was.
- 7:23I was like, wait, was it Kirk? I was like, wasn't he just
- 7:25there? Just no.
- 7:26That was Kirk. Yeah.
- 7:28I was mixing him and what's his face up?
- 7:32Christian White quarterbacks, dude.
- 7:36Who was who was the quarterback man?
- 7:39Derek Carr. Oh.
- 7:40I was like, no, I was like Kirk. I was like, Kirk already played
- 7:43for the Raiders, and that was Derek Carr.
- 7:45Yeah, Kirk O'chain's. Anyway, they're drafting
- 7:47Mendoza. It's not Waste time.
- 7:49Mendoza to the Raiders. Daniel, you got the.
- 7:51Jets, I think that's a excellent pick.
- 7:53I'm gonna actually have The Jets for both of their picks.
- 7:55There's several. I think there's four teams that
- 7:57have two picks in the first round.
- 8:00Must be nice. Jets are one of those.
- 8:02Yeah, well, and I don't know what's going to happen with
- 8:06James Pierce legal situation for the Falcons.
- 8:08I'm wearing my Falcon shirt. If he does end up being able to
- 8:11stay on the team and just get suspended, then I think the
- 8:14Falcons still made a good trade. He's a terrible person,
- 8:16apparently. But the, you know, they got
- 8:19James Pierce, who did great, you know, had, you know, 10 1/2
- 8:23sacks last year, and Xavier Watts.
- 8:25LA ends up picking for Atlanta in this draft anyways.
- 8:28Nonetheless, let's jump in. Jets at 2.
- 8:32Top needs obviously always quarterback, but Fernando's
- 8:36gone. So you don't reach for a guy
- 8:38here, maybe wide receiver, edge rusher.
- 8:41All the chatter has been to kind of like get them to shade away
- 8:46from David Bailey at Texas Tech. I think that's a smokescreen.
- 8:50I think they're going to take David Bailey.
- 8:53I think they're open to a trade back to get more picks because
- 8:56they need have a lot of needs. But if they stick, which we're
- 8:59not doing trades here, I think they take David Bailey edge,
- 9:02Texas Tech, David. Bailey Edge, Texas Tech OK,
- 9:08there we go. Edge All right, I got the
- 9:12Cardinals again. I think this is simple and I'll
- 9:16also share, Daniel, my draft strategy a little bit of, you
- 9:19know, my take on the draft, too. I'm also position.
- 9:24I'm not taking a running back in the top five.
- 9:25I don't care how good you think Jeremiah Love is, it's not
- 9:28happening. I watched a great video to back
- 9:31up. I know it's not happening for
- 9:33me. How's that?
- 9:35He's the, he's the only one that's going to get drafted, but
- 9:37yeah. Yeah, I mean, he's the only one
- 9:40that could, you know what I mean?
- 9:41Like, it's like Bijan a few years ago, which I've told you,
- 9:43I stand corrected on to a point. I watched a great video.
- 9:46I'll have to send you Daniel backing up what I think about
- 9:49it, which is anyway, it's about positional value.
- 9:52All that being said, you need a tackle.
- 9:56Francis Magoga is just sitting here in the top three.
- 9:59I'm drafting Francis Magoga from from Miami as a tackle for the
- 10:03Cardinals. It's a great pick.
- 10:05Yeah, they're they have had a lot of smoke recently about
- 10:08Jeremiah Love and I'm pretty sure they are just doing the
- 10:12whole hey, we're going to take him.
- 10:15Y'all better trade up and get him.
- 10:16I think that's what you're really doing.
- 10:17So good call there. If they stick, I do think they
- 10:20like tackle. If I'm the Titans, I am not
- 10:23walking. I'm running the card to the
- 10:26commissioner's desk and getting Arvel Reese, edge from Ohio
- 10:30State, there's a lot of talk that he could be the second
- 10:32overall to The Jets. He could go third overall to the
- 10:35Cardinals. He's one of those kinds of
- 10:37players. Titans top need is all of the
- 10:40defense, but especially the edge.
- 10:42Arvel Reese is one of those players.
- 10:44High motor, great size. I think that that's who they
- 10:48would go for well. If I'm the Giants, I'm then
- 10:50running to the podium whatever and drafting Sonny Styles, who I
- 10:54think is the best linebacker in the class.
- 10:56He's a top five overall player. Him and our Val Reese both I
- 10:59would think all of our Reese ever David Bailey personally,
- 11:01but OK, I get the stuff as a prospect there, but from the
- 11:05Giants taking Sonny Styles in the top five to the Giants I.
- 11:09Think that, yeah. You know, obviously they got
- 11:12scataboo last year. There's still been some talk
- 11:14that they're interested. One of the teams in love, but
- 11:18the fact that he didn't go there would intrigue me.
- 11:21If I'm the Browns, they are in need of any great player that
- 11:25they can get their hands on. But wide receiver is actually
- 11:28one of their top needs. And they've got a guy sitting
- 11:30right there in Carnell Tate out of Ohio State.
- 11:33So we're going three straight Buckeyes in this draft.
- 11:36He's the number one wide receiver, but he's also he's
- 11:39just a complete player you think about.
- 11:41It's also nice little grab for your hometown.
- 11:43So you know the Cleveland fan base, a lot of those people are
- 11:46Ohio State fans as well. So give me Carnell Tate to the
- 11:50Browns at six overall, all right?
- 11:52You've got said the skins the Washington football team here at
- 11:557 which I grew up a Cowboys fan, so I still not a not a
- 12:00Washington fan necessarily, but I'm not going to screw them
- 12:03here. They need some wide receiver
- 12:05help. I think you're you're they're
- 12:07taking one of these two wide receivers.
- 12:08Cardinal Tate, you took, if I'm Washington taking Mikhail Lemon,
- 12:12USC, I think a separated by receiver class and that I think
- 12:16you've got like 2 that are going to go in the top ten and maybe
- 12:19wait a little bit. Like I think there's a clear one
- 12:21and two in this class and that gap.
- 12:24And so I think Cardinal Tate and Mikhail Lemon are your two like
- 12:27no doubt NFL starting, you know, wide receiver, 1 studs and then
- 12:31a gap after that. So I'm going ahead and sharing
- 12:35up that I'm getting the second one there at #7 for the
- 12:38Commanders. Yeah, there's.
- 12:39Been a lot of smoke recently about Jordan Tyson wide receiver
- 12:42Arizona State. I like lemon like you ahead of
- 12:45him, but there's it's all over the place.
- 12:47This is definitely smokescreen season.
- 12:50Everybody's trying to play their hand.
- 12:52It's amazing that Jeremiah Love has made it this far.
- 12:55I definitely blame you Jacob for him dropping.
- 12:58I've been told that his floor is getting picked 7th overall.
- 13:02I'm drafting for my hated rival the Saints, AKA the Ain't.
- 13:07But there's nothing but great players here, a great fit.
- 13:11I think they have a big need at cornerback and my Mansour
- 13:14Delaine out of LSU, they love taking their LSU guys at in New
- 13:18Orleans. I'm going to just stick with
- 13:20that fit. I like that fit a lot.
- 13:22I would be tempted to take Jeremiah Love right here if I am
- 13:26New Orleans, just with an aging, you know, Alvin Kamara and you
- 13:30know, they've they've got some other guys that are just just
- 13:34dudes that nobody's nobody's elite.
- 13:35This is where you would go shopping for one of those guys.
- 13:38But I'm sticking with Delane at cornerback.
- 13:40I think feels a need and it's a great player available.
- 13:43All right, so. You're going sword Delane, so
- 13:45look what? Just fell into the chiefs lap OK
- 13:47at at 9 are you talking? About Jeremiah Love.
- 13:51You're not going to give it to him.
- 13:52I know you're not. I'm not.
- 13:54It's a top ten pick. Why would you?
- 13:55Why would you waste on a running back, especially when you need
- 13:58an edge player and Reuben Bain sitting here at #9 So I'm
- 14:01running to the table and drafting Reuben Bain out of
- 14:03Miami. I think he is the best.
- 14:05This is one of those out think the room things is you see how
- 14:08David Bailey measures, You see how Arlo Reese measures.
- 14:10And I know there's something to that of you can play smaller in
- 14:14college. You don't play as good as
- 14:15competition. You've got to have a minimum
- 14:16body size in the NFLI. Get all of that.
- 14:19But to me there's a difference in, for example, Trayvon Walker.
- 14:22Trayvon Walker did not explode stat wise at Georgia, but the
- 14:26role he played, he played very well and still popped on tape
- 14:29and then he measured amazing. That to me would be like an
- 14:32Arvel Reese of like played his role extremely well and measured
- 14:36amazing. Ruben Bayne is just hey, turn on
- 14:39the tape and don't ever think this.
- 14:40I know he doesn't measure as well as David Bailey, but I
- 14:43mean, man, well, look what he did even in the playoff run
- 14:47against the best teams he played.
- 14:48Look at how he performed against the best teams.
- 14:51He blew up teams offensive plans.
- 14:54He made offensive play callers call around him.
- 14:57I'm not even kidding. I'm running the table from the
- 14:59Chiefs. You don't draft a running back
- 15:01on Reuben Bay and sitting here and you need that help.
- 15:02So give me, give me Reuben Bay from Miami.
- 15:05And look at this now, the Giants have two top 10 picks and look
- 15:08what fell to #10 well. Here's the thing, Jeremiah Love
- 15:12is such a he. He's such a good player.
- 15:15He is 1. Like normally the way the draft
- 15:18boards work, he's one of these guys that's like written in
- 15:21towards the top, but positional value like you were talking
- 15:23about Jacob drops him a little bit, but there is a Cliff that
- 15:27you fall off of as far as running backs go for the rest of
- 15:31this, you know, So I think teams are trading up to get him.
- 15:34If this was to get to where he's dropping, I don't think he is
- 15:38making it out of the top ten. If this is the situation that
- 15:40happens and I am New York and I have Kim Scataboo, I am still
- 15:45drafting Jeremiah Love at #10 overall Scataboo coming off that
- 15:49obviously gruesome injury, lower extremity injury, they'd go
- 15:53ahead and take him. And then when Scataboo comes
- 15:55back, it doesn't hurt to have multiple playmakers in the
- 15:58backfield, especially with Jeremiah Love's ability to catch
- 16:03the ball out of the backfield. Now you've got 2 receiving
- 16:05backs. It's going to help that offense
- 16:07even more so. So yeah, Jeremiah Love, 10 to
- 16:10the Giants. Miami going through a little bit
- 16:15of a rebuild and reset. What they're going to need
- 16:17though, is they let to a walk because they're going to need
- 16:20some offensive line help for whatever is sitting there at
- 16:24quarterback. I'm going who I think is the
- 16:26second best offensive line prospect in this draft.
- 16:29Give me Monroe Freeling, Georgia from the Dolphins taking the
- 16:32second best tackle in the draft and Monroe Freeling.
- 16:34That's what I'm taking. It's a.
- 16:35Good pick I think he's just going to go in the top top 20.
- 16:38There's I feel that a lot more teams because he can actually
- 16:42project as a left tackle. Most of the tackles in the first
- 16:45round are actually like. I think the ceilings are right
- 16:47tackle so he's someone who could eventually flip.
- 16:50Well, man, the Cowboys get to be flashy here.
- 16:55They could. They're.
- 16:56Wishing they could have drafted another running back in the
- 16:58first round. They are dude, if Jeremiah love
- 17:01drop, they would do it. I do like 2 picks here for them.
- 17:05They're they have a need at corner.
- 17:08Jermont McCoy is is a really great you know, but there's a
- 17:12there is currently some questions or in circles about
- 17:16his injury history and like kind of where he's at at this moment.
- 17:20With that being said, I'm taking the no brainer.
- 17:23You need the slam dunk for the first round pit and it is still
- 17:26a need safety. Caleb Downs best player
- 17:29available on the board. Don't overthink it.
- 17:32Caleb Downs stud. He's going to look great with
- 17:35the star on the helmet. See that he does not need to be
- 17:39taken outside of the top ten. He's a top five prospect in this
- 17:42draft in my opinion. That's where I'd have gone if I
- 17:44was the Giants at 10. But you know, I guess people
- 17:48have to have their running back. Well, safety, safety is one of
- 17:52those positional values that does drop.
- 17:54So you've got like Hamilton was Kyle Hamilton was the guy that
- 17:57dropped Derwin James got picked late in the first.
- 18:00So definitely these guys that are great, they still get picked
- 18:03later. This is right at the good spot
- 18:05for him. Where'd Starks get drafted?
- 18:07Was he in the first round? Yeah, he was like second
- 18:11overall, I think. So, I mean, he was the best
- 18:13safety of that draft and he was in the 20s, so that makes sense.
- 18:16OK, Rams, Is Nikua going to be suspended receiver help?
- 18:22Yeah, I don't know, backward. Tackle.
- 18:25Think it. You know what?
- 18:26You know, you got an aging Matthew Stafford.
- 18:28Let's go ahead and get some more offensive line help, Sir.
- 18:31Fano, is it? Fano?
- 18:32Fano, Utah. Fano.
- 18:36There you go, pitcher. Fano, Utah to the Rams at 13.
- 18:39Awesome. All right, well, here we are.
- 18:42Baltimore, the new look Baltimore with no John Harbaugh
- 18:46at the helm. Interesting to see kind of where
- 18:48they're going to be defensive tackle at the top of their
- 18:51lists. They also tried, you know,
- 18:53losing out some of their offensive lineman could go
- 18:56interior there. I think that's more of a second
- 18:58round grab. I like I like the Jermont McCoy
- 19:02fit right here. Corner is one of their needs.
- 19:05And I think that best player available what you know,
- 19:09Baltimore has become famous for. So Jermont McCoy, Tennessee
- 19:12cornerback to Baltimore. Does not hurt you to take best
- 19:17player available. Never, I don't think, OK, the
- 19:20Buccaneers at 15. Ed is a need.
- 19:24Linebackers in need. This might seem like a reach
- 19:27here, Daniel, but I think I'm going to go with another Miami
- 19:32edge player. I think I'm going to go mezzador
- 19:35here for the Bucks. Miami had an unbelievable tandem
- 19:40at edge this past season. Both I think are going to be
- 19:43taking the first round and in this case in our draft, the top
- 19:4615. So give me a key mezidorite in
- 19:48Miami to the Bucks here at 15. I love.
- 19:50It yeah, here we come to The Jets at 16 overall.
- 19:54They're going to, you know, they pick David Bailey early.
- 19:57They still have a need at wide receiver.
- 19:59There's a glaring need at quarterback.
- 20:00Excuse me, do you take Ty Simpson this early?
- 20:03He's this my second ranked quarterback.
- 20:04I think that somebody's going to trade back in and try to get
- 20:07him. I was listening to somebody say
- 20:09that. The only the best thing you can
- 20:12do if you don't have a slam dunk at quarterback is just keep
- 20:15drafting the best players so that when you do get your
- 20:18quarterback, the groundwork is laid.
- 20:20And I think that's what they're going to do right here with
- 20:22Jordan Tyson, wide receiver out of Arizona State, 16 overall, 27
- 20:27draft has a lot of good players and there's expect to be a
- 20:30handful of good quarterbacks. I think The Jets might still
- 20:33take a guy a little bit later just to kind of see, but next
- 20:37season maybe when they draft their quarterback and hopefully
- 20:39that time they've got some guys that can help around him.
- 20:43All right. If I'm, if I'm Dan Camp, one of
- 20:45the Lions, you know, I'm taking a alignment of some sort here at
- 20:5017. Give me, you know, I'm not going
- 20:53to pretend I know how to say his name.
- 20:55Offensive guard out of Penn State?
- 20:57Yeah. That's a great one.
- 20:59I have no idea how to say his name.
- 21:00He's great. Aleva.
- 21:01IVA. I own Aleva.
- 21:04Yeah. Ione.
- 21:06Yeah, great pick. I own.
- 21:07A. There you go, Totally.
- 21:08Say his name all the great. Player big dude.
- 21:12You know, I think I'd overshadowed by a obviously a
- 21:16chaotic Penn State season this year, but really good prospect
- 21:20and Dane Campbell gets an offensive guard and he's hitting
- 21:23his head up against the wall. Fired up about it.
- 21:24So yeah. Well, all right.
- 21:26Well, then we're right. Moving right along.
- 21:28We got Minnesota Vikings 18 overall.
- 21:30Their top need is safety. Good for them.
- 21:33One of the best players available is a safety.
- 21:35So second safety is coming off the board here.
- 21:38Dylan, the Inaman safety out of Oregon.
- 21:41So I think he comes off here at 18.
- 21:43I think it's a good fit with positional need as well as
- 21:48overall value. I love.
- 21:49It all right, I'm struggling here, Daniel with the Panthers
- 21:52because I think you're a little bit reaching for a tackle at
- 21:57this point as far as best players available safety you
- 22:00just took I wouldn't take McNeil Warren out of Toledo here.
- 22:06Defensive tackle. It's kind of like everything
- 22:08you're kind of reaching for but tight ends in need.
- 22:10You got Kenyan Sadiq. But I'm debating here, Daniel.
- 22:15You know I'm going to hear from the Panthers.
- 22:17Let's give Bryce Young another weapon.
- 22:19Let's go Omar Cooper, junior out of Indiana, a wide receiver to
- 22:23the Panthers. That's what I think, given what
- 22:26we have available. I think that's my best value
- 22:28pick as far as me and who's available, yeah.
- 22:32This is a good one. That's a good one.
- 22:34Now we're here with Dallas Cowboys second pick in the
- 22:38draft. They got their safety with Caleb
- 22:42Downs on that 12th overall pick. Now they're picking at 20.
- 22:45Still have needs at linebacker, corner edge, offensive tackle.
- 22:50You just kind of look around, you've got Keldrick Falk out of
- 22:53Auburn at Edge, He's hanging out right there.
- 22:56You've got Kaden Proctor, offensive tackle, Alabama, Blake
- 23:00Miller, offensive tackle at Clemson.
- 23:03Just some guys that I think could play right tackle right
- 23:07away. Basically, I if if I'm Dallas,
- 23:11I'm trying to make sure I can stay good on the offensive line.
- 23:15They've had some guys retire in recent years.
- 23:17I think Kaden Proctor is probably the next best thing at
- 23:22getting him in that right tackle.
- 23:23He could kick into guard if that ends up working better for him,
- 23:26but I think he's a good prospect.
- 23:28So give me Kaden Proctor, 20th overall to the Dallas Cowboys.
- 23:32Kaden Proctor So this is one of those prospects.
- 23:35Daniel again is Proctor. I was very disappointed in the
- 23:42hype. Yeah, coming out of high scores
- 23:43recruit in the level of effort I received from him on the field
- 23:48was always confusing. Like, I know the talents there,
- 23:50maybe someone can unlock it, but to play at a place like Alabama
- 23:53and not give effort to me is a red flag.
- 23:56But again, position isn't one of those position of value.
- 23:59He hits all the measurables if someone can unlock it.
- 24:02You know, I'm not necessarily trusting Dowse's culture by any
- 24:06means. But that's one of those, you
- 24:09know, every, every GM is saying, but I can get it out of them.
- 24:13You know, like you're they're at least believing.
- 24:15Exactly. So you get picked there.
- 24:17OK. Is this a place, is the Steelers
- 24:19a place where you find where you get a second quarterback?
- 24:22I think that's the position of value.
- 24:24You get a fifth year. Where you start asking the.
- 24:28Questions. Yeah, this is where you start
- 24:30asking the question. And I'm going to say if you're
- 24:31the Steelers and you've you've hit reset, you have a first
- 24:36round pick and the second best quarterback in this draft is
- 24:39available and you hope you're not here again because the
- 24:41stewards are consistently 9 and seven.
- 24:44Exactly. I think they do it.
- 24:47I think they quote UN quote reach.
- 24:49I do think Ty Simpson's the second best quarterback in the
- 24:51draft. I wonder where he would have
- 24:53been drafted if you had to stop the season after the Georgia
- 24:55game or even a little bit after that.
- 24:58He gets hurt at the end of the season.
- 24:59It ends poorly going through. November so.
- 25:04So yeah, I don't think it's that big of a reach, but I can see
- 25:07everyone's big board. Yeah, give me Ty Simpson to the
- 25:09Steelers. And I mean, look, with
- 25:11quarterbacks, you try to draft your franchise guy in the first
- 25:14round and if not, you try again. You have a first round pick, the
- 25:18second best quarterback on the board is available.
- 25:20I think you take him because you have five years of control for
- 25:23cheap and if it works out, great.
- 25:25If it doesn't, you try again here in a couple of years and no
- 25:27harm done. Exactly.
- 25:29All right. Well, then here we are with the
- 25:31Chargers. Jim Harbaugh, you know, he's got
- 25:36interior offensive line needs. He's got into your defensive
- 25:39line needs edge rusher, really anything on defense.
- 25:44You've got Kate and McDonald looking at you right there.
- 25:46Defensive tackle best best tackle defensive tackle
- 25:49available. But he's from Ohio State.
- 25:51You're not going to draft him. You're a Michigan man.
- 25:53So give me Keldrick Faulk edge out of Auburn.
- 25:56I think this is a great spot for him to go anything in the 20s.
- 26:01I think he's a great value pick. I think he could add a lot to a
- 26:05team right here. Are you getting?
- 26:06Falk out of Auburn. All right, let's see here.
- 26:11I was looking at a prospect here, OK, because the Eagles, I
- 26:14mean, like the articles come out about, you know, you know, how
- 26:18are things really going with Jalen Hurts?
- 26:19The Eagles are like, they're great.
- 26:21We don't know what you're talking about.
- 26:23It's like, OK, then they're going to draft Kenyan Sadiq tied
- 26:27in at 23. Let's give another weapon.
- 26:29If we believe in jail and Hurts, I mean, by God, we're going to
- 26:31run the ball. So let's get it tied in in here
- 26:33to run some 13 personnel. You're going to be Sadiq out of
- 26:36Oregon to the Eagles here at 23 all.
- 26:38Right. Well, now we're here with the
- 26:40Cleveland Browns at 24 overall. This is their second pick of the
- 26:45first round. Of course, they got Carnell Tate
- 26:47to start with. At this point you're just taking
- 26:50value and I think there's no better value then getting a
- 26:54starter at this point. I think Blake Miller, offensive
- 26:59tackle at Clemson, four year starter, I think he is in plug
- 27:02and play at right tackle if he needs to be and I think he needs
- 27:06to be in Cleveland. So they're looking for starters.
- 27:08I think they get one with Carnell Tate at wide receiver
- 27:11and I think they get one with Blake Miller.
- 27:14You got to surround the the team with talent and I think this is
- 27:18exactly what they do here. Boom, Blake Miller out of
- 27:22Clemson. All right, the Bears make the
- 27:24playoffs, so now they got a bottom draft pick.
- 27:29Need some help on the defensive line, both on the interior and
- 27:32the edge safety need, man. I mean, you could go.
- 27:37I mean, you kind of need center help.
- 27:41Ah, looking at the board here, man.
- 27:43Let's go. Caden McDonald, Ohio State.
- 27:46He's the best interior defensive prospect here in the draft. 3
- 27:50Ohio State players in the first round so far are 444 Ohio State
- 27:54players. Yeah, this is a big maybe.
- 27:56Ohio State should win the title this year.
- 28:01Actually, no, that's five. No, I.
- 28:03Want to say I was like 3 straight?
- 28:05And then Caleb Downs and then. Yeah.
- 28:08No Kate McDonald, that's their. Fifth one.
- 28:11Kate McDonald, Ohio State to the Bears.
- 28:13All right, this. Is where you start to get about
- 28:16preference about, you know, these teams are, I think they
- 28:19can, they can go outside of positional need if they need to.
- 28:23You're at the end of your end of the first round is about getting
- 28:28guys that you want good control over for the next 5 years.
- 28:31You know, you'll see trades into the first round from the top of
- 28:35the second round because you get that fifth year control.
- 28:37But the Buffalo Bills at 26th overall, they've got a few
- 28:42needs. They always need an explosive
- 28:44wide receiver. I don't know, Casey.
- 28:46Casey Concepcion right here makes some sense to me.
- 28:50I also really like getting linebacker.
- 28:54CJ Allen from Georgia, think right here is a good spot.
- 28:59They have a need at linebacker. He didn't test super well, which
- 29:03I think is why he's kind of dropping to the late first
- 29:05round, early second round grade for a lot of people.
- 29:10Yeah, I mean, turn on the tape. This dude is special captain of
- 29:14the defense. You're not going to regret
- 29:15taking him and having him under control for five years.
- 29:19I. Just I was, I was, I wasn't
- 29:21going to do this on purpose, but I was looking at what was left.
- 29:24And I do have, as a fan of CJ Allen, I do have my dream spot
- 29:29for him. If he starts dropping in the
- 29:31draft, which it looks like he's going to go late first round at
- 29:33this point. Dude, him on him on the Texans
- 29:36would be sick. Yeah.
- 29:38Yeah. Like him and Will Anderson in
- 29:40the same defense and the same defense that has Stingley and
- 29:44Kamari Lassiter at the corner. They're they're just troubling
- 29:47tripling down, but they make a Ryan.
- 29:49They make a Ryan's was coached by, you know, Kirby Smart, So
- 29:52they all, you know, know similar things.
- 29:55So that's a spot right there, man.
- 29:57That would be a good spot, yeah. CJ Allen to Buffalo.
- 30:00All right, that puts us at the 49ers.
- 30:03I think they could go two different ways here.
- 30:05Do I go tackle with Caleb Lomu out of Utah?
- 30:09Do I go wide receiver? She could go a few ways here.
- 30:11And what do you think, Daniel? I think they're going tackler,
- 30:14wide receiver, given who? Given it's.
- 30:16Just that I mean, personally I value, I think there's more.
- 30:21I think there's only, I think there's a deeper wide receivers
- 30:25in this draft. I think there's only like 6-6 or
- 30:28seven offensive tackles that are worth their.
- 30:30Salt. That's fair.
- 30:31So. That's usually how I would grade
- 30:34it. But if you're asking me straight
- 30:36up, Casey Conception versus Cale Lomu, I like conception more.
- 30:39He's more, yeah, sexier pick, but I think the better pick
- 30:43would probably be Lomu. I'm.
- 30:44Going Lomu, Utah, Yeah, I'm like, I did it.
- 30:46I did it on my side. You made a good point about the,
- 30:49you know, 6 versus several yeah. Caleb Lobo, Utah to the 49ers at
- 30:53pick 27. Well.
- 30:54Here at pick 28, I'm already sad because I want CJ Allen, just
- 30:58like you mentioned they would be loving him here.
- 31:00They could use any interior offensive lineman, defensive
- 31:04lineman. You know, there's there's a lot
- 31:06of needs in in Houston. There's talk to they're even,
- 31:10you know, interested in quarterback going forward,
- 31:12trying to figure figure everything out.
- 31:14But while we're here, I like Peter Woods out of Clemson at
- 31:17this spot as you get towards the end of the first round.
- 31:20So just give me Peter Woods. We'll take him Houston Texans
- 31:24and I think that'll be a good spot all.
- 31:26Right, Daniel, I'm going to go that the Chiefs and get my homes
- 31:32back from injury and say, hey man, we got you a special gift
- 31:36and it's Casey Concepcion out of Texas A&M.
- 31:40Enjoy. And they draft him at #29
- 31:42overall, from Texas A&M to the Chiefs, I love.
- 31:46It all right, well, right here at the end.
- 31:49So Miami Dolphins with their second pick of the draft, they
- 31:53had #11 overall where you had them taking Monroe Freeling, the
- 31:58offensive tackle. So right here, they're probably
- 32:01upset they just missed out on KCI.
- 32:05Think you've got a couple of different ways they can go.
- 32:08I like Avian Terrell out of Clemson at corner.
- 32:14So that's one of their biggest needs.
- 32:15So I'll go Avian Terrell right here at #30.
- 32:19I love it. All right, Avian Terrell.
- 32:23Clemson to Miami. OK, we've got the Super Bowl
- 32:26contenders now the Patriots need some wide receiver.
- 32:29I think you're reaching at this point.
- 32:30If you take wide receiver edge, you can take Secret.
- 32:33They're. Going to be trading for A.J.
- 32:34Brown, don't you know? Yeah.
- 32:36Where she kept secret. So edge.
- 32:38You could take here edge, smile like best at this point.
- 32:41This is tough. I think if you're the Patriots,
- 32:44you're hoping CJ Allen is still available.
- 32:46And if not, I don't think you're going linebacker.
- 32:48I will go edge. Daniel, let me go.
- 32:50Zion Young out of Missouri. I think he's best left at this
- 32:54point. You get a high value player in
- 32:56the first round, you get a body in there.
- 33:00Yeah. Zion Young Missouri that.
- 33:02Is good. Now you're at last pick of the
- 33:04first round Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl champs.
- 33:07I think you can do a couple of different things here.
- 33:09I mean, obviously they just let their, you know, Kenneth Walker,
- 33:14they're running back, you know, the Super Bowl MVP, they let him
- 33:17walk. If there is a running back
- 33:19worthy, this is a great spot for him.
- 33:22Like I said before, after Jeremiah Love, I don't think
- 33:24there is one. I think it's there's only a
- 33:28handful of guys that are even draftable this year.
- 33:30It's not a really great running back draft edge.
- 33:34If there was someone that made sense.
- 33:36I like Zion Young, like you just got with the Patriots.
- 33:40I like him here. If he if he makes it, if he does
- 33:44not additional value to your line offensive line is what
- 33:48they, you know, could use, but that's going to be more later in
- 33:53the draft. I don't, I don't think they
- 33:54draft that here. I'm going best player available.
- 33:57And in my book, that's going to be Christian Miller out of
- 33:59Georgia defensive tackle. You could see him come off the
- 34:02board like I did a couple of spots ago with the Texans.
- 34:05It just comes down to preference on who they prefer.
- 34:08I like Christian Miller out of Georgia defensive tackle
- 34:10rounding out the first round with Seattle Seahawks.
- 34:15OK. Daniel All right, best players
- 34:18that are left here. I what's funny is I was writing
- 34:21down Christian Miller as one of my favorite players that were
- 34:24left. Yeah, sound.
- 34:27Like there you took that when I was I didn't know where you were
- 34:29going to go, but I was like, see who are some of your best
- 34:31players that were not drafted that you think will be How's
- 34:36that like multi year starters in the NFL?
- 34:38Maybe not Pro Bowl, but I mean, if you want to go Pro Bowl like
- 34:40this, who are the best prospects that will make an impact in the
- 34:44NFL that we love Washington College.
- 34:46Yeah, they, you know, I had some of these guys that we picked at
- 34:52the end of the first round are guys that are actually not
- 34:55projected to go in the first round.
- 34:56So some of those guys are my favourites.
- 34:58But as I'm going through, all my stuff is loading very slowly.
- 35:03I know that you know off the top.
- 35:06Exactly 1 branch. I mean, I like, I like branch at
- 35:10receiver. I don't think that his size has
- 35:13helped him be a first round pick.
- 35:16His production was there, but I think he's going to be probably
- 35:19more middle second round to the middle to end of the second
- 35:23round because of his size, because he can't play every
- 35:26down. Yeah, give me a couple just.
- 35:28Be careful. You don't want him standing in
- 35:30the way in the tunnel of these stadiums.
- 35:32If you know if he's standing too much in the way, the security
- 35:35might come get him. So just be careful there with
- 35:38Zach Branch. It's only the Anthony.
- 35:40Hill, Texas, Yeah, Anthony Hill out of Texas.
- 35:43That's my favorite that's left. He's one of the players that I
- 35:46think coming out of high school ought to set it as a no down
- 35:48first rounder. I think he played like it at
- 35:52Texas. So that's one of those players
- 35:54that as a college fan, I'm sitting here going I think
- 35:57you're out thinking the room when you're looking at somebody
- 36:00like and I mean, even though I even though I drafted him, like
- 36:04if you feel the Patriots, you're going linebacker edge.
- 36:07I know I took Zion young because I'm trying to be a little bit
- 36:10realistic of what's actually gonna happen.
- 36:11But like, I think I mean, I think if it heals a better
- 36:14player, different positions, a different value there.
- 36:16But I think I think hills a great linebacker and he's on my
- 36:19favorite players. It's left Jacob.
- 36:20Rodriguez is one of these guys out of Texas Tech linebacker,
- 36:25getting a lot of run for potential late first round guy.
- 36:28I like him a lot. I think he's going to amount to
- 36:30something at the next level. This is a very heavy wide
- 36:34receiver draft, so you know we're talking about some
- 36:37different guys. Jeremy Bernard is also in that
- 36:40category. I think he's going to be
- 36:41special. Let me see, There was another
- 36:46player that I really liked. Can I?
- 36:48Pause you on Jacob Rodriguez. Jacob Rodriguez is my answer to
- 36:51another question we were going to ask, which is late bloomer or
- 36:55peaked in college. I think Jacob Rodriguez is a
- 36:57peaked in college player. OK.
- 37:00I like that. Do you have?
- 37:01One at the top of your head of peaked in college.
- 37:04Yeah, if we're going to do peaked in college, I mean,
- 37:07mine's kind of an ultimate peaked in college.
- 37:10Diego Pavia, I I don't mean that he's going to be a NFL prospect.
- 37:14And I don't want to feel like I'm punching down, but I was
- 37:17just listening to Daniel Jeremiah talk about it was
- 37:21either him or Todd Mcshay recently talking about the
- 37:24Senior Bowl and how there were six quarterbacks that were there
- 37:27and only five of them should have been there.
- 37:29And he was basically just like, it just doesn't make sense.
- 37:32There may be a team that tries to draft him in like the seventh
- 37:34round, but it's probably going to be undrafted free agent and
- 37:37he's not exactly the kind of guy that's going to win you over in
- 37:40the room. And so while I think he was a
- 37:42really good college player and it really electric and really
- 37:45changed a lot of like the college football talk past
- 37:48couple years. Definitely not any sort of an
- 37:51NFL prospect. Yeah, that.
- 37:52Was some low hanging fruit with with with Pavi and Pavi's game
- 37:56not translated the NFL that absolutely I agree with you.
- 38:00OK, some more, some more play for those.
- 38:03Of you hearing we're getting a little talking over each other
- 38:05because the technical technical issues, but it's it's probably
- 38:08my Internet. That being said, I like we
- 38:10drafted him in the first round. Monroe Freeling.
- 38:13I think his best football is ahead of him.
- 38:15He had only 18 starts at Georgia, so he was injured for
- 38:19some of that. And, you know, I don't think he
- 38:21ever put a complete, you know, season together.
- 38:24So I think he could, you know, to a starting NFL left tackle
- 38:28and he still has a ton. If you look at his like Ras
- 38:32score, like his relative athletic score, that was like
- 38:36through the roof. He was one of the top tackles to
- 38:38ever test. So I think he's got a ton of
- 38:42upside as the as the NFL draft experts like to say he's got a
- 38:47ton of upside. But of course you get drafted at
- 38:50length overall. Let me.
- 38:51Throw you a few players that I like and you kind of call out a
- 38:56couple that you you either agree with me or can disagree on.
- 38:59I said. Anthony Hill, junior Texas
- 39:01Jeremy Bernard, Dion Burks, 2 wide receivers out of Alabama
- 39:06and Oklahoma, Kayla Banks, defensive tackle out of Florida.
- 39:10I think he could go in the first round, maybe day one.
- 39:14Everett corner out of Georgia reminds me a lot of Kamari
- 39:17Lassiter in that I think was underrated in college.
- 39:21Played four years for a Kirby Smart defense and could easily
- 39:24be a day one starter in the NFL and work his butt off and shock
- 39:27people after camp and have a starting job even though he
- 39:30might not be a day one player. Then Oscar Del also to Georgia
- 39:34tied in. I think his best ball is ahead
- 39:35of him as a tight end. He was a more traditional tight
- 39:38end and I think after Brock Bowers it was like, OK, you have
- 39:41the generation of Brock Bowers and then a big drop off to
- 39:44everybody else. Think something Oscar Delp is an
- 39:46incredible tied in a lot faster than I think his stat showed
- 39:51this year. And lastly, all me a believer in
- 39:54Drew a large still OK. I can see that.
- 39:58He definitely has a traits. We'll see if he can ever put it
- 40:00together. Yeah, I think those all sound
- 40:05good. And I just have a couple more
- 40:06that are, you know, as far as our like.
- 40:10These these guys, you know, watch out for them.
- 40:13I guess I'm interested in if Taylon Green stays at
- 40:18quarterback. He says he wants to which every
- 40:20athletic quarterback says that, but he's an athletic freak.
- 40:23You know, you're in like a A4 four and he's got he's built the
- 40:28same dimensions as Calvin Johnson.
- 40:30So do with that what you will. I think that he really intrigues
- 40:34me as a later round pick. Harold Perkins I think is one of
- 40:39these guys out of LSU who at one point Jacob, his freshman year,
- 40:43we probably were projecting him to come out and be after three
- 40:46years, come out and be like a first round pick.
- 40:48That was kind of the vibe because of his pass rush, he
- 40:51never quite got to put it all together.
- 40:53Each of the following years, whether it be due to injury or
- 40:57positional change or whatever it may have been, I think that he's
- 41:01got a lot of value on day three for whoever you know up with him
- 41:05if they, you know, he gets with the right coach who's puts him
- 41:07in the right position to get after the passer.
- 41:11That one intrigues me a lot, Nick.
- 41:12Singleton, Penn State I think we'll be playing downs in the
- 41:17NFL next season. I agree.
- 41:20That's a good one. Jacoby Lane, USC.
- 41:25Wide. Receiver.
- 41:26See. Here if there's any other ones
- 41:28that I have my. Last one, Lorenzo Styles, Ohio
- 41:31State, a lot of Ohio State love today.
- 41:35Yeah, Lorenzo Styles I think is again devalued safety position
- 41:39but could easily find his way of playing Nick on roster somewhere
- 41:42next year someone. That I just heard about Renee
- 41:45Conga. Watch out for him out of
- 41:47Louisville. New to football ish, but he
- 41:50tested crazy like a 10200m guy and he's a defensive tackle, you
- 41:55know, one of those athletic freaks, but doesn't really have
- 41:58the tape to do it just yet. But you can see him again day
- 42:02three. That's when you get those guys.
- 42:04They're just, hey, they may not have the tape, you may not know
- 42:08exactly what going to do, but you're going to mold them.
- 42:10That's when you're getting, you're getting the clay on those
- 42:13days so you can mold them into what you want.
- 42:17I don't think we're missing anybody that was wanting to talk
- 42:19about. I think we're good.
- 42:22There you go. I love it, Daniel.
- 42:24That will do it for this episode of the NFL draft.
- 42:27Next episode, share to today. We're doing a little special
- 42:31edition college football episode with one of my favorite topics,
- 42:36uniforms. So we're going to talk about the
- 42:39Oregon Ducks. How did they revolutionize
- 42:42uniforms, not as in college football, but in the NFL too,
- 42:45because teams are wearing different uniforms in the NFL as
- 42:48well. And this, this really all
- 42:49started with Oregon and Nike. And we actually got a really
- 42:52cool interview with Richard Bacchus and who was the one of
- 42:55the designers for the Nike uniforms when Oregon first
- 42:59rolled them out and decided to be different.
- 43:00He designed the Nike logo. So we get the story from the
- 43:02source. We'll talk some of our favorite
- 43:05and least favorite Oregon uniforms.
- 43:07So something special about college football's uniforms.
- 43:10Can't talk about uniforms that Oregon.
- 43:11So that'll be here on the next episode.
